San Francisco Giants need win, help to reach playoffs after loss to Padres

"Of course, a disappointing lost by the San Francisco Giants. Today. 62 to 6 runs nine hits in San Diego two runs seven hits for the Giants three home runs by but Padres in this game two T's hitting his 17th. On. Tommy Pham had his third and then Mitch Moreland hit his second. So back to back homeruns solidified the wind in the ninth inning. Ah, big loss, and I think it was kind of a hangover yesterday after that, the second game of the double hitter. When the Padres came up with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on the trend, Charism home run and it just took the life out of them today. They just didn't have any spark with their bats. They just couldn't get anything going. Ah, baserunning steal by Du Bon and the fifth there was a blunder. They're trying to go from 2nd and 3rd on his own. He got picked off a third and they only had a couple chances there in the eighth inning, but the baths were silent. They only had seven hits on the On the day belt had to used Rimsky had two floors had won and Durban had one. And that was it, So their offense kind of been stymied. It just looked really dead today that this just looked defeated before the game even started. So we could talk about that game because a lot of things have happened now since the Giants lost 6 to 2 There now. 29 30. They must win tomorrow. That's the first thing the Brewers lose or the Brewers wind and knocked at cards to 29 29. The Giants will win. They'll be forcing ST Louis to play a double hitter on Monday at Detroit. Then the cards have to drop both games for San Francisco to get in. It's a scenario the Giants are eliminated with the lost tomorrow automatically. So 1st 1st things first they need to win to Marjorie Smiley on the hill for the Giants. We still don't know who the Padres they're throwing out there. There might be a bullpen committee game that means nothing to them. The Giants need to put a win together somehow some way tomorrow and watch what happens. Milwaukee is playing ST Louis. They beat him today.

Seattle Mariners game against San Francisco Giants postponed due to poor air quality amid wildfires

"The Seattle Mariners will not play in Seattle today or tomorrow because of the poor air quality. The pollution due of course to wildfires burning in the West is bad. I've lived here all my life I've never experienced Forest fire brushfire like this year's county resident Mike Martin, talking to Cairo seven TV about the destruction from the Sumner grade fire. It's scorched. 494 acres, destroyed two homes in six outbuildings. The fire is 85% contained. People who evacuated are being allowed back home.

"I think the gate Capital is going to be one of the top three biggest stories of the final 15 games. And I think that he's going to manage these games, much like you've seen other young managers managing the postseason in recent years. You know where you're pulling starters early where your tactics are a little bit different, where your pinch hitting in the certain fourth inning of games to try and get the matchup when you can. I wouldn't be shocked if the Giants were pinch hitting in the second or third inning today, if they got a match up they liked against Clavin churches because These are seven games. So every little strategical move the gate capture makes every tweak that he brings to the lineup is going to be under the spotlight. It's gonna be fun to watch because he's really gained a lot of credibility with giant fans during this hot stretch where, you know the team went from 8 16 back to 23 22 his clawed its way back into the postseason conversation, but You're right. Gabe Kapler is going to be the biggest story or one of the biggest stories moving forward for the Giants season 15 games for him to show Why far Holmes I brought him in. And you know what? Carrie, Looking on the other side. Jace Tingler. Same way a rookie manager. Both these guys are really under pressure. Of course, San Diego has a little bit more breathing room, but You know, you look at Jason Tingler taken over this team, and he's done a magnificent job and he could easily be the manager of the year in the National League is one of them. Final question Here carry. You know when we talk about a double header. It's so important to win the first game. In your mind. Tell me your thoughts about this double Piter, and how much an important it is for the San Francisco Giants. Well, you gotta split. You absolutely have to split Bill and I know that they'd love to take game one particularly up against clever Inger and I don't know if it's limiting game too. But if it is that makes him one all that much more important, because diplomats Asai Young candidate he probably won't win it with the way that Trevor Bauer and Yu Darvish pitching this year, But Goodness, he is so fun to watch. And I think that you know, from a watchability standpoint, he might be my favorite pitcher in the National League. But, you know, it puts all that much more importance on Game one with your ace going and Johnny Cueto with a lineup shaking out the way you want it to. And Alex Dickerson Mikey's terms, he Justin Smoak the left hand hitters in there. I think that you know the giant need to split and their best opportunity is probably going to be in this first game to pick up that win. Carrie once again Thanks for taking some time off. I know Marty wants to say goodbye to you also. Yeah, boy, carry you sound very awake today. This is he's fired up. Marty had my morning coffee. So I think I can tell where you're watching the game today. From the From the Living room. Couch itself, Right foot splits split screen with the 49 0. Very good. You know, I was going to tell you, you know, Original Joe's Anna Westlake, John Duke and sent me a picture yesterday. They're constructing Ah, beautiful outdoor patio for outdoor dining in Westlake. So I want you to know that and he told me to make sure I send you that picture A little Marty. I wish Jon Dugan's best because under these challenging circumstances, I never thought in my life that we would see outdoor dining in Westlake. I don't even think that climate change could bring about outdoor dining in Westlake. But that is that is an ambitious endeavor for John Coogan. And I wish you nothing but the best and I'll go sit out there. Yeah, I'm going to send you the picture with the way you see it. It's pretty interesting, but they've got that coming up. Well, great to have you on as always. Good report. I'm glad you're awake. But I could tell there was something cooking with you today. Well, you know you get you get you and Bill together. Marty, and I'm all for it, but I like being the opener and builds the bulk innings guy, just different roles for bail. I love Bill's been great, fabulous. He's got a great big show coming up, and I will kick in here every once in a while and say something, Marty of bone here once in a while, care. You know how we got to keep it alive. Actually, you know, you can't forget who got this all started. That's right. 100%. There have X again for your time. Have a good one. But, Marnie, he was fired up, boy. He had energy flow. Interview with Jim Seimas Sports Editor of the Santa Cruz Sentinel

"A very special guest the sports editor for the Santa Cruz Sentinel 23 time Associated Press sports editor award-winner Jim seimas, Jim. Welcome to the show off you drop. Thanks for having me. Appreciate it Jim and I have had the awesome opportunity of meeting each other in a couple of different capacities over the last year or so first. I met you as an intern for the pajaronian wage when I was reveley scholar studying under Brad kava at Cabrillo and then later, you know in my role of sports and Information Specialist at Cabrillo and you obviously still with the Sentinel we wanted to be on the show today because Danny and I are both making money in our careers as writers, you know, we do writing here and there and I guess you could say that we had an innate interests in people who not only right but also write for the Sentinel because we've had on Ryan Masters before a former Sentinel writer who body surfed at wage. Rick's back in I think 2006 that Joe is that the year that he at Mavericks something like that. I'd have to double-check his old writings, but it was early mid two thousand. This may be late home or remembering and Ryan was an amazing interview. He was really fun and we kind of learned our lesson that when it comes to having guests on the show, you really want to look for people who are comfortable using their words took a story and who have a lot of experience kind of funneling down their information, but for somebody like me who grew up reading Hunter Thompson and a lot of writers that came originally from a sports writing background. I've always had this this Romanticism if you will of of what a sports writer is and that was kind of pushed ahead by working for Tony Nunez who was at the time the sports editor at the potter onia now, he is the managing editor and you know working with you and meeting Julie and leading one and I guess it's really cool meeting these people who spend dead. The the bulk of their time living in sport and and kind of articulating and taking sport out and a big part of what I've tried to do during my time to Cabrillo is digitized r-sport make them available for streaming online. Mostly for the purpose of trying to let more people get a chance to a common experience that activity as we enter a world following this covid-19 Choice. It's not following yet. But has we live in this kind of post covid-19 world the time before fans will be allowed back to watch sports happen will probably come after Sportz get back underway, which means that people like us are all of a sudden going to be really pushed back to the Forefront and be creating this bridge to connect people with this activity that they truly love and care for or players or teams or whatever. So kind of from that launching point. Where where did you first get started as a writer and what made you decide that that way? Are you were going to you know, keep the bills paid? Was funny cuz I interviewed so many kids that are college committed and asked what they're going to major in and half of them don't know and I'm fine with that. But I and then there's other kids who do they knew in fifth grade that I wanted to be a sportswriter. Excuse me. I have some allergies here. So I, every now and then around fourth fifth grade page and initially wanted to be like the San Francisco Giants announcer and there's only two of them and I know like connection to baseball whatsoever other than being a fan and I kind of even figured out that age like hey there I you know X ball players are getting these jobs. You're not going to get one and then, you know, just taking radio television type stuff and you know if I had a face or voice for neither, so I just kind of jumped into you know, a fifth grade. We did a little writing project. Would that where we had our books published or bound at least and I can't remember it was unbeknownst to me boss. So maybe in a contest and I wasn't a very good writer, but it won an award and I was very happy about that. I still have that book in my basement. I would like to say it was probably like Game of Thrones before Game of Thrones happened, but far simpler only three pages. So, you know, I did my own artwork for it with you know, drawings and swords and blood. Anyway, that was awful. I was hooked. I obviously don't like didn't read recently like a large audience at all, but I have so much fun writing that I really enjoyed creative writing in junior high school besides that my writing was absolutely atrocious growing up all my papers were covered in red ink from the teachers and that kind of was like the kitchen me ask to like. Hey, let's let's try harder at this. Let's try and figure out how to construct a sentence a little bit better and and your thoughts and I'm specimens. I'm still battling today, but I remember I try not to be sports editor wage. Junior High and the junior high paper is pretty much all song dedications and this and that and very little of substance but I got beat out for that position and took still enjoyed writing and then I did I did a couple of years on my high school paper at Westmont high and Campbell. And again, I did poorly in this like a British literature class. So I actually took off journalism twice you're only allowed to take it once but I knew that's what I was going to go into and you know, so and after that I went to West Valley College in Saratoga and I did far too many semesters on their page Church went to San Jose State did far too many semesters on their paper. I wasn't really like set on graduating. I was having so much fun on each step. Excuse me, boss. So on each stamp learning so much, you know when you were

"Covers the San Francisco Giants for the Bay Area News group. We welcome in carry to the Tolbert, Kruger and Brooke Show joins us. It's all guests on the whom I guess line. Carrie, We always appreciate your time. A man Thank you for joining us. Thanks for having me guess. But obviously we started talkin the show talking about Gabe Kapler and his misadventure. We're going to get Tyler Rogers last night so we will start. Our conversation with you about that. When it comes to buy in for and credibility. Four. Gabe Kapler. Do you think that breaks down purely into the young guys are like, Hey, man, I'm just I'm trying to make my way into the game so things might be unconventional, but I'm going to roll with it. And then the older guys, You know the bell. So Longoria's What have you for those guys They have to buy in what's happening if they choose to, or, you know for them. Gabe Kapler's credibility might be a thing is. I know you can't talk to the players because of the way things are right now, But do you get a sense that what happened last night? Might undermine his credibility with certain guys, or just might completely crush it with others. I get the sense that it's a much much bigger issue outside of the clubhouse and inside because it's really not that it's really not that bad because You're talking about a point in the game when the outcome was already decided, so players see that miscue. They see that Tyler Rogers was left out there. I think they're probably wondering, Hey, why was Roger's out there so long? But it's worse with Giants fans because Gabe Kapler's trying to succeed Bruce Bochy here and trying to follow in the legacy of a legend, and he messed up the rule that endeared Bruce Bochy two Giants fans back in 2010 at Dodger Stadium. And so no one on this current roster was on the team. Back then no one knew that. That's why Bruce Boat He initially became so beloved because he's solo victory, a Dodger Stadium in 2010. And so I think that Giants fans had that long term perspective, whereas in the clubhouse okay. It was a 12 6 game clearly was getting away from us. If it happens again? Yes, that's a concern. But one time you know you can live with that. You know, Cap has mentioned the guys. I mean, not that I was telling them anything they didn't know, but he has very little experience in 2018. Phil's went six and 18 in September and just died. 2019. Phil's lost nine of 12 to end the year. You know they're I think they're 18 and 34 was their combined record in September, the last two seasons under Gabe Kapler. What kind of manager I mean, how good of a manager or how bad of a manager is Gabe Kapler. Do we know right now, when we say with any definitive I mean they that Phillies team the first year was not very good, and he got it to be about roughly 500. But then they added a lot of guys including Bryce Harper, and I think they didn't really improving. Also. How good a manager's cap. Yeah, I think it's gonna be hard to know right away because you look at the open that the Phillies had 2018 and 2019 and it was disastrous. I mean, they were asking Nick Vincent to get high leverage out last year in September. Next incident was a giant cast off from a team that won 77 games. So I would love to see what gave Catherine looks like, What a confident open. I'm not sure that he has one right now. I don't know that the Giants have enough quality arms down there. To help him navigate the 7th 8th and ninth innings on a regular routine basis. I think that this rosters and such a talent decision see compared to the rest of nationally West, the D backs the Padres and the daughter's in particular that it might take a full extra year to know, But But what did strike me is? I think most managers would have gotten Tyler Rogers out of the game earlier. I think that after after Manny Machado walked, maybe give him one more batter, but that Tommy Sam's single That should sound the alarm because Roger's had already pitched on Wednesday. He'd already thrown one inning in the ninth on Thursday. He's probably tired and go get go get Trevor. God go get a strike out. Go get someone to get you another ground ball where you're not playing with chance, like you are with Tyler Rogers about this weird soft contact that he tends to give up. Yeah, I think that a maid still early. Carrie and the two guys I was looking at where De Bon and Rogers because they're supposed to be the Swiss army, knives of the offense and the defense or the pitching staff in the offense, and they really haven't got up too. Good starts either of them, but it's still early. But I just think they may have way overestimated what Rogers is capable of, because I think they thought, well, he's a guy that could pitch to winnings. It could be an opener and coming on back to back nights, and he could do this. And I don't know that he's I don't know He's that guy. I think he could be capable. I think he's a could be a picture in your bullpen. I'm not serious, capable of doing everything they thought he might be able to Dio. Yeah, I'm right there with you, You know, To be honest, I'm I'm probably guilty of overestimating Rogers fell because of how good he looked during spring training. I mean, this guy was lights out. Every bat was incredibly awkward. But then you get into summer camp and he started to see the contact get a little harder and then you get to Dodger Stadium and you're facing good hitters and all of a sudden Some of those ground balls find holes and time of Rogers is not the picture I would shift with. I think the Giants are making a mistake by shifting with Tyler Rogers because you can't predict how guys we're going to hit a guy who comes from that arm angle. It's just impossible. And so I think that some of the balls have found holes and right now, you know he isn't as bad as the suggestion. But he certainly probably isn't that eighth or ninth inning guy that they thought he was going to be either. Well carry crowd. Li Berry a newsgroup joining us here in the Tolbert, Kruger and Brooke Show. We're talking Giants. What was the explanation for leaving Rogers out there for as long as he wass So I think it came down to watching the Oakland A's and Angels on opening night out of the Coliseum and seeing the incredible play that battles and a mat Chapman made where the Angels started with a runner on second base. They get a ground ball to the right side of the infield models and flips it across the diamond and throws to that Chapman over third base, thereby negating that runner over on second base to start beginning it's okay..

I think that I live, which is you need to build up as much personal brand equity as possible to then funnel into these energies. I believe the way to do that is to invest in your personal brand. That means produce content and spend media to amplify it. The biggest mistake people making right now is relying on organic on their personal brand because that feels like the right thing to do. There's almost like this badge of honor of, like they get their traffic from organic, it's actually the reverse. It's super non-strategic move to not amplify media. When media's underpriced?
