Fresh update on "santa anita" discussed on Racing Rundown: A Horse Racing Podcast

"American theorem is not the greatest racehorse but just looking at the progression that he has shown from. His first star was beaten by a grade one winner and then his next start. Where he's been buying other graded stakes. When are i just think that given the fact lease running against really good horses. I think he gets to a situation where he he's already wanna race. He broke his maiden in an allowance race. I think that this is an opportunity where he's going to have against a lighter field of it's not very. They're not a ton of consistent horses in here that he could break through and get get a win in states like this and i love that shot. Jack has a race where i think it's completely fair to one hundred percent wide open. I want with a horse. Who very well could be favorite in the brickyard ride. I think he's too quick for this bunch based off that last alone. He flew home winning winning the calcutta sprint in in january It was very impressive by far his best race and he's just winning machine. At the end of the day he looked for sixty to twelve races but four of them of comments in it and he's only lost once at santa anita on their dirt core. So that that has a lot to me. There isn't a ton of other speed industry. So another reason why. I really liked this horse. He also likes the distance to one four to six races. Going this distance a seven or long so tons and tons of reasons to like him too big for me being the lone speed and this was a tough race because there was not a horse. I really did like in here But i could not bring myself around to pick him. And that was the five strong constitution. yankees ran three bad races on the grass. But he's been a little bit in over his head Especially the hollywood derby Others miles were tough groups But you look at his dirt form and it's not really that bad he's he's never won on it but yes two seconds in two thirds in his starts on the end when he's gone one turn he's random very racist against horses that are graded stakes winner so that goes along way he gives. It ran on the dirt since last october when beaten less than lincoln and allowance going a want to turn mile. Excuse me. But i think a seven furlong race. I couldn't picked him at. He have enough guts picking because i like procured ride a quite a bit but i think strong constitutes not least to hit the board at a price down. Might be your horse. Euro is looking for some big big value. And the next week we're going to go onto is race. Nine the frank worrell mile. This is the one of the racist this weekend. That i'm personally the most excited for Because i am a big fan of smooth like straight. I really liked the campaign. He put in toward the end of the year twenty twenty. That's why i'm going to go to smooth like straighten you you just have to look at The race look at the past performance to see why going to pick a horse like him You know he won. The matthews brothers mile has last start. He won the twilight jewelry. So obviously he loves santa anita turf course before that shipped into the american turf. It wasn't the best days for him. Didn't get the greatest setup ultimately finished fourth but before that a one the hoya and he even you know it. It wasn't a ship thing because he had shipped out earlier to churchill and won the war chant. that was over a couple of nice horses. Fancy liquor was in that war. Chance steak so there are some good states horses in there and you know i think the best race of of his last year This is kind of weird to say because this is a race that he didn't win a very nearly one but Talking about the hollywood derby you know you look at this race. He is very nearly beating a horse. Who is a multiple stakes domestic spending You know if we're really realistically calling that yeah. He's a great one winner. But the saratoga derby was a great one caliber race last year. So two wins in grade one caliber steaks and this horse ahead away from beating him. Integrate one race going distance. It isn't his favourite distance. You know mile races definitely more to his liking than a race. Like the hollywood derby so the fact that he can run that well against a horse like domestic spending and then finish a neck in front of who is a great one winner. And you know. Eric will go on and on about how good guffaw isn't rightfully so. He's very talented and for him to be able to run. That kind of against these kind of caliber horses like going in distance. It isn't his favorite. And the fact that he's been so consistent over the surface at santa anita and just overall in his career. You have to love him going into this race. And i love Smooth like straight going in here. I would not take a would not take against him. Even though there are some very very tempting horses in here. I really liked social. Paranoia is run in the pegasus turf. I think that was another race where he was going a little bit farther than he wanted to but still has the talent to be able to do that but i can't against mood like straightening here. he's going to be the favorite. I'm gonna take a big bite out of that chalk. Embrace it and i'm gonna be right there with you because Any any horse out there that can boost to form of cafo. I want him to succeed. And i only say that kind of kidding but also he's just too good horse. I praised him quite a bit. I have called him. Probably the best one of the best milers in the country right now. certainly believed considering those horses that you mentioned domestic spending enough. Oh they're going to be focusing on longer races down the road In i've gushed and gushed about the milers or a deter. Excuse me that are now. Four year olds from last year. Heading it at twenty twenty one About how good they are. I think that this horse is the best miler august launch. And he's proven it with with those with his wins and he loves santa anita especially as of late. He's he's done some great work over the track Love that umberto respond. He's he wins. At such a high rate on any of course but santa anita especially so tons and tons of reason to like him and it's very interesting. How competent. I know me jack. Are other people. Aren this horse. Cuban the depth of assisi of a lot of horses shipping in from the east coast would makes it a fun. Fundraise you know for for for ten horsfield. Ali obviously very nice to see a big deal down in southern california. But i at least half of this fields on you know don't have enough Mental power to actually counted a large portion of this field ships in for this race. Which is which is a big deal. I mean it is a great one so that obviously carries a lot of weight in a four hundred thousand dollar purse. But it's a good field social paranoia. I think these pace compromising. Here's will not in love with him..

"Wait to us next time because It was the pace has never been a problem for it. She can rally into any pace. That's put in front of her. He was really just more waiting too long. Just let him get the jump. The hold was way too strong on her. She didn't need to be as far back as she was in something. That of course you. I'm not in the jockeys position i can't dictate everything you're gonna do. I don't know maybe the force wasn't responding to them but is certainly would have been a much different race in my opinion if the move was made earlier on her really didn't seem like much. Effort was given at times in the race of warlike goddess for everybody out there. That's that's a feel you have to look for next time out. Disappointing runs for a lot. Were also very wide open race. Sure the top. Two prices in the betty grant one too but Only one hoarseness race was not single. Digits on the odds board and there was a point in the vetting where I think four horses were at nine to two. So that kind of showed how wide open this race split. Awesome pretty funny. How it ended up being and now we're actually going to put the final race at gulfstream on. Hold right now. I want to Put that on. Hold and go over to oakland park and talk about couple of their races before we talk about the two big races on these respective cards. So we're going to switch gears now and talk about the great three razorback sticking with the theme of godolphin running huge mystic guide. A back off the bench for the first time since the jockey club. Gold cup took out this race by six lengths. I thought you know coming into this race. Obviously i picked mystified. And i've been i've picked him. Every race is run in. Since the jim dandy and i thought that the jim dandy was really something that was going to kick off a nice career for him He has he had his. I don't want to say excuses but reasons for running second in the jockey gold cup being significantly wider than happy saver. wasn't that recent. I thought that that was still very very credible. Second to lose less than a link to a really talented racehorse in his own undefeated happy sabre by the way. Easy to forget the happy stabers undefeated or that he even exists. I'm sure that he is kind of fallen down under a lot of people's radar. Happy savior will pop back up at some point And remind everyone that he's a really talented racehorse but mystic guide really strong effort there. And you know. I was a little bit skeptical. But i didn't really love anyone in here overall. So that's why. I took mystic guide over anyone else in this race. I would like to thank all the people who decided to think that owen dell would actually be able to win a race and not run a really nice second or third for making owen. Del favorite and giving me giving me a nicer price with mr god. That i know is not going to be there in. Whatever race is expert. So i want to thank all those people who bet deal to win but being serious. I did not see that six length win for mystic guide coming. This is a really strong race for him. Some big questions that come around whether or not he ends up In dubai for the dubai world cup Eric has told me that he wants it. I really want to see it. You can't imagine a reason why he wouldn't be going over there. Max field is going to be running in the santa anita handicap this weekend. It's a in dubai. The home operating track of in so can't imagine reason why mr guide off of that kind of an effort over some pretty tough tourists in here. Know i did just give owned a little bit of crap but own deal is a machine when it comes to running states place efforts not so much winning these races but he can run second and third and so many of these races all day. Take some really nice paychecks in there and you know other horses sober prospector is not a bad horse at oakland Some upside as well as you know. Longreach taty i know he wasn't. He wasn't very close to mr guide but also horses a stakes winner in the racing. I thought that this was the best field. That ain't any non charlotte or knicks go horse stateside has beaten a while so i think really highly about mr got him gonna hold some my hot takes about him right now and wait till we get closed at his next race before i do reveal. Some of those takes your. That's fair but i i'm a believer now mystic type. One hundred percent Northern anything coming into this race was layoffs at this race was ran in december or january. Probably would have been a little bit more likely to pick it and definitely just proved me wrong in every single way always been a nice horse. Never had the money in seven starts always running. Big raises win. Lose or draw Prayed day one place already. Yeah i agree. I think he he. I believe he has to go to dubai because obviously it's very retraced but at the same time. The dolphin doesn't really happy premier contender for their race Next fields ardy now. She's going to santa anita unless they plan on turning around in three weeks time. I don't think he be there. In the horses they have locally have not really come to fruition. Their horses they've been trying to transition from from turf. Juror is not gone to plan this year. So i think that they probably wanna win the race like they always do But it is interesting because we've never seen them really said over a premier American or to try to take it out for them usually try to do it with one of their vocally base horses. So it'll be interesting that standpoint. This was a very impressive win. Over alot thrashed a really good group of racehorses and is good to see mike's the trainer he's always been very respected but a godolphin's by giving horses for the last few years to try and branch out. It's obviously paying off. Because they have this horse. Who's doing a lot of good things for him and even some some other in his barn of course have done good things in the last couple of years but by foreign away. Mr guide is the best to see them having success dolphin. In general i mean. We'll we'll talk about the morning second foot. Don't want my students and brag hawks in a minute of course very very impressive horse with the lot. Lon- upside still heading into his four year old campaign going down the road now moving on race. Eight at oaklawn the spring fever This is the race that i will say..

"Great. Great players all around in third. They're gonna be fun to watch this year My biggest takeaways. I don't know god's me is at. She's definitely not if the level she wants was at. And i don't know if even with this this race which was pretty good It's enough to to put her back at a great one level like like a race like the four star. But you're saying jack race like the four star as breeders cup so on and so forth and now moving onto the next race This is a race that probably for most people may made the least census weekend the devante. Dale the this race was won by the fifty to one longshot. Whole body meister so If you for some reason i decided to dabble with her. Nice hunt one hundred seven dollar winner for you so if you if you picked her congratulations to you. I don't know that they were any people out there that did but if you're you're a person who likes to pick the third highest shot on the board in grade six races and then that's what you make your bread and butter with and congratulations to you but in all seriousness this race completely changes the whole dynamics dot dynamic. Excuse me of the kentucky oaks trail and you know i. I'm gonna go this far to say that this completely blows up the whole okay trail Because we have the breeder's cup juvenile fillies winner going down in a couple of the other horses in this raise that we thought were somewhat good you know someone good to decent level stakes. Little horses I got pretty pretty badly in here. Mill foy and caroline's catcher the horses. And i'm referring to and just overall looking at the big picture the oaks trail. There's really not a lot of top contenders in the in the ope on the trail. That are not going to have major major question marks going into the oaks or many talented races onto them You know looking at some of the the top names that we've been talking. Obviously venus ran poorly here. I think that's going to take her in terms of winning the oaks in most people's opinions You have the majority of the breeder's cup juvenile fillies field coming back to perform Very very poorly notable exception crazy beautiful. Who did run a decent second place finish in this race but not much talent coming. Back out of that breeder's cup juvenile fillies field And then you have you know six winters on the west coast princess noor and midnight doral who were Horses that princess nor even though she really disappointed in the breeders cup out was probably going to have some nice races in the oaks point races out at santa anita midnight euro a horse. Ooh on the las vegas and then is now off the oaks trail following an injury with that and then You know we have the horses from new day out of the office just worked yesterday out for the first time since january and she only had two works january some kind of setback with her and also mala thought The eric and i were extremely high on coming out of the demos l. had been working steadily through january and then had not Worked for about a month just worked yesterday so to horses newly on the work. Tap yesterday But you know those two verses. And i have my questions about dad at the office but you know even if we assume that both of them are top oak trail horses they're gonna potentially have or they will have one race before the oaks and you know with mala thought if that one star pre oaks and even with a dab the office also if those one starts don't go well they don't run back well off the layoff then you don't get them in kentucky oaks and at that point. It's who's going to win it. So i i know. I didn't skip down on the analysis. I'm gonna turn that over to eric. But i wanted to make the point that this kind of blows up the whole trail and really makes it so that it's wide open and we could potentially see a horse win the kentucky oaks. We weren't even considering last week When it just the fact that you know the breeder's cup juvenile fillies winner got Had a really really bad performance. I don't want to say that you know. She's not not a good horse. But that was definitely something you want to see from a horse that you would pick to win the oaks and then you know you just see the amount of injuries and the horses that are going to be coming back off of the layoff. It really blew up the whole okay. Division to to kind of emphasize that term That i created absolutely. I totally agree with those points. Now let's get into the race. You sound that up pretty well. Whole bodey meister sick to win. His is one thing twenty six and a half beating horses that have any Chiro champion pilion crazy. Beautiful news grade stage places. Run dynamite races in her career Some other really good stakes winners behind her mill. Foils parisiens mouth Koliba whole boating. Meister handle them with ease. I mean this was very impressive. Wire-to-wire score the fractions. Were pretty on a quicker side. I definitely say so once again. Just complete completely out of nowhere to win this race but Obviously when you see something like this happen you have to see is. There's something. I missed when when i watched the when when handicapping this race to to have this happen in looking back on it. Yeah there were some things that i certainly missed it. I've agean Quite a few other people missed. This is why why replays are so valuable To to to your handicapping. In general. I wish i picked this up. I was a little bit too in trance by audience.

"Is racy one hundred percent after because i think there's a lot of talent in here i just think only is best so lot lot of pleasure this saturday at gulfstream. Now we'll head back west to santa anita for there to saturday stakes The big one being the sham but as well The technically the you know technically the bigger race the grey to san gabriel comes first rate seven in. It's all the veterans that you see in this division. Your teams Horse no horse in this race i think is under the age of five considering Up it's pretty crazy year in three trainers. Have six of the seven runners in here. Baltiski amata when miller. So it's exactly what you'd expect from southern california turf graded stakes and i think it's obviously wide open like these always are but ultimately went and ultimately went with the horse. I think we'll probably be second choice. Five count again the winner of the seabiscuit handicap in his first start for the motto. Last time out at del mar on thanksgiving weekend. That was a super impressive. Win closed from office. Slow paced ran down very talented horse. Flavius speed a couple of horses that are returning in this race. like next shares and bowie's hero an he just had to have some fun in my opinion seemed like he could have won by more. If you really need to closing kick was super impressive to me. Now gets an extra sixty mile and realistically i think the distance is always gonna be on this horse inside pedigree wise. You can see it then. He wanted to grade three singspiel. Going a mile and a quarter in september would woodbine so he has distanced distance for days in my opinion In his leg. So for that reason i think that this extra sixteenth will will complement him very nicely given that win in the seabiscuit. And he's just in the best form in my opinion. I think another twist of fate will be favored was fourth in the seabiscuit. But it was. I run on grass. Peter miller horses. Take a ton of money. I think he didn't run baton seabiscuit but i just encounter against better but i don't necessarily think that will be reflected on the odds for as we get post time in this race. You obviously have other good horses in here. You have horses like next year's envoys here who both ran fine races in the seabiscuit in our stalwart division. And then you have you know bother. Jackie who i think is still very talented but ultimately think that count again is the best horse in this year. San gabriel now. We get to the saturday feature the grade. Three shipments a five horsfield. But there are four horses in this race. Who i think are legitimate kentucky derby courses maybe not winners but i think for the five forces in this in the sam are worthy of positions in the derby starting gate the sham israeli under under credited race. I should put it that way. Obviously this year produced the kentucky derby winner rediscovered plastic winner Most likely authentic in addition in the past it's countless british cup runners placers in winners. You go to the likes of. Mackenzie collected both breeders cup. Classic runner ups later on in your career. Further back tap is the Mile horses that also just ran in the research secret circle back in twelve when the breeder's cup sprint earlier this earlier Eight years ago so this is very productive breaks and he doesn't always get that credit is produced a derby starter nine of the last eleven years so obviously worth watching. The highlight is one hundred percent. Life is good. He towers over this field. I've been saying it. And i'm not i'm not alone in this. Obviously because he's just that good just very willing to buy into the fact that he is the best three-year-old in west coast right now. Probably the best thrilled in country. If i were to be so bold he was just dominant when my nine and a half barely can ask by might smith when you rent a hole in the win. Pretty he was just seated everything right now. he's working perfectly for baffert. He's probably gonna get better as he stretches out. There's in my opinion. i just don't see a way. He loses this race. That's how good he's been that being said. I am picking against my favorite three on the west coast right now. Up the best but my favorite in parnelli. I think he is so good. I think primarily is one hundred percent a legitimate kentucky derby horse. I only think that life is good. Hot rod charlie are better right now. Hot rod charlie's barely better than parnelli right now in my opinion. He's three straight second company behind. Know huber lasalle futurity when a hot rod. Charlie juvenile runner up and then he won for fun by almost six points at donmar last time out. He's a very good horse he's not going to be. Life is good. But he's very good. And then you know to the to the other courses. I think are good medina spirit. He was really nice breaking his. He's really up against it here because he didn't beat a lot low south first time out. You only going five. And a half prolongs. He's gonna enjoy stretching out based off this pedigree But ultimately don't think that he is of this level lastly the to wasp As i was super high on this summer. I picked him when he ran that fourth in the american farrell. He was a little off that day. He's gotten some time to really develop in. my opinion. blinkers come off. He's going to be much different horse than i think. He's gonna run a credible race like an. I love the talent in this streets that at the end of the day. They're all running. Second behind like is good. And lastly we will wrap up with. Sunday's great t santa ynez at santa anita while four newly minted three year old fillies in this race that in the last four years or so has been extremely productive unique fella midnight. Beast's bell athena best. that's a lot of bs. And that is a lot of talented racehorse right. There are obviously vast last year probably would have been leading contender for the kentucky. Oaks if you hadn't gotten injured after this race of yoga the three before that all did it did a lot of good work in their careers after this. I know midnight be soon. -veloping both placed in breeders cup races Later on their careers after winning this race unique fellow was favored in the sprint. Twenty seventeen so tons of talent in even go further back. there's plenty of nice phillies there as well. But point is it's a productive race. And i don't think it'll be any different this year Seven phillies go in four. Come from the bob baffert bond of after bar at plenty of really nice. You know phillies outbreak there. Maine's chiro last year in. He's showing it here. He has two stakes winners including the starlet winter. Farda in the runner-up calypso a maiden winter. An exotic west and then frost area who still maiden. But let me tell you. She's been impressive in her. Three starts all good seconds behind talented. Plus you have other states place burners like queen and nasreen makes a really good field here in. of course i'm going to go with the baffert. Just it's really hard not to but i went with calypso here wouldn't be surprised to see her gaw favored because i think my logic and picking her. It's probably gonna be followed by quite a few people. She hasn't a distance pedigree in my eyes. But you when you watch her she really seemed like spring and that's where she's done the most for work not she's done her best work including that win Indian ochia last fall at santa. Anita was very good very gritty But i think the two turns extra sixty tomorrow. Probably got to her. As he gets to back to seven she gets to go one turn. It seems really good for her The pace presence You know she has low speed and she's gonna show it. But i don't really see any of these other phillies going up and throwing down three plus i feel like Especially florida in frost area. Those two phillies who going to take a lot of money. I think they're more to turn horses..

"On fighting, mad I. Think <Speech_Music_Male> it's it's <Speech_Male> general <Speech_Music_Male> sense. She's <Speech_Music_Male> very talented <Speech_Music_Male> <hes> it's her last <Speech_Music_Male> race have been very <Speech_Male> good and <Speech_Music_Male> I have a hard time believing <Speech_Music_Male> she was just here. She's GonNa <Speech_Music_Male> have to have a go wrong. <Speech_Male> Underneath <Speech_Music_Male> I like to <Speech_Music_Male> mainly <Speech_Music_Male> the three year old Filly Harvest <Speech_Music_Male> Moon. She's coming <Speech_Music_Male> off a <Speech_Male> win last time our <Speech_Music_Male> degrades <Speech_Music_Male> dumb are another nice when <Speech_Music_Male> she's rattled off <Speech_Music_Male> three straight all <Speech_Music_Male> of undefeated on the d'oeuvres <Speech_Music_Male> than very impressive <Speech_Music_Male> <hes> <Speech_Music_Male> and she's going to get a little <Speech_Male> bit more distance next <Speech_Music_Male> to sixteenth of a mile <Speech_Music_Male> compared to what she's been running <Speech_Music_Male> a <Speech_Music_Male> little untested but <Speech_Music_Male> very talented <Speech_Music_Male> nonetheless <Speech_Music_Male> Netra third I'll go the to <Speech_Music_Male> proud Emma. She's <Speech_Music_Male> coming off a win in the <Speech_Music_Male> tranquility lake <Speech_Music_Male> in her last start <Speech_Male> out the second start <Speech_Male> of the year. Really <Speech_Male> the big indicators <Speech_Music_Male> to be Friday's <Speech_Music_Male> race chilling. <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> The horse that be her <Speech_Male> in her first start <Speech_Male> here and the horse <Speech_Music_Male> that was a second <Speech_Music_Male> behind her in that <Speech_Music_Male> states race last time <Speech_Male> out message both <Speech_Male> go in <Speech_Music_Male> the killings worth. <Speech_Music_Male> At Santa Anita <Speech_Music_Male> on Friday. So if <Speech_Male> those two run well <Speech_Male> proud was certainly gonna <Speech_Male> look a little live. So <Speech_Male> one, three, two, there <Speech_Male> my top three <Speech_Male> in the Xanada. <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> And the last <Speech_Male> recent we have four. <Speech_Male> This weekend <Speech_Male> is the great to Santa. <Speech_Male> Sprint Championship, <Speech_Male> you've <Speech_Male> got some three <Speech_Male> highly touted <Speech_Male> horses coming in here <Speech_Male> Illusion <Speech_Male> is obviously the big <Speech_Male> class field coming out <Speech_Female> of the great one win second <Speech_Female> time he beat <Speech_Male> elders this year Ceesay <Speech_Male> rocket <Speech_Male> <hes> who was claimed <Speech_Male> four <Speech_Male> starts back for trainer <Speech_Male> Peter Miller. <Speech_Male> The Usual Peter <Speech_Male> Miller formula <Speech_Male> <hes> being able to <Speech_Female> to turn a horse like <Speech_Female> that from that level <Speech_Female> integrated six <Speech_Female> when he got his greatest <Speech_Female> aches when in the <Speech_Male> Pat O'Brien last <Speech_Male> out it was a <Speech_Male> good victory for <Speech_Male> him. You've also got flagstaff <Speech_Female> who is a stakes <Speech_Male> winner earlier <Speech_Male> in the year at Santa Anita. <Speech_Male> You've also <Speech_Male> got a couple of <Speech_Male> grizzled veterans, <Speech_Female> desert law <Speech_Male> and John Expectation <Speech_Male> who is a? <Speech_Female> Stakes winner <Speech_Female> from past. But <Speech_Female> <hes> has looked <Speech_Female> this year a little <Speech_Female> bit over the hill <Speech_Female> and you know <Speech_Female> erase where <Speech_Female> know five horses <Speech_Female> I'm not gonNA. "Original. He's another one who consistently include insistently runs grace just not always where I needed as. One for me when I needed to do like for third. And this is not a race where the next one the awesome. Again, it's not really a racer. We need to waste much time with a top threes the top two you take one look at it in just pick what route you WANNA go maximum security and improbable. At one point that I will make it. I will make this in the youtube preview that I have for the awesome. Again, that will be out. Later on. Probably out by the time that this is uploaded, but this is the acid test for maximum security. He's had two wins. You know like like we said the two of us in terms of analyzing him wiped out everything and with Jason Service Right. Now, horse has two wins those the only two wins it matter for us. This is the test though he's for the first time. This year's running against a horse that is all his level improbable grade one winner at Santa Anita this year also great. One winner at the distance at Saratoga even though there were some excuses for the best horse in the race times day TA still a good race for him beat by my standards as well who came back and ran a really good race in the alysheba Churchill downs. So there's obviously good form coming out of the Whitney and improbable I. AM honestly going to go with him just because I just I'm waiting for maximum security to beat me so I'm going to give him the opportunity to beat me Here and I will also. Go that route because I have taken improbable for. So I'm going to go with the route that works again in a grade one dirt race at Santa Anita but it really going top three in this does not matter. I also WANNA probable. How much Just, degrade disdain I ever nets and security in court and the other changes in your allowance at best.

"Quite a bit nutty innovator step time in terms of the. Potential. Falling big wins because I only expect him to get better with time and I think he has a big future in his. And that does lead us to the other segment that we usually do at the beginning of the show but you know stuff is fluid here So I will toss it over to Eric to get into his two year old segment from this week. Very strong weekend I was impressed with quite a few horses I'm a mentioned a couple of others then go into. My top two I've got usually do every weekend that I was on a personal time was Chad Brown of million. Dollar yearling named Zion is a dollar rob a broker may Belmont Park second asking that was a nice win a Saint Dando Mont another very nice of course on the grass this time Christoph Tomorrow namespace launch one at I ask in then another horse all mentioned I one by the name of of staying out late for Steve Speech in this was a son of tap it from a pretty strong family wanted Churchill very nicely I mean this was A. Very professional win a by that cold and I think that he's one certainly to look forward to obviously as always loaded he has a pretty soon the most wins in the country right now is a trainer if not, he's definitely up there. Yes quite you every year but the top twelve focus on both one on a Saturday. The first one being likable for Todd Pletcher a cult of by a frost I first crop sire their a one going mile at Mount by eight and a quarter links in really was not really ask for much Lewis is for that day. We kind of noticed with some of these early frosted runners offering a process, the more distance, the more time better, and this is certainly benefited from I. Love to see him prepped for braces in a race like the champagne, which is about three weeks out. So I think that would work really well for him but even that is the worst I could see go straight to degrees at have some sort of impact. He seems to be that liberal horse really no matter what Todd pletcher best two year olds. Kentucky Derby soon, it come anger from September to November. That's when I think they really start to emerge. In no matter what I think that this has a big chance will keep towards the first. Saturday may twenty twenty one. WanNa. Talk about his personal remind is the Villian. I really liked at. The training earlier this year Ban Ki, choose Marion present I I'm asking Cheek Doug close from well out of its second last Nossa race rally really well, you know it really watching the race down the stretch I'm like ocean might get four. So it looks like she get third and then she just kept coming telling you actually won by tuna quarter very impressed. This is another one I'd love to. See Prep. For Breeders, Cup Race I know that the local prevalent Business Grillo for for her sake at Belmont of an easily in a couple of weeks time. So get a little short is another one no matter what I think that time she's GonNa be dealt develop into a really nice graded states caliber phillies so by too unlikable or my top two Chiro to watch coming out of this weekend. And now we're going to get to the first of what is going to be a pretty big weakness. We have breeders, Cup races, and. While this race isn't a Breeders Cup challenge as it is a five and a half furlong sprint. Same conditions ask Breeders Cup, Turf Sprint. So we'll be talking about that and this features the comeback to the grass for the first time since the Shaker town for the Doug O'Neill trained Wild Man Jack. Earlier this year graded stakes win in the Daytona at Santa. Anita, going the same distance also on the also WANNA turf sprint it made on earlier this year. So has two good victories this year Shaker town definitely was not a race at You look at on paper and would say that this is a horse that coming into a race like this. You definitely not be very confident in him but I'm willing to give him a little bit of a pass for that I think getting back to the grass last start was on dirt and that was a very. There were a lot of horses coming from behind in that race. I think that this is a race that. The add he can get back to form in run up to what he ran in the Daytona. It also does help that he's back at Santa Anita for the first time since that Daytona so I like him in here but you know with turf sprints, you never know with horses because you know I, it's just such a wild card division that horses like this could definitely, you'd think they're gonNA run well, not run well, they ended up not running well at all or could happen the complete opposite, but I will. Swallowed at thirteenth place finish in the town I'll put him on top here. This. Is a really good horse. We we know what he did in Daytona we know what he did. Rebbe dime. I went cross that was that was a really tough race in still renovate.

Can any long shots stun Tiz The Law at Ky. Derby?

"All right. Jody Delhi is going to give us the odds on the Kentucky Derby race. Of course we've heard about is the law. Everybody's liked his. The law is the law. Well, there are other horses in the race. Right, Jody? That's right. Says the law is 45. This is current odds right now. They just opened the windows this morning. Ah, 25 minutes ago. This is current odds. Tis a law fortified. And then there is a pretty good distance between him and the next horses. And the next course is there's actually a pretty good distance of who are a pretty good racer. Who's the second choice right now. It would be Santa Anita Derby winner Honor AP at 8 to 1 Authentic, though, is 9 to 1. That's Bob Baffert horse who won the Haskell Tendo one Bob Baffert horse 1000 words Who won the shared beliefs. So you've got those horses? Ahh, right there. All four vying for second choice in the Derby. Let's run from the inside, post position out. We'll give you all of the odds here. A CZ. We go through it finish the fierce. The number one horse, The one eyed gilding has been scratched. He is not running in the race number two Max player, Ricardo Santana Jr. The jockey, Steve asked. Musa is the trainer Max player. Is down. 18 Toe one. He was a morning line. 30 to 1. He's back. He's been bet. Pretty good. So far enforceable. Adam. The skits of the jockey Mark Cassie is the trainer 23 to 1 down a little bit from 30 to 1 in the morning line. Storm. The court who was the breeder's Cup juvenile champion last year, Julien Les Peru is the jockey Peter Kurten is the trainer 26 to 1, Major fed James Graham and Greg fully 34 to 1. They were 50 to 1 in the morning line. Number six. King Guillermo has been scratched. Money moves. This is the one that is interesting to me. Money moves from Todd Pletcher, making just his fourth career start. Was a 32 1 in the morning line and is getting bet. Heavy. Todd Pletcher's Horse Down 15 to 1 South Bend. I don't think all the Notre Dame Ah money has come in yet on South Been 34 to 1, Tyler Gaffney, Leone and Belmont trainer. Mr Big News. Gabriel Sias trainer Brett Calhoun 47 to 1 number 10,000 words as we said 10 to 1. Number 11 Necker Island, who, by the way will have his blinkers off, so he's been running with blinkers on in his last few races. He will not wear blinkers today 51 to 1 Miguel Mania and Chris Hartman is the trainer. Soul a Valon Day. Patrick being cone Lucas Panici is the jockey Volonte 29 to 1 attachment, Right, Dale? Romans 49 the one I thought that he would actually get a bet down. I'm a little surprised that that one winning surprise winning impression is no surprise. He is 52 to 1, the longest shot on the board. Dallas Stuart and Joe Rocco. In the irons, New York traffic 15 to 1, Paco Lopez and Saffy Joseph is Ah Ah, actually, I think he's gonna end up being like the third or fourth choice when it's all said and done. Probably a little bit of a buzz horse here out here among the horseman Honore P. 8 to 1 in the 16 post position with Mike Smith. John Sheriff's is the trainer. Tis the law 4 to 5, Manny Franco and Barclay Tagg. An authentic on the outside Bob Baffert 9 to 1 John Velazquez in the iron, So there's your Kentucky Derby odds for right now and again betting is open. And we've got a bunch of our hot We have 30 minutes to the first post 31 minutes right now to the first post long time before we get to the Kentucky Derby, So a lot of money will be bet on there, Terry.

"Budget stakes. Nita will start in re number four bobby the desert code named after the two thousand eight turf, Sprint winner I believe we just kept turf sprint winner down the hill. I believe it was two thousand and eight five and a half wrongs. Maybe, it was oh seven, not sure five and a half furlongs. No more hill We feel the six. And it's unfortunate I wish they were still running down the hill, but now we get five and a half furlongs on them were conventional turf course, and there's plenty of speed as you may expect in this race number, one Phantom boss number five party town both the speed of the speed plane, and simply I think number. Four rookie mistake is better than this field. She's been in the money. All four tries on the senator turf course to. To wins two thirds. She's learned how to sit a little bit off the pace and come with a bit of a run. Six furlongs looked like it was a little too far for her last time out five and a half furlongs. I think it's a right between the eyes or hit. It's m right between the eyes and I think rookie mistake at five to two is a horse that I would single if I'm playing horizontal wagers. Bobby Newman, perhaps saying. She because the number two, she's so special on the boys. She beat them last time in an entry level allowance optional claimer where it appears. She was in for the tag. She'd runs through conditions. She was in for the tag. Nobody claimed her now. She's two to one morning line favorite. Boys in the desert coat. She is a perfect two for two at five and a half promos. Don't let the distance marker in the region form full you. They clump in the five furlongs in the five and a half. She's a perfect two for two at five and a half furlongs Peter. "Which you know which was over in France and in France a mile and an eighth is probably a little bit closer to an American mile and a quarter And then he also wanted. Milen quarter race over in France In his best American-run was also at ten for in the Derby. So He's definitely going to appreciate the distance however that the weird thing about the Mile and a quarter on the grass Starting point is it's downhill from from the break it's downhill and we've seen a lot of times in raisins like that forces you don't usually Who WHEN GET STIFF MY OWN QUARTER OUT OF TRACK? Belmont are able to to carry that Day at the SPA is probably the biggest one I can think of even in the Philly in mirror going back to last year horse like era. Desa PROBABLY BETTER. Meyler bill because of that Santa Anita Start is able to get a bit of a solid run-up to kind of save some energy that does point horse like the six original air who At a mile and an eighth one and allowance by five lengths at Santa Anita last time out and does have Umberto Rissoli who is writing the standing needed. Per Course as good as has in the history of Santa Anita. You've been on fire there Since since coming here in at the beginning of this year so I think Even the top two united in rock emperor or the most proven They're also not the best horse in the world and you have a horse like originator. Who's been running some pretty good races? getting a little bit more distance which might just be Something he needs. He's run probably best races. The longer you've been allowed to go Good connections right.

"Really nice races up in New York and I think Dan jurgens starting to really figure out what this horse needs though. He's a six year old with a lot of experience hard so the next. We'RE GOING TO SKIP OVER THE MATT. Win and go on and talk about the war chant. We'll come back and do some solid horses in this race. That headline out. Billy Batts is the first one on billy. Batts was second in the Breeders Cup turf behind structure last year. You also have field pass. Who in his most recent start won the Jeff Ruby? A TURF WAY. He's get back on the grass of her son. Like I've mentioned in the past horses that can run on those synthetic another twist of fate. I know those. Those are two completely different sources. Another twist of fate always struck me as grass roots and he ran a really nice race synthetic Golden Gate and I would not be surprised in here to see Fueled passing ran that nice race in Jeffrey. Become back here and run really well in a race like the war champ again. This is another another wide. Open race lottery routing. There's a lot of shots you can take in here. You know this another type of research you look at it and you say. I don't know who I'm going to go with. Because the favourite probably is definitely has a potential to get beat. So lot of routes. You can go very very wide open. Like I mentioned and Eric Probably GonNa have a long shot to go within here. I'll take one of those two Billy batts or pass but again you know I I make mention here longshot. Play take take a shot in here because this is definitely race it you take a shot in. I take favorites a lot. More than the average handicapper does saw that. That's just my two cents on. That is a wide open race like an obviously wide.

"All right so we're back this week on racing on episode number sixty two. We got a lot of stuff to get to on this show so much sakes action this weekend. They're like I mentioned Gulfstream kind of filled up the calendar last weekend. But this is the first real weekend where everything gets back into it but I just want to. We got a lot of stuff to get to. So we're going to very briefly. Just take a look back at some of the some races down Gulfstream and also talk about the couple of allowance racists from Churchill. This weekend that are we're talking about as well as hit on the desert stormer out at Santa Anita so just to recap from last weekend Friday Saturday Sunday done at Gulfstream on Friday. Total a shape back in the winter circle in that race Double Crown on Saturday when the war stakes. Jakarta won the powder break and musical. Romance went to Lady's Island and then finally the Sunday silence on Sunday was won by just whistle so like I mentioned we wanted to just get through these a really quickly but we will just hit one one thing until the shape. She's back in the winter. Circle runs while golf stream in lower level stakes. So you know. We picked against her both of US air. Eric has been the king of Ping against a toll shape but just briefly mention Yoshi in races like this really hard racist like this Gulfstream. It's really hard to doubt her. She's got to do it at some other. Some other level Whether it's in another graded stakes race or at another track which That still remains to be seen whether or not she does that. So that's just the one comment that we have from this weekend and maybe also the other thing is don't Right off the fact that green like Oh might in fact the horse wants to go longer. that those are the takeaways that I had from this weekend. Also worth mentioning the powder. Break Him off the turf. So that's why got stormy did not run this weekend. So that race kind of lost a lot of its luster there. So that's my take wisdom. This weekend I'll let Eric. I Know Eric Mall just one thing quickly on God stormy before we move onto some of the other races from this weekend forgot storming race came off the turf so obviously he was running. Took a lot of the town away. We also saw the to Chad Brown horses. Scratch from that spot We'll see wherever they decided to come back. Churchill probably as a couple race we could see.

"Be intriguing to see where they go with him and little paranoia I think he'll be running. Those big Be graded stakes. This was a one-off raised. I imagine todd pletcher wasn't too upset considering He had the he had the winner in this. So that's it for several last week. It was a pretty light weekend for racing across the country. But before we get to where we're GONNA lead golfing for a minute. I want to go to Churchill downs and talk about the the pair of allowance races that we got coming up this weekend brings the return of Mon girl. Obviously as we mentioned earlier who has not run since her win in the Breeders Cup distaff at the end of her three year. Old Campaign She's been she's won or been second and offer starts only second two times one nine so obviously you don't need to tell me how consistent. Montemar girl has been you know. Her record speaks for self Breeders Cup. Distaff winner Kentucky Oaks Winner Eclipse Award winner champion three year. Old Filly in two thousand eighteen. She did not run last year but she's been working up to this point and I think it's a good move by Brad Cox to start her in a race like this as opposed to maybe running in a race like the Shawny I start back off of a layoff as long as the one that Montemar girl has had and you know there are some girls. Not The only horse in this race There's a couple other horse in this race. That are fairly solid horses but I just don't think even with the layoff As concerning the layoff is with Manteo girl even with the laugh. I just don't think the ninety one really is going to be able to step up and beat her. She's equality horse and I just. I don't have any concerns with her. I realized that you know the layoff. It definitely it would be a turnoff for a lot of people but just I would not be super inclined to say that you know just because of the layoff. Montemar girls are not going to be able to come back and turn on a plus effort. We've seen her win a lot of big races and I think she is going to start back up and have some some kind of good campaign. Whatever aid ends up being this year but layoff is a concern but not enough to not pick her. I agree with that with that sentiment. There Wall Wallet is a group Group. I mean the three fashion pope hot is a stakes where he's taking dropping in class here off of the big layoff and she's been good In addition to your his life Talk to me the Civic Su Usually at one point in time was considered one of the best three year old phillies in the country a couple years ago. "All right so we're back this week. Episode Number Sixty one we got a lot of listed races are listed six down all over the country as well as a couple of very interesting allowance races at Churchill downs. Just kind of passing along some news. That has happened over the course of this week. A lot of you know as we mentioned last week. A lot of tracks were beginning the reopening process Santa Anita has as of yesterday got their clearance to reopen Racing without spectator so we will have all the races insanity to that. We have missed over the course of time. We'll have those on there as well. Some races that had been planned for the beginning of June end of May beginning June. So we'll see all those races at Santa Anita comeback in one way or another also worth mentioning the updated Kentucky Derby points races those come out from Churchill down so very interesting to see some of the some of the races that have gotten Kentucky Derby points a lot of lot of tracks around the country have races that are now at the very minimum ten up to the Belmont sticks which is a hundred fifty point race for winner of that race. We'll get one hundred fifty points toward the Kentucky Derby so a lot of research can go check that out. If you're curious to see what races are what races at what tracks have what amount of points so you know. There's that as well as I already mentioned the large amount of listed races at Gulfstream. Put together for us as well as a couple nice allowance races at Churchill downs featuring the comeback of monoploy role and the return of Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint Winter. Four wheel drive up. He looked very good in his win. The Breeders Cup Juvenile. It's GonNa be as I start of the year but before we get to talk about that stuff we're gonNA talk about Just the one race. We talked about on the show last week. which was the sunshine forever stakes up which we talked about going into that race. Saw that war will was going to be the big horse running in it and Unfortunately the morning of the race war of will was scratched. So that kind of blew the the segment that we had on that Basically saying that we thought were of will was not necessarily a cinch but this is a really good spot for him but aside from more of will Defecting from the race a very good very good race run by one by a horse holiday who has run a couple nice Racist down a Gulfstream. In obviously the aforementioned sunshine forever and then before that getting an allowance win and then prior to that Also at Gulfstream on December. Twenty eighth he won the Tropical Parker Resell so nice racist for him. At Gulfstream mixed in a fourth place effort at Tampa Bay downs. But it was a nice race for him. Social Paranoia Guppy by decent group of horses. Not exactly what you wanted to see. But I'm not ready to say that. Social Paranoia is a one off or anything like that. He'll use fine. You know obviously a bit of a setback. But he'll come back that's not going to derail a campaign for him.

"Mcglaughlin have been their whole career so they in their east coast based so just looking at one through six who are all based out west and just kinda shows you how weird this this handicap divisions in America not only but also out in the west coast Considering many of these horses have been clamours sold at horses of racing obeyed sales just a very bizarre group of horses to say the least but nevertheless a good group or I'm not gonNA deny that it's a very talented group. Definitely all had very strange careers. I'm going to focus on the east coast forces because I think they're both more talented than Maybe not more talent. I should say more talented. I think they're as talented as the two west coast hopes here gift box midcourt. We talked about gift box extensively How we think he's how we think he's legit but we thought he was going to Saudi and he did and that gives me confidence that he's going to run big. Here is the highway though and gives eleven pounds to Hawford in endorsed which to me is kind of insane. Hockberg is no slouch at all to be carrying one hundred fifteen pounds which is actually less than the two thirty five. He's been very average eighties. California stakes races seems very disrespectful. To me I think cough break. This is make or break time for him for sure You know he's coming off a big layoff in the mine shaft which is why ag- knocked y kind of have to throw that race out and he's only ran two times since the fall of two thousand eighteen but when he puts his best foot forward. He's a very good horse. He's he was second in the Florida Derby and I As three year old and gave back that up a really good reason to Kentucky Derby just an awful trip and then the Belmont. He ran a really good third before he came back into chrome to win by. Maybe maybe ten weeks so I think he's a good worst nineteenth that he's getting to an optimal distance a mile quarter probably his best distance. So I I think it's just because I like hoffer lot now have that I'm denim citing within here but I just think that this race went in. I do like that flavor of Support Flavian. Pratt rides out of his mind every time he's at Santa Anita so I'm GonNa go Hockberg on top of Midcourt I don't know facing this kind of group is because we talk. We're going to give it to them. That was before we knew gift box in Hoffer in endurance. We're going to show up in the spot. We didn't know that we were going to give it to face off the back that none of those three showed up those three showed up. I think he's the best horse in this race so I'm GonNa Cau- On top and that's fairly gift box fairly being exciting gift boxes. I mean he is the class this. This west coast handicapped did and endorsed of youngest horse in the race. The only four year old which is pretty pretty weird to save at least in a great raid one race but he came back in the grocery mouths race in rain. Huge definitely underrated based off of the factory ranch fourth in the travers to starts back against the likes of Mutual Gustavo WHO WANNA PAY. His task disarranged huge last time out in the Saudi Cup and the winner of that race code honor. Who went onto win Jockey Club Gold Cup not to mention finishing ahead of some pretty solid horses as well so on. Go Hawks on top Over the Fox over endorsed Midcourt. Listen if those three weren't showing up I would. I would definitely given give him all the praise in the world but he's just not at that level so that's about it for this episode looking ahead to the next couple weeks we got to. Arkansas is coming up next week. Obviously the rebel big grade one race. We'll talk about that. We'll talk about all the stuff that happened this weekend. A one thing. That one other notable piece of information came out. This week is the annual nominations for the hall of fame. So if you remember back from the early days of this show over on Youtube I chronicled. All the cases looked at all the cases of the fever all the horses in all the people who are up for consideration law fame. We're going to do that again. This Year Eric. Split that up. Eric's going to do the horses that I did last year. and also he's going to take a look at my. Guy Doug O'Neill goes you know as much as I could put aside buys. It's much easier to to let eric do it So so those will be coming out over. The course of the time between This week and all the way up until the May sixth one when we find out who is inducted Hopefully we'll get we'll get into that toward that points or not really gonNa just wanted to mention that. We're not get into big hall of fame stuff on this show but we'll get to that down the road as well so that's coming up. We'll see you next week on racing run out..

"The Breeders Cup. Still Seems Fluke Seems Fluke as it happened and it was backed by that Dole effort in the San sentate coming back to two terms. I have a little bit more Respect for him but even that it's it's hard for me to see this as a horse. Second contend with the two baffles. The horse I think is the most legitimate of legitimate threat to the beverage. Despite the bit of a layoff is wrecking crew You don't run I know he said that. The breeders don't list fluky but he was consistent before is third in the Breeders Cup juvenile second in the del Mar futurity which yes another week. Race But he has the talent. He's he's been consistent. Nevertheless Lasalle futurity was just a weird race in general so I can't knock him for that but he he ran really well in the best pal is his third start in Iran wound down Murphy Charity Herein. Very well in the Breeders Cup and destroy lines that Lewis healthy turtles a weird race for him. He's been very consistent. And Peter Miller Kinda Guy who can move a horse forward off of the layoff he gives. Horses lay off for a reason. He thinks city time you giving a horse time so I think he's maybe the the biggest threat however I don't think he's going to beat him. I think it's definitely authentic one thousand words to wrecking crew is gonNA run a good. I don't think he's GonNa get blown out of the water here. I think he's only get beat. A couple of weeks set him up for Santa Anita Derby run and moving onto the libraries. We're GONNA talk about on this show. Today is Sanity Handicapped Not necessarily didn't necessarily play out how eric and I were expecting after the San Pascall Eric and I were basically handing this race to mid court With the assumption that gift box was gonna go across the ocean of Saudi Arabia. Now that did not happen in gift boxes here. He's going to try to repeat win in the Senate any cap and not you and I were a little bit too quick to hand midcourt this any handicap because as a gift boxes. Of course you know if you're already talking about how how well he's done at Sanaa Nita in the past. We Want Sanity handicapped last year very tough race for him to win very very nice win. A Mackenzie pushed him to to the limit in Santa Anita Handicap last year and You know gearbox show that he was a really classy horse in that one You've also got combatant. Who was third in that? I don't think combatant so win. Contender in the spot but He John Sheriff says tournament or Excuse Me John. Sadler has turned him around a little bit. it will be interesting to see how How mid courts can be able to do when he runs against another horse of high-calibre? Eric cannot have both said mid courts. Not a high caliber horse. But he's the type of that could definitely benefit from the the star horses being overseas. Now that give vox all. It is not overseas though it will. We'll have to see how he's GonNa Handle. That still could be a worse. It could win but I'm not not at all ready to hand him. This race The the to the degree that we were at the San Pascual. You've also got endorsed. We talked care mcglockton already. This could be a final. Like last Hurrah. Great Win for Karen McLaughlin If you're sentimental type of person rooting for this force also bill much brain out. Hockberg on he was seventh in the mineshaft. Not a great start for him but Hockberg has been a horse that looked to have something not really sure if it's there but You know he's out here. He's in the race. He's got a chance to do it. we'll see if he can yeah this horrid only further. I just want to talk about how interesting this group of forces their eight horse in the race. Horses one through six have all switched trainers at one point in their career to. I four for the first five of I. Six horses from one to six posts in order have changed ownership at some point in their career the seven and eight. Hof Offspring endorsed From Judd farms and Godolphin Belmont care. Mcglaughlin have been their whole career so they in their east coast based so just looking at one through six who are all based out west and just kinda shows you how weird.

"Belongs on the grass despite that pedigree of which has tons of dirt graded stakes winner in it He's kingly is a very nice horse on his best day and one reason I think he has a big chance in this race it. There's not a lot of release fees and this is a horse. Who has maybe sprinter's speed that he can carry a very long distance. He sets pretty quick fractions for Mile Races and is able to carry it. A evident by hiccup win last summer at Del. Mar Touching on got story. I think that last rates. I'm drawing the lines for now Obviously if she doesn't perform this upcoming Saturday I know that that is definitely. I definitely regressed from last year but I have to give her credit. You're in super good at Santa Anita in her in the Breeders Cup a little while ago and I just think she has the talent and I don't think she's regressed. My pick is going to be river bowling. He's he's a favorite of mine. He always has been super consistent as ever since he came to the United States. As a as a late two year old and She just carry. That is one last time kind of just prove that he has a he still hasn't. He's coming off five six straight losses. A dating back to last year and yet his last bounceback super super incredibly winning by two and a half lengths over a pretty solid through multiple coming out of Multiple coming into this race out of that same last race. So he's going to be my pick. I think God stormy runs big but I just think because in like Santa Anita as much as he does it's going to benefit them just slightly more so river going. My pay always been a favorite of mine over got stormy over kingly for third moving onto the San Felipe in this race is obviously rightfully so going to be dominated by Bob Baffert. You know I've had the conversation with Matt many people about this just pointing this out my own time. It's kind of like the way Bob Baffert going about the Kentucky Derby this year. It's like he's playing a game of risk Trying to figure out what horses to put where get the most amount of points in what particular races. And you know we always knew that the two California stakes winners. Authentic thousand words out would be sticking around at Santa Anita and would run in the San Felipe and it's an now that they're both entered. It's very likely that these two horses both run one to At this point. I'm not sure which one does when this authentic Stephanie. The more flashy one thousand words still Very Nice Babur. So Up in the air as to which baffert horse wins this race. But the the prediction that I have for this reason and Eric talking about this agreed with me on this. Is that the fact that Bob Baffert most likely is gonNA run into in this race but Not to only focus on Bob Baffert some other horses. Obviously Breeders Cup Juvenile Winter Storm. The court didn't have the greatest performance. Last start out. The Sanford sent day. He was fourth of five horses. Excuse me four to six horses. Not The Obviously not what you wanted to see from the defending too euro champion coming up but certainly not anything that would keep him from running well in this race in a potentially get getting to the Kentucky Derby. You've also got honor. Ap Son of Honor Code. Who was a really nice made? When a lot of people really like him for John Sheriff's Mike Smith And then you also have the big the big yearling purchase Fort McHenry the three fourths relative. California crump now under new ownership new trainer. Doug O'Neill and Doug is GonNa take a big shot in this spot with Fort McHenry. Both Eric and I are very doubtful on this. But you know admire Dougie for taking a shot here and who knows maybe it will pay off but And also to mention wrecking crew. Fora Peter Miller is also in this. He was stirred Breeders Cup juvenile not in his last night but he was started. Breeders Cup juvenile fourth in the low self utility. Last start out yet. I I definitely agree. I think the bathrooms are the two best race. I can go fantastic. I give more of an edge over thousand work at this distance. They're going a little longer. A kind of flip that good authentic Hatami on a sixteen. He should be fine. I think he's the winner here Obviously thousand words. We talked about him a good amount. I think he's definitely a really good horse so I'm going to focus on a couple of others. I think there's three others in here with a chance. I'm going to throw out four mckenry in seven swag seasonal who Don't even know how he's why he's in this race. I mean I understand why is in this race. It's small small connections trying to get a big success story. It's not gonNA happen so I'm GonNa Start with on repeat. He's a maiden winner in his last start super impressively over at Del. Mar or attend Anita. Excuse me last ball. So it's a bit of a layoff which I don't think he's GonNa put his best foot forward But I think he's GonNa run good in. It'll set him up well for another star probably third or fourth storm in court. I really liked that. Getting back to two turns but once again it's just it's it's very interesting to see that he's he's in this spot in.

"Who already came back and won a stakes next. One broke his maiden last time out as a good candidate for the the withers for his next start further back and Field Express Barrow. Who's been a really consistent down and goal three and a unconquered Lee switched to turf in his next start and won by six lengths of very impressive airforce one to watch out for down the road and he was able to beat this group and like. I said it's it's todd pletcher. People seem to have lost their respects form a little. I certainly am not. I think the sources prime for a huge race dot a really nice post gonna sit the trip Johnny Velazquez in this adult one of my favorite writers of all time. Maybe the greatest of all time when he calls it a career so market analysis. My top pick. I'm going to go chance at for second and Santi for there to rather talkie but I think that's kind of what the the route you have to go here With so much unproven talent here however I will mention two other horses with probably chanted hit the board let me know the aid from the in. Wilkes born has been rather consistent throughout his career Spa City the two for Kern McLaughlin. Who It's if it'd be interesting to see because we haven't touched on this CAIRN McLaughlin if you didn't hear announced today he's retiring from training to become a Louis sizes agent At the end of March. So it'd be interesting to see spot city win this race Get a guaranteed spot in the Kentucky Derby and then I'll have a completely different trainer and based off the owners Dolphin I mean they employ one to two trainers they. They don't employ a lot of trainers in the US and the ones they do they spread out so it'd be very interesting to see if maybe care. Mcglaughlin extended that for another month through SODA. May Have One last crack of all hypothetical of course but definitely interesting plotline Source for to make the Derby another interesting front line plotline that I wanna just quickly mention You know I don't WanNa get into all the recent politics in everything. I could not time for that today. But as eric was like Johnny Velazquez if you did not hear Johnny Velazquez his longtime agent Angel Cordero Up to put this in perspective Eric and I are believe Eric and I are the same age. Angel Cordero had been Johnny Velazquez agent since one thousand nine hundred. That was four years before both Eric and I were born. So that Those who had been a partnership for a long time and You know it was one of those things that it's like That that everyone would think you know. You never think that a partnership like that had lasted for that long would end. But you know that that's the way the business so also worth mentioning that Johnny Velazquez did partways with former agent Angel Cordero and is now going to be moving out with basically horse racing version of Scott. Boris in Ron Anderson. Just wanted to mention that as well moving out. Now we're GonNa talk about some of the racist at California before we get to the big the big three races. I do want to mention the Senate the Santa Isabel and this will feature the return of Donovan who this time will not have to run against a top horse like British idiom or a top horse. Like bast or any of them. It's all her own in this spot. This is very likely going to be where she gets her. Kentucky Oaks points and Does get into that race. No Venetian harbor for her to go against up to this point Entries are not finalized but You know this'll be big for her to get her points and not have to have a Kentucky oaks spot on the line going into Santa Anita oaks against Venetian harbour There's a couple of other good horses industries that are gonNA touch on but Very light very hard to see Donald Loach not winning this race. It's a solid group into looking at the history of race last year the race was cancelled because the sandinistas issues but before that midnight. Visi unique Bella Song Stellar with like. That's that's real on the low Jay. Her name can definitely be right up there with this group in sources behind That should come to face her. Good jettas probably the big one Broker maiden over Some well regarded horses of mainly a Baffert Philly who hurting Muni type belief and was a huge purchase at sales has yet kind of worked out to be a good runner yet but she's been running good races so jeff beatty good deals in. She definitely has talent however Donald J has been running huge racist time and time again. And I think this is going to be her breakthrough and I think she's GonNa easily at herself to that. List of a prestigious winners of this race page on is another one that right Challenger from the Simon Callaghan Barn as well But once again it's IT'S DONALD AS TO LOSE ONLY. She can be herself in the despotic unless.

"Could easily make their way into the Kentucky Oaks Conversation. It's a tough Kentucky. Oaks this year whether or not every single top I mean we've already lost two of the prime contenders for interest in bast. But even that toneless shape who had a huge weekend In winning I think maybe her Fist v race in a row never no matter the number. She's been just lights out. Recently of the runner up from that race spices nice easily could consider herself a Kentucky IOS contender We already talked about Lake Avenue Santa Anita out in California still tons of good horses and I was the fairgrounds finite. Probably your favorite right now. so the. Oaks folks trail is still very strong. So we're these were. This group fits in. It's kind of a bunch of not rejects but horses that are yet to prove themselves on a stakes level alters awards coming off a window in her last start over portrait who was graded stakes placed behind finite and some other really good horses and Sheer Ultra award in a really big race coming from a second last way off the pace to win by just ahead in an allowance race in her last start. She's been pretty in President I he starts of her career and this Rupe as I said not a lot of you know talent on paper she might be the best of the second horse I really like is turtle tracks. She's coming off of her. Last start. I think it was the reset Tampa The the The Sun Coast Sheeran second was coming late but she wants to straits to restrict race or maiden race an allowance race last fall in a lot of people thought she might be a wonder really. Put Her name in the ring for a series oaks contender.

"All right here we go. We're back on racing down today. Episode Number Fifty. We got a lot of stuff to get to today. Three fifty three fifty point preparations on the docket for this week. In one hundred Fifty Kentucky Derby points up for grabs three more horses will be on their way to Churchill. Downs weekend. There's also a bunch of other stakes around the country this weekend most notably the grade. Santa Anita Handicap. So we'll get to all those book. I we gotta get to the action from this past weekend in Saudi Arabia and the conversation is coming up at. I've seen it come up in multiple different areas is about the winner of the Saudi. Maximum Security You know that is probably the most the Kentucky Derby incident and you know. I'M NOT GONNA come on here and you know say that the Saudi Cup has anything to do with the decision that was made at Churchill. Downs or anything like that or argue that the disqualification now because he's one twenty million dollars. Saudi Cup shouldn't happen I I am not gonNA come on here. Make that argument I just off you know really looking at it. It's unfortunate that happened because maximum security is really just such a tough horse. And you know there's not enough good things you can say about maximum security and you know that raise really showed that maximum security is one of the best horses in the world and obviously right now. The leader of the pack in the United States for older horse. Right now and be really cool to see this horse competing for your old year and you know depending on where he goes from here. Obviously you know. They already mentioned that. He's not going to Dubai. But just where MAC security goes from. Here I'm excited to see that. And what he has in store you know. I'm sure Eric will have some of his things. Say about maximum security. But that's something not lost museum. Fortunate -ness of the disqualification at the Kentucky Derby. Because you know this is a really really fantastic horse for sure. I mean he's slowly and steadily starting to shed that tag of being the Horse Sector disqualified from the Kentucky Derby even though it will always remember that way. If you were to continue what you did last weekend easily going to be more remembered as one of the better horses heading into this decade in this early part of the century the obviously he's now ten million dollars in earnings in at this stage career. It's only getting go go higher. It'll be interesting to see where he gets brought back. I met in. Saratoga is kind of the midseason point. Four the connections there But honestly I think he's already cemented. His legacy added great horse. Just you know like cigar did way back when of when he won the inaugural Dubai World Cup. Maximum security is going to be able to say the same thing for the Saudi Cup where he'd be a really good group of Horses. I might add Definitely was not lighten any sense I think every horse for the most part Ranta form in the Saudi Cub ibew. Probably the biggest surprise people contend but definitely not be By a quarter of a lengthy Iran. Huge She's also in so many other horses from the race but maximum security Kind of a rough trip was definitely a target especially for teas on Mutual Gustavo. Louisa has had to get created down the stretch. But you work down in that. Horses has tons and tons of heart. I don't really know I've seen a horse. Who Does Not WanNa let him worse by like maximum security does. It's quite impressive. How this works bears down to every time he races and I just think I I I think we all know. He's in pre twenty twenty if he stays healthy yeah. That was another thing that I didn't quite get that opening. Bid Is the fact that you know. Maximum security did all that won the race while Iran Ortiz was basically writing interference. I made the comment to Eric Baxter. Excuse jokers still out there kind of looked like a NASCAR and now you can say all you want about. How you know. Probably wasn't the best rider. You didn't have good character of Iraqis. I thought it was a good strategy on his part to do what he could to be. Maximum security obviously probably definitely in this country If he would probably would have been disqualified but I thought it was good on his part to do his best to win. Win The race. And try to keep maximum-security away because I don't think I if you run that race normally maximum-security just goes by with the rules over there. They run category One rules which unlike in America the disqualification rules are if you preventing a worse from running their best race. You get disqualified. There is. That's worse when when you run interference or not so if mutual Gustavo Iraqis does dat but the horse wins by Lincoln half. It's not a problem. Give what was within the rules so it was a good ride? Bhai Iran It was definitely a little malicious. I certainly Jason Service not lease with IRA. Teaser was on the first things. He made a comment about after the race. In the in an interview shortly after On national television I might add But at the same time that's I mean the races aren't one you know like a track meet where you can necessarily go between the lane. This horse racing and that kind of stuff can fly to an extent maybe a little over the edge. I think especially when acting security job inside. I really started to hurt an inside but I was happy that I read never intentionally drew contact although he was doing some blocking like you said NASCAR ask He never intended to make contact which I think was probably the safest thing and when he when he knew the horses about to go by he kind of backed off on trying to get through so are running more interference so while maybe was maybe a little militias It definitely was good race riding on his part all right so that. That's it for this stuff with the Saudi Cup Stripping back over Cross sees out before we get to the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks preparations that you want to highlight a Horse Zulu al folk who is turning into his own. You know I will highlight at about this point last year. This is were bricks and more bricks and mortar was not not saying that Zulu Alpha is going to be the next bricks mortar. Or anything like that. But you know he could do similar things to where it's very likely he's going to do similar things to what bricks and mortar didn't very likely that this is probably the top tier force in the United States. This year. You know at this point last year. Bricks and mortar was a great one Winnipeg World Cup turf and and then he had a great to race. I believe it was either at fairgrounds are one of the tracks Louisiana so to this point Zulu Alpha grade one winner Pegasus World Cup turf now. He's agreed to winner The Mac Ramadan down at Gulfstream. This past weekend. I think Zulu Alpha's in for a really strong really really strong two thousand twenty Keep your eye on him. Come for race like the turf classic the Kentucky Derby Undercard. That's where I would him go but not saying Zulu Alpha is an expert in order. But I'm not saying that he isn't either into Rena. Bricks and mortar was able to have consistent success last year is because all the worst is behind him weren't consistent. I mentioned on the show last week. That Group of forces that Zulu Alpa was facing. He actually used to be a part of that group they never were able to consistently put together strong back. That rates it's bricks. Mortar took it to a new level. Easily able to string together back Multiple consecutive good races in a row. And that's what God in his horse of the year title. And if these keep going the weather going is do. The wealth is going to be able to do the same thing last year Even though I was Kinda surprised after neier introduced the Turks Trinity Series that no horse really emerged from that as premier career force and to be chair. I mean we see that with Dirt horses as well on the on the Derby trail. They don't always shape out after the triple crown trail to be good and that kind of creates inconsistencies in the handicapped division like we saw maybe back Towards the end of maybe before the end of two thousand seventeen that you're got stronger as it went on but nevertheless China look into Alpa. Maybe like an expert in order. I wouldn't be surprised because once again the turf division isn't strong and If I'm going to throw one out there vitality is probably the best grass three year old male out there And I know. The connections are keen. Distract him out so he could be wanted content we know. He has loads talent. So at this point Zulu Alpha is primed at least stay home maleter force because so far. There are no challengers within a mile oven. So I'll also want to mention very quickly. Law Wasn't a good weekend for Dale Rome overall at Gulfstream. He does have a really fine horse in Mr Freeze. You know I talked about him. Pegues World Cup. That was a really fine performance by him. A second place now. He wanted to Gulfstream Park Mile. Go not to do by. He'll run on the good often mile I could see this horse is a horse could potentially get a great one win. I don't think he's a top older horse but he's in that second tier of you know very good horses. That could get a grade two. Maybe you know if favorable circumstances happened upset a great blonde but you know Mr. Freezes that kind of horse that you know. That's a great one race that is GONNA be a viable type horse. Probably doesn't win but he's still very fine horse so some good news out of the deal. Romans burned but on a day. That was supposed to be Denis's moment day. I texted Eric after that race. In you know I was a person who I've been on Dennis's moment since really since I saw him when the earthquake especially after Dale Romans on the show and I had mentioned that I liked Denis before I talked to Dale and after Dale. I love this horse. Something's clearly not right with Dennis's moment I mean you know there's you can lose a race. That's one thing and even. Dale said this. You know losing races one thing. But running last in Fountain of Youth Stakes like that. Dennis's moment is obviously better than running last in a stakes race like that so obviously something's not right with him whether he hasn't fully progressed from his two year old year or could be something physical we don't know They're never gonNA check that out and we'll hear from that one day they figure that out but something is obviously not right with Dennis's moment and he should be a lot better than that and we'll see where they go go with him going forward. I'm not overly optimistic. That he will get to the Kentucky Derby. He's still got a chance at one more preparation if they do decide to go that route with him but not overly optimistic. But there's still a chance you don't tug on Dennis's MOMA BEFORE I go to Mr Freeze del Romans. He said the still can't find out what was wrong with him and maybe he needed the time or maybe he hasn't taken that necessary step forward of two to three years old either way. There's a one more race to kind of prove that he's a derby horse that'll be wherever Romans puts him. I hope it's Bluegrass. That'd be the easiest fought for him and we've seen we've seen horses run poorly in the Fountain of Youth and come back and run a really huge race next time out. Addict of former champion is the first one that comes to mind is saying that Garam just other horses that performed poorly first off of a layoff from their two year old campaign. Brody's 'cause lost. The Tampa Bay became back. One the Blue Rask. So the IT'S NOT. How pressing is heavy from the Romans?.

Who's the Champ?

"Bobby? A halt of the New York hot list is our first guest of two thousand twenty here on the gate now. The horse that won the Breeders Cup dirt bile beating Omaha beach is spun to run and he will be facing Omaha beach again in the Pegasus World Cup. The first major race of two thousand thousand twenty but maximum security will not be there and code of honor will not be there. Maximum security is waiting for Saudi Arabia. The world's richest race the Saudi Cup in February. It's very tempting to make this a political discussion. I'll only do it to the extent of saying with what's going on in the Middle East right now. How do you think that is going to impact whether trainers bring their horses over for the Saudi Cup and or the Dubai World Cup in March or maybe they take a look at that Pegasus again and say maybe we ought to just stay here that that's a very hard question to answer? Ah It's hard to understand how people feel I will say this. I am confident in saying that the people especially in Dubai. We're ruler of the country behind that I think they're going to bend over backwards to provide security and take care of the park I I would hope the same thing's going to happen in Saudi Arabia race and then just not become a outer tech or anyone but that is a question question that you just can't answer. I think it's very hard. It's an individual decision to a Lotta funny. I understand when people go play a lot of people who have no dog in the adviser to come up with answers of morally questions. And what they're gonNA do when not to you. Gary West was all set to run his voice Independence when it was nine nine billion dollar I. He was happy to take the fourbillion winter. Share the person. Just go to the Middle East but when you cut the first out of nowhere to three billion winter I'll get one point five billion something like that and you have just wants to you know once in a lifetime could easily win ten million dollars and probably turn around that month and win a twelve million dollar right I. It's hard because this is an expensive sport and as much as these people arrested of of money that goes into this so You understand it as of now. I haven't heard anyone saying they're going to change their mind about going. I'm sure people are a little bit nervous but I mean let's be frank. I think anytime you over. There is probably reason to be nervous. So it's just an individual decision and I wouldn't chastize anyone. Whatever they they decide because it feels like them? That's their call. It's not it. I make my own decision on my life. You make your own decision on your own life and I think that's the way it goes. Oh by the way. I think you're under selling the Saudi Cup. I believe the purses twenty million dollars. Well it's ten million the whip you get ten billion but it's it's one that that that's what I'm saying he gary West is looking at it. I will get sent. Don't get out of the home and billion dollars if I say in that term so you can when you look at it now. You basically have to win the Pakistan that in line with at one point I for share of the first compares to the ten million that he will win. Take home for winning the Saudi Cup where he will be the favorite and a one term mounting great definitely. I Dunno betting Saudi Arabia. But I know American pools. He's GonNa behavior and you running for stabbing tons of money. That's a pretty compelling nonetheless in the Pegasus World Cup you do have. Some horses is with some credentials including higher power. The Pacific Classic winner. We mentioned Omaha Beach. roadster for Bob Baffert is aiming toward the Pegasus. And you will be there. How do you see this first? Major race of the year shaping up that force right now in training maximum very doubt after that case to be made then Omaha Aubenas bunch of wrong especially violent eight might be the second and third bout with McKinsey right there with them so when you get fun to run and Omaha Beach I think he got a pretty darn good race. I mean it's interesting possibilities. Are the horses doing nominated at the box He's done. I'm very well. This is of course. A lot of people east might have remembered with Chad Brown Barrasso. And you know he was good you know. He got coming up. In the minor spot that West to John Adler Verona's ray thing all of a sudden. He's winning all these steaks and eat it. You can't east to Churchill even lost or any blocks. We'll see if he's going to be the ones that they decided to send into the race. It'd be a good one back wizar- people know this story. That fifteen thousand dollars who ran against maximum security and the world's most famous Amos. Sixteen Thousand Dollars Eight lamer and it'll be in there. I think it'll be a big competitive fourth. It doesn't I think have the superstar. One runner arrogate powerpoint chrome Omaha beaches in that category But it's interesting. It's good to get back into talking about racing and Bobby Hall. Nobody better to do it with so. Thank you so much barry. Thank you always chat that with you so when we come back here on the gate. The site of the world's first million dollar horse race is short on dollars and short on time time to secure them. Welcome back to win the gate in July of two two thousand. Nearly twenty years ago Churchill. Downs home of the Kentucky Derby purchased Arlington Park in Chicago for nearly seventy one million dollars. Arlington's owner Dick Duchossois had closed the track in one thousand nine hundred ninety eight and nine hundred ninety nine saying that he could not compete with other gambling businesses. The opened again in May may of two thousand presumably with the knowledge that a sale was coming at the time. Churchill was in something of an arms race against the stronach group. When it came to buying up tracts the idea was to create networks of tracks for simulcasting and cross promotion of races and Events in nineteen ninety nine Churchill bought calder race course in Miami and Hollywood Park in California and then bought fairgrounds in New Orleans in two thousand and four? This was meant to counter the STRANA group which began its buying spree in nineteen ninety eight with Santa Anita then they added Gulfstream Park in Florida. Both major Maryland tracks Laurel and PIMLICO as well as golden gate fields and Portland Meadows and Oregon stronach versus Churchill. Wasn't exactly the Cold War. But the battle lines had been drawn it it seemed that Churchill was the first to blink Churchill dumped Hollywood park like a hot potato in two thousand five just six years after buying it. Churchill said at the time that California has forsaken racing and its needs reports came from fairgrounds in two thousand thirteen that the turf course was too dangerous juris to race and that the track had been poorly maintained ever since the churchill purchase at the same time Churchill was trying any maneuvering possible to get out of its obligation obligation to operate racing at calder. Eventually the STRANA coned Gulfstream Park worked out a lease agreement to run the calder meet in October and November this year. Two Thousand Twenty is the final year of Churchill's obligation to lease the meat after which it may convert the track into a shipping logistics center. Or something like that.

Three Wins in 4 Years Is a Record

"James Good Morning. Good Morning Steve. Thanks for having me on hope your weekend. Well it did. It did and I thought I saved I wrote I write down as many selections. It's always tough for Breeders Cup because then the paper gets all gets a little a little sloppy and sure enough here. I'm looking now and yeah I do have it. Actually there we go there we go home. You were a Vino guy and and bricks and mortar and and then spun to run so yeah your share of winners Too Key around I thought was on higher power. Though I didn't have you know I got you written down for Dino. I took higher power stirred Flavian Pratt. What's up on them? I'll tell you play the Heidi wrote one favorite Donna Duluth below she. The brewers Juke juvenile given up Phillies runner-up but he had a win. had four seconds and fourth earners. I thought that was a really a great performance by him and You know he has the Kentucky Derby win on his resume junkies like have that really just A good showcase for an upcoming star in our rank agreed and and I tweeted on Sunday. I've discussed this a couple of times this week. His record is stunning. And he's got people would say. Oh He's only got three wins. WHOA WHOA three wins? Thirty eight mounts and this is only his fourth year as fourth year riding his sixteen seventeen eighteen nineteen at-bats. Ah But another fourteen in the money finishes and then a handful of fourths and fifths I mean the percentage is frightening. I mean considering considering the level of competition really outstanding and he gives he gives every virtually every horse. If he's got horse to work with he gives them a chance. It's definitely and you know I mean I think Santa Anita and hosted the Breeders Cup eight times previously and and and he was writing a lot of california-based debased horses and one of my takeaways was definitely that this this year's Breeders Cup with completely unlike any out in California before I mean just uh-huh it just. It really started on Friday where the first four winners had all raised it Aqueduct Belmont and by the end of it I'm you know I'm looking at it it it. If you'd looked at the charts that Saturday at at Saratoga you wouldn't be surprised to see our ad or ts in four races Castellano and Rosario win into each and then Jose or ts Manny Frank Ricardo Santana All winner races well and Joe Bravo and that's what happened. They took twelve to fourteen races and and all twelve of those horses that race in New York this year now very strong on that on that front and ah not to say that Just had the conversation with Nick. Lock about the euro's and there were there were solid efforts and solid board hits in addition to Iridescence win but The you know the and there were solid performances from west coast sources to bell. Athena's Bella Fina. At under under certain circumstances dances might have won. The united almost looked like a winner hundred yards from the wire There were there were plenty of of solid performances from every region In some cases. Look at Vino. Vino having been into California. I think counselor a lot. You fold in folding would ask. Did you know getting there early with Matali Actually Navarro to I mean in Navarro got there early with a chance. A Lot A lot of times the a Lotta Times. The juvenile turf sprang can be like locally based sources can do all your top two in that race were both based in California with Peter Miller and you the one hundred and thirty five bucks. That's right that's right. That's right his second his second in the race in three years. I'm just looking at the list to spun to run from Philadelphia. So you get you get a a regional kind of a B.. Track player are sharing sharing holiday for new. New York's thunder run actually ran in a mate. Nice at act backer. And the winner but I mean the parks and mom Sharing base at Far Hills at far hell and Maryland bred. That's a couple of times Toga. Yeah yeah everybody everybody got their Lixin. Actually when you when you kind of go through this And I'll just say I I came away. I mean granted. I thought the four big stars coming into enforces with the serious horsey. Our aspirations Bricks Mourner Corner Sister Charlie and Matola two of the four one I think it really does come down horse a year two bricks and mortar and Matola Louis. But I'm giving the edge bricks mortar. I thought it was fantastic campaign. He had been a mile or previously. Before you know getting hurt and undergoing that surgery and I like the fact that Brad Cox I mean Brown ran him. You know he never ran he. Random and six different courses six different states. You went from Florida to Louisiana to Kentucky Hockey to New York to Illinois and the California To win a mile and a half for the first time in his career so to me. He's a deserving of the year well and and driving home the point about the mile and a half for people that because they always beat all the same types and didn't stretch himself then no he did and and you know the there was even people that were incredulous about him going the mile and a half so you know that that score extra points Without a doubt yeah definitely and you know to me One of the Mike Smith that made the point After a couple Oh. He ran second on a pair of privet favorites midnight zoo in Omaha Beach. And he's made the point that he'd right like those races back because it was hard to 'cause over that track track but to me it was more so that those horses were caned on the rail going into the first turn. Blue Prize was tenth early. You know tolley Holy Arosa could be five or six minutes off the pace. But they're jocks really at. That did a great job keeping them in the clear and I really thought midnight. These to you You know continue just to be in traffic through into the far turn. And when she got out she finished great as a case I mean they the great job on on TV and other highlighting it where I think of a blueprint. It's got the jump on her because of the trip the greed and it and it it also. It should be noted for people that are you know insisting that the track nobody could close well. WHOA that's not true? which is simply me? Just look at the chart for the distaff. What do you mean nobody could close at that? Just you know Omaha. Beach closed closed In in as well came from often and others whitmore made up. I mean it wasn't going to get to the winners and the the exact pair But he closed Idiom really had down below chicken that juvenile fillies and that's when the track was absolutely at its worst deepest pissed most impossible right based on based on the figure and in fact. It's funny because yesterday. Paul Matisse was talking about how difficult Friday was to make figures and then it was echoed by Jerry Brown on His On his experts board board. Somebody brought up. Paul's conversation and Jerry also echoed that the way the track changed from the you know the middle part of the day to by the time even the the juvenile boys ran so typically you would if the juvenile of the males run more than two seconds faster than the phillies. You'll get say their way better than the nose Philly but I do think it was. It was a track getting off faster later. And I. I'm I'm not down on British idiom or Donna Boise at all even though that right they came home. I think they should be still terrific runners. And you know it's it's hard to gauge coming out of the juvenile being real adobe guy Exactly what that means going forward so into court definitely Nice Horse Court Vision You know hasn't isn't had much success at Stud but he's bread You know fire. Classic types with that pedigree of his female family has a lot of stamina influences. It just doesn't have much class. You won't find any stakes winners really in that immediate female family well your final the final takeaways. My final take away so I just you know I you know I was. I thought you know it was a tragic end McGowan crew. I mean it was just a Really hurt to see that happy at the very end After a thirteen of the Breeders Cup races have that happened in the ashtray and and racing. Definitely I think has some issues and concerns going forward. the people in the industry maybe do a better job messaging but I still remain. Optimistic is the horserace fan about the future and I was. I came away like in the Breeders Cup. I thought there was some great performances and Looking for work once again the next year very good well. We're looking forward to the action this weekend give us some thoughts about Churchill had terrific card even today yesterday and Wednesday were good and of course the Commonwealth on Saturday the feature the Grade Three Mile and a sixteenth. The three year olds on the grass. It is an absolute war. Some thoughts about what's been going on while everybody was paying attention to Breeders Cup and and we got to look forward to this weekend. Yeah they had three stakes last week and In the MEA mischief flatmate go for the sale and and look good. She loves Churchill Downs Multiple Grade. One winner there in the Divine Queen got off to bad start. Art Never Fire in the In Saturday stakes chill Lewke and Sally's Kirwin breakers Swin She tried the Indiana Oaks folks earlier. This year didn't run good for Dale Romans. But she had one or last two allowance races by like about fifteen lenz combined and ran a rug. Good Rice debris greet Brian Cox's

Steve Haskin Discuss What Is True Horseracing

"Listen I don't WanNa put a damper on things or anything but you know to me. This was not was not true. Horse racing at least as I know it And I I will say that the grass races were were all good. I have no problem with that but after after that a lot of things that just get ugly for me you know. I don't WanNa see horses and jockeys coming back on on a track labelled fast looking like they just been rolling in the sandbox I realized being zealous in their attempt to make detract safe which is understandable expandable. But in my opinion they did. They did at the expense of the racing I mean who's who says you have to make a track excessively really deep and tiring to make it safe. I mean they're they're faster race tracks. I go back look at the aqueduct over the years and they're all in in highly even even the old old Santa Anita track was always safe. Saratoga I mean these are basically safe racetracks. You know so. So what's going on now. I can understand but sometimes you can overdo something and you know. And as much as as I liked Vino Rosso in the classic and you know one all kinds of bets on them To tell you the truth I can never ever watch that race again for abuse reasons to search too much 'cause actually liked Mongolian groom ally and and actually thought at one point in the race that he looked like he was gonna Finish in the money but you know all the repercussions of that. which most I think most of it is just nonsensical? In fact I just read somewhere that you know the vet came that came out. The trainer came out and said it was perfectly sound. You know and understand these things happen. There's no there's absolutely no blame here at all. Just the fact that it happened. That hurts just like it's hurt from all the other incidents in fatal fatal incidents in the past. And you know I go back I was there for roughing it. I was there for go for one. That was there for prairie by you. I mean there for a lot of witnesses and every time you go through a little bit out of you and you know I I I just sort of get attached the Mongolian. Groom not only from a betting standpoint but I just like the connections and and the and the the horrible irony of it is the fact that you know right after the race. He stated emphatically that. They're not going that they don't want to put up two hundred thousand dollars and and then you figured some offers would come in to to get a piece of it and put up. Put up the the supplementary fee and they said you know now talking to date decided to change their mind put up the money and and and then this happened so I know how absolutely devastated everybody. Everybody was there So but you know that's not even what I'm talking about when I'm talking about About the debris come you know I. I just don't want to see the best distance. Sources in the country stagger home the last half a mile and fifty two seconds. That's not resource time time I you can make the track slower and slower and slower but it was weird because the the formula was the same old data. We're going faster early legitimate. The sprint races were run fast but I mean come home the last year from fifty two. I mean that's ridiculous and you know it wasn't that the horses were bad. It was at the race crack. You know that. They poured truckloads of sand on the day before the Breeders Cup. You know and speaking of the classic Nick and that Racetrack. I certainly don't want to see the V to bed. Closes in the country. Never even pick up their feet and get beat fifteen lengths and seventeen links like they're running through quicksand. And I had agreed with Doug mcgann. He's original plan to skip the Breeders Cup and was totally against it when they change their mind. I knew the odds were stacked against them. Being three year olds shipping West I quoted that statistic that they were over twenty two in the past. I and especially with the track favoring speed at that time and I had no idea that it would get even worse for him when he got there and I don't think I don't think shook did either either. I think he was Kinda surprised how how track was playing how deep it was and how come from behind horses were were just spinning their wheels. We also hallway so you don't WanNa see that you know you just don't want to see any kind of track bias when you've got the championships at stake. I mean it was a lot at stake. Code of honor but you know so. Now he's got to End His Campaign very ingloriously. But that's just the beginning You know you look at Look at the beach I mean I I I don't WanNa see arguably the most exciting and talked about horse in the the entire Breeders Cup. Who's been on just off the pace going six furlongs to a mile in an ace in every one of his starts eight and a half lengths back at the half mile? Call all of the dirt mile and still five lengths back at the poll. You know. He's he's still runs one of the best races of his life despite the track and he can't even get close to you know I'm not taking anything away from spun to run but he can't even get close to that horse. You know who was beaten nine links in the Haskell who I I was at parks when he beat gray magician by heading the smarty Jones he ran well in the Pennsylvania Derby but he's still fit and then suddenly turned into a superstar overnight. Overnight gets a one ten buyer and some small stakes at parks despite never having run a triple digit Byron his life so I mean Karama beach I mean even to get close to that horse and to come from that far out of it and where the heck was cold front you know in twelve career starts. He's I've been on the lead or within a link to the lead in every in every start in the met mile. He's on the leading forty four and one for the half but in this race he's running V v six and a half lengths off the lead. I mean I don't get that. Where was he so you want to run? As soon as he went out there you know and opened up to three lengths. She said nobody's nobody's going to catch the source on this racetrack. And like I said I thought I thought the Omaha Beach Randy terrific race to get second and even staying with the dirt mile. Yeah I don't WanNa see the second and third choices you look improbable and Mr Money. who were both being very highly touted touted By their trainers and many of the experts. And who would training brilliant leaguge swimming out there never picking their feet up then got beat nine of ten ten and three quarter lengths. You know now you get to midnight. Be Sue I don't WanNa see the best filling in the country unable to make up an inch aground. In the last days the mile with a final creates run in under forty seconds. You know what in the world we should be doing running ace at the top of the stretch You you know I mean it was a was it. A bad ride was just bad. Racing Locke was was big track. I mean take your pick but affiliates not supposed to be that far back and and if you watch the race you could see blue price who you know. Give her credit you know. She wants to come from off the pace but he had a made her she had to make a move move back stretch and it had lead ready at the eighth pole you know and then you know finally you look at Friday. I don't WanNA see your race with into the strongest W prospect. Seen in years. Completely fall apart. You have a forty five to one shot at twenty eight to one shot and thirty nine to one shot come from first third and fourth to finish one two three and the three to two shot running second stops to a walk getting beat over twelve lengths. You you know and then you know meanwhile before five shot and erase stumbles at the start and finish dead last so to me. That race was a total bust. In fact to tell you the truth by the way if somebody had told me a week before the Breeders Cup that we were GonNa see the Derby favourite less weekend and it would not be a it would not be any of the three favorites more. Would it be scabbard. Nor anybody else in the juvenile but it would be the winner of the national stakes the next day by far and away the most impressive two year old. Maybe most impressive overseeing the team your weekend and then you go to the other dirt race. On on Friday juvenile fillies you know we have to brilliant phillies coming off. A dominating wins literally staggering home rubber-legged in in an agonizing slow twenty seven three and seven and two for the last sixteenth of a mile. I didn't raise sources. Could run that slow so to to me. You know this is just one. I'M GONNA forget very quickly but this would have forgotten about it by now. If I didn't have to talk about out of here I listen. I'm sure I'm sure a lot of other people feel are being too harsh. But what can I do. It's just the way I feel. You know maybe it's just I've got too many Committee races behind me.

"Time guest to the show this man is responsible for love American racing he was part of the old eighty or one of his favourite beds is the box and not only is he abetting genius he's also one of racing's nice guys it is my absolute privilege to welcome to the show Barry Faulkner on bushing onto one suit box exact barry it's about time you made your debut in the final furlong my friend India and great to have you onboard as well looking forward to your thoughts your expert thoughts for what should be too exciting nights of racing on sky sports racing and you can hear in the background making his little giggling cab can be over the last five years we've been doing this together so we have to have the main man on board Pete Foreign it's Al from sky sports racing welcome back and it's a pleasure to be here that was my first final Furlong podcast ever back in twenty fifteen when I was living over in London then and I think back to that very fondly going from being a regular listener to getting to be on the show on a regular basis it's always a pleasure and I'm happy to be here no you're kind man my friend and it's good to have you aboard as well we couldn't do this without your insight as well and speaking of that let's get a brief snapshot of things are we go in there because Santa Anita is normally gold for the Europeans I think this is the record amount of time that track has has held the Breeders Cup but opean runners have never gone away from Santa Anita empty-handed there have been some tracks where we struggled but entries are down this year the pre entries were down the overall European and particularly UK and Irish representations down the obvious exceptions this is Brian and is this is to do Peter and we discussed this in the final film podcast earlier in the season with some of the difficulties some of the series difficulties that sent any face regarding fatalities because let's not forget it was only a few months ago that the Breeders Cup themselves had a meeting to decide whether or not sent an easy would keep it and at the time the word was it was going to be taken off them have things been sorted out and is there still a little bit of nervousness in the air ahead of the biggest meeting of the entire year to be honest I hadn't thought about the welfare issues as a reason why the euro participation is down I was thinking it was somewhat ran them but it's not it's not a crazy thought but I'd like to think that with all effort that's been made in California on you and with California racing together this surface right and say that if that if that is the underlying reason that that that's a erroneous Yes eroneous logic I'd like to think that we've got a service that we was going to play hopefully in a manner that's fair and most important Paul safe over the two days of the Breeders Cup and for the remainder of this fall meeting at Santa Anita well the fact that you haven't been thinking about it tells me that the been less issues lately they've hopefully then iron things out so that should be good barry what are your thoughts on it we donated with the West Coast the entries this year the same level as a two years ago in Delmarva we've got one more race this year significantly down on the entries interest for the British Company in Kentucky last year I doubt in general I think it's a disadvantage for horse shipping California hosted Slip Shipping East but they do that so relative time there's an east coast and they just as far as the truck goes treated hundreds from work and they've done significant amount and hopefully they will have resolved issues they undoubtedly how dealer in the year the cause of the lack of interest from this year I don't really think civilian position to say okay well hopefully things are all aren't out and we can be really excited about the race meeting I genuinely am the other thing to talk about is pace and draw bias because there's definitely draw bias at Sente- Nita impeach you've got some big about that well it's what we're trying to hit a moving target addressing this issue but I think it's something worth considering part of the safer surface I was talking about has to do with the the rail not being gene the place to be more typically in American racing in twenty twenty and we've seen this at a lot of places and it's not super consistent but I mean like Saratoga for example the inside was really not where you want it to be much of the meat now we don't exactly know what it's going to be like for the Breeders Cup something we have to pay attention to because it is very difficult down on the inside you got some short priced favourite to ordinarily I'd like quite a bit core drawn down there but as with all time you try to play the bias game at my friend Mike Baloney the professional horse player says if you WanNa dance with bias you best do so on your toes and that's very much the case but what we've seen at Santa Anita it's very unusual typically good inside means good things for speed and bad inside means it's easier to come from off the pace but what we've seen at Santa Anita this meet on Sundays is as part of the the surface also there's a lot of kickback and it can be difficult to close so you wanna be up towards the front but you want to be up towards the front and not necessarily down on the inside now whether not this is going to be the go forward to be the case for the Breeders Cup I'm not GonNa make any assumptions about it but I'm going to be looking for it and I'm going to act quickly and upgrade horses on I'm talking about the dirt of course horses on the dirt who are going to get that kind of preferred trick and what about you would you be reacting than in real time as well because I remember Breeders Cup where I think it was the year in Vizor won the Breeders Cup classic he was the exception to the rule but everything drawn on the inside like almost if you were on the dirt install water still to you immediate advantage for whatever reason the way that was playing out so I know that you've been studying for the last week or so barry and particularly since the drawers been announced yesterday and today but will you be reacting in real time to how the draw plays out on the night on Sky I think the key thing looking oh bison shifted very very careful because we know sort of simple Harlem hospital you know you'll get a show class FA across favorites join inside wins by St and some inside draw boss that's not indicate indicators you get along show them means how to take on they didn't hangs around and then finishes a close fourth that tells you that the drill by so you hundred very careful how you look at the data it's being presented you you call you see what you're saying if there is the current vice that let's stay alerts and try and take advantage so that we can get maximum gravy so over the two nights all of it live on Sky I've got a brilliant promo to pray at the halfway stage here but let's get straight into the Breeders Cup juvenile turf sprint I'm almost afraid to say the name for the reaction from Pete Four Hundred L. Kamari dear we've got four wheel drive the good as we are getting a decent price seventy two but the terribly unlucky horse at Royal Ascot four wheel drive is currently a best price of nine to two if you look at the races dot com there's allie making the trip over to represent the Europeans to be fair that's for seven Crisford with old friend Frankie Dettori on board as well so there are the three that had the bedding was the awards what are the representation Ena Brian sending over King Neptune with Ryan Moore who will be writing all of his main hopes for the week Barry and I will talk about the group one I stakes which would be run at Newcastle just before we move on Saturday that's a fascinating races has been reopened but Kamari was your goatee the horse for Roy Alaska he's too from to since he has been he was a long odds on favourite in one of those races short price favourite and the other are you sticking with the my friend she's the real deal Kamar very impressive as you pointed out did everything but win at Royal Ascot on ground that she didn't love and has looked so good in the starts since particularly in the last day showing new dimension coming from last I I had ripped up my ticket practically after they broke from the gate at Keeneland that day figuring out what you can't win from their managed to get the job done anyway and has looked very good in her track were park as well she worked out with down for nowhere the other day and really went to the toying with bound for nowhere in a work and then all he went and did is run a massive time figure in an impressive victory in his race last week I think she sitting on go I think she's square price four wheel drive is another ward runner who is very talented is actually done better on the clock Kamari has I plan on getting Kamari to win yes and I'll play a forecast exact with a four wheel drive over Kamari to back that up in just taste. I'm very curious to hear what you guys think of alley as a potential one to upset the apple cart I just don't know I love him I I don't know how well he's going to be sued by this by this configuration of the very sharp five furlongs around dead but it's Kamari from me

Handicapping the Breeders' Cup

"It is finally here the world championships the Breeders Cup for the thirty six time and for the tenth time at Santa Anita it's time to handicap the world championship hip and for that we bring into our experts one we've had regularly and one for the first time we welcome back Ed Derosa of the brisket handicapping service and for the first time we bring in Molly Joe Rosen we followed her on twitter a lot it's good to finally bring her onto the show so again we said we're not going to handicap all of these races were GonNa pick the seven or so that we think have really good competition and will go with those and we'll start on the Friday card with the juvenile a race that has been diminished a bit with the defection of one of the early favorites Max field for Godolphin so we're really left with three big horses here to talk about Denis's moment the favourite eight rings and Scabbard Dennis's moment has been very consistent through his writer in his debut and then just missed a track record at Ellis Park can you really call a two year old and overwhelming favourite. What do you think here let's start with molly I think it's right open race I could not touch horse at eight to five not as you said not with two year olds you know making third and fourth fifth career starts I mean to me that just is crazy and I love him think he's phenomenally talented could wind up being the second coming of Secretariat obviously he's a freak of nature having won his to really his to start saying oh he's got that through the writer and the debut but you know he's one by twenty one lane I mean you can't knock a horse like that Dale is great with these types of horses he's prepped well he's looked great you know you take nothing away from him but eight to five in a eight Horsfield because not a MAC field scratch I can't touch a horse at eight five I do think it is a really wide open race I'm GonNa look at other horses you know take nothing away from eight rings also a horse who has done nothing wrong also worth who lost a job I do think a horse like scabbard for me is more interesting this is a horse who breaks his maiden by five then steps up and they had some has some learning to do and Eddie neely is great with these types of horses and I think if you're looking for price and you don't WanNa go towards one of the more so obvious sources for me a horse like Scabbard who's on the improve has really done nothing wrong in his career but you know seems to have maybe you have to overcome some some tendencies to find rebel trips of course to me like Scabbard is super intriguing? Ed What do you think well we're we're going to write off the rip because I'm all in on Dennis's moment and he's the only horse I'm using molly Jo Sung as praises appropriately and with the scratch AMAC's field unfortunately is is backers aren't even eight to five now so if that wasn't good enough for you Molly Joe I'm sure you're not gonna be happy with even money or six to five but the this horse You know the maiden win at Alice just blew everyone stores off so what can you say super professional in the Iroquois though defacto second career start I read got a handle for this horse got to test drive them so to speak and we've seen Dale ship out to the who've no at Santa Anita perform well with not this time it was second do horse I had a lot of respect for classic empire so I think he's early the horse to be an in a very competitive Friday car he's my big single day I'm with Molly I think scabbard had some trouble in finishing second today this is moment in the Iraq war and I think it's GonNa come down to those two I'm not discounting Dennis as moment but I think scabbard has to be more seriously considered than five to one lead move to the filly and mare sprint I'm really torn here about cafe when we get to the Saturday card I mean she won the Edgewood and the Miss preakness so maybe I'm not as impressed as other people are by the way she runs ed can she run her race from the rail She can for me either the bigger question and the rail is a question the bigger question is is shipping out west and she is not coming for a bar and that is it's been out there very long Dale with Dennis's moments that we talked about shipped out about a week ago see Asmussen's been there with his crew for seven her week so I am eager to see how horses on Friday to that hadn't chipped in versus the ones that have been there awhile local horses etc if I perceive a bias in that regard that might sway me offer as the favorite I will say on raw talent I absolutely think she is the best filly in this field for test was incredible energy titan or Churchill albeit against lesser was what you would want to see he coming into a race like this offer race like the test so I'm a believer but keeping an open mind and this is one of those cases where I am going to use information as it becomes available throughout the Friday card to see how liberal liberal I wanNA use her on Saturday molly what do you make of come dancing I'm not saying how do they poll she's got two and a Half Lake leaving don the destroyer next toward the inside at third special relativity first half of the year then the second half clearly has talent what do you make of her you know she's obviously you know a a really really lovely horses cool to see Carlos Martin on the big stage I I've known Carlos a real long time and he's just a phenomenal horsemen and She did have you know crazy good first half of the year her her win margins were certainly bigger flashier there was certainly more space there but running second to midnight visa in the VIPs you know other than that she's comeback her ballerina was beautiful her gallant bloom was beautiful I do worry a little bit about whether or not she can run in a straight I'm and that especially at Santa Anita we've seen over the years what was her name the Philly that ran second to beholder in the the distaff I wanNA say executive privilege we've seen horses who may not be able to run in a straight line not get there in time Santa Anita in the past and that concerns me a little bit when you do have other really consistent Phillies in here like FFA ed do you see attention long shot here in this race because I'm not loving come dancing I liked but don't love cafe what about dawn the destroyer will become a from the back and I guess you were saying you gotta see the Friday card to see whether anyone really can close at Santa Anita but what do you think about a long shot here that's actually and afterward oh so is this a matter where if you don't like the two favorites you chuck them and use them all I could see that as a strategy especially if you really where let's move to the turf to the mile not the dirt mile we'll get to the dirt mile let's go to the Turf Mile and here you've got to Phillies the headliners got stormy and Uni but now you've got circus maximus with a real European threat here it's not been the best year for eight and O'Brien really do you trust circus maximus here not in any way shape size or form and not at that price just in case you're wondering if I

"Live horses in live mount and that the other thing is here's alaska's telling me he likes beano rosso so there are all these little subplot they go into the race and i know of long winded on this but this is where the money making opportunity for me this weekend yeah i'm all in i'm all in it the the third be let's have fun of the owner the money to be made that the truth of the matter this week is at santa anita and belmont because the best jockeys have faded santa anita and peter churchouse down this weekend so now all of a sudden we talk about equipment changes if you see a horse it's been written by seven percent jockey and all of a sudden one of the best jockeys gets on that horse that horse going to prove three four lakes because of the guy that's on the back of the horse so now when the best jockeys in the jockey call he's cater the premises the best middle tier jockey is now going against the real you know the lur the apprentice is and and the guys that are journey but all of a sudden he's gonna take a horse and improve the horse several lanes and go against week or jockeys and he'll he'll have the ability to outright those jockeys so we're the does to be made this week are races at santa anita park belmont because the jockeys will give you real opportunities where this this guy will outright these guys and that horses eight to one and there's no reason or should be the one they're not considering.
