Gas prices make small drop after multi-month climb

"Weeks of seeing the price of the pump go up there now starting to head back down a bit. The average price across the D C metro area right now to 85 for a gallon of regular. That's a penny less than the national average in the district, though it's still over three bucks, according to the Triple A. The D C Metro area was the second most profitable in the nation this week. California Firefighters Battle Nearly 2 Dozen Major Wildfires

"Wildfires have now burned more than four million acres this year, and Sarah Husseini OFC reports that's more than double the previous record for an entire year. More than 16,000. Firefighters are still battling nearly two dozen major blazes throughout the state with a couple months of fall fire season still ahead. In Northern California is wine country More than 52,000 people have been evacuated as a result of the glass fire. Among them are the Henson's who have set up a borrowed RV for themselves and their three dogs outside an evacuation center in Santa Rosa. We've been evacuated three out of four years, Jessica Hansen says. This time they had no warning. She says she realised the worst was coming. When she walked out of her house on the seven acres atop the mountain. They call home and saw fire climbing from both sides as soon as we got to the top of our driveway We knew we were going to her house. But abandoning the land her family has lived on for generations is unthinkable. Henson says she's already focused on rebuilding despite not having any homeowner's insurance. Husband, Alton Henson says they'll have to rely on the federal Emergency Management Agency and groups like the Red Cross. All right now we're registered with FEMA and all then and apparently they're supposed to give us Temporary housing or they'll put trailers on our property until we re building. We're just waiting for that, but they can't do nothing in tow were considered disaster. Last week, Governor Gavin Newsom asked the Trump administration to declare the latest blazes, including the glass fire, a major disaster. Meanwhile, the weather is starting to cooperate with weary fire crews in the form of calmer winds, cooler temperatures and clear skies over the weekend, which allowed aircraft to fly over the steep and rugged terrain and make some big gains. Cal Fire spokesman Erikmenendez his office in ST Halina is located not far from where the blaze began. I can tell you that, looking out my window for the past week. I haven't seen the beautiful mountains that were known for, so it's very refreshing to see the mountains again. At a community briefing Sunday, Cal Fire incident chief Sean Norman was cautiously optimistic. We're feeling good about her lines were not done with this fire, yet it's been a stubborn fire. We don't consider the fire contained or controlled. It'll be weeks before we get to that benchmark. But that does not mean that we feel an imminent threat to any specific community Officials say they're hand picking local firefighters or those with previous experience in problem areas to help keep it that way. For NPR News. I'm Sarah Husseini in Santa Rosa, California.

"Of the outcomes why do you have get rich off of that then you have on the other end of the spectrum the now infamous bike trail in Santa Rosa California two hundred and fifty people in this a mile long two mile long tent city rat infested disease strewn fire prone needles littered hello holder finally starting to clear that out by the mile long tent city it just for my own these will will get back to that one in a second or two Hey Sean as an aside can I put you in charge of the prop bets are out now for the Superbowl I just saw a headline and I'm in the New York Post yeah you can work that desk will have that later in the hour you got it meanwhile the infamous all across the street from the home depot store in Oakland bomb camp also being cleared out because it's should I go through this disease is strewn fast mode Neil littered Bob what was the same thing that's not why it's being clear outs being cleared out because Tucker Carlson featured on a national TV show you how can I got a bunch of attention if it hadn't it would still be there well I tell you what my question to a lot of you unicorn riders who just if the public policy that makes you feel good and feeling like and you say you got twenty people at this camp camping along a river or whatever you say well they're just unfortunate because of the housing prices and we're all one paycheck away from almost as a blah blah blah so we can't rouse them in the night circuit courts as you can't roster and then that ten people turns into twenty five which it turns into fifty which becomes two hundred fifty and then as certain as if you drop a cue ball it will fall toward the earth you end up with rats and needles and filth and disease and crime and the rest of it and you end up clearing it out at enormous expense and danger to the people involved every single time but when the bomb camp pops up with five six ten twelve pence y'all say the same thing well those people it's just the housing prices what's the matter with you moving along got a bunch of emails on this and similar topics mailbag Armstrong get a dot com talking about those gal squad in the house in Oakland they finally get booted out moms for houses Joe has his human rights single moms the need houses my daughter Alnus rates my daughter in law formerly illegal husband and made a career out of squatting they even lived in areas like he mentions a really affluent area the homeowner eventually paid them several thousand dollars to vacate their home I don't doubt that their own home they'd be the cheapest way to do it by far too I do fifteen thousand dollars with a legal bill wait a month and wait a month or having a steely there's nothing we can really do about it or do we give you five thousand dollars cash to please leave our home right now yeah that's a that's a clear cut decision how's your utopia come along I love this Paul makes the point that a population roughly the size of the city of Roseville California which is about a hundred forty thousand people is by passing sewage treatment just crabbing on the streets in in the creeks and rivers of California where the environmentalists and that's just in the state of cal unicorn it's excellent point if you have an entire city that said no we don't use plumbing here we just crap in the streams one higher mills would go berserk crap well yeah okay welcome to grab will I'm the mayor let's see how do you like this one I'm guys the day after I emailed you about going Frisco which is he new term for if you have to poop outdoors you just can't get to a bathroom you're forced to do it that's called going Frisco now great citizens on the streets of San Diego drop trial in later growler in the middle of the alleyway behind our loading dock workers are unfortunate terms your user Frank Jack it's time for Frank talk a secretary then ran over the offending Dookie spreading it all over it fell to me to clean up the mess I had a rough day in a row sham bow I started with sand is an absorbent it got me to thinking we need cat litter for bombs I was gonna make couple label Frisco brand bomb letter who Johnny bomb ripple scented with clumping action tiptoeing through the bomb Dookie that's for me and how's your utopia coming along I ask again well you know what Hanson with clumping action that's that's the T. shirt we need that's been the Joe Geddes slogan the Armstrong get a slogan for years now how's your utopia come along that be a good teacher ripple scented that was pretty damn okay so the the infamous trail in Santa Rosa I told you we come back to it this is as somebody in the area knows what's going on they start to clear the trail and bring these people the new many millions of dollars to shelter complex anything only nine people agreed to go to the new shelters on the first bus a few more did later many didn't want to quote live like animals inside a fence my take on this meant they didn't want to give up drugs and alcohol and follow the rules one poor girl did say it would be your first steps toward recovery and so she thought maybe it would be good for god bless our hope she gets going arm but there you go they said listen we have this one a new of wonderful new shelter but you can't be a junkie and all the junk he said we have no interest in it whatsoever then you got this note from Christina who's talking about Santa Cruz cal unit cornea they cuddles bombs and junkies with more time money concerning could possibly imagine compassion is the long ludicrous excuse points out some examples and then we got this note from another city in California a guy who's just gotten clean and sober for a little while now says I used to know a lot of the bombs and junkies here in town and it's become such a haven for bombs and junkies Petaluma California because the town's become a perfect storm of rich rich liberalism rich bleeding hearts my friends my former friends tell me all the time how being homeless in Petaluma so easy because people are so giving they regularly get handed a hundred dollar bills at intersections when they're begging for their drug money while three hundred dollars a day easy bagging Hillary Clinton has said something about running yes she has war war for.

"That was it and she was she turned in before the next day and in Santa Rosa California fires and she her dog helped her want to live through this but also when we went to the recovery center there were those dogs the crisis dogs who seem to go to the people who needed the help the most I don't I think it's miss them or at work but their their handlers said the same thing and there's a there's a remarkable story in there of young woman with schizophrenia and that was really surprising to me that dog was trained to help prevent her from hitting the worst parts of it sometimes of course medication is super important and this is what you can't stop right occasion but that I was trying to stop her from cutting for instance from self harm and also you know typical PTSD work like leaning into her knowing which needed to have the heavy body working on hat sitting on her lap leaning into her giving her a hug when she needed it and but the most special thing of all was something that the dog was even trained to do just by being a really friendly Labrador retriever she realized that the dog cat acacias who's the nations of auditory and visual I'm really scary bad people and if the dog would do you know if he would like to tell anyone even if that guy so she she said if he doesn't recognize someone he's not seeing someone and wagging the tail looking at this person that she can see she's starting to realize that that person doesn't exist and so just by virtue of the dog being friendly dog who would acknowledge the simplicity of these people if they were real she's able to separate reality from the hallucinations much better and the dog is definitely credit with saving her life as well yeah yeah it's amazing yeah okay well we're going to learn more about doctor dogs from best selling author Maria good events but we got to take a quick commercial break and when we get back the nose really knows and we're going to share a little bit about a special three D. gifts that are author guy and and a little bit about her yellow lab named Gus so sit and stay we'll be right back time for a walk carbon of course will be back in a flash right after these messages what's up everybody this is your host art and more and guess what I wear different colors in the pet world I am also a master instructor in first aid and CPR and I have some great news for all you safety is one of the best skills you can learn for pets that you have and those.

"And welcome back George nori with you our open line calls let's go west of the Rockies now and he's with us in Santa Rosa California hello Andy hi Georgia area okay hope you are too yeah I'm there I wanted talking about surviving the anti Christ all right all right resume the wanted to just just to bring all right here first would be the book review your with your wheels right we don't want to bring this up is is not measured not by I think that god's rule was carried on that crack and that if god were using those kind of vehicles for physical transportation but portent the book it'll work he came down first and we're gonna vision order another property to get that message yeah and then I'm convinced that we'll was some kind of of craft of some type definitely yeah definitely they're all over the Bible this is the book with eagle is the best account for them but the thing is guarded years after physical transportation is probably safe to assume that the devil also uses those it's an interesting take that's possible so that's just something to keep in mind and is very interested in the Dow I always thought when I heard about the eggs he could Ezekiel we'll story to me it sounded like revolving you are full and I'll always believe to be sure next up Julie is with us in the state of Washington first time caller hi Julia wow high and so surprising out through I'm glad you did what got you the funny call us for the first time ever well I was telling your call the person I talked to to begin with then I started listening my husband passed away five years ago and that he was all he was a navy man as well and he used to always listen to coast to coast in other talk you know talk radio show okay and that was so close listening to you guys so I have this line I don't know I'm just put this out here that maybe I can connect with him the radio waves or something the nose and down just connect that way and whether I actually make the next connection or not verbally at least he might get that connection there yes it was just kind of a wild thought I had but you guys do such innovative things that I thought well I'll give it a go well you you let me tell let me tell you I wish you would have been able to get through last night when I have the military medium that she might have been able to connect with your husband hourly okay that's what he does that's a lot already are calling you know Colin privately and give that a go I didn't hear impact that in something like this but anyway that's good that's a good idea but regardless I love your show and I always feel close to him when I listen to you guys yeah subjects and he would listen to and I guess said he was he drove me crazy sometimes because he always had his the earpods on news always he was always living that something from sometimes it was hard to get his attention but since his past sign I just feel close to him every time I listen you guys and you know if something you're in gear my heart so I it we're here for you Julia were here yeah just so you know and I love thank you and I love your call how is my last time and the guys from the south from the only as the center such a character he's one of a kind all you just feel like it's kind of a nice family you guys how's that created it is indeed okay thanks Julie appreciate it my and I'm sure his we're here for you if you need us and saw the callers on me they have created the camaraderie were the connect to each other and they're very very close Tom now what do you have for Sir next text or tweet you know she so right I was gonna tell you sit here and sometimes you just think about it really is a family it's like only does affect really nice well what's one of the most important things when I started doing this now as we go into eighteen years in January starting our eighteenth year while can you believe that Tom senior but the as long you know when I made that announcement eighteen almost eighteen years ago but we will broadcast live on holidays it was for people like Julia who you know the her husband died she may be alone that's what we do this program for is specially on the holidays because people have that one on one feeling with this program in the there is no way I'm not gonna be able to help these people if we don't go live in now and that's why we do it in the end I appreciate my staff of that you work with because you folks come in you when Danny and lease Stephanie all come in on holidays working too and now sure we take a day off here and there but you were always there what's that sends that phrase the show must go on Michelle Lee during holidays absolutely so we're looking at something from destiny in Washington state she says do you think everyone has a guardian angel I do all there's no question about it if you one believe in angels everybody has a guardian angel right now Tom you've got one over your shoulder I've got one here in the they're they're out there I don't know how they were signed to us in how we got them but I think there are we get them from the moment we're born a little me left by little or great grand the child who is now going on three months old she's got one and most of the summer they we were somehow connected to them from the moment we're born and then they they watch us well I will tell you you told the pilot the story of my little episode pulmonary embolism by farmers somebody was watching out for I believe it was all time meaning because had you not even gone into the hospital when you did you could have died in that both you're in right now I a free click of cash going to do by the way something very important we're putting together our Christmas Eve and Christmas night show yeah I love Chris with special elements some white guests lots of phone calls and things like that Christmas music you're going to do a special rendering for me called footprints in the sand yeah I love that my mother told me about it in now when I first read it tears would come down my ice you know what I learned that from my mom too yeah that one it's just a classic so water put that together for us and I don't know what what day we selected to run that weather will be Christmas Eve or Christmas day what will fit in there you've got it you've got it on the clock okay thanks Tom thanks next up let's go to Ryan and Miami you welcome to the show I WRI long time listener re work midnight's near my partner was you see at night and what we show thank you as a police officer I had a chance to a couple times down here in South Florida you're on is the Cold War and everything else or multiple right you missile sites located throughout South Florida yeah and I was able go through one a couple times from your with various other officers that occurred and we had a bunch of weird stuff happens was the one site we went in one night nine I we were checking the inside of the old church that one of them and we'll walk you through we clear you know the long set up their excellent walked out we start hearing the prince and the smashed windows behind us you'll come in behind us we hear the footsteps or I will break down the hall nobody's there and we walk out we go in another room it will further down and all of a sudden we hear a lot of pain right at the worst feeling in the bar in this work okay it's extremely weird in this place and we'll never thought much of it there's no wind or anything right okay maybe it's just something weird up themselves on the move whatever let's take a second time I take a trainee of mine she was with me I take another officer and we go we walk through the same barracks again and we're going to a room that's like a living room and one of all and I go in they come in behind me and I go out another door and they come back out the door we came through to meet me in the hallway I open the door ritual there's nothing there the two other officers my trainee a female and a male officer walked out the other door and there's now a scent of flowers hanging fake flowers hanging from the door knob which is actually weird those two officers and up you know about a year or so later married each other they started eighty not long after that each other synchronicity yeah we always thought it was weird but we've always heard sounds weird stuff we never really could figure out never saw anything but we've heard weird stuff things move your things along those lines that whole entire site and we can never really figure out what happened always meant to be are you stay safe out there Ryan thank you love our police officers they put it on the line all the time Joe in the Bronx welcome to the show Hey Joseph how you doing doing all right greed good I want this you can you know and something what do you think the future of Mars exploration and what do you think that the role of private enterprise in exploring the planet of Mars will end up you know bringing us well I I think we will we explore Mars probably later than sooner but we will get there with the astronauts in terms of economically I don't know what they're going to you know if they find the cachet of diamonds or what I don't know what that's going to do for us because first of all if they found a hoard of diamonds on Mars they really wouldn't want them here because you know they control the diamond output to keep the prices up they're not you know if diamonds were going for ten cents a carrot or something like that people go crazy but the so I don't know what we will find on Mars like that in order to win Hance why we're going what do you think I think it's for scientific reasons research scientific exploration in Mars could possibly tell us something about other planets in our galaxy it in any event I think that laws is basically a stepping stone toward further exploration of the other planets I think so too thanks Joe appreciate it nothing like have a little telescope when your kid barber in Los Angeles take it away barber I think so wearing hang in there and they're you know I have wonderful care givers that yeah I am trying everything I can they give them to you know leave the front porch but it's a continuing problem but I just wanna say I look forward to use so every day to the keeps me focused and you know that it takes my mind off these knuckle heads for a few hours and I gotta say is their persistent still out there on the porch in our thing and I am trying everything I can to get them off the front porch I consider myself lucky that they're out of the apartment but to they they their soul what do they want with you Barbara I really don't know see and then the billing dispute is and and the one of the reasons I fired unless I sent we know I could pay in Chile and the time and they will be happy and I said I gotta do is I don't want to go into everything that I had to do a lot of maneuvering just to get them out the door but it's a lot more complicated than land if you had the police involved on in the sling little bit that it and I'm really reluctant to do then I ate I did call learned since and did the police showed up and and Weston as soon as they left the knuckle heads came back back again did let me ask you something did they know about your personal assets your money in the bank unfortunately as is is there a lot of money in there it depends we went to call a line to like right now I can make all my you know my bills and stuff and I work very hard to do that and don't you have some family members I can help you out yes and no that's a whole nother ball of wax legislation I'm just concerned that the these folks might want to get their hands on your little pot of gold so be careful ari.

"So everything's going on people coming in and out music's wafting on the radio the whole deal, and we talk a little bit about photography in general, but get into tin tight photography. So that you can learn about this art form because I think it's fascinating. And it's still going on. And Jeremiah is practicing this right now, you can make an appointment. Go down to a studio in have a tin type made for you. And they're beautiful absolutely beautiful. So without further ado, I'm going to take us into Jeremiah's photo corner. We're going to sit down, and we're gonna talk about photography in a whole different way. I hope he enjoy this chat. I'm sitting here with Jeremiah in Jeremiah was photo quarter in south of ace St. and Santa Rosa, and we're your shop right now early. Yes. Yep. Right down here in the arts district, and Santa Rosa, California. How long you been here stores been here for a little over nine years. And yeah, great little neighborhood. You know, we got galleries around here art studios and a couple of funky places to eat and whatnot. So what kind of wander in the doors here? Oh, people wander in. We get actually because of the food. And the just the fact that was labeled the stress district. We get all sorts of becoming look at the windows and spl as and being like, wow, I haven't seen a film photography shops from forever. So a lot of people end who either are interested in photography or people who had haven't taken pictures, you know, for a long time, I should say haven't taken pictures with outside of their phone perhaps for for years. So they're always come amazed that we're still around. So I mean, how do people I mean, obviously, film photography that come in the door. They're on a mission. Right. They have they wanna processor film, or by some film or something. But how about the folks that aren't film, photographers? What's kind of conversations that you have in here? I mean, they just like amazed that you're still here early S. Yeah. Because they're like I thought all of these kind of stores died off, you know, and. Yeah. For the most part, you know, film based tiger Affi brick and mortar stores are a rarity these days. But there still are. Are you know handful? We're just on the outskirts of the bay area. So we still have clientele interested in unique processes and art and being creative and stuff and film, Dogra Fay's definitely one of those things. So you have a conversation. It's interesting people come on. They're like, wait. Your film base sore thought, they stopped making film. That's like, I don't know plenty of film play film. So usually, it's you know, informing them that by golly. If you wanna shoot film, you can still do it. So you do another kind of talk too. That's that's one thing. I really wanted to get to which is tin type. Yes, if people think that Silva Tigra thirty five millimeter, film, photography is a lost art form. Then tin type must be like back and. Generation's, right..

They didn't scrub, to, land, of all the, raised Martian ground relief pictures in the dirt and their spacefaring race they have ruins. That, I've been able to find on more of these rays pictures that match the Martian animals that are here it's all Marsh water animals Martin Luther Waterman and the stock photos. That, NASA has has. Washed out versions. Of the, same animals. Specifically the one I'm going to talk about tonight. Is the one I called the Martian water animal because it's one that they put civic. To find like what's the horizon line? For what is going to be you know sort of acceptable standard of what counts and so what are you doing when, you say, research how, are you documenting this and. Then. What's your peer. Review system who do you have, to go to to double check to see whether. A word I always liked called, rea- fi we make. Something real it's. I, found him right here in Santa Rosa this is probably one of the most best preserved areas on dry land on the whole planet 'cause glaciers never came down this way Down this part. And he didn't, script, the, land of all, the raised Martian ground relief pictures in the dirt and they're spins bearing race they. Have, ruins that I've been able to find on more of these rays pictures that match the Martian animals that are here it's all Marsh water. One I called the Martian water animal because it's the one that they put it's a specific. Animal that help them do their spacecraft Technology as best as I can tell I noticed sounds pretty. Wild but, I'm I'm listening to you I mean here's a part? Of it is what do? You have how would you say researcher? So? Like you're talking my language there right because I spend a good portion of every week What I do I do research, and then you get into? The area of documentation and then you? Have to find like what's the horizon line for what is going to be you know sort of acceptable standard of what, counts and, so what, are you doing when you. Say. Research how are. You documenting this and then what's, your peer review system who do you have to, go to to double check to see whether or not you're not just, creating out of, some you know a bias you're not just fulfilling. "We're talking about inflated grades and this is someone who is citing a specific school district i don't know this but if i moved to japan and put my kids in school there would they slow down the classroom to teach my kids japanese snow my brother lived in japan for several years and his kids went to schools and you pay for going to schools that are four japanese learners that they're you know like private instructional thingies the japanese government doesn't say oh man okay kids we're not gonna teach in japanese today i don't know read on your own for a while and we'll teach them some some japanese for awhile hap i picked an affluent country because obviously they're not going to do it in mexico for instance stopped teaching the little kids so that they can bring your english speaking get up to speed but anyway they're talking about santa rosa california high schools the headline santa rosa schools to require a college prep classes for all students mrs somebody you taught there for quite a long while every level from basic skills english as a second language college prep ap classes helped with a program dedicated to juniors and seniors who didn't pass the exit exam to try to bring them up to speed so they could pass the exit exam of course the exam because of political pressures was done away with the predominance of students in these classes were hispanics most of whom had been in the us for fewer than two or three years their english language skills were minimal at best they read at third grade levels and subsequently could barely right many of them never passed the test i do wonder whether they've been given retroactive diplomas there are more and more students like that in santa rosa school believe me there's no way they can handle true college prep classes the local community college we'll have to institute more remedial classes because of this dumbing down down down very poor forward thinking but politically correct to the max and that's what i object to it i am absolutely willing to acknowledge that both parties and the farm lobby in american industry join together to say hey hey amigos come in come in come in we need your label or labour will put you to work and we'll turn a blind eye we won't really prosecute you we pract we don't really ship out anybody will give.

"And it is burning totally out of control there are certainly hundreds of homes burned already it looks like in the end we may be talking about thousands of homes that have been reduced to ash one of the remarkable things about these shots of these neighborhoods is not just that homes are burned and so many homes are burn but that they are completely completely gone whole hospitals had to be evacuated this afternoon and this evening as a smoke and flames bore down on these hospitals with incredible speed these are some places where they had thought that patients would be safe in where they would be okay to stay operating but the hospitals were evaluated excuse me were evacuated quickly and at the last moment there there's some reports tonight that at the causes or hospital in santa rosa california hospital staff may have had to be evacuated patients from that hospital in their own personal vehicles hospital staff using their own cars to evacuate patients in some cases because this thing just came down on them so fast there were no other options so again the top line news here is that there are a bunch of fires in california there's also very serious one burning in southern california in anaheim but this northern california fire just north of san francisco really is destroying whole neighborhoods in very populated areas and it's happened very fast today so we're watching that story tonight with some considerable urgency as they try to get at least portions of those fires under control.
