The city of Saint Louis has a significant size black population, the largest in the state, the largest concentration in the state, and it is moving to a place now where the city government is getting to a place. "And you're just heading back in just take it easy out there on a dark and gloomy today. But at least it'll be forty four degrees. So we have that going for us. In writing us here in Studio B is Charlie Brennan, Charlie Brennan show, we take or yet. We say forty four degrees in our favor. Yeah. Well, it's better than what was it this time yesterday. It was like seventeen degrees. It's all relative Thirdly as and Brad young partner with the law firm, Harris Dowell, Fisher and young good morning. Good morning. All right. We are. We've got some interesting local issues to jump into here. Let's start with Saint Louis Lambert international airport. Saint Louis alderman, Karen Spencer introduced legislation that would have required. A public vote for privatizing. The airport, however, alderman sitting on the transportation and commerce committee turned it down on a vote of three two two Charlie should the public have a right to vote on the future of Lambert Airport. A sure thing so it's the city's biggest asset from what I understand generates about six or seven million dollars a year in revenue to the city, and it's vitally important to the region. There's a plan to privatize it why the city doesn't want it to go in front of the voters escapes me. And it's almost similar to what mayor crews instead of Don March last week when he said, hey, is it possible that there will be a statewide vote approving? Merger between the city and the county and the city and the county are going to vote against it. And it didn't seem to matter to her said. Yeah, that that could happen. She seems to have little regard for public votes, and the will the people in the city of Saint Louis, and what happened here, which I thought was extraordinarily interesting and the honesty was so refreshing giancarlos, Mohammad a member of the board of aldermen told CARA Spencer, the measures backer that he was not voting for it. Because she did not support him on a measure limiting the size of the board of aldermen or expanding at one or the other. So he was horse trading said unit vote for my project. I'm not voting for years. And so he sunk it, and I I believe those things happen, but rarely are public officials so honest and candid about how they operate. It doesn't bother me at all that there's there's a there's a push to not have a public vote on this. That's why we have a Representative democracy. There are lots of issues that require specialized information, lots of research that the general public is simply not going to have. And so that's why we elect officials to make these kinds of decisions for us. It's a Representative democracy. So it doesn't bother me at all that the may not be a vote on this. Frankly, I don't know all the issues the ins and outs of the issues of privatizing and airport, and I would suggest that most of the of the folks in the city of Saint Louis don't know all of those issues either. And so that's why we have elected officials to to get into the weeds for us on issues like this. You're actually assuming that those elected officials will no more than the people on the street. And Brad, my good friend. You say you may be ignorant about it that doesn't mean that people who live and work in Saint Louis or those who live in Saint Louis are ignorance on the matters affecting the privatization of the airport. In fact, I'm. I'm impressed by a lot of the callers, and re tweets from people who seem to be really fully aware of what's going on when it comes to privatization. I'm afraid when we say, oh, let's leave it to the experts because the holy Pulawy, the the people on the streets don't have information. But then the problem then arises, Charlie where do you draw the line? I mean at some point now are we going to have a public vote on whether we have trash pickup twice a week or three times a week. I mean at some point it be it would stop and cease being a Representative democracy if everything has to go to the individual citizens. Well, if everything did go that would be pretty awkward in trash pickup. I think that there's pretty much consensus that that trash should be picked up, but this is a high this of three billion dollar project, and it greatly affects the future the Saint Louis, and I'm just not sure why officials are afraid of putting it in front of voters, except for the fact that they probably know that there's one person jelly wants. To privatize it now, it'd be wreck Sinfield, and he'd probably be outvoted greatly in the city Saint Louis. I'm actually just surprised that they voted it down simply because there was so much outcry on the board of alderman before it seemed there were so many saying we need to have oh we need to we need to be in on this. And then then they changed their minds money talks. We'll see what happens. This is another very interesting thing that Kevin Kaleen brought to our attention yesterday. And you may have heard the stories this morning, but apparently estate grand jury is looking at evidence suggesting perjury was committed by circuit attorney Kim gardeners team during the run up to the Eric brightens case. And with a court appointed special prosecutor in charge. The grand jury has been hearing evidence in downtown courtroom for several weeks Gardner has denied any wrongdoing. Brad at the circuit attorneys team did commit perjury. What happens then what what what should be done? Well, it'd be much like what you saw with the air grinds case itself and that. Has either resign or we're going to pursue charges? And remember there's video evidence of this situation. The entire case surrounds weather, Mr. Tisby, the FBI investigator took notes or not he did take notes there was video of him taking notes and having notes and yet he denied that he ever took notes and Kim Gardner was sitting right next to him in the video. So the question becomes what she suborning perjury. And when you've got video evidence, that's that's what makes the case today is video evidence that they do have that. And this is on top of the sixty three thousand dollars ethics fine. From earlier this month that was levied against Kim gardeners campaign. So she has lots of issues, and what should be done. This is obviously moving towards having her to resign from office. We'll see if that happens. Yeah. The it wouldn't make any difference. Of course, except that the attorneys for greitens had said, we want all of your notes and the prosecutor said, we don't take notes you can. And then the video showed he was taking notes as you. You say Brad, she was watching him take the notes, and they'd both denied any notes had been taken. So there should be. I don't think there's going to be jail time. But something should happen came away. Kyw news time eight thirty nine we need to take a look at traffic and weather together. We'll be back for round two of overtime up to.
