Amazon, arguing it did not distribute manufacturers sell the product and operated Maura's, a service provider. But the appeals court ruled that despite the fact that 1/3 party vendors sold the battery, Amazon control various aspects of the transaction, including marketing the product building, the woman and shipping a tour and Amazon branded packaging, one of the woman's attorneys told City News. Who would replace Kamala Harris as California Senator?

"We still have 12 weeks before the November election, Voters will decide between President Trump on my vice President Mike Pence against former Vice President Joe Biden and current Democratic vice presidential nominee California Senator Kamala Harris. But in Harris are victorious. Governor Newsome will have to appoint a new senator to serve the next two years here in California, and well, there's been early speculation on names like State Attorney General Javier Becerra and San Diego State Senator Toni Atkins. Another elected officials told the governor he's interested. Mayor of Imperial Beach Search, the DEA sent a note to the governor with a picture of him in a business suit with a surfboard and water, nothing his intention to seek the appointments If the Democrats win because Pamela Harris may become our next vice president, I notified Governor Newsome like everyone does not is via Twitter that I'd like to be on the collection left to be the next U. S. Senator put out Open seat. And I think it's important to have someone who's not from the insider circle in Sacramento on someone that's ready to help clean up California and fight for our planet and our ocean from day one. Well and yes, I think it was the announcement that color base attention picture of you in a business suit with your surfboard. Right. The water's edge. Kind of embodying what it means to be from Imperial Beach. Yeah, you know, and you're a bitch, maybe small. What? We're mighty, You know, I've seen the names of some of the more high profile candidates and you know the reality of California's in trouble countries in trouble, And so we need someone who's used to doing things without a lot of resource is gonna support. You could get things done quickly, and that's experience. I've had thereby be in that experience that we need for the next senator from California and as the native Senate, California someone who rested 500 California the lifeguard for the state and for the city of Baby, I'm ready for the job and just look forward to being considered by Governor Newsome. Well, obviously you've worked with the governor, and in fact, you've worked as high as going to the White House when it comes to the sewage issue along the border, with the issues coming out of Mexico to impact San Diego County Imperial Beach, the city of San Diego. Everywhere else here with its impact that profile of yours with that fight has gone to the highest level. Yeah, so you know, unfortunately, because sewage issue is continuing to happen. I ve had to reach out from everybody from the president of Mexico, too. You know, President Trump We've met Got Governor knew someone. The governor of Baja California. So yeah, felt the times were like more like an international diplomat rather than a mare. But that is good practice good experience for what it takes to be an effective senator. To give you credit. Since the minute she was in office, she has support our first queen of the border. She's put a lot of attention on period Beach. In fact, her California director came to Imperial Beach to visit her stop is in very involved in this issue, so she's been great on the tissue as well as Senator Feinstein, but it's time for a new direction and and that's what I'm putting My My name in the hat or handed the ring And you know there is a perception out there at some points where you know, San Diego geographically being where it is. So we feel that the state of times may forget about us or things like that. You know, putting San Diego right back up there and kind of raising our hand and saying, Hey, what about us? Yeah, you know, Right now we have two senators from Northern California from the Bay area, So obviously we need a lot more Southern California repetition and the fact that Southern California needs a lot of help. We've seen that during this covert Christ of some of the highest rates, obviously in the country in Southern California, especially here in South San Diego and along the border, So we're in trouble have the highest rate of unemployment in the state along the borderlands question. Imperial County so We're in trouble. We need to get someone to replace Senator Harris. She gets elected vice president who's fighting for California and every California and not just the ones who can write campaign checks, right? I think that's important to make sure that someone who works for every California In every corner of state and every family and put families and kids first for California

So I just have a question about my 2750 I thought it'd be 30 100 miles on it and still wanna like it's still winter. Like still, uh, brand new Still, I don't have no problems, and I'm gonna handle this cycle. Well, it's 207. Yeah, obviously, it's always a guess because you know, my crystal ball broke some years ago, but Honda's they're just so good. I think the thing I would would be worried about is the combination of that many miles in that age because that car now is Cassie. It's 2007 13 years old, which is a horrible but age and time does. Where on a car wears on a lot of the components of the car. If I were you, I would be prepared to trade it or junkie or whatever, at some point, probably not too long from now. I'd be ready in. All I'm saying is kind of my attention to the new cars that are coming out and in your mind, make mental note of the ones that look attractive to you. So you could check them all out The problem with a car like this, Ronald is Even if any car that's running right now It's got really good value. But if you let something happened with that engine or that transmission goes out, and it's eventually both of eventually going to Then. It's got no value, and you just donated or walk away right now. "It was just repressed because the solution to cover 19 was blank and social distancing so Suddenly trust has become this essential the metric between employer and employee with respect to work getting done on and and, of course, productivity. And if you look at the studies People seem to be working actually longer from home because they don't have a commute. You know what happens when you mean it looks like you're working from the home office there. I would argue that you have the same issue that's going. You're probably working more because it's just there. How do you How do you balance that? And how does the trust factor fit in with your business and how you talk to employees and businesses? Yeah, Absolutely. I think employees that were still working in particularly essential sectors are working longer, more difficult hours. So my husband works in biotech, for example, and one of the big biotechs here in San Diego, and one of their task right now is is the covert testing kit Well, without the one hour commute one way, so that's two hours, he said. Well, meetings air starting at 7 a.m. Every morning when they used to start at 9 30 they're going to late o'clock at night, and it's burning the candle at both ends. But on the flip side, these are people that are also taking over. Job duties of people that have been furloughed and laid off. So you want the job. You want the paycheck, And so that's why people are putting in those extra hours. But you're at home with the same people all day long, and it's creating a lot of issues a lot of tension, and that's where employees employers are starting to see. Maybe productivity's go down, especially when you're not there every day to control what people are doing right. Auntie Alice is important Planet lawyer at the lobster shanty Ellis. In the early 19 thirties and in the story this week on cocoa in the morning, there's 10 Madonna thie US considered adopting a universal 30 hour work week. In Congress killed the bill on along with it your dreams of having margaritas every Friday morning because you have to go to work. But now the buzz about a four hour work week is happening, and there's some definitions say a four hour work week is 10 hour days for four days in a row. In a traditional 40 hour work week, a CZ prescribed by Congress. Others say 32 hours over four days makes better rested and happier employees. But there's this other version, Annie and it's the four day work week. That Microsoft tried last year in Japan, where their productivity soared by 40% But their wages only sword by 2% on day sort of felt like, well, you're only working for days. So you're even Is there any recourse on the horizon with respect to lawsuits in your opinion? About people that are adopting a four hour working week. Yet not giving a bonus pay or even more time off for better productivity is that is that a leg to stand up as an employee or not? Well, the biggest issue for its call before 10 for 10 hour workdays. The biggest issue with a 4 10 is that's not legal in California, unless you ask for permission from the state get it registered, and it's a long process to do that. You have to have everyone sign off on it, and I'm talking about our employees, of course, are different. But here's a more practical perspective. Okay, Let's say we do go to the 4 10 There is always going to be a set of people. It's just our It's our American mentality, which is work hard. Do more that say, You know what? I'm gonna go ahead and work on Friday. I'm gonna go ahead and work on Saturday Sunday. So then all of a sudden you're gonna have that divided people that want to stick to the 4 10 which is what they've been told to do, And then the people that just are the workhorses and want to put in more hours. I personally don't think it's the solution. I think it works in some industries with some people, but it is not by any needs a cookie cutter approach to the work lights out, is there you think there's AH, there's some danger in companies that are trying to let's say the Let's say their attention is good way. Want to give you guys more time off here and there? But then, as a result of that people are working longer, They could get some hot water, especially the thing with hourly employees, not salaried employees. Correct. Right? Yeah. Unfortunately for business owners in California hourly employees are sort of the Achilles heel. I mean, there's a wage in our issue every time he breathes on DH, and that's really tough. I was literally just talking Tio unemployment lawyer in Texas and trying to explain the differences between Texas law. I think you could do almost anything you want to your employees and then out here in California, where wait I just had five violations just by talking. And so it's tough and there's no Good solutions for a really tough stringent, waged our framework to the type of flexibility that I think people want right now, in light of covert, and so we need legislator help. You know, the California legislators got to make some changes, and that is very unlikely to happen Any thank you so much once again. Would you give your website out for us so people can find you? Living A Mighty Life with Dr. Jill Stoddard

"Hey guys welcome to not another anxiety show. I'm your host Kelly Walker and joining me today is guest Dr Jill Starter. High Jeld. Kelly thanks so much for having me. Yes. Thank you for taking time to hop on the show. It's my pleasure. This is my favorite thing to talk about. Happy to be. Here. Now before we get started, do you mind if I share a little bit more about you with our audience? Pleased to? Great. Dr Jill Stoddard is a clinical psychologist director of the Center for stress and Anxiety Management San Diego. She is Speaker Award winning teacher and the author of two Books Be Mighty and the big book of actor metaphors. Jill is also a co host of the popular podcasts psychologists off the clock. She has written articles for Scary Mommy, the good men project and mindful return and as a regular contributor to psychology today. So, Jill I took them. I took a peek at your most recent book the the Be Mighty I'm wondering what what inspired you to write this book specifically with with women in mind right? Because I know sort of like the tagline is be mighty woman's Guide to liberation from stress and worry using mindfulness and accepted. So yeah what inspired you to write this book especially with like the target audience of women in mind he had while if I'm being honest it didn't start out that way so. From idea. I had actually it was the title that came to me I I just I really wanted to write a book that was more about. Empowerment. So initially I wanted it to be more of a global self help book that could be for anybody that's based on the principles of acceptance and commitment therapy and the the publisher really educated me that it has to have more of a target audience that it has to be more of an ditch book and that just wasn't the book I wanted to read it right or sorry that wasn't the book I wanted to write at the time. and then I had this really and I write about this in the book had this really difficult experience with a professional colleague who I really looked up to it was one of these like never meet your heroes true experiences. right like I mean like I was like being publicly bullied and it was very very painful and this was someone who I had formerly been recommending this person's books to my clients because I liked to have clients read a book while they're doing therapy. So they have some you know some work to do in between sessions. And I just felt kind of like ethically compelled to find different a different book to to recommend. And I couldn't find one that I really loved and it just sort of hit me like wait a minute I can write this book like I'm innings specialist. I can write a book that's accepted commitment therapy for anxiety, and then it'll have that niche that the publisher said they wanted. So we double back around they said, yes great idea. Let's do it and then another book came out that was somewhat similar the same time and when I reached out to the publisher to say, Hey, you know, do you think this is a problem? Can we still go forward? I can't take credit it was actually her idea she said, well, you know I have been thinking what if we did this for women? And so it was her idea but Kelly oh my gosh, I mean even retelling the story I have goosebumps. Arms Right now, and that's exactly what happened has their shirt like it's my body barometer I, call it and it was Roman. where I just knew this was the book I was meant to right all along. But when I initially had the idea, you know this is three or four years ago it wasn't the right time, and then since then we've had a huge change in. The political climate and time's up and Metoo I've really had my own awakening. As somebody who has become much more. Focused on women's issues, and so it just you know it was like clear as day that day like, yes this is the book it was always meant to be, and now is the time that it's the right time to write it and it's just you know it's funny because I've learned so much even since I wrote the book that I almost wish I could go back and do it over. A lot of people who say this this book is for women, but really it's anyone men could get a lot out of it too and on the one hand I love that and I I think it's a compliment and I hope that it can reach others and on the other it makes me wish that I had done a better job of really making it more. Specific to women because it is something that's become. So close to my heart over the last, I'd say for years.

Who left still has a lot of pride and still loves to share and see things from the island and you know just a sensible Rudo really within everybody here, and so I moved when I was six I grew up in Philadelphia and then I ended up going to college in Miami which became like a second home for me I. Really Love South Florida I went to law school in Baltimore and then I was like, what was I thinking I should've just stayed in south Florida. So mmediately to law school at right back and I was living there for many years I guess ten years. Between School and coming back. Loved it was the one place that was very just like you said, just felt very like home like the people there. I could relate to them like they had delicious food that I liked eating every radio station and play to get the on. Just, a really natural fit and loved it and I still do and I still consider south Florida to be a second home but it's also very nice for me to have this opportunity to come back nappy areas Puerto Rico rather than just like from family visits and family trips and things like that. But on my own and really get an appreciation for the island how was it for you to grow up in Philadelphia interesting? I guess it's changed a lot over the last few years that I haven't been there. Right a lot of gentrification and things like that. I felt like it was a little rough when I was there like I rent to a really prestigious school. It's like the second oldest high school in the country I was a public school. Yeah and so we didn't refer to ourselves by the graduating year I class of two, thousand and five. I was the two hundred sixty. Four th graduating class, and so it was wonderful and there's a sense of community with that but you were definitely seen and targeted as the smart kids and so we were in a little bit of a rough neighborhood. So there were definitely like there was a point we had to have police escorts to take us to the bus and it was like a four hour bus ride to and from where I live to the school. So it was intense but I feel. Like it taught me a lot of street smarts I can feel confident now in big cities and settings where I'm by myself and feel like I'm able to navigate a foreign setting. So maybe I didn't really see it then but I felt like Philadelphia was really good training for being able to travel and see the world and feel confident that I have the ability to stay safe in these settings.

Changing Planes and Plans with Jen Ruiz

"Jenin I talk about her life in Puerto Rico growing up in Philadelphia what it was like to go to law school. Then what a became not practicing law as she started solo traveling and we of course talked about what inspired her to travel, which was being thirty and not being married and having children and wanting that resonated with me as when she talked about letting things be when letting things happen and unfold as they are supposed to when you're a planner and I, think this is one of the things when we get into this topic in the interview that is going to resonate with you as we live through pandemic Jen. Also, shares with us about self publishing becoming a travel blogger and I talk about Australia at the trip that I was going to take to Australia that ended up obviously not taking because that was going to happen between March and April and and that was right when all the things went down. So of course, I didn't make to Ustralia but I did make it to speak at that conference. So I can still call myself an international speaker because I got to speak honest age in Australia while I was in San Diego huckle is that but a winner I'll leave that for another story I will let you enjoy conversation with Jen druce. Jan. welcome together on Prem. How are you? I'm good. How are you is So you are currently in Puerto Rico I. Am okay I'm in Sunny San Diego we are I guess coasts. So you're I'm the Atlantic. Ocean Yes but we both are blessed with beautiful weather I know I. Love Puerto Rican put her because one of my favorite places in the world I love Puerto Rico when I went outside Omega I was from the Caribbean in a past life. I felt home. I'm so happy to hear that I'm so happy to hear that I want more people to come and if they have been before to revisit and if they. Haven't come for the first time because Puerto Rico really is an amazing place and gets a little bit of a bad rep with everything that's happened in the last few years but it just is so resilient and it's such a beautiful island with a lot of natural attractions and you know metropolitan bustling area and a lot of history and culture, and it's just amazing. So I'm so happy to hear that you enjoy it as well for sure in the food I like food. I've had to work really hard to not gain weight while I've been here. Yeah. Go every day. You know it's good for the soul but not necessarily for the hearts up out of moderation I. Suggest let's explore your stories to tell us what's your background with your heritage. AstraZeneca Rivals Moderna in Race to Successful SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine with ChAdOx1 nCov-19!

"So I'm glad to be back and I have a pretty exciting show for everyone today the main. Main Serb we're going to talk about is the latest publication by AstraZeneca in the Journal. The. Lancet of their source to vaccine, and we're going to take a look at the data, look safety and contrast that to what I talked about with regards to earn his maxine last week. So definitely check out that show first and then watch this if you're interested by. That's going to be the main story, and then we're also gonNA touch on a few other biotech companies that invested in that updated their earnings, the last little wild for Q. Two. So that's going to do for the show. And really that's not much going on in the biotech space unfortunately lately, we seem quite a sell off in the X., p. I and I think that's largely due to the executive orders announced by the trump administration when I looked at them though it didn't seem to affect the company's I'm invested in which are mostly small and mid cap. Biotech. These executive orders had more of an impact on drugs that actually price right now in the market and the one in particular, that's concerning for large-cap Pharma is the one that forces companies to maintain pricing through the US and ex us. A lot of companies are able to charge a premium in the US compared to ex us, and now there's going to have to be normalized in what that means is that often these left lower their price for Americans which they didn't need to do before this so. That's kind of what's going on in biotech space excitement in the market otherwise has to do more with the tech companies that just destroyed their earnings on Friday. So we saw a huge increases in facebook, apple Amazon Google. So the sciences to be flowing more towards those companies than the XP. Even though the FBI did recently hit all-time highs. Personally I managed to get on a road trip in the last week or so and I checked out SEDONA Arizona for those who've not been there. It's definitely worth checking out if you live in the US, it's it's pretty gorgeous place except for the heat, the heat is pretty insane and somebody lives in San Diego, it's shocking to see the numbers go up to one hundred and fourteen degrees, Fahrenheit, but it was nice to get away for a bit and one other piece of business I. GotTa Get through is to give a shoutout to a friend of mine named Dave Coggin. And the reason for this that we had a friendly bet over a ping pong tournament yesterday that I would give him a shout-out if I lost all the games against him and he ended up beating me in every one of them. So with that, let's actually get into the meat of the show. And again, thanks everybody. All support all the emails in tweets in the comments on my channel are very, very much appreciated. It does go far with in terms of spreading the word and getting the podcast out there. So thank you for that. Now, the first company I WANNA talk about is trillium therapeutics, and they're sitting around fifty, five, hundred and fifty, million dollar market CAP, and we're talking about them today because they had a press release announcing a delay in data and people were expecting a clinical update on their six to one and sixty two product in the middle of twenty twenty, and that's around this time now, and instead what we're hearing is that they're going to. To this update at the American Society for Hematology Meeting in December of twenty twenty. So it's about a six month delay, not the end of the world, but there was really no relevant update provided in this press release. They mentioned that can relax refractory C. T. cell patients have been enrolled in the first four cohorts, and they were treated with the sixty. One monotherapy at does doses up to one point, four milligrams per kilogram. They also mentioned that they completed dose limiting top evaluation of cohort four, which is that one point, four milligrams per kilogram does and they're now moving onto the two point zero milligram per kilogram dose. So not really much to report the stock sold off from the sevens to around the fives and then was bought back into the sixes. So I think my average position is around the fives end. I decided not take an additional position into it because I am pretty heavy in the stock. And yet, it's unfortunate delay, but I don't think the fundamentals of the company at all are in jeopardy and some other things to know if you WANNA take a position in sort of CD, forty, seven molecule, which is what Chile him is commercializing They did announce a solid tumor study, which is going to be starting pretty soon, and we're GONNA see data in that in twenty twenty one. So if they see good data in solid tumors I think the stock could Garner maybe a five x valuation from where it is. Now, let's kind where I see trillium eventually, and I plan on holding well into twenty. Twenty one.

"Once you seven is also locally owned. The food is incredible he they also serve local wines and beers there. They have a really nice bar area so when my husband go in there on usually alternate date night week we love to sit at the bar. The bartenders are all super friendly. It's just a great place to go. You feel comfortable everyone we go. It just feels like your homage just really comfortable when people are so friendly. Faubourg is actually known as the friendly village. And it's true. You know everyone locally it you go from the restaurant to even our little local grocery store major market you go in there and the people that are helping to bring us up you know ask over go hiking today. It's just that kind of place where you just feel at home. No matter where you go is really cool are there. wineries breeze spars ars any any other places to talk about. Yeah so we have our has quite a few wineries and a couple tap. Room's one of my favorite wineries. His which is also an AIRBNB is a state echo belly. And it's up on a mountain above Pala Mesa resort and it's a small little winery it but it's just really cool because their view is just gorgeous. You can sit on the patio. have some wine taken the view and if you WanNa see the whole week in there you can actually rent out. The House has a swimming pool in summertime. It's it's just a really nice little space. We have a local wine club. It's called ladies Wine Club Faubourg in the winery hosted us for a day and we had so much fun. I did not sleep. I wanted to just move in there. We also have a tap room. Mm That is prohibition Berry so the actual brewery is in Vista but they did open at taproom in Fabric Series To to get prohibition and Beers there and that is right on main street. So it's really fun. If you're hanging out in your shopping and you wanted to stop it and have a beer. We also have a local restaurant called Cuban brew and they they have an awesome little bar. They do tap takeovers every other Friday and they they hope they have a ton of local beers and wines available as well. It's just a cool. Who'll little place it's it's in the original firehouse? So there's a lot of Fire historical memorabilia in there and it's just a fun little does seems to go detonates. Your food to they do they do serve food. So it's all barbecued some. It's barbecue in beer recently. And they are going to local lines. It's okay There were some other wineries that you had told me about before. Yes two thirds the vineyard one to four which is really awesome at Christmas mistimed. They open up for. I WANNA see about a month and a half or so. They still Christmas trees. And then you can also go. They do bonfires every night. We'll have live music. Dick you can have glasses of wine will have food trucks. So it's really kind of an event to get your Christmas tree and the place is just like so adorable. They saw you saying vineyard. One twenty four is only open for those six weeks or whatever so generally asked only open for six weeks. I did notice that they do other events as well. I just started falling among these book to find out when they when they're going to open the winery but when it is open. It's so much fun to go but Christmas time is really fun. My husband and I always go at least a couple times a year. We get bottled pulled up. Hang out by the The bonfire with our friends. We have Myrtle creek. We have the toasted oak. We Have Beach House and then we have FARC winery in which is actually probably the largest winery in fallback and they are in distribution. So you can actually buy their widens locally at places like Albertson's and then we also have constitutionists awesomeness which is owned by a lovely couple making Susan and they open up their home for their winery. You join the wine club you can go up there. It's actually up above up fallbrook in kind of like the Rocky Mountain area. So it's really rural gorgeous. Home that overlooks this big canyon with their vineyards and their wine China's great to about a bar or any other bars that you still there if you're into dive bars. We have the best device are it's called the red eye and it. It is religious up to its name. I think every time I've been there we have stayed in closes in with. Oh Gosh has has got of your own to you. But it's just you're straight up. They don't take credit cards. You ought to have cash law of locals hang out there. There's a lot of retired tired marines and military the hang out there. They have really good bands on the weekend denouncing. Dj Kariuki all the things that dive barbed should have. Oh Okay Salon hiking. I imagined you know this is pretty rural. It's definitely not by the ocean. I'm you know how long it takes you to the ocean about a half hour but our okay. I think you're an avid hiker imagined with a hiking nagazine that you might take a little bit So what do you think about the hiking places to go so in my husband and I moved from Ocean side we were. We were hikers in surfers. And we live by the beach so that we can start off and it was always my dream to move to Falkirk since there's little kid 'cause I just love Rothfield but what really pushed over the edge to move. There was the Santa Margarita River trail. which is if you do the whole trail? You've been actually win eleven mile loop and it runs along the Santa Margarita River which is a role river it flows year round. It is obsolete beautiful all your hiking through three hundred year old oak canopies. There are deer down. There are beavers in the river. There are a bunch of endangered fish. There are a blue herons. There are tons of Hawks in all kinds of birds. There's a severe SUV. You're obviously but I'm getting out of your into wildlife. There's a ton of a ton of wildlife down others hotel in bobcats mountain lions. It's just stunning. So so we would drive from oceanside once once once a week ish and we would hike the river and so my husband being a really big server said if I could find a house that we can walk to you that we could buy three walk to the trails that he would consider it so I did and we bought it and we moved to fallbrook. It's been about ten years now dot trail At least once a week it's dog friendliest. You can bring your dogs in the summertime. It's really nice because he bought the water in the trees as a little bit cooler. We also have Mountain which is it's a very. It's a pretty short hike. The whole loop is only about five miles but you're going up about twelve hundred feet in violent hap- since really steep so it's a great hike for training so if you WANNA get in shape that's a really good one to do. Once a week. We have a couple preserves ars that are managed by fabric land conservancy and there are a little bit shorter. Hikes are also equally beautiful with lots of oak trees and Sycamore Trees. And they're those preserved our great for kids so you can do short little milder and get out into nature and still experience at all. All the trails are dog friendly. uh-huh in fallbrook on a leash. They're just all stunning. They're all beautiful. Where would you start if I wanted to come out and go on that trail by the river where I start? How do I get there so to get to the childhood for the Santa Margarita River you would take deludes road which is right off of mission road and you're going to head north and there's GonNa be a wine you're gonNA stay to the right and that just takes you right to the dry so it's probably only never actually gauged it? How how far town? But it's it's it's not that far I would say maybe two miles out of town to get to the the chill had and are there signs and directions could easy to find. It's easy to find. There's nobody there no signs but if you just google it it's easy you can or you could probably they just put it right into your navigation. It'll take you there. It's a real popular trail There's so many wonderful things I mean. It sounds like just a ton of history. I mean Avocados data. Of course. That's fun in those festivals and some little quaint shops. Are there little antique shops. Or something down to. Yeah Faubourg downtown. There's quite a few the anti shops that have really fun. Unique a things for sale in them a lot of the residents a lot of people that moved to fall volver artists because artists. One that that rule fueling the quietness and they end up opening shops downtown to be able to eh display their superfund lines so there there's there's all kinds of antique shops in the community is centered around artists to you like why earlier we have the our wine bite. That's the walk. We have lots of little art studios downtown onto you where you can see. Local People's paintings and different kinds of exhibitions in that kind of thing. So I can't wait to explore Default work a few times ever. It's been a long time so this is really exciting. So yeah and the Chamber of Commerce has really good out helping visitors visitor down there too so you can only stop in the chamber. It's Ri- on Main Street She's amazing she. She knows everything there is to know about fabric and she loves it. Probably more than I do Possible yeah she's great so before we end this podcast. I need to point out that there's been one big change group town. Coffee Coffee has new ownership and now it's called coffee. corks and cuisine. Of course this only happened a few days after we recorded this episode assode but it does remind me to tell you about the show notes that are posted on things to do in San Diego Dot. US I take the time to link every place that we talk about to the web page or to some information so that you can easily find the hours and location etc and they actually do this for myself as well because a lot of times. I'm so inspired by these guests that I'm going to these locations and I sometimes forget all the places that were mentioned so I look up the show notes and try and figure out where I want to go based on the show notes. If you have a particular part of town or part of the city in San Diego County that you want to know more about feel free to drop me a line or if you've enjoyed the podcast look to know about that..

"Welcome to things to do in San Diego. I'm your host Suri Manelli and today I'm really excited about fallbrook and our guest is Jamie purring. Tin The owner of hide off magazine and hike it off clothing. She's an avid hiker and she told us about some of the most amazing places to hike the Santa Margarita River which is incredibly beautiful and incredibly diverse verse with a three hundred year old canopy so whereas fallbrook in relation to San Diego. It's the north most city in San Diego. cownie money on the fifteen before you hit temecula and it's on the backside of oceanside so it's not exactly coastal but it's not east county either and and what's really fascinating about fallbrook is it's got several wineries. It's really small friendly town. A lot of artists is there. So you're gonNA find a lot of those little tiny shops galleries teacups antics. Things like that There's a little bit of history there. There used to be a train. There's no longer train but they're used to train. The goes went through there in the eighteen hundreds and so there's a lot of history about that and there's also a gem and the mineral museum which is really fascinating. There's some other unique things but we'll wait to let Jamie tell us about that in the interview one more thing to know about the show. Is that neither my guest nor I get compensated in any way for any of the places that we talk about on the podcast. And that's so important to me because I want it to remain authentic as if you were talking to a friend. Who's in that town and they're telling you all the really cool places to go? The the way I do get compensated is if you go to things to do in San Diego Dot. US You can find a link for Patriot on. And I always appreciate it when people send me need those Patriot donations that helps inspire me to keep going with the show and I might on occasion also put some affiliate links in the show notes. But just know anytime I do that. Not only are they clearly labeled but I'm only putting in affiliate links that I think are appropriate and that would help you like if it was for booking hotels or concert tickets or or whatnot anyway. My purpose for the show is for you to have the best day ever in in San Diego and so here we go with Jamie talking about fallbrook. What's tall famous for farmers for Avocado cottage? So we're actually known as the avocado capital of the world. I don't know how true that is but I love to think that it is true So we have lots of farms to very rural community. Lots of Avocados. And we're getting a lot of grape growing as well for wine grapes so it's a pretty rural part of the county I and it's really beautiful. and the weather's just awesome involve break. There's a few festivals what what are the festivals that they're known for them while our biggest festival that were known for Awards Avocado Festival and that takes place every year. In April we have about one hundred twenty thousand people that come out for the day and it's it's just a lot of fun. There's a log avocado stuff so there's guacamole contest. There's dressing avocado contest. There's you can buy all kinds of avocado type hype things whether they're edible. Avocado Shakes Fried Avocados or things made out of avocado itself. So Avocado would bulls all that. So it's really just away from town to get together and invite hundred twenty thousand of our closest friends and celebrate avocado everything that we can use them for and and then there's another. I think you mentioned that there was also a second kind of festival there. Third with what other festivals are there similar to our local festivals. We have a what is called wine in a bite and that is where local businesses in the downtown area pair up with restaurants and wineries and it's a walking type festival. Will you walk from business to business where you'll get a little piece of food and it's paired with wine from a local winery. The chamnber handles that also just launched a new one that is populism bruce so seem similar concept instead of wine in food it's beer and in different various forms of potatoes. So let's talk a little little bit more to give our listeners an idea of whether or not they want to come to fallbrook to stay or just make it a day trip. So can you tell people about outlined the transportation safety and then we'll go into where they would stay since fall workers rule those not the a lot of public transportation and the downtown area is very walkable so you can walk in shop. All the shops down there and get to quite a few of the restaurants but as far as accommodations. I always recommend when I have friends visiting. If they're not staying with me to look at AIRBNB so there's a ton of really cute little airbnb that are available. While some are on avocado farms. Some are on ranches. So you're really looking for a place to get away. That's rule and kind of quiet and slow definitely definitely check out Work if they wanted to go downtown. How far would it take Helen's it take you to get to downtown from Fallbrook Dunton Gun Ted Kennedy. It's about well with a traffic so without traffic. It's about forty five minutes with traffic Republican. We got an hour and a half. Yeah it's way up there. I mean it's Kinda surprising that it still San Diego County yet and we don't have traffic in Faubourg so you can escape the traffic and come forward. There's traffic it might be because there's like a flock of wild peacocks. Crossing the road or something. They have to wait for but That's about it. And then what else is fall were close to. I know it's close to Basel. which is another rural town? Yeah so farmers really close the bonds will it's close to the backside of oceanside and it's also close to Temecula so fabric is a good place to come and stay at your planning on Wayne Teaching as well as you can kind of experience both both the rural aspect of fallbrook and then wine tasting getting into Macula. Let's start with the museums. There's the gem and Mineral Society that event to with the kids. Yeah the Gem Mineral Society is really fun. If you're into you know crystals or any kind of rocks it's really great for kids So you can go in there and learn a lot about that sort of thing but they also have a glow on the dark room so there's minerals that glow in the dark so it's really fun to kind of go check that out and see them under black light in an experience that definitely a good kids place my kids just they think they spent like an hour in their shopping at things. Yeah Great Place and the General Society also hosts their own little festivals. A couple times a year as well which you can get that information on our website and it's waving kinda go buy buy stuff from that and people come with all their different rocks walks in minerals and gems is your second museum there or is there something else that was interesting. Wasn't there something. We have the historical society the former Kostoric society is basically geared geared toward the history of Albert put fabric was a big train depot. Back in the day so so it was built that attribute depots bill eighteen eighty two Basically was a stop on the way from San Diego. That train shot continued tenure up the Santa Margarita River which is river valley that we have here in fallbrook and out into Temecula the tracks themselves have been washed out a couple of times and and repaired and so because of that because of the train coming through here is really a big reason of why Farkas even here it has to do with a lot the history. The train was finally closed in nineteen eighty one and the train depot itself was torn down. That's where our sheriff station is now but the Warehouse House next to the Sheriff's Station is art center. And that is one of the original buildings. Supposedly the historical society talks all about that. There's historical artifacts in Nair with train. Stop and tons of photos is just a really neat place to go. If you're a trained buff the historical society also has installed An old caboose right in on Main Street in downtown and so it's really cool with your kids will not I love it. I've taken my picture in front of a million sometimes but It's just a fun little quirky thing just like how Faubourg is you know funding quirky but eventually that is going to be the future railroad wrote Heritage Park. So that's part of it in the works so I want to point out the irony. So it's a real root tumble. You cannot get there by train not anymore. Ah Make sure that that I can totally see somebody. Misunderstanding us in like trying to figure out how to get the train. Yeah I know so. The train was shut down in one thousand nine hundred eighty in. What was the last train to come through fall break okay? Although there is a legend that you can still hear the train's Horn in town And have you heard it. I have not okay enough to downtown to Europe. There's a lot of locals that's where that that they can still hear it. That's interesting Hebrew coffee places because it seems like some of these rural towns have like a more of those mom and POPs so we have two that are privately owned. They're both equally adorable in equally. Have great copy Brick town is right on main street. And it's just great to go. There's Cubal charity consider up front. It's really cozy inside and it's actually connected to a wine bar now so it's in the morning and get your copy in the evening Lots lots of local wine and then we also have former coffee company which is just off main street and it's really cute little cottage and it just feels when you walk. It just feels like a cute little coffee place in there will really cozy okay. Let's talk about restaurants. There's not too many but I know that you've got if you favorites. She said yard so I have two of my favorites and their pull equally awesome. So I'm not going to see which one is my favorite but once you stop in west West and small town They're both family owned and the food is incredible. Small town of specially focuses a lot on local goal food. I know that's been popular for a long time. But they really live by so they have these mushroom tacos that are unseen and I went in a couple weeks. They didn't have them only because they couldn't get the mushrooms locally so they didn't just go buy them from somewhere else in the tacos It forced me to try something else which was great because everything. There's just amazingly good and the owners of the type that you walk in. And they give you cog in there. Thank you for coming back. So it's it's just an awesome locally to go eat beat my husband. I usually go there on Friday night. Date night they do serve local wines and local beers and they do some events as well so I know they're doing a really Nice Valentine's Day dinner that's a four five course. Wine paired dinner dot com stuff and then.

"Was just next next level level for me it was just a the preciseness and didn't slow him down. It didn't do anything. That's a guy who has done that. A half a dozen a dozen times probably I. I don't know if you probably remember this. Steve Folks out there listening when Stephen Adams was I hitting the media guy the nationals had this unbelievably dumb role. Or if you're an alternate like if you reflect forty second fastest qualifying or something like that. You could not practice but you might end up in the Moto right. Remember the scene. No I don't think they would not let you practice so you went to Jay Mitchell rates are used to work for the ADA. And you're like Jay. Why are you not letting us on the Modem ed he's like because they'll try to purposely take someone out an injury they get it yes yes yes and you're like J.? They're not S. sixteen tactical fighters. They cannot aim right. The the there's one man who can there's one cat. Apparently because I was impressed by that but I I didn't feel like it was one of your first experience. Like what is the deal with this guy like you really. He doesn't hold back like he really feels his way. He's coming after us. Aw It was. It was ridiculous but Barsha apparently can't jt you have you. Did you know what Martin was talking about in a few weeks ago he said Marty said it started. Have you seen any beef between Mardian Marsha. Novica probably just sit him. He does that. Have you watched ratio giving him in earful giving Barsha. I was watching with binoculars and I watched the whole thing I was I was actually thought. They sat there for two minutes and nobody said they didn't say a word and I'm like Oh maybe this is all good and then they got into and we were sitting right by Gabrielle. Brielle who owns Alpine stars and I was like this is going to be out by storing up crime right here. Something is going to be terrible. Both watching it very closely was was he. Yeah there's a good race I if you pay your money for tickets to go to San Diego those two main events and all of that. You got your money's worth man. Good night racing so I don't. I don't say that too often. Like sometimes we were a little bit jaded right but it was. It was good. It was cool to watch all right championship. PREDICTION JUMPING BACK JT. Do I have to here from Dylan regardless of what I say. I don't even want to say I think he will either way but I'll go to AMAC. Yeah that was a big statement. We age also granderson last year from last year. Keep that yeah. Well they hate talk about the Barsha and and he liked. Let's watch Anderson and Brighton. This weekend Dan. This is not exactly strikes me as a guy to let things go. So we're going to threaten. Great Britain will be fried at some point. This this'll be another thing to keep an eye on hundred percent. Well do costly because I mean interesting. What fourteenth like that really really wrecks him in the points like when we went down again to he went down again to? I don't know where he was but he crashed again. I'm sure he's not gonNA blame himself. No well no there's GonNa be like you know what to do about these trashing the same corner where he hit Brayden originally Karl. Thank you rental. Thank you Max. Thanks fire racing as well alias. CD JT thanks. Boys I will see you in Tampa Zappa. He's back he's back in person.

"And then Adam sent it because I'm sure the instinct is if I kill L. These whoops. There was no way he's going to pull away from me while jumping and low behold he pulled away from him all jumping. I cannot turn into not just safer safer easier but straight up at times significantly faster. It's unbelievable how much it's changed. I think it might just be web though. Aw It's still abandoned is still abandoned. The The Times where it's going to be the optimal choice are few and far orbiting. I mean there there are times this weekend was one but if you watch like baggage behind him he wasn't. He wasn't killing baggage in those loops. Doc was blessing on the whole time but he was definitely getting either. If you watch you know eight to the way. He made up time he he wasn't really making up time on Tomac when Tomac was blitzing the whoops there so I don't think it's still don't think it's the optimal way but I will say that if web can he if he can find a way to be good in the whoops when you have to blitz like he was does he was better in time qualifying he was better than grace when you have to blitz and then he can maintain his his technique in his ability to jump. When it's time it's it's GonNa be really challenging for these guys? Because I still believe in I live through this I watched. I watched a lot of guys that they're they're only technique is the blitz. They don't practice jumping the hate jumping. Whoops they don't believe in it? I kind of that way when when you need the jump when the primary line is to jump they really struggled and that was Kinda wear. Ac was you could tell that he's never really been forced to jump before because he doesn't he didn't have the same prowess in confidence and the immediate ability to switch to the jump line and find the best way through the way that that Web did Marvin out there. Marvin Marvin been doing the exact same thing So I I think that is something that if we figured out. If the testing did this week helped him he can master both of them. It's going to be really tough on the east coast for these guys. It was awesome. It was good rice full props to both of those guys man you know like. AC's gotTa get around lepers. He's got to lead a bunch of laps. Web is bearing down on them pulls it out a little bit web gets by makes a couple of runs. Adam Adam shuts the door gets more more time on them at some point. Adam is getting caught. Coops do in the woods and I'm cheering for atom from polling on us. Because 'cause I WANNA get that first one and I'm look up and six minutes ago. He's done he's he's he can't do this for six coupes. Wine is good and and sure enough it was. I think it was three laps to go. Was it three four laps. Yeah three or four laps laughed when Kook finally got him but an atom went to jumping as we said he was doing was good. Then did you. Did you notice that star blitzing again for for a lap or two. I'm just trying to find to answer with. He's just like screw it. I'm going back to blitzing it. Was it was phenomenal. It was great racing cool to watch their race craft. Half both guys don't you. Don't you feel like that. Webb's experience in the four fifty class in his championship. Run last year exciting sector totally right not not panicking. Not Worried. Very methodical like terminator just kept coming like nothing was going Cellino like your Yep. I agree we do. Yeah I I do and I think for for a rookie. I think Adam you knew that was gonNA throw all kinds of smarts in race craft at this Like I said ten minutes eight on Mike. He hasn't even gotten even this. This battle hasn't even begun yet. I do feel for all the tricks that we've has and he might have more tricks than anyone to win races in this matter for a rookie. I feel like Adam did pretty well like it. kind of waiting for him to get Fox outsmarted out strategize. He eating win the race. But I don't feel like he blew it like. He tried a lot of things. He tried to counter a lot of his counters are pretty smart I I was genuinely impressed. How well he held up is like you said six minutes to go on? Mike do Can't keep it. Yeah you're not going to keep his dude behind you Ryan holiday. Who's the team green manager by the way that's talking today another thing? We Marvel that was in the fifties. I remember Faranda took two or three shots at Fort and when it wouldn't work out he would lose underground web is so good at it will attack you as soon as he knows does. It doesn't work. He aborts mission and he doesn't really lose a ton of ground. It's not like thank God. I blocked him in this one now. I got three laps of release. He can stay. Stay on you while he's attacking you and trying different things. It's like God you gotta be so are to hold off and I feel like a pretty good job. Yeah he's the first I got the lapper is he's the first guy. Yeah it's much easier to be coops. Coops position is much easier to sit back there and analyze atoms lines and striping. You can't you know I think equip has proven over the years going back to even as two fifty days obviously last year he he's proven he's a master. Strategist wait. Wait wait in these races. I mean he absolutely owned can Roxanne last year laid the races. Just he's already done it this year. We'll get oakland right anytime it comes down to the last lap. The last corner web is. I don't WanNa say undefeated because I don't have any united can't prove that but find a situation where somebody's outsmarted outduelled Cooper Web. You know in those critical moments late in the race. He just seems to have a strategic edge of where people go go what they're gonNa do and when the time is can you imagine. Jt Y Gan who's been on the payroll all these years cheering watching that race last night watching that race. He's not knowing what to do. So yes. Being Adams publicist You're very difficult when he's good he's being what he's being beaten like Adams said in the press conference that had that one moment of cat and mouse with stopping it before the finish line and he said Cooper is actually yelling. Let's let's go and then Cooper explained to him because Cooper also keeping baggage check marking him the whole time. So he's churning from blitzing to jumping figuring out Adam figuring out how to make the pass and keeping an eye on baggage and being like okay. No if you'RE GONNA START CAT-AND-MOUSE I'm GONNA. I'M GONNA have to stop now his bag. It's like unbelievable that he could process. Yeah and bag and blue bag it. After the race was upset at some lap really felt like he was saving it for a bit of Iran. Alex Scott Him you know got in his way. This treaty Tufts They're buddies like the buddies with Benny to let night. He definitely got it got X.. Way there at the end. I pictured pictured leauge though with his his headlines The storyline that press conference transfer. AC being up assist yeah and then when webcast and he ripped up the ripped up this April and that's what I pictured which doing at home the host care. The whole script has gone. Yeah Yeah with all. We had cooper impeached at ended up. You gotta quit bag. It was good bag. Got The whole shot came. Came in there kind of got roughed around the corner to and as work put out for him but he was good the first set of whoops blake speed. The first set which we're easier and lots of guys were crushing it. I thought was amazing. Blake was all that work. Jt All the everything else all the frustration nations the team got on the podium and the fly racing limited edition Cammo as well on the podium. Yeah we're happy but I also think he blake felt like he left a little bit on the table there to You Know Blake is trying to wear those guys down. Make run right at the end. You know it's always been his. Mo that's Suadi was you know.

"I thought he'd be a lot better. But okay. uh-huh Jason Anderson has an all star. Paul I see who you've picked here. Okay you're really going to. Yeah San Diego. He loves San Diego. He's going to have new special gear special bike. I don't care about his ribs. He loves San Diego. He's an eleven take. I'm taking him. I don't care what Dan says with for this weekend. How Dan Are you picking I. I'm trying to get a text back to see if he's racing once I get that text back. He's racing or not then then he might depend my team so I if he's racing then yes I think he's on my team one hundred percent For All the reasons Paul said he'd love San Diego the reason he you skipped Oakland was because he wanted he wasn't ready obviously and he wanted to San Diego so I think he does race and I think he is on my team. You know your thoughts on this. Jt who was it. Sorry I missed it I looked at him just now when I was picking my team it Sandiego which is why I think Paul picked him but I I don't know man it's hard to race when you're not feeling ingrate and your ribs hurt. He probably if you want my crystal ball. I think he probably gets like nineteenth. which isn't terrible points wise But I yeah I really try to stay away from guys who are injured. I guess just so easy to be like fuck this. I can't breathe. I'm pulling off all right. Who Do you like my team right? Now as we sit is Blake Baggett Kind of well. He should've the done really well last weekend and didn't so we have an opportunity here. I have any boss. Hopefully he Is Okay and doesn't get dizzy or have any post concussion symptoms. I don't think he will But he's eleven so there's a lot of points to be. Had there have Kenny rocks in because I think he's pretty much going to be a podium Liam throughout the rest of the way. I don't think to really stretch for him. And then I have kids at nine and I. I'm not a hundred percent on his being there yet. I'm he's he could certainly be traded out so could Benny But that that's my team for now and and if I go racing with the team I'm okay with it but we'll see our practice. Convoy came out and said Kenny's foot is fine but that worries as me a little bit if he writes practice and he's good. I have no worries at all. Paul who do you like. I like Jason. Anderson is my all star to get he's four. He has to get top five. Hasn't been worse than tooth all season. I like Blake Baggett back the back sections for bad weekends in a row. He's gotTa turn around here sometime I think he's GonNa look good in the beginning from the get go and I'm hoping he'll put in a good ride. I mean this is in could end end up on the podium. So I'll put him on my team and Yeah Chad Reed San Diego. He took off Oakland so he could be at San Diego. Dan said I like him. At Eleven I mean and he's in the main event for sure and So yeah he's on my team. I think Cunningham is somebody to look at for sure but but Right now out go. Benny bosses is my fourth guy. Just based on what you guys said and him being an eleven Benny should be in the main event And should be able to one person to get double so That's my team name. I can't take Osbourne. I think he's someone for sure. Look at I think Alex Rae is worth looking at her ten I already Marty for you. Don't think Marty's He's worth looking at. I have developed and bowers highlighted on my list here but I'll wait and see how Mardi looks in practice if he's if he does what he did Anaheim to and when he's crazy fast and again back back luke sections that could be a great track for Mardi. But I'll wait the on Mardi for now is the CODA tetter seeping on the Angeles every week. He's coming back at some point. Okay I thought I don't remember seeing him as the coach header back. Yeah all right so how. How's is your cade Clayson Dude? Is he good now. Or One of these. No No. We're done okay. We're not going to be a deep sleeper cell. No no no. He's got a bad thumb east riding and trying to work through that. I think you could still look at car right. I think he can. He's still makes them in event. What's up of Portelli? Is He hurt. There's there's been there because awesome. Be there if it's if he was just skipping it for travel purposes. Yeah but I think if you had to pick between those two I think you go cartwright Jerry anybody. They're not racing jerry was. I thought they were getting ready for Tampa. Okay maybe maybe maybe freeze at a four is not a terrible pick either. I Agree Dan. I just don't like all the whoops. Yeah I think the star is favors. The start here a lot. It looks like and read scare the hell out of me. Yeah Yeah I think you remember when you pick Kogo last weekend. But just say you'd sort of feeling Koga. We'll have to see how you feel on on Saturday. Then what do you plan on eating. I don't know how go go see what Chad's got over there and then I'll do some recon Steve why don't as you come for our For our for fantasy meeting this week the flight show that yeah. I think we do the same time I keep you keep bringing this up. We're busy at that time. Your priorities out. That's what we're doing all right. I'll be there okay. I didn't know there was a secret fantasy meeting though that sucks I wanna go there. We have fans that circle around and everything. It's pretty for real. Yeah so do we have one hundred BC. We're not trying to compare it to your thing calm down you're trying to steal my guy it's still decent. JT At nine on my team okay. are yeah what was he last. Eleven right he was eleven eleven. Yeah okay so Cunningham. Went Down Lawn. Chairs went down to beat them. So I get it The bare seven Tabare looks tired out there a lot. I think I'd rather pick Marta six. I I agree Deep sleeper anybody. Got Yeah I think it's still cartwright and I don't know how deep sleeper that is but he's a thirteen eighteen guaranteeing points if he makes it. So I didn't cartwright what about Clermont. He was in position until bumped him out on the last lap. He was GonNa make the main event. There's an clermont whether yellow. Koa Cali. Yeah I I don't know about that bike. I'm out there as a sleeper he. It's going to get tougher for what for him with riders coming back to the series. But he's got to get in one of these weeks. I don't know I mean chat and Blosser back this week. I just pressed it with that. But it's going to happen eventually. Agree all right one and lead pipe. Lock for four fifties. I'll I'll go. I'll go benny boss. I spend I mean I just I don't want to steal Dang but yeah many boss. Dan Martine Davalos breath. Jt Osborne Paul. That's it I think that's the Pitta me of the word all the good and bad connotations that come along with mothering. It's part of my job. Bob Is part of my identity as a chef. It's been the easiest tool that I can find. I mean who wants to disappoint their MOMS. No one not not one person on see hear their mom says man. I'm disappointed if you get your mom gets angry. You know she can get over it when she's disappointed that carries more weight and I learned as As a chef and as a mother I shifted being angry at things with like taking it I thought I would have taught them better as my cooks too. Because because that's something that I do with my children and my daughter and my son have very different personalities I parent them completely different. And that's how I feel. I am in the kitchen. Every cook has a different personality difference at of rules and guidelines and what drives them so I am a mother at home and I'm a mother in the kitchen crystal crystal a baker. I've always wanted to be one. I've always been one even when I'm dealing with everything. Besides baking the only reason I opened a bakery. It's because I love to bake and the only thing that keeps me grounded even when you were little wanted to be a baker. Yeah I've been telling people. I wanted to open a bakery the beach since I was ten years old appearance. Think it's hilarious. I actually went through with it. That's amazing my what's your one word. I'd say same catalyst. I start a lot of things and I like sparking ideas and projects and working with people to get things going that's great catalyst. I love that. What food related topic is on your mind these days since this is the food for thought tour the irony? That Vegetarians and vegans. Don't WanNa pay for a vegetarian or vision. Meal made with organic vegetables at a restaurant. That's my biggest complaint where a vegetarian Vegan will complain about a twenty four dollar on trae. I'm like we literally are walking outside pointed out of the dirt for you but you'll pay three dollars at whole foods for that same exact vegetable one. I just find it ironic a little bit so that that's a lot on my mind right now of like. How do you get people to value it? How do you? How do you do it eloquently without going you you should pay for you know without getting angry about it and just being like how do I make this more graceful conversation? How do you have some thoughts on how to do that? I have my cooks cooks. We have this thing called a chef swim so we let the servers kind of give it a if you sell it right and you can make anything sound. Romantic people wool kind of like. Oh yes that sounds good. If you're a good salesperson or generally customer service oriented server and then the cooks go out and describe describe what it is versus the Swim Cook. The server won't know what's going to happen on the play until we kind of play Russian Roulette on the line and I say chef swim and whoever raises raises their hands or whoever doesn't raise their hand picked and they create the dish out of nothing. And if there's three tyrians or three vegans at a table they all get something different so then the cooks walk out and have to interact with the customers and then it's the customer then at it adds value to it because they have sunk trained professional. Make make something for them. They explain which box came out of. How look robes around the pollinators that help you know and we? We really put a lot of effort into this garden and and you can see. It's on steroids right now. With the bees and the summer just kind of one switch happen and the corn grew taller than the lights. Now but I think the connection between between putting a human in front of them that had to do it. Because if I'd take off. I took Avocados off the menu when they got really expensive. Because then I couldn't justify charging gene someone thirty dollars for a plate but they'll go there's avocados at Costco. Yeah bad avocados. Like you don't want Avocados from Peru. I promise you want Avocado says close to you as you can but they. They don't put a human next to a vegetable we don't we're just were a consumer generation of like it's supposed to be instant Amazon. Prime brought it an hour. It's like we're humans and we grow things and here we grow things and we sell them. So it's the connection ships. It's come full circle all right crystal. What is on your mind? There's this massive shift happening with our culture. You know people were buying a lot of things online now retail all stores are closing a lot more like online community is happening but it shifting the way that community is formed and I think that bakeries and coffee shops are one of the the last remaining traditional places where community is built like saint people come in every single day and they talk to their neighbors and they're actually like experiencing dancing that community that I feel like most of the people in this room grew up with because we're kind of pre digital age is a lot of time thinking about what kind of that's a a lot of pressure on some terms because it's like people aren't they're kind of losing their social skills. I know I am like I'm really bad at talking to people. They stare at my phone all the time and like I feel like being kind of one of the last like strongholds of a traditional community sense. I'm kind of just always thinking about what role that plays for for the future and how things are going to change in the future and what. Police Bakeries and coffee shops have in that general grand schemes a very wholesome but it's also terrifying crystal. Your social skills seemed just fine to reassure you my daughter likes to call me an elder millennial we still have a little bit of social skills my thinking about most these days other than this baby..

"Her that I was making them. Well I guess. Profession has getting paid for it so I guess that makes it a profession and she said I'm so she got very serious. I'm so glad you're doing this. We need more cottage industry like this. She said English muffins she said to me. How do you get them to cook so that they're cooked all the way through and not burn on the outside? I'm going Julia. Child is asking me how to do this. And then and I remembered her recipe. Didn't work this was not her recipe. This was from jam. Book called Cham- Shame Madelene or something like that and I said said that is the secret. Isn't it and I told her how I did it. And it was all about rolling it around in a bowl of corn meal and I said like you had taught me on one of your shows about cornmeal your meal being like a ball bearing and she said I never really thought about that and it was unbelievable. I couldn't believe it. So we're in the store and she signs the book and she didn't sign much of anything anything you know good luck or whatever and then Kate Nyerere lurking around the store watching her some more and she. Oh and you should have seen Kate. I have to say you know how mom's right so this kid of mine six six years old and she's just standing there looking at her and Julia said some things. I can't remember what it was. It was really cute so okay fast. Forward it's two thousand ten. I'm on what I called my odyssey because I decided being a teacher I needed to take some time off during the summer. Actually do something and not stand at the Xerox machine getting ready the next school year. MEROLA grammar packets. Remember those and I took off. I went on this Odyssey. I went to Portland just to go to Powell's books because I needed did more cookbooks. Right to add to that four thousand collection and so I'm coming back. It's twenty tenths. I'm in my little Volkswagen. Cabriolet go with the top down and Bonnie Raitt blasting having a great time and a car dies on the on the side of the road. I barely got to tires off the road. That was it and I'm talking about on this very near Oh I was four miles north of point arena which is two hundred and fifty miles north of San Francisco on the one not the one. Oh one the one the one the ones the one that goes like this and you can only drive twenty five miles an hour thankfully so I've got my two tires off on the side of the road and some I'm Kai comes turns around takes his truck and pushes me the rest of the way off the road and I was a little nervous about that called whoever the tow truck comes. I'm taking pictures of the tow truck taking my car away they take me down to point arena. I was on my way to that Lighthouse so I also like lighthouses and now I'm stuck there for a week because I don't know if I can say this. But what is the industry in Humboldt County growing pot exactly so the the town of point arenas about five blocks long the entire town is stoned. Looks like you can see smoke through the whole thing so he kept my car for a week never fixed it charged me a thousand dollars. Never fixed it he he had it towed to Healdsburg where his brother fixed it for another thousand dollars. That's another story anyway. So I put it up on facebook the picture of my car being towed and one of my friends called and he said I love point arena. You have to meet the Jam Lady. I said okay okay. Well I'll beat the jelly so I walk a mile down the road so I don't have a car I turn right and there's a sign. The Jam Lady had a real name is Lisa. Lisa Joa committees. She calls herself the Jam Lady. She makes jam in point arena. Sends it all over the place. I went inches a full kitchen. Like that one All stainless steel really professional. And all that we start talking papa she says yeah I used to work for Barbara Tropic. Chinamen cafe and I said Oh my good I love her. We figured out she cooked dinner sometime before. This is my God. This is amazing. She says I told her that Julia. Child Story Oh oh I forgot to tell you part of it. She wrote me a letter. She answered my little note that I had scrawled on a little tiny legal piece of paper cheap appropriate letter Julia Child. I have evidence and so I wrote back to her. She wrote me again. I still owe her a letter. I don't know why I never finished that. So I'm telling this story to Lisa the Jam Lady. She says wait right here. Okay on what's going on here. In this really weird place she disappeared. Disappears appears upstairs. Comes Down with a box opens the box. She has a dozen flutes champagne flutes. Julius ninetieth birthday party she says you need these. She gave me two of them. Isn't that amazing. I just went. I'm a total stranger. And she said we're not strangers. She she said you have to have these they have to yours size it. Okay thank you thank you. May we wrapped and very carefully. They got home even the bumpy Healdsburg thing and so then on her hundredth birthday. And I'm not sure what I think that was. I don't remember what year it was on her hundredth birthday. I was home from school that day. I think it was in August. I was home legally and hand. I cooked everything just all Julia child stuff and I called one of my friends. I said come on over. We use the Julia child fluids. We had a little split of champagne. We hosted her. I put it all up on facebook. It was amazing and now it's funny. I have those glasses there in my glass cabinet. But they're hidden in the back and my son in law was here in February and he went to reach for that to put for his champagne. I said Oh no no look what that says on it. He says Julia Child's ninetieth birthday. You don't use those. You don't appreciate that. This is Julia Child. I mean come on so that is my Julia Child Story. I Love Her love her the day that she died. My daughter was about twenty. I think she called me just limit on her own. She let me just mom have really bad news. I don't know what is this an accident. She says Julia died today and it was as if her her her grandmother had my mother had died. You know we were so so cried on the phone. You know who's better than Julia Child Right. Well now we have IENA but Julia Elliot Child in my heart. Thank thank you Diane for sharing your story and bringing me some of those English Muffins. English muffin pizzas. Were one of my favorite things to eat as a kid so I made a lot of them over the past.

"It's a pretty a fun place and they've got you know Kinda like garage door type things that go up so it feels a little bit open air. I love that. That's a really big San Diego County thing especially in the North North County Carlsbad and it was like the open this garage door. And there's like a bar on either side of that garage door and that's exactly how bolt is set up and then bottled craft if you want to taste a lot of different beers from different places. That's a fun spot to go because you can. Just they've got a bunch on on top then you can even And then they have different bottles goals and a lot of them local and different. Just different things you can taste. I really like going there. Because they have different hard Kombucha's so which is fine for me since I'm gluten intolerant. So let's talk about some restaurants. What are your favorite things around here? Well obviously being a little Italy Italian given so I think we'll get there in a minute and I'll kind of give you just some some standard other other options and then we'll we'll make Italian it's on category. Have a bad sounds good Melina Hall Great Place for family. Four if you WANNA watch a game. They've got really big. TV's has been always loves that and they also shuffleboard inside and they have a really very menu they do have pizza on the menu which is Great Eight But they have awesome salads appetizers. Good cocktails beer. It's A. They have tons of seating there always decorate really cool for the holidays too so Nolita the halls kind of like a go to for for my husband and our friends so some other options would be if you went to see more of a date night. Wouldn't say it's a place for kids is cloak and pedal has it's like Sushi Asian fusion definitely higher end. I would say has almost a New York vibe to it. So it's unexpected. They've got this incredible cherry tree in the middle of it. Like the whole place is a work of art and good cocktails good Sushi and different types of appetizer. So definitely If you're into if you're coming coming from east coast and you like later night or you want that kind of herb. Very urban vibe I would say pedals. A great option crack. Shack is an awesome awesome family friendly very casual place. They've also got outside games and things like that but that's very it's mostly chicken there. I've Gotten I. I don't only chicken but I've had different salads there and they're they've always been really great and I think it was started by somebody who was Richard blaze that sounds rights and they've got a crack check that just opened in the last year or two Peninsula Nita's and I went to and I loved it. I was really impressed with it yet. It's kind of a fun atmosphere. It's like I like how they have all the games and it just feels like you can really hang out there. Definitely feel definitely has a very nice viper hanging out. It's awesome for kids and if you go by there on a Thursday or Friday night there's just like tons of kids there and it seems like in a great place to have her family's one insider tip that at least two on behalf of my husband that he tells everyone who third thinking of going to crack check. He says get on their instagram account. And if you see something you think looks good. Just show it to the person WHO's working and say I want that because he says the menu the way it's display doesn't do the food justice so look at what you want on their instagram. And tell the the person who's taking your order. That's what you want on on their instagram. Any other restaurants. I would say if you want Brunch Queenstown. Public House is a great option. They also have a great happy hour. And if you haven't had any food intolerances or ah I wouldn't say necessarily picky eaters but people maybe you're on a special diet or something cafe. Gratitude is super accommodating and has lots of gluten friendly options majority of the items on our menu are Vegan if not all of them so just a great place and they're all they always ask at the beginning. Just anyone have any food intolerances or allergies. And they're careful to. I was really surprised I finally went to. I had heard about this place for years and finally went down there. I was surprised how huge it was too. Yeah and just. There's this fun or lateness about it. It's interesting place. It is and the food was really good. I've never had a bad meal there. So I'm like smoothies and desserts that are all like you know gluten free and all sorts of thing and even my parents who like I said I'm born and raised in the Midwest and so my parents have more of a mid West Palette for sure and they've been very pleasantly surprised every time I've taken them there even though some of the stuff on the menu might sound a little very California. They've all they've always loved it what they've had they're so all right so you said that while we are in little Italy's probably should talk about Italian. Yes and I suppose I'll start with my very favorite place that I'm partial to is. Civic is my very favorite spot i Emma Talian and so I don't know I appreciate that a lot of their way SAF is also Italian talion One time I went there and our waiter was from the same region that my family's from and it was cool. Sean you picture so it was really great experience. The home make their their pasta. They have gluten free options. There never had bill. They're either an. It's an awesome experience. If you want a little more it it's not a I wouldn't call it a casual spot but it has amore casual by than some of the other restaurants in the area if you want more kind of an upscale vibe Benko does a great option. I've gone to been Koto three or four times and I have to say it's one of my favorite Italian place. I was knocked over my how good it was really good the homemade pasta and just they just do things a little differently Definitely definitely the chef is from Milan. I believe yeah. Yeah which makes sense that it has that feel because the different If you've ever been to Italy I would say Civil has more of like a Florentin vibe and Ben Koto would definitely be Milan like the fashion capital. And everything's a little more fancy there and for is a little more it just I wouldn't call it gritties out the right word but like home cooking homeys. I've been to Italy. We went for our honeymoon and I can tell a difference between like you you go to Italy. It's like just the food tastes different somehow. And that's when I went to Bunko. That was what was blowing my mind going. Wow this really reminds me of Italy yes breath totally for so. I can't wait to try US CIPPICO. Nineteen twenty eight. I've got to try that. Maybe even today yeah all right so we can get into new bars or yeah I guess Pars our next all right so I will give you a range of options here. So one of favourite. They don't know if you'd find it easily. Online is false idol. It's a speakeasy style. But if you've ever been speakeasy sale bar it's you know it's it's more exclusive like you gotTa tell there's no sign for it however once you get in the field is not the same as any other speakeasy I've ever been to it has They take like they have a lot of runs and they have a very tropical. Feel at almost feels like you're in rainforest cafe and they have like a waterfall back in there. But it's in the back of craft and Commerce homer which is another great Barr option which is has a very woodsy field offices if your grandfather's home or something and then you you know if you mentioned to the hostess that you WanNa go back to fall silo. They'll take your name if they of space or whatever and when you go back and just like a totally different world the way you just came from which is a really interesting missing experience. So I think that's what I'm loving about seeing all these speakeasy come you know. Come to town. There's several of them. We've been to two of them. I I think that that's the cool thing about them is that they're hidden. And so you have to like be in the know in order to go and usually something. That's out in front and then to get into the speakeasy or in Carlsbad. There's one where you have to knock on the door a certain knack and you have to have a certain passer. I look through and right so so there you go. You're in the know. Now all you gotTa do is there's there's uh-huh a hosted stand right when you walk in to craft in commerce and you can let them know that you'd like to go to false idols. So I imagine easier earlier is easier to get into probably so now probably so. I've been several times. I just can't quite remember what you know what time it was a Water Front Grille waterfront bar and grill It's I think it's Burn San Diego. I think it was I had done some research before we got on this podcast and it said Nineteen thirty three institution that outlasted the waterfront but it still draws crowd coats and they're yeah draw draws huge crowds and personally. I'm always quite surprised by the large crowds at draws. Because I mean the drinks are just fine. It's like what you'd get it a wedding but it is a sight to see that. It's like the Super Bowl bar that everyone still goes to so If you're if you want that or you just don't really you just want to vodka soda or a beer great place to go great especially for happy hour. Yeah play fund music usually like Friday night. It's a lot of throwbacks and things like that. So it's a win. One thing I want to mention is Margaritas. Your San Diego. Maybe have a taste for Mexican food. King and Queen Cantina is an awesome spot for good Mexican awesome. Happy Hour is good. Margarita's that's go to and then another place as that I might mention. It's not necessarily bars but maybe a great way to kind of end and evening out would be stern. Hey Desserts now that is really famous here. It is extraordinary. Very it's almost like there's no words for it because it's six two ordinary it's it's all there in the name it is extraordinary desert however was not in the name of that they also have breakfast lunch and dinner menu which are also amazing but absolutely unbelievable desserts. Yes gluten free options yes vegan options. Yes on the pricier end but trust me. It's it's extraordinary. You should stop there if you're coming to San Diego. You're going to be a little Italy checkout extraordinary desert. Okay so is there any other desert places that you'd recommend yes. Yeah so if you went in July auto I would check out It's called Boboy and they actually have two locations now one of them being in the Piazza and it's in what's called a little Italy Food Hall which I'll just take a moment to mention is a great place to check out especially if you're traveling traveling with a large group that everybody can get what they want and then you can all kind of bring reconveyance it together either outside or inside great place to go And Bobby is in there. They have one location. That's in there with a slightly limited menu and they have another location on Kettner. which each has their you know their full menu do a lot of seasonal flavors of July? And it's amazing. They was originated in the Hoya and now they've just opened these two additional locations and it's awesome they have my husband's favorite is Mediterraneo. And I liked that one but I. I really love to do the Vegan dark chocolate and and they're pursues awesome so definitely check it out if your energy Lada And then Papa Lecco is another place that has got Giuliano and coffee really fun but it reminds me a lot of Italy. Italy where you walk in and you know you see like the cases with like sandwiches and pastries and things. It feels very much like we were blown away. We've only been to a handful of places in all of little Italy. And Papa was one of the first. We had a station here for our anniversary. And so we went in there and we had breakfast and the breakfast was phenomenal. Not they did such a great job. Yep and then my husband loves Italian coffee. Of course but the other thing they're croissants. Oh Gosh there almond filled croissant is like one of the the things that I could just die for the they have a whole range of patients. It really has very much like you feel when you're exactly how it goes some place to check out as well and that's right in the heart of everything as well. I think it's Cedar Street. And then I know we've Kinda taught music but just to recap seems like a lot of the bars at night have a little bit of music. Rights go very far not many silent bars. Yup Italy. You certainly don't need to go far to find find great music and the other thing. Is that waterfront park or write down near the harbour to within walking distance should there tend to be a lot of music festivals. So if you're into that Kinda anything I know there's one coming up we're recording this November. There's one coming up relatively soon. That's kind of more like a reggae type music. So if you're into music festivals check out which ones might becoming to the little Italy area in could spend you know three or four days hanging around here. Well I love Italy and thank you so much for all your help. I'm really excited to explore more more of little Italy. I thought I knew a lot and now realizing how many places I've missed so please subscribe and if you go things to do in San Diego Dot. "Thanks for joining us. This is Sherry Bonelli. I'm your host and this is things to do in San Diego and today with my guest and Marie Rose Thank you Marie. Thanks for having me and tell me a little bit about yourself. I'm a brand strategist. So help coaches consultants and experts. who want to grow their businesses specifically online? I help them to clarify their message. and to grow online in a way that's aligned with author vision and feels really good to them and serves their audience. So have you today because I know you work in little Italy. Although at the moment you're still love living in we're in east village village but my husband and I we've been frequent fans of the APP zillow for about three years. Now just trying to find the right place at the right time. It's you know it's that's likely going to be happening sooner than later. So what is it that you like about little Italy that you would wanna live here I really we love just the energy of the area specifically I like it's generally really clean on your super close to the bay so I love that it has the relax San San Diego Vibes still but it is still very high energy and it's not. There are a lot of tourists that come to the little Italy area eh but it's not like a touristy area if that makes sense it's there's still a lot of people who live right around here and so you almost don't know who's a local and who's a tourist wrist my husband. I joked that sometimes you could tell the tourists by what they're wearing or if they're like looking at him out trying to point things but it's not a tourist area per se so how wiz transportation here. What would you recommend people? They're going to Come here on vacation. They're gonNA come here on vacation if they want to. Stay specifically like downtown town. I would say. Don't you run A car. It's one very very close to the airport. That's also one of my favorite things about living downtown. It's ten minutes less than go to the airport. So you could easily get an uber or lift for less than probably less than ten dollars here and then if you plan to hang around downtown town a great option is just to rideshare wherever he planned to go or if you're open to scooters with their scooters maybe there's tons of scooter scooters and they've done they've really tried to contain them as well so they're not like Lang- everywhere they have scooter parking spots now and Honestly won't let you close out unless you park in one of those scooter parking parking spots and then And so you're also not at risk O of like if you're on the sidewalk you're not gonna get hit necessarily hit by scooters. I mean no guarantees. But they've widened the lanes here downtown to accommodate for more people riding scooters. So how do they charge for the scooters. 'cause I haven't quite done it yet and I wasn't quite sure you know. I think it's an APP that you get on your phone. So there is some of the popular ones are like bird and line and then now lift and I think Uber. There's there's four five six different kinds hindes so you download the APP of your choice and then you put your credit card information and just like you would with getting an uber lift right and then you pay based on the distance that you're going however we have noticed recently that we think they may be charging flat rates. I Pacific distances. But we haven't really looked so that. How much would that be if you're going downtown to little Italy so little? Italy is technically considered downtown. Bite if you're going to like we're all the tall buildings are I guess You know I don't know more like core Columbia area to three dollars. Oh it's the most the most expensive ivory paid from my place to little Italy. which is maybe it's like a mile is five dollars okay? And that's I think they were testing out some of those slap fees at the time so and so then. The train is right here to right the coaster. The coasters right here so you can. It's really easy to get up to North County. I just took the coaster actually for the first time I've been here for years. Moved here from the Midwest by been here for years and That was the first time I took. The coach was last weekend and it was so easy I mean from here to Sauna. Beach was less than a half an hour and we honestly were like. Oh we're here already so easy and a great ride and fun because you're able to see the ocean for a lot of in. It's Nice so if you're driving driving down from somewhere else how was parking here. Parking can be rough. And maybe you even want to speak to this little bit because you just found parking. I mean a lot of times. I'm either ridesharing or get dropped off at the office or walking. I have to say it's it's usually difficult. I've been to little Italy about three or four times in the last month and a half and every time I'm like oh no I've got to try and find parking. There are parking lots and I know that you had said that if you go downtown more that there's a lot bigger lots and is your to find the parking garage. Take those scooter or something over here right right so you almost are better off just finding a great parking surrounding area. That's you know less than a mile out and then just either getting a scooter or having nice walk through the the bright side is it's a great place to walk around. Yes so lots to see and I will say that to find street parking. I just experimented with this yesterday morning. Might a friend for coffee at seven. Forty five a M right here. Aaron literally like the Center right in front of the Piazza which will talk about it. I mean I'm sure and there was some street parking like to our parking so in the morning not so bad once it gets to be about ten eleven. Am All the way into the evening. Pretty tough how about hotels or our places to stay. What would you recommend so kind of depends on budget and the amount of people staying? So if you're a large family that's coming I would really recommend looking in a neighboring neighborhood. One great one being bankers health hell so bankers will still very very walkable from little Italy. My parents just recently came out to visit and they stayed and loved it they were. They stayed in Bangor Hill and walked through. I will say one thing to be mindful of if you're super super light sleeper is page two reviews of wherever GONNA say whether it's AIRBNB or the hotel about how loud the airplanes are because little Italy is so close to the airport. Airplanes fly overhead. So something just be mindful of my parents. They stayed in Bakersville literally right on the flight path. So you know. Clean was literally landing like less than a quarter mile from where they were and it says flying overhead and they said that they were woken up to the first two mornings around six. Am and then after that they slept right through it. So bring your plugs s S. at the you don't mind that but bankers will have a lot of airbnb options. That would be awesome for larger families. If you're saying just a few nights and you want a more of a hotel experience there's Hotel Republica I think it's I think it's Republica and then brand new one. That's names already escaped me. Even though I just a sociopath both the Sofia Sofia's anymore downtown I do not have had People that I know staying there and it is. It's nice and it's it's a very close walking distance. It's another one that there's a brand new one that just got built and it starts with a C. O.. We'll put that in the show. Yeah we'll put it in the show and but they've got a lot of different great amenities. I've walked AH. I've not had anyone that I know of have stayed there but I've walked past it multiple times and seen the amenities and it looks very nice and I think fairly typical all one hundred hundred twenty dollars maybe up higher towards the weekend type of rates so are there places to stay in little Italy or is it just more expensive is what you're saying I'm can be more expensive and especially if you're going to airbnb route is it's going to be more expensive. Because a lot of them are larger condos that you'd be renting in Bakers Hill. They're more options ends airbnb wise. And I've done research on this with my parents before so I've seen it. They're just don't tend to be quite as many and a lot of buildings in little Italy. It seems like maybe have restrictions Chins on being able to Airbnb your place. So Bankers Hill is going to be a good option. If you want to go to airbnb route or maybe you're traveling with a larger group and you want more of a house that I can probably find something like that and Bakers Hill much more easily than you would be able to find for a little Italy little in little Italy. Though there are several hotels that are nice. He's fairly affordable. It just depends if you're you know if you've got four kids and trying to sleep everybody it can get that can price can increase pretty quickly. Okay and binker so you would say that. That's pretty safe. Oh yeah okay. Great how about shopping. What would you say the shopping is like round here? Lots of local boutiques and really great kind of art. SEGER shops around here. You're not gonNA find any big box stores and little Italy that's for sure That would be more mission valley area but in little Italy lots of great boutiques firth fashion and even home decor things like that on. There's a few little touristy shops that are around but I'd say the majority is really local local business owners to Cuba boutiques great places to get gifts and then Live music I know live. Music is such a big deal and it seems like you know the way. The Piazza here is that. Tell me all about the live music and let me let let me out bridge the gap here. 'cause I definitely should have mentioned when we asked about shopping. I didn't know if we would get to this later. But the farmer's market every Saturday is huge. It's like what people know little Italy for is is the Machado and it's I think it spans four maybe five blocks. I should know this come almost every single weekend and there are also lots of great local vendors beyond just food related things. So there's food you could come to eat. You could come to shop to make something to eat. You could come to shop for all sorts of different goods. I think the ring that I'm wearing is from From the farmers market so they've got all sorts of different goods and lots of music they have live music on almost every block during during the farmers market. which is amazing and then on Saturday evenings in the Piazza the majority of Saturday evenings they also have live music and other nights throughout the week but I know Oh pretty consistently they have live music? And the Piazza that's free. You just come and hang out and it's awesome and then music box if you want more of like a concert type of field music boxes. Oxygen Really Great Intimates Concert venue that that tends to attract a lot of I wouldn't say bigger bigger name but you know people need to hear on the radio. So how close is it to water being here right on basically on the water. I think I've ever actually seen the I mean I guess I have driven down the highway but like what is there right by the water. Anything Waterfront Park would be something that's right by the water and that's a great place if you got kids and they want to. They need to burn off some energy Waterfront Park is really great for that. There's an awesome playground and it's just very relaxing area so that that is right up against the Harbor Arbor. If you want more of like you WanNa spend a day at the beach you really close to you bet ten minute drive from Coronado or about a ten to fifteen minute drive live from like Pacific beach or somewhere that you could get those of each day. You're not gonNA necessarily be able to have a beach day right and little Italy but you are right on the the the base cell so this is exactly the reason why we have guests on the show. I'm in San Diego but I'm forty five minutes away so when I get down here I have no idea what's going on Yup all right. so how `Bout wineries and breweries would you like so as you know kind of what we were chatting before I mentioned. I'm not the best for beer because I am gluten intolerant but but I do have some reference points for that but I'll chat line I because that's actually going to tonight. CARUTH sellers is my favorite place. They've got A winegarden here in little. It'll it'll have three different locations throughout San Diego but they have a wine garden location in little Italy so the wineries located up North County but they have this. You know it's tasting room field but they've got this great garden. Venue that super relaxing. Great date spot. Or if you're coming with you know like a couple's trip great spot to go. There's also oh an wine house which is really awesome like intimate cute. I would call it like it's very cute. It's feels like your in house there and then poly or polly they wind company Not sure you pronounce. That has more of kind of a modern upscale. Feel to it where they've got this nice rooftop seating and that's also a great replace. That tends to be really popular like Saturday afternoons all right and so then breweries. Your husband goes to the Burris. Yes well I've been with him plenty of times So ballast point is right. Here so bows point is San Diego based so that's a given and I've been there plenty times. They have like little private outside lied. Patio cubbies almost if you put your VIP at a club. But it doesn't feel like that but kind of like that. Where I've been there? People had birthday parties. And they've I don't know if they've rented or just claimed that in advance so it's kind of Nice but they have outdoor area indoor area full menu. Everything they do have wine if you're not into beer. So which is what I had. So but then there's also bolt brewery which tends to be really popular. I have not personally been there but it's always happening over there so zoom..

"Host and today. I am with Whitney Ebert. And Whitney is a schoolteacher. Here third grade third grade but she also is one of the inventors of the Blimey box her and her husband. So I'll how put some information on that on the website but in a nutshell the blimey box is really cool thing for kindergarten through. Maybe third graders and it's kind of like if you imagine the escape room but in a box for the kids it'll keep them busy at dinner. So that was kind of how I met Whitney and I just I thought it was so amazing what she created. So welcome Whitney. Hi thanks for helping us today. We're GONNA talk about coastal Carlsbad and we're GonNa talk about the area Well we're also GONNA talk about kids and things to do with kids because I know that there's so many people that go to legal land and then after legal and they're like okay. Where can we go? What else is can we do? And you know something that appeals to appearance as well as the kids yes exactly let's start talking about Carlsbad and Coastal Carlsbad. If you had to describe it it in three phrases or three words what would you say well in kind of the area of Carlsbad that we're talking about today I would definitely say it's cheeks right along the coast very casual law and family friendly. What would you say about transportation? Like how bad is perking on the coast. And what would you do for transportation. Well it depends on what time of year you're here if it's in the summer. Parking is atrocious. And it's really bad especially downtown in the village where there's all the shops in by the beach is is parking is really bad so I would recommend either bring getting here super early in the morning or what's really cool is we do have a train station right downtown. Carlsbad in the village And that's awesome so if you're staying somewhere coastal are coming in from la or downtown San Diego. It's just just an easy stop right on the train in the summer. Parking's bad but the rest of the year parking's pretty good shopping shopping. Well we have a few miles in Carlsbad. We have the outlet mall which is pretty popular with some good stories. We have the shops at Carlsbad. which is a mall? That's kind of a work in progress. Progressive Does have a movie theater which is really Nice in new riegel movie theater and a lot of restaurants but they're still working on getting more stores in there but it's in easy place to take kids because it's never crowded ever so you can always go there as far as the outlet mall. I like about that is. It's right there by legal land right by legal and yes and it's ripped out a flower fields and the flower fields are fun to put on the outlet malls or right there. Lots of good stores. They're fun shopping. And there's one more hint if you ever are here during Fourth of July if you stand right above the flower fields like right on that street that goes to Legoland yes the best place to so watch fireworks you get like maybe ten or twelve different fireworks that you can see you can go. You can see all the way down to point Loma and all the way up until like maybe even past castaways inside you get such an incredible display. That's awesome. What do you think about hiking in parks? I think he'd you guys do a lot of hiking. Do we love to hike around here and there's some really nice easy hike so that even the kids can can hike themselves. We have a dog so we like to look for dog friendly hiking. Oh we'll go down to a bad keates lagoon which is a little bit farther South Carlsbad and it's really easy. I mean even my two year old can walk on these little paths author really flat. It just really pretty down there. They have a little nature reserve and they have a right along a golf course and so you can see Vr Golf. Of course it's really pretty and then we also go over to calibrate hills and it's a little bit more hilly. There are some like a water thing. They're like little man-made Lake or something but it's not as pretty there but it's at least a little bit more heike and my son who's six. He can hike that really easily and my daughter can do part of it but then I have to put her on my back for for part of it as well both of them you can take dogs on leashes so it's really nice. You also told me earlier about Hidden Canyon and I've never been there and you even the locals don't know Oh yeah. So Hidden Canyon is just a little. It's just a little park and playground it's off of Carlsbad village alleged drive and it's east of Alchemy Arou- just a little bit east of El Camino and you go down this little area and it's this little park down there and it's kind of tucked away. It's really nice. A great play structure lots of grass and it is kind of hidden in an especially with young kids. It's like one of those parks where it just feels all kind of tucked away and and closed it in so that it's just a great place to you could just let the kids run around and play. It's awesome one of the things I really love about. Carl's better all these little hidden museum. They're not the huge museums like in Balboa Park but their museums that I swear most of my neighbors don't even know exist. Do you have any of your favorites. If you're yes yes we do. My son is in love with the Museum of making music and he absolutely loves going to that museum and it's really great because he can really interactive for him. He can push lots of buttons here. About how all these different instruments throughout history made noise and what kind of music they make back and it takes him through the history of music and instruments and then at the end. There's like this grey area that super interactive and he compla- lots of different instruments. They have get guitar and drums all sorts of different things that he can be hands on with and he'll spend thirty. He minutes just playing all these different instruments and interacting with them and so he absolutely loves going there so we try to take him like we go there at least six times a year. Because it's one of his favorites and it's right by legal and it's like right in our backyard so it's nice that that it's so close we don't have to be going down to Belo Park all the time and we can just go to some great museums ray here when when my kids were little. We did the same and we couldn't get the kids out of there because you know they'd spend thirty minutes is playing guitar thirty minutes playing drums and then there would be the next instrument and it was nice because they didn't kick you out and it wasn't that dizzy. No yes it's always pretty calm and quiet in there and it's right right next to legal land yes and the gift shop is really cool to get her son. Always get something. There's a tour that I know. Both of us have been dying to take their kids to and ourselves and one day. We'll get to it to of chocolate as I have some friends that have done the tour. We're and they said it's awesome and so. Let's definitely on our checklist. Like we want to go visit there and so twenty years ago. Were there about right. Before Michael all started to our chocolate I met him. He's really an amazing chef as well as a as doing chocolates and he said I want and back then he was an events need us. I want to be known for the chocolate. And the surfing. And so now he's officially in Carlsbad and gives these really amazing tourists and that's somewhat somewhat recent because twenty years ago fifteen years ago. They didn't do that. Yeah no I mean because we see as chocolate the chocolate everywhere and it's so good so I'm just like oh I can't believe it's right in our neighborhood that we can go visit and taste it slam excited and two hours felt C. H. U. A.. And that's for plantation that's in Venezuela this way love and we've got to talk more about the beaches in the lagoon. So what would you like to talk. Shows love that we have we do have amazing beaches in Carlsbad. I'm a little bit biased. But I think I mean we just have amazing beaches. Because they're big and there's lots of and and they're you don't feel cramped. I know some of the beaches down in Southern and farther down south in San Diego a little bit tight and cramped we have some really great beaches in Carlsbad. We also have one of our favorite little places is. There's a lagoon that we go to and we really to this ligament because with my daughter who's two sometimes the waves the regular beaches can be a little bit big and and so at the lagoon. It's a say never pronounce it right. AGUA AGUA ahead. Yoda yes Agua lagoon. They have there's this little beach and and it's with sand. It's dog friendly. which is awesome for us? You can bring your dog on a leash and you can just set up at the beach and it's all sandy. There's no waves and the kids. You can just kind of play in the sand they can. You know splash in the water. There's no swimming but my kids. Don't they just go and get to their knees and build sand castles and play around and they absolutely love it. So it's one of our favorite little beaches to go to and it's tucked away and I grew up in Carlsbad and I didn't even know about this until I was an adult did you. You told me that you guys do jet skiing pedal or somebody knows their new paddle boarding but we bring our own. We bring our own paddleboard. So it's different. There's another place that's a little bit farther. Are there west on the lagoon that I think you can rent things to go but we bring our own and we can launch from this beach and it's right at the end of a street called bayshore drive and it's just just you go down park and there's bayshore drive and it takes you down to this little coldest AC and you can drop off your staff and then you just walk right down to the beach each and it's very it's just a gem. We go there with our friends a lot. I never knew about that. Oh that's I grew up here and I never even knew it existed and now we go. It's one of our number one beaches here so I want to explain a little bit about the lagoons because I think it can be confusing because there's two lagoons yes. Do you want to explain it since you've been in Carlsbad and you're on the coast more so the league in that we were just talking about that. Heavy owned Agua lagoon. That's more than North North Carlsbad..

"Welcome to things to do in San Diego. I'm your host Sherri Manelli and today my guests will be my husband Ron Manila. Because we're going to be talking about an area that's really special to me because it's near where we live. It's a little crazy as it's not focused on exactly one town. It's kind of in the middle of several towns Lacoste Southeast Carlsbad Self Vista and West San Marcos is the area that we're covering today and just reminder. I want you to have the best day ever in San Diego County and so to keep keep the authentic neither my guest nor I are ever paid or compensated for any of the places we mentioned on the podcast. There are no sponsors and and I just want to talk about places that we really love and my guests are I are passionate about. So what's the catch. I am setting up a Patriot account. And if you'd like to donate I would so appreciate that because it does take time to do this podcast and if you go to the website I might have affiliate links but those are going to be clearly labeled able or laid out I would only do affiliate links for places that I feel like that product or service is something that I would personally by for for. Today's show you might want to take a look at the map on things to do in San Diego Dot. US to Orient Yourself. This area is North San Diego County. The epicenter honor. Where we're talking about is around Palam Airport Road and melrose which is about five miles? Inland from the ocean I guess if I had to describe grabbed the area I would say it's extremely family oriented as well as dog friendly people love their dogs appear and loved to take him everywhere. It's also very very safe. It's comfortable and beautiful. So who would this not before I would say if you're on the younger side and you're looking to party. Ah You're looking for more action. You'd WanNa go downtown but if you have kids this is really a great location visit and stay. Were about twelve minutes from legal land. It's really family oriented area. So let's talk about where to stay. If you're looking for hotel you can find quite quite a few down Palomar airport road around L. Forte. That'll be about five miles inland but a great place to stay because it's so close to a whole bunch of grocery stores like trader. Joe's stater brothers and sprouts and it's very close to a lot of restaurants and bars and even a few breweries. It's also only about ten minutes from Lego Lance. So if you're looking for something that's a little less crowded. It's definitely a good alternative additive. If you're looking for something very fancy and expensive. The Omni Look Hasta resort is world famous. They have tennis tournaments in golf tournaments. There that are broadcast all over the world. It's right there Lacoste Avenue and Alchemy. `real the rooms will be very expensive. But they've got all sorts of amenities. It's a luxury hotel. The swimming pools with all the water slides are magnificent. There is a lot of boutique. Shopping at La- CASTA resort. There's also the world famous choper center and there's several really great restaurants fronts. There's also the possibility of staying in an AIRBNB. And there's quite a few that are listed on Airbnb site around Lacoste Kosta and South Carlsbad Spurs transportation. In this area. You will always find plenty of parking. It's definitely place is to drive. There's little to no public transportation so if you don't have a car what you can do. Is You can take the coaster train and go. Oh Two points idea station and then take a lifter an uber. What about shopping in Carlsbad? There's not a lot of shopping in the area. I'm about got to talk about with all the restaurants and bars and breweries and whatnot. Most of the shopping you would wanna go towards the one on one highway as you drive down at. There's lots of little boutiques but there is the outlet mall and the Outlet Mall is close to the five and Pelham report road. There are some other small shops around. One of my personal favorites is uptown cheapskate. And you'll find that at we call it the Dove Library abry area. There's a Vaughn's shopping center and that's it Oh Camino real and Osceola parkway there's also quite a bit of shopping at at the forum and the forum is at K. Barcelona and I'll Camino real. That's a pretty big lifestyle l.. I Guess Strip Mall. I don't know what you would call it. The apple store is there the Jimbo's natural food as well as big toy store. Japan does but there's a lot of other Bucci clothing stores as well and then there's La Kosta the Omni lasta resort and there's there's several very fancy places in there to shop. You probably don't expect to find museums in Carlsbad. There's actually quite wait a few cool ones. I'm not GonNa talk about all of them in this episode. Because we have another episode coming up with Whitney where she talks about what to do after Lego land one of the museums that I'm really fond of. And if you have somebody in your family who loves motors news and mechanical things. Then they need to go to the craftsmanship museum. The Craftsmanship Museum is at ten million dollars museum hidden in a Business Business Park. You would never find it unless you knew the exact address. It's not even open all weekend. It's finally open on Saturdays. From nine to one it is absolutely incredible with the miniatures and replicas they have volunteers that are so excited and passionate tonette too great place to go they ask for just a donation. It's definitely worth going and you can spend hours there if you have little. Oh kids I don't know that I would take them because you're not allowed to touch a lot of things and so that might be a problem. Another museum is a Gemmological Institute of America and the Gemmological Institute. It's world famous. There are people that come from all over the world and I'm shocked at how many people in Carlsbad I bet have no idea that it's they're not only that but they have a museum and they have exhibit that come so in order to see the museum and either take like a guided or self guided tour. You have to make reservations in advance because of the high security definitely if you love gems and rocks. It's worth going. They have a huge library. So if there's any kind of research that you're trying to do you can find your answers there as well another place. That's I suppose kind of a museum Liam. I don't know that I would classify it as such is the Leo Korea ranch. If you're into old westerns you might have heard of Pancho from the Cisco Kid Kit from the fifties. Well Leo Correo was Poncho. He had a long acting career and he wanted a working ranch and he would bring his friends. Sometimes Clark Gable. Other famous people would show up at Leo Korea ranch and so now it was given to the city of Carlsbad and they give tours. You can get though sent to give you a tour or you can just wander around another thing that we like to do there. is we like to get an APP for geocaching take go look for things. It's just kinda fun and especially when the kids were little but one thing that you'll notice about. Leo Korea Rant is that there are about forty peacocks. Yes and the peacocks. Are there because they used to have rattlesnakes and they would bring in the peacock's because the peacocks would eat the rattlesnakes it's a fun place to go. Oh you can get them to turn on a ten or fifteen minute movie so you can learn about Lou crews life and they've got a little gift shop. It's just a cute. I think it's twenty seven Acre place to hang out bring a picnic. They've got lots of picnic. Benches parts of it are very picturesque. So you can take some pictures there as well now. You also have to make sure that you check with them and make sure they're open. They do so many weddings and other big events there that they sometimes closed down early early especially on weekends. Talk about coffee houses. I love coffee houses because I like to go there and do my work and hang out and and there's some really nice ones the first one that I would recommend is lacoste. Roasting Lacoste roasting is in that vence and library strip mall. That I talked about earlier. LA- Castro singers right next to uptown cheapskate. which is a great place to go shopping and I love it because not only do they do? They're roasting there. They bring in really nice tease. They've got a nice bit of bakery goods pastries there. You can sit sit inside or outside. It's just a really comfortable place for people. Watching and relaxing got very comfortable furniture outside. It's really nice. I I also like old California coffeehouse and that's in restaurant row so if you go down Pelham our airport road all the way down until it turns into San Marcos Boulevard. So I would say it's probably seven miles from the coast. I Love Old California coffeehouse because it's so o'cl Arctic. They have really good food there. They even have to Lotto to start a great place to sit and have a nice tea or a coffee. And then finally a Pete's coffee I usually don't recommend chains. But what I like about. Pete's coffee is the location. Pete's coffee is right there. At presi ranch Presi ranches off of Gateway Costa Forte off of Palomar Airport road. It's a huge shopping shopping center. Three grocery stores around there many restaurants and many are really excellent and a few bars pete's coffee. She is situated right there next to trader Joe's and next to the park and the park for bracy ranch has a Gazebo Abo- and some fountains. There's a ton of roses but it's just so beautifully maintained it's a nice place to sit there on the patio patio and just people watch and with our nice weather. It's pretty much great year round all right now. It's time to talk about brees bars restaurants food and have ron here. My husband thinks Ron for helping me on this part. Of course all right. Let's talk about wineries because there's some some shockingly good wineries in Carlsbad and San Marcos that you would never guess were here One of my favorites is to plank. which which is just in a tiny industrial park in Vista? It's right off of Sycamore and La Mirada. Excellent wine. They bring it in they bring in the grapes and they do all of the processing for it. Make the wine in house and I think it definitely deserves a shout. Yeah absolutely it's a great quality. Polity wine they they source from all sorts of places and the winemaker really knows what he's doing so it's just great great stuff in a nice nice tasting room there. Yeah the tasting awesome closes at eight but if you get your butt in the doorway before eight you can stay. There's another winery. Leffler Fleur is in San Marcos. Like a uh not too far off San Marcos Boulevard near the LAS Pozas exited gives a highway seventy eight and It's another one really nice. People great wine Industrial Park doesn't doesn't look like much but it's a it's nice. It's good good wine. Good Times yeah and what I like about. Both of these places is that they they have painting nights to plank is going to start having it weekly on Saturday night where you can go paint and have a glass of wine and flora. I'm not sure they're scheduled so take a look at their website website. Let's try not wine or beer twisted horn. Yeah this is. This is a great place They specialize in hard cider and mead. Mead is is wine made with honey instead of grapes. Just really something different especially loved the decider. They do the traditional varieties plus they have a whole bunch of wants at add fruit and spices and all that and they always have something different in the winter. They do mulled CIDER. So it's warm with spices and everything and so great stuff steph. Curry's so we're only going to cover about three of them because in other episodes will probably cover other ones Carlsbad. Brewing is one of the newer places that opened up so immensely popular. We were there only a few weeks after they opened great food. And they're not even they decided not to even have one of those grand openings because they were already too popular. I think it's going to get more and more popular and I also If you WANNA quite dinner at this is not the place to go. It's very loud because it's one huge tall room. Yeah they're really off to a good start and looks like they're gonNA have Quite a large brewing facility..

There is a lot of boutique shopping at La- CASTA resort there's also the world famous choper center and there's several really great restaurants fronts there's also the possibility of staying in an AIRBNB and there's quite a few that are listed on Airbnb site around Lacoste Kosta and South Carlsbad Spurs transportation in this area you will always find plenty of parking it's definitely a place is to drive there's little to no public transportation so if you don't have a car what you can do is you can take the coaster train and go oh two points idea station and then take a lifter an uber what about shopping in Carlsbad there's not a lot of shopping in the area I'm about got to talk about with all the restaurants and bars and breweries and whatnot most of the shopping you would wanna go towards the one on one highway as you drive down at there's lots of little boutiques but there is the outlet mall and the outlet mall is close to the five and Pelham report road there are some other small shops around one of my personal favorites is uptown cheapskate and you'll find that at we call it the Dove Library Abry area there's a Vaughn's shopping center and that's it L. Camino real and Osceola parkway there's also quite a bit of shopping at at the forum and the forum is at K. Barcelona and I'll Camino real that's a pretty big lifestyle L. I guess Strip mall I don't know what you would call it the apple store is there the Jimbo's natural food as well as big toy store Japan does but there's a lot of other Bucci clothing stores as well and then there's La Kosta the Omni luster resort and there's there's several very fancy places in there to shop you probably don't expect to find museums in Carlsbad there's actually quite wait a few cool ones I'm not GonNa talk about all of them in this episode because we have another episode coming up with Whitney where she talks about what to do after Lego land one of the museums that I'm really fond of and if you have somebody in your family who loves motors news and mechanical things then they need to go to the craftsmanship museum the Craftsmanship Museum is at ten million dollars museum hidden in a business business park you would never find it unless you knew the exact address it's not even open all weekend it's finally open on Saturdays from nine to one it is absolutely incredible with the miniatures and replicas they have volunteers that are so excited and passionate tonette too great place to go they ask for just a donation it's definitely worth going and you can spend hours there if you have little oh kids I don't know that I would take them because you're not allowed to touch a lot of things and so that might be a problem. Another museum is a Gemmological Institute of America and the Gemmological Institute it's world famous there are people that come from all over the world and I'm shocked at how many people in Carlsbad I bet have no idea that it's they're not only that but they have a museum and they have exhibit that come so in order to see the museum and either take like a guided or self guided tour you have to make reservations in advance because of the high security definitely if you love gems and rocks it's worth going they have a huge library so if there's any kind of research that you're trying to do you can find your answers there as well another place that's I suppose kind of a museum Liam I don't know that I would classify it as such is the Leo Korea ranch if you're into old westerns you might have heard of Pancho from the Cisco Kid Kit from the fifties well Leo Correo was Poncho he had a long acting career and he wanted a working ranch and he would bring his friends sometimes Clark Gable other famous people would show up at Leo Korea ranch and so now it was given to the city of Carlsbad and they give tours you can get though sent to give you a tour or you can just wander around another thing that we like to do there is we like to get an APP for geocaching take go look for things it's just kinda fun and especially when the kids were little but one thing that you'll notice about Leo Korea rant is that there are about forty peacocks yes and the peacocks are there because they used to have rattlesnakes and they would bring in the peacock's Kaz the peacocks would eat the rattlesnakes it's a fun place to go oh you can get them to turn on a ten or fifteen minute movie so you can learn about Lou crews life and they've got a little gift shop it's just a cute I think it's twenty seven Acre place to hang out bring a picnic they've got lots of picnic benches parts of it are very picturesque so you can take some pictures there as well now you also have to make sure that you check with them and make sure they're open they do so many weddings and other big events there that they sometimes closed down early early especially on weekends talk about coffee houses I love coffee houses because I like to go there and do my work and hang out and and there's some really nice ones the first one that I would recommend is Lacoste Roasting Lacoste roasting is in that vence and library Strip mall that I talked about earlier La- Castro singers right next to uptown cheapskate which is a great place to go shopping and I love it because not only do they do they're roasting there they bring in really nice tease they've got a nice bit of bakery goods pastries there you can sit sit inside or outside it's just a really comfortable place for people watching and relaxing got very comfortable furniture outside it's really nice I I also like old California coffeehouse and that's in restaurant row so if you go down Pelham our airport road all the way down until it turns into San Marcos Boulevard so I would say it's probably seven miles from the coast I love old California coffeehouse because it's so o'cl Arctic they have really good food there they even have to lotto to start a great place to sit and have a nice tea or a coffee and then finally a Pete's coffee I usually don't recommend chains but what I like about Pete's coffee is the location Pete's coffee is right there at Presi ranch Presi ranches off of Gateway Costa Forte off of Palomar road. It's a huge shopping shopping center three grocery stores around there many restaurants and many are really excellent and a few bars Pete's coffee she is situated right there next to trader Joe's and next to the park and the park for bracy ranch has a Gazebo Abo- and some fountains there's a ton of roses but it's just so beautifully maintained it's a nice place to sit there on the patio patio and just people watch and with our nice weather it's pretty much great year round all right now it's time to talk about brees bars restaurants food and have ron here my husband thinks Ron for helping me on this part of course all right let's talk about wineries because there's some some shockingly good wineries in Carlsbad and San Marcos that you would never guess were here One of my favorites is to plank which which is just in a tiny industrial park in Vista it's right off of Sycamore and La Mirada excellent wine they bring it in they bring in the grapes and they do all of the processing for it make the wine in house and I think it definitely deserves a shout yeah absolutely it's a great quality quality wine they they source from all sorts of places and the winemaker really knows what he's doing so it's just great great stuff in a nice nice tasting room there yeah the tasting awesome closes at eight but if you get your butt in the doorway before eight you can stay there's another winery leffler fleur is in San Marcos like a uh not too far off San Marcos boulevard near the LAS Pozas exits a highway seventy eight and it's another one really nice people great wine industrial park doesn't doesn't look like much but it's a it's nice it's good good wine good times yeah and what I like about both of these places is that they they have painting nights to plank is going to start having it weekly on Saturday night where you can go paint and have a glass of wine and flora I'm not sure they're scheduled so take a look at their website website let's try not wine or beer twisted horn yeah this is this is a great place They specialize in hard cider and mead mead is is wine made with honey instead of grapes just really something different especially loved the decider they do the traditional varieties plus they have a whole bunch of wants at add fruit and spices and all that and they always have something different in the winter they do mulled cider. So it's warm with spices and everything and so great stuff steph curry's so we're only going to cover about three of them because in other episodes will probably cover other ones Carlsbad brewing is one of the newer places that opened up so immensely popular we were there only a few weeks after they opened great food and they're not even they they decided not to even have one of those grand openings because they were already too popular I think it's going to get more and more popular and I also if you WANNA quite dinner at this is not the place to go it's very loud because it's one.

"Locum two things to do in San Diego I'm your host Sherri Manelli he and today we're focusing mostly on North Park I say mostly because we also cover a few places that are probably into south park or normal heights there are several small neighborhoods that can convert in that area so North Park is just a few miles northeast of downtown take a look at our map on things to do in San Diego Dot EU ass you'll get a better sense of where it's located in this episode Sr James and Julian sinks and they'll get a virtual tour of the area will cover the vied parking hotels burris ars restaurants shopping and music I picked Jane's Jer Lean to help me because they lived in that area for about ten years and I know that they're both really passionate foodies and they're honest and they know what they like down there so they gave us plenty of ideas just so you know neither of my guests nor hi are paid all the places that we recommend on the show are places that we are recommending because we love them so there is oh compensation I want this information to be real and authentic so here we go with the show can you tell me little bit about North Park like how safe it is where it is and what else is around it North Park if you like food and ear and not like a massive party scene I would say north parks the way to go if you're just visiting a downtown's always people watching and can get pretty wild but if you want good food good drinks I would say North Park Place yeah no if you're visiting has safe would you say the area around North Park North Park is kinda like any other just outside of downtown city you know you'll come across your homeless people and stuff like that but for the most part it's safe I've never had any issues really walking around at night or anything like that so it's fairly safe everything's really mostly on one St Thirtieth Street is is basically all up and down Thirtieth Street from South Park to north car- everything's kind of connected North Clark is fairly small but it's a bunch of little areas jam packed into one so there's South Park North Park than that goes in to normal height and all of that is kind of linked together where would you recommend people stay there's not a lot of hotel there's a couple none that I would really recommend other than Lafayette off I is is a an older Classic Hotel that's really really nice other than that it's a bunch of motels I would say it's more air airbnb North Park the kind of place to go shopping there's very little shopping it's mostly restaurant there's a cool store called pigment I know that they've opened a couple of other stores in other areas it's kind of a the kind of plants and stationary and pretty cool little store from their old bookstores there's Marietta Antique store here and there are mixed in but for the most most part there's it's it's mostly food and drink parking there is absolute really no parking there's Uber and lift and taxis the trolleys do not come down there if you have a designated driver it's that kind of the way to go and you just park in when an and in the residential areas if you can find parking on busy it's it's it can be almost impossible on Wednesday nights there's a group of breweries in little restaurant it's I ain't there's a total of seven all night they have a bus that goes to all seven of those restaurants in brewery and bars I some paid parking structures there's like one parking structure it's pretty big Parkin thirtieth and university I would I would suggest is like it's if you're aiming this podcast for people who are like staying in downtown area I think the best way to get there the only take like do left or uber as far as like you know coming down from its Anita's people that are not early tell me a little bit about the beer scene I'm I'm a big beer guy though honestly you could probably oh two one brewery night for probably a good two or three weeks now ever go to the same brewery so the end there's always new ones popping up they actually do have a couple of beer tours they have saw they have one that's on one of those big pedal bike cars that fit I I think if it's fake ten or fifteen people on it everyone pedals and there's there's one person taking it off you on the tour steers so you get a workout and you get to drink what are your top three favorite breweries top three favorite one would be belching beaver then there would be modern times and then second chances always a good one too and those are all within while everything's within walking distance but you could everything is probably a three minute walk the in the past me and some friends have done like a a South Park North Park pub walk Beerwah doc or brewery and we'd go to we always had plan twelve but we never made it that many brewing there's a home brewer is right there on El Qom boulevard which is an end of a one stop shop if you enjoy brewing and they actually have a tap room where they have their own beers on tap if you ever had a question about brewing or different types of beers that's where you would go jail you can go in and try just about every type of beer so they have sours and they can tell you everything about them and how to make them and everything so that's a pretty cool fun place to go if you ever wanted to learn about brewing but as far as on top of that go there's there's fall growing there's a big there's bilking beaver rip current Second Chance North Gear Company Mike Hass Modern Times South Park growing there's just the do could just keep going and going and they're all good and they're all past all the time where would you go for food to the burris tend to have food none of those really have food and there's one rip current that has a restaurant attached to them but none of them really have food there if you're the big into just a tap house that has good decent bar food my favorite would have to be Hamilton's tavern which always has probably around forty beers on tap with a insane bottle list that that you'll just they have beers that you won't find anywhere else normal bar food but it's actually done pretty good they have a full kitchen and they'll have like Monday nights is they do like fried chicken sandwiches for the Monday night football game they have this amazing thing called second Saturday which I don't know if we want to put that out into the public but here goes so every second Saturday of the mountains they have a chapter Geico ver- which normally pairs with food normally always pairs with food but they'll bring in a full tap list of a certain brewery and then there resident chefs his name is might will make a full like four course meal and the meals is completely free so you don't pay for any of the food and it's always well done are one of my favorite ones was they had Maui brewing and they had all of their the Maui Beers and they had sucks Ling pig that a couple of other Hawaiian dishes that were just amazing and everything's free so normally they let you go through one time and then just so everyone gets them they'll go ahead and let let you come through if you want more again afterwards after everyone's can they're on their their own share and then it's always they'll have one really special cast that they do five dollars clients which is the it's something you won't ever see and if you do see it it's more like eight to ten dollars a pint if you're not into beer what else can you get there on there there's actually a cider place that is there also just south of belching beaver it is called Bo VACs which is really good they make all of their siders in house it's it's pretty amazing if you WanNa Kinda stay away from the beers but still get something you know Britney bear and something crispin has some good alcohol cont and seven grand which is if you enjoy whiskey it's a whiskey bar they have a couple of around there's one of La but this old speakeasy vibe yeah are there any other cool bars in the area Coin op which is a bar that has tons of video game inside and end outdoor games outside is there a wine tasting places down there the couple different wine tasting at classes there's it's called sips and it's the card based one where you put up some cash on a card and then you yeah and can you it's anywhere from ten cents a little sip a dollar tip so you can you can actually taste creedy expensive wines for pretty cheap so it's it's like you push the button once you get a little out you just gotTa be careful there because Guillermo and he can go real quick if you find when you likes especially if it's more unexpansive one there's actually an urban winery they're called Negoti John that actually makes all the wine in house and all the barrels are there and a bottle there they they crush the grapes there they pretty much everything there there's some really good wine what other kinds of food are there there's about any type of food whether it's quick and easy or sit down fancy it's all in regards there's some of the best tie we think yeah baen tie is very good Thai place you have to get there early or is this the James or you just call it in also you have to like keep calling them till the they cut because they're always busy though it's very small I think there's what maybe three tables inside four tables inside and Ford newly maybe four tables outside for six tables outside the main drag there's called Park Park Avenue Arkan Adams Avenue Yeah so on that street you could literally a tie food Vegan's Food Pizza Mediterranean food food Mexican Italian and everything yeah they have it's a good and actually there's the breakfast place there nick sandwiches and the sandwiches the lady who works in the liquor stores this Middle Eastern lady there's the lefties verges yes it may it may not live up to your standards but left these Chicago Pizza is is a pretty decent deep dish pizza play ace they they they do a pretty good deep dish it's one of the only places around here that around North Park San Diego that I think does assaults relied deep dish pizza are there's some there's some good pizza places down in North Park to pizzeria Bruno at so those are both very good I would say it's more like Italy style kind of Billions Cecilia thing so salient thing pretty decent that's a teacher Bruno and Luigi or more of a down restaurant full pizza how about Mexican food what would you recommend in North Pars I like those their city tacos there's Cantina may well it has they have an amazing happy hour you're five dollar Margaritas and I think they have a plate of three tacos three street Tacos for seven dollars or something like that those are they're really good tacos not not not to mention their Margaritas are really good to Mae Chai think they have a couple of hundred different deke he was on the wall along with MMA scowls ensuring a Tequila and Miscou mood that's where you'd go what kind of fine dining can you find in north park if you want more late we're fine dining there's the contro who can make a lot of their dishes with Kartik crack which if you don't know what that is is an amazing try chipsets made up in North County you may go up drive up every day and they bring a whole bunch of a bunch of slabs of tip down and they make a lot of their dishes with that if you go all the way down by modern times there's underbelly for Rahman and kind of an Asian flare things and then across the street is fairly fancy when you get into smoking goat and wonder North those are all places that are top notch and tiger tiger also that's kind of the more north just north of Belching beaver they do beer they have their own in house brewery along with guest taps from all over the US they also have some excellent food it's kind of bars dude that's kicked up quite a few notches tiger tiger is one of the few places that run I've actually gone to we had their special and Oh my God we were really blown away we're originally from the Chicago area and I have to say it reminds me of oh for music in North Park there's a couple of music venues Lis- stats has music.
