"And by that what I mean is that you've got a situation where the great lag for the Democrats now is that the Republicans can so easily say, hey, look how these guys run their cities. Look at what a mess they make for the country. It's so easy for the Republicans to say that. Because you look at Portland, you look at parts of downtown New York, you look at Los Angeles. Also even cities like Denver that were always regarded as having a very high quality of life. The downtown has become a place that people don't want to go. This city's question is going to be the defining thing in the next couple of years. Because it's also about Democrats saying we can get the house in order. And I think Karen Bass, having come from that Washington world, knows very keenly that if the Democrats want to get anywhere in the next couple of years and secure a second term for Biden, then the going to have to get the house in order when it comes to how they run cities. And I think she knows that very clearly. Monaco's U.S. senator Chris Lorde there, thank you for joining us here on the urbanist. Next, we're in Japan as our Tokyo bureau chief Fiona Wilson reflects on the past year in urbanism for her home city. After the excitement of hosting the Olympic Games in 2021, even if it was mid pandemic and delayed by a year, 2022 started off quietly in Tokyo by October when Japan's borders fully reopened, the city was ready to welcome back visitors, and they've returned in numbers, nearly half a million arrived in October, double the number in September. South Koreans were the largest group followed by Americans with visitors from Hong Kong coming in third. The Olympics continues to cast a shadow over Tokyo as an investigation into corruption widens. The northern city of Sapporo, which had hoped to host the 2030 Winter Olympics, concedes that the scandal has probably scuppered their chances.

"The legacy of the Tokyo Olympics is that it destroyed people's illusion about the Olympics and their unconditional admiration for sports. And that's an important lesson for Japan. On Thursday, Japan's Olympic Committee said it would discuss anti corruption measures. It appears to be aimed at keeping the current scandal from undermining the northern city of Sapporo's bid to host the 2030 winter games, Anthony Kuhn, NPR news, Tokyo. Nothing very much happens in the new film after sun. Just life. Mundane moments had become indelible memories of a young father Callum, and his 11 year old daughter, Sophie, on vacation, at a standard issue tourist resort in turkey during the age of the macarena. As we see the replays of scraps and snapshots of conversation. You know I want you to know that you can talk to me about anything. As you get older, you know? I've heard you go to. Drugs you take? No, I've serious so. I've done it all and you can too. I just want you to promise me that you'll talk to me about it, okay? The film starts with Paul mescal as the father, Frankie corio, is Sophie, and Charlotte welds the writer and director of one of the most acclaimed films of the year. Thank you so much for being with us. Thanks for having me. The story begins and not much at the back story is filled in. Why? I think over the course of the film, there is a fair amount of backstory that's very subtly and gradually revealed to the audience. But I think in many ways this film for me is about an accumulation and accumulation of information and accumulation of shared experience and feeling that builds to something. First, we infer and then we learn that the father and mother are apart, but such taken as a fact of life, not the cause of a crisis in the film. What made you want to tell the story of a father and a daughter? I mean, it's true that it's very much inspired by my own experiences with my dad growing up going on holidays and being mistaken as siblings, which he was not as quick to correct as Callum is in the film. And although the film is the film is certainly fiction and I was not on this holiday and these sequences of events did not take place, the start point was my relationship with my dad and I think the film is ultimately an expression of grief and that grief is my own. Grief about what? In my mind, this is the last time that they spent together. And that is certainly kind of derived from experience. At one point, Sophie loses her diving mask. Yes. It becomes a plot point. She apologizes and says I know it's expensive. And the father seemed to blanche. I think I know why, but help us out. So he throws her the mask in the water. She doesn't see it. And we have a scene of him reaching under the wasps for the mask, kind of swimming toward camera and grasping for it, but it remaining just beyond his reach and the camera for a moment takes the point of view almost of the mask's thinking to the bottom of the sea. And I think that moment in many ways represents Callum's eternal search for something that he can't quite take hold of. And so when they're back above the surface on the boat, it is a point of contention and from Sophie's point of view, it's this moment where he's upset and she kind of tries to find her way back to him. But I think for him, it's representative of something more. And so he retreats somewhat inside of himself in that moment. I hope you accept this as the compliment it is intended to be, I loved so many moments in the film that show us the peculiar intimacy of people who were able to be bored together. Yeah, I was interested in the repetition of holidays, but of the same images recurring, whether it's paragliders in the sky or breakfast on the table in the morning. Boredom is certainly a big part of those experiences and there's this day where they just keep missing each other and can't quite sync up. I think it's also somewhat relevant to these sequences of mini DV footage that recur through the film, which don't represent boredom per se, but also do have a type of banality to them, I suppose. A capturing if they every day, nothing to momentous, but things that you treasure nonetheless when you look back at them. There's a moment I absolutely broke down sobbing. For the father says to his daughter, once you leave where you grew up, you don't totally belong there again. You never know where you'll end up. Be whoever you want to be, there's time. Oh my. You heard that speech? Did I hear that speech? No. I'm not sure I heard that speech. I think that's coming from within me more than it was coming from my dad. I think I'm a person who left the place that I'm from when I was 18 or 19, I left Scotland, and I spend a lot of time there, but I've never lived there again. And yeah, it's a place I carry within me. It's a place that formed in many ways who I am. But I think those words are somewhat mine, yes. May I ask totally personal about your relationship with your father? You can try. Is he still with us? Has he seen the film? No, he's he's not still with us, I think that is for me in many ways what the film is about. It is

"Kill, who's he sent to kill. I guess Nathan, right? Yes, yes. And but he gets killed in an elevator because they managed to figure out a way to make the elevator. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. He kind of gets crushed in the elevator and so I play New York City detective who is investigating that depth. Right, good. And realizes that it wasn't an accident. Yeah. Now I'm on that trail. And yeah, so like everything in that universe, you know, everything goes sideways. In a darkly comedic way. So it's going to be good. It's going to be, I think, just as funny and just as charming as season one. And there's such a fragility in some of those relationships, right? And then you talk about being able to the economic part of it, you know, having money. The show does a lot, it hits on a lot of topics. Such an original in a clever clever idea. So you've got to be thrilled with that. That would a great opportunity. Well, and I don't know if people realize this, but one of the directors, the gentleman who directed the episodes that I was in, in fact, a guy named Jeff blitz, he directed one of the all time great American documentaries in my book. Do you remember documenting called spellbound? Yes. Yes. Tell me about it. I believe it won the Oscar. In the 80s, it's about the spelling bee. It's about me. Yes, yes. And he directed that. So it was a thrill for me to meet him because that's on my, that's at the top of my list of documentaries about the American experience, for sure. Yeah, and one of your works that I have not seen that I'm dying to see is your work as a narrator in the age of samurai, battle for Japan, some really, really great reviews. You know, so we talked about that did really well. Really well, really well. So, you know, we talk music, we talk acting, we talk writing, how did you like narration? Oh, I mean, I've been doing voice work concurrently with my live action career. Right, that's right. Yeah, yeah. "So that athletes are aware of what would happen in this case that we ended up with these conditions again like in two thousand twelve And i think that's the best you can do. And if you do on a move it to march you could do that but then you could run into a snowstorm. Right so fickle. And you never know what you're going to get and i still think that using the climatological norms for a city based on the last twenty to thirty years is the best you can do right now and then paying attention and having a plan in place for when extremes occur and i mean we got a really interesting example of this with tokyo when we knew is going to be hot in tokyo. Climatologically it's hot and disgusting humid in august and no one should have been surprised by that And so the marathon got moved to sapporo which should have climatologically been cooler however on the days of the marathon in sapporo it was hotter than in tokyo. And that's really bad luck because The likelihood of that occurring so low. And it's just too bad and you saw the changed. The women's marathon moved it earlier by an hour. Not only like ten hours in advance right. So they had certain contingency plans in place now It was still hot. It was still humid and the athletes still had to deal with conditions. They probably never had to deal with before so it was a huge part of of the broadcast. And how they're dealing with the heat. How what are they eating. Are they able to hold things down and all that kind of stuff. Well well i love you saying whether as fickle. That's so like it's like. Oh you have a peach team. Even you still say whether it's fickle for sure for sure i mean it's It's definitely one of the hardest things to predict. It's very can still be very chaotic and little changed in the system can cause large changes further down. So yeah well thank you for shedding some light on the subject for us. Happy to do so great. Take good care yeah. Uk thank you. Wow that was that was a lot to think about. It was nelson sarah. Would you rather run in a snowstorm or heat. Well you know. "It's a huge help to our team. And we really appreciate your feedback. We actually make changes based on what people have to say. Sometimes occasionally he'll get too carried. Well i won't be making the changes. Dave doesn't like that but no we do. Depends on the change as long as we're still here and employed. I think we're we're safe. Yeah i think it's good. No i'm saying. Dave not make a change just because somebody asked us to. Now you feel what i'm saying. Yeah we care about you but not that much yeah let's go to don in williamsburg virginia dawn. How can we help. Hi thank you so much for taking my call I my question is a two part question My husband i bought on how purchased a home in two thousand seven. And it's been a money pit. We are constantly keep thinking after each new repair that it's gonna end and it just is continuing We we do have a great industry and so forth But i really feel like we're putting too much money into it. Should we sell our house. But more importantly we wanna stay in our community and if there's nothing on the market at the time for us to buy because it's a good time for us to south Is it okay to rent for years that us financially mistake you know we by maybe a a cheaper house and then it as a rental property. We're just not quite sure how to handle that. Well there are no laws in virginia. That say you can't rent. So that's we're off to a good start here. But i love your question because a lot of people are listening are going man. I got to get into a house and like you're saying homeownership can be an absolute money pit. And so what i'm hearing from you is you. Don't wanna stay in this house. You want to get out but there's not really a lot of great options for you right now. Correct yes okay. There's a lot of rental options out there. But i heard that's a big financial mistake. No no i don't know that is a total myth renting is not a sin. Renting in this case is going to set you up for amazing success especially as you guys take the time to do things the right way and getting a home. You actually love. Because here's what happens. The biggest financial mistake is getting to a house that you don't like and can't afford and so i like you guys selling while markets hot. I mean how much could you get for the house at age five. And how much will you actually net after the sale we we owe six thirty great on it don. Here's here's one thing they think about. Think about how much money you spent on this money pit house and you start. That's why i'm calling. I know but think about running those numbers and you can amortize that over a twelve month thing and look at the rent versus all the money you've spent. I just wanted to throw that in there. You're not wasting money by getting out of this house. It's gonna feel like heaven to have someone else fix all the problems for you own it absolutely so you're okay with ranking for a year until maybe we see something that i always. That's why what's why. George said that he said that really clearly. It's not a sin. We're totally okay with it when it's a financial strategy but if you're just renting forever when you have the ability to buy a house and do it the right way the way that we teach than yes but in this situation. This is getting out of a money pit situation. And i'll bet you if you run the numbers you're gonna come out positively financially by renting. Yeah and even if it's adwan. I did the dave ramsey solutions several years ago. And i can't. I can't recommend it to enough people you you it was dead on. It worked perfectly for us. You're completely auditor only this house and it's just fantastic so plug into that good. Well thank you very much. So here's the deal. You need to take a deep breath after you sell this house and relax a little bit reset. You have no debt. It's not going to be a problem for you guys to rent. Take your time. Watch the market look for something that feels right and move. Oh thank you so much. I oh i'm so i i already a wage with it off my show i can tell you can run much for taking the time you bet. Thank you so much absolutely. Wow that's good stuff. And you know what she's gonna net just based on the math of course going to be fees but you know two hundred forty thousand dollars sitting in a in a in a good high yield savings account. That's not gonna hurt while you're renting. Yeah and maybe even adding to that because clearly they have great income they have great income and all those expenses are gonna go away and so they just keep adding that nest egg and all by the way they can easily afford there. There's going to be great house. That isn't a money pit. Yeah no good. All around rayner r. Let's go to jackson mississippi. Now george wear shea joys shape how can we hope Hi i'm happy you took my call I just have a question about what i should do as far as my career. I've been in the same job for about twenty two years. I'm forty six years old There's really no in this position. No room for advancement at this point So i'm trying to see. Should i try to get a second job. Should i changed careers. No oh i and others like some settings and zoom where whoever's hosting it you can control the chat like sometimes you can only chat with the organizer you can't it doesn't even give you the option to chat with other people that are in it so apparently his teacher didn't know that our didn't set that up he's getting love. Notes passed through zoom but just passing notes. Twenty twenty is now through zoom chat. Because you pass note in class. Giovanni i know you pass notes in class. That was good. Told you i was good. "Correspondent kieran pender cure. And i'm afraid you'll home. Nation lost out once again to the us. Men's basketball team now. This is a fight. That's been ongoing since nineteen sixty four. It has the last two days have really been in australia. The us themed to the olympics Australia at the women's basketball in men's basketball and the football in the women's football bronze-medal match australia lost all of them and the men's basketball team have have never won big middle. They've made it now to five olympic semi finals and lost on every occasion and then gone on to lose every bronze-medal match to and so it was particularly heartbreaking familiar as an australian watching the tame. it's been a run of losses. Unfortunately astrada had a great start to the guidelines. But i've just been at the beach volleyball where the australian pay and lost the gold medal match to the us. I was at the hockey last night. Where the loss to belgium in the hockey gold medal match as well so A bit of a poor run. The the i'm so sorry a as we know there's a great deal of tension between russia and ukraine so it was more than embarrassing when an announcer mix them up. Yeah it was a bit of an office moment for the organizing committee who who subsequently had to apologize swimming. You know one of those disciplines that get some attention every four years to the amazing despise acrobatics in the water and ukrainian artistic swimming. A tame or in the middle ceremony and incorrectly identified as representing the rationally committee which obviously and russia is banned from these games. And so they're athletes competing not under the russian banner but under the russian olympic committee about the crean's given that history Know for example the ongoing conflict between russia you crying were not best pleased zinc as the at twenty twenty committee has apologized and said it was purely an operational mistake but of all the countries to confuse it was particularly jarring. Now there's lots of new sports included in intake twenty twenty including skateboarding. Skateboarding wrapped up Yesterday an australia and actually won the gold medal the therefore skateboarding events to women. In two a man and the japanese the home nation has had really dominated winning three of the four but yesterday and australian got the better of them but there was a particularly eh awkward nyman involving other australian Who collided with a camera. Manny sort of course little bit and at a someone filming. The action was standing on the side and the strategy and skied took him out our and fist-bump team to check. You is okay particularly skater. Move i would love to see that footage. I hope it exists somewhere now. The the us might have done well in the basketball beating australia but the same could not be said of that. Performance in the men's relay race the. Us is not having a particularly strong event on the track and field in tokyo. In a number of disciplines. It must be said but particularly in the men's four by one hundred relay an event with a strong american history and the there was a really bad baton. Shine ge- Midway through the rise and led to the americans finishing sixth which means that they didn't make the final Attame has on the deepest track tainted the games but they've really struggling these events And they got a lot of criticism on for the relied change. Sprinting legend carl. Lewis said on tweeted that. I did everything wrong. Title embarrassment completely unacceptable to look worse than sort of college athletes. So they can. I can take some hot in all the medals winning elsewhere about certainly on the track and field. Doing quite as well as i would've expected secure. What does the weekend hold the wrapping up Sadly those who've enjoyed having them on tv for the last few weeks although perhaps happily for those like myself who who've been working very hard and looking forward to a bit of time off but We got two more days of action. On saturday and sunday Let them marathon Up in sapporo in in northern japan. I moved marathon out of tokyo. That the men's and the women's marathon judah the heat As part of the pre-olympic planning but there's a matinee major heatwave in northern japan so it's gonna be very very hot we. We saw the rice walking in the last couple of days. Type pice in sapporo as well. It's been sweltering at the start at five thirty. Am and they're starting the marathon seven. Am the main zone on sunday for example. So that's going to be a sweltering hot one. There's the basketball medal matches as a bunch of boxing and wrestling more track cycling handball gymnastics and volleyball. But it's all wrapping up soon. And then they'll be the closing ceremony on sunday night. And then the the tens of thousands of of athletes and journalists and officials will will begin to make their way athlete. Tat has to leave within forty eight hours of their competition finishing under tokyo. Twenty twenty rule. So we've already seen for example all of the swimmers. The swimming program was in wake on every swimmer from around. The world is already gone. Hon And and in the coming dies we'll see an exit and tokyo molester. Reflect on an immensely unusual games of this covered games with highs real highs. I particularly in the middle tally the japan but but also ongoing concern about a staging me. I mean the the code right in tokyo alone has skyrocketed. The irs eisai's that's unrelated to the olympics and that may be true but after the two week festival of sport the japanese people will be left to count the cost both literally and metaphorically karen. Thank you very much. Indeed that's cure and pender and here's what else. We're keeping an eye on today. "None of this is good enough to be installed in someone's house behind ice maker or whatever like stuff that you install on houses you kind of expect it to work reliably indefinitely into the future and none of this stuff is good enough so all this is to say that if chip our choice our matter or whatever can somehow better than what we have now whether it's through you know better device management with like authentication and control virus These various api's stuff or whether it's through different radio protocols by adopting thread and stuff like that however it happens. It needs to happen. Smart home stuff has been around now for quite a while. It should be good and it's not and it's not the question of like oh you can't buy the cheap garbage you can buy if you buy the nice one. It's better know the nice ones aren't better. They're not more reliable. It isn't like if you if you go like go with the apple product because then then it'll work a hundred percent of the time. Nope doesn't or the amazon stuff you with that. Nope doesn't i. Don't have any experience with google stuff but i imagine it's probably similar from what i've heard from other people. None of the stuff is good. None of it's that reliable. None of it's easy for most people do and most of it requires you to mess with it like every six months somehow for some reason and i just wanna get past that point in the technology like we can do this as a society. We've made technologies that can last. That could be low maintenance and reliable things like light switches for regular ones there. They last a long time. They're very reliable. Very simple we need to get to that point for smart home stuff and we're so far from it now so i hope that matter brings us. Closer was thinking of the device. My parents had that we would hook up to the lamp that was in the window at the front of the house when we went on vacation and it was basically a plugged into the wall and then it looked like kind of like a large version of a countertop kitchen timer like i had a big dial on it and you you just these little plastic things one would be adjusted to the on point. We just did the on off point and then from it would be power cord and it was just literally like a ticking clock type of timer that would make the lights go on at this hour and go off at this hour and it was not computerized. Do not have any smartphone functionality. Wi fi had not been invented yet. The internet was not was not in anyone to home but it could reliably turn that light. You know on at seven pm and off at nine pm or whatever hours for supposed to fool the very burglars into thinking. We were home and not on vacation. There was probably technology connections video about these devices. But if there's not maybe you can ask him to make one. Unfortunately for your ice maker situation probably wouldn't help you because if you could fit one of those back behind the ice maker it would probably work reliably for years but in the situation where you're like. Oh no it's eleven thirty. You still need to get back there to the timer to make it not turn off. I'm sure there are other better solutions. But i'm saying is that Your needs are so low tech that you probably don't actually need anything smart here. You could probably get away with something a lot. Dumber maybe farther down the line to the electrical system. If you're really to your larger point about this stuff being crappiest true. And i think the main advantage that matter would bring like i was saying before. Is that thing that you had to do or you gotta do the echo be set up but then like do a second set up to get it onto home kit. I the same thing with my smart outlets like the native app has its thing but then if you wanted to do home kid you doing something separate not having to do two things not having to have two systems like the corden coordinative one and then also we're compatible with home get even if they're both supported as peers as equal peers. There's always like well. You know which one of my setting in up on. Maybe one is more reliable than the other just having one system at least let these manufacturers concentrated making that one system reliable rather than trying to support all the systems. Because you know. My spot outlet supports the amazon stuff. The google stuff and home kit. It's all three and it's hard to sapporo three. I bet if they get just support one that would be way better. So i also look forward to unification and hopefully like. Maybe if there's some really good reason why this stuff is so hard to make it reliable today like with the current standards again whether it's whether it's like authentication stuff whether it's networking challenges whether it's physical things like wi fi radio problems as opposed to you know threat bluetooth. Whatever zubi all a different things. Whatever it is. I hope the industry has a good reason why things have been such such crap so far and they've fixed that in this newest standard because they have experienced now they have real world experience with all these standards out there you know to date. Hopefully now they have figured out okay. A new standard is required for good reason and a good reason is we can make these things good if we had a new standard and so here it is. If that's the case. I am very much looking forward to it i just. I hope that's the case because the way it is now is kind of embarrassing. I do have to say that. Even though it hasn't been six months yet the lubyanka caserta stuff that i've put on the screen. Porch has so far. Been pretty much bulletproof. And that is smart switches. I think they have an outlet I i believe that to be true. But if you're and it's expensive stuff. I think each of these smart switches like easily fifty bucks. Maybe maybe close to seventy five. Which is a lot for what you're talking about. Especially since they dumb version of this is like literally two dollars but But no it's been working really really well. And i have zero complaints so far so you should try that. Thanks all right moving right along Peter waller wants to know. I was wondering if you all had seen and have any thoughts on mighty a service that streams google chrome from the clouds similarly to google stadium or nvidia g. force now. The services in by beta is expected to cost thirty dollars a month. That's seems like a complicated crazy expensive way to get around the quote chrome to slow quote problem. Am i missing something. No that's my take two. I haven't seen. I haven't tried any of this. I haven't dabbled in it but my initial impression is the same thing like this is just to make chrome not suck but tell me gentlemen. What is the actual reality here. Fraud and porn. Maybe honestly like if you think like what are the possible applications for a web browser that's hosted by somebody.

Who grabbed him to make him. Put it down. You're gonna throw a chair at these women but then yes that's somehow the chair got back on the ground and he he just throws the whole thing at this point like honestly everybody in the patio. We're all just like watching this but I cannot stand up. yeah we both standing up. I think so standing up because honestly my my reflects was the one black girl who was over there at the other table. I mean it's not that i would have let that do beat up any of the women in at all but it was just this one black girl who was like no one's gonna hit her and Soul the yellow. This the white man leaves. Yeah he goes into the parking lot. He's like real man like he leaves this. We might gets into the story what you do. How do you do shit. Oh the white woman who was at that table like she's she keeps like yelling at everyone saying everyone just needs to stop fighting stop fighting everyone's not finding what's he's yelling and ardor. She's yelling in like generally direction in so mike and just like ditch you may like none of us are fighting your home like it's your reut it up dude like get him and so then she she goes. Face the mike mike mike down and he doesn't see that she has now walked directly omar. I'm like what's up. Black black dude then other tabatha table right. Yeah yeah yeah so so then. I'm like what you coming over. Because we know. I don't think mike's gonna hit this white woman. Tensions are high even in this. He's the white girl. Whisper right because the tape even what you were. So then his white woman comes over and cheese and mike won't even let her get any words out. Mike is like no. Don't all come up with. That wasn't wearing a mask. Seemed like bullshit allowed. I know you were involved in this key. Could say you don't know women don't you woman it is like i don't know if you've got toby yells again because of i don't know if you've got to do back home and i'm gonna take my mask off. You can see my face. She was line. You're right back the fuck up. Because i'll know if you've got kobe and she goes. I don't have kobe. I got the sack. That's that's i don't give a fuck. What the fuck phase. And that thought you're right. Was this the buzz cut woman or the woman who was the one that was at the table fighting. This was with the big guy. Yeah yeah yeah. Yeah so those two the the boys cut one and she's like might the look and in the dog woman. They're they're dating. They're right and so they're still over there. I don't think yes sorting things out over there but this white woman who was at that table she she she came. She tested mike. Literally like we were both saying like you know. Get your man. He's the only one fighting the only one fighting. So i don't know why she came to me and not whom and then soon as she leaves like. There's a random older white woman who just leans over to mike on some like like i'm with you like i would have wanted to give her vouchers. Sapporo privately right pretty much. Drifts were less than two million. Hey voices mad deeper than that's what it is so after all of this you know the guy the guy left all of them leave So we go back to our regularly scheduled drinking sessions just like yo. That's crazy in at some point. A don's face look over. And what's going on. I look over the asian dudes back. This is like an hour or two a longtime beijing's shirt. Oh guacamole food. So he comes back. He comes back and i see him. He's talking to the women that's when we find out that he's actually the one who said something so apparently when the woman with the dog walked in he does look there and said her suma face. Okay why he thought for some reason shit was gonna work. I have no idea. But that's what he said and apparently the white dude started laughing. What i got from the story. It seems like maybe the woman with the dog. Maybe thought that the white dude said it because she was immediately yelling at him. Not the asian guy. Asian guy was trying to apologize or whatever and they're like yo. It's fine just leave. Just fucking go. He paid for their meal.

"Today. Special guest is author of the naked man flees michael's wag stra welcome to the show. Michael well thank you very much mike. It's a pleasure to be with. You appreciate you being on taking the time. So let's let's hear a little bit about that book. Naked man flees naked man flees while the the full book title. Is the man. Fli es timeless truths from obscure parts of the bible and seek to do in the book is to highlight forty obscure passages passages in the bible that christians and non christians alike ten dimiss With the bible and passages the tend not to have a lot of servants preached about them and to take a closer look at what these passages say in What possible meeting they might have to today. i've taught In addition to teaching public high school. I also teach a part time basis at stop five college. Which is our our local bible college here in steinbeck manitoba and i've found that You can never assume that christians know their bibles really well But a lot. Don't and i i know that on your show. One of the things that you say at the end is that you encourage people to pick up their bibles and read them and i agree. People should pick up the bible and actually read it because otherwise you're gonna miss a lot of important stuff that's in there actually. Yeah there's a lot of stuff in there. It's pretty interesting for sure. Chapter two for instance you talk about one of my favorite will if it's my favorite but it's definitely one of the stories that are in there The the moses and y'all we meeting them at the lodging place and he's about to kill him mad. That is such a strange story. It makes a stranger because it's just kind of thrown in there you know you're you're reading the story then all of a sudden this happens and it goes right back to where left off so it's yeah it's it's a strange one and it's one that a lot of people A lot of christians miss and one of the reasons that we miss it is that it doesn't make it into any of the popular movies. It's not in charlton. Heston the ten commandments does make it into prince of egypt and the exact. Yeah go figure. I'll read the la read. The exact passage is chapter four versus twenty four to twenty six at a lodging place on the way the lord met him. That's moses and sought to put him to death then sapporo took a flint and cut off her son's foreskin. Touched moses beat with it and said surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me. Dr. Shawn Baker On The Carnivore Diet

"Sean. Welcome to the podcast. How you doing today really well. Thank you for having me. Good good we got a lot to get into. I m fascinated by the topic of the carnivore diet not something. We've gone deep into on the show to this point so i'm just curious off the bat. How do i get into this. My personal experience into this was just turn on improve. my own. health now was already a low carb guy and ketogenic diets. And i ran into you. Know this kind of group of people doing these zero carb. You know quote unquote meat-based. I thought that's interesting. I looked into the history. Said while try it you know what the heck amari low carbs not gonna make them big deal. I don't really like vegetables anyway. And so i tried it in. You just felt phenomenal as this is really something here and i did it for thirty days and i went back to the the more never side. I just didn't feel good. Now's like all things being equal. I prefer to feel better. That's how i kind of stumbled into this. This is after. I mean literally six or seven years of playing with nutrition pretty seriously in studying and researching it and coming from a background as you know not only as a physician as a surgeon but also locked long athlete performance. Actually you've been able to set world records on different sports and that has always been a big part of that. Not only did. I feel good on surely meet. They stopped but my performance improved significantly in sapporo breaking a number world records. And so that's what kind of made me sick or something and so now i am Just about four years into this whole celebrate my four year anniversary in about a month so then interesting and over the course of that four years has there been a lot of close ups and downs along the way or is it just been you know pretty much getting better and better over time. Well i mean the you know. The diet has been pretty consistent. And sometimes i'll throw a little bit vary from fat. Content protein content sometimes include a little bit variety within this animal base thing words eggs dairy and fishing cheeses and but most of its been mostly red meat for most of the time so occasionally i'll have something off you know like if my son has a birthday sometime piece of birthday cake once in a while but this extremely rare. I usually don't feel that actually doing that. Quite honestly i guess not a point. My life work. You know being my fifties you notice little small things Kind of creeps up on you pretty quickly as far as health is can gone. I mean generally spend just dot good stayed good. Continue to get good very rarely by seeing anything other than that. I mean you know. I've had a cold here and erin you know those types of things but nothing but generally pretty good health well sounds like red. Meat is a staple of the diet. Talk about the evolution of the diet over the air. So what was it like in the beginning when you first got into it and how has it to where you are today. Well at the beginning I used said decent amount of variety news a lot of red meat for sure. There was a and bacon and dairy and a little bit of seafood. Shrimp have different salmon. Things like that as time went by there was a period. Good probably gosh sixteen eighteen months of nothing but red meat every single day and felt great goal time and then i kind of said well that seemed to work fine in house like know because i live with other people. That don't necessarily fall is donald. Oh my girlfriend is about ninety. Five percent carnivore. She still has a few other things in there. She started vegetarian mile away in transition from that were she was having a lot of just not particularly great health and even though she very fit athletic person but still having a lot digestive issues. And you know she's found out that basically the seating start really helped her. So i mean i would just you know. Sometimes i cook for other people. So i would include that stuff in my diet with more variety. They'd want other things other than just red meat. So you do. I never really got into much into the things like chicken for some reason just never really made in died doesn't appeal to me very much if i have a choice. I usually do like to cook for myself. I'm going to pick a state or some kind of the redmi. Typically when you make choices purely based on taste or do you feel better eating the red meat. We'll both tastes better and feel better. So i think it kind of goes hand hand every once in a while i'll look and i said you kind of feel like having this you know maybe some eggs and i'll throw that in there and it may be just an unconscious subtle way saying you know you need a little bit more variety. Perhaps but it's very intuitive quite honestly like i said unless i'm training for some specific purpose specific body composition that is kinda e what i want to eat. What's appealing to me. And how much and how often is very like. i said. very much feedback directed.
