"There's sail from the Wilpon Cats family's values the franchise that more than 2.4 billion a record. Our baseball team. The sale is likely to close within the next 10 days. It will be controlled by Cohen, who will own 95% of the franchise. He pledged to inject about 9.5 million in additional payments this offseason to pandemic hit employees. Former Mets GM Sandy Alderson will return as team president Jeff Passan earlier on outside the lines. One thing we have to recognize Is that owners are looking out for themselves. And when they see the purchase price of the team like the New York Mets fetching upward of $2.5 billion, that means their franchise values are going to go up A CZ well in a healthy New York Mets organization is on ly a good thing for the rest of baseball. We see How a healthy New York Yankees organization has now taken franchise values beyond what I think anyone ever considered, they could be the Mets if they are run the right way, if they turn into a successful organization can be every bit as powerful as the New York Yankees in the biggest city in the United States in the biggest media market in the world. Sandy Alderson, apparently coming back here is the general manager for eight years. Then he was out on sick leave. Of course, he was with the Oakland A's for two decades. The end of the 20th century. The fact that Steven A. Cohen wants to bring in Sandy Alderson bring him back. 72 years old. What does that tell us about the way he's going to run this from a baseball operations perspective? It tells us that Steve Cohen wants stability. Steve Cohen wants somebody who has been there who brings respect the job and who probably congrats on somebody. And in the end Sandy Alderson's there to steady the ship and then they're going to put rocket fuel in it. Whether it's with free agents, whether it's with trades and try and shoot the thing to the moon. Hey J hinges. Getting another opportunity to be a major league manager is the Detroit Tigers have hired Lynch, who returns to a major league dugout after being Fired by the Astros the last winter in the wake of Houston's sign stealing scandal, he guided the Astros to the 2017 World Series title. Hinch and GM Jeff Loon out were dismissed immediately after Major League Baseball suspended them for the just completed season. Hinch on what he's learned from that experience, as I've reflected back and learn to grow, and ultimately decompress from something that was very wrong, that's part of my story. It's not the tiger story, and I understand the question and I understand how wrong It was and I'm sorry for that. I've said that before I'll say it again. I'll continue to say it. I'll never forget the feeling. I'm sorry that today has that has to be a topic and I understand why this is such an exciting day for me in such an exciting day for the Tigers, but they're real conversations. When you get into these these positions passing, meantime, expected Hinch. To get another shot. I gotta be honest, It's not that much of a surprise. I mean, despite the fact that a J. Hinch was the manager for the Astros team that got caught cheating during its World Series winning season in 2017 is a lot of friends in the game. He has a lot of people who like him in the game, and because of that he was likely to get opportunities whether it was going to be managing whether it was going to be in a front office. He's been in different roles in the game and seeing a J. Hinch back. This quickly is not a surprise. Guys. More baseball comings and goings regarding player options. The Indians declining. The options are for Brad Hand. Carlos and Domingo Santana. Saving nearly 31 million towards next season's payroll comes to climbing to $25 million option for Jon Lester, who pistol better than five yards. Last season, Rangers declining Cory Clubbers $18 million option. He lasted just one inning and his only start before. A shoulder injury Ko his season the White Sox declining the options for Edwin in corn, ASIO and Geo Gonzalez totaling about 19 Million, and the Rays passing on picture Charlie Morton, as well as catcher Mike Zunino and their options. This is SportsCenter all night on ESPN Radio and the ESPN APP. I'm Jim basketball load reporting. Steve Nash, who won two MBPs, while Played point guard for Mike D'Antoni's sons in the mid to thousands. Now the head coach of the Nets will have D'Antoni as well as longtime Spurs assistant M a judoka beside him as assistance. On the bench of the Brooklyn Nets. Here's WHOA. Tch on SportsCenter. He could've has easily reunited with Daryl Morey in Philadelphia and Doc Rivers had not been let go with the Clippers. It's very likely Mike D'Antoni would have been the next head coach of the Sixers. But Doc Rivers became available and then the marketplace essentially dried up on Mike D'Antoni. He had this offer from Steve Nash to come to Brooklyn and Nash had been pretty persistent with him to try to get him to do it, and I don't think there's another assistant coaching job in the end. Hey, that Mike D'Antoni would have accepted, but so he knows what Steve Nash has meant to him and to his coaching career and a team in Brooklyn that has a chance to compete for a championship. He's going to go join Nash there and and run it back again with him. So what about this beefed up bench for the Nets that includes some assistance of high caliber? J. Williams? Sanjay Willens? Ooh, I like this for the Nets. I think continuity in their offense is something that's really good. And I like Might Mike D'Antoni in an assistant role, helping with Jack von helping with Steve Nash? Helping them with their offensive fluidity. I think that's pretty important. Here's why I like the higher You have a lot of guys on the Nets that like having the ball in their hands. Kyrie Irvin, Kevin Durant even know Kevin played in Golden State without the ball with the continuity offense, Spencer dimwit e Paris Le vert guys that like to dance with the ball. I think now having Mike D'Antoni in creating some kind of continuity system, with Steve Nash working together. Steve Nash did play for Mike when they're in Phoenix together, familiarity with the system like, Kyrie said, and he got trash for this, but this is also with Steve Nash said. This will be a collaborative effort. Between all these minds. Kevin Durant, Kyrie, Steve Nash, Jack Vaughn and Mike D'Antoni. And I like the direction you're move. Yeah, The key is those players Duran and Irving staying on the floor for the coming season. Mohr N B. A is won'th reports. We appreciate the kind words here, um Yeah. Look, I I think the men you go back to the D. H and the analytics and all that stuff. You referenced the Mets. They're a little bit. I do think there's got to be a balance about Thie Analytics. I do think the D h need they need to make a decision. I think it's just time for to be universal. As far as the Mets. Let me just say this, I know and I am very happy that channel Sandy Alderson is going to be back. I love Sandy personally, and I think the Mets could not have done any better as far as Faras hiring. Ah, President to run the baseball operation, So I love that higher from Steve Cohen. I think it's going to be great. I have a little bit of a hard time with people. Just being nasty toward the Wilpons. And I don't. I just don't think that that's fair When you look at overall I get the frustrations and I understand the lack of, you know being involved in big free agents from 2010 on But I mean there were reasons for that, and they were You know they were victims. To a certain extent, so that's number one number two. They did win a World Series in 1986. They were again in a World series in 2000. They were again in the World Series in 2015. I'm not saying that it was the greatest run ever. But I do feel like There is this vitriol toward them that I'm not sure is nice or fair, honestly, And I know it's been like that for a long time. And I get the fans are frustrated and angry. Well, you know what? Now you got what you want. Do you have to You kicked him on the way out and knock him down. I mean, I just Look, it's to me. It's it doesn't I never really get caught up in the ownership aspect even know prior to any thought of any change. I would always say it's not about the owners. It's about the team. Now. A lot of times the owners could get in the way of who's putting the players on the field, right? And obviously, lack of spending can be an issue. I get all that. But I I think there could have been worse and I also don't think that they were You know, as you people making about to be like they're bad people, they're not They were not bad owners..

"Making that team into a winner. I do remember that there were a couple of managers between Billy Martin and when you finally hired Meyer Tony. Larussa. Yeah. But the thing I think I remember most about him is one of first time I met him and we sat down and we were talking baseball and he says I break the season down into three parts when I come out of spring training. Then right before the trade deadline and then the postseason and I thought about that later and I thought I'd never heard that from a manager before now he's very analytical. He had. One of the funniest questions I got when we hired him of course, he had been manager of the year Nineteen eighty-three, right? So it wasn't like we were hiring some unknown person but I was asked somebody whether it hired him because he was an attorney 'cause. Decree and since Sandy. Alderson had a law degree and I had a law degree I. Guess They thought I was trying to stack. The as and turns it into some kind of law firm rather than what team. But whatever. Tony Has that ability to take problems, com, divide them into their separate components and come up with a very analytical way of solving him. So he's a, he's perfect manager for a team. That has the talent to win because he knows how to win. Well between you and Sandy Alderson and Tony Larussa as as a lawyers, you could had an appeal court. We cut. Yeah. Argument though. Because we're all chained in arguing, but he was actually one of the happiest periods of my life was when Tony was managing. 'cause he was really the last piece we had put the players together. We put the farm system together, but we didn't have the manager to take him over the top and that's what Tony was. He was the last piece of the puzzle. While the dodgers get their first championship and many many many years as they win in six games over the Tampa Bay rays winning the clincher three to one. But boy is there are a lot of talk about the Yanking by Kevin cash a Blake's now and I have a quote here in front of me, the rays pitching philosophy focuses on not allowing starters to face hitters a third time in a game now I'm sorry but. But I gotTa tell you Roy. I have a real problem with that type of philosophy because this guy struck out eighteen of thirty eight batters he faced in the world series. He won the Cy Young Award. He was your Stud on the pitching staff and they didn't have very many others that you could put in that same category. I don't understand that what was your read on this series to begin with and then deciding game On the series was. Interesting dodgers are clearly the more talented team I. Actually think that cash had brought the raised. Maybe further than they might have gone Based just on raw calibration of talent but I, you know it was an interesting series particularly that came with that weird play where the runner falls going around third base. Ends up lying I'm home plate with the winning run I. Think we'll see that in a lot of replace for a lot of years. So anyway, it was an entertaining series something. Weird about having fans and then playing a neutral facility and so forth. But set all that aside you know I. I one of the wonderful things about baseball is you can always second guess. At the time he took the picture out I thought HM. Seems a little peremptory. But he managed so well up to this point, I give him the benefit of the doubt and if the reliever it brought in gotten mookie betts to strike out and got the third out would've look like a genius move that's not the way it worked out on. there is a tendency these days for analytics to overwhelm in what I'll call intuition. And I think if a manager been managing on intuition, he might have left the pitcher in whole. The number is about you know third three times the lineup and back yet mookie betts coming up and The guy just before it got into basit and smell had never pitch past six innings. There are a lot of factors that you have to take in mind and I learned a long time ago to trust the managers instinct because they're on the field they know the players they get the sense of what it is as we saw in dusty Baker walked out and looked. At his pitcher and the eyes and saw that he should leave him in rows wouldn't take him out that turned out to be the right thing. Well, that was against the book, but it worked out. Great. So you know we all say that was a terrific move. I am very forgiving of managers in how they make decisions I mean within then that's and. So I don't second guess that move Who knows if he had left demand and Mookie Betts home run then we would have said he should've taken him out. So it's it is what it is to more baseball related questions. First of all, if there was a stain on the world series and that last game it was that Major League. Baseball now intends to investigate dodgers player Justin Turner's actions. After what happened in an appeared to be a blatant breach of Corona virus protocols during the last game and the investigation could result in a fine suspension or both. Now, the background story on this is he was taken from the game after he twice tested positive for the virus in the final hours forcing his removal from the game number six after the seventh inning and yet after the game was over. And he was directed to an area isolated from his teammates. He came back out without a mask he was told. That he could not. He had to return to isolation he refused. And several of his dodger teammates supported Turner's presence this. Upset. It upset me quite a bit because. At some point. We've got to draw the line in the sand about doing something about this virus and to me something as visual and people could see everything it just sent the wrong message M. My off-base on this roy well, you're not a base with me teams like the country is divided fifty, five, forty, five, this kind of question. But I happen to agree with you because as his liberalize online have sounded about not second guessing managers I definitely second guess that decision because it's not just himself that was at risk with. The positive test, it's all the players around the. Other people ushers the guards, the clubhouse people and this Cova not whatever we want to say about it. Can Be an extremely consequential virus and we never know when it's GonNa hit somebody really hard what we call. Long haulers. So I just hope that Turner gets better I. Hope no dodger players, Dave Roberts or anybody contracts covert from that. But I think that that was what I would call irresponsible behaviour because he was putting other people at risk. It's one thing when we all decide to go skydiving ourselves but you don't skydive if you're putting somebody else's health at risk and.

"The practice field talking everybody you know going over he's working with Devante Freeman yesterday I saw that he's talking to him. He takes the ball goes for just walk through Ron and then he's overrunning over to telling them what to do and do this and do that it just he seems like he's in control like he stepped into the situation and he was unquestioned. Because of the way that he handled him extremely extremely important for a head coach to have the energy without the fans you got. You gotta somebody's gotTa bring the energy every single day, and it seems like he's the guy that's doing that and hopefully the players appreciate that and hopefully that stuff doesn't wear off if they continue to lose. and. Then they'll finally get you know they'll get it right once they start getting better players in here and everything else but I do believe that he is the energy and. There's no question in my mind that it looks right just feels right and to go back to Pat Shurmur you know look Pat Shurmur deal right? Pat Shurmur. Had to deal with the whole Eli manning stuff. You know that was the end the allies career that was a big big situation and you could say it was handled clumsily before pat got here I don't think it one over all that well last year when Daniel Jones took over I think everybody felt like Daniel Jones had to take over and should be taking over but the way that That happens in the way that goes down. You know the coaches gotta you know feels the wrath of that. I don't care what anybody says. So now Joe Judge comes in here he does not have to deal with that and now it's his team. It's not allies team you know what I mean yeah. No, it's a much better start that's for cleaner start it's cleaner. You're you're not dealing with something else that impacts everybody which is important position quarterback. Yeah. Especially when the owner is in love with Eli Manning in the way that he is and Dawson. To have him go out on a bad note and wants to give him every opportunity to win one more especially looked around the league and so other quarterbacks allies age were still plane and I hate to say this I mean just and just in hockey. kind of parallel that's Henrik with the Rangers. Henrik can't be with rangers anymore it's over it's done. Nobody cares about hockey boomer do and a lot of people out there do bobby and I just think it's the reality is that he just can't be with rangers anymore they have to young goalies it has to be their team and until he is out of the building unfortunately. It's not the story is going to be about him more. So than anybody else and their time where we all end up. Retired or in the planning for another team depending on contract status depending on. The impact on the salary cap and what happens in all these different sports you know and I just think you know it's time it's sooner or later it's time you have to move on, and if a young team is the takeoff and a young team is to appreciate its young goalies and the pressure is on them now and there's no more discussion as to the hall. Of Fame candidacy of the previous gully then it's their team and the coach doesn't have to worry about that particular relationship anymore, and I think Joe Judge and the.

There next to him and Andy macphail you know. Who's who's got more experience making. Moves, at the deadline then, Andy macphail has so if if, the Phillies don't make a move it's. Night injured his hand in a game between Bigham ten and, the Trenton thunder he has been put, on the disabled list the interesting part about that is that he could have seen time with the big, club and we. May have, seen him. If the, Mets. Who season, is, Don let's face it if the Mets. Would have brought him, up called him. Up, even if it's a September, call up, crowds would be at be people, lined, up to? See? Tim tebow, play, in a major league baseball game You would sell out citizens Bank park every met game if Tibo was in the lineup or, at. Least on, the roster and we don't know the severity, of this. I guess they're, going to send him to a, hand specialist from what. I'm reading, for further tests this. Week and hopefully he can get. Back it's not serious. And he can, get back because I do think that there's a good chance at the Mets would bring him up for the. Month of September and you know the Mets. Are gonna play the Phillies in the month of September you'd have sellouts I guarantee you have sellouts at citizens Bank park jets from people that want to come, and see Tim. Tebow well Tim certainly does have a lot of fans within, the church so it'd be great but, I would like I'd be curious to look up when I get home is his stats for the season That would be warranted or or whether he just Be a publicity stunt right You know maybe I don't want to call it a. "To me sandy alderson making those trades because i on sandy alderson's ability to do and that brings me to my next quantum of the same mindset is you let me ask you this you know sabermetrics has become such a big part of today's game you know everybody tends to go with the the same mode of thinking is everybody else maybe i'm wrong i don't know 'cause i don't follow all the other teams as much as i do the mets but the mitch seem to be the only team that's forever favored or i should say bet heavily so much on it pitcher as opposed to the rest of the team and it just seems like no you know some of these other teams either favorite the hitting more or they they go for the balance now am i wrong in one eight when i'm looking at this judgment well the mets have put their shove their chips in the middle of the table based on starting pitching which as time has gone on has become less and less important it's now bullpens starting pitchers only go five innings go through the rotation the lineup twice in your out that's the way the game is played now and i think the other problem is overvalued their starting pitching other than syndergaard into degrom i don't know what stephen matt's is or will become i don't know what zack wheeler is at this point they're certainly not consistent winners as they were sold to us as stud young pitchers and certainly matt harvey didn't work out that way through injuries and other things so instead of having five young arms that we're going to dominate they've got to and they don't have the offense stephen support those two so there you know between in sharon's here right that's it because the you know the majority your team being position players you know it just seems by focusing so much on four or five pitchers more than the position players just seems you're really handicapping yourself you know any event like you said look at the injuries they've had.

New York Mets on Matt Harvey 'partying' report
"Pitching the next night in san diego out of the bullpen gave up a home run in that game certainly not ideal optics there for matt harvey and his general manager sandy alderson with his thoughts i don't think it was in this case but the other thing is matt has to understand that people always notice what he does and we were talking today it's like a borderline pitch in his case it's all it always gets called a strike you know as a as a hitter take that pitch don't take that pitch seems like he always it's always called the strike and probably learned something from it sandy are you upset by that report usually i get it i get upset if the report is unexpected so i guess short answer is no the not unexpected behavior for matt harvey according to the gm sandy alderson in sandy sounded like someone who's had to do a few too many of these kinds of press conferences about is one time star pitcher now pitching out of the bullpen with a five point seven six era and fed up you know talking about it and while it might not have been a major problem in this case it is part of an ongoing issue with matt harvey now mickey callaway was a little more open about it in terms of had a conversation with matt harvey but remember sandy's been through this for years and years and years this is the first time the mickey callaway is don't like with something like this remain harvey and you'll remember back in the off season the mets consider dealing harvey at the winter meetings and it was calloway as well as dave islands who thought that you know they could get matt harvey pitching well again and they wanted him to stick around they saw some things they liked on tape we haven't seen that in games thus far and you know another strike against matt harvey on with this issue we'll dive more into your own assessment is being back in the starting lineup tremendous news for the new york mets coming up preview this series a little bit but every tuesday night we have a chance to chat with.

"Poor outings that you get out of these starting pitchers it's making the road to a division title that much more difficult then on the flip side you have the new york mets winning a game in extra innings over the atlanta braves and it was one of those games that had you sweating going into the extra france you get six solid innings from noah syndergaard this was not a vintage noah syndergaard effort because there are times you expect to go out there and struck out eleven and to hold team scoreless this is not one of those games gives up the home run as the albee's in the first inning it's a two two game where three three game i should say at the end of six jay bruce miss poised at fly ball out in right field but the story for the mets is that their bullpen has been a major strength drought issue and once again you had an example on friday of why mickey callaway dave island and sandy alderson would be insane to take robert zalman and set the lugo out of this bullpen they'll mets do not win on friday evening they don't win if either one of those guys in rotation because the mets were able to outstanding innings from each of those guys lugo the seventh and eighth zalman and the extra frames gazelle mid scores the game winning run for goodness sakes he's doing it all that to me is the big takeaway of this hot start a bullpen that i had serious questions about proved me wrong day by day by day and zelma lugo have become weapons out there and i know there's a lot of talk at least for the time being should matt harvey make his next starting rotation yes jason vargas was back he's yank him of course but am i going to get lugo gazelle man added a bullpen now no way no how and emits end up winning this day in the top half of the twelfth and you'll wanna says this is at a very weird year number ten for fifty five on here very impressive i'll tell you what is impressive as with three game winning hits he has had that flair for the dramatic he has been mr koch and with two outs netapp after twelve inning he delivers with the go ahead rbi single cabrera with the double give you some insurance and the mets bounceback five three of.

"To get i mean when it what are they going to build a team around speed and defense so many i mean losing their opening day line of how do you get excited about the team mood i'm going to have a leadoff hitter we don't even have a catcher iit's not to get excited well these the tension patijn says of god forbid they could ever stay healthy but you're right they needed to get younger and athletic and for whatever reason sandy alderson is allergic to that he doesn't want to get younger and athletic apparently yeah but why don't they get rid of sandy alderson he make an all the bad moon the last year here here's the thing i'm not four getting rid of sandy alderson for a couple of reasons number one even though all more built a lot of that 2015 sandy alderson was certainly a factor a big factor in pudding pieces around that core that won them the pennant and obviously the made the playoffs and sixteen but i'll give you another reason and i don't think anybody could argue with this reason i think this is on flawed on flawed whatever is his reasoning you can't argue with 'cause i brought this up to numerous people who say the same thing they should fight asia fires ngos i bring this up and they get shut down completely day they have no response you ready bogeyed ls guy like to turn the mic on i want you to converse with me on ready have you been paying attention he added out there have a big camelback cares about the say did you hear the bell look i does build up again roku the guy says they should have got rid of sandy i said look i have the the reason why the mets could not get rid of sandy and no one is able to argue with this reasoning dan ready that you care if you can try you can't argue with it i the mets fire sandy alderson do you trust jeff we'll point to find it better replacement mic drop can i that's it that's it we'll get respol your view bringing up the main problem yes where sandy gets.
