Violence in Resistance

"Cities and towns across the country. Protests have broken out telling the police killings of George, Floyd. We honor Taylor Tony mcdade others while many of these protests were peaceful. Others have turned violent with buildings, being destroyed or looted in clashes, breaking out between the police and protesters. In light of these events, we wanted to bring you an episode from our archives to better understand some of the history behind the black lives matter protests why protests sometimes turned violent how governments often respond and what the role of social media is all of this? This episode was originally recorded with Avi Green in two thousand seventeen, and we're bringing it you a bit earlier this week. Our usual schedule given this weekend's offense. Hi I'm Miranda Kelly, and this is the scholars strategy network Snow Jargon. Each week. We discussed in American policy problem with one of the nation's top researchers without jargon. In this archive episode Avi spoke with Professor Ashley Howard She's an assistant professor of African American history at the University of Iowa shears their conversation. Professor Howard. Thanks for coming on new jargon. Thank you for having me. Why did these protests happen? Well there's no one easy answer, but if I were to give an umbrella term to why they happen is that people feel that they are not receiving equal treatment under the law or in society, and they feel that all of the established means getting equal treatment have failed them. You mean in a way. They're sort of fed up and sick and tired, absolutely fed up in sick and tired I think this is something that people often forget when we think about not only the uprisings or the violent protests that happened in the past two or three years, but also looking historically that there are lots of preceding events that occur beforehand there. There were marches there protester letters of indignation. There were speeches given fun of City Councils, and for whatever reason those cries. Those grievances were gone unheeded unheard, and because of that people take to the streets, and it gets attention, and it's a very loud cry for help and for acknowledged professor. How can you just tell me about one protests from beginning to end? I would love so I'd like to start with kind of the protests. That's been nearest and dearest to my heart. It's the one that I've been researching the longest, and it also takes place in my hometown of Omaha. So in one, thousand, nine, hundred, sixty, six fourth of July weekend. There are a group of young people. In a parking lot of the Safeway Grocery store on North Twenty four straight. And this kind of an area where people congregate and it was. Evening. GOOP young people were setting off firefighters or firecrackers. A police officer comes. They begin to throw firecrackers at this police vehicle, the police kind of get scared and equipped takeoff they come back and forth, and this kind of sets it off people. See Police as indicative at this time of the state of unfair treatment, and oftentimes these police, public attractions are the catalysts for these uprisings, so over the course of three days young people go up and down North Twenty Fourth Street in the black enclave, and they set small fires. They break windows. They steal goods out of these stores, and the very much engaged in property, violence as protests, but meanwhile has this is going on. You have the mayor of the city Av Sorenson actually meeting with these youth activists listen to their grievances listening to what? What they feel is going on the community. And why love, starting off with Omaha is because Omaha had a long history, a civil rights activism prior to the nineteen sixty six engagement, and what was so notable is at the end double ACP, an urban league had been begging the state for years to open up an unemployment office on North, Twenty Fourth Street, and for years that desire for a building was met. You know was ignored, and by the end of the week of those three days of uprisings North Omaha got their unemployment office. While you know it's funny because I think the words are so charged when we think about uprisings or protests that end in violence that involves some aspect of violence on TV you hear about riots. Can you tell me a little bit about why you call them violent uprisings, and what you think of some of those other words? I mean in some ways. I think riot is pejorative, because it seems that when people use that term, it's divorced from the context in which people are participating at it seems as it's just want violence as a social and Beran, and not actually rooted in issues, and you don't violence approach as protests had along and storied history in the world, so if you think of Labor bread riots. In France in England. Through the green corn rebellion in the United States hey, mark an uprising working class people people without a lot of political capital engage in violent protests as a way to make their voices heard, and it seems that really in the nineteen sixties when blacks began to use this as a primary tactic in their. Repertoire of protest actions that really begins to be demonized in not lauded as you know the underclass kind of going up against those in power and so for me, I like to use rebellion or uprising, because I see these actions on a political. Continue up that you have protests, you have marches, you have demonstrations and at one end of that spectrum. Is this violent protests? It's not divorce from the other things that have come before, but it's the next step when those issues are continually ignore it. Well. It's interesting to think about the more recent violent protests in the context of that long longer history of protests and the longer history of civil rights and racial relations in the in the states as a white person and also somebody who's gone through sort of the standard His. You know I'm not a student history just like history and high school and all that sort of thing. Boy. Is there a difference in the way that we hear about the non violent protests. Martin Luther King. Gandhi all that sort of thing, and and then the way that Events like watts are described and certainly the way that the media today traits events like Ferguson. And there's a difference between how they were portrayed in the moment, and how they're remembered so watts south central l., A. Nineteen, sixty five. This is one of the first when the earliest large uprisings, and so there is the infamous McCone commission that came out where Ronald Reagan is referring to these folks as mad dogs and lawbreakers, and so even though they're pathologising to actions of the people who are engaging in this type of protests they. They. Still understand that it's rooted in politics. The kerner commission, which came out in nineteen, sixty eight, which looked at that. What's been called the long hot summer of nineteen, sixty seven, and that and that was summer with a whole bunch of protests and uprising. Something about that's correct. That was the deadliest summer and the one with the most amount so in the aggregate, the most amount of in terms of scale and scope the largest. Amount of uprisings, this is when you're and Detroit. Both happened and the Kerner Commission looked at this, and said that this is actually rooted in the fundamental desire to have full inclusion American Society and that it's this notion that had as Robert, focus and a scholar who wrote about this in the contemporary moment, said it's not a attempt to overrun America but to alert America. That's something is very wrong and I think when we look at it today, you know it seems. A bit as an anomaly, I at the time Ferguson has time of Baltimore. There was a black president. I think many of us had kind of been lulled into this false sense of security of a a sort of colorblind society. That racism was over. No longer are people using the end where no longer is. The clan burning crosses on people, Yar People's yards. It's over, but in many ways is racism became more systematic or structural, more institutional and hidden, and so these issues still exists is that people don't realize that they're

We'll have a safety yeah no problem you guys do the same also WanNa go out to coal real fast on line one and did you have accomplished implant called my my dad had palm pilot playing with the kid and then all the sudden it was like it just disappeared and then we had a blackberry and then I was like Oh. This is so cool I missed blackberries disappeared yeah. It was like all right well now. We all have iphones. Oh Yeah I miss. BBN What do you think about the iphone so all three of us have the IPHONE. That still has the home button and I'm very reluctant yeah. I don't like change to the ten that has just the screen like I don't. I don't WanNa do that. I need the home button. Oh how on that phone you know like how do I get home. I need buttons. I I'm not about this life without buttons. I had a I got like as a as a gift today a wine bottle opener. Neither like I'm GONNA big wine drinker but it seemed like a thing to have because you need to put things registry so I got a wine bottle opener and I didn't no at the time that it was but in lists right so you basically put it on it takes off the cork and then like we'll go in the opposite direction and pushback backout. There's no but in to like say take it off and then the but intellect reverse to put it knows knows sounds great had that one on my house okay a tube right yeah yeah and then you just put it on the thing because nobody's though is your those are the two that has a button button is key and may have a button. I don't know the button is key because the first time that I use did it went up and it didn't come back down and I'm looking and unlike I need to find a button somewhere and then it's like you charge a USB which is like everything thing you charge now with a USB which is weird you charge your car with a USB guess so it has like a reset little tiny but in that you need like a pin to push down for it to like and it didn't work had that up going and like getting another one and I've only used it once because I have ptsd like. I'm afraid that I'm going to break it. Every time that I I use. It worked at the one time that I use it but but I can't I need buttons enough this button list life. Sorry we can go to Col- now as as distracting everybody all right. Let's go to Col- the on line one and I mainly want to do this. I don't even really I think it's topics nice today but this is one of our most loyal colours. Call the palm pilot with a palm pilot. I was born in Nineteen ninety-five with a palm pilot nineteen ninety-five baby. I'm super young compared to you billy. I know such you have such a voice that has so much age and wisdom in it appreciate that wise words now get. I WanNa talk to you about my beard. Now goes. I WanNa talk to you guys about how to take care of your beer correctly. I walk around too much today. I see uncapped unclean beards and I'm sticking at Ban. I'm thinking so first thing I'd do is you got a nice shower. Get Nice clean shower a clean your beard man get deep in your beard by specific beard oil beard beard everything just so you can take care of your beard beard shampoo you. I was just going to ask you that that cold because I'm facially follicly-challenged so I don't have like a same so I was wondering how people with beards wash their bielecki. Just use regular Chiampou or do you just use like the space soap like what you do but you by specific beard shampoo I do it. Actually actually is head and shoulders had a shutout the head and shoulders holders they actually Shampoo for coarse hair. You WanNA actually use soap it in very very nicely with and you actually ally why you don't WanNa really do it that hard but you WanNa make sure you get right and the beard yeah and do you like a pattern like I've seen before like with regular face face wash with beards whereas I gotta rubbing clockwise counterclockwise and I kind of wonder what the point of that is so there's something special that you need to do with your beard shampoo I do I do I lived up my Chin because of the of my beers long and I get right underneath the chin. I do all the way up and down and put it back down up and down and I and and I do and then you cheat cheat cheat cheat cheat up and down up and down real and what do you do about next year. Do you trim neck hair so that is just a beard. It seems like you have a longer beard so I feel like maybe you let the neck hair grow to see br. I go to my Barbara and Barbara's all all that for me. I don't trust another person besides for my barber. Now my barber is I think one of my Barbara's since I was thirteen years myself Russia's just myself. I'll show us out my own hand. I can't trust my own hands. I can't do it broke. Can't I didn't I didn't know Cole was such Bro. Have you've been holding out these bribes from us. Is this the same coal it calls every day. Hello a little bit here and there I'm slowly and slowly pulling back. The young man peeled EFFEC- Pune appealing it back. You're so deep so many layers to Cole. I have a question because I I do have a beard and I don't. I honestly just use my normal shampoo on it. I don't like go crazy. I'll I'll take your advice and look for head and shoulders beard shampoo but my question his for trimming a beard you said yours long but maybe on the side you trim it. What's the perfect length your hair dark? Because I feel like your hair's darker. You can go shorter and it still looks fuller whereas my hair. It's like lighter so like I tend to sometimes wanNA leave it because when I go like a one like like how often do you trim your beard because you your facial hair is interesting in that. It's Li- it's really uncapped right now like don't well no but it always looks the same like to the point where we're like. You wonder if your your beard is like eyebrows situation shrimp just falls trim. I don't trim it every day. So there are days you go with different different looks though it's hard to tell the next time when the now I can't sometimes I can't tell if you have a moustache. Sometimes you get rid of the mustache and you have. That's how you tell so when when you see my mustache going I haven't shaved in days because every time I actually shave. I go just the beard I don't what do you do you just trim the beard I trim. When do you go full? Shave Shave my neck. Nobody likes the beard when you go full shaving the beard. It's been a while. I do yeah I haven't. I can't remember the last time I did that. I think I did it. It has been since I've been with my wife because I remember doing at one time in her being like Oh. That looks Nice. I prefer you with the WOW Geez. I mean it could get that at all a little bit now a little bit but I'm not married again twenty three years old man I'm. I'm trying to live my life. How old are you twenty three twenty three because you twenty nine thousand nine hundred ninety five birthday December twenty second like Oh my God? That's my daughter's birthday. So how does that work because you get Christmas Christmas presents and birthday presents. How does that work were? You always cheated as a kid. I'm Julie Touche. Actually that's an interesting thing you bring up though because I have thought me and my wife has discussed the potential of when she gets older of hitting her with like a half like that's stupid right Ooh wait hold on wait. Did we talk about this yesterday on the air. I don't think we did what can we talk about this right now. What auto save it? I want to say but just in case because let's say it's a slam dunk all right slam dunk knowing people listening to us know what what is her birthday is December twenty second just like coal and you know we're like Oh. This is going to be tough. You know like Christmas birthday same thing. Should we June have like a half birthday for her versus. You know if you have a half birthday. Don't invite anyone because that is really testing your friendship with people. I'm telling you right now Earth Day eight is the worst I went to one. One of those and I'm like do I take a president is like what do I do. This is stupid. This baby's turning six months old. They don't even know what's going on. This is really just a part of the mom like this is ridiculous and by the way she's probably going to hear listen. I don't even care not to you. This is stupid no no more half birthdays. She's a lower listener. I get a text from time to time like Oh my God I heard this. I'm GonNa he listening to that. Wow Man yeah you were detonating friendships right now. Look I'd rather end that friendship anymore birthdays. I'm telling you right now. I guess if you're not right not lying yeah all right call good call man appreciate. How do we have time for one more call or we had done so? Did you guys notice that Cole hit me with the I'm Jewish as I was going with the whole thing of hey you got the birth of the twenty second Christmas the twenty fifth like how does that work. How did you get around the same time with a brick wall yeah he do? They stop okay cool. You'RE GONNA take another call well. Let's go one more topical call. Let's go to will on line five tall will. Has It gone today. Hey this is will they. I will reestablish that. I think that was a call back to a billy joke. I'm not sure that we're supposed to get down to brass tacks here. The mass senior smart I am is in no oh great down whatsoever and it's kind of frustrating to me. I watched the super sneak peek over the weekend.

"Asked the senator do you condemn Kelly ward who is the chairperson of the Arizona GOP I do you condemn her statements in which she said that and this is her words the ward use the word gone and dead when talking about the democratic senator candidate mark Kelly whose wife is Gabby Giffords who was shot at a let's say an open town hall at Safeway grocery store in twenty eleven. and I you and I kind of looked at each other wow I shocked she said not good not a good thing to do yeah and I mentioned it to our leader in the interview that you do you really don't see people who are on the same political side disagree with each other's comments especially when it comes to a gun issue or the phrasing of the issue or whatever and a democratic candidate so so I'm wondering has more to make Sally finally learn something from from the last election okay the last election this is what she did she went all trump I understand why she did it. her opponent cures and cinema just ignored the Democrats and the Republicans just one for the independence but I think when Martha mix alley where she hurt herself in the last election was that she wasn't authentic in her in in her opinion she tried to adopt more of a trump stance with a little bit and she tried to in in this is on it's not gonna come out real well how to weasel out of questions like politicians usually weasel themselves out of question right usually if somebody has a question they try not to answer it well I give her a lot of credit for answering that question today because I got to be honest with you I knew what was going to ask for that right out of the gate and I have five different ways to ask it again because what I was good you got anything back yeah was her non answer because that's what politicians usually do right and she was and she made it pretty clear I mean not crystal clear but it was pretty clear excoriate Kelly war and I don't expect you to do that but she don't like those comments right and center line that is why I say that maybe she learned something from the last election to give ME more authentic. answer I mean it's pretty clear to most people Kelly were right wrong saying what she said and and it's a it's an indication to that it sets the tone the town is that they can't you can't do what they did last time because it doesn't work right all right coming up next we've got the big four at four four big block buster stories could Martha make Sally and her comments.

"Prosecutors with special counsel, Robert Muller said that Michael Flynn did lie to the White House about his contacts with Russian ambassador before the January twenty seventeen interview and repeated the same falsehoods apparently to the FBI, well, what are the stories? We have been watching intently of the last couple of days is the story out of Colorado police there have been looking for Kelsey Berith. She's twenty nine she's a mom of a one year old little girl. She has a fiance the to do not live together. And the latest was his home was searched Alex stone joins us now with all the latest Alex take us back to the beginning. How did this all begin? Hey, guys. Will he hasn't been seen since thanksgiving November twenty second? But he was last seen at a Safeway grocery learning, woodland art, Colorado that cheers on surveillance video shopping inside that Safeway. And then nobody saw her after that except for one person her fiance. Say and he says, Patrick crazy. Brought their one year old daughter pay him. And then. And. Let's get a better line with Alex. Because I want to hear the I want to hear the whole story. I'm curious to see what sort of information, they have if anything about her location outside of his word because because Alex just mentioned that night was pinged in Idaho have. But that doesn't mean that she was there it just needs our phone was there, and I want to know the timetable because that's like seven hundred miles away. Right. Alex is back with us better line. Of course. Yeah. Let's try this line that I don't know where we left off with this whole thing. But that it was thanksgiving November twenty second to the last time anybody saw her. She was at a Safeway grocery store. She was seen on surveillance video, and then she disappeared from that point her fiance as you mentioned, they don't live together. But her fiance, Patrick Swayze? He says that he did see her very briefly after she was in that safe way. She came to pass off their daughter to him. That they don't live together. They share custody of the daughter, and then she laughed and he never heard from her again after that point. They don't know if he ran away. They don't know if she's the victim of a crime if she was kidnapped. I at this point police say they're in the dark there so many weeks into this. And they really don't know he claims he had nothing to do with it. Police are saying that he is cooperating. But today they executed that search warrant at his house. What they've been finding their their right now, we don't know, but they are looking for evidence. Is there anybody that can corroborate the fiance story about her being at the grocery store, and then Trump and the kid off anybody that would have seen the pass off or neighbors or anything like that? No, I we do know that she was at the grocery store because she's on video there. And it looks like she's doing what any mother would do that the young child is with her. She gets a shopping cart. And then she goes into the store, and that's about the only time she was seen on that video. But they know she was there because of that. And then at some point she laughed, and nobody saw now he claims that he did see her that same day on thanksgiving, and they made the hand off. And then she left at her home. They sound cinnamon rolls that were cooling on the counter her purse was there her two cars were parked outside. No indication that she was planning on going anywhere. But again, if you're trying to make yourself disappear police say, you can get pretty creative. They just don't know. They have no indication that crime was committed that she was kidnapped that anything happened to her. They don't know where she is the cell phone. Impinging seven hundred miles away have been able to locate that phone find my iphone and anything like that. No. And they think the phone is either off or it's dead. Now. What's interesting about Idaho? Where they got that thing. That's where she has family. That's her mom lives. But her mom has been in Colorado in woodland park, giving please in the local media saying Kelsey if you're out there if you can hear this just give us a call. Let us know you're safe and her family says she has made no contact with them. There was a text message that went to her employer. She's a flight instructor, but there are no planes. That are missing nobody rented out a plane, but she in this message if it was her or whoever had her phone it said, I need a couple of days I'll be back at work in a week. Well that was right after thanksgiving. And then nobody heard from her again. So there there are signs that she may have been wanting to get away going to where. She knows sending a text message saying I need some time. If it was Kelsey Barrett. Who actually sent that text message, and they don't know. Weird. And then the fiance has made zero public statements, right? Yeah. He was invited to a news conference this week by police and he didn't show up. So police told the media if you wanna know why he's not here. Go ask him and our teams tried and he essentially told our teams to to get off his property that that this is private property and to get away. He is wanted to say nothing to the media today. His attorney put out a statement saying that he is still completely cooperating with police and that if they had wanted to search his home that they should've just asked which we his attorney says they didn't ask and they went in and executed a search warrant through a raid. But yeah, otherwise, no we understand. He's been talking to police, but he hasn't said anything publicly. Awesome, alex. We appreciate your work. You gotta thanks Alex stone there the latest again, this is a strange case, but they have executed search warrants. They say at Chelsea barracks. Fiance's home. And may have even brought in cadaver dogs as well. All right. We'll come back. We're going to be talking about some of the movies that are coming out this weekend. Also are nine new stugotz. "Now, I think it's, I think it's too late for him. Right? I I believe so too. I think that there are there are professionals within the intelligence community who were working on this investigation. It's not only Muller at some of the top prosecutors in the country and enough of them are people of who understand that the job is to protect the country, not to protect the president and that are in it for the right reasons. So that even if Muller was taken out of the game or Rosenstein enough pros are in on it and working on it and enough, his work has been done that this will continue on. It's it's beyond the point of no return. That that is my view. Absolutely. But I do think we needed everything. Can't give them all of us. Gatien oh, their space and needs to do the best Gatien and to conclude it. And that is why we need to flip out. Oh yes, you know, it seems like it's been going on for such a long time, but we do have you know, if you look back at some of the investigations under the George W Bush administration, those one on a hell of a lot longer. The whitewater investigation went on longer. The Benghazi nonsense went on longer. It just seems it's it's hypocrisy on the part of the Republicans. They like to cry foul. Even though the things they're, they are accusing. The Democrats of doing are things that they do regularly. That is correct. And Muller investigation has been the most successful which hunt ever in US history. There has been multiple indictments, multiple guilty pleas, right and no one has been able to challenge any of those legal actions. Even there most hardcore Republicans don't say Paul Manafort wasn't guilty, right? They don't say Michael Flynn didn't lie to be I. So the Mola pro has been amazing successful and it's at least for the next month gonna continue to proceed and hopefully we can flip the house and protect it to its conclusion. I hope so. I did. Do you ever wonder how this presidency is going to end? I worry I was reading something just the other day about the a plan that there were contingencies being made to deal with Trump if he had lost in November of two thousand sixteen to. You know to to come out and challenge the veracity of the vote to say that it was, you know that it was all a hoax, not a hoax, but it was set up. It was. You know his word for fake every rigged. Thank you. And now there's talk of that again, he plays dirty pool. It's one of my problems as someone who does interviews and one of the reasons I don't like interviewing Republicans is because they tend to lie. And it's one thing to have an open and honest debate with someone when you're debating facts. But when they flat out, say, you know, you say the sky is blue and they say, no, it's green. It's hard to it's hard to have a good conversation with someone like that because they're gas lighting, you. I feel like this administration is gas lighting, the country on everything. You know, Trump is telling us the sky is green. While we know it's blue and he's got a bunch of people out there wearing these red maga- hats who say, if Donald Trump says, the sky is green, the sky is green. I wonder if we're going to be able to get back to a place when there's not even comedy, but just some. The ability to work with the people on the other side are we just so far divided, it's we're, we're decades away from any kind of detente. That's a great question. I started to think that maybe when we look at the same set of facts that a Republican member, congressman, I would have widely divergent predations because of ideology or partisanship, and maybe there's two realities going out. But then I read this amazing article by Eric, Erikson, he's a conservative writer. I don't really agree with him on very much, but this is a fascinating article where he talks about his conversation with a Republican member of congress at a Safeway grocery store and this fucking number congress. "Every every i've never laughed once whenever there's a promo and they have her making some sort of political joke i never laughed trying your he's trying she's doing quite well i plead the fifth w t f segment under oath you can't simply saying here that i know i don't like activists comedians i don't like i don't like politically minded comedians because i think if you're a comedian the only thing you should worry about is the funny the only thing you should care about is that when you get to that punchline it's funny and people laugh i don't think you should be thinking i'm gonna make a point or i'm gonna further a cause or i'm going to resist i don't care what side is from i'm not interested in hearing ted nugent tell jokes either to me comedy is the best comedians all they're going for the laugh that's all they're going for and you know the old phrase for artists if you want to send a message go to western union that is to make any sense anymore because nobody goes to western union you can't you can't even use that one so samantha however i have to say i read this article and it is a pretty good job of trying to figure out samantha b says that through exhaustive detective work loose left by erik erikson she's discovered the congressman that eric erickson met at the safeway grocery store last week i'll tell you this the conclusions he comes up with makes sense to me so very quickly she went through all the stuff she wanted to careful calculation suspect is a man so you get rid of all the women suspect is not a senator so you get rid of everybody in the senate suspect is a republican see throw any democrats suspects drastic voted for trump so there are republican in the house district voted for trump suspect is not on the judiciary committee these are all things that eric erickson is said suspect is not a true believer meaning they were late to the trump train in the primary season suspect is neither paul ryan nor kevin mccarthy eric erickson apparently said that suspect remembers the good old days of the cafeteria he brought up when pelosi apparently tried to turn the congressional cafeteria into an organic place where you couldn't get good foods so that means this he had to.

"Match limited by state law donald now should be pointed out luke and i were just talking if you look at eric erikson's past eric erickson has been a nevertrumper all along fact good new yorker did a profile in with a new yorker does a profile on you as a conservative normally they're gonna stab you in the eye with a pen and steal all your stuff but last year that it a profile a never trump conservative adjusts to the new administration and it talks about eric erickson said they won't let children watch trump and he won't let this sunny he lives in macon georgia about his his trump hater and nevertrumper i'm this republican member of congress study allegedly spoke to him the safeway grocery store he even gave us what aisles he was in although not well it star ericsson won't allow his children who are eight and eleven i guess they're nine and twelve now to watch the president on television course that hasn't stopped them from becoming familiar in their own way with the finer points of donald trump now this is of course a smear piece on trump using eric erickson willingly to create an anti trump peace and eric eric said it it it honestly it's important to point out in this context that this guy has been and presumably continues to be a trump hater so we've got that going for us yes we do in washington dc dr eagles post has a story a homeless man wants to be dc's next mayor will the city let him on the ballot i certainly hope so because i know who i'm voting for if we've got a look at your choices i'll vote for the homeless guy i don't even know who it is with no credible opponent challenging mayor muriel bowser the democrat merely a buzzer was she's had many careers and she used to be with shana i liked her best when she was with shana no credible opponent challenging mayor mural e bowser for reelection the campaign's most scintillating drummer may be whether a man who says he sleeps on sidewalks in buses and in.

"At a bizarre night last night within thirty minutes of having gotten off the air my my night took a turn for the unusual it is making international headlines believe it or not yes your atlanta host here in washington is making international headlines today though for the bizarre turn of the night congressman and cars getting groceries i guess we need to put that on net or something we will get to that that is not though the big news the big news is paul ryan deciding to retire he's not resigning contrary to some news reports he's retired and he's he's not going to run for office and it's kind of interesting so i did last night had this i mean it was surreal a congressman i'm not friends with this particular congressman we we are acquainted we have a cordial relationship and he asked if i would go grocery shopping with him last night he didn't wanna be seen on the hill with me so we went to a safeway grocery store he needed to get some stuff come in town for the facebook hearings and whatnot today and one of the things he was talking about was that kevin mccarthy this is circling like well putting it politely a green fly circling poop trying to get paul ryan's job and big indication that paul ryan was done and i presumed that to be he was gonna run get reelected and then he would step aside so there'd be special election but ensure that the seat made it through this blue wave that's coming and no he's just he's not going to run again so it's an open seat race in wisconsin i am told that the special election in wisconsin remember there was one about two weeks ago maybe it was a week ago i can't remember anyway there was a special election in wisconsin conservative judge versus a liberal judge liberal judge one but the conservative judge one paul ryan's congressional district and that was the final indicator he needed that he could leave congress at the end of this term and the seat would not fall into democratic hands but he does not want to stick.
