It's decay laurie. there's certain series at the building. I'd like to see restored back to summer is nowadays for example right off the their face. There's room that we know is providence. Find them near the mouthwash. Welcome to brain stuff from how stuff works. Hey, brain Steph, Lauren vocal bomb here. Have you ever heard of a group of ferrets called a business of ferrets or a collection of jellyfish referred to as a smack of jellyfish? What about shrewdness of apes? We use collective nouns also known as nouns of assemblage to describe all sorts of groups hosts of angels bands of men and shocks of corn. Are commonly heard these days, but the nouns associated with particular groupings of animals can get weird fast because words in their uses are invented by people when we see a bunch of specific construction, you can bet on it being the result of a language fad and sure enough five hundred years ago, nouns of semblage were all the rage. We spoke via Email with Magdalen Jacobs a PHD candidate in the Vanderbilt University department of hearing and speech sciences. She said these are generally terms that came about from upper class hunting culture in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. They're called terms of Venneri, and they're linked to north. And culture and influence into the idea of proper hunting language over one hundred and sixty terms of Venneri are listed in book of Saint Albans, a wildly popular at the time manners guide published in fourteen eighty six the coached the medieval gentlemen through having conversations about hunting falconry fishing sports in heraldry without embarrassing himself at dinner parties. These collective nouns are found in a chapter entitled the companies of beasts and fowls though, some of the terms referred to people rather than animals a bit of a joke. The book Saint Alban's not only described a sleuth of bears and a skulk of FOX's, but also linked women to geese in the collective consciousness by labeling collections of both Gakhal's. According to Jacobs, this is partially because there is a direct linguistic link from the word gaggle to the middle English word for cackle, a collection of wives was labeled and impatience a group of writers on the other hand was called a worship if language tells us how to think about the world we conceive fifteenth. Century European gentleman's social priorities, though. Of course because you can't keep the kids for making up slaying. Once the construction was introduced in the book of Saint Albans, people started coining their own nouns of semblage. Although a lot of these terms slipped into obscurity in the sixteenth century like much of the lingo, we generate on a continual basis. Some of them were adopted into common speech these days. We don't often have occasion to talk about a sneer of butlers or misbelief of portrait painters, but whoever came up with a staff of employee's a congregation of churchgoers or a panel of judges should congratulate themselves on a job well done linguistically. Speaking. A much of the time that correct term for a group of anything. Let us know our collective views on the disposition of whatever we're naming some of the most evocative terms of veteran can be found in birds the book of Saint Albans lists and unkindness of ravens and a murder of crows, definitely creepy negatives. But a charm finches adorable, whoever I referred to a college of cardinals was probably suggesting they thought the group of little red birds looked like a meeting of academics. But why a group of storks is called a mustering is a little less clear. See us Lewis coined the term parliament of als in children's book series, the chronicles of narnia a nod to chaucer's poem, a parliament of fowls. The term is now recognized in dictionaries is being the correct term for a group of AL's. There are meanwhile, few nouns of assemblage for insects mentioned in the book of Saint Albans, we still refer to a swarm of bees which was recorded in the book, but we don't talk as much about a business of flies or a flock of lice. If you've ever heard of a kindle of kittens that comes in the middle English word kindling, which meant to give birth or produce a litter which was originally used only for puppies. But is now commonly used for all kinds baby animals, a group of adult cats might be a glaring or a pounce, but crowd of feral cats is a distraction anyone concerned about the decline of migrating songbirds can understand why that might be. Dogs, which were as much a man's best friend in the middle ages. As today got a lot of play in the book of Saint Albans, hunting hounds alone got several group titles. A cry a mute a pack and a kennel. Some of the most inventive terms of entry are plied to wild animals Jacobs said because they began as hunting terms, the original names from the book of Saint Albans reflected a specific societal disposition towards the animal being hunted. A pride of lions is a good example others that came later such as a wisdom of wombats may be inaccurate. As wombats are rather solitary and don't spend time in groups, others likely referred to qualities of the animals themselves, a business affairs came from a business affair, it's which makes more sense than business. If you've spent any time at all watching ferrets. These days folks continue to make up new nouns of assemblage and bring back old ones. Thus we can talk about April of hedgehogs an obstinacy of buffalo a bloat of hippos and a game of Wales regardless of whether we're planning on hunting them or not. "That's actually what they make. I heard that at night. Yeah. Creeped me out, but you know. Dark cry from the under- world. No. I don't think. So I don't think. So that's that's not that terrifying. To me. In a perfect in a perfect world. It would sound like this. It'd be awesome. If this is how the bird actually sounded. I don't I. I I did toll putting Tweety bird out there. Trying to tend to be moss man, scare folks come out tweets come right over here and kiss the pool. Booty you make everything better, though, Tweety bird. Come here, comma, and it'll Bodey love it. He's how long has it been since you hear about Tweety? Okay. So the next day November twenty six in Saint Albans, West Virginia, I'm going to get rid of these. So I don't actually play them during the show. Just out of Charleston, forty five miles south of point pleasant. Mrs Ruth foster claims now that the Mothman is appearing on her front lawn. The evening on November twenty six was standing beside the port. She told reporters it was tall with big red is the popped out of its face. My husband is six feet one. This bird looked about the same height or maybe a little shorter. She continued it had a funny little face. I didn't see any big all I saw those big red. Poppy is I screamed read back into the house. My brother-in-law went out to look, but it was gone. Okay. All right. So Zamissa foster may have seen a bird vote bird with his encounter when she talks about how having a tiny little face. But some of the other people are either truly lying or really hyped up a bird in their minds. If it's not a monster. The next day in Saint Albans on November twenty seven two teenage girls allegedly chased by gray seven foot tall creature a Sheila Kane age thirteen or younger sister were walking home from the store when they saw an enormous something standing next to the local junkyard. It was gray and white with big red is Sheila reported, and it must have been seven feet tall taller than a man. I screamed we ran home it flew up in the air and followed us part of the way Connie Joe carpenter eighteen year old witness or eighteen year waitress at tiny diner and point pleasant now village pizza also claimed to have an encounter with Mothman on the twenty twenty-seven Connie Joe describe was described as a shy studious girl of eighteen from New Haven claim to have the encounter ten thirty AM on Sunday, November twenty seven driving home from church when she saw. But I thought it was a large man dressed in grey stand on the deserted links of the Mason county golf course again on route a route sixty to fifty miles north of point pleasant. Ten foot wings, suddenly unfolded. The thing took off straight up and headed for car. Those is they were very red. And once they were fixed on me. I couldn't take my own eyes off of them. It's a wonder have a wreck. She declared carnage. Oh, said the creature flew directly to windshield, then veered off and disappeared. She stepped on the gas and raced home hysteria. Locked herself in a bedroom. Those is that's all she ever say was does is her boyfriend would later say she was so upset she wasn't a she was unable to go to school for several days and required medical attention. She was also she also suffered from an ailment afterwards called Clea conductive conjuncture virus or iber n-. Her eyes were red swollen itchy with water coming out of them for two weeks. Miss carpenter was also one of the few claim a close look at the mock man's face. Ain't it was horrible like something of a science fiction movie, many years later in two thousand one when filmmakers making these search for the Mothman documentary wanted to talk to her about it. She declined said, I guess she's still traumatized her husband keys, acre whose boyfriend at the time of the siding spoke on her behalf saying I'd like people to understand that..

"This is large golf and the Saudi Arabians are the Sunnis and the Shias or Iran and one thing about Iran, they directly and indirectly killed thousands of American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, especially in Iraq with their ideas. And what their soldiers right now as we speak in Syria. There's battles going on between the Syrian government and the Iranians on one side against against the Kurds and the Americans on the other side. And that indirectly we are like fighting the Iranian people. But the fact that the Iranian leadership has financed the killing of thousands of American soldiers in Iraq. Then you have a leader very close to democratic leadership Louis Farrakhan going to Iran to talk about that to America and kill the Americans. It's despicable as seditious is is being a traitor, and he's gonna come back to this country. And I'm sure at the end of this year or next year. He's gonna make other appearances with leadership of the Democratic Party, including one Keith Ellison, congressman. In Minnesota who who's a friend of his and they run around together. And I could not imagine the news media allowing some big time Republican to run around with those with the different political viewpoints and not to be held accountable. It looks to me as if Louis Farrakhan is evil when it comes to the defensive this great country and what he's doing in Iran. What he did this past week what he's gonna do the rest of this year is the antithesis of what project Twenty-one black leadership stands for which is individual liberty and things of that character. An I I knew going in that, you know, the people in this town, are are very very knowledgeable is sports or concern and very respectful to and and I think that's what those guys appreciated when they when they came here and had an opportunity to see these people, and it was from it was from Monday to Sunday, you know, it those people showed up every day, they were very respectful, and I think it showed very well for the city Mawasi, we want you to feel the impact of the PGA reach gateway. PGA reach foundation has their gala and pro-am Sunday October seventh at the Ritz Carlton hotel and Monday, October eighth at the country club of Saint Albans. There's an event Sunday nights with Marcus Allen, Eric Dickerson and Ozzy a great round table discussion between the three of them and a great chance to raise some money for the foundation and then Monday, go. Golf, and that's a program. So you're gonna have the gateway sections amazing. Isn't it so active and many professionals will be participating Ozzy all of these guys? And that's what's so great about this this community. You know, you you gotta take your head off to the pros here in the area who take part in and give of their time and energy. And you know, the another big part of what we do too is one of our pillars that we've gotten involved in in the last three or four years, and and and got gotta take my hat off to Allie wells, who is now the executive director, we've gotten veterans involved in this program to and I can't tell you how how thankful and how grateful they are. Because a lot of those guys who had problems after they come back from the war and stuff were all they were shut in. And what golf is done is is allowed them to get back out into the public. And he's giving them giving them their lives back. So that's one of the things I'm very very proud of. And that part of the pro. Is continuing to grow, and we're helping them as much as we possibly can to. So are are pillars or or inclusion diversity and veterans and PJ reach foundation with young people, and we're trying to help as many people as we possibly can show.
