"Big bazinga game second, don't really finish third. The legendary Dan Lloyd Zelle with the call of the 2013 running of the grey stakes at woodbine, amis holiday getting the victory and the meese holiday would go on to a brilliant career. After that victory at two, and there have been several horses to come through the gray stakes and go on to do some big things, including you might remember, Kentucky Derby winner, mine that bird who took the gray stakes in his two year old campaign and the gray being renewed later today at woodbine along with the mazarine stakes. It's a huge day of racing north of the border and to tell you more about it. I welcome in woodbine handicapper Jeff bratt here on the equine form on the horse racing radio network. Jeff, good morning. Good morning, Mike. It's actually going to be an unseasonably warm day in Toronto. So I'm very much looking forward to it. We've had our first snowfall that has now melted. So we're good to go for today's 11 race program. First snowfall. Look, we're not even into December yet. We'll be hearing about first snowfalls. Welcome to ked, my friend, especially Toronto, where the weather changes every 5 minutes. Yeah, it does, I'm glad it's going to be a beautiful day because you have those two outstanding stakes races. And let's just start Jeff. I mentioned a couple of big names. Mine that bird amis holiday. There have been some tremendous horses to come through these races and go on to do big things in their career. Yes, you're right about that. And it's kind of been all over the place in terms of schedule into it used to be earlier in the season and they moved it later in the year as well. And we have seen some big horses win this race in the past. I was actually looking back at last year, this race and the mazarin, the grill equivalents. And while the winners of these races from last year have not had great success this season, the also rans have done very well this year. So it's not only the winners that officially do very well, but it's horses that maybe finish second third and fourth but also do some good things next year as well. Yeah and folks will be treated to Robert Geller's call later this afternoon. You heard Dan Lois coming out of the break and I said this earlier, whenever he can work in calls from people like Dan Lloyd, you have to do it because he had such a unique voice and I know he's missed up there in Canada at woodbine racing fans are certainly missing him, but he's one of the best that ever did it. Great guy too. He still gives me a hard time pretty much on a weekly basis. He had tax. So he likes to give me a hard sign from time to time, but Danny's a great time. Lucky to call him a very good friend and he always brought up the crescendo in a race call. He kind of reminded me a little bit of a Dirk and you'd always brought it at the start off at a low cadence and then really brought the excitement throughout the race call. So yeah, and we missed the ending, but we're very lucky to have Robert two two totally different types of callers. But we've been very blessed to have some great race callers that would buy. Yeah, and two people very passionate about the sport, a thoroughbred racing. We'll talk about today's stakes races in a moment, but before we do, I want to just ask you about this past meet this summer into the fall. One horse that stands out to me when I think about woodbine 2022 is moira. And the queen's plate winner. So brilliant. And it proved that she was no fluke that day. And she was so good leading up to the queen's plate. What moments are going to stand out to you when you think back on the meat here in 2022? Yeah, you know, I mean, she's obviously right there in the mix of things, for sure. She's kind of had some epsom flows in her season because everything was going great until the EP Taylor and then she just had bad racing left in that race. She probably deserved a little bit better than what she got on that particular occasion, which was eventually disqualified for causing interference. And then she gets a bad draw on the breeder's cup and she was just too far off the pace and that day she came with a bit of a run there, but at least she saw that she belongs like at least she shows that she's competitive against the best of the best. I think next season she's going to be even better. And I think another storyline for me, Mike would be the presence of Canadian based horses and the breeders cup. Like Cheryl spites with a little more luck, maybe beats modern games, then you have really spite spear. She ran great for roger. She finished third in her race, Cairo consort ran well to finish the third place position like all these horses from whitby and then went down there. There were big prices, but they all ran well. So that's kind of one of the themes for me too as well. Just to see that our horses belong on the big stage as well. So it's pretty proud of that. Yeah, I agree with you. It was great to see. And I know it's going to continue into next year as well. 11 races carded for today, I'm visiting with woodbine handicapper Jeff bratt, who is going to walk through a couple of the stakes races for you. The two big ones, the gray stakes, and the mazarine, the gray grade three. It's going to be contested as race number three on the 11 race program. It's a 7 horse field mile in the 16th on the all weather and the favorites roll is going to go to hell, but bluebirds over ships in from Florida for trainer safi Joseph junior, is it hell and everybody else or are there some others in here that people should keep an eye on? Well, the problem is is that our Cassie has cross entered Phillies in the gray. So essentially what he's done is he's getting a free look see at both races, right? So he's entered some of the Phillies in the mazarine, these enter them in the gray as well. So I'll tell you this much. I don't know what race forever Dixie is going in, but she's a talented Philly. And she did not have a great trip last time out in the glorious song states with fish in second. She's out of a mayor that did a lot of good things. The fact that when the Prince of Wales takes, as a matter of fact, against the boys. So that family line is no stranger to being the boys. In terms of how, here's a bit of an interesting story, Mike, I was talking to the connections, he was a total mess when he came in because he was, he was so Scottish that eventually they had to cut them and now he's just he's so mature. Now he's so laid back now. I think it's going to have no problem going around the two turns, the replay in regards to bluebirds over that is so intriguing as he was really ranked when around the first turn at Gulfstream and rarely do two year olds overcome that when they're fighting the rider and they don't really want to settle. Not only did he settle, he won big. He won by a massive margin as well. So I think he focused on the two key contenders in that race. I'm just taking how because I think he's a little bit more seasoned at this point. But man, that was an impressive first career start for bluebirds over. Yeah, very, very impressive. And as you said, drew off the win by 8 lengths that day. Of the long shots. There were a couple that you say, all right, if things break their way, maybe they have the ability to pull this thing off. That would be more tourists for me on the inside. I think he beat a really good field. The third place manager came back and ran okay yesterday here at blind, but the way that motorists did it, like he just drew off on that occasion. It was the first time going around two turns. And I just was really impressed with how we ran that particular occasion.

"Competition. With the call of race 9 at Gulfstream. Locked in all set. And runners away. Poor beginnings for wheat shift and fight at the back. Good start for little big who heads off for the early lead royal latitude is on to challenge song runner displaying speed. He's on the far outside third. Dominican ice was away in traffic with mighty miracle just ahead of him. Then wech and fight his last. Half a mile from the finish, Sunny Leone and royal attitude clear a length and a quarter. Little big is second songwriter on the outside third. These top three have four on mighty miracle who's in front of the big favorite Dominican ice. He'll have to giddy up from there three back to wheat shift and fight his last. Around the four turn they went the opening quarter in a strong 22 and one. Royal attitude has the lead song runner closer second and now songwriter powers up to challenge for control driven third little big Dominican ice is really have to get going now. He's still in with the chance while gaining ground on the far outside. 45 and one for the opening half mile. Here's royal latitude with a re bid on the inside of song runner. 8th of a mile ago, royal attitude digging in gamely song runner trying to get by four back to Dominican ice 16th to go, drifting around royal attitude, taking a shot song runner, Dominican ice on late, royal attitude wins. Second song runner third was Dominican ice that it was mighty miracle and WeChat. Unofficially 5 7 three four in the 9th and final at Gulfstream park, the favorite once again does not get the job done kind of a late running non menacing third from Dominican ice, which certainly is not going to make favorite players very happy. Royal attitude looked like he had every chance to give it up to number 7 song runner in the stretch. He was drifting inside now, would not surprise me at all if there is at least a look from the judges because if you can see it on the plane on the pan shot while they're running, then it's usually worse than that, but the rider never stopped riding on the runner up song runner and did end up still finishing seconds. So I'm not really sure if there was something that happened if it was strong enough to cause a change in the order of finish unofficially 5 7 three four the order of finished royal attitude was sunny Leon aboard for David Fox, the unofficial winner of the 9th and final over at Gulfstream park. We'll get you those prices once they go official. We need to get over to aqueduct, though. And aqueduct, they are getting ready for their 8th race on the card. 6 furlongs on the firm outer turf course. It's an optional claiming allowance event for New York bread Phillies and mayors that are non winners of two other than or in for a claiming tag of $45,000, scratch numbers ten and 11, they were both listed main track only, so we've got 9 of them going to post here and it's number four towering orbit who's getting some action right now at the windows. He was or rather she was 6 to one on the morning line, but bet in half down to three to one actually favored for safi Joseph junior and Jose Ortiz. I always find this funny. Everyone knows that saffy Joseph junior is not at aqueduct. He's in Florida. So, you know, his name, he got his name there and he's probably got a few runners at aqueduct. This was a horse that was claimed away from Charlton baker at the end of August up at Saratoga and just basically stayed in New York and why not? She's a New York bread. She should stay in here. We don't even, we don't know if saffy Joseph has ever even seen. Towering orbit, but he is listed as the trainer of towering orbit, and that's when so you get all the stats of first after the claim and this and that, but I always find that a little bit funny. By the way, there is an objection over at Gulfstream park. So I wasn't seeing things down the stretch and the top two finishers have their numbers lit up right now. Royal attitude song runner, the objection sign is up. The only thing that bothers me about the objection sign being up is it's not an inquiry. If Pete I yellow calling the race is saying that the winner is drifting. If anyone watching the race can see that the winner is drifting and possibly bumping the second place finisher. Why is the inquiry sign that up? It doesn't mean they have to take this horse down. But if it's very obvious to the announcer and people watching that something looked a little wonky down the stretch, why do we need the objection? Why does there have to be? And by the way, I don't know if it's a jockey's objection, a trainer's objection or an owner's objection. That's true. Owners are allowed to object. You don't get it very often and for the most part when owners make an objection and that's you can basically count on it never coming down. But why did we have to wait because this goes back to the same thing with The Kentucky Derby when maximum security rant? The whole world watching that race saw that something happened going into the far turn. We don't know what happened, but we saw something happened. Maximum security, you know, as it turned out, shifted out a little bit, and half of the field looked like they were affected. But there was no stewards inquiry in the race. And there ended up being a claim of foul, and then the inquiry sign went up after that. But this is the same thing as that. Whether it's true or not, it makes you think that the stewards are not doing a very good job. Why could they not have put their sole job these three people is to while the race is going on is to watch the race and make sure there are no fouls. That's it. That's all they're watching in this race. Everyone got a fair start. No one causes any interference to anyone else. That's fine. And that's that.

"The first Gulf Stream race we looked at during our show today and that's kind of where we are with number 8 sees the hay Carlos David the trainer Kevin krigger aboard the son of carpe diem who was 13 to one against tougher competition on the synthetic track last time out and was only beaten a length that day kind of looks to me like a repeat of that race would easily make him the one to beat. I don't know if I want four to 5. You know my feelings on the synthetic track races at Gulfstream to begin with. They are, I didn't think they ever needed to put the synthetic track in there. I'm not a fan of those races. But it is what it is. You play, this is the hand you're dealt, you play the hand, you're dealt, not the hand that somebody else has dealt. And if you're playing this race, that's what you deal with, sees the hay is logical in the spot. I don't know if I want four to 5. They're circling the wagons as they get close to post time for this race. And it looks like they're kind of headed toward the starting gate now. For this race. By the way, if you're continuing to play at Saratoga, going forward, they have the West Point stakes coming up next. It's another off the turf race, which will be after our betting with Bobby presented by Caesar's race book window. Unfortunately, that race off the turf now a mile on the main track and it's down to it was supposed to be a field of ten. It's now a field of three, only three of them going in the West Point over at Saratoga. All right, back to Gulfstream park. I think they are finally starting to make the move from the dirt to the synthetic track, which is what they're doing right now. Once again, they are not racing on turf, all during these summer months at Gulfstream park. And they are hoping to be back and on the turf. I would think for the beginning of their championship meet which traditionally starts the early part of December over the last several years, the championship meet has started with the claiming crown at Gulfstream park. That is a little bit of a change this year. The claiming crown will move over to Churchill downs this year and they like Gulfstream are hoping to be back on the turf by the time that that meat comes around. They're talking about their end of October through November meet at Churchill, Gulf Stream talking about more the championship meet starting in December as to when both of those tracks are hoping to see turf racing again. I don't want to speak for all of the betters because I don't think I ever speak for all of the betters. We can't wait for both Gulf Stream and Churchill downs. To get turf racing back. We want to turf racing back at those two major venues and hope everything goes well and everything safe and we get to see turf racing before the end of the year at both of those tracks. All right, let's get to Gulfstream. They have arrived at the starting gate for race number 6. Once again, an optional claiming starter allowance race, a mile and 70 yards on the synthetic track. We mentioned number 8 sees the hay is the solid favorite he's even money as they move into the starting gate the second choice right now is number two, no man left behind for safi Joseph junior and Edgar zayas coming off a defeat against condition claimers on the synthetic track in his most recent start actually probably taking a little bit of a step up in class today, so he lost against softer last time out. Now he's facing what seems like it would be a little bit better and you have to take three to ones. Don't love the odds on the favor. Don't love the odds in the second choice. This might be just a watch and joy type race for me. Part of betting with Bobby is knowing when to bet and knowing when to sit and wait. This is gonna be a sit and wait race for me. Pete I yellow has the 6 that Gulfstream. And they're off. Picture, perfect beginning. From the outside men on the moon was the way the quickest on the outside of him and cash expressed backing off between sees the hay, sonic kitten stays parked at the rail. He's now a joint third. Creative cloud is next up three wide goes donegan, saving ground, no man left behind, and cadet corps is last of all, and he's about 7 links off the speed of man on the moon. Leonard Reyes in the son of distorted humor, man on the moon, kicked to a three length lead. Cash expresses second the same margin from sees the hay third. Sonic kitten is at the rail races in fourth now, then dunnigan, no man left behind trying to secure a racing lane between horses, creative cloud is shuffled the second last in the trailer is still cadet core. 24 and three for the opening quarter speed. There's less than 5 furlongs to raise. Man on the moon struts his stuff on the top and he's tugging on a clear advantage. Cash expressed and there is pursuer second sees the Hayes third. Sonic kitten is at the rail forth, no man left behind us between horses and dunnigan is three wide at the inside cadet corps and now the trailer, creative cloud. That's the 8 of them as they round the forest turn at the three furlong point. Man on the moon, taking on now by cash express who's a closer second from third at seize the hay winding up from the back cadet corps dropping back sonic kitten, no man left behind just grinding home after three quarters and one 13 and two. There's a quarter of a mile left to go and cash expresses up to take the lead from men on the moon who tries to fight back second two and a half lengths back to the team of cadet corin sees the hay with an 8th of a mile to go. With the advantage now men on the moon in Bolden by the challenge enough to take the lead, but can get corps has getting here's cadet corps from last to first. To win. Man on the moon's second catch express third then sees the hay and no man left behind. Unofficially three 7 9 8 and the 6 that Gulfstream cadet corps flying down the center of the track up and by them all under Miguel Vasquez to get the win. Going to take our final break when we come back, we'll get to the prices at Saratoga and Gulfstream. This is betting with Bobby presented by Caesar's

"Plus and reside in a state for such activity as legal to open a wage ring account. If you have a gambling problem, call or text 805 two two 4700, Caesar's race book get bonuses right out of the gate. All right, we owe you prices from both Saratoga and Gulfstream park. So we're going to start up at the spa, where we actually have a couple of stake races during our window this afternoon. The first of which was race number 7, the $200,000 funny side where most of the betting public thought number 5 and yaml forensic was the logical one to beat. He was sent off at three to 5 at post time and he did not disappoint broke on top and went on to win by about four lengths on the yaml of forensic two year old dark bay or brown coat by spite town out of the length of your my every wish makes him a half brother to forensic fire. Also owned by mister amore stable and trained by Kelly breen irad Ortiz junior was aboard and he paid three 32 30 and two ten second four donegal surges, three 20 to ten. Third one acoustic avenue, two 20, fourth, 6th general banker, dollar exact a four 40. The 50 cent tried $3 55 cents. The dollar super $58 and 70 cents. Also oya prices over at Gulfstream park where we saw a pretty good-looking first time starter, get the job done there. It was race number four on the card. Safi Joseph junior sent out two first time starters and he got the win with number 7 looking for hope. She's a two year old chestnut Philly by practical joke out of the pleasantly perfect Bella kalina. I actually played a pretty nice golf course north of Orlando named Bella colina. Looking for hope owned by Pete vague so trained by safi Joseph junior, written to victory by The Kentucky Derby winning jockey this year, Sunny Leone, looking for hope paid $7, $4 and three 20 significantly less than rich striked it. Second was number 8 collectively 5 23 80 told you this looked like a first time starter for Joe catanese that probably could run a little bit. Third was number four stuck in Malibu at three 20, fourth number 9 free form. $2 exact at 37 40, the $2 one 22 80, the dollar super, $826 and 50 cents. Checking where we are at both Saratoga and Gulfstream park 20 minutes away from the 5th at Gulfstream. Ten minutes away, horses in the paddock they've been saddled waiting for the riders to come out for the upcoming 8th race at Saratoga. This is the yaddo handicap race that was supposed to be a mile and a 16th on the inner turf and now has been moved to the main track. So my question for this race is because I'm looking at the conditions. Does a mile and a 16th turf race move to a mile and an 8th or a mile on the main track now? And it doesn't say in the condition so unfortunately I don't have this for you. I'm trying to look and watch this as I as I tell you, but it is for Phillies and mayors that are New York breads and they're going for a purse of $200,000. Several scratches in here scratch numbers four, 5, 7, 8, 9, ten and 11. So we just have a field of 5 left going to post and right now the favorite is number 6, make mischief for Mark Cassie and Dylan Davis will update you on that as we go forward. As I mentioned, we are on the verge of a huge weekend races around the country. There are breeders cup win and you're in races at del mar. There's breeders cup win and you're in races at Saratoga and probably more importantly to some people. It's Travers day. Tomorrow at Saratoga. First of all, shout out to our producer Lee de la pina who week after week comes up with these great race calls it seems like from my childhood. And getting to hear voices like Marshall Cassidy in New York or like Phil George Jeff in Chicago from way back when and hearing some of these great horses that we saw when we were kids winning these big races, we all wanted her chief's crown winning the 85 edition of the Travers when you just heard 49er winning the 1988 edition of the traverse. And I'm sure Lee has got a few more up his sleeve. Speaking of the Travers, we're going to speak with trainer Kelly von hemer about 20 minutes from now. He's going to send out Iowa Derby champ ain't life grand in tomorrow's grade one $1.25 million traverse stakes. You don't see a lot of horses go from Prairie Meadows to the Travers at Saratoga, but you got to take a shot sometime. I like what they're doing. It doesn't mean I think he's going to win the race, but I definitely think he's better than other people think in the race. Now, maybe that's a hometown thing. Maybe it's the fact that I've gotten to see him up close. I usually am not that kind, you know, that kind of sentimentalist when it comes to these things. I'm going to say this though. And you're going to think I'm crazy. I'm going to say this. I think the Iowa Derby winner has a better chance of winning the Travers than The Kentucky Derby winner.

"And they're off. Awkward beginning for la Palma at the back. Quick beginning at wide for collectively who heads off for the yearly lead looking for hope has speed, farther out can set this is on the go. Christina's candy is kept close to the action, but she's down at the rail in fourth. Followed 5th by stuck in Malibu, and it's free form, two better than Loretta Joe and la Palma is last. They go to the half mile point and collectively and looking for hope or heads apart with the Flank of the top duo all racing in third, a bit green interaction is Christina's candy, who's dropped back to 5th now. In fact, she's not kicking on much at all. Up to fourth goes stuck in Malibu ahead of long shot free form and proving it touches Loretta Joe as they run to the top of the stretch. At the 5 16th collectively continues to knock heads with looking for hope. Their stride for stride, three better than an oncoming stuck in Malibu with a quarter of a mile left to go. Up front, looking for hope inside, outside collectively, neither giving an inch inside position and the lead to looking for hope with an 8th of a mile to go. And Jackie Sunny Leone now lasts looking for hope to kick on and kick on she does. The daughter of practical joke in the midst of an easy win in the end, looking for hope finishes up nicely and finishes up with something in reserve. She won by 6 in the end. Collectively held on for second ahead of stuck in Malibu third, free form for the fourth. Unofficially 7 8 four 9 in the fourth race at Gulfstream park, so the first time starter with the flashiest works runs to her works and runs off and hides from this field looking for hope for the team of safi Joseph junior and Sunny Leone Sunny Leone a winner on the Friday card at Gulfstream. I'm sure he is hoping to be a winner on the Saturday card at Saratoga tomorrow when he rides rich strike in the $1.25 million grade one Travers. We're going to take a break. "Of running lines that say that he's leading or pressing the pace. Now the pace is usually not as fast over there as it is here. So does that mean that he's going to be able to go with number two a bond who looks like a horse who wants to be on or near the lead and has been running here in distance races against graded stakes competition and running very well in the states. I don't know. Can outbox press a bond? Is outbacks faster than a bond early on? Or is that box not even close to as fast as a bond and a bond gets a clear lead. Right now, it seems like the handicappers think a bond is going to get the lead. He is your two to one favorite as the horses are about a minute away from post time for this Belmont gold cup. It actually says post time, but they are still kind of milling around on the main track, have not made their way over to the turf course yet. So this is a tough handicapping puzzle Anthony, of course, mentioned that he likes a long shot in here number 8 box and score. Listen, box and score. If he's right, he may have the longest shot in the field currently at 15 to one is this gelded son of lemon drop kid. Here's the problem with box and score. He has been running in allowance races, each of his last 8 starts and he's only one of those races. So I think Anthony is just banking on the fact that this is such a different ball game with this stretch out to two miles that the fact that he has been running an allowance races, not stakes, let alone graded stakes, the distance itself will be the equalizer for box and score. I think that's what he's hoping. Listen, he's not giving you a horse that's 6 to 5 in here and trying something kind of out of the blue. He's giving you the longest shot on the board or one of the longest shots. In fact, now up to the longest shot on the board in boxing score at 16 to one. So I personally don't like Fox and score on top. I am not playing this race. I'm rooting for Anthony to get the job done with a $34 win mutual. But it's hard for me to come up with this one. Even with the extra distance, I don't know. If they go, he looks like a horse that wants to come from a little bit off the pace. I would think he would want somebody to bother a bond at least a little bit in the early going and soften him up, not let him just cruise around the racetrack. Very intriguing field for this great two Belmont gold cup and this Belmont gold cup actually starts a two day double. It's the Belmont gold cup Belmont stakes double. So you have that option to get in if you're playing on any of the platforms, including the Caesars race book. If you have a good idea in this race, or if you have a good idea in the Belmont and you want to spread one way or the other, you can play that double right now. Intriguing field here a couple of new faces that we just don't know exactly what we're going to get from them. We don't know what they've been facing and what kind of trips they're going to get. Has loft been facing competition that's similar to this or even close to as good as this in Germany. Outbox will he get the right trip. He certainly looks like he's classy enough to be right there with this field and actually brings regular writer Holly Doyle in. We are going to find out, well, I was going to say we're going to find out soon, but it's a two mile race. We're going to find out about three minutes after the gates open. This is a long race and Johnny brielle is going to be on the mic for a long, long time. They are loading into the gate right now, loft a bond British royalty have gone in. Here is outbox. So Boleyn, strong tide have already gone into the race novo soul. Who has been trying grade two competition his last two starts didn't fare very well. I read Ortiz's back aboard today. "Good field of 6 going the post and it brings back last year's winning colors Victor. She's making her first start of 2022. Yeah, in the last couple of years and bell's the one in Kentucky, both the keenland and Churchill has been one heck of a rivalry. It will not continue unfortunately on Monday as bells the one is going to take a pass after running. Not too long ago, but maybe she needs a bit more time. I haven't heard any news from the pest and camp. I imagine that's a lot of times in racing new news is good news. So imagine that bribe will be rivalry will be renewed at some point. All that being said, Wisconsin who've in the intro one O 8 and change look. I think 6 furlongs at Churchill downs is her best ball game. She crushed in this race last year, she won by over three lengths. And even though the situation is a little bit different, this is our first race in a while, and she might need a race. I just think that Greg foley's mayor, written by Tyler gaff Leo and is just too good for this bunch. She has really, really, she's very versatile, but generally as she turns to tends to lie very close, get first run on them. I expect her to kick a few legs clear at the 8 pole and it would take a heck of an effort to mow her down and that effort will usually come from bells the one and she's not in your side. I think it's just too difficult to oppose the three horse constant in here. You know, better assured price in a long face. All right, I'm going to agree with everything you said. This is just far less of a field that she's facing than what she's normally runs against. Let's face it. There's no bells the one in here. There's no game, no CC, no Monday call. Frank's rockette, any of these other big names that would normally be in the same starting gate Wisconsin are not here in the winning colors. She's facing a bunch of up and comers. She's where they all want to be. I'm with you, bob. I find it tough to beat her. I don't want to take sub even money on her as far as a win bet, but I am Wisconsin fan. By the way, trainer Greg foley, who does a great job all the way around, actually excels maybe the most at these extended layoff returners. I think he's winning at about a 14 to 16% overall over the last few years. He's up to 17% with these layoff runners. So basically means when they return they're ready to fire their best shot and best shot is better than this field can handle bob and I both think she gets the job done. In the grade three winning colors race 8 on the Monday card at Churchill. Let's jump over to the lone star state. In fact, we're going to go to lone star park, where they've got a big day of racing on Monday afternoon, including the $300,000 Texas Derby for the three year olds going a mile and a 16th on their main track, field of 8 coming together here, bob, morning line favorite drawn out on the outside is the safi Joseph junior trainee AP's secret. Yeah, I know they put up $300,000 for the Texas Derby and I think they're team and their stakes coordinator did a good job. I've got a really interesting field of 8, I think that once this race is run, there'll be some interesting three year olds to follow from the screw. Definitely looks like a couple that have the potential to climb the ladder a little bit. So it's definitely a race worth watching. AP secret looks like a very talented horse, he seems especially with the short run into the first turn, although his amount of 16th as opposed to the next race we'll talk about, which is a mile. AP secret could get hung around the first turn. He's tends to do his best work going one turn. So the two turns, I think, might be as undoing. Although safi Joseph, of course, puts up incredible numbers and Edwin Gonzalez and other young writer to watch in this country. I love cover me cover me up in here. The 7 horse has been working really well. He's got good tactical speed. Giroud rise of Richard Baltus, he was a good second and a very quickly run allowance race at Churchill downs behind the horse that really impressed me in the Preakness of worst a completely under the radar even after the Preakness that Kenny mcpeak train creative minister a horse that will be interested to see if he turns up in the Belmont. But anyways, I think that covered me up got beat by a good horse and in his career covered me up said to face the likes of messier ironworks coordination American sanctuary. You won't see anything like that in here, including AP secret. And I think at three to one in the morning line, if he's anywhere close to that, he's a very good play. All right, so bob likes cover me up who I also think has a big chance. I didn't get past AP's secret, similar reasons to why you like cover me up. I just think he's been facing better competition, whether it's Moe donegal, early voting simplification, horses like that. He really isn't shaming himself against those better horses. And I think that that wood memorial this year came up as a really highly rated race. Who won the race, came back and ran a better than looked effort in The Kentucky Derby after trying to overcome a very tough trip in a very tough post. Of course, early voting who was second in the wood memorial came back and easily won the Preakness Skippy long stocking didn't run a bad race in the pretense. He's probably headed for the Belmont. None of those in here AP secrets my top pick in the Texas Derby race 11 Monday at lone star. The featured race on the Memorial Day card at lone star park is their 12th race, the grade three Steve Sexton mile. We've got a big field of ten how'd you see it? Yeah, I think it's a race that's got a lot of speed in it. And especially if a lector turns up, you know, which he very, it'll be interesting to see what he does. Because that definitely definitely changes the face of this race because he's a major pace factor in here. And what would be his two turn debut? From the 5 hole, the 8 horse shaz is interesting. He rates just off the pace. I think he's got a big shot. It just looks like it's going to be a really, really live pace. I'm sort of amazed at one of our old friends rated our superstars made 61 starts. Virtually all of them in the Midwest and this will be his first race Everett lone star park. Obviously he's done his best work at Oak Lawn. And then in recent years, at least he's left Oakland park for owner Danny Caldwell and who Prairie Meadows, he does not seem to perform as well at praying Meadows. I don't know if that means you just needs a break or he just doesn't like the track..

"Know? No, most definitely. Even in the summer, if you're coming from somewhere else in the summer in Florida, it's very hard to come into that heat. Sapphire have you noticed anything different with the trip to Churchill downs with white a barrio this time as opposed to last year as a two year old, he ran in the Kentucky jockey club. He ran a good third that day. It's actually the only time he was defeated in his career, but it was a very highly rated race with smile happy and classic causeway also in there. Obviously a lot more people this year. But his demeanor, that trip to Churchill compared to this time. He's a changed horse physically. That day, I thought he got a trip. It was a little keen early and then he got bottled inside and he didn't get up to like the 8 ball. It was never going to win at that point. But you stayed on steadily. From a number of perspective on that day, he ran his race. I mean, I think he ran like an 81 buyer and the race before when he had won the around 81 bar. So he ran his race as far as tracking everything is concerned. I don't think he's a problem. He's changed physically as a horse. So he's got taller. He's got a lot more leg to him and he's definitely changed physically from last year to know. And he continues to change for the better. Even from January to now he's changed. He's changing. And he's changing in front of our eyes, we're seeing him every day. So that means he's really changing. He looks so much stronger than a lot of the other three year olds. I mean, he looks like more like an older horse to me. When you watch all the horses galloping at 7 30, some of them are very diminutive and they're not filled out. He looks like he's got his body already. He looks really, really good. Yeah, he's not an overly big robust kind of horse, but as I said, he's keeps growing. He kind of more liking that kind of way. And he's holding his weight well and his coat looks good and that's what those are the kind of things you want for a horse coming into a race. You drew post 15 in the 20 horse field. Is that, is that what you were looking for? And if you kind of mapped out who's the speed inside of you, who's outside of you, where you'd like to be early on? Yeah, for the post, you kind of, you know, you could draw any kind of policy pause was very important. We were hoping to be between 5 and 18 at worst, and then you're better numbers were probably like 8 to 16. We got 15, we were very happy with it. There's a little speed outside of us, but most of them are inside and we're drawing out wide enough that gives Taylor options a big breaks important. He needs to break well. He has brought well in the past and once he could break well and utilize his position into the first turn. I think once he gets into a good rhythm, he'll have a very good chance. It's been a pretty good post position to historically 10% of the horses that have broke from post 15 have won the Derby 6 for 60 so far the last to do it was authentic and 2020. So there's some recent history there too. So that has to make you feel pretty good. Yeah, someone sent me a stat after. I think the three highest winners posts are post 5, post ten and 15. They're all like 10.6. I think 10.4 and 10%. So it's the third highest post percentage wise in the history of the Derby. So it definitely shows the post is good. Talking with safi Joseph junior, the trainer of Florida Derby winner, white a barrio in that Florida Derby. He beat charge it. He beat simplification. He's beaten modern goal before. Those are horses that are back in The Kentucky Derby with him. We've had people come on the show and say, oh, I love the way charge it looks. We had Sean burn on in the last segment or earlier in the show. And he said, I like simplification to win the Derby. We've had people talk about more donegal. You've beaten all of those forces. Size up the competition for me. And I know you're worried about all of them. But how good were those horses you were beating in Florida? We beat some book face and a holy bowl. People said that he didn't break roll and then we came back and we beat him in Florida everywhere. He said about a better trip than us. So we beat him for a square and then charge obviously in the Derby had a tough trip. He was kind of a trip to white barrier hot into the jockey club bottle up and then he got out too late. So you would think we'll move forward a lot. Madonna go we beat him in a holy ball where I don't think we were our best and he was coming, he was a favorite in that race. So I think he really had much excuse in IRAs. We beat these horses legit and now because we beat them before it doesn't mean we're going to beat them again. But it does give you confidence to see the form work out. I'm a big believer in who you beat. We've been some good horses I've come back to accomplish good things. How much confidence is Taylor gaff Leon give you? I mean, he's got the best attitude. He goes out there and tries every time. Does that help you relax a little bit? Almost definitely. In general, we write Tyler and the championship meet a lot we write Tyler. I read on Edgar's IRS. Those are our three main writers, so to have a main writer on our horse that we've had a lot of success with. Voting for a while, it gives you confidence. It feels like you're right into horse and he's obviously two for two on him and he's 6 times champion, a Churchill, not a last meet, so no one's ever beaten him. So as far as writer goes, we're in a good position. And he wants to win the Derby as much as we do. Safi, why do barrio was one of the final Derby horses to arrive here at Churchill downs at what goes into that that decision there'll be some trainers who immediately after their prior race will the Monday after flyer van the Louisville and try to be here for three or four weeks, whereas you got all the work done at your home base at Gulfstream park and basically just here for less than a week. I think shipping ways you didn't want to be in very early or you want to be in the very late. You don't want to be in between and shipping very late for us has worked out well in the past when we were shipped. So we kept it to that. A lot of other trends do they have more than a one horse in the race and Todd has horse coming out of the wood Florida Derby. So it makes more sense for him to get all the horses in one location because he can't be in all those locations. So I think that's a lot some of them will come here earlier and not in general, some of them are based here. So I think if you could stay in your home where your base and ship was late as possible, I think it's the best end of the ship a horse. You barely got your last work in. Getting late when you were that was a crazy day, huh? Yeah, that was getting nerve wracking. I was thinking, I should have shipped earlier. But thankfully, we didn't work Saturday and then I was.

"Way it sounded last Saturday at Gulfstream park in Helen L beach, Florida. PDL with the call of white a barrio. Winning the Florida Derby, running his record to four for 5 lifetime and the son of race day has been really, really good. His only defeat coming in the Kentucky jockey club stakes at Churchill last November and wondering if that might be a little bit of concern for way to barrio, has done great at Gulfstream, four for four, but over one outside of the sunshine state, expected to be joined by his trainer safi Joseph junior, however, just got a text from safi that he is not able to make it here this morning. So we'll go ahead and give him a pass. You know, he's big league now. I remember sappy Joseph junior when he was training in Barbados and nobody knew who safi Joseph junior was, except for my good friend, the pontiff of the pick for Jude feld, then he introduced me to him and now all of a sudden he's on the Derby trail and he's got one of the favorites and he's big time. So now just giving him a hard time. He is, he's tied up at the moment, won't be able to join us here this morning, but it's okay. 'cause it gives us a chance to talk about what we saw from white of barrio and what we saw from that race last week. And I started the show by kind of recapping the poll question from last week, where I asked you which of the three races the Arkansas Derby, the Florida Derby or the Jim beam stakes appeared to be the deepest field. And it was a runaway. So many of you said it was the Florida Derby. And if that's the case, does that mean that the winner of the Florida Derby way to barrio? Since he beat the deepest field, is now the horse to beat in The Kentucky Derby. Do we look at it that way? I don't think you can. But you could make that case. He won what many of you, at least last weekend, thought was the deepest prep race. He won it, going away. Good effort too in that race. Let's not overlook what happened with charge it. Didn't have the best beginnings. Got himself into position under Louis syes, who, look, I mean, you're going to put a jockey on a horse now. There are some great ones out there. Johnny V, Joel. Mike Smith. Erotic Ortiz, Jose or there are some fantastic jockeys out there. But Louis zayas as good as it gets. And he got that horse into a great position, the horse ran big. To punch his ticket to The Kentucky Derby if they do decide to go that direction. But why the barrio? He looks like the real deal. Now, people will knock him because of the fact that he has only won at Gulfstream park. But I think he's matured. I think sappy has him where he wants him to be. He'll be making his third start of 2022. Which, you know, in a horse's form cycle, we hear that all the time in handicapping, the third start is typically one of their better starts, maybe their best start, he'll have him ready to peak. Four weeks from today on Derby day. And as I told you, many times we talked about this last week, the Florida Derby has produced more Kentucky Derby winners than any prep race in the history of The Kentucky Derby. And the longest drought that we have seen from the Florida Derby in terms of producing a Kentucky Derby winner. Has been 5 years. Think about that. And how consistent that race has actually been. The longest drought in the Florida Derby. Has been 5 years. If you go back to the 1990s. 2017 was the last horse to come out of the Florida Derby and win The Kentucky Derby, always dreaming that was 5 years ago. You had 5 years from big Brown in 2008 to orb in 2013, you had 5 years from monarchos in 2001 to barbaro in 2006. So if you go back to 2001 21 years of history, the longest gap has been 5 years. We are due for a horse to come from. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean it's the horse that wins. The Florida Derby, but that has been the case and all the scenarios I just mentioned. It could be a horse, it could be a horse that was second could be a horse that was third. It could be simplification. He's going to the Derby. He didn't have the best of trips in the Florida Derby. Maybe simplification is the horse. You want to go back even further. Thunder gulch in 1995 to monarchos in 2001, that's a 6 year gap. You don't see it often in the Florida Derby. Makes you think this is the year. Poll question today. I asked you if you could only watch one of the three Derby prep races. Coming up this afternoon. The wood memorial, the bluegrass takes of the Santa Anita Derby, which one are you going to choose? You can only watch one. It's the bluegrass stakes it's a runaway winner right now. 52% of the vote saying it's the bluegrass stakes. Now 53%, 27% for the Santa Anita Derby, 20% for the wood memorial. And speaking of the San Anita Derby. You're going to hear from Joe Moran, who is the racing man drew in my racehorse, the California racing manager. Forbidden kingdom, messier, in a fantastic showdown. Later today, in Arcadia, California. And forbidden kingdom, a horse that a lot of people have very high on their list. They have him circled..

"That he wasn't going to get that kind of rosy trip again, but let's take a listen back to Pete's call of the $1 million grade one Florida Derby. And there are Florida Derby. Excellent beginning for classic causeway from down toward the inside. Simplification was way away in good shape today and he's up to challenge from second. Papa cap gets away in third wider on the first turn as white of barrio and race favorite charger drops in mid flight. He's about four lengths behind that it's own captain racing ahead of Clapton and king of truth. Cajun's magic is third last steal sunshine is second last and 11th and last is strike hard as they chase the Tampa Bay Derby winner classic causeway to the backstroke run. Classic causeway relaxed up front he leads to half the leg. Simplification will not let him get four second three wide popping cap third. We say this has charge at fourth at the rail. He's racing together with the great white of Oreo, a gap of another two to Clapton who's outside of old captain, and it's a length and a half to Cajun's magic. King of truth and steel sunshine race together about ten lengths off the pace and still at the back is strike hard. The opening quarter was 23 and three the half mile was 47 and one half a mile ago in the 2022 kerlin Florida Derby. We have a new leader simplification is powered past classic causeway who backpedals papa kath looms a threat on the outside. What a Mario takes third up to fourth is charging, dropping back his classic causeway then clapped in an oak captain as they run to the top of the stretch up front papa cap doing battle with simplification. Three wide white of Oreo charges getting ready to launch his Vinny's three legs off the lead but gaining ground with a quarter of a mile left to go. Now off the top of the stretch simplification bracing for an oncoming white of orio papa cap is very game between horses and charge it swings into action on the far outside. There's an 8th of a mile to go. White arborio takes over from simplification, charge it with the late say down the center 16th to run white of Oreo almost home. Charge it ships ground light of Oreo still there and white a barrio wins the Florida Derby for sappy Joseph junior from charging in second and simplification third papa cap ran fourth. The time for the race a minute 50 and three. So why do barrio victorious here? His fourth win from just 5 starts for trainer safi Joseph junior and.

"Also going to talk Arkansas Derby with trainer Rudolf preset, who will be with me at 9 40 as he sends out the undefeated we the people. In that race later today, we the people making his stakes debut in their hoping that it will be an impressive one. He certainly has talent, now he has to prove he can do it at a higher level. Rudolf also has yugiri in the fantasy stakes. And great escape and black adder. In the Jeff ruby's takes at turfway, the latter, another transfer from the barnum Bob Baffert. In Florida simplification, while he figures to take a big piece of the action down there. He's going to be among the favorites, the fountain of youth winter is fine to two on the morning line. That is a very deep and highly contentious renewal. Of the Florida Derby. He and the other contenders are going to be relieved to know that there will not be apocalypse sighting in that race today. So things do have a chance to play out cleanly. Classic causeway white of barrio and the up and coming charge it from the barn of 6 time Florida Derby winter Todd pletcher all figure to give simplification a run for his money later today. That is, that's not a give me for simplification. Like I say, that's a deep that's a contentious and a talented group of three year olds in that Florida Derby. Tammy Bobo is the owner of simplification, and you're going to hear her thoughts when she joins me coming up at 9 eastern this morning. And how about this a heartfelt congratulations to my good friend safi Joseph junior? His father, whom they call big saf. And their entire team on their first championship meet training title. "But if you're buying horses in that range, in the mid to lower end kind of thing, you've got to find that the athlete instead of the page. Because like you said, you'll never be able to buy the fancy pedigrees. And if you do, if you can't afford one of those, usually they've got one leg pointing towards Barbados already. It's a tough racket. Yeah, and nobody's right a 100% of the time in this game. So when you go to a sale, you're looking for the athlete. You think you have them. It doesn't always pan out when you get them to the racetrack, right? No, of course not. This is the only game that you're probably right. What, 15 to 20% of the time and considered a genius. That's a good percentage, right? How important are percentages for a trainer today? Well, I think in America is huge. For everyone that everyone handicappers and even the public percentage yet to have a good percentage, you have to, it's very important. People that look up percentage and they don't even care if you claim a horse for 20,000 and drop them at 62 50 and your percentage is high. They'll notice that more than if you actually claim the horse or say 62 50 and you run it in a second and a third in a state percentages. I think that's key in America to get attention. You know, there's no question about it. That's the first place people look when they go to hire a trainer. They go to the trainer standings and the first 5 or 6 guys are who they go to. Everybody else is chopped liver even if you're doing a great job with a small stable people don't pay attention. Visiting with trainer safi Joseph here on trainer talk presented by phasic tipton on the horse racing radio network coming to you from barn 7. At Gulfstream park, which is where you can find safi Joseph junior and his father, safi Joseph senior and they are a great partnership and they're really going well right now here at Gulfstream park, safi trained more than 70 winners here in the United States now. We mentioned the other winners that you had in Barbados. Tell me about your first horse that you ever got involved with when you first started training. Well, the first first we ever got involved was a horse named wacom but she was a Philly. I should be before I took out my license. I was working together this guy was trying to hate and Nichols. I was working under him. And she was actually a good Philly. She did what she did for us too. Yes, she earned a good amount of money, too. She won a couple of locally bred races going to mile and a quarter. And she won it twice to tanglewood. It's on goal company. When you go to your website, you have your bio listed there, and you have a quote in your bio. And I'm going to read it to you. It says, it's not what you do, but how you do it. What's that mean? I think anything you do in life is where do you put into it? You know what I mean? If you put what do you put into it, is where you're going to get out to get out of it. If you put a lot into it and you're constructive thinking and you put your heart and do it constructively, you're going to get the results. So what's the key to being a successful trainer then? The key is having good.

"For the naira bets best bet. It is is the naira beds best bet. Take it away, buddy. It's the 9th race at Santa Anita on Saturday the sweet life handicap $100,000 grade three event. And I'm really into Graham motions or rika. I thought last time out versus boys ran well in New York, I thought they figured it out. The horse wants a turf sprint. I think it's gonna be really, really competitive here. Great sign that won Hernandez does not go to Northern California to run in the el Camino real for a pricey horse that he had an opportunity to. I don't think this is an amazing field. I think arika is in a really good shape to score to decent price. All right, so nice price there and I like your comment. It's not an amazing field. I think we can all agree with that. It's definitely not an amazing field for a grade three effort, the suite life at Santa Anita. I'm going to go to Tampa Bay downs and race number 8 the sun coast. No, I'm not going to put number two nest as my best bet of the weekend. My best bet is going to be exact as in the race because I'm going to try to beat the second and third choices on the morning line. I don't love number three. A little love and luck who's one dirt start was just fair at best. I don't love number 7 hot penny who's coming off a fourth place finish in the gas barilla. I thought both of the Phillies who were coming off maiden scores in their debuts ran very well and have every right to be even better second time out. Those are number 6 peaceful surprise at ten to one. Number 8 princess elin at 12 to one. I don't know if they're good enough to beat nest yet, but I think they're definitely good enough to be second at decent prices. So I am going to hammer a couple of exact in the suncoast two 6 and two 8 hoping to get a good mutual if one of those bigger prices runs under the big favorite nest in the sun coast stakes. All right, Dave, all 12 races in the books seems like we're done for the weekend, but we're not done for the weekend. As there's another huge addition of the equine form presented by twin spires coming up tomorrow morning. And to be honest, I don't know how Mike Pence is gonna fit all of this in on tomorrow's show 8 to 11 a.m. Eastern Time. First of all, two time eclipse award winning trainer Brad Cox takes your phone calls in this week's edition of you be the host, champion apprentice jockey, Jessica pyfer looks back on her award winning season. "Nyra betts best bet. Is the Nairobi's best bet. Take it away, my friend. You talked about Dick's price odds in one of the races at Gulfstream, park. I would have liked fixed price odds at fair grounds in the tenth race. I really think abscond fits this field tremendously well. I think dropping down in class, I think the style fits. And I think Janelle monae just the intrigue factor is going to get bet really, really hard. I think abscond at an okay price against horses that she very well may be better than it is excellent value. All right, abscond for Dave and the Marie crans memorial race ten on the card tomorrow at fairgrounds. I'm going to go to that fixed price odds hope that I was talking about tomorrow at Gulfstream park in race number for the sunshine turf. They can bet all they want on shamrock. I want no part of them tomorrow, and if number 6 max KO is anywhere close to 7 to two, I'm a running toward the window, irad Ortiz is certainly a nice icing on the cake for the safi Joseph junior trainee who loves it at Gulfstream park. I think as a pace advantage, over shamrock, and some of the other ones in the field. And to be honest, I just think he's going to win. Max KO for me, 7 to two on the morning line. My best bet tomorrow on the card at Gulfstream park. That's going to wrap it up today on the weekend stakes preview presented by nyra betts reminder, big addition of the equine form presented by twin spires tomorrow morning here on the network, 8 to 11 a.m. Eastern Time. Trainers Al stall junior in Dallas Stuart preview their runners and Saturday stakes at fairgrounds. Briss net and twin spires handicapper James Scully joins Mike pennant and shares his thoughts on the Saturday stakes action. Of course, another edition of you be the host and tomorrow's guest is trainer Dale Roman's oh my goodness. That is going to be an epic addition of U B the host because he is not afraid to tell you what's on his mind. So get your questions ready. The old Romans answers.

"Like this whole weekend I mean it's open and weekend so everyone just wanted to run and their full fields and their competitors feels. Yeah, those are tough races. When you think about the claiming crown and I always refer to it and we have for years, the breeders cup for the blue collar working horses of the sport. What does it mean for the connections of these horses to compete for this kind of money? I mean, I think people really look forward to it has become a daily, especially reclaim a lot of horses and we have a lot of owners that look forward to it. They're always trying to find that came in from horses as a whole person dream. And their aspect is their burrito scope for the strength for the payment owners and the horses. It's been a great day. It successfully produces good handle and it produces competitive breezes. You look at a racist today. It's not easy to make these single horses in any of these races today. You touched earlier, safiya about the team. And how important it is for the team to work together and develop together and grow in the way that you've been able to do it in the past few years. And it's been a big part of your success. Edgar zayas is part of your team. You've brought him into the fold. He has become kind of your John Velazquez, if you will, if you were Todd pletcher, he's been your go to guy. Why is he such a good fit? Let me write a great year round where we run most of our horses. So he comes over basically every weekend. He works a lot of our horses for us. So he has a feeling we get into a good rhythm and it's been working on hopefully he can keep continuing and we're not going to fix what's not broken. So long may continue fingers crossed. Yeah, visiting with trainer safi Joseph junior here on the horse racing radio network, looking ahead to the rest of the championship meet staff. I know you said the numbers are big. They certainly are today. You're going to make a run at that leading trainer title, at least you hope you are. Tell me about some of the horses that folks can look forward to from the barn that could have an impact later in the meat. We run a nice two year old tomorrow one first. I'm always named as AP secret. Kind of the trends like he's our best to really one first time out more in work like fashion, hope and tomorrow, a human he can make that jump forward and of course in the next level. And as you're thinking, as you're thinking of big races of tomorrow's going to be his judgment call to see if you can step it up a notch. That's one thing that's so cool about this championship meet is you start to find out if you belong. If you're a contender or a pretender looking ahead to next year's classics. No, most definitely. All these allowance racism if you win any of these allowance racism the next step basically you're going to stick So I'm going to some of the ones where you just come up just as some of the other prep. So if you're fortunate enough to win one of them, you're definitely going to give a horse and tray going long. I'm looking at those entries tomorrow 13 horses, entered on the program tomorrow. You certainly do have the numbers, my friend. Hopefully we can pick up some weathers, get some momentum. I think if we could keep pretty close to thoughts of December last year, he got away from us in December. Because they're pretty close, we're going to give them a rental money. But overall, we just happy to be in this position. Thankful to have the arms we do. And we just want to win every race that we run. Obviously, we lose a lot more than we ran, but we just keep moving forward. I try to do our best and keep winning. Is dad here helping you now or is he back home in Barbados? No, he's there. I'm at palmetto this morning. All right. Well, safi Joseph junior, his dad is a major part of that team and his success and staff. I wish you guys all the best this upcoming me. Good luck with the claiming crown today and go in some races, my friend. Thank you very much, Mike. We're going to try. All right. They call him Baba back home in Barbados and Baba is going to be looking to see if he can dethrone one of the greatest of all time and Todd Fletcher. We'll see how this plays out. You heard him say, just going to try and keep Todd close into here in December and try to let him get too far away and have to play catch up interesting the way that trainers look at those things. Isn't it really interesting? And Dale Romans pointed out what we were having that conversation a couple of weeks ago. We were talking about safi. He said, you know, for him, the money titles and the big races have become more important. Dale said, when he was a young trainer, he always focused on the training titles. And he always, they meant they still mean a lot to them. But it was a goal of his early on. It's not so much a goal anymore, trying to be leading trainer. But winning the big races in the big money events has become a goal. And I think that just comes with experience..

"I told you that safi Joseph junior is going to be part of the show in the second hour of the program. And in safi's case, not only are we going to talk about his horses coming up in the claiming crowd today. But we're going to talk about trying to topple Hall of Fame trainer Todd pletcher, who is in search of a 19th championship meet trainer title. That's just incredible. He has dominated that championship meet. And that notion that safi Joseph junior could take down one of the greatest trainers of all time. On his home turf, so to speak. Might sound like blasphemy to many of you. You remember a couple of weeks ago during our I asked, they answer segment with Dell Romans and Tim wilkin. We debated whether or not it's realistic to think that sappy Joseph junior could be the leading trainer this meet. Even safi recognizes that it's a tall order. But he didn't say he was just going to hand Todd the trophy either. When asked about it he was quoted as saying the championship meet is Todd's meat. Last year we were pretty close, but we didn't have as many horses as we have this year. I think we can give him a run for his money. I love that last line. The confidence of safi Joseph junior, I think we can give him a run for his money. And when we did debate that during I asked the answer, Dale said, you know, there's a chance that he could win more races than Todd. But Todd's going to walk away with the leading money title. Because Todd's going to win the right races. Todd's going to win the big races. So the title will walk away with more money, but sappy can walk away with the leading trainer title. So we'll see if that's possible. I'll talk to SAP about that coming up in the second hour of the program. Safiya remember was 8 wins behind Todd, at last year's championship meet. There are 6 two year old Phillies. Entered into the grade one starlet at Los alamitos later today. Half of those are trained by Bob Baffert. Including the 9 to 5 morning line favorite grace Adler, who looks redeemed herself following that very disappointing and really somewhat head scratching performance in the grade one chandelier last time out and when she finished, just a lackluster 5th as the heavy favorite. And historically speaking, when Bob Baffert has a Philly in the chandelier, that is not good news for the rest of the competition. Bob has settled the winner of that race on 7 occasions. Including each of the last four runnings, and a win today will equal the mark of his good friend dewayne Lucas at the top of the list with 8 starlet victories. So some things on the line historically, for bob and for the competition in that grade one chandelier, post time for today's renewal is three 58 Pacific 6 58 eastern. Speaking of grade one events the cigar milet aqueduct today, that's the featured event on a stellar Saturday program. It's a ten race card. It includes four greatest stakes that go for one for the older Phillies and mares, the remson for the two year old boys, which will play into The Kentucky Derby picture. In case you're wondering, 154 days, 9 hours, 35 minutes and just 44 seconds until the run for the roses on May 7th, 2022. You also have the demoiselle for the two year old Phillies and then that cigar mile for the older males. And again, I'll talk with Dave grin coming up at 8 15 eastern about those races and the developments involving Bob Baffert which came out overnight and the testing of Adina spirit. That's cigar mile. You know, one thing about this cigar mile is traditionally the perfect spot late in the season following the breeders cup for horses who competed in the championship races to return with hopes of putting an exclamation point on their yearlong campaigns. Maybe even on a career, in some cases, this year is no exception. Todd Fletcher is going to send out following C, who comes out of that game third place effort in the breeders cup sprint, and Richard Baltus saddles ginobili, runner up in the breeders cup dirt mile behind the pletcher trained life is good. There have always been two schools of thought when deciding whether to play or play against those horses coming out of big efforts in the breeders cup when they return to action four weeks later. One side, those who are somewhat skeptical, skeptical of betting on those horses, is going to take the approach that horses running in the breeders cup were being trained to peak on that day. And given their best effort, give their best effort on that particular day. On breeders cup day. If they ran well, then it was mission accomplished. They peaked. They ran their big race on breeders cup day. Much like ginobili and following C and it might be a very difficult assignment to put forth another top effort again four weeks later, after peaking at the breeders cup. Plus, by the way, the rivals who did not compete in the breeders cup have a freshness edge. Those who prefer to bet on horses coming from the breeders cup that ran huge. We'll look at it with more rose colored glasses and they'll say, well, they held their own against the best competition in the breeders cup. They have.

"Mean, I think that, you know, he's deserves to be on the list, which Dale hates, but you know he's he's a guy that, you know, a lot of people really don't know that much about. He's only been riding here in the U.S. on a regular basis since 15. And, you know, he's he's he's become a go to writer and out west. He's got a bunch of writing titles that delmar, but he's not in the household name if you will. Category like maybe Joelle and my old friend, I read, and Jose Ortiz, Louis Sia's, but, you know, yeah, I think that if you're going to have to have these polls, which Dale hates, I guess they did get it right. All right, final topic for today. Again, you can listen to I asked, they answer every single weekend here, ten 30 eastern is when we kick it off on the equine forum. If you miss them, head back to our website and check out the podcast of each of these segments. They have been really informative. All right, final segment and it involves Gulfstream's championship meet, which begins on Friday. Trainer safi Joseph junior comes into the meat with a ton of momentum having just captured the fall meat title and the spring summer meat title before that. Safi finished 8 wins behind Hall of Famer Todd pletcher at last year's championship meet, of course, pletcher recorded his 18th title for the championship meet last year. He's been unstoppable. Joseph was quoted in an article this week, guys, is saying the championship meet is Todd's meat. Last year we were pretty close, but we didn't have as many horses as we have this year. I think we can give him a run for his money. What are the chances safi Joseph junior walks away with the championship meat training title this year? He's got a solid chance he wins a lot of races, but I will say one thing, Todd pledge to walk away with the money title. So it'll be about show me the money. I don't think he was concerned about the number of wins anymore. So he just went in the big ones and he went all the big ones down there. He's powerhouse getting stronger all the time. Yeah, I mean, Todd is he's mister Gulfstream, just like he's mister Saratoga with, you know, he wins all those meat titles. It was almost shocking to some people a couple years ago when she had Brown started is running back Tod off. Can saffy Joseph do it? Yeah, why not? I mean, he had he actually started more horses than Todd during last year's winter meat. But, you know, it's also like I don't want to say like in this to the JVs trying to take on the varsity. And I'm not saying that safiya's a JV trainer, but the analogy is that he's got to step it up a little bit and he's got more horses, but Todd's got a bunch of horses and Todd's quality is usually always been more than SAP. But, you know, safiya's a good horseman and he's going to get his shera wins. Does he have enough in his barn to knock off Todd? I don't know about that. But if I was going to do a poll on this, I think I put Todd on top. What about you, Dale? Yeah, I'll put him on top anyway, but he's way on top of me. Sophie could win the title for winning the most races, but Todd went to title for winning the races. You know, that's an interesting point because so often there's press releases that are sent out after every meat at racetracks and they say, oh, so and so was the leading trainer. So and so was the leading owner. So it was the leading jockey. What do trainers covet more? Is it that leading trainer title by number of wins or would they much rather finish second or third in the standings and walk away with more money? Well, I'd speak for myself. I think earlier in my career training titles were very important. They got less and less important. And I'm sure same with Todd and more important about trying to win the right races and develop the right horses and you start thinking about your legacy a little more. And I think that more be remembered more for big races in multiple races. But isn't it more important though to also put money in your pocket too? That's the big races. Show me the money. Well, we'll see how it plays out again. That championship meet kicking off on Friday at pletcher safi Joseph, both going to be loaded and coming down there with the best horses. As will Dale Romans Dale looking forward to your horses strutting their stuff at Gulfstream, my friend. Yeah, we're gonna have a good winner. Think about a great fall and some good two year olds coming on to be three when I'm just gonna be a fun winter. All right, we'll see if gael Romans can dethrone Todd Fletcher. What do you think? I don't think so, not a number of ways. So I just wanted to be beaten his first time he ever won a race where he beat me. I seem to beat me from the very beginning. His first race I ran second. Maybe this will be the winter of Romans. Who knows? I like that. The winter of Romans. Well, Dan, we'll talk to you next week. Timmy will talk to you next week. Appreciate the time guys. I ask the answer, we'll do it all over again. Ten 30 Eastern Time next Saturday, fun stuff..
