Many months of the year. And since the end. December about thirty horses have died at this track. And it's it's not that it's a combination of factors. But one of them is that horses are being drugged to enhance performance and also to get injured horses on the track. And a no other racing jurisdiction. The world do we allow same day medicating horses? I mean, this is, you know, like, Lance Armstrong being, you know, you know, giving himself, you know, enhancements in order to to to race better than competitors. Or that's like a baseball pitcher being souped up or slugger being souped up. We don't allow this in other sports. And why are we allowing these equine athletes or why we allowing veterinarians to to do this to horses? It puts them at risk of breakdown. And what's happening in horse racing? Is that were breeding horses for speed? You know, they have these thin champagne glass legs and these are thousand town. Animals who racing at forty five miles an hour. And if they have a little physical vulnerability in their legs with an injury, or if their body is being pushed beyond normal. So there's federal legislation on this horse racing. Tig react to in same day doping horses on American tracks not just for thoroughbreds. But for other types of horse racing that occur in the US in a similar vein. Greyhound racing you and other animal welfare advocates have been pretty vocal about the abuses suffered by these dogs. "Southern California's famed Santa Anita park after our Jim Roope has been reporting on a rash of racehorse deaths. When it comes to thoroughbreds breaking down as it's called in the sport of horse racing. There is one undeniable fact athletic endeavor athletes, do get injured Willman is a longtime thoroughbred owner and breeder as well as director of publicity for Santa Anita park. And he's not talking about the jockeys. Although jockeys are considered pound for pound among the best athletes in the world of sport. He's talking about the Ecuadorian athletes the horses themselves at Santa Anita since December twenty sixth twenty two of these athletes have sustained injuries so catastrophic they had to be euthanized Twenty-two in less than three months. The track was examined reexamined. The fault was record amounts of rain affected the track. Nothing was found. However after that twenty-second horse broke down and was put down the focus turned to medications, among them Lasix ADR. Drug use to reduce exercise related bleeding into the lungs ninety five percent of racehorses, Iran Lasix, Santa anita's owner, the strongest group has now banned Lasix on race days and his phasing it out completely the animal rights group pita has long called for the end of the use of Lasix and other medications that the organization claims masks pain and smaller injuries allowing horses to be rushed back onto the track and training and racing. And that's where the catastrophic injuries occur Cavallo year. Moa pitas, senior VP she says while she would like Lasix all out immediate banshee applause, Santa Anita for what is doing and other moves like limiting the use of writing crops or whiffs to corrective or safety measures only the medications that could be given on a daily basis would have to be pushed back they're not allowed to give horses. The medication if they don't actually have a medical condition and they've also ended chocolate therapy, which is a credibly painful and injection of steroids into the joints. There are many who say medications, especially Lasix are not the problem. Willman still believes this the rain effect on the track and things undetectable. Fans are more readily leaps out, and maybe the claims took onto the percentage when you're that compassionate equipment respect. I think that's the lead. Indicator says either way the number of horse death is unacceptable and in the last two weeks. There have been none the horses have been training. Again. That's the objective. Then we're open for clean safe training and racing. There will be a hearing of the California horse racing board on Thursday. And woman says it's hoped the board will approve racing to resume on Friday. Jim Roope, Los Angeles ten til Robert workman is in this Monday morning with sports NCWA basketball tournament the first two rounds or down were at the Sweet Sixteen with that coming up and nearly saw number one. Overall fall Duke squeezed past central Florida, seventy seven seventy six the nights gave the number one overall seat a huge scare leading by three in the final minute. Duke superstars, I n Williamson drove for a basket over UCF giant taco fall drawing. The foul that sent fall to the bench with his fifth foul. And Williamson to the free throw line with a chance to tie with thirteen seconds to play. He missed the free throw. But RJ Barrett's put back put the blue devils on top Williamson finished with thirty two points. So did central Florida's all reductions who missed the tip in just before the buzzer that would've wanted pretty good game in also in Columbia, South Carolina, the Virginia Cavaliers ousted Oklahoma, sixty three fifty one finally a fairly easy one for the Cavs. Of course for eliminated in the first round last year as a number one, and they're never going to live that down in Columbus, Ohio, Tennessee, outlasted Iowa Eighty-three Seventy-seven that went overtime the vol's led by twenty five in the first half. And gave it all back. But grant Williams save their bacon. Sporting six of his game. High nineteen points in OT also in Columbus, North Carolina nailed Washington. Eighty one fifty nine twenty a piece for Luke maye and the little in Tulsa, west regional Texas Tech barrel Dover, buffalo, seventy eight fifty eight holding the bulls to just thirty six percent shooting. So the red raiders are in the Sweet Sixteen for a second straight year. Also in. Tulsa in the mid west region. Houston harassed Ohio State, seventy four fifty nine. So the Cougars are in the regional semi's for the first time since the fi- slamma Jamma days thirty five years ago to which Virginia Tech says thirty-five years, that's cute. They snuffed out liberty sixty seven fifty eight in San Jose in the east regional their first trip to the Sweet Sixteen since nineteen sixty seven they didn't even call it. The Sweet Sixteen back then there were twenty three teams an odd number of teams in the NCAA tournament. That was the sixties they use peach, baskets and everything the other game in San Jose saw the two double digit seeds go at it. Oregon overpowered Keller vines seventy three fifty four on a game of long runs. Both ways. The ducks the only double digit seed to advance so Cinderella as big flat web feet this year. Saturday. The winters were Michigan state and Michigan LSU and Kentucky Auburn, and Gonzaga and Florida state and Purdue the Boilermakers pulverizing the defending national champion Villanova eighty seven sixty one. So the regional semi Sweet Sixteen shapes up like this on Thursday in the south region in Louisville. It'll be Tennessee and Purdue Virginia against Oregon and in the west and Anaheim, Gonzaga, Florida state, and then Michigan and Texas Tech Friday, the east regional in Washington DC as Michigan state LSU, followed by Duke and Virginia Tech they've met this year. In fact, TEK one the last time they played and in the mid west in Kansas City, North Carolina, Auburn and then Kentucky and Houston top three seeds from all four regions reached the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since two thousand nine in the NBA Sunday the warriors with the pistons one twenty one fourteen they get their fiftieth win for six straight year. And they're back in first place in the west because the Pacers rock nuggets one twenty four to eighty eight that clinches a playoff berth for Indiana bucks, Hornets, Spurs, rockets flippers and Lakers were all winners. Lebron James had a triple double NHL hurricanes. Blackhawks island. Capitals and blue jackets were winners. And from the NFL patriots all world tight end rob gronkowski announced his retirement after nine seasons seventy nine touchdowns, plus twelve more in the playoffs only. Jerry Rice has more in the postseason, and he's not even thirty years old yet. We're going to see a lot of gronk on TV. That's Monday sports. Six till..

Spokesman for Santa Anita telling KNX they are adding additional veterinarians to monitor the horses and they've done extensive studies of the track with one of the leading experts of the state. They feel a track is where it should be for racing, but they will continue to monitor the situation. Adding the fact there's been no rain for a few days is helped but more rain is expected before Monday. And that's to present additional challenges. What I feel really good about right now is that we do have Guinness more on scene, and he is the number one track guy in California. So whatever needs to be done. If there needs to be a cessation of training at some point in time. He'll make that call as far as actual racing is concerned.
