Panthers beat Bruins 4-3 in Game 5 OT to avoid elimination

"The Panthers have forced a game 6 in their first round series by outlasting the bruins four three and overtime. Matthew kuchak scored 6 minutes into OT after the cats wasted a trio of one goal leads. Swaggy was able to put pressure on it, forced turnover, and I was able to hop out there fast, but with duke change in and just a little bit of pinball and somehow got right on my stick and made sure to put it home. Anthony duclair Sam Bennett and Sam Reinhart had Florida's other goals and Sergei bobrovsky turned back 44 shots. Taylor hall tied the game for the bees with ten minutes left in regulation. Sometimes you just shoot it and it goes in and I got a couple of really good passes from guys and I mean a couple open nets and shot the puck in the net and it was pretty good. "First goalie to win it since Ryan Miller. Yeah, he had a tough night. I mean, you know, they were dominating and then Denver came back, but he had a crazy number, spins, kind of a crazy situation in college hockey this year. So the hobie baker winner was this kid McKay from Minnesota state Mankato. And then they have the Mike Richter award for the best goalie in the league. He didn't win that antibiotic he didn't win that. So that was given to is it Devon levy Levi? Yeah, from northeast. This kid, oh my God, so he was a Florida draft pick. They ended up trading him. He was part of the deal to buffalo for what was that deal where Sam Ryan had, right? Sam Reinhart, merle's kind of going to buffalo. He's a buffalo, but so the Michigan goalie and the northeastern goalie have both decided to go back to school. They're both buffalo prospects. So buffalo is probably going to lose one of them because if you're drafted and wait four years, you end up becoming a UFA, but it was crazy. I was like, wait a minute. How the hell is the best goalie in the country, not the hobie baker winner and vice versa, made absolutely no sense. So I was interested. You know what I took from that? Buffalo still got an opportunity to fuck this up and they probably will. And the side was going to take you losers. Now, when you talk about going back to school, don't some schools guarantee scholarship to players if you come back later, is that just yeah, be you did. I don't know if they still do, but I had a full ride and if I go back to school, which I have to do. God, yeah. The scholarship is still offered honored, but I don't think that's the case at most places. Adam's going to be flipping a coin in his office. That's a big thing too, because not everybody's going to make a ton of dough. You guys should do the coin flip all together. All you lose your fans on chip while I do a best to say about which bowl you want. Yeah. All right. I think Levi's the guy, Levi, whoops. The other guys don't want to go on the fucking window in the Hall of Fame with the coyotes. Keep the change. Playing in fucking high school gym. One of the deal end up with chiclets cup goalie. Oh, I'm having too much fun. I'm having to, I should stop, I should stop. One last note on call is a hell of a weekend for Denver before at Bobby brink. He was a hobie baker finalist. First he wins the national championship, then he signs with the flyers who took him in the second round of the 2019 draft. So congrats to him going to start his pro career when a national championship, hell of a weekend. I hope you enjoyed Boston as well, kiddo. All right, moving right along. A very emotional scene down in Providence over the weekend, the Providence bruner retired the late Colby caves number 25 in a ceremony Saturday night. It was the first number retired in team history, cables with the Providence bruins for 5 seasons after arriving there as an undrafted 19 year old. You know, he basically grew up there, I believe he met his wife there, I found a bunch of new friends and he was huge in helping out the Providence community. He loved it. Everybody loved him. He eventually called up to the bruins and moved on to Edmonton and his widow Emily was on hand and she and their good friend Austin zonic. They hadn't seen each other since before he passed because of all the COVID stuff from me. She had a very long abrasive, very emotional scene. I mean, I know you saw this. It was a horrible thing losing Colby, but it was a really beautiful scene the other night in Providence. Yeah, it was. 5 years ago, that's a long time to be on one AHL team and he really cemented his legacy there to see his wife there and see his friend Austin have that hug. It was tough to watch, but it's great that his number in Jersey will be up there forever. And I mean, that's still just so, so shocking and heartbreaking to think about that he's not with us anymore because you could tell from what everyone said he was a truly special guy. So really tough scene, but also a pretty emotional good thing to see with the emotion that his wife and Austin show together. Well said what? Well said brother. Note on the world juniors in 2023. It's going to be a Canada somewhere. There's no FrontRunner, but it's going to be somewhere either combination of Halifax monk then Quebec and if I can pronounce this correct trois river, how do you say it? Well, there you go, three rivers. Ottawa. Now these cream in his pants right now. I should have wanted to go back minor peewee tournament just for saying that the way. You couldn't even make the travel team. The last one, saskatoon, names Regina. All right, boys. It's from. Yep. From where the Regina pats plan of his brother for the football team. I always hear that. 40 year old virgin when he's got one of the dates and the girls, she's like, she's like, what's up? Name's jaina. You don't remember that scene fucking. All right, for your residents. A modern classic. I know other people out there. I'd rather, I'd rather get my chest waxed than fucking hear you say that line again. Kelly Clarkson. That movie we're talking. Deep corral should have got a fucking academy, nomination for that comedy is never get it. The mask does this weekend. Scotty shuffling gets a big lead. Does not even come close to gag in it way. Rory McIlroy, Rory has a hell of a run Sunday, can't catch him. The other golf guy went good. Oh, it's just a supremely disappointing weekend. And that sounds unfair 'cause I like Scottie shepherd. I believe I mentioned him on the podcast. Did I not take time?.

"Winning teams in tampa. I'd be very confident. Happy that he's the guy redoing it in detroit and maybe it's not this year and maybe it's not next year but at some point this is going to be a good team. Lucas raymond is a really high. Pick the highest. Pick detroit's ads and steve eisenman. Maybe that's wrong. But he's one of the highest picks. They've had thirty fucking years. And he's a stud from sweden who i don't know what the impact he'll make this year is put detroit won't make the playoffs. But they're on the right path. And i think if you're a wingspan. After all the success you had all you can ask for us to have a plan put in place and that is going on there. Stevie sticky you we is back is going to be a lot bigger and more mobile and contributed more offensively. This philip how do you say his last name roenick. It's on a or. I just say but i don't know yeah. Horon their team and led their team in points last year. It seems as though maybe he's going to be bumped back to that. That second unit of defensemen is you say second unit apparently second unit comparing he signed a pretty good deal three years at four and a half a year but they got to see some stuff from the young guys. Flip phillips edina. He was the guy that they drafted. I wanna say six overall. They got few guys six over on. You mentioned raymond as well. Not sure if he's going to start the season in the nhl but yeah they're gonna start seeing some some more stuff from the young guys. And i'm sure they're going to get a lot of reps year in a year where where they're not looking too good but they got the usuals as larkin vertucci and fabri and a few other guys in the mix but it just sucks because like they had a few other big guys on the back end that dan takaiser he had back surgery two thousand nineteen and he just hasn't been the same sense so i don't know guys. I know that he's going to help out a little bit and help both those younger guys but this is. This is definitely not a playoff team. Agreed agree as well. You know after you have a dynasty you need to pay the piper in the redmond's frankly it's still paying the piper. After all those great years. I know that last cup was what not to rub it in. Wit await thirteen years but they're still contend for a few years after that and then you've got to bottom out but hopefully get back soon there iraqi franchise and biz after spending a weekend in detroit downtown. At the old chilly. I can see why steve you might ask is about smoking grass all the time because place smelling cheech and chong's living room for the whole fucking week. We are out there. You can definitely find it easy in detroit for sure you've got anything there. That's what i heard. I don't can't confirm and by the way the cup odds one hundred fifty to one. I wrote them down to get them out there. One fifty to one so none of us think they're gonna make the playoffs g. You don't have to correct. I do not all right. Moving right along florida panthers pretty decent season last year. I know the only lasted one. Round in the playoffs they lost to the eventual champion. Tampa bay four games to two very entertaining series. But there's no reason team can't build on on what they built. Last year going into this year they said by offering keith. The endel goalie chris. Dj who got picked in the expansion draft the bringing in one in sam reinhart their cup odds a seventeen to one. This is a team. We've said it before they've been league. Christ a quarter century now and they can't really get traction. They got a lot last year in the playoffs. If they can have a great season this year they can maybe finally get something going on the east side of florida wet. What do you got for the panthers. I got i got a team that you gotta be really excited about that. I think's gonna compete to win this division now. A lot of that depends on goal tang. I don't really know how. This is gonna play out with spencer night and i understand that the ugly making ten million but at some point is he your backup. I don't really know what's going to go on there. But i just look at barkov and who radio and think reinhardt was an unreal. Move getting him there. I look at. I look at what sam bennett did. When he got over. Came over. From calgary and i think with joel quenneville and eck plaid coming back after getting injured in the middle of what was his best career best career season. I just think there's a lot of things that it'd be really excited about now. I don't know if in end they can win a stanley cup. But i also think that this is a time where you're actually very excited in terms of bruins fans this year this year being a season. You're kind of maybe a little wishy washy on. If you're a panthers fan the eleven of you you gotta be faulk and fired up for this year because they have never looked as good as they have going into a season. Then right now i mean you pretty much touched on it all going back to top five pairings in the league wieger act blab definitely up there do claire. He's finally found a home. He gets that three year extension. And and i couldn't agree more as far as those pickups bennett looked like a completely different player. When coming over from calgary point per game you know what you're getting from from barkov and as far as guys up front probably the most well-balanced forward lineup in this division or one of them. You got tronto. Who's a twenty goal score on the fourth line horn quist on the fourth line as well nola chari who. I loved him in boston. I know they couldn't keep him because a salary cap.

"We'll talk about that but let's get into the one signing. I did wanna talk about because this was really interesting. I did not see this coming to be totally honest with you but big jumbo joe. Big joe is now a member of the florida panthers. The florida panthers have done some excellent signings over the past couple years and i mean they were second in the central division last year beating out tampa bay even and they went out and got even more players. I mean sam right. Sam reinhart alone scares the crap out of me The fact that. He's on that stacks. Florida panthers team and then they go out and get big jumbo. Joe so does. Does that mean that. The florida panthers could be considered as a stanley cup contender right now. Which starts on that. Obviously thornton thinks so. I mean we all know. There's only one reason he's going there right now. That's one is up and he thinks that that team can do it. I definitely think that they can. I think they're definitely at least at least a good playoff team. Without a doubt. I feel like if they have a really good regular season they could definitely be contender. But get a lotta this so these are the players. Did they have on their their team right now. And this is insane So alexander barkov. Johnson hubert of those guys have been around for forever for the For the florida. Panthers you got carter for hagi who scored eighteen goals last season in forty three games. He was on. I I mean his comments along with Michael's and risk the line ins during the during the right after the season ended. We're pretty pointed and clear. He does not want to be part of a rebuild another rebuild here in Buffalo, and it seems like to me at least I'm not sure if the Sabres are going to be a legitimate contender for the playoffs, at least for another two seasons. So if that's the case How do you feel? They're going to try and approach Sam Reinhart this offseason. Do you feel that A trade is is the best scenario this offseason? Or do you feel that maybe another year under contract you train them at the deadline might benefit the Sabres a little bit more than something like that. How do you feel about this or or are you even on the boat? Maybe if you try and make Sam Reinhart your new leader because don Granato spoke so highly about him in the off season and He's a leader, and he's a guy that is one of the best players on the team. How do you make this out? Well, I think your number one priority would be to try to get him signed long term, But we all know he's done with Buffalo, and he does not want that. And so that that I think priority is out the window. I don't think you're going to get that. I think now is the time to trade him more than waiting because you don't want to get to a point where he could become an unrestricted free agent. Or you just have to take a bad trade because you want to get well. We've got to get something for some type of a trade. So and you know, to a point to when he becomes a restricted free agent. Teams can talk to his agent, so they'll know. If they if he's if they have a chance to sign him if they're going to acquire him in a trade Because they could be also negotiating with him for an offer sheet if they wanted to, so his agent will be available to talk to The Sabres can't stop that. You know once once the contract runs out, and he becomes a restricted free agent So you know they any trade they want to do. At least the team that's trading forum would have an idea of Sam Reinhart would be on board are open to a contract extension. All right, Paul. Well, you're going to be in co hosting with Howard on Monday. Is that correct? Yes, Monday and Thursday. Very good. All right. Well, thanks again for taking the time today and we'll talk to you again on Monday and enjoy the weekend. It sounds good. Thanks for having all right. Paul Hamilton joining us here in the Western hotline. And the last question that I asked was about Sam Reinhart in his future. I definitely want to get into that when we come back. I've got my own thoughts on the Sam Reinhart situation. Corey, I'm sure you've got some thoughts on the Sam Reinhart situation and you could call in with your thoughts on the Sam Reinhart situation if you if you choose to do so. 80305 50 will get into Sam Reinhart. "That, of course, has coached a lot of football, not at the NFL level, but His teams know how to put up points and Expect guess exploit matchups like Okay, give him some blue chip talent. Offensively, I think they'll score. So they to me are a very interesting team. The other story, the other quarterback story, um, with regard to the Have one of the two quarterbacks doors is the Packers win. Total is back on the board. You can bet over under on winds. And the Packers win. Total had been down because they don't know who the quarterback you know. No one knows the quarterback is going to be what would you bet? Saw a wind total posted for them back up at nine. So Don't know. That means there's a resolution coming with Aaron Rodgers. But I've seen a wind total back on the board. You can bet on them again. If it's nine that would make me think that there's no Rogers with Rodgers. It's the easiest over ever. Maybe they just want to put it on the board so people can bet one way the other on Rogers 80305 50 Let's go to Mike and Hamburg. Mike. Good morning. You're on W. T. R. Hey, I just got a quick question, guys. Where you guys I just want to know what is worse us. Never seen Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart Plants center. Jack, I cord first center, and Reinhardt is our second center together. We've never seen that or Coach, saying that Skinner is terrible. It's another. It's Yeah, Mike. It's another saying where you're like. I can't believe it happened that they drafted those guys one and two, and we never actually got to see an extended run of the two of them playing center. Yeah, no, never will never see it. It's it's close. It's unbelievable, man. Unbelievable. Yeah. Thanks, Mike. Thanks the phone call. I mean, if if we went through and and just did a Exercising of Sabres demons. Right. Just can you believe they did that in the last six years? There are a lot of I can't believe that happened. This skin The Reinhart thing is, is one of them. Hey, the head coach, and they thought, Let's put Reinhardt at center and he did great. And now they're gonna trade him. I can't believe that happened, you know. Uh, What else is on the list Brayden? They had a goaltender with with a vision problem. Yep, I can't that I can't believe that happened. Ah, Let's see. There's just so many. There's so much. Skinner on the fourth line for me is always it when When they were falling apart, and Jason Botterill said, like we have a, you know. We won more. We're better than we were last year. Last year. You were last dead last. I can't believe the GM took credit. I mean, they they traded a guy who said he lost his love for the game. And then a guy over the course of the last Three years has said. Well, I know that I'm going to get traded because there's going to be moves coming and he was openly willing to go anywhere and he was just like no, no, no, no, we're going to keep him over the guy who lost his love for the game, and the next year he goes on once the cans might so on and so forth. That one really is amazing. That's not even all their fault. It's just and you know what the funny thing is. Jack Eichel almost said something very similar to Ryan O Reilly the very next year and guess what he stays because obviously he's the captain and the franchise player. And now, uh, he goes out and says what he says, and it's all but assured, Maybe not all but assured, but it's very, very likely that he's on the move. Yeah. I'm not trying to dump on them today because again like I think they're making some nice hires. I liked the idea of San Pantora coming in. They're going to have some drafts. They're going to be there's going to be, you know, a bunch of stuff. So whatever I'm excited, excited is not I anticipate What do I want to say? They're turning the page. It's happening, okay? I am refreshed at the idea of a new set of people, I suppose at the coach at some of the hires. I hope they make the right moves. But yeah, but I mean, exercising the demons of I can't believe they did that. I can't believe they called up Dalton Smith to fight a guy right? And he only played 1 26, and that's likely his NHL stats. And I think he is the all time leader in Sabres course here, something like one of the advanced as the all time leader expected goals because he was on the ice and they had a couple chances. I just still can't believe that I just can't believe they did some of these things, but anyway Thanks to Mike and Hamburg for Coleman. Hey, you can call in and we can get connected with our fans. Brought to you by Bond. Schenkkan King, a full service Buffalo law firm. I was thinking about these next couple days. You know, it's Britain and I are here. Today. Tomorrow and Thursday with no Howard. And I mean without Howard's the heavy lift. It's like playing 100 holes of golf, You know, need some caddies out there. So if you guys want to call him and catty And, uh, you know, pass out to take Offer up a phone call. It's more than welcome. At any point. We'll talk to Sal coming up at the top of the hour as well. And, uh, take any phone calls. You got any thoughts? Any texts? Any tweets are welcome..

"Sabres Hey, look, we all know about risk alliance weak spots and makes them difficult to trade The sables Bill. What are you talking about? He's great. We play in 25 minutes tonight. We love them. There's one team that really likes grass mistress the line because of how they use him, and it's the Buffalo Sabres, and nobody else would say Rasmus. First aligning should be played the way you're playing him. So it's like it's this huge, self inflicted wound that stretches across general managers and coaches. Is Rasmus crystalline. This like conundrum of a hockey player. He's big. He's tall. He's mean, we should play him this way. And everybody else who watches him is like absolutely not. You're doing it wrong. He should be like your second pair or third pair and play them on the power play. And that's it. Yeah. I mean, I mean recipes for cell line in this tale. I think we've talked about this plenty of times where he's a guy that certainly has some upside for the type of defenseman that he was. Touted about, but he gets too many minutes in the NHL, and he gets thrown at in all sorts of situations, and sometimes it's it's a little bit of information overload. I feel like for wrist aligning, and that's why I think we saw a little bit better. A version with Ritalin and when Kruger came in, because Kruger's simplified things so easily for a guy like crystalline, and it was just like, go out there and just be yourself player game. Don't worry about the complex stuff that goes into a defensive system. Just Just do you and I think we're still in and got that so easily that he actually started looking better. And then when don Granado took over, we saw other players step up. More players step up their own game and re Selena kind of I didn't I don't necessarily want to say went back and just stayed with old ways to stay the same. He kind of stayed the same. Maybe regress just a little bit, But like it was, it was clear Cut where it was just like Hey, like Ralph Krueger actually helped Rasmus for cell lining, but almost everybody else on the roster. It was a really bad thing for him to be. In the position that he was the way the Sabres use him almost guarantees negative outcomes for them when they're on the ice, and when he's on the ice because of his usage and everything they do for him. That's not true of Sam Reinhart. That's not true of Jack Eichel. When they use them, they produce great outcomes for them. In fact, you could say there that Reinhardt was underutilized until he got played at center and started really taking off with Granado there, even though he was, but for most of the year, he was consistently good for them, right. And that risk the linen would be the one who stays to do more damage to the team. Beyond the losing Reinhart and Michael would be catastrophic, like the first guy that should go as rust, aligning And you should do everything you can to keep Michael and to keep Reinhart and to keep that together because taking that one defenseman who's played 10 minutes too long every night off the ice and replaced with somebody else where you distribute the load, and everybody's playing better. Probably gets them how many more wins a season 56. And if you have a good goaltender You may be looking at 10 wins. And if you're looking at 10 lens suddenly you're you're at eighth place or seventh place and you're in the playoffs and you can stop worrying about this garbage. I mean, for a guy like crystalline in He's I mean, he puts up production He does because he's put on the power play. He's a good kind of guy. You throw it on the point at the power play a second power play unit guy, Definitely not a first power play unit guy. He doesn't have to be at the you know, doesn't have to be in front of the net. I know that some people like the idea of him being thrown in front of the net. But he's a guy that could be an offensive contributor, but he needs his his minutes limited big time. And throughout his entire tenure here, he was thrown right into the fire. He was thrown in given a bunch of minutes and I think it was a bunch of information overload for him. And I think a lot of teams around the league, see wrist, align and see his advanced stats and kind of see what kind of happens when that situation is presented to him, and I think a lot of teams are saying we should probably avoid that or unless they have a plan. That is perfect for Russell. I'd like. For example, if Bristol lining gets traded to Tampa Bay. I think he's great on Tampa Bay because they know how to utilize their clam. Right, right. Exactly If you give him to a really good team like a Tampa Bay. I mean, even like a Colorado he's gonna play bottom pair minutes. But that's perfect for wrist a line in and if he's going to be given offensive opportunities, and that's even more better for him. And it works for him more because he is given less of a workload for himself. And it's fine, which is a big problem structurally for the Sabres, because if the Sabres keeping crystalline it means they're going to continue to utilize him incorrectly, they're going to utilize other players incorrectly. That's a system problem that this organization problem. Yeah, And I think that if I mean at this point, and I wrote about this just before the start of the shortened season, I'm actually it might have been just before the draft and free agency began in October or something like that. I get I remember When exactly wrote this, But I wrote an article that was very similar. Are that not very similar, but it it was an idea that At this point, you might just want to trade wrist align, and for whatever you can get first off. You're freeing a camp at a $5.4 million, which would be huge for the Sabres, and especially if you're going to trade Jack Eichel, too, And you're not gonna have to worry about paying Sam Reinhart. If you trade him, and then you're going to lose somebody to a Seattle expansion team out. Speaking with Brian Duff yesterday, the Sabres in game TV host And pretty much he he made the point where it's just like you're going to free up a bunch of money just by trading these guys and letting one guy going the expansion draft alone. You're freeing up about $16 million off your cap it which is huge, because then you can make other bigger moves to help your roster. Whether that's acquiring another player to come in, or You know, utilizing that money to sign a better player offer sheet. Somebody you get all that cap space. Why not just offer sheet somebody, But then everybody's gonna say we're going to lose all your draft picks. It's just like, Yeah, I get it..

"And then it's a barren wasteland in Anaheim. The Jack Eichel is in where the prospects that the futures that third overall pick Perot ors egress or Drysdale like that those young guys that were coming up in the organization. Well, they're not around me anymore. Next year. Michael can say no to that. This year. He cannot And to me. That is the argument for why the Sabres move him Now it is accepting the reality of the situation that To be a good team next year to be a playoff team next year. They need 567 things to happen right that are extremely unlikely to happen, and it could. I cannot see them getting an above average starting goalie in this team next year. I don't know how they do that. I don't see how they get anybody for Sam Reinhart. That dramatic that improves their chances of being good next year than Sam Reinhart and You're going to be young. You're going to have youth. That's just the direction of the organization. Last year they tried. They brought in veterans. They tried to get better, and it fell off a cliff. You can't do it again. You cannot do again what you did last offseason by saying, Well, let's just throw this on the team and this on the team this other team like you said, What was the word you use? Patchwork doesn't work for whatever you want to say. Rip off the duct tape. We're done with it. Start over. That's where you're at. And the way you start over is by moving those guys now. Because if you don't Next year. It gets way harder to trade Jack Eichel. Way harder. Yeah, and Dan, it could happen. Who knows? Maybe they just Hit it out of the park on every single move. This off season. I am not going to hold my breath, and there is nothing that this organization has done within the last. I don't know, Decade. Two. Lead me to believe that they can do it. Right? So I'm using a little bit of history and a little bit of odds to come to this. Realization that this team is going to be bad this year and probably next year. They really haven't done. They haven't done a start over. This is The other the things that Trying to piece together a playoff team hasn't worked. I made a bills comparison a couple weeks ago to that. For years. The bills Would keep their veteran guys around. They would they would try Ryan Fitzpatrick. They would try Tyrod Taylor Kyle Orton. They would try to just patch it together. They would try to Throw together this mishmash of players, then they would try to win and what would happen they would get Sometimes they would get kind of close they would win 6789 games because why they were trying to squeak into the playoffs every single year. And when did they actually get great?.

"Guys that are getting you. You know, 55 60 points a year and 25 goals. They're not nine plus million dollar players. So here's the gamble. The Sabres If you had a one for one trade, Chuck Ryan art and why I think it's possible because the Calgary Flames would get some Reinhart and they know what he's getting. You is consistent. They know what he's getting You, Matt, you could chalk, you're getting them. Okay, which I think And we all think is the better player. But there's a gamble here. He could be a 90 point player, or he could be a 65 point player, but you have to pay him. 19. Oh, you know what he consistently does. And those are great points. Marty, I must mention if you're just tuning into the instigators here on W G R 5 15 MSG we're talking about how supposedly macro Chuck wants might want might being the key word one out of Calgary? A Shane O'Brien said yesterday with Steve Coleus on the power play podcast. Um, but you know what? You know what could Chuck does consistently that we don't have Sam is very consistent. He's very consistent. Okay? Um, but what could Chuck does consistently is he makes the opposing team It makes him uneasy. Every time he's on the I said, You know, Sam. Sam is a very creative, crafty player. But I mean, when you know when market took doesn't have the park is sometimes when he is most effective. You know, like And I can pay for that. I'll pay for that because we haven't had that in such a long time. And I'm afraid that even with the money and Rev, I don't know if you agree or disagree, or Marty, I I feel like you will disagree. Um Even with the money That could Chuck is still worth more. He's we're talking about a $2 million difference between a Matthew Chuck moving forward. Sam Reiner. And both are fantastic players. I take nothing away from Sam Reinhart the differences when you look at both of them. What do you see? Matthew could Chuck as a power play guy. So the answer is yes. Yeah. And Sam Ryan hurts the same When you look at penalty killing Matthew could. Chuck is a penalty killer. Sam Reinhart is a Um, Is there some the chuck down? Yeah. He's a down the chart a sub penalty killer. When you look at, um Your leadership. Okay? Sam Ryan hurt. Where's the name here in Buffalo. And so does Matthew. Could Chuck in Calgary. Okay, when you look at physicality One has physicality, and one does not have physicality. I think I could account on two hands. How many times Sam's made a body check last year and you can count on two hands most nights where mask it chucks has 10 hits. He's nasty. He's aggressive. He irritates other teams. He sticks up for his teammates. He is a true competitor. And I think the way he plays the game. It would be something that Buffalo fans would salivate over a man like this wearing their jersey Well, the problem is a lot of teams would right. No. Yeah, but a lot of teams would but who has players that Like the personal injury does not want to trade Matthew Chuck for first round draft picks Exactly who has a player they want to get better. And Sam Ryan hurt is a player right now that's sitting on in the palm of their hands, saying Sam can be a really good player, and he has a history in Calgary to. I mean, Sam's dad played there right and can write, and it's tough lesson Is Calgary. A tough place to find First star players to want to go play is it does a destination. Pop it. It's a It's A It's a tougher place right now. It was they have a young player like Sam who would want to play for Calgary, which is beneficial for them. It wasn't a tougher It wasn't a tough place when they are Jerome again. Law and they had to keep herself in that and people are like, Oh, Calgary is a great team, and they go either. As Buffalo Buffaloes buffaloes an unbelievable place to play. People would love to get to have the right setting right, so but here's the thing. Like magic and Chuck, if made available, there's gonna be a liner teams wanting to acquire bench. You get chucked, but who has the quality of players that they would want to trade with Calgary to make that deal happen? And there's not a ton of teams out there most teams would say, just like we're doing with Jack Eichel right now. Would say. Okay, well, we'll give you like a high draft pick, maybe high prospect, high end prospect and maybe another player. The Sabres in this situation could say. We have Sam Reinhart that we may want to trade. We have Rasmus wrist alignment that we may want to trade like there is maybe Jack Eichel. I don't think Jack Eichel is in that conversation. But still, the Sabres have players. And good players that you know slippers would be looking to a change of scenery, bringing somebody different. Different culture. What is conquering need? What do they need for MCA? Check? What would they desperately need A return a defenseman? No. No. They would need a They would need a roster played. They would need somebody that would. This is the perfect in my opinion, the perfect match. Uh, you know, if that was a dating app it would be like green checks left and right on this one, because you get Energy guy in Buffalo and Kichak that can play as Riff said partly penalty Kill brings a Naj Can put that also has great leadership. Yeah. Great leadership and Calgary gets somebody down the middle. Maybe Okay. Maybe Reinhard plays down the middle, but somebody that consistent that puts up points that will score 25 goals a year like they would get a great return. I I think this to me makes perfect sense. It's lowering the cap to for Calgary. Like Marty said before they're going to have to qualify him. He's gonna be making $9 million next year. Well, can you bring in Sam Reinhart for 6.5? Maybe 6.75 on on a six or seven year deal. And you're paying them 2,000,002 and a half million less than what you're going to be paying, you know, Matthew, Good Chuck, and they feel that they're probably going to get the same type of player, a player that's going to produce offensively and You know this could be a great match for both sides. Someone wants to send. They want to trick they would trade Jack straight up for Coach Arc. That's what someone is saying here on Twitter. Not a chance, not a job watching this. This has come into the point where I would say, Petey, you You did that yesterday and I laughed when you talked about like You. It's been So long now that the discussion with Jack getting traded has started and the neck and all of that that After time in our minds, value starts to decrease. The value starts to come down because we've we've almost made our mind that the trade is going to happen. Whatever needs to happen the staff and it's like you put your house on the market. You say? I want 500,000 for that house, but it sits on the market six months and it's on the market eight months and now you're like I traded jabs for two first yesterday marked exactly I'd be happy to get 400. I'd be happy to get 3 50 for that $500,000 house, right? That's that's what is going on right now is the longer it goes. Our minds is thinking. Oh, like to make that trade to happen, We'll take class. We'll take a little less. I don't think that's happening with Kevin Adams. And that's why I think it's gonna take a long time and it may not happen this summer. I don't think it's going to happen to summer, Jack. Because you've got to get the right return You Kelly at Freedman yesterday was he said, didn't he? I the Sabres are asking for a boatload and they should be asking for a boatload. They're asking for a ton. Yeah. How many teams in the league actually have The equity to acquire Jack Eichel, then. Well, that was my next question. Like I remember. Um I think it came out and this was this was a while. Back when You know there was unhappy. You know, feelings with Jack and and the team, and then they started talking about okay. What's it gonna cost? And they said for First round picks. So what does that mean? That doesn't mean four first round draft picks. That means players that were either drafted as first round draft picks. Um and you would need for them. Correct? Yes, yeah..

"You've already heard it. I I I agree 100% with Marty. We are not making a deal unless we are blown away. Period. We're talking about a top 10 player in the world. A top five center in the world. This guy is a elite. Superstar. Let's not on a star. He's not a star. Well, let's let's sleep duper start in this game and he's 24 years old. Well, let's switch. Let's switch focus, then we're focusing solely on Jack. But but okay, Elliott Elliott also said that they could be talking about or are maybe talking about Sam right? There's that they could be interested or are they are interested in both players, Maybe not together, but one or the other. So what if it's Sam Reinhart? Sam's, You know Sam's worthy of a third overall pick. And Oh, And that was the second overall pick who has produced like a second overall pick. I'm used he's produced now. I think you can get the third overall pick and maybe another prospect, but it's not gonna be Higher and like the 1st 3rd overall pick, as has got a great value, so you know You've got to put that aside and say if you're trading Sam getting the third overall pick and something you're doing well, you're doing really well, um, I'd can you not say Com Twan number three for Sam Reinhart? Uh, I think that's too much myself. But I don't know I'd much rather to be honest with you had much writer if they use Sam Reinhart are rest, Mr Mr Lyon. To get players back as opposed to draft picks. You got the first overall pick and with with Jack, you can get the third overall, our top 10 picks and multiple assets. With salmon, Bristol. You're going to either get really high end picks or players, but you're not going to get boat at the higher end. So I think that much writer use salmon resto, possibly to get players back. To get support to get to get good players. Maybe they're not Z graces and Drysdale and Quentin by field and you know key Andre Miller. But they can be really, really top end players that are just a step below that, and I think that's what you need to do with Sam Reinhart and rest Mr Salon. And if You're going to be trading them as opposed to say We got a really good high pick for him. Yeah, well, we're going to wait another 345 years for that draft pick to be good. Um, that's not Reboost ng the Sabres to where they're at now moving forward. Instigators. Marty's here Daryn Drager at 11 30. We sent out a tweet if the Sabres ended up with an extra top 10 pick in this year's draft. What would you like to see them do with it? We don't have to answer that just yet, Craig because I think did you just want to say something extra to what Marty was saying? Or you want to move on to that? So what do you think of that Tweet? What would you want to see A lot of response. A lot of response from fans and it's great. I love the fan interaction right now. Um, Summer. Tell them what you guys good player. Someone put us in draft a good player. Some are talking about Dylan Gunther. Mad burn ears. There's uh, you know when there's a kid in there, too. There's a lot of different opinions on it. If you can get one and three You're sitting at a really top tier defenseman, obviously in power. Draft prospect. I can't say in the NHL and number if you get number three. You could have a shot at a pretty good forward there, too, between a Ben ears or or that Gunther Gunther or Echlin. Ekland. So right now, like You're looking at, Uh, you know Ken Johnson's It's a center at Michigan as well. So you have power. You have Johnson, Gunther's sitting at number. What, five in the, uh Uh, the place is usually around number seven or eight is what he's usually ranked. Um, but there's a lot of great things coming out about Gunther Ba Nears seems to be the Number one forward available in this year's draft. Um But again a lot of these players. You have to realize a lot of these players have not been watched due to, you know, the you know, Pandemic and Covid, and they have not played as many games is maybe in a in a normal draft year, so it's going to be a little bit trickier. To to make this, uh You know to make there are kids that going into this year's draft were probably rated or would have been raided in the fourth round and they would go in the first round. There are kids that well, there are kids in this in every draft here. I'm saying not this draft every draft here. There are kids that are rated in the first round at the start of the season, and they end up going in the third round. I played with Adam College Act, um of the year after he was like touted Top 10 pick and he ends up going in the fourth round. The next year. Just had a bad Alan Macaulay. You know, there are guys that are that are highly highly touted. And they end up going later. And there are guys that are that go away later or ranked later? Well, the thing with that's why this is the most screw a year for for draft prospects, and it's hard because so Dylan Gunther at a really solid under 18 tournament with team Canada looked really good played with scene right and played with Who is the other guy out West? That's not going to get drafted until 2023. Contribute art kind of a dart. Right. So those like he stood out. He looked talk about car Bedard, but there's a Russian Hockey player born in 2005, That is a monster that is going to be next year. That's the 2023 draft. Yeah, right. Shane, Right is going to be a bona fide number one overall pick I There's sure in 2022, then 2023. You're going to have Connor Bedard and there is a there is a player forward from Russia. That is a monster. He is absolutely insane. So what? It's going to be one of those two. That will go first overall, as far as I'm concerned, but yeah, but we're looking at 2023, but what I'm saying this year. What is weird Is that so? You have guys that performed well at the younger 18, For example, Like Dylan Gunter performed really well at the under 18. I watched a lot of their games. You know it was on NHL network here in the U. S. I don t s and Canada you watch the games. He looked really good. But then you look at some of those draft prospect that played at the World championship, and now they're playing at a whole other level..

"So I believe and some veteran players Yeah, in 98 99. They were fort in the Northeast Division. Okay, so Carolina made the playoffs. Carolina made the playoffs out of the Southeast because they were the top team, right? And they were basically they had They had 37 wins. They were the worst team going in. Carolina was worse, but they got a third seed because they cleanse the division, but they were Out of the other seven. But they had the right makeup, though, didn't they? They maybe didn't have the right makeup for regular season hockey. When all the penalties were called, I guess we're going back to the original question Was, Would you trade Jack for right? Um, Mich martyr. Right? Yeah, well, I mean, conversations they know to read to go. To go back to that. I wouldn't trade Jack for Mitch Marner. And it's it's I'm not saying that Mitch Marner is not equally on the same level as a Jack Eichel because he absolutely is times 10. All I'm saying is, I would be looking to move an extremely Productive player in a Sam Reinhart, who's basically the same age as Mitch Marner, who has produced less than Mitch Marner, but his still Who's still produced tremendously for the team that he's been on. And I look at Sam Reinhart, who's going to be you Look at Toronto. They have a cap issue. They have a tremendous amount of money tied up in in a in a couple players. I think Sam Reinhart would be a great addition and cost a lot less. Than a Mitch Marner. That's all I'm saying. And you're right. I mean, the idea if you're going to try to fool them, and I'm not saying giving them Sam Reinhart is is you're wrong. I'm not fooling it's no, no, no, I'm making it really good trade. I think. Yeah, but that's not the player you're gonna have to give. That's not where they're going to want No disrespect to Sam. Don't take it personally, if you're listening. But that's not the player they want. It's just have to settle. They may have to set off. It might be wrong there because you have a guy like, um is it Hyman Was an unrestricted free agent this year. That's gonna that he might praise himself out of the buffalo or the Toronto May police and now you're you're looking at trying to manage a cap where you have more players wanting more money. You're already paying these top guys a ton of money At some point in time, you might have to say. Sam Reinhart isn't Mitch Marner. Buddies damn close in a lot of areas because Sam playing with some really good players is going to produce without question. Well, then maybe it goes back to the Johansson million dollars. You're talking $4 million amounts. Big dollar amount $4.5 million difference between Mitch Marner and Sam Ryan hurt. Maybe you gotta do Darlene for Marner. Maybe it's more like the Seth Jones for Ryan Johansen deal. You know, Maybe it's something like that. We can talk about that later. If you want to. We can talk about it another day, But we've run out of time in this saying we have to go to break instigators. When we come back. We'll do to the point. I'll throw that in there. Can I ask you guys a question and throw that in there? Just a question before we go to the point. I want to test your NHL. Um, knowledge or history knowledge. Just quickly. Something that I just noticed, And I'm like I didn't even know Dad happened. How long do you need? 30 seconds. Do it right now. In 97 98. The Sabres were in the division with Boston, Montreal, Ottawa, Carolina and this other team who won the division named that team. I never knew the Sabres were in the same division with that team in Hartford. Nope. Hartford wasn't there in 97 98. Well, that's not my fault. So Boston, Buffalo, Montreal, Ottawa, Carolina and this theme Were in Buffalo's division in 97 98. Not Detroit, Detroit was out West bag down. Mm. The Pittsburgh Penguins gentlemen, the Pittsburgh Penguins were in the same division as Buffalo. They weren't with Philly. They weren't with the Rangers warned with the Islanders. I'm looking at the standings in 97 98. I'm like What, like Pittsburgh was not in the same division as Philly Rangers Islanders, New Jersey They were with us which surprised me. I didn't know why I remember that. You know, I remember that now because didn't Jay McKee absolutely clock Mario Lemieux at center ice? Take him out of the playoffs. With an open ice hit. Well, that was in, uh, 98. I think, Yeah. They didn't play in 98 against Pittsburgh. They played Philly in Montreal, and then they played Washington and lost the Washington Conference finals. Okay and skaters. He did hit him and he did in him. I I think that's in the 2000. One playoffs lot like it was a few years later. I didn't realize it was that much later. Okay. Alright. Different format. Maybe it might. It was that conference That was dog Conference playoffs, right? But so like it just I didn't know Pittsburgh was in the Buffalo Sabres division in 97 98. I didn't know that either. Instigators will be back with to the points to grow more to come. W g R Sports radio 5 50 all sports all the time. It's like I blinked. "Way know that the Buffalo sabers have lots of trade interest in Sam Reinhart leading right up to the trade deadline. The return just wasn't worth the value that you get in Sam Reinhart as a hockey player as AH high character individual. That position hasn't changed from Buffalo's perspective. Are they going to have to pay more in terms and maybe a little bit more in a V to keep this guy happened? That's what we don't know. I suspect over them might be the case. Yes, the sabers Darren Dreger on the instigators W GR earlier today, that time of year we talked about How or why or if it's possible to trade away their best players. That's on Sam Reinhart. One small point. I think it's small on this. Speculation about Eichel and like my Twitter was like this today, when I maybe when, when Darren was on the station or maybe not then, but it was like With the Rangers, but they don't want to trade this player like Laughren year with the king's maybe, but they don't want to trade this player by field. This idea of the best prospect and most of my Twitter is like, Don't even talk to them. Then just remember one thing. And you know those guys who make those points probably know this, but just remember one thing It's not like the the exact 30 best prospects out there are on 30 different teams. The same team could have the two best prospects in the league. Yeah, So I mean, I don't know There should be any sort of attitude about this, which is like if it's not their best guy. You can't have a conversation. I mean, it depends on who else they've got. Maybe it's possible that you could make a trade that you could live with. Yeah, I think I think so. But I I know. Um I mean, we'll see how it unfolds. But going in, like I said this early in the week like I I don't I don't want to hear about how you you are willing to include this guy Or that guy you're talking about Jack Eichel here and Um, you know, I know the situation is muddy because of the injury. Um, I don't. I really don't think legitimately any any player in any teams organization. Should be off the table. If you're talking about trading for that guy, especially guys who just showed up in the league and maybe haven't even played it all but are you know projected to be really good like you're trading for somebody who is already made. And is going to step into your line up and Be a real contender for the best player on your team, if not flat out the best player on your team. So you know, you want to make that deal you're giving up five or six years of age, you know, with a guy like by Field or Turcotte. Another name, maybe. L. A bolo by field that you could live with. You know, the Rangers Um, I think you know, laugh. Rainier. Adam Fox to me is a very interesting piece there. Um, little older, you know, he's not. He's not a big 19 year old or anything. Defenseman Real Brill's just came on like crazy this year. Um, so there's there's ways around. I think a toast with those two examples. The perceived top guy. Ah, but that's where you should be setting your sights, starting out for sure. I don't know you might not end up there because of the injury. Right on back to football.
