"Org, insured by NCU. Sports at 15 and 45 powered by maximus. Moving people and innovation forward. AFC championship came in the second period. Here's rob wood for. Yeah, that's right. We're not far from halftime actually inside of four minutes until the break and the Kansas City Chiefs leading the Cincinnati Bengals by a score of 13 to three and just moments ago got our first touchdown of the game. It was Travis Kelce, who was actually a questionable to even play in this game. He catches a 14 yarder from Patrick Mahomes, the KC defense feasting on that injury riddled Cincinnati offensive line four sacks of Joe burrow in this first half so far. He's completed 7 of 11 passes, so the completion ratio a little out of whack there. Philadelphia behind their historic rushing attack in an opponent that literally ran out of quarterbacks as headed to their fourth Super Bowl in franchise history. This after a 31 to 7 blowout of the San Francisco San Francisco forty-niners, all four eagles touchdowns coming via the ground, so they set a single season record of 38 rushing touchdowns all year, 15 by Jalen hurts, so he breaks Cam Newton's single season record among quarterbacks and today we see the division rival cowboys set to look for a new offensive coordinator, reportedly parting ways with Kellen Moore and what's being called a mutual decision. Now here's a report that should make the rest of the NFC east very happy, including us here in Washington. Head coach Mike McCarthy will take over the play calling duties in Dallas. So if you think there's enough talk about what they're doing with McCarthy, it's about to ramp up quite a bit. The capitals took a 5 one beating in Toronto. They opened their three game road trip with a thud, the lone goal coming from Nicholas bactrim, his first of the season on a first period power play, but it would be all. Maple Leafs from there, four goals in the second period and former capital Ilya Samsung off with 23 saves in net to hand Washington a third loss in their last four in college basketball today, Georgetown loses a heartbreaker to St. John's the fault of one in ten in the big east. George Mason falls to saint Joe's in a result that sends both of those teams to four and 5 conference records. Rob woodwork, WTO sports. Okay, rob, we're at 7 47. Damar Hamlin says he's thankful for the outpouring of support and vows to pay it back. "He goes. Foot on the gas all the way touchdown San Francisco. San Francisco proves to an 18 point wild card victory. Seattle's defensive errors are microcosm of an inconsistent season. I totally have to own that. This is me not getting it right fast enough. Pete Carroll's defense suffered from season ending injuries to Jamal Adams and Jordan Brooks, growing pains with a pair of rookie corners and offensive linemen. What'll happen is that all the noise will quiet for them and their vision will expand and things will slow down and all of those normal things that happen are such a value gain for us as a group. Sunday, players cleared out lockers at Renton team headquarters. Linebacker Cody Barton finding reward in exceeding many expectations. A lot of people didn't think, you know, this team would do much. And to exceed that. And we knew it the whole time, you know, inside. But just to do the things that we've done, and even though it is over, like I've said, to continue building on that, you know, I mean, it means a lot. Tight end, Noah fan had joined his first Seattle season, a trade that brought him from Denver and his message to the 12. Just thank you. You know, obviously ups and downs throughout the year. But it was a great season and a lot to build off of. Important decisions for Seattle's front office, whether to sign quarterback Geno Smith to a long-term free agent deal. Miss a big deal to us, and so this couldn't be more typical by the way the whole thing turned out and

"Reggaeton, man. Everybody thought it was a fad and that reggaeton will just keeps exploding for shame on us for not having talked about the phenomenon known as Bad Bunny or Gale or glass animal. He's quite magnetic live. I've seen him a couple of times in big shows and he does he's quite a dynamic performer. A fine collection of songs from 2022 if I do say so myself. Thank you for sharing everyone. And I also loved a lot of the music this year, but as a longtime listeners know, I put together an annual mixtape of some of my favorite songs. And that's what I'll be sharing next on sound opinions. And we are back. I'm gonna dive into my annual mixtape, which I have dubbed strange things are happening every day. You can tell what kind of mood I was in during 2022. The 2021 and 2020 before it. But you are the king of the mixtape. Well, I love putting these things together and now it's easier than ever where you can sort of make a running list of your favorite songs on a playlist, right? And we were talking about this the other night with some listeners of the show and I mentioned that I had looked at that list again and I had there's a 162 songs over there. And these date back to January. So we're listening to stuff. I'm listening stuff into penalties. Sometimes stuff that we don't even review on the show. But I'll hear something that catches my ear and I go, God, that's a cool story. I like that vibe or whatever, a lyric or something that stands out about the song and I'll drop it in that playlist. And then you start to see a playlist take shape in your head as you're looking over this collection of songs that appeal to me over the course of a year and you pick out 25, 30 of them that just sort of make sense together, or at least they make sense to me. But I dubbed the mixtape this year's mixtape strange things are happening every day because of, you know, I was in a Rosetta sister Rosetta star mood all year that Elvis movie as much as people can denigrate Elvis. I think they did some really amazing things with the highlighting the black performers that in the Elvis. In particular, on that soundtrack, what stood out for me was one of those tracks that really kind of, that song has a lot of relevance about the way things went this year. And a lot of these artists on my playlist this year seem to be addressing the whole idea of coming out of this period where we just got thrown for a loop. We just, haymaker, you know, with the pandemic for two plus years. These are just a selection of several songs from mixtapes. So I'm going to do this in two segments. This first set includes the song mono retriever from a band called dummy it's a coed LA Quartet. I play this as a buried treasure earlier this year. They released a debut LP called mandatory enjoyment last year, and I just thought, okay, that's kind of where we're at as a people, mandatory enjoyment. We're going to find some way to have fun. And it's all this trouble. And I also thought there was something reassuring about that krautrock groove never seems to go away in terms of at least spinning my wheels. The motor beat so much that that groove over those hazy shoe gaze guitars. Yes, there are some references here. Yes, this group does remind me a lot of stereolab, which was sort of like a second generation iteration of crowd rock. But that doesn't make it any less enjoyable. That sound will always get to me. The next track is a track from a new band called plosives. It's a new old band because the one of the founders of that Ben is John Reese, who's been in some of my favorite bands of the last three decades, hot snakes, rocket from the crypt, drive like jehu, all John Reese projects. He is in this band. It's fabulous, explosion of John Rhys guitar. And again, Reese is a veteran who was just completely going nuts because he loves to tour, he loves to play music live. So he said, well, I'll just form another band. I've already gotten 12 bands going. I'm gonna make another band and make another set of music for that band. So I love that attitude. Bodega, a band out in New York produced by their first record was produced by Austin Brown of parquet courts. So in lieu of any parquet courts this year, we got a record produced by a member of parquet courts. One of my favorite bands, bodega has since gone on since that collaboration with parquet courts and continuing in the vein of really smart, well crafted, but sort of out of left field pop songs. They're writing pop music, but it's also got a little bit of a twist to it. And this track statuette on the console basically an atheists declaration. That's probably the best way I can. The little icon of the saints. What do you got that? You're praying to that statue in any console. You think that's going to save your life? It's up to you, buddy. It's up to you to do that. And finally, the OCs. And this is in that John Reese vane, where you have a veteran artist, John dwyer, whom we've talked to in San Francisco San Francisco to Doctor John guard once upon a time. 26th album by the OCs, reaching a new generation of fans with this music, very much referencing his 80s roots here, the track is called foul, the title track from his new album by the

"Eagles save a date with Dallas down the line. Schedules there if you want to go and try to run to history. Now we know the football gods will stick their nose in at some point and swirl some things up. You've got teams trying to get healthy. The aforementioned forty-niners. McCaffrey comes in, has his trifecta. See how I got that in with the breeders cup this weekend. That's how good I am. The idea that you come in and he gives you your spark debo get healthy. And for San Francisco San Francisco, a lot of it is predicated on getting healthy and being ready down the stretch. The rams, lots of flaws. Can McVeigh pull a rabbit out of his hat. Maybe maybe not, you got tampin Green Bay. And you got Minnesota there. Winners of 5 straight, there's enough intrigue of, all right, can they get healthy? Can they get right? Did you see enough with Dobbs last week to think maybe the offense finds a little bit of stride still have a biweek to come as do the Buccaneers, right? So you have those things still in the offing. And I hate to put it into the universe, but I'm a realist in all of this. Eagles have been really healthy for through the first 8 weeks. Okay. Why you got to do that? Because it's not doing that to them. It's being an NFL realist who's been around and in this business and been a fan of a long time. Remember the radar? Oh, Derek Carr is going to win MVP. They're going to win it all. And then what we were playing, we were playing this out by going. It's broke. It's broke. They had been healthy all year long and just like that. Snap. There goes it like a slim Jim. Oh my, what is wrong with you? What is wrong with you? It's me just telling you, we can do the prognostication for February. February is a long time out. Santa Claus will come and go. Hanukkah will come and go. Hell, we got Thanksgiving and family that you don't like that you gotta sit for hours at stare at over a damn dried out turkey. All of that still to come before we get to the playoffs. Wow, you are, you suddenly got fired. You suddenly went from zero to like a 150 on that because you don't like Thanksgiving. That's what happened to you right there. Wow, is the injuries are coming. It's gonna happen all that. You know what? It's on you now. It's on you if that happens. I'm not wishing it on anybody. I'm just a realist. It is on you. What if they don't? Things have this habit. Santa fell. But we say this about teams all the time. Hey, what got them to the Super Bowl? They were healthy all the way through. That could happen. We don't get to say that very often. That could happen as well. Teams to tell the teens make it all the way through. That could happen too. And I hope that that's the case because we made a new friend last night too. Wow, man. Twitter and how about a fresca might get swollen dome Jason Smith Mike garman in for Dan and the Dan eds today. "Out of san francisco san francisco and then accommodations. And then your fee. What am i looking at out of pocket. Why it depends if you stay three days. It could be you know your your airfare right now i mentioned cisco you can probably get flight roundtrips under five hundred bucks so Into next year. So i think that's why people are really booking. Because if they can they can get their airfare and then it depends the workshop goals from you know seven hundred fifty bucks to almost five thousand dollars the it depends what you want to spend on what you wanna do. And if you want super luxury or just Just tuition quick. We can paris so much anybody any pretty much. Anyone can find something that works if they really wanna do it and they want to plan for it and i can vouch for because I came along on one year workshops several years ago in. I can vouch for the works. I was amazing. I mean you're in paris right. So it'd be. There parisians take the perez workshop so in on. That's when you actually know that you don't come for the destination. Ever you come for the experience so so yes when to first time in paris but most people who on paris workshop. They've been there twenty times so it's nothing new for them but they see it for the first time again when they come a workshop. So that's that's kind of fun. It was it was amazing. I remember i. I tell you. There's always every time we talk. I remember wondering what the what power source valerie's ardenne has discovered or is she an android or a. Why why she able to walk such a pace and take us all these amazing places and never break a sweat. Your you know when you love what you do i yeah. I'm never been tired of walking for one thing. I never said i'm tired. I need to sit down. I'm standing as i'm recording this. I'd never set so. Yeah that's amazing so so okay. So so that's the workshop piece of it so it's arrange right so it could be a couple of days. It could be a week long. It'd be all inclusive it could it. Could you know you pick your own will tell if you're broke and you wanna stay in a hostel. You can do that. Loaded in the presidential suite at the ritz-carlton paris. You can do that. At least people who have very workshop haven't spent all their money on gear to go to the work to go on the workshops. The people are better off spending money on education. At least get something out of it. I never get it when people you know. Spend all that money on new gear. I don't get it. Do they actually become better photographer. determine let's talk about that a little bit just because i'm i love your your approach to photography the minimalistic and i say minimalistic minimalistic sound intentional. Like you're just you know. I'm just trying to prove a point by doing less with moore. You literally don't enjoy the photographers that are just like. Hey what's the next version of photoshop. Or what's this. And what's that. Or hey this drone now. Has this many mega pixels and can fly for this long. You are polar opposite of all those people a respect them you just you play in your own world of just capturing light and shadow with that little camera and in walking around and enjoying yourself. Tuck can you talk a little bit about your philosophy when it comes to the because. I'm sure you've had people come on your workshops that are loaded up with backpacks full gear or actually. Because i really do think that's one thing people embrace when they come on my workshops that they're gonna shoot with One camera one lands for a week and a lot of people will bring backup stuff but then they find that. Wow this is liberating. And i see so much better. Not i'm just you know. Focusing on seeing and non switching lenses lower or setting so It's really the the whole point is to get to get the camera out of the way so that you can focus on the important thing which is seeing and i find that people who come with more with simple gear or even used their phone will will learn so much more and and see better quicker than people who were who have so much gave you know ten years ago. When i started teaching workshops internationally they would be like ninety s for one less and then quickly it just you know can reverse itself like maybe three years ago. It's still have one. Dsl are in the group. And i haven't seen a ds lawrence nears so And a lot of people will have a similar camera. Might my works. Although i'm a fujifilm x photographer. Fuji film has nothing to do with my workshops. I really don't care what people shoot with honestly when people has been. Which camera should i get. I can't even. I don't even i don't tell them. Oh you should get this one fuji. That's what i should know because it's not for everyone. And so a lot of people on the flexibility of having a entered interchangeable lens system which is totally fine. Actually i tried one. You'll laugh because i tried my trip to france and may and i was a new camera. Fuji me how could you take pictures with that for the for our online thing and like. Yeah it's a fifty fifty millimeter lens. I mean seriously. I had to back up all the time. I thought i should probably have like beep beep beep because so out of my comfort zone. I hated the experience of my. It's so common productive to my creativity to have to learn to use. I knew camera because settings were little different and then if focal night that has no consistency with my body of work and It it made no sense. I quickly returned it after. I got back and i'm like i don't wanna keep it so i i have. I love what i have to. That's my only requirement. I just need to of each edition of the x one hundred because that has the rain while backup and then one that has a raid kit. 'cause now it's weather resistant except that the front element cannot be sealed so you need to put a filter in front of the front l. in front of the lens but i don't shoot with filters so I need one for every day. And then i need one for rainy. Day self But i the rainy-day camera only comes out on rainy days. So yeah interesting interesting how do you how do you find the what's the best way for sharing the work. You know the the shots that you do either either in a workshop or did during the pandemic you did a lot of things around your town at home. Like how do you share that stuff. Is it mainly through the website. Is it's mug mug instagram. only now i don't. I don't post on facebook and instagram. And then if i working on an ongoing series i have a portfolio in my portfolio gallery in my on my website with each series. That i'm working on so i at to them regularly. So wow it's about it yeah. Instagram is pretty much it. I don't it. Really is where. I post stories when i'm on workshop. I'll post videos action videos of workshop. Outings we do or students at work and So i post a lot of stories but only post one photograph a day on my you know in on instagram. I think that's important to not to put polls too many. I tend to follow people. Who post like ted pictures in a row. Because it's like now. That's just too much so i really recommend regularity..

"Attracted those two words together In san francisco san francisco getting more complete team compared to the green bay packers offensively. They're more sound defensively. Very good on defense. I like the san francisco forty niners take down the packers at home last monday night. Eagles take on the cowboys. Give me the cowboys. I think they are going to get come out. Firing offense defense looks a lot better than what they're doing last year. The cowboys eagles at home in a good monday making the prime time games have been very good this past the first two weeks so keep the momentum please like philly dallas keep that good game. Going packers niners. Please keep the good game momentum. Going in i mean panthers and taxes i i don't know i mean it's going to be a game it's gonna be a game on. I guess we'll watch it but those are my week three picks hopefully that continues where i can have a winning record throughout the season so last week i did some upset alerts and i gave some pictures from top. Twenty five match ups. I believe i was like three for three on those top. Twenty five games I could be wrong. Because i know last week. I'd pay alabama to beat florida. I know i picked penn state to be auburn. And i know i picked. Byu to be arizona state so it's three for three on those and then the upset alerts. I was two for three. So i did say my michigan state would go to miami and beat miami. And they did no problem. Miami's not gonna football right now at all. They're probably going to be a football for. I don't even know there is not good anymore So i paid that one. No problem west. Virginia to beat virginia tech. I picked that one and of course that happened. And then purdue to be notre dame purdue did pull it off but notre dame does not look good like they are not the number twelve team in the country and we're gonna find out this weekend. What they really are okay. So now looking forward to the top. Twenty five match ups. first off. Notre dame against wisconsin on a neutral field. I like notre dame in this game or sorry. Wisconsin whoa not notre dame wisconsin wisconsin's gonna handle this game. No problem i think notre dame is not that good of a football team within wisconsin be more physical than run. The football with some authority was constantly. You know wisconsin's gonna do. They are just like we're going to run the football. We aren't to control the game whether office a line. We're going to play power football. That's just how wisconsin always been replaced. Sound defense and then notre dame. I just think they're not that good wisconsin's wisconsin one to one. They had they. You know they.

"Dodgers. Last night became the second team in baseball to clinch a playoff spot. Unfortunately for the dodgers the first team to clinch is the team is ahead of them in division the giants. It's likely the giants and dodgers will finish with more wins than every other team yet. One of them is headed to a single elimination wildcard game. We'll bomb. Is this good for baseball. No tony not only. Is it bad for baseball. It's stupid for baseball. It's lazy and stubborn of baseball because you want to see these teams at least as late as they can play each other. Whatever round was set that up in this case the naturally championship series. If possible if they played to that so all you gotta do a seat it. that's all just seeded. I mean other sports do. This is not that hard. As a matter of fact there's always discussion for basketball about seeding the tire playoffs. So that you don't have to best teams playing in the second round. You don't want that. And so what baseball's doing here by possibly having the giants and dodgers face off we're not face off. Having one of those teams perhaps eliminate it. It's just dumb tony. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever. it's indefensible. Yeah so i don't think it is fair. I don't think it's fair that the team that comes in second in that division. That has a better record than twenty eight other teams in baseball. Yeah should face a single elimination. I don't think it's fair but the question is is a fair. The question is is a good for baseball. And i kinda think it is. I'm different than you. And i'll tell you why it's pretty rare only happens once every eight or ten years. What it will do is almost ensured that the giants and the dodgers will be playing as hard as they can all the way till at least the last weekend. If it's decided in the last weekend then it puts a tremendous amount of attention on that particular wildcard game and it puts a tremendous amount of pressure on either the giants of the dodgers who have to be in that particular wildcard game. It makes the baseball playoffs. More like the. Nfl playoffs would single elimination and to me. That's good for viewers and fans. I know you are steve producer. Eric ride home. You want to make everything. Tv show you want everybody with a tiara. Walking down the boardwalk in jersey city. I'm not with that sport. Sport has its own identity. Everything doesn't need to be a tv show. If television wants to peek in fine but don't set it up in that lazy way for tv is not fair and tony. You still miss more of a good product late in your televisions aid series having the four seven. So that's right. That's an assumption that someone is going to get eliminated. I'll tell you what would be best of all if after one hundred sixty two games the giants and the dodgers tied and they had a one game. Playoff would be in san francisco san francisco when tim nine in the season syria and then the loser that gets bound started that and into the wild card where can lose again now to that drama is worth it to me and i don't really did you. Did i hear you correctly. Are you gonna walk down. Atlantic city and tr. Did you say that's what you want. Wow i was good walk. Somebody's been walking for like how long was that pageant around like ninety years. Let's move on to the nba. Where by the way. They're playing situation. Involves the bottom teams at the bottom where john wall could not be playing tony for the houston rockets. Much longer. the team in the star guard reportedly agreed to work together to find his next team. Wal- average twenty one and seven over forty games last season while coming back from achilles here but the rockets have two young guards and the team have wall and have mutually decided that a bench role would not benefit either party. So what are you see tone futures of wall and the rockets. I'll take the rockets. I because it's easier in the near term. They are a disaster. They won't win. Twenty five games in the last two years. Now of who's gone harden has gone. They got nothing westbrook. They traded drug wall. And now you know now wall is going. I look what they've lost and just a year year and a half or something like that. Wall is more complicated. I don't know what his value is. He's never won anything. He's grossly overpaid at this point in his career. He is injury prone at this point in his career. He spent last year saying he wanted to get out of washington. Now he's saying he wants to get out of houston. I don't always on al content at this point. No he's not he didn't say wants to get out of houston in fact he said he didn't want he would work with whatever they wanted to do. And everybody there houston and said he's been great so he's not a malcontent so then why because they want to play two other guys. And i've got the guys they wanna play. In addition to having christian maybe healthy again and jalen green who seems to be a fee nom on the rest. They got kevin porter jr. they got this turkish kid. Who's like six ten. i sing. Goon his last name. They got margin. They're building all right and they don't want a guy who makes forty six million dollars and is thirty years old. They don't really want that guy. Taking time away from the young guards. And i kevin porter jewelry i did. Because he's one of them. So tony houston wants to go with a complete rebuild and a youth movement and wall doesn't fit that and he is said. Okay what do you. How do you wanna handle this so good for john. Wall makes it attracted to somebody else but you mentioned the salary. I know people that trade you to matt massive salaries before but his seems to be the most difficult contract going to who is going to trade for him. This is somebody who still runs ahead of all of his teammates. He doesn't make his teammates better scores a lot of points. He has talent of the clippers. Going to trade for him. Is dallas going to trade down trade from is portland gonna give damian lillard for john wall what is value. I think it sinking. I think it's sinking okay. Value is a difficult thing to figure out tony young on forty five million dollars for each of the next two years. Wow we move now to a report by adam schefter. Espn eric the enemy. Currently the offensive coordinator of the kansas city chiefs and i quote will emerge as a head coaching candidate for usc unquote. The enemy has no particular ties to usc but he grew up in southern california. Schefter says be enemy is told people. Usc is one of the only college jobs that would interest him. We'll von does be enemy as usc's head coach makes sense to you. Maybe maybe so. I think you need somebody who's invested and who also understands how important we talked about this yesterday. How important that program has been historically though not now and be enemies seems to have that and so yes it'd be lodge was nobody from the h from nhl from the nfl is chasing them. Down here. nate. You'll probably would hire him for some of the teams in the nfl. And so yeah. I was hoping he'd be interested a little cold weather experience right down the street from where i'm sitting right now. He can come in coach a young quarterback and maybe a talented young team. They're better than the guy who's failing at it but it's only be enemy long as well as a wait for the nfl to come calling. So if a team in the place he grew up we may have. Some affinity is open to him. The and that's a difficult job and maybe as difficult as the nfl job of the outrageous expectations. Yeah i mean. I would say that you know the eric. The enemy is a completely reasonable candidate. Because i don't know if he can recruit but here's what he can do. we can walk into. somebody's house. Quarterbacks house and quarterback says who have you worked with and he says patrick mahomes you ever heard of him. He can trump travis chelsea's name to a tight end prospect. He can talk about tyreek hill too wide receiver prospect. And when he's done doing that they're going to say i'm gonna sign with usc. So i think. I think he has stature. I think he has a certain amount of fame. I think he has credibility but it doesn't usually work first of all. It goes the other way people go college to pro at usc. Pete carroll win college to pro though he went back and forth john mccain john robinson did that..

"In the us is way way left to the point. An openly and antiga member and marxist can instruct your children on advanced placement government for several years and not be discovered not stand out so that was the teacher. You heard there first and Upset multiple times. I don't want anybody to hurt him or hurt any of his property. Please none of you nut jobs do that. Of course we call nut job. Doesn't help probably not. That's not very good diplomacy but should he get to his job. Is that cancel culture if he loses his job or is that just no. You can't teach kids in a public school. So i think it's a completely different situation than if he had those points of view and then Of course this would never happen from the left. But if he had the right the right wing equivalent of that point of view and some of his tweets got out. People would try to hound him out of his job at home depot. That's cancer culture. But if he's teaching kids in high school. You can't have that. Gabriel jibe high school teacher. The nato thomas district in the sacramento california area. He is now on in the process of being fired it because it's not canceled culture at all not even close. We know that that he's in the process or he believes in the process. No he is the school board. Made it clear. Okay and Yeah he is on his way out as the also is the father pointed out there and his clip but Where there are specific unequivocal rules in the school district. Which i can quote to you if you'd like that. You're not allowed to advocate. A particular point of view a radical point of view it's cetera. also there are state laws saying you can't advocate for communism in the classroom and this guy was in in open violation of a lot of stuff. So he's going to be sacked for that reason. Points out though. You can't pretend that like this guy. Did this without anybody knowing or anybody else agreeing with him. That's just that's crazy. That doesn't make that doesn't make sense. Obviously people knew who he was. And we're okay with who he was. So let's figure out who all those people are. Yeah the school district actually And so they put out a multi page statement answering the question. Why was this not noticed earlier. A few things strike me as little excuse. They have a new principal. He's only been on campus with that teacher for thirteen days. She rather is new to the school etc. Also this guy appeared to be fairly adept at new student. Week or whatever Anything controversial was hidden. Then once that stuff was over and it was into the day to day grind teaching then out came the antifa flags and that sort of thing. That's crazy now. You mentioned earlier. Some of the antifa crowd is angry with him for being so reckless. Seemed reckless to me. If you want to bring people to your ideology you gotta be more subtle than putting the flag up in the classroom. well yeah. He made excuses for that. He's just trying to represent a broad range of attitudes and including that but yeah they were mad. Get this now friends. They were mad. Because this guy had such a great gig. Indoctrinating children the children of the fascists and he shot off his mouth to a guy. They're having lunch in the whole foods in a bluest cover. You gotta be much more careful than that if you're poisoning the minds of american children. I commend the folks of that area for coming out to the school board meeting last night. Several made some pretty good points. I love clip number. Sixty two michael. I think the situation is best explained by the current operation of public sector labor unions like thomas teachers association and the larger california teachers association with which it is affiliated these entities. No longer consider themselves organizations advocating for the wages hours and working conditions of their members but rather as social justice organizations pushing radical agenda to tear down and fundamentally transform. american society. Debord should immediately take all actions necessary to ensure that classrooms in this district in the future. Not just the past remained free of the political agendas of individual teachers and labor unions. And that children here receive an education rather than an indoctrination. Thank you hear here. And is james o'keefe project veritas points out this teacher. It's not like he was in the closet. He's got an ing sock nineteen eighty-four tattoo on his arm. That was the evil oppressive regime. Big brother war is peace. You know ignorance is knowledge. Erase history change the language to take over. He took nineteen eighty-four not as a dystopia of horror show but as manual as a how to manual. So winston smith was the bad guy. Nineteen eighty-four interesting guys. Reading so hansen says clipped sixty. Five is good another person. Speaking some of my best experiences in high school were discussing current events and social issues in my classes but not once not once. Did i ever know how my teacher felt about those things. I had my suspicions. Everyone's human but i never knew if he was a republican or democrat or she if she was conservative or liberal. I didn't know and that's the type of discussion. I expect in social studies classes in this district. I've heard like everyone anecdotes around the country of left-wing indoctrination and schools and people would always tell me. Oh that's just that's just an isolated incident. Don't worry about it while it's hit home for me now. Yeah it's not isolated at all. It's not even close to isolated. Teachers colleges are way laughed. Well there are some issues that nobody even attempts to hide. I mean the way they push. Climate change on kids in school is just unbelievable. It's just nonstop. You know what. I saw a piece of journalism. The other day. I meant to bring up. That kids now are experiencing awful anxiety depression and hopelessness over climate change. And i'm thinking well that's because they're browbeat every waking hour by people screaming that the world's gonna catch fire and they're going to burn to death probably in the next six months or so. Why do you think they're frigging anchor. Magin if you started from being a little kid that everybody is telling you. The world is going to be miserable hellish existence. If we're alive at all. By the time you're a grownup what why here. Why am i even at school ben. Kids uncle joe here cellular parka by a tank top there you go and in and in some classes i'm sure making it pretty clear about the evil people that are stopping from doing anything about that right absolutely. Hey i wanna share with you a note. From gal i think is a gal who went to school with the antifa teacher story pretty interesting but first a quick word from friends at simplisafe simply safe home security. Keep you safe from fire. How many games are left in the regular major league baseball season before the playoffs. Start and if you can figure that out let me know back to you. Joe thirty eight. I'm needing a distraction. And i think following the playoffs the giants particular. Because i have so many giants will be a lotta fun. But i don't know how closely so the number of hats is the The motivating factor interesting. So it's anonymous person went to teacher's college with this gabe. A what's his name guy bridge ibe not too many years ago. He's a fairly young man even then. His entire reason for becoming a teacher was to indoctrinate high school students to antifa ideology the he was open about it. He even tried to argue that north korea didn't have prison camps that in reality it's the us that has prison camps. Wow yeah who's this guy. Become a teacher. Well a lot of people who are okay with him having those thoughts that's how he becomes teacher well right. Yeah actually. this person goes on to write. Part of the issue is that none of our professors zero backed up any non liberal perspectives. When gave made comments that consistently differed from reality presidents. A professor smiled than continued class. When other students including combat veterans would stand up to gabe. professors wouldn't get involved. They would prey both sides for respecting each other. While gabe showed no respect for others often became angry verged on shouting when confronted with any different perspectives. On issues. other students were too afraid to go against gave for fear of being labeled racist bigoted conservatives. I've never encountered anyone insane as gave and nine years in college Back in college. I swore i would never send my kids to any school. That employed him. He scared me back then. With his extremist ideology scares me now on sign-off koa n. t. I f. a. t. cap. Keep outing antifa teachers. How do you like that folks. And we have another from somebody. Who says i guarantee there two or three in every faculty lounge marxists there maybe not active antifa members. But how do you like the fact that people go to school with somebody and say my god. This person is so incredibly dangerous. I will never let my child attended school where he is teaching and yet his hired. He's employed for years. And if you're if you're a ronald reagan style conservative. You would be a pariah on most campuses for being so right wing yet. Somebody this far out there not just left of center but like at the extreme edge is always. He said i'm a nick. The vicki can't get more left than me. He said that himself at while alex. How many games left in the season. Twenty nine twenty nine. That's still a lot of games. That's that's you know that's thirteen more games than the. Nfl plays an entire season. That's wonderful. I'm so glad i'm i'm watching a lot of ball. Didn't for doors half for some reason. The san francisco giants have the best record in all of major league baseball and the team. That's got the second best record is dodger's right behind them in the same division. Technically the dodgers took the lead of the division. Sorry i didn't realize the giants sucky this week. So it's a reversal. What i said but so you got one and two dodgers giants best record no baseball. That's very exciting. If that were new york and boston you couldn't get away because it's the west coast instead of the east coast. It's flying under the radar and we fun to follow This weekend oh wow where is it. in san francisco san francisco which was going So the afghanistan papers book is out. We're trying to get the author on. He's been making the rounds. I saw with. Jake tapper yesterday on cnn What.

"He suffered in week. One in never fully returned to form walk. Kitchen his only touchdown pass in the playoffs Saints have a huge question mark in the passing game. After releasing veteran receiver manual sanders anti engineer cook and josh hill during a salary salary cap hers that they had had this off season. So they desperately need thomas to get back as close as possible to his final form like when he wanted to phil's office a player of the year in between nineteen when he shattered the league record with one hundred forty nine sections the saved in hold any traditional practice sessions in the spring. So we'll have to wait camp to see how healthy he is in. You know if he's even close to being back to himself. Tampa bay buccaneers. The books have very easy question. How tom brady. Surger surgically repaired knee progressing. Will he have any limitations and camp. You see that that. That question has nothing to do with how they're going to perform the question is. Is tom brady healthy. Is he going to be better. Is he going to be good to go and thing about. This is the reason i wouldn't even worry about. This kind of stuff too much is because if tom brady can no. I wouldn't say we would know but might think is tom. Brady's not the type to go out there and embarrass themselves so if he can't go. I don't think you'd go. Brady showed no signs of injury during the books three day. Mandatory minicamp participated in everything except blades periods. As coach bruce arians Didn't want any you know over. Brazil is defender trying to corner in You know bump into him or anything like that or chat prove a point in into hurting even worse than it already has probably heard him of teammates have said they don't even notice the injury. It's a little weird because You hear about it in the media and stuff like that but as far as day to day anytime Were throwing with him. Doesn't feel like there's anything wrong. You know that happened recently Like an operation. Especially and i will say about kris godwin his wide receiver said. We don't think about it if we see him out there than he's physically able to go and does a really good job which is being professional coming ready to bring your a game In like the like. That's pretty much what. I noted that you know backed up by the words here now. Chris guy win. That brady couldn't go brady. Wouldn't beat her trust me. They're they're not. They're not making any worse than it already is for themselves when it comes to the injury in brady's not his legacy and his name on it to the final division the nfc west most competitive division of declared by me So arizona cardinals. How effective would. Jj watt be for you and your defense in his late years will defensive coordinator vance joseph scheme will give what signed as a free agent is off season opportunity to do blitzes in rush the passer. A little bit more than he has recently That's the way why prefers to play plus why we'll have challenged jones opposite side which will open up one on one opportunities for both of them are got to be hard to decide who the double team i guess the the officers on the hot hand jones coming off a biceps injury that ended a season in week five last year. And he's focused on returning to the twenty thousand nine hundred warm when he had nineteen stacks. he's been posting his workouts on social media and it looks like he's in some of the best shape of his career If that translates to the field than teams are in trouble. Teams are in trouble. They're not going to know what to do the nagano who stop when stop them because they're both going to be probably a very close to stop the los angeles rams will rams the rams in they have had their ups and downs and they have been very interesting team to watch these parents years. They now have a veteran quarterback in matthew stafford for his first years with eighteen. So is matthew stafford. The quarterback that coach sean fate needs to make his offense. Go this what he's looking for. All the rams offense has been in a steady decline following a thirteen three loss to the new england patriots in the super bowl In the hope is stafford will be Decaf analysts in turning around this With his leadership dog ability and experience through twelve seasons in detroit staffer became the all time leader in everything meaningful lines passing categories but did not win a playoff game in three appearances in los angeles on the other hand. Stafford will not only be able to rely on his own talent but his arrival has a injected energy into mcvay as a play. Caller staffer will be surrounded by playmakers including receiver. Robert woods cooper cup andrew jackson. Let's not forget tied in tyler. He of but there could be issues after that when it comes to the backfield especially so you can't just rely on those things alone is what i'm saying is going to take a big team effort all the way around to get them back to the ball man. It's gonna take some work. Matthew should be able to get it done but we'll see. How resident team. reacts san francisco san francisco forty niners. How soon can rookie trae lands that. You drafted top-five be will top three. Be ready to and push jimmy g. for the starting position. When when is that going to happen. When is he going to take world. The niners have no time line for land. Start as far as we can tell. And there's no need to do it at any time as long as jimmy g. can go to. This is a quarterback that's capable of making it happen. They just at the super bowl coach. Kyle shanahan said if lance turns it into competition with a jimmy g. Then he's okay. Let in that play out of you know a natural conclusion and other words. San francisco is prepared to have garoppolo as the starter and allow lance time. They get settled in before asking. You know for him to start but there are signs. Lands can be ready sooner than expected. Lay much is on pace but land had a lot of responsibilities and north dakota state which runs a pro style offense with some concepts similar to what shinhand does which is also widely Stay developing good quarterbacks outta there for the lead that should help them adapt. Make no mistakes enhanced. Playbook is a different animal but lance has proved his you know he's a fast learner and he can be equipped enough in soon enough time to be started. The team seattle seahawks. Is our final team here. Seattle seahawks Come a long way. Come a long way a lot of fighting in the news for all kinds of crazy stuff. But they're here now. So does sea hawks. General manager john schneider. Having another big summer trade up his sleeve ec gonna make one more move before we get this kicked off. He's made one in three of the last four years or you got sheldon richardson. Twenty seventeen david clowney twenty nineteen adams last year. And that's not counting the trae that made at the day. Along with dwayne brown in two thousand seventeen or carlos dunlap the second last october..

I just want to do this. Because i need to do something with my brain in this moment and i'm going to approach it in the way that i know how to also think is maybe why it's like her work slots well into that beach. Read like book as product mill. You write that we've been talking about the smart thing. Her first novel family trust is not a potboiler. It is like a family drama set in silicon valley where it's mostly dealing about like. Well heard you thinking about how you were. I was reading it. And i wasn't. I wanted to say the quote from. Npr family. Trust is at its best when it telling us the truth about silicon valley that racism and greed operate here as well no measure of assimilation or success can change that and she talked about writing what she knew for her. First novel So she wrote about an asian american family Working in in and around that region both in the tech sector and out and the ways in which like being at these big companies can make you feel good like you're making some good money and then you're very easily thrown into rooms with people who are wait making way more than you and you feel like a disaster And that kind of. I don't know if that feeds into why you might call your next book imposter syndrome on it sir. Return to La La Land: Art Is Back in California

"While other parts of the world of either open man museums or had sporadic lockdowns and reopenings cultural institutions in los angeles had remained firmly closed until this month. Now though most are welcoming visitors again in strictly controlled numbers and with familiar restrictions. Of course among the key. Attractions in town is the made in. La annual at the hammer museum and huntington library art museum and botanical gardens which has been stalled last summer. but he's only now gaining an audience. I spoke to jerry finkel regular contributors to the newspaper and the new york times about l. La's emergence from hibernation jewelry. Why is it. California has taken so long to open. Its museums yeah. It has taken a long time for california museums reopen museums in los angeles in particular. So there was a moment in the fall when the numbers got better in san francisco. Cova numbers got better in san francisco. San francisco museums reopen briefly. Two to four weeks and then had to close again. I don't know which is better opening for a month or not opening it all up and in the case of la that cove numbers have kept us in what they call the purple tier. Governor newsom has created a tier system an order for museums to reopen. They had to move out of the purple tier in that county. Meaning that counties metrics the number of cove infections per day Had to reach a certain level and we just didn't reach that level until recently so by by march we got the word that museums could reopen. That was exactly a year after they close like so many others across the world yep and so basically they opened Not all of them are even open yet so we have a case where lack my real and soon as it could. I think it was the first major museum here to reopen the hammer and the huntington reopened soon after that mocha is still closed. It's not opening until early. June the getty center is still closed. And they haven't given their reopening date yet. But we expect. I think even says on their website likely to be late may

But he's completely writing a book confessing that his involvement to all of this, So he talked about like Tracy Chapman, the singer called Kim Kardashian one day on the phone that he had stolen and he almost answered it because he loves Tracy Chapman. It's It's just very weird. It's but who would even want to publish this? I mean, Francis publishing companies against I don't know it's coming out of France. So who knows that in English? I would imagine it's going to be because we know what's gonna wanna read this when you're making fun of her for calling 911 when she was in France. I don't know. It's just weird. You know why people in this city It's amazing to me that we allow criminals to profit off of the crimes that they have committed. Well, I'm surprised because in France, this is again. I don't know who is publishing this. I just I'm assuming it's a French publishing company. But France has so many strict strict laws about stuff like certain things like the Citizen arrest law and things like that, like it's a crime. If you see a crime and you don't partake, and you don't Help out and so it's just It's very weird that this would even be allowed to be published. But this was also I've seen Kim tell this story, probably three different times, and I cry every single time. She tells the story. She thought she was going to be gang raped and murdered and she didn't speak the language. It was a harrowing, harrowing event for her. And to have this jack hole, be able to write a book about it and make fun of her that she didn't know 911 doesn't work in France. I just the whole thing is disgusting. You want to know what discussed me today? There's an op ed piece that has appeared now in the San Francisco San Francisco Chronicle has been in a couple of other papers beside the Chronicle Some Um, teacher. In San Francisco, who her name is Ingrid, Sire AKI, a road in a bed that the Chronicle published that took Bernie Sanders apart. Because of the way he looked at the inauguration as an example of white privilege, male privilege class privilege. Who the hell are these people have said one thing this happened a lot. This This popped up a lot on social media. And, you know, is it an example he's wearing old $20 coat with mittens. There were hand sewn and given to him. What the hell is the matter with people? Have you get a life? Lee? I know. I know. I believe me. I said the same thing color so Mike. Well, that's what I said. Okay, but I have this. This was a thing that came out. This was a lot on it was on social Media is on instagram, especially where I saw these kinds of commentaries on Bernie because he's he sat there looking miserable, and people thought that it's because he didn't have the nomination that he was being sold or whatever. He was freezing. That was it. It was freezing. Come on, get over. People have the ball some even To show up and this is an example. This woman should have been fired. She's an idiot lets her opinion so I know is everybody's got a right to their opinion, and that's cool. But like opinions unless there well, I don't never die. I don't have a problem with the opinion. What I have a problem with. Is this continuing Harang on white privilege, white guys old white guys. People who have money. That kind of stuff. I'm sick of it. It said. What did they where you are where you are? Because somebody has done something along the way they gave you the opportunity to do and be who you are. Lady. You know, it's just is that it then you know what you bring me around to something else. I'm glad you said that both of you because there is now some talk about sensors. Remember? A couple of weeks ago, we were talking about the letter that was sent From one of the managers and one of the big networks to see the three to Ben Shapiro and Mark Levin. And the other guy who I don't know, Jennifer, you know? Yeah. Right. So they all got a letter supposedly telling the calm down and stop saying things that were not true about the election and yada yada whipping people into a frenzy Well, so that's been up and down in sideways. A lot of people. A lot of talk president meant we They didn't say anything about truth, they said, stop talking about the election results. Well, that the member that I saw said Stop, Stop! Stop telling things that aren't true. Stop saying things that aren't true, anyway. The point from all of this is But now there is a conversation with some of the probably folks have the same point of view. Is this teacher that we ought to go back to regulating talk radio and have the fairness doctrine Talk alone Day one on this program, and you said they're not going to go back to the fairness doctrine. Well, guess what conversation Yeah, it is a conversation. So, 10 days, maybe what the conversation might be on our social media. J is, should we? What? Maybe I don't know how afraid that What's This is so important to people listen to programs like this Do we need to have? I don't have to worry about it here because I got Victorian Jennifer and maybe Jay, you and I can argue about stuff. OK, guys are scary. Yeah. The other scary as interesting anyway. So, um, is there something about all the talk about fairness that would lead us to believe that we should have fairness on the radio? We need to have equal time or something like that. We work it through. But Find it find it very troubling. Frankly, very troubling. Is it just it just well, the real people don't get it right. But the concern with the talk radio stuff is really not necessarily what they say on terrestrial radio. It's podcasting. And because the podcast platforms are censoring their anybody who's who's spreading misinformation. False, You know, you know false statements.

"I don't know i. I don't know exactly what he wants in money starts doing the beautiful mystery and i don't know where we're going to be in. I'm living for the moment. All of those things nice incorrect but really hasn't given any sign in terms of. I wanna go here. I want to go there. I'm gonna do this. I wanna do that so we don't know we don't know i mean. Does he want the love. We see the free agents on the market. In terms of you know wide receivers get himself Number two receiver to complement the davante adams. So you may get a willful or the fourth. Juju smith schuster. A corey davis get an upgrade at cornerback. I mean are you going to be able or the packers going to make the move to try to spend the money to get themselves. Ah corey davis reggie smith schuster or a willfuller or this is gonna go ahead. Graft another backup quarterback. We don't know we know. No but the likelihood of rogers being traded asking for a trade zero. Where's it gonna go. What situations kennedy goto. That's better than the one that he has right now. In green bay people talk. Well san francisco san francisco san francisco. You're gonna try to tell me. The skill players for san francisco are better than the ones in green bay. I don't think so. Yeah you might have a kyle. Shanahan abdul offense a playcaller which could be heaven on earth but seems to mean fluorine. Too bad either. Mean the opportunity to play with. Sean payton intriguing. Maybe go to indianapolis. They have a lot of Cap space and play with and be the quarterback for that team under right. Okay maybe possibly but take a little of the skill players on that team. There's no one. There's no number one receiver michael. Thomas isn't better than devante. Atoms tice yeltsin is that better than Davante adams you take a look at the wide receiving corps upgrade. You take a look at that team in general dylan upgrade. I don't think maybe rogers is like well. You know what. I'm so fucking great that you put me on the new orleans san francisco and indianapolis and i can elevate. I knew what brady did. The season within going to tampa bay elevating some of talent. I don't know. I don't know. But i i know one thing is that he's a beautiful mystery. What the hell is aaron rodgers talking about. I got mystery. Forty metre jefferson. What time is it. Oh here's a clue. You're wearing a watch an old jefferson's for those my age. You should know won't talk about what they're joke number seriously. Man i i think i just think it's a situation where where we're speaking about. Twenty twenty one season that aaron rodgers will be back at the quarterback with a green bay packers..

Backlash grows for police use of facial recognition (The 3:59, Ep. 562)

"The. Welcome to three fifty nine I'm Ben FOX Ruben, I'm as actually on Tuesday, San Francisco became the first city to ban. Police use of facial recognition tech proponents of the ban say the tech offers a slippery slope for Massar Valence while proponents facial recognition say that it's a useful policing tool. I as guess, do you expect more cities to follow suit with San Francisco? I think the outright ban is a little bit much. I don't think cities will do that right away. I did see somebody talk about a moratorium maybe they don't use it as, as, as primary method of dentist. Maybe it's the secondary. Or maybe it's used in a very light way. But the outright ban, I think, is a little bit much. There must be a different way to regulate something like this. Well, it's also interesting that this is obviously, not a federal ban. It's still being used in a variety of other places right? Yeah. So I was looking at an article about this, and this does apply to San Francisco police and agencies, but the San Francisco, please does not use this currently. So nothing's changed. There plus facial detect is available at airports, international airports and ports. But that's jurisdiction, which means this ban has no effect on those areas, which means that if I went to the airport, and San Francisco, San Francisco International airport, they could use facial recognition in theory. So it's not like the entire municipality everything in your, the federal you can't can use this. So some additional information about this. The Georgetown Law Center on privacy and technology, which has been looking into facial recognition technology for quite some time came out with a study today, this morning, saying police are using flawed data to run facial recognition searches those include using artist's sketches editing images to add is in lips and searching for look alike. So to me, this seems like if people are already a little shaky on the USA facial recognition tack, this is obviously another point to say, hey, maybe this isn't the best thing. I mean if you were. Night witness go. Hey, get a little, Ben FOX Ruben, this should be able to show a picture of Ben FOX and since he's so well known. Maybe of course, one of the cases actually was Harrelson, David Schwimmer look, lot of people like that. So the idea of saying, this person looks like another person would be usable in the police sense. The idea that computers doing it and potentially getting wrong. Again. It's that final step if, if for some reason, the police are deploying arresting drones. Yeah. I think there's a real problem there. But if there's a person Dan going, this is completely wrong, or this is completely right? At least it should be due process after that. Yeah. I think that, you know, the, the idea that this was proposed in the first place is facial, recognition tech is supposed to be more accurate or more credible than the human, I'd sometimes or it's able to pick certain things up, like, for instance, if you're wearing a different pair of glasses if you have longer hair, dyed, your hair. There are all sorts of different ways to maybe mess with the human eye, which facial, recognition tech is expected to be able to just kind of. Sift through unfortunately with this study seems that, you know, hey, maybe they're messing around with it a little too much. Next up one. Switch to a different subject. We are happy to report, the no Facebook, certainly not listening to your conversations. Not that important seen it actually tested out, this urban legend. I was forced to talk into my phone for about a week and a half trying to get advertisements about chainsaws. And no. I didn't get any advertisements about chainsaws new found no evidence that this is actually real love. The article about this, the point that this would be crazy illegal. Let's not forget that illegal, forget the idea that oh yeah. This would be creepy. It would cost Facebook trillions of dollars and ruining their model entirely that have been breaking the law, this Hauer amount of time that would be just amazingly bad for Facebook. When it comes to the press. So if they're crazy enough to do it, then, yeah, they should be. It's a good point that you mentioned that this would actually cost the company, a lot of money, and there would in fact, be some sort of footprint to show that Facebook is digesting that information that it's actually gobbling up audio recordings from two billion of its users you even several hundred million of those users, there would be some sort of data process that we, we would be able to notice, and unfortunately, security, researchers haven't found that if the accuracy aspect of these ads. I think that's what makes people scared, but it's links to your friends searches that you're, you're looking for, because your friends are looking for friends of friends that kind of weird amazing profile that can create all this data on top of that just reminds me I was going to buy car. All of a sudden it's thinking about buying a Honda Accord. They were everywhere, didn't mean that they weren't there all the time. I just didn't notice them as much right? Wonder if there's a psychological element of I was just talking about cookies and others ads for cookies. But you might not have noticed it before because you're talking about pizza. Yeah. And it's a good point. Alfred ING in his story talked about the. Fact that Facebook doesn't actually have to listen to you at already has a ton of data about you already. But anyway, if you want to read more about these stories, check them out on CNN Ben FOX river on that bridge. Carey. Oh, jeez. All right. You threw me off. Thanks for listening.
