"Policy guidelines across several groundbreaking studies. Dr angelica hugs colleagues have shown that not all intoxicated. Individuals are unreliable witnesses. They highlight individuals of low to moderate alcohol. Consumption are often not impaired in their recall of events under no more likely to disclose transgressions than sober individuals. This suggests that individuals who are low to moderately intoxicated can be a reliable source of information and criminal investigations. These findings are particularly important given the memories deteriorate over time so wearing a witness to sober up may cost valuable information however legal officers should be cautious with highly intoxicated. Witnesses as their memory might be compromised by alcohol. The research team also emphasizes that no one's memory is perfect on both sober on intoxicated. Witnesses con mesh remember. Events eyewitness testimony should therefore always be supported by other evidence. The research conducted by. Dr hogson colleagues has real world implications for policing. Their research showed that police often altered their methods of investigative interviewing when an individual is intoxicated. But that they do not have any formal policy guidelines to follow for this. The rule of law should ensure for an equal treatment of all criminal suspects otherwise. The justice system is compromised. The research team has also shown the giving police formal information on when to interview intoxicated. Witnesses has a positive impact on police. Decisions concerning when to conduct interviews. This emphasizes the importance of the development of formal guidelines for investigative interviewing of intoxicated individuals. These are now underway in sweden at least for intoxicated witnesses and the future policy guidelines for intoxicated. Suspects would also be important to develop. But i more scientific studies need to be carried out concerning high. Alcohol affects the cognitive abilities of criminal suspects. Doctor hogson sandon colleagues suggested more research is needed in this new unimportant fade une close. Collaboration between researchers in legal officers is required in order to disseminate scientific findings to organizations such as the police. That's all for this episode. Thanks for listening on. And if you can afford diamond tans okay The five and a half furlong maiden special for phillies and mayors and had the one. Mto from our friend. Al gold and the goddess of snakes. And not only does she stay in the main track. Also making a seasonal debut. Seth and she may be a much better philly now than she was last year too. So there's that positive. Matt scott sandon see down on the rail Chat brown stays in with crowding out. I thought let them eat cake. was okay On the main track off the turf scenario. I had crowding out on top on terp. I'm going to stay on the dirt When chad elect to stay. I was kinda pay attention. I think the main track works monmouth. We're okay so i went there And then i took a little pop with venus also who has some dirt form and a couple of the races underneath there. Okay so i thought it a little bit of a price. And and i think the price will hold up even with the surface which i think the source you know maybe not the thirty two one with some scratches and whatnot. But i think you'll get some value there. And as i say with some dirt or my thought that could be interesting. And then i use the mt l. and i originally wasn't that thrilled and again you know handicapped this a couple of days ago but now as we're closer than it is on the main track. I kind of agree with you that they debuted this one in a stakes race. Last year says there was incompetence as a two year old. Didn't live up to that but now comes back as a three year. Old and the workouts are pretty. Good so i. I would expect an approval for the goddess of snakes and they get the service they want so yeah. I think i'm probably tweet deepen here. Seven to nine floor and the notable part of this group. There's not necessarily obvious speed and considering that the that the track was sealed. Seth last night Undoubtedly it anticipation of the weather. There's a real chance. I mean they're calling it muddy to start the day and we'll you know this is mid card so we don't know how much more rain i mean. This is a weird rain. It's not like these are thunderstorms i. "I've gone with france to andrew. I tink i've gone with francis a whole. I mean the only really played the football. They are capable of doing for forty five minutes in this tournament. And that was against Switzerland it was exhilarating but like a brief brief candle Turkey were horrendous. It's almost much more from them. And the dutch were as dear. Telegraph said throwing sandon or is also uefa. Forget the final for a second. Generally across this tournament the constant pandering to the governments in hungary in azerbaijan to the point where they had to distort and twist their own message on a gb t equality was just disappointed. You know if we said this before you're not have been things if you say you're four equality your four inclusion and then you just waiver on it because you wanna keep Some autocrat happy. The generally speaking i would say the the overall Format of this tournament was also a disappointment. I mean not even necessarily the twenty four team format. I i mean the idea of there. Being games played across the entire continent numb. I thought created a little bit of imbalance in terms of certain teams getting certain advantages You know the difficulty for fans to To be a part of it because of the weather straight. Yeah i absolutely i felt they got absolutely screwed by the by the by the system and i think safran has said he he personally would not want. I think he was speaking in in the royal. We that you wear for wouldn't go back to this. This format again. Yeah i mean this was supposed to be a one off right. This was supposed to be for the sixty year anniversary. They wanted like they had this ideal. All of your. I mean i don't know. But yeah i would say it. Didn't it didn't land the way that maybe they had hoped it would all right. Who stock rose the most. I have a few i've got. I've got a few here as well do you want. Do you wanna go first. Yes sure i mean. I'll go with my my most obvious one i. I don't know maybe. Italian fans will disagree and say his stock was already high. But i just. I just come out of this. Viewing federico as differently than i did coming in. I always knew he was a good player. Obviously he's adventists. But now i kind of him as a world elite and. I didn't necessarily do that before so for me. It's it's kind of simple like he kind of really upped himself up into the next ashkelon of of really talented young players So him for one The other one somewhat quickly here because we've talked a lot about him pedri again just a young player of the tournament for me for i think officially to at just eighteen years old to be playing and by the way. Jj so he played all that time for barcelona during the season then he came to this tournament and played like a billion minutes and his summer is not over. he's he's going to be playing in the olympics for spain. This is like yeah. But but meanwhile like weston mckennie like the thought of of appeals. Second rain like setting foot in the us for the gold cup is just not like it's impossible again. I get it. I'm not criticizing bear halter. Just funny that like patriot could just never stopped playing. Like guys who played in one game for the concha captioning nations league. It's like no that's it. Shut him down. But like i saw a what accord from louis c. k. about pedri. It really sums it up. This is from his own manager says what patriots done in these euros. I have never seen with an eighteen year old. not from anyone in the euro's world cups olympic games. It's something away from all logic. That's a nice thing to say to have your manager. Say about you so proud patriot. He's he's going to be just a brilliant brilliant player. I agree i think In my stock rising. I have spin zola for his early performances. And your stock always rises in your absence. Never forget that I talk variety was excellent. Kiiza and patriot have included. I think lewis enrique as a manager. His stock has gone through the roof. yeah recall is to is through the roof strong. It's not a good call because spain. We all thought that spain could only do one thing. And i think we came out of this tournament not feeling that way about them that they fun to watch that they were really like an added bonus to this tournament. Yet roberto mancini. Obviously i think hole. We're talking about louis. Enrica st changing style spans. Dna still pretty solid in the possession. Game roberto mancini to do what he did with an international team. And i know they couldn't always play like that but who does in the nocco tournament of a knockout stages of tournament even even the great brazilian teams didn't always come up and play with the same kind of Spirit as they had group stages mancini for me masterful masterful performance from him span. Imports goes twenty thirty world cup. Bid for reasons. As i've already said i think luke shawl constantly ramming it down the throat of joe's marine. You know just wonderful performance. I mean as good as united fans will tell you is being for them any has to do it on this kind of stage into score a goal in the semifinal was like dotson other thing for me for twenty minutes. Garrett's okay so show giving de lorenzo such a tough time and then decided not to keep doing it. Just madness to me. I thought iron ramsey had a great tournament is well. I enjoyed his goal against turkey. As much as i've enjoyed anything I think italian football stock has risen under. This is a country who despite what people will tell you with grateful pulling nation. Well it's twelve game is in serious bother. I believe and it's not in decline but it is in bother even when you see inter-milan top team rather internacional early as they want to be called You know top team like this struggling hugely financially and the whole tobacco there who was going to buy the tv deal spitting writes all of that. I think this was a grit summer for italian football. That their national team could could embody such positivity and denmark as a country the way it came together for this summer the football they played in the wake of you know unfathomable trauma watching team it. Pass away on the field only firm to come back to life Amazing demer provided so many amazing moments in this tournament. And that's my stock risen. Had one other one which is an interesting one just like i. It's a player. We talked about five years ago and then didn't and now five years later. I thought renato sanchez at portugal had a really strong as as we saw him win. This competition as child there were such huge hopes for him and then he is about with byron. Went to swazi. Didn't work and then he kind of disappeared except not really because he's been lille where he was a big part of their title-winning campaign season. And now you know the these euros almost like a rebirth for his public profile. So see what happens. There's already talked. There's already talk about liverpool. Being interested in tottenham being interested in them so we'll see what happens but he was. He was really fun to watch for portugal avenue. It needs to happen now for him as he's Just twenty three maj doing all that in your career. Twenty-three right and like still have people consider your disappointment. Doesn't seem fair but.

"Listen and share experience kristin hansen. Thank you for joining us and finance. Do you have any issues that devoid you that you would like to discuss as a matter of any great urgency. We do actually of wearing shorts at the office or even some food and food topics moved off the shorts thing quickly there fernando for the certain knowledge about to be outvoted two to one but anyway you are listening to the daily Still with me as you have just heard marcus and fernando augusta per sheku and all this week on the daily. We have been contemplating the g. Seven summit which is now underway in cornwall and has not degenerated into an all in chair-throwing fisticuffs as we go to air. One of the subjects of any such wingding is the exchange of gifts among the leaders. Us president joe biden making his first overseas trip as leader of the free seems to have made a genuine effort re his present to the host uk. Prime minister boris johnson. A very swish bicycle and helmet decorated in red white and blue livery extolling the special relationship in return. Johnson gave biden a framed. Photo of a mural of frederick douglass though the photo does seem and i am not making this up to have been downloaded from douglas's wikipedia page. The uk is apparently that broke. I did want to ask you both each intern I you. Marcus would give a foreign leader visiting finland other than of course a gruff handshake. I know it really depends on the leader in question by guests. I have to. I have to go for the basics. I have to go to the cliche. I would give probably finished design or maybe something you know feeling. He's doing a lot of text off thousand. Maybe a gap chet. Maybe a computer game because we are doing them and was well. What about that. Salted licorice always topping. Because that that genuinely is amazing i know. But it's it's a very divisive for example fernando. I actually have to tell the story to you once. Because i brought those candies over here to london i gave one to fernando and front is always very polite smile sent and claims to enjoy those things. But i left the room for a second when i came back. Fernando was by the been trying to get out from his mouth about these things. It does demonstrate that you know these. These things are remind field fernando in the frankly unlikely event that you ever did find yourself as president of brazil there. You still a relatively young man. What what would you distribute among foreign leaders visiting. Especially if i want a good business deal to myself into my country will definitely give a chair designed by brazilian architect designer. Said you. who'd regencies medo jakarta. Would i generally think very chic piece. I mean it's very expensive. Actually these days if you want to buy a vintage one so i think they'll be very lucky if they get one from me. Has anybody here ever been given anything by a foreign leader. I was telling markers that. I've been promised something that didn't really arrive. The address when interviewed a former president dilma rousseff. She said was mentioned quite a few books during the interview. I don't remember the names of the books. Which said don't you worry. Just give your address to my assistant sandon to you. It's i'm still waiting. Dilma i i haven't got anything from any foreign leaders have to say about if if vladimir putin of russia is good as something. He's very good and giving presents. Finland's president solely nina is a couple of years ago. Got a delivery from him and we had all had documents a former finnish. President monitor hey moves who is also wore hero. Some documents fallen from the russian archives. That finland did not know off and the finnish president those for his seventieth birthday present. That is a cool present. I have an autographed copy of a book of the desk doodles of albanian. Prime minister edi rama. Do you wanna tell us the story about how you got. I was interviewing him for monocle. Magazine and he gave it to me. As i left his office he he is an by trade before he went into politics. And he's on the blotting paper on his desk. He draws in the margins. These lovely sort of whirling colorful doodles and some incredibly pulse. Flash german publisher had package the moral up into a very nice book Which he signed a copy on gave me. I mean that's very thoughtful. I find i. Also i will give him a tote bag full of stuff by san marino's prime minister who is also the postman i. He's not he's not yours is what you've been guessing. I basically do. The i mean it is. It is just a tote bag in a book. it's not it's not anything terrifically exciting anyway. I'm i'm getting wind up. Justice from inside the production booth and probably quite reasonably telling us that we should move along to the veritable feast of football commencing. This weekend indeed later tonight wing. Italy host turkey in rome the european football championships and the copa america will be happening at the same time. Which means that two continents will be hosting tournaments of national teams hoping not merely to accel on the field but to create a good impression of it that being the case we are now going to direct our attention. To whom in only the competition has the best kit now. Obviously i'm out of this in terms of looking at my own country because unlike for example the eurovision song contest strategy has not figured out how to get ourselves invited to either. The copa america will the european football championships. You're old just scared financier. Let's start with you and let's start with brazil. Who's i mean. Everybody knows brazil's kit. Brazil are always extremely smart turned out But as we have discussed a few times just in the office The kit has changed. Meaning for some brazilians and i should furnish a bit of backdrop. Here by telling list is one of the absolute joys of working in this building during a world cup. Is that finance though. I am not making this up. Does turn up for work wearing not merely the brazil shirt but the shorts and socks the full kit. But the said thing andrew that. I'm not sure if i'll be able to do that in the next world cup because you're very right. It's so quickly that it became a before it was a source of pride. But now if i wear that might be confused with a bolsonaro supporter. One day in the airport and some follow was wearing yellow. Not even the national kit and woman looked at me. Smiling said bolsonaro and then i didn't know what to do i was like oh my god. I'm action support..

White House 'will not co-operate with impeachment inquiry'

"Big news today is that the White House has taken its fight with Congress to the next level initially sending word that it will not participate in any aspect of the impeachment prob- yeah which is crazy like trump card just declined to participate like this is not the Vietnam War and this new tactic this new tactic through everything for a loop because you see today was meant to be the big day when Congress would testimony from Gordon Sunland Ambassador to the U. and Jeff stunt double but just before the C. Span cameras started rolling the White House pulled the doc we're following breaking news this morning it's moving quickly the White House blocking e you embassador Gordon Sunland from testifying to Congress just minutes before he was supposed to appear on Capitol Hill who sets five behind closed doors as part of an ongoing impeachment inquiry into President Trump specifically about his interactions with Ukraine Democratic House intelligence chairman calling the move to keep Sunlen from speaking to lawmakers quote strong evidence of obstruction wow donald trump's white house blocked an ambassador from testifying to Congress what a completely innocent thing to do trump was probably just scared that that ambassador would exonerate him too much now I gotta maintain my bad boy image run these streets so at the president's behest sunland pulled out of this impeachment hearing which is a big deal because although many people haven't heard of Gordon Sandon it appears that everything trump wants it from Ukraine went through him there's almost no one who was more involved in pushing the president's priorities in Ukraine then Gordon Sunland even before president trump spoke to the president of Ukraine in Sunland the US ambassador to the EU had been pushing the Ukrainians to commit to investigations Mr Trump wanted the ambassador to the EU. Gordon Zahn land worked behind the scenes to help carry out trump's wishes in Ukraine a country that isn't even in the EU okay that's your first red flag right there trump's ambassador to the E U was getting involved with the country that isn't in the EU that's not his jurisdiction that would be like Santa doing truth varies job that's not cool yeah because then it's just a creepy old man standing over your kids bed yeah it'd be like what are you doing we'll hold nothing word I'm just I'm just in your kids to eat okay now that I say loud sounds weird the tooth fairy as God data got killed me and the reason congress is so intense on having sonnen testify isn't just because he was at the center of Ukraine's scandal right it's also because he has text messages that show what was going on behind the scenes text messages given to Congress show Sunday at another diplomat discussing a possible link between investigations and aid to Ukraine on September nine bill alert the top US diplomat to Ukraine texts I think it's crazy to withhold security assistance for help with a political campaign sunland response I believe you were in correct about President trump's intentions the president has been crystal clear no quid pro quos of any kind adding I suggest we stopped the back and forth by text Taylor text Gordon Sunland are we now saying that security assistance and White House meeting are conditioned on investigations someone response call me I don't know if these guys are guilty or not but you have to admit those texts look suspicious because the only time when you say stop texting let's talk on the phone is when something shady is going down it's twenty one thousand nine hundred no one talks on the phone the only reason to talk on the phone at all is to wish mother happy birthday or to commit crimes or to commit crimes with your grandmother on her birthday just like all right and then you tell me who wins at Bingo and I'll take the rest at the same time I don't blame for wanting to shut down those texts because you see what's happening there the guy he's texting is being so explicit about everything is like I don't think it's a good idea to commit this crime it's like Yo yo Yo yo you know who he reminds me of reminds me of that one guy on every bachelor party group chat who has no chill runoffs is playing it cool and he's like I am excited to cocaine tomorrow guys see you at the cocaine and hookers delete delete delete now in response to the stonewalling the Democrats have issued a subpoena to embassador sunland but may take months or longer to wind its way through the courts in the mean time Congress is also hoping to hear testimony from the whistle blowers and remember there are now two whistleblowers aren't there's the first whistle blower who has secondhand information and secondhand and the second whistle blower who has firsthand information and then of course you've got the confessions from trump which I guess is small hand information I don't know how this works normally normally getting testimony from a whistle blower might not be such a big deal but this time they're talking about taking extra precautions to conceal this person's identity and it could be because the whistle blowers are shy maybe it's because the president has implied they should be executed I don't know either way Democrats are looking at some novel ways to ensure whistle lowest safety the House intelligence committee is taking extreme measures to protect the whistleblower from a president itching to learn his identity this country has to find out who that I was because that person's a spy in my opinion there are growing concerns about the whistle blowers safety it's still unclear when the whistle blower might talk to lawmakers but he is considering using an offsite location limiting staff and members who could be present possible steps include a remote location for testimony and perhaps masking the person's face or voice wow musk's and fake voices just to make sure that trump doesn't know who this person is seems a bit extreme I mean all they really need to do is disguise the whistle blow as trump's daughter tiffany and he'd be like who is this person I've never seen her before in my life I understand why Congress is being so careful here I mean this is serious

"It's very obvious that an unclean home, whether it's a mansion condominium apartment or even a vacation on they all get dirty. But what about individual? Items. What about the items that were actually using to clean our home? Are they clean a research? Study was published on the evil sponge. No disrespect any sponges listening right now. But sometimes they can be a little evil. I mean that study showed that sponges regularly cleaned and soapy water or the microwave actually harbored more of a special type of bacteria called more XL Oslo winces, this bacteria is commonly found in and it can cause infections in people at compromised immune systems. So what did that study actually suggest throw away your sponge when it gets stinky and running your sponge to the microwave dishwasher are the two best ways to disinfect your sponge, but became full if the sponge doesn't get hot enough, the bacteria may actually grow. And if the sponge gets too hot it may actually cause a fire. Also, don't beat your sponges a healthy diet of bacteria. Meaning don't use your sponge to kind of clean off chunks of food and wipe up meat juices, or even dried saliva from your pet, and there it is. That last recommendation the one about cleaning dried saliva from your pet. That's the one that resonates with Dr Courtney hot cast because we love the human animal bond here and part of that bond is cleaning and hygiene of us and our pets. So I have to identify and sort of tackle one of the most common questions that I get in the media as veterinarian and my dog make me sick. That is a topic. That's so many parents and soon to be parents are dying to know. I mean, why do people ask that question so often well when one of your family members is a different species, you're gonna have some questions about them. And we just like our pets love that attention in effect. So it's natural to ask is that good morning kiss. My dog gives me in the face so innocent. Should I be worried? So today, we're gonna be talking about all of those things. A we're going to be talking about a smarter way to clean, we're going to be talking about hygiene and our pets. We're gonna be talking about whether or. Or not our pets could make it sick. And there is no one no one that. I'd rather talk about these topic. Then my two next guests. "And I'm working on something right now where I was researching the process and got some sanding sealer because that's is the right way to do it. And I've been using it in the surface on this would is unbelievably smooth two coats a light sanding into more coats. And I'm just like why have I not been using this? I know all the real wood workers in the world are like yes, Bob. That's why tell everybody to use it when you could you could just able your thing just give it a coda polyurethane, and that's the coat that would raise the grain. And that is you're saying seal coat, and then you said that in the top of that as you build each time. You said your smoothing more. So Santon seal is obviously usable I use a lack of Sandon sale, which was great super smelly. It works. It gives it like a real. Really beautiful finish to to base your other finishes on. But if you just use it, for instance, that the painted the cabinets I made black the first coat. I didn't show it on camera because it's a little redundant. I painted the whole thing. And then I just block sanded the whole entire cabinet and then painted it again and blocks have been painted it a third time. And that's when you get a nice fish. So I said and sealed air quotes with the paint itself. So Yeah. guess. Yeah. I mean, I guess you could use anything for that process. It's more process than product. But I'm using spray lacquer, and it it, you know, one thin coat a spray lacquer will raise it quite a bit. And once you knock that off man it gets really smooth. And I've done that in the past. But I've never done that through enough stages to where you know, now, I'm ready for actual finish. And it's just like buttery smooth. So it's that's been a cool thing to see like, I should have been doing this all along. The other thing was you're talking about nicking something with a chisel in that reminded me of denting. Would I've seen this? I've never done this where you can sometimes if there's a dent in. I guess it's only works in softer woods where you can use an iron with steam, and it will release that dent to a degree in pull it back out because done that does that work. It does it. Yeah. My dad he used to he he was a huge pool player like pools and billiards, and he used to do a lot of q repairs for people and and the the cue stick. The the business end of it is made from maple at least in most cases, it's made from maple and it gets dinged up all the time, and he wouldn't even use an iron. He would just put a drop a wire on their let it sit and expand. And then send it back down. And the dent was gone. So it does work and even in Hollywood, I was gonna ask is it soft hard. Any would worse? It has worked just expanding. It works to some extent depends on how damage the actual is. But it has worked for me, especially sometimes veneers. You wanna pop up a little dead air. But another time a lot of times, I'll fill another thing. I do is. Let's say you you make something in hardwood. And you don't you have gaps. And you're like, oh, you didn't realize as you will working you save the sawdust, and I mix it in with the first coda, poly. So wherever those paint the whole thing. And then I take sodas today. Rub. It into any of the small cracks in the let it dry, and then as you say that you do maybe once or twice more. So that fine saw say from the Sander bag, for instance, will fill in a little Milo keep minor gaps and stuff. So that's that's always something to do in the Sandton seal coat. Good builder..

"Weeks paychecks will soon be stopping toilets and garbage cans, you know, at closed public parks are still overflowing. What's the sense? Is there really a sense it might be weeks while it's hard to say at this point. And I mean paychecks already stopped for many of these people, including on the contractors who would not get back pay. So we're talking about people like the janitors and security guards who are working here or who are furloughed now it's really unclear to see how long this will last. The majority leader McConnell is tends to be very cautious guy and doesn't want to over promise things here. But it is possible that this could last week's because it's entirely up to what the president is willing to except somebody has to back down to make a deal now. Well, and we're thinking of the things that might happen. And for instance, the US immigration system has already taken a hit the system. The government offers employers to check the immigration status of potential hires is completely unavailable. And of course, this is the issue that the president has focused on. So might think. Like that as they surface move people in different directions. Well, it's hard to say because the president really feels that a shutdown over a border wall is appealing to his base in his core. Republican voters he thinks that this animates them. And he has said many many times that immigration is a good issue for him fighting on it as a good thing for him. And he's been not at all shy about talking about a shut down because of that. So if if there's consequences may seem far away to him. Yeah. I just we have thirty seconds less than that of people. There's been murmurs of impeachment. We're hearing from the top leaders like rules committee chair Jim McGovern. No. There aren't the votes in the Senate. Well, that's probably true. The Senate is a different issue. The houses were an impeachment would start. And that is something that will probably be debated. As more information comes forward. NPR? Congressional reporter Kelsey Snell. Thank you. Thank you. Los Angeles has officially released an earthquake early warning app. It's called shake alert L A. And it's designed to warn people that a quake of five point zero or greater magnitude is coming seconds before the shaking begins Santon Totten is science reporter. In Los Angeles Centene how the work. So I just downloaded it. I have not yet gotten an alert. So I don't know exactly what it will look like when an earthquake strikes, but the way it should work is that you know, you have to turn the app on once, but you don't leave it on and it will work in the background. It gets sort of an indication that they're shaking happening in the distance somewhere. You'll get a little buzzing on your phone, and it'll say you've got ten seconds before you should feel shaking in your area. And that'll give you enough time to drop cover get under a table. You know, make sure you're safe and you're ready for what's about to happen. Well, let me just say I'm glad that you haven't gotten a warning yet. And we hope you don't for quite some time. But I guess the way this works is at the speed of modern day communications like a warning that you'll get on the app is faster than the seismic shaking. The goes through rock is that right? Yeah. So what happens when you have an earthquake is that you've got two different kinds of sort of seismic waves and the first ones are called p waves, and they're actually not that damaging. They're not really the kind would feel, but that would be set off I and those who travel through the rock and the sensors that we have all throughout the state these little boxes that we've buried in the ground near faults. They're going to pick up that p wave shaking, and they can send an alert that goes faster than the p wave to all the phones, and satellite towers and stuff like that saying, you know, hey, something's coming your way. Then the second set of waves the s waves they're the ones that really shake the rock kind of like, you know, the incredible hulk pounding on the ground sort of thing. And those also go a little bit slower than modern communications. So you really have all this time. When there could be lead time, if we can get the message out with these centers felt something shaking, but it hasn't reached people in major cities may be at or far away from the fault. Now, the problem if you're standing right on top of the fall, there's going to be virtually no time for warning to happen. They wouldn't be able to beat those shaking waves. But if you're a good distance away, maybe. One hundred miles or something from the fault. You could get you know, tens of seconds of warning. And that could really be a huge boon for anybody who needs to get prepared. That's a good point there. I mean, how much warning would it take you really be able to prepare? If you had just a few seconds. What could you do in that time? Well, you might not be able to do a lot. If you're hearing this right now, and you're about to have an earthquake drop cover get under a table or something and hold on. But what really is important here is all the things that could be automated. So Lisa imagine an earthquake starts and all the trains and California suddenly slow down or come to a stops. That don't get thrown off the tracks. Imagine if in hospital surgeons get an alert, and they can put down their scalpels right before they're about to do some sort of tricky incision. Elevators pause mid air. So that they're not going to, you know, get jostle. The fall even utilities can shut off. So power lines aren't gonna break. There's a lot of automated stuff that could happen within seconds. And that's the stuff that could really be important. And some of this is already going on in Mexico and Japan. There are early warning systems there. That have worked very well. What are the possible false excuse the word put the faults of this one? Yeah. So. Yeah. Mexico and Japan and both have there's for quite a while decades. And one of the things that you have to worry about is that there are a lot of false alarms. That's going to be part of the game here, there could be shaking caused by construction or other things that might be able to trigger. It in weird cases. There's also, you know, the just false alarms were maybe the shaking wasn't as bad as they thought. And you're going to see that there might be a quake. And then you feel nothing. We may if you have this app get an alert, and then feel nothing, but I guess it's all supposed to be worth it. If we get that warning before the big one. So this is just for Los Angeles County. Are there any plans for a similar app in in other cities in California for the whole state? Yes, right now, we've got several hundred sensors in California, they wanted you maybe double that. I think we have about six hundred in California, and maybe eight hundred up and down the west coast and the sensors, you know, if we get a whole bunch more we could really expand this. System right now, we're just highlighting this app in Los Angeles. But there are plans for a state wide one to rolled out eventually, and I think the goal one day USGS would love to have a whole west coast wide, shake Lert that could want people even in Seattle or oriented about impending quake doom impending quake, Jim it sounds like if if you have that kind of hanging over your head that there might not be any applicant make feel better about it. But you live in Las Animas to what extent do you actually feel more secure now that you downloaded it? I'm more excited to see how the technology works. This app has a little checklist about equate. It can get together, you know, all the supplies. You might need the water food, rations know, all that stuff. I think that would make you feel a lot more secure because you know, there's a good chance to survive the big quake. But the hard part is going to be after the rebuilding and getting your your life back together. So the prep you do now could really help by the way when you say the big quake, the big one would what the latest. Forecast in terms of seismic activity. Oh, well, the way this hasn't changed a lot in that will really overdue for a major quake on the San Andreas fault. We just know it will do a lot of damage. We don't know when it's coming or how bad it'll be. But you know, the science says it will happen. So it could happen right now on this phone call. So if I suddenly go dark, you know, that's what that's what happened. Well, there's not for that Sandon talking science reporter in Los Angeles. Thank you. Nice to.
