"Entertainment over all the years. So you know, I can't wait until Roman reigns. Is back. I think he will be back. I can't wait until he's back. And and we see the next incarnation of who this man is it's gonna be it's gonna be fabulous. But yeah, you You know. know? Well wishes going out to Roman reigns. And everything that he's going through right now, especially to his family and his kids. You know, there were a few other stories that didn't quite make the list that of course, superman Casey brought up, you know, Brock listeners reign of terror, of course, lesson or staying in WWE big big story think Sammy Callahan deserves some shine in impact wrestling seamy Callahan after what he did to Eddie Edwards. It's pretty rare that a somebody's able to be a true he'll in the internet age and Sammy Callahan was able to do that this year page, of course, having to retire from active competition and becoming a great general manager. We'll see what's next for her. But really having retired from active competition and think anybody would have seen that coming. Ray? Mysterious returning knock them more and Oscar winning the Royal rumble matches. I mean that was a lifetime ago. Let's see Stephen. Stephen are he'll Hiebert said that twenty teen was the year of wrestlers getting called out for their moves. Whether it be for safety, whether it be for realism, whether it'd be for whatever I think a lot of that was happening. You know, there's a lot of. People getting called out on social media across all landscapes. Whether it's social Justice warriors, or whatever it is. And I think wrestling is no different. And you do hear people. You know, we see it especially with women getting called out for being unsafe in the ring. I've said it one hundred times. You know, unless it's something so obvious and blatant. It's not up to us. If a superstar was unsafe in the ring, certainly WWE would not allow them in the ring, you know. Certainly WWE wouldn't let it happen. But yeah, I guess that was happening. Of course. Shawn Michaels return is a big story this year. But because it was just for the one match and it ended up kind of not evolving in anything else. I didn't think it made the top ten. I think P C O deserves some shine on that list. You know, and we'll see what he doesn't ring of honor. But who would have thought that we'd see Quebecer peer in two thousand eighteen returning and doing like hard core stuff in moon sauce off the top rope and whatnot. If you get a chance to see P C O live. He's not human check him out. Kohl Carter underscore Twenty-three on Instagram said the MS not being champion should be on the list. And yeah, I think it is shame that the MS didn't has not ended up in a better spotty really really deserves to be. I hope he's able to step out and shine and twenty nineteen in term. And of course, a bunch of people wanting out Sam Roberts versus the major brothers is my favorite feud of the year. Yeah. Although I was able to get through almost a whole podcast without bringing up the major brothers. Let's see if. Anything happens on the Sam Roberts action figure podcast hosted by curt Hawkins, AC Ryder this week. In terms of twenty nineteen. I think you'd be silly not to think that Seth Rollins is going to have the biggest year of his career. I think that's a no brainer. I think. I think it's a big year for LARs Sullivan, quite frankly, I think large Salvin is gonna show up on raw. And he's going to be good year for him. I think hopefully, we will see a Batista return wrestlemainia. I think different from last time, but Teesta has built up so much goodwill in the year years that he's been gone that Batista coming back right now is a good time for him to come back. And and this is something that I wanted to bring up last week, and I didn't get to. I think in twenty nineteen we will really start to see Mustafa Ali shine. I think twenty nineteen will be the year that everybody starts to see the future potential of Mustafa Ali I get I get a vibe about him. When I see this guy wrestling, it's like. In some ways. It's almost like a young John sina nine in the way..

"Bound for glory impact is doing good paper views and certainly better paper of used and they've done in quite some time. I think the last three are we're good, not like earth shattering, amazing pay per view, right? They're not these pay per views where you go to somebody that hasn't watched wrestling in fifteen years and go, dude, you gotta see what's going on here at impact wrestling. But if you're a wrestling fan and you're looking for something that is not WWE and you're looking for a spot where you can see certain independent talent, you're looking for a spot where you can see guys that are being talked about, you know, Sammy Callahan, Pentagon, Phoenix guy and some of your favorites from previously and WWE John Morrison, or of course, Austin Aries impact wrestling is a is a good alternative. And it's only getting better. You know, it's something that I talked about with Scott d'amore from impact, which is they're doing a good job under the new regime of not trying to be everything for everybody and instead rebuilding the foundation. See most of the time when people take over a company that's like not the healthiest of companies. They try to build on the foundation that's already there. But if the company's not healthy guess what it doesn't have healthy routes so impact. I feel like when I watch it, I feel a company that's rebuilding its roots, which I think is very, very important at this stage in the game. And I see a company that is focusing on what they think they do well and what they can control. They're not trying to seem bigger than they actually are. They're doing small venues, right? Because we'd rather fill up two hundred seats then being a five hundred seat venue that's half full. Let's. Up the two hundred seat venue instead. So they're doing these small venues. They're focusing on the wrestling, they're doing, you know, I thought the. Vignette that they did. First of all, I thought it was. I don't know. I think wrestlers would have a different opinion on match that they did where they pulled the canvas off, the ring, the death match. I've never seen anything like that to me. It looks very dangerous. But as a fan, it was appealing because it was dangerous. So I enjoyed seeing stuff like that. I would love to get the opinion of a wrestler and find out if it really is better or worse. I got worried because I saw the boards moving right, and I felt like if you get slammed on that, one of the boards shifts, you get like the fat on your arm pinch that would kill. I would hate that now. I don't know if guys like LAX are worried about pinching the fat on their arms or even if they have fat on their arms to pinch. Maybe that's my problem. I don't know for sure, but. I thought that that was at least something new different and looked brutal like it looked real right on. I thought that the women's vignette that they did to buy time when they were re canvassing the ring was great. I loved that they're doing these mini movies, you know, I think they should take a stab at honestly, even the bad ones. When you look at WCW and you think about WCW most of what you think about is the n. w. o. Monday nitro the Monday night wars. But if you go before the Monday night wars and you think about WCW what happened in WCW before there wasn't nitro before HOGAN and macho man, and those guys were all there when it was just WCW and they weren't really making their bones off of talent that had made their bones in WWE and it doesn't take long in that conversation to come back to the mini movies that they did. And I think the dusty Rhodes was the one that was in charge. Then that would like the white castle of doom or the white castle of fear, whatever it was in the little person that was. Swimming around and sting invader the amazing corny, cheesy, ridiculous, but amazing. I don't know what it is. I love many movies. I feel like it's at least a stab at being creative. You know, you're, you're trying to develop characters in an interesting lane. I thought I thought it was cool. I thought it was fun, but what got the world talking?.

"I think he'd be great in ring of honor where Jeff Cobb showed up by the way pictures of Jeff Cobb and ring of honoring. That's pretty big. But I think WWE's the place that I want to see Matt riddle. And that's because I'm WWE guy and I think Matt riddle is incredible. So that's what I'd like to see. It really is amazing. You know, we talked about Jeff Cobb real quick. He posted Twitter photos, interim honoring. It really is amazing watching some of the people succeed after Lucia underground. 'cause to me Jeff Cobb, his biggest showcase was Lucia. Underground Pentagon. Biggest showcase was Lucia underground in these are guys that have become some of the biggest stars in the independent. So it's it's interesting story. Number three, we go outside WWE and we talk slam. Verse ary TNA put on slam versity over the weekend. And you know, I've gotta tell you, I think old. Cyrus, dividers, Don callous. Maybe the secret sauce, the TNA needed because the stuff that I heard coming off of this paper view from from fans, it was a better buzz than I can possibly remember hearing from anything in TNA, especially in the last few years. I think the roster is great. When you look at it, I love that they're using Johnny Mundo, Johnny impact, John Morrison, but he's in the opening match. You know it, it seems like, and I think he's incredible. He's been on the podcast before. I'm John Morrison fan, but I feel like so many promotions have used them because they're able to kind of use the same gimmick that he used in WWE. So many promotions have used him as you know, John Morrison from WWE and put him right in the main event. And I think that's the wrong thing to do for your company because it doesn't. Make you stand out, you know, does it doesn't put you in this position of like, oh, my God. Look at the talent that they haven't TNA in instead goes like, oh, TNA got the guy from WWE. That's cool. And you want the other one you want. People saying, look at the talent that TNA has. I've never seen anything like this and that's what they had in their main event. The championship match between Austin, Aries and moose now, yes, these are not home grown talents, and our scenarios did have a running WWE, but Austin Aries running WWE was not a champion. I mean, it was a cruiserweight championship run, but it wasn't a main event run. If anything Austin Aries is is, is still running off the fuel of what he didn't ring of honor of what he didn't TNA before. You know, that's the Austin areas that we're seeing, not the Austin areas that we saw in WWE. And while moose was a star in ring of honor, he was just kind of building Moose's Moose's, biggest accomplishments I believe have been in TNA. So. Oh, I thought that it was a great choice to have that as your championship match. You know, I think Sammy Callahan who I've loved for a long time. I knew Sammy Callahan. When we used to do jersey all pro, he was arrested for jersey, all pro while I was commentating and I've always been so impressed by him. I was always disappointed that Salman crow did not work out next because I was always excited at the idea of Sammy Callahan being in WWE, but Sammy Callahan has become the person that creates a buzz for impact wrestling that semi Callahan's role. Everybody was talking about this match that you had with Eddie Edwards, and he is one of the last guys to really embrace this notion of Kafe eight. You know, the way he talked about hitting Eddie Edwards in that match or the baseball bat in the eye and injuring him. Offscreen was the same way, talked about an onscreen. It was this sort of unapologetic, I'm acknowledging that people hate me for this thing when in reality we don't even know how Eddie Edwards felt about it..

"Think sometimes wrestling bookers promoters don't don't think about enough, which is just sort of try not trying to put a square pegs into round holes just using people with what they do best. You know, if you've got somebody that's a really good wrestler, just let them wrestle. If you've got somebody that's a really good talker. Just let them do more talking. Don't. Don't try to, you know, don't you? There's a billion examples of this like Oscar, you know, like if she's a talker than don't have talk as much, you know, like if there's somebody that's, you know, that's not a very good technical wrestler. It's a really good brawler, just let them bra and you look at the people that are on this show. People like dreamer, like, you know, homicide and Hernandez like Sammy Callahan. That's the style that they do better. And so it makes sense to have them do more of those types of matches. And if you have somebody like an Austin, Aries, you know he's more suited to a wrestling match. You don't necessarily want to do it in that match. So we'll see what they're doing going forward, but I wouldn't necessarily take what they did on this show to mean, this is what we want. This is what our vision for what the promotion is so much as looking out there who can we sign who can we bring in and then what are their strengths and weaknesses and trying to play to that. What do you think somebody who who identifies themselves as an impact wrestling fan would identify as their reason that their an impact fan? Is it the talent that they have right now is do you think that the roster itself is carved out an identity for itself and they are just playing to their strengths or is it something else? Because so much is about brands these days and brand loyalty. There's so much wrestling out there to choose from what is is it the roster than I don't know that a lot of brands out there have have identities, even like once it has like pretty good shows like I, I don't know, like r. o. h. is had identities at various points during its time. I don't know that I'd say our h has a strong identity right now. I don't think impact has strong had anyway, and I think there are a bunch of shows that I don't know that he has a strong at any right now. I think they're just a bunch of shows where if you're a wrestling fan, this is a show you can watch the wrestling fan. I mean, really the only promotions as sort of strike me as as I guess, I guess I'll has. Has sort of an identity sort of because it's been doing the same thing for such a long period of time in new Japan has an identity is sort of a more serious athletic style. In contrast to a lot of things out there and PWG has an identity is sort of a fun alternative, but outside those three promote and I guess, triple as has. Used more of sort of a hardcore styles. But I mean outside of outside of a few promotions, I think most companies right now, even the ones that are more successful, don't don't have that firm of identities in the sense you're talking about. All right. Let's talk again about truecar longtime sponsor of this program. In fact, going on one year, here's some useful car tips. You might not be aware of a coffee filter and a little bit of olive oil king clean your interior, removing excess weight from your.

"Simple item at regular price. I am. I'm no different. I thought it was a a strong show and one of the best the the impact promotions put on quite a while. Part, we're back and Todd Martin, and I will continue our conversation here about slam averse Ray before we move on to the review of the new nitro book, Todd, is there an opening to have your reputation being what this show is largely being identified with which is a more hardcore style of rolling more weapons, more blood, more intensity, more of an ec- WVU is that's something impact can do well enough and can be there thing, or is that too is our wage already kind of seeing that way and it has to differentiate itself in other ways. Well, I don't know how you differentiate yourself. The thing is there's so much product out there in terms of us and right now, and a lot of emotions that are successful, incorporate a bunch of different styles mixing in a in ring, wrestling mixing in brawling, mixing and high flying. I don't know that there's really any way where you can sort of say, this is. This is sort of our were different than anyone else outside of just sort of going overtly anti-death be in that that has that has its downsides. I mean impact is try them in the past. And if you go to hard in that way, it comes across the sort of desperate and and cheap. It's sort of that's that's something that Paul him was able to do very well in the nineties was sort of to hit the buttons that people didn't like about the, you know, the the, the, the behemoth in order to get people to gravitate around you as he alternative. But I mean short of doing that. I don't think there's any real style that you can use to to to differentiate yourself and you know what they did was as good as any. Although I don't know necessarily that I would view it as sort of like a strategy of, oh, this is what we're what we're trying to do as a promotion so much just best utilizing the talent you have. And that's something that I think sometimes wrestling bookers promoters don't don't think about enough, which is just sort of try not trying to put you know, square pegs into round holes, just using people with what they do best. You know, if you've got somebody that's a really good wrestler, just let them wrestle. If you've got somebody that's a really good talker. Just let them do more talking. Don't. "Champion early in the show I mean you don't. Hear that so that made a lot of the difference that. The talents seemed to feed off, of, it it was a little. Hardcore heavy for some. If you don't that's not, what you're into then maybe this paper is not going to be well. Received by you Three different. Hardcore matches but they were the especially the last two with the tag titles and, then Pentagon, junior and Sammy Callahan were both really good and. So I. Gave it a b plus. Overall and that's not like using the old impact wrestling curve at? Just in general it was a very good show with? The fun atmosphere that's really. Good that's a positive for them for sure I think we talk about must watch and the women's division they WWAFL say an impact the two people that I enjoy watching probably, the most if I'm gonna. Watch it as Tessa Blanchard in her. And, just her rise in just to see her get better month-to-month and Sammy Callahan obviously is a. Must watch, what his his act. I it can only work on the independence originally work in other venues he couldn't work in. The Toby w either way he's been going out his business, but I I like those. Two in particular for that company I agree I'll add to that mix I think he and tests are going to, be the ones to really. Watch now because they were both up in the, air contractually at the, last tapings but since then they both kind. Of locked into longer term deals like a couple of years. Each and so I I don't know that you're, gonna see test putting over Madison rain any longer I think now they they're. Gonna feel secure with them and they can start to. Build around those. Two but yet they nice nucleus of. Talent and there's even some they don't like is very talented, and they don't, do much. With him so we're we're we went, from a point where it was like man I got nothing going on this roster to hey there's actually some underutilized people that there's enough depth now I want you to give me Jason in order the. Wrestling, shows the top four Russell's that you enjoy watching the most in. Two thousand eighteen who that's a tough one I guess I would put on that, list because, in part because it's an hour but they just. It's basic. It's easy to follow smackdown Probably comes in at number two most consistently again conduct the two hours compared to Ross three raw it has it still has to be on the. List just because it's their flagship at least until the FOX deal kicks in and it's but it. Feels like a, chore get going three we three hours every week there's some episodes that are..

The cousin of Ray mysterious and mentored by Rame stereo junior, and is from Tijuana has worked all over Mexico and into the US and is a phenomenal high flyer. And you know, when you're mentored by Ramos, stereo junior, you're probably and you've got some of that mysterious flooding. You're probably gonna do pretty pretty good in in the wrestling thing. So he's he's a late add onto this show but came highly recommended. I watch a lot of his stuff and you know, Conan's like the godfather of Lucia. When when he gives the guy in -dorsements it's pretty much airtight, the guy's going to be pretty much fire out there. Man on top of the world heavyweight title fight. Oh, John Hennigan versus low key man. I got a chance as a whole lot of low keys work. Obviously, if he's in his match you full comedy, I've seen with John Hennigan can bring over and over again from his work and WWE too legit right now with you. So obviously like any. Lot about LOKI short. Well, you know, it's great working again with John. We John Hennigan. I've worked with him at WWE winds, John Morrison, worked with him at lutron around. He was Johnny Mundo, and so I don't know if you have to come up with a new name for him in major league wrestling. But so unrest recommended on the whore or Johnny fusion, but will right now he's as John Coogan this keep it straight. But low key is I've known from was twenty years. In fact, the regional Emel w he was a pretty big attraction for us and was part of a stable that had Gary Hart managing him. In fact, our last TV show before we went off the air, low key and the Gary Hart and homicide are in Westchester, New York, hunting me down, looking to pay me a visit of the promoter to intimidate me or do whatever the hell up to so key. And I've gone back for many years. We've been friends for a long time even if we weren't working together. I really specked his work. He he's a no nonsense worker in the ring and. As a professional outside. He's real straightforward. I, he's phenomenal. Always got along great with him and he's he, he looks at the business like a fight. And so he protests his batches, like their fights was work is very deliberate. When we talk about killer instinct. Low key is one of the few guys that can get heel, heat, twenty eighteen real. He'll hall Sammy Callahan's another. A lot of guys don't want it because they want to sell merch or they just, you know, they, they don't know what they're scared of. It locates fearless with it and he can conjure it up just about anytime anywhere. And he's lazy shit in. And that's important. When you're a, he'll there's a certain level physicality for certain type of he'll that you have to have to get heat and he knows that. And so for me to have someone that experienced who's one thirty towels round the world and has wrestled Japan, a lot, Latin impact a just here there and everywhere. It's, it's, it's nice to have that kind of experience. And so he's also moonlighted. As an agent versus wealth. I for some time now. So he's a player slash coach for us. Now we put this in together as she changed driven is more of a technician and Sammy Callahan as yet pretty much pure brawler. What were your thoughts on missing again? Because that's going to be interesting match. Yeah, you know they, they have a lot of history together and they've had some great matches in the past elsewhere. And this kind of a student versus teacher story there because we really did bent tour Shane, and and then the kind of went their own way. And so it's one of those things where it's reality wrestling's reflection of reality when it's at its best, and it's a bit of that in this story and as you, if you watch MLD fusion tomorrow night, eight o'clock pm sports, you'll see how this whole thing kind of goes to the next level..
