Apparently as healthy as medical clearance wants to play a game again and the Nets are aligned to add him as well. And Billy. I'm doing a sportsman today on this I don't understand anymore. I am completely giving up. On NBA roster building salary cap luxury taxes like I don't get it. When the season ended, I was told the Nets have no space limited options. The Lakers have no space limited options, and the Lakers have sought have added six players to their roster, bringing back five former players. Former Lakers plus Carmelo and the Nets have thrown on Patty Mills, Paul Millsap. And maybe LaMarcus Aldridge on top of resigning. Blake extending Dharan. I thought those teams couldn't do anything, but they've done plenty here in the off season. I think that they're going to have to revisit this in the next collective bargaining agreement. Uh, because because players will just take less money now to join these teams. But that's okay. You can't necessarily legislate that if a guy wants to make the veteran's minimum And you know, he's and and he's on the back end of his career. Looking for a title wants to play with his buddies want to play in a cooler city. You can't make them, um You can't make them take more money than they want. I just It's just funny to me that on one hand, the teams can do nothing. What's the rest of the roster going to look like? And they pretty easily and pretty quickly filled out their roster. Now the next question is, does it matter? That can base more and Wayne Ellington are Lakers again? But those guys can shoot Rondo's a postseason weapon. You know, Dwight Harris need to do much, um, coming off the bench for them and Carmelo. Might actually be helpful if he's happy with being, you know, fourth or fifth fiddle in L. A. It's just funny to me that we thought they were. Both of them are in this weird kind of roster. Um not and couldn't do anything. And they both, and they've made a grand total of like nine fairly significant moves here in the off season. Now, um, I got to do this. And Conor and Billy can judge my performance when we come back. But one more time back to Monday morning when I wasn't here for an update. And everybody wondered where I was. It came up on the PGP this week without me, So here is my full responds to all of that when we come back here on the D, a.

"700 wlw, the home of the Cincinnati Reds, 12, 09 and welcome It's the series finale against the Marlins and a chance to win the series after the Reds and the Marlins have split the first two. In this three game set last night, the Marlins with the winds 6 to 1. It did not start well for the Reds and ultimately did not end well for the Reds. Glad. Gutierrez allowed five first inning runs, and the Reds simply never recovered his manager, David Bell, on goody errors and his troubles in anyone last night against Miami. Just the first inning, Um some hits cut through and turned into long inning had Lot of pictures. Um, but then he, uh You know, he he He was able to get out of that and then throw a couple more innings might have. We didn't get in this situation to hit for him. You might have pitched another inning or two, Um Really? Not the way he threw the ball in the first inning, Um, that I felt like dancing to call got a lot different. Bell had to dip into his bullpen for five innings. Gutierrez went 37 hits, five runs all earned, struck out too, and allowed a home run. He falls to nine at five on the season. Meanwhile, the Marlins countered last night with Sandy Alcantara. He's one of the better pitchers in Major league baseball. And it was a week of seeing just some of the best pitching in the National League are thought not lost on Tucker Barnhart, who had a couple of hits last night. By the way, I thought not lost on him. Our last three losses have been against Byrnes, Woodruff and Al Contra. And so you know, I mean, it's Tough to swallow any loss, obviously, um, but those are going to happen. I mean, those are three of the I mean, you could probably say that top 10 arms in the National League. Um and you're going to take your lunch We got we got Sandy at our place and he got us here. So it's just one of those things that it's a He's a tough guy to Really string things together on um I was you know, I was blown away. I got I got to second base while he was out there and I Got to watch his pitches from like, Obviously, I feel them in the box, and I see them when they're coming to me as a hitter, but being behind him at second basing and watching them do what they do just it was it was special. He's a special armed special talent. Um So it's just one of those things where you just turn the page and move on. Take your lumps because they're going to happen with guys like that, for sure. Two at night for Barnhart, last night Truck had a couple of hits. So did Castellanos. But the Marlins win it 6 to 1 bottom line After last night's game, the Reds are still two games ahead in the chase for that second wild card. The Dodgers just obliterated the Padres last night 10 to 2 so Reds two games up in the wild car chase 31 games to go. Today. They sent to the mound tighter. Malle now know this about Malley. His last three road starts have been terrific suffered or was the victim. I should save a blown save at Milwaukee on Tuesday. Last road start was against Philadelphia back on August the 13th and he went seven innings. Three hits of the three. I'm sorry, seven innings. Of three hit baseball, no runs allowed and the one before that was at Chicago against the Cubs back on July the 28 he went 65 innings. Of he went six innings of five hit baseball last three on the road for Mallee. Absolutely terrific. Today, he's on the mound looking for season win number 11. Against Jesus Luzardo of the Miami Marlins, who is poor and seven by the way today starting pitchers brought to you by Western and Southern financial group. Helping to make Cincinnati the best place to live work and enjoy life and by Richter and Phillips voted best jeweler and best place to buy your engagement ring. Well, the Reds are cooking at the major league level, but below the major legs for every single major league Baseball franchise. It's not a pretty picture. Life on the minor league level is not good. In fact, life on the minor lake level is downright bad In a lot of instances because minor league baseball players are grossly underpaid and some even the better prospects in baseball are getting out. Because they simply can't afford to live in the minors. The housing situation for everybody in this country is is tough. You know what it might. It's like if you're looking for a hotel room, or if you're looking for an Airbnb. Imagine what it's like. When you're only making $500 a month, but yet that some of the situations that we found in minor league baseball when it came to salary we being Russell Carlton, a baseball prospectus dot com is on my show about a week ago. And we were talking about life for minor league baseball players. Here's part of what Carlton and I talked about and how difficult baseball at that level is. Yeah, I mean, most people, most people realized that you know, minor leaguers play get paid about 10 15,000 year for their for their work. After the season, depending on what level they're at, and the problem is that you know there are they can only commit to being, uh in one city. You know, whatever level that happened to be at Um, for, you know, a total of 56 months out of the year. So now they're looking at you Can't you can't find a yearlong lease. And then you get into. Well, what if I get promoted or, you know, hopefully demoted But you know, you get reassigned. Well, then what happens to my lease? And then you also have to think about it. Well, you know how much does it really cost to rent an apartment? And so you hear a lot of stories and their true about, you know, 56 guys living in the two bedroom apartment and, you know, do you have a bed? Or are you speaking on an air mattress or a pool floaty or Whatever it is, uh And so a lot of when I've heard this and some some guys, especially this year with the covid pandemics. Um, you can't do host families. And so, um, there's a There's a lot of concern around there. So it's tough because you're you're not entirely sure where you're sleeping, and some guys are turned to the Airbnb type of places where you just kind of see what's available and you move in there for the week that you're having a home stand. And so it's It's tough because Now you're into will wear them. You know where my physically going to sleep that might do We have enough money for groceries, too, you know, for and especially for the guys who were, you know, doing professional work with their bodies and their their athletes. That's what they do. They have to stay healthy. And so it's It's the sort of thing where there's just always that worry that is in the background. And, you know, I wanted to write an article and baseball perspective about that level of worry and what that can possibly due to a player. You wrote it so well and another thing. A lot of these guys are college athletes, former college athletes. They live nothing like this. A lot of these players are from distant countries from the Dominican in other places, and they think they're coming to the United States. And it's the land of milk and holly. Well, in a large way It is but the land of milk and honey cost a heck of a lot to afford than just getting by. Or living with family members or whatever the cost of living, maybe, for example, in the Dominican Republic, so it's kind of an interesting dynamic that gets thrown together and to compounded even more as you point out. Lot of these kids and they are kids are 18 19 years old and and some younger, but basically they're in their late teens. And where it may sound like an adventure. If you're in college in the real world when you're living in some far away place in the middle of nowhere, which is where most of these minor league teams are. It's not an adventure. It's real life. Why is baseball not concerned about this? Why are they mean? They threw money at a problem? I guess, but they certainly haven't thrown any kind of You know, mental assistance at this or they wouldn't have this situation. Why is baseball so slow to the uptake on this? Well, I mean, the the obvious answer is its chief. I mean, if you if you just if people are weighing willing to pay for or to play for that level of wage and and you know, you can get them to do that, Then they'll do it. But I I I worry that what baseball teams are being penny wise, pound foolish around is that when you have somebody who is anxious all the time about not having enough money or Where am I going to? You know, how am I going to make do in the off season? How am I gonna, um, where am I going to live then with you know if I'm spending all the money now I have now I'm just accommodations for or The current season. If you have somebody who's always kind of has that low level of background anxiety, even if things work out, you know, my my own professional field is in psychology, and one of the things we know is that that's actually a very toxic way to live..

"By him in the left field for a base hit. That's the sixth head of the inning for the Marlins. Five of the six are singles. One That wasn't was a homer. This is going to be decision time. Pretty quick here for David Bell, one way or another, Whether you go rescue your starter here in the first inning, whether you see if he can get out of this ending and then maybe give you a little bit. Get you halfway through the ball game. But this is one of those games where it seems like anything that can go wrong is going wrong for his starters. When you go back to the little flare into right field off the bat of Alfaro. On what looked to be broken bat. Base hit. It turned into a big hit, and then that opened the door for the Big Three run home run the pitch. Is taken for ball down and away to Alex Jackson. Jackson hitting just 1 15. Three homers. Eight RB eyes He came over in the Adam Duvall trade. From the Braves. Here's the one Oh, instead of picture first and back safely is Dale accrues. Yeah, As far as the Reds are concerned, it doesn't appear that there's any throwing right now and the Reds bullpen. Gutierrez from the belt back home with a one. Oh, and there's another sharply hit ground ball through the left side. That's a single up the second base daily cruise, and they just continue to pepper ground balls for how the infield and find holes Yeah, it could be so frustrating for a picture to you know, you make a good pitch, You get a bad result. You make another good pitch to get another base hit and pretty soon you think you have to be a superhero out there just to get it by him. You're Barnard going to them out. He's trying to settle down. Gutierrez now. And Joey Votto will draw the infield together and have a word with Kyle Farmer 1st and 2nd base with one out nobody up at all for the Reds bullpen down there. They're walking around, loosening up a little bit. Derek Johnson going to the phoned out of Probably get somebody up and going, But this isn't the kind of ballgame that if he continues to get bratty tacked around, you want to leave them out there. Now the pitcher the ninth man Too bad in the inning. Gutierrez gets the sign he comes set corners are tight. Gutierrez delivers the pitch and it's strike called to Contra and account his own one. Always a good thing when you are a starting pitcher and bat in the first inning. Yeah, you gotta imagine Sandy Alcantara is pretty happy with the way things have gone so far, this one's more runs than they've gotten for him all months. The Reds. Now the good part of it is that they do have a couple of pitchers down there that had been starters earlier this year. Well contra against squares gets the bunt down in front of home. Barnhart picks it up. Look to second, he goes to first he had an out at third. At the first look was down to farmer covering at second base. It will be a sacrifice bunt. But when things are unraveling the way they are for the Reds in this first inning You can understand Barnhart, not wanting to take too big of a risk. Further compounding this if things were to go awry with that throw There is a process structure to four on that sacrifice bunt. Harland have batted around in the first is Miguel RoHaas? That's again. Marlon leadoff hitter singled to start this inning. On a ground ball. That was just to the left of Mushtaq. US..

He came in four and one with a buck 99 e R a Today's pitching line, seven innings, three hits, one run one walk a career high eight strikeouts. 89 pitches 65 for strikes to lower his E R a to 3.68 in Mike Moustakas, mired in a prolonged slump. So great to see him snap out of an O for 26 streak with the leadoff home run in the fifth inning, snapping a one all tie and make Quinn batting leadoff in the order today, homered in the 1st 1st inning. Homered again in the 8th 12 game hitting streak with nine multi hit games in his last seven hits, all for extra bases. Three runs six hits. He's seven and 12 Michael Lawrence and nails down his second straight save in 12 games. 13 and a third innings Lawrence and his 12 strikeouts and he has not given up or run a 0.0 E R. A And a real nice comeback for Lucas Sims gets the hold with a perfect eighth inning. Let's go out to the phones. Chris is an East Gate. Chris, What's happening? How are you doing today? Oh, fantastic. What a game. Oh, it was great. Yeah, It's been a great series. Yes. So much fun. It makes up for that Cubs series for sure. Yeah, Yeah. Losing two out of three. Yeah. Hey, I had something quick man. One thing Mike was stock as a swing. It's so ugly, but, man, Hey, in that for 26. Yeah, I like the guy really do But man, how many? How many times has he popped the ball up and then feel exactly right. And Jeff Carr, who does the locked on Reds podcast. He's a wlw and I heart media. Cincinnati producer He did You know, he did a lot of research 25% of the balls that Mike Moustakas hits are pop ups in the infield and made their said, Loop in the swing. Brutal Now, hands up, Get them hands up through the zone, You know, drop dropping his hands bad now that home run. Look, I go, Mike. That's right. And you know what? Just looking at the guy. You know to me, It's no knock against him. He looks a little bit overweight. Maybe a little bit out of shape. But that foot injury, you know, that is a brutal I don't know how to pronounce it plantar fasciitis, whatever itself and similar to that. That's a bad one. And you just don't know with the torque in the swing and the rotation and all that. How that foot injury is impacting his swing, and it's going to just take a while, and that's why he will play a game. He'll take some time off. Come back and David Bells just trying to Keep him and au Haniya Suarez, you know involved but yet, but yet get Jose barrio in there and we saw we saw Jose today. And, uh, yeah, There's still plenty of hope for this guy Got Oh, he'll be fine. I agree. I had one more thing, and it's a petty thing going back to Ha, very buyers. I hate to bring this up, but I've never had this answer. Quest was question answers and when he was going down first base and his teammate kept pushing him The first base. Yeah. Should not have been called interference at that time. Well, even though the ball game was basically over, But I think you know he had to touch first base. Yeah, and he was so preoccupied with sort of ripping off his jersey and right. I think he talked He tossed the bat. Put it this way toward Amir Garrett. Okay? Yeah, and he had to touch first base. I think that the umpires, you know, get gave him some leeway there because I really you really shouldn't touch a player. Big data, even on a home run, but they allow the third base coach to you know, little swat on the hand or whatever. So I've seen the guy from Pittsburgh. Miss Miss What? First base coach Brian Hayes. They called him out. Of course, that should be in house. But I always wanted to get that question Answer, And I appreciate it Well, and you remember? Yeah. Of the slugger for the For the Brewers. Here. Who you know who turns slightly left and then and then got caught. You know that got called out after after Jonathan India tagging? Yeah. Christian Christian Yelich. Yes. Absolutely. That was. Yeah. That was a little bit hell you want. Thank you hesitated. He didn't come back to first right away. And then when he just turned left, and even the first base coach was pointing. Oh, India was so smart to tap him on the, uh, the him Then he had a smile on his face doing it was me it nice. Hey, one other thing before I let you go. On that on that high grounder toward third base. Gosh, was it by by a marlin or no Nick Castano's cast the anuses high bounder to third base. Okay. The third base empire. Just kind of put his hands up. Almost just shoulder high. You know what those hands got to be straight up in your yelling foul? I'm sorry. You had an unsure thing. Yeah, I'm just a rogue baseball umpire. But, man, get it up there, You know, eight. Absolutely. You've got to sell that call. You got to sell it. He did not do a very good job of selling it. I'm sorry. Hey, but I'm happy with our red man. Let's keep rolling through Milwaukee. All right, Chris and Eastgate man, I'm loving it, all right? Okay, You bet. And before we go to a break, Tony and dry Ridge has been waiting forever. Tony, how are we doing today? You kind of expect that chick them anyway. Uh huh. This won't say who notes the Reds ex GM dick clams. I'll tell you why. When he crafted Nixon sale, he third basement, whereas was really starting to You know, this is going back 34 years ago show his OKed And then when we drafted India, a lot of people said Well now Really crab and Dick. We must make a comment. You take the best account available third Good enough fuel on the spot for Yeah. Yeah, and I am so glad that they made that decision. And that India hasn't been traded and and also touched the Bengal graph real quick well and before you do the same holds true for the NFL draft. If you've got Anthony Munoz Hey, draft, another offensive tackle. And you can you cannot draft for need. You've got to take the best player available and you're right. That best player. If he can play, you'll find a spot for him. There you go in and then my thing about the Bangles is our first round draft choice. Disappointingly fell forward. He can't catch in our second round draft choice so forth can't block. Unfortunately, the hope this ain't a Bengal jinx chick. Start, no agency it He was proving up to be with all the NFL pundits said that will be the dirt best draft picks they made. Because he looked outstanding. So far for everything you heard from practice and the Tampa big game and I wish him all the best to get well because The rumor is he may not see the field this year. But Osa Yes. Joseph O Sy. Wow. Like us like he was shot out of a cannon against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Wow. And with the Minister, he didn't shock. Anybody sacked the best quarterback products every lift. He sacked the goat brother and yeah, yeah, they have signed no expense. For you know who's been in the league? What, five years? He's got some experience. He started at Ohio State, then transferred to eastern Kentucky. So I'm hoping he can make the club and provide a pass rush. What about Billy Price? This is gonna be the year he finally gets it. I don't know. Uh, Frank Polic..

Good morning to you, Rory and what we've seen over the past couple of days, Maura. And more information come to light about this theory that the coronavirus leaked from a Chinese lamb right there in Wuhan. Tell us about these latest details that have A lot of people given this theory a second look right, So a couple things just came together. Dr. Fauci was interviewed by some fact finders, one of those groups that it's like Snopes, you know, they go through and find out what's real and what's not well. He told them that he still thinks it is highly likely. That's a quote highly likely that this Corona virus was natural. It developed naturally, but he has not ruled out the possibility it was developed in that Chinese laboratory in Wuhan. He says that Used to be a full open independent investigation without interference from the Chinese government underlined in order to get to the bottom of this now add that to The Wall Street Journal in its recent reporting that it obtained the U. S intelligence information that found three researchers at that Wuhan Institute became sick enough in November of 2019 to go to the hospital. Now that's almost two full months before China acknowledges. At the Corona virus even existed. Yeah. I mean, when you've got one of those kinds of centers, Murali gee centers right there in Wuhan, and that's the likely origin of this pandemic. I don't know. Common sense would tell you may be better than going on. Isn't that a chicken and egg scenario in that they put the virus. They put the lab there because all the viruses were coming from there. Could be. Yeah, I think one of the problems is what What's gotten kind of lump together is whether or not this virus was created in the lab. Like, you know, a kind of a man made creation or if just the work they were doing in the lab led to the jump of the virus from whatever you know animals, bats that they were working with to the humans who were working there in the lab that seems like the more Or likely scenario if it were to have come from the lab, But it sounds like that's what investigators are looking into. Right. And Dr Fauci is saying, you know, to the Chinese government. Get your nose out of this, You know, let the scientists go in there and do fact based research. Stop trying to steer the direction of this investigation. That's what they did. With that report. The W. H O released back in February. It was almost laughed out immediately because the Chinese government really restricted anything that the W H o scientists could look That's so there's really no respect for that report and found, she says. Look, it's highly likely this just develop naturally. But he can't rule out the possibility it was from this lab. Whether accidental or intentional, obviously can't say now, but you know again, highly likely he thinks it happened in nature. Interesting. I mean, I don't know if we're ever going to know where this thing you know, I don't know how at this point, you track it back. I mean, at least we do know more information. Now we're learning about these individuals who are sick who worked in the lab. But I don't know if they're ever gonna be able to have a definitive answer as to whether or not it came from the lab the way wherever, By the time we find out will be worried about covert 24. So we'll be on to the next one. It's probably end up in some staff report. You know, six years from now, and we're all gonna say game from a lab in Wuhan. No surprise. W undiscovered, Say face national correspondent Rory O'Neil. You can follow him on Twitter at Radio Rory. Rory. Appreciate time this morning. We'll talk tomorrow. Thanks, Fran. Many. What do you think? You think? You think that lab had anything to do with it? Not necessarily intentional, Not like they were trying to create some virus to spread across the world. But, Justin, you know the precautions weren't taken and I think they're way too many coincidences. Yeah. I also think this is a perfect example of how the media has let us down the last 4.5 to 5 years because when Republicans some of them, the president even eventually was talking about this very thing. They were laughed off initially. Yeah, I mean, it's it's that Malcolm's razor. I mean, you're right, come on, except for college and to do right there, and they're doing this kind of work, um, but but really interesting. New reporting for The Wall Street Journal on All of this is kind of raising this question once again, all right, In terms of our local teams, what's going on What happened yesterday? Well, what happened last night? What's happening tonight? Sandy Alcantara and I'll just a two run homer over eight innings, but the Marlins couldn't muster any offense. "You know, and that's not going to do it. That's not gonna help. So I would not say it's a Phillies divisional lose. I would say it's still a Braves that is still a division that from top to bottom. The Marlins they're gonna be Pesto everyone because they got some of the most insane pitching. You know, young pitching that you're gonna you're gonna find with Sandy Alcantara and Pablo Lopez and sixties Sanchez is down in the you know, trying to get healthy again. But then you got you know the Rogers kid, The lefty. He's nasty. That's a team it is. It's scary. They're the wild card. They can hit enough. You're like, poof. They could pick it. You know, defensively, they could pick it so To me to say like it is the Phillies divisional lose. I can't back it up, You know, because you've got the brains have done it three years in a row. It's funny when we were in the midst of the 60 game season, everybody said Like well kind of write this off like it'll be a season that sort of stands on its own, like You don't want to discredit any M V P and whatnot. But, you know, we look at guys like Crawford. We say, Highest O. P s in his career, but it was in a 60 game season. We say Phillies traditional or like a historically bad bullpen, but it was in a 60 game season. So I wonder for you know, you've already mentioned a couple of times here. It's early this season. It's really tough to tell. Who's for real, maybe who's a pretender? And how all that shakes out from a player's perspective like you're now in the broadcast booth. You've done the sports talk radio thing like we're doing now, when new players really start to set a little like okay, I shouldn't be freaking out about this. It's a small sample size and Clinton guys in front of ST the Big League level, but how hard is it to keep it in perspective this early into a season? There's a couple things like, if you're on a team that, you know, you have to get off to a great start right like it is just apparent that there's teams ahead of you that If you want to get to him, you can't fall that far behind that first month is such a depressant. Right? You're you're hoping for these good numbers. He was crazy as I always take the first month. It's not a throwaway thing, but at the end of it, you could look back and be like, Oh, I got a ways to go right. Or you could be like, all right. I'm in a good place. I think that first month marker is a great tell For where you're at. As it starts to heat up around the country and everything it could start to level out and all the you know the positive side of hitting. And you know, even the defensive side. I think that's the biggest one that we don't talk about enough. Is defensively like in the cold. How bad it is right? Because you know pitchers haven't evolved. The field is trying to throw the ball cross. Not always fun. It feels like a cue ball like half, you know, most of time, so So if that's going well for a guy like being in the field, picking at being able through across doing there your conference starting get higher like it picks up on the offensive side to vice versa goes. If it's going off instantly, it's gonna go defensively. So once you get in about I will say may 15th to me is the mark where you're totally like Oh, or all right. I'm good, but that first month you have you know exactly like that, after you know, may 1st you're going, OK? I know where I'm at. I need to do this. And this May 15 2 weeks later. You're like, OK, this has got to get going. You know, as a franchise looking at where your team is you as an individual player. I think that's the mark. Remember that for the Tigers, Chris Shelton that April he had hit with 15 homers the month of April or some. Anybody could do that in April. It's what happened exactly. I think by May 15th we were done with him were like this guy. You know, it's it's the truth. It's like, Look, we all fall victim to it. Even last year. It's just weird. How We generalize so many things and like you take away things from, you know the 60 game season. I get the Dodger whole whole thing, but let's be honest here. They're the best team in the league they might have wanted anyway. It's just an easy thing to say. Yeah, it's an easy thing to say. But I mean, you, you watch that series against the Padres and you're like I do want 100 60 to those games. Because the amount of talent that's on the field at all times. Whether it's the pitching side, the offense the defense, it's been nuts. And the place had been made. And then you're looking at the Dodgers. You're going Luke Railly and Zach McKinstry there, Your left and right field. There is no one knows about but they're raking because they're damn good ballplayers. We've talked about a lot. They don't have depth. They have stupid quality depth, like they're bringing dudes, and they're not like placeholders. You got guys that are going to come in and do damage for you. You're going like Edwin Rios, Who's You know, should be a third basement. Had Justin Turner left. Well, he's off the bench still. You're going. How do you beat them? Yeah, I hope they like you know, made a few mistakes to take advantage of them and I think here, Kaz Mer's said. It's like when you play the Dodgers. You better be ready for every pitch because that one pitch might be the difference in it. That pitch. They might make that little mistake that you have take advantage of. You're not focused. Guess what? That opportunity you know, leaves you so I think those are all good points. Yeah, The West is extremely top heavy. But you're right that the depth is there, but just something for Giants fans to pay attention to have exact McKinstry is a guy Farhaan found. I think he was the guy who picked him up or drafted him in the sixth round or something. So just sort of all the way out from Central Michigan, right? He's a Joe Staley guy as you central Michigan kid. I don't know. I think he is. Yeah, I want to ask if you talk to any players this season about a lot of the rule changes we're seeing in the minor leagues and some of that stuff we did have to get into that. But I wonder about the baseball. They talked about how they were going to change sort of the The core of the baseball we had, You know, Sarasa. I'm talking about how baseball doesn't have a like a consistent way to make the baseballs like we were joking. We put a man on the moon and we split the atom and all this stuff, but we can't make every single baseball feel the exact same is the baseball before. Have you talked to any guys about the core of the ball on whether or not it feels different? Like I'm seeing like Giancarlo Stanton? I'm seeing Fernanda to teach junior hit like 450 ft home runs. Shohei Otani is not having any problem with it. Just the ball feel different coming off the battery out of guys hands now. I mean, they say, like a little bit..

So we all do we all are bracing for a curveball. You really did throw a curveball. Right yes. You can't hear really good changing speeds you're crafty veteran pitcher. So. Here's what we've got happening in marlins braves this year he starts and a Kunia hits a ball right I've I've just never baseball so funny now in terms of how many strikeouts and how many home runs you get like it's just amusing the shifts everything is distorted out there. All this shift is the worst part I hated bought raise Yankees yesterday there were thirteen hits, twenty four strikeouts. The Yankees struck out eighteen times of those thirteen heads five of them were home runs. Stanton is doing nothing. To. A home run that's God's described and thought he was being factual as six hundred and six feet. That was s VP said it was still in his stuff. So okay. So you're you can't do anything original. Even I was amazed at six hundred and six eight I mean as VP and standards Dave our way six, hundred, six feet. A Kunia though felt like he had his to the opposite field as a leadoff man about six hundred and six feet to start that series, and then soon thereafter they plunk dim although it was the second pitch at Bat. It didn't feel like a playoff game. You would do that on purpose but can you thought it was on purpose? He says, they hit me because they can't get me out and so. Help me out here was Sandy Alcantara last name billy because I always get it wrong because it's got four as in it, and I never know how Latin name is Americanized, can you help me with his name? Please it Sandia Contra are. All right. So here he is talking about a Kunia If, he come into me get him. You know those might wild. If you here ready to fight I'm ready to fight to the motto. and he's he's a big man like he throws very hard and he just he is large and substantive, and so here's Don Mattingly talking about the idea that Cooney after again, hitting a ball to right center field opposite field a leadoff man has never had that kind of home run power and now every team in the sport has leadoff man who can do that. So here's Don mattingly talking about him being hit a few innings later I knew he didn't hit him on purpose you know with the Kunia he's a guy you got it. You can't just lay the bought over the plate. And obviously, that I looked at it was it was a good ways in but he's trying to run the ball off the plate near or rent it started on a plate runoff. And got got further out than what he wanted. So are further in than what he? And now we're GONNA go to sound of Brian Snicker because bills get a few words for this Guy Billy's already done with this guy, this poor Atlanta braves hapless Atlanta braves manager has no chance against the wrath of billy hit a long home and got hit with a ninety seven I mean it's it's my reaction one. Good. So you know I, it was unfortunate I'm sure he will I guarantee the kid one trying to hitting but you know in that situation I think. If you'RE GONNA go in you better, you gotTA. Make sure if you go in, you don't hit him I mean and Comes to a point where you keep digging that kid that you're you know that mill, the plates been taken away. So You know it was just. Tapping into much to that boy. Like I say you gotta be careful going in after somebody hits a homer because you might hit them and you know and. It's just you know you better be good going in and and not hitting them after homer. Billy Megan the hour skeptical face. What do you have for our man sniffs? It wasn't on purpose and by the way wise about Ronaldo Kunia junior spiked. Miguel row has its second base on. There was like two feet off drive the tank amount close. please. Enough of this guy tough guy he wants to fight he's a crybaby everybody knows he's a crybaby what happened after he got hit he struck out twice got an infield single. He did nothing did nothing because he's a crybaby and sneaker by the way what an embarrassment is family the way he was behaving on that field yesterday at sixty plus years old I'm sure he was going around having a temper Tantrum I. don't even know what kind of organization condones that there was an HR department he should be suspended for his behavior. Around temper tantrums. True he's so right about that. In one other workplace are you allowed to? Like that without it being sent up to human resources say we've got a problem with ned in accounting. Imagine if someone did that in the Middle Office, just started running around all huffing and puffing yelling and I'm sure you know he had his mask on but still I'm sure he was yelling. Waving his arms around and doing this and that. And then what happens when you're talking like? Well, it wasn't on purpose like, well, what was this? What were this? Free to walk out right after it happened, you give it a thumbs up. It's fine. It's okay. It's okay to worry about it's fine. Let's just keep Blake baseball and then Brian's at Aurora..

"In the Great City of Chicago. He's funny Cap Jr Miller Zuckerman is your morning team. And Jesse Rogers will be your sideline reporter for the Chicago Cubs and Kyle Hendricks hosting the Miami Marlins and Sandy Alcantara. And he joins us right now on ESPN 1000. Good morning, fellas. One of the best days in baseball history. Eight playoff games. I'm really excited about the Cubs and Marlins. What's going on? Yeah. You know what's going on? You know, once again, your guy Interrupting my socks. Game my socks. Perfect game. My stocks. No. Enter your guy lost Ella like a proud Papa. You're so happy your guy the little flea atop the lineup for the A's breaking up a perfect game. A great outing for Giolito. Well, I've been saying it since 2015 or six. The guy can hit the guy Can. I was about to tweet out when he came up that time. This is the guy Giolito has to get by. This is the guy and I was serious about it. He just gives you good it back, but they still won the games. So I got my guy to get a hit and your team won the game. Which is nice. So as you're watching this Cubs season unfold And they're struggling with Pittsburgh. Then I got to go to the White Sox and right the ship and Faison ship of the pea and find a way. To take two of three but two score 25 runs in the Siri's. Now they've lined it up for the guy who's awesome at home, especially Kyle Hendricks. Game one Yu Darvish game, too. Candy kept today's game. Yeah, I'm not completely convinced the offenses back. I can't imagine you guys are as well. You can't build up three years of doubt and get rid of it in one weekend against the White Sox team that was slumping at the time, just like the White Sox were hot, and the Cubs are slumping when the Sox played at Wrigley. Sometimes those things matter what Where is your team? In that moment? The Cubs Sox were not very good over the weekend. They righted the ship yesterday, so I'm not completely convinced. And I know diehard Cubs fans will agree with this. We haven't always seen the cubs in a situation where they're facing a picture or two. They don't know a lot about. Well haven't seen a lot of and they don't give you that performance that you're looking for. So I do handicapped asshole. Siri's especially starting night is a low scoring one. I don't think that's out of the You know, I'm going out on a limb on that one. I love the fact that Hendrix is starting at that you could have gone either way. There's pros and cons either way. I do think that perhaps the young Marlins might be a little anxious right their first playoff game, and if that's the case you do want a guy like Hendrix on the mound. I think I could also make a case for Darvish. Game one. For other reasons. I do see a low scoring game. I do see a decent match up against what Al Contra throws. He's not a curveball change of guy, which is the thing that really kills the Cubs. He's a sinker guy, their best against fastballs. You saw what they did the other day. The three home runs off of pitches 97 or above. He's a sinker guy. So it's somewhere in between, you know, hard throwing guy and in a full change of curveball guy, which would really flummoxed the Cubs, so I do think it's going to blow scoring. I'm not convinced the Cubs offenses back. But with Hendricks on the mound, you could win one. Nothing. Just talk about the even flow of Yu Darvish his season. You know, this is a guy that I was even sure if he was interested in playing baseball in 2020 to the point where he's a Cy Young candidate. What do your thoughts on Darvish this season? From the beginning to where we are right now yet really has been an evolution since he became a cup Really? And I think it took time. Time to mess with the Cubs pitching infrastructure. Mike Brazil on those guys. It took time for mentally to get over the world. Siri's mentally to feel healthy and physically to feel healthy. And also to be himself wrote about that conversation he had in the dugout one day last year. Where yelled at Tommy. How did I want to work slower? Don't tell me to work faster. I work better when I work slower. So all that came together in the last 12 months starting last year, Actually, you know, obviously second half of last year. And that's what you saw. Now. The last three starts weren't as good as the previous eight or whatever, but he was on a different plane back then, so there's still very good. I do think that you have to worry about the pitch count getting up with him. That's the one thing I thought maybe they'd start him in Game one. Of the two pictures. If you have to worry about pitch count, it's Darvish. And if you if he gets to 105 innings, you're going to your bullpen. Well, if that happens in Game two, and you need a game three with Jon Lester, you're more likely to need your bullpen in those two days. Then with Hendricks, I thought maybe splitting that up. Putting Hendricks is, too might make sense. But that's you know, overthinking it, potentially A job and he's been so good in the strike zone. That's the thing he doesn't need guys to chase. It reminds me of Giolito. They're completely different pictures, but they can get guys out in the strike zone. That's one ace does. Hendricks can do that. But you also see a lot of Chase started Hendricks and that's why it anybody else tell you that you know Darwish is stuff is is the elite of the elite because he can get guys out in the strike zone. So that's the evolution I've seen. I'll take his time bill through all those pitches, and now mentally he's over a lot of the homes that he had before. So as you look at a guy like Sandy Alcantar, he's a right hander. He throw. He's got a good singer. He's got good velocity. He was three and two with an E R a of 37 starts this year. He's a very, very talented young pitcher. I think he's only 20 just turned 25, so he's got his best days ahead of him. What is the cubslineup in your opinion today? Well, I think you know, I'm trying to think who the D h is going to be. That was the one thing I was thinking about last night. I mean, Maybin's played well a little bit in his time. I think Schwarber is going to be out left. We've seen him out there all year..

"Okay, so let's go to AA the Mets tomorrow with grog for Friday Diagram and Soroka and then that's her minus 1 36 What? As far as what I'm seeing what a tough pitching matchup because Roka last year if you remember was absolutely dominant on the road and at home is when he had is where he had the issues. He was. He was hittable Att home, but not on the road. But how do you Bet against the ground, trying to become the first guy to win three straight Cy Young Awards and Randy Johnson 1999 to 2002. I think you have to take the Graham here I is, is just he's just too good to bet against him. Again and at home, you know more familiar with that particular mounds. So the Mets at home for that game, minus 1 36 or you're going to say, but you're not betting it, but you would lean to Graham. I would lean to Graham. Absolutely. All right, minus 1 36 It's the best I see. Let's goto see winds. Detroit Tigers now. Boyd was who I saw initially listed. I'm looking now and it's saying undecided. One site says Ah, Boyd, Sonny Gray for Cincinnati and Sonny Gray minus 1 70 ones. The best line that I see. Eight to total I would absolutely take Sonny Gray on the run line here. I think they will destroy the Tigers. Sonny Gray's has has rediscovered himself in Cincinnati and that lineup in since a constrict flat out mash. They will win by more than two runs. There's almost no doubt in my mind. All right. See, win. Of course. I know. It is only exhibition. They did play the radio the other day. They got a five spot hit three home runs in the second inning and and see win was tweeting and and messenger. You know, they lose the game. Yeah, they wasted all those runs. See when incredible, All right, But you're Blue Jays your long shot sleeper in the American League against those Tampa Bay Rays, who you like to be a wild card out of the A L East and in that game for Tampa Bay, it'll be Charlie Morton. Your guy Ryu from the Dodgers transitioning over to Toronto, and he will make the opening start for the Blue Jays and the Rays of minus 1 52 total of seven. I would lean towards the under in this game, and I think you have to take the Rays here because they're the better team, but it will be interesting to see how 100 pitches in a new environment. They're at the Trop, right? Yes. Go there. So still pictures Park Marlins and fills again. I'm going in rotation, Water Marlins and fills and for Philadelphia. We've got there. No goal against Sandy Alcantara for Miami and right now 1 87 Is what Philly and Knoller favored. 8.5 the total. I love the Phillies in this spot. I think that they're in great shape. I would've. I was surprised that Morones didn't go with Caleb Smith to start. I think they're very high on Sandy Alcantara, though, But Granola is an absolute study had a little rough year. Last year, he started writing the ship at the end of the season. I like no AA lot go with the Phillies here. Okay, So you lay in the 1 87? Yeah, I am. Because I don't trust the Philly bullpen completely. And I can see them having a 5 to 2 lead and giving up a two run shot in the bottom of the ninth and winning 5 to 4. All right, Great. Now that you Ah, you said that you know, not in the bottom of the night because they're at home top of the ninth. There you go. All right, so Royals and Casey at Cleveland, Kansas City going to go with Danny Duffy? Shane Bieber on the hill for the tribe tribe at home with Bieber minus 205 is the low that I see. 8.5 is the total against the Royals. I was gonna start seeing a Justin Bieber song I realize is probably a better idea not to I'll take the Indian's mine is 1.5 in this game. I have no comment. Fish. All right. So you get you What you going to do on that one? Your later running now lay the runner half of the Indians to survive. There's just no money there. There's no money to be made there. Alright, run and 1/2 there and be very Sue's minus two of five straight up, Uh, brewers and cubs at Wrigley Cubbies. We see where we're at their cubbies are Kyle Hendricks against Brandon Woodruff for Milwaukee and that game right there. The Cubbies minus 1 23 8.5 The total from regular I like the Brewers is a dog here. That's one of my favorite dogs in this and for this for the opening day, I'll take the Brewers all day and be very happy with it. All right. Well, I'm not fine. And the Cubs this here it all all right, well, I already told Marjorie Cubs are gonna win the division and Christie still in Wisconsin, the games in Chicago so she won't know. So I'm going to say that the Cubs were to play their Hendricks will roll gives up. That's a fiveone Cubs win there. Minus 1 23 We're laying that to the fish. No problem. All right, then we've got Baltimore. Now Means was supposed to go. But he's not going now. He's scratched. So right now, I'm not sure if they know who's going yet. They did. They did. Who's your number? Two guy? Alex Cobb was their number two guy. I'm trying to remember if that was the name that I saw. Regardless, The Red Sox are huge favorites in the game with Nathan Eovaldi going Tommy Malone, Tommy Malone, and that's exactly who it is He. Ironically, he's there. He's not there. Number two starter Malone is more like their faith. Start over. They haven't going there in that game. He's a little German. So Tommy Malone, former Oakland A. And wherever else Minnesota twin. He's been all over the place. All right, so there you go, so I would still think that the line's going to be close to Right now. It's got the Red Sox minus 2 17 Probably be a little higher because that was with means listed. And as much as I don't like the Red Sox. I would still take him in this game. Because the Orioles are the worst team in baseball. So would you lay to 20? I would let no, I'd lay the run and 1/2. All right, so you're gonna lay with the evolving minus the 1.5. All right, Then we've got the Rockies and in Texas. I see those two teams. I just think of runs being scored. Lance Lynn will be pitching for Texas in Arlington and for Colorado. I believe it'll be John Gray. But let me just confirm that and know it's more kez Herman Moore case is going to go for Colorado. So that right there has Lin minus 1 25 and a total of 9.5..
