Abortion Advocates Riot Outside Old St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC

"I hope you can watch the show at Salem news channel, our new platform, as well as listen on this great radio station to the Mike Gallagher show because once in a while, just describing it isn't quite enough. Sometimes you have to see this with your own eyes. Now I'm gonna warn you, it will burn your eyes. You'll never be able to unsee this, but this was the scene outside Saint Patrick's cathedral over the weekend. He's got a baby wrapped up in like pink blankets. She is hanging out all over the place and so that we that hold her topic and cover much up. This is like a pop right out. And she's got a baby, a baby doll. But she's ripping apart. And she's doing this in front of a group of young men and women who are praying. For the lives of the unborn. Now she's pulling the babies out from between her legs. Jumping up in there and now she's shoving her out, turn it off. Turn it off, my eyes are bleeding. Can't take any more. The police finally came and ushered her away. Back to wherever she came from. Back to whatever rock she came from out from under.

Does Eric Want to Write More Children's Books in the Future?

"Do you want to write more children's books in the future? Actually, this is funny. I prefer to write more children's books in the past. Because then they would already be written and there's no work. But so I don't really want to write more children's books in the future. I want to write more children's books in the past. But you can only write about the present. I can't. You know what? That's true. But I guess the future eventually becomes the present if you wait long enough. So that's my way of dithering because the real answer is yes, I do want to write more children's books. In fact, this is kind of weird. I have written children's books in the past that have not been published. So I will be publishing some children's books in the future. I did a whole series for kids, kind of like my squanto book called the great cloud series. I have yet to publish that. I wrote the story of Saint Patrick. I wrote the story of Eric little chariots of fire. I wrote the story of Jackie Robinson, I wrote the trying to think, who else did I I'm pretty sure I just did a whole bunch. Some of the ones that I did in the 7 women and 7 men books I did as kids books. But anyway, the point is, yes, I do, and there are many other children's books that I want to write. So the short answer to, do you want to write more children's books in the future? Yes.

"The NASA minute. With Kevin mason. Every year on Saint Patrick's Day, I don't think green beer, I think corned beef. And when my mind goes to corned beef, it goes to a Ruben sandwich. I know I've talked about this before. It's been a few years though, that search for a good Reuben sandwich here in Nashville. I mean, it's sad when Arby's does their room in every so often. And I think about going and buying one. And I usually buy one during their season when they've got the Reuben. It's never that good. But Rubens are just so hard to find in the south. As we all know what corn beef may be something celebrated in Ireland or in the UK, the Reuben sandwich a cousin to the corned beef sandwich is really an American creation. When you add the sauerkraut and a thousand island dressing or the Russian dressing or however, you make yours. I think it was created in Nebraska back in the 20s or 30s. It's an American creation. It's an American sandwich, and I don't know why I love a Reuben so much. I don't know how long it's been since I first had one, probably going back to the 1970s, maybe. I'll keep searching every day as he went on a menu and all of these try at once, but sadly, the search for a good Reuben continues.

NYC Mayor Eric Adams Speaks at the Funeral of Officer Jason Rivera

"Officer Jason Rivera, 22 year old cop gunned down trying to do his job responding to a call last weekend. There's something about the murder of these two cops in New York that is gripped the country. Here's moments ago, mayor Eric Adams at Saint Patrick's cathedral speaking at this massive massive funeral, which does my heart good to see so many people come out and pay tribute to this fallen hero, including the newly elected mayor, Eric Adams. In today's the morning for all of you, the tragic death of your brother in blue uniform is a stark reminder of what is on the line every day. And I'm here sitting next to governor, the state of New York. And senator Chuck Schumer, another elected, we are committed to giving you the resource to do your jobs and ensure that we can keep the people of this city safe. It takes courage to put on the uniform and the badge to answer the call to serve the cause of justice in every sense of the road. Carlo Dolan, this is a biblical moment, scritches scripted states. Greater love have no one than this. That a man lay down his life for his friends. That is what Jason did. He gave his life defending his fellow New Yorkers. That greater love, unites us here today standing side by side.

Can Netflix help solve the Isabella Stewart Gardner art heist?

"Now on the eighteenth of march nineteen ninety stole thirteen works of art including masterpieces by rembrandt and vermeer from the isabella stewart gardner museum in boston massachusetts. The extraordinary story of that night and thirty years of investigation and intrigue that followed the subject of a new four part series on netflix. Could this is a robbery. I spoke to jeff siegel producer of the series about the greatest art host in history. Jeff to begin with. Let's set the scene. What happened in march. Nineteen ninety at the golden museum in boston. So saint patrick's day night in boston march seventeenth into the eighteenth. Nineteen ninety two men dressed as police officers. Ring the doorbell for the security desk at the isabella stewart gardner museum and are buzzed in pretty quickly by the guard on duty and without much effort are able to lower the guard away from the security desk away from the only panic button leading to the outside world and are able to can him have him call down the other security guard who is on the rounds and you know in just a matter of minutes. Basically taking control over the whole museum fairly effortlessly it seems like The protocol was that that it shouldn't be that easy but it turned out to be that easy and the two men obviously turn out to. Police officers handcuffed the the two guards and tie them up down in the basement of the museum before going on and eighty one minute excursion through the museum and stealing thirteen pieces of art including a few masterworks. That are just unbelievably priceless. A rembrandt storm on the sea of galilee. Another rembrandt ladies and gentlemen in black. The vermeer one only thirty four thirty five in the world. The concert as well as the one of the more curious ones being the matinee stolen from the blue room downstairs the shea tour tony as well as a few other a few other items that are not necessarily of such great value monetarily or as well known which is part of. What's kind of confounding about what what was stolen there. They stole a five day. Gos- sketches but also a chinese who and the final from an opole jahic flag which are two items. That just don't a lot of people don't really seem to fit in with everything else that was stolen

San Diego Enters the Red Tier

"Welcome to southern california real estate report. This is bob mcguire. Daniel wise come into from san diego. California reopening sandiego reopened a red tier san diego. Right pretty exciting. So so what does this mean really for us so it. There's there's some right there's some honest it doesn't mean anything but i'm not gonna sit inside and san diego weather right now and other at a restaurant but you know what it does mean that the world i was opening up restaurants precise operate at twenty five percent capacity inside museums could operate inside a twenty five percent capacity. Haven't been very perk is open so all in all the fun things seaworld you know. I don't know what to say about seaworld. But so they offer operate again inside. I think they've been able to operate outside museums but now they can go back to operating inside right in time for our summer. Tourism season right and saint patrick's day right so which this is going to post just the day after saint patrick's day but it was a big deal so going into the red tier for that particular day. It was big deal. So i go to this really like super great little deli down in down by san diego state. Right and it's it's a real popular one. I don't know if you've ever been to it. it's It's it's like a little jewish deli called What is it called. I cannot remember the name right now. i can't believe. I'll have to look it up. I'll post at d. d. and it's awesome. It's like really authentic really great and it was packed. Last night. I went last night to pick up dinner and i do weight and extra forty five minutes to get my dinner and it was to go do irish jews in common like well. I think it's just because it's a deli. They just do super good corned. Beef was one of those things. So it's a really but it's a really popular. So i think that the delhi site that the jewish shelley more like east coast so they're really really good. It's just i mean. does that sound bad. I don't. I don't know i so. So it's a really like it's it's it's like an authentic east coast deli. That's yeah i don't know what's funny as delays even growing up with a jewish family. I don't go to delhi. So i really don't know like a bad east coast deli from sally so it's i think it's a lot different. It's a lot. There are a lot better and so they have much better light quality of meats. And everything like that. So it's just the one in del mar really popular same thing. East coast are west coast elliott. That's like an east coast one and that is also a very well known really good jewish delis so that the east coast jewish. He's known as being really good. Yeah and so so. That's why it's not like it's not like It's not like a religious thing or anything but it's it's always funny that i hear so milton's and are the two big ones here and i'm sure milton's was super pac too but So it's really good and and it was packed. It was packed packed. Like i've never seen it. That packed and crazy and spent there. Because i was there to get dinner together because i wanted corn beef. Because i'm an irish guy and it was the whole outside was completely packed and there was like a line like out the door around the building practically to get in and that was to order it and you had to wait an hour to order it. So it's so. I mean clearly like the red tier like people were getting out. Yeah i feel like people having getting out if you like. The more and more people are that are getting vaccinated especially has kind of elderly generation. It's getting vaccinated. You're gonna see a resurgence and that's a really good point. Because last night it was a lot of older people. Like a lot of people that you wouldn't think would be going out. We're definitely out who fully vaccinated talking to. They're like oh it feels so good to be vaccinated and you know. Yeah we're we're we're ready to get out again and people were talking like in line that this was the first time they've been out in a long time so i think it's good the combination of the vaccine's rolling out at the same time that obviously that's having an effect on the numbers here they're saying that our numbers are really good So the the numbers are. I think we've now gone to six cases per hundred thousand. I don't remember exactly what we're we're so it is saying in here and this by the way was out of the. Ut okay so union tribune and they are saying nine of the other county so it looks like nine. Other counties moved into red to in those were monterey riverside sacramento santa barbara center to hema to lori and ventura And then that just leaves eleven of the california's fifty eight counties in the most restrictive purple tier still the the cases. They're saying have gone to six point. Eight per one hundred thousand residence so they took last week's case rate which was eight point. Eight where at six point eight. And i think they took like a combined total and that got us just over the mark to go to read. So that's good so we keep having our case count drop to which is which is good and i think a lot of that has to do with vaccines right. We're just not spreading fast and it's starting to slow down so hopefully this'll be. The weird thing is in europe. They're kinda getting so talked to one of our clients say who lives in france and She was saying that you know like where she is. She's around knees and it's become more restrictive there so they become more lockdown.

"The with kevin mason. I have a little bit of blood in me. I'm not one of those who gets all excited about saint patrick's day. I have no desire to drink. Green beer eat corn beef and cabbage. But of course what always has amazed me is the whole myth. That's around saint patrick's day and how people deal with it. Things like the myth of saint patrick himself or more importantly corned beef and cabbage where they say of course corned. Beef and cabbage isn't a meal that you'd have on saint patrick's day in ireland. It was something that immigrants here started to eat. Because it was cheap corned beef in ireland wasn't necessarily cheap or easy to get a hold of even though they make it. They sold it to make money from when they got here. It was completely different. Regular beef was harder to get but beef was easier to obtain as was cabbage so corned beef and cabbage kind of became the meal that the irish and the jews had together when the immigration america. It's very fascinating to hear the story about saint patrick's day and corned beef and cabbage. And really you're not celebrating. Saint patrick by doing anything with corned beef and cabbage.

Businesses cashing in on spring breakers saint patrick's day partners and customers ready to move on. I wouldn't say we're really concerned about it right now. To be honest. I feel like it's pretty much tamed. Right now let mixed messaging on state. Reopenings confusing enough from top health official. We are going in the right directions. That's why i get so anxious. When i hear pulling back completely on public health measures like saying no more masks. No nothing like that. I mean that is a risky business when you do that. Risk or not reopening continues in states like texas where this week and mark the first one hundred percent capacity and no mask mandate under control. Expose everybody as an adult to be able to make their own decision. Now they should be forced in california los angeles starting their own reopening the city able to loosen rules after meeting their target of two million vaccinated in hard hit areas the us vaccination rate starting to take off saturday marking an all time record two point nine. Eight million americans receiving shots in arms in seattle the country's largest volunteer run sites now up and running able to vaccinate twenty two thousand people every day. We're going to be at the end of this soon. But i just want to emphasize every time. I say this we are so close. But we're not there yet progress. Nationwide massachusetts sounded pretty. Good famed cellist. Yo-yo ma celebrating his second shot as only he could joining nunes of americans. Now one step closer to this mix and morgan's with us morgan with the mask mandate lifted. What happens if texas numbers start to go back again. Built into this governor's order. Is it allowance for county leaders to reinstate some of those rules if cohen hospitalizations. Go up by more than fifteen percent over seven straight dates.

"To Saint Patrick's day he had the night nice words that I'm right now I I have those Felice leggings on yeah I will literally put these under my jeans a lot of people do you know and I got some good yeah those layers that makes a difference she's right she's right she also said that she said find a way to enjoy the winter snow shoeing is the easiest but she also likes to plug skiing she actually teaches women askew at highlands heels in the Bloomington I do not ski I have never even touched a ski okay ski I used to ski like I was on a league okay it like I race like giant slalom okay something happens after about the age of twenty five where I was like what are we doing the injury that was me and skateboarding like I skateboard right up until I was like twenty six I was like if you hurt yourself doing this all your coworkers will cloud like a sign like no way to do it that badly I went skiing even last year and I'm not bad right I'm not a bad skier but I just I took a tumble last year all right okay and I was like you know what I think may be over I don't need to injure myself I guess what I did that's how I used to enjoy the winter the most I do is I do take my kids letting on occasion yeah I keep thinking that we should do the snow shoeing I did game better winter gear because I've actually never been so sure yeah I haven't either and so do the how bout you pervert you got a very wintery family yeah yeah we actually just had a big winter are a post Christmas gate as a family that operate at parade ice garden right there and many apples nexus sculpture garden and it's got about another tradition we've been doing indoor it's indoors but you know we rent out the ice for an hour and all like twenty people show up to skate around play a quick pick up game of hockey and I don't do that I run the audio visual score board and I'm playing the two oh my god so as to control freedom and now only producing the same thing like you just talked about your holiday party did all the jobs like the genie running around out of his lamp like what I satisfy I'm here to plan ahead and that's called control freak so I history this tire interaction I have a plan for you all here's the play list that will be involved it was enhanced to hand that for it was so that it's the ice skating in an otherwise not really I I like sledding but probably the extent of what you'll see me on a hill I did get better winter gear for the two of us because I decided that I could not live here and think that that you don't know man no that's true but I also I remembered I got better stuff for my kids and I have some light is visible so I went taking him out because I'm like it's too cold yeah I got stuff right within a side to get myself but also might you can't I can't count it as being cold and tell us below thirty is when I decided it was a threshold I feel like you have to like drive in the snow and go as long as it's above this we need to go outside and play yeah I I agree with that and you should get out and do something I I have to tell you this so in my Christmas show which just wrapped within twenty dates around the entire Midwest this you recall that north country Christmas okay course there isn't a lot of different segments about like being indoors verses outdoors in a it was a very theatrical show so I had this whole bit in the middle of it I decided to write about I've done everything right I've jump out of planes and yells of the states have been fifteen countries I'm very lucky I'm blessed and I have amazing friends and family know crazy life right but there's one thing that I've never done like never now so showing is also but there's one seeing as in Minnesota slash North Dakota girl that I have never done in my entire life you probably won't even guess at some when we think with thing item ice skate no no angel no Donna okay no man not done that ice fishing I've never I've even done then I searching and I like summer fishing like I yeah in the summer I was given a license I've never been nice interested in the trees it is it's a lot of so many listeners is it's very like summer it's therapeutic lots of sitting with it Amtrak warming like my you're very good at that already yeah I can do that if you can hold a rod they just prop it up and hope that the fish doesn't bullet into the old people little bell on it ten to it yeah some research somebody is telling me because I had I wrote a song about it than for the Christmas show but I don't I some understand what tip up fishing is tip up is apparently a term in I am noticing that I don't know that much about I well you know I I did I was source I like the way you both raise rates to the Google is I think it's just a little flag that has to do with like a flag that that yeah right if some if something bites on the left yeah it's yeah it's it's the the easy way the smart person see yeah yeah it goes yeah but well somebody hit me make this happen on my own get a budget you should you need to put my **** on somebody newly single once again you know I'm a tell you this though just because we're single doesn't mean we can't have standards what you end up in the trunk how fast you somebody's ice home it's just taking any old advise all we need Lee Ryan cat that's what I'm saying nope we need to keep yeah definitely got a first date let's go out in the middle of the wilderness blessed like please take me out to your show all in the eyes no that is not how we do that if you give me a tile those things the finder can track here's what I think I do know one of my good friends did start and I think if anybody my friend paid we do this because she did start like a boundary waters wilderness experience and it is kind of female focus so I think we need to find one of those like I'm sure if we opened it up and we wanted to find some lady fishermen people out there who were yeah I can hear later trip for us you know I think that would be fine I like this like this a lot and I am on board with you trying new things I just wanna make sure you return that's it that's it might as they might not be a first date thing but let's do let's look into the culture and I think that would be interesting because that happens a little less often I know that there are probably people that do it yeah but you don't hear about it is often it does seem to be mostly kind of a man thing normally side but I'm sure that there are little Fisher persons out helping yeah there is so if you are one of those people you should call as you have time the number six five one six four one one oh seven one he's our lady Fisher person lady for know of one who would like to cure rate in ice fishing adventure for cat is that would be cool and also take this who who who emailed us about teaching in highland all that and yeah okay it will and maybe I should like you know get back on the horse maybe they just don't know how to do it and I think it always is like I golf yeah but I everyone's well hang out with the pro and get a little refresher maybe that's it maybe for a couple of lessons yeah and you can go away I remember how to do I think part of the problem last year if I can just be honest that I went from Bach killed to aspen okay and you know it was from zero to seven yeah and I know when I was twenty five that was fine and I had you know muscles and I was racing so you were doing it on a regular basis correct so now that I don't and I just go recreationally and then I try to do a giant mountain that you I mean you have to like take breaks if you're not sure because you can't breathe and it's my quads were just like giving out yeah it was a literal physical muscles thing that what why I fell yeah they just couldn't hold my because the boys you I believe you so I think there's probably multiple reasons why it wouldn't hurt to maybe just get a little fresher take a step back they don't really an outdoors in the cold I know that I say that I hated so much but like seriously old yourself up in your own home in the gray skies you will lose your mind I completely agree and in our stores enjoys something yeah you know the air I think even having the fresh air even if his coal Frasier does help us all not feel so miserable about life yes I would choose to live here we choose to live here so you might as well make the best also send to the sun please Cole they just sayin okay too dark I think you need to ask for everything we're going to take care of that we're gonna give you up sees all gonna work out I'm sure that there's a lady fish person yes better get a Twitter tweet me at cap organs music I want to hear from you and I am at mission and Shannon within a you are listening to the Donna and Steve show but they are not back until next week in the meantime you're hanging out with us and Ryan but we'll be right back here on my talk on a seven one previously.

"It's five twenty two on AM Tampa Bay. No callers here. I guess nobody else can explain how it is that the Russians interfered with the election what they did other than have a presence on social media or something like that. I would love to hear it. If anybody knows please call us, and let us know what it is. By the way. In regard to the what happened at the hetero in Notre Dom in Bali, obviously over the weekend or the other day a couple of days ago. Now, we've got a man taken into custody in New York. This is last night he came into Saint Patrick's cathedral, which is rather iconic place in New York City in middle Manhattan carrying two canisters of gasoline, two bottles of lighter fluid and to butane lighters. Thirty seven year old guy. And they say they will release his identity once he is formally charged and he was stopped by a cathedral security officer. And is the man was turned around. He spilled some gasoline on the floor and then walk south on the Fifth Avenue and over to fiftieth street, and so when the investigators they tried to question him, he can get his story straight. While turns out he tried to say that the gas was first car he carrying the gas. His tank was empty will. When they went to check his tank, no was not entered as not empty in. So they they said it's too early to consider terrorism. But I think if you look at what happens at Notre Dom and all the publicity around that it's something that's pretty suspicious. What's wrong with people while no no idea that inspires you to start a fire way? Why? Well. Look at the woman. We'll have that story in case you haven't heard about that the woman killed herself now, but they got that woman was going after Columbine and wanting to kill a bunch of young people at Columbine. We're gonna have a former special agent joins us in the seven o'clock hour because it is the twentieth. Anniversary of the Columbine mass shooting on Saturday. And this woman inspired by Columbine. And Jack, I don't understand it. Then mental health we've talked about it over and over again on this show. I just I can't wrap my head around. What makes people tick this way? She was born two years after it happened while she even eight Ren, right? Two years after it happened. Yeah. And you know, we've said before it would be nice if these things do occur if you could just not make a big deal out of them. I mean, you can't stop making a big deal out of them. The press is going to cover it big time. But it seems to give other people ideas, they look at it. And they say, wow, look at all the coverage that guy got I'm going to do the same thing. What a way to go in. I'm gonna die. But too weird way to go. How dangerous of young people are Jeff I didn't think about it. And that perspect- from that perspective that this person was born in two thousand one right? How dangerous a young person like that born in two thousand one two years after Columbine. That's nuts. Yeah. How do you stop that eighteen years old your mind is still developing? But you're you're nuts. And then take it too far. Taking your own life about something that happened before you were born. But the good thing is she took her life. We don't have to worry about her. Yeah. If you're gonna if you're gonna take somebody out, and that's has to be, you know, your future you might as well take yourself out in don't harm anybody else. But you got to wonder about the guy with a gas cans one of these days of sid this thousand times, but one of these days they're going to be able to read people's minds. You're going to have devices. They can just took them up. Put them around the guy's head and say, okay, why did you do this? And whatever he says they can read what he's thinking. Or she's thinking in this case Columbine case. But in a case like this would be great. Why were you in there with that can of gasoline? And then he you see he's thinking, well, I was gonna set fire to the place Saint Patrick's. Cathedral. And then you say why did you want to do that? And then these saying, well it got so much publicity in what happened Notre Dahmer whatever you might be thinking then because otherwise you'll never know what he was thinking. But it's going to be interesting to get the identity of this Thirty-seven-year-old guy to see if he was for some reason anti-catholic or whatever the case may be, but maybe Mosel him have to check that out to it's.

"All right. Good morning. I'm back at it on a Monday about seventy five o'clock right now. And I'm sure of that I'm taking my time. When I do the time now. One. Committed a New Year's resolution to work on time accurate each and every time so yeah. Nice weekend, not bad at all though. Yesterday was downtown. And it was was pretty quiet. I know if everybody was gearing up to go to NFC game later said over the Rhine yesterday's was empty. I Saint Patrick's Day and walking around stop by Japs jabs has been there. A long time in the sign on the door says congratulating themselves for being named one of the top eighteen bars in America while they cut off at eighteen. I don't know one of the top eighteen bars in America was closed on Saint Patrick's, Pat what Saint Patrick's Day. Everybody was open. I mean, I would rescind the award myself who closes on Saint Patrick's Day unless they're never opened on Sunday. But even then I'd open on Saint Patrick's Day that made no sense. But. What else? What else what else w we'll fine place for a cheese steak downtown yesterday. And we typically. I mean, if you live here, and you like chili like a three way, and you go to Kansas City, and they call something a three way that's not your urine for the real thing when you're away from the local food and plenty of people make or restaurants make what they'll call a cheese steak. It's just doesn't taste like one. It might be a good sandwich in its own right? It just doesn't taste like one. But there's this little place on the thirteenth street. I'll get the name here in a bit. I mean, if you whatever you live there, you grew up there back east, and you want the right sandwich. They have the right sandwich. Maybe the best I've found out of town anywhere. That's a big one. So I'll work on the name and get to a little bit later on. We got five eight all right where the big shooting toward the end of last week, the Gambino crime boss, it turns out just to be an incredibly stupid individual who's not going to be alive. Very long the Gambino crime boss was off by a guy who wanted to date his niece and the crime boss wouldn't let him so he drives over to crime bosses house Rams his car into crime bosses Escalade who comes out to check on the damage, then he shoots the crime, boss. The head of the Gambino family ten times with a nine millimeter. You know, what he's not going to be alive? Very long wherever he goes to prison. He'll be dead in the week. Even the cops are saying, he's one of the dumbest murderers of all time for that reason. They said this went from the perfect crime to amateur hour. I guess when he hit the guys escalated knocked the license plate off. So he handed. Kelly the license plate with his fingerprints on it. So that's how they chased him down number one with his prints. Said the Anthony Carmelo will get down in the record books as being one of the dumbest killers in New York City history, if not the US and the world. So as not to mention that the victim was ahead of the game beano crime family, which hardly matches the the local word on camello, your work construction jobs live with his parents. They said he seemed like a nice guy. He just was in for this woman and Kelly got in the way of it. So he won't be around for long. It's about five ten now. Seven hundred wwl w we have a forecasts. We'll get through for the most part. It's not a bad week just ahead. And then we got a lot of basketball fired up on Thursday, actually, sooner than that in Dayton. But we'll get to your forecast in just a minute. Remember to call Saint Vincent de.

"We're talking about Saint Patrick with a Saint Patrick expert. William Federer has written a book called Saint Patrick the real story of his life and times from tragedy to triumph Bill. You were just telling us this exciting story reprise it just a little bit for people who are just tuning in. So I rarely and it's an area with a flat plane at a big hill called crow egg, Patrick or the hill of slain and the chief and makes everybody extinguished their fires on this particular night happens to be the night before Easter whoever did not extinguish. Fires would be killed. Patrick goes, the top of the hill and light a big bonfire. Chieftain sends a bunch of men up there to kill him and Patrick cries out in a loud voice. My God, come and scatters enemies. And the story goes on that because of Patrick's curse seventy men fell and the king came on knee and begged Patrick forgive him of his sin that he converted. There's lots of stories like this. There's one where a druid priests conjures up a fog so thick you can't see in front of you Patrick says, that's good. Can you disperse it? Well, he couldn't Patrick craze in a big beam of sunlight cuts through the clouds. And and then it says on the druid was consumed. Whatever that means. But his style of vandalism was to go to the top guy and confronts him with the gospel. Converted. Yeah. My question to you is you're saying the source of this is Patrick's confessions, which you believe to be an accurate account written by Patrick himself. Right. There's documents every historian acknowledges. He indeed wrote the confession, Patrick and the second is the letter to Kuroda Kaz who was one of the early British kings. Who was capturing Irish that Patrick had brought to face, and he says you're selling the bride of Christ into a brothel if so he's considered the first abolitionist. Slavery. But go ahead. In his confession. He says daily I expect murder fraud or captivity. But here none of these things because the promises of heaven, and he talks about plots that were against him one time they had a valley, and they were laying in ambush, and they were going to jump out and kill them. We'll all day long. They waited. And the only thing that went through the valley was a deer. Get the next day Patrick's on the other side of the valley. So one of his prayers is called the deer's cry or the breastplate of Patrick, and it's a very famous prayer. I bind myself today the strong name of the trinity by invocation of the same three in one one in three I bind unto me forever. The power Christ's incarnation is baptism in the Jordan river death on the cross for myself. Asian is bursting from the spice to is riding on the heavily way is coming on the day of doom by myself today goes on it says to protect me against Satan spells and wiles against false words of heresy against the knowledge that defiles against the hearts idolatry against the wizards evil crap. Against the death wound in the boon burning choking wave the poison shaft protect me Christ till returning. I mean, you can feel like you're walking down a dark street in the inner city or something. I mean, it's like, and then he says Christ before Christ behind me Christ above me, Christ below Christ friend of mouth and a stranger, you know, Christ and all the hearts that love me, Christ, and quiet and endanger. So he was a really courageous guide. And here we are fifteen hundred years after him still talking about it. You think what would you and I have to do to have somebody go talk about fifteen hundred. I have a question of world world. Book encyclopedia said he found all heathens and left it all Christian. Well, what I wanted to know the to bel- when did he invent lucky charms because they're magically delicious, Diddy invent the cereal album. I believe he did. I everyone I want to check that. I think Bill, and I are pretty sure that didn't have dump dumps off of the use of the shamrock. And there's some question about whether he actually used the shamrock or not is that correct Bill. Right. Right. And so Patrick throughout his confession. He's apologizing for being uneducated because he was kidnapped before he finished his Latin Roman education. So you always have this inferior already complex so throughout their he would say things like I long desired to right, but hesitated list. I fall under the condemnation of men's tongue because I'm not as well educated as others. So what he thought was a setback because he was not writing deep theological works in Latin gray was actually a benefit because he talked in the language of the people and would use simple things to explain the gospel like two three leave Cobra to explain the trinity father, son. Holy Ghost three and one. He would walk among the people. He had a big bell that he would ring here through the valley. And then they'd come all gathering around. There's the story that he chased the snakes out of Ireland. But a lot of people think that was him chasing the demons outright. But it is funny because back then it was warmer in Ireland. There could have been snakes, but then they had a little ice age. And it all got colder. I still I want to one point I want to be sure we cover in talking about Saint Patrick is that we kind of have this is the case with a lot of saints. But Saint Patrick is at the top of the list where people sort of turn him into a comic book character. And they talk about this kooky stuff that happens in these legends and things, but I think we want to be really clear that this is a man who lived who was utterly dedicated to Jesus and bravely. Fought for the faith in in Reno. Like, if you made a movie of this, I think somebody's making a movie this, it's a very very dramatic movie. It's a very dramatic story of a real man whose faith would put us all to shame. When we come back. I wanna talk more. We're talking about Saint, Patrick as you know, we have Saint Patrick's Day coming up. We'll be right.

Eric johnson. Komo TV news will be the host Eric, and I have been talking and we've seen the changes here as well. I was born and raised in Seattle. I went to school here learned to drive a car here. I worked at many businesses from the Edgewater licking an air, and like so many we all have had those discussions with families and friends as Eric, and I have how the city seems to be unsafe dirty scary for many rhetoric to say this is hometown. For us. I turned on a microphone in a studio this week here. A coma radio. Eric Johnson to share with us. Why we all need to watch that citizens tonight Seattle's dying. When it hits the airwaves following basketball at about eight pm Eric says right off the bat in this program. We will hear from Seattle police their words their concerned, and what they're allowed to do. And not do I promise you this stuff is going to open your eyes, and you're going to see this problem in ways that you haven't thought about it before we're also gonna talk to citizens. We're going to talk to homeowners and family people and business owners, we're going to look at some law, for instance, some will find it disturbing that you could be caught with two point five grams of heroin, and you won't spend a minute in jail. The unspoken rule amongst our leadership is that anything under three grams is no big deal. So essentially narcotics heroin meth have been on some level legalized on on the streets of Seattle. So we're gonna talk about things like that. We're going to talk about this this growing anger and frustration on the part of the citizens of this city who have watched what has happened happened about the garbage the filth. The camps the sweeping of the camps, and then and then the homeless and the drug addicted just moving down the road a little bit. We're going to talk a little bit about that to to people who are watching it erode their way of life. So many people you've heard it. I've heard it. I don't take my kids downtown anymore. I don't go downtown any more at nighttime. I don't go to public parks anymore. It's too scary. That is a quality of life issue that needs to be addressed head on. And I think now well actually the time for it was years ago. But now we're going to do it this show airs tonight at eight PM, it's called Seattle is dying. There's going to be an NBA game and it will air right after the NBA game. So if it goes a few minutes into the eight o'clock hour show will start then. But it's it's an honest effort to to look at our problems. And it also is an honest effort to offer some solutions. We went clear across the country to find some solutions. And I think those will be I opening as well. So that's it. Seattle is dying tonight at eight o'clock. You're listening to komonews AM one thousand FM ninety seven seven..

"Saint Patrick's Day, and because it's on a Sunday for for many, the celebration begins today in pubs around the country, all kinds of fun celebrating whether you're Irish or not it seems but turns out many of the so-called traditional celebrations. We're used to didn't come over from the emerald isle. Joining me on the KOMO news line is ABC's, Sherry Preston. In New York, Sherry we've Americanized an Irish holiday. It seems. Patrick's Day was a holy day. Not really a holiday in Ireland. You know, it has been in this country for over one hundred years, but you know, for hundreds of years in Ireland in Dublin Saint Patrick's Day was nothing more than a religious feast. It wasn't until the immigrants came over to the United States that it really became a solid holiday. I mean Boston estate claim to the first Saint Patrick's Day celebration in the American colonies in about seventeen thirty seven, but the British actually started the Saint Patrick's Day parade tradition in seventeen sixty two when the Irish-born soldiers serving in the British army. They started marching through lower Manhattan here in New York, but really didn't become a big party day until the Irish Catholics who flooded into this country after the failure of the crop. Eighteen forty five that they really turned it into, you know, the party that it is now they really want to just celebrate their Irish roots and say, you know, especially to those who are anti immigrant and who had negative feelings towards them and say, look, we're proud of who we are. This is you know, and and after the civil war when a lot of people who served in the civil war, then other people started to embrace it as well. And you know, it wasn't until invention of television that those in Ireland started watching all of the parades and festivities here in the United States. And they said, well, that's pretty good. So now the parade in Dublin. Thrones people it's got to be a multimillion dollar multibillion dollar industry with all of the clothing, the green this the green that that milkshakes and bagels, and boy, you can buy just about any piece of clothing now online that's made entirely with St Patrick's Day in mind. Yeah. Exactly. This is the third biggest drinking holiday in the United States. The first is New Year's Eve the second is mardi gras. And then at Saint Patrick's Day. I mean, you've got green beer and a lot of places. You've got green bagels that they make out here in New York. You know, the river in Chicago famously turned green for St Patrick's Day, you know, so a lot of people celebrating, and you know, the tradition of four beef and cabbage. It used to be actually ham and cabbage. But corned beef was much cheaper. Because the Irish Americans who were living again in the southern part of Manhattan, and, you know, lower Manhattan by provisions that were left from ships that came back from China, and it was a lot of that beef. That was a corn. And it was it was a lot easier to stay that way. And so the corned beef and cabbage became the tradition as opposed to the ham and the cabbage because the ham was what more expensive. Well, whether you're Irish should not have a great Saint Patrick's Day and thanks for all that information. I was very interesting. Take care have a good one too. Big, jerry. ABC Sherry presidents. Twenty propel insurance business update time and the state treasurer in Illinois wants to make it easier for.

"I got Jubal the littlest leprechaun. All right. Shock collar while. And putting that on Jeff, please. Collar question. There's a very famous American term called a Patty wagon. It's slang for a police car. And most people might recognize that word from old TV shows or movies where like a police officer would find an out of control drunk person. And would toss them in the back of their Patty wagon. They could take them down to the precinct and put them in a cell to sober up. And since it's Saint Patrick's Day, I need you to tell me how did the name, Patty wagon. I come about. Well, let's see. So. Maybe because they started throwing people in some sort of. The wagon on a Saint Patrick's Day because they were drunk. Yeah. I just got known as the paddy wagons. They would bring it out like a wagon like a taxi. They're just pulling it around. Everyone's drunks to save gets us more than any other time. Exactly. Back then with St. Patty's day, really all about drinking, and I feel like that's more modern day thing. Right. Like like, it was actually may be celebrating Saint Patrick at one point could be more religious back in the day. I mean, what if you go the opposite way? What if you say it was invented by guy named Patrick? Okay. They calling it the paddy wagon, or there was just some drunk chick to throw in there all time Patty, and she was just getting hammered around..

That's the east coast of New Zealand's, South Island, new Zealand, Prime Minister, just cinder our Dern, these are people who I would describe as having extremist views that have. Absolutely, no place in New Zealand. And in fact, have no place in the world one of the suspects. Streamed live video of the attack on social media, former FBI special agent, Steve Gomez that reveal something about the motive is is. So is that these suspects really wanted to glamorize and show to the whole world what they were doing. Unfortunately, we're seeing this a lot more, given the, you know, the social media and the ability to stream live, but when when you have suspects that are doing this is not just about committing the violent attack. It's about trying to get a lot of attention. Unfortunately, that's what some of these suspects are into coming up. "De show. All right. Speaking of Saint Patrick's Day is Saint Patrick's Day weekend. It's going to be a very very very busy weekend for my guest. Brian Castillo is a piper for the Shannon Rovers Irish pipe band played the with the band for several decades, and the there's a lotta history behind this ban. And they're going to have a very very busy weekend. Playing in downtown Chicago for Saint Patrick's Day parade on Saturday and then on the south. Outside parade on Sunday and other places as well. You can follow the band act on Twitter at Shannon, Rovers and on Facebook at Shannon Rovers pipe band. And we want to welcome. Brian Costello to the show. Brian welcome to the show. Thanks so much for having me. Absolutely. Let's talk a little bit about your background. Are you are you a Chicagoan? I grew up in elmhurst my whole life. Okay. And when did you start playing the start to start playing the pipes? My wake up lessons to play the place when I turned thirty. So I've been doing it for twenty three years. Wow. And what was what were you interested in that? I mean was that there was at a gift that was not a surprise you something you wanted. It was one of these. I really love music, and my wife noticed it and said, you should be playing an instrument because we just really like music. So what instrument would you like to play? And I said I would love to play the bagpipes. Really? Now, what's your interest in the bagpipes? When did that start? Probably as a little kid. You know, my parents were both percent Irish. And we celebrate team cutter state and always saw the Shannon Rovers playing a town and actually played at all of our weddings, all my siblings. Weddings? And just always every time. I saw that Shannon Rovers play. I was always very impressed it. Yeah. Yeah. So so what what was it like when you started playing the bagpipes it seems to me like a difficult instrument to play. Yes. So funny story is they told right before sorta play less blind up. I told everyone my mother I was going to learn to play the bagpipes, and then I started playing and it was very hard. And I wanted to quit. Quitting running. All the backpacks going going going great. So I just had to keep doing it. Just because they told too many people's going to do it. What what's what's what is what is difficult about it? What's the technique that you have to have? And what do you have to practice in order to be able to play the pipes? The music is really not not hard. It's if anyone's ever played the recorder rolling up this the fingerings almost the exact same as recorder sharps and flats quarter where on the back. Don't hold belts. The hardest part is just figuring out a breathing at the bagpipes. Yeah. It takes a lot of window veasley. But the one thing to think about when you're playing the bagpipes is your when you take a breath in your lungs expands and your ribcage expands. So when you're playing the bagpipes thing is not the fight against that move at use it to help you breathe pipes, which is it takes a little bit of doing get to figure that out. Yeah. I mean, that's what it seems like to me whenever I see somebody playing the bagpipes I'm thinking to myself, there's got to be some sort of breathing technique that has to be used. Did you have to you have to learn control of your breadth? Was it something that you had to to practice? I mean, it literally takes probably about two years before you sound on the pipes from if you've never had music before from start to finish the funny stories, I was learning in Racine and would in an apartment. Sure. Crazy say I'm sorry. I you know, I live in an apartment building. And I think it would be kind of interesting if the person across the hallway for me was practicing bagpipes, I think that would be. The lucky thing is I owned the building. So my cats really complain. The funny thing is I was in the spring. I was like doing some yard work outside episode guy walks by with a little dog. And he looks at any goes, hey, are you the bagpiper? Popped up my chest. And I said, well, yes, I am. You're getting better. That's correct. So you play the you finally mastered. It you said it takes two years before you sound good. And when did the what did the, Shannon Rovers come into your life? So it's it's my wife, Debbie lessons at the Irish American heritage center that we were with a kind of a strange group of guys learning, and then I switched over to another band. And they were more of a competition ban, which there's lots of stuff to bagpipes. But my mom was always asked me winter you to get the Shannon Rovers. So we kept asking to get I actually played with my little brother, Sean, okay? What I started learning. I made him do it with me. And so she was gone through a lot of stuff at the time that, you know, they're they're leaving some people laughed at another band. So they weren't really taking new people. So. Banned for a while doing repeat bad where I actually, you know, played from Terry McHugh was a great instructor. But one day he basically came to us and said, he had a Shannon Rovers are looking I urge they need some more papers who'd be interested. So we started playing with them. And then eventually, we my brother, and I joined the voters and that was back in like roughly two thousand while. That's amazing. There must have been. You know, what I mean, if they were a part of your life for for all those years, and you know, and and the inspiration for you to take up the bagpipes when you were a kid was firm seeing them. It must have been kind of a dream come true to be a part of the then finally to join that band. It really was. And it was one of the things where it's like when I was playing with that. Of course, everyone has their wedding. I went back looked at it and people I was playing with it. My first practice actually, click my wedding. And I'm like, wow. That is so cool that they're here. And now, I'm here. Circle playing with them. That's amazing. That really is a great story. So tell you when you're younger brother, Sean, when you said, hey, you're going to play the bagpipes with me. Did he have an interest in it as well? Did was he fascinated by it as well when he was a kid. He looks a lot too. But he's like I'm not doing that. I'm like, yes, you are. So far, we do Saint Patrick's Day or plant. She's not doing it. Because like at the time we had to pay like three hundred dollars. To take these lessons from these people because we had a bodies electric bagpipes. I don't either I'm not doing it. Like a loan. You the money you can pay me back whatever you want. Headlock? It's at you're doing. You know, the funny thing is like in two thousand four Shane Aurora's plate the Dublin St Patrick's Day parade. Oh, man, and my mom at the time was so proud of us was sick with cancer. And we bought the whole family over her, brother. Elliott aunts and uncles from Georgia. We'd probably group up lease thirty people just by brother that came. And. Raines a ton. But it was probably seventy five degrees and sunny. We're lined up ready to March. I look over my brother, and I said, aren't you? Glad I h you do this. All right. I'm glad he's awesome. That's so awesome. It's you know, it's funny. You say in Ireland rains a ton which is true. I went to I've only been to Ireland once it was the greatest trip I've ever gone on the most beautiful place I've ever been and we we were there for over two weeks and it only rained once. Which we fought stunning. It was just it was you know, we went and may and and it only rain once and it was over two weeks or there and it rained the day that we were in Belfast taking taking the black cab tour. And it seemed strikingly appropriate because of the that we were doing that. It would be raining. I've never been up north. The she worlds are planning a trip in. Occur. Twenty twenty Saint Patrick's Day parade. So if you're looking for another excuse to go any excuse to go at such a beautiful place. I mean, it's just incredible. Really incredible. Okay. So now you're talking about. So the first of all give us the give us the history of the Irish of the of the Shannon Rovers. The history is rich and really great. Tell us tell us about the band. Yeah. So they've been around since nineteen twenty six of their formed by Tommy riot. There's still like his descendants in the band. Like Saturday and playing with Eddie Ryan who is his brother's, son. So is great. Yeah. His great uncle. But it's it's you know, it formed by guys that came over from near the Shannon river, and that's why they adopted the name Rovers. And it was originally started to help people out, you know, because it was nineteen twenty six it was, you know, right? The depression and stuff, so they their main purpose was to play fundraisers, and it started off as a face at bugle band. But then switched over to the bagpipes. And basically it was a fundraising organization to help people out in the Chicagoland area. It kind of grew from there. And you know, we we actually were different kilts back stormed. And then we played a ton for mayor daily devotional, mayor Daley. Ed, it'd be any type dignitaries came in town. Obviously, John F Kennedy was one of the biggest ones that we played for. So when he passed away we adopted new Kennedy certain just after him, and you know him. The really cool thing as to what's when John F k passed away. Played his chino at the cemetery. Which is very cool. Yeah. But we we big claim to fame to as we lead the Chicago trade, the plumbers local one thirty is in charge of the parade. So they were always picked it to run the play by near daily when they first formed downtown. Yeah. So we lead. Every courageous Ben. We've led the parade which is a very big import to Shannon Rovers. Yeah. And we pretty much play for every president sets were formed and. Couple years ago, we were to play the White House President Obama, which is very important child that we played. Yeah. That's really amazing. But it's such a rich history. It's such a such a rich history that this band has Brian hang on. Okay. We gotta take a break. We'll come back and talk more. Okay. Okay. We'll talk more with. Brian Costello is a piper for the Shannon Rovers Irish pipe band. And they got a busy weekend. Let's just say that when we come back. We'll run down all the places where you can hear the the Shannon Rovers play on this Saint Patrick's Day weekend. And we'll do that. Right. If we take a break here on seven twenty WGN actually were we're going to go to the newsroom, we got some breaking news out of the New Zealand. Correct. Vic, thanks Nick just moments ago. The Australian Prime minister finally getting some getting some updates now they've confirmed that forty people are dead in these two mass shootings in the town of Christ's church that confirmed that just moments ago ten were killed at one mosque thirty at another mosque of not sure of the names of the mosques yet. They've also confirmed that four suspects are in custody. We heard reports that three were men one were women still waiting on confirmation for that too. But also, the prime minister confirming describing rather one of the gunman in the prime minister's words as an extremist right-wing violent terrorists. And also confirming that at least one of the suspects is an Australian. Citizen. We'll have more Nick. And art report at the top of the hour. Okay..

"Drink interrupt? But why do you think so many people drink on Saint Patrick's? What's the occasion, why the green beer, certainly a part of that story, and there's the desire to have fun in this state and other places country. Ireland drinking is associated with that. I think that's part of it. It's become known for that. Really again, not a fan of the green beer, I'll get to that a little bit later in the in the in the last year, but that's part of our culture. And you know, unfortunately, it's about the the drinking, but not for everybody gets another aspect of Saint Patrick's Day in a bit number three. Ruled the city of Chicago, the great city of Chicago dumps forty tons of diets the Chicago river, the turnip green every Saint Patrick's Day how about saving die for some that Brown cow pasture. You call the professional football playing surface at Soldier Field that grass there. It's awful horrible. And the die apparently kills you. Only fish capable of living in that dirty stream you call the Chicago river, which is probably carp. Rule. Saint Patrick actually died on March seventeenth four sixty one a d. So we're really talking about a week here and get instead of gorging ourselves on corn beef overpriced green beer, why don't we all chip in donate a few bucks of the folks in Hollywood can afford to send their kids to college. That's tied. Right into the mil-. Like that we spend a lot of time talking about that awaits we already do that. Because we we spent twelve dollars the St. one stupid movies, twelve bucks. The movie makes no sense. It's the rule who if you're out and about on the Saint Patrick's Day NCA fine lasts across the barn. And everybody knows that's part.
