"The great college squads in the state joining us now the head coach. Of the UW Milwaukee Panthers. It is coach Pat Baldwin coach. Thanks for taking some time with us this morning before we get into your son and your latest big time recruiting what he's doing this summer. I want to get your opinion on basketball in the city. Milwaukee right now, is this one of those situations where you feel like rising tides lift all boats and everybody benefits from the the good times of hoops in our city? No question about it, and I hate to talk about another, uh, sports. Or NBA team from a different city. But when I was in college, I was at Northwestern and Chicago Bulls were were in the nineties. They were doing such a They were phenomenal, obviously, with Michael Jordan and just the the buzz in the city during that time and then obviously when they wanted three times on three times in rolling on two different occasions. It made for great summers. You know, So, uh, so now fast forward to this time now, you know our guys are really Um, they love they love the box They love going and hanging out in the Dear district. And And just for the city of Milwaukee. This is fantastic. Um, and for us, we're reaping the benefits. You know, when we're talking to recruits, they're talking about the playoffs and In the box and Janice and middle pen and all those guys and and it just really, uh, you know, rejuvenate and and generate so much excitement, um, for our program, not guarantee you every place else. In Milwaukee. So as a coach what sorts of lessons can you pass along? Maybe from the box in their playoff run right now to your players at the collegiate level, What kind of transferable from from level to level that you feel like you can use this upcoming season? Well, you know, I think what's transferrable for our guys and we talked about this all the time is just how important every possession is. And you know, you look at the Bucks in Hawks series. Right now, There's you know, there's different possessions that that changed the tide of the game. And, you know, so we talk about that we talk about always being ready. Um We talked about someone like Bobby Portis, that on some occasions being peace, and I think it was last series, he didn't play in some of the games. But you see him after after the game is done, and he's out on the floor, getting up shots and You don't have to be ready when you're already always preparing to be ready. And so we talk about those types of things always. Always have your game ready. And when you're not playing for some reason or another, don't out the great teammates and your time will come. Hopefully if you continue to work Milwaukee Panthers head coach Pat Ballroom with this year on Wisconsin's Morning news, So coach your your son Patrick Baldwin, one of the top recruits in the country, obviously made big news, choosing to stay at home and play with the Panthers in college, But he's joining another team this summer. The U. S A U 19 World Cup team. What's this tournament all about? Where is it taking place? And how can fans kind of follow not only Patrick, but the rest of the squad this summer? Yeah. So, you know, congratulations to Patrick. It's It's a well deserved honor for him. There's some really good, talented players that that went through the training camp and try out with him and he emerged amongst I'm not another guys, and it's going to take place in Riga, Latvia, and it starts July 3rd and will commence the 11. Hopefully, they're they're playing until that last game and can bring home the gold. But this is a Tremendous opportunity for him, and we're so excited as a family. We're excited as a as you know, team for him as Milwaukee and, uh, you know, this is this is going to be a boom for him going from there and with our team, and our guys are anxious to get him back as well. Coach. We're excited to watch it later this summer and certainly excited to watch Patrick and you w n this upcoming fall into the winter. Thanks for taking some time with us this morning. We appreciate it. Take care. No, thank you. Take care. We'll talk to you soon. 7 27 at WTMJ time Now for news about your money. Here's Sam Zeff quits with the WTMJ Drake and Associates Market Update. "Good morning, Kelly. Good morning. I learned a lot looking at your column this morning as I was preparing for a little chat and, uh, come to realize, Of course, that art is more than just an old general sitting on a horse. Right? Oh, my gosh. Yes. And Milwaukee seems to be a hub right now. Her sculpture. I mean, we've got, you know, sculpture Milwaukee that does their exhibition. Every year. We've got Lyndon Sculpture Garden, which is maybe my favorite place like in the Metro area. And then we've got that new bird exhibit outdoor public art installation over at Lakeshore State Park, which is actually only up till August, But that is a very family friendly, kid friendly place to visit this summer. What I love about your list. Kelly. I am not visually gifted in any way whatsoever. And when I look at the sculpture called the Blob. If I had seen that, as a child, I might have thought I could have had a future in art. There you go. I do. I know that. That is a Greek sculpture that we're just trying to make this accessible for families because exposing kids to this kind of you know, you could call it, you know, fine art, or whatever you want to say. It's really a way for them to be inspired, and you can spark conversations between you know parents and kids as they're exploring these things together and kind of taking it all in together. So it kind of takes you out of like the humdrum of daily life and really make something memorable and exciting, so to speak, and taken out of the the humdrum of normal life. One of my favorites that's on your list. Kelly is about a mile straight east of where we're sitting right now. Without water Park. This spill over to its Very peaceful, calming, meditative, almost like a guy looking over Lake Michigan. I think that'd be an awesome place to take kids to just chill out for an afternoon. Well, I agree at water Park is great, and this is just the way to kind of enhance your visit there. It's made out of metal letters and it And as you said it it forms of, uh, the image of this guy you know, overlooking Lake Michigan. The other thing is, there was some controversy regarding the sculpture a few years back. So if your child is older, like age 10, you can talk about that controversy. There were like some words that were maybe spelled out in this sculpture that were offensive. Yeah, and but then the but then it was changed. The artists actually took those words out. And so you can kind of read about that and definitely had some good conversations with your kids. Kelly Herbst of them key with kids dot com. Joining us Live on W TMG that I'll take the long way home sometime and go. Right to the in the capital. Drive it, I'll sit there and I'll stare at the stoplight. We'll start the sculpture at the stoplight Nelson to be behind the movement, buddy. I mean, it's so cool. And of course, we still have the bronze funds, which even though kids are probably too young to appreciate happy days, it's a good chance to educate them about the time in Milwaukee that is still being remembered on television and rerun somewhere as we speak. Yeah, You know, it's so funny. I took my 10 year old to the brand's son. He had no idea what we were looking at or what he was taking a picture with, but you're right. It starts conversation about an old sitcom and the other thing was right around the corner. We went to dinner at the safe house. Which is essentially a spy museum. I mean, they've got a piece of the Berlin wall there. We've got signatures of famous dignitaries in the newsroom pub right there. I mean, it's a great place to go shirts fun. It's It's just kind of a fun, silly experience in a lot of ways. But there's so much that would spark curiosity and a kid and that's right around the corner from the ground funds is the perfect night out in Milwaukee with your kids. Are you allowed to give us the safehouse? Password? Hear on the radio? I would never do that. No Kelly Herbst of MK 80 with kids dot com joins us live every other Tuesday.
