Cleared Hot Episode 58 - Vaughn Stumpf
The vast minority of citizens will never serve in the military. My father served before me, and his father served before him. I hope that military service ends with me, and that my children find other ways to serve. This episode is with my father, and we discuss our own family lineage, how and why we set our roots in the beach town of Santa Cruz California, and the history of our families military service. I am often asked about my service, and I can only reply with my own experiences. In this episode I tried to focus on the experience not of the service member, but of the family supporting the military member. I receive emails from parents of those serving often, hopefully this episode helps them.

Pawd Cast: Laura and David Troubleshoot Akita Rehoming
On the 12/6/18 program, trainer/blogger Laura and I helped called Ken from Santa Cruz to troubleshoot -- "if anything can go wrong it will" -- the transfer of an Akita from Northern California to Washington state. But what happens if it doesn't work out? Trainer Laura Pakis of ACME Canine and I do our usual "Ask Us Anything" segment at 12:30 and we will be taking calls from listeners. Please join us and tell your friends. It turns out there is an Akita breed rescue in Northern California that may be able to help.

A Planetary Sense of Love Natalie Batalha
Astronomer Natalie Batalha embodies a planetary sense of what “love” is and means. She says her experience searching the universe for exoplanets — earth-like bodies beyond our solar system that could harbor liquid water and life — fundamentally shifted how she thinks about the human experience on this planet. “You see the expanse of the cosmos, and you realize how small we are and how connected we are,” she says. “And that what’s good for you has to be good for me.” Natalie Batalha is a professor of astronomy and astrophysics at the University of California at Santa Cruz. She served as the project scientist for NASA’s Kepler mission from 2011 to 2017. Find the transcript at onbeing.org.
