Spring Training 2021: MLB's Plan To Prevent Outbreaks

"Jeff. What's the plan around health and safety to get to something resembling normal in spring training. I mean there's a hundred page document that lays out an extremely granular fashion. What baseball is trying to do to prevent outbreaks and you remember pablo. We talked about last year. We saw with the miami marlins with saint louis. Cardinals teams are susceptible to that. I will say a very positive thing. That happened already is major league. Baseball's first round of intake testing where they had four thousand three hundred thirty six tests. They didn't give the number of tests subjects but among those tests only thirteen came back positive. It's a very very small number. If there is an outbreak pablo it would not surprise me at all considering the way that people at spring training or around one. Another so much but They are abiding by distancing protocols. They're limiting the number of players. Nobody's allowed to go out. And the hope is that over time as players get vaccinated that will change but for the time being. It's very similar to the way that they operated toward the end of last season.

MLB announces revised 2021 Spring Training schedule

"Major league baseball announcing this afternoon. A revised two thousand twenty one spring training schedule with times. Cactus league teams like the reds are gonna play twenty. Eight came across thirty days with two off days and grapefruit. League clubs will play a regionalized scheduled. To mitigate travel afford the reds. They will start now. A day later than was originally planned reds playing the indians in goodyear on february the twenty eighth. We are sixteen days away from that. They'll have a day off on saturday march. Sixth on monday march twenty second. Finish up the cactus league on monday. March twenty ninth. They'll have to off days and then open the season in cincinnati against the saint. Louis cardinals a lot of these games we are. I think used for the most part spring training games taking place during the day and they've had more games at night in recent years certainly the last decade since they moved to arizona. I as a sarasota and before then plant city. The number of night games was typically pretty small. And there's been a few more. In recent years there are more for instance that first week of games. They played two games during the day and then four games at six o'clock mountain time. Eight o'clock here and then after that one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve thirteen fifteen games in spring training which is not usual in fact. I'm looking here at their home games during the week pretty much. All of their home games are going to be at night. They have three saturday home games and then they have to. One o'clock games that are played during the day. And my guess here is. Maybe and i haven't looked at this. Because i'm kind of doing this on the is you could probably tell his night games against the indians to this year facility with but i wonder if that's in part because they want the indians to go and not travel as much so they're gonna play day games. I don't know but nonetheless more night games than usual but the date you care about. First game is against cleveland in goodyear february. The twenty eighth twenty. Cactus league games and thirty days there remains the possibility that cactus league games at least in the early going are gonna be five innings or seven innings. Just because there's not going to be as many guys in camp. At least at the outset we will see we will see sixteen days between now and and

NFL suspends all activities for Titans after positive COVID-19 cases

"Few players from Tennessee titans tested positive for in nineteen, which has prompted the NFL from suspending all activities bore the titans until more tests come out well, they came out The three titans week for opponent are the three steelers initial reports said that the game would be postponed until Monday or possibly even Tuesday. But an additional titans player tested positive on Thursday morning, which led to the temporary cancellation of this contest. The Titans and steelers will not be playing their game this week and the NFL must find a way to rescheduled game by maneuvering weeks and or even possible that the game may be lost. We don't really know yet by the way. NFL has spoken about issues such as this. It seems like they'll do whatever they can within reason to reschedule the game. As we know, the sport of football is a lot different than other sports and rescheduling games could be an issue due to the nature of the sport, but we're GonNa have to see what transpires throughout the year. This may not be the only time that something like this actually occurs and when it happened with the Saint Louis Cardinals Baseball, they could just reschedule doubleheaders at our seven. Years later in the season and kicked, that can down the road. I don't know if you can do that in the NFL is such a physical game and players need time to rehab throughout a week. They need time to heal because our bodies are so sore after a football game but. As. Of Right now, take Juju. James Connor. Big Ben King Henry Corey Davis Tanna Hill and whoever you were starting out of your lineups and adjust sucks I know hopefully some of you are in leagues where Your Commissioners on top of coordination and they allow you to drop without penalty and pick up after the week where no one else in you your league can go in and scoops. You dropped him connor no, one can pick them up and just be reassigned to your team from assuming not all leagues have that kind of freedom. Or that type of commissioner a Kinda does take a lot of work got enforcing laws to which are pretty cool right

Pandemic playoffs: Brewers, Astros in despite losing records

"When you woke up on Sunday morning none of the eight matchups were said I. think that's kind of cool that would be like the the final day of the regular season Lebron Yeah I don't even know who we're playing. That's what it was for every single team yesterday in Major League Baseball your dodgers are going to play the brewers who got in yesterday with the first losing record granted at sixty. Games with the first losing record for a team in the history of the Major League Baseball Playoffs there were twenty nine and thirty one opening round best of three all in the same ballpark what are your thoughts and we couldn't lose I mean you know it. Likely not, but we could because his only three games all they got to do is win two of them, right? So baseball is so weird dodgers obviously you mentioned we got him at home dodger stadium. I don't think that you know I'm sure we're going to roll out Walker Bueller in Kershaw and we're going to do what we need to do to get to the next round But you could lose you know teams could lose you know the beginning of the year, the dodgers and the Yankees were pretty much the favorites to to get to the thing. In the end, but then the pandemic happened then we had to do all of the rescheduling and figure out how many games that went on for so long how many games should they play the only WanNa play this amount, the players, WanNa, play that amount it became a money issue, and now we finally have gotten to the point where October will be playoff baseball. Speaking out, let's go through a couple of interesting storylines after this round by the way, then everything is going to be played at trial sites and eventually the world series will be played at the home of the Texas Rangers and they'll wrap that no. Later than October twenty eighth, they want to avoid the second third. So homefield everybody early, and then we're going to neutral sites, Los Angeles San Diego. Texas and Houston quick thoughts the Yankees of the five seat in the AL, the five seat, the rays of the one-seat. What does the same thing with the dodgers? Right? The Yankees could they take care of business they moved their events they don't they go home whether they a one C or DHCP. It's everybody's even really to be honest with you. Everybody's even Garrett Cole. Start, for the Yankees Chain Bieber for the Indians in for all the money they paid Garrett Cole Shane Beavers had a better year he has in when you look at it, there are no fans in the stands. So there's no home field advantage for anybody you know what's great about not having fans the Houston Astros. Left right. Everywhere they go. They are the sick see the astros have made it in baseball's big off season, they should just get blinked. Every time people bring up the Astros are frown just cheated just blatant just cheat to win. They're taking on the Minnesota twins keys, dodgers will take on the brewers the padres in the playoffs for the first time in fourteen years will take on the Saint Louis Cardinals and the much maligned and I know it's a sixty game season. How about the Miami Marlins under? Derek. Jeter, for everything that they have gone through there and they'll get the Chicago cubs. Yeah. They they. They deserve to being I'm happy for I'm happy for Jeeter because when he? Blew everything up and traded. Call Stan and everybody was like Oh they just care about the money. They're completely trash in the organization, and now they're in the playoffs and they take on. Chicago like you said, one

"Sources. Tell CBS sports the Saint. Louis Cardinals have had at least six people test positive for the virus so far and think there's more to come the cardinals had to postpone their weekend games because of this, and it's another big setback for the two thousand twenty baseball season. Remember the Miami. Marlins are also dealing with an outbreak so far sixteen marlins players have gotten the virus which is nearly Nearly two thirds of the teams roster they've had to postpone games to. That's the MLB is still trying to make this season work, but it's rolling out new rules to try and make things safer sources tell ESPN. It'll never require players where surgical masks when travelling rather than just cloth ones. They're also asking players not to leave their hotel rooms when they're on the road to make sure people are following the rules, a compliance officer will be traveling with each team.

Cardinals-Brewers game off after positive COVID tests

"Everybody's being tested today. Psychologically emotionally, and for covid nineteen that's the Minnesota twins style today. Remember that the major league. Baseball. Protocol the twins at least they have three tiers of people to your one. The players coaches tier to kind of the direct support staff tier three media others. Tears one and two both tested today rapid tested today because of what's going on with the Saint Louis Cardinals a couple of cardinals tested positive for covid nineteen. There in Milwaukee are the cardinals not gonNA play tonight scheduled to play tomorrow provided. There are no more positive tasks did see that from a minute ago but the twins are going through their protocols now and that the cardinals were here and So they did some rapid testing Cleveland apparently today was their normal testing anyway. So they have all been tested as well. clubhouse disinfected. Daily Scrub down continuing elite reading from lavelle story deep clean before a new team uses it as well. So it was theoretically clean, very very well between the cardinals and Cleveland's visit but that's the deal game is scheduled to go on tonight twins looking to a rebound after last night's two zero loss it's clemenger versus Daba target field about two hours from. Now, we have no results of those tests just if they'd been administered is that correct? There's results I haven't seen anything about him, but that's that's what we know

Stealing the Signs: How Allegations Against the Astros Could Change Baseball

"Any allegation that relates to a wool violation that could affect the outcome of a game or games is the most serious abuse matter that was. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred responding to questions questions about the biggest baseball scandal. In recent memory amidst accusations of the Houston Astros stole signs two years ago executives employers around around the League are wondering what will happen next and whether it goes beyond the Astros. It's a story could change the game as we know it. I mean at times. It's Wednesday November twentieth. This is espn daily presented by indeed. Jeff thanks for coming on the show. There's really nothing going on in baseball these days. No nothing at all just the biggest scandal in the last decade to last century maybe Jeff Passan is an MLB insider for ESPN Jeff. You're at the the. MLB owners meeting in Arlington Texas. What is the scene like there? So the scene is actually construction. Seen Globe life field is being built right next door. In the shadow of Jerry World Rob Manfred and a bunch of Texas Rangers. Executives took a tour through the new ballpark. And so we're looking in the sweets and we're looking at the club down the first baseline and then we end up in this construction action area. Where Rob Manfred is standing there in front of a bunch of cameras wearing a hard hat and the first few questions are about the Rangers ballpark? But then the question comes in what about the Houston Astros and the sign stealing scandal. That is taking over Major League baseball right now. We have a very very active. What is going to be really really thorough investigation ongoing but beyond that? I can't tell you how close we are. He addressed that and really clued us in some as to what. Mlb Thinking is at this point early on and what's going to be the biggest story in baseball this year. It's it's the biggest story in baseball. It's really honestly the biggest story in baseball in a real long time. And that's of course the report from the athletic that according to Pitcher Mike Fires fires the astros stole signs back in two thousand seventeen. What exactly where the Astros accused of doing in two thousand seventeen is mike fires? Alleges the Astros had a camera in center field that was trained on the signs that the catcher was putting down and the feed from that camera went to a monitor in the hallway between in the dugout and the Astros clubhouse and in this hallway. There was somebody who is. They're looking at the signs decoding them in real time. And depending on what the pitch was if it was a fastball. There was nothing but if it was an off speed pitch they would bang on a trash can and those noises leases that would come out of the dugout would alert the hitter as to what was coming now. This was happening incredibly quickly. So it's obvious that the Astros had the signs of these teams pretty early and as time went on this got out and if you were going in to face the Houston Astros. You went in there with multiple signs you. You changed up the this year during the world series the Washington nationals had five sets of signs that their pitchers had to memorize because they wanted to change them so quickly because they were so wary of what the Astros were doing. Science stealing in. Baseball isn't unusual. But what is unusual about this well the way that you look at signed stealing or the way that longtime grizzled baseball men look at signs. Stealing is that it is an art that if you are able to use use your eyes to figure out what's going on whether it's a runner on second base looking at the catchers signals and somehow furtively relaying what's coming coming to the hitter that that's something that has been part of the game for a really long time and is beautiful and is enjoyable and is is part. The fabric of the game one technology gets involved. You get into the unwritten baseball rules that it's almost beyond the Pale that you would ever use. WHO's a camera or you would ever use some sort of algorithm to decode what the signs are and that's where we that's where we are at this point where you have this old school mentality of signs stealing being okay running up against the reality of life in two thousand nineteen where technology he makes things a lot easier and makes it a lot easier for you to go out and do something like this and what? The allegations against the Houston Astros are is is that they looked at this unwritten rule in baseball scoffed at it and said we want to win. And we're going to go to any length to do that. Well well they did win. They won the world series that year in obviously this casts that victory in a New Light. How has the team responded to these allegations? The team really hasn't responded and that is interesting for the Astros because as we saw with the brand and Taubman situation the Astros Stroz instinct is to push back against negative stories is to save. This is how we do things and whether you like it or not. It doesn't make a difference so their silence in this case has spoken a lot of volumes now. Granted there's an investigation into this right now and they're probably not going to want to run afoul of Major League baseball when they're looking at severe potential penalties. That Rob Manfred can enforce. Obviously we're still very much in the middle of this. But what kind of punishment do you think we might be looking at. It's tough to say I would not be surprised if the maximum fine is levied here and that's two million dollars. The last time we saw that happen vigne was ironically with the saint. Louis Cardinals who had an employee Chris Korea hack into the computerized database of the Houston Astros. And they were fined two million dollars they were docked. Two first round draft picks that were given to the Astros. When you go beyond the draft picks and you go beyond beyond what to a billionaire is a miniscule fine? You're starting to look at potential suspensions. And if if rob Manfred goes goes out and suspends Jeff Lou the General Manager of the Houston Astros and suspends. Aj hinch the manager of the Houston Astros all of a sudden. Maybe maybe teams are going to think twice before thinking about doing something like this but you know what maybe they're not maybe teams look at it and say okay. Two a million dollars a few graphics some international players my GM and my manager what trade that for a ring. I think almost every one of them the answer is going to be. Yes we've heard what Manfred has to say so far. What are people saying in Arlington? What are you hearing from other teams around Donald? There are a lot of very very unhappy billionaires. And that's what you have to be to own a major league baseball team. Every one of these teams is worth more more than a billion dollars and they look at what's happening and they look at their investments and they say we invested in something that is farcical is is this really the point that we're at where a world champion achieved that with something like stealing signs and it's a reasonable thing to ask and I think if there's anything that's going to pressure rob Manfred to make sure that this investigation is as thorough as he says it's going to be it. Is those twenty nine other owners outside of the Astros owner. Jim Crane saying hey the game and its integrity is on the line here and we really truly deeply employees need to look into this to ensure something like this not just doesn't happen again but that we adjudicate the right kind of penalties to ensure that it doesn't so teams are looking at this and saying that Rob Manfred has to put down an enormous penalty on the Astros. If in fact the investigation does back up the allegations that Mike fires made aide. What about the argument that the Astros are being unfairly judged here because everybody does their no astros officials who were speaking on the record right now but if you talk with people in the organization they will say yeah but what about everyone else and listen? That's that's not much of a defense is so much as it is a way of trying to get around what they did. wrong. If you talk with executives around the sport they think that this is not something that is limited just to the Houston Astros that this is something. That's been going on far foreign wide for a while now and they're looking at rob Manfred and saying. Are you going to actually do something about it. And what was most interesting about his comments. Today is that he said and this is a quote. I'm not going to speculate on whether other people are going to be involved with that if it happens but I have no reason to. I believe that expand extend beyond the Astros at this point in time now maybe. MLB's investigation is going to bring more evidence to show otherwise but until it does there will be people around the game who are saying that this is something that's happening and this is something that's not being addressed by. The Commissioner's Office Office. What does that say about baseball? What does that say about the sport writ large that it's not just the astros potentially that is all of these other other teams that are trying to get around the rules and potentially running afoul of them? And what does it say about the integrity of the game right right now because if the Games are not being played on a fair level then they're not really games at all it's just the wwe

"Care stocks just aren't getting enough credit for the incredible fundamentals especially best offers like united health group seventeen she's a big administrative government sponsored health pets sure enough two days ago seventeen reported what I call a Nabokov quarter meaning not is fear while the company delivered a nice top and bottom line they also missing some key line I'm so we can over that medical cost ratio found that little niggling frankly the percent of the premiums they collect it goes to paying for healthcare but because the managed care stocks have and crushed by Elizabeth Warren worries and number was all they knew sock exploded higher than the new surging six point five percents single session teens now rallied nearly fifteen point from its lows getting month although it's still twenty seven points away from its highest stock is picking up some members so let's check in with Michael Mayer is the chairman president CEO of seventeen and my favorite healthy. are executive now that he's finally recovered from the Saint Louis Cardinals stinging defeat at the hands of the shocking Washington nationals but you're not going to make money the driver manager okay let's you so much for coming on this quarter was really what odd I think that you just get better and better when this next he'll closes right doing because you've really got a momentum enough and you also announced the by that which I think was great during sign there's a couple of I this was the ninth clean quarter we've had and the other eight we went down for Novi in my mind volatility with her this this was a very good quarter the buyback we have the optionality now that with the proceeds from the sale the socks the copies were divesting and we now have the option retired that or by backstop if we cannot like to buy back stock as a way to for the investors you do want to do well here's what I'm thinking there was a piece in the New York Times Tober eighteenth twenty nine thousand nine how pending decisional bomb care could up in twenty twenty campaign there's a very big federal appeals court decision coming very shortly could happen to this evening for I know we're going to be a lot of misunderstanding at I'm not sure of US knows which way it's going to come out but there are situations which could be very advantageous for seventeen that people nate misjudge but which is by stock when I we called WHO's our investors today we called when the Fifth District Federal Court was going to rule the way they did right now we think there's a chance that the appeals court could turtle we we know that if they don't it's going to the Supreme Court and we think Supreme Court were overturned not five four you'll be sixty or seventy two so We're hoping that the Federal Appeals Court Fifth District does reverse it they do it will just take an over here out right but you I'm presuming you're saying I'm too would be in favor of the four healthcare which absolutely it is the exchanges are shocking people right they're actually doing we're they're allowed to flourish they're flourishing in caution going down people like him and we'll retaining the individuals longer than we historically have though we're down about one point nine million we were staying longer all the time and we have eighty percent of the people each year renewing from the previous year so it's a product like it's where people want to walk in with an insurance card not for free care don't you think that there's been a miscalculation in the big broad presidential debate and lately just in the polls from CNN the other day it looks like the American people are waking up idea that maybe it will cost too much and maybe the care would be subpar on this single payer I was just looking at every other country you go to England they've had single payer forever and there's a private system equal in size for every time a politician I've said it to you before it's too much politics not policy right I tell them why don't you go practice on the postal system no you've had the postal system the private system they'll this this system is working people care they want a couple of employees in Italy and one of my employees contain costs in a single payer is withhold services I've had people in England Germany France as us to open up medical tourism spots in the former Eastern European bloc so they can go get the knee replacement of what things they can't normally get one more fast sure have to confirm this there I believe there are about ten times as many M is in Canada as find the Mayo clinic in Rochester Minnesota thing about this what that means if this four if there's seventy four in Rochester some of that nature there's only even forty two whole country I mean is there so's dynamics that's great numbers on post road now I go through this gigantic acquisition welfare I don't know how do it for instance I was okay so where are we now it's Illinois in New Jersey I mean every state do you have to make a presentation every state in why can these two states hold you up well they're not they're not going to New Jersey they seem to be last that's okay they they're going to the review right now there are some some things in Illinois it's virtually going to be resolved any time now I it's it's a clean it's very clean acquisition okay now the we're working with justice I any trust any trust is it's hard to see who's the states can decide how many players they want anytime and what the rates are okay what question do you think that people are beginning of when it was warn really raises less corn and more hell are people actually starting to get frightened about the the dollars that will cost you think it's starting to sing I hope so because the numbers I've seen that that single payer program Medicare for we'll have somewhere between twenty five and thirty eight trillion dollars over ten years here's the budget for ten years is fifty six trillion dollars they get about what that means there's the whole country would be it's it's it's I've said it many times it's politics not policy and you know it's very easy to have a soundbite medicare for all right it takes a lot of paragraphs explain bad all right that's great because you've been a source of wisdom and also whatever win what we're going to fail you told us to succeed now people want them and my MLB playoffs: What a Game 4 rainout means for the Yankees and Astros in the ALCS

"Six so your mother nature won the battle when it comes to Major League Baseball American League Championship Series no game four on Wednesday that was expected game four is going to happen on Thursday night eight o'clock eastern time on ESPN radio and ESPN at both managers had to speak on in terms of the benefits of a post poll game first AJ hands of the Houston Astros gives everybody if they often have an opportunity collectors cells before gas for changes are pitching a little bit how beneficial it is probably easier to answer after I see how guys perform and how the pitching plays out but I guess it's kind of a wait and see but I does solidify who we starting game for game five without having to go to a bowl game and Yankees manager when it comes to a player coming back that'll be another conversation even though he hasn't been able to go yet I gave you and then the potential option off the bench in the heating situation if we like something so I don't look at it as were entirely twenty four man right now I do believe we have as bad off the bench right now and whether a situation for that arises we'll see but will continue to evaluate the best smartly as we can move forward to do you some Giancarlo Stanton who believes will be another battle of the bands I firmly believe this whoever wins game four will win the ALCS I think the Yankees the win in six I'm not going to back up that prediction I think the day off could help both teams if you the ask George W. pitching if you the New York Yankees get a chance to maybe get a little mo Jo back at the having a bad slow down losing game two and game three either way took the toll the after the better team but I believe were wins game four win ALCS I think with that team is going to be the Yankees may because I picking the winner six I'm not going to back down from the production right after those in seven sticking with the Astros in seven I don't care who wins game four the is starting pitching to me is the key to any post season team surviving in advancing as a great Jim Bob on a one seven kind came the NC double a tournament surviving advancing in M. L. B. post season all about starting pitching to me and the the best rotation the best horses on the hill goes easily with the Astros and wears game seven in Houston if we get there that's it that's the kicker right there for me is if the if the giving gets to Houston and then for the Yankees in the E. if it goes seven that's their long relievers and when they become leverage real relievers when I never heard of that before tonight before you mention that four different stories I read today will leverage really quick what noted is is is is like mold management became part of it and yeah looks at this and everything in long re yeah leave our yeah or just read the verse they haven't had to use on and three more than three figurines all season now you can ask them to go for for the first time ever with everything on the line and you put that pressure on you also we about stress innings right in stressful pitches in well this is a little bit more stressful than they've had to go through the entire regular season so to me it's all about the starting lineup Yankee fans they don't want to hear it but great he has not been good the post season but I got some guy even if you win game forty Riverland there in five then another duty may have to face call Gerrit Cole who is like the modern day version of sandy Koufax right now you've been unavailable since may so he scuffled by his standards with five walks in seven innings that's coupling is scuffling but the Yankees lineup will make you sick awful I don't believe the Yankees are intimidated or afraid of these guys now I agree with that as well then we don't have the Yankees getting in touch with their inner symbols cardinals and the national back like Houston Astros because the national thoroughly intimidated the Saint Louis cardinals that team was beat up on the feet of the metagame for even got started they had no chance of winning that game even they tried to make a comeback at the being now seven nothing I think the Yankees fully believe having a day off would be the perfect a mixer for them to get everything right because there's not a pitching staff that they don't believe that they can't handle no matter how terrific those guys are lander Reekie as well as call he's if it's in the Freddie Coleman Freddie if it's Simmons on ESPN radio Sirius XM channel eighty of the yanks are going to knock a who was sensational the start this series in game four but he doesn't go a third term through the line up because the analytic geeks say well when he goes through a third time in the line up they they're hitting three oh nine if the guys in a groove right you mean the mother figure out what he's tipping or what he's missing in that third time through you have as many brains watching all these stats and in every game figure it out but in this situation may have to knock a is it in a groove you leave him in there but they don't want to do it they haven't done it and now Freddie it's one that drives me nuts you know right you got this guy who's who's dealing through sex you probably because the numbers say so that that drives me insane the Astros don't do that even though there is number geeky is anybody maybe even more so than anyone out there right now to get involved with trying to steal secrets on the cardinals when they used to work for them all about **** now that'll to do holes what two hundred articles on again but AJ Hinch is one of those guys that's also eyeball if you're rolling man you're sticking but I'm a sticking with you so that's why I like it the Astros you no matter who wins who wins tonight I think that that that that night all this postponement favors distros because now you've got green key Enver lander both on regular rest and then you still have even have great he has gone up the skirt a couple times obviously the post season you've got overlander and coal Berlin under in coal you got to win two games I would put my money on those two over whatever the yanks so out in a leverage relievers and then you want to throw at the astronaut I look at it this way by the way we had read Ryan the present Houston Astros he joins earlier on Freddie if it's Simmons he knows exactly how good these Yankees team is and he knows this service is far from over you know I love it it's it's a great great route your current kicks back to fifteen we played in the wild card it obviously seventeen we win the World Series but what what a great seven game series the home team won one all the games and this year we we took four out of seven from home and you know we won three at home they won the first it was the final game of the season that that you know we ended up winning and here in New York and so all of these games get their nip and tuck it's a dog fight and just because we're out to one side does not mean that that this thing is over if it were a cruise control because that team their Yankee Stadium they're stacked we've got arms they've got power they've got great players all over the place cash did a great job with that club together and looking around and got a couple of stood on the bump and that we got you got you can swing it pretty good it was amazing that when the Yankees won game one everybody's like while they beat the daylights out of the Astros which they did in game one no doubt winning seven nothing the Astros win game two in game three the Astros are in control of this series of bacon all on a second control be three one to me yeah two one they're not in control of the service as I was yeah that me it if you're gonna use that tack with the out of being in control is saying that the Astros are in control my god Ian watching the MOB network watch ESPN and others forgot the baseball people on TV and was on radio all many **** how control is there's a two one you'd be amazed how many times I heard that today they got the point us okay I'm I'm not gonna be part of definition sandy with this kind of stupidity going out there get that one game in the series means you're in control no it doesn't I think this thing's going seven it's going to be epic then the only reason I like the strokes is because of what we read Ryan just mentioned there those two horses they've got on the hill Enver lander and cold at the Yankee still have to face what is your major league baseball you need this to go seven the NASA took care of business if you got a potential rivalry like this with the met in the playoffs two thousand fifteen two thousand seventeen and now two thousand nineteen you get a seven game series and now you have a cross country robbery so to speak was not these two teams in the same division or two teams on the same coast you got the big Ole boys in New York City and a good Ole country boys down Houston colliding in the series if you have that kind of heat that you can generate you could potentially have your latter day forty Niners cowboys or paid many versus Tom Brady because you got a big city I got a bigger city without a baseball city when it comes to Houston if his goal seven it could do Major League Baseball a world of good that they could have never imagined and never even had to beg borrow or steal if the Yankees Astros give us and Major League Baseball with the looking

"Before I was just throwing the three Goldschmidt goldsmiths protected by Bryce who's protected by sooner. That's pretty kick ass three in your lineup. The fact that goldies in that lineup already. I think Goldschmidt in Saint Louis cardinals. I mean, if you think about the epitome of a Saint Louis cardinal, the the type of player, isn't it him? Is it always been him? Not just having to play in Arizona for a few years. Yeah. It's funny. Mentally sound. Every breaks defense perfect club out. Like literally the perfect clubhouse guy giants killer to God every time. He's in a slump was a slump using hitting low two hundred actually use below two hundred. Yeah. It was. Rakes? Oh, it kicked the giants. Who do you own the most Tim Lindsey Graham? Oh, that's cool. He's sucked at the end. I raped him. When he was at his highest when he was winning the Cy youngs. By the way, I was raking him. That's what Paul Goldschmidt said every day, actually, really didn't say anything doesn't talk a lot. Okay. This is going to get interesting overnight. See look. A little bit of me is like, okay, I leave it. I don't believe it. I don't believe it because this night. But at the same time information, we know now is getting out more and more and more. I know, but this is the type of information where if you connect the dots. You you have were brace has been located. Where's he lived his Vegas? That'd be Vegas source. What are we talking about here? This is all real can't believe this is called the barrage news signing with Philadelphia or whoever take him off the board. All right. That's the MLB this show it saying you've been on this account tomorrow. I bet it happens in the morning. "Such, but we have some offseason things to discuss Goldschmidt being traded from the Diamondbacks to the cardinals, but coaching signing a three year deal. With the Phillies is Harper going anywhere. Where's he going much hotter as well? In the winter meetings in the main major league baseball is coming to a close. So we gotta get a lot. We got all that to talk about. Let's first start with the Goldschmidt trade though, as he's been traded to the Zona from there's an diamondback excuse me to the Saint Louis cardinals. I almost said Arizona Cardinals because that's a team as well. That's also kind of confusing, but he goes from the dome Bex with the cardinals. And does this turn the cardinals into another playoff a World Series contender yet again, or is this like one of those things where you signed? So on that's veteran hoping to gain momentum. But it will work out. I think this is a great move for the cardinals. I don't know if this pushes them into a contender status, but it definitely elevates where they were. They could definitely still make some moves to their in on Harper. They're one of the teams that is is expected to be on the shortlist for Bryce Harper. They've mentioned that they're going after him. So imagine if they were able to get Goldschmidt and Harper and one off season, if they did I mean that could be an incredible start to their off-season as they approach to two thousand nineteen in this franchise has get back into that mix of winning championships. Yeah. And the cardinals are no stranger to championships over the last twenty years. They've won one zero six one one twenty eleven they were in the World Series in twenty thirteen losing to the Red Sox. So this team has no is no stranger to title contending Mnuchin moves in the last few years. But again, they're they're in a nationally that is has been getting. But I dunno Goldschmidt is at the enemies career. I feel like and this feels like a last ditch effort to win. Now type feeling is a perennial like MVP candidate those ones as at the end of his career. He's still getting up there in age though. We can't deny that. Yeah. I'm just saying it's like one of these. It's kind of one of these movers instead of thinking about rebuilding. They're still thinking about reading winning now. I mean, they traded some prospects to win now. And you know, a lot of a lot of pundits have had their opinions on the trade in most people say that the cardinals didn't give up a hole for somebody who can win an MVP award. But it's all agree with that..

"Thank you, Andy pretty Andro. I feel like the theme has already been set here is that I'm going to be the whipping boy, you know, Dan has a legitimate career. And I do whatever it is that I do. But we're thrilled is to Saint Gabriel hoodlums to be together, and it working on this this event, which is the bud select QNA tonight with our guests who will join us soon. John Zarrella, God, we hope he shows up. If not we're filling for the next ninety minutes, probably refunding, your money and south Saint Louis is being rep tonight. That's exciting. It is the hot stove show. And we are excited to do this. We're going to be doing a number of these throughout the season. And. You know, we can ask to John mosaic lock. I guess, you know, whether or not it was the right move to release, Greg arsia and. That's about a half hour of the. I'm sure we'll probably dive into that. And maybe Bryce Harper pure. We'll probably get into that. But it is an interesting time of year because you know, the the GM meetings are really the groundwork for what happens for really the the winter meetings in baseball, and then you get into just before spring training. And then all of a sudden spring training hits in some of the players are at least last year unsigned and then they went into the regular season unsigned. So it's kind of a fascinating year. And I don't know about you guys. I find this year to be really a fascinating year in particular for the Saint Louis cardinals. They have so many arms, and they are the NBA baseball in many ways because they're pitching is so good in every team needs pitching. And if you've watched the postseason the last couple of years every team it seems like it's like the last man standing I mean, Chris sale is finishing out a World Series two years ago. It was. Who's left in the bullpen to finish out the World Series? So you can never have enough pitching. The cardinals have a surplus of that. And I find that absolutely fascinating. Now, if you're here, and you're wondering about John mosaic law, John is at a meeting right now you promises to raise here. We're going to have probably thirty to forty minutes. We are live by the way on Twitter and Facebook and with you guys. So we're going to interact with the audience on the interwebs. And also with you guys we've got questions to and when John gets here, we'll do that. And John is amazing in these types of settings. He's very open and honest in we look forward to when he shows up, and we have a chance to visit with with MO. Yeah. And we encourage everybody for real to ask questions, the the little microphone stand over there at the front of the room, the front your front left is where we will take your questions. So please feel comfortable asking questions whenever whether they be for John Mozelle airlock for myself for Dan. That's what this is about. It's the first time Dan Meyer doing our QNA here at the improv shop, but it's also our first hot stove show. It's something that Dan, and I kinda rebuilding on from last year's live from spring training, and because of how much interest there is in this year's off season. We decided to do this starting in November. Because this I think is one of the most critical off seasons for the cardinals that I can recall. I mean, you've been calling games now going back to what you're I began. Well, this should be my twenty second year affiliated with the cardinals coming up twenty two years. "There was a stat wants that every generation going back to like the twenties. Every so many years with the Saint Louis cardinals. They win a World Series buddies. And I joke all the time every year, we are got. I'd love to see a giants dodgers LCS. And I say every year it won't be dodgers. Because the cardinals are going like, it doesn't matter. Eighty three wins one hundred and three wins cardinals end up there this year, an exception though. And it's got me feeling like this day now with this with the Boston Red Sox for a team that had gone to the to the the World Series multiple times since their nineteen eighteen Babe Ruth curse and lost in game seven every one of those times until two thousand four when they make it happen. They had lost a World Series sense. Brings me to that moment in the opening opening of a new hope the first Star Wars movie episode for help me OBI wan kanobi. You're my only hope helping Alex Cora Boston Red Sox. You are only hope now it seems like against the LA dodgers unless Josh Hader can can plus some tweets on the hands. Dave. And also Alex core. He's the first Puerto Rican born manager to lead a team to the World Series, incredible knowledge. Good insight. He had a comment last night. After the game. He said when I first got here. All I wanted was a plane of goods and supplies for my hometown in Puerto Rico, so cool to see Alex Cora get to the World Series. I'm not sure yet. How good of a manager is like Brennan Nathan if all the last night, he he did start David price on short rest, which we will have to get into. And and and I pulled an article from Boston because I didn't want the national perspective on this David price thing. This is a guy who signed a two hundred and seventeen million dollar contract three years ago and has been absolutely crucified in Boston. You think about the I mean in his first eleven starts and his postseason career. He Don Owen nine in his first nineteen overall postseason appearances he was two and nine with an ERA over five damn near five and a half. This was his first scoreless outing in a postseason start in twelve playoff starts. He's pitching on three days rest. Remember he had that that? Spat with Dennis Eckersley last year. You remember that Dave? And then he refused to apologize for it. And people in Boston architect Stanford that plus Atkins doing the broadcast. So David price was not well liked. So I decided I wanted to go to the Boston Globe. I want to Dan Shaughnessy. I wanted to see what he had to say. I did we just do not get writing like this. And this is not a a a damnation or coming down on any of our. Bayer writers you just don't get the same content here for David price. You goes into the sixth inning scoreless. Baseball gives you the first scoreless outing of his performance. Remember the other night when that game ended after what A M eastern time. David price is. Up in the bullpen in the eighth and the ninth inning warm enough getting greased up trying to come in on even shorter rest heat opin pitching on two days rest. He comes in for the for the the ace Chris sale potential Cy Young guy yesterday for the three days. Rest start and has a dominant performance was electric last night. Dan, Shaughnessy does not mince words in a older. You could think about this in Boston. He writes. Wow. And then he says what will we do? Now that we don't have David price to kick around anymore. You win the pennant your fourth pennant since two thousand four after the whole I just won't one. Just gimme one before. I die. We got to break the curse of the Bambino. He got past the New York Yankees. You get past the hundred and eight win Houston Astros. And all they can think about is. Well, damn who are we gonna kick around? Now. Now, we got nobody to come down on even goes on. And he says it a sport that worships Mr. October, Mr. price was Mr. may, Mr. Jude and Mr..

"I big thanks to body Crosby for coming on starting nine here today. There's a lot of fun. I I wasn't. I didn't know what to expect. You know, we're talking to a guy who played for the Oakland a.'s with a guy who played for the Oakland a.'s and I was like, oh, this might be some overwhelming as some some ball tickling going on wasn't really that much. It was more just throwing it back. Couple guys talking a couple of guys. Just yuck ended up just bullshitting just rehashing. It's all just some dust. Yeah. Hey, Jay. Pretty good. If today take a lap in the show, then putting into right headed better to hit for you, what your pity for me is he your left-hander and so is the pitchy is ice end up a right handed batter, it's called playing the percentages. It's what smart manages to win ballgames. But I've got nine hole Russ today. You should be very proud of yourself. Sit down Simpson, you'll betting trumpeting. You can do. It's that fucking time time. All the Homer minute. We start with today. Well, why don't you just wait on just you just sit back, sit back and wait. Let's see. Saint Louis cardinals or like that one gif of undertaker where he rises out of the coffin and raises from the den, and our pallbearer is none. Other than interim manager might show. He might look like a sixty year old baby. Let me tell you something about that. He knows how to freaking manage the cardinals now a bullpen that actually functions. Well, instead of having twenty one year old Jordan exit from Lee, throw his on out under dumb ass. Messini Harrison Vader out here making the legend plays center field hitting almost two ninety when he couldn't hit close to twenty earlier in the year. It's something that we haven't seen before here in Saint Louis, beautiful thing. We're stealing bases and proper situations or going. I third on basis, we're playing baseball heart and not playing boring station to station ball. It's a beautiful thing and under this management and something that I love to see great pod boys, love the here and keep on keeping on all right, lot of cards love to, you know. You know, sometimes we, you know the guys who come in like it's WWE with all the cursing. Those are great. Yeah, but that one was on point, right? Yes, that was very on point, fair analysis, fear criticisms. Passionate is. Well, that's what we're fucking here for this. This next one I won't say depressing, but that's. Let's go guys Mariners fan here. So they wrote me in with hope back in two thousand one when I was four years old love in the game of baseball when one hundred sixteen games. And I thought this is gonna be my team forever and ever since then they have continued to be my low expectations every single and this season is now no different. I really thought in may and June that maybe this could be the year. They make the playoffs and make it a little bit of a run and end this drought. But in the back of my head, the cynic in me was waiting for the epic collapse and the regression towards the means. And here we are once again, I have prepared myself for this, but it still doesn't make any more fucking sad that you're here. It is again and only are the Mariners not gonna play starting the fucking division because the swinging as our back. And yeah, congratulations to your team. Enjoy the playoffs. Enjoy October, make some fucking k. off in the American League, I love it. I mentioned paired for it and just like every other Mariners fan we are without a. In the fight Brock over. Thanks guys love the podcast. I actually, I genuinely feel bad for Mariners fans because I don't. I'll call. I know Dallas firstly doesn't 'cause he he's benefiting from this, but I was excited to see the Mariners get in like, I even think that there was a point. I don't even know. It might have been like Junish or it's like, yeah, you know, like we're talking about Robinson, canola PD suspension gotta get it back for the postseason. And obviously when he comes back, you're gonna want to be playing every day. So you can, you know further, you know, get a bigger lead and here come the fucking as here come the fuck and Hayes..

"Obviously, this is kind of the point that you're making a little bit met Adams going back to the Saint Louis cardinals. You know what we're talking about different teams in in in, you know. So if you if you claim a player on revoke Qabail waivers that team can either hand over said player. You can trade for the player or the team can just pull him back, no harm, no foul. Nothing happens, but then he's no longer able to be traded. At that point, they have to clear waivers to be traded to any team if they are claiming that can be traded to the team, the claims. But in the case of the cardinals I'm looking at Daniel Murphy, right? And Daniel Murphy goes to the cubs a team that needs someone in the infield for multiple reasons. Obviously, you have that as an Russell injury, the Chris Bryant injury. But when you look at the cardinals infield, I see no real openings for for Matt Adams. This is not an American League team. He can't h. You have potentially the National League MVP at first base. So there's no real. This is simply a, we need this. This pop off the off the bench for the postseason. He is our younger version of Matt stairs. It's got an eight forty. Two Opie s this year is eighteen homers. So this is a guy that can certainly help the Saint Louis cardinals. Once October rolls around this is a pure rental player for for bench purposes. So when you talk about like the aug waiver deals, you see some guys potentially. I don't know what the did it was. It was it officially named the dodgers where the team that claimed Bryce Harper? Yes, so, but it was it expired, so that's not going to happen, but there there is potential for mega-deals. We've seen that in the past to the dodgers claimed Adrian Gonzales and call Crawford and Josh Beckett. And then there's a blockbuster deal guys still under long-term contracts. But most of the time it's, you know, you're trying to get rental player. So in the case of ad. Dems going to the cardinals. You're looking at a pure. This is a bench option for for gearing up for the postseason. Yeah, that's. That's all it is nothing more. I mean, we've seen the cardinals right now who are fucking white-hot by the way, not carpenter guy. You talk about putting team took about Bryce Harper, trying to put a team on his back. Those those records book. That's all this is rob. That's all it is is very procuring power from the left side, man, it's it's a commodity. People need it and he's got postseason experience wouldn't necessarily call it great. But he has four home runs in twenty six postseason games. So I like the move. I like the move for the Saint Louis cardinals. Any other thoughts on these? Yes, j. we've hit it on this podcast but just put a final point on it what a disappointing season for the Washington nationals. Oh, yeah. I mean, I believe their playoff odds which are not gospel, but to start the season where over ninety percent and they were about twelve percent, I believe at the time that they officially wave the white flag hundred eighty million dollar payroll. "I just put on his his little league team won last night headed of semi final this weekend they won eleven to two he said i said hey you kind of saint louis cardinals them eleven to two loss for the giants last night i need more from this offense man they're they're they're now five games back in the loss column to the dodgers who are up in first place giants now they're only they're only three and a half out but sitting there five days back in the loss column with three teams in front of you is is the tough one having to jump that many teams here now i said it just a minute ago this was all supposed to be about coming home and facing right handed pitching but you can't make that excuse when you just don't go out and hit and it's not like they're not just hitting with reuters and scoring position like they were in the beginning of the season you're not hitting it all now you've got an ace getting lit up which that is the least of my words johnny cueto gift the least of my worries because you got games like he did last week in colorado where you got a young a young lefty in suarez comes out and absolutely deals and he takes a loss because you can't score a run madison bumgarner what one read aloud couldn't score many runs they lose two to one or whatever they give up their score one run for him in colorado you gotta get more this offense has got to give us more when you're paying these big guys you bring in a guy like mccutchen you give up prospects for them if it's not working you gotta find something else and i'm not saying one game is the reason it's not working he's been okay his splits on the road but he's not a all star like andrew mccutchen he's not tearing up this team and tearing up the league and he's an irreplaceable player in the field he hasn't done anything spectacular for this offense so far this season he's won him some games they definitely have extended the lineup it's a more dangerous lineup to last year certainly but is it a lineup that can compete now with the dodgers that are getting healthy and get right i'm not sure i don't know i really do not know and they're doing it without cory seager by the way so this whole injury thing doesn't doesn't hold up they did a part of the year without a without clayton kershaw they weather the storm without justin turner for a big chunk of the season and they've weather the storm the giants do not have any excuses here they've got to get better they've gotta start hitting and bocce thinks it'll it'll come around some sovereign name in just a minute we've got people checking on the text line it seems like a swing speed on most hitters is slow that might have been the case last night i think luke weaver was kinda gassing guys last night he was throwing a lot of change which is really his money pitch and he's got a good fastball but he can rear back and he was doing that in to strike crew was talking about it though out talking about that at one point made a great point is that when you when you throw a lot of change ups and you kind of groove at at ninety two ninety three with your fastball and then when you get a two strikeout rear back and you can bring what at ninety five ninety six ninety seven that's like having a an entirely different pitch that's like having two different changes you'd have changed speeds on a guy three times that's what they mean about changing speeds effectively you can really jump on a guy to strike out with another fastball rear back and throw it harder and and that's what made luke weaver successfully yesterday he was placing his pitches there was that awkward moment where pablo sandoval drew a walk or was issued a walk and that dude i i don't know that i've ever seen that before i seem to have a little league where you know you take you start to take a walk down the there's no no no you only have three bucks has three one come on back here well pablo did it takes the third ball starts taking his gear off and heads down to first and then the the cardinals started barking from the dugout said whoa whoa whoa dude is not out four balls only three balls.

"Fear here was the fear of not letting players get involved is of course the fear of throwing a game which happened in one thousand nine hundred the world series with saint louis cardinals i think chicago blocks i knew that one of those chicago saint louis c right next to each other the the point is on this one is that the fear is exactly what you said all of a sudden people are gonna throw games realistically do you think that's going to happen i think it has already happened we know that there was an nba official tim donigi who was involved in a point shaving scandal with the nba they say wasn't conspiracy that he acted alone but there is a historical precedent it's happened on the collegiate level with arizona state basketball so there are reasons to be concerned and as there are so now even billions of dollars pouring into this and you have the burgeoning debate about whether college players should be paid there's going to be even more of an enticement for people to fall prey to this all right so let's talk about what this actually means in terms of sports betting other than the possibility of throwing a game and that is las vegas is going to get hurt pretty badly on this because they'll be sports books all over the country well there it used to be where you have only off track betting for horse racing and they'll smaller casinos like we had at hollywood park but now it opens up those tracks to have just to be a fullblown sportsbook you could i don't know how the zonings going to work but you can have a sportsbook virtually anywhere at this point and so it it negates the need for us to drive to las vegas to do our prompt bits for mma or anything else it's interesting how las vegas and owners casino sheldon adelson fought like crazy every measure to legalize gambling in california was fought fought mainly on moral grounds which is hilarious las vegas fought gambling because of the morality funniest thing in the world but you pointed out this is really that big a deal because ninety seven percent of the betty in this country is illegal anyway and is it gonna stop office pools who say you go to a sportsbook who would actually go to a sportsbook tibet on a football game.
