UNESCO, a long three for the win and she gets in Sabrina at the buzzer. These are things that could happen. That's like, you know, less hot dogs more wieners. I'm trying to figure that out, but sneakers not footwear. Okay. Something else, NBA, they're saying, look, we're gonna open some more stories. And we're not just talking about in Michael Barr's backyard. We're talking about around the world. Yeah, they want to open my stores in so many other markets. They wouldn't share exactly which ones they were. They have 37 stores right now and told me that they could end up with 50, a hundred and all depends. They're just trying to be opportunistic with new locations. But in the last 12 months, they've been very busy opening these stories. Paris, Melbourne, Johannesburg, Abu Dhabi, and then the latest one just opened in Manila in the Philippines. They said they wanted to do some catching up is what they said in Latin America and especially in Mexico. So you should see more stores opening there. That just invites the question, they're competing with, I mean, there's a lot of NBA gear in those markets. It's just most of it happens to be pirated and counterfeit. Yeah, they work with a bunch of a bunch of partners in these places for the real, the real license product. There is a ghost port in France, zebi O in Japan, centauro, and Brazil. These are big chains that are local. That they work with. And that's where most of this merchandise is sold. But getting their presence in these international markets is crucial for the NBA. These are people who don't will never probably have a chance to go actually attend an NBA game across the world, right? So you gotta go to them. You're on to something that's really interesting and it sort of compare and contrast with what we were just talking about with Under Armour, right? Just the fact that the NBA has successfully partnered with these local retailers, go sport you mentioned, I mean el corte ingles in Spain, right? So my question is, is this the model that the NBA is going to continue to pursue or do you see these partnerships evolving as the pie continues to grow? I think they'll both things. They'll evolve in the NBA is going to want more of its own stores that it can fully control and really build the brand off of. They're opening these other types of attractions as well. There's the NBA courtside restaurant up in Toronto and in Brazil, there's something called the NBA park. A theme park? It's like a theme park. It's a three story complex. Everything MBA is a basketball court inside, a restaurant, a store to buy jerseys and they want to open more of these different kinds of attractions around the world as well. You know, that's a great idea because I can't think of the other three major food groups in the sports. That's doing something like this. Yeah, I don't think so either. International growth has been such a priority for commissioner Adam silver. Yes. So Joel embiid just won the MVP? He's from Cameroon. He's the first NBP since James Harden in 2018, I think, to have played in the NCAA because the previous four years it was Nikola Jokić and Yanis I did a goop. "It may not seem like much. And it's not going to change the game completely, but it's a start. And for somebody to go with literally one tweet. And spark that conversation to the point where they're really talking about a partial solution. That's a lot of power. That one reagent just wielded. After the break, the precedent in another sport. That might be a path forward. This episode is sponsored by State Farm. Buying insurance can be complicated, and you might have a lot of questions, like what if my policy doesn't cover that, or what if I need to make a claim in the middle of the night? Good news, State Farm is there for all your what ifs. You can reach them 24/7, talk through any questions with your agent, and you can even file a claim on the State Farm mobile app. Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there. Caller go to State Farm dot com to get a quote today. What's the precedent that the WWE is going to lean on here as they try to envision a template and sports business in general for what they're going to try and do? Well, just look at Major League Soccer. Major League Soccer in 2020 they had a new collective bargaining. They had their players had been flying commercially for years, just like the WNBA. And when they signed the new labor contract in 2020, they went to charters. And that league is a little more developed. But if you look at the ratings, the WNBA says, hey, a lot of our ratings are better than the MLS ratings. Why is our broadcast right? And they have several of them. Why are they at this level where the MLS just got a 125 million from Apple? And this is a golden era for media rights deals around professional sports. I mean, you've seen just gigantic numbers. As employees of ESPN, we should be clear about this too that this is part of where we stare directly into the camera and break the fourth wall a little bit. Like the WNBA contractors with ESPN as it happens. It's with ESPN and they have a couple other licensing agreements as well. But generally speaking, ESPN has been the broadcast home of the WNBA. It's where the biggest games on our Internet. And it's been a very good broadcast partner for the league for a long time. So there's going to be an interesting situation coming up both for you as Chan but also other streaming services. How much does the Amazon get involved here? Amazon was, I think, the first streamer to invest in the new NBA. And their rights deals are not on the same order of magnitude as other as other leagues, especially the MLS, Major League Baseball, football, the NBA. Correct. But the WNBA, when you ask them about it, they say, well, look at our ratings. The ratings are pretty good. And so I think it's a bit of a chicken in the egg. Is it because it's on ESPN? It's the biggest platform and it's very time when you're not competing against the NBA or football. Can you sustain local ratings? Do all the teams have a local broadcast partner? That spends money to televise its games? It's a really interesting financial question of what those media rights are. We'll be answered over the next couple of years. And I think that brings us back to Reagan and the super teams that have been constructed in this off season. Right. I mean, this off season has seen the birth of two specific super teams, and it starts with the Las Vegas aces, who are last year's champs, and they have Asia Wilson, Chelsea gray, Kelsey plum, and now Candace Parker, and then the New York liberty are, yeah, stocked with the number one overall pick from a few years ago, Sabrina UNESCO, who is a star. They have Breonna Stewart, who we just discussed, and also they have, by the way, former MVP John called Jones and four time all star Courtney van der sloot, and so it is basically like if both conferences had their own version of, yeah, the KD staff clay, Golden State Warriors. Yeah, the ratings for those finals were gigantic. Okay. Whenever the calves would play the warriors, my name's laid all those years in a row. They did well. People were interested. People love heroes and villains. People love rivalries. Hannah's Parker, who was probably the biggest reason before Brianna Stewart ever leave a team that drafted her and she won a championship with when she went to the Chicago sky a couple years ago, oh, she just left the sky and joined the defending champion in Las Vegas. So now we get to talk about how is Candice Parker and Asia Wilson gonna play together. How are Chelsea gray, Candice Parker? Gonna play together now that you're reunited. What's it gonna be like when the sky plays the ace is like, these are great storylines. No, it feels like Vegas is seeing this inflection point and seizing it. They are spending in all sorts of ways it seems to be the number one team in this reimagined sport. I like how you put that. They are spending it all sorts of ways. Because a little while ago, Howard begged all broke a story about Las Vegas being investigated for possible circumvention of the salary cap. Now we saw this in the NCAA for years and years when people should be paid more or could be paid more by other outside interests. There are ways to pay them more off the books or create a ways to do that. The WNBA I can tell you is investigating the Las Vegas aces for possible circumvention of the salary cap and this issue came up because deer camby, who was traded to Los Angeles sparse while she was pregnant with a little upset about it, felt like promises were made and wrote that an Instagram post promises were made that have that she felt had now been gone back on. Not just because they traded her while she was pregnant, but because this idea promises were made and that's a classic phrase that one would use to hint at what happened to our wink weight, not a deal of how you were going to get me more money because you could only offer me this under the salary cap. And that is from what I understand and ongoing investigation to the point where, look, Mark Davis owns the Las Vegas Raiders. Owned the Las Vegas. They say another guy with one of those billions with a B guys. Okay? Plenty of money. Not in billion years, millionaires, very big difference. This is a really interesting story to follow over the next weeks and months because this super team in Las Vegas they already want a title and then they added Candice Barker. They want a title and then they added quite possibly the perfect player to play alongside Asia Wilson and Chelsea gray, who has already won a title with Chelsea gray. Oh, I would be mad to Ramona. I'd be so mad if I was another competitor in this league, of course. We don't just have two super to use. We have two super teams. Well, a lot of controversy are on them. It's a reason to watch. Yeah, it really is. The soup or team era and

I'm Matt and sin. This is balance and power with David Weston. The state of American energy is strong. Our nation has the resources and the expertise to meet our energy needs. Eventually, we'll end up with a vaccine that will be able to do better against multiple variants. Where the world of politics meets the world of business. It's a bad has to raise rates. And by the way, that's a good thing. The cause of inflation has been this historic pandemic, which is upended life in so many different ways in particularly his upended America's supply chains. Balance of power with David Westin on Bloomberg radio. Coming up this hour, we'll get a comprehensive view of the economy from Ed Hyman of Evercore. And the Supreme Court deals a major blow to President Biden's climate agenda. I talk about it with UCLA law professor Blake Emerson. Plus, is the select committee on the January 6th capital invasion building a legal as well as a political case against former president Donald Trump. But first, whether transitory or not, the supply chain problems we are seeing are persisting for his view on the supply chain and why it isn't getting fixed. I spoke with Columbia business school professor and dean emeritus Glenn Hubbard. Well, it is slowly getting fixed. If you look in the goods markets, it is slowly being alleviated, but there will be problems for some time. This isn't going away this year. In the labor market, you have inflation, people have wage demands, perhaps, that are different than before the pandemic. And obviously long COVID changes in the types of jobs, people want to do. This will sort itself out, but it's not going to be quick. So how long is the long term? As I guess my question, specifically on skills. In your book, actually, the wall in the bridge, you talked about training people for specific skills. Do we have a longer term problem here that we don't have people trained for the jobs that we need them for? We definitely do. And in fact, for the jobs they may now want to do as they change their careers, we're not a society that does very well at this. There are a lot of things we could do. Businesses could do government can do, but we're not doing much of it. What about the situation with the economy more generally? And particularly on inflation, we have a chair Jay Powell saying, essentially, he's going to do whatever it takes to get inflation down. Even if it means recession, which is a bigger danger right now inflation or recession. Both. And here's what I mean by that. I think what chair Powell is saying is getting inflationary expectations back in the box and inflation back in the box is job one. Doing that in a so called soft landing to my mind is very hard. Inflation is starting to come down, but it's not going to come down to 2% all by itself. It might come down to the low fours or high threes by itself. That leaves share Powell in the box of action. Unfortunately for him, because inflationary expectations are a worrisome thing at the moment, he may still have to be very aggressive. So unfortunately a soft landing, I think, is somewhat unlikely. Are there structural factors that are beyond chair Powell's ability to control in terms of long-term inflation? Maybe not 8% inflation, but three or 4% inflation. Things like a de globalization, some people call it things like demographics, fewer people coming into the workforce. And for that matter, dealing with climate, there are some forces longer term that may increase costs of things. All of those are true. I don't think it's going to affect long-term inflation. Think of it more like a one time increase in prices and costs. It may make firms less valuable. But I think chair Powell can get inflation to 2%. What about consumer spending that it appears to be softening as a practical matter? And by the way, a consumer sentiment is not none too hot right now either. What does that say about the strength of the economy? Well, it's not just consumer sentiment, CEO sentiment is very low, and that's very troubling, real consumer spending has come down. In fact, to a point where we may technically be entering a recession, that is, of course, part of the demand destruction the fed was trying to do. The question is not doing so much that it tips the balance into a full blown recession very early. What are the chances we actually are in a session just don't know it. It's possible, given the decline in real personal consumption, given the fall in real personal income, I wouldn't say it's overwhelmingly likely, but I wouldn't rule it out. And of course, the national bureau of economic research that gets to make this call, it's not just a rule of thumb on GDP, but it's something to watch. Does it matter? And by that, I mean this. There's one thing that's a downturn, maybe even a substantial downturn. Another is a recession technically. Does it matter whether it technically becomes a recession as opposed to a downturn? No. It doesn't matter either economically or politically, economically, people will be hurting in a recession, whether it's called that or not. And politically, political leaders will certainly feel the heat, whether the NBER uses the R word or not. You are, of course, an economist, as far as I can tell, I'm not a market trader. Correct. But the market's desperately want to know, where's the bottom? What is it going to come back? From an economics point of view, where do you think the bottom is and when is it? Well, I think it's easier to talk about the win is. If once people come to the view that discount rates, interest rates aren't going to keep going up, up, up. And more clear view about corporate earnings, that's when we'll see the bottom. At the moment, when interest rates ran up to 3% on the ten year, they fall on back a little, but still much higher than they were. That was a worry in terms of discounting corporate cash flows. And then there have been concerns about earnings. When those two things get resolved, I think we'll know we're there. In the past in this country, we've turned to capitalism to take us out of some difficult situations. And on average over time, it has done a lot of good lifting people out of poverty, improving people's lives. Is there a failure of confidence in capitalism that you see even at the Columbia business school right now? Because of some of the inequalities we've seen, some of the failures that we've seen. Well, your question put the finger on it. I think students in some business people some members of the public will say they're skeptical about capitalism. I don't infer from that. They mean they love socialism. I think it means they're concerned about inequality of opportunity in our society. And what do we do about it? Honestly, capitalism is still the best way to deal with that, but we need to do a little bit more than we're doing right now. But is there a market failure in car

This is masters in business with Barry Reynolds on Bloomberg radio. I'm Barry Ritz, you're listening to masters in business on Bloomberg radio, my extra special guest this week is someone I've known for a long time. Perth toll is the founder of the life and liberty indexes, she is also the sponsor of the freedom 100 emerging markets ETF, it's a first of its kind strategy using personal and economic freedom metrics as key factors in driving the investing process Perth has lived in Beijing and Hong Kong. She currently lives in Texas. And her experiences overseas is what helped lead to the freedom and liberty indexes, Perth toll welcome to Bloomberg. Thank you for having me, Barry. Let's start with the basic inspiration. I love the concept and it's amazing nobody thought of this before previous to you. What was the inspiration for the life and liberty indexes? So the seed for the idea was planted when I went back and lived in Hong Kong after college. I was born in Beijing and I grew up in both China and the U.S. going back and forth between the two countries. After college, I went and lived in Hong Kong for about a year, reconnecting with my dad's side of the family. And while I was there, I traveled to the mainland to Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and I saw things that as a person who grew up in a free society mostly in my formative years, that shocked me, and I realized that my life would have been very different. Had I stayed in China for my entire childhood and as opposed to having come to the United States. So it made a difference in my life. And I realized that it was freedom that made that difference. Let's talk a little bit about both personal and economic freedom. How do you use these metrics as creating an index which the ETF is based on? So the metrics that we use come from third party think tanks, the Cato institute and the Fraser institute. And this keeps

With a Bloomberg sports update, I'm at mattson. This is Bloomberg intelligence, but Alex Steele and Paul Sweeney on Bloomberg radio. We'll be here each and every week at this time Tapping into Bloomberg intelligence analyst carving some 2000 companies in 130 industries worldwide. While many are talking about how for the back half of the year, earnings estimates are going to have to come down. Profit margins are going to have to come down. One company, though, that might stand out and not have to do that is Emerson Electric. Designs and manufacturers electronic and electrical equipment, software, systems, and services. And they're actually doing really well, despite their stock being hammered so far this year. Joining us now with more is Caro and Uber hard senior industry analyst for Bloomberg intelligence. All right, give me the reason why I should be powered up on Emerson. A couple of things. One, they are very energy exposed 23% of sales. Their biggest business, which has been lagging, two thirds of the company now has an opportunity to benefit from higher CAPEX. Number two, they're on their way to beating all their 2023 targets. They're ahead of schedule. They're already meeting the margin target for this business. The energy related business that's just coming, turning around. They have a record backlog, and they're about to complete a $650 million savings program. So there's a lot of upside in. They have a day and Analyst Day in November. They'll raise all their expectations and the financial targets. So talk to us about the cost side Karen. We hear about inflation impacting margins for companies across many, many industry verticals. Talk to us about Emerson and their outlook. Emerson had an activist come about three years ago to tell them to get their act together on costs. They went to the drawing board and are doing structural takeouts across the board and the company and actually started in 2019. And their margins have exceeded expectations and they're not done. So there was pressure to do that. They did it, and they're now seeing the benefits of that and they've got one more year to go. What are some going to be some of the extra catalysts we have to think about? Capital spending, particularly on the upstream side, is expected to be up over 20% this year and another 10% next year. That's big kicker for Emerson in the automated solutions business. I think both those numbers could be low because they've been under investing for a number of years. They'll also probably be some help on the refining side, but for them the upstream side right now is the most important. Secondly, they have record backlog in that business. And again, $6.4 billion backlog. And again, it's just started to turn. So there's a lot that becomes sales. It's a long cycle business. Everybody's very worried about the more short cycle stuff because of a recession. There's automated solutions is all CAPEX driven. It's not just energy, it's chemicals, it's other things, but that tends to hold up better in the early part of a downturn. And I think the numbers are too low. I looked at how much automated solutions grew in the last four energy CAPEX cycles, and that grew 16%, 13%, double digit, consensus right now, has that segment growing at about 7%. I went through different scenarios I used 13% as the mid range and I come up with a 9% above consensus EPS, and I think there's probably upside. So estimates are already starting to drift up, but I think they can drift up more. Talk to us about valuation Karen here. I'm looking at the stock, is that about 14% year to date, but that's outperforming the S&P 500, which is down a little bit more than 20%. How does valuation look here? Emerson is underperformed on a three and a 5 year, and this is the first year they've actually outperformed. And I think some of that is people saying, wait a minute, they're in the right, they're in the automated solutions is in the sweet spot. It's time for them to turn. This new CEO is really executing. So you're starting to see people warm up to it. Energy is nothing if it's not cyclical. And I understand that this time structurally we may be in a different place with energy. If it is still cyclical in a year, are we going to be talking about how Emerson is appropriately priced and that their cycle's not going anywhere? Well, this is usually a multiyear turn. I mean

That is like a little bit vaccine at times like i. i can't remember the exact name right now. but when sabrina unesco took like a kind of a heave from like thirty feet out got absolutely clobbered. I was like. We're not calling this like it was like some of that stuff is just wild to see play out but yeah that's actually a good transition to I want to talk about the new york liberty Not just my girlfriend. We don't but also because they are an extremely interesting team to me in terms of like projecting out moving forward I really enjoy watching them like i think. If if you didn't tell me what their record was. And i didn't watch the last five minutes of every game. I would think this was a playoff team. Already they really struggle with with With end of game situations as that hints at. But i really just enjoy the hell out of this team. Like i laney. I understand like there's frustration with. She turns the ball overlap but also like looking everything else. She does She's incredible she's having such a good frigging season like just watching. I get mesmerized. Washing her play basketball. She sees the court so well the things she does like. Call your connective passer. Almost feels unfair. Because she's so much more than that what she's a ball handler. Can run pecan roll can do pretty much anything but like just What she does sets everything for For the liberty in general her abilities as a shotmaker has been really fun to watch I okay i guess. We're i really wanna go with. This is where are you at with sabrina. unesco's development right now. Because i think that is kind of my biggest question. I come away from watching the season. I actually thought in in watching her. The last month this most recent gaming us the mercury was probably her best game. That i've watched not as much in the second half but the first half was fantastic And i feel like she's obviously a huge of where the liberty are trying to go from your like. They need more consistent stuff in the half court. They need to be a little bit more set defensively. They have if feels like they really have the pieces to be a good team. But i guess i'm ranting here but but where are you guys out with liberty and and we can go from there. I'm just going to set this up by saying that. Okay now cisco and put a game on the new york liberty like that and then just bounce is a little cold. It's a little cold. We haven't we we miss. Jj day but she put on a show. I mean what the twenty fifth season of the wnba is where it's at. I know yano this. But i've just need to share this with a friend because i know people acting like the wnba is new. We're gonna focus on that connecticut new york liberty team our new york liberty game. Excuse me connecticut ends up getting that win. They are the at the top of the table when it comes to. The commissioner's cup. So you're going to get a little bit of my analysis of that and you're going to get a halftime huddle. This time. I was joined by miles. Erlich and jeff maglione chetty they were alive from mohegan sun arena. So you just adjust your volume accordingly. But it's fantastic to have them. I will live vicariously through the the highlights through the slow mo phantom cams through the post game media. Can we please just get a five game series between dallas and seattle. Is it possible that we could will at the end of the show. We're going to go through all of the standings we still have about a month about thirty days a little bit more. Actually a little bit over a month of competition left before the olympic break. Of course we'll see players come in and out in that time. Jj being one of them. But i don't know we'll see i'll give you the standings figure out if there's a possibility at all that we will get dallas seattle somewhere down the line and then we'll wrap it up. I think it's going to be a good show. I'd probably say that all the time but as you can hear. I have some energy. I'm in my normal recording space. So that's always good. It's going to be a good time. Stick with me right here on locked on women's.

You know to prove everyone to prove everyone wrong and everyone that does believe in me and so i'm just excited in blessed to be able to play the game again to have such a great support system around me. Sabrina Ionescu on Her Next Move

"Hey Sabrina how's it going good her you that Sabrina UNESCO the presumptive number-one pick tomorrow's WNBA draft? I'm good so the draft is tomorrow night I tell us. What is the scene at? Your House can't be like I'm really just going to be with my parents. My brother and his wife and the twin brother just a small group of us that have been together and just watch the TV in. Have a good time. Are you going to get dressed up in any way which these days means just putting on pants with the button? Yeah No. I'm not going to wear a dress or anything. I think I'm just going to put on jeans and a shirt. That's big in the big. That shows you're serious. I can't remember the last time I wear jeans. But that's neither here nor there. You are not the only duck headed to the pros at your teammates. Bali Ruthie Hubbard are both being projected as first round picks which is of course a reminder to everyone of how good the team was obviously the tournament. Being canceled was a big disappointment after you return for a final season. I want to ask about it this way. What do you think you gained from coming back for that last year? I think I gained so much just maturity leadership and just really the relationships that I built during that last year I mean so many people were excited and happy that I returned in. I mean I think the community just around women's basketball at in Oregon grew when so it was really eye opening to be able to see all the relationships that I made during that year. And just how close a as a team that we got so Obviously that translated on the Evolving my game getting better on all sides so the drafts is happening. Which is great even though it's virtual but there is no certainty right now around the actual season. How are you wrapping your mind around that yet? I mean it's hard trying to figure out when to ramp up training in exactly you know knowing when the seasons GonNa be played in when you're supposed to be in your prime in so just trying to do everything I can to stay in shape so as of now. I'm just running playing basketball working out. You know not trying to do too much too soon. Just because I'm not sure when the season's GonNa start but just staying mentally and physically ready you have wanted to play in the WNBA. Since you are very young we have video evidence that three laws just throwing the ball around again a lot of experience playing on my brothers ten foot from overall value on my basketball experiences looking forward to anymore my family has always been there for as Beijing to keep pushing David. Wnba and now that it's here it's sort of at your footsteps. How do you feel it will be different from the basketball? You played so far. I mean it's going to be completely different. Just the physicality the level of competition. It's kind of just a new way of taking on the game in a new way of basketball. It's going to be completely different than college. High School anything that I've ever done in some really excited for the opportunity to get better and just learn finding different ways to look up to not only my teammates but other veterans in the League. Transfer Ball game in that aspect. Would you anticipate being the most challenging part? Probably just getting adjusted to the physicality in the speed of the game. I mean it coming in as a rookie. There's there's players there that you know I've been planning for ten plus years so they're gonNa make sure no they let you know that you're a rookie in so I think that aspect is going to be fun but also challenging. You got a preview of the pros last November when your team played and beat team. Usa Oregon ducks defeating the United States. National TV ninety three eighty six. What was that like? It was awesome to just be able to share a court with them and learn from them. Obviously the wind was awesome. But I think it was even more special that you know. We're able to sell out crowd against team. Usa just learn from them engage in conversation with them and be able to share court with them because not a lot of people say that they've done that. Was there anyone on that court? That made you geek out a little where you're like. I cannot believe I am right now on a basketball court with person I mean for sure. Like suber Diane Atrocity. There were so many players but I think those would probably be to my favorite just because of gotten to know them a little bit in in being able to play with them. This was an honor so every mock draft every analysts every article has you projected to be the first overall pick. How does that make you feel? I mean until my name's called until I can sign the paper. I'm not too excited about it. I don't WanNa be disappointed so I never expect anything so obviously very humbled excited about the opportunity to be playing in Brooklyn in that organization until here might many call notes official kind of just keeping up level so if you did go first overall a Newark Liberty. Were ten twenty four buses in anywhere you go near the top you'd be on a rebuilding team. How does that strike you joining a team? That's not already on top. I mean I did that organ for the last four years so I know exactly what it's like having to come in kind of build a program from the ground up so that doesn't scare me at all. I'm excited to be. You know a piece of the puzzle in hopefully get things rolling when you look back at your college career. Take stock of it. What was the most special moment to you? I probably just say time with my teammates and getting filed for there were so many highs through those four years in so many great wins and just being able to do that with a group of girls in team that really cares about each other was very special. What was the lowest moment? Probably losing in the final four on my career short. Those two probably the worst. How did you get the news that the tournament was cancelled or coach? Had texted us. Basically just said you guys can stay where you are with your families. You don't have to return gene. The tournaments cancelled arm. Sorry in everyone was responding in that group messages. Our team were chatting so you let us know and obviously it was heart breaking out again. You were expecting it to go that direction. How long did take you to kind of process? You know. I wasn't really processing it. I try not to think about it too much in just like all right. This is out of my control. It is what it is in Kinda. Just try to look forward on on what was next in. There are so many things going on that I didn't really you know. Focus on it too much in. Probably they look back into Swish. That we couldn't went on with the season so we could have seen how it would turn out in what have been able to play my last game knowing it was my last game but just not to look back on it too much. We had an episode. Fivethirtyeight ran a simulation on the tournament. They head Baylor winning now. Our analyst opposed that idea. How do you think it would've played out I don't think we were going to lose again. I guess. Take that as you want it but I did not see us losing again. So that's all I can say. Well I think watching the draft and seeing the number of players who were going to be taken first overall. That doesn't seem like a outrageous proposition. No three out of the top ten probe. We're going to be going to the League from one team that speaks for itself and super excited for my teammates. But I do think it speaks about what we had as a team. They're probably not likely that another team. Whatever you know. Get to that point again. What is the aspect of playing regularly that you miss the most just competing in playing games especially an Eugene is having our fan base in projected to have two more sellout crowds probably about twenty thousand people in Portland if we made it so regionals and so having that support system implying a real game something that all that are missing right now? You mentioned that Oregon Team USA. You guys sold out a game. Obviously you have gotten a lot of people excited about women's basketball some people that maybe weren't as excited before. How do you hope to continue that? When you get to the pros. Yeah I mean it's been awesome sooner transformation in Eugene with fans of for my first year to my last than new hopefully being able to bring To wherever team I end up in Kinda just change the way that they view women's sports in hopefully can bring joy and happiness not competing that is kind of addicting and people do want to be a part of that in watching that culture so hopefully just taking matt from from what. I did an Eugene in bringing that to To whatever team on

Sabrina Ionescu Wants to Win the Whole Damn Thing

"Merrill is a senior writer for ESPN and spent time with Sabrina UNESCO in her family last year for an in-depth profile Liz gets called generational talent? Now sometimes it feels like every top prospect every year gets called a generational talent but with her. It does not seem like hyperbole. No it's not. She's the real deal. She is sort of the Serena Williams of women's basketball. She can shoot the ball. You'd ask you three out. Topped the net barely move. She can dish out passes with relative ease. It looks like she's not even trying cut by over us into double figures at a great pass by ZIP on her passes they get there so quickly and then she can crash the boards UNESCO rebound. She's opened for three it. And you look at the stat sheet and all of a sudden. Wow this kid has thirty points ten assists and ten rebounds and you didn't notice because she makes it look so effortless people are taking notice. Celebrities are taking notice celebrities. Have come just to watch her and the Oregon women play Which you would have never really heard of that. Ten or fifteen years ago like male professional athletes taking the time to meet her or give her a shoutout. I mean this is an example of game recognizing game. Well what have some of those other athletes said about her well Steph? Curry has called her. A legend Libron has called her queen and said that she so dope. Kobe has had. Actually you know gone to meet her. Him and his daughter had seen her play. And what evolved? There was a friendship. You didn't necessarily see that crossover before you know when you did in in times past. You're like wow if you ever saw like a male athlete especially the best of the best. When you're talking about Lebron and staff in Kobe I mean these are guys who've actually seen her play and have taken the time to either go on twitter. Whatever venue and to praise her play. That's a pretty big deal. You know. Even Gino Auriemma said. She's smart. She waits for you to make a mistake a lot of lot of guards. They go so fast that they don't give you a chance to make a mistake. She goes at a pace. Where she waits in waits and waits. When you screw up. She takes advantage of and that's saying a lot for from him who has seen so many great players. I mean every time you think of a great women's basketball player. We're almost always talking about somebody who went to uconn. Be Terachi or BRIANNA STEWART. Or Sue bird or my amore. We're almost always talking about someone who come from that program. Now we're talking about somebody who plays for Oregon and it's not like Oregon is in the middle of nowhere but it's not an easy place to watch basketball because they're on the west coast. You're not GONNA if the if they are on. Tv A lot of times. They're late but yet a more and more people are getting to know about her star power and the fact that you've got all of these these guys who are at the best of the best. You've got Lebron calling her queen I mean that is that's being displayed to all of his millions of followers. Some of the praise that she's received you just. You don't see that you haven't seen that in the past from other women's basketball players. Cobi not only praised her. He actually broke down her game for us. We'll look Sabrina and say okay. She's great handling the ball. Of course us. She's great onscreen roles. Of course she is but what makes really dangerous is that she can catch and shoot to right so she can move off the ball. She's just as dangerous. Doing this. Offer catching shoot. She was asked about him after his death and had this to say I mean everything I do. I do it for him. Obviously Really close friend and this season's for him. What was their relationship like so she met him he. He attended one of her games and over the past year so they became pretty close. She admired his game deeply and vice versa. He you know obviously Kobe with a daughter. Who's really into Basketball that was sort of a bond a she was really emotional after Learning of his death She dedicated that next game to him and kind of broke down just talking about him before we get to this season and what. Sabrina 's accomplishing. I WanNa talk to you about how this all began. How Her story starts? You did a big profile of Sabrina. Last year you spent time with her and her family was she like as a kid well so she had a really unique background. Her family's from Romania. She didn't grow up there but in nineteen eighty nine. The was a revolution in Romania and her father. Dan wanted to leave the country seeking political asylum and so he left for Northern California leaving his wife and their two year old son Andrei behind. He went there sort of for the American dream to kind of provide for the family told the family told his wife. Hey hopefully I can send for you in six months. Got a cab job and was trying to make some money now. That six months a turned into five years five years past he by this time he has turned that cab job into his own limousine company and he can send for the family. So that's nine thousand nine hundred five two years later. Pair of twins were born A boy and a girl and Sabrina came I of course because she would end up being sort of the bossie sibling of the family. And then Eddie came. I think eighteen minutes later That really forged her path having a twin brother who played basketball and the reason they started playing basketball was because both parents worked and maybe it was a simpler time but her dad would drop them off at a park down the street and Walnut Creek and she just started playing her. Daddy would play with other kids. Klay Curry COMP. Exactly she was the one bringing the curry. Okay say you know I was first recurring there you go. She'd get knocked around a lot and she do some knocking herself and sheer. Her skills really evolved from that street basketball into what we see. Now which is one of women's basketball's lead. I mean they got so good that they would start hustling older kids or even adults for like money. that they would use to buy slurpy and you know they speak Romanian and so they could actually Kinda have their own code when they're playing or even if they wanted to make fun of the players that they were playing against they talk to each other in Romania. Hate to use the word tomboy but she was You know her. Mom told me when Sabrina was in junior high. Some a counselor called and said hey you know. We're really concerned about her going to high school. Because she doesn't really communicate with any females. She over friends or boys and her mom's like yeah whatever. Okay I'll get right on that and did nothing. Because she knew that she was developing this young woman who was strong who had her own voice and did what she wanted to and was really good at it so her size helped them in that hustle. Did it lead to her being underestimated when she got to junior high and high school she was but by the time she was leaving high school and being recruited obviously she was heavily sought after. Shit. Yeah She. She wasn't the first person you would look for on the court. She wasn't necessarily anything spectacular By any means but once you saw her play in what she could do a lot of her stuff is like you know the old fashioned elbow grease stuff where you know she the reason. She has all those rebounds is because when she played with boys she never got the ball and so the only way she was getting the ball is if she somehow muscled her way in there. The family is not a basketball family. Didn't even know anything about basketball before they came here and even in those first years they. It wasn't something that they really knew. A lot about coming from Romania. Pretty much everything she has gotten has sort of. Been off of this whole work

Breanna Stewart calls out NCAA for lack of respect to women's game during March Madness

"But first a brief rant and listen. I could go on a lot longer than I'm going to keep it. I'm going to keep it quick. But brianna Stewart called out the NC double A for their lack of respect for the women's game. During March madness, she pointed out that the March madness handle tweeted out Ron Swanson gift and said when you find out there are no March madness games until Thursday mad face hashtag Sweet Sixteen there were of course, women's games. There were eight women's games on the twenty fifth. And even though the March madness handle says it is for the men's tournament and forces women to go with. The NC double A WB handle most people don't know that. And March madness is gender neutral. It is it is not about the men's tournament trademark to the men's tournament. It actually started with high school hoops. And so when even that handle if they want to say, we're bummed the men's games aren't playing go. Check out the women, that's fine. But the idea of constantly being the default. So that when John Moran has the first triple double since dream on green, and no one mentioned in the men's tournament. Because Sabrina UNESCO is has eighteen triple doubles this year and just had one in the tournament last year in multiple women have recently, again, it's not about people not understanding. It's about giving context. So that you can give props words do when people say that you NBC upsetting UVA is the first time internment history will no it's not because the Harvard women did it in the nineties. It's not that hard to say in men's tournament history. It's not that hard to add men's and how do I know? No that because women always have to do it. We always have to add women's to everything. And I think when you have schools even schools where the women's program is more successful than the men's and they always had to add the W or the women's to their handles to their social handles. They always have to add the modifier. So people know they're talking about them. It's insulting. It's insulting to say. Lady. Huskies lady giants it's insulting especially when it's something. That's a male thing. Like stallions lady stallions that makes no sense. That sounds like an unfortunate accident for the horse. But you know, what I'm saying? And again, people push back so hard on this. When I tweet about it. They say, oh, you knew what they meant. Well, why is it so difficult to add a modifier so that you say men's tournament women's tournament? Because then you're at least respecting that there is another tournament going on. And that those women are working just as hard putting in just as much time. Whether or not you want to watch them whether or not it's your priority. Give them the respect that they're that they've earned and to me we see this all the time with Little League World series. Perfect example, are they the best at what they do of anybody in the universe know, why are we interested because we tell people the stakes and we tell people the stories when we do that with women's sports for the Olympics for the World Cup for Serena Williams, when we give people the stakes and the stories people are interested.
