"Timing routes passing concepts to either create traffic for the defense or work dies loose and use that to really get the ball out of the quarterback hands quickly and safely yet. That is what they want to do. Really use the passing game is more of an extension of their running game and running ball. Antonio gibson is a solid running back. He's not big but he's quick. He's got really good vision. Really good contacts balanced tough to get on the ground like you have to make a concerted effort to tackle him. Otherwise he is going to squeak through and pick up two or three yards that he really shouldn't and Say jd mackenzie again another quick undersized but quick running back really dangerous receiver out of the backfield and gibson is. They're belco. I mean this guy had over twenty carries in this game. He did fumble the football twice which was devastating in led to the chargers winning this game essentially because washington ended up forcing a turnover late in the game and then on the very first play gibson. Put the ball on the ground Allowed the chargers to maintain their twenty sixteen lead a little scared of antonio gibson from the sense that he he's about two hundred twenty pounds plus he's a fit kit and these difficult to bring down. He's a dual threat. That you can definitely can definitely be used out of the backfield even know jd. Mckissick is their primary receiving back but last week gibson had five targets. Mckissick had one. So they're going to use gibson in that in that role as well as for logan thomas interior maclaurin tire maclaurin can be effectiveness. Shore the intermediate and the e portions of the ball. That he caught from taylor heineke where he was tracking in his head was parallel to the ground was just incredible and i am a little bit concerned about the match. Up of these safeties against logan. Thomas converted quarterback turned himself into one of the better tight ends in the national football league. Incredibly big body type of guy. I think it'd be really really annoying in quick game. Which is something. The giants struggled when they lined up at man coverage last week's the giants continue to want to Attempt to play man coverage than. I think there could be mismatches. Exploited with these running backs against the giants linebackers with logan thomas against the safeties. I think bradberry could matchup against mclaren but mclaren indefinitely best bradberry man coverage because we saw last week bradberry was not the best nine believe bradberry has always been more of his own corner than a man corner although he can play man coverage for terry maclaurin the very very good receiver that cannot be slept on even though it is taylor heineke Ball just one more guy. I want to draw attention to is the rookie out of north carolina. That diani brown he. His guy kinda caught my during the draft process. He's not big six foot one eighty five. He's not fast four five but over his last two seasons at north carolina. He averaged twenty yards a catch. He i think he's good. Off the line of scrimmage has got quick feet solid release and he's good at Working himself open down the field. He didn't do a whole lot against the chargers but they did look at him a fair bit so i think he could be a guy to keep your eye on if they have to look off of terry maclaurin yet. I would take dorie jackson in a match up with the brown but if you start to see the ball go his way. Don't be too surprised if he makes a player too. So i think the the one thing that we can highlight from all the stuff that you guys laid out here that they do have some underrated weapons and it's kinda like you know any any week where we can just assume that the giants defensive game plan is going to be effective but if they're not prepared for some of these secondary options they could potentially gash them if they even if they do an effective job of slowing down terry maclaurin. Any of other guys could be open and available for big gains. We've seen antonio gibson have some big games against the giants last season when he was a rookie and if he to be successful. It's going to be partially depending on if the actually holds onto the football and like what he did in week one. But you mentioned. Also nick the the importance of giving logan thomas the ineffectiveness of covering tight ends in week. One was very apparent and that is something that needs to be corrected on a short week. They're going to need to be prepared to go against logan. Thomas who we know is a fantastic athlete and for whatever reason athletic tight ends tend to be a struggling issue for this giant secondary. Last bit offensively before we transition to the defense this office of line. I think is. It's tough to really figure out. How consistent that. They are because a chase their center very strong so far. He's looked really good. Since taking over that spot he was one of the guys that was tied for pass. Rush win rate in week one with nick gates and some other notable names. But then you've got former john eric flowers. You've got charles leno. they drafted sam cosmi. I feel like overall. This group has some quality players but they're fairly inconsistent. This might be a good week for the defensive line to really establish the line of scrimmage and maybe bottle up the run game because they have some mismatches on that offense and defensive line. That's what i'm hoping happens to be honest because leonard. Like if you watch the game against the broncos extra lawrence was being held a solid amount. And i'm not complaining about. They're not being called holding happens. But i saw lawrence pushing the pocket and flushing teddy bridgewater out. Bridgewater was good on the run. Extemporised clays and leonard williams. I mean he. He was tallied for six pressures. It didn't jump off the screen..

"Well one was legitimate one. I didn't think it was a very good call. But whatever i'm in washington was on the wrong side of missed facemask against antonio gibson which was in a grievous miss The other thing that came out of the game per pro football focus or nexgen. I forget which one it was. My son's sent me this Is that the offensive line had a disastrous day which we all know that the pass protection was really bad and that sam cosmi in particular really struggled and i wanted to make this particular point and i think it's a bit of a reach so i'll concede that going in but sam caused me was targeted by this Team's front office and won coach in particular scott turner who really liked 'cause me he really liked elijah more the receivers from old miss that went to the jets early in the second round. He really liked the army brown. He really likes sam cosmi before the draft before the second day of the draft. I said 'cause me and brown. Elijah more are three players that washington would love to get one of those. They got two of them. They got causing me end. Yami brown Cosmi played incredibly well all summer long in practice training camp and he won the right tackle job. You know they had. They had a rookie in the lineup the other day because of how well he held up in practice against the likes of chase young and monteray sweat now again. That's practice. i understand but if caused me wasn't consistently doing pretty well against the likes of sweat and chase young. He may not have been in the starting lineup on sunday while he was in the starting lineup on sunday and he faced joey bosa. That is a top tier elite defensive. End right now. Pass rusher outside linebacker in a three four when they're in in thirty four. That's what an elite pass rusher. Looks like i'm not saying that chase young and montanez. Sweat aren't going to be joey bosa. Nick bosa t. j. watt chandler. Jones jones had five sacks t. J. watt had two on sunday. And i'm also acknowledging i understand the sax stat is can be a little bit more misleading than it has been in recent years because of how many teams are getting the ball out quickly but tj watch still had two sacks on sunday and chandler. Jones had five. Joey bosa was wreaking havoc by himself all day sunday. I think chase young is going to be that kind of player. I am predicting chase. Young will eventually be that kind of player and i think montas sweat can be. That player was a huge mont de sweat fan in college at mississippi state and i thought he had a great year last year. A big step forward year last year. But they're not there yet. That's the point. They're not there yet. They did not buy good. Finally i mean i think the crowding of chase young has just been too premature. I think he's going to eventually get there though. Tom i do i mean i in less would be. It would be shocking. If he doesn't it would. I be shocked if he doesn't but you know he hasn't done it yet. No but he. He was a much better player year than the statistics said. It's why he was the defensive rookie of the year. There was an acknowledgement that he was truly a difference maker any was for this team but he was not a difference maker on sunday and he was not a difference maker in the playoff game against tampa bay. He was more often than not a difference maker last year. The defense as a whole had their best days against the worst offensive teams that they faced and they're not facing those teams this year. At least not as of now so the defense to me it was. It was a big. There's a red flag on the defense coming out of sunday. I want to see a dominant performance on thursday night. You saquon barkley did not look like himself sunday. He's clearly not ready They could not run denver's defense in washington's defense who've been compared to one another the two teams have been compared to one another teams with good supporting casts outstanding potential defensively well-coached defensively but quarterback is an issue right while denver. Completely shut down the giants on sunday. They shut down sake one barkley. The giants couldn't run the football. They struggled to move the football. The giants were you know they. They had a key turnover another daniel jones key turnover. He doesn't seem to turn it over against washington but he had a big fumble in this game. And the broncos bloom out. I didn't see the game. Mac and act like i watched the game. I'm talking about what i've read about the game i'm gonna i'm gonna watch the game before thursday's show to have a little bit more on the giants On nfl game pass but they better step it up thursday night. They needed one effing. Stop on that final drive and third sixteen and couldn't get anywhere near impacting the play. So yeah you're right about chase young and the rest of them most of them on sunday now he had a couple of good rushes He got held once and he and an unlike the tampa game he was game planned for sunday. They were chipping him. They doubled him at times. They realized what he could do. But tj watts getting doubled to and i guarantee you chandler jones and some of these other guys are getting doubled in chip times too so at some point. That can't be the reason you don't end up with double digit sacks because your game plan for the entire year that can't be the reason the real great ones they overcome that the tj watch the jj watt. The nick boasts the joey bosa. When he's healthy. They overcome all that so he's got. He's got to play better than he's played in his last two games for this team at the same time he was. He was a beast at times last year. He was against. Nick mullins in some of the other quarterbacks that they face that weren't so good but nut nobody in on their defense in the last two games has reminded anybody of t. J. watt of aaron. Donald of myles garrett You know nobody's approached that level. And i hope that they will soon you know. But he's only in his second year but he's you know and i think he'll eventually got there. Okay what else do you have on the game. Now nothing you say. He's only in the second year But he's treated like royalty and he hasn't done anything. Well i mean myles garrett in his first year in cleveland had seven sacks okay four three defensive end seven sacks in year two it was thirteen and a half then ten then And by the way then then the they're the injuries and then the suspension remember the suspension at the end of twenty nineteen So he's been double digit sacks the last three years as the same kind of player. I think people would equate chase young. The same kind of upside potential disruptive defensive end kind of a player He's gone thirteen and a half ten..

"I'm i think. I want i want sean slater to keep chase young from any sacks That's what i want. That's what i'm projecting. I sat free game forgiven. No sex given up from sean slater because as of right now. Brian balogh is not guaranteed. Gonna start you storm norton. Strike for him if yeah. We don't really already come out and talk about that yet. But yeah the watch. The blog is dealing with Hit flexor issue. And we're not sure if he's necessarily going to make it to week one eight did say he looked good over the weekend He's just. It's all the neither full pads today. Yeah so. I think are now today. They didn't have bad. It's opulent hispanic. Yeah it's optimistic but something to keep an eye on and we've talked about it before like we just gotta be. I don't know the blog thing. I'm just nervous about because he doesn't ever seem to be truly healthy. Yes later is your call. You think he's going to have a big game. I think he's done his acts allowed. No sex from slater. We think we'll dog. I'm going to say i'm gonna go with this cane. Oh i think he's gonna make all his kicks. I think he's going to come out and the battle. That could be a huge. Yeah so my my. My money's on biscayne. Oh having a great game. i'm calling cuyler role. I think he gonna have an i. Don't know if that's under the radar. Because he had a great preseason and we saw him show up a lot coaches talked big about him. But i think our factory was going to have a big game. We looked at the. We'll we'll kind of look at washington the team. We're gonna play here now. Run of the guys that we we did a deep dive on going into the draft. Was sam cosmi at a texas around the tackle We all kinda hope that. Maybe he'd be. If we don't go tackle first-round he'd be the second round guy that we might go after he went to washington. He's they're starting right tackle. I think that joey everyone talks about the the slater versus young macha. Bosa verses caused me. That could be some serious damage going down there. Starting right tackle. You put joey bosa on a second round pick at texas that there were obviously some some negatives that's why he didn't go in the i. I think that could be a big big position battle that we could take advantage of and even that much more so counterfactual as well. I think he could take advantage of that. That that new rookie right tackle. Go go out and right away Yeah it's interesting like the everything people talking about. It's like this the tidbit when you talk about this game is like they have the best front defensive front in all of football like let's everyone just like let's see because i think our defensive front is going to be pretty stout and pretty strong too so i think it's going to be more than just that that kind of story line. People are pitching yet. Take this shamelessly positive. Take i think this is what it is. Basically every team we played last year had the best front and best defensive front football because of our offensive line like nothing new for herbert this year even within the offensive line it might even be easier than when we played one of the lesser defense affronts because our offensive line was like toilet paper and it just let people go through three play. We're talking one plus paper. Yeah we're talking. And it was the chiefs dollar store very. I think that's the shamelessly positive take is. Hey ara improved offensive line. I know that they have a great front. Like there's there's no arguing. And i will be something to watch for sure But the pressure like being under pressure is not something new to justin herbert right. Yeah right. I think he'll be able to handle it for sure. And we'll see if fitzpatrick can handle some bowie. fact role. it'll be. Yeah it'll be a fun game to watch regardless There you go all right. Well thank you craig For showing back up on the craig experience and bringing in thomas petty. Oh good to meet you. Tom pay. We've not met yet. The pleasure pleasure right now folks. It's time to go onto our final segment. Ask both fam- time to put your money. William mouthy jam his excite me hungry editor boy. All right we start asked bolt fam- with an old favorite of ours coach. Lago lago who asked the question bold grid so like your man. I was just thinking. Yeah hiccup how the bolt his three man. Who's the biggest flop. You can remember mine and no man. Leave isn't an acceptable answer man. How's about the steroid himself. David boston man. So who still excited to have that mod in boltzmann damage man all muskie's mon- only one good season mon- war good months k love you buy so sorry to all jamaicans that Podcast that was but okay. So the biggest flop. Not named ryan leaf And maybe not named david boston unless you want to. Steal coach law goes minds. Kind of more recent and it sucks. Because i think he is a great player and he. He's on another team right. Now is jason barrett Was he was supposed to be a stud for us and just couldn't get off and get healthy. Man was a bummer. Because he had a couple of games where he was just shut people down pro bowl season. he'd one season. Yeah and then he just never got back on the field again in my opinions. It makes it a bus. It's a dingo if i pick. That doesn't get resigned. Could classify is boston. Yeah and he. He was a first round pick. Yeah that's a big bus from. It's a big relief. Leaving his might be the nfl probably that he owns up to it for sure My my biggest bust is larry english. I don't remember he was. He was a first round. Pick man he was. He was pick number sixteen in the draft. We picked them out of and we picked him this is. Aj was just infatuated with small schools. There is something about like. Oh no i'm not gonna. I'm not gonna draft guy from one of the best schools in the country. I'm gonna drive the pass rusher from northern illinois in the first round everyone was like it was like drafting tree. Pipkins in the what are you what are you doing. I understand if you like him. But i think we could have gotten waiter and he just never panned out. We didn't resign and yet he went to the buccaneers after us at a kind of a short career Just didn't do anything as a first round pick. I think that's where bus hap- like real bust happened in the first ours right. I think larry english was up there. Yeah boy. It's hard for me to pick a bus. That's not named ryan leave to me. I would say as a personal bust is melvin gordon. I feel like that.

"Where you left off you know guys. A high dynamic energy type player. Did a lot of good things made some good decisions And again i just. I like who. He is as a football player for us right now. That was ron rivera. Talking about taylor heineke. It did look like he picked up where he left off. By the way heineke added muscle. He talked about that after the game. Obviously he wants to get himself into a position where he doesn't get injured when he plays We'll see him a lot next week against cincinnati. Hopefully we see more of fitzpatrick but I'm sure we'll see some stephen montas to But taylor heinecke was pretty good. And that was ron rivera. Talking about him by the way i put out a twitter poll last night after the game. I said who was the best quarterback in the game You can find that. Poll at kevin sheehan. Dc on twitter forty four point eight percent said fitzpatrick twenty nine point six percents at heineke twenty point six percent said mack jones and five point one percent said stephen montas i thought mack jones looked the part last night man he processes quickly which you can tell and the ball gets out quickly I would be surprised if mack jones isn't the starter pretty early in the season in new england okay Let's get to ron rivera on dustin hopkins. It wasn't long. But here's what he said when he was asked. Are you concerned. No there is not a concern. I think it's disappointing. You know but At the end of the day we have a new operation. That's got to continue to get worked out and we've got two more tumor more. Preseason games get cracked look bottom line when it comes to hopkins the things that i've said before apply And they signed him to a one year two point three five million dollar deal you know there would be about a one point nine million dollar dead cap hit if they got rid of him so i don't think they're getting rid of him. I think he's your kicker. I'd love to see competition brought in if he struggles anymore in these next two preseason games. I think you'll have to bring somebody in. I mean the last thing you want is a kicker going into the regular season with the yips. You know You don't want aroha situation from ted lasso. Although he got some help from the sports psychologist. Maybe that's what i dustin hopkins needs But ron rivera is not concerned. Now that could be the public standing by my kicker. We're not gonna act concern but in the meantime we're going to bring somebody in. We're going to read about it if they do. I bet he doesn't. I bet he doesn't bring anybody in this. Was ron rivera. Talking about sam cosmi's first game and then he works in a lot of the other young players as well really like what we got from. Sam sam needs to play and that's the truth of the matter and so does jalen So does ben juiced. i mean. that's why those guys played extended into the second quarter Very pleased with what we saw from those guys Thought john base got his opportunity. I thought he did a nice job. and did some really good things as it sam race. I mean there was a lot of positives these that we're gonna grow and get better with. They love me. I'm telling you they love causing me. They love his His athleticism they love his smarts. And they think he's going to be an outstanding tackle in the nfl And i thought in his first game preseason game they put him out there for a lot of snaps and i think he graded. I would bet you. He graded pretty high for his first game. What about james davis their first round pick nine number nineteen overall. I thought he looked a little indecisive. At times they also appeared to be playing a a lot of different positions with their linebackers last night. This was ron rivera. On jamie davis. Well just the feeling the experience of getting out there on the football field more so than anything else. Yeah we put them in a couple of leadership roles when we in our base defense early on rotating them out early and had them with the second subgroup and you know we try to stress them We had employees few extra plays especially in the second quarter and thought he handled it very. Well don't panic you know. Be concerned about the hopkins thing. I get that. Please do not come to any sort of meaningful conclusion on james davis after a preseason game They like what they've been singing practice. We'll get to more preseason games. And then he's gonna have to be ready. This is one of those positions where it's not like they have overwhelming depth You could always start bostick at middle linebacker you could bring in khaliq cousin To play one of those outside linebacker positions you saw a lot of mixing and matching of backers. I like hudson. Most of you know that part of that is because i know they like him as well and i saw a guy with a relentless motor last night. One of the quotes from Jack del rio during the tv broadcast was he just wanted to see the guys that give effort. They go down. They get right back up. There's an energy level there's motor this is what they're looking for. These weren't the things that gruden was always looking for. You know or any of their defensive coordinators were looking for I liked hudson a lot But we've got to give. Jane davis thing plenty of time..

"Showed me something. They haven't had that you know we've talked about the roster the roster's better than it's been a long time whenever the year is if you want to go back to two thousand five or two thousand or nineteen ninety one. Whatever it is the roster is as complete or It has the fewest number of holes. That it's had in a long long time and they added skill position players and some of the skill position players already had You know started to prove themselves. And we'll be better with a good quarterback so you know on the list of things that i liked. I really liked the playmakers. The skill position players on offense last night in terms of just evaluating the player and the way. They played most all the quarterbacks most of the running backs most of the tight ends in most of the receivers played well. And i would've evaluated them pretty highly last night and it's encouraging to see some guys who can really make some place and i think it's really encouraging to see fitzpatrick and logan. Thomas connect on a back shoulder throw. It looked like they had done it for years together. And to see maclaurin come underneath on that big throw from fitzpatrick to see fitzpatrick work. His way across progression in hit atom humphries for a third down conversion. He only missed one thrown. It was to humphries. Also on the list of things that i liked. I thought sam cosmi in his first game at right tackle. I thought he showed pretty well. And you'll hear what ron rivera said about him in some of the other young players but i thought cosmi who played i think every snap in the first half They loved him. I i i told you guys before the draft there were a few players That i told you they. The offensive staff really likes cosmi and brown. Were two of them. The receiver out of ole miss was another one and there was another player that i can't remember right now and they got caused me and diani brown when they drafted causing me because i had heard that they were really high on them. I was thinking left tackle at the time they were. They were clearly thinking right tackle. He's you're starting right. Tackle right now right. I don't think it's going to be anybody. But him. I mean is it gonna be david sharp. Who's on cove is going to be cornelius. Lucas who's miss some time. No i think we saw what they believe. They're starting offensive. Line is going to be. You know 'cause me sheriff. Roue schweitzer and leno We saw flowers in there A lot last night We saw city charles. Take some snaps at left tackle. But i thought causing me was really impressive. He's on the list of things that i liked. I thought there punt returning situation which i talked about yesterday really was impressive. You can make a lot of big returns in preseason games and we saw guy andre carter who decisively and comfortably caught the ball and then was decisive in his decision making to get the ball upfield he had to returns both of nineteen yard returns for thirty eight yards in an average of nineteen yards per punt return. That's pretty damn good. Dax milne had a nineteen yard punt return. He looked good. Stevenson's junior did not do well on his one punt return but stevenson's junior had a really good catch in the game as a receiver so the punt return thing at least on night one in the preseason from a player evaluation standpoint gives you something to be. You know marginally optimistic about they need something from the return game. The punt return game Lastly chase young So thank god. They didn't go and win that giant game in twenty nineteen right. Can you imagine they had a really good chance to win that game at the end of that year if they won that giant game which they were desperately trying to do in twenty nineteen chase young would be a new york giant not a washington. Football team player. They lost that game in overtime. Thank god daniel. Jones lead and overtime drive right. It was the only drive. I think it was like you know one drive. I don't think washington never touch the ball. And they threw a touchdown pass and they won the game. That was like the best possible. Scenario that day you know. Haskins played well The mclaren was outstanding. D you know it was a shootout game but they lost it you know. They also had a chance. Remember to philadelphia towards the end of that year two and they lost that game. Thankfully my god. You got a transcendent once in a decade type of talent in chase young and i thought one of the more interesting parts of last night was that his move on the sac which was not a it was an incomplete pass and by the way i think that's i'm correctly called i thought cam newton's arm was going forward and i thought that was an incomplete pass. First of all he's not going to be solo blocked In in most games. I mean unless you really have tackles like tampa did last year and tampa really handled him in that playoff game. But if you don't have a strong tackle he's going to get shipped if not double. They're gonna game plan for him. He's a guy that finally defensively they've got a guide. You have to game plan for. But i thought the use of his hands the angle that he got his body in and just the quick twitch edge speed but the way he used his hands to create that lane and as quickly as he got to cam newton a big dude that he hit hard and brought down and forced to lose the football again. His arm was moving forward in an incomplete. Pass it's hard not to be optimistic. Debt with sweat and with young and with allen and with pain and with and nitis that they're not gonna be a really difficult front four deal with weaken and week out so young second year full off season young was hurt for part of last year You know if they allow themselves To play to play within that scheme which is a good one with rivera. Always has been Sweat and or young is going to have a big year and maybe it's a sweat because of his talent but also because so much focuses on young Or maybe it's both of them. I don't know but that That was a pretty jarring first series. Pass rush hit from chase young as far as doron pain. I'm not as worked up as many of you are on him. Not falling on the ball. The ball was bouncing up. A little bit you know. He should have grabbed. Cleanly but defensive tackles. Don't grab anything cleanly in by the way they don't fall on fumbles and protect the ball very cleanly and consistently either. I wanna see an aggressive defense. That tries to score did last year. It had to last year. You had the sweat touchdown in the dallas game on thanksgiving. You had to chase young score against the niners. I wanna see a playmaking defense for the first time in a long long time. And i think they've got the capability of doing that. Obviously there are certain situations and most of you would say it's every situation where you just try to fall on the ball but at the ball's bouncing around in bounces up waist high. I wanna see him. Try to make a play with it. that is the list of things that i liked The things that i didn't like will we start with the obvious dustin hopkins. It's amazing to me that doesn't hopkins is entering his seventh season here. I've mentioned this many times. I'll do it again to beat the the dead horse Over and over again. If you watch hopkins kick up close and i have in ashburn. There is no doubt in my mind. Why any coach. Any special teams coach. Any bystander is just wowed by dustin hopkins. The ball explodes off his foot. It does and it gets up quickly. A does everything that a special teams coach once. He's got the strong leg. He gets immed- elevation so there's no chance of being blocked. But he's a very inconsistent kicker and he has been and that's a problem and he's missed so many big kicks twenty sixteen season is still on the bothers me the most partly because i understand they played poorly on january first and my guy cousins played a bad game in a game against a team that had nothing to play for and they lost to the giants and didn't go to the playoffs. Instead of being nine six and one with back to back playoff years they finished eight seven and one and didn't make the postseason. The defense was terrible in that game on january. First as well. But i you know..

"A shitty division. But i can say this. There is benetton of love for washington from pros. There was as you alluded to at the top. Early in the offseason. When numbers were fresh you could get plus three seventy five on washington to win the division. It's mostly to to one now. There is plus one eighty five. The total got smacked over as well. There was some seven and a half at like one or two spots mostly eight. But now we're looking at like eight point seven with juice it definitely changes the dynamic. I mean when you talk about all the love that washington has has seen in the betting market. You think there's buyback as you get closer to the season kickoff. I'm not sure. I think that might depend on a couple of the other teams within that division. You know. let's see what happens with back. Let's see what happens with saquon but the one thing is clear. There's a lot of average teams in this division and the one team with something elite is washington and again the quarterback play was so bad last year. That ryan fitzpatrick just can be below average. And it's a upgrade and you look at some of the young guys like they're only going one direction like terry mclaren's only getting better antonio gibson's only getting better curtis samuel familiar with the system so he can come in day. One and adapt to scott turner's mindset and philosophy offensively antonio golden gandhi is like gandhi golden. He's a guy that has been in the system that scott turner lops so just seems like there's a lot of progression. The offensive line did lose. morgan moses. You alluded to. But what i will say. Is i think they're depth. Might have improved and trade for an eric flowers. You go and get leno from chicago via free agency. You took sam cosmi in the second round from texas. So i i think morgan moses you probably downgrade at one position there but you've built depth along the offensive line. I don't know if that position group is able to do what they did lash season. I think that was a little bit of an anomaly. Based on talent and prior production where they finished like six last year is the most efficient offensive line into that regrets is a little bit. But i still think it's an above average unit with solid up this year. As it pertains you talking about antonio gibson playing through injury. Let it be known here. That if i get turf toe i will go and probably miss two to three weeks even as a podcast or so. He's got a little bit more toughness at that position. Slightly more versatility as it pertains the game breaking ability. But there's no doubt washington will be one of the more fascinating teams to keep tabs on how they're priced on a week out basis and we're going to get a pretty good good indication at least early on when they kick the season off against the los angeles chargers. Exactly what we may expect from the washin football game team as they said as a one and a half point. Underdog for that season opener against this. Starlets of the west coast. Four more teams pain officially in the bank. So that's twenty five percent of the national football league if my math is correct three complete divisions to go not quite sure which direction will go in. If it's the north of it's the south it will definitely not be the west because we know we you love to save the best for last and being the west coast guy that you are the nfc and typically is how we bring up the rear but anything else you wanted to kind of put a bow on as far as it pertains to the east and anything. We made a mess up the four team so far. No i think we did a pretty good job covering this division. We did it a little differently for some teams but we just kind of want to give the best information we as it pertains to you know the betting element in what plays the largest factors. And what we're going to see this offseason and so it may be digging into metrics. That may be more informational. I just wanna give. What i think has the most value to handicapping the season had. Hey that's all folks are looking for. It's not about determining which teams are going to be good but which teams are going to be bad more in terms of how these teams are being priced in the betting market. Because if you're going to tell me that. The kansas city chiefs are the best team in the nfl. That's not exactly a watershed moment knowing what their win. Total looks like and how they're priced on a week in week out basis. That's what differentiates all the contents. You'll get here. Throughout the course of the preseason and the regular season with the bet the board podcast and pain as is tradition. The final order of business. And we know you've warned us that there may not be investable opportunities on a bevy of thirteen. Preseason podcasts that we're putting together across pro and college football. I do have to ask. Is there an avenue. We should go down in terms of trying to further. Enhance our preseason portfolio. Not only is it going to be difficult to have thirteen bets. It's also difficult with some of the wind. Total action because i don't like to go down this path and i do think obviously there's gonna be no issues with a season being completed. What now that we do have other variants of what's going on with the flu or cova. There's other variants of that. And well guys are vaccinated the policies of loosened up. So it's very possible that you know things in terms of players missing time might actually be enhanced the sheer will say this kind of the vibe. I'm i'm getting right now. Time will tell. We have a month before the season to gauge. Those things a little bit better. But i don't want to be involved in too. Many win. totals especially ones Going over unless there's extreme value in we can overcome. Maybe a guy being out. But i will say this. I think we are moving ahead with the saints under this season at nine. I just look at this team and they just lost so much we know they were all in the last few years with drew brees and it's caused some salary cap issues. And so you know you see guys like trae hendrix leave and janoris jenkins leave and alexander and malcolm brown jared cook and emmanuel sanders and michael. Thomas gonna miss the early part of the season. And he's feuding with the organization again. Do they move him if they start slow this he never take another snap for coming on. It'll be interesting to see the offensive. Line's still very good. You have alvin kamara..

"Office again before we get to a major league deep dive on the first official depth chart of the season. I did want to thank those of you. Who have told me for a while. Now if you're looking for a new show watch ted lasso. I watched the first four episodes of season one last night. And i absolutely love it Cowboy clay steve Rob patty there several of you That have reached out to me over the last. I don't know several months when we've talked television shows and you've said you guys are gonna love this show. I watched the first four episodes last night. And i can't wait to get to the rest of it. I've heard it gets better and better also to those of you who may be scratching themselves. Like i have been for the last three or four days with little bug bites. These are oak mites. That are out there. I don't know how many people are familiar with the oak. Might bites gist Google it there have been stories written in all sorts of of newspaper headlines. Dc residents terrorized by invisible flesh. Eating might Yeah this is This is a real thing. And i've been scratching some bug bites on my arms and legs for the last three or four nights. At first i thought they might be bedbugs from this furnished rental that we've had to move into for a time being until our new house is ready to be moved into But apparently what they are is they have. Come to feed on cicadas eggs. That were left by the cicadas last. Not last month but now two months ago which by the way was sort of an overrated event. I think the noise wasn't bothersome. I didn't have to go with an umbrella outside to keep them off my face and body. That never happened. But these mites are a real deal so if you're scratching yourself and you can't figure out why and you've got little red bug bites on your arms especially that's what it is. These are oak mites They're apparently in oak trees. Feeding off the cicadas eggs left. Remember cicadas basically or the brood. X cicadas right. Every seventeen years they come out they fly around they bang another kedah. They lay their eggs and they die. And then you know seventeen years later. The new ones hatch. Well apparently these mites love these eggs and when the wind blows a little bit and you're near oak tree they're landing on bodies and they're biting you. You can't see them. Apparently they are microscopic in size like they are a fraction of like the size of a pinhead but they're also apparently not dangerous at all but anyway That's all i got on that The depth chart is out. Look i i'm not gonna make fun of the people that do the depth chart some not talking about the teams. I'm talking about the people who you know. Update their fifty three man roster projection dock us to give me a hard time. He used to say when you're fifty three man roster coming out and i said i don't do that i think i did it for maybe like two or three years But then i realized it's just not for me anyway I don't wanna completely sort of you know. Be condescending or diminish you know the results of it washington put it out. Look somebody pays attention to this thing. I don't know if it's old joe in the mail room that puts it together but somebody puts together has a general idea of what the depth chart actually is. You know it's not like teams are sitting there going. Oh let's put together a depth chart. That's really misleading. So the patriots. On thursday night plan for david sharp at right tackle instead of sam cosmi. They don't care about that. At this point they're supposed to put out honest effort depth charts before the first preseason game and you know for me. I a lot can change obviously between now in the opener but they're instructive especially in those areas. Where you think there's a lot of competition in you know it also sort of matches up with what a lot of the beat you guys have been seeing at practice. So the two areas that were You know for me interesting to at least look at. I wanted to look at wide receiver. And i wanted to look at offensive line. I wanted to see you know what what they had lined up starter. Because i'm surprised that eric flowers isn't the starting left guard i thought when they acquired eric flowers they acquired him to be the starting left guard. West schweitzer was the starting left guard last year. And he's number one in the depth chart and he has been the guy. That's gotten the most reps with the first team. So eric flowers looks like a depth guy. He's number two behind schweitzer on the depth chart. They've got leno at left tackle. They've got obviously rue des center in sheriff at right guard and i was interested to see who you know. The number one right tackle. Was it sam cosmi at wide receiver. I wanted to see what they had. Well they have what you would expect. Even though one of these guys is available right now but terry maclaurin of course Curtis samuel who hasn't practiced yet and adam humphreys were the top three receivers and then behind them. Diani brown behind terry at the x. And then you had. Cam simms behind curtis samuels and steven sims junior behind adam humphreys so that would give you an idea it at least as far as you can believe this that those are the six guys right now. The sims juniors. Battling it out with the andre carter to be punt returner and whoever wins that punt returner job. I think he's going to be the sixth receiver. I guess they could keep seven but more likely than not six which means a guy like antonio gandhi golden guide at a lot of people loved last. Summer is in more likely than not trouble. Isaiah right kelvin. Hormann from nc state coming off. His injury appears to be in trouble. He's the fourth receiver On one of the receiver spots So anyway Yeah that's it You know jamie davis is pencilled and is the starting middle linebacker. The more i've talked to various people. Think we're gonna see a lot of different defensive alignments you know their basis for three but therein nikola lot. They play a buffalo nikola which at times can be a linebacker a lot of times. They have just two linebackers on the field and none of them. Were playing that middle linebacker spot and you're going to see a lot of in year two with a full off season. A lot of creativity defensively this year especially given. They've got a lot of players that they feel comfortable. Putting on the field. With by the way is ron rivera. You know Always talks about sort of positional flexibility. That's important for him. you know. That's why a guy like cornelius. Lucas is valuable to them. Maybe guy like city charles as well a guy that complain multiple positions. They want that positional flexibility. They wanna be able to you. Know endure injuries. in a in a way in which it allows them To plug and play with is they're used to playing various spots and are capable of playing those spots by the way on that depth chart Danny johnson was the number one kick returner. And even though stevenson's junior was ahead of the andre carter at wide receiver. Carter was ahead of sims junior as the punt returner. So they're a taylor heineke for those. That were interested did Come up yesterday and practice hobbling a little bit but rivera said he would be okay..

"He's he's a very good player. So that one okay. Gave jackson is not what he was early in his career. But i still think solid um so. I think they're downgrading both those positions Alex leatherwood has a chance to be a really good player. But i think it's gonna take some time for him especially as a pass protector. He's the first round right. Tackle very talented guy. But he's definitely a better run blocker than past protector and denzel good is definitely a better run blocker than pass protector. And he's taken over forgave jackson. And then they have andre james Or nick martin. Probably andre james. Both of them downgrade from rodney hudson. So they got worse you know. Probably a three positions They're left side is still rock. Solid in cole. Miller and richie incognito mean incognito thirty eight years old so the chances of him playing twelve or more games probably not great but when he's on the field who's very good still so there's just a lot of uncertainty here You know. I just think that they they definitely at least initially are gonna be You know one of the bottom. Ten units in the league andre. james dude hasn't even played. That has his career start. It seems like it seems like they're putting a lot of their eggs and tom cables basket to coach. These guys up. What do you think of that strategy. Well you know if he asked me what he was seattle's offensive line coach. We'd probably have a different conversation now. It's like you know you look at what he did with cole miller and guiding him along his development. I think that's a notch under his belt for sure. I mean i don't want to discredit him. There i wanna give him credit for that because colt miller's guy who's very raw coming out of ucla years just you know tested out of this world and had all the the measurable and everything. And now he's gotten his revamped his body. He stronger better with his technique. Whatever they did with colt miller was very impressive Whoever deserves that credit in the building. Tom cable should get some of it. So that to me encourages me. Most most of all with alex leatherwood kind of similar dynamic. I think Leatherwood is further along than colt. Miller was in some aspects but he does need some work So you know what his ability to to get a lot out of andre james and and denzel good i just i think denzel good is what he is. He's just a mauling. Big enormous human being is a steamroller type of guy. If you ask him to move laterally in you know deal with speed rushers is gonna be. It's not gonna be good. So i don't know how much he can really do for him. I'm very curious to see what he does. Andre james and how his development goes because you know having rodney hudson there. I think there's probably a pretty good chance. That hudson mast issues there or deficiencies cable. You know teaching ability or or lack thereof if there is. I don't know the intricate details of it but hudson is the type of center who is a force multiplier. He's a guy who's gonna make the guys next to him. Better is like brilliant you know. He's just he's just one of those guys who can really captain the line and hide a lot of you know of deficiencies. So it's gonna be really interesting to see them without without rodney hudson in. They're getting into the right protection at the right time. You know in all those kind of like intricate things Centers do So yeah. I'm i'm really concerned about that position. Probably more than anything. I want. get to listener questions. But i want to quickly go through overrated underrated because overrated unit. You have the washington football team at twenty fifth. I've seen some people say they really like this washington. Footba team offense mind. I was a little bit surprised. They didn't go offensive tackle in round one that go to the linebacker. Jimmy davis betting round two. They do take. Sam cosmi wondering what you think about watching football team and anybody else. You think it's over it because it seems like you think washington for team might be a little bit overrated. Yeah i'm not too sure what the consensus is on on them with other people I actually bumped up to twenty three though. I flip flop them in oakland or las vegas. So they're gonna be twenty three for the article But still that might be lower than than than others. I'm not sure and the reason for their ranking though for me it starts at the tackle position. Charles leno i think is a solid player and he's been reliable when he was in chicago and everything but certain certain pass rushers can give him a lot of trouble. Like power rushers And that concerns me It always has impact protection He's he's an undersized guy with good length and he he he's very aggressive but there's a lot of there's a lot of variance in his performance especially against the league competition. So that's why he's just a solid player and not much more than that. I think is more kind of like a band-aid there You know and then. Sam cosmi. Is mike comparison for him. Cole miller and my scouting report very similar coming out. You know tested out of this world has all the physical measurable and all that stuff. But i think has quite a quite a long way to go technique wise as a pass. Protector pass protector in particular. That worries me a little bit So i think there's going to be you know at least initially you know kind of a rocky road start for him. I think interior could be pretty good Brandon sheriff obviously Excellent player And i i like the competition that they have going left guard with eric. Flowers in west. Schweitzer who i think is an underrated player and i really liked their offensive line coach to. It's just for me. What brought him down as the tackle situation And i think that they're probably set up to be a better run blocking team the past blocking team at least initially until we get to see them together. Yeah any other overrated units wanna mention I think i'm a little bit down on the cardinals compared to some other people even though they got rodney hudson. You know that that was a huge addition. I i do think rodney hudson's on the tail end of his career. He's outside of his prime especially physically. I mean mentally..

"Even though there wasn't a training camp all we kept hearing was kevin pierre louis. Kpl how many times do we hear kpl's name before a game was ever played. There was something about this dude when they started to practice that they loved. We saw you know him play well at times but saw him a big part of the team last year. So i think a lot of that stuff you know is important. So when you hear these interviews whether it's an hour format or gp doing it on nbc. Sports or ben doing it. You know as part of a a zoom call with with all the beat people. I think that there's stuff that you can take out of that. I mean last year that kp l. We kept hearing kpl's name boy. They love themselves. Some kevin pierre louis last year and by the way they also really liked logan thomas. We were hearing that name a lot early on so those are some of the things To focus on. I asked ron rivera about some of those players. I think he really likes cameron curl I think that he is very excited to see the competition at the wide receiver position. I think they feel look one of the things. Tommy you can say about this team you can say they really did a good job in the off season at addressing their perceived weaknesses or they're real weaknesses not enough playmakers on offense. They went out and got some not enough offensive lineman or depth. They went out and got some no good linebacker play. They went out and drafted one. Need another corner and another. Db they address that so hopefully they made the right choices with these players but they They recognized what they needed they. And that's what's gonna be fun to see. What diani brand looks. Curtis samuel right. They did do that. I mean had to check with it. They managed to Check everything off. The question is the judging of the talent right. Because this time of year. And i i love when i run into somebody in there like so. How great is jane. Davis gonna be. Well i don't have any idea. I mean he was picked in the first round and obviously they like him and they have a need and the good thing about this particular player is he fills a need. So you're going to know a lot about james and davis and what they think of early because if he's not out there a lot well it's a big disappointment because there was a need for him if he is out there lot part of it could be need but part of it could be because they really like them and then we'll judge them based on the games he place you know but it's really hard with young players to really know like it's not out of the realm that a lot of the discussion around players like diaw brown james davis and sam cosmi and and ben saint juiced that not jane davis and probably not yami brown but somebody may end up getting cut that you were let like who was the guy last year and he wasn't Randy mosses son now. He was drafted thought. That is a lot of people in our fan base had him as a potential rookie of the year candidate in august or in july or in april so the way these things play out is not always what you expect. That's why like taking guesses. I think khaliq hudson year two is a real name to watch and i. I really believe that if you sort of connect the dots his his snaps at the end of last year to some of the things that have been said about him. They really think he is a find you know. Just like cam curl was find I think they really feel that way about him So we'll see. I mean i could be. I could be wrong Anyway what else Let's get to our nba wizards Guesses and i'll give you a couple of players in the draft that i really like That's next right. "The podcast. Everybody knows ben rights for the athletic. Follow ben on twitter ben standing and you can subscribe to the athletic. It's totally worth it. And ben in rhiannon and all of the local writers Make the price worth The admission and benz got a podcast to standing-room-only. You can get that anywhere you get a podcast We're gonna get into several topics with ben today but you wrote a column yesterday Where you went out and asked people about washington's rookies And you got feedback from From a longtime nfl scout and an executive who's watched each player At they drafted and before we get to Their third round. Pick which i i know how excited they were to get diani brown Let's go through one by one. What did you learn about what you know. Nfl people or at least one nfl executive thinks about washington's rookie class. Yeah so like this is an exercise. It was probably more appropriate to do sort of you know right after the draft and i did some of the things then but i was having a conversation with somebody somewhat recently and you know sort of the idea came up and i don't remember exactly which one of the players were talking about i but he made a point. That was that was interesting. I was like what would you mind sort of you know not on the record per or whatever like you know. Give me your thoughts on the players in this class that you feel comfortable talking about and that's kind of where kind of where we went and You know i think the broader takeaway is. It was the reason i wrote about. It was because camps bathroom at the start and soon enough. We'll lump the rookies in with the overall fifty three. They won't be rookie. It'll be part of the team right. Now they're still sort of a separate subset is a reminder of that like this seems like on paper to be a pretty good class particularly those guys at the top and yet james davis is going to have a lot of attention because he was the round pick and linebacker obviously is a big position of need. And we've talked about sam cosmi a bunch of because they kind of you know having been a position now where they kind of need to get something out of him at some point here because You know they moved on from working those but those two third guys think houston and the ambi- ran. You know feels like early on like that. Maybe where their best value is going to come out. And this person particularly was a big fan of of brown house me as well and You know like. I said it's going to be really interesting. You know whoever we want to give credit to these things. You know two years in a row with ron rivera. Sort of in charge of this thing at least intellectually if not from scouting perspective. You know watching has gotten high marks Following a draft will. Yeah i've always liked been of the Of the mindset that it's impossible to really great a draft until three years after roughly three years after it but last year's draft. It's obvious that they didn't with on chase young antonio gibson looks like he could really be a player and cameron curl in the seventh round. Looks like a potential. nfl starter. So they did pretty well there but number two overall wasn't very hard. You know the this year you know by the way kyle. Smith was a part of that decision making outfit last year. Right i mean. Do we know today ben. How much credit kyle smith gets for last year's draft Not not not exactly. I mean you know i think all of it's it's confusing right because even when you talk to some people who are you know involved in densely involved know what's happening whatever you know just like didn't right if you and i start right this minute having a conversation about Anything but whatever. The topic is and somehow we ended up with some conclusion. Do you ha- do you always remember exactly where they were. The idea came from. You know who. Who was the first person like i remember. Wins like for example like ron rivera gave a lot of credit. This isn't about the draft is raising. They do like He gave credit to pete. Had tight end coach. Pete hainer for pointing out. Logan thomas and that's totally seems like i'm healthy like a reasonable thing. Sure but at the same point. I had it. Pete hainer get to that person to get to that person because he automatically do logan thomas or like when jay gruden was given some credit for identifying holcomb. He didn't i. only jay. Gruden.

"The nfl pretty aggressive a re t- what they wrote spending premium draft picks in the same position group year after year should lead to success. Doesn't always work out that way but it certainly has for washington's d. Line chase young in montana. Sweat both graded out as top. Twelve edge defenders in the nfl. Last season allen was one of the league's best interior pass rushers pro football focus in twenty twenty doron. Pain remains a steady presence against the run inside those four plus rotational pieces. Such as mad. Itis and tim settle have developed arguably the league's best defensive. Line it's funny about ionitsis. There are some. I will tell you there are some that would will we out there. That would say. He's our best defensive lineman when healthy biggest weakness. The decision to release morgan. Moses opens up a potential weak spot on what appeared to be a solid offensive line. Cornelius lucas and second round pick sam cosmi or among the top options to fill that vacancy at right tackle. Yeah charles leno's the left tackle. Just everybody understand that. And i think caused me. He's got a really good chance to be the starting right. Tackle the biggest weakness offensive line. I i actually think. They're bigger questions in the secondary x. Factor of course they write is ryan fitzpatrick and then they get into you. Know the fact that he's had a couple of really good Years here. In his last two twelve best roster you know defensively fifth best defensive top five I didn't mean fifth best. I'd say top five defensive roster as a total roster twelfth. I would probably had it a few notches lower but not a lot lower It's sorta hard to think that seattle you know that their rosters worse than washington's in the is a pro football focus. Same with tennessee. A team that a lot of people think has a chance to get to the afc championship game again. I like india lot. I liked the roster. I like their coaching staff. Obviously carson wentz and frank reich together Are going to be interesting if they can. Sort of create the magic. They didn't philadelphia. I think indy's going to be really good this year. Okay if you're wondering about the you know co-ceo ceo. Tonya snyder story. We pretty much did that on the show yesterday. I will just tell you that. I spent more time. Sort of reading through that journal. Article and tommy nailed it. It's a puff piece man at as it's a puff piece or a very poorly researched piece or you know puff piece slash ground rules and the bottom line is snyder trying to convince people that he wasn't he wasn't as involved and that's the reason for the organization's culture is ridiculous. Him going a step further to say that now that the limited partners are gone That's a big step forward. As if any of us ever thought that fred smith was part of the problem or that. Bob rothman are dwight. Shar were part of the problem. Come on man. I mean deal with reality near. You can't sell that one to anybody. That's been paying attention a kerr. Apparently though the writer of the story either wasn't paying attention or was but couldn't follow up on some of that stuff all right I want to get to this interview and share this interview with you with dan. Grunfeld ernie grunfeld son. I enjoyed it. I think you will too. That's next after this word from one of our sponsors. Are you dreaming about the vacation that you wanted to take in. A ben standings our good friend. He writes for the athletic. He's been on the podcast many times. He had an interview with ron rivera. And i'm going to read to you. just Two to three short paragraphs from ben story the head coach who has final say on personnel matters spoke with the athletic yesterday morning on a wide range of topics regarding the reigning. Nfc east champions when asked which plays most interested to see when the team arrives in richmond for the start of training camp. July twenty. seventh rivera didn't choose first round linebacker. Jamie davis or raining defensive. Rookie of the year chase young. He skipped free agent. Receiver curtis samuel potential. Starting right tackle. Sam cosmi and roster candidates in fact rivera didn't even really land on a person but he did land on a position. The sport's most important quote from rivera. Well first and foremost the most obvious person. We're going to look at is going to be our quarterback position and there's two people that were going to be watching closely closed quote then ben Rights after that whether you completely by starting quarterback competition angle. Rivera's pushed this off season. Those in the mixer now clear ryan fitzpatrick and taylor heineke not included his kyle allen a starter for rivera and carolina in washington before he had a season ending ankle injury in november all three participated in washington's. Ota's last week's three minicamp but rivera claim. Those practices didn't alter his view quote. I've always kind of felt that that. Let me back up quote. I've always kind of felt that way going into it. Rivera said of fitzpatrick heineke showcase Well i was obviously wrong about that was an i. Well i yeah. You're wrong but i'm wrong that that that to me. If kyle's healthy he might end up winning the number two spot interesting so he values terra heineke more than it appears that he values in more than we thought they would. What it what. It appears is is. They value taylor. Heineke more than kyle allen's that's what appear to be.

"Unc humphries on this team which i did not realize until i looked at their depth chart but doesn interesting. I actually kinda like logan thomas attendant. I think he's got a good. The one down. I have about. This team is a little bit dubious about the offensive line. Particularly the tackle position is a question. Mark i know they brought in. Charles leno Everyone thought they would draft an often tackle early on. They took jamie davis linebacker instead. But other than that. I think financing ryan's wardrobe. It is used to play with that often slides. Yeah the line. The line is a bit of a concern. But you get surf back. They drafted. Who has sam cosmi in the second round. He's probably the favourite to start at right tackle. But i just love. I'm with you fit fitzpatrick as like the point guard with seven or eight options to throw to. We both love antonio gibson. We both kind of quietly are fans of young turner. Scott turner call on the place like it last year. He did not deserving waiting for what we saw last year. No when you watched it. I thought they made sense. I thought they maxed out what they could do. And i think it started a little bit with the shanahan falcons but to me. The the clearest path to offense of success right now is having six or seven guys to throw to like. You can't just have two or three. Unless you have. Russell wilson and like decay. Metcalf in tyler lockett. But not. there aren't many there aren't any teams with that sort of trio. Like if unless you have that you need to have six or seven guys you can throw to and you just listed off. So many you didn't lift off like camps These amazing the plateau kelvin harmon. Who actually made some plays in two thousand nine hundred ninety east coming up attorneys. I don't even know if he makes his team. But that's the point. I can't they don't have to know that like going into camp where these guys are all going to slit like phil like if adam humphreys at signed with this team last year we would be talking about him as a major signing. So who knows you might help them to and gibson. There are only about five or six running backs. I'd rather have then gibbs if that yeah. I thought he'd be good. I didn't think he'd be as good reading to the douglas. This was really cool. Blair didn't know if you saw the story. The offseason that terry mclaren scary to was working on his releases with doug baldwin that pulo pep in my step that got the got. The blood flowing pulled up some doug. Release highlights and yeah. I'm all in on the washington offense so very exciting. Okay stopdown down. You want me to throw an hour. I'm going to stop down. Panthers offensive line. I mean this. Why you've come to the times featuring lenny because who else to talk about the panthers offensive line. I was like what if have not talked about this offseason. What it hasn't gotten a lot of attention. The panthers offense i think on paper took a step back. I'm going to ignore quarterback. We've talked enough about teddy. But i don't think you know anyone can say with certainty that sam darnold like is a sure thing so what you want is for his situation to be really advantageous yet. Get christian mccaffrey back healthy. But your little thinner at receiver without curtis samuel there number three now behind robby anderson. Dj more is terrorists marshals like okay a deep threat rookie on the outside it. Those guys we always like slot in are gonna be great like you have to find out and see but i'm talking about the offensive line specifically where right now camera was quoted tuesday that he is expecting to be the surefire starter left tackle. That's a problem. Line is slated to be one of their starters at guard. That's a problem Matt paradis who has not played well since coming over on a big free agent contract would have been released if he didn't take a pay cut. That's a problem and they're probably hoping to start brady christianson. Who is a third round pick. There was like this little behind the scenes like these like draft confidential but it's produced by the team so obviously everything in it is safe enough. But they're interested. You can get some interesting things out of it and matt rule. They showed him while. Christianson was still on the board being like he. We see him as a second round guard in the third round tackle so that indicates probably be starting at guard. But i don't know man. Can't cam protecting sam darnold. I i would put this in the bottom. Five offense of lines in the league and that that's a problem. Yeah that's it's not.

"They should probably try to be doing then. You're probably looking at getting some reinforcements for this offensive line. I agree i mean matt. Canada is the new coordinator. And i think a guy who super underrated in terms of his influence. On the league of the sean mcvay stuff came from some of the stuff that canada was doing in college at the time like Some of that motion stuff was stuff that was really heavily sampled from some of his work. And so you need offensive line. Help to make that work. I mean you know all the teams that run versions of that you know gimmick and versions of that kind of flavor of their offense need offensive line help and i just think if you're pittsburgh like i mean they're going to draft another pass rushing linebacker. So why are we talking about this but You know are you really going to go into next year needing quarterback a left tackle like like. Maybe you got. You gotta fix one of these things now. You know what i mean and and and take care of one of them because you know like how threadbare is this roster going to be here in a year especially when ben rothlisberger leaves. So you're probably looking at The offense line president jalen mayfield again is a guy who again. We're we're speaking in shorthand because there's not a huge difference between left tackle right tackle. But he's probably more right tackle slash kickin inside the deal. I don't know if he's a guy you plug in play immediately. If you're looking in that you're probably looking at alex leatherwood or liam. Berg is want immediate. Help there even if those guys are not quite the the difference makers that That mayfield has a chance to become down the line and then you're again you're looking at sam cosmi your You got some other options there. But i think those are the guys at circle leatherwood in eichenberger we will we will lazily throw into the same category as sort of the may be safer options to plug onto your offensive line and then mayfield is kind of the maybe not quite ready for prime time but probably the higher upside guy. Yeah yeah i. I think i'm good with any of those and i don't know i mean if you the steelers like i just i just don't know what else you're gonna do right like i just. I think any other pick seems insane to me right running backs being thrown around. There's no way with them. They did it. I remember they did it with chard mendenhall and it was kind of like. Oh they just you know. It was one of those like well. He's high on board. We didn't need him but we took him if they running back in round one. Let me think. I will let me think you're going to immediately regret it. Well they're going to immediately regret it but Now everyone regrets it. I hope i if they take a running back in round one all come on here. I'll come on your podcast and all eat. Whatever anybody says like you can. You can mail it in. And as long as it's nontoxic and edible and you know it's not going to do any sort of digestive harm then. I then i will do that. But there's i. I would be stunned. I think that would just be like outlandishly stupid but yeah it happens. I mean it's it's the way it goes. They don't they don't typically make outlandishly stupid mistakes. You know okay kick. Colbert is as good. I would say as solid of as there is in the league. I because we mentioned earlier as as a colts prospect. Let's give them liam eichenberger here. That i'm also looking at his aim right now. Then we can cross up a-list..

"And plus he he just he lives right there. He went to north western. So that's trying to save a lot on uber stuff you know. They would have to pay him. They could do what The brown stood in the movie draft day and they could have him at the facility Like minutes after the pick you know then that i think that would be a nice thing so there there you go. Do you ever find yourself doing that by the way when you do mock drafts like you constantly give like like i. I feel every year. I mock like lsu guide to the saints psycho. Well yeah of course. He's he's right there. They couldn't they couldn't miss them. They must have seen game at some point. The thing that i do reflexively won't doing mock drafts. And i've talked to jenny about this a lot. We both before we came here. Worked for the star ledger. Which is the state the paper of record for the state of new jersey and it every year. The draft was an obsession in finding everyone from new jersey. Because that's all you do stories about people who lived you know even if it was like you know one time like the ninth overall pick spent like a summer in millburn and you're like yes and i still like find myself. Reflexively get super excited over every prospect that has played one year of high school football in new jersey. So that's like my odd draft tick. But i do like that one too like oh. That's neat like he lives there and then the team could be right there. Well what a what a great story here for the bears. Taking greg new. The second cornerback. At north no sports writer will try to tackle that one and all will be forgiven for all of the missteps that has happened hometown euro to the chicago bears and that brings us to the colts at twenty one. Who are there look. They're looking for a left tackle. Your i don't know if it's as desperate a need as it would have been. A philip rivers was still your quarterback obviously carson wentz has issues but he is a guy who can protect themselves to an extent. So i think they're in a spot where if they're taking a tackle your to guy they like if they're not taking tackle. I mean you're you're probably looking at did do they try and ramp up this pass rush little bit more. Do they address the cornerback. Spot somebody that. Oh they've i mean they've done so well with that. Defense met era. Fluids is going to be like a victim. His own success here. You're just going to say like. I don't know we never. We never put a ton of divas. We got him deforest buckner and none of that. It's just much ado dudes. And they're fine so looking at the board here. I think the tackles are really interesting again. Jalen naval i like gala mayfield. I think he's a bit of adult developmental guy. I don't know if he's a guy who's going to be particularly strong. Impasse production. i. I think he's a guy who's gonna need some help out there And frankly you kind of rehab guy. Like that and brayden. Smith is again not a liability. But you kind of don't want a situation where you need help on both sides the line but it's a pretty steep fall off after that i like sam cosmi the The the texas guy the six seven dude. I like alex. Leatherwood out of alabama as guys. Who are probably riskier and probably a little bit. If you're making a straight up draft board they're gonna come in after mayfield. But i liked them guys who potentially could hold up in sort of classic left tackle spots if he were to try and develop them that way..

"I don't know if i could convince myself of two things that this linebacking core is going to be able to operate gus bradley's defense and these cornerbacks are going to be able to hang in this defense and it's a different system you know it's not what paul guenther runs you know. Maybe if you're mayock you're all of a sudden looking for different guys and you're looking for different things you know. It's all these are all questions worth asking you know and so i think to me it still. It's linebacker it's cornerback. Or it's or it's offensive line but and you know. Luckily for the raiders are so bad that you know any of these seem like a good idea. So i i like the idea of jc horn. Here in a gus bradley off of that and you could take our net and make him. You're full time slot guy and Kinda kinda layer head to sleep at night and feel okay about it. I do look we have very tucker kinda sliding here. I really like tucker like. I think you could play alive. Era tucker at tackle if you wanted to. He's probably best at guard. I think we just haven't found a team with that howling. Need this point to take him off of our bore. But i like jc horn. Here if i was gonna go defense i think. That's my favorite picker for the raiders. I like it in. I think that sucker slide could be ending very soon. Ooh all right. We are onto the miami dolphins who obviously we We picked with them what to shows ago they had. They're picking up at six. We gave them jamar chess so they have at this point. You know if they hypothetically have added jomar chase along will fuller coming in this offseason than you already had monte park resume williams We can we can pretty much cross off wide receiver as a need on this board but yes so you're looking again offensive line. That is another spot you know. Kind of similar to the raiders. It's like okay. Well you have made investments air. Oh how do you feel about Austin jackson at this point as you're left tackle left tackle the future You know how do you. How do you feel about Robert hunt there. There are ways you could sort of squint and be pretty You know warm and fuzzy about this young officer line but now there are certainly spotting better here yet. Admit scurr on the off season. So you know. I think this is a good unit but again. I think that there's so much there's going to be so much effort. Put into legitimising to talk of i low and kind of making it happen from this year that i think he probably just do the same thing and and you give him a guy here. I mean i trying to think of what else you know. What else does my need. They need safety play right. They need With brian flora's could he theoretically be pounding the table for that patrick chung type player. Who can sort of arrange all the pieces. Which is why i kinda liked morag woodard from tcu. Like i thought he was a great player that could slide in nicely there but if if the value is as such in the board is set the way that it is i think it would be difficult for the to ignore someone like You know someone like that or allies ver- tucker You know kevin jenkins is still on the board Sam cosmi is still on the board. You know there's some there's some offensive line talent you know. Yeah i would And i hadn't really thought about morteza more woodard as an option. Here brian me. I liked that a lot..

"That's where people would. I think people would really come down hard on on the Ellen. You're there. But yeah, Look, it is again just a testament to people are jumping off a sinking ship here, right? And I mean, I don't. I don't know He can't even win the last two games in a bowl game and then we'll have the same do over where all of a sudden will go into next year. With a lot of it. There's the other mine and my prediction is if he wins. The last three If he wins Kansas State this weekend, which is 11 o'clock game. By the way, the net a move that up I thought it was 2 30 moved into 11 a.m. rates, right. So my tee time significantly, so if he wins, the two regulars and the ball I think he stays because it's gonna be hard. Really? Yeah, it's gonna be hard to to fire a guy to pay him off $15 million Unless You've got urban Meyer in your back pocket. Unless you have urban Meyer. If you have urban Meyer in your back pocket, he's going to get fired. If you do not have urban Meyer, what is the taste of people going out and getting the flavor of the week? That's what I mean, if we if we bring him back What they were just they were way never learned when we will be back here a year from now and will start the season probably ranked pretty decently on no win a couple games and then it will be like, Oh, it's gonna happen, and then they'll be three or four games where it's just an absolute disappointment. A 3605 90 What do you think? What do you think about Sam Cosmi, opting out for the rest of season quitting, said says quitting. He quit 51283605 90. We'll get into the Tom Herman press conference when we return sports talk. Just getting started here on Caleb. Okay?.
