The Music of World Showcase in EPCOT

"If i say the music of epcot what's the first song that comes to mind. Probably something from future world and as we covered extensively back on show six nine six ten future world has background scores and attraction and so show themes that not only. I think resonate with us but are enjoyed by us beyond just our time in the parks. They are on our playlists and in our ears when we drive run exercise. I'm obviously like reaching and assuming those last two or whether we're just relaxing at home but why which is my favorite word. And i think it's probably because so. Many of these songs were created by disney for disney they are original themes built around the theme using the time-tested recipe of what makes disney music so memorable but for the other half of the world. Showcase much of the music is not only traditional but helps to set the stage and represents the culture of the participating nation. And these aren't songs. I think that we would normally associate with a theme park experience. Either that is like if we're talking about walt disney world But some of my favorite songs. That dizzy songs are found in many of these background. Loops of not just future world. But some of these world showcase pavilions and they always seem to bring a smile to my face as they hear them. Whenever or wherever i am and i said on the intro to the epcot show that that the music is very much a melting pot of so many cultures ideas ideals technology and different flavors. And it's a place that you can hear music that is as diverse as the pavilions and cultures and speaking of diverse. I want to continue our musical journey from future world to world showcase once again with friends who helped kick off this musical odyssey so i'd like to welcome back to the show. Lisa denote glasner from the castle. Run and core memory candles dot com to be back. Jason connect from here with the magic and the after our show on the facebooks. Hello it's good to be back with you guys and the one and only zac brown from the one and only the zac brown show. Everybody excited to be here. So i am excited for this. And i'm curious to one because i want to see if hopefully we can beat or not break record long. Our future world discussion was. But i think and i'm curious because we don't talk about this ahead of time how this may differ. Because i think again so many of those future world songs and themes are ones that we can mention by name. Papillon came up again. I think exactly you know if it was a drinking game and papillon was your word. You're in some serious trouble but so much of world showcases different because one. We can't pronounce many of the names the songs they don't necessarily roll off the tongue and they're not one that we might necessarily know by name but we know in terms of how they make us feel and they are there are some pavilions that have themes or some that. Just have background music that we enjoy very quickly. When and they'll round in the same order. When you think of world showcase when you think of world showcase music what is the first song idea pavilion. Thought that comes into your mind for me. I remember when we sat down to do or when was sitting down to prep for the future world. Show i joked that. I've never felt so prepared and so unprepared at the same time for a topic because it was like it was a topic. That's just sort of ingrained in my soul but at the same time i didn't know quite how i was going to articulate it and This show said hold by juice because like the rest of disney right is supposed to sort of insulate you from the rest of the world and i think the unique thing about showcases that it has the opposite job. It's supposed to transport you into the rest of the world. And so while you know so much of the music throughout disneyworld otherwise as supposed to sort of encapsulate you and bring you into this place. You know. the imaginary kind of didn't do their job right right if they did. If that's the result of in world showcase because the point of showcases to make you feel like you're not in central florida. It's supposed to make you feel like you're traveling around the world. As you're walking around world showcase so i don't know if i have a quick good answer to like what song first comes to mind. it i mean i could say something. Easy like golden dream of course. Which is you know sure. We'll talk about that more But now i think it's it's like background stuff. Like le vian rose and like the stuff that green and like that. The the the music that i just associate. Because i'm here. So much with walking around world showcase but at the same time you know like you said in the intro. It's not necessarily music that you're supposed to associate with a theme park. Don't you have a green sleeve. The greens leave story to which will have to get to. Because i remembered crossing the bridge an international gateway with you and i said isn't the screen sleeves using it yet and then you told me a story from your childhood is i am. I am right. I mean who doesn't have a green sleeve story like there's a green sleeve story and i want to don't jump ahead of ourselves but that really from my childhood i whistle. Inslee leaves all the time and it makes my mother crazy. Maybe i was just hoping it was from your childhood. Okay i i mean to answer the question. What's the first song pavilion jumps to mind. It's gotta be mexico and it's got to be the three cobb heroes right like that's got to be no actually. It's not that i think. The the for me world showcase had an anthem and no it can't be eliminations but it had an anthem. It would be basically the soundtrack to impress his france. Of course which. I am super excited about francine far away i know he s- t and wonderful. We'll get there For me it's kind of an unfair answer. I think about the international gateway. It's kind of this. Great little collaboration of everything that you're going to experience it's kind of the coming attractions. You know like lisa said you've got le vian rose and you've got a little bit of music piping in from like the china pavilion and everything just kind of blends and it just sets the overall tone and of prepares you for the pallet. That is in front of you whether it be musical or food you kind of preps you and gets you in the mindset that is world showcase and for me you know if i was to close my eyes and just say world showcases a couple of songs that jumped right to the top but one of them and this is actually a great way for us to begin. I think is. There is a world showcase background loop and being disney enthusiasts that you are. I'm pretty sure. It exists on your iphone or ipod your spotify playlist because this is one of the ones that i think people do have an play when their home or even in their cars or when they're working or walking or just relaxing and while you might not necessarily know the names of the songs if you were to listen through it and serbia following along this. This item list of the music yelich like. Yes inca dance by cousteau. That's my favorite song. Although you wouldn't walk into sam goody's not that there's a sam goodies but go with me here. You wouldn't walk in goodies and say i need incan dance on forty five guys have that. But i love the world showcase loop that you can hear on both entrances to where you could. We'll talk about some of the changes that came about relatively recently but those are some of the songs that i hear that like the future world entrance mentally

There's these new guys in town. Melissa and doug melissa indic- who who are they. They're they're crafts aren't usually wouldn't plan. They're married like real world kind of things. I got like an ice cream shop. Set for my godson he loved it in the scooper. There is little magnets. He could scoop out the scoops of ice cream cool. This is great. Because i was gonna get Just bought several toys as gonna get a baby games. Mostly gag gifts and as we get him a a lebron. James jersey and hamas rodriguez jersey and a t shirt had james vanderbeek on all of these fake james things that that would be very funny for me for sure. His parents would love him. Well i mean he's got plenty of toilets banal getting something that he'll actually enjoy the allergist baby baby james would even be aware of what you're doing and then later he'd look at is this live everything then wearing have james on the back because it's like three people in before realize what it is that you were doing brand. Actually i didn't get it until you've said it. You can always go with like i said one of the top dogs fisher price. I started looking at the old because once again toy fair toy fair year gives away their best toys of the year awards and i went back to like the ones from prior years. And actually a link that. Billy set me the fisher price hall of fame. I immediately regretted sending zo the link to the fisher price hall of fame because then that came up with him pitching. Hey you know we should do. We should have a guest come on the show and pitched the new toys for this year. Like so like i pitched the today show segments. Do you think that this is something that would be interesting to anyone. Dan is through. God's like maybe you wanna do elegant your own as like a podcast and talk to someone about toy. That's fine but where am i supposed to sneak that in our late show 'cause having someone to toys everyone of all child inside and who doesn't love like lawn popper or bubbles does love bubbles us. Have you done a lot of of black friday. And cyber monday shopping or not yet. Not a ton. This year kind of went for fewer better. Do bigger gifts. But i do have a fun tradition with my best friend's daughter and each year to give her in ornament that's tied to what she's really into that year and this is her third christmas though her first christmas. I got a buffalo plaid ornament that match the whole. Family's christmas pajamas. And last year she was one in half inches relating to bubbles so great segue got her a personalized level ornament in this year. She's really into baking and cooking with her dad. So i got her a little mixer on with her name on it and now she's old enough to recognize her name so she gets excited when she sees her name tree. What's her name. the sydney. So sweet shutout indian baby james. Getting toys for little kids is like way better than getting gifts for on buzz out there. Her grandmother just got us where the wild things are. I flipped out. Harold and the purple crayon laid out again a massive cookie. If you give them also cookie the hungry hungry caterpillar brown bear brown bear. Need i go on. Harry the dirty dog. So did you like not just choicers. Did you like like electronic. Serves you remember. Fye you went up specs for local sam goody sam goody we got when we got a sense of place and the virgin store opened. Love the virgin. Yeah you could use use to be able to preview. Cds they're right. It was awesome bud super expensive. Cd's a bigger part of my life for longer than night like even remember. 'cause i still. I know it feels. Like i've been part of the iphone or ipod generation forever but like even through high school like i was burning. Cd's stick in my car or like go on like trips with like a bus trips with my friends i would still buy cds like wall laughter. The ipod existed because my car had a cd player and my first car up until a couple years ago. I like four years ago. I was driving in ninety six honda. Civic right so as did every other kid in miami so ninety ninety six honda civic white and it had When i got it from my uncle who you know gave it to me because he was done with it. I put in one of those cd players in like the thing and then it got the seaplane got robbed when you're out of my car on my birthday. It was a strange sequence. But i had the cd player. So i was still buying cds. So like i'd be driving around and it's like oh i'm listening to be honest to your. Hey like there's a new taylor swift. Let me get taylor swift cb. Now that's what i call music eighteen. I was never in on that now. No i think that missed me. By ad will years fame. I was much more into like the gripping a ton of like mixing yay off of kazaa and yet make your own bells lime wire lymar just throwing our parents. Computers the wipe part computers like monthly. Because we have so many viruses from kazaa. Sorry mom and dad. My first car didn't have a cd player. So i had to get one of those attachments where you put the cassette tape. You man no shock. Absorption to every time. I'd like skip hit the ring. Skip the kids today. Don't know the struggle of an anti skip. Yeah i really dating myself saying it was great though actually made the mistake of buying the ipad or the ipod. Fm tuner man had one of those two things your exact station. it's still sound. I had the knock off what it was awful. Yeah i the knockoff. One two it was like it never worked. Last week is in the books.

Tall Guy with the beard is George. Okay Sorry I just always. I all look the same. I'll say that the like it seems like, yeah, I get it now he just looks so different. That it is and I've never seen enter August though I'm going to have to go back to that now. But I, you know you and I used to live together for a little while and I remember. Buying that movie from Gosh I, don't even remember you know at the time when they were like huge we would go to like Sam goody or something like get you know DVD's whatever was news DVD, and this is a cheap one. And you know it's got that guy on the front eating his own guts. Yes. Which is seen, does happen I think like towards the end of that movie but it's awful. So bad that might be why we even watched together that might be why you don't remember it because it was shots. And guess you're just trying to get to that themes. Because, that is a cool thing. You know like you WanNa put in the commentary. Oh, I must taste so good. On delicious. I am so delicious. So we've wrapped up this film with the girl that's in traction basically unbuckle ing herself and she stabs George Eastman in the is with this compass thing. Right? She's been drawing circles with. Yeah talking about. Yeah. So she stabs him in the is so he's walking around with his arms stretched out like he's Frankenstein's monster wandering the house just knocking shit over and you know she struggling to walk because I you know I. Who knows she has degenerative bone disease I don't know maybe your leg was asleep. The entire times just because her leg was asleep. As George Eastman knocks down this suit of armor that has a sword and this battle axe. Yeah. It'd be fair the battle axe quote unquote pretty wimpy looking but that's what she ends up cutting his head off with. Yeah as she just goes Adam, just add full. Gordon. And that's the end of the film when. He finally comes home..

"And, and I find that fascinating. Where do you fall on that continuum? Oh, you know, I think kids are simultaneously, like the worst in the best thing ever happened. You know, I mean they just destroy your, you know, everything, you know that life is gone, whoever you were before. But, but this other thing replaces that, and I also think kids, like for me, I just know that my kids are so little right now. I know how much they're taking from their mother and me right now. And I just know this is a seasonal thing like it's going to let up at some point it's going to be different. They're still going to take. But, like there's to try to just be into it as much as I can right now is the most important thing, but for me, it's just like it just reminds you of your mortality and you're limited time. I mean they just wake you up to like this dress rehearsal. You know, this is the show like you're in the show, dude. Like, what are you going to do? I think like from my last book, it was very much like, okay? I think it's any Dillard who says just spend it all over time, like every time he go the page. Spend it all just don't worry about holding anything back, just spend it all. And that's what the kids kind of. Of, you know, in the last book, I was just like I'm putting it all down and trying to get down now. And then I'll worry about the next one when it comes around that do feel any desire, or need to model of certain way of being living or earning your living, not just because it's what you wanna do, but also because, you know, they're watching, oh, absolutely. Yeah. I mean, that's the hardest thing about being apparent for me is the you got to become the kind of man that you want them to be, you know, like you got to become the kind of person that you want them to be 'cause you're their primary model and so that to me is the toughest thing about being the dad is like being the dude that you want them to turn into someone calm and not screaming all the time, you know, and not complete mess, but I do think I've gotten a little bit more. I was real cautious. I'm very cautious person. That's why I've always hated that George lowest quote about, you know, there's no such thing. A cautious creative like okay, well, then I must not be first of all, I hate the word creative is now. But whatever. But, you know, my wife and I are very cautious people. We've were very mid western in that sense that we just like we save a lot, and we don't make risky split decisions and stuff like that. And it is an interesting now that I have kids because I want them to be a little crazier than. I want. Yeah. I do want them to I'm like, go to Europe for a year before college back back. You know, I want them to be a little bit more, not, not as cautious as me. Because you, you know, you see your you get your approach ING middle age and see all the time that's behind you and you're looking thing about them. And also, you know, when you're thinking about climate change, and the way, the country's going just like man. I look at these kids, and I'm like, just just have fun. Just, you know, be, I think for them, they're not original but I want them to be privately happy and publicly useful. That's what I think for them. And that's what I want for myself to again, we're talking about that private or public. Right. I wanna be privately happy and I won't be publicly useful. I wanna be useful to the people who've gathered. Yeah. That makes sense. I know there was his right. I read it somewhere when you were kid, actually yourself, probably in your teens the league school project, where somehow you end up reaching out to winced. Yeah. Which I don't know who that is kinda legendary guy who that is. And what that interaction how that shaped because I think it kinda has into this conversation. So when I was thirteen or fourteen, you know, green day was the biggest band the ever in, especially if you're like small town Ohio, you could go the Sam goody and by Dookie..

"When I was working at Sam goodies. I didn't have the enthusiasm for that that I did for wrestling. You know, how do you guys maintain that enthusiasm on a week to week basis? I just get really excited for my friends. I see, you know, like, it's like watching people that you know, that you see putting it all this hard work and understanding like where they come from certain people getting opportunities that like somebody like Mustafa Ali like when he started doing so stoked for that. Dude. I'm so happy for the stuff. That's coming his way. And I really feel like this will be his year. But it's like when you see these people that are your friends and success comes her way. It's easy to keep you motivated and kind of keep you on task with that. What have you don't have any friends Corey? I'm a great liar. I should've been an attorney probably would have paid better. I can just turn it on. I mean, I don't know. Oh my God. This guy the loves their shorts gonna fight N W O. Incredible hulk right here, he's bursting through his jacket, ladies and gentlemen. Someone get that man a coat. It wasn't that good. Impressed that you could see that those were lots. I I've been staring at his lobster short the entire. It's quite distracted. You he's also wearing a little about ski shirt, which is one of the maybe the greatest movie of all time better than Chevy Chase mega myself with the pissing, Sicily that one scene gets me the rest of it doesn't really do. I see Bosque as a whole a real experience. Have you thought Rene about how you're going to handle doing the play by or the commentary for this Royal rumble match? Well, I'm doing the women's rove rumble match, right? So no. For the women's? It's a hard. No, no, I've not done a Royal rumble match. But I feel like the cool thing is no matter what every ninety seconds issue. Something else. News going to happen. So I'll just kind of go with that new story. Whatever comes out lo look who it is. Face to be counting down with everybody else. So I don't know. I'm just kind of going into it to have fun. I feel get sort of my mindset right now with sticking with the throw stuff against the wall and see what works and try not to be so serious and have together because I don't think it works for me. Maybe actually have fun. Yes. He's on my door. I don't care now means I have to write our what someone's prediction, and I want this to be as outlandish is possible. Not like uh think the guy that we all know is going to win is going to win best case scenario, sir. You and the Colorado Rockies shirt who wins the Royal rumble in y we'll get back to that debauchery momentarily. But folks, I know you all want to be a part of these live shows in when I do the live shows, generally, there's a lot going on in these towns if you were in Phoenix Arizona this weekend. You had no choice. You should have gone to annex t takeover to WWE Royal rumble too raw to smackdown, but buying tickets online can be so complicated. You might just say, Aw, screw it as much as I want to go. It's too much. I don't get it. We'll guess what? You don't have to get it anymore. But like, I think it's very sad. Because he's like his like, the least the last person you would want to have to go through so genuine sweet and like he was ever now. Yeah. I mean, he was never dick to me. But it's like. I could see what you know. Like who while but he's been sober for like almost three years. Now he thinks and yeah, it's it's just you know, he's he's he's accepting it, and he's going to be an adult about it. And he's very strong spiritually immensely. I think it'll be fine. It's just sad that he just got married like go like leave. Yeah. Put him very he just wants to get it over with, you know, like just get on there because he can turn himself in like up until a certain great. Yeah. So like, I kind of just go and be like, let's start this sooner sooner than later. Yeah. I get home. Maybe maybe get a couple of months of summer. Like, I'd rather be in jail in the winter. I don't know where now. I don't know where he'd seen. We've probably New Yorker New Jersey somewhere decent. He'll be with Joe Giudice hope. So they have similar crimes. They're both New Jersey. Yes. I don't know. Maybe they could strike up a friendship. We could get a spin off. Yes. The real house is jersey shore. Yes, he's actually ready to bullies away. Joe? Yeah. No, no, no sich such as reading a book when he's way. But it's like he doesn't know what it's going to be about yet because he has jersey goes through his life, it it's live his truth. Actually that would be an interesting because I'm sure he'll also banned on what was going on like when he was in his heyday. And that's really like so interesting. Yeah. "It was always I was. I know it's hard to say because I grew up around my parents acting and doing nightclubs, and and Broadway theatre my dad did a lot of Broadway shows. So the acting thing was in the the experience around it was always really interesting, but then around nine nine years old or so I think I started to go to the movies and these movies were so exciting to me. Good the lows eighty four th street. Yeah. It was on when it was the actual old like Lowes theater. Right. Yeah. And more that I do I do and I'm number. I was lows eighty third street. Yeah. Third somehow, they just moved half a block down PM was eighty four. Yes. I recall. That's exactly right. It was lows eighty third street right is the actual building was built like turn of the century, anything and vaudeville theatre, whatever. And then they started splitting it up. And I remember when it was just just single, and then they split it up into two. And then they went, Mike. Four. They started to start to be like you go up to the balcony. And there was a floor right in front of the balcony or so weird. And then they finally just tore it down and built a big building there and made it into whatever it is for some reason my memory of when they reopened it as lose eighty four. This is the first movie ever saw. There was that William cat dinosaur movie baby secret of the lost legend. Remember that still like like it was still like Ray? How're harry? How's it esque eighty five? They were still clinging onto some of those. Yeah. Doesn't hold up. I don't think. Yeah. Probably not. But I love those Ray Harry housing. Watch those titles, please. Yeah. I loved all those movies and watching movies on they had the this movie. At four thirty in the afternoon, right? I think on ABC ABC. And it was just you know, movies in that era. We're just so great. And I plan of the apes, and yeah, we're going to play planet the marathon at Lowe's and watching all of them together and sign adventure obsessed with we're you know, we also share this talked about this in the past Star Trek when you what was that? So that was in repeats by time like you were nine was probably on channel eleven ride your every night. Right. Every night. Yeah. And I would watch it and over and over again, I mean, it was just such a different experience watching television because you actually waited for something to come on besides turn the channel on a non and they're only certain number then when the cable boxes came that was a big thing. Do you find you're still telling these stories to your kids and having them their eyes glaze over or they don't glaze over? They just walk away. I'm not literally become the old man telling these stories, and they make fun of me. They really don't tell another one of those stories on does impressions. I don't know about you. You're in from parents about like when they would listen to the shadow only on the radio, we become that become that. Yeah. Because it was totally different. You wait for I don't know. It's like, you know, just to see wizard of Oz every April or and everyone would also remember even like isos that would like SNL why L felt so like edgy for me as a kid was like I had to stay out way past my bedtime. And I'm like, yeah. Sure. DVR free week. I feel like it's totally changed. But yeah. But go into the movies was really something that I love doing. And I think that that made me want to be a director from the age of nine right? So was how strong was the track thing. Did you go to conventions today convention or to mother took me to a convention, and she had this sort of like referral connection because us an actress, and they you You know? know? I mean, my mother took me to some emerging took me to Bob and Doug McKenzie record signing. Around. I don't know if it was when they did strange brew what they had album the great white north album, and like we stood online at Sam goody records and six avenue for like an hour. I remember it. So well, like got us there. And I have my record and Rick moranis like looked up at my mother's..

The warehouse care that was a great let's throw in Tower Records while we're there to Circuit City empire records. Speaker city. Yes. Vince vaughn? All right. All right trip down memory lane up next police in Maryland are looking for a burglary suspect who broke into a takeout restaurant. The other night surveillance video shows him breaking the glass to get into the restaurant. And then he tries to get into a back room. But he took the brick that he used to smash the first window and tried to use it on this window bulletproof glass, the brick ricocheted off of the glass and hit him in the head knocking him unconscious. He awoke about a half hour later stumbled out of the of the takeout restaurant through the broken glass and police are now on the lookout for the man. They are terming the bad luck bandit. So wait a minute. Wait a minute. The break came back ricochetted knocked them out for thirty minutes. You said it said that he was on the ground attempting to move and stand up for approximately thirty minutes. I mean was easier can get if you're police there is apparently he also picked the brick backup to give it another shot before before. Deciding that that wasn't his best course of action home alone. He's just dropping bricks on space is there video this because dumb criminals are guys one of my favorite rabbit holes that go down. Yes, there is there is silent video. So if you just search, you know criminal brick glass, I'm I'm sure it'll pop up, but yeah, lob the break once then twice bullet bulletproof glass resisted right now and on the third tribe gets him writing that right in the dome member when Reggie Bush got absolutely smokes play the eagles. You wanna ride over together. I'm like, no, I want to just go by myself because it's like you're gearing up before a set. Yeah, you're gearing up. People don't understand. Like I, your routine for a particular set. It can change your perception like I did that show with David Spade, the other night up in Lancaster, but then I closed out the main room, but I came from a different location because they drop me off in like really threw me off writing coming to the comedy store from the west as opposed to the east. I'm always coming in off. Laurel canyon. This time I came in the other way was off your mental preparations, throws it off, but it's good. It's good to like switch things up a little bit. Yeah, and us in to see things from a different set of absolutely speak in the mix it up coming in at number two number two, bad wolves with zombie. Ooh. So. Oh, this is cranberries coming. Too soon. I agree who's bad wolves. Why did they get to do this? Anyone could do cover the Sarah supergroup of like four bands. No one's mother. Both mother of Wolfman Jack wolf pack, an NC state Wolfpack. Hangover. I think this is too soon. It's also just like if if I said to you, what if one of these kinda bands covered zombie, it would just. Yeah, exactly. Like. The original, this Givi EMMY, but this could be Nickelback. Right. It sounds like like creed Nickelback chevelle is surprised. This sound still apparently popular. I guess there's malls in the Iowa. Yeah, this is definitely midwest. Yeah, this is. Yeah, it sounds like Nickelback long dresses already from the outback is somebody from Nickelback in this ban? I know. "I mean, we'll talk about this more as it goes on. I don't need to tell this whole story. It'll it'll come out in full, but it's it's something I've had lots of little recurring moments with and it's played a big factor in my life, but I'll just tell me a little bit of it. I just like. I really did have like sleep problems for years because of it in even when I was a an adult, I was not afraid of it anymore. But I still had this like muscle memory that I had up every twenty minutes to make sure I was saved because my room was in the front of the house, and everybody else is in the back. And I thought like I was never scared of ghosts movies because they didn't believe in it, but a slack could be real. And then that's why I think I really took to the Friday the thirteenth franchises, that it was just kind of silly enough that it was a little disarming but still had enough of that thing that scared me like Halloween did, but how in two years. Yeah, that makes sense. Yeah, because. And also the trappings are different. You're not on a campground, but I also like that it's sort of like if it was. I was going to say slightly Cambier literally quite figuratively. So you saw the Halloween movie first and then you're and then the Friday, thirteenth movies after that. Yeah, but but how lean set me on a path to be so curious about those movies. So petrified it like a real push poll. So I'd go to video store and look at every horror movie as like artwork and that a silent night deadly night. One is pretty vodka. Arm sticking out of the chimney with the Santa holding the, yeah, yeah. And then do you remember fade to black? That's the one where the guys like dressed up as a half Dracula. Yeah, he's like, I've never seen it. So many things are burned in mine, and I don't quite know what they are or territory in which has Jamie Lee Curtis. Well, yeah, yeah. I saw territory and at a sleepover who I I for real started watching fade to black like two weeks ago, and I watched the first five minutes and it's not good, and it just didn't grab me the way I want it. I've watched the trailer a bunch. Yeah, it's just a film fan that gets obsessed each year. Yeah, it's not what the artwork on the on the video cassette. We'll how Sam goody. I would love to know the like ratio of good poster to good movie and also bad poster to. Yeah, great movie. I bet it's very disproportionate. Well, the one that I think of a lot too is Guli because it had a Guli jumping out of the toilet. Right? So you just have to see that once when you're a kid didn't really well, the whole movies that, yeah, and it's not. You don't even want. See, I think there's a shot of a toilet or something, but the the poster is not the same as the right is the movie. Yeah. Which right would you're a kid? You just hope the whole movie is just two hours of Guli jumping in and out of a toilet s. Down. Good time. And then the twist is there's a trip believe inside. That's how it was getting so much air. But so while what was your first Friday? Thirteenth, then that is a good question for me. It's like JAMES BOND. I don't remember which would have been my first. You're always kind of there. Some, let's say, Matt, I saved the question for the podcast listeners to know we're doing a good job of like preserving these conversations so they can happen in real time. We don't know about these fake. No, we're not some phonies who come in and recreate are are off the cuff conversations from before later on here. And again, those podcasts are out there where there preplanned and their conversation their questions. Some of them are scripted, and that's the truth. Every w is script. That's true by the letter, Paul and I have both at some time we've punched up those. Not that they needed it. No, no, no, no. But just sometimes for clarity, right continuity. We were script Subaru. I need to know that where Jason Alexander went to college. Before auditioned for Seinfeld. But yes. So you for you? It's a, it's a stew..

"More time you should just go out and buy something right. You know, because really, if you think about it, Napster, whether it's Napster, kazaa, bearish all these file transfer services. They were the early pilot for the I tune store. Yeah. And what's strange if and I know you were into it somewhat. But Bill I were probably little bit deeper into that. Like Emo punk around here. You couldn't get a lot of these records at like your local Sam goody now. And so NAFTA was in a lot of ways super good for a lot of exposure for these bands. They become popular. It was just untracked level on monetize -able and illegal, but I I had access to. So like just like Bucko nine, you know, those types of fans that, like of course, like blockbuster music or the warehouses and carrying them. But I could go see their show because I had heard of them and I would go southwards by their CDs at the show, we could probably do fifteen shows on the Napster shirk, but that was the one thing. That all the higher ups in the music industry overlooked in the discovery Ellum. Yeah, Risher the discovery element of it is really what, what still drives it today? Not the fact that you can buy it online, but the fact that you can find new stuff and neither one of you got in trouble a my cracks. I know trouble. Did you get a warning notice? I didn't get trouble for the DMCA, but my my high school like study hall teacher yelled at me for. Oh, and it was specifically he knew he or she knew it. Yeah, I got. I got pegged a couple times for seating bandwith from my is facing. Okay, college. I actually, I rent I got even more trouble. I had a great after school job high school senior year where I would just watch the computer lab in the library and like two people would come in every week, and that would be it so great that they're do nothing and the internet was filtered. And I found a way to get past the filter and showed my friend Brian. How did you pass the Ville? Remember how up at. Some of those early filtering mechanisms super there. It was a lot of duct tape and show. I just I just drink to approximate server Reina gal Hassett and so should my friend, he did it. And then a teacher saw him accessing something that was not appropriate for the internet and he's like, oh, how'd you find that? And he said he disowned me out basically onto that..

Yes, so so the first like Ben folds solo, the first fiber, okay. Maybe could be, and and I think because it was Dr dre and Ed lover doing it. I chose three feet high and rising. Oh, so they were judging. They were judging. I think that part of it remember which mart and then there was a live thing all Tuesday, Saturday afternoon where they like the viewer show and and they chose on Saturday. They chose on Saturday, and they chose Jesse, then you immediately got a job as like runner up or that took a while took a while. Yeah. Everyone saying no, like everyone watching was going like, no Dave's the guy should. I mean they did or did you have to wait for Jesse to flame out and then? No, I got hired as a writer almost immediately rate just for like weekend specials, stuff like a part time where you writing about south of gold and know at the time now I was writing probably about will afford or some kind of. And then just because I was around and it was summertime was starting up and they start a lot of new programs in the summertime. It was tested for a couple of things. Did you go to. Spring break or anything like that to God, you not not not yet. Okay. Florida, Cancun. Oh years. It was all. Yeah. Yeah, it was living the life that I was like, God. I wish I, I wish I was doing that in nineteen ninety eight when I was watching MTV living the life that you wish you were doing? No, I would imagine so. So Dave, you're, you're you then to to to make sort of nutshell this you, you then were hired as a host and you and you were there many years, how many years were you? Four and a half. Four and a half years. And you interviewed everybody there a lot of people. Yeah. And and one of the first big ones for me was Michael Stipe, Michael. So this is the interview. How long did it last? I was there for probably a half hour. Okay. They were preparing to play at the Bowery ballroom. They're doing a small show at the barrow ballroom, and and I was losing my fucking mind cause I loved, are you? Yeah. And it's leads me to what I probably should have asked you, I, which is when did you first hear of REM? I heard of them. Is that really a question that you. Okay. So did you? I like it's just the first time kind of things come up. See, I can never tell when people are having a laugh, which is why. With Michael Stipe? No. When was when was the first time I saw their record at a record bar, whoever record what is that? It was like a Sam goody. Oh, no, he's talked about goody. Got it and where the warehouse, but we've never heard of a record bar. I don't remember record barred. All. Midwest, Dan could have been. And I was I was with one of my older brothers who are both in college at the time I was it was probably eighty three murmur time and and they were like, that's that's a psychology reference like aria, because, oh, you know, a random sleeper. Oh, I see. That's interesting. I murmur was no. And then I just started reading about them as a band where you never can tell what the lead singers saying. And I decided I love them because none of my friends were listening to him and I didn't really, I think maybe heard radio for Europe on the radio station.
