Among the Massachusetts corrections officer might get on the fact that I have to wait for a check. That's gonna call me to show up. Every day is is disgraceful demand. CBS news update. I'm Deborah Rodriguez. CBS news time five thirty two. All eyes will be on apple when the markets open on Wall Street next hour after the markets closed yesterday, apple CEO, Tim cook said revenue for the last quarter will fall well below the company's earlier projections because demand for the iphone is waning in China for a closer. Look at Apple's troubles in China. We're joined live on the KCBS ring central Newsline by Wayne Ma technology reporter with the information dot com based in Hong Kong, Wayne, thank you for joining us this morning. So what's the problem with apple in China and its popularity there apple says that? The Chinese communist soy. And that's having the biggest impact on revenue, but doesn't tell the whole story. If you look at the number one smartphone seller in China. That's why way Chinese smartphone maker and their sales are through the roof this year, they crossed one hundred billion in revenue and so apple blamed the real issue is more that Chinese consumers don't really use. Apple are locked into Apple's products. Or, you know, I I message is very small share. Everybody uses. We chat an app that can be used on Android phones. Iphones. And so then it comes to just specs and there are lots of time. He's phones. Now, he's made phones that are cheaper. And just as Baxter technically to dancers, the iphone. So it seems like there are a whole lot of issues. Here. You do have a slowing of the economy in China, the drop in car sales, and appliance sales would suggest that you have what you just pointed out, which is this cheaper competition. You also have a worldwide trend for a longer refresh cycle. Michael on smartphones. We're just not replacing our phones is fast. Is this all the kind of trouble that apple can't get out of in China? I think Chinese consumers really prices the biggest issue and apple in China's position more is a luxury brand. And you know, that's been a good engine for its growth for the last five years. But now, you know market first year Beijing in San Gennaro, very saturated. And so now you have to sell phones to consumers in second and third tier cities. And and the price point just just. Budget? Does this competition put pressure on apple to come up with new innovations for its I found that was one of the complaints that there weren't that? Many new changes to the latest edition of the iphone. I think. Yeah. I mean, I think it's not just apple. I mean, everyone is facing kind of this kind of, you know, come come denominator where everything's becoming a slab of glass. And so you know, what what can you do to differentiate yourself with software and services? But the problem with apple is that it's offering services are not that popular in China. Yeah. Wait. I wanted to ask you about that. Because that has been a a storyline from apple for a while that the company will be converting as we move deeper into the smartphone air into a company that sells you things you can access from your smartphone. Is it your sense though, that China's just not the market for that? Yeah. I mean for break into the China market with its own software is pretty difficult. You know, China's ruled by three major internet companies kind of dominate everything from messaging mobile payments. And apple just doesn't have the software that is that appealing to Chinese consumers is the Android being affected as much. I mean, the thing with Andrew is. It's very fragmented. Right. So. You know, you have apple apple used to be you know, the number to the number one smartphone seller in China five six seven years ago. But now drink fish, you do have, you know, Android, thunder, did well, the wealth kind of spread out. Thanks for your time. This morning we've been talking live at Wayne Ma the technology reporter with the information dot com based in Hong Kong apple late in the day yesterday, issuing it. Updated sales guidance for the first time in a long time saying revenue for the next quarter will drop below earlier projections. This hasn't happened in many a year at apple overnight world markets, not pleased with that we've are expecting to see a sharp drop in the NASDAQ and Dow Jones industrial numbers at the opening bell today in our Jason Burks will be here in about fifteen to eighteen minutes with more on that coming up next. We'll check the early commute for you. KCBS news time five thirty six. What does building better Bank? Look like, it starts with building Capital, One cafes warm.
