"The lineup. How is he? What? Suppose he's doing? Much better? The swelling has gone down and his elbow we feel like he can give us his best effort, and even if he's not fully back at 100% We will take 90% of Buster Posey or 85% of Buster Posey any day, just a great professional back there and he's gonna give us a good about it was Logan Webb, who is starting tonight and Jake McGee back on the active roster. What were the moves to get them there to get those guys on the 26? We had the FAA God because he's out of options and we options. Sam Selman, who will stay on the taxi squad for with us for the duration of this trip, and head back to San Francisco, with us Now facing this Phillies lineup, and they have a little bit of a different lineup. Reese Hoskins, for instance, is not in there and they also have Andrew McCutchen is not in there. They've replaced both of them with left handed hitters. Against Web So tell us about Web going up against this particular Phillies lineup. Webb's going to do the same thing that he did all spring training and that he's done in his early starts this season, which is Execute with this basketball. Make sure that he continues to rip his changeup. Even if he's not throwing it for strikes immediately. Yes, to kind of stay with that pitch. It's a great weapon, one of the better change ups in the game. And you're right. It is a different line up with the Phillies are throwing out there today. Sweet swinging Maddy Joyce and the leadoff spot at some familiarity with Matt. He's my teammate on Ben Brad Miller, who I had in Philadelphia Think the world of Brad Excellent hit her off the bench but also an occasional start and you can you can really hurt you. You can hit the ball out of the ballpark anywhere and he's a patient hitter. He causes walk, so we certainly have our work cut out for us with heavy left handed hitting hitting lot of the Phillies were thrown out there. But but what? He's been throwing the ball really well. And in that last outing out of the bullpen, we saw him attack. The strikes don't work fast, push the pace and pound his own. Those are things that we're gonna ask him to do. It doesn't matter who the opposing line it is. Those are those are some of the keys to his success, and we couldn't help but notice that last night as you were presented a lineup card at home plate with the umpires, the Philly fanatic was giving you the business acting as if he were Doing his workout regimen and whatnot. What is your relationship with the fanatic? Oh, man, we were tight when we were when I was here and Philadelphia, But, you know, as you know, John, when when you leave when you leave the pinstripes. Fanatic may not always be on your side. Now we had a We had a lot of fun while I was here, and it was fun to interact with them a little bit last night before the game a lot, a lot of respect for the lightness and the humor and The costume. The whole nine. The Philly fanatic is It is a great product. All right, Here we go. Giants Phillies Game two of the serious and that's the game Kappler show for today. Pelant.

"The sports leader sponsor violin, Arden's markets, quite simply All right. Welcome into extra innings to the Giants, losing in Scottsdale today 8 to 6 to the Kansas City Royals, but I wanted to bring you up to some news for the Giants is the Giants have signed left hand pitcher Jose Alvarez to a one year contract. With a club option for 2022. The Giants announces during the game today Jose Alvarez to a one year major league contract worth 1.15 million. The contract also includes a club option for 2022. In a corresponding move right hand picture Jordan Humphries was claimed off waivers by the San Diego Padres. Alvarez posted a 142 earned run average one earned run in six and a third innings last year with the Philadelphia Phillies in eight appearance before he got struck with a line drive in August. 20th And did not end the season on the roster. Right hand hitters 33 for 15 with one extra base hit off of him. 31 years old. He is now property of the San Francisco Giants. He'll be in Scottsdale soon, but today what a great game Johnny Cueto, That was what I was looking forward to see Johnny Cueto how he was going to come out this year. And boy he put on a show for two winnings. When you start looking at him one pitch first pitch. It's a pop up to Crawford that he strikes out to second hitter. Then he strikes out that third header. He only threw eight pitches, eight pitches and he struck out to in the first inning. Second any came right back Salvador Perez, the great catcher the Royals have had since their world serious run. He struck him out with a 94 mile an hour fastball a nice rise ball through it by him. Solar was the only one who hit a double often came back and struck out Ryan O'Hearn with a nice change up and then sure enough, he got a ground ball off Dozier to end the inning with working two innings. Two Beautiful innings, one hit. Four strikeouts. A couple relievers threw the ball real well, Sam Selman again with a nice, solid inning, one inning with one walk Matt Whistler again his second inning. So far this spring, he's been hitless. And then, of course, Camilla Duval, the po the picture that everybody loves the lightning fast 98 Mile, an hour fastball as well as a changeup. He worked one inning and striking out too. Couple pictures that didn't fare well, weighty. Peralta gave up three runs three earned. Trevor got gave up a home run and Luis Gonzalez for time. First time on the mound with the Giants did not last the full inning in the ninth through 26 pitches, and they pulled him after two thirds. The Giants play pretty well lost 8 to 6. Three errors to buy Wilson at third base throwing error, and Luciano missed one through his legs. Luciano is just having a struggle so far, striking out twice again today and in a fielding air 19 years old. He's learning the big leagues the hard way. But this is what you want. You want him to learn the hard way, so he only gets better boy. He's got a lot of talent, too. Get away can be our if you want to get on the phone lines with me. We're gonna take that show till five o'clock at a great interview with Tyler Beatty as we continue the show and I ate away came BR if you won't hit me up Twitter. At last the 19. If you want to use your phone, fax, you can fax any questions to 4158856 to 7 Fishes and studios producer today? And also Shawn's are working the board and appreciate both of them in studio as I bring you extra innings, but some of the things that happened today Evan Longoria, what a great he started a D. H. Today. He's got some problems with planner. Fast See itis, which is the foot problem says not a big problem. But they started about a D. H, and he came up in the third inning with bases loaded in a nice double boy. That's what we want to see outta him a double. It cleared the bases, and the Giants really scored four runs that inning in the third inning. And then the home run by Solano leading off the fifth was very nice. Solano taken 6 Ft. 6 240 pounder Jonathan Boland. Real big picture for the Kansas City Rusty come out to left Field first home run first Solano this year. It's nice to see it. Starting lineup pretty much in order. They'll Estella one for three. Hit the ball. Well, you strip ski tooken over to got a nice walk. Donovan Solano went one for three with a home run. Buster went over to got hit by a pitch. Evan Longoria. Ended up going one for two with a double three R B I's cross to two at two at bats. Rough had three at bats. Jason Vossler Ah gentlemen that we need to start paying attention to. He is really hitting the ball well. Today was up three times. They gave him an error on the ball, hit deep to right field and ended up a triple, but they ended up giving the right fielder and error. He came back up and forth in and got a nice double The left center field and I got a base hit in the sixth inning. He went two for three score two runs, and Jalen Davis got a nice base hit. After the error by Vossler when he came up to third jail, and Davis got a bloops single to left center field. Gotta run and got his first at bat of the spring. So a lot of positives today Solano, the home run Longoria with a double Vossler, who's really showing Ah, lot of potential played left field today, and he's usually AH, utility infielder. But these are all things we can talk about is we continue on extra innings. Eight. Awake can be. Our phone lines are open. You know some of the things that were going on in spring training, we'd talk about it all the time. Things were changing guys. They're getting opportunities to pitch guys. They're getting opportunities to play. Sure, the Giants have not one there. 13 and 21 win two losses and two ties..

Donovan Solano Ryan O'Hearn Luis Gonzalez Jonathan Boland Jose Alvarez Tyler Beatty Jason Vossler Evan Longoria Matt Whistler Johnny Cueto Sam Selman Trevor Camilla Duval Jalen Davis Jordan Humphries Salvador Perez Philadelphia Phillies San Francisco Giants San Diego Padres Luciano

"To try to pepper it down to what you're looking for. Smart teams called. That's what they do. They check in smart general managers looking to see how they can improve their team. Russell Wilson would improve nearly every team in the NFL. All right, last one before we get out here, our last piece of sound. This came from a Mark Willard show on Wednesday night. He had stamps Selman Giants left handed reliever who actually think is a pretty nice players. 29 years old, but a lot of time in the minor leagues of the eight seasons in the minor leagues get out of Vanderbilt, Previously on the Royals, I think he was drafted by it's been around the league for a little bit, at least as a journeyman, minor leaguer. The question for you gun to your Head Carrie right now, who's the closer for the San Francisco Giants? In 2021? There's no way I can answer that. Jake McGee, Jake McGee, can I say that? I mean, he's the he's the guy with the most experience, but yeah, it's wide open. We'll pump the brakes there were talking Jake McGee, for we got a left and right way. Gotta left you right here on the Mark Willard show on KNBR from Wednesday and he says he might like an opportunity to close here, Sam Selman. Yeah. I mean, I love to do it. I had a had a little bit experience. My first one against Seattle last year. That was That was a lot of fun and a good time. And I definitely love to be in the role again. And we're definitely gonna have Ah, lot of guys competing for that role. Everyone can fill it in. And I honestly maybe a closer by committee for a little while rolling the hot hand and see how it goes from there, But, um, Yeah, well, we'll see what ends up happening in spring training and I'll get it all sorted out. Okay. Two things he wrote on two ideas there that I'm not Super Fund of a It seems something Closing be. It's It's closer by committee man. I don't know any team in baseball history. No harsh on himself. I got no qualms with Selman himself, but I'm like looking at, you know what's he got, like eight games finished in his big league career. I think he's got eight saves.

"80. Tyler Rogers has gone out to the mound. I'm taking his warmups Herewith. Bourbon. Do up To start the inning. But the Mariners set out Oh, say. Marmolejo. As a pinch hitter. And at that point Gabe Kapler out of the Giants dugout, and he has Signal to the bullpen for The left hander Sam Selman. So it is Salman comes in Downey's Marmolejo. Left handed hitter and then The leadoff man after him and that is J. P. Crawford, another left, So we get a couple of lefties anyway. When it's time for a change. "Back to the orange and black on KNBR, the sports leader. The Padres complete the sweep of the doubleheader over the Giants with a 3 to 1 victory here in the night cap. Padres had three runs six hits with one error and left three runners on base. The Giants had one run three hits, No errors with five runners left aboard. And for the Giants, only one running five hits and the whole double header. After being a shutout by Levinger, who pitched a two hitter in Game one. The winning pitcher of game to Tim Hill in relief. Richards did not pitch the required five innings to qualify for a win. A hill became the picture of record when he came in with one out. And got the final two outs of the Giants fifth inning. So he is three and oh. Trevor Rosenthal with his 10th save. He's 10 for 10, converting his save opportunities. The losing pitcher Sam Selman. Now one on one, will Myers had the game's only home run. And the doubleheaders only home run his 12th homer of the year. Two hours 12 minutes the time of the game here in game, too, so the Padres continued to roll. And they have gone what 20 and five in the last 25 games. As they go into a Siri's with the Dodgers starting tomorrow. The Giants. Meanwhile, We'll spend the night in San Diego before they head off to Seattle, where they'll begin a two game Siri's with the Mariners on Tuesday. At Safeco Field. "Brutal. I think we quickly found the dog days of summer here. How are you, Bill? I'm doing good, Mark. I want to get right into this hot bullpen and all these arms and first thing off. The Giants have won 20 games and I was looking at this last night. The starters of only 17 of them. 13 winds out of the bullpen. Of course, Bar guards got five. Salmon's Got one. Garcia's got to Watson's Got one. Rogers one got one men as one, Peralta one. This is the change of baseball. There's no doubt about it. The starters aren't getting you know, deep into the Games been the first part of the 60 game season. What about this pulpit? Absolutely. And there is the big beneficiary that he suddenly have among the most Winton baseball just he's their fifth or sixth inning guy. You know, the fireman that comes out and extinguishes whatever jam that Johnny Cueto where whoever left for him. And he's been really good at that role in that role lends itself to win because the Giants offense can come alive after that, and suddenly he's in position for pretty. Suddenly, the giant open has become a weapon for them. I don't think they'd Kappler felt more comfortable with the guys. And then he has right now. I mean, you look around here hasn't given up unearned run all year 12 innings that, uh, picking up two runs in total, No learned. Sam Selman is maybe the find of the year and striked out. Everyone barrier has been great. Tony Walking has been great little lefty guys. When you look at Rogers, he's been pretty good. You would like that last Dominant righty arm, and they're still searching for it. But absolutely they very quickly. You know, at the beginning of the year that we the weakness, and over the last couple weeks, it's become a star. Then they kind of picked up a rightie. They prod in Rico Garcia just to have another right arm down there and Andrew stores that got sent out. But you know, when you start looking at Lefty's writing, these lefties have just been magnificent. I mean, you talk about someone, Burger and Garcia, all three of these guys weren't even around. That we're even. They were talked about When you first went to spring training one These guys were Garcia wasn't even here. And the other two lefties were more or less add ons. Maybe getting an inning here and ending here. And now look at they solidified the left side that bullpen. Absolutely. I think it's Salman, who was First of all, we're nearly out of baseball a couple years ago, and then this spring training. He was among the first demoted Tio minor league camp where they didn't think you were throwing enough strike. The guy whose only got two pitches. He also can't hit the strike zone that that's a real issue. And then he was he did get invited to camp eventually to camp 2.0 on, start throwing more strikes and Another fastball got a little bit faster that he had been working out a lot, and but the slider has become really a devastating pitch. The guys are not picking up on, um, very quickly. You know, he came from other nowhere to become. Maybe they're most reliever at this point. So yesterday you wrote about the defense and I can't tell you had three Gold glove winners out there yesterday and rough. Dickerson and Flores, all three of them made spectacular place. And I know you were wondering how did that happen? And where did that come from? Tell me your thoughts when you watch those guys. It was absolutely bizarre. Before the game. I was talking with Mark Willard. Uh, he said, you know, you look at the right side of the infield and that at the very spot right? And I said, absolutely, and look to the left of the outfield, and that's the worry spot, too. Where you put in Solano it second where he's struggled in putting Flora's at first, because you can't be a everyone putting rocket left because you can't be eight. Everyone they were. They were trying to hide those gloves on. Uh, you know, the the ball found them and they actually came through and floors of play, especially charging on that front where he got a really nice read on it and threw a strike and chop also with a night bag. Overall above average Major league players employees has been around a long time. You hope that even more serviceable fielder than he looked at me from the party this year really all of the red flag. You would think came through big time yesterday. Even Delano, who didn't make a play in the infield, then came through with a home run. Oh, yeah, that's that's why he's out there, so it was a really remarkable and unexpected game. We're listening to Mark Mark Sanchez on can be our pregame show another another great hitter finally coming back to where we saw him Yesterday. It was Donovan Solano. Three for three with a walking single double and a home run. Dani barrels really barreled up yesterday. Absolutely. I'm really curious about him this year, because if you dig into the advanced tap his habits, his batting average with balls in play last year was over 400 on what that essentially means is You know when he has found a hole and usually hire one indicates that your average is going to come down over time. And yet this year again is very high..

"Start out at Oracle Park today for the Giants of the dime bags who played a surprisingly close Siri's here. I don't know about you when I watched these two teams, and the results have shown this throughout the year. So far, the Giants are way better than the time and backs especially when you look at it this week, and the Diamondbacks actually sent some of their best players out. A tea at the trade deadline. They went into sale Mo. They were one of the very few teams Who did decide to do that, And so, therefore I think it's important. The Giants. You know it's baseball. You're going to lose one here or there, but I think if if my memory is on point here today, it isn't always there. But when it is Six and two, I think is the Giants record against the D backs so far this year and one of the losses being that game Friday night, which, as I was just mentioning, certainly felt like the Giants. Should have won this one. They'll go against lefty Alex Young today for the D'backs, another lefty. We talked a moment ago about how the Giants How about a lot of success together? Sanders to and you're also watching Gabe Kapler start to do some things that they weren't necessarily doing at the beginning of the year, and I want to talk about that for a second. You're watching Brandon Belt being the lineup against Madison, Bumgarner and Donovan Solano is not OK. Well, so why wasn't floors at first in Solano? Its second or something like that? You're watching Alex Dickerson get a lot of it bats this week. Because his hot and he's taking advantage of those situations. He's had some good games. Against lefties use. Stransky has always been someone who they've liked his splits against righties and lefties, so they're willing to go ahead and put him out there. It'll be interesting to see what they do now that Austen Slater is back. I'm sure he's on DH. I haven't even looked at the lineup yet today but against the lefty, I'm sure he's in there again. And and But will he get some at bats against right handers? He was starting Tio before he got hurt. So what? I'm watching this staff D'oh. And over the first three weeks, they took a lot of lumps from fans. And and in some cases, deservedly so. There were pitching moves that that we're head scratchers. There was Kappler trying to make a pitching change when he couldn't The lineup sometimes would be frustrating. You could make the case He's stuck with Pence one too many times. Could you make that case about Pablo Sandoval now? It just didn't feel like someone being hot would earn them a trip into the lineup. Instead, it sort of just felt like We're going to go by the rules that we've set. What? I actually think that Wass I I think that the Giants like many teams, but especially the Giants, a lot of new players and new staff, a new regime a 60 game season, all kinds of new protocols. There was a really half T feeling out period. For the staff to know who should go where and when. And I don't even think it's complete yet. Hell you're noticing now save situation in the ninth inning. Who do they go to? Hell? You have no idea. Is it code Rod? He had a shot last week. It went well. But then things have been bumpy since Sam Selman is starting to have that look. Although I still think they like him, maybe more situationally. Don't forget. Selman was the closer in Sacramento all year last year and was lights out. And then there's Tony Watson, who closed the game last night. That's old, reliable. That's your veteran presence. I think there's some some comfort there. They're nowhere near ready to go back Tio Trevor Gott. Specially with him giving up another homerun in yesterday's game, So the ball pen movement is still something that Kappler Is is playing with, however, the lineup. I feel like they've now got a beat on it. They have now got it figured out. A little bit better. Who could do what? What's the right moment for the right guy? I know there's some frustration about defense of replacements. How early do we go to that? Some people looked at that and Colorado Wednesday. Should Wilmer Flores still have been at first base in the sixth inning? I kind of thought sixth innings a little early for a defense of replacement. However, you could make the case. Colorado had an all right handed bullpen. So why not just put belt in there anyway? Because it's not like his bat has been a problem. Quite the opposite. He's been amazing. But Florence has been good to do You want to take him out and I get all these This debate and and that's the same debate that they're having. So not all of these questions have unease, e answer, But aren't you starting to feel Like there. They've got a bead on what's supposed to happen with the lineup. They've been making better decisions. They're the team looks more confident the errors are going away. The shouting numbers air there and you're seeing it in the standings. I mean, I know as a fan you looking and you go or still in 19 and 21. Well, they were eight and 16. They were eight and 16. So if you're going to cut this season up into thirds, approximately, you want to take this middle Third, the giant have been a very good baseball team. Very good baseball team, and they're starting rotation came into form as well. Remember, at the beginning of the year? Nobody knew what was going on there. Do you remember that? It feels like a long time ago. You remember the first three weeks for like, Who's starting? I don't know. Actually, we do know, but we're not telling you what you're gonna tell us seven minutes before first pitch. And then at a certain point you could get to where you could guess. Yeah, I think they're Smiley's. Don't throw them up. Yeah, and he did. And then they had a couple injuries. Smiley goes down. Shark goes down. Cahill comes into the fold. And you've had some moments where guys have been allowed to throw 100 pitches. Tyler Anderson had the complete game. Logan Web out along one. Cueto has had a couple of long ones. And it got into a flow Now there are some questions still out there. Cahill came into last night. Start with the hip issue. They felt like he was okay. Hey, did not go very far into the game. Drew Smyly looms when he returns. Who goes out when he comes in Tyler Anderson starting to struggle a little bit. Shark is still out there as the big unknown. Um I heard a discussion yesterday about Whether or not the Giants would want to entertain resigning shark next year And as I was driving around listening to it, I was like, Oh, no, not like that is a hard pass. That's a hard no. And I love shark. I've always loved the way he plays sports. I remember watching him as a wide receiver at Notre Dame. I've loved the way he talks to other people, and he's a thoughtful person. I do not think He is a smart, analytic signing after this year. For a baseball team. I just don't I think you're watching the MPH fall off. You're watching the movement fall off. There are a lot of home runs. I don't think so. But that brings me to a point about Johnny Cueto, who is in the giant's rotation next year. I'm gonna let that question. Sit there for a second, so you could think about it, who is in the giant's rotation? Next year. And did we get a clue in trying to answer that question is too why Johnny Cueto didn't get dealt. I still get texts and tweets and everything on a daily basis should have traded Cueto. Should've traded Guardsmen should have done this and that And we say that without knowing Anything about what was or wasn't offered. We don't know the Giants willingness to deal Cueto. We have no idea what was offered..

"A good friend Mark Simon is going to join me from sports info solutions that we're going to talk a few things about baseball and seen what could be possibly and trade deadline here. Next 24 48 hours and some other stuff. Let's welcome in Mark. Simon, How are you this morning Mark. I am good. Like you. I was a rookie in 1982. That was my first year watching baseball were rookies together. I guess we've had a long career together that Hallmark. Yeah, exactly. Well, I tell you one of the biggest things that happened yesterday was this giantsbullpen? They were outstanding. Every bit of them. Even Trevor got given up a triple on and hold him at third. What did you see in this bullpen yesterday? And what do you seek moving down the road with him? I think they were fortunate. I think it's really hard to get five guys to put up a euro for an inning. They've done a couple of times this year. But this is like the first time in about a month. I think if you have to ask you that repeatedly, I think that's very challenging. I think it was good to Trevor got got another shot at big on DH. You know, I didn't necessarily looks fantastic, but it looked good enough. There are little sparks with some of these guys here and there. I just feel like we haven't seen enough of someone like Caleb or Sam Selman to really get a feel for for what they are just yet, but a couple of them have have shown some good signs a different points this year, 20 Watts and being probably best You were speaking of Mark Simon. This morning. I tell you one of the guys that everybody talks about the same kun Rod and how hard he throws, of course, 101 yesterday, but we've always talked about his control. He just seems to throw instead of pitch and Last night gave capital on the postgame show. He has said repeatedly. We just want him to throw strikes. It doesn't matter if he has to hit a glove or not. We're just Trying to slow him down mentally so he can focus a little bit more. Tell me your thoughts about Sam Conrad moving forward. Yeah, He needs to get more. He needs to throw more strikes. But that means you need to have more chases. If you look at his face rate this year, it's 19%. And just to put a number to kind of, like, all right, How do you perceive that 19% bad should be getting 25 to 30% chases? Which means that either the hitters know what's coming and you're tipping them off in some way, or you're throwing on competitive pitches. I think that would be an area of what I would be looking for with him. Hey, is getting a decent swing and miss rate on his stuff because Detroit 100 won, But he needs that kind of that second thing Todo with 101 to make that even more effective and to give him another option to get out. I tell you what, Marky. He struck out looking Stephen Vogt wasn't vote. I'm looking here real quick over my notes yesterday on a changeup. It was Stephen Vogt. In the seventh inning, and I tell you what I just was in the sixth inning, sixth inning. Those pearls are my my mistake. It was just a shock or because he was throwing 101 in 99 drops a change of bottom to walk off the mound. Those are the things that encourages all young pitchers if they can throw a third pitch in there besides just the fastball, breaking ball, and and if he could get that, even over the plate, even for Ah, ball like you're saying out of the zone? That's just another. Piece of the arsenal. He can throw out there and he's such a young, inexperienced pitcher so far. What do you think about a third pitch out of Coon Rod? Yeah. I think that would help. If you would help. The curveball has not been what it was in the 25 issuing that we saw last year so I would worry with him just to find a second one at this point. On the third one hopefully comes I feel like and you would have a much better handle on this. Probably that I would is that that this is something that comes with with the territory of being a young pitcher, and that you really get a feel for something like this. You know, it's taking our third year once he kept innings on their belt on if he's going off on one That's generally pretty good scientist starts. It sure is, And I'll tell you he was out on the aisle with a latte problem. That's come back. Very good. And I just want to see him do this more consistently. I think you and I both looking at analytics with him. He has a good one and a bad one and Hey, has to scratching and get that out of his mind and build his confidence and in back to back innings are back to back games. So let's.

"Probably could not have done it any better than he did. He was tapping pictures that came in in key situations. It's so funny in watching baseball and I 70 early this season. I don't know if it has to do with the pandemic if it has to do with with Ah, maybe she's taking a bigger liking in me talking about talking about Thank you gave him talking about sashes. Interest in what's going on with the Giants, and last night. We laid down to go to bed now, usually what'll happen is if we go to bed before the ball game's over. I usually just let her watch TV and I'll throw the game upon the tablet or on my phone or a lot of times. I'll just throw the earbuds in if it's if it's like the last inning, and last night when I lay down, it was not When I look down last night, it was like the sixth inning and we were in bed for a while watching some baseball because, as I said, this thing just felt like it was not going to go The Dodger way. Even when the Giants were down now, three nights in early I was like, man, What a bummer! Max Muncy three run shot of his birthday. This is gonna be a tough one. And then here comes Brannan built the ties the game, and then it kind of became the game where things were getting away from Joey Bark a little bit behind the plate. Johnny Cueto struggled. He and Bart had not worked together previously seemed like it took them maybe a minute to get on the same page. But we're laying in bed and it's like the sixth inning. Maybe must have been the sticks. I have to look at exactly what the ending was maybe the seventh And Juan de Peralta comes into pitch and she said, How is this guy? Well, well, you know, it's it's I think at the time it was 6 to 4. Maybe it was 6 to 4. Yeah, because then Joey Bart had the double play and the following inning that was reviewed with by the way at a horrible, terrible call by the first base umpire to call Joey Bart. Safe on the double Playing upon review wasn't even really close that Muncie beat him to the bag after leaping in the air to Ah, To catch the throw coming from Kiki Hernandez, anyway. She says. Has this wanted Peralta Gandhi said, And he's not very good hasn't been very good. He's he's You know, he's been in the bigs as I think he was at the Red's last year. I just wasn't too high on him coming in that situation, and she said, Well, 264 game it's a close game. Why would you put a guy in who's not all that great? In this situation, I said, Well, that's kind of the way baseball goes. If you're losing, especially in the later innings if it's a close enough game, then yeah, you try to stave it off and you try to bring in one of your better guys, But generally you save your better guys, and when you just have a few of them like the Giants, do you save them for when the game is tied or when you have the lead? Well, they bringing Wanda Peralta and he gets four outs and he gets all four guys that he faces. And she says to me Well, is that going to be a crucial thing if they come back and win the ball game, and I said, Yeah, no, I don't think so. I don't think anybody points to the sixth inning middle relief. Why, when you're losing now, and I said, if they come back, it's going to be all about to come back out of the offense. Make it happen. Who's the guy that made it happen? Brandon belts, two home runs and five R B eyes, and he was one triple shy of the cycle. All of that came into play, and then you look at the nine guys. Gabe Kapler ran out there, and it's so funny. I woke up this morning and I was thinking about it again. After sleeping on that comment that I said to Sachin just kind of brushing her off like Yeah, the middle relief is never going to be the story. This isn't the This isn't a big deal. Well, it wass. It was. They went seven scoreless innings did the Giants relief pitchers and you can say Well, they give up runs in the ninth and the 10th or Excuse me in the 10th inning. The 11th. Those are both unearned and I'm not going to count them and look what we can say. Well, they went seven scoreless innings. If a team comes in in the second, and they take you to the ninth. It's not about the seven under roads. It's that the two runs that were given up where the two runs that were placed on second base. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna cripple Tyler Rogers and Sam Selman for allowing those runs. You just can't do that was it was it? I think those were the two guys. The last two guys who pitched. I know, I know. Roger's gave over an inning are had over in your work. It was actually Harlan Garcia was the other one who gave up the unearned run, but seven scoreless from the Giantsbullpen and they were fantastic. So you've got to give some credit. Andy's wars came in and sort of quietly gets the four out to give a born head get four of the five guys that he faced. Trevor got two thirds of an inning wanted Peralta's I say he retired all four guys that he faced on 17 pictures. Sam Kun Rod With a with a big out where he got Jack Peterson on 100 1 Mile an hour fastball. Sam Kun ride back out there, Throw in flames. That's a guy that maybe if he's healthy, could be in the conversation. He works himself back into it and work himself into a into a little stretch here where he's getting consistent outs that he could be a guy you consider for the ninth inning. Definitely one to keep on the table. Shawn Anderson. I didn't like what he did last night, a third of an inning hits and a walk, but but he didn't get one out there. Kayla Berg are gets the to Ah to out any It's one strike out here. Harlan Garcia, who I think is becoming one of the late inning. Guys. Harlan Garcia's been fantastic since he's been brought up and he's been tough from the left side. Tyler Rogers as we said, an inning and a third, he goes one hit one run and two strikeouts. And then Sam Selman gets his first win of the season after Donovan Solano, a walk off home run. Now there's a couple other notes. We got to get you from this game. It is a historic victory for the San Francisco Giants against the Dodgers, and I saw a note in a bunch of them were Around last night, and this morning. It is the first game tying or go ahead home run against the Dodgers in the ninth inning or later by a giant. In 23 years. I just was a game tying home run, not go ahead because I know Dan or Meyer wants the walk off against the tortures on Ah, Friday night back in, like 2006, or eight or somewhere in there. Somewhere in the Dan or admire Kevin friends in era..

"Gold star of the game. He came in through two perfect getting striking out three. Today he went back to the mound. Gabe Kapler went back with Tyler Rogers today and I came into a situation a runner on first base with one out. And he proceeded to go to a Justin Turner and Turner got a base hit on the third pitch. And you got Max Muncy on a nice fastball inside on a strike three called and sure enough, he goes three on a J. Pollock. And its decision to come in 32 of the slider heard him and ended up losing the game as a J. Pollock hit his fourth home run over the left field fence. And that's kind of what Gabe Kapler was saying. Hey, he wants to keep throwing him out there. He's Ah, good trick picture. Come in that middle of the game 6 7/8 inning to get toe to get to Ah got and today just didn't work out. He standing behind him and And that's what a manager is supposed to do. So kudos. Agave capper to stick up for Tyler Rogers. All right, the Giants are off to Ah, Houston Right now They're playing three games from a 10 game road trip. And we're going to see what the Houston Astros are up to. They've lost five in a row going back home, and the Giants are seven and 10 walking into their Ah Minute Maid ballpark and the Astros or six and nine, starting off the season, so they have had some troubles with their pitching in their bullpen. All right, let's get to the phone lines. Phone lines are open. Ate away can be ours. If you want to join the fun with me tonight, let's get to Paulie. I guess Paul. He's driving on Highway 101 How are you doing, Polly? I'm fine. Can you hear me? I can hear your buddy. What do you got to tell me? While we're on the same topic of Gabe Kapler. I wanted to just make a quick comment, by the way. Thank you for having me on. It's an honored its copy All always following any time. Pick up the phone and call a Zeta way. KNBR you called number We got you. Thank you a 50 year Well, 54 year baseball fan, and so I remember y'all. It's a big deal anyway. So it was the thing about Capt. Whereas I think that he is so Analytically oriented that it's a little soul. This and I want to talk about some things, and I think that he is. It's my Ah, hunch that he has not given, But Brandon's felt in Crawford leadership and mentorship rolls like they should have, and I have a feeling I have a hunch. That's why they're kind of And open there moping around there. Not that I have been a giant fan forever. I am too. And I'm saying I'm saying the same thing. These guys their leaders in your in your dugout. I mean, it's it's excellent. You know, and they think they should be given the opportunity or encouraged to do that. I think it would out about caterpillars, pitching hay being judged. I get analytics. They're so important, but Berg and I think you gotta go with like the individuals. Heard, you know the situation is stable. Cueto is not young love Johnny Cueto. He's an 80 pitch pitcher. He's been marvellous the last game for 80 pitches and then the ultimate you both both of the last game. Gausman could've gone 85. And these air, not numbers needs air. Just hunches of thinking like Jasmine, younger and stronger. Quite. You know, I just don't think he has much soul Tio. And I'm hoping he developed that I don't not going. I don't agree with his decision making or style very much. You gotta have a little more hard in my opinion. Yeah. A lot of times, Paulie. We We always talk about the eye test. You always hear about managers and coaches saying Hey, you, Khun! Give me all these statistics. But what I'm watching the game and watching what these players are doing. That's telling me how they're reacting that day. How they react how smooth they are, how comfortable they are. Kevin Gausman just came out, he said. I My limit is not 80 pitches. And it seems like, uh, Kappler thought that and and he thought he should have pitched at least one or two more hitters. He just came out in the post came saying that And he says, I'm disappointed, but I understand it's his decision to take me out. He's the manager, so I think we're hit and right on the head. I think Kevin Gausman want to do one more hitter and I would have done the same thing. Like I said earlier. Go out there. See how you feel, Patty mon that rear and go get him, You know, And that's where you get confidence from a manager That gives you that that boost you know, like, Hey, he's he watched me. I got a little more in my tank. I might throw this 99 miles an hour strikeout Turner, because that's what you want. You want that boost when you're when you're down. He's coming out. He never even talked to him. And he went right to the bullpen, and that's his decision. That's what a manager has to do. But when you got a guy throwing like Gausman today, you have to go out at least communicate with him. Absolutely. And I think he needs to start taking a little care of my boy. Johnny Cueto pull him after 80. Look at the numbers for just any pitches the last two outings. You know he's coming off the top of the surgery, not young, but still got his hand. He's a different on a picture now. But if he moves is just a little velocity on that fastball. They can hit a ball that Gausman go 90 like quite a low 80 and Tyler Rogers pitched two innings today before, but no matter what your laptop says, I think you got to go with somebody. Maybe that's one inning. We're didn't pitch it all. You've got some right handers down there. That could bring gas. Garcia being one. I know he had a struggle in Colorado, but These are guys you have to give confidence to and bring in a minute. Look what he did with Sam Selman the other day and some Marge's game He brought Sam Selman in bases loaded, nobody out and almost got out of it with a little bad handle on On Ah, Solano, its second, So you have to give some people some rope. You have to test the starters, and I keep reminding everybody today is their first quality start. That's more than that sixth innings arm or first time in 17 games. I should have pushed him a little more. A little bit more. That's my opinion. Thanks for your call. Paulie. Appreciate it. Thank you. Thank you. All right. We're going to go to Long Island, New York right now and talk to Peter and Peter. You're staying up with me late tonight, huh? It's not that late yet. Is it? Peter? It's not that late Bill and I'm used to long time Giants fan like Pauly and watch the game and I'm used to the games being this actually early game because most the games this year are late and for the East Coast, it's like they started 10. 30 Whatever, Which is not easy, so, yeah, I hear you have been on those post game shows that are started. 10. 30 11 lakhs. "I mean, like the boy, 11 curve, and in 95 I mean, my goodness. I mean, it's It's amazing how many guys are just nasty. And we'll see if they walk a ton because that will be the difference. I mean, both never would stand for walks out of the pen. I would imagine that we're going to Seymour walks out of the pen. But, man, they got a lot of nasty arms well, and you don't even mention Tyler Rogers, who doesn't even touch 90 on the gun. However, hey, started the game went 123 with two strikeouts, and we saw what he did at the end of last year. He is, Ah, perfect Giant because we're sitting here talking right now about it's a wacky season. It's a wacky team, and he might be the wackiest delivery I've ever seen where he almost touches the ground is he's throwing. He's a problem. So I mean this. This is the one thing I look at with this season. If you want to find teams that are supposed to do well, that might not, and then teams that aren't supposed to do well, that might To me the calling card of the Giants during the World Series years. We don't talk about him much. We talked about Lincecum, Cain and Bumgarner. We talkabout Posey. We talk about some of the hitters as well. The calling card when it comes to postseason baseball, and the reason why the Dodgers haven't actually broken through in the last decade is the word bullpen. Giants have always done it really? Well. Dodgers have always made that their last priority in a year where no one's going to throw more than three or four innings for the first half of the season. Doesn't the bullpen become an even bigger focus and everything you just focused on? Doesn't that potentially bode well? Four teams that just have Ah lot of arms that have weird stuff going on. The teams have not seen before, and you're going to keep throwing it at him all the time. Lefty righty righty Lefty. That that that's going to be a thing that's going to be a thing this year. I think all year long and I just I mentioned you yesterday show that of capital Start off with the righty Gausman and then went lefty lefty lefty right behind him. I could see him playing games like that this year, trying to gain advantages in the early innings and And we'll see if it works, But we haven't named guys like Sam Selman, who was I think, struck out the side last night. Jarland Garcia had a good spring with this team. Tony Watson's obviously the guy who's the established veteran. Race, Moran to could come off the late in the year. Maybe. I mean, they just got a lot of arms, so I don't know. You know the thing about it, too. Last night was weird. The ball was jumping now. Is that proof mentioned that the they closed the port walk right viewing area because people in the city of San Francisco doesn't want. You know, people congregating, right? They're congregating at all. And that would be a congregation spot. You would think s O. They just closed. Can you imagine how crowded that would be? If they open that thing up with the fact that no one can go to baseball games like It's kind of like the talk of Wrigley Field on top of the buildings across, you know, wave lender Sheffield or whatever it is out there in left field at Wrigley. If you have an opportunity to watch baseball from outside the season, Mike, you want to talk about a congregation. I can imagine thousands of people showing up trying to watch the right field Fats. Oh, my goodness. They don't want that. But the ball was jumpin. We'll talk more about the giant because they were very interesting. The last couple nights, but well, it's a giant's heavy show. Kirk Reader's going to join us at 2 30 Hang Schulman at three o'clock. The great Robb Nen is going to be in the house, Love Robin and man and we have talked to him in a while, He'll be by at four o'clock and shooting Babbitt, our good friend. Is going to buy us well, and you know, we're going to take some phone calls, so ate away. Can't br we've got some open line time after Hank Schulman in the three o'clock hour and we'll definitely have sometime towards the end of the show to pound out some phone calls, but we'll take your calls. What do you think? You know, Mark and I have got to come up with a wage, right? I mean, last year I've so far we should count up exactly what I've lost to you, but I've yet to beat you in a bet. Yeah. I don't want to count it up. I have it right here in my hip pocket. If you want. I've got a What is your What's the ledger? Well, the running total like we're in the back room of the bottom being right now, settling up the running total financially right now is hovering at about $135 but much more expensive for you. Was the entire week in a thong, for which we're still owed another day, And that will forever be a point of contention. No other day. I know the there was still a day left over and then it just kind of dissipated because no one wanted to be that person that I kept having to check and see if you were actually wearing it. And then the quarantine have checkers, though we did have check. We did we did And thank God. I was never one of those people. But but anyway, so I think we're $135. Ah, weak in a thong, and all told, I'm 50 But the world is giving us a message right now, By putting us together the day before the season starts. There absolutely has to be a wager. And Larry, I do have the first proposal for you whenever you're ready. Okay, we'll get to that. That's a great tease. I'll get you your veteran radio guy. You've done this before. "Away, And here comes Grossman. Diamondbacks are definitely expected to be a Contending team this year. Madison Bumgarner is going to be there Opening Day starter which would be Strange for all of us. Every Giants fan everywhere to watch, but he's going to be a big part of that team. They made it. Two or three offseason moves that I thought I looked pretty good. I finished second to the Dodgers last year. There's a swinging a foul by Grossman Back to the backstop Strike one. Grossman is grounded out. The third, had an infield single and grounded out to first. Batting left handed. Giants ahead 6 to 2 here in the last night, but excellent defensive team The D backs, and they picked up Starling Marta, who's an outstanding defensive centerfielder, the former pirate No. One pitch fouled out of play. That was kind of a hanging right over the heart of the plate. He found it out of play owing to the count. Giants ahead 62 here in the ninth. Now there's a fastball high and tight. 21 ball and two strikes. Let's get some action in their bullpen now Sam Selman, the left hander started.
