"Alone edition. It's thursday june twenty four twenty twenty one that my guests are returning champ. Samm levine and wayne. Federman and andy would hello gentle. Hey doug hi buddy. Even people never know when when when i mentioned you all three at the same time lets me individually and alphabetically. So you don't coming. Let's start with wayne. Federman is here last. Name abed yes. Of course what's going on wayne. Well i'm back going into the movie theaters. I've already seen to motion pictures. Both i believe they were digital. I don't know whether they were wine at the regal theater downtown and the other at. What's the chinese six was the other one. One of them had me did the forehead temperature test. The other one is just like come on in. We don't care you look clean so it's also changing every day like how. How does the forehead test. The forehead tests was not that long. I think it was last monday. Not yeah but that's how quickly things are moving. That place might not be doing that anymore. I know that the temperature checks are really dropping off. 'cause everyone's realizing that that was always like taking your shoes off the tsa. It's only for show really okay. Okay i do have enjoyed i. Apparently i run cold. I think the women. I've lived with can attest to that. But i'd never been to ninety eight i always. I'm always in the low ninety seven so they can't turn your way for that though right now up. Are you're emotionally distant. You can't go said this movie pixar movie. Doing we need to be crying. Three quarters of the way through ten minutes in now with the mindset immediately. You're thinking of the up one where they go to that montage young but also soul the starts deaths and what how right just one the little. Yeah that's somebody dies at the beginning of that whaler wait. Someone dies the beginning of luca. Meyer miss remembering watch rossi fishes in that but if that's what it's about luca brasi story here the to hear the two movies i saw. If you're in if you're not i we can just move on now. i had. I had follow up questions for andy. But i'll go go did wanna know which two movies you saw. So tell us the first one was something called a quiet place deuce and the other one to drop a and and then i went into the movie theater and then is called the sparks brothers which is a documentary ohio. That's where you you had to go to the chinese six to check that out. Abc got them exactly opposite. Okay that was at the regal downtown. That's pretty probably pretty nice single auditorium situation. Ten twenty screening wayne federman was the only person in the theater annual. I wish i'd known. I would have come to that you and it was so i felt like a kennedy. It felt like like your date rape somebody and then paid off local official. It was incredible. It felt so good. You did before. You're one of the only people. I've ever watched a movie with where we were. The only people in the remember security was there security out now the security had to watch it too but Okay so and did you. Enjoy the sparks. Well this is again you know. I'd like to be the guy that knows everything about everything. Not to the level of samm levine but to a certain level and i. I don't even know that band is. I was i. I recognize them from the movie. Roller coaster like i remember in that movie. And yeah i i am i just would they that. How obscure a ban. Is that really everyone. Everyone jump in. You know they're not that obscure they had you know. They had a fairly popular song called cool places that was recorded with jane. Wiedlin cogos arraigned. Rego's were big and you know they just always been at the part of new wave sort of scene and they. Have you know a shift on albums and it's just really influence a lot of musicians but so you didn't think that the documentary was fond. You were just too confused about because you just don't know the ban now i mean i. I didn't know any of their songs. I didn't know that goes live. You need to know the song he every song you hear. You didn't know some point. Thank you thank you. Thank you get into philosophy here Yeah i did. I get your point. I was just. I was at first. I thought is this a mockumentary. Is this really. Yeah because it's got humor in it. It's humorous documentary because they are off scot auburn's in it so it was like where what's happening here okay. So but i realized i was so inspired by their decade after decade creativity. It was really really fun to watch a movie. And then that was it just by myself and bought some popcorn spilled it all on the floor and port some root beer on it. just it was sounding. It was sounding like you're making a case against like you enjoy the movie. Did i know it was more about me. Feeling ignorant i guess in a way just felt like a little bit of a slap in the face like you. You don't go to the movies to feel stupid. Yeah exactly the aberdeen. I'm a jeopardy contestant in this new our i we have to meet our other contestants today. Starting with our returning champion he won on the last episode. I'd say it's pretty evenly co-starred that my guys the guy you play multiple people in the movie so it's kind of like one of those split character type like you know me myself and irene except not jim carey. Wow that sounds fun. And then there's some other comedians in it as well right i think of is in it. Allies in it yet david characters in it yeah And it's on demand now. "Say a number. i'm jay. I'm trying to think in my head if i have any idea And zero is also a fun bid. Sure i'll say twelve names. All right jaffe luring you into his trap. He says twelve names. Just copy me say you copy my strategy. Maybe hurt still bait over. Michael being Should he's a heart throb right. I'm gonna say eleven names all right. Sam bro. I will say ten names you know what the hell nine. What the hell didn't sound like you're gonna say nine as you. Just go for nine nine. Doug i hate to. I hear the clues again. Obviously category name is giving me Nothing well it's not the name but two and a half stars from leonard okay. Twenty twelve is the year it's twist laden and a bit like born light. How many born movies can you name. Jeff i guess there was one from the eighties. And then all of these other ones so six. What was the one in the eighties. I think there was. There's two movies called the bourne identity. Oh really yeah that. It might be a mini series. Yeah so let me change it to five. And what was the last one called. What's the most ridiculous title of them. All jason bourne all right. But there's also there's ultimatum there's platinum the born and he was antebellum born antebellum the born born yesterday. Oh yeah there was born to be wild. Yeah east. la that's my office. Somebody needs to make that born in east. La be amazing where we whose turn is it. It's on me. And i'm racking my brain. You said nine names jeff. Yeah around nine all right. I'll say eight names man. I think. I think i got. I guess you ever guess what movie it is. Yeah well then you probably wouldn't need to many names but just a guest. You might wanna hear something. Yeah let's let's take it down to five names sam. Yeah yeah yeah..

"Fourteen nine and apologies for leaving out george lazenby but come on who can name any other movie. He was in besides the james bond movie. What about the timothy dalton. I liked him of the other movies but his bond movies are up. There is my least favorite ones. How many did you say jeff off as at all the names. You're taking all the names for two names. What do you think san. yeah fourteen. Nineteen ninety six. I hate to ask those clues again. Of course thank you sir. To stars from leonard not impressed. Not impressed did not like it. Okay i misheard that. The first time i mean choose to could mean fair. You know like not you know calls it a yarn and he says it has story holes plenty of them. Yeah and nineteen ninety-six with fourteen performers in speaking roles doug. I am going to say negative three names. This seems very cool. I'm gonna say negative four. Oh wow so you go from ford what are you doing over there man. I'm from dallas sneaky. Play jeff if you had an idea what it was when you said fourteen names. Wow yeah that is really interesting i can. I mean i'd be guessing for the fourth to go. Five is just crazy. Oh man all right geoff tate. Name that movie all right so you now name the movie and in of course anybody who's not familiar with the negative bid means he's got a name the top four people in the correct order from first bill down to fourth according to the listing in letter mountains book which does not always match up with the anything else leonard's choice we see from the last one it doesn't match up with whatever i think it is. Yeah so this is a ballsy play. Jeff right i'm gonna go. What's the movie the rock sean connery. Nicholas cage ed harris harmon. Have you guys get here. my heart beating. There's a lot to choose from. I'm going say my my favorite doomed soldier. Michael bane if i had to go negative for. That's what i would have done. But i didn't trust the dean to so many other characters man. Can you guys hear it thump thump. That is correct home. My god if i if i gun to my head i probably would have said John spencer foresight. Yeah foresight ended up being Fifth and sixth. David morrison than seven and john. Spencer wow six mcginley and then it just goes off the rails from there. Anthony clark is fourteen. He's thirteen hour damn Vittore for lana gots. The coveted fourteen spot As as a team did that. Come to you. Jeff were you just plain strategy. I mean i thought when he said nine hundred ninety six two stars i was like leonard never really likes the movies. I love So it's probably the rock got it. And i knew that was ninety six because it was the last movie i got. I was idead a well. All right okay. So that means that means you have a point. Sam gets to go first. this is the one. Whoever prevails in this one will be our winner today and get to walk around saying that. They're the best. Leonard maltin game player. Wow and then somebody go. You mean king of movies. Leonard maldini and you know man. Oh gee the g litter baltin game gave me a very nice shout out. In the instructions booklet here. Three categories sam mentioned bros. before high hose. Also the aforementioned three to tango or doug loves this movie oh wow. Let's seems very vague specific and probably more likely to be in jeff's wheelhouse since you talk movies with him on the internet's every day so let's go with three to tango right this one. I love this one because it's a it's a category where no one's going to have any idea. Well you'll have some ideas but it's not that helpful as far as categories go read three to tango. The three to tango is movies. That leonard gives two and a half stars perfect. The year is twenty. Twelve leonard gives it two and a half stars he says this movie is twist laden and that it's a bit like born light like the born movies and then he names twelve names. How many can you get it in. Samm levine won't just.

leonard jeff Leonard maltin timothy dalton Leonard maldini george lazenby John spencer doug geoff tate james bond Sam Samm levine sean connery Anthony clark dallas Michael bane David morrison Nicholas ed harris harmon mcginley

"Which is you know not not a documentary about the election. Grandpa versus grandpa. Which i guess none of us. Maybe we'll ever see because we still want to respect robert de niro and christopher walken. Yeah that's why it's number one at the box office. Is this a secret dirty grandpa. no it's not. I think You know. I think once he did two movies with fockers in the title deniro thought. I'm just going to do as many doubles on. Titles as i can get in my filmography. That's why his next film. Coming up is called the luck of the irish. It really should be the luck of the irish grandpa. come on. Doesn't need three grandpa's in filmography. The grandfather part to what purple rain title was able to put together with two different deniro movies. Oh falling in love. something Dammit what was that other title jeff. I can't remember man we do. Sometimes we do three a day. That's true all right so Enough box office report. Let's get into Recommendations if each of you could recommend one movie to watch in this weird happy sad scary time that we're in what would it be. Jeff likes white. Men can't jump because it has a lot of jeopardy in it. It's probably to say yeah. You get some tribeca in there. It's outside of that cheers episode. It's why it's my favorite thing. Back was in favorite movie that the jeopardy is a part of. Do they show more jeopardy in that movie than they do on that episode of cheers. Probably more on. That episode of cheers really. Yeah because he. I mean you get a little like there's definitely more like back and forth again in the white men can't jump is like a montage of her just answering questions like are saying. What is keats what is right and what about in quota clean. What is the quail hog. What did the fish in In cheers they just watch it in the bar. You don't they don't actually have scenes of anyone at jeopardy nor nor would he would. He went to jeopardy twice. Woody went go to jeopardy to watch cliff. And then what he is in an audience for rosie perez as well. So wow why woody. Not the character he woody harrelson went to jeopardy twice. You know what was his name on. Cheers woody boyd. Leading was what he. Yeah but his name was in. Woody and lightning can jump. It was like is bill. Could face billy oil really billy. Yup woody boyd. Billy hoyle all right. So can you recommend a movie sam. Have you seen something lately that you liked. Yes groundhog day. Alex trebek's is also in that featuring jeopardy seen. Wow way to stick on team try. That is a great movie. Though what movie day that. I would recommend there's no jeopardy in it but okay yeah just saying i was just making conversation. I still need you to recommend something. Here is the most no nobody in their right mind. Recommend white. men can't jump all right so check this out guys. I watched memories of murder. It's finally like a god. It's a release all his you in her june buying how. Yeah yeah it got. It didn't have a distributor in america distributor than after the success of parasite neon data was supposed to have a theatrical release in like april or may but of course that didn't happen and now it's out to rant on all the streamers i rented it on itunes and it was really good. It was it was. I liked it memories of murder. Yeah it's bleak. It's a little bleak. I mean it's not gonna it's not gonna make you happy if you're not like if you need something that's up lifting. I could go some other direction with this but it was really well they. They can watch memories of murder and then groundhog day. Yeah they need to snap out of the bleakness. It stars the same guy song ho as parasite it's a really a really good drama series a series about detectives trying to find a south korea's for serial killer. But which name is he going by. Officially now john june or bomb june june hall. I think it's just the difference in how they wear. Where english and korean put their last name. Surname is bon has so that should be like if they switch it. It'd be juno bong in korea but here it's bunk bongino. Wow that's tricky. You've been to korea. Jeff now no. I'm just trying to figure out a pattern but toy because of like why yao-ming's name said yao on his jersey at suzuka said each iran jersey. That's not career. All right never murder on all the streams and groundhog day. Were you know wherever groundhog days are sold. Whenever wherever groundhog days are celebrated dallas somewhere recently is watching twenty five words or less. You'll enjoy this. Sam and mary mcconnell when when told the crew was pucks a tiny phil and she made a face like the word stood. They've never been uttered in her presence her entire life and insisted she never knew that. The groundhog is named punxsutawney phil. Wow i knew. I was really shocked. I am shot. I mean that's an enormous piece of americana the movie groundhog day. Oh it actually came up recently on jeopardy and i was so thrilled that alex didn't give the person credit because the person mistakenly said groundhog's day riots as as so many people incorrectly say and no one in real life as a ground had gay even though in my brain i want to but i don't i bite my tongue every time so very happy to see alex nope and then. Somebody rang like groundhog day. And i was like yeah. It's they didn't ask dummy celebrating. All the groundhogs only satisfying. Because i you know people get on me about the exact titles in my Movie games but it's just like well that's the answer if you're just gonna take something that's close then that's a slippery slope Slopes guys me. Well i was gonna say nordstrom's when people add the s to nordstrom's bothers me as well do i could. I could make a list and of the things that people add as two or take ss off of. I used to really care a lot about when people would say james would but now i just walk away would discuss him at all. I had lunch today rb. Nobody does that. I mean people have lunch at arby's but nobody just calls an rbi. I don't think. I bought my nephew some some gifts at toys. R u toys r. Him him.

"A heartbeat. We thought Jeff and i were talking this morning we are. I said something about how. I had heard that alex actually suggested that the next host of jeopardy should be a woman. Oh yeah he said that somewhere. So we're going to hold him to that. I'm certainly not averse to it. Although i think the fact that a friend of ken jennings came onto jeopardy as a consulting producer about a year ago or so Certainly would lend itself to suggesting that. Possibly they were eyeing ken to take over the mantle. Yeah it's definitely a step in that direction And he. I think he'd be great at it but i also think the world would lose great contested. Because yeah i still would like to see him. Just show off his brain rather than just be the host reading everything off the piece of paper. Another good argument for me. I don't need to use my brain. Just let me just read off the off. The cards suggests it should be ken jennings host as a hostess host. It but does not have cards. We just have to take his word for him. Oh yeah that's all the questions. Yeah kind of like me. When we play last person stanton we just have to work our way through it. Yeah It's weird timing. That they announced that the ken jennings and the other two guys that were in the greatest of all time tournament. That three of them are going to be on a new version of the chase. That show or one guy knows all the answers and goes up against regular people That was going to. I think it's going to be on. Abc that's i mean not that he couldn't handle both jobs if they wanted him to host jeopardy. But it's a you know he's already got a gig Let's look at the box office. You guys real quick. There's an actual box office reported. Will joe dot com Every box office mojo. Every weekend they still are tallying. It up based on drive ins and limited capacity theaters. that are that are open Do either of you happen to know what the number one movie in the country is right now. I do Oh damn if. I can remember the title i know. It's that kevin costner. Diane lane movie called like Let him go. where did you see that. That's number one. Because i got i have got a different answer. Oh okay i think. I saw that on deadline. That said it was number one at the box office for two weekends in a row which had happened a long time. But i didn't click the article. So maybe just charted articles full nonsense because it a new mutants tenant and like a couple of different movies of number one for several weeks more more than two having been seeded ten at one point because they haven't been releasing anything anyway. I mean you know it's all like it's nickels and dimes. The box office report like the like tenant this last week and i think made like like a few hundred thousand dollars here in in the united states and it just it just crossed three hundred and fifty million worldwide so so much for theaters and other countries being closed but number one. According to my source is the war with grandpa..

"Accounts. About seventy meet like they'd been watching every day and then thousands of people who wander and wander what's happening and then leaves. So. It's pretty pretty sweet deal as far as audiences go. Clubs like that like the people that would be that into it just look from the backs Neka in Gaul. You take a CTO make any noise. Right, they're not mad at you for being something different. You don't get to know about their disappointment. Thank you could. I feel like all these streaming shows are like in. Theater it's like sleep no more where you just wonder in your just. Wandering out quietly nobody. Nobody cares. Yeah, it's just it's a lurker is world out there right? It'd be funny somebody drops in the chat or their way out of zoom show fuck you guys they just leave. To everybody or me personally like if they just send it to me. Why don't you different That's one thing we're certainly sidestepping here. People can write comments on itunes or wherever, but you know podcasts are in so many different spots is known like. you know there's no comment area that I'm. Drawn to look at. Get. Annoyed and upset by don't. It seems like sometimes people comment on specific episodes in the reviews section because they don't know where else to leave their opinions. That's always the best. There's there's two thousand episodes of this show there like. Two weeks ago bullshit store. Yeah, Cameo rating is like A. Five stars from everybody every all five serve US except for one guy gave it four stars and he even gave me a pretty positive review. He just wasn't a five star I get it. I don't give five stars every movie I see that I like you know you got to reserve some. You know against the everything's at. Amazing. So But, it brought money. You know I've got four and a half stars the cameo. Only because that one dude. Oh That's that's ridiculous I want. To face doesn't realize what he's doing. Well. It's just like that. You know. The movie out earlier this year where a guy like all great reviews over one guy. So on rotten tomatoes that makes it like a ninety, nine cent of one hundred you know using nationally. Out of hundreds but anyway really playing one game here today. And Yeah. I think. Everyone might have had a gas what was going to happen because except for maybe a partner is is. All Tool Steph we're talking about. The return of classic game from the so called the Leonard Maltin gave. My God. I can't have trouble understanding what Aparna is noise was about. Do a big noise. We would. Just imagine you're doing what your voice overs a master note you know, Hey, do it again but make it vade. Tried to make your voices big. So now the letter mom game is a game we played for years on the show. We even had like tournaments and stuff, and Samm Levine, was always the champion of it and then Jeff Tate had a pretty good run at the game for awhile, and then we stopped playing the game on the show because of several reasons but my number one reason is tired of explaining how the game works tampering money because it's so. Complicated. So that being said Sam please explain to our our. Please, tell her the rules of the letter Malta. Game. Will. You're going to love it APARNA. Name that tune but instead of songs and notes, it's movies and actors Oh. It's like right is that that's not complicated. Doesn't sound come. Yet, no, it's more. More. Wish I. Wish those are all the rules. All you need to know K.. Both sides. Say That first parts people they know I've never seen name that too. I haven't seen it, but I know how it's played. Well How's that possible? It's crazy that you could know something without exceeding. It's right there in the name. From. that. Is using the book. Doug. Greiner Mountain Book. No that sucks. You know that's A. Old Way. I'm not going to do it that way, but you know we used to use the Leonard Maltin APP. But then the APP went away sets another reason the game one way, and then a dude. OUT IN ATLANTA. Hope to me up with he made a book A. All the kinds of information that used to be in the lender mall map for a bunch of movies. So I have to do is go through and just kind of. Pick, and choose what I WANNA use from it for the game, and now that's what might been doing the last few times replayed it. That's what we'll be doing today but go ahead and explain the rest of it to apartment. Certainly more to it than that. Okay I'll do it so. I'll wait you don't do categories anymore you do categories, but you don't explain what the category name actually means. Yeah. Give whoever's going I. Three categories to choose from the. They're vague the heart to not hard. You might have a pretty good idea what category is going to be but then when you take a category that's Okay. So whoever's turn it is gets to pick from one of three categories and they'll usually have pretty silly names that may or may not actually correspond with what the category truly is. and. So then Doug will read He'll tell you the year of the movie. And then he'll give you brief snippets from Leonard's review that are usually not terribly helpful. And then he's GonNa Count up all the names that are listed as cast members underneath a review. And So let's say it has nine cast names So he'll say nine names and then you whoever chose a category gets to make the first bid and so you're bidding on how many of those names you're going to need to hear. To, be able to figure out what movie he's talking about. But the catch is you're going to get those names from the bottom of the list to the top. So the only way you're gonNA hear like the Star of the movie is if you bid all nine names and then whoever goes after you says name that movie and challenges you to them name the movie hearing all names if you say seven. Names and the next person says name that movie then you're not GonNa, hear the top to build stars in the movie. So it creates a bit of a challenge there. But if you make a nine name bid out of a total names in the next person, it would be a bad strategic moved to say am that movie..

"Cheating us. It was doug rules but there was also there was a second title that you were wrong about two right. Yeah I think so. Yeah I was wrong a couple times but nobody knew like yeah. Nobody knew and also it was not intentional so low. Well that's part of the fun to me. Is that Q? Imagine winning a gold medal in Olympics and everybody knows well see the couple ties. But she didn't know she wanted to give them back. That was the thing that they gave me was a bottle of bearish avid swine. I will give it back to your guys you can have. It doesn't chow meters. Could it's I? Was that wind if I were you Because I know who you're talking about what you say. They gave me a bottle of medicine. Do Clark was that the Michael Chain Reminded what the question was. What were we Nicole Kidman and also the GAL who I picked? She had a bottle of manage Schevitz associated with her name tag. Because at the Christmas show it was. I picked the Schindler's List to which I didn't mean to do but anyway for Christmas. That wasn't intentional. But yes so. I walked off stage with a bottle of Manischewitz than I will give that to. Whoever wins today how about when when we're out of Corinthian you can have a two year old bottle of not listening? You know how hard it is to get Manischewitz in New York. Clark right especially in these tough times. It's the worst all right well. What's matter everyone else's in l. a? Very straight cares. Yeah you're you're you're currently ahead of everyone by three hours three hours into the future. Could you let us know? Is there anything we should know about? That's going to happen within the next three hours documentary. But that's already happened History but Michael Biehn there. Michael Biehn SIS NOT A. Patrick is though no John. Patrick is nowhere near as much fun to say as be Michael Leear remould. I prefer his brother Sean Bean. It's crazy both of them. Have the same of Middle Baby. What it is it's has. Oh yikes people aren't going to be on this. Podcast has been who needs okay. So we're just GONNA we'll chat about movies at the end if there's any time leftover in the hour so but right now we're just gonNa jump right to it. I'm GONNA say look again. Have you ever had a situation where things went alphabetically? Grateful that you are all the way at the other end of the alphabet while now but I think that phrases right rules might be a good time to have your name be at the end of the list. Oh yes because you could dollar the shit on a so much a so so maybe today will be day occurred. I love it. Sam Yes here. How long is it the running the combined running time.

"Ask Jesus Christ to God. That was Doug I just got the I. I don't know how you feel about the semi just got A. I had a poster of jeepers creepers. I got when I did that. Were just twenty years ago now in my closet. I just moved with his new house and I thought I should get some of these posters framed and so I have it now. I just got back from the store. I have it and I feel it kind of. It's one of the things that I have off Decorative things that have been a little Dushi for having. I just don't know what to do with it. It's a nice looking poster but it's also obviously will just era. Ghent maybe to have no. I think you're looking at it all wrong and Case in point I'm doing this podcast from the building in my home. I call my office or the room of my own. My call the office and it's the only room in my home. They're everything on. The Wall is a poster of stuff that I did all. But it's a specific room. Sam Yes I keep everything into one room that way. I'm not it's not at my house is not a shrine to me just my office. Where like Kim Creative? It's it's like a little samm Levine. Museum Yeah Yeah well it's funny you know He also uses that room as a bathroom and strangely the second worst reason you know what I mean. It's only the second reason to not go. Okay so You know what I really am looking at right now. Are you like at the show this year last time when I believe did it? It's I have these still frames. A friend of mine is was her idea. She From the scene Annie Hall with the subtitled scene. Where he's first song. Diane Diane Keaton. You're saying which looks like naked. But they're talking about. They're just showing the subtext of what they're talking about. So each one of those frames friend of mine have frank from. I put him in this long hallway line and I assume it was in the background of something. I did instagram a couple of weeks ago and somebody on instagram. I was so disappointed in myself on instagram said. Oh is that your any hallway? So yes so good.

"How many names do you think you need to identify the movie right? But he's going to give you the names in reverse right from the the lowest credited right smallest role to the lead roles you were able to sometimes bit outbid your your fellow contestants by going to negative numbers right when I already feel like I know what the movie was and so then I would name the movie and then I would start going in correct order from the top of the list. So if I say reservoir dogs to you I would. I would feel very safe in saying negative one. I would feel feel pretty safe and seeing negative too but beyond that then it starts to get weird I would say obviously Harvey tells got to be number one and I'm guessing Tim Roth was number for too But you never know I would say you never know with Leonard because sometimes You would go in an in order different than the opening credits orders. Sometimes you would veer towards the closing credits order which answered the very difficult question for you over the years of where do you put the and credit. That's right and I just I did that arbitrarily right because if it's and Robert Redford exactly. A Robert Redford Renan noting him last. Put them last right. You'RE NOT GONNA put him eighth name right and I are friends at IMDB. Believe believe in using in order of appearance right which I don't favor well we order of in credits listed order. That's right that's right so so they will. They'll do it in whatever order. The studio has is sometimes the studio will do in order for. PS So in order of appearance means that the first name you see see and I'm DB listing will be woman grocery stig exact. Exactly what we want. It's not Jennifer Lawrence Right. It was top billed than the movie. It's woman and Grocery Eastern right. Then cashier right. Fewer movies do that nowadays but it was. It was commonplace in the in the eighties and nineties. So That's why arbitrarily take Robert Redford and give him like third or fourth billing sure In a movie where he had an and credit right When I see I saw a movie last week that had three and oh the the Goldfinch oh has three or maybe four and credit boy? Nicole Kidman is an and credit credit really. Yeah Yeah because she it's IT'S A. It's a good supporting role supporting role. Okay all the at least three of the principals in the movie get that kind of credit. which would have driven every- all of us crazy? Yeah but it is an amazing facility facility that you have for remembering this and you corrected me in when we're still publishing the book. You corrected me on Superman oh right. Christopher Superman S. because I- incorrectly listed Christopher Reeve I well I mean. He said to me well Marlon Brando got top billing injuries Hackman. Yeah and then it's I. It's funny of all moves. You mentioned. I watched that last night. Oh my for my DC job And Not only is Christopher Reeve build below Brando and Hackman it's Brando Hackman and then such and such studio presents Superman and then Christopher Reeve a Richard Donner film starring Christopher. I was only I was only in the seventies. But no if you think about Batman and Robin from nineteen. ninety-seven Schwarzenegger is built over. George Clooney. He's back man he's well. How can you not be top bill? Well well. When you got Schwarzenegger Schwarzenegger and his agents play hardball? I guess he's is going to be top billed. Stay cool every seen a chill out. Chill out every hilarious man you know what. Kill the dinosaurs the ice age. That's by Lord you've also done like drunk history. Yeah you are very I said to you before we started the tea. That for me. If someone doesn't know slash hasn't worked with you or Clifton Collins Junior they don't exist is how now I just. This is a this is a fellow here made a guest appearance on that so raven this is true. You know you have a bra on you. Cut a broad swath the I I do indeed world of Showbiz yes. The the bread and butter of my career has probably been a guest during roles on television shows and so when someone says do these conventions Oh what have I seen you on in terms of guessing roles. I'd say every show you've ever. Oh that's right. Oh it's it's it's especially if you were watching in the in the `oughts yes yeah and then I always also like to throw in every show. You've never heard of every show. That was one one season and done I was on. That is a longlist. Yes yeah like drunk history. I know you've done before comedy game. Every time I see a photo of you someone I go of course Sam knows that person of course he does. Well that's what I tell people when they when they ask for you know when young people say oh I wanNA move l. a. and start attracting. What's your advice and my advice is always the same which is don't give up because the longer you stay here the the more connections you will make and I mean some of the best jobs I've had in? The last ten years did not come from auditions. They came from connections. That and I may during the first ten years you're in you're in the the wet hot American summer. Oh yeah which is great. But I'll talk about a cast. Yeah ridiculous thank you. That really is incredible. Oh those comedy show alter and David Wayne have gotten more mileage out of that. They should have Than anyone within possible. Yeah and that actually is my first film but in voice only is the original. What Hunt American summer off-camera voice? No I I was given the task tipplers. Little brother done. I was given the task of re dubbing dubbing the dialogue for one of the on camera actors who plays a camp. Dj of the Camp Radio Station so a large part of the time when you're hearing his voice It is off camera. You just hearing him supposedly over the over the radio But then he does have a whole bunch of scenes where he is on camera and I auditions for that role by sending VHS tapes from my home in Los Angeles to David Wayne in New York back in the summer of two thousand or earn not even as a spring of two thousand and ultimately I. I sent him a series of tapes. I'd send him one he'd call me and give me notes make another and I think we did that three times and then and didn't happen but then he called me six months later and said Listen Man Something works great. Some of it. We're having some issues with. Can I fly light in New York and maybe just heavy dub some of these lines and I thought it would just be a handful of lines but I get to New York and I realize it's an entire role that is largely on camera Alma. I feel very bad for the young man whose voice I was dubbing To my knowledge he he's doing just fine he's gone on and acted in plenty of other things but but still jill that was for better or worse my first movie and so then I did that again when they did the first net flicks Redo of that series First Day of camp right was a prequel series. I came back and voiced the young actor who they got to do the a prequel version of the Camp Dj and then when they did ten years later at long last. Got To play onscreen Artie. I really it was about time was sixty seventeen. Sixteen Year Journey. That was well worth it. Four wild and then you also. I'm very proud. You do some really incredible charity work. Oh and I. I love that you do that again. Wissam phenomenal Nominally I believe me the charities that they let me be a part of that to help them Raise money Yes I think you're going to the big slick. Kansas City charity. That I've been a part have now for ten years Charity itself No. I've been a part of it for nine years. The charity is ten years old. I missed the first one. I'm sorry to say But that that is a charity in Kansas City benefiting children's Mercy Hospital of Kansas City. which is truly one of the most noble noble organizations? I have ever known. They will treat Pediatric cancer free of charge They are doing experimental Therapies he's and procedures there and they are largely philanthropic funded so this charity is a very important part of their ability to function function as well as they do and the five guys who's charity. It is all Kansas City. Boys Paul Rudd Jason Today. Kiss Rob Riggle Eric. Stonestreet and David and these are wonderful guys and they every year in June they gather up their idiot. Hollywood friends and they get us on planes lanes and we fly into Kansas City. And we do a whole weekend to charity stuff with the Kansas City royals We D- We played the sprint center. This year with this big show I I mean they have amazing amazing people who come out and support this charity. We visit the hospital. We visit the kids we hanging out with the doctors and the nurses and the families and and it is so meaningful to all of us because we know where this money is going and Latin. This last year loan raised two and a half million dollars every year on weekend. Oh yeah the last several years we've raised nearly two million. I think the last year and nine we raise two million year eight. It was maybe any one point seven. I it's been over a million dollars at least the last five or six years and the videos that come out of it and all of you are having such a good clearly such a good time or you're just great actors Info. I'm just in the best spirits and for the best possible people. 'cause you do other charity work too. But that's that's a big one that so Worthwhile something I wanNa make sure lots of people know about. Oh thank you I think a big slick KC Yeah Dot. Org is the website and you can donate year round G Sam. It's been so nice is having you here all talking about all the stuff you are part of and have been part of and you're a good storyteller Tabu. Oh thanks makes Lynyrd yes you are yes you are. I mean you know not everybody has the ability to sort of take you into the Mo you took to that location you did. We were in good. That's what I aim for. Yeah well it's been a pleasure to have pleasure is always online. I adore the two of give you more than you know. Let's go on a road trip. I don't care I don't care okay. And Paul Higher the bus okay. I don't put him in charge of anything. It won't end was good advice. Thank you but.

"And they basically said Kathy Pudding Jessup on the stand when he didn't really we have firm evidence to do so when he when caffeine knew he was going on a fishing expedition that would have ended so badly for Kathy. He would have have been court martialed he would have been disbarred. He would have spent the next several years in In military You know a police Holding branding it would have been real real bad for him So I'm GonNa throw you something we were going to take back to inglorious okay all right. You've had experience very few people relatively speaking to have had. You've been directed by Quentin Tarantino. I haven't tell us about how to care. Oh you know you're trivia yes. Tell us about what he's like on the day on the set Quinton is and I. I will tell anyone this. He is the mad genius if you sat down Alan and you thought your perfect vision of what is Tarantino like onset when he's frantic and directing. It's everything that you would expect. He is Giddy. When he is on set he is a kid in a candy shop every single day? He's there and he brings this infectious factious energy to everyone else Our first day actually long before our first day we got to do about two full weeks of rehearsals on this movie which anyone who knows the film business that is pretty unheard of because that means the studio is paying for everyone to be there and you are not rolling a frame of film but Clinton can get that so he wanted to weeks of rehearsal and we began. Those rehearsals with a table. Read where he assembled everyone in the cast on on a big sound stage along this giant series of tables because he wanted to hear the script read out loud all is one and he opened that the by reading from a book by Joseph Mak- wits about filmmaking. I don't remember the name of the book but there's a passage in there where he talks about Ever since the first caveman took a bird feather and stuck between their butt cheeks and squawked around and we have had storytelling and we have it has evolved with us as we've evolved as a people but at the end of the day no matter what the technology is we are all cavemen with bird feathers sticking out of our butts and And he said that is how I go into every project project. It's all about the story we wanna tell we are storytellers. That is what we are on this earth to do. Tell stories and I need to know I know that all of you have that same level of passion that I do and that all of you are going to give me one hundred percent of what you are capable of giving me between action Shen and cut and if I ever feel if I feel for a second like you are not giving one hundred percent you are free to get the F.. Off Off of my set he didn't say F. There and you know and he said if you feel like you're you're the kind of guy wants to phoned ended in one day if all your stuffs off camera the doors over there. This is not a place for casual acton. I want everything from you all the time. And why because we love making movies he would say that onset thirty times a day you know no after the end of a take. We've been working on for two hours or we're doing take after. Take after. Take get it just right. He would say that was perfect absolutely perfect. But we're GONNA do it one more time. And why and then in unison everyone is required to say because we love making movies vs and and that's that's one of many things perfect. Let's got it is infectious. And that's how he he transfers that infection of how much he loves being on set and loves getting to craft stories to everyone else there no matter what their job is with the everyone is excited as Quinton to be on those sets. And do that. And I'll give you one more great story about his actual directing style So one of the first real times you see the bastards inaction we've got We've got those Nazi soldiers In that ditch. We've got him at gunpoint. It's right before for a start. Poor Sergeant Rachman meets his end to the baseball bat of Donna wits spoiler alert. I sure at the movies ten years. Yeah exactly in so That seem was much longer in the script. We shot a much longer version but understandably things get cut in movies so the That scene sort of starts wear or in the middle of the scene That's where Brad Pitt elder rain says to me. Hey Hershberg once you send over that. crowd sergeant. And that's sergeant. Richmond played by the magnificent Richard Samuel and And so he's on his his knees and I've got a gun on him and a rifle at his back and he says senator of that crowd sergeants and then I lean over and say that. Thank you cupcake. And doesn't budge. A my Basham in the back of the head with her with the butterfly rifle and he still doesn't move and then I grabbed him by the hair and he yanked him up to his feet and he turns around and he's supposed to look at me and you know I have this. This gun pointed at him. And I say when the sergeant says Moo or when the lieutenant says move you move and then he stares at me and then he walks away and man you know how the rest of the scene plays out so we go to do that. in the wide In the camera is up on the top of the ridge of the of that ditch and Quinton is behind the camera. So he's not down there with us he's he's a considerable. It takes several minutes. Because you've got to go around this thing and climbed down there so we did take the first time and it happens basically just as I described it and then quincy cut cut cut and ninety seconds later he comes running down there and he comes over to me and he puts his arm around me and pulls tells me away from everyone he goes. Listen man listen. Listen you're not a big Guy Okay and I know you know that and you know when you're in your soldiers know that and Rach Shman knows that okay and not only. Are you not a big guy. You're a shoe. You're an American Jew. This guy is a Nazi he wants is to eradicate your people from the face of the earth and you are insulting him. You're calling him cupcake. You're hitting them with your gun. You are yanking on his hair. And when he turns around and stares at you the only thing in the world stopping him from killing you right there with his bare hands is the fact that your holding the gun and he's not and even if he reached for the gun he knows there's eight other guns on him he's Never GonNa get out of there live. That's the only thing stopping him. So I need to know from you. The you want him to to reach for that gun. It would be your best day if you could insult him enough and stare at him condescendingly enough that he dares to reach for the gun so you could blow a hole in his chest. I need to feel that from you. I said Dude you. And then he goes over and he pulls pitcher decide and then he talks to him for three minutes and I have no idea what they're talking about and then he says okay. Okay okay nobody talks. Nobody talk position. I go back to your first exposition. And then he runs back to the top he says add action and then we do the second take and this time I pull him to his feet and he turns around and the two of all of us stare at each other. And say when the lieutenant says you move you move and he stared at me and he's not moving. Am I poke him in the chest with my rifle and I looked at him and I say what the for you GonNa do go over to the lieutenant and he stares for a few more seconds and then he readjusts rests. His jacket walks over any goes in front and then the rest of the scene plays out for a few seconds and then quit scripps got. That was brilliant. Amazing until then I walk over and I say Richard. What did he say to you and he said Oh well he said a lot of really bad things about how the Nazis felt about the Jews and and then any said that if I felt like I could grab that gun from you if I felt like? You didn't mean it that you wouldn't really kill me that I should try to grab the gun from you And then that would be the scene and then we rewrite the rest of it after that. Yeah I mean that's unbelievable that's electrify. Who who else is getting away with that? As a director who else has the ability to craft and a scene between two actors actors without having them talk to each other like that and so. That's my that's my favorite Quinton story about him as a director man. It's a good one. Thanks it's it's a good one on what a what a memory. Oh well to cherish. Yes no that one. I One of these days I'll figure out what to do with it but I kept a video diary. Oh my That I recorded on my laptop every night while we were we were shooting and some days. I've watched those videos and they're rough. Because you can T I can tell I. I've been awake for twenty two hours by the time I get back to the room. You know shooting all day. My eyes were bloodshot. My Voice Hoarse and I'm just trying to hit like the big AAC things. Oh and this happened today and oh and somebody told this great joke at Lunch and Oh my guy was one. He was a person. You'd never told a joke. The entire run of the show was Krueger and and And and we all love the joke so much and I never wanted to forget it. Listen for people who never heard of or never ever played the Leonard. Maltin game I'm saying this in a third person kind of right. It's the name of the game happens to share your name. That's the name of the Game Benson invented for his podcast. Douglas Movies I want to give people a glimpse of or at least a sample of your Incredible abilities very very sweet. So if I say reservoir dogs to you now if we were playing the game right what we would do is you would bid on. How many need its name that tune tune right but instead of songs and notes it's movie titles and actors right except that when you bid on the name's Doug would say all right Leonard `less eleven eleven right cast members in his review for this movie?.

"Wow all right. That's built up. I'm sure the payoff. I really hope people who are who are who are willing to do the homework. And look that up. I think it would be worth it to them. Now Jesse said that you also had been working with the USO Almost the USO. It's it's a company that is like the US so it's called Navy entertainment Less less name recognition and the USO but equally important and And so they They are in charge of booking entertainment. And what have you for all of our brave men and women overseas stations all over the world and so my pal our Pal Thomas and Nicholas Also Tony Henry Ron Gardner rookie of the year. I wish we're not we don't know each other. You don't know I thought for sure you guys did you would think but now well I'm GonNa fix So Tom and I know each other from longtime now and back earlier this year he got booked through navy entertainment to go. Do some some some entertaining down in Guantanamo Bay naval base there and they wanted They asked Tom if he could maybe get get another American Pie. CAST member to come with him. They would screen the movie for the troops they would do a fun. QNA maybe we'd do some Trivia We we do a assigning we take pictures with everyone. Oh shaving it somebody else from the movie and he could not get anyone else from the movie willing to go down to Guantanamo Konamabaye with them not because they had any aversion to Guantanamo Bay but because that naval base specifically is notoriously difficult to to get in and out of specifically out of. Hey They they don't allow civilian aircraft in and out of there So that it has to all be military chartered aircraft with civilians cleared on it and they only allow so many of those a week so to go there the earliest earliest you can go is i. You have to go on a Wednesday or a Thursday and then the earliest you can leave is Tuesday. So it's more than just oh will fly you Laureus Guantanamo much. It's more than double fly you in. You'll do the show will fly out. It's a commitment. Yeah and Lucky for him. I wasn't isn't doing much that so he asked me. Hey Man do you wanna go. Maybe we'll show not another teen movie after American Pie You know I'm sure the troops will be just as happy to see you send Schuermann. That sounds like a great job. I'd love to do it. And and so I- accompanied him but the people that navy entertainment either. Didn't get the memo or refuse to acknowledge the memo. Because we were brought in as Thomas and Nicholas and Samm Levine from American pie and so much so I they gave me these little cards. These little five by seven cards. That had my picture next to American Pie August so that I could sign for the troops so we decided on the flight down there. I said if anyone asks just going to say I played stiffler younger brother. Yes because because then actor was Eli Maryland Thal and he was terrific. But I'd be willing to bet. Most people could not tell the sport if they didn't know in the first place so I I I came out ahead on that bit. Yeah when people like Oh we. Would you play the movie stills younger brother Oh man yeah cool man that you can make you. Yeah but you had you had one hell of an adventure down. We've resolved zing and I will gladly tell you so. We had this brilliant million luck where Our first few days. We had many things to do but then we had kind of an off day and so the the the navy people give us a a chaperone and so she had her own vehicle on the on the The base and so. She's sort of driving around showing us all. The you know interesting sites like you know hundred year old lighthouses. and Oh and here's the barracks and there's you know old camp x Ray which was where right after nine eleven they brought. All those detainees detainees to and it got shut down quite notoriously. Shut down And so We're we're sort of wonder around seeing all this very safe a visitor stuff. And then we run into the third in command there A really great guy named Nick Messina and he sees us and he it Kinda recognizes us and asked. So what are you guys up to. And we say our just getting the tour from or Navy entertainment chaperone and he says oh well Because doing like an hour I got free time. I could take you on the VIP private tour so we say Nothing tell us one where to meet you. So that an hour later we Hook Cup with him and then we're in his car now and we roll up to an area that has every sign in the world saying keep out turn away. Don't even bother and we roll up to it and the MP's are there and he just says you know these guys are with me. Yes Sir right away. They pull that gate up. And then we go into the totally private area area of Guantanamo Bay we got to see these untouched virgin beaches that they have there where. I think I'm getting this right. One of Columbus since ships docked there before they got back on the ships and went up further to the mainland We saw the actual Ground where the The civil war happened. The Spanish American rather happened Where the Americans can took Guantanamo Bay from this vanish Because it was all about a well wherever controlled the fresh water well controlled Guantanamo Bay. And so there was a battle there that ensued and he learned all this amazing history about how they were Essentially using semaphore to relate to the troops on the ground because the Spanish fighters started dressing in American army uniforms so that the snipers snipers from afar wouldn't know who to shoot man and so then the guys on the ground or identifying them and then signaling to the guys on the hill it was quite a battle and I knew nothing about it now now I mean granted. You don't have to go to town of Mobile. Learn that but for me. I'm always going to associate that with being there being on the actual area where that battle was taking place and and then the real dark one was. We saw a the cemetery. There and the cemetery is full of Cuban `exiles who in the nineteen sixties in the early nineteen sixties when the gates were opened between Guantanamo Bay Naval Base Cuba. And all the people that worked there were Kuban who lived in Cuba when it started to get real bad and Castro was people who worked there. Out of their homes and interrogating irrigating them. What expecting them to have some sort of American military intelligence that they could just hand over It started to get real bad and there was a lot of talk. I think they're going to close those gates. They might close those gates and so family members who had family who worked there they said. Don't come back go into into work tomorrow and tell them you want to stay because it's bad here and we want you your your young son. We want you to go and not have to deal with what we're dealing with right now with this horrible regime and so they did hundreds and hundreds of Cuban exiles lived on the space for the remainder of their lives and a a lot of them were given the opportunity to leave the base and go to the US and and live a life there and they said No. My family is on this island. I grew up on this island even though so I can't leave the base and go see them. It's it's important to me to know I'm on. The same island is them and so they live the rest of their lives due in. They made their own little community on the base and so many of them are which is American territory is American territory. And it's one of those things where it's something like the lease he's agreement that the. US has with Cuba. It says something like it's an American territory but The US courts have sovereignty sovereignty. or I might be reversing that but whatever it is it and it alone lives in this perfectly gray legal area which is how how they are able to operate to the Prison that have their. We did not go into the prison. We saw the prison from afar. I couldn't tell you anything about it other than So after the horrible stuff that happened to Camp X-ray they made a new prison where they were keeping all the detainees and then I guess several world years ago You know an international organization came in and looked at it and said I don't know these facilities. They could be better so the. US spent a lot of money me and built a brand new state of the art holding facility and they transferred all the detainees over to that and it was built right next door to the old prison so now the old prison risen is where the military made their barracks just in case anyone's wondering how that goes if you're in the service and right tell that story to people are in the service they all say yup sounds exactly right. Yeah how many servicemen and women are there currently. I believe there's about a two thousand or or no. I think it's more than that. I think it's what do I think it's two thousand servicemen and women and six thousand total is the amount of people living there because all their families many of their families live there with them and there are people who just worked there who are not in the military. So there's about six thousand people I believe they're at it's most right after nine. Eleven ten thousand people Service there. It's forty five square miles. It's a lot bigger than you think. It is wow wow adventure it was. It was an adventure for lifetime. I'm so grateful to time. I'm so grateful to navy entertainment for inviting US and and running into a Nicosia. I Want I want to say commander I I you know. What if he's not a command given that's all right? He because he was a submarine corrine commander before he stationed on land at Gitmo when he'd been submerged for like seventy one days and then he comes up and they say yep okay. You're getting re-stationed. He's now he's getting all. I have been in the ocean. Yeah under the sea. Those guys they love it it is a it is a different mentality. The submarine people. I don't know how to I don't know I was here to bring it back to movies. I got the the biggest kick out of talking to a command scene about the hunt for Red October. Because that is the extent of my submarine knowledge. And so I said you know. Have you ever done an emergency blow. And he said Oh yeah. Those aren't not fun. That's when you are basically at the bottom of the ocean floor and as fast as you can you gotta go to the surface purpose and you're not allowed to do it now as a drill every more than once every eighteen months or something because you can get the Ben Sira Yes that's why scuba divers have to come up slurry slowly. Yeah but you know. Sometimes there's a problem for vessels or your evading something and you've got no choice. And so yeah they they did like A. I'm going to get the numbers wrong. But like you know a four thousand foot Rise to the surface in like eleven seconds. I'm sure that's wrong. It can't be that fell. Let's say thirty seconds. We're spending too much about real life. I'm so sorry but that's the thing that happens in one hundred October and I wanted to know what in that movie Israel and then I got to meet members of the Jag Corps and so on behalf of Kevin Pollack said. Let's talk a few good men I wanted to know what's real what's you know. What was he fudging?.

"None of you could have foreseen that it would have the staying power absolutely to have no. I mean I knew it was good because because I was a TV watcher. And so I remember reading the pilot script even before I had the job I remember reading it and thinking and this is so good I would watch the crap out of this show and and so when we were shooting it to. I always got the feeling what we're shooting is just it's so good and And so I didn't think it would have the staying power twenty years after the fact that it does. I just thought up people will talk about this however however long it goes on for like a good show but t to for to still be as popular more popular yeah considerably more twenty years later. That's something if it had been that popular would have continued and also it doesn't hurt that. So many of the main cast have gone on to become big big stars. You gotta be a record honestly to have that many people in the cast be successful and working. Oh yeah because I don't I mean for those uninitiated. See how we go. Seth Rogan James Franco. Linda Cartolini Jason Segel. Busy Phillips Martin Star John Francis Daley and me those rewrite all those your eighth main casts Joe Flaherty and Baker of course now and not to mention all all of our amazing guest stars. Everybody and every everybody was on that show. I mean every single one of you is successful and working as an actor every single one yes it is in some two more wild successful degrees than others. But I'm not complaining. I'll get has been twenty years and I've always had work and I'm amazing Lee Grateful and and no Martin has been on numerous series one after the other after the other and he says yeah and John Francis Daley. He is writing. Jonathan Goldstein John was on bones for years but now they're very successful writer directors and that makes me really. I've always liked him. He's one of those people just had a lovely lovely way about them And so seeing what he's been able to do behind the camera. It's exciting I. I'm very much as you know. I'm very much a cheerleader. And and but it's because I I love people who are creative and I love seeing people who are talented. Do lots of different things. That's part of what I think is. This is incredible about us. Just how many different kinds of things you do because we'll know you're right near DC universe hat but you're on the show daily now indeed which which our beloved friend Veronica Baker who was on the show with her dad. Rick Baker for Father's Day episode which was so much fun you know. That's with her. And so there you are. You're doing that And still everything else. Yes like the hence the business. Yeah well yes the dirty secret of DC daily is we take them mall in one day. Yes well so do the days shocking. Four days of the week free to do other things But no I love being a DC daily because at long last. I'm being paid to talk about all the nerd stuff I was talking about. That is a revolutionary. Sorry yes it certainly is characterized that way in this life. I have won the lottery eighteen times. Plus well good for you. Well you've earned it and you deserve it. Well thank you you work with John Patel Show Jesse was just crazy about called Wanda Oh undeclared also also a brilliant really isn't done. Yeah that that show was also ahead of its time could not find the right audience at the time and it was so funny I thought it was one of the vest takes on college. which as you know? I'm very familiar with No I got to do two episodes of that show and they were two of my most favorite episodes of television elevation ever done. It's another one like you say it's so good and it so well done and it's like a soon as I liked it. I always have that fear. All this is great. I'm I'm GonNa Kill it art. I Like I love the show. It's going to die but that's at least though it lives on. I mean nowadays with Youtube and everything else you can find stuff that is part of why freaks and Geeks is the phenomenon is it still exists. It does it exist for a long time the only way to get it was on DVD in the mail but they also elaborate special edition. All we did in the fall of two thousand Yearbook Style ooh Presentation Yup in the fall. Two thousand three All the cast and creators and everybody got very involved and we for months did audio commentary commentary tracks and we pulled out old pictures and Gabe Sachs is the MVP of that Writer producer Gabe Sachs Took so so much behind the scenes video and and photos and those so many of that is is what's included in all the special dish out. Santa would have been for him if he had done that for. Show that no one cared about yeah. Yeah and that's and that's what people will say to me. Oh you ever get sick of people telling you talking about freaks and Geeks and I was saying no because I'm really proud of it. I know how good it was And then I won't use an example show here because I don't want to put anyone down but I would say you know it's not like I was on some forgettable forgettable ninety s Sitcom. Yeah but I know was garbage but people still like it and I have to pretend that. Oh No I know how good it was No I'm I'm genuinely really proud proud of freaks and Geeks so never gets old to me when people tell me how much they liked it. Yeah what came next after. freaks and GEEKS was Why did a couple of pilots? That didn't go anywhere and then I did undeclared and then My first feature film my first on camera role in a feature film. I should say not another teen movie. which is another talk about the photos that live on forever and even you re post them do Ninja? The yes I was. I was the Asian wanted when I when I was a teenager. Recall that W- Asian. Oh that's all the kids who are obsessed with dance dance revolution and started wearing look like like anime characters but somehow in our school uniforms it was an impressive task but But yeah that's way Asian. I understand elven. I was ahead of the curve wages and that was a that was wildly. Fun Job for me because Studio Feature Ray and And and it was. It was silly silly silly fun movie. Yeah another one that stands out that people remember you for it was one of the first of that. Yes so john the first one. That was not a scary movie parody. Yes with this for that. Generation scare movie and released to to data released scary movie in that scary movie two and then we came out on the heels scary movie two and And we were the first non. You know scary movie parody and and then The wheels really fell off. The IT already machine mind you for the mountains movie guide. I reviewed all of the. I'm sorry I've seen every single knockoff. Ridiculous you know and yet I love you anyway but but yeah again the cast. That's part of what's so crazy early on with those even the scary movies. Oh yeah like. They had everybody they had. Everybody kept America. Yeah you did. Yeah we did so being with Kevin Mark yes and and welcoming so many guests of all shapes colors sizes stripes Some of the ones that stand out to you who I'm putting putting on quite all right to do so I for me It was never about. It's going to sound like I'm only seeing the most famous people But that's really not the case for me. It was about connecting with Getting to really get in depth stories from people who I had always looked up to STARTING WITH WEIRD AL I booked weird Al on the show. In our first year He and Kevin and really know each other and I knew teeny little bit and then I saw him at an event and I wanna say it was that A little small premiere of the Patent Oswald Movie Big Fan I WANNA say. That's I think that's two thousand nine and I saw Albert and I told him we have the show with Kevin Pollack and you'd be a dream guest for us. Do you WANNA do. And he said sure so getting out come on the show and then he came on again some years later But that first time we had him on the show was it just it just made my life. I Adore Al.. In every way you can safely reasonably reasonably adore and other person and And so that that was a big one. We had Tom Hanks on the show. He did a two WHO and a half hour interview. She's with Kevin We played games. We got silly. We got very silly these archived they are somewhere I I'm I think they're all assessable for free if not you know. It's a small at a nominal fee to get access to everything We had and Jane campion on the show and she was wonderful she had amazing stories. My favorite thing though about having gene can't be on the show. was you know she's very serious person. She directs these three hen. Movies and so- Kevin Asks her you know have you Is there a lighter side to you do you ever do you ever think about doing in comedy and then in this exact tone she says oh well I love to laugh we still to this day. God bless her sweetheart. We still when something funny happens in. Someone's not laughing. Do you have to love would would you love and and so you know having her in there and hearing these great stories that was that was so much fun for us. I mean it's it's beyond the You know the huge ones we had. Larry David on What was that like everything you expected? It would be okay. We sit down. And here's my favorite part. We sit down in about fifteen minutes in into this podcast. That Larry had no idea what he was getting into. He stops and he looks at Kevin and he goes. You're very good at this. I didn't know what to expect. But you're very very good at this. That's a plus which is a huge plus but imagine that happening you know we were seven in years into that happening Johnny Carson Tonight show you know where he's got. Bob Hope on or something you know. You're very good at this. I unexpected here So that's why we often funniest we did And Yeah no there. There were so many so many great. When somebody ones where you wouldn't think like Chris Pratt on post moneyball middle of parks and wreck pre guardians of the galaxy? Yeah right when only you and I knew his name. Yes yes when when only serious parks and recs fans knew he was ever would and okay okay and will ever what I needed a deep cut but but we had him on. And we're talking about all this great stuff and you know he's just has this as we had this amazing all. We're going to get them kind of attitude. You know whatever happens next. I don't know we'll see and we also he's done well yes I think. He's don't get quite wealthy authors but that that's part of though because you've been working for such a long time and you're young it's like you do come up. Certain people like Chris Evans being in another team true. You know it's the kind of thing and people love to bring this stuff up like it was a secret like people online. We'll be like. Oh my God. I can't believe I found a video of so and so in this. You will. Yeah because he didn't just appear yesterday right. They weren't just walked out of obscurity. That's IT and given this giant Johny of my dad and I always joke about the overnight since the twenty year overnight sensation which is exactly what that is you know even Jeff Ross. Being where he is now jeff has been doing this a very long time very long. Jeff is eighty eight years. He looks good though. You look so good surge good gene can you. Can you give us an example of somebody who surprised you yes So I had the good fortune when Kevin Started his work on the marvelous. Mrs Mazel We we would still hold to doing an episode week so he was in New York a lot which meant I got to fill in in for him as guest host And when I got to do that I also then got to book a guest which was tremendous fun and also made me realize why booking guests for a podcast is very difficult? And it's you're asking people to willingly sign up for jury duty but But I was so pleasantly surprised by so many of the guests that was able to book. But Maurice Lamarche. He's one of the great all all time voice actors. I mean if they when they build the Mount Rushmore Voice. It will be sandwiched between Mel Blanc and frank Welker in my humble opinion and Anyway me whatever he whatever else he does and he's done so much so much he will always be that voice of Orson Welles taking the brand. Yes and It just makes me laugh every single same and and having him on I'd met him You know here and there and I knew his jovial guy but the stories he had hidden were eye opening. Were phenomenal I don't want to spoil it and it is not my story to retail But he has a family history thing that is very dark That he was more more than happy to talk about. I'm very glad that he did But it comes towards the end of our very lengthy chat and it gets capped by him meeting the Dalai Lama. Oh my so i. I hate to tease people but again it is not my story to tell and I would not do a good job of retailing it so so I say please hunt down me interviewing Maurice Lamarche and if you don't want us to holding that's fine skipped to about the last half hour and catch that story because it is is one of the truly great stories I've ever heard about overcoming a real personal tragedy and and learning how to live with that that sort of thing in a way that changed me after having heard him tell that story..

"As much about movies as anybody on the planet true story. No really but you have you. You've proven more than once. SAMM SAMM Levine. Oh you have an extraordinary memory as well as knowledge beyond just it's very sweet of you to say and it will come as no small surprise is that starts because of you and your molten movie guide was the Bible in my home growing up. There were multiple auditions. There was one for every room or there was a TV and if something came on this is back pre Internet days if something came on Oh no this movie. Oh who directed this. ooh ooh that other lead in it. Get the Guide and we'd grab the Guide and we'd start digging. Oh that's who it is. Oh that's right. Oh John did this one. Oh my God. I haven't seen this in thirty years and and And that's how it started for me. was learning movies like other people learn sports statistics. But you also know all your sports statistics to only no baseball. There's IT's pretty. There's a lot in there saying well. Yes there is a lot in there. I don't know what happened to me. Oh I do. I didn't go to college. I don't have psych one or two. Do you have a photographic memory You know I don't. I wouldn't use that term exactly because I feel like people have a photographic memory I reserve that for the Marilu Henner of the world. She has more than photos right. There's a name for yeah. There isn't a remember no but it is. You're right. She does have this specific condition that enables her to remember every day every every minute detail of everyday she's ever live yeah And so I wish I had that in my mind. That's what a photographic memory is. I just I I have a memory. That I do a lot of MNEMONIC devices when I memorized things. That's how I Memorize lines on working actor And so I guess that just sort of stays as with me like I'll I'll think of actors. I often think of actors by first name. Not last interesting. I didn't give you the proper build up. Those the way I describe is parents are not supposed to pick a favorite and mind. Did your mother and my father shoes you over me. Every the free time that is at is hurtful. Tell you now you go ahead. I was GONNA say favorite son. Go on no-no. Sam worked his way into the hearts of millions. Who is one of the cast members on freaks and geeks and the gift keeps on giving it really it really puts out an company sure and you are also member of the cast of a little film called Glorious Best Oh I am indeed written and directed to buy one Quentin Tarantino familiar with Pelham? They spelled the words wrong. Anybody I believe that was his choice. What what's funny about that to me is everybody knows bastards which is misspelled honoring? People always forget that inglorious is also not spelled from dyslexic. People like me feel better. No no no no it's The I believe the idea and people will come at me if I'm wrong here but I believe the idea why both words are spelled incorrectly was on on the Bat The idea was neither Donna. wits nor Aldo Raine were intellectual. People Okay Okay and You know they were just stone cold killers and and so you know reading and writing was not what they were concerned with And beyond that and I surprised he doesn't talk about this more often. You know. Quinton will handwrite his scripts Before he has somebody type them up and he is a terrible speller expanded and he will tell you. He's not ashamed of it. Oh Yeah I know. I don't smell. I know the word another word I'm thinking of. I don't have it right but I don't care because I put the word down and everybody knows that I'm trying to say and that is the most important thing and so I think maybe that also oh fed into it a little bit cool sound. Sam Lives in alternate life As a standup comedian. I did for a long time. I'd ever longtime I did center for ten years the strangest ten years of a person's life. Twelve to twenty two Omar. Gosh when most people are just thinking about getting into I was a very strange Kid and I had I lived right outside of Manhattan and so I had to. Parents mostly my mother who was very game to take me into Manhattan On a daily basis I for auditions and then For stand up comedy sets at various clubs all over the city and I had a manager and and He had a has a son along gold. Who's a very well known comedians especially so in New York at the time and so along vouch for me and then Jeff Ross vouch for me and helped get me stage time and it was It was terrific fun and I did it for five years in New York and then five years upon coming out to California and then when I was about twenty two I just sort of I I fell out of love with it. It was very different out here than it was a lot of pupil out of love with it but they keep doing. That's true but for me the reason I stopped was I started doing it to help. Sort of make a name for myself so that I could get my foot in the door. Auditions wise but by twenty two. I was working steadily as an actor. Knock on wood and I felt like well if I I keep doing stand up at this point. It's because I want to put out specials and albums and tour and I didn't really want to do any of that so that's sort of why I stopped doing it and also I'll tell you straight up. I was only okay. I was not a great comedian When I took the stage I was perfectly fine but I I I never saw myself You know In line with any of the COMEDIANS who I revered as amazing such as such as a Patton Gotten Oswald Sarah Silverman. A few people were not allowed to talk about anymore. Those names and I thought I will never be on that level and and so I didn't want to say I don't want to sound like oh I got discouraged. 'cause I'd never be that good but it was it. I didn't feel terrible all about because I I was I had success elsewhere at the time. Yeah right you do though you have fantastic timing and I know that because I've seen you on. ONSTAGE is so many times with Doug Benson but also different shows that you do and my God you can get an audience. You're shooting right. Well you know I love I love you too and you have. I have toyed with it over the last several years about getting making. I've done a couple of teeny little guest spots here and there you know my friend shows Sir that I don't tell anyone I'm doing it and I'll try out some stuff but it's a huge commitment. Oh No no I'm saying I think you get the best of both worlds. Oh I think that that by I doing what you do with these live shows people to see how funny you are without having to be all you and on stage and that kind of pressure. Oh sure sure no I know I agree and thank you. I love doing shows with Doug Benson on the road when we do the podcast on the road Yeah I've just no safer place to be onstage with. Doug it's true because you know it will always be a funny show no matter what and you were my entree so low indeed to the podcast. Doug loves movies. Yes it was you who suggested to Jesse or floated the idea for the front of Jesse that would I be willing to come. Come on the show and play the Leonard Maltin game a named for you Sir and I said I'm I'm worried about because the thing is if you don't know him mm-hmm and I would also say it's been a few years now and as he's getting older and and I mean in a good way he's a bit more tame And when I when you ask this got how many years I have no sense of time. It's gotta be gotta be at least ten years because we have to be my goodness well because we had you on the Kevin Pollack chatshow. Yes our first year Or maybe it was a doug we had on the first year. Then you should i. I think it was the other way on. We had used the guest and then Doug showed up and that was in our first year that would have been two thousand nine so we'd already established so yeah we're going back over ten years and speaking of that you are the The new Jack twenty-first-century. Ed McMahon anyone understands that reference anymore. You're the sidekicks. Say the very funny Kevin pollock on his not in eighteenth or nineteenth years certainly feels that way of doing doing Kevin Pollack's chat show. We had an amazing ten year run. We started in two thousand nine and we closed out the podcast earlier this year on our tenth anniversary Some I think we're about four hundred fifty shows in and they were all wonderful and Yak. It it was just it just became a too much of a Labor of love. Yeah Yeah for for. I know that been there done that. She said Yeah but with Doug I didn't know what to expect and I didn't want to put my dad in a position where he was going to get made fun of or I just didn't know I I didn't know what but we will. We Trust Sam so as long as he goes on with you. We know he's going to be okay. I think we made you do that three times times or something like that at least and then one day you weren't available Doug One of my dad and I said okay. We've we've met him. He's been very nice to you and we know he's a real die hard movie buff and they'd always had good conversations but I remember I wrote without you. That was like without the safety net and it was still great and from then on you and Doug love each other. I mean it's very funny to watch you in the same way watching the two of you is hilarious because you're just narrating so hard together And you add dug into that mix. It's the same thing as I agree. I'm bummed that I don't get to do Doug's podcast with Leonard as as often anymore because We're both. We're both so busy. Leonard I'm so stuck you all of you though I mean you really are. You're always somewhere and you're always working on something I tell you. I'm a very lazy a person that's not a lie. I am the one of the laziest people I know. And so when I am wildly busy for weeks and weeks and months on end You know and people like. How's it going freely busy? Enjoy me anymore now now doing well. Things are great. Can't complain but Oh oh my God so much every day and there are people who thrive like that. I am not wonderful your speak speaking to to to a pro napper and I attempt but never do very well with it but oh man it is it is. It's a lot I'm going to be in Sacramento this weekend in an afer convention and they asked me to come in early so that I could do press the Friday morning before I said Oh sure yeah like eight nine. Am kind of thing. Oh No we're GONNA have a car pick you up at six. Am Yeah you're going to be on the six. Am News the local newscast. So I'll be doing that this Friday morning in Sacramento. I don't know in this drops but Friday morning and a Good Friday something. If you're in Sacramento Watch the local Friday news so was freaks and Geeks the I I see. I can't even say big thing wasn't in the sense of when it first started I started. It was not a success but in terms of the size of the role and what it entailed. Yeah Yeah Yeah No. I've done a couple of commercials had been in an episode of one life to live but FREAKS and GEEKS was. Hey My my big my my big big break as they say yeah and precious..
