"Get started and good luck with your podcast. Good luck with your creation. Good luck with your life man. San francisco may offer cash incentives for not committing crimes a long running crime prevention strategy. That's used in a couple of east bay cities maybe heading to san francisco. It involves cash incentives for not committing crimes. San francisco's dream keeper. Fellowship has been described as giving someone money to not shoot people. Wow that's lovely. That i live in a country where you get a pay people not to shoot people no no. We'll give you money if you don't shoplift in pillage and rape the village. The dream keeper initiative is a part of mayor. London breeds sixty million dollars. Investment in san francisco's black and african american community that will provide resources for among other things youth. Development education workforce training and guaranteed income. I think the guaranteed income is the part here where we're Let's dive into this resources. Aimed at reducing violent crime in the city says the executive director of the national institute of criminal justice reform. David muhammad and thing. I love the executive director of the institute of criminal. Justice reform came up with this solution. We can't get people to stop committing crimes should we maybe overhaul the police department. Maybe maybe working like educating the you spend money on education. Let's just give them money if they don't commit crimes. How about that. Can you go a month without shooting somebody in the leg. Here's twenty bucks. Here's a quote from this idiot david. It's an incentive for achieving a milestone for instance what we're proposing at the moment is that people involved in the program will receive a three hundred dollars a month guaranteed income stipend as part of the city's larger guaranteed income program. In addition to that they would be eligible for receiving up to two hundred dollars additional a month for achieving certain outcomes. I love it. Just love all this but i don't have health insurance. We're gonna pay people. Do not shoot people but i. i can't get healthcare. it's unbelievable. Wow i live in such backwards ass country. I'm gonna move to san francisco and just show them that. I'm a guys i haven't committed a crime. Can i get that five hundred bucks. How about that. This guy says there are successful. Examples of similar crime reducing initiatives in a pair of cities. Right across the bay. Escher in fact. He says a three hundred dollar. Monthly stipend has been a part of the city of oakland's ceasefire crime reduction strategy for the past eight years while they're pay people three hundred a month in oakland not fire off their gun. Wow hey so when anyone asked me. Why did you have a secretary josie. Here's why i live in a country where they're paying people to not open fire in public. That's what we need to do. You get at to actually give people a monthly stipend. So they don't kill which is going to pay off the active shooters guy. Mohammed says that a small financial incentive is connected to targeted goals. And it's a bargain. Yeah oh i see here. Well bobby you. You only killed one person this month so we are not eligible for the full three hundred. We're going to only give you one fifty. Ok you're gonna have to make that work okay. Try not to kill anybody next month. We'll give you the full amount. Oh yes. I'm in charge of shit. Hey my pillow weirdos. Thank you for being present. I'm nice and caffeinated for you today. "Housing complex. Rent hasn't changed since fifteen. Twenty one in san francisco may offer cash incentives for not shooting people. These are the weird stories for wednesday on weird af news the daily weird news podcast hosted by. You guessed it a comedian. Let's try to be funny and intoxicated. Individual was arrested after trying to direct traffic. This is out of the uk mid sussex neighborhood. Police inspector darren taylor say this arrest happened on monday evening. Darren is quoted as saying another rather intoxicated. Mail yesterday at eight thirty. Pm this chime in the cook field road area of how sucks. he decided. He wanted to try his hand at directing traffic in the middle of the road. Not appropriate when you're this intoxicated. He wasn't early directing traffic. In the proper flow. Many 'cause which just veering off and crashing into lampposts and whatnot. I'm kidding none of that happened. The sussex police say a man was arrested repeating the they added that the man ended up being arrested by the team for being quote journal gin disorder. Oh i don't know if. I got that accent. Correct by the way is that accurate for the sussex area of england. I know you have your little neighborhood accents. It's so adorable. And i know that i screw it up quite often because i'll get a message from someone from from that area that says jones e. That's not an appropriate accident for that area. And i feel like saying. Hey man i'm just. I'm just doing accents over here. I don't know why you you're expecting accuracy. Like i know nothing just trying to get a laugh. I love that this man got drunk and didn't fight you know didn't whip out his wang at a passing mother and daughter didn't throw up in a walmart parking lot after stealing pharmaceuticals from them. Like this guy just tried to give back to the community. Tried to help out. Like you know what i see a need. This intersection is a little ornery. Right it's kind of confusing and we hate those confusing intersections. They need a cop but some of them don't have a cop there. You're like there should be a police officer here. These lights are weird. The turns are weird. Or maybe it's a very confusing. Roundabout know those things can be tricky the roundabouts. I think you call them roundabouts in the uk. At least i got that right. Where i'm from new england. We call them rotaries which seems strange like a rotary foam. But i guess it makes sense roundabout. That's pretty cool. Yeah so this guy is just trying to give back to the community bring order where there is disorder. His heart is in the right place. Just you don't want to be directed by a drunk individual. Of course that's the end of the article by the way there's nothing else i got. I got so many more questions like. Did this guy used to be a traffic cop. And then when he gets tipsy he just kinda likes to slip into character again. Did anybody really crash. I need to know that someone must have crashed. Did they just not obey him at all. Like how did this go down. Is there video footage of this. I would love to see just a waste of dude. Stumbling in the middle of intersection like calling for a car. One way and also calling for car in the exact opposite direction. Everyone confused well. The things that people do when they're drunk and this is this is one. I have to say like i support. Might not not in this way but like this guy just wants to help you know. Just little misguided at the world's oldest social housing project rent hasn't changed since fifteen twenty one months before his eighteenth birthday noelle and his family fell on some hard times. You know that can be. Parents separated. mother was struggling to make ends meet. She announced the family was going to move into a place called the foo jerry. The fujeirah is the world's oldest social housing project. It's located in augsburg germany. Here's a quote from noel. Who doesn't look german. But i'm going to give him an accent anyways. Yes eva's like people people really live there. Are you show all that people live you. Show people live there. We really living. Noel is not twenty seven years old and he remains one of the youngest residents of this complex. The few jerry is a landmark in the city. Not only because it resembles a medieval village but also because the rent has not changed in over five hundred years the residents pay get this a dollar thirty per year for their apartments not per month per year. This is the equivalent of point. Eight eight euros for the year. This is outstanding. I just assumed that number was the month. I would pay that for the day to be be pleased to pay that. So they pay a dollar thirty per year for their apartments and they commit to daily spiritual reflection. It says which you don't need if your rent's only a dollar thirty you don't need. You certainly have a lot of time for that if your rents a dollar thirty. But you don't really need it. I need daily spiritual reflection because my rent is too damn high. I need therapy for that. I need the meditation time by the way. Donate to the patriot police. Roughly one hundred sixty residents live in the food jerry ranging from retirees with scant pensions to young adults priced out of an increasingly expensive city. Food the food. Jerry's located just an hour's drive from munich and apparently augsburg is in demand with commuters. Trying to escape germany's hottest rental market..

"Hysteria being hysterical about crime. I real- hashtag like that grandma. The grandma and especially my latte needs help with it. Turns out the whole thing was a scam and then his her aunt. Did you hear about this. Her aunt was like now. We don't need help and it's not trump's fall yeah it's local politics policy. All these people are like nah trucks. They want the immigrants if you talked to an actual emigrant and you're like yo who did you vote for trump. Okay so crazy marie a little bit of this article quick. The fbi does not release full statistics until september but homicide rates in large cities. Were up more than thirty percent on average last year in another twenty four percent at the beginning of this year so thirty percent from twenty nineteen to twenty twenty in twenty four percent from twenty twenty two twenty twenty one. Who's i want to be so far this statistic speaking of those statistics all that makes me think of what just flashed in my head is like civil unrest right. I want to see the statistics for man. It's hard to say for Like food cost average food cost per american percentage of income. Essentially what. I want to see right so like once food costs. This percentage of income for the average american right because apparently they've lead that specific statistic to win a civil war starts. Forty percent is what it is so western as it gets around forty percent of the cost of their income civil war re that we're spending on food. I haven't i haven't done any no. It doesn't start like is this not what's caused right but it just seems to be around that time so it like ads on the so what does what does it right. Now what are we spending right now. I don't know shit. yeah right. we're close to the thing is though you can't do that. Because even in america we have fast food you know. They have cheap food shortages of beef. But this guy that i'm talking about. I think it was. These name. shameless our no dude. I can't remember but he he was talking about egypt. And you know all of these like civil wars. So that's not some good news. Nine point five percent. that's where we're at. We're not even close to the usda..

Santa Claus won't be coming to Macy's this year

"Santa Claus is not coming to Macy's this year. Yep, a Fox affiliate, Channel five K V. V YOU TV in Vegas. They say that the Macy's and Associated Press they say that may see Santa Claus is not going to greeting. Consider its flagship New York store because of the Wrona. This is 160 year long tradition. More than a quarter of a million people go to Macy's just to see Santa, they said. It's gonna be hard to create a safe environment during a pandemic, so because you have to have being tight quarters, and it's like a maze through Santillan and his toy trains, and L since that scene was not going to get the Chicago or San Fran stores, either. And he is still going to be at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. But this is depressing. I am really sad. That's really sad. How sad is that? What in the world? Also

"At a website check it out alright ladies and gentlemen I want to get done with it now let's do the Superbowl we lost we had San Fran plus one and a half I will tell you at halftime I hedged half my best with Casey come so I had like a middle but only on one point but I just I had to I still you know lost the game but in no particular order I want to bring up a bunch of things that I liked or disliked it and some pet peeves on the game and then we'll get past that number one I thought demi Lovato was great I thought she was terrific I I didn't even know who the heck she was I mean I've seen her and stuff I noticed she had some issues and stuff like that with drugs I guess she had overdosed or something like that but I thought she was great number two the halftime I thought should cure was great thanks think of Jennifer Lopez was good but I always have been the issue you know I'm not a prude I always have an issue with women that are part of this meat to thing am I wrong in saying that Jennifer Lopez was kinda sorting whatever rang the wheel how whatever's and then pull dancing so there's this whole thing about being hold some and stuff like that and then they do that I just a critical B. S. that's all anyway let's get past that anyway it was very noisy and all that then in the half time I I find it interesting I know this is political but they you know they did a political statement on immigration you know that right they have little kids in the cages interesting how they never did that when Obama was president in the eight years he he deported three million immigrants interesting that trump has supported less immigrants than Obama yet they have to make a statement the managers thing how people work again hypocrisy next let me start with the big one JZ and Beyonce say did not stand for the pledge of allegiance these two billionaires what made zillions of dollars living in this great country took the middle finger out to the national anthem that's what I think now we get to the game forget everything else forget everything else about the game thirty five San Fran is still up by three I think it's about five and a half minutes left in the game something like that give or take well below throws an incomplete pass because he was had a defensive guy in his face the replay in slow motion in fast motion in halfway motion a crown of helmets to go rock blues helmets a penalty that's been cold one hundred out of one hundred times this year not all the rest was standing right there Jordan but as you can see the rest looking at it happened and it doesn't correlate if they clearly San Fran has the ball with five minutes left they would have been at midfield with the ball if they just run the best three times at the very least Sam our RKC uses all the time outs and uses no time or a bunch more time let's just start with that number two right before the half this pass interference call on the offense bull crap it was not pass interference when the defender is not looking at the ball is looking straight at you and his hands are on you the center has the right to go hand to hand but he reached screw you that's not the rule the lawyer on TV that would have been three points for San Fran all the big forty four yard play by U. K. C. when my home one towards the left I see from left to feet away was not call game changing play but for me the one out of the three there crowned the helmet and to show you how bad the fix was in and I don't mean they they treated the the I'm sure they meant well female thing and when they showed in slow motion I'm waiting for the announcer the saving missed the call didn't say a word the announcers were all NFL were all for Casey but let's go back to the game when the giants beat the bills when the bills had that great offense and then at the end of the game Norwood was wide right the reason why the giants won that game as they were able to keep the ball out of the buffaloes high powered offense most of the game but when they did have it they did lonely still almost one here's the problem with this coach of San Francisco he came up with a great plan just like bill Parcells that was leading twenty the ten any when it against his game plan San Francisco had the lead thirteen plays in the second half and they passed the ball nine times eighteen that was running through them like what spaghetti in a strainer water in a strainer past nine times thirteen plate you get the ball back that's team we're on third down on third down the bad call by the refs the no call first down five yards second in five walks running well they have to take time out they've been running like crazy on them past past past past sorry if you go to the site the past when do you pass first them when they don't expect you to pass on a play action pass which worked a couple of times not a bad call another bad call and then there's garage below because it's the Superbowl it's your time he went through the whole game with a minute and a half left minute almost two minutes left Carol is in your hand down by four you get the ball back to get to the fifty yard line who are you at that time are you the hero toward this Casey win the game and you go back to past and your guy gets opened by three four yards and all you gotta do is put the ball in his hands and your overthrown by ten yards.

"Seat. The thunder locked into where they are currently with only room to climb up. It's hard to imagine a situation where they fall in the standings thunder playing with house money. And you know me. I'm gambler on Saturday afternoon. The Oklahoma sooners faced off against the Oklahoma state cowboys and got a victory. Eighty two sixty nine their home floor. Yeah a two six nine Nice. The sooners were led by Brady Manic. Who after having a nice little hot stretch played so poorly against Kansas State on last Wednesday? You made up on Saturday Christian doolittle and finish. The game was six point. Dawson Reeves had twenty one and unexpected effort. The cowboys are still looking for answers. From just about anyone mcgriff had fifteen loss and Mike Boyd. Didn't exactly sugarcoated after the game. This cowboys team isn't looking good. Currently at ten and eleven overall an owner eight and conference play looking at their remaining schedule. It's hard to pick out a potential win. The sooners fourteen to seven and four and foreign conference play are still fighting to be a team that is in the bubble or in the tournament. This win doesn't really help with that. But good for bragging rights. Oklahoma state's next game is Wednesday night against Tcu at seven PM at home the sooners play tomorrow at Texas Tech in Lubbock at eight PM ON ESPN two. Now I would not be sleeping on Texas taxes because they're thirteen and eight and had the same conference records. Oh you the red raiders are coming off a win over West Virginia last week as well as only a three point loss in Kansas. This should be a tough test for the sooners and Brady Manic. Thanks for listening the big story today podcast and if you've been listening since the first week which was last week you know right here at the tail. End of the PODCAST. This is generally when I take it towards the movies or music or somewhere. I'm excited to eat not today. Obviously you keep up with the franchise. There's a ton of moving parts right now. Last Wednesday was a tough day for everyone was a tough day for me truthfully. I've been working for six years for a promotion and a full time position radio. I got that on Wednesday should have been the happiest day that I've had professionally long time. Let me tell you it was the toughest day I've ever had to be at work. I worked extremely closely with a lot of the people who were affected on Wednesday. I've met wives. I've met children and it goes without saying my heart broke on Wednesday for some of those who are affected. I knew that it wasn't a performance decision. I knew that it was a financial one so I also know that sitting in the chair than I am right now was Sam. Every day from three seven wasn't a performance decision. It was a financial one. I get that I'm not Koby Daniels. I'm not as good as colby. Daniels won't be Koby Daniels ever for that. I'm sorry you guys have made it very clear that you wish I was truthfully. I wish I was to Co. He's incredible but it's just not the case. It's me so now on every day from three to seven. Just GonNa be me and Sam and I'm just going to be trying to do my best version of me on a radio talk show like I said waiting for this for six years for hard for it. I didn't think it was going to be from three to seven my first opportunity coming off the back of what Wednesday was but it was and it is and I had nothing to do with it but I was affected by it in my way positive. So this isn't a mopey sad story but this is just the truth of it for me and I don't plan on addressing nece on the air or on twitter or on the text line or anywhere there. This is the one time I'll address it not because I'm shy about it and because I'm bashful of what happened. I know that I am lucky. Lot More lucky than skillful. I'm aware but out of respect for colby and Aaron and Gilman and Curtis Dez and Rufus and all the others who are affected. There's no need to drag this out. I'M NOT GONNA be able to replace what they did. For the franchise all I can hope to do is the best version of myself. And if that's not what you want I get it. You didn't sign up for it but also remember the radios free. There's a lot of moving in the background. And sometimes you're twenty six year old kid or not enough experience. Who just happens to be at the right place at the right time? You didn't choose to be there. You didn't make the decision but all you can hope. Turn your mic on and say something stupid. So that's I'm going to do every day all right. There's been the big story podcast which is M. Holland from the franchise podcast network. "And we just won the Super Bowl Kansas City coming home baby or Travis. Kelsey in the Kansas City chiefs are absolutely gonNa Lombardi all the way back home cassidy. Thirty One San Francisco Twenty. The game started out as every single. Playoff game has started for Kansas City. This postseason a three now which in and of itself as a shocking statistic team won the Super Bowl with the one of the most explosive offense. We've ever seen but started every single game. Punting San Francisco scores on a field goal in the next possession. Kansas City throws up a touchdown at the end of the first making it seven to three second quarter field goal from Kansas City. Right off the bat touchdown from San Francisco Late. Ten Ten tie bogging. This is where the first plot point starts with. Four minutes and fourteen seconds left in the half. Kansas City had the ball at their own. Nineteen Yard Line from their San Francisco. Had All three timeouts in general consensus says that you can call all three of those timeouts and if you get three stops you had the opportunity to get the ball back with a couple of minutes and maybe the two minute warning. San Francisco chose not to go down that road from fear of giving Kansas City extra plays or or possibly fear of pressing their lock even more than they already had. It was a questionable decision from Kyle. Shanahan to not try to give his offense won more possession especially after a seven play eighty yard drive in four minutes and twenty seven seconds. Where look like Jimmy Garoppolo? George Kill Deebo Samuel Rolling. Both teams seem content going into halftime tied at ten ten. Now opening up the second half and the very first possession possession of the third quarter San Francisco scores on a field goal. The next possession Patrick mahomes interception followed by San Francisco touchdown at this point with five minutes. Twenty three seconds left in the third quarter. San Francisco's up twenty to ten the very next possession. Another Patrick mahomes interception up ten after getting a turnover from the Kansas city chiefs. You must feel pretty confident. If you're a San Francisco Forty niners Fan Kyle Shanahan who has experience in being in the super bowl up by a large margin surely would know what to do from here on his next five plays Golf Shanahan called four passes his drive to going three minutes and four seconds off? The clock only won seventeen yards for before punting the ball right back to Kansas City and then Patrick mahomes took over including a forty four yard. Long Bond Tyreek Hill. Tim plays eighty three yards in two minutes and forty seconds. Kansas City put up a touchdown to pull the lead within three San Francisco. Twenty Kansas City. Seventeen the next possession for San Francisco should all be predictable on first down and ten was six thirteen left in the fourth quarter and a three point. Lead San Francisco sets up and runs the ball off the left tackle for five yards perfect. Keep the clock moving second down shocking past the George biddle incomplete. Third Down and five shotgun right to boone. Incomplete Punt San Francisco. Took a minute and three off the clock on a three and out. Now I'm not going to criticize CAL Shanahan too much because he knows more about football than I ever possibly could but based off what we've seen from coach Shannahan in these situations. He should be pretty predictable especially on first and entertaining five on one run play but Shanahan got away from the run and gave the ball right back to the Kansas City chiefs with five minutes left down three. Patrick Mahomes is only Patrick. Mahomes can seven plays sixty five yards in two minutes and thirty seconds later including a couple of speed options scored a touchdown at the Kansas City. Chiefs Up Twenty four to twenty the following possession for San Francisco is all but pretty leading to a final fourth down and ten were Jimmy. Garoppolo got sacked for a loss of nine yards. Frank Clark from there. The story was over. Damian Williams rushed for another touchdown two plays later extending lead from thirty one to twenty but the Super Bowl came down to just nat the greatest player in the League by a pretty considerable margin making the biggest plays in the biggest game at the biggest time despite playing poorly for three quarters of it. But that's what the great ones do. I don't know if this is a new generation of quarterbacks. I don't know of Patrick. Mahomes is going to be a guy that we all look to for the next fifteen twenty years as leading the NFL. But I can tell you if you're going to put my money on anybody. It would have to be Patrick. Mahomes Damian Williams. The local Oklahoma running back from San Diego made a lot of noise in this one hundred yards two touchdowns one receiving one rushing something that maybe he should have been the super bowl. Mvp I don't know if I'm willing to go. That far but Damien Williams had great game. Afterwards he was asked about his performance in what it took to get him where he is a long journey. Been able to come here on drafted make plays for these for these guys for the organization and being able to have the chief kingdom see some men me coming off. Injury means a lot to give off each and every time with on the San Francisco. Forty niners team might be more interesting than the Kansas City chiefs team. That just won the superbowl. Kansas City has their quarterback. There's no questions. He's the best player in the League. They have their head coach. They have their wide receivers. They know their core. They know the Path Ron San Francisco would tell you. They're probably in the same situation. I would tell you if I was gonNA hire anyone in the NFL. Right now Kyle. Shanahan would be a very very early call for me. He's also crossing into uncharted waters. This is from a sports couch. Shanahan has been outscored. Forty six two zero inside the fourth quarter of the ten minute. Mark in the last two Super Bowls. He's coached in. Espn win probability. In Two thousand sixteen had him in a ninety nine point six percent chance to win at one point yesterday ninety five point three that would just got done praising Andy Reid for the Great Coaching job. He did this year and rightfully so a lot of his losses in the postseason that he got blamed for truly felt like luck. I don't know cal Shanahan's losses so far through his tenure as an offense coordinator as a head coach our luck or poor coaching. But I'm not going to default to the latter cal eight and hands great coach. Who's got a great great offense of mind but the question really is going to come back to Jimmy Garoppolo especially after this play airs it out. Sanders. Downfield is overthrowing an hour. The minute thirty three left. Its fourth and ten Jimmy Garoppolo. In the fourth quarter down by four had an opportunity with a wide open Emmanuel Sanders. Streaking down the middle of the field. To throw a game winning touchdown now. I made the joke on twitter. That of Jimmy. Garoppolo would have connected with that touchdown it would help lead him to his third Super Bowl in five years. Which is literally true. But a lot of context add. They're now just like to say if history's taught us anything this San Francisco team that seems to be so loaded. Talent from top to bottom who's biggest weakness might be the fact that they have the fifteen best quarterback in the League won't make the playoffs next year. Which is really hard to imagine. Outside of the New England Patriots. The rule is if you lose in the Super Bowl your next season's awash now trends to be broken in history doesn't apply to everyone all. I would say I don't know if I'd be counting on the San Francisco Forty niners this time. Next February the Super Bowl also gives us a ton of great memories. Halftime shows always a highlight for people who are really interested in the game in the first place might just be there for the commercials. This halftime show was no different. It was making the rounds on social media. People having a reaction one way or the other but it also gave us one iconic moment and I can't wait to see used over and over and over repetitively social media for the next six months. It reminds me a lot of the Left Shark from the Katy. Perry halftime funeral. Remember just search left Shark on Youtube. I promise you it'll be the best thirty seconds you spend your day. But last night we got this from Shakira. Yeah that I. I don't know how to describe it in. I don't know how to even make fun of it. If there was a way to. All I can say is that audio along with the video. We're going to be all over twitter for the short while memorable moments people appreciate the mother here. There was another sport going on this weekend outside of the Super Bowl which is hard to imagine especially for someone like me but the Oklahoma City Thunder did play on Friday night against the Phoenix Suns. And we previewed this game as being a real test for Lou dirt in his defensive ability of verse Devon Booker a guy who should have been in the All Star game in his is trying to get revenge against the league well. The thunder did what they always do. Sadly they got down by a deficit in the fourth quarter but luckily for them as they always do the thundercloud right back into the game. Lead behind Chris Paul yet again now. It's encouraging about this. Win is first off. It was on the road and Oklahoma City started out there. Road Record Owen six. Since then they're fifteen and four. The Oklahoma Thunder have been incredible in Rhode Victory. So far the other positive. Take away from here. Shakira's Alexander played poorly in this one. He was five sixteen from the floor over five from the three point line and really look like a liability on the offensive in struggling to make just about anything. Couldn't get to the free throw line but had nine rebounds and four sist- The thunder one in spite of that. They want basically on the back of Chris. Paul and Dennis Schroder the trade deadline. Is this Thursday. Three days from today Adrian Origin House-key in post yesterday afternoon hinted that Stephen Adams is still very much available in trade talks. You have to believe to this point. Dennis Schroder is as well and you'd be hard pressed to find a better bench score in the League right now. Oklahoma City now getting a well deserved few days off in the month of January. They didn't have two days off in a row for the entire month now. They don't play again until Wednesday when they go home against Detroit at this point. Oklahoma City is thirty and twenty on the season. They're still sitting in seventh in the Western Conference. But they're just a half game behind the Dallas Mavericks One game back in the loss column. Oklahoma City is still trying to make an effort to crawl up these playoff standings. Now if you're out there wondering what the differences between the seventh seed and the sixty. Let's say would you rather play the Los Angeles Clippers Denver Nuggets if you can find a way to avoid the seventh or the eighth seed this season? I don't Hate Oklahoma. City's chances of making it to the second round as long as they're not playing the Utah Jazz. Oklahoma City is also closer to the clippers and the second seed than they are to the Memphis Grizzlies.

The predatory publishers sucking science's blood (Summer Season)

"Quake the doot of a Predator as a reporter. You get all kinds of of little suggestions. Tips complaints this. And you can't deal with them all. This one intrigued me. I had started to hear about similar complaints and sort of once. You hear enough of them the signal adds up you think. Maybe there's a story here. What was I seeing What what the clued that? That Mela rash well. I was a researcher myself. I was a faculty librarian at my university and I did. Research probably starting five six years ago I I was always looking for publishing opportunities. I started getting letters and I started to receive these emails. Sort of saying extremely nice. Nice things to me that basically said call for Paper Journal Editors Wanting Me To submit my manuscript to their journal and they had lots of grammatical errors in addition to that one and the emails and then generally speaking editor. I don't say very nice things about you and they don't typically they don't write to you and ask you to submit a manuscript. Will you ever tempted to meet. No no I mean I'm a clinical epidemiologist in some of these journals were lifted from soil. Science right why would somebody from soil science be asking me saying Nice things about me. They wouldn't no me from anywhere he's smells a rat. I did maybe several but that rash or several thousand read via now. Well and truly on the loose predatory publishes and the Predatory Journal has become a mega industry global in reach ending ending destructive potential. In fact you're going to hear from someone who believes that the industry represents the big threat to don in the inquisition shen the US. Federal Court recently ordered one of the biggest of the company to pay up over fifty million. US dollars only make. International headquartered voted in Hyderabad in India but also operating in the US climbed the publish hundreds of medical journals found to employ deceptive business practices essentially entrapping fantasy to offer published in the Journal or participate in conferences. The Doug the ruling bye-bye predatory publishes well. Let's see if Any of that money actually moves anywhere. It's not clear with a the group will cough up that fifty million dollars which is an estimate of how much the company made from customers over a period. All whether we'll appeal we tend to leave leaked of question to its representative yet to receive a reply but it is nice. Clear message to all the Sake Journal. Publishers of the world that they're being watched watched and there could be consequences. Joan Bohannon thought journalists and now director to add an artificial intelligence data in San Fran called primer. They didn't biscuit slipping under the radar. And using American Canadian European banks to move money millions of dollars of money from a complicit gains so this court ruling basically makes that extremely inconvenient to do now. John was to present evidence in the kite board again. Anthem IQ Group by the Federal Trade Commission. Because he'd had an unusually Hansa with the publisher so all mix was one of hundreds of publishers offers that I tested in sting operation. I wrote some computer code to generate thousands of very bad scientific papers. They have been negative kind of legendary inside the back in two thousand twelve John Reporting for the general died and the Expression Predatory Journal Common News. there was a guy named Geoffrey Yu who was probably the only person around making in a big public. Stink about this and trying to actually Shine a light on it. It was very very bold effort. He had something called feels list or at least it became known as beal's lest my name is Jeffrey Bill. And I'm a retired academic librarian from University of Colorado Denver. But make the deal. Beal Blackley fame and a climb and karate he was the first to coin. The Phrase Predatory Journal the Journal. Publishers hated being malysz because it it stigmatizes them in meant that their income was decreased. Most of the predatory publishers are predatory not only in their publishing but in just the way they operate in general and they would use the heckler's actors veto. They would call the library director and complain about me and they would try to annoy people at my university as much as possible in order to manipulate those people at the university to make me stop the list so that their complaints would stop. I also received several threats of legal action including think it was is in twenty twelve international threatened to sue me for one billion dollars one billion dollars. It was just a threat. What I learned from it is that you can basically basically pay an attorney? Five hundred dollars all right a threatening letter so they they did that but they never followed through with. It was never introduced in any court consequences consequences. Jeffrey of running that black leaked were immense. And I'll come back to that. One estimate suggests that there are at least eight thousand predatory journals it is just one publisher of many but Jeffrey Bill provocatively cold. The the evil empire of Predatory Publishing I stand Dan by that statement and what they do is they really hurt a lot of people. You know the scholarly publishing system works on the honor system and people operate in good faith but oh mix international has has totally broken all that down. They use a lot of spamming to solicit article manuscripts from researchers they have journal titles that match the titles of respected journals. Usually one word off enough to confuse people that it might be the respected journal in the `field they will at People's names to their editorial boards without the person's permission people from top universities top researchers in the field and they'll use their identity to promote the journal and when the person finds out about it and ask them to remove their name. They don't remove it they just leave it there because they're operating operating from foreign country. There's really nothing you can do about it. And they especially prey on young researchers in emerging researchers researchers who don't speak English as their first language. It's not just dont. As from developing countries that a toggle though that even acknowledged problem clinical epidemiologist. David moas taste the Croats at reaching into some of America's most delayed institutions including Harvard in the analysis that we did where we looked at a close to two thousand thousand articles published in Predator journals. We found that actually the most frequent corresponding authors were from what we would call first world countries countries with lots of money and lots of resources that is troubling very troubling because it suggests that at these institutions authors may not Be Aware of predatory journals and are we need to obviously ramp up some educational activities. People think that they're sending the manuscript to a legitimate respected journal. When it's really just a phony dough mix international journal and then they quickly accept the paper without any peer review and then send them an invoice and that point the authors realized that something is wrong because There was really no peer reviewed done yet papers accepted and they have this two thousand dollars invoice that comes through email and the olmecs demanding payment. Most of them asked to withdraw the paper when they realized that they've been duped. But then omits says says you can't withdraw your paper unless you pay US withdrawal fee. An often than olmecs will publish the article quickly and one of their journals and then and they can't submit it anywhere else. Because that would be duplicate submission it would be publishing the same article twice. which is something not supposed to do that? Nothing about Predatory Street Journal devoted to pose to happening time as John Bohannon Govett when he hit them. Attest yes yeah so I just wanted some data. It's frustrating to have such an enticing story of you know bad actors that potentially raking in millions of ill-gotten dollars dollars and not get some data to find out if it's true. We stay in molecular biology from offered. Clave he plotted experiment which was pretty straightforward. And the idea in a nutshell is if I submit a really and I mean truly bad scientific paper to your journal final and you accept it with no sign of any peer review and you asked me for money then you're you're a fake journal Publisher Sharma sure. Yeah John Wanted to take to how easy it was to get published in a predatory journal it can usually take many months used even to get a pipe into a reputable contact general and even then it's not a given that partly because of what's called Peer Review essential to the conduct protest. You Do Fairmont you. You brought it up reporting your results. Submit it to a journal and then it pulled destroyed by a bunch of other daunting

"Bay at all. I think New Orleans this year you know after last year's debacle versus the rams that referee crap. I think they go in honesty when the super bowl say flat out they definitely have a chip on their shoulder. They only had three losses. This is this year to flu. Glosses one who Atlanta which. They knew that they played horrible. That Sanford game. which was the last person to have the ball that was that it was? I think New Orleans will go into San Fran in the NFC championship in and bounced back against them and win the Super Bowl. I just think we know that they're they've been

"Jobs provides a lot of economy. So don't feel like you shouldn't come here. Because we're experiencing extreme extreme gentrification but do so mentally and make sure to educate yourselves about some of the issues that you'll experience while you're here it's a great city to visit. It's a beautiful city. It's a vibrant city. It's a romantic city. Just educate yourself and make sure that you are traveling as responsibly. Yeah which is a weird pivot but she said romantic and I Kinda WanNa talk about our most romantic story in San Francisco is a weird visit so weird pivot. Let's do I don't no how to I don't know how to there's no graceful. There's no graceful way to end that conversation that we just had my favorite San Francisco story is about the time. Well I. It's about when our first dates so we're a few months into dating and we go to this fancy Sushi date in San Francisco and on that date Leah He's got a weird sense of humor and they were what they were getting. The tables set up for like the breakfast service or whatever and they had these tiny little jars of jam and mustard. They were really cute. They're Super Q. They were like the size of a thimble. They're really tiny. I don't even know how you were supposed to get all of the jam out of there but Leah thought it'd be funny if we would just steal them so she was like what is huges. Go Up in St Louis Jar of me. Is that when you're laughing and trying to talk. I don't know if I was laughing. I might have just been like all right guy that we've been on three days. Here's what we're going to jail. He was more than three. We're GONNA steal all these jars so anyway I don't want to be a wet blanket. I'll save that for after we're married and now I'm like fine. Let's do these jars so one of us like distracts the waitress. We have a whole song and dance and we do like a weird little creep around the table and just swoop if one of the jars. Yeah it was pretty smooth honestly and that was the point in which we descended into a night of pure criminal exploitation. We became mm-hmm like extreme criminals. Guys this is. This is the story about the time we were criminals. Yeah we decided that we were going to steal every every useless thing that we could find everything that like. Nobody would care. Somebody stole it. We were GONNA steal. We rode the elevator down from the restaurant. There was on the third floor and those little floor marking signs of the end of the elevators. One of them was the glue was coming off and so I took it. We stole it. We stole that. It was number three. I should have it in our apartment. Didn't give a fuck. We superstars how that's how intense I am. We were bad. We were so bad we took. It was so dumb stuff. It was like men's when we didn't talk to the person who is handing out the or like a toothpick or I think I grabbed a piece of potpourri counter. We had like this little collection and then I decided to take it up a notch and I was like all right. It's really cool that we're stealing stuff but let's go sneak into stuff. I want to trespass because we were dressed up like really fancy like you're wearing like your fanciest suit formation and the cost twenty dollars and I was wearing like a thrift store address and I was like we're fancy. Now let's go sneak stuff like we belong there so we went to this hotel that we won't say which it is but it has a famous elevator. We're not going to tell you which one it is because we are full on going to tell you a bunch of secrets about it that you should not do so. It's got famous elevator which we won't tell you about what we can tell you is that you can take that elevator up to a very cool tower with very cool view Except for you have to have a room key to take the elevator. We snuck behind these fancy old people who clearly we're we're going up to the tower like acted like we also were going up to the tower press the button and I was like. Oh yeah same floor Harambe I. I was like remember Matt Profits Mirror so we went up there and we went through an emergency exit door and it was just started like skulking around the floor like poking stuff and like stealing seeing what we could steele steely Moist Towelettes Car O. We did steal a moist. Towel Ed Yeah and yeah so then we've found like this door and we just we were like. Let's open this door because we were being hardened criminals at this point. Let's open the store and Trespass Amore and it was like this really cool like little like fire escape way up in like this. Like top floor of this tower. That looked out over the twinkling lights of San Francisco and it was so romantic. This story is not going to get sexy there. Isn't it no nose X.. Happened but I will say that one of the things people do in this famous elevator. That we won't tell you anything about is they hit the emergency Uh Stop Button and the bang. which we didn't do we do not do that? We are definitely not that cool so we walked the Fairmont and we start we were started wandering around L. I. O.. More stuff. I WANNA take this like I want to apologize to the Fairmont here. We love the FAIRMONT. We have a lot of love for this specific San Francisco. Fairmont hotel is not bill but we definitely bent some rules during our visit to the Fairmont. We definitely may have stolen some blocks of soap. I think link and cements. They had some cute little pill laments and we weren't staying there and we took some this was. This was the only remotely big deal steel that we got actually. Yeah we that the I've pulled a piece off of the off of Chandelier in a conference room. I guarded the door. I guarded the door Jeremy Stolen. He's the chandelier. Look Fairmont hotel. If you want your piece of chandelier shaped like a pinecone back we still have it somewhere in our apartment you can have it back but yes we deal it. We are horrible people so after our thefts were done and we made off with the booty we had like a whole. Oh collection of like random shit. Do we went down to terrorist room and there was an Indian wedding going on and we were just like let's crash this wedding and then and we realized like we shouldn't crash a wedding. That's not okay but it was really fun for the five minutes that we were there before we realized that we were being the rudest people everything smelled so good I just wanted to plow through their buffet and it was like everybody was dancing in lake. It was so much fun we did not plow through their buffet. That was like that was the line. We were like all right. No no further so we went onto the rooftop. It's got this rooftop terrace that looks over the city. Got these big palm trees with lates. It's super for romantic. We're like gazing out at the twinkling lights of San Francisco while the fog rolled in and this was like our third date. There's an our third day. Why do you keep saying that? I don't know third month of data it was it was early. We went to the edge of the terrorists and it was super romantic. We at this point. I hadn't said I love you now. But we're like gazing the which others is and I was like he's going to do it. This is the perfect time to say. I love you said so. Do you want to go downstairs to the room for a nightcap and it was the most disappointing thing ever although the room was great and I love the room but I did not say I love you there I should have will get into the actual story of when I said that at a different episode so a few months go by six months it was real early and and I have this grand scheme that I'm GonNa ask Mary me he had no idea. Are you kidding me. I knew within like I knew the next day after the Fairmont I was like that's where he's that's what he's he's GonNa do and you're GonNa do it on our anniversary. She was clueless So I- reenacted a bunch of dates that we had had in our first year we had a picnic The ferry building we love picnic. It was Christmas time and so there was ice skating in Union Square. Romantic time in the air. Yeah I love Union Square in Christmastime Times the only time I like Union Square but we went to union square to to go ice skating and took one look at people ice skating and was like nope I have like fragile knees your superclubs really clumsy and we snuck back up to that elevator. Joe Named we went back in the elevator. Win the -mergency exit stovepipe standby whatever stovepipes. Frosty the snowman. Whatever we trespassed again it was a good time and then we had dinner bar team which is now targeting manufacturer and then went back to the family And at this point Leah's still still has no I know my God. And we're wandering the FAIRMONT. There's a beautiful gingerbread house because it's Christmas and we walk out on the terrorists. Know hold on. You rushed me passage into Red House. I was like Oh my God. I want to look at other gingerbread houses. It's pretty we're like no. We have to go up to the roof right now. Like why gotta go. It is because I had set this up where our friend was waiting in a Bush in the freezing cold December weather San Francisco. She was there for a while there for so long. And do you want to say what happened. You asked me to marry you boom and you open it by being like like when you go today. It wasn't a year ago today. Whatever I should've asked you to marry me Arrow? Let me do this terrible this. I said that I should have said that I love you. Are there because it was super romantic and I decided that I was GonNa make up for it right now and then a god down on that and I was like at our friend. Our a friend was like a hiding in the Bush taking low-quality here's a worst quality pictures. They were like blurry cell phone pictures in the middle of the night and it was. You can't see anything not our that. Sorry be but there was like a really drunk couple that swore that they had pictures for us. Never send them to us. We're still waiting on those. If you're out there please we send us our wedding pictures. Come on Heather and then we went down to the room and we celebrated with all of our friends like arranged. A surprise party. Surprised that one. You actually actually didn't see come now. You didn't see coming when I booked our first our wedding night. After our wedding at the FAIRMONT. Because we can't afford that Shit without credit card right points. That part of the story does get sexy. Don't feel so violated now. We love the Fairmont and Fairmont on San Francisco holds a special place in our heart because we have so many moments there and it's such a beautiful place this is not sponsored by the FAIRMONT. But if you're listening we're not turning away sponsorships remove both. Yeah it was. That was my favorite San Francisco Story. It was super romantic You're a big old softy. Real mushy and disgusting. And I love you. I know that we gave San Francisco a lot of love but we live in Oakland. But I promise that we have in Oakland episode coming up because Oakland is one of the best different than San Francisco Cisco but we'll do that on a future episode and I think to close off this episode. What have we did like a little mash? Up of all of our favorite San Francisco songs but like only like take a few seconds each so that we don't violate the copyright. What do you think a little mash? Up Son Fra In San Francisco. San Francisco's call Vic Johnson. MM SMOOTH SMOOTH PARVO and Cisco..

"Next month. We've been seeing it for the last few years. It's it's a buffy. The vampire slayer drags really take a whole season of buffy and they make it into the most amazing epic drag show like there's like special effects initial. Yeah it's ridiculously good like the production quality is like I was blown away my last thing and again. This is seasonal. Because it's usually just hot weather and you have a ton of options here but go to a festival there are music festivals such as hardly strictly Bluegrass side land outside lands exactly but there's also tons of like street fairs like the how Weird Festival kicks off the festival season in April. The Pride Festival is huge. The job usually there's the FOLSOM street festival. which if you're in the city in September Selassie Sunday September so fulsome is the leather festival? We're done kink. Not just like you know cowboys cowboys cowboys. But we're talking about like kink leather. which is awesome? If you're into that is a little jarring if you're just here with your your family and you didn't have that discussion beforehand. Maybe just you know just know if you're coming in to check if you're coming during FOLSOM street fair. It's a lot of fun if you are willing to be in that space and not be judgmental in that space and understand boundaries and consent and all that kind of thing which is very ah very much enforced to their But butter which is right next to folsom. We talked about Carioca butter after folsom street. Fair is a blast. It is next next level wild because fulsome starts like before noon and Karaoke doesn't start until nine thirty pm so yeah people have been getting real messy bring ringer course. So I mentioned one of the one of the best things that San Francisco has is our food. That's my like eighth. Best thing to do in San Francisco is just like eat just just like eat everything we have the best food here. What would you say is like one of the tops? Okay so you can't come to San Francisco and not have clam chowder bowl like I know it's Cliche but it's Cliche for a reason because it's delicious richest and super filling cozy and it's always like cold and foggy rate so I talked about our Lake Self guided walking tour. That's one of the things along the tour because you pass right by booting bakery like they had like a factory where they make sourdot and they create these little sour dough bread bowls and also like adorable. sourdot animals in the shape of turtles which is my favorite And then they put like clam chowder in it. And it's really good and honestly like I want to tell you it's like the best clam chowder in the world. The bread is pretty good But it's just like one of those classic San Francisco Cisco Things and it is really cozy and it hits the spot every time I grew up and coastal town and so I grew up eating clam Chowder interbred bowl and I will say that I I still am not tired of San Francisco's clam chowder rebel. Yeah it's good for a reason. I have a place in my heart. Very near and dear for burritos. Rita's San Francisco. Your whole heart. I feel your heart is actually just burrito shaped it's the doctor says I need less really unhealthy so oh San Francisco really loves their Britos so much in fact that that they will fight you if you like the wrong burrito and talking about yourself. I'll fight you if you say you liked the wrong burrito and now you're you're right it's the San Francisco Bay. There was a national competition for the best Burrito in the country and San Francisco held the two of the four finalists spots. Now there are two that are Mijo. Choose the first one is Tucker Cancun but they have a couple of locations the one in nineteen th and mission is the best one. I can't believe you have a specific location to you. Not so ridiculous. How long have you lived here? I live in Oakland The other one that I I really like is l.. Far Alito on twenty four th in mission but the actual winner of the competition was locked up career all three of them good options. But I do love Doc Kuhn the most okay. You're not going to back. That claim up. We're GONNA have a angry people on. You're just gonNA leave that there. No those people are going to walk down mission street and have three Burritos and then and then tweet at us saying that I was right. The first one was the best. I would like pictures to go with that when you do that at practical wander. Thank you I'm going to say if you WanNa Burger in San Francisco. Your best bet is super duper. It's not something that we're like super known for but super-duper is definitely other than in and out like a a classic Burger Place to go in San Francisco. I would also had oysters to the list like a local thing. There's a whole bunch of local oyster farms up near point race and we get like really good. Ed like usually about one dollars each oysters and you can get those Swan Depot. They are delicious. Just I know they're kind of like squishy or whatever but like just shoot them they're actually really good. One of my favorite replaces has actually gone through a lot of changes. And it's one of the more boozy places in San Francisco it used to be called Martine and then the restaurant closed and kept open their bakery but now the restaurants back and it's called Tarquin manufacturing and we are a second date at Barton special place in our hearts. Yeah that's a really really special place for us because he is our second date and I- scrimped and saved for that date years. I imagine you boy was broke. It was sweet though. He was like sweating when we sat down and he looked at the menu. And I could tell so. I think we like ordered like one. APPETIZER to share. And just like savored it for a while but it was really cute and you paid which was nice it was one of. Are Those all take the salad and a water situation. Yeah and I think we shared the salad and the water. California was in a drought at the time. Another one is you gotta get get dumplings like San Francisco has a really rich history with Asian culture and we have incredible Asian food one of the best places to get soup. Dumplings MS dumpling kitchen which is like Over on the western side of San Francisco around Golden Gate Park. You'll be getting into the foggier areas so bring layers But the soup you've dumplings or like the my pillow little fluff balls of soup and they are so good. The next place that I would recommend is called foreign cinema and it is always on like the top op restaurants of San Francisco. It's been on there for years. It's been one of the best restaurants in San Francisco for a minute. Yes so you sit outside. There's like a little awning and when you eat while there's like a giant projector playing a foreign film and Oh hence the name hence the name we went there once on a SCAVENGER hunt date which we'll talk about later future episode and it was awesome. Yeah but we were way too should house to enjoy that meal. I remember I remember being being like. This is the best steak I've ever had and I think I might have through it up later and felt really bad about it. It was so good and then the other really good like fancied fancier despite which is still surprisingly affordable if you wanna like ball out but like not like French laundry ball out which was like four hundred dollars a meal? This is more like the thirty dollars. Range is Noga and it's an awesome restaurant. It's definitely fruity and boozy. But like affordable and you can if you sit in the second level you can watch them in the kitchen which is really fine. It's like dinner and a show. Yeah we did that a couple of times except one time. There was a fire in the kitchen. Probably our faults we bring bad luck everywhere we ago we do. That's a theme throughout this podcast. Spoilers spoilers What about drinks like now thirsty? What are your favorite drinks in San Francisco? One of my favorite places to get aid. Drink is ritual coffee but like a coffee drink drink. He takes a coffee drink. The only one that thinks thinks that's funny okay. Whatever they're not all going to land I mean if you WanNa if you WANNA merge coffee handle Whiskey Whiskey drink? There's two cafe yeah. I Love Win Investor Cafe. They were the first restaurant or bar. I guess to introduce Irish coffee in. They say all all of North America but definitely San Francisco and it's like they do the whole thing like the age it and it's really freaking good if you go to like the very back of the restaurant. There's this little room that nobody ever really knows about with this window. That looks out on the water. Like out on over gearless square. And it's really really pretty. Yeah you can also get your coffee. You can get with whiskey or Cognac in yards or brandy sorta choose what alcohol you want. I also will say you glass right over another opportunity for a completely shameless self-promotion self-promotion which is that. If you Google the best shops in San Francisco you will find our blog on it. We have a guide it was written by a Barista in San Francisco. Shout out to Tom. Yeah Jeremy Actually when we met that was a Barista in San Francisco which is probably why remarried live in that highlife. That's like trophy has been goals for me. He doesn't make me coffee every single morning and brings it to me in bed so so sometimes it's instant much like shame you had when you said that if it's an sweetest thing they don't let me into coffeeshops good instant though you know ritual has five dollars per packet instant coffee now do. That's crazy to me. So so since we're facing in twos my two favorite bars are actually owned by the same company and those are Bourbon and branch and tradition and all of this company's bars are like speak easy themed but sort of a like a different varying levels. Throw prohibition themed let's say and and Bourbon and branch is super speakeasy. You need to you. Need a code word to get inside and the code word decides which room you get into so you can go to the normal all like booths or going to tell you the password or you can or you can go into the library area which is sort of standing room only or you can go into the secret. Detective -tective agency which is where we had that like fancy cocktail class that we took. I didn't even know there was a secret to attack agency inside the bar but it turns out if you dig a how class there you get to go in. The whole bar is hidden so you just walk passing. It doesn't look like anything but then if you take a class here in the detective agency and now I can't not see the detective agency. Yeah now we know. Our eyes have been opened but in tradition is a little bit more like a regular bar. There's no password it's still looks prohibition ask but they do their own casket. So they'll one of my favorites. Is They have a twelve year. Bow More Scotch. That's aged in Pinot noir asked sounded so do she's saying that like I love you but like you did is delicious if we if you just like beer and your life is rolling.

"We should probably move to the next auto okay so my next one is exploring golden gate park which talked about. We talked about Cal Academy we talked about the Bison. It's huge Golden Gate Park. We already said it's bigger than Central Park. It's it stretches all the way from Like the Haight Ashbury neighborhood which you've probably heard of because hippies to the ocean is enormous and you could just spend all day walking through it biking through it like you'll probably come come across lake some cool hippies that have been there since the sixties you'll probably come across like random other museums the museum there which is really awesome and it's just gorgeous. There's a beautiful Japanese garden in the middle of their and you just feel like you stepped into Japan. There's just so much to do in there. You could spend days just getting lost in there and then while you're on that side of the city my other one that I really love in that area is called the batteries to bluffs trail so this is one of my favorite places to view the Golden Gate Bridge. Because you've always he's got to look at it right like you can't come to San Francisco and not take a bunch of bridge southeast but if you go to like the touristy bridge spot there's just a bunch of tourists and a parking lot and it's just like not the best so head up the road a little bit. And you'RE GONNA go into the presidio which is like this beautiful national not national. It's a state park but anyway it's just like park area around the Golden Gate Bridge and and there's this trail that runs from these old historic batteries. All the way down to the ocean and at the bottom of the ocean when you get to the end of the trail is a nude beach which is just a fun little San Francisco experience. You know you can't really you can't say you've been a San Francisco if you didn't see some deck it's not directly at the bottom of the stairs. You gotta you gotTa wonder around the bottom bottom of the stairs and five feet. I believe this is also where burning man was started right. Yeah Yeah so But that's definitely the best place to see the Golden Gate Bridge and it's just a beautiful. It's like one mile trail and it's just it's lovely highly. Recommend what are your favorite. Must Do's so mine are a few minor pretty seasonal the first one which okay. I'm way too old to party anymore. I got that all out in the twenty s but I will say that one of the best parties by far is Beta breakers which happens in the spring and it's a marathon that starts at the bay so on the eastern side of the city and it goes goes down market street and down Hayes all the way over to the ocean on the other side and just making this sound exhausting. It's a marathon but that's not at all it matters. No that's like that's like like what it is on the surface but really what it is is everybody follows the marathon runners and just parties through the city. Everyone gets in crazy costumes costumes and everybody tries to hide alcohol because like officially you can't have alcohol but everyone is drunk and UC super interesting costumes. And it's all like these group costumes. Our favorite one was a group dressed as the Jurassic Park ride. They even had a tyrannosaurus rags and he would like come pop up and they would all be like Has a little yellow strap. said they would like get into order. It was super cute. I just love how you're doing. Like rollercoaster moves right now which nobody nobody can see. Because it's a podcast. While I was doing rollercoaster moves anyway. It's a huge part of. There's so many like house parties that you pass along the route to. It's just so much fun. My first week week that I was in San Francisco was Beta breakers and I live on the route and my roommates just woke me up with a pin gwyn costume a shot and a PBR. And he was like it's it's Beta breakers will explain later. Don't let anyone use our bathroom which you did not follow. No I did follow it but the year before they didn't they let one person in the bathroom and then they got finished getting ready and they walked out and there was like a line of twenty people in the living room. Those informative dead. Yeah but it's Super Fun Even if you're not a big drinker last time we were there we were sober and we still had a lot of fun. You do have to be comfortable with naked people because like we said it is legal here in nudity is just part of Beta breakers and and you just you gotta learn to live with that. You're in San Francisco. We usually start like a bet that is boobs buts or Dick's game which twins we're GonNa see the most of and we keep a running tally which I've realized that's always win. It covers their but but they're like oh but frying fall hanging out now but they're always out it's always win running out scalise. That's always my other must do. My other recommendation is a picnic and Dolores Park fellow. I'm hoping we cut that out now. We're not cutting it out. Dolores Park is a park between the mission and the Castro throw. It is one of the most beautiful views and it's always got the best weather and it's real easy to spot because everyone is going. They're not even. I'm just on a weekend weekdays two. It's always filled with people drinking becoming like nobody in San Francisco has job. Apparently everyone brings their dogs. Everyone ruined brings like some elaborate game. I remember seeing giant beer pong where they had like the rubbermaid trash cans instead of Red Solo Cup. That's amazing and they use a beach ball. I I may actually be able to do that. I'm pretty good at that. There's also a Guy Michael also known as the room coconut guy. He's got long dreads and he just walks around with bag of Michetti and a cooler and he'll just pull a coconut out and offer you like a coconut and then he'll hack it up and then pour rum and and if you want. There's the girl with the Swiss Miss Outfit with edibles. Yeah she's got edibles of all kinds like and they're all serial based so it's like I really like fruit. I really like APPLEJACK applejack so I wanted to have an apple. Jacks edible and no like weed is legal in California but this has been going on since longtime ago way before it was actually legal legal. But they're still they're like they don't care anytime somebody and Dolores Park walks up and like offers you something just you know by it. It's probably fine but also assume it's got weeded. There's even an app you can find your friends in Dolores. Park dislike most San Francisco APP that I've ever heard of this is called Dullsville another thing that I always say to do and again this is only half the year but you have to go to a giants game Oracle Park is beautiful eighteen. At and T.. Sorry I know it used to be used to be packed bill. No that's too old. Yeah so it's one of the most actually is the most beautiful park in the country. Ballpark I mean. Is that just like you saying that or no. That was the Major League Baseball Association. Okay they have a ton of great food. Because because it's San Francisco. We have the best food. Don't add me but got really good. Food are like garlic. Fries are seem so good. Our team used to be good. Wow how I don't think a lot to be fan if you say that no years. That hasn't been even years have been the case since two thousand fourteen go is all right. I I live in Oakland all right. There's also really good drink. Drink options Gear Deli has like salted caramel hot chocolate thousand. That was what I was GONNA say him. Go see a game but it does get freezing if it's a night game or blazing hot if it's a day game. Yeah because there's a lot of sun exposure and you also get really like moist like if you're still at the park nine pm. No it's true like moist because the fog rolls in the fog rolls in and you you just realize you're just soaking wet. Even though it's not raining in theory and then Siegel start like circling overhead. And you just Kinda round like ten. PM You just. I just feel like you're in like the birds you got out of there. If you've ever been no baseball game you know that around the seven and seventh innings. Stretch your thinking. Oh they're up by a few points. The game might might turn. But you also know that there's very few dramatic endings to baseball games. So I will say that if you get to that point and you realize the game's GonNa go one way. Just go just go. It's impossible supposed to get on the first train home. You're going to be there. You'RE GONNA be out until midnight. My fourth thing is to see a show now that a few things so it can mean a concert a play it could mean drag show There's tons of news where this is possible. There's a lot more independent places like Bottom of the hill is a smaller caller venue. But it's really famous because a lot of now famous people have played there. The mission has a ton of different venues. Protrero Hill has a lot. The tenderloin has a lot so you can just find like either a small or a large one and most days of the week. There's either GonNa be a concert a drag show or play so the orpheum and The Act Theater have off Broadway shows so we just saw Hamilton there all right. We're not going to talk about that. I didn't hate it I just anyway. We're GONNA just things a lot for putting me on blast on our podcast. Our favorite drag show is coming up next month. The Pride Festival is huge. which obviously there's the FOLSOM street festival? which if you're in the city in September Selassie Sunday September so fulsome is the leather festival? We're done kink. Not just like you know cowboys cowboys cowboys. But we're talking about like kink leather. which is awesome? If you're into that is a little jarring if you're just here with your your family and you didn't have that discussion beforehand. Maybe So you just you know just know if you're coming in to check if you're coming during FOLSOM street fair. It's a lot of fun

"A Thursday night definitely check out my next thing this goes with your your like amy. Schumer messy beam karaoke at butter. So butter is a white white trash themed bar which we love. And I'm allowed to say away trash because I'm from Kentucky in you're allowed to say white trash because I was born Bakersville. Yes I was going to say it so basically really every Sunday night. Butter does Kariuki. So you can get like you're white trash themed drinks which talk about later and you're white trash themed food think like you know deep fried twinkies and Ravioli out of a can and sing Karaoke and like you might be picturing like some down home you know drunk Mascaro key but this is like this is like we're series Carrio years like come to play this highbrow hot Mascara. There's actually like a competitive like Karaoke teams Francisco this up. It's one guy I. It has a competitive shirt I don. I can't vouch for this that it's an actual league. But he does. We did see a shirt one time. So you like nine and basically you need one song and you can having to have practiced your song. Because you're only going to get the thing. The song and I know that sounds less fun. But it's way more fun because you feel like a rockstar. And we'd love Karaoke butter so much that we actually hire the Karaoke Dj EJ to do our wedding reception. 'cause we had karaoke wedding reception and it was awesome. Yeah he's also got like really cool selection of of songs that you you've definitely heard these songs things whether they were in like video games or like obscure references deep you goes. He's got a deep bench. Yeah but there's also a caveat if you're going to sing Bohemian Immune rhapsody or don't stop believe in you have to pay five dollars. Yeah the Katie days name is Roger Niner. We love him he also does the same. Where like if you're sucking on your song? He will jump. I've been an sing with you. And he he has the voice of an angel. It's not just if you're sucking on it if he's also into the Song Oh yeah and they'll harmonize with you. You don't have to do at partner. He'll be your duet partner. It's it's actually so fun and you'll probably see us there if you go because we go a lot. I usually do under pressure with him. That's pretty mercury. Yeah I usually do Britney spears. It's still a show. I also do Johnny Cash. It's easy go to. We should probably move to the next auto okay so my next one is exploring golden gate park which talked about. Y. dot on Sunday night while we go on monel mondo again Sarah Rogers you know I feel dapper Joe from Green Bay but they're just going to hammer the Packers you would know right sure right off the bat throw the defense is been much improved this year not as soft as they have been in previous seasons and your Aaron Rodgers will be running for his life there is no offense of light that can stop goes down for like that then they will just come after him and I feel bad for air rises up always like in my one of my Niners to dry out there but unfortunately he went to the packing he's gonna pay dearly tomorrow night I like to smack talk I like your confidence I don't necessarily agree yes the Packers are one of my chief Aviano might protect for tomorrow buffalo is gonna handle Denver early one o'clock game and in two weeks running now I'd pick both the Sunday night game the Monday night game and I try to stay away from the money nine game just in general but if I really think it's one of the best pics I got appointed in my six pack I like both the Sunday night game in the Monday night game since I've already ticked off everybody in the bay area I might as well just go ahead and pick the Packers to win a game hi it's good not to do it tech and people often a bay area I actually take green bay's got a chance to go in there and win and I'll surely take three and a half points because the forty forty nine is rightfully at home are the favorite they should be there you have points I'm gonna take the Packers and in a Monday night game I'm in a raven's until of ravens me wrong I have jumped on their bandwagon with both feet they're playin improved defense no one's got an answer for Lamar Jackson they can run the ball down people's throats when Lamar and would dare do all running backs their running game my take is as good as their brands the KNBR KNBR after San Francisco presentation on Westwood One sports the pac twelve pursuit for a spot in this year's college football playoff is gaining steam thanks in part to the guys from Salt Lake City hotly brings Dixon across the formation turns it gets at the mosque six the third seven drank Utah's run right over the opposition during its current six game winning streak and the user closing in on a second straight trip to the pac twelve championship game the head coach Kyle Whittingham is trying to keep the playoff noise out well certainly gets louder and and there's more of a you still got to take the same approach saying them all just not listening and not paying attention to it just keep your vision into focus with what what the task at hand this is hopefully we don't from that now at this point Utah's final road game takes them to to sign to face struggling Arizona Wildcats just roughed up by the pac twelve other playoff hopeful in Oregon Kevin someone's team can still went out for a ball game which I did postseason play that's what's important and to do that we go through some pretty good castles the twentieth right so that's where we are right now instead of all this other talk about for the this is the last year's game now we're trying to get to postseason play and if we do it within our senior night for the Wildcats as they look to shake up the.

NFL's Braylon Edwards tells all in new book

"Our next guest had a legendary career at Michigan he was outstanding receiver in the NFL he is the author of a new book in the title really does say it all doing it my way my outspoken life as a Michigan Wolverines NFL receiver and beyond it's a pleasure to welcome to this sporting life the one and only Braylon Edwards Braylon thank you for joining us. the long time it's been a long time since we spoke at an end and as you were dressed in the book Braylon when people think about you they don't just think about your talents as a receiver they don't think about the big games that AC title games or the rose bowls they think about the controversies what you you delve into them in this book why did you want to you know dredge all that stuff up. a lot of times people get attention as they tell their story or what exactly happened so one thing come out is more so with the perception is that the time and then it becomes a story and in all the years you know and that's what it is written in stone so it was a good time for me to be able to tell all the stories and under every story from do you eyes two incidents outside my clothes will arise and people works better there were other things at at playing in those situations but I just sold you know not saying anything but the media dictate that the media the media personnel for markings dictate a on one matter and I got quiet never said anything and those things never get a chance to you know get toggle plus a lot of good things happen to you know there's a lot of philanthropic endeavors that happened a lot happier off the field have a great there are a lot of other things to talk about you know depression bullying when I was a kid so it's a heck of a store and has a lot of things that we can put out there in the book speaking with Braylon Edwards the former Pro Bowl receiver the former Michigan Wolverines star he was the third overall pick in the two thousand five NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns it only your third season in the league Braylon you at twelve hundred eighty nine receiving yards right AT receptions are your pro bowler you had some other good years notably with the jets in twenty ten almost a thousand yards receiving but you're clear didn't go the way you hoped it would go eight and and although he lasted much longer than most last in the NFL you you you were someone who is thought of as a hall of fame talent. if their injuries there are other things that went on what was it like just being caught up in that maelstrom and and not being able to get every ounce of your talents to use every ounce the weight that you would have wished our records right you know a lot of times he says spray Kato where you go online for you were you drafted what can you play for I was not at the Cleveland Browns and United play with injuries and uncertainties and continue with. in your world organizational changes office according to head coach ownership ID with kids go to New York Jets have young quarterback was did it for us but there wasn't a lot of. Aaron it outside there were you going to have success then I had a knee injury San Fran I rushed back to the field to get out there because your Harbaugh's how could a person on and it was the first time I hadn't been in a stable situation you know I got that right is a one year deal there was no stability there was no next year there was no gas I was going to start so when I got hurt when I was starting to try to come back try to rise back needed never was the same a play for Seattle I still feel the nails in quarters on sat I'm way way too young at their target core those that travel more time with jet and two thousand thirteen and Lincoln totally with Michael in the preseason against the Jaguars. it is it was times that I mean I I I will smite curricula definitely connect them when I was a kid the one of those guys. got drafted in the end of the first round to the coat so to the you know to a team that won the cowboys Burgoon a play yard can do more to maybe just have a consistent office right you know it is clear that I had seventeen quarterbacks and and for that reason I remember I remember all those guys no no I mean it's hard to remember all of them but I remember that there were a lot of them yeah I mean it was the with Braylon Edwards and his new book is doing it my way my it's spoken life is a Michigan Wolverine NFL receiver and beyond really before we let you go it's great catching up after all these years but you've been out in the news a little bit recently you're talking about your alma mater talk about your former coach Jim Harbaugh and and the words you've used I think are light years behind that team in Columbus Ohio a lot Ohio state and it's it's everyone's entitled to their opinion and I would never discourage anyone from sharing their opinions especially someone with the standing that you have what makes you say that the other than the fact that Michigan's lost fourteen out of fifteen to Ohio state well for them and that's a great start but United in the in the space of the conversation that was more so long live. as they have the idea of a state trooper who over the last year he started without one which says look from trestle so first we'll start a minor. by my Dennis they're gonna have a quarterback that can run quarterbacks that can pass the ball sort thank you have athletes at the wide receiver position they could take the ball and taunted him call back and have a great run again and I have great uses if you look at the changes over the last eighteen years they all have the same I didn't you know how they're able to have success in order to be a national championship game you have to have the formula is you need a defense that can play and win games defense bill instead but you have to have a quarterback yeah arguably in highland conversation that definitely should be first team all conference and you have to have a running back that is potentially a second round us or in the hive in conversation apply when you look at certain things all have stayed in one of when you watch them play you see a team that you know has the potential to be there at the end of the year we watch Oklahoma we watch the cleanse Alabama Georgia where you are these things you see something bad okay this is this is even ten straight year with a Honda fit yet so you know that we watch miss again you have the same question each year by year who's going to be the quarterback who's going to run the ball on this game hasn't had that yeah all dirt like Lansing Michigan office is that lived in our rabbit I do not around and finished in two thousand twelve two thousand thirteen and before that you know who the other guy you know was listening at the wide receiver play make would like this guy's just it is with the the creme de la creme like he's the one I don't mean to talk about my is usually does our ideas right. nineteen ninety six so what's being said ideas on that that was going to take forty Janes national I mean by light years behind my house they get sick and they stay true lies we've been asking the same question of Michigan there's love the arms of our book let's go the radio because the rates right every year who's the quarterback the quarterback gonna be who's going to be an issue I can always between three guys it's never a guy would never moving the next season of their lives guys come back we're gonna build around him even this year's like say that is in that wires yeah this is what I said okay last year but even if your life is your McAfee gonna be you guys Joe Miller even twenty years ago when one of those guys was named Tom Brady couldn't get the job exactly or did you incident Brady is it US got left cooking the bouldering so it's always a question about the way I received right I have you so those are questions at the major institutions that away those are not the question so I did and that's what I mean by light years I know people eight years I would say in the way. that's what I mean the identity has not been there it's it's tough love for Braylon Edwards for his beloved Wolverines his new book is doing it my way my outspoken life and it is still outspokenness Michigan Wolverine NFL receiver and beyond Braylon as I said it's a pleasure catching up with you and congratulations with the book and a good luck with us on as many as possible so I like to tell the others to come on the show. thank you maybe I will we'll catch up with the recap in a round thanksgiving before those they I would love to do

"Look at these college line six and a half lot of times we don't think twice about it the NFL six and has a lot of poor expressed down the road if he flipped it I mean would you be wanting a late twelve and a half at home I don't think I'd be the case but with that being said well that was kind of covered eight straight meetings Harbaugh's really good season openers as far as winning a covering lean Baltimore for me. is this the lowest opening week total and history. all nice little word as a remote yeah I like it I like the under this came out of the dolls and screening out recently but yeah we'll see you T. agrees with you they have a thirty nine everywhere else in town has thirty nine I have currently as Baltimore at Miami Baltimore six and a half and thirty nine San Francisco on the road it's a pick up game now against Tampa Bay but there's a lot of places where you can get up to a point a half was San Fran fifteen have to fifty one the total including fifteen half your CGT Virginia grapple hopefully can stay healthy but I think this Niners team they have potential I I think their potential to make the postseason even coming out of the NFC west even with Seattle and the rams looking forward to this game by cattle little bit banged up but he's going to go they've got players including the play maker the brand I like that South Carolina depot Samuel meanwhile Tampa Bay James Winston if you can just take care of business and throw the ball to guys that are wearing his colors you'll be okay Mike Evans one of better receivers in the country and we know Chris Godwin outstanding as well. Tampa Bay San Fran it's a pick up for a reason I mean this game is going to be one that I want to watch Brad yeah tough games so I think Bruce Arians is an upgrade over over door quatre but with that being said tough one to handicap here San Francisco's lost twelve straight games in the eastern standard time zone but they catch a break.

"To it and afterwards. Well, heading for dinner. I ran around my cohorts while we were crossing sky walks to see how their mental health fared. My physical health will become a parent of this clip. Okay. So it is just the end of Thursday. And we I have just wrapped up being a guest on the. Mobile tech podcast. Starring none. Other than Miriam polo t. Hey, how's it going? It's gonna fight for me. But really the big question is how's it going for you? Because after what you've been here since when since Saturday morning, something that's five days, just as I have been here for Saturday five days. So long time it is. And the grind really gets. You doesn't it? Where are you out those rests? Timing to CS fun. And you get to see all the people. You wanna see seal tag, even the some of it is a little boring silly. But it's just it's just I love trade shows because in one sense, it's about the people, you know, that's a good thing. But then there's the about the people, which is bad thing because you have to deal with your with Vegas, y'all. It's like, I love hate Vegas hated. I love it. Because it's like thought home syndrome. A little bit. I kinda like it because I've never been here as a truce of only ever been here as a worker working. And so it's not about place to work. It's not at the same time. You know, the smoker snows casinos. The walking guy gets to your car is everywhere. It's logistically difficult here. So I mean, it's great for the rush while you're there, but you know, glad that's only a week out of fifty two. Right. Totally until you see which will be next week but bar, which is nicer, it's no, I'm I'm in love with that city and before that San Fran because Samsung. Oh, you stupid. Tear blacker sale anyways. Thanks a lot. Let me to see. How many people are going to talk to me for a second year coast? The sky McRae, Android. It's so good. I'm doing life. How about you? Are you doing life St.? We are all tired and exhausted just left the treasure Highland hotel. And we're Starbucks which I could really use. But you know, what that for a burger? To get you an airport yesterday do so like do this. I'm going to get the burger, and then I'm going to run into the left with the book, and then making of the left ship light. Hopefully, so how's it been for you to in terms of not just like coverage because we can talk all damn day out it, but you know, it's the end of my rolling audio log for the week and everyone to set on aftermath like how how their body minds like in the middle. This show has ended for me really with highs and lows because this morning it was up way too early five thirty infant. No, no, no. I know it was sure had had a helicopter ride to the microphone and then after that actually didn't book anything. So I spent the day working from bed, and I got to this podcast feeling great for me because I work from bed for the last day of the show. I feel Ben tastic. Greg in my experience is the opposite. Because I went to bed at four thirty this morning woke up at seven thirty this combination of the Samsung Roman Asians entered at thirty doing. Yes, there were there was a lot of things going on..

"So let's get to what we did in San Fran the Kenya. Not friendship edition. Yeah. This is what it's it's do. You still have your notes or just reading mind. Yeah. You're just reading this podcast was timeless because we did some Kenya. Not some would you rather 's? And I think later in the podcast we're going to dress them rumors to well. We are actually this is a big pocket address some rumors that weren't going on in Sanford that are just going to Bentley. Like people have been asking him eighty percent of my DMZ about these. Okay. Okay. But first canyon. Can you not by the way? God, I knew them voice on my Kenyan. Okay. You know? What? When I voiced your can you not? So when you are a voice over artists such as I. Which is you you don't just give them one. You give them a few ticks for your can you not those like can you not? And then I was like, Nah, I went. And they didn't use that. But they also changed syphilis near podcast. It's not can you not in my voice changed it to a lawyer voyeur, lower men's voice and the moon home. No, no. And I'm like, that's me. But they lowered it, and they made it sound like Seminoles, you breeze voice. But I kinda like it. Yeah. Well, me too love when people just like me. So I'm like a man, okay. Okay. Okay. So Mike, what was her kidding up? Friendship edition, right? Yeah. And to our friend, we know to each other to the river, and we each had five. So I still have written in my youth. I know what you know. What maybe I knew not of it lose all the notes of the good one. Okay. So I wrote can you not steal all my jokes. And I said can you not be funny than me? And that everyone. Big old like Adam flaws. And then I wrote Kenya not be prettier than me. And the whole crowd was like they fell thirty for me. They're like, it's true. No. Then when all no, you're like, oh, no. That's like oh, family guy. Have to you. That's all you ever say in our fridge it I like on family guy. Can you not know all the words to every song outperform me, can you not expect me to not outperform you that was basically it then I went Kenya. Not live in a different country. With that one. Can you not stare live in gas live in Canada? Born can you not be in a city that doesn't fly direct to Nashville? We'll take that up with Calgary Alberta. Because that is just rude. Calgary loves Nashville in Nashville of Calgary won't be wanting to go back and forth soldiers like make it happen. Can you not? I wrote can you not immediately hit send on your instance, story when we're being weird. So we said. That's. When does I love it? It does. On it. And at the. And then you say. Hey. We're like a so weird. You know what? Sometimes I get I get trigger happy on the send button for my 3-m stories. And I think I'm so funny at the time and then in the morning, I delete delete. All my DM's are like I think you've got a drinking problem. Caitlyn? And I said, no, my dad doesn't think so we're good here. He's a professional. Let me delete all of them, you dead delete a few and then, but when we brought the interest rate everyone left because we were so weird weird. And even just last night. I actually went did you have to press send when we were doing charades. And like, oh, cool. Oh, and I loved that one. I know and I was like, oh, I don't look the way. Lou don't get. So those were can you not friendship edition? I mean, you really got a lot more than me. I don't carry which means you will you. I like you more than you like me, and we get that..
