Things like pigs in a blanket fry them like bacon, it bacon rather in San Francisco and in Los Angeles, and so on and so forth. So what's really frustrating you know about this is They are allowing freedom of assembly by way of the protests and freedom to sing their protests allowed. But they're denying assembly in churches and places of worship, which is a very, very significant issue that I got a hard break here. But please hang with me. P. if they can just do it at home put it in an e-mail it then you're able to have a sample and you haven't had to burn any of the PP so we're also looking at that as well as the saliva test but I do think allowing licensed pharmacists to be able to do this expands our capacity makes testing more accessible for people and I think ultimately is is the right thing to do if you look at our hospital bed availability now we've been pretty consistent between forty and forty five percent for the last probably month for available beds we have more available beds in both regular beds and I see you beds today available than before the pandemic began and so protecting the hospital system from getting over run was the number one priority to flatten the curve the number one reason we engaged in mitigation as a country and I think here it's been steady as she goes we don't see a threat to the hospital system and that's a very very good thing for the latest updates on our effort to fight cobit nineteen please test that Texas F. "And you can watch for free or you can donate so far. We're well over sixty k. donated to support rape crisis intervention. And I'm so excited about that. Also, I will be in London in September for the London podcast festival doing a live recording of this podcast query. So I will see you in London, September, thirteenth, please enjoy this chat with Ambra hikes. Still. No, no, no careless. Well, I first of all, think you so much for being patient through technical difficulties as not a problem at all. And I usually start the show by having my guest introduced themselves. So would you introduce yourself you have to? So my name is amber hikes, and I am the executive director of the mayor's opposite LGBT affairs for the city of Philadelphia, which is really, which is really RAD. Yeah, it's really RAD actually, because people don't really know this, but our opposite LGBT affairs is one of only four similar offices in the entire country. See now that was going to be my follow up. Question of question was going to be like, is this a thing? 'cause I don't know about this thing. My father close to me is going to be like. Wow, I can't believe that this job exists everywhere. But what you're saying is that it does not. Not that you were ill-informed? It is just not really think what a place so. So we're excited by Washington DC has an office, Santa Clara county and randomly the Union County. New Jersey is the newest office. So yeah, in I also, I mean, I think I know the answer to this look like Phileas. Bigger than DC. I don't know which one of those big you. Yeah, you may. So you're, you're, you're in the biggest said that has that. Has this. The biggest city that does have an opposite LGBT affairs while which we like to throw around, but I'm glad you did it. So I, I'm very smart and I can really kind of put things together for my travels. So don't worry about it. I'm gonna like I'm really on it. How long have you worked in that capacity? How long has that been your job? Since I've been doing it since March of twenty seventeen. But our offices have been around in some capacity since about two thousand one actually, pendant liaison only shi'as mayor. Yeah, no, like damn being right, right. Hell we're in Hello dominant for a long time. Philly also has the oldest LGBT bookstore, isn't that correct? I think it is. Okay. Someone's been reading up. Very, I've physically been there. I've been to that bookstore travel. I travel a lot for my job. So something I've been doing much harder since the two thousand sixteen election is like making sure to go to like if there's a queer bar, if there's a lesbian bar, if there's a book like just really trying to scope our our community as I travel because prior to that, I guess I was more focused on, I don't know, like going to bed after shows, but no time for sleep in anymore..

"The Doak is a look at the cost to the environment to the health and safety of workers of the way we produce our digital devices. I started by asking sue, what Qatar interested in the subject. I've been working in China for many years. I've made six films there already and over a period of about thirty years almost. So I've seen the environment change in China. I mean dramatically friend of mine introduced me to module on who's China's leading environmental activist and what he discovered through his work. He took published government data on pollution violations across the country. This huge database with hundreds of thousands of entries. And as they begin crunching the data, he found that a really large percentage of the violations were issued to electron companies. And he was really surprised by that because he thought that the electron IX industry was a clean industry. Of course, what he learned was that it's really a toxic chemical handling industry. I mean, I think many of us have a sense there are environmental and workplace health consequences to, you know, our culture of upgrades and Howard devices are produced and disposed of, but we might not know the scale of it. Can you paint a bit of a picture for me in terms of just the amount of production and the raw materials and the toxic chemicals involved. It in the film. We didn't do rare earth, minerals. We didn't go that far back in the supply chain. We really focused on the factories making the circuit boards from the chips when the industry was based here in in the US in in Silicon Valley in upstate New York as well. Well, one example is trichloroethylene. It's a solvent and they would use it in the manufacturing process and they would start and underground tanks. And of course, solvents are really good at dissolving things. So the trichloroethylene would leak out into the soil and plume its way, make its way through the soil into the groundwater as a result just in Silicon Valley in Santa Clara county. They have more Superfund sites there than any other county in the country Superfund site is is a a site that the federal government has ordered to clean up because the environmental damage is so devastating, and these sites are going to take hundreds of years to clean up. So that's just. In America in the early days of the industry when it moved to China, they're very few environmental regulations, especially up until fairly recently. So it was great for the electronics companies. They could go there. They could get tons of cheap workers. The numbers are just, you know, hundreds of thousands of gallons by multiple factories every year going straight into rivers into the ocean. Apparently as what I've been hearing recently is that as in southern China's environmental regulation gets a little better and forced companies are moving to the coast because they can just release all their waste into the ocean. So it's kind of hard to imagine the scale of if you imagine Foxconn which has over a million employees, we're talking plants in the supply chain which are hundreds of thousands of workers. So just multiply that by all the manufacturers and all the suppliers who are making things. Chips from the smallest of our devices to tens of thousands of devices..
