"Com so Klay Thompson Steph. Curry Kevin Durant draymond. Green will chamberlain are they. Are these the best players or the best team according to the ESPN NBA writers quote we asked NBA writers to come up with an all time starting five for every current NBA franchise along with a all time team or something only players contributions during the time with that franchise considered? That's means Lebron James. Wouldn't be on the Lakers and it's basically what team you compete with. But it has to be a team it. It has to be a team like position. You can't force center. No you can look at the Lakers Kareem Shack. They got Jerry Western Kobe Bryant or shooting guards. They added some flexibility in choosing a lineup. But they won't you won't see a team with four centers or three point guards. No there's two centers on here not three. The idea was to dive into a team history and create a group that could potentially share the floor together. It's about building a team from Rick. Berry should be on there instead of Klay Thompson. Rick Perry should be on their set of Draymond. Green will chamberlain didn't play for the Golden State Warriors. He played for the Philadelphia Warriors. They're counting that. Because it's the warriors franchise even different cities. You can put Nate Thurman in there if you want to but not wilt chamberlain see doing well. Paulie I almost made it. I had a half hour to go and I say this Monday. No we're not here Monday and don't save it for Tuesday either. The Lakers have magic jerry. West's Kobe Bryant Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Shaquille O'Neal so that right there they're logic is flawed or the criteria is flawed. I got to shooting guards. And I've got to centers for the Lakers. The rockets have James Harden Calvin Murphy Tracy McGrady Rudy Tomjanovich Kim Malaysia. I'm fine with that. I'm sure there's somebody WHO's left out. You know the one that bothers me. The most is the great starting five for the history of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Ricky Rubio is on the all time starting five. What did he do? Wow he was an average to blow average player. Chris Mannix has to be thrilled. No offense no offense. No Vince taken. Bob in Seattle joins us. Hey Bob what do you have for me morning morning? One seventy five right need microfracture surgery survivor as well. Okay here in here. In Seattle we climb a lot of mountains and I personally have been up to twenty thousand feet and mountain. Sick is no joke. Just WanNa bring that delight is very Kabila all right. Yeah I believe it but let's be honest here. Jordan just drove to park city. He didn't climb a mountain sweet. What it okay. Would it be bad for his brand? If Air Jordan got air sickness altitude sickness in all seriousness. Sam Smith said he thinks it's alcohol altitude civil slip there a if back in the day it was it was announced at Jordan. Almost couldn't play play in a game because he stated in different hotel than the rest of the team and the team. Doctor said. Hey you should be staying at a high altitude. That could be something that would be frowned upon if that were the reason but blaming a pizzas. But we were. We were fine with the flu. Nobody was questioning the flu. It's like Michael. Wanted to add another element like decree of difficulty here. Yeah you know. I thought I had the flu. I was actually almost poisoned. Yes he might be mistaken. My memory might be failing me but I thought one of the biggest conspiracies and Michael Jordan's career was. Did he have the flu or was he out all night partying? Yeah so I don't really know that we did move on from like what everybody accepted the flu game. Could you imagine if he ignored the flu game? In this documentary we would be killing him and he he didn't have to say over the food poisoning. Maybe that's what he thinks it was. But if that's the case then why did you wait? Twenty two years to correct that he's been interviewed before and now he's GonNa correct it. I'm guessing he had some cigars he had some beverages and maybe hand altitude sickness. Maybe had something. I know that I was just surprised. That Jordan added something to that and went had food poisoning and then all of a sudden. You're going wait. What and now we're tracking down the Pizza Hut assistant manager to find out if it's true. And who are these five guys who went to his Room we're going to find out about this it just. I enjoyed the documentary. It was based on a true story. Let's put it that way as Sam Smith pointed out it's a. It's a nice documentary based on a true story. Yes mclovin okay is this. Is this going to put a bow on the flu game? Are we done the know rely? No no no no because we did I think now you can say was he out. Yeah maybe he did have the flu. He was sick but now it's food poisoning. And now you're finding out. What is it really food poise? I don't know it just opened it up where more people are going to talk about this. And why would Jordan tell the truth? I don't know why would he say food poisoning. Can he was good with the flu? Were fine with it. It was known as the flu game. We didn't say that the hungover game was called the flu game. Yes seton O'connor it seems like unless Michael Jordan said okay fine or I was out partying all night and I was super hung over and that's why I had. The flu wasn't really. The flu is like massively hung over. That's probably the only story that people would accept. No we would accept altitude signals. Nobody would be saying today. Like wait. A minute Jordan. Said he was out on night. Party and I think that's a cover for Elton. I think personal I would say that. I think if he said look. I thought I had the flu but I was told later. I had altitude sickness. Who's going to argue with that? Because he's saying something like man. I'm I'm vulnerable here. Not Hey I was partying. I didn't care you know I was up all night. It's got to be somebody else's fault somebody didn't you know they didn't make a pizza correctly and I got sick because of it. If he said altitude sickness I think it would have looked bad for a guy named Air Jordan that he got altitude sickness. That's all the Jordan illness. Maybe maybe he had too many of those Cuban Cigar. I've had Cuban cigars where my head spinning where you turn Green. I've seen people throw up with Cuban cigars but Mike smoked a lot smoking game day. Yeah mclovin maybe do supplementary line of Clothes Thin Air Jordan thin air dot got it. I got you know what you just did. Neglect opened the door for Fritzy here. We go what are you got a Grad? I was just thinking about MC bed attitude bed altitude something alone. No that's not good now. We're workshop in it though so I some time my country song about Jordan. Some phone calls here Drew in Texas. I drew what do you have for me? A als- everybody doing today. Great Drew Yeah. He's just going to throw in there that at high altitude alcohol doesn't really makes your system. I think everybody knows that but just in a key on that. I think that's what it was if you've ever experienced that. It's definitely the bill updating the I've never had all tatooed sickness at least I don't think I've been in park city but I don't. I remember walking a lot in Park City and you have to get used to it. There's the there's a shortness of breath there and you don't realize it at the time but you're like wow. I'm laboring here but I don't know if going back and forth from Salt Lake to park city if that would've I don't know how you you contract altitude sickness. I don't know what what you are doing. That will bring it on or increase. The chances of you getting Scott in Montana joins US I Scott. Hey Dan six foot one ninety five down in Salt Lake During those two years. And you know you really gotta be doing something. Physically exhausting to get altitude sickness in combination with the hydration. So I just got to believe that you know. It's Mike and Gatorade. If it gets out that he's got altitude sickness and that looks bad on Gatorade so I I would add plausible acceptance to the whole altitude sickness thing and I gotta correct polly. He's the Salt Lake's at four thousand square feet at four thousand feet of elevations square feet. Yeah yeah he he kind of kind of short change deal and how big Salt Lake City was on a roll. I'm just GonNa let him go Friday last populated four thousand square feet lovely city Chilly and BLOOMINGTON joins us. Hi Tilly would you have? Hey Dan talk. Hey you guys have a good weekend man. The Jam of the wizards yet supposedly part ownership and part of Michael. Look if he if he could he would come back complaint now because some of these guys in document challenged him and said he couldn't Ryan Russell didn't get interviewed. Probably said I could take him now and he would come back and play again if he could and would try. You know that that's the guy is always about the game more than anything. Had the famous love of the game clause in his contract. He really wasn't about that advertising in the marketing you saw his mom wanted made him go. After you've got to go see Nike. Still a hard one seventy three Just wanted to say a great show today. it's an honor to go right after Jeff in Detroit's comment and question if that's okay the right Thomson. You introduced us to him Or at least me. That was a great interview. The article about Jordan showed and his parents. Only that guy can tie Hatfield mccoys and Michael Jordan Jordan ridiculous Why shouldn't for you and I started to do on Friday. I'm wondering does the SPN released a daily list or entertainment or just to keep pissing you off. Because they're time starting five of some teams and missing from the warriors. All kinds of five is a guy who averaged forty points in the finals. A losing series and then actually single handling one another final sweeping the bullets and Western. So I'm thirty years old and I know who Rick Perry is. They got dream on green of the guy so I know it's embarrassing. Thank you Jessie I. I didn't even address that because it was going to drive me crazy. Yeah pulling again yeah. Espn did starting FIS for team. Historically in the starting five for the Warriors Steph Curry Klay Thompson Kevin Durant who spent a longtime their draymond migraine and will chamberlain. Wouldn't you think that what's his name? Saint John's Chris Mullin wouldn't he make it over a long career correspondent? I don't I don't know what they're basing this off of but to not have rick bury their who almost singlehandedly. Helped you win a title. Rick Barry put up some pretty good numbers for the Warriors Draymond. Green on any other team is just another player in a with the warriors he served a role and at times he was brilliant in that role but he not carrying a team. Chris Mullin was I mean look. Homo Sapiens Q&A
"To this is from a woman Jay will us? What do my fiance and I do about people telling us the right way to make a family. Tell him to fuck off. Yeah I mean just imagine that people getting up in their stuff about should they adopt? Should they do surrogacy should they? I think they should listen. But when it comes to the point when this be annoyed she obviously is tell them it's their business and a. I mean what the hell. Where do people get off topic too? Yeah I couldn't agree more. I think that's just dreadful. Do you know do you not my dad said to me when I said my dad got arrested. So lovely man. Lovely man said I said to Moses going to have children with my husband William and he went. What like Elton John? An ice lead. No just like people all right we. Should we do one more? Do One more these next questions does your great thanks so much. That wasn't really a question. Okay here's another question from s Who is a woman? She says that she she feels weird to tell people that. She doesn't conform to the Normative society thoughts is really interesting this because so when at Christmas I was. I seem to be the elected educated to my wider family. On what gender politics is. Let's say queer politics you know. People are going to be two darling white. They want to be called they. What what is this all about? It's all opening up right now. And Sam Smith who has been on this book us and we adore. I love about them is. They have said that they're going to be Miss Gender for the rest of their life. And that's okay and I thought that was quite sweet. That's nice. They said the on an interview. Eight and also this fluidity of all I think is and also what is plan sexual or these severe. There's a lot I think the thing is. It's a lot for people to deal with. Especially if you're not coming into contact with people who are out of those things so I might thing is don't feel weird about it just present. How you you know. I think any in any situation. It's okay to ask to be thought of to described. And if that's how you want then people should respect that they respect that most of their attitudes of ood can't keep up like you. I know people who've things what I'm not allowed to Oriental. No I can't keep up is Asian. Know terrible things that but that is a very common sort of attitude. These things change so quickly and we come up. The thing was thing is they do change quickly. Sometimes you just have to ask and if someone asks you to refer to them or think of them in a certain way then. That's just respectful to do that yet. And if you are feeling you want to define how you are referred to. I always feel like Kinda need to just double roughly double the amount of time. You think it's going to take to get that across to people you know you do have to invest time and explaining because it is. It's a journey for them as well Jennifer them and it is an is confusing and people on the whole are actually very willing to be respectful just often. They make strange mistakes when they fill on the back foot and they didn't what say. Yeah you know to me so I think it's like practice test. It's a test and if you explain it to someone in very very basic way and still. They're not respecting you. Then that's a problem often. I think people will be but does I think what s is asking about. Just hard feeling that she doesn't she's not kind of conforming to hiring. That feels her just kind of going out into the world and saying hey you know what I don't I don't feel particularly like you and that must I mean I guess it depends on the circumstances you find yourself in. I I think we are in the in the show Lucky in that those sorts of things are usually much more easy for us. What it's like if you're in a bank or something and you want to see you don't feel no so I think the thing is keeping yourself in a closet or in a ghetto is only going to make you feel

"You'd see them when I'd be out there with the sports center and you'd see the Chicago Bulls playing against whoever Seattle or if it was Utah. Portland or the Lakers. Whoever it would be one of those people I always enjoyed running into because he always had something smart to say something smart that he was writing about with Sam Smith. He wrote the book. The Jordan rules also co-authored Derrick. Rose's autobiography I'll show you bulls dot com writer longtime bowls. Nba Writer Sam. It's great to see you. Thanks for joining us. How have you been? I've been great Dan? Good to see again I see you're not on. Espn is that right. Yes I finally left down. I'm glad you stayed follow my career. Sam that's why you're great reporter then. I think that was the point about being smart when you were tell people what the Jordan rules was about. You know I it sort of double Anton in sense and that was not covered in the documentary. Not that it should be either. You know a play off the Pistons Defense which was essentially a trapping defense when they finally realized. We can't play this guy. We've got great defenders Joe dumars than as Rodman and. He's beating us all by himself. So we're going to double team triple team. Just guide him to places on the floor Jordan and the Bulls Jordan. Roses sometimes was in Phil. Jackson used to say a lot. The pretty girl gets kissed. Your around fell. Lott said Had internal rule it was sort of joking thing internal rule at data come in and see the trainer get treated get medicine go home and Jordan got sick. The trainer went to his thought they were different Jordan rules but the book essentially was supposed to be a really innocent and simple diarrhea. This season back. Then if you remember you know bird and magic with the NBA Isaiah was about sharing. It was about Making players better. It wasn't about scoring and the notion was no. Michael can't win with Michael. People wrote that all the time said you know he's great he's a star the MVP. We love watching them. But you're not gonNA have a winning team that way because he scores too much doesn't involve his teammates so the Bulls are trying to get through the Pistons and I've been traveling with the team several years and thought out. I had my dream job. Working for a newspaper. Already ever wanted was great fun and I see these guys Britain books and read books in Dump studied to meet him and they go. Well they're not so smart. Maybe I can do that too. So David hoppers dams breaks to the game on the blaze. Blazers in the late seventies was always. I really my favorite basketball book because it was a story beyond the game about the people and the elements of being a team together over the seasons. I said well maybe I'll do something like that in my spare time. And what's more important in life is for. The most part is health these days of course but being in the right place at the right time and I happen to be pick the season ninety ninety one instead of Jordan breaking his foot game. Three like he did. Eighty six eighty five. Eighty six the bulls end up. Upsetting PORTLAND. Doesn't get there. They were the favored then. They beat magic in the finals. And now I've got a diary of Maj Michael Jordan and the Bulls winning a title. Which happens to come out right about the time. Jordan skipped the trip to the White House. Go on a gambling weekend with slim bull or in a bunch of this unbeknownst to him convicted drug dealers and things. So everything's on a bugs up at once. This story gambling all this sort of stuff and I was just said. Hey I just wanted to peel back the curtain a little bit show you. What a seasons like the Jordan? No you're writing that book. Oh yeah they all knew okay. I had told guys to season and when I'm proud about the book I mean. Of course it's taken thirty years and now. I've got validation because Michael Soda Cop to it now and I can be a jerk. Sometimes because back man was well. Michael is perfect. You know marketing figure in these up in the tree house to deliver the kids. Kokin coca-cola and his shoes and kids dancing and singing. Be like Mike and well. How could he be like this? How could he say you know? Horace Grant. You can't eat today on the plane going home because you play badly or your Bill Cartwright. Don't throw him the ball because see he's he's got fifty fingers catches throwing the him we throw at the him. I'm not throwing it to you. Michael wouldn't do those things. And so now Michael. That is the great thing about the auto about the documentary. Seeing him the way we saw him in the eighties open and funny and challenging in these interviews. Just been the best part of it to me and Change Sam. It was really an early night. Obviously the confluence of events. You know the celebrity success and now the controversies again. You know the opposite a book to some extent I said I. I haven't traveled with the team several years and told all the players in him too before we had a good relationship golf them and been around him a lot and said yeah. I'M GONNA write a book about the behind the scenes with the team but nobody's GONNA lose their job and nobody's going to be embarrassed with their family just going to be what it's like and that's what I felt was then with that then. The gambling thing comes up you to skip the trip to the White House. Do this magic. What that would be like today You know and then in New York during the playoffs not go to Atlantic city He goes to Atlantic City in New York papers. Make a big fuss about it which was really a stupid story. But nevertheless he's starting to feel all these years and I've sat and talked with you guys and being accommodating and he really was the best guy in the league to deal with Starr maybe magic. Hughley wouldn't even closer as far as accommodating and friendly and open and I it essentially from that point on. He began to become reclusive to the point when he wants he retired. He became this complete recluse which. I've really been surprised. They did documentary but again he's so far out ahead of all of us. You know that this thing just becomes as this icon. It's it's amazing. What the documentaries. Because I think it's strategic. I thought it was brilliant. Marketing Salmon. A couple of fronts. He's introducing himself to a new generation reintroducing himself to our generation but he's also sending a message to Lebron James and ending of his fans a that. Hey you'd think Lebron is getting up there near me. The fact that he agreed to do this documentary on the day. Lebron won the title with Cleveland. Sam that's not a coincidence. This is a it's a ten ten hour reminder of just how great Michael Jordan's yeah. I'd like to say that not the case. But how was your relationship with Jordan now? He doesn't really have relationships with media people for the most part because he doesn't have to be a team he's a billionaire and he just built his own golf course but once he came back in ninety five. And you know you see now the interviews Michael Jordan nobody Sorta the snowstorm in all of us. Are you know so I've run into a few times? Charlotte with the Bulls still travel casually with the Bulls eye right on the team. Website now and He was great one. Time a couple years ago sermons in Charlotte he said I just got back just came up from Jupiter a changing diapers today. That's whatever whatever maybe it was. Maybe it wasn't but it sounded like a good story. So He's you know he's been good he'd come come around but he interesting thing is he never comes to Chicago. Ever given the All Star game this year he never even came out and made an appearance so it was a remarkable but maybe now with the you said with the timing of the Lebron. He's actually a figure for this era. Were than any because you know. This is not an era of death know. This is an era of you know like success highlights at you know and limbs pronounce that and he sort of fits perfectly into this. Because he's you know he's he well-spoken good looking you know and it comes up. What heartaches time he's like he's like involved perfectly into this zero. What did the documentary not capture? If you're going to have one one item I to me. It's like based on a true story. Seeing a lot of I think everything that talking about basically happened elements of it over you know get forgotten about you know like like when he provoked the Pistons into that walkout. He really did. They're up three out of bowls in with to practice the day before number sitting there and he just eviscerates this two-time champion three times finals team as unworthy. They shouldn't be a champion the NBA should take away their trophies. And that's really what motivated to do. This wasn't is walkout that you know this revisionist history. The Pistons came up with later. And you know I also love the the Seinfeld festivus thing. Where he's airing of all his grudges still thirty years later. You know krause and Isaiah everybody making fun of Gary Payton. How dare challenge me? It's been amazing stuff it's been it's been just great stuff to watch. Yeah and it's it's your right is based on a true story because Michael's team is helping produce. This and Michael. Gets the last word with everything. So it's I look I enjoy it because it's a chance to let people in know the window into our world back then Sam when it was pretty crazy following the bowls. You did it every day. I was there for the finals and I as I told people back then and and remind them now Michael every NBA finals. That I was there for espn he would tell the PR guy. Tim Hallam any would say. Tim would communicate. Mike's after every win he'll do would after every championship which we win the championship. He'll come in and he's going to do the interview with young sportscenter. I I mean that was magical i. I was so lucky that I was there to help document that and you know. I forever indebted to ESPN allowing me to have that moment to capture that with Michael Jordan. Whether I have a relationship or you know he likes me or didn't want me in the documentary. I couldn't care less. I was there to see that upfront. Personal and that was magical. That really was. It was a magical magical time when you go through history you know. And it's your day to day life. You sort of realized that at the Gettysburg address. Not sure after that. But I'm sure those people you know in Gettysburg listened to Lincoln going wealthed thinking two hundred years from now. People are going to be talking about this and asking me where I was. And that's what we're running into the airport. We're trying to catch the next plane. Get to the that but also reminds me. You mentioned Tim. Hallam with that reminds me of what it was like what Michael because even before just before the championships we'd be traveling in. Everybody wanted to see him. And you see a lot of these you know after the game celebrities very seinfeld around and whoever so we Washington one time and somebody came in and said to him about this queen from some European country or set wanted to see Michael and my They came in and Michael City was busy being taped. Whatever ten eight queen in every city do realize this sam? I don't know if anybody ever did a story on this. And maybe you could tell me if it's true or not. Every time I interviewed Jordan WanNa title every single time..

We never had a conversation about the book. Never once. He's never said a word about it. He's never asked about it. He's been very professional about exact I. was on the beat back on the be a long time ago with him after that never laughed and so what happened was I actually was? which is the one little resentment? I was having people say well, you know. There was deep throat as horace grant was your deep throat or something, which is completely. In March fart influenced by Bob Ryan who I read for many years at the globe on eastbound, a new stand in Washington and pick up the Sunday Globe and read all those great Sunday notes columns and Bob was one of my inspirations for what I wanted to do. You Exchange People's lives. You gotta go and see them daily. The story comes out you go, stand in front of them, and you say to them, because in effect of Sin, but the symbolism was. You have to stand behind what you're right now. Always the message to me so when the book came out. Now it was chaos in Chicago because the narrative was. Runs over this one and done now, because Sam Smith is blown up the teaming exposed all this internal division, and they can never win and to bad Chicago which got anybody to blame point. He's the guy. is so things were a little tense at the time? But, hey I walked up. Jordan Locker, room, in you remember Bob. The players always going through that tickets and he's got his tickets..
