Marine Recounts 'Catastrophic' US Withdrawal From Afghanistan
"The foreign relations committee in the House of Representatives. Did a hearing on our withdrawal, our botched withdrawal from Afghanistan. And it was emotional. It was jaw dropping, there's nothing that was maybe newly revealed, but to listen to how this administration failed, the men and women of our military and also our allies was pretty stunning. Take a listen. This is video cut 6. This is a marine sniper sergeant Tyler Vargas Andrews who gave testimony yesterday. Take a listen. When he got to me, he dragged me to safety and immediately started triaging me tying tourniquets on my limbs and doing anything he could have stopped the bleeding and start plugging wounds with the help of the other marines. I was awake through most of it, screaming, moaning, and cursing. Please ask, I ask you to please ask me about getting shot at the tower in Abbey gate and how no one wanted my report post blast. Even NCIS and the FBI fell to interview me. Asked me to elaborate on my ordeal post blast and asked me about this one little girl and her family that I reunited. Our military members and veterans deserve our best because that is what we give to America. The withdrawal, the withdrawal was a catastrophe in my opinion. And there was an inexcusable lack of accountability and negligence. The 11 marines, one sailor, and one soldier that were murdered that day have not been answered for.

Nikki Haley Answers the "Roger Mudd" Question
"The first question is the roger roger muds famous question. Why do you want to be president? I don't want to wait on anyone else to say that. I look at where we are in the country and I see that we're $31 trillion in debt and we are spending like drunken sailors and we need to put Washington, D.C. on a diet. I see our kids have fallen so far back in education. We don't know how we're going to catch them back up and we've got to focus on that next generation. I see the fact that we've got crime in our streets. We've got open borders that our minds are being closed from woke ideology and I see a foreign policy that's in shambles. And, you know, I was a two term governor who took a failed double unemployment double digit unemployment state and I turned it into an economic powerhouse and I was an ambassador at the UN that didn't deal with one country. I dealt with a 192, and I took the kick me sign off of our backs. And I want to get America to a place where she's strong and proud again. And I want to do that for our kids.

Taiwan Needs More Fighter Pilots
"Taiwan needs more top guns. The chance of conflict with China grows. You see, he's got, they got a lot of F-16s in Taiwan, and they got a lot of great jet pilots. They're not as good as ours. But they need more, which means we have to train more. 'cause you just don't walk, right? Walk right in, sit right down in a cockpit of an F-16 or an F-18 or whatever they're flying, I don't know. I'm not a pilot. I'm not a soldier. I'm not a sailor. I'm not a marine. I'm not a coast guardman. I ain't nothing, but I listen. It takes a long time. I've seen top guns, so I guess that makes me an expert. I've seen them both. And I got a fighter pilot in the family, but if Taiwan needs more fighter palettes, we should train them. Another

US forces returning to Philippines to counter China threats
"The U.S. has been rebuilding its military might in the Philippines, more than 30 years after it closed its bases there. Washington's reinforcing an arc of military alliances in Asia in a starkly different post Cold War era, in which the perceived new regional threat is an increasingly belligerent China. Last week, the longtime allies announced that rotating batches of U.S. forces would be granted access to four more Philippine military camps, aside from the 5 other local bases under a 2014 defense pact, news of the decision to allow an expanded American military presence in the country is rekindling memories of thousands of U.S. sailors pumping money life and hope into the local economy, but there's also a backlash about the danger it could put the country in. "Great to have your company today, hope you're enjoying the chat about gaming is very interesting, isn't it learning about how games like the ones we've been talking about today? Triple-A games, the big games are all the kids are playing in some adults too. There are accessible. They are becoming more accessible. No, yes, like sightless said earlier. It's not perfect yet, but it is getting there and the fact is that the games companies are listening to disabled people that engaging with us and that can only be to the good, right? More of these console games are becoming more accessible. And that leads on to all kinds of interesting conversations about what the future will be in terms of virtual reality and how augmented reality games will work and what we were able to play them. Well, look, if the companies themselves have finally got it in their heads that accessibility matters, then you have to hope that that will feed into all that. So very interesting. But we are of course talking about the game conference awards and they were hosted by the man himself blind gamer from Canada, Steve sailor, and he joins me right now here on double tap. MicroStrategy's Big Bitcoin Bet
"I'm gonna get us started off. Did you think we'd be talking about Michael sailor in this last week of the year? I sure didn't. But micro strategy is still buying up Bitcoin. The company purchased $42.8 million worth of Bitcoin between November 1st and December 21st according to an SEC filing and on the 22nd the company sold 11.8 million worth of Bitcoin to offset previous capital gains, the sale marks the first time that micro strategy has sold its Bitcoin since they began buying it in 2020. Will I am going to pass this off to you. What do you make of this? Micro strategy is just still going strong with their Bitcoin thesis. Is headline is all wrong. We should have a completely different headline. That is that they sold Bitcoin, not bought it, just kidding, of course. This is big news that there's still buying Bitcoin. We'd love to see that. They did sell some Bitcoin, does seem to be for the tax harvesting aspect of that. And for those who are unfamiliar with it, in cryptocurrency and a few other assets, you do have the ability to sell your crypto and to sell into losses and then take a tax benefit for selling it. With securities and stocks and all that stuff, there is a 30 day wash rule, and there's some other components around it that you have to make sure that you follow. And so you don't really get the benefit that you do with crypto. So for a lot of people in November and December, you see a lot of cells. You see a lot of people unloading their digital assets at the end of the year in order to benefit from a loss on your digital assets and roll that into taxes for the next year, which is a great benefit of being in crypto. We'll see if that continues going to the future with IRS rules. But for right now, why not take advantage of it? Stellar buying Bitcoin though, I think that's important to note that Michael saylor, even though he stepped out of CEO, is now overseeing a micro strategy in different way, is still Bitcoin bull. They're still going to be purchasing Bitcoin. This is not a huge purchase compared to some of them in the past. And they're still actually pretty underwater on their overall purchases based on Bitcoin's price right now. But they still seem to have dry ammo and are willing to put more money into Bitcoin, even though we are in a down cycle right now.

No fuel, no mast, no water: Rescued sailors describe ordeal
"Two men in a pet dog were rescued from a sailboat without power or fuel more than 200 miles off the Delaware coast. Kevin Hyde was sailing from cape May, New Jersey to marathon, Florida, off the outer banks in North Carolina, bad weather moved in. The waves were bigger than my boat. So I was like, in the wind was severe. Friends hadn't heard from Hyde or Joe D Tommaso for ten days, a tanker ship spotted them. If you look at the size of his ship and the size of those and just compared to this toothpick that I'm floating around and just to be able to spot that because of the diligence of his crew, they have a protocol where they look out 360 search all day all day long. So it paid off. They're training paid off and they found us. It was a rough ride for de tomaso. I'm very tired, my legs are like rubber. Because this is the way you walked on the boat with 40 foot seas. The man and the dog were reunited with family. I'm Ed Donahue

Bill Federer Shares the Story of Squanto
"One of the stories that we have to include is squanto. And if I have a few minutes, I'd be happy to share that. Continue. So the pilgrims were religious, but there were other groups that weren't and they were pirates. So Spain had a monopoly on the new world for at least a century, and they had gold from Inca Peru and portobello Panama and they take it to Cuba and ship it and these Dutch and French and English pirates would raid the gold, but they would also sail up the coast of North America. Lure unsuspecting Indians on board, lock them below deck, take them over to malaga, Spain and sell them into slavery. So one of the Indians that was captured was squanto and the story is he was purchased by some monks in Spain who gave him his freedom. He hitchhikes his way across Europe, gets to England. He's there for a dozen years working, learning the language and the family finds some business that takes him to Newfoundland, right? A fishing type outfit. And then he gets the boat to drop him off at Plymouth, Massachusetts, only to find his whole tribe is dead. They were wiped out by a plague, William Bradford writes that three years earlier, a French ship was shipwrecked off the case, the coast of Cape Cod. Sailors got ashore, Indians never left watching them and bogging them, till they got the advantage killed them all, but three or four maybe sport with them worse than slaves. Anyway, one of those French men must have had an illness and the Indians didn't have immunity and it wipes out the tribe. So sort of in a reverse sense had squanto not been captured in kidnapped. He most certainly would have died. But squanto is living with the neighboring wampanoag tribe and then that fall is when the pilgrims show up. Half of the pilgrims die the first winner. They wouldn't have survived another year. Spring of 1621, walking into their camp is squanto. And you can just picture the conversation. I mean, he's in his loincloth and he goes up and he goes, oh yeah, you guys from London, I used to live there. You know, oh yeah, the pump down on war street or St. Paul's chapel. He goes, oh, yeah, yeah, I know that place. And then he says, oh, this place here, I grew up here. I know this place like the back of my hand over that hill is a spring. And William Bradford says he taught him how to catch fish. He said, you know, that they weren't successful, but he says, don't use salmon. They spawn this river. It's going to be packed. And then he taught him how to plant corn. They said, we tried it. He goes, no, you got to dig a hole, put some fish in, then put the kernel of corn and cover it up. The fish decompose fertilizes the soil. You have a nice harvest. Bottom how to take the corn and put it in a pot, shake it and make popcorn, right? And then he taught him how to go down to the riverbank squeegee in the mud and catch eels and clams and lobsters and then how to catch beaver skins. It took 40 years worth of beaver skins to pay off their debt for the boat ride,

And <Speech_Female> <Advertisement> I do think that getting <Speech_Female> back to basics and saying, <Speech_Female> if you can't codify <Speech_Female> something, there <Speech_Female> are feelings that can be <Speech_Female> codified, but the <Speech_Female> process of codifying <Speech_Female> those feelings is going to bring to <Speech_Female> light some of those feelings <Speech_Female> are pretty messed <Speech_Female> up and <Speech_Female> they're based on <Speech_Female> half <Speech_Female> truths untruths or <Speech_Female> utter nonsense <Speech_Female> that is just <Speech_Female> favoring <Speech_Female> certain people, certain parts <Speech_Female> of the world over other parts <Speech_Female> of the world and that's something that <Speech_Female> we've seen embedded into <Speech_Female> our system in part <Speech_Female> because it <Speech_Female> has been to some extent. <Speech_Female> I love this framing. <Speech_Female> Feelings based, <Speech_Female> you know, or <Speech_Female> gut based as opposed <Speech_Female> to really kind <Speech_Female> of hard nosed and <Speech_Female> fact based. <Speech_Female> So <Speech_Female> thank you, Greg <Speech_Female> so much for <Speech_Female> laying <SpeakerChange> this out for us. <Speech_Female> I'm just going to say <Speech_Male> that my takeaway <Speech_Male> here <Speech_Male> other than some wonderful <Speech_Male> insights from Greg <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> is the phrase <Speech_Male> on turds. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> That's

"Of that and spend it anywhere Mastercard and bees are accepted. That's the bridge between the old and the new. And that's the sweet spot that we play in. And that's what happens in crypto winter. People actually work on taking the new and grafting it to the old at scale. So can I have a go at visualizing it? Do you get a lot of people who just in the blockchain space? So we're just so dismissive. Okay, we're giving banks this power. They're the bad guys. The other guys who have been monitoring us in surveilling us all this time. And so what's so different about this, right? If I understand it, right? There's a KYC process that's happened at the bank. Basing it on credentials that are not necessarily something to do with your PII. That's the intent into this bundle. It's because of journalist proofs and various other cryptographic tools. This thing is now identifiable by others or recognizable I should use not to confuse these terms. By other entities, as being already a proven pre proven KYC thing based on that, I don't know who Greg kit is, but I do know that this token got was received from somebody or a node or an entity that has gone through this process and therefore is trusted. And so the system can keep to operate under that framework of an otherwise anonymous structure. Is that a reasonable way to talk about? The question is, can a bank or the brave browser or whoever is doing know enough about you that you are compliant without actually knowing what your name is, what your phone number is, what your email is, but they know that it's been confirmed by trusted sources so that they can do a transaction. If that transaction turns out to be involved with a bomb going off or fraud, then there's a process with a warrant with due process to find out those identifiers behind that identity. But unless something goes wrong, there's no right or ability to gain access to that information. And that's that uncomfortable space between the folks that are like total privacy freaks and don't want to be able to unpack anything. And sort of ignore the fact that we live in a world where one country invades another and they're sanctions. And the world of George Orwell either China or creepy Facebook or somebody is looking over your shoulder and knows everything. And the advantage of this for the types of players I am citing is if you know the credentials are good, you don't have to create a honey pot of private data, which we know is all going to get packed. Get activated. Nothing to hack. Nothing a hack if all you have is the credentials. You just get a bunch of check marks. There's no honey pot. So that's the attractive thing for not actually holding that PI. It's a very different world from GDPR, which is like trust the government or trust big companies to keep your data safe. We're in the enantio Reagan world, which is just say no. Don't give out the private data in the first place. Just give out proofs about the data. That's the edge we're on now of moving to that credential based world. Okay. And banks are buying into this. They're okay with this. They are supporting it. Well, not all banks. Not even 1% of banks, but banks I'm buying, you know, the management, we're going to put it in place. That's what they're thinking. They're like, they're in that new reality. So the tipping point. One of the questions before Sheila jump in, but just so, you know, the expression, right? Facebook knows that you're going to break up with your partner before you do. This idea that it's possible to plot a bunch of data points together and then arrive at conclusions about a person, whether it is their PII or other aspects that you would not actually want to them, right? How do we deal with that, right? Because we can all say, yes, I've hidden a bunch of data that I don't want out there. But my footprints through the net and all of the different ways in which I'm connected to my transactions eventually create a profile without me even realizing. I've actually had some people suggest that the only way is through some sort of homomorphic encryption solution that just really breaks up all the data itself into tiny little pieces and therefore there is no footprint, but it's still fulfills the need of a zero knowledge proof structure. That sounds probably more nerdy than we need to get into right now. Nonetheless, what do you say to those folks who say, look, AI is going to get this anyway. So how do we protect against that? There's no perfect protection. Patterns or patterns is the reason that the NSA goes after phone metadata. If you really want to catch bad guys, look at who's talking to who. You're eventually going to find out. Like, how did they catch the guy who ran Silk Road? They looked at it was talking to him, how they catch Osama bin Laden. They followed all the couriers. So you can see somebody's graph of who they interact with. You're going to be able to say, who are you talking to? But a defense against that, one of the things we say is you don't have to have just one identity. Your identity is not your physical live being, you can have personas. Just like you had multiple handles on Twitter or on Skype. But what you can have behind that is proof that that party is trusted enough to do what they're doing. So if you want to have more than one identity for some of these things that are kind of like very occasional and you want that to be much more private, by all means do so. But if a bomb goes off or there's been theft or kitty porn or whatnot, there is going to be guys influences. But for normal privacy, just like avoiding the creepy Facebook world, having multiple personas is a way of basically minimizing that exposure. Yeah, what does really well is down to is who needs to know what and when and why. And for how long, really, right? Because in some cases, you need to kind of know something to execute a transaction, for example, you have to have certain information. Once that's done, you have zero reason to have that information unless that occasion occurs again. And to your point about persona, we already operate in the world in this way. People have their professional identity, in some cases that's a different name, many women have a professional name, and they have a different name or whatever it is. A woman in particular, but other people as well. And you've got your parental family kind of relationships and how you're seen that way, which sometimes can also be a different moniker, you know, you might have a different grandparents in particular, right? Like there's all these different ways you're known in your community and in your world, and there's different aspects of your personality and particularly your information that are relevant to those different parts of how you walk through your day. And then the question for me is always, I think we've kind of tackled data hygiene practices that became very popular post GDPR, right?

How the Left Hurt Military Service
"The army's troubles are acute but not unique the air force barely hit its numbers for 2022, the navy met its targets for enlisted sailors, but came up short about 200 officers. Both the navy and air force had to dip into delayed entry. Pools of recruits usually kept in a holding pattern for later, which means the services will start a new recruiting year in an even tougher position. The numbers are worse in the reserves. Several factors are contributing to the shortfall. Fewer than one quarter of Americans ages 17 to 24 are eligible to serve and the reasons for disqualifications include obesity addiction and criminal history. Wow. I don't know if you got that. You probably didn't. Because you heard one quarter. But its fewer than one quarter are qualified. Fewer than one quarter of Americans 17 to 24 are eligible to serve. By the degree to which he is, you know, he's been through a long, tough period. He had a lot of concussions coming out of football. He suffered PTSD. He's given over 480 speeches on military bases around the world, teaching our young soldiers and sailors and airmen and marines that you can recover. You can have a better future. The Queering of Our Military With Kurt Schlicter
"Are joined now by my good friend and savage all around awesome American colonel kerch. How are you doing, my man? We're having fun, buddy. We are having fun. And we were talking last segment about the queering of America. Let's talk about the queering of our military. And apparently now, the admirals in some places have pronouns in their email signatures. Is this real? I think that's a little alarming to me. Is it an alarming to you? It is a 6 alarm fire like the one that burnt down the bond hom Richard because they're busy having pride marches instead of learning how to put out fires on ships. What is wrong with these people? Well, look, I'm not a sailor guy. I'm not real in tune with the whole ship thing, but I would think that learning to fight fires on a ship would be an important thing. And I think that offering your pronouns to people would be an unimportant thing. And I guess I'm just a little simplistic gym, I think you do important things and not unimportant things. Am I on the wrong track here? You're 100 percent on the wrong track as a matter of fact, we're going to have to have you sent to a re-education camp,

Jason Jones Discusses the Vulnerable People Project
"I'm talking to Jason Jones. Who is the head of the vulnerable people project? I want to hear more about that and how people can find that website. And I also want to let you finish. You were just going to say that there are a number of things that you all are doing. And we were referencing Trump just as we went to the break. I hope we didn't lose people. I was obviously being ironic. You know, under president Trump went on to Biden in the midst of the collapse of Afghanistan. The processing of SIVs collapsed to 10% of what they were in the previous year under Trump. Okay, say it again. Under under who under Biden, the processing of special immigration Visa people. And we're going to be collapsed. So who are those people? These are Afghans who fought and the war on terror side by side with American soldiers, marines and sailors. And so we know they were especially targeted. As we saw in the days after the United States left Afghanistan, our Friends were hanging from lampposts all over Kabul, they were beheaded. They were set on fire, their children were killed, and this happened, Eric. And so my organization began moving as many of them as we could to safe houses. And one other organizations were looking to use planes. We realized that was going to come to an end when the U.S. left. So we began doing overland routes to all of the neighboring countries. To get these folks out. But under Biden in the midst of the collapse of Afghanistan, these SIV visas were processed 10% of what was done the previous year under Trump. You know, you see this with Trump, the JV team of ISIS, which was the JV team, committed a brutal genocide that was quickly put to an end, Obama seemed utterly confused and helpless to put it into the genocides in Iraq and Syria. Trump shut that down.

Pelosi Trip to Taiwan Tests China’s Appetite for Confrontation
"By far the most powerful country in the world in military terms. Without any doubt. But with a home court advantage off China's coast, China has put massive resources into anti fit missiles interceptors and submarines precisely in order to be able to kill an American fleet in proximity to their coast. Their land army is terrible, peel of people's liberation armies, maybe the worst land army in the world. But their missile corps is excellent. And the studies from the air force and the Rand corporation and the office of net assessment, which I used to do some work for a Pentagon. Say that those missiles are extremely good. Now, you can argue about whether you contract moving the ship 800 miles off the coast if it's maneuvering. Can you really hit it well? The Ukrainians managed to sink the Russian flagship, the Moscow, hundred kilometers off their coast and at the Ukrainians can do it the Chinese who, after all, did put a space landing craft on The Dark Side of the Moon, probably could be able to do it. So the risk of a kinetic engagement against Chinese missiles and the possible loss of a carrier with 8000 American sailors and all of our prestige, as you say, is not a risk that we want to take. "Actually, I'm going to this is only pertinent because I'm reading it right now. That's okay. And see, this is the point of it. And I actually, I don't physically have a book with me, which means I'm not going to remember her name. I'd have to look it up when I get home. It starts with an M but she wrote the curve of time. Curvature. She was the mother of 5 children. Husband passed away, pretty shortly thereafter. And so she raised these kids on her own. She had a house on Vancouver Island. And every summer she would take her kids up the inside passage, which is something that I will do with my kids. And she was just like so Intrepid here. It was like a 20 foot boat. A little power sailor. And this was in the 1920s, right? So there was no infrastructure up there at all. All was like a bandit long houses, like old seater longhouses. And like a little bit from the lumber industry, they would have the old skid roads and stuff. Yeah, yeah, for when they were logging. So, I mean, just nothing. And they're like, she's sharing the space bears and, you know, just the way she describes to all these crazy Louisa inlet. These are like 5000 foot cliffs that go straight, they plunge straight into the water and go another 5000 feet down under there. That's insane. There's just all kinds of danger up there. With tides and how long does it take to do a trip like that? You could rip up the inside passage in a week if you were like going to the night. So in the 1920s, though, they have to, that has to take place three months. Three months. And she was just so willing to get out there and do it with those kids. And I think I've spent a lot more time thinking about it lately because as a parent I am struggling with the just go and do it because it's so much easier to not. Hack of all the bags and all the stuff. You throw it in the car, you do the drive, the kid throws up, you're like, why do we even try? And here she is 5 kids, and she's like, yeah, we're going to cruise up there. And then I can use this picture and be like, damn it, mom. Three months. I'm embarrassed I don't remember her name from. No, it's fine. But I think that's what makes it this kind of cool and kind of special though. That's it actually one of our most interesting answers. Because so it's something that you want to do with your children. It's something I want to do with my kids, but I also want to understand her state of mind. Like, why was she so willing to go out and do something so uncomfortable? Yeah. Was she did just not make her that uncomfortable? Like it was just tougher than I am or was it really difficult and she thought she saw value in it anyway. So I'm just going to chat with her about that experience and sort of why I think and I learned more from that than I would for a lot of textbooks. Oh yeah, no, I think people are the best textbooks, man. The stories that people have and the life experiences you can learn a lot. So you just curve a time. Curve a time for the author. I'll also put a link in the description below and I'll look up the author and make sure that I type the author's name in the description. But anyways guys, thanks so much for listening. Dude, thank you so much for your time. I really appreciate it, man. This has been awesome. It's good to meet you. Welcome back to another episode of coffee and van chats on the out of collective. I'm sitting here with kil Ryan and we were just joking about how he had a perfect. He had one opportunity to just retire, hang up his bike, be a normal dude, but instead he went the privateer out like every other cool dude does nowadays. So anyways. I'm just falling. Yeah, just follow the herd, babe. Well, hey, who knows? You're probably making more money doing privateering than you were in the world tour. I don't know. You know, it's pretty crazy world out there right now. The biggest expectation I had for this version was that I was going to be more relaxed and, oh man. It's not. It could not be any further from the truth. I feel like I'm getting pulled in 17 different directions at once. And I deserve it. Because I spent a decade and a half as a selfish professional athlete with the world revolving around me and said, this is payback, but I'm still figuring out how to juggle and do the balancing act. And I've got a lot more respect and also I can relate a lot more to all those ignited fibers and hardworking parents out there because now I just one of them. But I'm also really grateful for the opportunity to give this path a try and I'm looking forward to what it brings. No, it's a sick thing to do and I had this conversation with my wife the other day because actually if anybody from my team is listening. So I had to start at UCI trade team. And so I could go to world cups on the track and whatever else. And my wife looks at me and she's like, why didn't you just start it for yourself? Like you could easily just worried about yourself. Now you've got to worry about AI dudes. And I was just like, well, that's not how it works. You know, and it's kind of the same thing for you. It's like, it's like, well, now I got a book my own flights. Now I got a register myself. I got to pick up my numbers. I got to wash my bibs. I got to fill my bottles. And it's a weird life, man. And even Pete stetina, I think it's an outside looking in kind of thing. He's got big tall Wayne. But he does a lot of hustling. I connected those two for the record. Yeah. Well, there you go. Oh yeah, that's right. He actually told me that in the podcast that I did with him. So there you go. You lost your one only mechanic that you probably could have had. Yeah, so now I just have to rely on myself, which is a bummer ray because when things go wrong, you get nobody blamed. Yeah. Well, so I do have one beef to pick real quick here. There is neither a van nor coffee involved. Easy, easy. We got the cap and you picked up the coffee, as I said that. Absolutely, absolutely. Did that on purpose? That was fully perfectly timed. But yeah, so this whole podcast started in my van during COVID because I was gonna vlog to save my cycling career when I didn't make it to the Olympics. And yeah, then COVID hit and I was like, well, there goes my cycling career for sure. And then I started then I started this podcast and it's crazy. All you pro cyclists are don't even know who I am and you're willing to jump on the podcast. So it makes my life really easy. There's going to be a lot of honesty in this recording. Oh, absolutely. Dude, I don't lie. I don't bullshit. And so that's the way we work. But anyways, dude, tell me a little bit about you because I actually don't know too much about you, but I do know that you tried to come try out for the track. And I missed that camp. So I heard the stories, but I don't know much about you. I did do that. I think the reason that people pick up the phone and our game to come on here is because at the end of the day, this is community. And relied on the siphon community, tons throughout my career, and I've probably rely on it even more after it. And so I think if we're not here for each other, then what are we doing? For sure, man, no, that's super cool. Yeah, I think it's great that we all get to connect just because we ride bikes. And I saw that on the team too, right? Like even on a big world tour team, the mechanics, this one, the directors, everyone's there, because they love riding bikes. And how they got into it. So that shared. Love is what keeps us all together. So keep that moving, keep that going. I hope everybody gets to participate in it. And now that you've said that, now that you said that I have to bring this up. So I reached out to Andre Greipel. And his response to me was I'm not interested. You should probably lead with how big your podcast is. Andre Greipel. Okay, I still have the email. It's savage, because I thought I had an I kind of know Greg Henderson because he coached the men's track program for a little while. And he talked about how nice the guy was and I was like, oh, fuck yeah, like I'll just shoot him a message and see what he says. And that's the response I got. So that's me putting myself on blast on my own podcast. It's weird 'cause like on one hand, I want to say, good for him for not just like ghosting. And that's kind of what I thought. Yeah, like he took the time to say no. But on the other hand, get over yourself, man. Yeah. It was pretty, it was pretty savage. I was like, 'cause I was like, I didn't know I was embarrassed, because I was like, man, damn, that was a bit harsh. But then I was like, well, he did respond. So that means he opened my email. Hey, can just make it out of thin air. You can't make energy out of thin air. Energy exists. And it's conservation of energy is the first law of thermodynamics. And sailor says it because he's a rocket scientist and I appreciate it because I'm a mechanical engineer. And I know people that are as smart as sailor, the difference with sailor is, he's a walking mainframe who can actually communicate with the common man. Most rocket scientists are gibberish people. They speak in math and, you know, they make funny jokes that no one understands because it's like the square root of three. Like, get that kills me. Fuck off. I don't have no idea what you're talking about, right? But so sailor gets it, he's like he's a, yeah, he's a walking mainframe. Basically understands. Common men. Now that being said, you'll say, okay, I still don't quite get the conservation of energy. Hopefuly thinking about working 30 years in sweat, hot sun, you come to use that money 30 years later and it's worth nowhere near what you're purchasing what it would have been when it was worth 40 bucks. 35 years ago. So is gold metallic energy? Yes, sir? Absolutely. Okay. How is it formed? It's fun. No. How do you get formed in the universe? Supernova. There's lots of ways, but those things are high intensity energy things. Okay. Okay. There's scarcity value to gold. I mean, the beautiful thing about gold is you don't produce it. You don't put, you know, it's not like producing concrete. You know what I mean? Like you don't put some you don't put half a mixture of stones and concrete and sand and water to produce concrete or cement rather. Your cement sand, stones and water equal concrete, you can't produce gold that way. You can get gold out of seawater. You know that there's more gold in sea water than is on land. The problem is getting it out of seawater is a very polluting arsenic and all those things. But yeah, that energy could get gold.

"What michael sailor said was his prediction. Is that gold is going to zero. And he said that anybody who is buying. Bitcoin and gold is a fool because they shouldn't be buying any goal that all that there's no point in even having a small allocation a gold that gold is totally worthless and bitcoin is made it obsolete and that gold is going to zero. It seems that. Michael sailor is confusing goal for bitcoin. It's bitcoin that's going to go to zero not gold. I mean why would go to zero. Even if bitcoin succeeds wide is gold half to fail. I mean certainly. Gold has been a valuable precious metal for thousands of years. Goal was very valuable before it became money even if it was demonetized by bitcoin. Why should it be worthless like people are going to walk around and that they look down and there's a bar gold on the street they're just gonna keep on walking and not even bother to pick it up because it doesn't even have value as a paperweight is completely worthless. Gold is the most useful metal on the periodic table. it will always have value. it will never be worthless. even if bitcoin succeeds. Gold does not fail. But you know this just shows you. How irrational these bitcoin. Proponents are to the extent that they think gold is going to zero. And one of the things that michael sailor said to convince the people listening on twitter and there were thousands and thousands of people that were listening. I forget how many but he said that goal is down over the last year the goal is down over the last ten years and that therefore it is not an inflation hedge. It has proven that it's not an inflation hedge because it is down over the last ten years or the last year. That is a very subjective timeframe to pick because if you go over the last twenty years gold went from under three hundred to eighteen hundred where it is now. that's a sixfold increase. Sounds like a inflation hedge to me in fact if you go back a few years ago. Gold was at one thousand fifty in two thousand fifteen. So it's up. Eighty percent almost in the last five years. Sounds like a pretty good inflation hedge over that timeframe. What michael sailor likes to do is cherry pick the timeframe during which gold went down and contrast that to bitcoin to prove that bitcoin is the real safe haven inflation hedge and gold is now obsolete the reality is. Bitcoin is not going up because it's an inflation hedge. Bitcoin is going up for the same reason. That peleton went up. It went up..

"I had you off but like really quickly. I think in her introductory his introductory episode one thing that i noticed it was really interesting is that i think she caught on that. Everybody thought that she was a boy pretty early on and she just kind of kept it going anyway and i like that because it kind of subtly. Has this weird lake it. Has this kind of portrayal of like you know. Gender to this person seems to be more performative than like you know are like a playfulness of sure. I can play with this. Like yeah. there's even with crystal. They definitely play that up a lot to the i. I believe it's criteria. Sailor moon crystal the the remake that they started doing and they really once they introduced sailor uranus they really play that up. They play up the whole like. Yeah all right well. I'm hot doesn't matter. How i'm dressed doesn't matter look i'm hot. And then when she does turn into a sailor scout when she transforms like she's still in the high fem sailor scout outfit. I like that. It doesn't necessarily bother her that much. Like there's there's something really cool about that that she's able to sort of play with it. This this character has power all right. I'm in life like outside of the sailor scouts. I'm not necessarily going to dress this way. It's like yeah all right. I got power this way. This is cool. Like i don't know. I just i dig your vibe so i mean fundamentally one of the appeals and draws of sailor moon is like when my brother and i were watching it as kids like we were watching it like side by side with dragon policy. Which like you know is maybe some hearing heavily masculine coated like show because it's just a bunch of men with big muscles and big energy blasts in our and i really liked the when when i was kid silman was like to me read as a reductive bullshit or whatever but like as a kid writes me. As like for girls wear like feminine and feminine coded appeals in aesthetics and visuals cetera et cetera. Was what was powerful in this world. You know she all of the characters. All of all the characters grew stronger. The more they shed themselves from lake. You know of course like normal mundane features but also by sinking into the feminine coated beauty. They gained strength. And i don't know. I like that you know. That's basically what being that is like. I'm into that. Yeah say the same thing. Okay.

"Of course so that was a whole thing. It also led meets discovery fan fiction. And when i say discovering pantic shin was in the days before eo three days before live journal this was on bulletin board systems and a whole mess there but i loved every second of it i was gonna say i think i i was introduced. Fan fiction from fan fiction dot net. I think it was like so. We're talking like even before. Fan fiction dot net. Or we're talking like. Oh yeah yeah this days of using a dial up modem to connect directly to be s Nice for younger. The all is a bulletin board system. It's like the proto internet. It's a message board but you had to connect rear phone directly to system Have like graphic or anything in the thing so one of the reasons that we've been kind of because sailor moon has been on my mind a lot for a while doing this podcast as have a lot of anime but we don't tend to cover a lot of animate because especially with more classic anime. It's not intended for our audience specifically in america and so there's a lot that can get lost in both the literal translation but also the translation of culture. And so we just kind of. I want to make sure that. I'm going in and saying like hey we're gonna be talking about but there's also a whole world that like there's a whole part of criticism that we are missing out because we are coming at it from a literally translations so for me. It's like we're going to be able to discuss it. We're gonna be able to talk about a lot of the broader things but there are some things that we might miss. And i just wanna to say that's okay and i'm totally here for and want people to contact is a transphobic and let us know. Hey these are some things. He missed out on. Diesel provide a little bit more context. So yeah so. Let's jump in if we can get filtered franco about this. I guess. Let's jump into this Sailor moon and trans issues There's a lot of intriguing gender stuff within the salem universe immediately. A lot of people look at sailor. Uranus and failure androgen What yeah what are what are some things that immediately. Stand out to you as far as sailor moon and gender and trans issues. I mean honestly what excited me about. Like chunk up this past specifically was Like this episode specifically was that. Like i have such strong opinions about like what does with like us orientation Because i feel like that's more in the forefront of this conversation l. Considering that like in so many seasons or moon they try to like perpetuate sort of love triangle. Between soggy end. Mario and somebody else happens. I think three times in the entirety of the show and The first time. I think was with In season to the the evil came guy who was total sees it a very hot but also of terrible and then in season. It was a between her amado and And then in seasons five it was hurting auto and say i believe it was like a like de facto leader star lights. And it's what's really interesting. Is that in the original manga. I know that like. I mean we'll get to that one later. We'll get five notice as always is a woman but like she expresses herself in a lot of like masculine coded signifies on and it's really interesting thing to like. I think about in conversation with gender mostly because like the night before protests happened. I was staying up all night trying to think of what. What is the most masculine characters in ayler million like because even the guys say it would remove are all have a lot of feminine coded signal fires a lot of them. Are you know very delicate. They have very slender frames. They have you know. It only have like particularly masculine coded hobbies for the nineties. Like you know The most prominent male character on the show tuxedo mask. He fights with roses and he's dressed in a suit he's going ballroom dancing like it's just very very pencil as very like i don't know i love it. Don't get door it but it's it's interesting that you're in. This is such an open in earnest playing with gender roles gender expression you're in this Urine is's characters so much. Because i mean at first aid mistaker for a boy and even once. They know she's a girl. There's still a lot of that crush.

Rachel weekly for giving this episode of once over and I it and editing it for me Honestly we put out a call to try and raise our patriotic earnings Monthly and we did And people did show up and people are amazing. And i love you especially anyone who was able to jump in and help out for that month but it's just not sustainable That said what i'm going to do instead. Of cancelling the podcast. And i know that that was on the table and it really was. I had to think about that. That is a consideration. I had to have. This has been going for five years. And i love it. And it's been a passion project but when episodes dip it weighs on me like when i can't produce episode or when an episode that i release is not to the standards that i would like it. I don't feel good and part of that is because i've been doing this all myself. Part of that is. Because i've been doing this on my own. It's tough to ask for help. And it's tough to accept help but one of the ways that i'm going to try and find that help is. I'm going to shut off monetization for the patriotic for the months of july august. We've we've gotten the payment for june. So if you've been a patron for june that's gonna carry on through the summer. Don't worry you're not going to get charged. Regardless of how many episodes i put out. We have been recording episodes. We are going to continue recording episodes. We're going to continue releasing episodes. I just kind of need the summer restructure the business strategy of this podcast which is just if you know me. That is so hard to say. what we're going to restructure the business strategy of this podcast and i'm hoping to bring on co producer. It just needs to get done I need someone to help me at. Its need someone to help me. Organiz need someone to help me with promotion. It just that's just how it is And that's cool and it means that we're wanting to grow. But i'm getting burned out and that's okay now four an intro to the actual episode itself Thank you for sticking with me. Read that but for the the episodes we're gonna be talking about sailor moon we're specifically focusing mostly on the original series Bless about the manga. More about the original series as aired both in the original japanese and in english Basically whatever we had access to both growing up and within the timespan of recording the episode and recently netflix's put out a series of sailor moon movies which i saw the first one so far and i really love it. And it's based around a huge portion of this This arc that we talk about the one with fish hawks i and lion. I are tigers. I and it's fascinating to watch what they do with fish. I because i thought that they were robbing fish. I of fish is kind of gender fluidity and the this this idea that they gave fish. I in the movie but then they kind of transfer it to hawks high and that's fascinating on so many levels so many levels check out the movie you might love it. You might hate it. I don't know but we don't talk about it because we recorded this almost a year ago. This is the last episode in the arc of episodes that we prerecorded when the pandemic had started now we are recording episodes in the period where the pandemic in america is becoming more manageable. But not over. Thank you to mary. Closer for proposing this episode is it transphobic will be addressing issues of transphobia and trans massage. Any we may also address issues of racism. Classism able ism and various other intersectional issues in this podcast so this is a trigger warning. The panelists on is it. I'm really excited. This is like growing up. I loved sailor moon. I only ever caught random episodes. And i didn't understand like i couldn't put together the coherent story but the bits and pieces that i saw i really loved so for me i just i love it. I'd love to hear from both of you. About what sailor moon kind of means to you and how you were introduced to it okay. So i was watching all the way back when i was a little kid. It one of the things that like my brother. And i are like we watched like we continue to have this kind of joking conversation about like. Another deep dive into this weird world from sunny san diego. I'm greg carl would and as much buzz as there is about. The ufo mystery lately. The reality is that some of our oldest written material from our deepest history about chariots of fire flying machines messenger from another realm and all the sorts of things. People are patiently waiting to have confirmed by the pentagon thousands of years later but it seems that at every turn some sort of academic royal or religious authority has been there to tell us that these stories and depictions are not what we think they are. And that's funny because so many positions of power have historically been framed as intermediaries between men in the heaven's kings pharaohs pope's it's easy to forget that context when you think about it. Can we really have it both ways. Maybe the people who occupy the seats of power throughout time quite literally are the agents of unseen forces ruling over humanity forces that realize the greatest power is to not be seen. And can we really expect royal families living lavish lifestyles of laziness and produce slippered popes. To rat out there multidimensional bosses. Well this is where my head's at. After reading holographic culture the five hundred plus page eight years in the making masterwork of today's guest pierce back. He's a guy. It's great to be on your show us so thank you very much for inviting. Thanks for being here. Yeah it's great to be on. That was a fantastic introduction. So thank you for really setting me up that that was introduction. Of course man. It's all in a day's work and i'm in a really good mood today. I really enjoyed your book. Thanks for sending it out to me. Of course it was a colleague of yours john. Peters who set this up for us. And i'm very thankful that he did. It's hard to really find the best entry point here but let me bring the audience up to speed with what john wrote to me. He said pierre's work show. Is that what we now call. Ufo's are real physical ships that can drop in and out of this frequency range. He shows that the occupants of overcome wave particle duality. They can exist as wave form and are called high spirits or take a solid particle form and are called high creatures. They may appear to be magical but it seems to all be done with advanced technology. Well i definitely came away feeling like you made a really excellent case for that and these would have been here since the beginning of the human story and still control the culture through the political and religious authorities that are the hybrids of the grafted. Bloodline is that right is that the thesis were working from today. Yes there's lots of different elements which you've just spoken them which we really need to unpack breath. Basically the book is called holographic coach. Were dealing here with a race of beings are deconstructed the mechanics of white foam reality so this basically means that they exist both within the spiritual range. This is why they're referred to as the ruak halloween. The high spirits. This is another term for the jin genesis or worm. Now the wormald sirkin is another word. Father seraphim which Angels essentially they can dematerialize. Then they can physically repair within this reality deaf. Aw referred to in. Shall we say duplicitous language on paradox colon. Which so the ruak. Hello in the high. Spirits can appear materialize as the allocate. Which is a high creature a living god again. This is polymorphic language and really we're dealing with polymorphic symbolism and this is really important when we're looking at the elo in which the high wounds the high winds these debts which originate from heaven so the fall when we're dealing with angels which is scatalogical tradition the study of jelly boats or ships within the classical religious tradition. When really dealing with the angelic tradition. This is the classical. Tradition classes to naval flakes this relates to that which is classified because this is a hidden tradition on this opportunity to the naval tradition. All the angelic tradition. So for example when we look up polymorphic symbolism we can see that the technology of malakand angel is a polymorphic word of malak which is a sailor. So we're dealing here with angelic sailors and this is why in the biblical traditions for example. Your waist both is described as law of the host now the woods saga which is an economic where we get the woods above from is related. That's melodic late saturday. Which is the military. So yeah wasabi. Is this military house but in particular. Ya savell specifies. A naval itinerants a naval house. And so we see that. There's a correspondence between samoa Above lot of the host sabah seven crew of a vessel tavora which is an arc. And this is really important. When we're describing the angels because the angels are seeing to be crew members of naval vessels and described as residing on these on jelly vessels which are known as the often wales. I i want to really make a point. Also about the angels in terms of that demarcation within their coat tradition because within their coach tradition you have to demarcations within the coal tradition. So you have knowledge which is given to mankind from non human.

"Used by sailors. They have to do it on foot. And that's where the idea of the Navy C leg challenge was born. Hello, everybody can't read Goldhammer, commanding officer of the USS Ronald Reagan, the only four deployed aircraft carrier in the U. S Navy out here in Yokosuka, Japan. Like TOC, if you guys would be willing to join us for the Navy Sea legs challenge as part of virtual Fleet Week, Japan and New York until the challenges on to give the public in the U. S and Japan to climb stairs and not just a few stairs, But to find whatever stairs they can to climb the number equal to climbing landmarks in Japan and the US like the Statue of Liberty or Mount Fuji. It was an idea dreamed up by Commander Katie Sory zone. Get around everyone from the most junior sailor to the captain. They're going about doing their business. I mean some serious letters. He'd stay. If I wanted to bring someone on board and showcase the physicality of what it's like to be at sea. I would have them take them on the most inefficient tour out ever up and down. I have learned just like Katie, come up with great ideas. Give her all the room in the world to operate. And this fleet week Japan was really her initiative. She got my counterparts in the cage. O J tied the J. MSDF. She got our counterparts in New York excited about it. I have never seen such this groundswell of excitement for something that is completely virtual. She's amazing what it means is the Navy is daring you to go out and climb 354 steps. It could be the steps in your home or somewhere around town and posted to social media. That's the height of the statue of Liberty and solidarity with those in the Navy. Or you could do Mount Fuji. If you dare climb Mount Fuji back in 2000 and three In July. And I know they say climate once you're Wiseman climate twice. Your full but climbing Mount Fuji really shaped me it give me a real sense of confidence. And so I hope that anyone who tries Fuji even though it's the most strenuous. It's meant to give you a sense of euphoria. Sense of satisfaction. Maybe you could do it that Mount Fuji climb is 19,600 steps. As for the admiral others to challenges that I'm gonna do. I'm gonna do the Statue of Liberty and because we live in Japan, I'm also going to do the Tokyo Hour or so. I think I can easily get Tokyo Tower and the Statue of Liberty, which I've been in both before. And so if you're sore.
