Dr Carol Lieberman is a board certified psychiatrist. I'm trying to breathe and best selling author Good morning, doctor. Good morning. So let's talk about election stress disorder and what it actually is. Well, you know the way you were doing the countdown That's exactly how people are feeling as we get closer. Ah, we feel it every day. We feel a little more anxious. What's going to happen on Election Day and in general, What we've been feeling is anxiety, depression, fear, frustration, anger. We also exact just psychological symptoms, but it's also physical symptoms because any stress you know he's like the cove. It's stress and the Racial tension, stress and all the different stresses. We've been going through in 2020, you know, it had takes a toll really serious toll on our physical body. As well and particularly our immune system. So you know those things you know, high blood pressure ulcers. Those kinds of things are also being affected. So I mean, how what is so different about this year from all other years? Everybody always gets all head up about politics. Yes, but this year is really the worst. I mean, the worst that I could remember. And a lot of people are saying that because Because first of all, there are those other stressors that we're dealing with. And then natural disasters like the fires in California and so on, and also because in 2016, I mean that we did have a lot of stress. In 2016, especially. Ah, you know what it was? We didn't know if we're gonna have a real answer by the end of election night and so on. But that has been building for these four years and on people are more polarized than ever. And more scare. You know, it's interesting phenomenon. We're kind of like convincing ourselves. That our guy the one who we voted for or are going to vote for is going to win because the pole you can't really rely on the poles. And so it's very scary to think that what we've been sort of assuming is goingto happen might not in the end. So what can we do about it? There are things we can do about it. We don't have to be helpless number one thing is and this is something people are finding it really hard to refrain from this, but we really have to be careful at this point. Cannot get into discussions there. Certainly arguments with people who believe differently who are voting differently because at this point is someone just to argue with you. You're not going to change their minds, so you just have to step away and not ruin that relationship, then also, we need to have a balanced diet of media meaning. Not news. 24 7, but also entertainment and particularly things that will make you laugh. Andi that goes into self care. We this is what we've been should have been doing and I hope people are doing it this whole time. Covert at least That the basic kinds of things they seem so boring, But it's really the things that will keep us healthy sleep, exercise vitamins, nutritious food on supplements for our immune system. And, of course, things that relieves stress and laughter. Laughter. If we each did an hour, a day of laughter that would go a long way and then hobby either an old hobby that you just stop doing. Or pick up a new hobby to escape from reality and less, but at least a purpose. I was kind of you know where we're so used to being the sitting in our homes that we've kind of given up a lot of ambition and purpose in our lives, and we have to re find that there will be life. After the well Hopefully there will be life after the elections. All right, Dr. Carol Lieberman with us there on the Kogan years live line. Thank you so much. Thank you.
