In your book, 31 remarkable people, 400 years, and the untold biography of the world's greatest city. Sam Roberts, tell us about it. Well, John, I had written a couple of other books history of New York at a 101 objects in 27 buildings. And I wanted to do a book about New York to people. And this book is our New Yorkers is really about a history of the city. It's a biography of the city told through 31 people you never heard of and their stories, quirky people, stories of that people you never heard of in history, books and guide books, but people who nonetheless were transformative or emblematic of something transformative in the city's history. And you are allowed to tell us at least one person in the book and tell us Audrey Munson, who's the first American actress to appear nude in motion pictures. If you look on the very top of the municipal building, there is Audrey months in space in the statue of civic theme, John J we heard of him, but he's in the book for southern you never heard of Congress wanted him to be Secretary of State in 1785. He said, okay, I'll be Secretary of State if you move the capital of the United States from Triton to New York City. And by moving the capital to New York City to saved New York City after 7 years of brutal British occupation during the Revolutionary War, Jack maples, a guy who in the middle of the crime waves of the 1980s, 1990s, saved the city by coming up with that concept program. Something I'm sure you're familiar with. And John Coleman, who is the first recorded murderer of the European in New York in 1609. So people like that, people who could have made a difference in their own way in the city's history. That sounds like a remarkable book. I look forward to buying it and reading it. I'm successfully moved into a high lunar orbit. This is an amazing particular mission. People hopefully have watched some of the close encounters that Orion's had with the moon some 80 miles above the surface. But John, this particular spacecraft, the Artemis rocket, has it got out into the earth's orbit. Its second stage lost ten of these little CubeSat satellites. These are little experimental satellites that have all kinds of things that they're doing for scientific research. Well, some of them worked in some failed, but it was an exciting one, but sadly we know it failed. Japan's almost a nashi little tiny spacecraft with 32 pounds. It was supposed to be the first lunar lander, the smallest little satellite ever to land on the moon. It would do so by having solar power as it went around the moon and used a little airbag when it dropped onto the surface, but sadly, that particular spacecraft has gone missing. That's very sad. But John, we always talk about your show about so many of these mysteries too. So this is interesting. So I wanted to bring up today if you don't mind, this is interesting. Here's the big question. What is the fate of the universe over time? And astronomers, John, think that there's many different theories on this, but let's start in the beginning. We think the universe was created, this expansion, 13.77 billion years ago, and now John is thought to be 93 billion light years wide. But here's quickly just a couple of things of what might happen to the universe, thus the mystery. One is called the big freeze. And that's when no thermodynamic energy is out there in the universe. "I think has range especially in front of an audience and in the ring is more exciting and more credible and more nimble against different variety of opponent. So there i'm throwing my interesting to say i. I am someone who likes. As a bigger proponent of one than the other right well. That's but that's exactly what i'm saying. I i really just noticed this recently. Like i just feel like when i watched rob gender really gets those organic booze. He's getting the audience is giving him the reception that he wants. And i feel like drew is getting unexcited. Response as the audience watches him. Beat up gender mahal or gender mahal's latkes And i think that that's the most you're going to ask for right now out of out of that. That's the story that you want told You know. I think ultimately this is a a good spot for gender for sure and this ends up being a stepping-stone where where you got a big bad guy for drew to beat and beats him. "At the at the sport that they were dropped into because of their size or height and that happens in the nba less often now with the change in the game with less position but almost as the guy who he has so much going for. You know the affability. The he'd just kind of jumped off. The screen has some star power to them. Not all big guys do at his height and then of course he's crazy tall and he's got a good natural physique but athletically. It's it's tough. So you intel. You're right they're very behind very much a project and they believe in them. And i think he has shown me enough in all the intangible and concrete ways as limited as he has in the ring that he is worth what they're doing with them and i i see what vince mcmahon season him as a project were sticking with and i think in you were saying you know people like him. You know from everything you hear. That goes a long way. You know being likable. Having people root for you when you some limitations otherwise can go a long way to. So i i i was like oh god you know really an. He couldn't even do anything with your calling him up in your sacrificing new day tool at rental to them or to him. Yeah but it's been so mad likes the diverse roster and. I don't think somebody with with the upside of the boxes. He is checking actually comes along all that off. I would agree. I i think things have gone right and like to me. I get the chrisitan of sacrificing this person's sacrificing that person. But there's no reason to have a guy who's there to do. What do they almost is there to do. And not sacrifice these people too. If you're not going to sacrifice these big names to him then what what why is he. Why is he there. Well that he's not being fear or shanke or chad gable. Like you're saying you're sending a signal to the fans dog single to the fans. This guy's a novelty for the mid card. But when he's beaten up these main event mean you are sending that signal weather fans think it overtly or just kinda resonates with them unconsciously. This is a big deal. He's he's he's a main event guy they have them in made. It makes aj. I think it was a brilliant person to vima. obviously because almost can interact with a pro i mean. Aj is one of the more high q. Guys right now in terms of in ring but also on the microphone and and so for him to just be able to carry on us. You know at first. It seemed like a joke. Let's make fun of shortages and it's not as high as height is helpful to accentuating almost as high but when you're portraying this guy is the tallest guy ever it's not. There's no shame to stand and be shorter than him in. Aj never got by his height. But tab the guy who can take all the bumps and do all the work and also on the. Mike helped carry on us and just reacts to him. I think he's a really smart decision by wwe. Yeah i agree. I agree wholeheartedly. I think that it. I mean it combines it. Let's aj rest. Not rest isn't the right word but but rest is body up a little bit and also allows him to use his skill set to make almost even better. I think i think it's all. I think it's all very good with those guys. And in fact you know i between aj honest. Radel and orton. It's like what's not to like about those four exactly well. So what are you doing this. Which is another match that you were you do a rematch extreme rules. You don't want to do too much of that where it seems like. It's part one to be continued. You know back to the future part two and now a few months in theaters. You can see what happens but or in riddle have some momentum archaic bro but there's so many there's so many stories you can tell with both pairs and it feels fresh and new. I don't think this is the match. That has to be kind of conclusive when we move on by any means. I know i don't think this is a conclusive match. I do think that this is one of those moments. I think that it's summer slam some important show especially for wrestling fans. You gotta stadium full of people. This is a pull the trigger moment. This is the feel good moment. This is archaic bro. Like after everything. We've been through with them i. It's something that i think. People are really invested in. I think saturday is the day that you pull the trigger. An archaic bro wins the match. And they're on the same page and it's a feel good moment with randy and red and that you get and i still think you can go to extreme rules and have a in almost in some kind of stipulation that really favors almost try to win the tag title back But i think that. I think i think it would be nice to have the feel good moment between those two At summer slim. Need an extra dose of positivity in your wrestling podcasts. We'll come join me out. I wish that they've had gotten a little bit more time on television to sell this story and bring up is what's next for them especially post roster shakeup. Are you trying to position edge to be a fresh challenger for bobby lashley are you gonna save edge for a rematch against like roman reigns at the rumble or something. That a little something to the undercard to speak at the rumble. Or are you going to reunite him with randy. Horton is you know. have have that pairing comeback. Because you know that sort of thing with randy and thing with edge that you could have some fun with post riddle being elevated by being with randy riddle rejuvenating randy's character to degree to which we'll get to that in a minute Sets positioning him to be a future mcintyre if drew becomes champion again or are you trying to build him up for whom for what top baby face what what is there for and if you think well there's more we need to do with edge and he's going to be in world title matches or top feuds and you know you put edge over but if you think you need to build up south because you've got this like six months victory for him in wrestlemainia. Then you have the seth over. I think it's sort of in that sense like the finish isn't based on where we are today but the available dates in the matches that they're having mind for each wrestler and the finish. Saturday might give us a window into who's in for a bigger push of edge is going to be. I don't say move down but sort of moved over to something like teaming with randy again just throwing that out. There is a random thing that they could do where it's not a wins and losses. Don't really matter anymore. Knows more about the dynamic between them whereas if you wanna push a challenger to lashley well you need to win. I mean he's got a pizza. I mean it's the summer slam preview show but like there's a lot more than summer slam preview like i talk about how cool it is for wrestling fans. I think in a in a broadway to see christian winning a world title In two thousand and twenty one but my favorite thing that i did is roman reigns came out on smackdown on friday wearing a pair of sneakers. Some people caught it. Some people didn't because some people don't know anything about sneakers. And that's fine. But the travis scott fragment jordan ones and i use that as a jump off point to explain how wearing those sneakers and presenting himself as someone who wears those sneakers at this moment on this television show is this little mainstream piece to roman reigns it. The right people are noticing this and if the right people are pushing this forward that i it can result in roman reigns being the next mainstream guy. The next john seen the next rock without having to leave. Wwe that those guys became sort of seriously mainstream. Once they got into. Hollywood and roman reigns is on this route where he can become more like the professional football player professional basketball that goes beyond the nba or the nfl brand and becomes a household name and a superstar in in his own right I think that that's the road that roman reigns can be on but all did the whole sort of thesis developed around the shoes. He was wearing on smackdown. So you know if you wanna see me or listen to me. Expand on that As weird as it is. That was a my my my personal favorite topic on the not. Cena's promo on monday. In a number of ways that ultimately might not matter because it had a big match feel. I'm sorry friday. The vibe at all gave off which big match feel like these are two big stars from sort of two different generations or overlapping generations but rains in his prime sina the star who might set a record. There were the maddest off. You know you're not drawing numbers and they they called me to save you. Save the show from you or something. That didn't make sense. Because all i see is viewers roman succeeding in front of sellout crowds. And he just seemed like the most accessible guy ever seen is like. Oh yeah they called me. Because you're not succeeding. I don't know what that means. So i'm open to having that explained to me but that part didn't resonate but but i think roman reigns and you're talking about him becoming a star like the way he stood there and did not at all shrink in that moment with john cena. Who's had so many big moments like that selling pay per view and they've got one more show to do it on friday but seen has done that so many times with no less than the rock but many others also in raines. One of the criticisms has him as a baby faces that i had is. He didn't have that. Traditional golden baby-faced promo right before major pay per viewer to sell a match. Just wasn't his thing. I thought standing there opposite of sita and thrown back at sina. Unlike you. i'm going to say good things about you. Because when i beat you wanna meet. Somebody means something. Not somebody means nothing like. I'm still watching him imagining. Their trajectory iffy lasts long enough before being called into hollywood or something as a fulltime top star. "To concerts. Where i love the music but the musician seem kind of grumpy. Didn't want to be there in other times where you could tell or at least they were faking it. Well that they couldn't be happier and this is a dream. Come true and we appreciate you being here. Let's play some music and have a moment together and that's what wrestling is. It's it's a rock concert more than anything. Paul heyman is one of the people who articulated that in in a in a way and produced it in a way In the originally cw that made me realize wrestling at its best in some former fashion should be a rock concert with going nuts and wrestlers. Who love what they're doing and everybody's part of it together. Yeah and i think we could talk about the psychology of that fact for a long time. Because you're right on. Both those counts like enthusiasm is not tonality right like you can have an enthusiastic tone but if you don't have an authentic enthusiasm or a joy of performance or whatever it is it is so transparent and it is gross and it's annoying and i think wrestling like rock concerts. Are that on on some level whether people want to admit it or not especially once they get to become adults. Wrestling fans are obsessive and music. Fans are obsessive. And you see your favorite band on stage and a part of you love being there because you wish you were onstage with them. You're almost putting yourself in their body like you're you're dreaming. What if i didn't have this nine to five job. What if i was the drummer for the foo fighters and like i have the time in my life. I was doing that. That'd be amazing. And then you look up at taylor. And he's losing his mind just having a great time playing the drums. And i think it's the same thing for wrestling late. The idea that especially in the commentary but in wrestling and cutting promos in in being in the ring. You're like oh my god. I always dreamed of being arrested in when i was a kid. If i've i could be a wrestler of i could be a connaitre if i could be anything and then i don't even know if people realize it but like you see people that don't have that joy for it and you almost go like wool. W-wh what am i watching them. Like how do i get lost in this fantasy. that's supposed to be. It's not a fantasy anymore like there's isn't supposed to be a nine to five job. I have a nine to five job and it sucks. Like i can't escape into your world if you're as miserable is i am exactly yes. Yup okay neither. Good good broad topic and i think it is looking at mcafee and just seeing wrestler. You know like i. I talk about Jason jordan and chat gable like an annex t. They had a joy performance. That's when i. I use that term. Like i like their take them because they brought back. They brought me back to childhood watching wrestling for the first time we're baby faces just seemed so happy to be there and they were so focused on winning and if they want it was a great day of their life and that that thrill of victory in that vicarious experiences is vital so uh sam. Tv's studio and one of them has raw on mute and there have been multiple times where i'm trying to talk about like the election or some news story. Your take something seriously and like my of thought. It's totally drones. I don't know when sammy dane. And i want to know what happened or like charlotte just slapped ric flair and go a sharp turn on. I'm like let me focus. That does happen. But i always I always dvr raw. And then i get home at like two o'clock in the morning and watch raw fast forwarding through the commercials like late at night. So i owe and and and you know and sometimes i fast forward a little bit because i've got. I've seen visual spoilers. But other times. Like you know if ambrose does something visually. I don't really know what happened. Because i'm only half paying attention. I'm kinda pump to get home and figure out what what historian just saw was very cool. "Ya I tend to feel like you know. I think that was subtly done with smackdown a little bit the last time and i think it works in terms of building people. You know that's built a lot of people Doing things that way And and i think you might. I think you'll have a scenario where smackdown is a little heavier on stuff for hard cores and rosza a little heavier on stuff for mainstream. But i don't think that. I don't think they'll be dramatic. I think the roster will be different. But i don't think that they'll be dramatically split like that. Because i don't think they would want at least at the beginning one to be an asia. Wanted to be a b- show. I don't think they want want to be a cool show and wanted to be a mainstream show like i don't. I don't think that they want that vibe. I think they want to franchise shows and yeah like i personally. Like in my. If i were doing it. I would rather see roman and sina an rawlins all on raw and that could be what happens in have Aj and Ambrose and those guys on smackdown so in that respect. Yeah maybe you wouldn't have as much mainstream credibility on smackdown. But i don i i. I think that there's going to be a pretty solid mix on both shows. I don't think one show will be a new era and one show. I don't. I don't think they'll do that because i think that the they'll be too protective of raw to let smackdown become the cool show or too protective of their network relationships so at smackdown be perceived by anybody as it'd be show. Yeah and i think that the hope is that. Maybe vince would be in this kind of occur on raw to It doesn't have to be on smackdown that there's gonna be some guys. That vince just goes. I don't get it but go for it. You know to the writers and stay out of their way. And i think there's just a feeling that you'd be less likely to do that on raw. Maybe a little more willing to back on but the thing is kevin. Don vince mcmahon. They they believe they know what what is the best way to present what they call sports entertainment and why. I think vince his mind. And this is a hard thing to get past for fans realize why would vince. Let's something be done a different way. Because the way he does things is the way he thinks. It's the right way to do it. And it's gotten him to where he is and it's what he's promised. Usa network and what. They're paying you know what usa networks paying for has been vision so for him to just step away and go all right now. Let's have this. Petri dish called smackdown where somebody gets experiment with a bunch of other things. That's hard to imagine being done all at once right away. But i'm kind of hoping each show ends up being different like letterman leno or or or co bear and john stewart that there are people who watch both shows but they're glad there's two different hosts with two different flavors and a little bit of a different sensibility and i think just in the announcing teams. You can get that with marlin all over since michael cole But the more separate they are the better. You know what i mean. 'cause they will inevitably. They're going to develop their own personality if they have their own writing teams in their own announced teams. Completely distinct separate roster. And i do think too that Vince will naturally pay less attention to smackdown. Especially as time goes on like. I think that that will happen like i. I don't think that that he's going to be. Oh probably eventually give smackdown over to somebody else. I would imagine Ars it's mike mcmahon from the all elite after show every week andrew so and i breakdown. Aew on our free. I'm optimistic about the roster. Split being done better than it was done in the second half of the last nine year experiment of sorts is that smackdown is on usa. And it's live and around the same that rookies raw and it's not pre-tape when the when when then you know when smackdown watched it was because it was on broadcast television and upn was. Was you know it wasn't abc. Cbs nbc fox. But it was still it was a it was at a time and being a broadcast network meant more than it does now and upn was was backed by some good people and had some good shows and it just felt like a bigger deal. Let's treated equal. Let's rock there austin. Here let's put cena there and you know just but over as a pre taped show when you are exhausted on tuesdays. Your franchises raw. That's struggling compared to the attitude era. Let's load up raw. Smackdown ended up getting kinda back you know. Jbl bilas champion. Let's be honest. Or eddie guerrero for that matter was not. Vince mcmahon thinking. Oh yeah this is my aco. I think there's because of those two factors it's on the same network usa and it's live the re the reasons that smackdown kind became a be show. Before i think are not there now the only difference now is the raw has a little bit more of a history within the first born In a way and it's three hours not to and and i don't know how those will play out if at all 'cause smackdown it's a little bit more clearfield because it's not up against monday night football For you know eighteen or so weeks a year or the college football championships so away smackdown might become the the ratings juggernaut that vince wants to wants to feed To get back into six to nine level if If you so fortunate yes he has an where smackdown which couldn't happen before smackdown could become the main show it could be the most watched show and therefore i think it would keep vince from from reverting to treat and raw as his favourite firstborn child and instead treats them more equal And even if that means less involved in smackdown and still is working really hard to get ratings up. I could still see him not sabotaging smackdown or his hand on the scale towards raw. But letting the both kinda thrive over time and it's a fascinating story to watch that incentive. Isn't there when it was on sci fi or the cw and it was pre taped to treat it as a b. Show that those. Those factors are gone and usa and they got a new tv. Deal coming up. If you're down the line they want to be. In a strong position and usa executives want to give him equal ratings on monday. There's no reason they shouldn't be. I mean if you johnson exclusively on smackdown. I think expectation is those ratings. We're going to go up and they're going to go up to raleigh levels pretty quick. Yeah yeah i. "We'll go to A couple of questions here in a minute. But i want to ask you sam back to your show and the in studio interviews that you do In new york city at the headquarters. Who who do you want. Who's the top one two or three guys that you have not interviewed yet. You wanna get in studio t interview. Not because they're necessarily the biggest name although they might be. You know there probably are big name but who do you. Who if you had a chance to interview who you just think would be a really good interview and you wanna tap into what makes them tick and what. Their ideas are well. i think undertaker's always been my dream one. But that would have to be. the scenario. was undertaker interview. Would have to be one where he actually wanted to do it and we could actually sit down because he doesn't like doing that so i came in and just kind of whiz promoting something really wouldn't it wouldn't be the same thing but You know i would love. And i know him and i've talked to him before but i would love to get a non. Wwe contract did jbl. Sit down and really hard. You know for an extended period of time about everything. He's been through everything he's seen not only as seen. Wwe through all these different eras and been a part of it through all these different areas but he also has such just a knowledge of wrestling history and has been so tied to so many. You know backstage things and wrestler court stories that i love hearing and and all that stuff that i'd love to talk to him With no restrictions. Yeah i think. That's that's what. I was looking for something like that. You know not did you root for anybody to have a falling out with somebody but there would be a benefit to jbl. Having a falling out with took man went there. 'cause boy does he. Would he have stories and and run and we're really not that you want him to like i'm not i don't want to come in and like i'll give me the dirt barry this guy i just wanna know that you're coming in and telling me the real stories of what happened back and i don't think that i don't think you get the real stories. Unless ties are severed. I agree. Yeah the the best interviews are usually when somebody like the bischoff interview That i'm going to be reposting for vip members Coming up here. Steve boston mick foley etc who do you guys see on the indies or annex t or main roster who within five years will be a star and has the most potential to be a big star. sam obviously. We talked about kevin owens and shinsuke nakamura so those are kind of the two. We spent a lot of time on But who who out there. I don't i don't necessarily want to say dr carson and limit it because it can be a more conventional popular choice but who is used really properly. Besides those two do you think can be big stars five years from now. Well i think if he can stay healthy if he can stay away from injury. I've been high on adam cole for a long time and i think i think adam cole could do a lot. Because he's got the he's he. He is a guy who can survive in this kind of indy wrestling world. But also you talk for two seconds and you can see that he could also be a wwe poster. Boy you know what i mean he can do. Both you can sit down and do an interview but then he can also wrestle a mess that you know people in newsletters are going to be talking about. So i've been i. I really hope that. Adam cole gets that breaks noon and ends up in the xt and then on the main roster because i think he he could be a star. Obviously you know it goes without saying nakimora. I think American alpha is a team that We'll be talking about in five years you know. I think. I think both those guys are great but i think gable is like his ability to be entertaining is very reminiscent of kurt angle. The fact that he has the wrestling abilities that he does and then can pull off almost like he does like. It's it's it's funny i laugh. You know at the puns So i think i think american alpha And i don't know there's a lot. There's a lot of potential talent especially since right. Now is a unpredictable in the wintertime. Because they've really kind of their doors to step that they would never open their doors to like a year ago. I would have said you know zack. Sabre junior will australia guys like that. Don't have a chance. Because tiny. But now can i actually couldn't say that i think stable junior will be wwe. Which is insane. Because i mean you talk about a guy who does not have you know big hulking. wwe body. that's actually virginia. But i do think. I do think he'll be there Good good points. And they are the scouting annex t right now and obviously the scene more ripe with smaller guys. I mean it just it just kind of the way. It works But yeah i mean now. News of tommy end coming in from from england. Next x group and moose. I mean it's just there's there's outside the normal realm of who. Vince would go or kevin don. It'll be like oh yeah. Let's get that guy in here or that horrible overnight aspera. We were kansas suzuki. And i mean it's just like you know you gotta be six three and have a certain look you know. Even the drew mcintyre body type. You know they're looking outside of that now and we're name one name. I forgot to mention that. I really want to timothy thatcher. I think i think i think timothy thatcher is a guy that that if given the right opportunities could be a huge huge huge.

"This term should be used more often frankly. It's a failure of wrestling that this term is used more often to describe wrestlers at any level not commercial rockstar. He's michael jackson freddie mercury mick jagger. He has that 'it factor and he's prints. I mean there it's like he's a rock star and he is so much he whatever. The negative might come along culturally from him. Being japanese is is irrelevant because who he is as a human being in a rockstar overrides. Any of that and i am more fearful. That vince won't recognize that or get it or see it. But there's no if if you're if you're worried about ratings being down the best thing that happens when ratings are down as big things happen that are outside the normal normal I guess in the box approach to promoting. I mean it took vince russo. Being brought into booking beating by bill watts through some a magazine writer. Just to keep up on storylines. Keep the magazine more up to date. He'll confide his tongue. No surprise and told vincent his yes man. This is ridiculous. This era of howard stern. You guys are lame And you should be doing things different and at. I'm sure you know vince was that i. Who does this guy think he is and then he absolutely loved him for speaking his mind and it changed the course of the industry and at some point when things are bad mines open up more open-minded the things. I'm hoping the timing is right in that regard for nakimora that that the ratings are low enough even if other things are going pretty well in certain ways that vincent's like yeah. I don't wanna i don't i. Don't get this guy but it's the crowds at them. Let's do it. We did was austin listened to the fans and go forward with it and see what happens. It'll be it'll be exciting. let's go yeah you know. I think the only thing that would stop nakimora from succeeding would be if he got a couple of injuries. I think i think we're at a time period. Where vincent whoever else is super sensitive to injury prone wrestlers so if that would be one thing if he got he got a couple of injuries then i think all the confidence and gone So as long as he stays injury-free which i think you can Then i think it'll be fine. Yeah yeah good point. let's go back to reginald. i think reginald. He said he had a second topic for us. I did through i wanted to Something else that got brought up earlier you were talking about rain in the situation and we talked about a million times but There's something i actually talking to. James carville about a few weeks ago and We were kind of elaborating on that. That was saying that I feel like 'cause actually believe it or not. I don't i think he's has put on some good matches. I just think that the booking has been his problem. He's been putting a really re position right now. But i think we can benefit from is is is kind of like doing like a Eight to be redundant here but kind of do a c. And punk kind of thing were hugest like she puts out and it's real like he actually like he just rips off that shield vest. He's just like you know he's like you know what. Forget this. You know what you guys are mad at me. 'cause you wanna be me like you really just cuts like a pipe bomb. You just goes off like he gets in the crowd space he's going off and he embraces being you embrace being hated then that's where that's where all the rewards will come in later if that makes any sense like if the embrace being booed embraced If if you like accepted the fact that not everybody's gonna like. I mean and and he can get handed being like that. I'm more of an optimist i'm just saying optimists. 'cause that's the wrong word because i i i'm i'm certainly aware of the perils of wwe's approach the roster split previously. And and. i'm not sure that i'm putting money on them doing things right. But i m someone who thinks that it's a. It's an idea that i've done. Well can be absolutely beneficial. I mean having not over exposing on two shows per week and being forced to look at the bright side and do what. Paul heyman did any. Cw which is our either six things that disqualifies this guy from ever getting a job in wrestling. But there's four things that i can utilize to make money with them. And i'm going to focus on those four things and not the other six and he had created this promotion from it when you don't when you can't just default to another kevin owens styles randy orton shameless filler match on smackdown. Because you don't have half those guys I i think you're forcing you've created a structure. My analogy was. It's like if you don't bring potato chips home and put them in the cupboard. You're more likely to reach for the celery and hamas in the fridge And i the roster split is forcing them into not reaching to the to the answer which is just have using until twenty five minutes on raw and twenty five minutes on smackdown..

It was jason powell from pro wrestling dot net worth talking about monday night raw and money. In the bank and thursdays i host the interview. Thursday format and i am pleased to announce that today's guest on today's interview. Thursday is none other than sam. Roberts of the sam roberts show Sam compete with your torch live past. Hey thanks for having me great to have you want now Sam by way of introduction I'd like you to talk about how your journey to being one of the top pro wrestling podcasters and a little bit more about the show that you do also sirius xm satellite weeknight basis. Well i mean. I was gonna say that part of the journey and being able to accomplish as much of i i've accomplished is because started early but i didn't when reagan was in office so yeah no actually many more but you know i was working Very a show called opie and anthony which was on. Xm radio at the time before merging sirius xm and we would have wwe guests on and I started talking to the publicists that would come in and realize that like like the press conferences that they would hold it the hard rock and stuff like that like i kind of is a fan always thought they were just kind of a work press conference like just show and then i found out that press can actually go to the press conference and i said well i work for this show. Can i go to the press conference and interview some of these guys. And they're like yeah of course is like wow so i went and you know kinda got a taste of that and it was before typecasting was big and before you was big and i was just kind of gathering audio to play on the radio show and then i probably after a couple of years i said you know. Let me just not do this. Just for the radio show but ask questions that i want to know is it wrestling fan and start uploading them to use you and so i would do that and they started to you know kinda get a little bit popular. I think a lot of that was because there weren't a ton of people doing youtube wrestling interviews at that point And i ended up doing probably three or four year. Not a tom But then as it happened it was more and more as as my radio. Career progressed to the point. Doing my own show and and doing all of that then had more opportunity to get guys in studio to actually sit down and have long conversations with guys and eventually you know i said about a year and a half ago i was doing china wrestling youtube and i just wanted some kind of foreign invasion about it like not just me. Being a person who has entered a bunch of wrestlers. I said why not give the wrestling fans that. Listen to me an outlet where it can just be wrestling. And i love talking about wrestling so i started the podcast and now that's kind of what way this for me as the moment wrestling. Podcast once a week and then sirius. Xm every night. Monday through friday from nine to midnight. We will we throughout the show some stories from your interviews and maybe some insights into The challenges and fun that are part of interviewing protesters live in studio and so in in the format that you also want to invite callers. because we've got a big paper becoming up on sunday. I i hear sam From none other than michael cole that this is a wrestlemainia worthy pay per view with I can resume made event. I keep hearing that. This is just another wrestlemainia which is amazing You know. I think it's more of a money in the bank. Pay per view the money in the bank mats and i mean the main events are amazing but i think i think i'm i'm comfortable saying it's a very good money in the bank. I do like that. They are back typing and not just presenting every once in a while. I feel like they kind of match out there and they just sort of expect people to understand. It's a big deal i think. Aj against styles is a big deal. I think they're exaggerating a little bit. How long this has been a dream match of quote sports entertainment fan so i don't think fifteen years ago or twelve years ago people thought man i hope someday we can see john cena against aj styles but in fairness i'm four little embellishing because it is a dream act. It is the two two wrestlers from two different worlds of the last dozen years Johnson from a a big match main event standpoint. Nobody's had more. Nobody's been in more big time events and obviously the number one name and pro wrestling styles. The number one name out there. I guess you could you know. Throw a couple of other people in conversation. But i think he's working news. Japan probably switch them over the top as the number one don. Wwe wrestler so it is a dream match in that sense and stuff that the The champion and over losses belt against roman reigns. who has the belt. Those feel like a big match too. So i i do like. They're making that they're underlining how important these matches are but it has gotten maybe slightly comical often they They inject the word recipe the But it's a lot of pain we're gonna we're gonna take phone calls so if you're listening to us live at one zero eight eastern right now. jump on the phone lines are number is.

I don't think that's going to be it. You could maybe. You know. I i feel like i wish there was a little bit more for big e. It seems like Stuff has slowed down a little bit for biggie in the last few weeks. But i don't know. I mean there's no story king corbin and you could do that. You could do corbin inch and have some kind of crown stipulation like maybe it's own official king of the ring match. You know what you could do. Forbidden shinsegei king of the ring match and then have some kind of schmaltz finish and then decide. Okay we gotta do a king of the ring tournament. Yeah you know something like that. I don't want to king of the ring tournament or not. But yeah i mean i could see corporate and even though we've seen coordination's gave her single week like at least make they wrestle for two minutes total. It's not burned out. we're not burned out on it. Yeah and i mean putting boots on paper view thing in the world. So yeah i i could see doing and making it. This one is for the crown the winner of this match regardless of who is in physical possession of the crown. The winner of this match is the king. That'd be the way to do it for me. I think maybe they give gender a win and establish on the show and then he costs through the match. Ginger can have their feud at summerslam Not a suggestion. Just in any of salmon and o. I think people thought they headed towards a helena sell match kind of just. Have that moment for this this epoch. Viewed of this generation with so many incarnations places at stake in place. When you're not gonna add match but they could you know the the show doesn't need another match. They're trying to stack up minutes anymore. You know this isn't the burials wilson era where it's like. They wanna brag about engagement numbers. They've got their peacock money and so they're just trying to get in and out especially in the thunderdome era without a live crowd. So i don't think we're going to add a match. But i'm just seeing if anything jumps out and i guess the only other one from smackdown that could be added would be sammy and keio or like you said something with cruise but i think they also want to save matches for smackdown feel fresh. Yeah boost down. So that's where i think they're like. Yeah let's let's save a couple of these four tv and to keep fox happy. I think that's probably right. Actually that's a good point. "Match out. We'll move over to smackdown here. Bianca bel air and bailey. First thoughts on bianca's progress as a baby-faced might my issue with her time on a lot. Is i don't think she changed her act enough from when she was deliberately doing things to get heel heat and then she was a baby face and she's doing the same things i am the st and sort of the over the top cockiness and all that it can work with some people in certain ways. I don't think it was working with her. Especially then when they introduced more humble beginnings and her dad falling off the couch and how relatable she was in other ways. I didn't think they had found the grew for her. I still think it's been a work in progress. And i think they're aware of it because she's being scripted to say she's acknowledging people find my cockiness off pudding but you don't know my story and people said i was masculine or couldn't do this and i did. I still think there were. They need to be but she is so her her like i love the term. Coal used external charisma to apply to across all these things to promotion does to boost up. What is otherwise as coal is claiming as a sort of brittle overrated package As a top act. Bianca doesn't need external charisma. She just has a very natural charisma. So what do you think about what they're doing with her. And and how how. That characters progressing. It's it's not to tell you the truth progressing quite as quickly as i would have thought that it would have you know i that that again. That's not to say it won't. But i would have thought that like she would come off of wrestlemainia kind of run smack down and i haven't found that to be the case yet. I mean as a matter of fact. I if any one is i feel like bailey is doing beyond the best working her career. I've been bailey has over the years. Just become this sort of all around all tools player. That is just so i find phenomenally. Good at this stuff you know. I think it's good right person to working with bianca at this stage to think perfect i to work against this each i think that she she cares about the betterment of bianca which i think is important you know. She sees the attention. Being a blair has and maybe that wrestlemainia moment was so special that it's almost better to slow down and then kind of get the engine going again like you're not instead of you know i. It's just it's a tough level to perform it in terms of making moments. You know all that said i. I feel like well. You know i mean part of me feels like it's not the time to take the title off bianca. Bel air but part of me thinks that it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world have bianca chasing bailey because and maybe get another. Get another moment of her at summerslam. It'd be a different moment but it would be more of a traditional wrestling. He'll conquer Baby-faced conquering he'll moment. I think that sasha banks was not a real billing going into wrestlemainia. Everybody knew how special that moment was. Now special that match was and everything. It wasn't the same as as you know some somebody coming in here and trying to spoil that for you. Which is what bailey could be. So i wouldn't be opposed to bailey. Taking the title off of her just so people could be reminded of how much they like. Bianca belair fellers story is people not believing in her but she succeeds at a high level and wins all the trophies. I mean you kinda wanna have or not have to explain that to people and say believe me. This was a struggle. Even though when you look at her you think everything must have come easy like. That's i'm the st. And i'm the best and i'm gonna tell you over and over again and i'm going to throw my hair and and have a million dollar smile and i'm champion quickly and headlined wrestlemainia how most people relate to that like people like greatness. But i don't think they like greatness that doesn't handle it with with some knowledge of their journey and some humility that where they don't need to. It's like bud grant coach in this sort of making a long time. Said you know. When you score a touchdown act like you been there before Right and and so for her to actually for fans to witness a struggle a setback and having to overcome could really help her character and it could help her story from fan standpoint but it can also help her develop her promos which i feel for her how does she go out there as champion already and most people i guess he's twenty four but she's in her thirties but like her her journey so fresh and she looked so young and is seems to have come so quickly. I think it would be good for her to live through having to convey a struggle to get back to the top. Because i think fans would re would more relate to her if she did have some moments of doubt and that the fans were there to kind of give her a boost be part of getting back to the top. It's sort of feels like i'm the best in now. Recognize it as opposed to. Let's let's go on this journey together. Which i think drew got to tell that story more. Yeah no i agree. Yeah i think that I think that part of the way you do the esp thing and still manage to be likeable is the sort of like. It's not bragging if it's true and that means you have to prove that it's true but that doesn't mean.

Yeah i mean what would with the place that they are in the story line. Do you think they would've looked at differently if if they were having to worry. About the crowd response to or wanting to direct it a little more a little more as opposed to being able to pipe in a channel that fits with what they want. Yeah maybe i mean. I think we know how people would have reacted because we heard how people reacted wrestlemainia. You know look to me opening wrestlemainia night to fiend. Vs randy orton. And you heard the booze and it was the wasn't booze of we don't like this guy the other guy it was booze of. We're not satisfied with the storytelling that's happening here. And that's what was most interesting about that to me was like that was a twenty four hour grace period that you got and that's it to being back. It was the honeymoon's over guys. I don't like this. And yeah i mean. I think that there's gonna. I think a lot of things are going to change. You know i was. I was in the thunderdome thunderdome in the capitol wrestling center. On sunday. i went in for the main event. And i watched it and it was the most people they've ever had in their three hundred people or so. I think it don't quote me on that. But that's the way joseph talked. It sounded like it was like thirty thousand people. But yeah i can truly people out right like the wrestlers are so happy to have that many people in their triple h through the moon about having that many people in they're happy about having three hundred so i don't forget to ask remember. This is related. How much bigger is the footprint of capitol wrestling center. Compared to the full sail annexed studio that they worked in as a good question It's it's similar okay. You know i've been to is really interesting with capitol wrestling center every time i've gone. They've rearranged the seating process. I mean not but you know the seating arrangement. There's been a lot of like. How can we move this to be over there and everything. I think there's certainly more floor seating apple sale you know most most of what's going on at the capitol wrestling center now is built in bleachers. I think you can fit more people into full sail. Those percents my guess would have been full sales like thirty percent bigger footprint. Maybe but not not no no nowhere near yeah no one. Yeah it's it's definitely comparable. Yeah that's why i think hopefully the takeover moving into marinas at some point. Because i miss that. I miss the take the buzz like. Aws w hat has that with the larger arenas the buzzing the building. I was there for all in and it was like before the show starts takeovers. Had that like they have better music. They had a fresh camera angles for an arena. Because you know they just have different. You know it's not. Vincent kevin don and company. It's a it just felt fresh and energy in the building was a different level than when i say different i mean higher lower but think was higher but just a different type of and a different vibe and next. I'm curious if they can still capture that. Awa sorta stolen that cachet sort of from them and their their spot in the industry and with a roster and the perception stuff. So i'm eager just as an observer standing back to see if a takeover in an arena can replicate five ago or if. Aws taken that from them. Or if you're saying it's two hours and it's there's as talked about inter-religious media call last week. There's not a lot of rotation tallaght anymore and the perceptions of what it is have changed if that's just isn't there anymore and that magic is sorta gone so for a variety of reasons. I'm interested besides the obvious point which is just would feel like a more major atmosphere and there for the big stars in a bigger setting. I thought because. I think about that stuff too. And i thought that the coming off of takeover on sunday which was an excellent takeover. The five-way was excellent. The ladder match was excellent. I thought i was just so good. The women's matches And the fact that they are devoting more time to building characters with like the cameron. Grimes anneli nights stuff with the stuff. Which i think is really good and really really important for an extended. Do i really thought that. This week's annex t tv was one of the best tv episodes they've ever done. I thought the storytelling. I thought the pacing. I thought the matches i thought the people are highlighted. Everything about it was just a joy as a wrestling fan to watch and made me think that i feel like a switch has has clicked in his brain whether triple h is brain. Whether it's shawn. Michaels brain i. You know whoever whoever it is. The that switch is in their brain. I felt watching. Tv last night. Like the switch click. And it's like okay. We're gonna do stuff. Because i mean even just the inclusion of samoa joe felt like a win and i was like did the way annexed. He moved last night and the people that were highlighted. Made me feel like. Oh no no no no annex teas and teas. Buzz is not going anywhere. That's that's how i felt watching the tv. But while i was gonna say was is interesting in the capitol wrestling center. Because i found and this is different because people have been critical of the capitol wrestling center fans not having that energy. And maybe that's because they have access right. Maybe that's because like if you know when you are i get to go to the capitol wrestling center. It's like oh my god like this is amazing. There's only a few people that get to go in this building and we get to live and you know. Maybe it's a little different when you're a resin. I don't know but i did find.
