"Black masters. That means now the Democrats need just one more victory to actually keep control of the Senate. All eyes, of course, are on Georgia this week, where there's a runoff to be determined there who will win the Senate, and the Senate race in the end. WTO Capitol Hill correspondent Mitchell Miller, this weekend morning with more. Republican Herschel Walker, alluding to his NFL career at a rally that followed one held by his opponent, Georgia democratic senator Raphael Warnock. We've done this before. We know how to win a run off. Warnock won his runoff in 2021. Their race could determine control of the Senate, depending on what happens in Nevada, where Republican Adam laxalt still leads democratic senator Catherine Cortez masto. Meanwhile, counting continues in house races with Republicans still needing more victories to regain control. Close to two dozen races remain undecided, and some final California results could take weeks. On Capitol Hill, Mitchell Miller, WTO. Saturday morning at one 34. More than 26 million people have actually already applied for student loan relief. But a federal judge in Texas this week has struck down president Joe Biden's loan forgiveness initiative, declaring it unlawful. CBS News T four affairs correspondent mark with Brennan, moderator of this Sunday's face the nation on CBS with more for us this morning. In the lurch in confusion, The White House had encouraged people to continue signing up even while this was being litigated in the courts. So it isn't clear what the next step is. But the midterm races are over and this was something that had been seen as a big driver, perhaps of the appeal to younger voters. I'm sure people who wanted it would like the program delivered on, but as you know, the lawsuit has been contentious in terms of at least 6 Republican led states who were challenging the legality of it. So we'll have to stay tuned and see what comes next. On another subject, the House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy was planning after the midterm elections to run for speaker and become Speaker of the House as Republicans took the majority in that chamber. He's finding maybe some obstacles in his way though. Well, we're still watching what's happening out in California with some of these House races that are still unsettled. We're going to have some update on that from our Anthony salvanto this Sunday on face the nation. But yes, this was not the outcome that really Democrats or Republicans expected from these races. And the smaller the majority that Republicans may end up with, the tougher the position for a leader who has to wrangle a caucus that may be a bit unruly. You need 218 seats to govern. And if you can't govern, what do you do with that majority? We're going to talk about some of this with Democrat Jamie Raskin of Maryland, who is seen as an important voice for the Democrats. If, in fact, things like major investigations and hearings and all the things that have been promised on the campaign trail by some Republicans are delivered

"And here are the top stories. We're following for you this evening. The midterm elections are just three weeks away, voters are already casting ballots in 18 states and voting starts in 8 more this week. CBS News elections and surveys director Anthony salvanto talked about what they are focused on and which party can take control of the House and Senate during an appearance on CBS's face the nation today. The Republicans have a turnout advantage, more of them say that they're definitely going to vote. What could get the Democrats in contention to maybe hold the house? It's young people. If young people were to show up more than they say they are going to, and the democratic seat number goes up where they're writing contention to maybe get a bear majority. According to a new CBS battleground tracker poll, Democrats momentum to keep the house has stalled for now, the Republican lead has stabilized today at 224 seats to the Democrats 211. Worsening views of the economy and volatile stock market plus rising gas prices are behind this change. And while inflation remains a stubborn concern, one of president Joe Biden's economic advisers is highlighting the progress the administration has had on bringing it under control. During an appearance on CNN's State of the Union, Cecilia rouse noted the actions by the Federal Reserve are beginning to take effect, those hiking interest rates. She also pointed to fewer job openings and a cooler housing market assigns the red hot economy is slowly slowing. Ralph said because of the overall strength of the U.S. economy, the country is in a better position than most countries to rein in rising prices. Inflation is at a 40 year high, but what's happening with prices in our regions to largest cities. A new study measuring inflation in U.S. cities ranks the D.C. area 21st after 23. Baltimore, though, is 5th. The wallet hub study finds prices have risen about 6 and a half percent in D.C. compared to this time last year, in Baltimore, prices are 10.2% higher than they were last year at this time. Factors contributing to inflation include the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and labor shortages. This wallet hub study measured, as I said, 23 metropolitan areas using data from the latest consumer price index. That's a national measure of how much we're paying for things like food, energy, medical bills, and housing. It's 9 34. Police in Stockton, California have arrested a man, they believe is responsible for the deaths of at least 6 men and injury of one woman when 43 year old Wesley brownley was apprehended. Members of her own Tory party are now publicly calling for a leadership change. Ben Wright, political commentator for the BBC, says the first 40 days under her leadership have not been smooth sailing. There is great bewilderment and anger within the Tory party about the first weeks of Liz trus premiership. The ditching of the entire platform that she secured the leadership on the turmoil in the financial markets, the plunging in the parties ratings in the polls, the sacking of her Chancellor. I mean, it has been a completely tumultuous roller coaster, and many Tory and peace say now enough is enough. The current Tory party rules prohibit a leadership challenge for a year. Prime minister trust could also threaten to go to King Charles to ask for a general election to order general election to keep her detractors in line recent polling shows her party would lose if an election were held today. Now to the latest in the war in Ukraine, where pro Kremlin officials are blaming Ukraine for a recent rocket attack in Donetsk. That's a key city controlled by the separatists, the Russian backed, officials there say the mayor's office was seriously damaged by that rocket attack. "1111. Democrats have a narrow majority in the House, but upcoming races could give Republicans the edge there, according to a new CBS News battleground tracker model, CBS News elections and surveys director Anthony salvanto with some details. The current house blue for democratic seats read for Republicans. Democrats have this narrow majority just over that 218 line that you need. Well, we talked to voters in all these districts. And when you put that together in the model, some of these seats go over the line, that would give the Republicans control at 230. Currently, where things stand. Now the reason for that. Number one reason is voters say what's on their mind is the way they think things are just going in the country and they think it's going badly. So what happens? Well, they start to punish the party in power for that. And those who think it's going badly are breaking towards the Republicans. So what are some of the issues that could drive voters to the polls? Let's start with roe versus wade. I looked in particular at women under 50 because they're such an important part of the Democrats base. Well, for them, they're saying the abortion issue is just as important as the economy and the inflation and inflation. Now, what's going on with women registered voters generally? They think that a Republican majority would make things in the country worse for women more so than better. All of this affects the democratic base because Democrats need these votes. Well, what happens? You look at the democratic base saying that their party is not doing enough to protect abortion access. So Democrats still need to fire up that base and say they can do something about that issue they care about. Again, CBS News elections and surveys director Anthony salvanto, the CBS News YouGov battleground tracker, was conducted with a sample of more than 1700 registered voters with a margin of error of plus or minus three points. Jack sports on the way, it's 1113. Want me to make some coffee? Oh, yeah. You know, I used the last filter, but there's more in the pantry to the left. Yep. Right where she always always what?
