The Inspiring Story of Raido GM Barb Yoder

"General manager of the radio station that carries our show in the Tampa Bay Area, really our flagship station since I live in Florida now full time, barb yoder is a pretty amazing woman. She's the general manager of AMH 60 the answer she runs the cluster of Salem radio stations in the Tampa Bay, saint Pete Clearwater region. And she's a pretty remarkable woman. She's a cancer survivor. And as somebody who has followed her for years and worked with her, that was pretty tough for all of us, not to mention what she went through, and yet she beat it. And when she beat cancer, the journey she was on was inspirational to anyone who knows her because being the strong person of faith that she is, she never, ever expressed any doubt or reluctance to embrace the idea that God had this that God was in control no matter what the outcome God had this. And you know that about people of faith, you know that deeply spiritual believers. Understand that no matter what adversity you face, God has this. It may not be the outcome you want, maybe it will. And thank God in barb yoder's case, it was exactly the outcome that we had all been praying for. She beat it, she is fit and healthy and ever smiling and a great presence in my life.

Lockdowns Only Reduced Death Rate by .2%, According to Johns Hopkins Study

"Now I have to admit, here in Florida, we never really locked down. But many states around the country, many cities did, it was weird for me because I was here for most of the pandemic. I was in New York a little bit. It was like going to a different universe, different planet. Because we didn't have that kind of lockdown mindset in Florida. Thank you, Ron DeSantis. Now, they did in Democrat run cities to some extent, Tampa and saint Pete. Democrat mayors progressive leftist mayors and shutting down businesses, you know, all kinds of things that sort of tried to defy desantis, but overall, Florida did not shut down. They did not lock down, but plenty of states did. Much to Tony Fauci's satisfaction. The fact that we shut down when we did and the rest of the world did, has saved hundreds of millions of infections and millions of lives. Flat out a lie. Well, according to Johns Hopkins, now unless you don't believe Johns Hopkins, they're hardly a conservative organization or an institution, Johns Hopkins released a study, the death rate was reduced by point two percent.

Steps For Growing Your Coaching Brand

"Your friend in business success and marketing? Thank you very much for tuning into the podcast show on today's episode. I want to talk about the five steps to Growing your personal coaching brain. So if you're a coach or even if you're a consultant or a trainer, if you do anything online and you offer a transformation, this is going to be very instructive to you. You're going to get a lot of value out of this five-step process and it's not about building some elaborate plan and massive business. Right what it's about. It's about having a streamlined process where you can scale to your first two hundred thousand then five hundred thousand even a million dollars a year using these five simple steps. So let's jump in and get started. Number one is that you've got to create massive value up front by creating valuable content that can offer a transformation to your ideal by month. Sona so those people that you serve the people that you want in your coaching program and you Consulting programs and your mentoring programs and your online training products and services those people, right you want to create a massive value valuable content that they can consume at their Pace whenever they want online through blogging through podcast in through you tubing whatever platform you prefer and I would highly recommend that you pick a couple of platforms but it's going to be transformational right? You don't want to just put content out there just for Content sake off a lot of people doing that. Right and the biggest danger you can make also is relying on social media to place your best content. There's been a lot of people over the years that have them spooked for one of the better word, you know organic posting our cross social media. So they're teaching the to put your best blogging or your best plugs or your mini blogs or your best contact number. On on a LinkedIn post or a Facebook post or anything like that. Now the danger with that is that all social media platforms at some time will change their organic algorithm and what you will end up with is you'll no longer get the rich that you really want. So by all means post on social media, but don't let that be the only way that you're getting content out into the world right out into the internet into the web. Right. So you want to be placing content in multiple places, but not just one place don't hang your hat just on Facebook don't hang your hat just on LinkedIn posting. That's a dangerous place my friend because what will happen is those platforms will change their algorithm back sometime cuz what they want is they want our advertising dollars, right? So they get us hooked with a free algorithm and it goes great and we reach lots of people and then all of a sudden they flick the switch off. And before you know it you post no longer get the reached as they deserve. So make sure you using podcasting. Make sure you using YouTube make sure you using adding content on your own website, right but whatever reason, you know, people have gone crazy with sales funnels, you know, they think that building a funnel is the only way that you're going to grow your business. What can I tell you that is not the only way to grow your business. In fact before solar panels were even sexy or trendy you grew your business by adding value on your own website people would go to Google look for it find it comes out to you and book a call. Right? So you want to be adding massive value. You do need a sales funnel if you're doing paid advertising, but you do need a website where you're offering value in life got somewhere to store your content. So it's step number one is to create massive value through valuable content and step too and I I covered this already dead. Bit in step one step two is to create both organic and paid traffic to that content. Right? So when you create your content and you create a page on your own assets on your own website on your own landing pages in your own email marketing when you create that content you want to drive traffic to it organically. So organic life you create content on your own website and then you'll flip over to social media. You'll take a snippet of what's on your own website and you'll dump it on social media and steal everyone back to your own asset, right? That's the name of the game to get people out of one sandpit into the other Saint Pete and enter your Sanford things that you can control and that's really super important. So create an organic traffic by sending people back to your own assets and create paid traffic to do the same. You know, why not do a Facebook post or a LinkedIn boost or whatever it is that you watch. To and send people rather than send people to a sales funnel their offers no value and just ask them for an email address and all you've done is put a headline on a page and say you watch my webinar on the same thing twice to grow and scale a seven-figure business. What a load of bull shit right in exchange for email address. Like what you want to do is offer massive value booster content post right? Say hey, I just created this Autumn blog. I just created this awesome podcast. You should go and check it out. Throw some advertising dollars towards that that will build some value. You don't need a funnel. You don't need a webinar right need to offer massive value. You've already created it in step one and then you can pay to have that promoted in step two and you can also share that organically through your own SMS marketing email marketing Facebook posting Facebook groups LinkedIn post linked in groups that has many ways that you can share your organic content

Interview with Thriller Writer Andrew Allan - burst 1

"Hi. Everyone may guest is the author of the wall Asher Thriller series you also right to grind house hulk. We've gotten talked about. He is an infomercial writer and director is also into wild cope movies making them I believe. And runs a website called daily. Grind House Dot. com I guess today's Andrew. Allan. Hi Andrew. Thanks for being here. It's Sure thing I love your resume I mean you're you're by it was fascinating to me because I love sill as well as books I assumed that you were infomerrcial rendered director before you started writing books. Yes. Yeah I, my career is little bit weird in the sense that I went to film school and then I, broke two commercials while I was working on developing movies and I ended up getting a job at the home shopping network, which is based here in Saint Pete Florida and. It's bizarre. Everyone presumes it is, but it was really great experience and I learned how to do a lot of things including sell on TV and that often into doing infomercials, which is selling on TV so and I have to say I love it as ridiculous as it sounds I it's great profession. Sounds. Really cool actually. What made you decide to do infomercials and what prompted you to start writing books? Money prompted me to start doing infomercials. Is You know we all need it. We all like it. But three Oris was. Like I said, I. Learned to basically sell on television when as at. and. That is a natural transition into infomercials and when I decided Lake Age San. I knew I wanted to make my writing or sorry make my living still riding in. If, directing producing commercials. In what was great about infomercials was at a Niche. So instead of just saying, Hey, I'M A. Commercial writer and there's ten thousand other people are competing with. I said been infomercial right better and maybe ten people on meeting with. So now I can like authentically say one of the top it from our show writers world and I've got a ton of experience done thousands of commercials in the ask aid and all that sort of stuff so. It's great and that's how that came to be the reason I started writing books. was because I I remember reasons when I was creatively frustrated had been making movies had been writing screenplays in. which were fun and some of them got made some of them did. But all of them required collaboration and I had reached a point where I didn't really want to collaborate anymore. At least for a while, I needed a break. And that's even on projects that I absolutely loved movie that was aching with my best friend and. Even then like we would get into arguments and about I just needed a break from that. So I wanted to do something on my own and that's when I decided to write a book had a story. Kind of kicking around that I'd never been able to turn into a script. I finally figured out how to make that work in book form, which was the first of Asher took and. Took it from there, the other the other part of that story is. I was actually reading a book by. A very famous author that we all know who I'm not GONNA name and Not to sound Eric and I thought it was terrible house like a weight. and. I actually caught myself saying I could do better. And? You know a very arrogant thing to save for someone who's never. But I decided to see if I could back up. And I think I did. unbelie speaking I didn't think I was right. Funny because a lot of writers actually do start offers those kinds of thoughts I do this. Anyway it wasn't even looking down at the writing it was in fact. The looking at the idea of being writer was more like this story is not entertaining be and. I know enough about story structure from screen plays and things like that. where I could look at this and say, really was about me thinking this guy should be doing a lot better for albig their name is and how much money. Yeah. You points for originality on coming up with a protagonist is infomercial writer. Director. But I see that you've drawn from your own background or at least I assume you have. Tell US little about wall. Ask How is it? He gets into the kinds of situations that would lead to thriller. Series. What I had to figure out. As. He is comes from my background. I did go down the road of right now and that's because. As confident as I was writing commercials in his confident as was writing movies I had no confidence whatsoever writing a book so I figured I ought to. Rely on everything that I could get off the so. And then plus the idea. Of Him being an infamous rider was intriguing. You know. I. Like all of us had written read million books about cops and lawyers and soldiers, detectives and reporters. That's great. People are probably doing it better than me. So let me try something completely different. And I worked at it worked because I think wall what I like about wall. What I like about these books is that he has to rely persuasion to kind of get by doesn't mean he's not physical. There's a lot of action in the books and But. But he is a true amateur sleuth who has nothing to do with. Justice and basically starts out he lives on the Rainbow River, which is a real. River Donnellan Florida about two hours north where I. In he's he's in the river because data's friend's house by the water and finds his friend dead on the Bank of the river. With an alligator in the process of Jim up. But it's clear that the alligator did not kill him so. One thing leads to another and the villain in the story overplays its hand. And attempts to kill. Walt. And it becomes very clear that he has to do. Something a balance it's no. A- paranoid. It's legitimate in in the Diet figuring out. took. Let's see you also, right. Does poke at the series also correct. Those books like you fun. Grind House. I I. Guess. Okay so Basically the Grind House was forty second street movie theaters in the Sixties Seventies in eight Times Square. And They Kinda just show like all the really gross horror movies the karate movies, all kinds of stuff you know movies that were generally looked down upon, but also provided extremely visceral thrill. And I love those movies I think they're A. A love cult movies, and so my grind house pulse series is basically me coming up with ideas for grind house movies, it putting them at goes. It's different than like the wall Asher stuff is war. Thriller Mystery Thriller Suspense Ryan How's Paul is pushed things over the edge a little bit more. you know there's more violence and there's You know just like you'd see in those insane movies and they're really they're. Their books of movies I would love to see. Yeah Yeah. You. Should check public domain deserves some really crazy things that you probably already know that. That's for sure. Oh my gosh. If you receive Nanos hands a fate. Badly. I had yes. Oh my God. That's all say about that. There's some movies that are just so bad. You have to see them. That's one of them. Well, that's a little part of my resume I produced Herschell, Gordon Lewis's last movie. Own Donahue Herschel is he's the guy. He was the first guy to put Gore in a move back nine hundred and sixty three in the movie blood feast. and He did other movies like wizard of Gore or girls and two thousand maniacs. E, Kinda started it all and he was. Low budget exploitation filmmaker and I had the great fortune of. Meeting him in basically getting to produce a movie for one of my heroes. While that's fantastic. That's wonderful To get back to Walt. Is there an overall story ARC in series? So the first book was really just a test to see if I write a book. Well and that feeling. Of. Really sort of rabbit story. There was a slight. Subtle hints. To where it could go beyond that story. Then after I thought about it and I liked the process and I thought the book went well and I didn't get demolished by reviews as like yeah I'll continue the so. As it exists now there's a three book. Arc. Where each is a complete story of their full length novels, but the villain is the same in the three of them. The Antagonists Casino tag is more of a secret organisation kind of thing than just one person specifically. So there's arc with that and then in between each novel. I, I wrote an Avella. And those are side stories, featuring walt and some of the same characters from the boat but not related to that big overarching story. So. Just kind of Nice it's sort of like a breather in between, but you still get to spend time with the characters. That's cool. Yeah. Most of those are. Rooted in the fact that. Waltz basically best friend up on the river where he lives. Dining digi who is actually a criminal biker. And he's into all kinds of criminal stuff but he's just Kinda like one of those Florida Good Ole boys who are fun to be around and for whatever reason he likes wall is completely not of his world. So in the NOVELLAS. Those. Tend to focus on D. G. Getting Wall to do something for digi in that usually on the danger things like that, and and that's what cell shock which giveaway book for this interview is one of those things. Lead. US

"Sis in less than of this is why the polls are so bad less than a month ago Joe Biden had the Florida primary race well in hand forty one percent of the vote in the Saint Pete poll well that's weird because of the fact that now Bloomberg is the number one front runner with just a month to go before the Democrat voters go to the polls so it is pretty low let's see more than a twenty seven percent select the Bloomberg as their top choice this is hello Florida Biden secure just twenty six percent so there's still a lot of support for by now I was just saying earlier about how Biden was in New York yesterday to get he wanted to money raisers he was expecting to get a million dollars from each one that was what he needs the money if he's going to be able to fly around all of it is going to have to all of them but the fourteen super Tuesday states plus he still got Nevada a week from tomorrow and then South Carolina a week after that that's expensive and you've got people on the ground in their salaries and everything else so it's expensive and so he was looking for two million dollars that's all he was looking for heating get it he got a hundred thousand but still people pony debate hundred thousand but they were they were mostly Wall Street very rich Wall Street top executives that were at the fund raisers yesterday so I guess a collective eight hundred thousand from a couple hundred people wasn't all that hard on them to give so Bloomberg is first place twenty seven percent Joe twenty six the poll's margin of error one point eight so basically it's tied the technically Bloomberg's in front and blow over hasn't even been included in polling until recently and only scored a modest level of support in the first St Pete and Florida Atlantic polls few hundred million dollars ads later Bloomberg now looks much like a player in the sunshine state if that's all it takes to undercut Biden then he wasn't ever going to survive a frontal collision with Donald Trump all by ed Morrissey so we'll see how what hello all I know Florida you're still always a big important state when it comes to presidential boating I don't know where this is going viral York right rights with the Democrat presidential feel beyond the New Hampshire primary in flux Michael Bloomberg has become the subject of intense discussion might he say Democrats from a lackluster lineup of candidates can he defeat Donald Trump that's what this is about Bloomberg is one thing because he spent a lot of money but I think what it really says is that there's a big group of Bernie burrows out there they're going to support Bernie all the way and then the rest of them are all scared to death and they're looking for somebody and I think Michael Bloomberg is the beneficiary of the fact a lot of Democrats are looking around and going I don't like what I see well look at Michael Bloomberg okay that's a maybe so would anybody be discussing Mike Bloomberg gaps in his fifties five billion dollar fortune of course not by any has been in the debate yet the next week is the debate in Las Vegas very few voters have seen him almost nobody outside of New York city's at a chance to vote with his name on the ballot but he's getting tons of media the tension so that is going to be an interesting one to watch Bloomberg does this is Mike Bloomberg I'm not quite sure where this was but he was at some rally one of his race go he's traveling all all over the country he's going to all the the super Tuesday states as states yeah this is Bloomberg going after Donald Trump at a recent rally somebody said you know that he's.

"Visit Saint Pete Clearwater dot com this is All Things Considered from NPR news I'm Mary Louise Kelley and I'm Elsa Chang president trump's former White House counsel don McGann must comply with a congressional subpoena and testify before lawmakers that is according to a ruling today from a federal judge in Washington DC and PR justice correspondent Ryan Lucas has been following this case and joins us now Hey Ryan okay so can you just back up for a moment and remind all of us what was this case about so remember don again was White House counsel in till about a year ago around October twenty eighteen so he was in the president's inner circle during most of the special counsel's rush investigation and according to Robert Miller's final were report McGann was a key witness for investigators and provided them with testimony about what he had witnessed that includes several instances in which again has first hand knowledge of several things that the president did that are considered a potential acts of obstruction is John of of justice such as the president telling began to remove Robert Muller right that makes me again someone who house Democrats really want to hear from sure they subpoenaed him this spring for testimony the White House blocked McGann from appearing they cited a justice department office of legal counsel opinion that top presidential advisers are absolutely immune from testifying before Congress the house Judiciary Committee filed suit in federal court in Washington DC in August to challenge that and to try to force began to show up into stock okay that brings us to today's ruling so what did the judge today have to say well the headline here is that judge could trying to brown Jackson has sided with Congress and says that McGann must appear and testify before the house committee she says that as a matter of law presidential aides and that includes the top White House lawyer must appear before Congress if compelled to do so she said in her ruling that this means that such aids cannot defy a congressional subpoena on the basis of absolute testimonial immunity even if the president for whom they work or worked demands that response would simply she said this quote the primary take weight the past two hundred and fifty years of recorded history is that presidents are not kings not kings not kings so this is good news for Congress but in there is about here the judge says the bomb again must appear the judge is not saying that began has to answer every question that the committee asks in other words the judges not ruling that began must speak about matters that are covered by executive privilege which might be stuff that the house would be interested got it okay so meanwhile the house it's in the middle of this whole impeachment inquiry the administration has tried to block several senior administration officials from testifying cleaning acting white has right of staff Mick Mulvaney former deputy national security adviser trials Kupperman what could this ruling today mean for house Democrats trying to get those senior White House officials to show up and testify well in theory this ruling could provide political cover for individuals who want to testify want to come forward and do so that said there's no indication at this point that Mulvaney or Kupperman or it former national security adviser John Bolton for that matter really do want to testify copper men for example he sued the house and the administration over his congressional subpoena the house ultimately withdrew that's been about government's case in federal court here in Washington remains the house wants him to abide by today's ruling in the began cases but governments lawyer has said that the government situation is different because he focused on national security and therefore it's different than the case of McGann which was as White House lawyer so that maybe the exact brand has broader discretion to resist subpoena a special cut out right okay so do you think we're going to be seeing dom again the former White House counsel show up anytime soon and testify before Congress not anytime soon no the justice department says it plans to appeal today's ruling that will kick this up to the to the DC circuit in any decision there would likely be be appealed as well this is a this is a separation of powers question so the stakes here are high neither Congress nor the White House is likely to let this one go and while the Judiciary Committee said that wants to hear from again as part of the impeachment inquiry the man who is leading that Adam Schiff said today that his committee is drawing up its report for the recent public hearings in closed door testimony on Ukraine he expects that report to be delivered shortly after thanksgiving so we'll see it's unclear whether against him going to play any role in the impeachment inquiry there may not be any time that's NPR's Ryan Lucas thanks so much right thank you more people are calling for White House advisors Steven Miller to go civil rights activists and Democrats are demanding his resignation after the publication of leaked emails in which Miller promoted the ideas of white nationalists but the White House is standing behind Miller and Republicans have been largely silent and here's Joe rose looks at how the line of what's acceptable in public discourse has shifted when torch wielding demonstrators took to the streets in Charlottesville two years ago they were invoking the great replacement conspiracy theory popular in white nationalists circles that immigrants and people of color are seeking to annihilate the white race sometime twenty forty twenty forty five what should become a model that sounds like a replacement to me Terry Taylor is the editor of American renaissance or Amaran website that's widely considered a white supremacist publication though Taylor himself rejects the label uncle muscle a rich realist about someone who understands that the races are not identical and and I also describe myself as a white Taylor promotes ideas that are widely considered racist and cloaks them in the language of science for example he talks about black people having higher levels of testosterone and therefore being predisposed to commit more violent crimes an idea that simply has no scientific support yes there are patterns of dozens but this is now something that's considered a huge hateful tub states Taylor's website is not well known outside of white nationalist circles but has found an audience in White House adviser Steven Miller he has recommended articles on Amaran and another white nationalists site called V. there we know this because the Southern Poverty Law Center has uncovered hundreds of emails that Miller wrote to a reporter at Breitbart news before he worked in the White House the latest batch released today shows Miller pushing a supposedly between immigrants and rising crime another idea that's been debunked the leaked emails suggest that the political dynamic around race and immigration has shifted to include ideas that were once beyond the pale I fear that the line of what is normal is moving I need a doctor it's the leadership conference on civil rights in Washington group sent a letter last week signed by fifty civil rights organizations calling on the White House to fire Miller more than a hundred members of Congress all Democrats have also called for his resignation I don't think that there's any way to look at those emails and to look at his own track record and not be profoundly disturbed about what we are allowing at the highest level of government today in a White House where turnover is high Miller is one of the few staffers who've been there from the beginning and continues to be a key architect of the president's hardline immigration policies the White House is defending saying Miller is opposed to bigotry in all its forms but most Republicans have been silent yes it's horrible Mike Murphy is a Republican strategist who's worked for Mitt Romney and John McCain and a self described never Trumper the Republican Party is hi jacked by trump into this crude nativist populism and drags like Miller running wild in positions of power not that long ago promoting the views of white nationalists would have hurt your career in Washington earlier this year Republican congressman Steve king of Iowa said in an interview he wondered why the terms white nationalist and white supremacist are considered offensive he was quickly "Now a Saint Pete resident. I am today made it official for you had the move today. Go off without a hitch pretty much. Yeah. Actually, it went very smoothly. My dad flew into town to help because I cannot be trusted with course with big activities like this on my own on. Rehired movers to or you hire movers. I figured, maybe you just force night additive, every no or convince a couple of guys come over. And, and how are you the tight talked to them after that? And that's not are you the type that literally sits on the couch directing things as they're moving the couch out of the apartment and into the moving truck? I didn't do that specifically, but my dog gives me an easy out because, you know, she doesn't really like new people a ton right? Right. New small. She's generally in the way, I have to hold her the. That's the two can't lift anything. You've got to sit there with the dog. Unfortunately, makes a good job and we're really quick. So. Yep. Made the made the move across the bridge, the drive in today was the most stressful part real. So this is the first time you're coming in from new same time. Yeah. I've never done the drive on. I, I laughed at like five you a little later, than you usually at five, and I got here on five forty. So, yeah, it took a while longer than I'm used to. But I have a plan don't worry. It involves a moped and a jet ski I've decided what I have to do. I am the by jet ski and I have to buy a moped the moped I will leave at hula bay. Okay. We'll drive my car over to somewhere in Saint Pete, where I will have a jetski docked jet across the bay from the Saint Pete side to the Tampa side, all jet to hula bay were, then I will park. My jet ski, I will get on my moped. That is parked at hula hula bay into our station here at iheart down Gandhi. So instead of leaving earlier, that's the plan. Just ride my debts. That's a creative plan to say the least. And look, I'm sitting in stopped traffic on the bridge, which is I it's like seven miles from where I live now to hear I took forty minutes. And I'm watching these boats, and these jet skis, and people just enjoying themselves on the bay going a lot a lot quicker than I'm going by. You're getting your quicker if you on one of those scooters, I might have to just get a canoe. If I can't afford a jet ski at I'll be rolling in here. I scowl I think this is a big moment for Saint Pete, because you were moving one way or another, and you chose to go across the bay because you felt like it was more your vibe. Yes. We're seeing a lot of that lately, your people going on. There you are. Don't be surprised if the, the masses are flux, where Morgan goes may follow coming up this evening. The DNC has laid out how the first two democratic presidential debates are going to go. We're going to fill you in on that. I've got some things grinding my gears including when do you not though, I always do people taking selfies at sacred sites. Inappropriate a little bit too mazing that this has to be said, I'll tell you about that. And we have our only in Florida stories the dumbest, and craziest Florida men and women from the past week, we'll get to all of that. In a bid first up this evening in a Barrasso night for the raise last night, and it wasn't because of anything on the field there, even their attendance numbers, which were good last night. Another power outage delayed a game at Tropicana field. So this broke during the show last night, we were talking about it and the initial assumption was because there were some storms in the area that it had to have been lightning or storm related and we're looking at the radar and radar didn't look at band, there was a little bit of yellow going over that area. So I figured that must have been well apparently that wasn't the case. Something different. It wasn't the same thing that happens on may twelve that was a mother's day afternoon game against the Yankees. It was delayed forty three minutes because of an outage caused by a failure of the main switch into the building different this time. So not that not a main switch failure. Not storm related. Want to guess any idea? I don't know. Like I have no idea that you would never guess a bird's nest. Was the cause of the power outage of bird's nest hell it delayed the rays game against the Los Angeles angels for thirty six minutes and left fifteen thousand fans at the Trump in the dark. So here's what happened dark. It was pitch. Black totally like really scary. This is one of those only in Florida stories, a nest inside the sixteenth street substation three blocks away from Tropicana field fell, according to Duke Energy. They said the bird's nest coming in contact with our equipment likely caused sparks, or a flare and that left almost thirteen thousand customers without power for three minutes inside Tropicana field. Things went completely dark pitch. Black in there and happened right in the middle of an back to not like in the middle of innings or you can kind of play it off a little bit, or a little less inconvenience right in the middle of combat the power outage led to fans turning on their cellphone. Flashlights to help the place up electric city retirement that about five minutes, but the team waited for word from local police and fire authorities before proceeding with the game play finally resumed at around eight fifty six apparently. I didn't know this. I mean you guess you would guess that animals caused power outages on occasion. But apparently, they do quite a bit of damage to the electric grid, leading to thousands of outages each year. I would have. No, I wouldn't have guessed that at all. I mean, they're always up on the power lines around squirrels caused the most damage. Yes. Okay. That is the one, I would have maybe thought snakes raccoons birds and other animals have also been responsible for power outages. To me. I'm sorry. If a bird's nest falling at a substation causes a power outage. Yeah. I'm I'm very confused, there things we can do to the infrastructure to prevent that, because that seems like every right. Very delicate situation. Pterodactyl. Ause that big bird laying brick eggs in the nest. I mean, come on, when play resumed fans who remained throughout the delay were offered buy one, get one free on soda and beer purchases through last call. So that's not a bad deal. Yeah. He's got a little something for hanging in there, of course. Know attendance has been such an issue with the raise all season long. They get fifteen thousand fans in the Trump for a game finally got the place not packed, but a decent crowd for Thursday night. This was one of those five dollar deal. Took a deal game sold out. They sold out this one five thousand. Yep. They finally get fifteen thousand people in their power outage. Thirty six minutes. And as we are, are the birds. Okay. I don't know. Well, the bird's nest has got to be destroyed. I.

How the Expos can finally return to Montreal

"The Montreal Expos never went away. Expos take the field here at Olympic stadium in Montreal the second game before game series, the Expos left. They left Montreal. They became the Washington nationals. They went off to play baseball in DC while Olympic stadium. Their former home sat empty and decaying the teams famous mascot UP even went to work for the Montreal Canadians because even furry orange monsters gotta eat. The idea of the Expos of a major league team in the heart of Montreal the modern monument to a sport with deep history in the province that never entirely vanished. There were always a few people some of them loudly and most of them very quietly keeping the fires burning mostly they were dreaming. But sometimes they were planning for the Tim's eventual return, and somehow that return might happen. The sport of baseball has changed. The city of Montreal has changed the business of sport in general has changed an unbelievably as cities around North America. Celebrate baseball's opening day today. It is beginning to seem like the team that never really went away is suddenly very close to coming back. How did this happen? How real is it? What does baseball mean to Montreal to Quebec or to Canada? And we'll those fans who refused to abandon their team. Even after their team, abandoned them finally get their happy ending. I'm Jordan heath Rawlings. And this is the big story. Jeff Blair is the host of the Jeff Blair show on sports net. Five ninety the fan. He is the co host of the lead podcast with Stephen Brent knows a lot about baseball in Montreal because he covered the Expos for the zette for about a decade and for the global mail after that so it's opening day to day. There's no baseball in Montreal today. Not yet. But Montrealers are very excited this week. Why is that? Well, I think they should be excited. I mean, I covered the Expos from eighty eight to ninety seven on a full-time basis. And I was there when when the team ended up leaving town part of a franchise swap that saw the Expos go to Washington and saw the ownership of the Boston Red Sox in my and Miami Marlins change as part of the process at that time. There was very little support from the local business community. There were there was a very small collection of minority partners who were in for maybe million two million dollars a year, very small. They had been effectively bought out in a leveraged buyout by Jeffrey Loria was a New York art dealer who came in and saw that I think at the end of the day ended up putting in about twenty five million US of his own money into that team and that up buying it. And then when he sold the Marlins that was for one point three billion any that's but at that time. Time when when the Expos left the Commissioner was committed at the time, but ceiling was committed to bringing baseball back to Washington. It was it was a legacy thing for him. The Expos has I mentioned had no local corporate support. There was no political support. I mean, they didn't have a political champion in the mayor's office. They they had no political champions provincially as a matter of fact, when you know, I think when you talk to people who are involved in sort of the post Charles Bronfman area era, the expo is one of the things they'll say is that they were affectively screwed by p q government. There was just there were there was there was there was no reason to keep the Expos and much there. There is a plan to build a new ballpark was completely stillborn. So there was absolutely no reason for the Expos to stay in town. And of course, attendance it had had decreased while fast forward. Now, you have a new Commissioner rob Manfred. Who also even though he's only been inter for few years. Just thinking of his legacy and his legacy is in. Internationalizing the game. You've seen baseball games. Played in Japan. Baseball will play a game at Lord's Cricket Ground. This year the Red Sox and the Yankees. And rob Manfred has said that he thinks Montreal is a viable baseball market. He also thinks Mexico City's viable baseball. Mark in Montreal itself. You have a really well-funded core ownership group, Stephen Bronfman of Claridge investments, the son of Charles Bronfman and Mitch Garber who's kind of a fascinating guy. Mitch when I first met him. He's a lawyer his uncle was a lawyer who represented a lot of Expos players in and around Montreal Tim Raines, he keeps kind of a fixer for them. And I I mean that in a positive way Mitch also hosted a radio show late night. I mean, he was a dabbler really talented guy. He is now president of Caesars acquisitions international, essentially lives in Monaco. And he's on the French CBC French language version of dragons. Dan. He's he's he's a very he is shaker and mover. He was I believe I don't know if he's still as he was CEO of Cirque du Soleil at one point he's got a lot of money scuttle resume. He's got and he's and he's and he's a billionaire. He and Stephen Bronfman both known each other for while that they have they've kept the dream of baseball in Montreal alive. They done it very quietly as is their manners people. They're both fairly quiet, quiet. People very quietly. They had Denny co dare when he was mayor of Montreal who is a huge baseball. I mean, he's an he's a nut. But he's a huge baseball fan. And he you know, he was show up at every baseball event. The all star game the World Series it show up at the Commissioner's office. He he'd go to the Expos or the Blue Jays games every spring spring training just to kind of fly the flag and lobby for and lobby for a team to return to Montreal and the provincial government, both the liberal government. And the new government are very the very comfortable with the idea of entertaining, some sort of public private partnership. So what we have now is. Commissioner who views internationalizing the game as an important part of his legacy. We have people in Montreal ton of money. What we don't have as a team revolt park. Obviously we have Olympic state, and we don't have a team or ballpark. Well, this is going on the tap. The Tampa Bay rays have been have been trying for twenty twenty-five years to get a ballpark built. They play at Tropicana field in Saint Pete. So horrible ballpark that, you know, their their attendance is routinely the worst in the league somewhat bizarrely. They have one of the best TV contracts in the league. But their attendance is generally pretty poor. They have attempted to build a ballpark in different parts of Tampa. The the providence Saint Pete right now is that Tampa's where the growth there is in the area east of Tampa north Tampa. That's where the growth is. Unfortunately to get the Saint Pete you base give a choice of two bridges. So during rush hour access to Saint Pete from Tampa is essentially it's the worst place you could imagine in the region right ballpark last year. There seemed to be finally at least for the people in Tampa. There seemed to be memento. Adam behind building a ballpark in ebor city, which is to to the eastern part of the city. It's an old old warehouse area. And I I hadn't been paying attention to it at baseball's winter meetings or something happened it collapsed. I don't know what I don't know the exact majority just collapsed. So the winter meetings in baseball where everybody in baseball gathers media general managers owners, it's it's kinda like a swap shop trades or made sometimes free agents or talked about and all that there was a news conference call by Stuart Sternberg with the owner of the race and his president, which if you've got something you wanna float as if you've got a trial balloon you wanna float in baseball. You do it at the winter meetings because everybody who writes talks thinks about baseball is there, right? They held a news conference. You know, blah, blah, blah stadium issue in Tampa. We still have a lease at Tropicana field the twenty twenty four twenty until twenty twenty-seven dot that up. But and this was was was very subtle. And I probably wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't been tipped off about this by a raise official the raise owner. Said listen, we're not getting a park built in tap. We do have a lease right now until twenty twenty seven Saint Petersburg prime real estate in terms of building condos mixed business residential area. I mean, it is a it is a gold mine for raising tax. If there's a crappy building city there's a crappy building sitting on it that we're going to be gone from an in in ten years. So what he did what Stuart Sternberg did was he kind of flipped it a bit. And said, here's the thing. Yeah. We could be here twenty twenty seven. But man, if you guys get an offer between now and then for this parcel a land who knows what the economy's going to look like in twenty twenty seven right? Could be better could be worse. So centrally what he said is. Hey, if you guys get a good offer for this. You know, I'd be willing to cut you deal here to to to help you finish this off. Please. Let me go, please. Let me go. So well that's going on, you know, the folks in Montreal again, very quietly quietly, very diligently. Claridge investments is involved in purchasing land in Griffin town part of Montreal. Which is. Near the peel basin. It's it's kind of an area that's undergoing gentrification. So you've got that. Now, you've got a Tampa Bay rays owner. Who knows he's not gonna stay there? Now, you've got people with money in Montreal in a ballpark. You've got a Commissioner who is committed to this one of the things the tappan though as well, as in addition to all that sort of falling in place, one of the things rob Manfred, the Commissioner says look I realized the reality of the situation now is I'm not going to ask you to build a ballpark. And then give you a team he cited Quebec, cities, and example, building an arena. No NHL team. You said not gonna do that. I just need see the plans. I didn't need the shovel in the ground show me the financing show me the plans haven't nailed down. And we'll try to get a team in. Montreal. Stuart Sternberg owns the raise lives in New York. So what kind of happened in the past couple of months? People started to realize well who says Stuart Sternberg has to sell the raise or Montreal has to get an expansion team. What a Stuart Sternberg said moved the race to Montreal. I live in New York. It's not a big flight. Maybe. I wanna be a majority partner. But maybe I want twenty percent. Maybe bell media comes in for twenty percent char or Stephen Bronfman and Mitch Garber have thirty percent each and away we go. So all these things have kind of have fallen in place if you'd asked me for years ago. I would've said there's no chance of baseball returning to much you're on my lifetime. Now, I'd be stunned. If there isn't a major league team in Montreal within the next six or seven years five years might be a little tight, but just sort of planning this thing out of that. I can see baseball back in Montreal in six seven years at the outside. I'll be surprised if it isn't

I'm telling you, it looks like it looks like the Pete peer, and it's going to confuse everybody who comes to town. Well, how about they just not worry about a logo and get the damn you're done. Now. That would be nice. There's really nothing else about it that I mind. I mean, I the font is cool. But if the S is going to look like that then you have to scrap the whole thing we we should put up a poll. Okay. Can we put up? Do. We do. We have that capability you. Okay. We should put up a poll because I guarantee you when this poll when the results come back. We'll we could check it throughout the show. But there's no doubt in my mind that the majority of listeners will agree. It looks more. Like the Pete in Saint Pete to finish reading what he said though, that makes it even snoot ear, okay? Here's here's the the statement from the deputy mayor we're creating a place that in one lifetime. A person may come to first with their parents and play in a playground and grow up going to all of their lives. Maybe it might be the site of their first concert that maybe might be a place where they become engaged. It might be a place where they get married and then bring their own children. And so we wanted something that's timeless. That really transcends. The ark of the lives of the people. Here can't be a break to communicate that will grow with this city as its people will as they do every time I see the logo. I feel good. What what's going to happen? I'm telling you ten years from now art deco style is going to be out. Like, it's it's not even going to be a font that you can get on Microsoft Word anymore, and they're going to be left with this dopey logo still hanging up there. And they're gonna have to change it other concerts at the Pierre. I didn't even know that. Well, the concerts are gonna have to change the location that they list to the pier. If they're going to have them there. The I think it's going to be really nice. I get them to be like a very new change for them. So maybe that's why they're trying to do a riskier logo trying to be hip. I was excited for the peer now, not as much you're not going anymore. I might just completely just like with sparkman wharf once they came over that dopey name for instead of channel side sparkman Warf, you're going to be a break, by the way. I just moved there. And I love the wharf. I've already walked there every that was my point when they changed the name. You're not gonna call. It sparked more if you're gonna call it the war, you're right because the full name makes no sense. I can see you hanging outside the peer like boycotting boycott. Logo. Outrageous. We're going gonna we've got a forty on the website WFL, news dot com. Just go to the AM Tampa Bay page to check it out coming up next. We'll talk to NBC News Radio reporter bills for now. I think it's Konia. No, Lymington Lymington. I appreciate been there. I have a restaurant. So yeah. If you're looking for a place to to at Hampton Northampton, which has a nice little restaurant. Lawrence has a nice restaurant. Most of these tend to be breakfast places. But that's good breakfast and lunch. But now, let's go elsewhere here. Let's go to Kansas and see here. Scott nethon showing in Kansas. Really? And I know for airports at least in Kansas with restaurants in one one in Oklahoma. Well, your your homework assignment than David is to submit at least one of them to this to the system. So there's there's a link here. Yeah. Okay. There's a link here where you can submit an airport and eatery. All right. And so okay. So so nothing in Kansas. Let's look at nothing in Florida either. Are you guys have your work cut out for you even have to fix this? All right 'cause I happen to know there's a restaurant at Seib ring. That's a good restaurant. There's a restaurant is your store restaurant at at Venice. Yes. Yes. Witted? At. Oh, witted we ones. Yeah. Over at Saint Pete couple years. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Yep. There's that one. And I encourage everyone to help populated here. This is a project that. Surpises blossoms in fades away for a few years until somebody else. Picks up the ball and starts it all over again. In my in my time doing this work. I've seen at least three books done with this and one of them done in a way that you could update it with new pages the way you date your approach plates because that's that was the problem for some of the other books was boy, they'd publish this big book with all this great research in it. And then get phone calls from folks saying well since you talked to about this that restaurant is closed because it would take them to three years to get the book, right? Yeah. Well. Much better idea. No, I hear now that there's this new thing called the internet that can be dynamically updated. Are you talking about that infamous I o t India Oscar Changle? Okay. No. It's just net. Airplane geeks? Let's airplane to dot com. Eat at the airport all one word, although I'm sure if you just Google airplane geeks airport restaurants or something like that you're finding we'll put Lincoln in the show notes as well. This is a cool project. I applaud these folks and airplane gigs has been around for a long time. I'm optimistic that they will it will not suffer the fate that David describes it will it will keep going. Well, you know, if any of them wander through Kentucky there three state parks in Kentucky that have runways all of which have resorts and restaurants. See, okay. We got we got everybody needs to not only is a homework assignment for jevon. Dave and me, I'll do one to one thing. That's always been difficult to to disseminate through this through a system. Like, this is the seasonal nature. Some of these restaurants. You know, your island in Virginia in the middle of the Chesapeake has some wonderful restaurants. But this time of year, they're shut down. Now, sometimes information filters through. Other times, it doesn't it's still a great place to visit even.

Clear on the Salman Springer NewsRadio nine seventy WFL L. a. now transmitting, to south Tampa on FM one zero two point nine FM We have a lot of local stories to get to this morning we're going to have. An update on, the Clearwater. Stand your ground case that we will tell, you about also this Raymond James story I know this interest you in particular Aaron outrageous, outrageous outrageous Moakler I just like I understand like when people go. To a football game they want to enjoy a smoke here in there after a drink we gotta step. Through exactly so, you can't. You can't smoke anywhere on the grounds of, Raymond James anyway Sins are anything what about. Outside the stay outside the stadium. You can right I would hope in the, parking lot come up to me and you know and friends while. We're partying because you. Know. The the little. Vaporizer pens the e cigarettes can't even have those in there Those sometimes the puffs, of smoke that come from those whatever it is Lot of lies I it's it's. It's insane it looks ridiculous to me I'm not even sad about that but like sometimes, I'll think someone has a rice Krispy treat. And get around the corner and it's just a giant, cloud of life To. Me it's less about it impacting me in any way I just think it looks stupid, when it's this giants puff of what is Those crazy Researches. Those. Obnoxious okay those aren't the ones I'm talking. About, cigarettes yeah the things people use to get off. The cigarettes a. Believe me I understand the smell of cigarette is gross for some people if you're used, to it if you're going out to an event where, people party you should have a section one segment section where somebody can go to don't go by. That section if you're not if you're not into the cloud, of smoke stay, the I I could see doing, a section maybe What, parking what are, you going to run and keep smoking But. No more they they put their. Foot down so we'll get we'll get to that story later. I wonder, if people are going to be annoyed about that What's to kneeling and not being able to smoke People drink beers in all seriousness when people, are drinking beers and? We'll get into this later, what do they do sometimes when they drink beer they have a smoke even together smoke Absolutely, it's like sex and smoking right absolutely To. Have. Sex Sandwich if you Jewish And watch TV. The trifecta altogether We also have no you who's gonna join. Us in the seven o'clock hour there's this USF football stadium study USF plays. Their games at Raymond James stadium there's been a lot of talk to maybe USF. Will have their own stadium soon doesn't sound like that's going to be the case at least for for quite a while Look I I think the Ray j. part is fine my question to Noah was and he didn't have a great answer because we had him on about this on PM Tampa Bay earlier in the week was what is the transportation. Situation like because one of the things? That came up is that sometimes Raymond James stadium isn't as filled up as they'd like it to be? Because a lot, of students at USF, can get there and USF is becoming more of a campus where people live. On campus some people from out of state than on the car so what. Is the shuttle transportation situation could that help get more people from the campus to. The game days to bolster the attendance on campus so you know around the surrounding parts Apartments that's what I did, when I went to USF was I lived off campus, on apartments right around, right around the university so so if you're going to keep. It at Raymond James stadium and you want to. Get more people there is that a way that you. Could improve things untold eventually they do get. A, stadium on campus maybe a little but like it's more the inconvenience, of having, to go from Fowler wherever I never that inconvenient when, I went there we? Went to, all the games it wasn't that big of a deal but. I, but I could see if there are ways. Where you can shuttle more people there quickly and easily than maybe that could help a little bit you never gonna fill up Raymond James stadium at a US football game or the? Kids? Could just wake up from their dorms walk down the street put, on a pair of crocs and go to the game let's let's take it one step at a time let's make it easy as possible for these college students that's what we're trying to do coming up next we'll cover some of the top stories. Of the day right now news channel? Eight meteorologists Lee span joins us with today's forecast Lee what can we expect you know small rain chance? This morning mainly along the coast and I hesitated to put the rain chance back at fifty, percent but I went, ahead because there's still plenty of moisture rally thought it would. Be a little bit lower today but so put. The rain chance back at fifty percent there will be. Some scattered downpours through the afternoon but I.
