"All these players to to lucrative deals and now with all this guaranteed money and what about what if you find your your future franchise quarterback sooner rather than later. Then you're gonna have to pay him. And even average quarterbacks now are making twenty million dollars your average your sam bradford to the i remember not long ago he signed the twenty million dollar deal and he's sam bradford. So you know there's lots consider so yet. Steelers came out of their comfort zone and they gave what the money he wanted to deal. He wanted and and twenty twenty one steelers better for it but it doesn't mean that that that it's not going to affect how they do business moving forward you know it's like a. It's a huge bill that they're gonna have to work around for next half decade. So so ryan do i think is the one off. No i don't they can try to make it a one off and try to make what the exception to the rule of how they do contracts. But it's it's not gonna work. Because fitzpatrick devin bush chase klay. Poll heck pat fryer move. Whoever they're going to say well you gave. What are this guarantee money. I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna sit here and be treated differently. I'm a superstar to so it's gonna it's gonna set a precedent that they're gonna have to have to have to abide by now you know if they want to keep future superstars of their own so on that note at the twenty twenty minutes i. I've never talked so much without taking a break. I'm pretty excited about about the start of the season so on that note. I'm gonna. I'm gonna take a break close out the first half of the show. "A second each other. He's a starter. I don't know how good he is right now. I mean zach. Wilson looks like a rookie. He looks lost but they don't have a backup plan. There you know sometimes having that quarterback that you can put in that allow once you see a pro game from the sidelines. It's just it's a different speed. And kind of getting immersed in the game plan hearing the plays called like all of those little things. These are so important with quarterback because quarterbacks will tell you that year two and three and four. It's different game you know you're able to process football at that position is really about you. Get to the line of scrimmage you gotta play called in. You probably have to place called in you. Get to the line of scrimmage and you decide if you're going to go with a you know a or go with b. that's what it's really come down to these offensive coordinators. Give you the information. Get to the line of scrimmage. Here's your read. Hey change the play and can you do that with the clock. Ticking down seven six five now you gotta go in these quarterbacks. We'll talk about that. You can study. The playbook know exactly what's going on. But when you get to the line of scrimmage can you make a decision in two or three seconds and then during the play can you make a play in two or three seconds or less than that. It's very very small window of opportunity there. But i don't know what. Urban meyer is expecting out of trevor lawrence when he's expecting that. But you do have gardner. Men's shoe who is has proven to be a good quarterback at times yeah pulling garter meshu stats are really nice. He's a sixty three percent passer but is two year career. He has thirty seven. Touchdown passes and only eleven picks. That's a fantastic. Start your glove. Yeah the internet's been trying to trade gardner shooter. The cowboys for two days and people are wondering is urban trying to create this leverage and make make more tradeable by saying he's starting are competing and i would buy into that. But if you bring gardner minhsiu going into dallas. He's gonna think that he's better than dak. Prescott i know that doc just got paid But in your mind you don't go in there going well. They paid him all this money. He's better than me gardner. Men's shoe is going to want to try to start someplace. But i would feel a whole lot better from dallas. I had gardner minhsiu than i did you know garrett gilbert or bendon Mclovin i nick. Foles seems to me. Like if six round pick i still don't get it. I don't know why wouldn't do it. Well that's what i think would be the smart move but i don't know if they're waiting to see what happens with you. You got andy dalton and you got justin fields and are you going to keep a third quarterback. If i'm the bears. I hold on for as long as i can because who knows what kind of injuries we're going to have you know preseason starting when sam bradford got traded right teddy bridgewater got hurt and all of a sudden the vikings panic. They said. let's we'll give you a first rounder. For sam bradford and they didn't want to keep but you know teddy suffer that horrible injury. But you know. That's i would hold on as long as i possibly could. Yes mclovin at politics. We were talking about with nick. Foles sam bradford but it was went was drafted then falls became the backup because sam bradford trade minutes falls is always in. These scenarios falls has become six degrees of separation. It feels like he's these like this sports. The nfl quarterback equivalent of kevin bacon. It's and look nick. Foles if you send. He's the backup quarterback in dallas. I would feel good about that as well. And i'm not giving up. You might have to give up. Maybe a second or third. Rounder for gardner minhsiu. Because he's he's still equality. Quarterback club could use. nick foles. The eagles you mentioned yesterday that really thin great bring back. bring it back in I go back to when ian rapoport was with us and we talked about the injury to carson wentz. And he said they're not gonna make any moves and they haven't they didn't because we thought all nick foles. Nick foles was openly saying. Please come get me and the cold. You know have decided. They're not going to do anything. They have a couple of backup quarterbacks who were really young but carson wentz jacobs and sam etlinger there for a team. That's a playoff team. You gotta have a backup. Who is at least respectable. And i don't think dallas has that right now not with. That owner. Who wants to win expects to win. Now that offense that's ready to go if dak prescott. Somehow someway has a setback with shoulder and go back to when we first heard about this. Injury troy aikman is the one who caught my attention when he said. I think there's a little bit more to this and that's two weeks ago and troy doesn't just throw that out there. He's not one of those. Hey i'm a gossip guy. Lemme a throw some opinions out here so somebody will Follow my my tweet. That's the one i went. Wow okay maybe there is. Something will decide on a poll question. We'll talk music. Memorabilia with the colts owner. Jimmer say kevin. Milan will join us from the field of dreams. We hear from kevin costner about that movie and the fastest man. In the world you sane. Bolt will join us as well a lot to get to next to ours. "You know like if you if you can't win vic fangio sooner or later is going to be fired. But i think he's a good coach so they i can't imagine would you as a forty niners fan. Like what do you want for compensation for jimmy garoppolo. Obviously you want. I you want whatever the most you can get but would you be happy with getting back. A second rounder for him. I'd be thrilled. Look the forty niners have no first round pick in the next two years so if they can get a pick as high as two jimmy garoppolo. I would absolutely do it for sure i. I don't know if they'll get that it'll be interesting. I think the only way they get that is if they pay some of his salary because don't forget he's making twenty four million dollars and that's teams are going to say. Look we're gonna. We're what we're giving you as we're taking this salary off your book. So that's why we're not gonna give you a high draft pick so even if the forty niners said look. We'll pay half. I'd be fine with that. They've got the cap space. They've got the space to fit in his entire salary. So even if you pay half you're still saving you know about twelve million dollars sam. Bradford sam bradford in preseason was traded to the vikings in the vikings give up a first round pick and a third round pick for. Sam bradford who. I'm sorry jimmy. Garoppolo is shown a lot more in his career than sam bradford ever did. And they did so They pay half of his salary. So the vikings didn't have to come up with his whole salary. So that could be the same type of situation. But i feel like if team can get a first and a third for sam bradford like. Maybe we're selling jimmy garoppolo here short for a second and also like think muhammed sohn new got traded for a second just two years ago troops are willing to give away these pigs in the preseason when they start to like freak out that oh goodness like we have this great roster but we're missing a piece so you know and we. We could still have some injuries here. You might be able to get a first of them. Member who got hurt. Open the door for that. Sam bradford trade teddy bridgewater. That is it. Knee had dislocated and people were thrown up on the field when they saw it Look please if they can get a. I i would run to the league office to make that trade official because that would just be incredible But i do think there's a part of kyle shanahan that feels warm and fuzzy about having to good quarterback on his roster like he so worried about injuries like that. If one of them goes down he leaves feels like he has the other. So we'll say there's there's a lot to be decided. I think the the forty niners world will be a lot different one way or the other they play the chiefs because if lance lights it up that the pressure to play him and you know the possibility of moving jimmy opens up if lance struggles on the field. Then all the hype for him probably dies down and jimmy can secure that spot so like things are going to be a lot different on august fifteenth. once that game gets played. it's crazy. We'll have another episode before they even play. Why so far away. I don't know. I hate like just being like well fast. Forward my life but like kind of want it. It's a weird weird situation that's going to do it for this edition of stats and mags. If you like what you hear please. Subscribe to the niners nation podcast network. Oh before we go. Congratulations michelle wedding anniversary. Was this week three years. That is outstanding. Did you do anything special. I thank you and so we did. We got a tattoo with Together the same on. It's kinda corny so don't make fun of but we got purpose. We wrote purpose for each other. So i have like. She has my handwriting on her ankle. And then i have her handwriting a mind but so kind of a corny little thing but then we did also just go and watch the hall of fame game last night at a restaurant so we were degenerates. You know we. We'll watch football no matter what. That's a lot of pressure when you're writing that out because you know like did you go through more than one draft or did you just take a piece of paper write the word purpose and say that's it now. He wrote at a time and then we had the other person. Just pick their favorite one from Okay that makes sense all right well. Congratulations three years. Did you do the are. You didn't do the traditional. i think. Leather is the traditional year. Three wedding gift yeah. No we didn't do that. Kate was like we'll skin. Technically leather. what are you talking about. You like really stretched out. She's the one that wanted the tattoo. You really bad She she really tries to stretch out. I didn't. I don't care about those type of things. Well congrats to you. That is awesome. I'm going on year. This'll be years thirteen for main september next month. Oh my god getting old anyway. Enjoy your week. Everybody forgetting closer to the season. "That he said paid was more involved in like, for instance, bringing Sam Bradford to the Vikings previous to that than he was with it with the Kirk cousins situation when he and Pat Shurmur working together, trying to figure things out after Teddy Bridgewater went down. But they'll always have that, like three weeks, Fan or Sam Bradford was, I think Unconscious in the pocket, But every passing through happened to be on the money, and that pretty much ended his career. But it was incredible. Lasted like I kept thinking this is That that hit is gonna be the one that ends Sam Bradford and you have the passes on money, But, um, he kept finding a spot I want to say you had like a 1 40 passer rating on the pressure, and I'm like a three game span and That was the last we saw of good old Sam Bradford. Um, but it's interesting. I would be very curious. I mean, do you think Do you think this move impacts you have or ducky does. How does it impact what to do A quarterback now? I don't think they didn't necessarily does. I think that the situation was always gonna be drew lock and competition, and we'll see this year similar toe. When Jonno we took over the Broncos. John only took over the Broncos. He looked at Kyle Orton and Tim Tebow and said, All right, we're gonna roll this out there and see what it's got. Give it a year and then I'm gonna go out there and and correct it If I need to anyone out there got paid Manning s Oh, you know, I think you're going See kind of a similar situation here. You could see a Nick Foles brought in who's got, you know, obviously familiarity in the scheme and, you know, maybe it Andy Dalton. Some like there's somebody to push through lack just a little bit, but I think it's really going to be a competition this year. And then next year when the quarterback class honestly looks a little deeper, I think that would be the one where you would start to explore. You know the draft, maybe even a trade back in the draft this year to start the stockpile assets for that eventuality. You okay? Yeah. One of the thoughts that I had was, would she be? Why would he be more amenable to a certain type of quarterback to push through lock right, given his history in Minnesota? Not that saying he would like, you know, Kurt cousins cousin but Um you know, someone that fits, you know the mold that he is, like previously and what that might be the same Donald if you mentioned Gardner mentioned before Or maybe he likes really likes to shot Watson. I don't know you're the insiders like I'm just Shawn wants is not happening. It's like, you know, they're people that wanna have some fun with that. It's not happening. Don't you understand that you're having fun, and it is not a consideration. That for a lot of people. Having fun dreaming about what their team could be is the height of the NFL season for them, and they don't want to admit it, okay, They don't want to be in it. He's always stand that jump into my mentions every no preseason. What do you mean? You say my team is gonna go under our win total. We're winning 13 games this year. You're hot. And it's like, okay, You know what? You can have your Super Bowl in August. If you want, Okay, you can and you can suffer through the remainder of the season. That's on you. What do you think about the overall level of talent on this team? That's become a little bit more of a debatable topic here and never, I think that's gonna be a big topic throughout the course of the season. But you know what? Let's just assuming they get something done with Justine Simons and von Miller is back. And you know you keep at least a good portion of your art phase. Generally speaking Absent the quarterbacks. I know that you Pff can see a nice thing. What do you think about the rest of the talent of the Broncos team? Look if we're judging dance talent than you want to include you lot. I think you've got a real promise there. Count Gary. Uh what? How did you where it's at right? Exactly. Look so one of the things that we put a real premium on here, Pff because of what you know our war value wins above replacement, Patrick. Really highlight value of receivers and receiving talent. And, you know, I think to certain that there's really good examples of that. This particular season spawned eggs and buffalo what you've done for Josh Allen there, and I really like Jerry Judy. I know the drops have killed him, but we know drops or something. That's inconsistent season. It's even important. Sutton Back. You have no fan who I think it improved a lot. This year. I'm excited about what he could bring on DATs a huge part of it like if you don't have weapons, good luck. That means huge on the defensive side. The coverage is all that kind of stockpiling pieces, and I do think there's a solid, you know, start their justice and fantastic. Yeah, You keep investing in corner, You'll get some Mrs. But eventually you'll build a solid core. So I think it's a little above average. Um, you know, maybe not 10 ish range. If you exclude the quarterback, That'd be kind of my ball Park Wood's, too. I see well. No, I mean that that seems about right. I mean, I was looking at the way you guys broke down your secondary rankings and your pass rush rankings here. The Broncos 1/12 in their secondary rankings and night, their pass rush and again..

"Their stuff like Mel Gibson I don't know the millions of German I think he's a jerk but I like Mel Gibson movies yes Sam Bradford is the opposite for me I don't like his stuff but I think he's a really good music yeah great person does not like his stuff so this is a new category I love this song put him on the map I think I love him I don't love his music I've heard is a really personal down to earth guy like from all the interviews I've heard of him in it can be when you have had the kind of success he's he's had I mean I don't want to sound like he's that that changes you no matter what there is no way around I think he's it's grounded is one could be in that situation you know under those circumstances and I think he's still a pretty genuine guy as far as I know yeah but I don't have any offer to my phone I'm not interested in the all I do I have a couple not like a ton like not as whole catalog but yeah can I say quickly lighting a lot of people of I know we're short on time and the second a lot of people have been asking me about this and talk to us talk to my mother in law about this yesterday she said I don't know what to do on Tuesday so super Tuesday's obviously come in in the Massachusetts primaries here in so what do you do well if you're registered as Republican yep I guess you can vote for Bill wild if you want but you vote for trump and get up if you're an unenrolled or you're a democratic voters what what are you gonna do so what I tried to I want to just explain this quickly to you guys just as an FYI here's where I'm thinking I pointed out on Twitter today three things number one I just like Bernie Sanders immensely number two I don't want Bernie Sanders to be the president anyway shape or form number three I will be voting for Bernie Sanders on Tuesday so why would I do this his latest in Warren well somebody pointed out because in Massachusetts we rarely vote for what we love we vote more on hate that's true so yes I I don't like to lose with Warren and my dislike of Elizabeth Warren way rises to the level over anything else that I can affect the outcome of on Tuesday so what do I want to see happen on Tuesday I want Warren misery what is the only way I can contribute to that I want her to lose her home state on Tuesday I was looking this up early I believe she would be the first one in the history of Massachusetts at least in my lifetime John Kerry when he ran for president he won Massachusetts Romney when he ran both times he won Massachusetts Paul Tsongas when he ran he won Massachusetts Dukakis one Massachusetts I think everyone has ever been from Massachusetts has one Massachusetts I want Warren to be she wanted to be this statistical thing the first woman ever well I wanted to be there I wanted to be the first woman slash person ever to lose her to lose the state of Massachusetts while she was running for president so how do I make that happen that was what my mother in law I asked my mother laws but I don't want to elect Bernie as you're not electing Bernie but if Bernie could somehow win the state then don't you want to contribute to that well now we have empirical evidence that that may indeed be happening lightning did you see this poll out today no it's from a it's from the public broadcasting station in nine Boston of likely democratic voters so we're not even talking on and roll do you know how many unenrolled voters are gonna take a democratic ballot to vote for Warren take your hand and make your one hand to make like a semi circle take your other hand to make a semi circle and enjoy them zero no one in worlds are gonna pull a bed but Dembele devolve warned non do you know how many to do that for Sanders I can stick my hand up so this is a these numbers I can tell you are low based on what the un enrolled in Massachusetts are going to do but regardless warning to this poll Bernie Sanders right now is leading in Massachusetts and in the messages primary he's at twenty five percent by the way this is before he has his rally on the common this weekend and he has the rally in Springfield this weekend Bernie's leading it twenty five percent Warren is second seventeen seventeen if that's true she's not even getting one out of five and then Bloomberg is third at fourteen and burned out there he said thirteen and border judges of fourteen their view no statistically the same whatever but at fourteen thirteen in theory they could catch her so now I'm a little bit torn do I vote for Bernie to ensure that he beat Sir do or do I vote for Bloomberg to try and have him catcher for second because I could make a finished third that would be even more delicious bottom line is this if you're unenrolled and if you aren't why aren't you it makes no sense to be registered in a party in Massachusetts in anybody that is doesn't understand this politics is a game if you want to maximize your ability to affect the game therefore you should only be registered as an unenrolled voters if you aren't when you go to the polling place on Tuesday stop by city hall to if it's not the same and didn't re register is on a roll you're gonna want to vote in the Joe Kennedy ed Markey primary for example coming up so anyway long and short of it is what do you do on Tuesday for me currently I'm gonna pull a democratic ballot and I'm gonna vote for Bernie Sanders if it becomes increasingly obvious that Bernie's gonna kick her diaper I will then vote for Bloomberg to trying get Bloomberg's numbers up to catcher for second but that's how you got to approach is staying whatever it if you're a Republican you want trump to be present your vote is meaningless it doesn't matter you can vote form fine but in the primary you can affect you could somebody said maybe you're just like the chaos guy then yes why wouldn't you want to cause a little chaos here South Carolina can do this by the way they pulled trump often there's no Republican primary this is south Carolinians are told take a democratic ballot even if you're Republican voter so again vote for anyone but Warren in let's see what happens if it's close you have to vote Bernie if it's not close then pick your other Democrat I don't care what we want her to lose Massachusetts that's my strategy anyway all right quick break sixty second check out lines when we come back lightning Nevada is doing something I think is very interesting in the question is is it time for Massachusetts to do what Nevada is doing we'll talk about that we returned it's one o'clock actually one of three here and I am city WRKO WRKO Boston available everywhere but the I heart radio app now number one for podcasting AM six eighty WRKO Boston one hundred point seven W. C. O. T. T. to Boston I heart radio station K. E. N. the stories trending now WBZ newsradio ten thirty candidates ramping up ahead of super Tuesday in the democratic primary Massachusetts a state that once seemed in the pocket of senator Elizabeth Warren now has her neck and neck in new polling senator Bernie Sanders is in Springfield tonight for a rally he's then going to be on the Boston common this weekend five girls who were on the hockey team at Braintree high school who were recently at a party during school vacation week.

Diamondbacks' Madison Bumgarner secretly competes in rodeo events

"Arizona Diamondbacks left hander Madison Bumgarner has been competing in rodeo events under the alias Mason's Saunders and even one of twenty six thousand five hundred sixty dollars and a team roping competition in December according to a story published Sunday by the athletic Bumgardner was told I told the website that he has discreetly competed in rodeos for awhile including in March of last year two days before pitching for the San Francisco Giants in a cactus league spring training game he's been roping since he was fifteen or sixteen and said he's been added so long that quote it's just part of who you are he's the twenty fourteen World Series MVP if he agreed to an eighty five million dollar five year contract with the Diamondbacks this past December and I'm sorry Courtney if I was the diamond backs I wouldn't be thrilled to find out that my ace left hander yes competing in rodeos in the offseason this is the same guy who got injured on a dirt bike do not remember that when he was with the giants and that was a serious injury that put him out for a very long time no wonder he was performing I guess you want to call that under a pseudonym or a fake name because had you found out about this the Diamondbacks might not have spent eighty eighty five million dollar a gigantic sum over a five year contract on this guy I mean it doesn't make any sense like I understand the thrill of competition and this is who we is but these risky things every sport has stuff like this written into players contracts that you cannot do I mean I always go back to when it when he got hurt in San Francisco a few years ago do you remember the month Taylor's thing when he was with the warriors he fell off the scooter when he went back to Mississippi for the offseason S. lied about it yeah that was a story that came to mind and I feel like any time something like this it comes to the light I'm not one of these people is like all the cool funny look how cute of the story is I'm like what is he thinking like you get injured and made these you know these are animals eat these things have a mind of their own they're powerful they're strong and certainly he's you know well conditioned and knows how to be around horses but you know that to me is way too big of a risk if I'm a professional athlete you know the prime of my career to take but you know he's done it before and that he is you know we don't really get that much of outside having serious injuries at receiver big penalty from the team for you know the motorbike thing according to have the details how did he come up with the alias of Mason's Saunders instead of going with you know his own name Madison Bumgarner sell it this came from directly from the athletic article that broke the story said quote if you competed as Madison Bumgarner every phone camera in the area that would have been trained on him he said so he devised Mason Saunders the surname is the maiden name of his wife Allie Mason is a shortened version for Madison and it's something allegedly his wife called him out in public so people don't recognize them so very clever I'll give him that but I don't think the whole thing is a buzz saw her story totally bizarre and the other thing is you know if this was an NBA player everybody would recognize them already because NBA players are actually recognizable it just goes to show you how anonymous baseball players are that the most clutch postseason pitcher maybe of all time can compete in rodeos and nappy racket I think what I know it's wild lake in the in the fact is here like he continues to go what do these very risky things it just doesn't seem to care yeah if you get caught I mean there's the photo in that athletic article where he's smiling and you know he's with I guess that it's a two person thing that team roping so I hope twenty six thousand dollars I hope that Madison Bumgarner did not keep that for myself given the gigantic contract he just signed in December the but yeah he looks he's not there we is in this picture I mean I just think it's hilarious how almost incognito so many baseball players can live their lives in that matter just because they blend in because they're not these gigantic athletes by and large I mean they're not six eight or you know they don't think Shaquille o'neal out there everybody would be able to tell if you're you know for the most part with NBA athletes I just don't understand why when you have hit the genetic lottery anyway to be able to throw the ball a hundred miles an hour the end and to be able to make eighty six million dollars really it's more than that doing this why you would ever risk your body or put like what your fans in your organization is rooting for on the line so recklessly and you pointed out he already ruined the giants season aired my fantasy baseball season which is far more important Courtney by falling off of that dirt bike a couple years ago and here he is I guess he says I'm just going to live my life and Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen told the athletic that quote he was not going to get into discussing specific contract language but you pointed this out that we know the player contracts have I can't imagine that the Diamondbacks are cool with their ace pitcher also being a rodeo road being a cowboy literally let alone they don't want to be a Dallas cowboy let alone in being a literal cowboy well I just remember a couple years ago at the end I felt combine whistle and was talking to Mike Zimmer about you know the quarterback situation at that point he had said that Sam Bradford had a degenerative knee I come to find out later that offseason I was speaking with Kyle Rudolph who said that he went skiing with Sam Bradford that off season right around the time of the combine so I'm thinking to myself you are here you are a health concern and you're going skiing or you could very easily risk tearing your ACL for a third time and you already had your season cut short because of injury like I wonder if these guys just do it for the thrill or maybe they just don't care because they have ungodly amounts of money to begin with if they feel like they can the kind of invincible they can do whatever they want but you do wonder like this has to be in contract language if you cannot do things like this because we know across sports there's certain things you're just not able to do I it's a liability reasons you ever been to a rodeo Courtney I half I went Mississippi when I work down there the show but county fair rodeo I've been to the Cheyenne frontier days shout out if you're listening in Cheyenne Wyoming on the ESPN radio affiliate there I gotta tell you it's oddly it is oddly entertaining but the the thrill of it is almost that you think that the that the ball right is just going to charge and block these cowboys into next year it is one of the most dangerous things I have ever seen and I never in my life once thought you know what it be cool to jump in there with these bowls and try to try this on for for my but how do you even practice you know you kind of just have to get in there and and take it on right yeah I guess I guess so what I mean I've seen the photos of Madison Bumgarner I'd taken the horse around the warning track at AT&T park when he was still a giant I just think that that's who he is this is got this guy is a country bumpkin at heart from North Carolina and I I just think that he grew up this way and it's always gonna be a part of him so he feels like Hey I'm an able bodied individual and I also have more money than anybody at this rodeo thing I'm gonna do what I want and it's somebody else take issue with it I'm sure they actually would found out about it right now well look I know why it's so good in the clutch in game seven of the World Series because if that that's nothing compared to facing down the eyes of a bull

Tua Tagovailoa's Recovery Shakes Up the NFL Draft

"Time last year to ten goodbye. Loa was the consensus number one overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft but when a devastating hip injury in November ended his season at Alabama his NFL future was cast into doubt now with new reports. That too is recovery is on track. Teams are debating whether his elite talent is worth the risk and the entire draft. Looks like mystery? I mean at times? It's Tuesday February. Eighteenth this is espn daily presented by ADT. Todd Todd mcshay is an NFL draft in college football analyst for ESPN so todd. The last time we saw Tunga Velo on a football field. He was getting started off with a hip injury and it ended his season and Alabama title hopes along with it. News broke last week regarding the status of his recovery. What we know now well first of all I was there that day and it was brutal to watch behind. He's down to us. Down Helmet came off. This is exactly what you did not want to see happen and I was probably ten. Maybe twenty yards away from him as the to. Mississippi state defenders converged on him. And you could just tell right away. Something was wrong but then I saw the bloody nose at first and they said the trainers got. The plastic wraps in there has the gloves on their hands and and I just thought all right. They're they're just taking care of his nose and he'll be done for the day and then he went to stand up and you could tell just how deep his knee drove his leg into his hip that something was seriously wrong so it's good to hear that he has passed his first test. If you will sources confirm to ESPN at the most recent tests show is healing well and has good range of motion to what could get back to football activities in a month if he continues to progress well and is now moving onto the second phase of of the Rehab and recovery stage. There's still a lot left to determine and there's still a lot of rehab to go so that's going to be the biggest thing in terms of his evaluation between now and late. April's draft is where is he? And what are the doctors really? Think about the long-term WanNa talk to you about his injury and the draft. And you know the time line for all of that but I I wanNA talk to you. About what a good football player he is because prior to that injury he was the base star in college football. And you've been watching him for a long time wind it I strike you. This guy's got this stuff how `bout that throw in the national championship talk. He had never started a game and now he's in the National Championship with the game on the line he was coming off of a bad play was able to shake it off. He's keeping his is down the middle of the field and he's working that safety just a little bit to the right. He's trying to move the safety as much as he can because if he does. He knows that he has Smith's breaking down the sidelines. The is move the safety just enough for him to go back to Smith and make the throw of the year. I mean he just knew the spot that he had to get it to and to come in the second half and to have the confidence to lead Alabama to a victory. That kind of told me everything about him. And from that point he kept developing. But if you go back and just really study his tape the things that make him special his deep accuracy is as good as you're gonNA say he's so quick twitch he's like a drew brees from the left handed side you know just how how works in the pocket and goes from one read to the next but keeps his is married to his feet. He fits what you want in today's NFL. But is he going to be healthy enough to with that hip recovery to to have that quick twitch nece and and the ability to to move as quickly as he has tie? You're around these players but also these programs. What did you hear about how to? Oh was handling the injury in his rehab process. Everyone loves him. There's a calmness and a poise about him that you rarely see with with college quarterbacks or any college player so. I'd like to leave you with this from one of my favorites McGraw songs. When you get where you're going don't forget turn back around and have the next one in line. Always stay humble and kind so confident but so humble talking. Nfl SCOUTS IN GM's not a negative word about him. He's a special human being and wherever he winds up going. He's going to be the face of the franchise obviously but he's kind of a culture changer if you will and and. I think that's part of the draw in part of his value. It's not just this injury right. He's had other injuries that have caused him to miss time. He broke a finger sprained. A knee injured his quad. The ankles even before all of this. How much of a concern with that? It's a big. It really is a big concern and the problem is if you study the history of it if you look back. I think it's the last ten years or seven quarterbacks that had college injuries there were first round draft picks that all of them have had some varying kind of durability issues in the NFL from Rg. Three to SAM. Bradford Shawn Watson Marcus Mariota Carson wentz Teddy Bridgewater Jake Locker. All of these guys have gone on to have injuries now. They're not always the same injuries. Some guys are are just injury-prone and just knowing. Nfl teams in the amount of time and the amount of studies that they do. Especially at this position. Especially with first round picks. That are going to cost you. When you're talking about quarterbacks in the top ten twenty to thirty five million dollars in guaranteed money they're doing the research on this and they all know this. You know your job over the course of these college football seasons you're not just evaluating these players you're thinking about where they'll be drafted if to ahead gun her at that point in the season where do you think he would have gone. I think he would be the first overall pick. I think if two was healthy Cincinnati would be taking to a number one overall. I really do if he didn't suffer that injury. We would be having a great debate between two a ton of Iowa and Joe Borough but ultimately my guess is that too would probably be the decision at Number One and knowing Cincinnati. They'd probably they do something to maybe move out of that spot. Make a mistake and let Miami or the chargers Carolina come up and get that pick. If I'm being honest he's he's better than Joe Borough and I love Jober but if you tell me these two guys are going to have ten year careers with no injuries. I'm taking two but then I've got a measure. R Joe Borough has been durable. Jost has shown the ability to kind of fight through pain a little bit more and to stay healthy and so. That's really the deciding factor. In my opinion I have to ask you know. Why do you think he's better than borough? I mean rose coming off of arguably the greatest season we've ever seen by college quarterback. What is it about two as game that you prefer? If I knew he was going to be healthy I think he just kind of fits a little bit better in terms of what what the NFL is today. Terms of getting the ball out quickly and being decisive and then also when you take shots down the field. But I I love Joe Borough to if I WAS CINCINNATI. I would take her over to because of the durability issues. Borough is worth the the first overall pick and I think Cincinnati would be making mistake if they didn't take jober tied. You have to take proof your analysis because you're gonNA get clipped saying to us better than Joe Borough and that's GonNa Follow you forever. You've been spending too much time around.

Giants Name Daniel Jones the Starter, Sending Eli Manning to the Bench

"Re hitting the top story of the day Daniel Jones going to start this week for the New York giants against the Tampa Bay buccaneers Eli Manning officially benched looks like his career with China's over as the starting quarterback well again and we'll see what Daniel Jones happened. I mean he could get blown up and then he lies back in there. Yes that's true I I mean but we haven't heard from Pat Shurmur and we will tomorrow and and what we will hear as I'm sure he's the quarterback and we're moving forward with him and Eli will do his best to mentor him in any. I don't think Eli wants to be traded on like he wants to go anywhere. People are wondering if he is traded spot track tweeted out while unlikely if the giants do trade Eli Manning. He'll cost his new team six hundred seventy six thousand dollars as per week ten point one million dollars to the rest of the season. The giants have already paid him six point eight million the jets are going to get Sam darnold back before or the midseason point okay. The Jaguars are going to get nick foles back around the midseason point. Drew brees is coming back around the midseason point. The steelers are not getting big ben back but it makes sense for them to see who they have in Wehr young guy a guy that Ben didn't want to mentor cantor when he was drafted last year he was definitely rankled by the drafting of Mason Rudolph the of that. I don't believe there's any doubt and he didn't say a mentor him like Rudolph said it's not Ben's Job to mentor me and he used that on his radio show which has since since been shuttered that just to put it all out there that I'll just point to the book and just say you know that's yours since he doesn't want me to mentor him even thought it was funny and and it landed with a thud but they have to see what they have in Mason Rudolph and at Mason Rudolph. Let's say performs like Dak where it's amazing and he's terrific traffic and the team makes the playoffs and gets a playoff start then. We're going to have an interesting thing on her hands right here. Ben will come back and come back saying I am ready to show up and it'll be like far like when Aaron Rodgers got there like oh I don't plan will be ready to garage. Come back in shape. He'll probably say ten fifteen rounds and it'll be ready to go and put the steelers and a tough bind but that is a high class problem and the steelers are going to find out if that's a high class problem that they can have because at some point Ben will be done and Mason Rudolph. We'll be sitting there and for Mason Rudolph he'll be able to just basically say to them because they don't have a fifth year option on him because he wasn't a first round draft pick nick franchise tag me Pittsburgh or trade me and someone also pay me like Jimmy Garoppolo. This is a big opportunity for him and whose his first quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo so we lies not going anywhere no one's going to be wanting to hire Eli manning and the giants the best backup quarterback and perfect mentor for for Daniel Jones perfect. Why would they trade him? who had taken are just told every? I just gave you the possibilities. Nobody needs him but you're you're. You're not like it's not like there's a Minnesota Vikings situation where they had to pull the trigger for Sam Bradford because they had a super bowl ready team that went poof because teddy bridgewater blew his knee up but if you take away his name. Ui Manning and you look on paper you're trying to acquire a guy is three and nineteen eighteen again his last starts and seven years old and I'll say this again do we have shown O'Hara's tweet and obviously he's biased. He won a super bowl with Eli. Put it up Shara so incredibly disappointed and frustrated with the giants right now. Defense gives up sixty three points in two games wide receiver group is depleted but let's change your. QB question marks Kurt said the same thing he sees the film you lie is not making poor decisions. He's making the right decisions. The only decisions decisions he has in front of him and he's being held to account now you can say that it's been a long time coming but it's not the only answer and Daniel Daniel Jones and again credit gettleman. He's putting it out there right now he could have sat there and say I take the rest of the year because the ownership is ready for you. Take the rest of the year and then I'll get more. I'll get more top five picks for Daniel Jones but he didn't do it. What if Daniel Jones comes out as three hundred yards and beats the bucks this week while then we're we're not talking about any more we

"What did you do? I cut my Dick off forgot to win a super bowl and she'd be like at or would she be upset for able she'd be like. Do you want me to do it. Do you want to do it now. It's a great quote bravely something a woman would say to yeah. They're always happy to help when it comes to cut dick off. Mike Variable says that because he knows he doesn't have a franchise quarterback right. Sam Bradford is not a fucking franchise quarterback. He is a free agent and of a team that he would end up on and I would not be surprised Tennessee titans would be on you have Ryan Tannehill. You'll Marcus Mariota what if tannehill gets banged up at camp. You don't think they're bringing in Sam Bradford Sam Bradford make it to a roster that is to do. Here's what I'd say about Tennessee. If I'm ready we just talked about the entire A._F._C. Right <hes> and if I'm ranking teams who have come ranking teams teams from from worst to I on how I think the chance to win a super bowl Tennessee's in the bottom five of the division but it's it's it's really close. I do think ten like there's there's a narrative. Were Tennessee has one of these random years they get and Marcus Mariota. He did win that playoff game against the chiefs on the road. We're not too far removed from that team. I just don't see it. I'm not I'm not a Mariota. What a believer? I'm not a label as a head coach today. You asked me today. I'm making Tennessee last in the division yeah. I don't know what the odds are over mybookie dot A._G.. But I would are they the best worst team division in the A._F._C.. I think so yeah fair over the raiders I take them probably over the bengals. Yeah I would take him over like three teams A._F._C.'s Yeah A._F._C.. Let's see south is stacked but titans last time they won more than ten games. Guess rent or ten games or more ten games or more. I don't know it's gotta be like years ago. Decades Sam Bradford is not a fucking franchise quarterback head coach Jeff Fisher and it was two thousand eight when they went thirteen and three they've gone nine and seven the past three years in a row. I think diamond seven is their ceiling once again but I I they're going to be worse than that was the first and only time that both Tennessee titans and Joe Fisher went thirteen. "I again like this, they gave an awful lot of money to a guy with back problems. John, I appreciate that. You're excited. I would be excited to a couple of things. The cleanup Gettleman, never called Todd Gurley. A gold jacket player saquon Barkley is kindly stand, that was one hundred and twenty eight million dollars to guy with back problems. Sean, I got back problems. I wouldn't pay myself hundred twenty eight million dollars because you know what happens. I don't know. I'm tired, I come home. I lean over to brush my teeth bam, the back goes up. Well, it is that it's not that kind of back, you're not that into the Lord, maybe he's getting healed well and you're not you're not North Dakota strong. We know that you're from, you know, your wonders. Strong bitch. You're one of those slippery. I'd ties I mean one of the. Steve politic. Tweeted out, I love this. Wow. Imagine what the giants will give ally next year. This is really, really setting the market. We actually got a listener question. No, no. From at JR rocks day, racks. Well, it is two questions. But first off, he's asking about Jerry being overrated. Serious question is Jerry mount overrated? Seems that Sapir when that's our onto by all. We'll get to that when we talking finals with the parlay Queen, and with ourselves. But also he throws in there, and he didn't he didn't say, serious questions. So he's just some Cowboys fan trying to chill also. How can Cowboys fans nappy thrilled with the Wednesday? This is great news for the division. What are you talking about? Listen as much as this is where I struggle, right. Like a there's if you wanna talk about hilarious things going on the division. I apologize if you're a fan of the team and a team in the other seven divisions Redskins gave up assets for Kirk cousins or no. Not Kirk cousins to know the, the, the story that sorry, case keenum the same way that should should entertain all of us right now is that Eric flowers is getting starting reps for the Washington Redskins because Trent Williams. How did I miss this will not eat? Oh, that's right. Trent williams. I did tweet that holding out nothing to do with money. But the way that they handled his medical situation, anyway, Eric flowers first time in my life. I've been excited to see that. He may start. Oh man the giants make you the sack. That's crazy that he I mean he he needs to wash out of league. Well, he's all okay. Now giants gave him seventeen. Anyway. Back to Carson Wentz. Whatever fair deal. He he is. Injury prone, though. This is a thing like we can't just deny the fact that we paint a guy with a bad back. We like it right? And you're already you're already team. I'm objective of noth- to put myself into this metaphorical situation and look at this from all four sides or some may say six side, Sean, see that maybe on maybe or cube. Three dimensions, bro. Step outside the box. Maybe we should have invested so much money. And someone who's maybe does he over under thirty two games left in Carson Wentz his career. I'll take the over. Okay. Lock that back problems. Don't go away. They do when it's this particular back problem. Oh, here we go. Tell me about some PSI's like the chatter heads. It's a baby fucking wheel man. He cracked a bone. The bone is fully healed remove it on. But you it's just quarterbacks in the National Football League are expensive. Yeah. Dare I bring up Sam Bradford Sam Bradford. Sam Bradford got fifteen million guaranteed from the Zona cardinals this year fifteen million dollars guaranteed. When that team drafted Josh Rosen shown number, you know, in the first round, can't cite one of the just a horrible deal to justify how Carson Wentz, it's a good deal. I think he can. Because if you're paying bad quarterbacks fifteen million dollars paying good quarterback thirty million dollars is very reasonable. I mean, he's he's all jokes aside, like it doesn't matter what you pay the quarterback. He's our franchise guy, you pay him. Yeah. Roseman is great at figuring out salary cap space. So I'm not worried about that. When you're better off paying Carson Wentz now, if you waited until Patrick Mahomes deal, which is going to be insane or deck Prescott steel or off steal the longer..

"Listen, four short months away. We will talk. It'd be talking about what's going on during the two thousand nineteen season. At this point, we can only speculate about it, but we have an idea of what the rosters are going to be. We know what everybody did in the draft. We know where both these players landed via free agency. There's going to be some veterans released due to cap concerns. Tampa Bay Buccaneers appeared to be among those teams, it appears that Gerald McCoy will be available to negotiate with a new suitor this play this guy was second or third overall pick of Levi was the third. Overall pick behind Donna, consumer in a draft dominated by the big twelve. Russell Okon was up there and jeez, may, maybe it was maybe Sam Bradford at the top of that draft. So Gerald McCoy. Jamba definitely got their money's worth out of him. Even though it didn't translate to a lot of team success when you played the buccaneers regardless of who was calling their defense, you always had to be concerned about number ninety three there. He is out there for taking. I imagine you will go to the highest bidder before when we're talking about trade. It was probably where Gerald McCloy thought that he had the best opportunity to win, but us is going to be all about who can pay the man, you would think that Cleveland would be a fun situation or him with Sheldon Richardson, already on board with Larry Oga Jobe showing a lot of promise in his first couple seasons in the league, and there's a couple of anti spots for McCoy, I would be willing to bet that he does not sign with a bad team and that he alternately goes to the best situation that offers him, the very most money which is just the logical approach that you would have to take unless. You're just that hundred win. And I, I really can't put myself in the shoes of not that player, but that human being that asked to make sure that he's taking care of long term. And, and I, I know that the us regular Fokker out, you know, out there, we look at the difference between seven and nine million dollars as a, it's all gravy their way. But, you know, this is real money. This is short try short period of time to earn you know, maybe guy like McCoy doesn't get, you'll get -tunities in the media or coaching after his playing days through so yes, absolutely maximizes. Earning potential, a while he still can know under twenty to do it in Tampa Bay. I would love to see him in Cleveland. I'm not sure how realistic that situation is very realistic situation in Washington. Lot controversy surrounding bringing in Reuben foster accused of a lot of things. Convicted of I don't believe anything but he suffers an injury during OTA's and the other off season training activities..

"They might have been the only team that was top ten in offense and defense I like their coordinate. Do they I'm not I'm just not sold on the Anthony Lynn era, and we're trying to identify which one of these quarterbacks is gonna hit the cliff. If feels like it could be Philip. He's had these heavy. I n t gay. He's he was still. He was still awesome last year. He was dealing. I think we gotta we gotta take our take our chargers. Right. Speaking of NFL, I'm gonna you know what I'm gonna go back and sit on her. I think there are nine win team. Speaking some bad NFL, head coach is Sean ex Rams coach Jeff Fisher has called the report that you. That he will coach the XFL's Houston franchise quote, false news. He told Jason lockenfora. Maybe get a better source. That's hilarious. William Bradford is not a fucking franchise quarterback. How awesome would that be? If. Jeff Fisher Sam Bradford just get the band back together for one more time down in Houston for the XFL. And we just have an opportunity. Imagine a world where we can bet on against Sam Bradford N Jeff ish on more. You say are you are you happy or sad? If you are a Houston XFL franchise fan. Are you a Houston? We need yet. Who knows who knows? But did you know in investigating this story? You know, what I learned Sean, do you know what Jeff Fisher was doing this past year. No, well, he was acting as the AFC director of football strategy. My god. No, like, how did we not know about this? I have faded the entire leash. What a grape. We should. I mean shame on the audience for no one finding this on the internet is that not the greatest thing ever. I'm really disappointed in our listeners. We they know how much we've you know, how strongly we feel about Jeff Fisher same Bradford era. Very disappointed. No one. This hadn't come to our attention till now. Okay. So you're going over on the chargers, I'm gonna go under. I think they get snake bit. And again, no way they make the playoffs. Two years back to back Chicago Bears win total Senate nine and a half. They won twelve games last year. I think regression as possible, but goddamn I'm not going against Khalil Mack. That defense defense has been owner regress, maybe won't be as dominant but Mitchell he made some throws in that playoff game. He didn't look completely horrible. You still got Rico? And I think they have another year of the offense a system. Yeah. They think of winning games. I'll go over. Mitchell. Call. Mitchell trubisky. What did we see from this bears team? What do they do play? Great at home. Yep. Dog should on the road. Yep. What do we have opening weekend? I'm not going through the whole schedule. Sean opening weekend the Packers at home. Hopefully, your brother will not be wagering on that game. And then they go on the road to how does Denver get this. Every year early bears at Broncos than bears at Redskins. I that is a not. That's not a great start. Right. I know the Redskins won't be. But these road games. I would be concerned if I was a bears fan for that reason. Five before their first six games are on the road. So not the best schedule. It's all tough. But I'll stick with L stick with over nine and a half just based on how Cleal MAC, man..

NFL Rumors Mailbag: Kyler Murray, Justin Houston Trade

"Yeah. What this is shocking to me in the sense that when we were having this discussion about quarterback musical chairs in the fall. My thought had always been the Jags are going to draft a quarterback. And it still seems to me like the more prudent direction here is for them to move up for Golic Hoskins or Murray rather than giving Nick foles twenty million dollars a year when you're already over the cap, it just I just don't understand what if the answer is both. And what I mean by this is that Dave Gettleman came out and said the sin. I think this has the opportunity to be very dumb trend around the league. But did other came out and said, we'll work was the Kansas City mom's it's stupid way to think about which is adding a veteran die on a legitimate contract. And then the guy learning behind him. Now, I don't think that them bring in foles precludes them from taking quarterback in the first two rounds. I don't know if they bring in foles, obviously at a number like twenty they're not gonna trade up into the top five, but they could still draft a a significant future starter quarterback type guy. Now, I think is a couple of things we need to to sort of peel back on with the Kansas City model first of all not everybody's gonna be Patrick Mahomes. Second of all the infrastructure in Kansas City was so remarkably good perfect. They basically structure had Nagy and and read working with Smith and they assigned Mike kaffa to Patrick Mahomes. And so you. Had not only Mahomes working with Alex Smith every day working with read in in meetings. But also anytime he needed something explained to him. He basically had the quarterbacks coach at his disposal. The infrastructure and other places is not going to be like that. There aren't three really smart or four because out include Eric b enemy in that. There are not four really smart innovators in thirty one of the other teams in this league. So if you're going to try the Kansas City, Molly better have Kansas City coaches, and you'd better have talent like Patrick Mahomes need better have a leader like Alex Smith. I just think that was a unicorn if you want to replicate a good luck. It does not make sense to me to allocate your resources in that way. If you're going to sign Nick foles, the idea of drafting a quarterback in the first two rounds, you are team that is built to win at this very moment. That's why you're signing foles using a high level draft pick on a quarterback while also burning twenty million bucks on your starter that I I have no idea. Why teams think that's a good? It's the same thing. The cardinals last year paying Sam Bradford what they did. Wall dressing. Josh Rosen like just put him in just put him in. I it's Mahomes is such a different case in that team was on such a different part of where they wanted to go in their schedule. The Jacksonville Jaguars are there. But why would you tr what would you also draft the guy? I just don't understand that at all. I don't know teams plan specifically. But there are a lot of teams don't know what they're doing. No. There are a lot of towns lie they're doing I don't know if anybody's looked into the last the NFL's celebrating one hundred years and one of the Constance is like my field of dreams speech. The only constant is a lot of teams and have no idea what they're doing my favorite part about. This is gonna be what happens with the offensive line market the players in the pass rushing market or good enough that even with those top four guys off giving Dante Fowler big deal or Trey flowers Iansa. There are players I like in that group more than others. But I'm still okay. With a guy like trae flowers. Getting paid. But it's going to be amazing when the guy Daryl Williams is off the board and then Roger Sappho than teams like, well, we're the Donovan Smith winners five years sixty million.

"And CBS sports network series. XM two oh six we got you may five to two forty two twenty-seven good calls early. We'll take some more this hour and the rest of the show. Blake Martinez will join us next on the Packers their linebacker. What went wrong with McCarthy? What he you think of his new coach obviously coming for an offensive background the floor. The former four native for the titans this past year. And we'll do inbounds out of bounds us our since good got a lot of stuff to hit obviously, Mike. What is the you didn't vote yet for the poll question? Did you take? No, I did not. I just cast by vote and actually voted for rivers. Let's see. All right. So this is on Tiki and Tierney entering the divisional round, the guys wanna know which player head coach is facing the most pressure. Fifty six percent of you say Andy Reid so far fifteen percents. Sean McVeigh twenty percent say Philip rivers. That's where I lie. And the reason I do that again. Andy Reid makes a ton of sense here. But. Andy Reid coach ten twelve more years if he wants a good point. I mean, well, there's a finite. Limit on all of us. But I don't know if you'll want to hear you, but it's rapidly approaching and then four percent said others in that's kind of a mixture between lock although I don't really agree with that Dak Jason Garrett Tom Brady at speaking of Tom Brady that this is pretty interesting here teak. So, you know, these polls where they do these anonymous polls around the NFL did they do this. And they would put it in the magazines when you were playing, right. Yeah. But I don't ever remember participating in one. I don't protest now. I don't know. I just kind of wasn't into these things. I hear you fans. Find these things interesting though, because it's always nice to know what you guys really think about your peers. Yes. And let's see the category of underrated. Kirk cousins was the most overrated, no surprise and other votes Philip rivers apartment. That's under a ally. Manny was the second most overrated is odd because I don't I think it's perfectly on point really overrated. You're basically saying he's not even rated anymore, but who who's rating him so high. I think that's like residue from maybe three or four or five years ago. It's a residue from. Maybe it's attention. Maybe they're looking at this as who gets the most attention making process. And didn't make sense to me. I hear what they're saying. I got really that rated that high. Yeah. Yeah. I know where you're coming from. So ally was the second. Most over rated according to the poll, Joe flacco got a ton of votes that makes sense. Matt Ryan got a lot of oats Matthew, Stafford which I think is a good choice. Yeah. Tom Brady, Derek Carr. Andy Dalton Dante who cares about Andy? Dak prescott. Jameis Winston and Sam Bradford Bradford Bradford. You should get an incomplete. For him. This is this is why this is a little bit flawed because I think it's more of a popularity cut than it is an actual out. The watching these guys play didn't watch Sam Bradford play because he. Yeah. Three weeks. You have the the of the article, right? I do the underway to once guy. Phillip love love. Look, the ones make all the sense in the world. Lamar Jackson is one who also got votes. But I mean what he did to that. Offense was ridiculous. I gotta tell you. I you know, I like Lamar I would put more of the overrated foul why? Because you can't throw. Yeah. But there was no expectation for his first real pick. I agree. But there was no expectation for him this season he came in. And basically ran a college offense in the National Football League for seven weeks in average two hundred thirty yards on the ground in scored seven touchdowns and ran for like what seven hundred yards. It was ridiculous. How good he was. He did what kids in college can't do in the NFL. Did it in the NFL? I get why he's not thrower. Quarterback at the end of the day events will live in college. When he was beaten, Florida state. You won the year. He won the Heisman Trophy. Always completion percentage was I think it was fifty nine right? If the night, it's probably fifty fifty but we talked about that because he ran down downfield system. Throws. He will never be a sixty six point whatever percent completion percentage player ever. But he's got to be around sixty six percent. And look how successful they were. I feel like the more Jackson's gotten and partly rightfully so he's gotten a lot of shine. And I guess why. I take mild mild. I would mildly protests that he's highly underrated here based on the votes is because people rarely incorporate his deficiencies, and I think you need a little more balanced. I feel like when we hear about the more Jackson. Partly rightfully so save horror. Boss job got the ravens to the playoffs. They were dead in the water. He plays on the changes. I understand the perfect counterpoise throw. Here's the thing. They didn't have to and they didn't need to. And so they are very aware the ravens, and I even think Lamar Jackson are very aware of his deficiencies, and they just they avoid them. Whereas other teams they have these quarterbacks are like he he'll figure it out. I remember Gino Smith. You don't remember Jesus? I just think it's a perfect example because your jet fan. Hill figure it out. You know, we'll we'll we'll we'll beat it into or whatever what will coach it into them. We'll have him play for three different coaching staffs and the weapons and basically never know if he could have been good doesn't even. Process deficiencies were there deficiencies he threw the ball through bowl. Well, do you know how to pretty bowl horse, but he didn't know where to throw it? The lagging pags. The other ones. Underrated. Drew brees. I russe still underage. Lavished praise on the way through breezy money man said he was the MVP until like eight or sixteen homes for up until about week eight or nine. Yeah. And then as we've said on at least for us. We win for about that breeze jumped over about four weeks. Five weeks a week thirteen and then he had a couple of bad games and impact Mahoney. Cowboys game was the end that was a Thursday game teens. What was the final week fourteen or fifteen whatever, I know they got shut out. So that you put up a Donut on national TV. Yeah. You can't win the quarterback. I get him is underrated. Russell wilson. Definitely is probably he's probably the most underrated player meeting. All the sports. Forget about just the NFL. He might be the most underrated player at all sports because they don't they didn't have the team to be where they were this year. So much. Yeah. They had a great run game. But a lot of that is predicated on on on Russell Wilson, Alex Smith was also at the top of this list. He was in the top three and Philip rivers, which is a little high for me. 'cause we we love Philip love all famous I guess because he has an achieved anything we want to look at him as an underrated player. He's still a great player. Cam was actually will break early. So we can look at forward. It's to blakemore tina's the Packers. So we'll break in about thirty seconds here. But can't was voted the most underrated. I don't I don't feel that. I think comes from. Underrated. It's because I think you might be the most overrated, but I think it's because of what guys are now aware of how hurt he was and how banged up his his shoulder was throughout the season yet. He was always there at least until the end when he when he sat down for the last game or so, but I think that's respecting because he played through injury, which I get as a as a player as a competitor like respect, bro. I mean, I hear you though, I see your point, you know, I. All right coming up next. What in the world happened with McCarthy? All the reports the the division the.

"I'm in the remote Florida studio, and we we were discussing how how much I love Chicago to beat the Minnesota Vikings in how I thought Chicago with love to not face Minnesota for a third time this year and what happened. Well, the Chicago Bears. Sean they won as almost two to one dog. So. Interesting to have to thank team and then play them the next week in the playoffs. But I I mean, listen for all the talk all the talk about how bad the NFC east. Is it looks like they got two teams in the playoffs. Sean. So great. So great ride. The bears were your dog last week. You also hit on the three t's a Baltimore. Philly in Houston, my lack came in and in tremendous fashioned with the Buffalo Bills, and yeah. And just for those keeping track at home. I did finish above fifty percent with my NFL lacks another season the books getting you guys paid. Yeah. I looked at the situation and the situation in week. Seventeen was Kirk cousins has to come up small a big game. And Nick foles has to come up big in a meaningful game. What's not to like that was the easiest money. I've made the season was parlaying the bears with the eagles money live. Did you actually do that? Yes. I actually did do that paid three to one. That's a nice that was a nice little proposition. They're big big time betton with your heart. But that's all right. Sean. So times you got that someday. Yeah. Listen obvious. Granted I m supervised eagles fan, but I'm. Also tremendously biased against Kirk cousins. Because cousins sucks he's four and twenty five against teams of the winning record. Why has no one else seen this? It's it's painfully obvious. This game reminded me of that a few seasons ago and the Redskins all they had to wit. All they headed to do at home against the giants. Giants. Listen is the giants team. So they weren't playing for anything in week seventeen. All they had to do was beat the giants division rival at home to get into the playoffs. Exact same scenario exact same outcome. He looks horrible. That's why the Redskins didn't resign him. You. Don't let franchise quarterbacks go. You just don't with the exception of Nick foles, probably walking the Aussies. You just don't let franchise quarterbacks. Walk and Kirk cousins is not a franchise quarterback. I wanna update the sound. Dr Ryan we've we've been killing Sam Bradford for so long who he is not he's not he's not been mentioned as a possible QB signing in the off season. It will be interesting to see where same Bradford lands and what you're saying show. There's no way Sam Bradford resigns that's thought last year. Somehow he's still ended up getting nineteen million out of the cardinals. So Sam Bradford will end up on an NFL team. Yeah. It seems like we're we're angling closer and closer to a very delicious. Fuck Mary kill of Sam Bradford. Who would who would the third one be Sam Bradford Kirk cousins? And is it Matt Stafford is that the ultimate trifecta of almost quarterbacks. Well, I mean, you could would you put Alex fifth in there? But I'll Smith actually wants a playoff games. He's actually put together pretty strong regular seasons. Stafford's probably probably in there to a guy that you just seemingly have to sign, but you can't get rid of. But you know, you're never gonna win anything with them. I figured it out. Sean I'm gonna because I think when we started doing the podcast I used to call it the Taveras Jackson gatekeeper..

"sam bradford" Discussed on The Business of Sports With Andrew Brandt

"And and maybe we've got another crop of guys that will be the guys in their cities for years to come in on these rookies, you mentioned four of them with Lamar and bay Baker and Josh Allen and Sam darnold throw Josh Rosen in there so five I run quarterbacks all playing at the end of the season in one, of course into the playoffs. I have remarked a few times even early this season. The idea of a tyrod Taylor sixteen million or Sam Bradford a fifteen million even Josh mccown. I know he brings a lotta the things besides on the field at ten twelve million dollars to me if I'm running team and I to pick gun first round. I'm not doing that. I'm not paying fifteen million dollar placeholder because at some point early and we saw everyone early except mar Jack. When they're getting in there and you throw them in. And they get the growing pains. I just want your thoughts on that. Because I wonder if we're going to see that going forward. I wonder if these teams are really going to invest on these fifteen sixteen million dollar place holders when they're about to turn the team over. Yeah. I think that's a great point. Because it does seem like a waste of money. You know, it seems like a waste of apps space. It's a waste of actual dollars. And I I certainly feel that way about the Cleveland Browns because they also gave up a pretty valuable draft pick for time. Now at the time I felt like they did that because John Dorsey felt like it was important to change the culture, and that he wanted to get a quarterback in there that could help them get to five hundred that could help them win some games and kind of turn around the vibe and the talking points in narrative as it relates to Cleveland Browns and ended up doing that. But it was after tyrod Taylor was out and Baker Mayfield was in. You know, it wasn't until Baker Mayfield came in that they really turn that narrative around which is why I think they were willing to give up the assets and pay the money they paid for tyrod. Taylor. Now, I think the cardinals is a little bit different because drafting number eleven it didn't really know how it was going to play out. And if you say, you know, what we'll wait till after the draft shell put will then it's may I who still available may I now the flip side of that would be. You know, they got Mike Glennon for four million. Did they really need to pay Sam Bradford fifteen or twenty or whatever it was? Right, right. It really do that. But I do think the Browns and the cardinals are in different situations. But you're right from both managing the team from a cap standpoint, as well, as you know, just the cash outlay, it really does seem unnecessary to go ahead, and and pay those guys those kind of amounts of money. Yeah. And I think listen we're seeing a trend. I'm talking about it asked about all the time. You have rookies on young young quarterbacks on rookie contracts, and you can re devote resources to other areas of the roster. You dilute those other resources with these like, I said fifteen sixteen dollar backups, and I understand people want insurance policies, but that's not the way to go. And you look at these teams that had made your spending..

Arizona Cardinals turn to QB Josh Rosen in 4th quarter vs. Chicago Bears

"To the bears. Meanwhile, trying to hang on against the cardinals. We saw Josh Rosen coming to the game. Let's get more on that. From brock. Rosen came into the game with the cardinals trailing sixteen fourteen three consecutive turnovers by the starter. Sam bradford. Got Rosen into the game with the cardinals trailing here. The barriers often takes over after Rosen. Threw interception on fourth at five curious moving third to hate. Take down for a three yard loss which put the offense in a tough situation. Right now, the bears trying to run out the final minute of the game actually minute. Five left up sixteen to fourteen Mitchell Trubisky twenty four for thirty five hundred twenty yards through the air. Interception. Trubisky is eight yard rushing on the ground. Gordon? Howard Twenty-one carried for fifty four yards in a one yard touchdown. You also have Alibaba to three catches fifty yard delete the wide receivers. They're for the Chicago Bears for the Arizona Cardinals. David johnson. Four catches thirty yards. A twenty one yard touchdown catch in the first quarter also rookie skills. Jones one catch thirty that also sport opened up things, but that was a long time ago for the cardinals fifteen fourteen nothing lot of Saint Saint Bradford quite his way out of the starting lineup us thirteen ninety one hundred fifty seven yards two touchdowns in to intercept. Also gave a fumble Josh Rosen on that drive three twenty seven yard pick one zero five here left to go bears. Santa hold on. And this thing sixteen fourteen the move the two. And one in season. And that was a rookie mistake by Josh Rosen was and it was he's trying to throw an out pattern. The D back actually would have done himself a favor by just not going to boil down rather than intercepting because it was down. And they ended up losing five or six yards on a plate. Whatever. Watching Rosen did move them down the field. They got a couple of first downs. Open wide receiver is the bears were in a little bit of a prevent defense. Once they crossed me to feel the bear tightened up the little bit and Rosen success stopped and ended with a fourth down attempt pink bears. If they get a first damage games over cardinals are using their timeouts to try and get the ball back. One more time if the bears can hold on and win this game. You're talking about the first place Chicago Bears because the Packers the Vikings are both in one one in one. And even if the lions win tonight, they're only going to one and two this would make the bears to and one. They'd be sitting atop the

Lenovo's Yoga Book C930 Redefines a Travel Laptop

"There's a new yoga book from Lenovo. The the, the keyboard isn't e ink screen and it's a, it's a thousand bucks. I used one blind. Has it good hands on video. It's a thousand bucks. The screen is it's used for the keyboard and they do a really clever thing where the the sort of, you know, touch Pat on the bottom track pad. There's just this little like lozenge little oval, but then when you put your finger on it to grab the mouse, the keyboard shrinks down and the track that goes over it. You move your mouse. So he wanted to take your finger off and then it goes back to the keyboard. So you can get a full-size track pad and bigger keyboard in the same space. That sounds great. That sounds great. But like when I'm using laptop, I got hand on the mouse hand on command. See, you know, steel toed from stack overflow. I would like my goal is to get really good of him commands and be able to just be one just be all keyboard, but I'm not there yet. I don't know. That seems it looks beautiful. It looked so clever, but like the last yoga book. So in practice. So the other thing is the eating screen works as like a PDF reader and you can also get doodles on it and they beamed to windows. Yes. So it'll it. It only supports PDF's. Now they say that e book and dot Moby are coming. Which is annoying. You can draw on it and then copy and paste your drawings or you can write on it, and then it will do OCR and pay said into windows. So it's like the eating screen isn't running windows. You can't just take any all app and like throw it onto the screen if you want. It's running some separate proprietary thing that communicates with windows instead of being an actual part of windows. Yeah, I think this how it works, but you can do stuff like you can if you have a PDF on there and you like draw square on the thing you want to copy and then you paste it is a PDF is color. It'll pace the full color thing, which is, I don't know, I guess. And yeah, it is just tiny and skinny and beautiful and really well made. It's got two USB seaports which is what it should have. And it's also got until that the m three year and I five processor on it, which is what it should be. But yeah, it's dozen bucks. You really want it. Are these the new until processes, their seventh, Jen. They're not eighth Chen. Whiskey lake for like ten minutes. I was typing better than you expect. Although I was using prototypes and just like the last yoga book, they hadn't dialed the hap Dixon and so you'd like type on it and it just like remark mom, my mom. This is what I'm saying. Yeah, you can't. You can't do this stuff. This is why the three d. touches good because of the hat Dick's. Yeah, no, ever every computer manufacturer needs to look at what apple did with a tactic engine and then look in the mirror and be

"Bit, tonight it's the falcons and the jets going head head course the. Falcons you've heard you've heard by Julio Jones, story? Right I, mean he caused me to retire from fantasy football last. Year you, know he caught some. Balls got some, yardage didn't really. Score it was my first pick in So, I kind of. Retired from from fantasy this year I gotta take I'm taking. A year, off maybe I'll come out of retirement later you know. Make, a big big presentation here around the radio station anyway we'll see if he. Can start finding the end zone a little bit more I know that. Something he and the falcons wanna do and Matt, Ryan we'll see if he can return. To MVP, form but what, a tough, division they, have I. Mean seriously the Panthers the saints the bucks it's tough although they're catching a bit, of, a break right now because the buccaneers I again listen they've. Been underwhelming the past couple of years to get Jameis Winston being bencher suspended for. Three games, so they don't have to deal with that but yeah I think I think the, falcons got to be right there toe-to-toe with the. Saints the rejuvenated saints from what they, did last year nobody expected that nobody expected, the saints a. Good defense and a good running game and they did and they were one like phantom missed tackle from from doing something special last year so that that's going to. Be a tough to visit taking on the jets Sam Sam darnold you don't you kind of get the feeling that Sam, darnold is going to be the starter on opening. Night against the lions on Monday night, football we talked with Gordon Damer from ESPN, New York ninety, eight seven earlier in the program about this guy's progressing very well you got teddy Bridgewater out there who may or may not be trade bait at some point, but Yeah don't forget now Josh mccown Josh.
