SAG Awards and Grammys conflict after date change: 'Extremely disappointed'
"Yeah, I don't know. The Grammys. We know that they're going to move the Grammys to Jane from generate 31st of March 14th you to Corona virus, which again is rampant out in California. There is another problem. Now there is already an award show scheduled that night. The SAG awards the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Looks that date back in July. So the SAG committee made a statement that said, We are extremely disappointed dear of the conflicting date. We announced the same date last July. We expect that the decade consideration from sister organizations throughout the industry will comply with us. Meaning they want the Grammys to move. So the Grammys way got East Coast versus West Coast. You know what the weird thing is? Never speak of such a big deal. It's just nobody watches the show. I don't even know well, first off, I don't even know what sag mean other than like, sag like, so I just don't know why they think these award shows are so critical to humanity. When we look, we see the numbers. The ratings for these award shows the next morning and the news stories always lowest ratings and 12 years, lowest ratings and 13 years. That's like What are you doing these award shows for and what we need. If you want anyone to watch, either one of these shows battle each other to death.

"WBZ's Ben Parker spoke with ABC entertainment correspondent Jason Nathanson about what maybe we can expect in the upcoming Academy Awards so we have the SAG awards show over the weekend we've course already had the golden globes are starting to get a clearer picture of the Oscar race or are we what we are and we aren't in some of the categories for sure as we saw last night when it comes to the best actor actress Supporting Actor actors those are pretty much locked at this point because at the SAG awards last night and at the golden globes and the critics choice awards the same for actors of won all those awards Joaquin Phoenix for joker Best Actor Renee Zellweger for Best Actress for Judy Laura Dern marriage story best supporting actress and Brad Pitt for best Supporting Actor for once upon a time in Hollywood so when it comes to the Oscars in a couple weeks those are I would say locks almost a hundred percent marks a plane I can see a lot of surprises there but when it comes to Best Picture which is the one most people care about that that the world where things are a little more up in the air last night we solved for outstanding cast parasite one which made history before language film is never won that award before only to be nominated in the history of the SAG awards when it comes to Oscar predicting besides old only lined up over the past ten years only four times for Best Picture when it comes to Oscars we had different winners in the golden globes and in the SAG awards would it be on common to have a third different winners with once upon a time in Hollywood that won the Best Picture for the golden globe does that automatically make it up the front runner or no good good joke around eight movies yeah I mean they're they're all different in it when it comes to protecting one might predict the other whatever they're all different so let us at the SAG awards only for the last ten years have they ever lined up when it came to the best castor Best Picture category but what a lot of these wins do is they build momentum as we go towards Oscar night and like I said the producers guild award eight of the last ten years they've agreed so that's pretty big so I yeah I think that that's the best predictor and so since nineteen seventeen one that over the weekend that's got to be the front runner but palisades winning a lot of things right now I think the two of those probably does your best bet if you're so you're going to Vegas you can put money on it it's one of those two probably with once upon a time in Hollywood probably that has an outside chance but about a little bit of a chance then if you look at the rest of the winds and who's one what so far what's really been hurt is the Irishman which is getting no love but a lot of nominations but really no love jokers not getting a whole lot of love outside walking Phoenix's performance marriage story also not getting a whole lot of love outside Laura Dern's performance and then you have some of the others which I I think are great like Joe Joe rabbit is fantastic I think little women is very good but likely not much of a chance for those to win Best Picture at the Oscars A. Spike Lee is first black person to lead Cannes Film Festival jury
"So just a little recap the SAG awards were handed out last night in LA so the south Korean film parasite made history for its win for best ensemble the film while winning this still the awards were still criticized for its lack of diversity which is a big conversation that's happening you might have heard of the Oscar so white hashtags back in the headlines again the entire Best Director category this year is made primarily up of white guys the acting categories a pretty way to know Jennifer Lopez for hustler is no Lupita nyong'o who's hurting us no one from dolomite is my name this left a lot of critics prize discouraged at the lack of representation then at the Cannes Film Festival they threw a curve ball the announce the Spike Lee is the new president of the Cannes jury he's that legendary filmmaker behind films like do the right thing and jungle fever black Klansmen now Spike Lee is the first black person to ever lead the Cannes jury and seventy three year history come back all this it's our Q. screen panel here in the studio John Semele Antena sending it right about TV movie arts and culture hi guys hello hi so this is so much going on there's so much to talk about him to start with you can give us a quick like history especially in cans okay so back in the eighties when spike was young and you know excited to show his movies to the world he won a youth prize with she's gotta have it and then he came back in nineteen eighty nine with do the right thing and it was like the front runner to win some big award but it didn't it ended up not winning not even a single prize and Spike Lee you is not so happy about that and he ended up blaming the jury presidents filmmaker them vendors and he had some price words for him it he said I have the quote right here vin had better watch out because I'm waiting for his **** somewhere deep in my closet I have a Louisville slugger bats with vendors and name on it okay so so so small and most likely was back at camp twenty eighteen with a black Klansmen here is at the press conference United States America was built upon the genocide of native people and slavery that is the fabric of the United States America as my book on brother JZ was say fax we on the right side of history with this film so I want to point out that the reason we're broke rehashing all this is because basically is as a big job can right now so John is this going to be the fact that he's leaving the jury a bit of a wake up call well as ever I'm of two minds about it I mean I would be hesitant to use being jury president of a prestigious Film Festival where everyone wears tuxedos in the south of France and some sort of bell weather for representation and diversity in Hollywood that's it it is something I mean as you said there has never been a black jury had in the history of the festival and I think that the palm d'or which this jury awards that's the price of the award it's still I would say the most prestigious award in cinema it is a way of sort of drumming up interest in a film I mean parasite which you just won't stop gushing about overflowing toilets in Paris but for you should go watch it again for the third time I think so you will I want to point out I would believe that John was the first one to like say me a Twitter DM being like Hey man you could check up and all of a sudden they do it on the for the heck say when the palm d'or which sort of started this journey that it's on now so it is certainly a way that you can generate interest in a film and I think it speaks often to a filmmaker status I think people will be watching to see what films Spike Lee finds interesting and I don't know I think he's made a lot of good films and he's made a lot of social films but I love the guy and I'm happy form I think it's like just an interesting like historically if you if you look at it historically the beef that's been going on between spike and and can you know like back in the eighties like back to do the right thing I I don't know he he had some choice words and and I don't know like it was Sally fields apparently who is like feeding him all this information about how long his victim yeah who didn't like do the right thing didn't think that like the ending was really worth it all this stuff and I guess he just didn't get the movie you know so yeah and apparently spike came out after that saying that what he said was stupid and immature and you know I guess in twenty eighteen he did when the ground pre awards black Klansman so he's I don't know ease down to three as we do the right thing I mean it's not one of the major American films ever made teen I we just talked with the spikes two thousand movie bamboozled is coming out from the criterion collection on home video I think next month a film that I think was widely misunderstood at the time I got reimagining of a minstrel show exactly it's about a sort of a TV minstrel show that someone creates a try to bomb their own career sort of a producer's plot line but it ends up becoming immensely popular film it was widely misunderstood at the time that I think is right for a re appraisal is going to get it when it comes out so I think people you know they always talk about spike Lee's films and he deserves a five but if you can imagine what can is trying to get out of putting Spike Lee as head of the jury and what's likely might be trying to get out of it are these two paths of origin what makes my cynical answer would be that they know I mean he was a kid in nineteen ninety nine he made a in quotes joke that someone should shoot Charlton Heston because he was responsible for gun violence in America you know he's called compared Clint Eastwood to a plantation owner I mean they're certainly like a level of let's say energy that spike brings that sort of my grab attention and headlines but also can would like that yes the thing can can benefit from that I mean do they do what like TMZ headlines about it's good ratings like any other organization he's a major filmmaker he's a major filmmaker major filmmakers and people at this level are who had the service but I just I just I I love what Kim had to say when they talked about you know including him as the jury had they said lease flamboyant personality is sure to shake things up like I just find the use of the word flamboyant they're kind of condescending we have yeah it applies to maybe to some of his sartorial tendencies and that's about it right if you just turning and I'm Tom how are you listening to Q. screen panel with John family and

"Hello and welcome back to GSM see entertainment plots hat and moving moving on. We're still going through some of the recipients of some of the wards at the SAG awards and the next one I'll be listing here is for for outstanding performance by female actor in a drama series. And this was awarded to General Please Jennifer Aniston Anniston for her performance her role in the morning show and I need to pause here and show with the guys another memorable moment a topic. That was being It was trending on twitter. It was training on Yahoo and everybody was talking about this. Specific moment was when Jennifer Aniston was accepting her award and was up on the podium giving her speech during her speech. Brad Pitt had he had just us he was right before her At the podium. Right so right after you give your acceptance speech at the podium. You know they walk. You take you through the back in your backstage. So Oh Jennifer Aniston won this award right after Brad Pitt accepted his and while she was giving her acceptance speech. Brad Pitt stopped everything everything he was doing backstage was looking at the teleprompter looking at the TV and he was just gazing at Jennifer Aniston and like admiring her while she was giving her acceptance speech through the screen and vice versa. When Brad Pitt was up at the podium giving his acceptance speech the camera camera pans to Jennifer Aniston she was at the time sitting where all the audience members were at the tables down below and she was like also like her hand was is placed under her chin and like she was smiling and clapping from engaging in like it's so nice to see XS who still get along in that way okay and are still supportive of each other but a lot of people on social media were going raving going crazy over this moment because the the famous XS were photographed sharing a moment backstage after their respective wins in which Jennifer Aniston. She like turns away but her hand and is placed on Brad Pitt's chest and he's like grabbing her hand you know and like you can definitely tell like he still has like some type the feelings towards her. I don't know they seem like awfully friendly. And especially if you're a millennial like me I mean this just brought back back memories of the early two thousand when it was Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston and they were like that it cup when everybody admired them because they were amazingly good looking looking together. A good-looking pair and I we haven't seen and photographed like that in that win. That friendly Loving way in such many many years. There's and many fans were you know all these memes were circling around twitter and people are like. Oh my God you guys tapping. It's happening like they're gonNA get back together other and like but also the other half were like you guys like she will. She's not GonNa Forget. How Brad Pitt dirty? How he cheated on Jennifer Aniston and what Angelina Jolie? So a lot of people are also saying like don't take back your cheating ex But it was a debate. You know going back and forth but this this was definitely a trending topic everybody was raving about it. especially if you grew up like watching them in the early two thousands you probably admired their relationship but but it is. It was really nice to see them showing their admiration and respect for one another and you know over the years they have still remained very friendly with one. Another Brad Pitt has attended a Jennifer Aniston Annual Holiday Party as was her fiftieth. Birthday Bash Last year in February which. I'm pretty sure he started. They started getting friendly again. Wants him and Angelina. Jolie have split they. They filed for divorce in twenty sixteen or they split in two thousand sixteen but the divorce has been finalized into nineteen. So I'm assuming all of these rumors I have been kicking up sense Brad. Jelena's have split and their bolt single. They're both in their fifties talking about Jennifer Aniston and Brad. Pitt's you don't get confused but yeah I mean I'm not too sure how would feel about that like it was nice to see them together. You know they were like laughing and like showing thing and my admiration for one another. Why did have such trouble saying they're in our admiration for one another which is nice to see friendly exit? You know still will having that respect for one another but yeah. I'm kind of on the fence to because yeah they look good and they brought back that early two thousand five but but he did do my girl Jennifer Aniston dirty. So it's like I'm conflicted like I can't really like vouch or ship for that relationship. Because because he did to my girl Jennifer innocent dirty. But I mean we'll see we never know what the future may hold but I was definitely one of the most Pivotal Don moments of the CY young awards and moving on from that going back to our regular course of work here. I'm now moving onto into who won for outstanding performance by female actor in a drama series. And this was or sorry totally wrong. This was given to Male actor in a drama series and this was awarded to Peter Dink Lidge for for his performance. In game of thrones overthrowing get there my punt. Overthrowing Steve Carell David David Harbour Billy Krupp and Sterling K.. Brown pretty tough competition. I'm a fan of Steve Corral. Whenever he gets mentioned? I'm like I want him to win because I just absolutely love him in the office David Harbour he was He was a police the he played a police. His role was a policeman in stranger things again. All of these guys are pretty tough competition. Like I'm a fan of the saga wars right now. Because I like how. It's diverse verse The nominees are lot different. Different Pool of Pe- bolden the Oscars and the Golden Globe like the Oscars and the Golden Globes. It's pretty much the same people people being nominated for both award shows and I like how the SAG awards is a little more diverse. And I'm a fan so fly so far saga ward. Do you like my top movie. Awards show to keep up with and moving. On a outstanding performance by a male actor in a television movie or limited mitts series was awarded to Sam Rockwell for his performance and fuss over dine and he was up against giral old jerome so for those who drilled aromas which you should know by the way he had the absolute best performance in the net flex a Short like Docu series when they see us and again. If you haven't seen this film I highly suggest like it is by far one of the top-rated net flicks films. My favorite Netflix film. I think giral Jerome Jaryl. Jerome should have one. Invest Specific category for best actor actor in a television movie are limited series. I think he was robbed in this category. I know and I even saw this in the last In the last episode how like I Every award show. No one's going to be happy or not. Everyone's going to be happy. Someone's GonNa be upset and I'm that person today. I'm that upset person because I think Gerald Jerome should have one in specific category because his performance and when they see us was so moving and uncomfortable and when I mean uncomfortable I mean like he rarely made us viewers fuel a type of way. Feel something uncomfortable in our social the justice system. I mean if you haven't watched when they see us it's pretty much it's based on a real life story about These men in New York and how they they were wrongly convicted of a rape and murder of this White woman who was a runner in New York City Central Park and they were convicted for lifelong senses. They were in jail. And it's pretty much based around that whole journey of these men and Durrell Joe Rome in that Netflix documentary series film. He played two characters. A key played like a child like a sixteen year old younger durell Jerome in that foam home and then he played a secondary role in that foam as him as an adult and like. Oh my God literally got tears seeing him like that. I feel that's like what film was about like actors. Their role is like to make audience members and viewers feel something and feel moved and and he definitely did that to not just me. But many people especially The African American community people Minority groups people of Color so I'm I'm on a color back and definitely identify with the issue. And how heartbreaking it is and I feel feel for those people and like ONA do everything in my can too. You know like just raise awareness really and You guys continental breath because I'm getting really deep into this and when we come back. I'm going to continue sharing a little bit more about the saga boards and then moving onto Kim Kardashian's documentary documentary tired of searching the vast jungle of podcasts. All done outstanding work have all have memorable roles in movies and films so that's a pretty tough caller say. Hey but congrats to Laura dern for achieving this award for best female actor in a supporting role now for the male actor in a supporting role for best actress supporting role was given to. I don't WanNa say given let me correct myself not given but was rewarded. Did to Brad Pitt for his performance. In once upon a time in Hollywood and this category he was going up against Jamie the Fox. Tom Hangs up Achino. And Joe Pesky again very tough group of men to be again all quite amazing so this it was definitely like way harder categories I think way tougher competition Then like the Golden Globes if you like the Golden Globes as a little bit like you can kind of guess gas who was GonNa win. That's just me. And just like the Golden Globes Brad Pitt. One in his exact same category for best male actor in a supporting role for his role in once upon a time in Hollywood. "Cynthia and I'm back again with another episode for you guys happy Monday. A hope. Hope you guys are starting off to a very strong start to your week I will. Today is what Martin Luther King Holiday and and I took the day off to go watch bad boys for life which stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence and highly highly recommend. I absolutely loved it It's not so much funny but I think it's just a dynamic duos back it's labeled as an an action adventure comedy film Death Law of Action so I liked. I Love Action Movies Because I tend to fall asleep during movies and the two hour long film and I was able to stay up from start to finish because it's a lot of like action packed scenes which which I like it helps me stay up By highly recommend I love will Smith's on like I have to go see it if you haven't watched the previous bad boys is is a third there's a sequel to the previous two films and I think they're coming out with the fourth one but that's what I did on my day off today and besides that a pretty chill weekend nothing too crazy going on but as always a lot of stuff going on in the entertainment world and entertainment media the Industry I'm here to share with you guys. First Order of business this SAG awards and this year's twenty sixth annual screen actors Guild Awards which is abbreviated as Sag awards took place last night January nineteenth at the shrine auditorium at an Expo Hall and Los Angeles of course after all the awards shows are what other more suitable place than the city. The angels right and this is a movie screenwriter award film our award ceremony out on what it is is like January February the time of the year Like all these award shows are coming out Towards the end of nineteen from September through early December it was all D- like music awards that were being handed out and now the beginning of twenty twenty. I started off with the Golden Globes and The now we're in next month is going to be the Oscars and so all of these movies shows are movie awards coming out now so I don't know why it's like in the beginning of the year which I thought was kind of little interesting but I don't know who knows and during the saga award so every a year at the saga award since it started in nineteen ninety five they hand out thirteen awards and those thirteen awards focus on both individual vigil performances as well as the work of the entire assemble of a drama series and comedy series and the cast of a motion picture so so it really takes into account everybody a collaborative project which I like and these honors our fundamental to the spirit of of the screen actors Guild Awards Sag Awards because they recognize what all actors know that a motion picture. A comedy or drama series. Is that acting as a collaborative are and I loved that Saga Award stance by that doc because it all like the you know all awards shows whether it's music or whether it's movies it's really always the actor d'Or or the singer. The musician die gets recognized for the work. But even you know we have to really look at the whole picture that this you know. Well Smith wouldn't have done such an amazing job and bad boys for life if it wasn't for the stunt doubles of it wasn't for the cinematographers is a music the costumes everything. So that's really what I like about the saga awards and how I believe they stand out from the Oscars words or the Golden Globes. Because they really take into account that acting as a collaborative project same with music. I mean very rare do like the producers of albums of such albums get recognized for like when we think of Like drake like drake or beyond those like a list. Top of the line musicians and they're the ones who get recognized for their work but hardly do we recognize like the producers the ones who are really the engineers of The music project like they're the ones who should be credited as well because without their beats send their musical talent in the keyboard and in the studio. We wouldn't have these amazing albums that we plan our cars in the gym. You know so. I really really liked that about the Sagamore and how they really take into account the assemble of the film of the project. So I really liked that about them and I'm going to start listing off some of the recipients of these thirteen awards and the first one is going to be for outstanding performance by Viacom cast in a motion picture and this one made Muse major headlines. This was awarded to parasite and parasite ended up beating the other motion pictures such as Joe. Joe Rabbit the Irishman once upon a time in Hollywood and bombshell and and the reason why parasite made such major headlines for winning. This specific award is because they just made history Bong Jun Jun Ho. He is the director of this film parasite they just made history at the saga wards as the first AARP first ever foreign language film home to take home this prestigious award. This statue forecast in a motion picture the very first non English language film to Win This award for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture so that is amazing on his a huge win and for South Korea. And I love how Especially Asian American actors Asian actors. They're getting a lot more representation in in the media because that's been a huge of issue within the cinema world. Is that a lot of Asian Americans or Asians General are very very underrepresented in film and TV. And this is such a huge stepping stone for not just South Korea but also just for like the Asian community so I just love. I love how they're being seen and they're being valued for their work and they're being recognized for their work and it was really Q- I thought because during the awards show when all of the cast members were up on stage accepting this award Bong Jun Ho. The director was has left us down at the audience table and he was there. He looked like a typical mom like recording them so happy. Have you guys ever seen gene. That mean of Kris Jenner Chris Kris Jenner recording. Kim Kardashian she goes. You're doing amazing sweetie. That's literally Audubon. Juninho was doing for its cast member so he was like such a proud dad as seemed like such a proud dad. He was there with his iphone recording the cast members and I just thought was such like a touching moment. I really loved that moment of the night and it's relieved rare honestly to see. I like artists celebrities at award shows when they are at the podium accepting their awards it's very rare to see like their family or you know their spouse. Whoever they came with the award show to be like recording them in that way? So I like to see that US. Regular alert. People can relate to such big name directors. You know they do the same regular people stuff such as like recording and looking like proud MOMS in dad so I thought that was the most memorable moments of the night and such a huge win for them and for the Asian community so huge congrats to everybody who was involved solved in a parasite in this project. Moving on the winner for outstanding performance by female actor in a leading role role was renee Zellweger. She's been like nominated left and Ryan every single Upcoming movie awards ceremony and she. She just won for outstanding performance in a leading role for her performance in the movie. Judy and this was the exact same category. She she wine at the Golden Globes and she just took the another w four This exact same win for the saga of wards which we'll see at the Oscar. She was also nominated in the same category. So we'll see if she continues that streak and outstanding performance by Mel Mel actor in a leading role was given rewarded too of course who else Joaquin Phoenix for his performance his iconic I comic and PEP impeccable memorable remarkable. All of those adjectives amazing performance. For Joker he two one in this exact same category just like Renee Zellweger for the men's category. He also won for best male actor in a leading role at the Golden Globes. which again again? I am not surprised because he has done outstanding work. And I'm sure you guys have picked up on this by all of the previous times. I've mentioned him for his work in joker so I'm not surprised he took home this award and now moving on outstanding downing performance by a female actor in a supporting role was rewarded to Laura dern for her performance in marriage story she ended up beating Jennifer Lopez. Scarlett Johansson.

'Parasite' opens important door for foreign language films with SAG win
"Wins for outstanding performance by a cast in emotion. Patriot was the first foreign foreign language film to win. This which is a really big deal and cool. It's really cool. I Love I could even if I never saw the film. If I never knew anything about it I could watch even just on on Mute People's reactions to winning. Yeah it's like it's euphoric. I hope hope this last thing I want to say I pray to God that Jen Aniston is somebody who presents a word at the Oscars because I cannot handle an award show where she's not there. I don't even want to think about it. Imagine it I've become accustomed to a certain lifestyle and I refuse to give that up. That's what we were saying is that that's why this award award season. Thus far has been so like lit and so- celebrity like a list. Celebrities are the star power in this cycle. Michael of content is so you know reese Jen Laura dern and they're all in like multiple projects. Brad Leo Narrow Yeah Merrill it's like the most amazing squad of celebrities that I I just can't wait for the rest of the season and I hope that they're at all the shows and I love also through the season how they kind of learn like they get back on the horse or you know they start off a little bumpy with the fashion and the red carpet and the the vibe seeing everyone think about it it's like the first part you're seeing everyone for the first time but then as award season goes on you know. She's seen Brad every weekend now for the past month so it's like hey she gets more familiar. A little more comfortable as arose once inside. Best Season is awards season. Ain't that the
Jen and Brad Hug at the SAG Awards
"Pitt and Jennifer Aniston reunited. Yeah I did last night at the awards and it was actually insane. First of all Brad gave this amazing speech like in one single breath. He managed to talk about about Quentin Tarantino's foot fetish also bringing up the fact that he likes his character in once upon a time in Hollywood didn't quote get on with his wife and quote. A lot of people are saying this was his way of bringing up his recent marital problems with X. Angelina Jolie I mean yeah obviously fleet. It's also extra loaded. Because Jen Aniston was in the audience looking like happy for him and and and just like beaming kind of maybe. I'm reading too much into that. But there are pictures to prove it. I'M GONNA oppose the receipts to the INSTAGRAM. Follow us at celebrity to follow along with the visual aid for this story anyway. He gave that speech which I highly recommend you watch the full video of and after he won. Jen Aniston ended up winning her award for her role in morning show while she was giving her acceptance speech. Broad was photographed photographed watching it backstage on monitor like longingly. After she finished her speech she came backstage. And the two X.'s. Are you ready. Are you ready for this. Are you sitting down the two axes hugged folks. They hugged and and you need to just look At the picture of them hugging. I can't describe it better than just you looking at it because famously pictures are worth a thousand words you know. That's what they say and this picture is well. I mean the chemistry is just. It's too much I can't I can't handle I think the entire world's heart stopped beating for a second when we all saw that picture. Anyway after the Hug Jen pulled holdaway and made like this face that kind of looked like she was saying. Oh my God we did not just do that. It's kind of like a grimace anyway. She walked off and then brad grabs her hand holzer. Like don't go. Don't leave me you. I love this so much. I can't wait for like every CELEB- gossip website to like call in their body language experts. Don't you love when like an article. Has referenced a body language expert. I'd love to go to Grad School and get my degree in body language expertise. I'd make so much money anyway. Does this mean Brandon Jenner back together. Of course not no probably not. But AH maybe maybe. Like come on broaden John I know you're listening to Celeb- news ride home. Just do it. Just get back together. It'd be so funny see. We're all happy it's so funny just do it come on just do it. Just it'd be a funny bit. Just try it. Just get back

"Hanks be involved in. It had never happened. They had tried and it hadn't happened. And then I brought it to him. And he said, yes, so everybody was like, whoa. How did you do that? That was great. And then we just had such an incredible shoot. And Matthew Reese is really the lead of the movie he plays the journalist who's interviewing Mr. Rogers, and he's just incredible to now that's two films. Where one of the lead characters the focus of the film is based on a real person three. Of course. Right. Right. Right. Yes. Of course, now, so not by design with someone as memorable and sort of, you know, images in film clips or TV lives of Fred Rogers, or you know, myriad. Do you go for like, the direct impersonation? Or is it more just like the spirit of the person? Definitely not the direct person my approach when when making these movies based on real people, which honestly I did not intend to do. It. Just happened is that we can never feel like we're doing a sketch version of this person or we're trying to do an imitation with Tom Hanks. He doesn't look exactly like, Fred Rogers. But there was something energy wise that was just right. Essence wise similarly with Melissa she really doesn't look that much like Lee. But there is an essence there is an energy. And if feels so much more important that we get the essence, right? And that it feels natural and that it feels real and motivated and based in truth. Then in imitation. And I think if the actors get bogged down in trying to do an imitation. You're in trouble. Because if you're watching them work, it's not gonna feel real you're in trouble. So that's never my approach. Yeah. It's always about that. Feeling like, we get the essence. Right. And then it can feel really real interest f-full. Yeah. Yeah. I won't. I won't I won't name it. But I just recently saw a movie where the impersonation becomes the whole energy of the moving. You're like, okay. I see every choice, and it's exhausting personally as a viewer that's too too much work, and it feels too. So you're watching an acting class or something. Nineteen class or you're watching as no catch or you're watching, you know, just a really great impersonator. And you don't get to get lost in the story. And I'm not interested in that do. Well, I hate to ask you before we close out here a about the future given that you're working on the next thing already. But like is there a Jonah or of mode or some or a or a medium that you want to do in the future that you haven't gotten to yet? Or I don't know yet. I feel like I'm going to have to see where we go politically as a country where I am emotionally in my personal life because I think, you know, more than kind of having this carefully traced out career path. I'm more I'm kind of trying to constantly check in with my own self and figure out what I wanna do. And how it how I can have a conversation with the world through whatever I'm making. And when I made diary of a teenage girl, I felt very clear that there was a void of voices. That were telling the story of. What it was to be a teenage girl what it is to be sexually curious teenage girl. And I felt so it was like it was a conversation with the world that I wanted to scream and with can you ever forgive me? Similarly, I felt like why are we not telling stories about women like this?.

"A writer is filled with pain. I think that's just true. No matter how successful you are. I'm that's a depressing thing to say. But I think it really is true. Yeah. And Lee is sort of the pit me of that you see how much she identifies with her writing as part of herself. And the fact that she hasn't been recognized for her true gifts is so painful for her. I mean, it really hurts her soul in a deep level. And she wasn't deluded. She was that talented that she was talented in a different life in a different world. She could have been one of the great writers of the day. But she was wrong turns and the wrong bedside manner and the wrong whatever had led her to a place where she really was not appreciated for what she did. And I mean, I remember when we were working on the court scene with her. I was trying to come up with the worst sentiment. She could have about herself when she really is the most down on herself. What is the worst thing? She could say about herself. And it was I think I've realized I'm not a real writer, and I think any artist no matter what life you're living. No matter if you're living as a professional artist or an amateur artist. That's something that's deep in your heart. And his your passion, we can all relate to that feeling of imposter syndrome. An m I a real writer am I real artist? What is it to be a real writer or a real artist for me? I think I just want to constantly be challenged and feel like whatever I'm doing is pushing me artistically, and that I'm finding new ways to grow personally through the art that I'm making and so far I'm feeling really good about that. I just wrapped a movie that I'm making about mister Rogers. I'm working with Tom Hanks and the project was very different from my first two movies. And I felt really artistically challenged a great way. And so I don't know if all even keep directing forever. I don't know if I'll keep writing forever. I don't know what I'll do. But I just know that I'll keep trying to do things that are challenging me. And that are making me feel like I'm pushing myself 'cause I think as soon as you get complacent you're in trouble. And you mentioned that you started out in theater and diary teenage girl was. A play before it was a film is moviemaking where you've naturally ended up or was it something of a surprise to you that it was not by design. I will say that I really truly fell in love with writing. So I had been an actor. I had been working in off Broadway plays and doing theater in regional theaters around the country for many years, and I was frustrated by the types of roles I was getting I wasn't feeling as like a twenty eight year old woman. Like, there were a lot of parts that were really calling to my deep dark artistic soul. So when I came across this book diarrhea, but teenage girl, I decided I wanted to adapt it, and I wanted to play the lead character that was really the impulse behind it. And as I adapted it into a play I really fell in love with the process of writing. And the fact that I could choose win to do my art which was really hard part of being an actor for me that you had to wait for someone to say, okay today, you can do your art you could act on a streetcar. If you wanted, but you might get in trouble. Always work out. So well, we're at the thanksgiving dinner table. So I fell in love with the process of writing. And I started working with a writing partner in writing screenplays, and that just sort of happened naturally. My husband is a is a director and a and a writer and had been working in film and TV, and I had always sort of been in the theater world, and he had been in the film and TV world. But I found something interesting and challenging about writing screenplays that was exciting to me, and it felt like a more viable industry honestly to make a living as a writer felt like it's so hard to make a living as a playwright..

"This is your home. Right. It's really important to me that we take this that we kind of create this little sacred time at the beginning of each scene where we have private rehearsal. We get to really work out. How to live within the scene? I'm an actor originally. So for me, I feel like a lot of what I love about directing is working with actors and making sure that they feel really comfortable, and that they get to work out all of their tough questions, and that there's a safe space where they can say, you know, this line is feeling weird coming out of my mouth, and I can rewrite it or we can talk through how the build of a scene happens and really get into the darkest places of the scene in a private setting without two hundred crew members staring at us. And so that when we come into film, it it can happen pretty quickly. But that we've gotten to kind of do that rehearsal work on the day. I want to go back a little bit because you know, you had the dire of a teenage girl years ago. And it was this big Sunday ends hidden. You know, very well reviewed we saw side of Kristen wig. We'd never seen before. And then there was you this this first time director, I'm not naive enough to. I think that like once that premiered all opportunity lay at your feet. But like what do you do when you have a Sundance hit? And you're like what's next like, what is the thought process? They are what is the actual process there. Well, it's a weird thing. Because at least for me, I think I went through that movie took eight years to make all told, and I think I went through many years of sort of feeling like this underdog or like, I was fighting to get this movie made and and that sort of becomes your identity when you're an artist trying to pound on the doors of what feels like a big machine and get yourself heard, and then the movie happened, and I was so proud of it. And I was so proud of what we made and then people actually liked it. And then it was like, wait a minute. What what what does this mean now, and then your identity changes because suddenly I was getting really great opportunities. Brought to me. But I think it's a scary thought about what your second movie will be because you start to view yourself the longevity. Of your career who you want to be as an artist. And how each step is going to kind of tell a bigger story about you. So I was being offered teenage girl movies primarily I was being offered a lot of sex comedies is being offered things that were all like women as prostitutes often. Because I think there was a sense also that the voices were starting to diversify people were wanting movies from a female perspective. But also that I had made a movie with a lot of sex in it. So people thought that was something that I was going to be comfortable with. And so in all of these ways, I didn't want to become pigeonholed like I didn't want to be the teenage director because that wasn't why I made diary, it wasn't because I somehow wanna make why movies it was because if felt like an important story and voice that wasn't being told and I related to her so deeply, and I had all of this baggage for my own teenagehood of feeling misunderstood that. I wanted to tell. But then I felt like I had done it. And I couldn't imagine doing a teenage movie that I love nearly as much. So why would I try to do that again? So when this movie came my way, it was an Kerry had been one of my producers from diary, and she brought me this project, and she said Melissa McCarthy might be interested Nicole hall of center is one of the writers. And it would be making it with me. So it was these three really smart women within the industry who I respected, and that was the first draw for me, honestly was the idea of collaborating with a bunch of women that I loved and respected..

"That he's living sort of like the the floor has been pulled out from under him, and he's sort of floating, and he's been able to get by on his wit and charm for a long time, and that sort of running out, and that Lee has a very different reason that she finds herself so alone. She's really pushed everybody away in her life, and has all the anger of her kind of unrequited career that could have been very different. It's Wayne her down. So it was important to me that we sort of rooted in that context, but that it is really just it's really just the context for where our story begins. It's not what the story is about. And I think personally, I'm just tired of stories about white hetero. Sis men, so finding a story that wasn't focused on that. And that that is the starting point felt oddly revolutionary to me in a way that felt very simple. Yeah. How did Melissa? And Richard come onto this. I mean, I think the casting process were pretty different for both of them. But I'm just curious what the Genesis of that. So the project had had a previous life as many movies do takes practically a miracle for movie to get made. So when the project was brought to me by an Kerry who was the producer who originally option the material from me, she knew Leah's real. And it really was an carries baby. She had been shepherding this project for years and years. She had brought Jeff Whitty on. She had brought Nicole on in the whole when it had fallen apart. It felt like it was a project that wasn't going to happen. And then Melissa had read it and was interested in it. So and brought it to me it was already at the place where it was like Melissa is possibly interested in it read. This see what you think maybe we'll get the two of you together. And you can talk about it. And see if it's something you wanna do. So basically, Melissa, and I met and we had a great meeting. She had watched diary of a teenage girl, we had we had actually already met social. Before once or twice. So we had a little bit of context for each other. And we met to talk about leeann, we really agree. We just spoke the same language about her. And I think she had a sense from my first movie what sort of tone? I would take with the movie, and so we sort of agreed together to sign on and to make the movie so that is a very unconventional way to kind of cast somebody because it wasn't like I was attached to the movie, and then was looking for who is going to be the perfect person. The first time I read the script. I was reading it with Melissa in mind, and I couldn't imagine anybody else plainly, and then finding Richard was a bit of a different process. I was really aware of the fact that it was all about figuring out who was gonna work with Melissa then and who is going to be this sort of perfect foil for her and somewhere along the line. I decided that Jack should be English. He wasn't the real Jack was not in English. But there was something funny to me about this like. Sophisticated Englishman who doesn't know anything about books because we always as Americans think English people are so much smarter than us. And I just thought there was something really funny about that. And then it displaces them more because really get your, you know. New York is a city of of Wanderers. It's you know, it's a place where all of these people have made it their home. And they how did they get here? It made sense something about it just made perfect sense. So I went to Richard with the script. I mean that was a much more traditional way of approaching him. He was somebody. I wanted for the part for a long time, and I had been a fan of his for forever from with Nalen. I and also honestly seen him in girls had reminded me of how wonderful he is. We had him on the podcast, and he said that he got the girls gig because Lena Dunham had seen him in spice world when she was a kid. Oh my God..

"Want them to play their new stuff. Their new experimental stuff. Like is this the equivalent of that? And would her fans kind of reject it. But luckily, I feel like people who embrace Melissa embrace her for everything that she does in feel really excited to see this other facet of her. And I also worried I suppose that maybe people would view this movie that you'd have to know who Dorothy Parker was to enjoy the movie, which even though I never felt like that was true. I felt like feel like there's a lot to relate to in terms of Lee and Jack in the whole story. And I've been just pleasantly surprised that it feels like people see themselves in these characters relate to them. And I guess the other thing that's been a nice surprise. Is it feels like people are hungry for this type of movie in a way that I didn't know it was going to be true? I've heard more people than I can count say, oh, we don't make movies like this anymore felt like going to see. An old movie in a way that I loved. So that's been really nice. Yeah. I mean, it is. I don't mean this in a pejorative sense. But it's like a small movie, it's it's a it's a literary movie. It's. Character Jemma peace with a lot of comedy in it too. But it really is this movie that's about human emotion and about the things that aren't said about, you know. Yeah, it's very interior small movie. There is a version of this story of this movie that is heavy on the kind of cynical comedy and just making these people like real losers. And this is not that movie. Obviously, obviously Jeff Whitty in Cole hall of center wrote the script, and that's where this sort of tone starts. But then also you come in. And the performance says come in what was the balancing act like of trying to make this story engaging and funny and sad. But also cumin how how how hard is that calibration? I mean, I think actually it all goes back to Li's book because if you read Lee's book, you get a real sense of her as a person where she is biting and. You sense a real sadness to her life? But she's also so funny and a joy to spend time with. So it was always about finding that balance of somebody who has all of this baggage and all of this pain that she's bringing to the table, but who's got kind of the funniest take on the world as well. And letting that come through so and for me, the thing I was so attached to when I first got the script. And I think was the thing that I kind of brought out even more. So in the script was the relationship between leeann Jack, I found that to be the platonic love story to be the heart of the story as much as the crime in the literary kind of caper of it is really fun. I felt like the way we get to know these characters and the way they find each other in this world to be the thing that really drew me to it. And then it ended up in the thing I wanted to focus the movie the most onto, and I think that something that I responded to in a lot of other like.

"But you'd still be pinned to that. And so the only thing to do it's like with the White House correspondents dinner where they've finally given up on it because it was like the only thing you can do is be somebody like Michelle Wolff who's just like, well, I'll use this as a kamikaze mission to get better known. And it'll work. Yeah. That's the only other what? But there's no point in like trying to do a good show. Like you can't win on the question of do we need an Oscar host like originally. I was of the mind that like we should just have someone come do an opening musical number. And that person should definitely be Hugh Jackman, and maybe Anne Hathaway, and then and then just like have people read categories, but you're right, Richard that like you need someone there to like be steering the ship in case. Like Italy does go wrong like because we we have all forensically broken down. What happened with the moonlight thing and Jimmy Kimmel like a huge part to play in sort of trying to write the chaos, you know, and and sort of end did a good job and got him. I did I did a really good job. And so like, you know, an and occasionally like an Oscar host will come out and like comment on something. You know, it's not always like great comedy. But they'll be like, oh, hey that just happened. That's interesting. You know, and that that makes it feel like sort of interactive in a way that just I think a rolling roster of. Of people reading out nominations doesn't doesn't have the same effect. I don't know. I don't think it'd be the worst thing in the world for one to host. And I also completely agree that it is a lose lose lose situation. But also like since we since we talked about it last week. Like, I guess was just astonishing to me in all of this. That happened with Kevin Hart. I will just say is that nobody did a backer. This. I don't know someone said that they did. And that they were you know, they took a calculated risk or whatever. But I just find it. So interesting that they apparently insisted that he apologize. He refused to apologize quit. And then apologized, so it wasn't really an issue about apologizing was really an issue of him just being like, I don't actually want to deal with this like, it's a huge pain. And it's not worth it. I mean, that's what's really kinda scary about the whole thing. The coolest idea that I heard was David Lynch, and I would add Laura Dern. I just want. But or like, maybe it should just be just start to show with like Kendrick Lamar doing the song from Black Panther. And then like have you know, like the way LL cool J does two Grammys. You know, just kinda like it was just like come in. That words, and, you know, keep it rolling with Kendrick Lamar Annely Gaga somehow like do wedding lay putting those songs too. It might be an abomination, but I would wanna watch corny late night skit like Billy crystal. You know, that's a long time ago. Also like. What are the jokes this year? What's in that monologue? Everything's awful. I don't really know a lot of what Kanda forever jokes. I guess if you don't have a white host. Yeah. I mean, that's the other thing about the, you know, so I wrote I wrote something about Kevin Hart, and how it kinda just felt like an another sort of. You know piece of the narrative of the Oscars is not really caring about like gave yours even though there's sort of a central part of their their their core fan base and something I did not talk about in the piece, and I should have. And I regret and also just is which is such a bigger part of this conversation is is that like it was the it was an good exciting choice for them to hire a person of color to host the show and Kevin Hart for all of his bad tweets and sentiments in stand up specials like is in the large part..

"I mean love seeing leaky Stanfield here for sorry to bother you. And I love seeing Charlie's thrown for telly. So yeah, I think it's I yeah. I do think that that kind of opens it up a little bit. And makes it a little more. I will say from my point of view when I was like, I went I did it. I this is my first year doing about it. So I'm sorry. If I'm talking about it too much, but I did it from top down. And when you get to the bottom is where all the stuff, isn't it actually made me go up and change so myself at the top. So like, you know, if I nominate Keith down and calm like, you know, what maybe he just deserves it for the main category too. You know, like, it's it's just it's an interesting sort of wait till look at things. I'm just sorry. We couldn't get a comedy nomination for blockers. I I was I tried so hard. But game night game night got in there. Right. So yeah. I gotta enrich mcadams got him for going for for blockers. Who would you put in there? Johnson. Put enrich Geraldine is her first name who is one of the daughters. I think her in for actress in a comedy. Yeah. Yeah. And I put Leslie man in there because I just really liked what she did own. I thought I burn holes in there because I thought he was great Geraldine vis vis want Swanson vis Viswanathan. Sorry, I'm I'm butchering her name. But she's so awesome. In that movie. That's a great. He's awesome nation. Next time. I have to whip harder. Can I can I both were were on the nominating committee for this? Who do I have to talk to about the best action movie ready player one nomination? Right in vote in Richard. Just like remember that Steven Spielberg movie that came out this year? I mean widows also gonna miss action movie nomination in I love windows, but that's not an action movie gets an action movie the pig. Well, this is what I'm talking about the like the. Yeah, the pixies did fills limit action. I've just feel like it's mission impossible's like well, guess could again there. But yeah. So let's hope briefly, and again, we're having a conversation about Oscar host, and it's very possible by the tiny listen to this. They will have picked an Oscar hostess this was happened to us last week when Kevin Hart had been chosen and then by the time many people heard last week's episode. He had already quit the latest report. I think from variety was that the academy is considering having no host both because no one wants to do it. And they keep trying to get the ceremony to be shorter. I'm kind of okay with this. Even though it feels sad and weird that no one wants to host the Oscars. Do you guys feel like they have a better option at this point? Then to just get a bunch of different people to take on hosting duties and move on. Well, I think part of it is that you know, we may see how ever many minutes of an opening monologue. And then some interstitial jokes throughout the evening. And it seems like okay, it's just the X men of work. But like it actually is. Is a lot of preparation, and you have to assemble writers and all that stuff. And it's now, you know, two weeks from Christmas. I just don't. And so the awards show is in what like. Little over two months. There's just not a lot of time. And so maybe part of the reason that people are reticent to accept the job. Now is will. Yes, because it's embroiled in controversy. But also like there's just like it's is it going to be good. You know? So maybe that's the thinking is that they're like, you know, why bother having like kind of like half hearted or whatever, you know, replacement host. And maybe we'll just try different format. Have I already quoted Richard Russia tweet about this. Because it just haunts me. He just said who wants to be next in the emphas- barrel. Worst-case scenario your career is destroyed. Best case scenario, you get blamed for a boring show, and like dropping ratings like what's the upside the ladder is really the sticking thing where it's like, you know, if like you could do a great job and the ratings we have nothing to do with you..

"Hugh Grant, very scandal. Okay. And then you Hawkins King Lear Bill. Pullman the center these are not like many series or movies or performances. Three of those are not ones that we've been like talking that much about in the context. And so I think the center I think just got Beal got nominated for the center at the sags last year. I seem to remember her popping up and me, and I had not been paying attention to that show at all at that point. So clearly they're paying attention to it. And you know, for we we did our podcast on the Senate earlier this year that I helped with and I watched it both good on it. I mean, he's not there in Christian association of Johnny Vittachi. But you know, no one is by will probably win. Yeah. I mean like fun like Anthony Hopkins. Bill Pullman Antonio Medeiros can have their I'm gonna just I'm not like begrudging them that it's not the usual lineup that we've been seeing. And that's just was kind of interesting to me. This is just a make good. For Hugh Grant, not getting nominated for Paddington to the way he deserves. How weird is it? That Henry Winkler and Bill Hader are both nominated for lead in bury my favorite show because I I'm just looking I don't think they have supporting for television. Is that possible? Oh, and that's how you get like a Julia garner. So weird though. Yeah. Yeah. And Alex foreseen for MRs Mazel in broke who like won the supporting EMMY, and Tony shalhoub and stuff like that. That's interesting. I wonder how often a supporting can actually be to lead, especially when you're in the same show, which seems to be fair amount of that as an aside. If people haven't read Emily new review of marvelous MRs Mazel season two it's quite quite a pan. It's it's worth reading. I mean, it's just an interesting kind of counter narrative to what else has been written in joining we can beat our briefly for the critics choice nominations. If we want to or hang our heads in shame. I feel pretty good about a lot of nominations. I was looking the supporting actor lists is essentially the same as sag plus Michael, Jordan. So that was something that got. Called correctly. There's Leifer I man, which we all know, it made me very happy anything that really stood up for you. Katie singlehandedly whipped all the critics choice votes for. I'm the Nancy Pelosi of. Choice awards. It was so interesting like filling out this ballot in the first place. I'm allowed to say that we're like we nominate three different things every category. And that just feels so like liberating, I'm like, I don't have to pick just one fun or and you have to pretend which is like it's like this a nice middle ground. Yeah. Exactly. And so you just like you get to put it, you know, you get to put it in your like think they'll win. And then also like, but I really liked this has no shot at winning, you know, but I'm gonna put it in your anyway. And that's why I think you get such like a weird wide mix. The credit store is gonna think some of those like longshots wind up getting in there by accident almost. Yeah. I'm I'm not displeased by what we've come up with here. I love that. You guys got you'll eat operates yo in there for Roma. I did that well done. Antonie collect for hereditary another best Coletta. I was really pleased to see. Yeah. Exactly. And there's a lot of like John ra-. I mean, we there are genre categories or critics choice. You know? So it's fun to like a plan those categories, but I think that also winds up what that what that makes us. Do. I were made me do anyway is consider PO more populists cinema side by side with award cinema. And I was I was sort of messaging, Katie. And I was like am I allowed to vote for this that this category? Like, the the boundaries sort of blurb at more. When you're considering them all together. Did I just make an argument that we should have a popular movie on that? Maybe I don't know. There's some great picks in the comedy categories..

"Of like today, rigor you or was recently. It's it feels like something from a from five years ago. Absolutely. Join I know you were excited for an stone getting donate for maniac, which I was like Richards. The last defender, you're to last meeting active under out there the last I think she's brilliant on that on that show. She's great in it like the issues that Richard. And I talked about both maniac and Ozark on are still watching podcast. You can listen to main. I talked to Julia garner for actually for maniac, but you know, the maniac issues that we had. I think if I recall Richard were maybe Amazon's co-star, not Emma stone. We really liked Emma stone's, performance and. I really love that show like all around her. So, you know. Yeah, I'm here for the double Emma stone nomination. Why not as a lot of fun? Double nominations, Emily blunt. Yeah. All these people who I at least think of as redheads, Emily blunt, Amy Adams, and Emma stone, all got double nominations, Emily. The only one who got them both for movies, which is why I'm only blend is a red head. I don't believe in divorce. Prod? I think she's around head. I think that's where that comes from and like she and Amy Adams Wade, sisters and sunshine cleaning, so they've always been linked to my brain. Anyway, speaking of only blunt, her husband, John Krasinski is nominated for best actor for Jack. Ryan, okay. Let me talk about Jack. Ryan. I have not seen Jack Ryan. But I know this Jack Ryan while I believe this to be true that Jack Ryan was far away Amazon's most successful show this year that a million gazillion people watch that show and just know critics talked about it, and Amazon is terrified now that you have their internal documents and like cracked the code because I don't there's there's ratings data out there. Like, the the rap has a write up about this, even go Google this. This is true that like so many people watch Jack Ryan, and I don't know if it's just because like, you know, it's based on air airport airplane books, and you're on Amazon and watching airplane book show. I don't know. But like that was a huge show that we like that kind of flew under the critical radar because it's just sort of like, I don't know popcorn TV in a way. So I watched every single episode of that show in one sitting on like some sort of. I could not tell you a single thing about what happens on that series. Even though I've seen every episode. But it I just I just think it's interesting that like a month or two removed from having binge the show. However, people watch the show that like when in this nominating process there, really. Oh, yeah. Kristen ski for that. Like having seen all of it. I'm like that would never come to mind to nominate him, but well, maybe not back to my theory that I just came up with ten minutes ago. Yeah. I think he's another one that people are rooting for because I need someone to fill that sort of you know, in that role. It's like it's like whatever, I don't know Tom Cruise Harrison Ford Kiefer Sutherland, I'm mixing up the different if those guys all directed a hit movie. Yes. In the same year. Yeah. So I mean, you want you want a guy like him to come out of comedy. That's a Tom Hanks moved to and become but but then become like an action star. I don't know. I that's what I see in. This is like especially with the men for some reason. There's this kind of like all right? We need our next generation of like big. Stars. Let's let's give them a boost. I don't know. Yeah. No. I mean, maybe that's the maybe people. That's what they want for themselves. And so they are idle ising I dunno or a mix. Yeah. It's fun to be on team, Emily blunt, John Krasinski,.

"And in the second half episode. We're gonna share Richards interview with Marielle Heller director of Kenya. Ever. Forgive me, a movie that we kind of can't stop talking about and have all huddled on for fiction for so that'll be fun to listen to. But first let's start with the sag awards. Maybe there's a lot of surprises to talk about. What seems like it happens every year with the sags? I wanted to start by the outstanding performance by a cast and motion picture, which is essentially their equivalent of best picture guys. What was the though he mean rhapsody arena? Have to keep talking about this. It's almost as if the Screen Actors Guild was like Richard you now have to watch this movie. Avoiding studiously for over a month. Last week. Okay. Gotta say Ryan Malik very very good this movie, and I went in and being like, he's not going to be that good. He's very very good. There's a lot of issues of the movie, and like, you know, Hillary outline them aplenty in earlier episode, but I understand some of the nominations. I don't understand the unsolvable nomination. At all. I've not gotten off the Bradley Cooper train. I'm still on the Bradley Cooper train. But I'm like, ROY Molly could be like a side car something that that. I am unfor- best actor. Yeah. Yeah. I got it. I do. But you you can't figure out how it made it into the on samba category, which presumably not just Alex performance than then they liked it so much they nominated him twice. I mean, the other members of the guys who play the other members of Queen are, very affable. And then you've got like, Tom Hollander, doing something. You know, there's an and Lucy Boynton is actually very good in the film. But like who knows what happens inside the mind of a nominee nominee tower. But you know, sometimes I think they're like oh. That movie is a lot of people. I'll go ahead and nominate that I don't know. I don't know how these on samba mom nations come through sometimes. But how in the heck do you give three nominations to Olympia Coleman, Emma stone and Rachel vice in the favorite, and then not give them an ensemble award or nomination. It's just especially because like like a star is born is kind of the three people that they nominated it kind of is league M Elliott and Bradley Cooper. But the favorite. You've got nNcholas whole you go got Joe all when you got these really funny small supporting parts there's so much going on in that. Yeah. I wonder if it is that sort of like, there's a lot of stars in this or or is there a kind of spreading around or who knows or maybe it's just we're probably over thinking it as usual the way, it makes sense in my head is like we've got a lot of people in this movie. But none of whom I could see giving supporting actor nomination to. Let's just give it a a like, a, you know, I think of that for like crazy rich, Asians, though, I could see like Michelle Yeoh getting an supporting nominee lake. There's a bunch of great minor roles in that film, craze rotations makes a lot of sense to me in the unsolvable category..

"Yuli terms from reporter genuine mata was at the sag awards yesterday earlier today she told me about it it is amazing the fag after organizers of this year sag award took this opportunity in this moment in time in the culture for women for women in hollywood to make it an all female presenter sag awards and the result was really overwhelmingly positive power a full third of collective statement from beginning to end not just during the telecast what you saw in which people watching at home saw but being there on the ground it was celebrate tori and everybody was really happy to have sag after making the statements and it's also by the way the host this is the first time ever had a host as my understanding and it was woman it was kasindo who is delightful and i think she'd host more award shows really do you think that there is a future for her the oscars perhaps i think they shouldn't be i mean she certainly incredibly engage aging and is able to do that unique sing the all ords hollywood awards show host need to do which is poke fun at a hollywood to an audience that represents those jokes the other great things that i think that sag after did last night with their platform was to during the telecast mentioned this new code of conduct that they're developing to address sexual harassment in the industry and beyond and i think if you look at what the producers guild also did this week which is truly an eightpage document of guidelines for producers to ensure sexual harassment does not happen on their stuff during their productions i think we're seeing a lot of these industry groups and industry leaders really trying to make actionable movement forward practical concrete guidelines for how people in this industry can curb harassment and abuse.
