"Sakis from Colorado Public radio at Elk Creek Marina. People wait in line to back their trailers into the water to pull their boats out. And some, like Walter Sweat cough are frustrated. We've seen this play go up and down many times, but we're not happy with it this year, of course. Cause we're all getting kicked out early and we paid for slips for the season. Blue Mesa is Colorado's largest reservoir. It's already less than 38% full, and now it's being forced to sacrifice more water to send to Lake Powell. Erik Logan is head of operations at Elk Creek Marina. He had to shut down six weeks early because of the low water levels. It's a big hit for us, for sure, there's a bunch of employees that thought they would be employed in October, and suddenly they're out looking for employment in the middle of August. The deepening drought in the West has dealt a double blow to Blue Mesa this summer. With climate change. There's less snowpack and warmer temperatures increase evaporation. So less water is making it into the Colorado River and reservoirs like Blue Mesa. And now the federal government is taking water from this lake and two other reservoirs. If we were full, it wouldn't be that big a deal. But since we're already so low, and we're barely hanging on By our fingertips on trying to stay open. You take eight ft of water and suddenly we gotta shut the doors and move everything out to deeper water, And there's nothing we can do about it. Lake Powell on the Utah Arizona border hit its lowest level on record earlier this summer. Loken worries the reservoir will need even more water from Blue Mesa. If the drought doesn't improve. The question is, are they just going to release whatever we get? That would become a very big problem for everyone around here, Blooming said. In the other reservoirs were built in the 19 sixties for times of drought. It's a bank of water that the states can tap when they need it, says John Macleod, a water lawyer in Colorado. The.

The Tide Turns Against Biden as Trump's Popularity Surges

"Sean look at this past weekend commemorating nine. Eleven president biden goes to three. All three sites doesn't say a word doesn't speak at any of them. He's booed lustily at those three stops I i'm sorry to report that f. joe biden was seen and heard often in fact that the yankees mets game f joe biden was was thundering throughout the stadium but there was president trump. Visiting a fire station in new york greeted with joy with love with affection by the brave first responders Who we were commemorating on this twentieth anniversary. It feels like the tied at least to me. The tide has really turned rather rapidly. Do you agree. Well let me put my own spin on this. Because i think that a couple of things number one. It wasn't to your point. I was watching this coverage and it was all these politicians went and spoke I didn't speak but but they'll let and that's fine. I mean everybody look. I said this before. I don't judge anyone in terms of how they honor. People are prey or serve the country. I mean everyone's got their own stick and and so. I don't think it's fair to judge. Somebody for trump goes in like gets in with these firefighters and police officers their you know high fiving down and listen to their stories and telling him how much you appreciate them. And somehow that's the wrong thing to do which blows my mind. Cause i'm thinking. I'm not going to criticize other people. But there's one thing that i think. Those firefighters first responders police officers need right. Now it's a it's a leader that comes in and says. Hey look in the i i wanna tell you about how much i appreciate your sacrifice. Your service The idea that what you've gone through these last twenty years. I mean so i just go but here's where i would sort of nuance the difference. When i walk into that press briefing room. Almost every day. I felt like i was walking into the lion standards. These guys were coming out. There wasn't one maybe one or two That were that. Were coming at me with fair questions. And the funny thing is a conservative media. Many cases was harder than the liberal media because they demanded the president trump Stand up to what he campaigned on and rightly so they did ask it much more respectful. What jen sakis. "Hacks on this committee say they need to see the call. List the call records to see if members of congress fomented the assault on the capital. They hope to confirm their narrative that the riot was a planned insurrection. Reuters reports at the fbi is found. No such evidence in six months of looking conspiracy is a crime and a matter for the justice department. Not congress chia thank. This is a fishing expedition. It's meant to scare you. It's meant to scare you now. I'm not a huge fan of kevin mccarthy but kevin mccarthy who is the minority leader for the republican house had damn well better follow through on this if these companies these companies acquiesce and send this information. These call records of members of congress be specific over to other members of congress. Listen a red line has been crossed. A red line has clearly been cross we now have effective totalitarianism and tyranny. Where one political party can spy on another party using fake legislative tools to do it better. Nowhere that's nowhere in the constitution here. The third part of the peace. And we'll move on because it's important so mccarthy's been warning these companies against rolling over to democrat noting. They could forfeit their ability to operate in the united states. He better follow through with this. Democrats and the media spun this as pressuring companies to ignore duly issued subpoenas. It's not the subpoenas are illegal folks but mccarthy was pointing out that federal privacy law protects information and the democrats haven't provided in court that they're committee is entitled to these records. Mccarthy better follow through because if this is the case at democrat members of congress can take it upon themselves to demand private call records of opposing party members of congress. When they don't like their politics folks all is lost at that point. All is lost mccarthy. Better follow through. If these companies illegally provide this information to the democrats mccarthy better follow through and if we were in the house in two thousand twenty two licenses should be revoked. it should be full on war against these companies. They don't wanna comply with. Us law is a penalty. for that. i don't like looking at the box. There's always a box on the screen. Sometimes i miss. It drives me crazy. Seattle the corner of my eye makes me nuts are moving on. I said i warned you about the january six commission. Sadly all this stuff is coming true. So jen sakis a fraud peppermint patty. "Failure of the by administration in afghanistan represents an abject failure of this entire administration just as afghanistan has collapsed so rapidly the biden administration has collapsed as well. They are m. I a gen sakis out to lunch. She's on vacation. More importantly the president is him. I leading many to say what's wrong with it. Where is he. Where did he go. Is she sick. does he have some condition. How could he not be addressing. The american people this is a failure for the world and certainly catastrophic consequences are going to be faced right here. In the united states my heart breaks for every man woman and child in this country at around the world whose families spilled blood and sacrificed on the battlefield for twenty years and the main. That was jim acosta. You heard a moment ago. Jim acosta from cnn. Tearing into the biden administration for this abject failure this catastrophic failure and this is not political. There's no joy in this epic fail and this catastrophic outcome in afghanistan. There should be no political. This as i've said for years afghanistan is complicated. But this is on joe biden and there's no way around it.

The vaccine will prevent you from being hospitalized. You're dying. He said here's what he said. Yesterday about masks. And this is what at the white house off. Rhonda santa's kinda of digging in his heels and say no to having our five year olds in florida where mask look forward to this upcoming year to be a normal school year the in person and and and live like and like normal kids. There's been talk about intentionally. People advocating at the federal level imposing compulsory mask on kids. We're not doing that. In florida at the end of the day. We gotta start putting our kids. I we gotta look out for their education is really comfortable. Is it really healthy for them to be muzzled and have their breathing obstructed all day long and school. I don't think it is. And i looked at thank a three year old son. He got people like found. She saying he should be muzzled that you should be throwing mass on these three year old kids. It's totally unacceptable. The white house didn't like that at all. Let's check in with circle. Back jen circle back jammed in like what the governor said well as a parent myself and i know you are one if i were a parent florida that would be greatly concerning to me because kids under the age of twelve or not vaccinated. They're not eligible yet as the president said last night. obviously it's can be led by the fda but certainly. We hope that will be soon. But that puts kids at risk. It's not aligned with public health guidelines We know masks are not the most comfortable thing. I will say mike. It's quite adjusted to them. As i know many kids are So certainly we would have concern about any steps that doesn't buy public health guidelines and we think it puts people the I'm so relieved. The gen sakis kids are used to the masks and very comfortable with them now. Aren't you glad argue. Your kids needs to be need to be comfortable to your kids. Need to be as good as jen. That you know are okay with masks. I mean th. There's gonna be very interesting battle between governors like rhonda. Santa's he won't be alone. I expect henry mcmaster and south carolina. I mean you get on the list a greg abbot of texas. And of course they keep telling us they breathlessly scream. The texas and florida are surging with coded as somebody pointed out the other day. Cove isn't surging. We've had such historic dramatic epic decreases in cova and now that this delta variant has been introduced it is going up a little bit but since it's going up the messages panic panic panic perspective. Can You Build a Business Alone?

"Can you build a business alone totally by yourself? Well, the simple answer is yes but what kind of business you could literally open eliminate stand in your front yard and that's considered technically a business providing a product for a fee you make lemonade youth set up the table you sell it. The fee done deal but we obviously are not talking about lemonade stand. We're talking about a business that could actually stain your lifestyle and make it a comfortable one. You know if you're going to go into business and start something and really work hard on you WanNa make sure it's worth your while. So has the potential to make you financially free. Is this possible. Yes, it is. But there are caveats and we'll talk about they are in a moment. This can be done. I've seen it done and I've done it myself where I literally ran the whole business by myself. No external help not even a freelancer no external services nothing. Just software and my time it was a services business. I was creating business websites on wordpress for Mike cline since is over a decade ago and I did everything myself the marketing the sales, the service, the actual craft of building the website, the maintenance the the customer calls the invoicing, the financing everything, and I've seen a lot of entrepreneurs start out this way, and this is what's called being self employed. This is not being an entrepreneur, an entrepreneur somebody who leverages resources and time in order to produce results for their customers and to be free. Of the business meaning that they can step away from it for a month or two, not do a single lick of work and the business continues to go because they have teammates they have pleased they have people working on things. The system goes they build the system they make the hires the put in the assets they put in all the things they need to do so that it runs by itself that's what an entrepreneur really is. A self employed person is somebody who actually works for themselves. Very similar to what I was doing when I was doing my business consulting firm and I was building websites. This is very similar to somebody who's a doctor and running their own clinic, a chef that runs her own restaurant there the business owner and the talent, and the really the product. They're really the the thing they're selling the service, but it is technically a business but one of the things I've learned really early on about twenty years ago is a big difference was self. Employed person and an entrepreneur I learned this from Robert Kiss Sakis Rich Dad poor dad his book and he has this four quadrant system that talks about like you please you have self employed you have entrepreneurs and you have investors and really these are the four ways people make money in this world and the top two quadrants are the employed and self employed in the bottom two quadrants are entrepreneur and investor, and you really WanNa be on the bottom quadrants because those two quadrants. Leverage Time Leveraged Talent. They're not exchanging their time for money. So I worked in my business building I saw the people. But when I was not doing that I wasn't earning money, there's no way I could step away from it because my clients wouldn't get what they paid for. So let's just flat out say, yes, this is possible but you're going to have to do as a self employed person because that's how it works. You have to hire somebody else you have to empower somebody else to do that work for you. In order for you to be free of that attachment to the business or attachment to delivering that service or delivering that product. Now having said that that's still a business being self employed is still a business and might enjoy that you might like that kind of business people that love control and love their craft will love this type of business. Now, I am of the opinion even if you love your craft photographer, you can benefit with some key hires a manager somebody who deals your finances someone had to go she your rates. Somebody to build your website all that kind of stuff is worth having people hired either as a freelancer or as an employee or part time to help you just focus on your craft as a photographer and not deal with the other logistical things because that's your magic sauce, right? That's that's your. Special talent and you should focus on that as a service provider. But even if you didn't, you can still run that business. Now having said that again, there's limitations. There's only so far. You can take that business when I was building. For my clients, I was pretty inexpensive the beginning, but then I raised my prices raise prices. But even if I raised my prices to an astronomical amount, let's say for example, I was charging forty or fifty thousand dollars a website I would need at least six weeks to create that website and deliver it to the client and receive my fifty grand. So even if I was charging fifty grand a website, I can really only bring on about eight clients a year given you know. Holiday season things like that, and that's not bad. But at the end of the day, I cannot make more than four hundred, thousand dollars a year in revenue, which is a great number. You know that's not a bad number as a pretty healthy business in revenue but that's basically my ceiling. I, don't have any more hours in the day I. Don't have any more weeks in the year and if I don't WanNa leverage my time and I don't want to hire somebody that's my ceiling.

"Major blazes in Colorado. Michael Hayden is incident commander for a wildfire in the northern part of the state. We're working with the other fires right now trying to share resources. We've said just about everything we have out on. We're calling from resource is all over the nation. Colorado public radio reporter Michael Elizabeth Saca's joins us from the town of Eagle that's nearer a large fire in western Colorado. Hi there Hi there. Thanks for having me on. So tell me exactly where you are. What you can see what's happening there. I'm not far from dot Sarah, which is one of the areas on pre evacuation notice, which means folks need to be ready to leave. At any moment. The Grizzly Creek fire is burning in a canyon nearby, about a mile east of Glenwood Springs. And this canyon is one of Colorado's natural treasures. One firefighter I spoke with describe seeing it burn as heartbreaking. This fire has shut down Interstate 70, which is the main East West highway into and through the mountain community is and this shutdown is causing major issues for businesses and commuters. And because of this, it's the number one fire priority in the nation to try and get it contained. And the highway has been shut down for more than a week already, so the number one fire priority and the nation, But as we mentioned, there's there's three other big fires in Colorado right now. What's going on with those Yeah, more than 130,000 acres have burned in total and a few 100. People are evacuated some from their homes, others from campsites and trails. There hasn't been any structure loss. Yet. Firefighters are working really hard to try and keep that from happening. Pine you have the pan gold fire north of Grand Junction is now the fourth largest fire and clarity is recorded history. And these fires are hardly contained at all. At this point, it's and it's really smoky close to these fires, especially but around the whole state. The state Health Department has issued an air quality alert for the front range and surrounding counties, which warns that at risk folks especially should stay inside. Like Children. Older adults in those with heart or lung disease. Yeah, I was going to ask how the pandemic is affecting all this. How What do we know about how covert 19 maybe affecting Either the people trying to flee the fires of the firefighters trying to fight him. Right. The State Health Department warns that there is an overlap. The people who are most impacted by wildfire smoke are the people who are most at risk for the worst symptoms of Corona virus. State, said the meeting of Copan 19 and the Smoke is quote a really public health issue. Some research has shown that exposure to air pollution can worsen the outcomes of catching the virus. And while fire smoke can irritate and weakened the lungs and immune system, making someone more susceptible to infection. The state's suggestion to stay inside to avoid the smoke, they say is now even more important, because it can also help stop the spread of Kogan 19 as well. What do we know? "Will make sure you get those tickets. I'm telling you folks, the Expos going to be just amazing this year. And if you miss it. Well, at the end of the day, you missed it, and there's gonna be no going back. So if you're if you're in the Houston area, and you know, you you don't have the day off you need to take a personal day off you need to go to your boss, and and beg just get the day off come on out. Be a part of what this is all about if you're outside of Houston, you know, get in the car and drive to Houston. It's not that far if you're in in most of the Texas cities outside of, you know, maybe going all the way out to El Paso or Midland. But you know, if you're in Dallas, or if you're in San Antonio urine Austin, you really don't have any reason not to get in the car and drive down there and be a part of this event. And if you're outside of of just a, you know, an easy drive that kind of thing four or five hour drive. You can still get discounted airline tickets. We still have hotels available. You know, folks, you just gotta make an effort you got to take action. And if you don't take action, you're going to miss out on all the opportunities, and I'll tell you we have really stacked the deck this year. It is going to be in a. Incredible incredible event later on the show. I'll I'll talk a little bit about some of the things that you'll be able to experience. But before I do that like to get into today's topic. What I want you to do is understand that in all things real estate. You need to pay yourself first. And this is the this is the paradigm of the equity goose and the cash flow golden egg. Now, why am I saying all this? Okay. Well, I find it interesting that wisdom is often clearly laid out before everyone in a book or a lecture, but very few people actually understand it. It's just isn't a Polian hill wrote in thinking grow rich when he hinted that one needs to reroute the book several times, and even then the wisdom can only be captured when a person is ready to hear it. And I'll tell you that is that is powerful stuff in the wisdom that I have in mind is the treasury that can be found in the children's fable the goose and the golden egg. Down. I'm kind of going over this topic today because we had Easter yesterday. And even though I did a couple of shows on Easter I chose to not talk about the equity goose and the cash flow golden egg. But in today's show, that's what we're going to talk about the idea was further developed and popular wealth literature, such as George classes, the richest man in Babylon which was echoed in Robert Kia Sakis rich, dad poor dad and also supported by Warren Buffett's, first and second rules of investing. So let's get right into this. You know, paying yourself first this simple. The powerful concept is generally known as to say it pay yourself. I I gotta keep saying it pay yourself first most of you that here. This will be familiar with the principal. But my guess is that few truly understand it and fewer still practice. The concept. The concept is so simple yet possibly the most powerful wilt building principal available to the average person. So what is? Pay yourself. I mean, what does it really mean? Well, in the richest man in Babylon Classen describes a technique that includes putting aside ten percent of your income to pay yourself first. The idea is simple yet profound in its implications. I find that. There is widespread misunderstanding about what pay yourself. First means though, the definition is subtle but important to understand if you plan on using it to create wealth, let's start out with what it's not. It's not luxuries, folks. Some people think that the pay yourself. First mentality means to treat yourself to something. Nice. When you get your first paycheck or any paycheck for that matter, for example, someone might get their paycheck on Friday in decide go out eat with I dollars check before they pay their bills is important to realize that this scenario does not pay you I but instead pays the restaurant. I do you see the settle difference? If you're paying yourself first, you would still have the money. Money in your wallet in your Bank account. Now, let's talk about buying a house to live in excuse me. Many people think that they're they're paying themselves. First by putting money aside to purchase a home, while this isn't the worst thing you can do with your money, a home doesn't qualify as a cash flowing asset. You know, Robert kiyosaki made it very clear and rich dad poor dad that your home is actually a liability because it takes money out of your pocket each month. So let's talk about another myth another lie. The automatic dispersions distributions to not dispersion distributions to four one K, many people think are actually, you know, a lot of you are stuck in his four one K thing. I mean, I'm just going to go off on a little bit of a rant here. I did a show yesterday where I showed that it doesn't work real estate is much better vehicle than your four one K. But you think because you get in a matching and things like that. It's it's going to be a great investment. Well. You know, you arrange with your employer to automatically deposit. Ten percent of your paycheck into a four one K and wall, this is in line with the spirit of paying yourself. I it doesn't completely qualify under Warren Buffett's rule of investing the problem with the 4._0._1._K is that people tend to invest in stocks or assets that might lose value to make matters worse. People tend to tap into the 4._0._1._K's early borrowing against it or taking a premature distribution and worst of all the majority of retirees have to draw down to their four one K principle, which is effectively killing the goose that for Hong K, folks. It's just a glorified savings plan. I don't care who calls it investing. It's not it's just a savings plan. So let's talk about the real definition based on my understanding of the works of Warren Buffett, Napoleon hill, George Klasen and Robert kiyosaki. I have come up with a definition of what? Hey yourself really means the simplest comparison. I can make is the goose from the goose and the golden egg wealth is created by consistently. Feeding the goose that provides you with golden eggs in order to continue to grow in wealth. It is important to always feed the goose and never ever ever destroy it. So what is this equity goose while I like to call it the equity goose because it's an asset or group of assets you own and contribute to on a regular basis that rewards you with positive cash flow. Your equity is your excuse me, your equity goose is not your net worth the two concepts are loosely related, but not the same thing. Many of the assets you might own the contribute to your net worth will not qualify as your equity goose in order to qualify. An equity goose your asset has to meet three prime requirements ready for here. They are. I. First of all you can't tap into it. It is of the utmost importance that your equity goose always grows and never gets smaller. This automatically qualifies your rainy day fund because you might or dispose skews me this disqualifies rainy day fund. Boy, I'm just getting tongue tied. I'll tell you what we're gonna do. We're going to go to break. We're gonna come back from the break. I'm explained you those three requirements that you need to follow in order to make sure your equity goes does not get killed. This is out Gordon on the Dell Wamsley.
