"One of the best opportunity smart came in the twelve. Th minute a cross from she. Nishiki i believe to the back pos. The michael borrows heads over the bar and then ends up dropping on top of the net. You ever since we'll tell though it was really the only true danger man for toronto on the night him getting the ball in the space and trying to cut inside and the centreback sit really good job of cutting out his angles and forcing him into You know bad shots. From distance or from poor angles that would have been spectacular and for the most part he was unsuccessful. The only other really good opportunity had came in the twenty eight. Th minute when patrick mullins kind of did a little bit of a shimmy shake shoved off. Kenny wilson and cut inside and proceeded to vary patch in a very patrick. Mullins way chipped the ball to the back post in spectacularly Lucas says look decent. He had a couple of really good opportunities inside the box mark. He's increasingly looking like more of a winger than he is a leftback. Dare i say sam vines like possibly like what we see from davies with byron munich keegan rosenberg got more involved in the attack as well rapids through a numbers. I would say mark every single one of the five changes. That robin frazier made. Were attacking side including bring off center back to bring in an attacker. Danny wilson coming up in the second half and the only other real good opportunity you had to the game folks was ninth minute plus one. We're galvan cuts back inside the box and then crosses to the middle dombi indigo rubio. Were there i would say balji. Mark probably had the better angle on the shop. Rubio got to it first and he ends up heading it wide over the bar and this game petered out was very uninspiring mark. I think it was one thing to say another drop but this is more efficiently. We've seen the performance drop off against the lesser opponents this extremely concerning normally throat to start off good thing mark but where we wanna start giving. This game didn't have a whole lot of plot and not much good stuff to talk about other thirty some good things. I'm always game for this. I just read rewatch. I just watched this game for the first time because i was covering so everybody was out of town For my other beat which is covering the pittsburgh river hounds. So i've no joke. I did my best matt. You'll appreciate this reference. I did my best rachel. Krieger impersonation rachel. Krieger is a amazing Journalists for last word on soccer at several other outlets. But i have personally witnessed rachel. Krieger shoot photos. Then take her laptop behind the opposing goal at write the article while the game was in progress while also downloading the photos so i was doing photography.

"In the rapids exploited that space in the middle. They were able to move the ball inside outside decide very easily. I'm mark anthony. K looked really comfortable on the ball. Matt you brought up the the austin trustee doing his best sam vines impersonation. I thought that was a totally student. I saw the same thing. It was a totally sued observation. Trusty doesn't come as centrally. Sometimes vines has in the past he he does get to the end line more though he really wants to get into as you put it. The manchester city's on he's really dangerous. Getting all the way back there. And i think when opposing teams see the left back in that spot despite the fact that the rapids have been doing it. All all season. They often look up like hold on. What's that guy doing their you know what i mean. And it's this it's fun and it causes chaos. And that's i think one of robin frazier's trademarks which is use your back to cause chaos user right back that just can't defend and hold down the other rosenberg and get forward to Last thing i guess. I'll say overall is we didn't really mention him. Overtly but statistically speaking foot mob gave whole bassett the highest rating on the team based on The number of things that he did he produced point four three in expected goals. He'd put his Thirty accurate passes eighty six percent passing success in three chances created which is pretty high for a midfielder attacking midfielder. He also put a number of shots on target so even of acid doesn't you know Come off of on the scoresheet as a guy who really produced anything significant. I'm he did look really good. I think is interesting. You know the the european window still open for I think at least two more weeks matt do. They closed on september. First yes end of august. Yeah and some of the european leagues actually are even further back than that so. I think you're probably right that the the window is closing on coal bassett's ability to be sold. But i wouldn't necessarily say it's totally gone yet. I do think they're probably looking for the right amount of money in the right deal Navy a lot of folks saw that the rapids with rapids did with sam. Vines was a big sell on fee. The next you know. A big percentage of the next cell on and maybe that's what porac has been going for another teams are like. We don't really want to do that. We wanna fleece you. For a low price on a good quality young midfielder from america. The rap is like no no. That's not the deal so That's my good stuff matt..

"Who for me will probably finish hurson in the western conference so like you said not only is it not statistically significant it's also not relevant to the colorado rapids my say. I'll just add one more thing which is really important. Which is i might have been getting the marine species of fish wrong it might have been sardines farting and i don't remember so. Forgive me fans if i got the The brand of fish wrong definitely salmon or tuna was either sardines or mackerel. Go ahead so in any case guy. I want to confirm again. Go to the little bodega thing to get the reindeer hotdogs but definitely. Don't go in the water if you see bubbles and everything i'm going to assume you're gonna assume all factories don't want to experience the the essence of sardine and or mackerel and or I don't want to experience. Fish farting general. Don't go in the ocean tie. You're safe on sister best. This is either podcast material or worse podcast material. All time fans are either going to be loving this or hating this. Like what are people listening to this. Like these guys are high and the answer is no do not legal in pennsylvania and i got you know things to do. I can't i can't be But yeah it could be. I don't know let's talk about stocker listeners. For the five of you. Who are still listening to us. This past saturday the colorado rapids went into houston. Texas entity compass stadium and lane on the houston. Dynamo houston did not hold it down. And they suffered their first home loss at. Bbva compass in the twenty twenty one season marked the rapids come out and they are absolutely smelling blood. In the opening fifteen minutes of it they are swarming. The houston dynamo. Houston doesn't know like they're not even communicating right with the weird five three to five to three. They had set up. That's just leaving space for dare. I say austin trustee to do his best sam vines imitation and it actually worked out pretty well a couple of set-piece opportunities the rapids clearly knocking on the door. They get a corner. And i have one of those like turning over and looking at one good in here and this is probably a goal. Jack price allows boubacar for his second goal of the season in the fifth minute rapids continue to swarm a couple of good opportunities You had the header opportunity for michael barr eos a couple of minutes later on diego rubio with these services on that one mark. I think if there's anybody else namely someone taller who's more used to heading the ball..

"Just like we did with tyler adams and so sc dallas similarly. Now they're selling players like hotcakes can say well. We produce weston mckennie. What's mckinney came out of that academy and certainly fc dow's academy must be good so dallas in new york are starting to develop a reputation to where they could start adding on an analyst equivalent of the southampton tax. The i x tax. The rapids have to get new market. And you don't do that by selling at top dollar. Rabbi your thoughts It's it's it's a really good question. And i think the overall like challenge between these two teams and one of the things that matinee Talked about before we started. Was you know my fundamental question was. How is it possible that the rats accepted so much less money for two players than Sporting kansas city accepted for gianluca. Bouzo and Tanner test man Got for fc dallas Our players that much less valuable one challenge is potentially about kind of like agent height gianluca busey position may be more valuable Valued than Sam vines position in also kind of like an upside to that which is like maybe sam vines at left-back is a very valuable player. But the the most valuable leftback in all of world soccer is not nearly as valuable as the most valuable number ten at world soccer or the most valuable forward or striker in soccer testing basically plays as a box to box midfielder although he does sometimes play more of his six. He's probably not a ten like a creative attacking forward midfielder although you know with central midfielders really can't tweak and play a great degree if you really want to understand that. Think about jermaine jones as he was used with the colorado rapids where he actually started at the ten a couple of times. Her us ended really looks good in a kind of works. Tyler adams is also kind of played forward and backward a little more than your average guy anyways by being so men talking about it. And i was like. How does this make sense to you. He was matt said. It's all about the sell on clause. The rapids have put a lot of lot of the weight on the sell on clause whereas as far as we know there either is no sell on clause or the sell on clause for the players have venezia test men and busey o. r. r. is much lower which means that the The rapids front office import smith and fran. Taylor are far more confident that sam vines get sold on to another team later and that they'll be more money down the road and maybe that's a better deal to get them into.

"D you playing for the u twenty. Three's that summer league. That is now. I think league wonder leaked to in the us l. I spoke with a senior. Were like he knew he was going to get drafted. In everything to the type of just well-polished interview media interact interactor. That is andre cheeky. Seeing sam vines. Total headlights and everything. And he's like you know like he. He looked at me higher. Go ahead medical bassett's announced. I was a cobra's announcing it was really cute. Because i don't know that kohl would remember it this way but like a lot of people in the room talked except for coal bassa. You know. I think Brian crookham spoke and portsmouth. Spoke and Anthony hudson spoke and His parents spoke and coal. Basically had like you know two sentences and it was like basically it was straight out of boulder you know. Just spit up those quotes. I'm just happy to be here. Help out the ball club. And i'm really excited for this opportunity. This is a big day. I worked really hard for those that there was nothing there but it was like and he looked a little nervous but he was happy. And that's your you are a hundred percent right that like we. You and i both have a soft spot for these players because we watched them not only mature as players. Like all of us do but we watch the mature as interviewees as media Personas you know right. And i think we all saw carolina a constant when it came to the rapids. He was still pretty. Young is still figuring out his his mo-jo and it's kinda settled in and now he's like team leader but when he arrived at the rapids he was kind of like dc. Fc dallas flotsam and jetsam cog in the machine that they didn't want anymore and deer in headlights. So in any case like samba's looking at us like what do i say. What are you gonna ask me. And like i just look at him and i introduced myself at that point because i don't think we've met. Hi sam my name's matt pollard. I write for last night on soccer. We're going to go easy on you. Don't worry about it. And so i actually had the last question and i don't know if you remember that game market actually meant penalties and our good friend zach. Mcmath actually scored winning. Pk just absolutely blasting it by the boca juniors player and everything and so i said you know. Hey sam i don't know how much you've been training watching. "We said what it meant from a macro-financial standpoint. We'll talk about that longer. But any final words that you have to say about sam vines claire no longer being a member of the colorado rats a. I said it on twitter. I was really sad out sad. I was sad that That he was leaving. I get it. I'll fans kind of like a lot of supporters. Navy interpreted my words not a lot. A few people interpreted as like you know all good things must must you know like move on like it was it was the right move at the right time and i totally agree like i absolutely know that this is the right move for sam in his career. We were lucky to catch lightning in a bottle At the right time matt. You probably know this. Because i i probably mentioned it before either on the potter just went when hanging out but like i know. I have an unnatural affinity towards players. I've interviewed right like there's just a thing where especially if i interview a player and they click with me and i think that there are good interview. I really enjoyed them right. Like you know. I interviewed sam vines knowing that he was making moving on. But not really believing it and thinking like will this is you know this is this is a good interviews is like my second time interviewing him. But i look forward to the next time i get to interview him and the reality is probably never get to interview again And that's a bummer on multiple levels one. Is i like him as a player. I've written a lot of things about him. The things i've written about him. I feel like we're better ratings. I feel attached to because the writing that i do on sam works out. Well which is because he gives good quotes But i'm also attached to sam because he's a good human being he cut his. He came out of the academy system. Because i've covered the academy system for a long time. So it's like it's very like you know. I'm being semi philosophical and also completely long winded in confusing which makes total sense for me as a human being but also as rabbi like i just have a soft spot in my heart for sam he's genuinely good human being in a genuinely good soccer player. And if you've been listening to this podcast for a long time. You probably know that. I don't say that about every player like and i don't talk about the players that i've interviewed who i did not click with or i did not enjoy but there have been players in the past was like you're not giving me anything and i don't know what to do with this interview And you know so. That's that's that's the thing that that being said. I am really excited to watch him in belgium. I hope that i will be able to get those games on some network or something I completed the the the final link in the chain of Full soccer addiction matt. "I think the thing that confuses me a little or i'm just not entirely sure what it means is like he. He's a lot like coal bassett with slightly better passing He sometimes has some of the defensive lapses or some of the question marks regarding defense that bassett also has And i think the early early theory on how he's going to be used in the lineup is that fraser's gonna use them for three three and move kelaniya kosta to left back when sam vines sold Which is possible. The possibility i think. That's that's really simple off. The top of our heads is that austin trustee has locked down that left back job and that coal bassett is one is getting bumped by marc anthony k which is interesting. Because it would mean that you've got jack rising calinikos Mark anthony k is kind of like your dribbling number ten creator which hasn't really ever been his role with with l afc. So it's a really. It's an interesting puzzle. I mean it's really interesting.

"July twenty seven twenty twenty one to burgundy boys have helped the us mnt make it to the gold cup semi finals. The united states women's national team are looking fallible heading into their quarterfinal match against the flying dutch women in tokyo and the rapids locker room is a boot to smell more like maple syrup eight. I'm joined now by a man who seen mark anthony k play multiple times in person. And he's not sorry boot. It rabbi marc goodman. Oh matt in in the in the pantheon of excellent interests that you have done that one is really right up there might be lebron's or perhaps even silver medal her intros that you've ever written. That is that is not being his ally. Just looking up randomly at computer to see like you know the There's a massive stream of data in front of me kind of like in the matrix where nieto's watching little green numbers slowed down from the ceiling. And just noticed that. If i'm not mistaken either today or perhaps yesterday is cold bassett's twentieth birthday. Happy birthday cool bassett in terms of two zero. That's the big dominant thing. It's an exciting birthday except of course because we live in america. It's not at all on exciting birthday because he's one year away from being able to drink. That's amazing white. Brian galvan is twenty and two hundred ninety five days according to football reference. So he's he's he's making his way the only way he know how. It's the age of twenty one. I want to say just maybe six seven hours before after that news broke but markelle of our national teams for the united states are in the full swing of it now. Officially both of them are in the knockout stages. Since last week podcast. I believe the us had no. It had been a full week between the end of the group stage. And in the end of the knockouts so we saw the. Us dispatched jamaica in a disjointed game but showed a lot of individual quality as we talked about Internally last word. I think we're officially at the point where it's been enough of a tournament and we've seen enough variations in what the us has tried to do an individual performances that that is not enough data collection and game filth or great role to on it and say i've evaluated their players who have stocked up their players. Who stocks have fallen. I would say calendar cost is up. I would say sam vines is about were expected ultimately a difficult game against a jamaica team. That's very familiar with itself for a. "The expectations for the club should be later on the season. They may be going back to the ask. H. t. h. L. mark that we had about san jose showing maybe the rapids have regress to where they're mean is actually out here. Here's what i'm going to say that because the us doesn't play until sunday so no matter what happens rapids. No players getting changed over between a cost of vines or louis between now and the game on saturday and so if this is a i think we're both agreements that probably sam by his not long for being a member of the colorado rapids. I think cost at this point has played his way into he is going to get regular call ups in the world cup qualifiers later this fall so the version of the rapids have right now as a team without sam vines without carolina. Kosta i think is a good representation of where they could be at. Come september over the stretch. Run for making the playing an opponent. That isn't gonna have a whole lot of roster changes their one big acquisition for the summer was bobby would. They don't have any big players. That are rumored to be moving to europe or big into the national team picture really so it's unlikely that they're going to lose anybody so a fully fit and healthy oursel- is where undermanned rapids will be in the fall with sam getting sold with county kosta and potentially jonathan lewis called up for the national team so in that regard mark. I want to see a better performances. 'cause bounce back because the way that the team played against san jose was good enough against als but i would almost be happier with a good performance but not necessarily the result against ourself because then that shows to me that an undermanned were an altered rapids team can still beat those opposing bubble playoff teams like on our cell. Like a houston. And then if they do that. That's a team that i know comfortably can be a playoff team and could potentially go on a run when you games are not supposed to and then potentially challenge for a home. Playoff game said mark. i've got a win and a draw this week in.

"It'd be easier for us to move one of our wide players into a wingback role than it would be trying to actually get a functional leftback. Who could do what. Sam vines does in a back. Four is a question. I would ask robin frazier in four years if he still with the rapids if we're writing a book and six and see if he's willing to give me enough to connect dots with a few other things that i would ask of certain people off the record but yeah it's it's an immediate hit to the team in terms of expectations. Marquette agree with you. I think sam vines has gone and if there's not an immediate replacement in this secondary transfer window. I think realistically we're looking at the rapids. Not getting a home. Playoff game and i would have Questions that i would sir. One support smith is available for his next media. Ability may be bring to light some of the details and making sure that this move was something that makes sense made sense for the club in the short term and the long-term financially and not just in the ways that you rabbi alluded to in terms of. Let's sell player to make up for some losses because it's been really hard for kfc on the last year and a half with arsenal not having home games and not getting that. Same sweet. Sweet playoff money from the doug's. Let's move on listeners. "Save is is gone Once the details leaked and conservatives is basically just down to like vast feels to me like the cell on fees low which implies to me that the the percentage of do transfer is going to be high So for comparison. Tanner testimony was just sold the same week to venezia for three point. Nine million And i think vines is better. And i have a feeling the testament sell on deal past. Venezia is a lot lower If if and possibly even non-existent that they got their cash And they were done with that deal. So so that's my take I think that from a player perspective vines wants to leave from us mnt camp at the end of gold cup come home pakistan in get on an international flight And starting in belgium. I don't think. I mean the european season starts really really soon. You wanna get into training camp as soon as possible. And i think most of these teams at this level are not sending anybody to the olympics. Or if they're doing doing it they're sending one guy so they're expecting those coaches are expecting to have a full squad By the beginning of august by like you know week one week. Two into august so That's my take is is that you know. If you've probably seen the last of sam vines you're probably that puts fans you're almost. I think you're almost certainly never gonna see sam. Vines interrupted jersey again. And that's a good thing. We should tell that because uses accessory from colorado. We should all be really happy. It puts team in a bad spot. and i think i don't mean to call out robin razor. I'm not saying that he's dishonest. A good face on a bad situation situation is without san vines. We're not really very dynamic. We lack some serious than its act. I we don't really have a clear option defense. I laid out in my last back past the possibilities for what to do without sam vines. I the opening article is about lionel messi and what lionel messi is rejection of going abroad and taking a fifty percent pay cut with barcelona reportedly means for messy kind of global soccer. But the second article is really about like. What do we do without sam vines. "In this game the man marking system. That san jose had pretty much effectively made all of that impossible and there were tremendous amount of plays that just bogged down in the midfield because the guys facing the wrong way. That's thing one thing too is another way of categorizing this game. Mr pollard is to say This was the rapids because they had a lot of guys Away a few other guys who they were arresting turning to all. They're kind of like bench. Do's and saying okay guys. This is your chance to impress me. She knew she keeps played himself out of a role he got a start. That is a hasn't really locked down starting role in two seasons with the club. He got a start. Barrios has to be on there because we need somebody who knows how to run the game cold. Basset started the season as kind of the fourth. The fourth of a three-man midfield but then slowly slaughtered in when we lost units nominally He did the job and he did a really good job You know austin trustee is trying to prove that he could be the left back. "I mean it's just. I mean i i get caught up in you know like pulling a number you know some advanced metric that either the fans love were eight or get into the tactics like oh spread the field really. Well we came out in this unique formation or whatever like sometimes you should sit back and enjoy beautiful soccer. That's what this weekend was about for me. Where a guy a guy. I work with a pointed out yesterday. He was like i watched of those games. Between the european teams and south. American teams didn't really different. It was a great observation. About how the game just has a different look to it. You know depending on how it's playing play and there's just beauty to the game that that needs to be kind of occasionally sat back in appreciation of the way that ball galvin struck curl the way he the way rubio pushed it out in front of them and then passed it to galvin the way galvan running the other way you know. Kinda pushed out got space with his defender Shaped up and then curled painted off the bar in inside. Just everything about. That was just absolutely gorgeous. That was my good thing. I mean it was just. It was absolutely beautiful. I know that you you did do diligence to figure out. The story was on the shinyashiki goal If you didn't know any better though it looked like mesquita dummied and shinyashiki kind of ran through and played to himself and there was all drawn up that way. That's how does the law because it was also beautiful so both goals were lovely and They they also were were finishes right. I think this team Occasionally gets a little bit starved for finishing there. It's a very good passing team. We get a lot of really good. Chances defensively the rapids are stalwart. But the finishing was great in these were too great finishes in specific malaise an individual performances. And i think the word of the name might have been retribution or vindication or just proving finally doing something everything came through to fruition from the stamp want you know we had talked about the three man. Backline and how lawsuit boubacar maybe. His strengths and weaknesses had lended to that. In a bad way and ultimately finally everything clicked for him. I performance i believe that he had where he's played eight minutes a game. He was his usual self. He was really tighten clean on the ball and he was really good in one. V one tackling that. I think is still individual skill that he does better than any other centreback. Maybe any other player on this team and finally everything clicked for him and it couldn't have come at a better time given the opponent and what he was asked to do in these matchups similarly awesome trustee being asked to play at left-back. Robin frazier was asked about that and they had known for a couple of weeks now that they were going to have to come up with a solution that wasn't sam vines or kellyn acosta at the left back position and they were kind of thinking. What if they flip it so where plan. We put somebody a little bit out of position but who won't make mistakes will be tidy on the ball. Everything won't get caught. In behind that allows keegan rosenberg to be that more aggressive going forward full-back where normally keegan's bend the defensive minded one thus allowing sam vines to go up and overload to midfield on the other side of the field. So brian galvante comes in and does a job as a wingback winger hybrid role there and austin trustee with really the first time he's been asked to do something that's outside of his comfort zone you know seems like especially going to last year..

"Right into a charlie. This is this is what we like to do. This is only like to think about. This is what we're looking forward to this summer after that. Big nations league victory from the us. Mnt the gold cup. We knew that this was not going to be the same roster. That went out competed oakley one that nation's league tournament gregg berhalter has been saying it for a long time. We're gonna have to separate groups. There might be a little bit of overlap and likely that overlap is gonna come from mls players because it is the summer and you've got transfer window open you've got guys going into preseason camps trying to earn their way like for instance. He said brian reynolds not here because joe's marino doesn't generally play younger players so they want brian reynolds to beat at roma from the jump with the new manager to make sure he has a chance to get into the team otherwise he's going to be working From behind a couple other names in that scenario where cameron carter vickers gotta figure his cup situation. Eric palmer brown to figure out his cup situation. And greg said admitted our centre-back cool is a little bit light. So here is the roster for those of you who haven't seen it goalkeepers matt turner the likely starter. Funny story there. We'll get to that shawn johnson. Brad gazon defenders george bellew reggie cannon shack more. That was a little bit of a surprise. Donovan pines another site. Surprise but again center back a little bit thin per berhalter miles robinson a starter says greg james sands sam vines and walker zimmerman the other presume starter at center back in the midfield coma. Kosta general kabuchiko stand up kansas city especially jet criminal. Don eric williamson. Who was my must have on this roster injection you'll end up top paul arriola gerald decay. Nicholas keeney matthew hoppy. Who's in for the first time. Jonathan lewis josse artists. Give me your initial reactions. You saw this. Twenty-three you're thinking about the summer you're thinking about the task at hand which is both to win a gold cup but also develop players to push into the first team to get to the world cup. What are you thinking right now on this thursday morning for me. I'm thinking there's not any anyone that i'm particularly surprised about. That's one too. I think this group is is has enough quality to win now if mexico brings. They're a team. That's going to be challenged in especially with mexico hungary to avenge that nation's league loss.

"So for me. Like rooting for kevin debroy. Nah because i love the way he plays the game You know rooting for denmark because of christian erickson rooting for england because of sokha for arsenal. Who i root for like those are the reasons that those are the reasons. I i watch but like basically. I'm not really like excited about a team winning the whole thing i like to see individual players shine. So that's kinda. How i i follow the tournament looking forward to like the semi's because you know when it comes down to it gets really exciting listeners. One week ago at time of recording the colorado rapids headed in two children's mercy park and within the first Within the first half mark. I think certainly in several other people on rapid twitter where basically calling mercy. This was a match up of the second and third place teams in the major league. Soccer western conference mark The rapids come out in a three five to. I don't know how productive it is for me. Honestly listeners to go through and recount every single event in the game the rapids again came out in a defensive posture. The passing out of the back wasn't particularly good especially from the midfielder's from us. Trustee from key can rosen berry. Sporting was on them from a press with a lot of the longer balls that they had. They didn't get as many outlet passes. They really needed to to michael barrios sooner or for him to be effective in absolutely create chances and also for them to really relieve pressure and they had a couple of sequences where they could mark a little bit better. They weren't particularly terrible but one really pass in one really good finish saw sporting kansas city. Score all three goals standard of scoring the first one came in the fourteen. Th minute really really good outlet. Pass johnny russell with sam vines a little bit further up and then nobody backtracks as john as daniel. Shallow we makes a cut across. Goal the keegan rosen berry loss of boubacar side of the field. And he's thoughts home a really really good finish good sequence for them mark..

"One thousand nine hundred eighty minutes and Austin trustee at twenty two starts in one thousand nine hundred sixty six six minutes which means interesting up? ABUBAKARR started every game that he since he came to the rapids and played. Every Minute Austin trusty got yanked for fourteen minutes at the end of season but isn't that mind blowing the rapids installed after they twiddle their thumbs and figured things out. At the beginning season they installed Sam vines at left back back and basically the dude lockdown position and they gave it to him for us of the year. Like I was surprised by that 'cause I was remembering the beginning of the season where he wasn't like like the guy like he wasn't on all the time and the answer is I'm wrong. He was he was the guy he was remark. Which is why I think it will? Interestingly enough I think there's absolutely no question about who's going to play fullback next year. We've got two guys. They're gonNA probably play every single minute as long as knock on wood there healthy. I think nick. I've tweeted a re written this but I don't know if I've said this on the pod Salsa at now Sam blinds is the best amyloid homegrown. US youth with international who no one is talking about. I know co Bassett. got a bunch of hype. I Know Court Ford with everything he did it to you before signing with the club got high but mark. Okay I think if there is a current homegrown on the roster for the Colorado rapids any chance of being a seven figure transfer fee a being the similar to the de'andre head. Lynn transferred to Europe. That this is proof of concept and now all the money that we profited from that is making up for the losses is for the fully funded operating costs of the Development Academy. There's any current homegrown who has a chance of doing that. It is Sam Vines and for me it's Sam Vines. There's a significant gap there's coal Bassa and then I'll say td on the other ones just because Gore Ford's been hurt and we don't you know what's going on with him and then obviously I don't think we have enough data on seven Anderson. He's so much younger that we shouldn't be judging him on that front. That's right so I'll say that on Sam Mines and then I think I really really minor mark. But you've said it twice in the show so now I have to say before before Jason Maxwell ends up correcting us on the on twitter There was a stipulation with the loan deal for Laos Boubacar that he would not play against Columbus crew so he did not play the game against Columbus which I think was the third game of his long site. All add one last little tidbit which is back to me. beating-up Kellyn Acosta Ah Cost and Coal Bassett had identical numbers in twenty nineteen two goals apiece to assist apiece zero point point six key passes per game. The difference was a cost of played. Thirty one games two thousand six hundred minutes two hundred two thousand six hundred nineteen minutes and Coal Bassett played twenty games one thousand and sixty three minutes so now to be fair. A cost of lows defensively more significant in both in terms of mathematics and in terms of what you saw on the raw field but it kind of begs the question of who are both these guys. What is their role GonNa be in twenty twenty and how is the club going to get them to step up? Because you know both of these guys are probably really critical to the success of the club if if they are going to take a step forward and if the plan is for them not to take a step forwards and The rumor is right now. That Pork Smith and Robin Frazier are currently in Argentina And have been there for the last eight days looking for players. Maybe maybe they're looking for a number ten who can really do the job Or a number eight and can go both ways and fill in for either Bassett or a cost. We'll see Leo Messi has not returned to Barcelona after the international window market and the rapids or signing him as their new designated. Just kidding. That's do you know where he was where where was mathematically was messy played a friendly against Uruguay in Tel Aviv Israel. Just this last week. It was a huge news in Israel. They followed him from the minute. He got off the plane all over the country. It's like the biggest deal ever okay. Never mind then. Robin Frazier and Portsmouth could be scouting. A bunch of players. One of those players is probably not Leo Messi. All right mark we've gone too long and we've provided way more off-season coverage than I think. Think anybody could actually process and way more than I think. Most people want a false on twitter at soccer underscore rabbi L. W. Smith Pollard for the pod rapids ninety-six Ninety six podcast American soccer analysis and last word on soccer.

"Hello rapid's fans and welcome to another episode of holding the High Line with Rabbi and read my name is Matt Pollard I am coming to you on the evening of Monday DOC Tober fourteenth two thousand Nineteen Rabbi will not be joining me tonight it is the off season the rapids are not in the playoffs and even if they were the playoffs hasn't started yet so I gave mark the week off I've got two things that I want to touch on and then we will get to part one of a three part series the rap kids that we have mentioned in previous episodes Tonight I'll be talking with Sam vines this segment was recorded back in late July Sam had already established himself as the starting left back under then conor Casey who is still the interim head coach of the rapids. I talk to Sam about his soccer journey discovering a soccer ball growing up and playing the game in Colorado Springs how he came to the rapids some US national team stop and a bunch of other fun stuff so I hope you enjoy that so we running assode one which is Sam fines this week and then in the next coming weeks probably next week in the following week a coal Bassett and then Sebastian Anderson and that order really really good evergreen content from the guys and I hope that you enjoy that but I've got two things that I want to touch on briefly first of all past couple of shows mark and I have alluded to or bonfire campaign that we wanted to do making shirts to commemorate the twenty nine thousand nine Colorado rapids bizarro season. The campaign is now officially live it live on about three hours ago from when I'm recording and you can go to that you can get to the campaign by going to bonfire or Dot Com backslash holding the highline Pids bizarro season that's all with the dashes and then backslash at the end of that The campaign will run on through November third and then if we sell a number of shirts to meet the limited bonfire has then the hopefully ship by November the twelve they are twenty dollars in one thousand nine hundred because mark and I have a very very funny humor I come in four different colors they call it cardinal but it's the closest thing that they had to burgundy those kind of a light grade the black option and then there's an ice blue kind of the the light blue rapids blue color that you have it says holding the highlight on the front holding the high line with Rabbi and read twenty nine gene bizarro season it's got gotta see it's got you guys going for a ball with one of them slide tackling because mark and I loved kids and then to mountains with kind of a river flowing through it's a rapid if you will and then it's got the Bizarro season highlights on the back of the shirt as well we did take a few of your suggestions so thank you very much to those of you you who brought in the shirt sizes are available from extra small all the way through three X. L. Those are Unisex sizes they've got sizes sizing guide for that for anybody who wants to look at that male female or non binary so head on over to bonfire dot com slash holding the highline pids bizarro season if you would like to get one of those shirts we got some pretty positive feedback that people were actually interested and this is a nice little experiment it's an alternative to the mugs that we have and then the the thing that I wanted to touch on for those of you who did not see all or whom are not avid listener listeners of extra time at mls soccer dot com we have a master any citing Pablo is on extratime last Thursday with bobby war side and other resident demon lover and then Susannah Collins talk generally about some US national team stuff lots of playing and coaching for the kids so I would encourage you to go check that out if you WanNa reminisce about the good old days of Pablo Mastroeni and maybe him reflecting a healthy way about what went wrong and the twenty seventeen season that ultimately led to his dismissal from the club and he was also on a club and country for the pre show and the post show for the US national teams seven nil victory over Cuba in the nation's League so good to see the Pablo's getting out of the house and doing things you know I thought he was effective in terms of what he did I wouldn't say that he's a media person based on his disdain that he had at times for the media when I was covering the team and certainly when he was player and head coach for the rapids but it's nice to see him doing something getting out of the House and I'm curious to see what's next for pop oh you know the head coaching job for the rap was probably his dream job unless maybe he wanted to take the US national team job he did do some brief things with Gary Smith in Nashville Phil might have been last year maybe the year before obviously has that relationship from the two thousand ten season but I'm not really sure what's next for Pablo on that front you know he's got enough relationships built up in amongst other people in mls who either are in a coaching role or who are in a front office role but I'm not sure if that's what he wants the timing or the opportunity is going to be right and I think in the few years that he's been out of work I think analysts is definite gently up the ante on what the expectations are for a new head coach so I think you know it's definitely above to where you know Robin Frazier had to be an assistant on a couple of really really good teams or you have to have some significant foreign or international experience and clearly Mastroeni doesn't have that he alluded to in the interview some of the things what he's learned so I'd be curious to see what's next opportunity looks like or what he would be looking for I'm not sure that it's anything more than an assistant coaching Gig Working for a guy where he already has a relationship so then maybe that networking gets him a little bit of an but then rapids twitter was having some fun with thinking that the is things usually happen in threes Anthony Hudson started a podcast mark neither bantered about that last week master any was on an episode I was joking that maybe conor Casey probably but in my fan fiction would be starting his own podcast where he'd be interviewing other balls and having a beer with them about and talking about football and then a couple of other people suggested that a Oscar should he get the US nat- or not the US national team job excuse me the opportunity the open head coaching job at Orleans city sc than certainly he would be invited back onto extra time for an interview US Cabrera former Colorado rapids manager left the club under precarious circumstances that I won't recount here was with FC Dallas won a couple of trophies but not an MLS club mls cup kind of maxed out with that team in terms of what he was going to be able to win in the media and then he's now coaching Tijuana in league Max Their Table Right now club Tijuana's normally Ben a pretty chaotic team in terms of roster turnover and being very up and down in League Amax they're not one of the old guard blue buds blue bloods they haven't won a trophy since two thousand love and that was the day finished first and leak and the APP mature back in two thousand twelve so Pablo's excuse me now Pablo Oscar has brought some stability the club in terms of results in terms of roster and that's an opportunity that's a job where if he does something really good he'd be looked at more seriously for a head coaching job for a national team in central South America he definitely be on the radar for l. tree should something happen regarding Tulsa Martinos jobs secure ready with that position I think it was pretty clear after what happened with the US national team that US soccer's made their statement implies Salihi regarding a non American non native English speaking coach taking the national job or not even being considered for relatively nope rattling made a move that he thought was good for his career whether or not he'd even be interested in the Orlando job given their situation financially and kind of that they've been owning over coach pretty much every single two years so you have to win regularly where for club Tijuana just being anything other than chaotic and in the top half of the table and the Max's probably good for him to hang around and then maybe springboard off into a better job and I'm not sure the Orlando job right now is anything more than a lateral move or maybe even a step down for him but I'd be curious to see if these if Casey or Paret do make an appearance on any form of soccer podcast in the future to complete the three former rapids managers appearing in a podcast capacity but any case that's all the stuff that I have for you this week folks go on head on over to bonfire dot com slash holding the highline pizarro season we did tweet out the link had that pinned to at rapids ninety six casts and then also on my twitter feed include Lincoln the show notes for those of you who can't find it at well without further ado here is segment one of a three heart series the rap kids my interview with Sam Vines from back in late July we'll see next week probably with part to my interview with Basset we'll see you then folks so Sam taking back when was your first memory of discovering a soccer ball going the car wreck the hostages as by lighten loves soccer was a social activity thing Z. Z. so for that and then young miss he might be sissies for few days Marxism away it's kind of funny you mentioned score goals you've been outside back you know what either the okay please amazed at how American soccer from a development standpoint has evolved in terms of what we knew five years ago ten years ago when doubt.
