"He's bringing in a fifth infielder taken his out for now that infielder also to play the outfield. Because you sell them in. And then botched pete alonzo's fly ball. Probably should have caught. It ends up being double but at least he's trying to do different things and i know people have had many issues with louis. Ross like they didn't like the fact that you had albert more hidden la- last night whereas a gourmet like you know. Read pitching in that spot. You got set lugos not available but there are different things going on and you see what mike shot was doing and maybe they don't like him in saint louis either. I don't know. But i felt like he was kind of in front of different things last night. At least trying to and one thing. You're mr read the pitcher. can we not go to. Oh on every hitter. You're not good as it is. You're killing yourself by fallen behind every bus. Louise is gone. You don't have to worry about that Sandy alderson unfortunately though is coming back part of a hiring process of another person. And if that person isn't theo epstein then i'm sure that they'll be arrested at some point or go down in scandal because that's who everybody that sandy alderson hires it ends up either. It's a tricky dicky picky. Mickey or jared porter or zach scott or whoever like they'll hire some gm from some other organization. We'll find out that he's running a dog fighting ring like in his spare time..

"Knowledge right prior to that he said did pita lonzo. Hit one hundred home runs in his career or just this season. I forgot that right before that. I heard he caught himself. Yeah he realize sound. That was a joke. But i could not come up with tim carver for whatever reason which i could tell because he looked like stunned that we were stunned. Like what did i say. Wrong mccarthy l. exactly So that happened because we were talking about that because you had a lonzo hit. Two home runs mets. Beat the marlins. Nine four near was alonzo. One hundred one hundred and one home runs doing it quite quickly be able to get to those numbers as quickly as i did some. It's it's truly a blessing but also there's a lot of hard work that's that's been in basically throughout my entire life and part of that and the thankfulness. He has to everyone around you to everybody in my life. That's that's positive impact on me. I'm really appreciative. In debts dawson. So hopefully the two two three four five six hundred. It's been weird season but he has really come alive. He's probably been there most consistent player as he has done the job now. Thirty two home runs for a lonzo. On the season the mets seventy and sixty nine. They will play again tonight. You got richhill taking on cindy al contra the metro main four behind atlanta and the are three and a half out in the wild card race and then of course the jacob degrom story sandy alderson telling the media he suffered a low grade sprain slash strain of the uc l. He was asked for more. Details sometimes.

"Perhaps the come to their style of play and also there's like the who's jersey. Do i buy delay. I mean if you're buying a jersey now by wonder front coasters probably last you for a while at least although you never know exactly how long with the race and so that is the bumper. I guess when it comes down to it is that it's nice to have some superstar especially some that you can count on actually being there over a long period of time so when everyone is just like were three wins or three and a half winds. Well you're going to win a lot of games but also like who is the player who you're going to stop everything to watch and it'll be franco. Obviously because he is more than a three three and a half when player. He's only that because he is very young rookie and because he's only been a part of the season so maybe for the next several seasons the raise won't be in this boat anymore. They will have superstar waterfront go. Who's putting up five or six or who knows what win seasons so maybe that won't continue to be the case but at least for now. This is extremely emblematic of the way the race tend to build their teams in ten to win with them. And you just want to. What i mean by saying you know you. Can you can breathe easier. You can be cozier. You just have a greater margin for error when every potential means roster. Construction is at hand for you and is accessible for you. Because they do such an excellent job of scouting and they do a great job of player development and their analytics group is so good and those things all have to remain true for them to be this competitive whereas if you have a bit more budget you have another means of acquiring talent if something goes wrong in those other areas and so you know that just speed nice. I imagined to have that escape. Valve and release released fell for scape valve. Turn a thing. What's the steam off. You know what i'm trying to say anyway. I think that as our first episode back from vacation. I was remarkably coherent. So i'm pretty pleased that i only struggled here at the end. Alright well while we were speaking. Sandy alderson said that jacob degrom elbow injury was a sprain or a partial tear of the uc l. In his right elbow however he emphasized the grandma's fine now the ligament is perfectly intact at this point he said whatever condition existed before. It's resolved itself so nothing to worry about their. I'm sure we will never hear about chip grams. Ucla just totally fine. Just the weirdest ass team. Such a weird s. team they are my goodness. It really is. I hope he's okay all right. That will do it for today. Thanks as always for listening for anyone who is wondering might destroy. Ski was back in the giants lineup. On tuesday heat went two four with a walk and a two run homer as the giants beat the rockies so it sounds like the bubble guts behind him. If you'll allow me to plug a piece. I published on tuesday. I took a little look or really quite a long look at the famous one. Soto shuffle partly. It was just a reason to celebrate the season. one soto is having. He's reached an even higher level of plate discipline and patience and walk rate and just overall productivity of late. he's been great. But i've always been fascinated by his routine between pitches why he makes the motions. He does which pitches cause him to shuffle. what counts what pitch types what locations et cetera et cetera. So i watched every pitch that he has taken the season. And i broke it down and i learned a lot so i will link to that on the show page. The Mets Quest To Rebuild, And Rebrand, Themselves
"So tim. It's certainly been a roller coaster of an off season for the new york mets. How would you characterize the state of this. Mets organization as we head into the twenty twenty one season. I feel like the mets are still in kind of a period of transition as an organization. Steve cohen took over at the start of november and he brings in sandy alderson. The team's former general manager as his team president guy who's really well respected around the game of baseball and the thought was they wanted to instill a new culture for the mets to build this new mets team. That was totally different from what they had previously under wilpon ownership and for two and a half months they nailed it. We're going to build a process that produces great teams year in and year out. You bill champions you. Don't buy them. They nailed the opening. Press conference and i plan to make the investments. We need to succeed. It started signing guys. Trevor may and james mccann. They make a huge landmark trade for francisco endure and carlos carrasco the first week of january and everything was rolling in the right direction for them until mid-january and the story about jared porter and his inappropriate text messages and texts photos with a female reporter while he was a member of the chicago cubs front office in two thousand sixteen exposed that maybe the mets could have done a better job in the vetting process. That was clearly for a lot of baseball reporters. Based on the inference took off of twitter talked and he will find out his character. That's on you. Skepticism is really exacerbated. A couple of weeks later when we learned about micky calloway's misconduct as mets manager. In two thousand eighteen. Twenty nine thousand. Nine callaway sent unsolicited messages and photos to women among other inappropriate and harassing behavior. The former mets manager aggressively pursued the women through messages and in person the team released a statement saying was hired by sandy alderson. As the general manager. Calloway had been hired by. Sandy alderson two years before so i think all of the good vibrations from the first couple months of the offseason were undercut by what happened in the last month of the offseason for mid january to the start of spring training in february

And for her to keep it secret as long as she did. And look I don't know if it's right, wrong or indifferent. I don't know. I you know, my 14 year old daughter, Rohan asked me that very question. Because to your point Friday this this story is everywhere, right? And Roland asked me. Dad, What would you want me to do? Hey, everyone. It's not an easy answer. Oh, no, but I immediately immediately went. You turn him in? Yeah, but you're looking out for the male point of view, and exactly And then, she said I don't get a job. Sandy Alderson, who is team president, you know didn't have Ah, prior working relationship with Jared Porter, there were people in baseball who were surprised that he hired someone that he didn't know. Firsthand, Um, Andre, you know, from From his perspective, he had asked the question. Look in this person moving forward Be someone who can lead an organization. Obviously not. It was hugely important on Dean fact, I was a little bit surprised that he didn't happen last night. You know, once, Jared Porter acknowledges, I'm assuming in conversation Sandy Alderson that yes, he had sent these than I don't. I don't think there's a decision to be made cake. Now, by the way, Sandy Alderson and the Mets, according to him, They did perform a thorough background check and didn't find anything. Hey, Sandy, you might need new background checkers for the New York Mets. But MLB didn't know Freddie either way. Everybody needs new background checkers. If all these people this is going on, and this guy got two different jobs after, why would the Cubs he's with the Diamondbacks? We got to the mess. By the way, it is the thing also, Freddy on Gwen thing stood out to me. I had not heard that sound bite from Buster Olney. You know, saying the Alderson you know, he's an acquaintance. I haven't. Report: New York Mets GM admits explicit texts to female reporter
"Report tonight and they have a lot of it verified by Jared Porter himself. Jared Porter is the Mets general manager who was hired by Sandy Alderson when he came in to run baseball operations following Steve Cohen bought the team. Well, According to this ESPN report, Jared Porter sent explicit unsolicited text and images to a female reporter in 2016 when he was with the Cubs that culminated with a picture of an erect Naked male member this, according to a copy of the text history that was obtained by ESPN. Here's the details, and then I'll tell you why. I can't believe he hasn't been let go. Already. The woman was a foreign correspondent who moved to the United States to cover Major League baseball. They had a chance meeting in an elevator. And she thought Jared Porter yellow. Jared Porter is working for the Cubs, and she was making a connection in networking. So they exchange information. Uh, that's the only time they actually spoke, was in that elevator when they met. So then Jared Porter and this woman start texting with each other and he text her. Hey, we should get together. We should have a drink, and he's texting her a lot, right. He's texting her a lot. And she's responding once every you know if you text Hey, let's get it. Let's have a drink. Let's do this. Let's do that on. They didn't meet for a drink. One night after said she could meet with him Jared Porter, sending unsolicited selfie of himself just a selfie of himself. It's me in this picture is in the ESPN article, and he wrote back like And she didn't respond. Uh Then he texted the next day saying, Why aren't we hanging out? You're so pretty. Do you have a boyfriend? It could be me on this is going on now for a few days. After she sent a selfie Now she sends a selfie back to him. And Porter responded. You're gorgeous. You want more of me? She said yes. Explaining the ESPN. I thought it would be awkward to say no, I didn't think of where it would progress. Then Porter sent three pick. Yeah, this is where l k doors opened an escalating quickly horses out of the barn. Porter then sent three pictures, including the first of several that would show a man lying on a bed with a bulge in his pants. The woman was initially confused. Quarter wrote like she laughed again and texted. Yes, though she told ESPN Shin and realized the intention of the photo taken. You're not married, she asked. So okay, so here's little bit of him, sending a lot of text and it seems a little weird Stalker ish and some stuff you wouldn't send. But she is sending back to him, and she's sending things like yes, and liking pictures that he sent So then she realizes that things were getting to a sexual nature and she doesn't respond. Quarter than saying. This is this is the big deal. Porter then sent 62 unanswered texts. 62, including seven photos. That included the final nude photo of a naked male member. Now. When Jared Porter was asked about this, he admitted sending the text and then when he was asked, Are these pictures of you? He said, No. Those air stock images so apparently the Cassis I went on Twitter and found a stock image of I went looking for male members everywhere. It's all I got to use. This one wanted representative, I guess. Yeah, I gotta get going. Does that have that? Have a birthmark? Does that of this was And so that's what he said. He said Then, when ESPN told them we're running a story on this, Do you want to comment? Jared Porter stopped and didn't call them back. The Mets released a statement tonight saying they have spoken with Jared Porter, and they will have Maura after they do their own investigation with this now, obviously, this is just happening, and you can make an argument in the in the in the first part of it that Well, what was he overboard? She have sent those texts? No, he shouldn't have. But she did send back responses that were in the positive of Yes. So he thinks, okay, I'm cool, sending these images to you, and then when she cuts it off, that's where things get back because then 62 texts. That go unanswered. And then you're still still sending naked pictures of of male members. Uh, yeah. You know Jared Porter, I think you've had your last day Has Mets GM. I mean, I know what happened when you were with the Cubs. I understand that. But this is a horrible optic that the Mets don't need the entire time. He's GM Who's gonna take him seriously, who forget about whatever charge you might face for stalking or Harassment. Whatever it is, Uh, really? You're gonna keep this guy around. I just don't see it. I mean, I just don't know. Is it gonna happen in 12 hours is going to happen in 10 minutes, but the Mets can't go forward him is the G M. Because at the very least, this is a really bad optic. They don't need that. Just going to embarrass the entire organization and they need to say you know what? Jared, I'm sorry. But, boy, this is too much for us and good luck and you're done and we're gonna have a new GM. And we're gonna call Jason Smith that Fox Sports radio because he's got a finger on the pulse. The Mets, and he knows we got to go get George Springer aren't I added that

"Rick tittle eight two hundred chicken wings at yo mama's house last night now back to fat boy boy. Thank you for that and Welcome back to the show. One eight hundred eight seven eight play. Hey listen every once in awhile you can have a slow sports day. And i always say there aren't any slow sports days. There's only slow sports hosts. But i mean it's true. There's sometimes you're a you I always think like on a friday. You can spend the whole show just talking about upcoming. nfl games. But that's what she wanted to do. And then on monday. I usually spend at least a third of the show talking about the nfl games. You could spend the whole show doing that but then some days there's not tons but in america we have so many sports always something to talk about. But i bring that up because Yesterday sportscenter twitter sportscenter. Of course that's espn has thirty seven. Point two million fans weeded out. Who has the worse fan base in sports. It's just it's a firestorm out of complete thin air right because all you're gonna do. I mean if you just want to drive quitter traffic as as such thing. It'll work you know it'd be like i don't know i just thought it was funny to pour gasoline on a fire that didn't even exist just to get going one. Eight hundred eight seven eight play coming up in. We don't have a guess until eleven forty so there's plenty of time if you'd like to chime in one eight hundred eight seven eight five to nine wanted to alcohol baseball in the next hour. I'm going to get into the way of the hall of fame is kind of change things around something keep in mind but robbie no don't you know Got himself into another spot of bother. And if you think about all things happening off the field this winter concerning major league. Baseball as i said i'll get into the whole hall of fame thing in the next hour for the the ballot because it was released earlier this week for twenty twenty one but robinson cano has another he. Ed suspension and he has been suspended for the the upcoming season. It was the drug stanozolol and this is always think i always said. That's like a soviet toast. Get your vodka. Aw because it's the second positive test. He has been suspended. The entire twenty twenty one season. I'll about that back. In two thousand eighteen. He was suspended. Eighty games and sandy alderson. Who team president of the matt said. Well we were extremely disappointed to be informed about robinson suspension for violating major league baseball's joint drug prevention and treatment program. The violation is very unfortunate for him. You organization our fans and the sport mets fully support. 'em all these efforts or eliminating performance enhancing substance from the game. Now you could make a statement as i welded. Sandy alderson presided over a team. That kind of invented it. But i mean cano is really giving up some cash and he's rich but he's thirty eight years old. And how much longer can you keep paying his salary. This year is twenty four million dollars. The mariners by the way are responsible for three point. Seven five of the salary with the mets on the hook for the rest. Now here's the thing about robbie casinos contract. He is twenty four million dollars next year. I don't mean sorry next year. He's out he's oh twenty four million dollars in two thousand twenty two and so twenty four million dollars in twenty twenty three. So he's a guy who they say you can go to spring training with the mets in twenty twenty two out. Here's the thing about a guy that signed to play through. He's forty years old. He was great this year. One is not been great. You know for a guy who looks like he moves in slow motion every ground ball ever seen hit the him like cox's his arm back sideways. Like throwing it over to. I now and it's just like oh. There's there's no sense of urgency to them but all he does rake and play great defense. It's weird it's very weird but this year. He hit three sixteen with ten homers in that short season. He's a career three to hit her. He has twenty six hundred. Twenty four hits. He has three hundred and thirty. Four home runs now. Those numbers if you are a d. h. Are good if you're a second baseman. Their incredible that can base is not a position of power. Every once in a while you get a ryan sambergen. Jeff kent at second base is not a huge sluggers position. It's usually a guy who's you know five nine and has a little teeny glove and is a slick fielder a little wizard up there and then punch and judy. At the plate and sits six home runs a year bring up robbie because there's no way he's getting into cooperstown now you just. You just can't see him getting in with to pd suspensions and before that you would say look he was on. He was a yankee was his best years. And now he's a met through new york teams. That's a guaranteed again now. But she could say in a way. This isn't the way the mets wanted it to happen. It's not but it does clear up a little bit of logjam because jeff mcneil's natural position at second base. Jd davis will play third base full-time and that allows them to put michael conforto and brandon nimmo in the outfield corners. But here's the thing the mariners now don't have to pay or connote a play for a different team. They get to save their three point. Seven five million does not count against the team. And the mets have twenty point two five million dollars burning a hole in their pocket and that new owner steve collins from everything. I've seen people saying this is the ultimate owner. This is the guy you want to have. Well that's him coming in because he says he just wants to win. He's going to spend spend spend spend well. He's got an extra. I mean that's more than a qualifying offer right there. And i know they tried.

"Now. This is America's sports talk show sports byline USA. Here's Ron Bar anybody. That's been listening to sports by Myself. For any period of time. No I'm an avid reader. Particularly of good sports books and I come in a combination with this interview with somebody that I respected and I knew for a long period of time. He was with the San Francisco Chronicle and he was a media writer and he has gone on to great things. He's a well respected writer and author. I'm talking about Steve Catman. And he was with the San Francisco Chronicle also as the as beat writer and his other sports books include. One day at Fenway juiced by Jose. Canseco and his latest book is called Baseball Maverick. Al Sandy Alderson revolutionized baseball and revive the mets Stephen Researching this book. And I'm just wondering from the years that you've known Sandy Alderson when you were the beat writer. What is the most interesting thing you found about him? I think for me the most interesting thing of all was picturing a young Sandy Alderson at Dartmouth. You know and his father. John Alderson was a larger than life figure. Kind of swashbuckling. You know Always doing his own thing was pilot for the US military in three different wars starting in World War Two then in Korea and then in Vietnam he flew night bombing missions over north Vietnam and I suppose allows and in that period Alderson Sandy Alderson would as as a dependent he could hop on transport planes and get over to the Philippines to see his dad when he rotated over there and he thought you know what if I could do that. Why don't I go to Vietnam Vietnam? War At that time was front and center in the culture is what everybody was talking about and he wanted to go where the accident was so he basically pretended to be a student journalist. He went all the way over. There showed up at a press office in Saigon and handed over a letter that Someone had written to him obviously as a as a favor because he wasn't a journalist and tried to get a press pass and the guy there basically told him you know son. I know you're just playing with me here. So most people in that situation would have thought would have thought. Oh Hey I gave it a shot you know I tried. All ten came back a year later with two letters of recommendation from media outlets he'd studied Vietnam in the meantime in an independent study course he designed for himself at Dartmouth and got accredited. So that you know the Morley safer of the world. The top broadcast journalist of the day would show up at the press center and denying or Saigon. And there'd be a little list sign up sheet where you go out on a helicopter transport plane or whatever and go into some of the hottest battles of the war as an accredited journalist. Well right next to them with anti Alderson doing the same thing and that that's just fascinates me to think about that. How much did his military background? Meaning his dad and just his exposure to the military because he was in the military himself as an officer. How much did that form him to what he became ultimately in his life. Far More than any of US could ever understand. I myself never served in the military. My Dad was in world war. Two in the Navy. He was on an aircraft carrier. Alderson went from that experience to then he was. Rotc at Dartmouth and he made the choice to become a marine. And you know it's interesting because anyone knows them as a fully formed adult would think this is a guy who whatever he sets out to do. He does and he does his homework and he's very thorough but as a college student you know what he wasn't that into it he early on at Dartmouth. He didn't get very good grades. He wasn't very impressive student and he didn't really have a lot of direction he says it was actually at that moment when he chose he had as an ROTC he could've got navy or Marines and he decided to become marines and he felt ever since he made that choice. It gave them a new sense of purpose or of higher standards. He started doing a lot better as student. He was He had you know. Call up some people and yell and demand that he sent to Vietnam because he wanted to get over there and then he served as a as an officer in Vietnam as part of the last group of Marines there but even more formative experience for him was after that he was sent to Washington DC. It's called the marine barracks. It's the very old sort of You Know Center for for the Marines. There with accommodates You know houses and Alderson was there for a couple of years. He was in charge of the silent. Drill team Have you ever seen the silent bill team? I sure have because I was born in Washington. Dc and worked at the Washington Post for a period of time. So I'm very familiar. They do it on Friday afternoons. And it is something to see absolutely and that you know so. He did that when Lyndon Johnson died and his body lay in state at the Capitol Rotunda. Thousands of people stream by there was the honor. Guard one marine at each corner of the coffin and one of those marines and the commander of the Unit Was Sandy. Alderson standing there in his dress whites at attention. And this is why at one point he was actually the poster boy for the Marine Corps. And you know he and I went back to just When the book was published so a month ago we were back there in Washington at the Marine barracks. Unfortunately the the silent drill team. They do that every Friday later on and we were there a little bit too early in the year. But I'm so I wasn't able to watch that with him. Which would have been great but we also went to quantico or Alderson talk to a lot of young Marines there at the military college and all that day and conversation after conversation. He was talking about once a marine always a marine and about what that meant to him and you know people think of Marines. You know maybe movies we've seen where you have the sargent or whatever barking at the at the the young recruit and it's all about you know following orders and that kind of thing that's not how the marines thinking themselves they think of it is if you're in the Marine Corps then you deserve respect and they think about horizontal leadership structures and Horizontal Accountability. Roy Eisenhower of course was also a former marine and when they led the as in the nineteen eighties they set about instituting a corporate culture. If you will where everyone should speak up if everyone had an anyone had an idea you know shouted out Roy. Himself believes you know if you aren't challenging your boss if you aren't suggesting dumb ideas sometimes then you're not suggesting enough ideas and for for all the Santa and I think for Eisenhart as well. That has a lot to do with the Marine Corps and I think it has a lot to do also with the way Alderson has been with the New York mets where it's not just about him. Obviously he's got a lot of good people working for him there and You know they put together a team in the front office. There that I think is very capable you know when I knowing both these gentlemen very very well when I think about them both but particularly sandy since they were both in the Marine Corps. There's a couple of things that I think First of all they both had a deep respect for the command structure and they both were very pragmatic and I saw that in the way they ran the organization because neither one of those men had any experience in baseball. Exactly yeah they. They had to know what they didn't know. And so for example Roy you know he loves to sit and Billy Martin's office and just talk baseball with him for hours which he did Alderson said about and I talk about this in the book where he wasn't GonNa act like he knew more than he did. He wasn't gonNA ask. You know pull attitude say. I went to Harvard Law. I was a marine. No way what he did was. He went out and said about learning he. Would you know drive out to Fresno or wherever and catch a minor league game maybe sit by scout and You know pick the scouts brain. Try to learn as much as he could and just slowly try to build a infrastructure for his own ideas about baseball. And that's something. I explored in detail in the book. We have about a minute and a half of what we have to break here and I might point out to people sandy. Alderson started in baseball with the Oakland A.'s. After the HA's family bought the team and that was in Nineteen eighty-one I get the sense that because neither one of them knew that much about baseball and how it worked and they like baseball but they didn't know about the tradition of it that they really went with the comfort area. Both of them Lawyers as a background and that was really given the fact that the host family and Roy is an art was the president of the team was taking over. They had to go with the comfort factor. Did they not yeah? They did in terms of just hired. Good people you respect and that's try to do things that are smart. I mean know. Wally high had son of Walter had worked at Levi. Strauss the family business in community relations. So one thing they did. They immediately brought wally at the as to do a whole new community relations department. That did far more in the community than any baseball team. Ever had the fact that their whole philosophy was a philanthropic one. They wanted to help the community. That's why the family bought the team in the first place. After Charlie family decided to sell so they were looking to help the community in any way they could and then as far as baseball decisions and I think they deferred to Billy Martin in those first years because he obviously knew what he was doing. We only about thirty seconds left. But why did Sandy take the job which job at the Oakland A.'s. Back in the early eighties. Well he he. He badly wanted to do that. He did work as a lawyer for a few years. But you know he looks back and thinks he should have gone to business school instead of law school. It was never a great love of his and he was always very into baseball. He learned it in Japan when his family lived there. When his father was in the military He always was very into baseball. He only played a little second base at Dartmouth and he couldn't hit so he had no future but the jumped at a chance to take a job in baseball. And I it was thrilled to get that chance. Steve Cadman is joined. I hope you'll check out this book we're GonNa make an a selection of the month on the sports byline. Usa Book Corner. It's called Baseball Maverick. How Sandy Alderson revolutionized and revive the mets and two years later he became the general manager of the team..

But I also understand why people would be upset if you're making fun of somebody's age. That's all we're making fun of a Mets. Mets for higher guy. Who's eighty two and I go back to why sandy Alderson was putting there in the first place because the ownership is incompetent right there. What you're saying. You know, when coming out of two thousand eight homemade off stuff, I would say, yes. Okay. Well, there you go. Jerry is back, and he's got an update force. What's happening, Jerry? We are brought to you by winner brothers waste systems, creating a cleaner and greener, Long Island. To learn more visit winters. B R O, S dot com wrap up the NBA draft stuff from last night. We know Zion Williamson one, of course, to the pelicans, John Moran to, to the grizzlies, and the Knicks three as expected, it's RJ Barrett, who is psych when it comes to everything, you know, on the court with the fan base and everything I just feel like went to Duke. We got a lot of attention. And then, you know being in New York is going to be a lot more, but I've just been built this way to handle it. So yeah, I'll be fine. Of course, got great reaction when his name was called at Barclay center in Brooklyn. Great. How would you feel if people were, you know, stream your navy to you feel great? I really feel like I'm doing something good. All Mahad works pay off. So certainly did last night, the number three overall picnic, Koby white was picked out of North Carolina. I think it was six or seven to the bulls. His teammate, Cam Johnson goes eleventh white was at the podium, when Johnson was taken. And he was told by reporter, Patty react to that news he went eleven came in entre Cameron Johnson. Just went eleven teddy react to that news. He went eleven Ken in drought. Yep. Spread on the screen right there. Wow. Wow. Wow, bro. He I mean, and then watching it like he was really genuinely excited for them, by the way, there wasn't just a reporter, that was Zach Gelb. Oh, was it really? That was back Gelb who the great Sadko who was here and CBS sports radio. The son of Bob Gelb, and I believe Zach was on the next the questions to the Barrett or knows ion that I played yesterday. Yes, he was us been all over this NBA draft and good frame. I didn't realize that was in. That's great. His ass off Zakho. Here's David Griffin who pigs I on Williamson for the pelicans, these kids really something physically touched by the hand of God to play this game. He's, he's a population of one. Nobody's really ever been quite exactly like him. No, nobody's really been quite like any of us, but we get his point so he goes number one as we know the hawks up four, they took the Andrei hundred the Cavaliers Darius garland, the nets traded out of the first round, but they had the first pick in the second round and they took seven foot center, Nick Claxton from Georgia, and the Nixon, the second round Agee bras dak- say fr. Freshman forward out of Michigan. All right to the baseball now Yankees and Astros first, we will find out that Aaron judge will indeed be here. So how's he feeling good anytime.

"Will probably I'm guessing keep them round as long as he wants to be kept around. Seems to be enjoying with the minor league. Baseball still has dreams, of course, making the varsity. But again as of from what I saw end of last week was hitting one thirty one and he's like twenty nine thirty thirty one years old. He's right in that neighborhood, but drawing big crowds as as got the following that is nationwide, and he's more his own event than he is any kind of baseball prospect. So again, he you gotta give him credit. That's for sure for having the persistence and the determination to make a game of his ability. And he doesn't really have major league baseball a bit. So the bottom line is he continues to play in the within the minor league system of the Metropolitans. And and you know, that sandy Alderson really sign. Him because he t-boz agent and says this is agent the same. So when cesspit is was that free agent and the Mets wanted him become bag. It was part of a deal that we now know that was made between the agent of both cesspit isn't Tibo and sandy Alderson in the Mets. And that was if we give you back, and we make sure that you can sign y'all. The Cuban defector, Dan gotta sign of to the organization, Tim Tibo. So that's how that came about. And at first sandy Alderson was saying it was baseball decision as you heard during the vernacular bees. Well, really wasn't has a baseball decision. If you were going to do that he wouldn't wanna take him on in your organization when another young player with an upside could be taking his organization roster spot one.

You know, if I look Joe, but he he is going to beat rebel, you think that I I know that Bouma needs you Latino, Gino ruins that show. I was name is Jesus doesn't ruin the show. So he's fine there and Joe will work forever. Admit it. But he's going to be that made must be dying. So. Forever. I'm dumped dead soon. Something will happen. I don't know if it's the Mets going on around the jets going on or maybe the Knicks getting Durant changes everything, but you just going to say I woke up one day. This morning. I'm going to work until I'm nine now. No, that's not happening. I'll try. Let's go to be K in Yonkers man PK where you've been doing. Well, I'm trying to get. So you're pretty busy all the time. Let's talk about sandy Alderson. Can I just realized I'm be Cal fulltime before we get? I don't think I mentioned that we're live in the black based studio and deli meats and cheese only shop. It was like forget about it. I wanted to begin to say what dove the move he made their PK. Listen. Undisrupted for tremendously. Please. Whole time began. Okay. Listen. All this talk station here contract, which our sick over and up getting sicker. Sector of this by you know. You're about to twenty five with sixteen meaningless home run the other day in a grand slam home run. Play. Designator side. Now, they're not doing that. I'll tell you why. I'm not a fan of Todd Frazier. I never wanted. Todd Frazier understand that. So you're not hearing my conjuration WWE bobble did not and I have no interest in jumped. So. Maybe he gave it to jet. I actually didn't go that day that was a Saturday. Right. And you gotta get there relatively early for these things. And unless it's Jacob degrom holding a Cy Young award. I'm not getting there unless I really about the giveaway did get socks on Sunday, which I'm gonna wait for golf. A whole met outfit. That those are jet socks so present from him. Yes. No problem. A little big for him. I'm assuming quite a bit. Fraser who I'm not. I'm not a fan of not personally. I'm sure going gonna do just as a player. I don't use any good. He is good defensively. And for now in this moment until jed Lowrie is back. There is a role for him on this baseball team. Should he play every day now? But I think he's significantly better defensively than JD. Davis whining, JD's bad is better question. So as long as he's not playing every single every single day. I'm okay with him being on this roster. Now, if they eventually get fully healthy jet Lowry's on his way back. I like Jan Larry I think jed Larry's good baseball player. Unlike Todd Frazier that could be a different discussion. But in this moment, I don't think there's a reason to DFA Todd Frazier. Why? Right now for Louis skier may come on. For third catcher, which I know you're a fan of. But that's not worth, you know. So I just don't think there's a need in this moment. And I do the value on this team glove, but I'm not going to defend his back because I don't think it's very good housing in woodridge, Ozzy avid. Jim Rome calls in just get Tim Everett after. Oh my God. I remember that. I do. Yes. Okay. You forgotten. I will say though, I will give Jim Rome credit for this. I know offense. I'm not usually paying that close attention to the minutes. But I was in the car, and I heard it, and it stuck with me. So even though I think it's ridiculous opinion. He got we wanted yet. Attention mentioned it today, and that's the whole purpose here before I get like question. Joe you had how we run on. And that's just put it in the books free Friday night, Picasso game at ten o'clock did wilpon so all those jerseys on the black all is. What is? Friday night. It was the. Sure, do all the t shirts. Harambee connote a next one. Two hours to get good shirt. But I'm sure he's going to sell them on the black market put in the ball throw away. The key lose the combo, you know, every last Jekyll, but Joe so so Allie Gettleman Jared, Lorenzo two point zero six overall, and you use this info to get t shields almost cry on your show yesterday who cried on the show, he dot P. She'll you almost had been tears yesterday when you were talking about when he gets replaced by. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Oh, you mean. Compared the situation with the war. Yeah. Everyone all these giant fans that get upset the guide fans aren't following the Kansas City model following their own model. You got alley Gettleman following the ceremony getting rid of that. Call okay. That. And then you got they did what a course he did he lie with drafted to replace Woerner. Now thrones drafted to replace he li- model, but the New York model is he worked out. Okay. Did they got manning that experience in two thousand four and I thought, you know, the Tino's answer I actually agree with which was once the giants are out of it. No matter how you is playing Daniel Jones, if he likes playing the way Kurt Warner criminal wasn't playing well that year now despite they were, but I can understand how you one game over five hundred and you're making the switch now that his rookie cornerback that you you're putting the season I could see where guys getting ticked off. What do you think would happen? If that situation occurred now with Jones for manning, they're five and four years is not playing. Well, we're all calling him out winning the defense and say figure that they're going to be aggravated. I think you're going see aggravating. And I think you're gonna see guys in a lot room aggravated about it. Well, guys in the locker room, and I understand why. But you remember back to that year with Warner, and it's it's bizarre to think about because curt ones all Famer on and had grades. Done. Now. Let's be honest. I mean, he goes to the cloud does takes them to the Super Bowl. They come this close to winning. Yeah. If you look at what he did that year that was his worst year in the NFL. No, it doesn't make a lot of sense. Maybe was the offensive line. Whatever the reason it was his worst season in the NFL. So when the giants replaced Kurt Warner they not only replacing him with a number one overall pick any lie manning, they were replacing a guy they had no affiliation with and water. But they were replacing wasn't playing. Well, right. Right. So I think when we come to this twenty nine thousand nine season. What's the answer house Eli playing what's their record all of those things will determine if Daniel Jones place. Yeah. I don't think that even if he likes playing well and two and six of two and seven let's say two and six even because that means they're not completely done his point. I I don't think they're not they're not gonna make the switch. If they will definitely do I think they will I on the side of once they're done. They'll make the switch when they get to eight dollars or nine losses. They'll make the swim get guy now, and I wasn't his guy. So that's you know, that's going to be pushed a little bit here. Look this season. Even if the giants have bad again is ridiculously fascinating based on this based on this whole discussion. I think there's something to get him in that he wants to prove that he's right about this guy. Well, he better be. Well, no have you saying, but I think there's something to that. Sure. Sure. Well, we're gonna find out his tenure here is now there's annual John Delcor and he doubled down on tripled down on. And there's no way to know because he said the other day, I this is David Letterman. I know for a fact someone was gonna take him before seven what the Broncos are saying, well, you know, what? Nobody I don't know what a Redskins Redskins to say the same thing that they weren't they weren't gonna draft him. So who knows I don't know. We don't know we don't. But I think a lot of giant fans rightfully so. Based on the last few months, I don't trust him. I don't believe in. He says. But if he's good it doesn't matter matter where they picked them if he becomes a star. Nobody's gonna care. It took him with the six pick in a draft. It doesn't matter completely on Saturday may fourth. The party starts at the most exciting two minutes in sports. That's right. The Kentucky Derby is on its way, and Bobby these restaurant.

"So he's been pretty consistent Lowry had an aberration of the year last year. What was it twenty four home or something like that ninety nine rabies? That's not his game. And I don't want to hear about the on-base percentage. And all that garbage. The new stats that everybody brings up you can still go based on batting average home runs and rabies. It's okay. Because you don't want to hurt about the when I was talking to Todd Frazier and sandy Alderson himself last radio station. I had them on my show and talk to them both specifically about Todd Frazier and his two nineteen batting average when the Mets just sign. This is prior to last year. And they both kind of shot it down while there's bigger numbers that are out there. He's trending upward in the on-base percentage. Category. Throwing more walks and all that stuff. Todd frazier. Do offensively this year. Exactly, Kevin is in Stanford, Connecticut. What's up? Hey, how are you? Not bad. You know, it's something this creepy craft stuff. You should be talked about like thirty nine years today. The USA beat the Russia. I haven't heard one mention of that, you know, stuff like that. You know, this stuff is just. How can I seventy seven year old guy know? The to a massage parlor the team normal billionaire. Look, I can't relate. I'm not a billionaire. I mean, I don't know what I don't know what he's thinking at his age as famous as he is with all the success that he has had why you would feel the need to go out and do something like that. I it's like insanity. I it's just like it's like fake news. You know, it's weird. Real news. Kev. Oh, yeah. I know. It's just like weird. I you know, everybody's got to gravitate towards story. Did you know, you know, I just did you know that thirty nine years ago today, the USA team beat the Soviets in the miracle on ice where you were. Yeah. Oh, okay. First thing I opened up with I must have missed that just wanted to tell you. Thirteen years old. Exactly where you were that night. I remember gave it on tape delay. And they they played at eight o'clock at night, David. It was something that you're talking like the biggest upset in sports history. Yeah. Yup. Up close enough in the top five now. Yeah. Do you ever love that movie miracle? I thought that was awesome. I thought I love the big hockey guy. That's all I love hockey. That I wish people would talk more stuff like that about. But that's that's all I got to say. Okay. Have you know, I was gonna get to that. I brought that up. I didn't realize that you had done that prior. So thanks for checking in appreciate it. Eight seven seven three three seven sixty six. Sixty six already is in Brooklyn. What's up already? Dhamma man what's going on already? How are you bud? All right. So explain this to me. Okay. The Mets have a guy their their payroll is not in the top five. Right. They're gonna go and be amid tight on salary. So now, you got to GM's you got. Got a guy who has no spirits talks. Like like Rex Ryan. And all right. Good looking guys weeks. Well, whatever fine. Assistant GM. Tampa. All right. But you gotta admit they're going to get the Yankees. They're gonna get some Red Sox. I think they're doing pretty well as far as like what payroll and getting talent and competing, right? Good-looking restaurant guy. So I said all right. Let's give them a chance. What is he Joe he goes, and he gets himself his guy? He goes and trades. Who arguably contract? PD's what expect from him? And then you go sweet. He did he did get Edwin d as back in that deal. Now, I didn't love that trade. Either hardy I would not have if I'm going to take on canno-. I want them to either eat I want them to either eat all of the salary, if I'm giving the prospects back or I hold onto my prospects and use them elsewhere, maybe an JT with Muto deal and have and take more money. That's what I would have done with the custodial along with what he basically do. But he took Sandy's prospects. Okay. Don't. Any right and sold them. And that's how we got his boy lower Unia. He ended up taking that twenty million. And you would he basically did what? Bruce is. Check it out and the metro panel right now right now, I don't know if they're good enough to compete with the Philly and the national semi no white. Okay. I love Jake. All right and guy. I don't know what he's gonna do. But they give him twenty five million dollars a year. I'm sorry. You can't do that. When your payroll? Midmarket? They have to do that already. They have to what are you gonna lose? Have much situation where you have a twenty five thirty million dollars. John. And that's your team, basically. Thanks already always bringing the passion, which is of course appreciated. You look I can't get into their limitations financially. It's right now it's about trying to keep this team together and build on top of it. So I don't wanna hear that. Well, if they signed the ground twenty five million a year, that's it. Well, it can't be it. If it is it, and they're not gonna win anything simple as that. The issue to me is not necessarily just Lowry as a player Lowery may have intangibles. Larry may be a good locker room guy. Maybe a good head or good offensive player. Two years twenty mills not breaking the Bank, certainly, but the Mets could use that money. Elsewhere. I would have preferred AJ Pollock in center field. You don't need jed Lowrie 'cause you had Jeff Jeff McNeil. And then see mowing Gonzalez who is a better player than jed Lowrie. I think I'd rather have Morgenthau's when you for two years twenty one million more versatile could play the outfield a little bit. I'd rather have him. He's five years younger. I'd rather have him for two years twenty one then two years twenty for jed Lowrie. Mets have made some questionable moves. They've made moves but to me, they're questionable eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six more your calls on the other side it Sal licata on the fan. Oh, hi there. We'll have you downtown everybody out there. Hope you have a nice day weird is the seem strange in the middle of the week. I don't know. I don't know. Why? Right. Definitely like you said if it was on a Saturday you cover charge. You're not you're not getting arrested on I'm sorry, sir. We look few degrees palm. It'd be even crazier because there are a lot of people who don't celebrate til the weekend because not everybody can make stuff work during the week. Right. I don't know. What do we think baseball players? Do they often report writer? I'd Valentine's Day every single year. They do something big the week before. I'm sure they do. I'm sure they do unless they bring bringing their family down there. But you get exhausted working out. Trump said he do something before also if you're met your port Saint Lucie. It's not like you have a million options place of places to go to celebrate Valentine's. I've heard so much like this before the Mets game. There was nothing there. And now, it's just the Mets and nothing there. So right. There's some stuff there's enough I spring training town early. And then that's it. What I would imagine baseball. It's not like you're we go down now. Okay. There's a couple of chain restaurants place, your Duff's. Duffy is the bar the bar the grill the the bowling alley. Yeah. But if you're married to a guy who plays for a professional baseball team. You're probably expecting something a little bit more than that. Yeah. You know? It's more like what you would get in New York City and Manhattan mass compared to port St. Lucie, Florida. Yeah. The high end in port in Lucie is not the same as. Around here. So the Yankees pitchers and catches her in the Mets their pitchers and catchers and everything is everybody's excited. That's great now. It's like, okay. Can we just fast forward these next six weeks? Sleaze just when does he go there? Get a little excited the first spring training game. It's cool. You watch the first the top of the first thing about whatever your team sends its first three hitters out. Now, I have to sit through another thirty games of this. Yeah. No, no. If I if you guide help, you if you, you know, you get the time wrong, and it's like the games went on for an hour know everybody right though, these guys here's number ninety six pitching to number eighty three. Right. You know, he's just signed yesterday by the Yankees be in rookie Waffen two years. He's filler because they need a body because somehow in a training camp with fifty guys they ran out of able bodied spot. Absolutely. And you know, there's always some quote unquote, prospect you hear about him and weeks go by and like, well what's wrong with the guys he hurt? And it's like the last two days. He's now he's been a sign that class able now he gets to play. Like, what was the problem? Why didn't pick him? We'll see what he looks like the biggest news of met Cam. Probably the biggest store while tracking. Because like Mickey Callaway told you today starting rotation set. There's no battles there. There's maybe one or two battles for positions in the everyday lineup. The biggest stink. A foul with the Mets is what happens with Peter Alonzo. We're all going to be looking every day. They reassigned him to Myers camp when the mid- middle of March and late March comes along it's going to be every day, they send him down. Or is he going to be with the club? What's what's going to happen there because that's really the Mets are now. Great, but they're pretty solidified. Yeah. At least in the starting positions. Yeah. You know, if I hope he's hitting three fifty to make it difficult to you know, he has to be because I don't wanna see him hit three fifty. And well, we're going to send them that. Stop. I don't wanna about arbitration. I don't wanna win or not if he's hitting like three hundred three fifty and he's leading the team at home runs in the spring. And he gives a great showing. I mean, we're all going to be screaming when they sent him down tell us. Todd Frazier starting phase opening day. Who's the guy keeps calling me at one time freezer outta here? That's right. It's me. I when I run into the other control. Yeah. I said look if he hits to ten I understand. But I don't think he's gonna hit to ten and I. This is this is this is what homegrown is all all about. You just you gotta give them a clear path. You gotta give them a position you can't say, well, we're not we're going to do with them. Just put him at first and Leigh below nine. Yeah. I understand. There's a case to be made for you know, now that you bring them up last year. So now, you wait and you push the deadline back service time all that. I get that. But this is a team for all they want to tell us that they're winning now did intrigue grab they went out. They added veterans they want to win now. Well, those games in April day matter they can't just the same as the games in May, June July August and September after you bring that guy up. So if you lose a couple of games by a with Todd Frazier striking out in the ninth inning in April while Peter Alonzo is in Syracuse that's gonna be tough to sell the fans, especially when we all those met fans, they didn't go that extra mile signing a player and all that stuff. I mean, it seems like another hedging their bet going. We're say we're going all we wanna win. Right. But let's not actually do. I I'm I'm drawing a blank did. They get. Dom Smith his they're just going to say that that could be interesting to what if he hits the lights out of the box spring training. What to do with them? I would start if he's hitting the ball. Oh, yeah. Wait a minute. How did I miss something? I said now he's still there that could be. That's what that's where I'll be okay with Alonzo going down. Maybe is if Dominic Smith plays really, well, I'll give him a shot because this is we're still only year removed from what he was a hotshot prospect. Right. Some guys it takes a little bit longer. If he's hitting the cover off the ball is spring training. He's at least mid a bare minimum. He's part of a platoon when the team has north. And it's weird because that's really that's all you're looking at what the Mets say. Hopefully, nobody gets hurt because we know we know the corner outfielders we always played second is short and third and who's catching. I just here. Now, see red fares. Really don't have this kind of kind of a problem. What if Lonzo and Smith hitting? I would bring them both who put him in put Dominic Smith and left opportunity. I you know, what I would have him then bay guessing utility guy, you know, they split time at first a little bit. And then Smith, you know, it's not the greatest, but he could play left and then Conforto a number nemo moves to center if he's hitting that. Well, yeah, I think you have to you can either either to keep him in your lineup or to be guy that maybe we trade for a position that we need more. Someone's always going to be looking for first basement if he can actually hit right? And again, I know most of met fans and most of the baseball world has given up on the guy. I don't wanna do that yet. No, no. I know I would like to see a maker. Nice pleasant problem. Everybody's hitting wouldn't it be a nicer price. Don't we met fans deserve something like that? Yeah. We everybody's ready to label the guy bus, wouldn't it be also if Dominic Smith and Ahmed Rosario both have great years two thousand eighteen right front. Although we deserve that we deserve something front office. I told you it'd be good. See well, all of a sudden, we'll hear from sandy Alderson against see I told you we retort back. Well, then why did you give them a real fair chance at any point? You know what? I'm going away again, right? Eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six. At five forty back on Saturday at the morning and then Saturday evening at the ten let's go to Robyn Conyers, New York, rob. You're on the fan. You've seen it many many times. I would say Louis many times. At the Yankees, lose argument's sake. Sobat severino. Dan, deep deep water. Yeah. He got a lot of youngsters and then one thing I saw I've seen Michael king pitch in the minors. And I thought he might be a good choice. He's got an MRI. He's got issues with his arm already. Uh-huh. Already. Really? Yeah. And I really he's a big guy was counting on him. Because I like him. To the and those guys like that might have to step up and wasn't Montgomery. He's saying, you know, he's about three months away. So that's you know, you could count on him at some point. But I I wouldn't be waiting for. If guys has come back from Tommy John, you know, you never know if he has a setback or not. I heard metal king in Montgomery was that far away. You gotta forget about the the big names, which I love. No, no, they unless their pitchers. No, you're not. You're not gonna do that. I mean, if one guy goes down on two legs. Channels every year. Share where the Yankee co where they go. Maybe trading deadline if they can hold out, but. Yup. Okay. Man. Thank you know. They're to have to.

New York Mets on Matt Harvey 'partying' report
"Pitching the next night in san diego out of the bullpen gave up a home run in that game certainly not ideal optics there for matt harvey and his general manager sandy alderson with his thoughts i don't think it was in this case but the other thing is matt has to understand that people always notice what he does and we were talking today it's like a borderline pitch in his case it's all it always gets called a strike you know as a as a hitter take that pitch don't take that pitch seems like he always it's always called the strike and probably learned something from it sandy are you upset by that report usually i get it i get upset if the report is unexpected so i guess short answer is no the not unexpected behavior for matt harvey according to the gm sandy alderson in sandy sounded like someone who's had to do a few too many of these kinds of press conferences about is one time star pitcher now pitching out of the bullpen with a five point seven six era and fed up you know talking about it and while it might not have been a major problem in this case it is part of an ongoing issue with matt harvey now mickey callaway was a little more open about it in terms of had a conversation with matt harvey but remember sandy's been through this for years and years and years this is the first time the mickey callaway is don't like with something like this remain harvey and you'll remember back in the off season the mets consider dealing harvey at the winter meetings and it was calloway as well as dave islands who thought that you know they could get matt harvey pitching well again and they wanted him to stick around they saw some things they liked on tape we haven't seen that in games thus far and you know another strike against matt harvey on with this issue we'll dive more into your own assessment is being back in the starting lineup tremendous news for the new york mets coming up preview this series a little bit but every tuesday night we have a chance to chat with.
