MLB Reportedly Exploring Prototypes of Pre-Tacked Baseballs

"A report out in the past couple of days. That major league baseball has begun. Disseminating prototypes of pre-tax baseball's to solicit play your feedback. A represents an early step and potentially developing a new baseball to address concerns from pitchers about grip inconsistency now this was confirmed by new york mets pitcher rich hill that they had reviewed prototypes about a week and a half ago l. A. dodgers pitchers were also shown the balls while they were playing in new york and the san francisco giants are expected to receive them during their series against the mets. This week as well richhill said quote. I think they're getting. They're they're working on it. And i know they're going to come hopefully to a good resolution and quote so although the current process still very much in the preliminary stages pre-tax baseball's so or balls treated with a substance that gives them a slightly or tacky feel for better grip have been sources speculation and investigation for a couple of years.

San Francisco Giants expected to sign infielder Tommy La Stella

"Reaching an agreement or in conversations trying to sign. Ah, pretty good player, and it'll be the longest deal that far out. Assigned anyone to in his tenure is Giants president of baseball Ops and it's Ah, Tommy lost Ella, the former Oakland A. The former and I'm Angel. What do you know about this? One of the details of this and what do you think of the movie Carrie not just the longest deal. But according to Susan Slusser, the sample Scott Chronicle who just put this out on Thursday morning could be the biggest deal the giant have given out under far anxiety is she Saying it's in the neighborhood of 19 million. I had heard really close to what jerks and pro far got from the San Diego Padres, which was three years 21 million. And so right around that three years 20 million years, beginning gaining 6.5 7 million average annual value, which to me eyes a little bit surprising because the Giants don't like to make long term commitments. This is going to be the first player that they've really said You were going to be a part of the future when we think that we can win again. And I think that Tommy lost Ella It's not just a win in 20 to 2022 or 2023 move. It's also a hey, Let's see what we can do in 2021. Let's see if you know the Padres of the Dodgers get severe injuries or something chaotic happens where there's issues with them where the Giants are all of a sudden challenging for the second wild card spot because the NL East is going to be tough. There's gonna be teams that emerge from there, but you look at this light up and Tommy was selling. Let's assume he hits leadoff for the Giants against right handed pitchers. You remember lineup that has Mikey's Trump Ski Brandon Belt, Alex Dick. Person Tommy La Stella and Brandon Crawford probably getting down in the seventh race lot. That's gonna be really good. That's gonna be a really, really tough light up on these pictures in the National League. And so the patients the plate discipline the amount of balls that are in play with these guys. It's just a group that kind of syncs up really well, so he was always going to be the most obvious edition. And I think that it's no surprise to anyone who follows the Giants, whose followed far anxieties tenure that he was the guy they ultimately settled on for their left handed back. Yeah, I think the question

"I think the gate Capital is going to be one of the top three biggest stories of the final 15 games. And I think that he's going to manage these games, much like you've seen other young managers managing the postseason in recent years. You know where you're pulling starters early where your tactics are a little bit different, where your pinch hitting in the certain fourth inning of games to try and get the matchup when you can. I wouldn't be shocked if the Giants were pinch hitting in the second or third inning today, if they got a match up they liked against Clavin churches because These are seven games. So every little strategical move the gate capture makes every tweak that he brings to the lineup is going to be under the spotlight. It's gonna be fun to watch because he's really gained a lot of credibility with giant fans during this hot stretch where, you know the team went from 8 16 back to 23 22 his clawed its way back into the postseason conversation, but You're right. Gabe Kapler is going to be the biggest story or one of the biggest stories moving forward for the Giants season 15 games for him to show Why far Holmes I brought him in. And you know what? Carrie, Looking on the other side. Jace Tingler. Same way a rookie manager. Both these guys are really under pressure. Of course, San Diego has a little bit more breathing room, but You know, you look at Jason Tingler taken over this team, and he's done a magnificent job and he could easily be the manager of the year in the National League is one of them. Final question Here carry. You know when we talk about a double header. It's so important to win the first game. In your mind. Tell me your thoughts about this double Piter, and how much an important it is for the San Francisco Giants. Well, you gotta split. You absolutely have to split Bill and I know that they'd love to take game one particularly up against clever Inger and I don't know if it's limiting game too. But if it is that makes him one all that much more important, because diplomats Asai Young candidate he probably won't win it with the way that Trevor Bauer and Yu Darvish pitching this year, But Goodness, he is so fun to watch. And I think that you know, from a watchability standpoint, he might be my favorite pitcher in the National League. But, you know, it puts all that much more importance on Game one with your ace going and Johnny Cueto with a lineup shaking out the way you want it to. And Alex Dickerson Mikey's terms, he Justin Smoak the left hand hitters in there. I think that you know the giant need to split and their best opportunity is probably going to be in this first game to pick up that win. Carrie once again Thanks for taking some time off. I know Marty wants to say goodbye to you also. Yeah, boy, carry you sound very awake today. This is he's fired up. Marty had my morning coffee. "July 26 1970 was Johnny Ventura. Landis a paid us that's kind of a cool note that this has happened one other time in baseball history. How about this one? Alex Dickerson 16 total bases yesterday. His 16 total bases are the most by a player in San Francisco Giants history. The only other player to do that. Willie Mays when he hit four home runs back in April of was in April. 30 in 1961 hey and four homers in that game against the Braves. Anyway, that's the only other time a San Francisco giant has had has had 16 total bases. It's actually the first time a giant has hit. Think they know it was first time the Giants have had a player with four extra base hits in a ball game since Barry Bonds did it back in 2002 on, he did it in Colorado. He also hit three home runs and hit a double, like Alex Dickerson did 23 runs in the ballgame for the Giants, the most it ties for the most in San Francisco Giants history. They did it back in 1990. Again that ties of San Francisco record. Alex Dickerson is the first player to score five runs and drive in five runs for the Giants since Phil Weintraub did it in 1944 against the Brooklyn Dodgers. And again I told you the notes about Alex Dickerson, raising his batting average 40 points is slugging 148 points and his o p s from 6 94 to 80 all in one ball game and like they weren't the only guys to do anything last night, Yet Longoria drove in a couple of ready A couple of hits and drove in a run. Scram Ski A couple of hits drives in a run. Brandon Belt did not drive in a run but goes three for three with a walk in the time that he's in there knots around three doubles at course field so pretty good victory and again, the biggest thing coming out of this ball game. Maybe the fact that the Giants are now in sole possession of third place following yesterday's ballgame, so pretty spectacular stuff. I thought pretty fun stuff and got a decent outing out of Kevin Gausman. It's gonna be Logan Web today who took a loss in his last outing. It's an afternoon ballgame. Actually, 12 10, so little day ball. Get away day from Colorado. Right here on can be our 1045 and 6 80 will have that first pitch for you. He'll be opposed by Kyle Freeland Giants haven't seen a lefty in a little bit. It's like teams are lining up these writings against them. They're hidden left. He's pretty damn good, so I would I would love to see them. Get back to 500. How good would that be? See them. Get to 500. Here it was. Get what? They're at s O. There were 35 games 25 ball games to play yesterday. It was told Murph 36 2 places if you know 14, And what do you say? If you go 14 in 10 or 14 and 12, you might have a pretty good shot. But if you go 15 and 11 seems I can probably get in for sure it may be that razor thin. With how bunched up Everything is across baseball getting into those final, but it's a final four playoff spots. I guess if you're going all the way down to the eighth seed, so it's gonna be bunched up. It's going to be real tight for these teams battling it out, and I wonder when I guess we're going by win percentage. Have they discussed whether or not if a team comes down to a tie on the final day of the season? Are we getting AH, you know a game. What we normally see in game 1 63 game. 61 toe can end up with that, because I wondered about that, for like a second place spot like for the Giants. Go for it, Man. Go for second place. Let's go take down the Padres, despite how much artillery they may have added at the trade deadline anyway, all stuff we're going to talk about and and hear about today. Lots to get to because Gabe Kapler had some thoughts about yesterday's ballgame. Alex Dickerson the most I mean what? He's a blast, right? He's fun. He's fun when he hits his hilarious when he talks. He's get that sort of frumpy sort of funny looking face out there. The uncanny America people just call him the dick. We gotta Dick chant going for him. He hits three home runs. Giants will have Dick Dave's got all saved up there. So we got plenty more for you on this morning, and we'll hear from Alex sticker similar from Gabe Kapler, and we'll hear from Brandon Crawford. No, Don Solano on the post game last night, but again, Alex Dickerson, three home around 16 total bases. No Giant is done that since Willie Mays hit four home runs in a ballgame back in 1961 on the other side, we'll hear from those guys. We also talked about the MBA. What went on last night about that The Denver Nuggets come all the way back. They win the Siri's In seven. They scored only 30 points in the second half of that game. That's insane, and also don't tell the Boston Celtics. They're not supposed to be there. That is a dangerous, dangerous team in the Eastern Conference built for the tournament, and they're playing good basketball. They took it to nothing lead yesterday as well, So we'll stick with the baseball on the other side. We'll have to talk a little football later because we're getting closer and closer. But the rumors about Alvin Comm arrogant moved out of New Orleans. There's reason to believe that maybe the Saints could get better value on him than the Carolina Panthers got with Chris. McCaffrey and I'll tell you what I mean about that a little bit later, plenty more. Coming up. It's a Wednesday morning can be our 1045 and 6 80 year listening to the sports leader, go through your morning routine with copes. The leadoff spot is on your.

"Covers the San Francisco Giants for the Bay Area News group. We welcome in carry to the Tolbert, Kruger and Brooke Show joins us. It's all guests on the whom I guess line. Carrie, We always appreciate your time. A man Thank you for joining us. Thanks for having me guess. But obviously we started talkin the show talking about Gabe Kapler and his misadventure. We're going to get Tyler Rogers last night so we will start. Our conversation with you about that. When it comes to buy in for and credibility. Four. Gabe Kapler. Do you think that breaks down purely into the young guys are like, Hey, man, I'm just I'm trying to make my way into the game so things might be unconventional, but I'm going to roll with it. And then the older guys, You know the bell. So Longoria's What have you for those guys They have to buy in what's happening if they choose to, or, you know for them. Gabe Kapler's credibility might be a thing is. I know you can't talk to the players because of the way things are right now, But do you get a sense that what happened last night? Might undermine his credibility with certain guys, or just might completely crush it with others. I get the sense that it's a much much bigger issue outside of the clubhouse and inside because it's really not that it's really not that bad because You're talking about a point in the game when the outcome was already decided, so players see that miscue. They see that Tyler Rogers was left out there. I think they're probably wondering, Hey, why was Roger's out there so long? But it's worse with Giants fans because Gabe Kapler's trying to succeed Bruce Bochy here and trying to follow in the legacy of a legend, and he messed up the rule that endeared Bruce Bochy two Giants fans back in 2010 at Dodger Stadium. And so no one on this current roster was on the team. Back then no one knew that. That's why Bruce Boat He initially became so beloved because he's solo victory, a Dodger Stadium in 2010. And so I think that Giants fans had that long term perspective, whereas in the clubhouse okay. It was a 12 6 game clearly was getting away from us. If it happens again? Yes, that's a concern. But one time you know you can live with that. You know, Cap has mentioned the guys. I mean, not that I was telling them anything they didn't know, but he has very little experience in 2018. Phil's went six and 18 in September and just died. 2019. Phil's lost nine of 12 to end the year. You know they're I think they're 18 and 34 was their combined record in September, the last two seasons under Gabe Kapler. What kind of manager I mean, how good of a manager or how bad of a manager is Gabe Kapler. Do we know right now, when we say with any definitive I mean they that Phillies team the first year was not very good, and he got it to be about roughly 500. But then they added a lot of guys including Bryce Harper, and I think they didn't really improving. Also. How good a manager's cap. Yeah, I think it's gonna be hard to know right away because you look at the open that the Phillies had 2018 and 2019 and it was disastrous. I mean, they were asking Nick Vincent to get high leverage out last year in September. Next incident was a giant cast off from a team that won 77 games. So I would love to see what gave Catherine looks like, What a confident open. I'm not sure that he has one right now. I don't know that the Giants have enough quality arms down there. To help him navigate the 7th 8th and ninth innings on a regular routine basis. I think that this rosters and such a talent decision see compared to the rest of nationally West, the D backs the Padres and the daughter's in particular that it might take a full extra year to know, But But what did strike me is? I think most managers would have gotten Tyler Rogers out of the game earlier. I think that after after Manny Machado walked, maybe give him one more batter, but that Tommy Sam's single That should sound the alarm because Roger's had already pitched on Wednesday. He'd already thrown one inning in the ninth on Thursday. He's probably tired and go get go get Trevor. God go get a strike out. Go get someone to get you another ground ball where you're not playing with chance, like you are with Tyler Rogers about this weird soft contact that he tends to give up. Yeah, I think that a maid still early. Carrie and the two guys I was looking at where De Bon and Rogers because they're supposed to be the Swiss army, knives of the offense and the defense or the pitching staff in the offense, and they really haven't got up too. Good starts either of them, but it's still early. But I just think they may have way overestimated what Rogers is capable of, because I think they thought, well, he's a guy that could pitch to winnings. It could be an opener and coming on back to back nights, and he could do this. And I don't know that he's I don't know He's that guy. I think he could be capable. I think he's a could be a picture in your bullpen. I'm not serious, capable of doing everything they thought he might be able to Dio. Yeah, I'm right there with you, You know, To be honest, I'm I'm probably guilty of overestimating Rogers fell because of how good he looked during spring training. I mean, this guy was lights out. Every bat was incredibly awkward. But then you get into summer camp and he started to see the contact get a little harder and then you get to Dodger Stadium and you're facing good hitters and all of a sudden Some of those ground balls find holes and time of Rogers is not the picture I would shift with. I think the Giants are making a mistake by shifting with Tyler Rogers because you can't predict how guys we're going to hit a guy who comes from that arm angle. It's just impossible. And so I think that some of the balls have found holes and right now, you know he isn't as bad as the suggestion. But he certainly probably isn't that eighth or ninth inning guy that they thought he was going to be either. Well carry crowd. Li Berry a newsgroup joining us here in the Tolbert, Kruger and Brooke Show. We're talking Giants. What was the explanation for leaving Rogers out there for as long as he wass So I think it came down to watching the Oakland A's and Angels on opening night out of the Coliseum and seeing the incredible play that battles and a mat Chapman made where the Angels started with a runner on second base. They get a ground ball to the right side of the infield models and flips it across the diamond and throws to that Chapman over third base, thereby negating that runner over on second base to start beginning it's okay..

"NewsRadio seven hundred w w my county Saturday midday. Cincinnati Reds looked pretty good last night. And maybe just maybe the hittings coming around at any rate last night seven nothing win over the San Francisco Giants last night Louis castio what if he's not pitching better than anyone in at least the National League. Now, I don't know who is career high eleven strikeouts. Only two balls hit out of the infield. And I think he went about five and a half six innings and the first time reds of back to back shutouts in a longtime, but back to Custodio ERA believe one point seven six in fifty six and a third innings here to talk about that. And all things reds is our reds. Guru yeti Armbruster yet. Thanks for calling in. No problem. I can't deal with unbelievable last night. Again. You know, you're right. And in watching the game, I forget, which one of the. The announcer said at that you could just tell that this guy was in a groove. I mean, he walked a couple into I dating. But boy after that, he just bored down. Let me ask, you know, you watch these things closely. Don't you think he's the best pitcher at least in the major leagues as of now? Maybe the one loss record isn't as good as it would be if he had a team that was hitting for him. But man, he's just lights out. It seems like every time he goes out that one seven sixty third best in all the baseball. Not just the National League last night. Here's what he did. So well he faced twenty five batters. And he got sixteen. First pitch strikes. You know, that's gotta get strike one. And he did it sixteen pounds twenty five batters in struck out eleven he's unbelievable. He has seventy strikeouts. Already this season bird best in baseball. Well, here's the big thing with him. His changeup is unbelievable last night. He had a forty change up. They swung times. His is about ninety seven last night. He's changed was about eight. You got a nine mile hour different than it. Looks the same. And it just had those guys they didn't know what to do with it. And that's that's been a pitch all year. And it's a, you know. I m I remember Mario Soto. They say this is about as good as Mario sodas change up. He's you know, I remembering. But I wasn't following that close back then I'm old enough to remember him in. Boy, he threw some fire to problem is. I think he blew his arm out. Hopefully that doesn't happen with Louis Custodio. I referenced his one loss record actually pretty darn good one four loss one. But again, more importantly that microscope. Ick ERA, do you think he had that he can stay in this groove, you know, hopefully for the whole year, but maybe at least till the all star break. Well, I would think so I mean, right. You said the all star break right now at the voting was today. He would definitely be an all star. Oh, yeah. They're watching his innings. He threw six innings last night. I think a hundred and three pitches something like that. So it's not like he's being overextended and guys don't throw that many pitches anymore. So it's not like he's wanting to seventh and eighth inning. Every game. I think you'll be fine. Now go into a slump. I'm sure he will everybody does. It's just a matter of how you get out of it. If you lose two in a row, you gotta have to get through it. And I think that we go back to training. I remember talking to you then when they named him starter. Okay. He didn't have the best springs, but he still has the best stuff, and they believe in. And they said, you're our guy. He started opening day in hasn't disappointed since he's been incredible. Yeah. It's it's been fun to watch him too. I mean, those guys said last night he was in a big old groove. Let me ask you this keeping on the subject of pitching a little bit of a brouhaha this week with Rossio. Glaciations and what his role with the team is going to be David bell as all managers. Do said. Hey, it was nothing. We worked it out, blah, blah, blah, blah. What do you think about his role going forward? The think he'll go back to being the traditional closer where he thrived. I mean, he absolutely thrived. Now. I mean, he's sitting that one one loss five with a four point three four ERA. What do you think came out of that meeting yet? And what do you think Rossio Claes's role will be going forward? Shut up and do what you're told. Tell us what you really think they need you. If they deemed that the eighth inning is the most critical winning go out there and do your job. I mean claims that he had in my mind. That's the mindset if you're gonna pout because you're not coming in with nobody on base into night. Because all you wanna do up saves for your numbers. Screw it. Get out there and pitch contract. Do your job. Do I wish he'd just come in in the ninth when you know in get seventy or whatever I do, but that's not when they need him. And that's not how baseball's trending anymore. They're using guys when they needing the most and. You know, I don't know what's going to happen going forward. I think he'll I think somebody needs to get to him and say look straighten up your he's got the stuff. It's not like, you know, all of a sudden he's lost it pitch. I think they still use the way they've been using. Maybe maybe they give him some saves holding the ninth inning just to get a little more confidence there. But in the long run, I think that's how they're going to use them. And that's how I think we're gonna using being piracy's last time, I checked Mr. Castellini was signing his paycheck, and if they want him to fetch water, I mean, that's what I think he should do obviously that's ridiculous example, but I agree with you. But they need him. I mean, they need him either in that ninth inning closer role or eight and or ninth inning closer role. Don't you think? Yes. Absolutely. And I get I get you get your feelings hurt a little bit you go out there, you'd get bashed. I get it. But you know, suck it up and go do what you do. If you need to get five or six game, go get five or six outs. That's what you have to pay the one guy. Who's who's really impressed me this year out of the bullpen is Michael Renzo? Oh, yeah. Come into the season. I was not the biggest Michael fan. But he has he has really pitched he's got a one seventy one yard and he'll come on for multiple innings and do well. And then go out and play left field. If you need him too. Yeah. He's I'm looking at the stats here. Not see. No here. He is batting. He's got batting average of. Not that good looks like no one forty three. But on base percentage of fifty any too bad for a pitcher, and he seemed to get some timely hits. He's fine. He's a he's a great weapon to have. But I've always said you got pitch. I worry about the other stuff later and he's starting to pitch now and pitch. Well, it'd be very effective and this bullpen is good. And I think they're going to be better as a season where they just know pitchers got deeper and deeper into the game. So these guys are taxed by August and September and right now already a little bit. Innings but that needs to get more more daughters have been good very good. They're just not going deep enough, and they need to hopefully that improves. Hey, let's switch gears talk a little bit about hitting Yossi L. I mean, I was doing cartwheels when they got him because he's exciting player. But he's now sitting at a one nine eight one ninety eight average playing every day still, and he does seem to get some timely hitch to what do you think the reg do with him? I mean, how long do they stick with a guy, and he ain't the only one, but how long do they stick with a guy? That's got an average like that. Well, he was centerpiece of that trade stick within the whole year. I mean, I don't I don't see them. Wind up unless he sitting to six, you know at all star break or something. I think he's at right field almost every day. You know, look back the last seven games he's picked up a little bit hidden over to ninety. He does five home runs in nineteen. What he's doing? He's. Swinging a missing a lot thirty four strikeouts. But like you said, Mike, it's just not him. The whole team is like a collective small, and you know, hopefully once a couple players get going. He gets going back and looked at in into pay and career in his career March and April he's only hitting around two thirty. So he starts the warm up is the weather warms up. So hopefully, we'll see a little better things here in May, June, July, everything will get better, and he's not going to be here, but one year anyway, we just got. For a year. And then you know, he'll move on and get ready who's going to play their next year. Another notoriously slow starter, Joey Votto, I mean he's sitting at two oh six batting average. What's his on base percentage? Three thirty three. You gotta think he's going to get hot pretty soon to well. We hope so I mean, he didn't have the greatest year last year for Joey Votto standards for anybody else. It was fine. Right. The funny part is I looked up on books. Baseball the ball actually harder this year than last year. But he's also striking out at almost twenty three percent of the time. So just not making as much contact, obviously. And you know, we buddy do pop up the first basement. So the first career few weeks ago? I don't know is it age thirty five years old is going to be thirty six by the end of the season. So, you know, bother time is undefeated as you know. Right. He really takes care of himself though. He does. But we'll see do. I think he'll get better. Absolutely. Will we see him when he was his MVP form, you know, two years ago three years ago, probably not, but he can still be ineffective guy. He still has to get on base. You know, he lied off a lot. And if you're going to do that you have to get on, you know, and I still I'd never Joey Votto. No. But at some point, you know, if it's still like this at the end of June, you really have to start to worry. Yeah. I mean, we all remember you. And I've talked about it a couple three years ago. He had a second half that get close to four hundred. So you never know, but not dwell on the negative, but they got to do something with the hitting worse. Batting average in the majors team batting average to twelve twenty six out of thirty teams the lowest in on base percentage to ninety twenty third in the league in slugging percentage. So they got to pick it up. But one of the ask you about a human Suarez looks like he's coming around a little bit. He's starting to play a lot better. Knows batting average is what like the two forty eight now. And that's that's pretty good on this thing. But in the last week, it's three fifty he had four months nine Rb is a week. And this guy was an all star. And there's a reason he's a good player. He still young. I mean, you worry about Joey Votto because of his age, but you don't worry about swerves because of his age. Do you worry about Jose Peraza? I think both of them will hit when the season's done. You know, you you the old saying you play to the back of your baseball card. Whereas a good. A real good season in you know. Nobody thought it would be better than five hundred still think there'll be a five hundred team since that awful start their game or two over five. Right. So you know, they just need to get on a St.. Maybe this is it maybe if you sweep the giants back a little bit. And then next week's going to be telling because you have the cubs and the dodgers in town. Those are going to be big games and the cubs. There's not a team playing any better baseball right now than the cubs. So you have to go in and get on a winning streak go in and take..

And in heated arguments in public over family matter we are deeply embarrassed by the situation in resolving the issue. I do think Bob that it is fair to notes that while the San Francisco Giants have released a statement. This is an official giants statement. This is a statement from Lehman Perry. Larry, Pam beer. I still think a statement from the San Francisco Giants is is forthcoming or maybe this is what they believe for now. Anyway, and the short term passes as an official statement from the San Francisco Giants stationary. They have not. Email this out. Okay. To us our and or senators via text message. So, you know, whether it's on official stationery with the giants letterhead I that I cannot answer I'm getting photocopies from the hardworking producers. Thank you, Tim, Mike, hurricane Biard. But. The text is. This is a statement from the giants, and it is word from Larry and Pam beer. So and it's it is similar to.

"R dot com. Are we have a developing situation here concerning the San Francisco Giants and specifically Larry Baer and the optics are not good. This comes from TMZ. There is video that shows. Giant CEO, Larry Baer today. Maybe no more than an hour or so ago getting involved in a physical altercation with the woman TMZ is reporting that this woman is his wife. Pam the video shows Larry Baer and his team Z reports his wife, Pam. Engaging in a loud arguments. Near AT and T park at the yard. And at one point Larry Baer is tipped to take the cell phone away. From the woman reported TMZ, bears, wife, Pam. During the struggle for the phone. Larry Baer, you can clearly see in the video. Knocks the woman. Reported as Pam is wife by TMZ out of the chair and she screams. Oh my God. Help. Larry bears and seen in the video walking away from the physical altercation with the phone telling his wife, according to TMZ, quote, stop Pam, stop the woman reported as Lear's Pam while on the ground says, oh my God. Oh my God. According to TMZ, the person who shot the video tried to intervene in the altercation to break it up, and that was cooperated by in other witness, according to TMZ, we have reached out to the giants organization for comment, but this is a very new and very fast developing story, and it is one that is going to dominate the bay area sports scene for at least Bob the next forty eight to seventy two hours, but the video is out there, and it is not a good look by any stretch of the imagination. For Larry Baer. No. That's not a good look at all. No, that's incredibly unfortunate and incredibly just sad. And it's one of those deals where I I don't speak about things that I have no idea about and I have no idea what? Now. We are seeing this together in real time. And even though we are separated we both had the exact same. The exact same reaction, which is. Oh, no. This is not good. It is. And with us knowing they bear on a professional and somewhat of a personal level. We don't exchange Christmas cards myself and Larry Baer. Is going to sound dumb. But that's never stopped me before this is not something I would expect from him. Anyone is capable of anything. Unfortunately, even even our worst impulses. But to see this video from bear who's always publicly carried himself with with an air of of. Class and decorum. I would dare say he's a gentleman to see this video is quite disturbing quite quite disturbing. So as this develops, and it is festival. Any any reaction we get or any statement we get from the giants? We will pass it along quickly. But you could see for yourself at TMC dot com or ever you. Get your news on the internet. The video is out there and the video is not good. So as this develops we will. That you know, that's the it's that's an odd. Right. Turn to the toyed department of life. Was ready to talk about forty Niners mock draft NFL free agency and forty dollars about and changes to possibly if a replay. But sure sake right now seems to be on the back burner. And just the video and it's only twenty seconds in length. The video is very very damning. I mean there there is. No, hey, that looks like or hey, you know, maybe this isn't that big of a deal. It is you can see bear walking away with the phone is obviously steamed and upset. His wife is is on the ground. And it is by Larry bears doing. Okay. This is one where. Is going to be suppressed conferences and some statements coming out, and there is going to be some. I would say some people taking taking a leave of absence from from their post ban. I just I don't I don't I don't know. I don't know. How you just let the slag I really don't know. I'm. I'm stunned absolutely stunned. That's the it's one of those where you know, we get into this to talk about sports, and we enjoyed talking about sports, and we have fun. A lot of times talking about sports. And then you have you have some relief stuff jump into sports, and we see that in the NFL and the NBA in MLB, and it's just you know, you even be like Penn State and sin tiger. And some of the just like, man. That's not why I got into sports. I mean, just not not our area of expertise or info or situations were in were have intimate knowledge of it. And. Man. That's that's not. That's unfortunate. They're really know. Where to like I said there's nowhere to write turn that one. And then get into, you know, hey, Eric arms. They got his fifth year of his contract extended. So now, this is this is going to dominate this is absolutely going to dominate. Again, this is from TMZ. They spoke with bears wife. Pam the woman that is thrown to the ground by Larry Baer. She says, quote, we were having a family fight about someone in my family. And that is it. So that is the. The latest on this new and quickly developing story. I will say this is obviously a private matter between two adults. Whether it is just something. It doesn't gloss over the fact that you can clearly see that there is a physical confrontation, and Pam bear is was that expecting and was not. Ready for a physical confrontation for the phone? So which was taken out of her hand by giants CEO, Larry Baer and done in a very aggressive manner where she was taken to the ground. So. Yeah. Rather talk about Gary plumbing, quite frankly, I thought. The the oddest thing that we were gonna talk about today is that Bryce Harper told lay beyond bell to come. Join him in Philly, and I'm like, okay, man. What are the Phillies doing because now they're now they're thinking outside the box at a level. I hadn't even thought. Well, if Bryce Harper had come here would he then tell and Tonio Brown to come and play wide receiver for the diners. Is that Bryce Harper is branching out into now. But see then you couple that with all the reactions and grading of Cuyler Murray. Who's got a baseball football thing. Going are ready. And I'm like, okay. My mind is blown what is what is happening right now as much to handle. Yeah. Just not that stuff that we can think about and move on about and all that stuff. So while we are obviously not just the two of us knuckleheads on the air. But the entirety of the KGB our staff while we are keeping tabs and awaiting word from the giants or possibly Larry Baer on this new and quickly developing story. We will sort of dip dip our toes into other issues and ran across this little while ago. And you would think Bob that this is a part of the. Negotiations for Antonio Brown. We have heard and to my surprise we've heard that the market for Antonio Brown is somewhat soft in terms of what type of draft pick would would be enough or or teams are offering the Steelers with think to offer the Steelers for the services of wide receiver Antonio Brown right now, it is seemingly holding third or fourth round pick. Well, according to Steve wash of the NFL network. He said on his Twitter account at the Niners. John Lynch said that they have had no the Niners conversations with Steelers wide receiver about Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown. Steve why she said I have been told by some sources who would know that as of now the Niners won't be in play for Antonio Brown. I have a hard time believing. They don't have some thought or wouldn't be in some sort of play for Tonio Brown. How how how deeply they would get involved in it how they value him. I don't know. But I have a hard time believing Niners would not even think of the possibility of Antonio Brown playing wide receiver for them. I understand that. He is close to thirty. I understand it. Antonio brown. Is Antonio Brown on the field and off the field? But he's too good of a player. I just stay to not be in play for him. As Steve why should NFL network is reporting. Well, here's the thing that I haven't talked about this are you or have you cleared Antonio Brown from a personality standpoint. Like, I'm not the latest book the football player. I totally want. I'm talking some of the kids stuff girlfriend. Steph speeding stuff, you know, sideline stuff. Like just where are you on Antonio Brown character wiser person, personally, I think a lot of the sideline stuff in the extracurricular stuff with the Steelers? I think that had everything to do with his relationship with Ben Rothlisberger. And how Ben Rothlisberger conducts himself as the quarterback in the supposed leader of the Pittsburgh Steelers. I don't think that truly excuses Antonio Brown from some of his behavior on the sidelines or with the Steelers, but I understand it. Because listen, we we know about Ben Rothlisberger. And he does not seem to be the easiest do to work with. So I will to a certain extent give Antonio Brown a pass on how he conducted himself with the Steelers the much more problematic part is off the field stuff. And this is one of those where I go you tread with caution. And you don't go crazy and truly overpay for him. But if you value him as a wide receiver in India is is a very valuable cast pass catcher. Then you just gotta do your own investigating in good faith, and you have to have some faith in the law enforcement officers in south Florida that he is Brown head to head to deal with and you'd have to take that. If nothing has come up in the way of charges or anything of that nature. Then not that. He's holy innocent of what he has been accused of. But there there doesn't seem to be any smoke. So you can't necessarily assume this fire. You dig what I'm saying? Yeah. Except though that if you're the forty Niners are you jumping into another do I really want to go down the Reuben foster Ray McDonald road. Yeah. But I think you have to infernos though, while Antonio Brown and the the last the last altercation. Know was with the mother of his child, and he reportedly pushed her out of the doorway. I think it's kind of unfair. To put him in the same boat as Reuben foster who clearly who clearly put hands on on a woman, and and and who's the other guy on blinking, Donald Ray McDonald, who is just an out now. Horrible horrible person Antonio Brown in my mind hasn't gotten to that point yet. So I don't know if it's fair to compare him to those two guys. Yeah. And I I'm not doing that. What I'm saying is if you're the forty Niners. There's you know, George Kittle any other things around him. No, okay. Gimme a wide receiver. That's like George kit hall. You know, like, I don't want anyone with anything. What are you? What are your other options? Well, no. And and that's that's what you have to look at is VERA other options, are you could you have a lot of draft capital. You could draft wide receivers. And try to find your wide receiver version of. Okay. If they see someone in the draft TK Metcalf that that fits that Bill. Then knock yourself out. You know Antonio Brown is better than any wide receiver in the draft. Right. Oh, no. No. But he doesn't come with. Well, you don't know. But the baggage for Antonio Brown is out there. It is present with these new guys coming into the NFL. You just don't know got a couple of things here on the. A very quickly developing and somewhat disturbing that someone very disturbing. Story the video where there is seen getting into a physical altercation with his wife. Pam concerning a over a cell phone and this happened in San Francisco about an hour and a half ago. This is from Evans serve Naski and his Twitter account. And I'll just read it verbatim. Just interviewed Larry Baer where he says, quote, my wife, and I headed unfortunate public argument related to a family member. And she had an injured foot and fellow for chair in the course of the argument. The matter is resolved. It was a squabble over a cell phone. Obviously, it is embarrassing beer said he has apologized to his wife, and the police were not contacted two witnesses here at the scene. Evans served Naski continues on his Twitter account to witnesses here at the scene said they intervene during the location and separated the two as the wife screamed for help that is consistent. The last thing. I just read here from Evans sheriff now skis Twitter account. That is consistent two witnesses at the scene said they intervened with the altercation between Larry Baer and his wife and separated the two. Who is the wife scream for help and is consistent with what TMZ as reported as they were the first to have the video of the incident and break the story, according to giants PR the team will be releasing a statement shortly just my own editorial comments. Larry Baer statement. Here does not does not match up with the video. Does it doesn't match up with the video? So this is an ongoing story and many more statements. We'll be forthcoming. Kmby are six hundred eighty sports leader. Brooks.

"San Francisco Giants coming in with a ten plus year offer to make the Philadelphia Phillies recognize that if they don't up their offer, then they're not going to get the player always worried that they were bidding against themselves. Turns out that they weren't not only where the giants in it. The Los Angeles Dodgers were in with a big short-term offer and Bryce Harper had to decide do I want to be a Philadelphia Phillies for thirteen years. I want to go to a team like the dodgers and potentially opt out after two when it was all said and done thirteen years three hundred thirty million dollars, full, no trade clause. He can retire affiliates. He want. That was Jeff passan ESPN insider on sportscenter with Kevin Gandhi. This is first and last on ESPN radio and the SPN app. I'm gave nights. All the no Drake was to me is not that big of a deal. It just gives the player a little bit more leverage. And. What? The term contract like this by the time that you're even thinking about a potential trade in a no trade clause. Even mattering baseball has their their five ten rights where with the same team for five years you've been in the embedded in the big leagues for ten years. You get the full Notre clause. Anyway, so the note trade clause that's just leverage for the player later if things aren't going, right? They want to get traded. Maybe the team wants to trade them. They have a little bit more say in where they end up landing, and Jeff has a great piece at ESPN dot com. Where the the the kind of the key theme throughout the entire piece is family, and how that was important to Bryce Harper insecure in that future for his family to the point where you know, Phillies ownership bringing their family bringing the Phillies owner bringing his wife on some of the go shooting trips from Philadelphia to Las Vegas to meet with Bryce Harper. And maybe it was the giants pushing Philadelphia to offer a little bit. More money. Maybe it was that huge offer reportedly close to forty five million dollars per year, which would have blown out the highest annual average contract per year, which is Zack rankings current contract. Little over thirty four million dollars per year. The dodgers coming with this huge offer along lengthy contract offer from the giants, but this just kind of seems a little unimpressive. It seems like they got to three hundred thirty million just to say they got to three hundred thirty million, and it becomes the largest total some contract in free agency. History of beats out the Giancarlo Stanton extension that he originally signed with the Marlins now, obviously he's playing with the Yankees. But over the course of thirteen years getting that average annual salary. It doesn't seem all that. Impressive. And what it says to me is that Harper had no interest in going through this process whatsoever. If you want to go through this process again, and he could have in two years could have made ninety million maybe over the course of three years upwards of one hundred million dollars over the course of that with a short term deal with a team like the dodgers. And then he would have gotten another bite at the free agency apple, but if he's looking around and going man, if this is this tedious, what's it gonna be like in three more years if I have three more years on me? So I think he wanted the longest deal you could get for the most money that he could get it while wallet ends up being fairly unimpressive. I think to most. Thirteen years three hundred million the annual average, not all that great. But he gets the long term contract that he desires, and if that's what it was important to him. It could also potentially help the Phillies add more free agents when we talk about this all the time in the NBA were they you know, guys are willing to take a little bit less. And granted the economics are going to be different. Just because there is a higher ceiling for bigger contracts like this because there are no such thing. There is no such thing. As a max contract in baseball. Like there is in the NBA, but only making twenty six million dollars over the course of really the heart of the deal in over the course of nine years, and he's only has ten million dollars base salary for the first year because he's getting twenty million of that in a signing bonus. It opens up the Phillies to potentially add more players as they go along and the Phillies have already had a pretty impressive off season as they've added JT real Muto at catcher, they've added g. Cigarroa at shortstop. So this was a team that finished last year in the National League east. They were below five hundred eighty and eighty two they finished in third place. Ten games behind the Atlanta Braves who won the division. So where does Philly fit in terms of the National League east, and what they're going to be doing this year? Mark Teixeira answered that last night on sports center as well..

"Very excited to talk to our next guest. Lefty for your San Francisco Giants Will Smith the Willie MAC award winner Will Smith. On kmby are. Well, how are you, sir? To talk to you. How's how's the off season the off season going good? I actually just became a ankle for the second time this Saturday. So that was that was pretty exciting for everything from -gratulations. I became an uncle for the first time in August. My my middle sister. I kid of a family family's pretty credible though. Right. Being an uncle, I know so much fun. You get all the up about the risk. Yeah. You spoil them and toys, I'm loving it. So far, my niece is five months old. I'm loving every second of it. It's a lot of fun. I scare them on all the time. Very good. Have you been doing any hunting fishing? I was reading up on you you like you still hunting and fishing. Yeah. Still still. Actually got buddy over right now. We're we're cooking from me without a Wednesday. Would you go get because I've just started to get into that that that part of my life. I just started taking archery lessons on awful it. But I'm very far away from a compound bow. That's our we we shall whitetail deer. We're just Jeremy what are we got back straps going right now, just beautiful. That's just absolutely outstanding fishing too. I mean, obviously what I wasn't playing pro ball. I had summers I could go fishing whatever I wanted. Yeah. No. I mean, that's that's outstanding. I was trying to get some tips. I'm talking to people who are into hunting and fishing just trying to get into it myself with a clean kills and just be very, it's very spiritual, right? Absolutely. Good lord. It's nice when you when you could kill it, cleaner, bonded, and. And me for your family. Now. I mean, this is it's a beautiful beautiful thing getting getting into business. I mean, first off congratulations, avoiding arbitration, the the one year deal that you signed this isn't anything new for you. It just seems every single year you're avoiding arbitration this is like three years in a row, but what's that process? Like for you. It's I guess it's not really that stressful. You know, I tell them I just I don't want to be a part of it. But it's not, you know, I don't really need to know every single day. What's going on just kind of feel on here? There are consider that you know, that's that's kind of their job. I'm the ball player. So I'll go play baseball yoga part of it. And you know, just let me know how it goes. Yeah. So it's not it's not a stressful thing for you. Because I've talked to a lot of guys my partner. Kevin Franson was describing arbitration for certain guys some guys take it as a very stressful time, and I completely understand that. And then the other guys who were just kind of mellow just let the business unfold. I'm Doug s. I would I would be that kind of guy. Just kind of let it unfold I've always said I play this game. I love what I do. I love showing up the ballpark every day. It's it's fun for me. Side of it doesn't really stress now. Because if you don't have to got taken away. That's okay. I still try to play. Yeah. Yeah. How much how much time? Do you take off in the season's over you? Right back to work quickly or do you like to take a couple of months off and relax. I try to. I try hardest to take a month. All but usually about that two week Mark kind of start getting stir crazy or something I need to go at least or or do something. I feel bad just sitting around. So I can make it about two two and a half weeks. And I've got to start doing something is it is it easing process for you. Do you just start getting up running or lift in? I mean what what's that process for you like to ramp up into spring training? Yeah. I mean, you know, when you first started up, I mean, it's just like a meal an easy jog, or I mean, you might just go to the local high school and walk the track or something do some stretches of flexibility stuff. The. To start lifting weights. Focusing on, you know, power phase, or, you know, quickness days and stuff like that. What's what what are your thoughts on the analytics, and as far as the game goes because it seems that the giants are going to go that route analytically we've talked a lot about. I mean, I'm this station. Talking a lot about maybe going into the opener style that we saw a little bit last year. Look as Romo Tampa. I just wanted to get your thoughts really on where you where your analytical with the analytical numbers in the game today. I'm really not that up today. I try to remind simple. I try to keep. This pitch gets this. I'm gonna just use this until me, otherwise, I keep me other the kiss method. All this seems like sometimes it's just over analyzing. You know, this is doesn't seem to me. I don't know. And I'm not out there with you guys on suit. But it just seems some of these numbers are just a little bit too too involved. Just let the guys go out and play. We don't think we have the calculate every single thing that happens. Yeah. I'm with you. I'm with you on that today. Right. But some guys love it. Some guys are just you know, numbers numbers guys. That's just you know, that kind of how about how about pitching have you quit around with some some of the pictures of me last year use the fastball lot wicked slider as well. But I mean, your change of can get I mean in the high eighties for sure is that something you're working on this off season. I'm definitely definitely working on not just up but all episodes in the off season. But yeah, if I could if I could get the develop a change up a little better, you know, that's just another pitch and other weapon. So bills you can use to get them off everything else. That's something that you also have any arsenals the curb. Aw, which would you use that about fifteen percent last year. Is that something you want ramp up this year? What what is it about your curveball? That makes you want to stay away from it. You know? I don't know we just when we got a pretty good catcher. When BUSTER put the down. Yeah. I mean, what's that communication? Like, I talked to a lot of guys about BUSTER Posey, obviously, very good leader in a communicator. But what's it like with your experience with him? It's been nothing. But good with me. You know, when I first got there, obviously, I got traded the middle of season. So, you know, we probably have first coupla things. We're just trying to feel each other out. What's not select to work with and stuff? Like that seeing stuff moves, but. Just building that relationship with them. You know, you try to you try to throw your pins to whenever you or talk to them after each child. Just to kind of see where we're at night this night. What we got this relationship and. And he he knows exactly every time. I shook BUSTER he goes through exactly what I was thinking. Sippy built throughout the seasons. Giants pitcher Will Smith candidate to join me here. The hot stove our on tonight as we're just chatting with twelve I was going on the off season getting ready for spring training at this time of the season. Well, I I'm very curious. What's his like for you, mentally? I mean, obviously last year was a little bit rough with the team heading into off season but heading into spring some things that you're looking forward to working on this year. I mean, anything to get better. Obviously, you don't really, you know, I guess one thing you just try to keep your whole game shirt where there'd be your PSAT's. They want to nail down your bullpens that day. In the ballpark are just trying to get better every day. I guess what are your thoughts? And I had mentioned this a couple of minutes ago. But what are your thoughts on the opener in baseball and team starting to adopt that philosophy? I don't really I don't know. I mean, if the if it works for some teams, I don't get to them. But when I'll just wait for posted tell me when the throw if it's the first sitting. I'll do. What is what's your thoughts on oracle park? No longer AT and T I've been slipping up on that already. Yeah. I thought that was supposed to meet you. I think it's gonna take a few times for people get used to the new name. Oh, that's pretty cool. Well, thank you very much for hanging out with me for a couple of minutes. I appreciate your time. Enjoy that back strap and the next time I catch up with you talk about hunting ourselves. Good. Thanks, sir. Appreciate you. All right there. He is lefty for your San Francisco Giants Will Smith stopping by for about ten minutes just catching up what he's doing this off season. See I like that man. He's an outdoorsman. It's something I'm trying to get into. I really am people right here laughing at me. You're not gonna be able to the I am. I am I'm hiking. I'm out there fishing starting to camp. I got a tent raff. I gotta Coleman tent. You know what I do? Sometimes just the practice. I set it up in the living room with weight plates, just to make sure I know how to make sure no what I'm doing get out there. He certifiers yet. No. But they do have this really cool outdoor survival. You can take all these kind of classes all over the place in the bay area. But you gotta get your what is Flint Flint. Yeah. I don't know. I want to be able to survive in the outdoors and make my live off the land. I'm so just spoiled with the city and Chipotle lay. Like, I wanna I wanna be able to go out there to fishing catch my own food. Let's wrong with that. There's nothing wrong with that idea of YouTube that wants to do the whole, okay? If it's the puck lips one day, I'm going to be the guy police did you ever see those things online so stupid. They're on Amazon ahead like this zombie apocalypse apocalypse kit that you can buy with like the hatchet and the and the water purifiers so dumb. But at the same time, you're right. I'm laughing at the same time. Oh, wait a minute. If it actually happened. I'm screwed. There's no way I would survive. I gotta learn these to learn these tools, and this is the first guys are going to when it hits the fan. I guys feel grown asked me. And I have to run to another man to protect me for the samba. Can't do your proactive about it. You're learning. How to do all that stuff? I'm watching Nelson. Become masterful added before the zombie. Apocalypse has whenever that is. Would it be off? "Now, if you're asking rather have a game seven, I think everybody would save garner. Nobody would argue with you there. Yeah. That's me. A question if the hall of fame was only based on. Clench? Bumgarner sh first time first ballot hundred percent in. No questions asked us like fourth in career postseason ERA through dicusss. But other things other than that. No. I wanna talk about I wanna talk about Bumgarner next contract because he's somebody who's probably going to get a lot of money. Right. I would say at least two fifty. No club that has committed more than twenty percent of its payroll to one player has won a World Series since two thousand and three I will ask if you know which team that is two thousand two thousand and three this team won the World Series. Florida marlins. And who was the player that made twenty percent of their Beckett. It was not was it. Let's see was Cabrera on that team. It was not him who the hell is it them? I only know is Josh Beckett dominated this has a. I am giving this trivia question. But the clue is this player has ties to the San Francisco Giants. To the current San Francisco Giants. Like, he's he's on the team. This person has ties to the current San Francisco Giants that is your clue. So he could be anything though. Very close ties to the San Francisco to the current San Francisco Giants this player does not play major league baseball any more. So he's a manager of some kind. He's not all these numbers Boji. She coaching the Padres back. Then right. Three. Maybe I'm not entirely positive anyways. I have no idea. Padraig is. Yeah, I would've guessed that. But wh what's his connection? His son is starting to turn. The giants Jericho Drake is all my that. Is set a distant connection. That was a really good trivia question. Close was a close connection. That's not close father. Yeah. Connection with the giants. It sounds like he's in the organization did work off morning. You're getting real grumpy when you say close connection with the giants. That's always oh, he's part of the organization is dead. Macos connection with the team. Very that means like he's in the organizations following the giants on a daily basis. Yeah.
