"Think there is again there is a and I. I go back to the kid. I grew up with John McEnroe. The Guy knew how good he was at an early age. He just knew it he he just walked it. He had a swagger to his strokes into his on court demeanor he owned he just he owned it just from from right from the start. He knew how good he was. I always knew how good I wasn't. I don't think I lived with a lot of self delusion. It probably would have helped if I thought Mary tonight. Maybe maybe wrong. I think I was exactly editor. There's some things you can you can pull off. And then some things it's just it's not gonNA happen but for every John McEnroe other twenty twenty kids believe just as much. It didn't have the goods I think so I think so. I just remember a when I was growing up again. It was a beautiful time to be growing up playing tennis in New York. 'cause the hero of my hero and and John McEnroe's Vitas Carolina's and during the boycott of nineteen seventy-three vitas got into Wimbledon is a depleted field. Most of the guys were you know. Were sitting sitting on the couches vs we knew. Some guy who got into Wimbledon ended up it got to the semi's air and seventy seven. He won the doubles with Sandy Mayer. He had a great Wimbledon career. But I remembered that week that that was happening. And I'm sure John McEnroe's thinking I could win Wimbledon one day and I was just thinking I just want to get to Wimbledon one day. I I just wanted to walk on those long As I said I think you have to. At a certain point you have to do the north and south look up and Dan and say this is what I can do. That was my my dream my mind got me into the draw a couple of times but I knew who I was. Why was he the O'Hara who vetus? Well I mean if she's dispose beat is Carolina's We all love him. He had a hit a huge generous heart. Hit a really cool looking game. Didn't have a big serve. His father taught him how to play Scarlett. A senior was a table tennis champion of Lithuania growing up. And he had any as a good tennis game in Lithuania as well. He never gave you this a big serve but beat has had a great serve Ali because he got so tight to the net because his serve. Wasn't that big sort of Edberg. It got him tied to the net. Transfers vol any got a lot of her serves in so he was dashing he had. He had a very cool look to him. And this is in the seventies where anti heroes were very in. It was very cool to be like vitas or lightness like connors. And he was he was. I had never seen anybody that cool Not Sure I've met that many people as cool since the late greatest girl and he was very nice me because his sister was my best friend growing up so I got to sort of water ski behind him behind John. Beyond all of those people I had this very cool. Look I think at at somebody like leaders and I took advantage caught right. Incidentally you mentioned that word that I haven't heard mentioned since fangled jess thanks growing things guys mean first of all. I love that expression just sums it up in a word and it reminded me that we had an email in January when we were in Australia. Jennifer Gardner wrote to US and said huge fan of the show. And I've been trying to find the episode where Mary Carillo talked about growing your tennis fangs and was asking our advice on where that where that episode was because she was going to be coaching a USDA team and wanted to try to get that into her players. But can you. Can you grow fangs? Can you see? I don't know whether you can? I deny that it's a good question. I don't think that question is better than the answer. That's what we were talking about earlier. Wasn't it that there are players at almost win? And they're the ones that are like tantalizing. Come on you just get every first serving in this tie-break you know what has happened. You know you're just an again and this is I'm going sideways on this. But it's one of the problems. I have with encore coaching. When like to me like when they're when Darren comes out or some great coach comes out in they leave and then some. That was a great coaching timeout. I'm thinking why did he tell it up? It was the open book test. Here what are you? Why didn't if he was so great? Why didn't you tell her that before? She went on the core. Or why didn't player? Listen that was a great coaching timeout. That stuff supposed step. It's supposed to happen. You know you're supposed to you're supposed to get that anyway. But I digress as often happens but you know what I mean like you can. You can tell somebody what to do. Then it's all net you know. Don't do it and and fruit. Don't almost win this match win the match because I was the other thing. Now he's too funky was saying he said he would never want to coach player. Who would ask came? What do I need to do you know he? He wasn't looking for that as a question he he wanted to. He wanted them to have the ideas and have it themselves and then he was the best. Examples will certainly the most heartening examples of uncle. Coaching may are always where the first thing that comes out the coaches mouth. Once they arrive on court and Scott awkwardly is so what do you think? How do you feel it? Darren does allow. Yeah yeah so I would say that the ask you know. That's that's my point on court. Coaching for Megan solihull. Simon could've been a contender anyway. You'll rivalry is currently stalled at a draw. Yeah Yeah Yeah I mean let's forget about federal and Serena who who's this sprite favor saw the whole Simon where he's ten years older than me. It sounds like a waiting game and it sounds like you're just one coaching timeout away. It's right dominance on the men's tour so benefit right we've got Elena grover here on twitter. Who says I'd like to know Mary's thoughts on all the young players she seen over the years in relation to burn out. And she's talking about people like Andrew. Jaeger Tracy Austin Jennifer Capriati. Artie and wants to know. If you how you see cocoa goths career unfolding in light of some of those examples that you may have seen in the past well. I would quickly say it's A. It's a good question. Could they say Tracy didn't burn out? Tracy Austin injuries forced her out of the. Us Open at sixteen eighteen. Choose a great claycourt player. Tracy would love to have had a long career so she didn't burn out. She had to walk away. And by the way. I saw Denise Capri Jennifer's mom at the funeral for genie ever Christie's younger sister who is my age. We were juniors together and I asked how Jennifer was doing. 'cause her brother who is a very nice. Guy Steven he's married and he's got a kid and denise They both live in Florida. He sees him all with on. Denise says Jennifer is in a terrible way I mean all these years later after the surgery. She's had the risk problems the the drug problems You know the the arrest problems. She's in deep depression and she misses her dad who died just a couple years ago. I mean this is a. that's that's a rough one. I think there are different. Different players burnout for different reasons. Jennifer I know that there are players like Chris. Evert who had end Monica zealous both tried very hard to to speak with Jennifer to get her back in the loop back in back in good head space and it just did not take. They tried hard. And I also remember that win. Jennifer got Nominated win when she got in. She was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of fame. She and she deserved to be there. In my opinion on a couple of majors three of them she didn't say yes right away because she wasn't sure she was going to be up. Two months away should found that I think in January the ceremony was going to be after after Wimbledon. I mean so. There are some people like that. Uh that's a tragedy any way you look at it. That kid was terrific and she came around just as several retired. She was going to be the next great. Non Coach by Christie's father from Florida just like Christie being ground game just like Christie bigger ground game than Chris's but she turned out not to be crude severed at all So there are different. It's hard to watch films burnt out An and had troubles. But what you come to know. And I don't think this will happen with Coco Goff to answer the question. A lot of times. The only mature port of Fiancee's game is tennis and because girls can compete with women physically in a way that voice cannot compete with men. We see them at a much younger age. We see what they can do But someone like cocoa. She seems to have a very good squad around or a really good ballclub. Her parents seem to get it and the kids seems bright. The kid.

"Well I'm older than you mayor Ravi Bhalla is the mayor of Hoboken New Jersey and they have taken draconian measures there they have Hey we've been talking all morning long about what we feel then we may be wrong down the road but at least at this point feels like a huge over reaction by local cities and towns and yet and then the federal government I mean I got no choice at this point because they'll follow suit if one guy doesn't Jersey city does it the Hoboken does it but they are destroying people's lives the careers and and all this over what looks like a a virus that's going to kill people who are I hate to say it but have generally anyway I mean let's be honest anyway here is the the mayor of Hoboken mayor below good morning mayor welcome to the show background mayor Bhalla good morning how are you okay were very good and some may have bought a lot of the well you heard what I said they're just now with it it doesn't seem like based on the statistics on the numbers and the age on the condition of people that are dying from this all over the world including United States it doesn't seem like ruining people's lives who are able bodied adults but doesn't seem like that makes any sense or the economy right well but that's part of the economy that's why everyone in these people's lives so doesn't seem to make sense to us can you can explain it to was mayor we're actually reports when they're a bit tone deaf to the rest of the world we that you have getting flooded with emails from people from Italy who weapon of Arkan who say we're not doing enough there if their hospitals are overloaded Spain France since then so what we're trying to do is save lives and we have around the release of the federal levels state and local to help people save jobs often the exact opposite reaction people are grateful in the streets they're very thankful to me so no one is turn destroyed one blind this is a public health crisis and now we're doing the best we can to protect the public's was acquired by the way out I would also ask that in Hoboken the demographic fifty most impacted by this virus in terms of positive tests are millennials these people in their ages twenties and thirties and then I'm gonna I thought five they're not gonna die well let me ask you this question listen the median age by the way of deaths in it Italy is eighty the median ages eighty and they did not implement a travel ban until just yesterday yesterday was the travel we implemented a travel ban at the end of January which really really reduce the spread of this coronavirus in this country so steps were taken early is a big difference between Italy and here well my question to you is this do you know how many people in Hoboken have died from the flu this year do you know that the answer to that question I get very often how many people were murdered in Hoboken this year we've had none got a great police force are you sure about that no nobody was murdered what about this guy coming out now that we are not a murder involved in at least five years and I think there are wonderful the food department how about opioid overdoses unfortunately people from falling victim to overdoses but no coronavirus death by her her win and possibly over the phone opioid Bernie's point and you're a smart guy mayor and and you know we have nothing against it we like it is decent guy but Bernie's point the the amount of people that died driving their car and the opioid deaths and all these things or you know it's not no vehicle motor vehicle deaths the name main okay listening listening we've had nine thousand flus and viruses twenty thousand people this you're gonna die from influenza twenty thousand what anywhere near that number this country from corona virus so what we don't search so we're acting on the best science indicated that a lot let me give an example ET the director of the Harvard global institute for health Dr John he went on CNN and said Hoboken is the model for the country in terms of what the rest of the country should be doing so if you are listening to burning over doing listen to medical experts we are we are putting politics aside we're putting money aside putting people over profits if you've got a problem with that then I'm sorry but you know booking people are saying your act you're acting here your attitude exercisable great leadership right love to talk to the restaurant owners in the bar owners in Hoboken I love to talk and I guarantee that they're not gonna congratulating you want on the on on just following suit with the rest of the country that's all you're doing you're absolutely wrong we have we are keeping an eye open for takeout and delivery do you cover mobile can talk to a bar and restaurant owners they understand they get it they're not they're not ignorant they're they're they're not ignorant they understand what's happening in the cooperative luckily Hoboken which happens to be ranked the most educated community in the car in in the in the state of Jersey understands what we need to do in the sense of crisis and workshops and we've been through this before we've been through hurricanes sandy we've been through major catastrophic events we just we help each other we offer dampers and we get through it Hey listen you sound like you have the Sniffles yourself all about to look at your your the shelter at home edict it says for a week what happens after that it's not a guarantee if you're absolutely sure you still you still remain ignorant name correct it's not a shelter at home it's it's it's not isolate eating this big difference but anyway A. M. in one week at which point we will re evaluate okay so every week we're going to re evaluate the situation look at you know you mentioned hurricane sandy may where it's just been a bigger and you don't know how many opioid deaths you had we now we do ask that you go you're ignorant you regret again there you go during the call you're talking about hurricane sandy Mayer and all these other disasters that would truly disasters and you didn't take these types of measures you didn't shut down all these things and and we actually get your I was here during hurricane sandy we are helping we have a curfew and and instance only issue those yeah because you can only see the cuckoo's eight o'clock at night hold on a second you're wrong again what time the car if you don't tell me I'm wrong just give me the answers what comes the curfew it's eight PM eight PM okay so what is the difference between six PM and ten PM how many lives are going to be saved for those two hours I'm just curious so Sir what what we're trying to do is give people the ability to do what they do what they need to do in terms of a special items gross go go to the grocery store get their medications go to the pharmacy any any essential items go to the bank anything that you have to do we wanna make sure that people have adequate time to do that that's not just me that feeds our signatures second problem that you're talking governor but that's the that that's after the ginger's a list question mayor Bhalla from Hoboken well we've had the five dead the reported in New Jersey from the corona virus do you know how many people in the state have died from the flu no I I wouldn't here to talk about in here you go ignorant again all right well let's look it up here at work I don't know how many how many people do you care do you care what do you care yeah what did you want to isolate everybody because of the flow instead of it instead of just the coronavirus because we're acting on the best data science it was not right if it sounds like it if if it sounds like we're attacking you you just happened to be the guy on the phone right now we are frustrated with all of you people don't just follow suit make up your own mind you know you know the if you're following this like we are and we talk about this every day for hours and hours there was nothing about this virus but the man's this type of reaction nothing we just want you guys you just following suit with the rest of the politicians you have doing anything smart now we are we are acting on the recommendations of the of people who are experts in the medical records with the experts are telling us I have no idea what's going to happen that the fearful even the biggest doctors at Mount Sinai and Sloan Kettering they have no idea what's going to happen if people those are the experts thank you for joining us today good luck already on the keto diet want to decrease the amount of.
