"I do I like that. I think it's a nice look. Do you wish it had shoulder patches? They don't have. They don't have a secondary load. You should have shoulder patches. Yes, I like a second and Joe made the same point. You and I were talking about. The nod to the Buffalo City flag on the inside of the collar. Sweet make it more noticeable. That could be your shoulder patch is fine. That's fine. I think that I just I think, but that's not their shoulders are being boring. One thing one slave around they might add shoulder patches to it next year or in the future. Who knows the problem? I would have Is that secondary logo on the helmet that I think would be great for 1/3 Jersey. If you put that on the shoulder patches now I've got buffalo on the front and a buffalo on both shoulders. And if I think about what they used to have on their shoulder patch, or like what the Panthers do right, the Panthers have that palm tree in the stick on DH. If you're the sabers you used to have to be with the sword through it, like the shoulder patch is supposed to be for a different secondary logo. Think about Seattle, right? Seattle's got the anchor on the shoulder. It's not a different s And that sabers helmet logo is too close to the crest for me to be a shoulder patch I would want. I don't know the invention of a brand new kind of logo or the bee with the sword for what would also work for me here if they were gonna have shoulder patches. No, no numbers on the front to right. That was new that we didn't bring up. No numbers on the front. Which is another reason you'd wonder, you know, could they have their own shoulder patches in there? Because if there's no number on the front, there's no captain's patch. There's a lot. It's not as busy as it was before. No shoulder. They've got numbers on the shoulders. No, no, I think I think. Okay, there's the Ah Yeah, There's the neck. Okay. Finally get a decent look at the next thing you know, you could make that more prominent Um You could put. Yeah, I don't like I just I think a logo or some a secondary logo on the shoulder patch is a nicer look, then just how it is right now. Stripes are fine. I don't have a problem with stripes. The white stripes on the sleeves right? There's white stripes on In the waste in the stripes on the waist line. Yeah, the stripes. You find the other thing I would say. I got a tweet from Bobby that says, I'm always cranky because I don't think they're close to bright enough yet wait until it's on a lit rink. All the pictures you're looking at on your computer on your phone. You know, an HD TV television screen. Do you remember when the Sabres played? I think it was like, maybe last year they played in Colorado. And the jerseys looked amazing. Colorado has different or better lighting or something. And to me, that's what it's about, like, if you if you rolled out the old Sabres jersey in person I'd look at and say like that's got a nice There's nothing wrong with that. It's a little dark, but whatever. And then you put him on TV, and it looked like the Bruins like that was my issue. I was why I would from you know how far in the living room look at me. Like, whose planes is the Bruins tonight? Oh, no, It's the sabers and they're very dark Blue. Every other team wears, so this will be lighter, and we'll see how much it pops on a television screen because that's ultimately what this comes down to. How does it look on TV? The majority of your your fans are seeing you on Television. How does it look on TV? How do the numbers look on TV? The numbers are huge, and they look great. Well, yeah, they stand to talk about outline on the whites. And then the white outline on the Blue Sea. Look fine. Every once in a while a team will rock out with some, like I think the Niners have Ah, dark, right jersey with black numbers, and you can't see who's hope. Yeah, You know the end of the day. Can I see who's on the team? Can I see who's on the ice? Can I read their numbers? And I think that the Sabres jerseys today pass a test how they look pretty good. Yeah, let me see him on the ice. As soon as I see the group of them on the ice in the blues, then I'll have a good idea. Well, they make you You know, you just you look at it. And honestly, I think you think back into the history of the franchise. It makes you think of the jersey the way it used to be. And I thought, What was that? The Theo old the Old Blues were what, from 70 to 96. I know on the on our call Yesterday, Mike Shop was pointing out that it changed a little bit. What did he say? It was the late seventies. I think maybe late seventies early eighties would seem like the shade might have changed a little bit. But if you look at this today, if you look at the pictures, you look at the jersey reveal. I think it'll make you feel about you know how you felt about 25 years of sabre jerseys, basically in the jersey that you wanted back is now back, and that's a good thing at the end of the day. Get Ah, go, too. If you want to give us call us know your reaction to the jersey reveal just in an orchard park. You're on w gr Go right ahead. Hey, guys, How are you? Good. Thank you. I think that they did a good job with that, Uh, it just it's just that old school just not Too busy of a jersey kind of like the Montreal in the Toronto than you know, and the Boston have been They just have that iconic looking jerseys that they don't really change a whole heck of a lot. And, um I really love the blue. I would never buy a White jersey but I do want them to go backto white at home just because of all the colors of the business, But I just missed that being able to go to the games and, you know, I mean, now it's just Always Blue and white, you know, and I think it would just add to that. But I think that they don't need to just stop here. They really need to do more improvements. Just, you know, improve the whole atmosphere in the arena, you know, with the Sabres dance song, and they just need to do more. I mean, they just need to do more and step it up in it and make it look like there are professional franchise that's tryingto. Compete with all these other teams that are putting out such a good product with their arena and their team. Jaggery. They've needed to do more for a while. To be totally honest, you know they've needed to do more for a long time, and it's one of the things that you know. I think if there's any Bitterness to today, but people wanted this five years ago. People wanted this four years ago three years ago T and for some reason, it was always put off. There were some that thought it was going to come at the start of the 50th anniversary season. But instead they announced it at the start of the 50th anniversary season, too kind of, you know, placate people so You know, I think the organization does have a lot of work to do. They have to do more for their fans. Whether it's in whatever way it is. Make him feel like you're listening that matters. That's important and this is one way to do it. So What's next in terms of the iconic jersey nature in the simple Jersey nature like this is the I'm I'm an idiot. So I just think things are easy, and I'm sure they're much harder than this. You could just keep this iconic jersey you're home and road forever and have a new third jersey every two years. And people will buy it..

"And Bruins fans, you know the original six because their fathers were all original six. My first game as a kid going to an NHL game was in Buffalo ice. We'll talk about what ribs showing everybody right now, but my first game as a young boy going to a hockey game was the Sabres. So I fell in love with e R. I fell in love with the colors of the team. The color's off the team. And then, coincidentally enough, ironically enough, however, you want a word it I'd get drafted by the Sabres, born and raised in ST Catharines love the Sabres. I wouldn't say loved. I loved them. You I followed Gretzky. But if I wrote it for a team, I rooted for the Sabres. I get drafted by Buffalo with the draft in Buffalo. That's time to deal. The goat had that I didn't like back in 1996 or 97. Whatever it was Because they switched out of the royal blue. I fell in love with the goat head is when I got drafted as a player. You watched him go through the finals and the uniforms. They don't just grow on you. They're pretty unbelievable. But it was a shocking change going from the old classic royal blue sabers to the goat head. It was it was drastic, but Over time. If those jerseys were amazing, and we had success in them that being said This week. Starting today, actually goodbye to the 50th season. Let's put that one in the past golden season officially comes to an end..

"All right. There we go. I love the sabers. You know me? I got my little miles was narc in there a little bit. If you see the jersey maybe you'll see my tweet. At least that'll show you the jersey You can see it on your hold on. I just tweeted. What did you What did you tweet when you're wearing a better jersey? Concerns about the roster. Did you want to be? Looks like he's looking jackets like days? Why do you do? Why do you do the things we're having fun? He did not have a holiday is not smiling with a happy like duds. No he's doing the you know, look mean it's morning football girl Face, which you know is guys doing in promotional videos. That's so anyway, The Sabres did a bang up job. Jersey looks great. They're getting a lot of positive reviews on social media. Early on, I would say that you know, there's minor things that people might sell. And I felt like the the white stripe here. I don't feel like this or, you know, you might have wanted a slightly different shade. The crest looks great. The whites look amazing. They're simple. I think they're great. And they have a helmet helmet detail, Which is that thing that they wore the buffalo with sabers written inside of it. Yes, I like that. Actually, the little yellow bus And Hopefully, that is 1/3 jersey down the line or a shoulder patch down the line because they don't have that I would like that as a shoulder patch. I think that's a nice A nice little ad. That would be a nice little ad. I should say. Yeah. There you go. What's everybody think? Cam. I'm tryingto actually got it to work here. So I'm tryingto know that sabers Winter Classic logo the savior of the Buffalo with Sabres in it is very good. And you got the neck to tail and you got a royal blue eyes. Big numbers that I could see. Yeah, I like the shade. I mean, the shade of it is, I think it's a sharper It's just It's a sharper look. What is this? Where you tell me? It pops better, right? See what else and the crest what they will no longer look like the Bruins. Even the sword handles you have the swords look better. That's the 50th anniversary. Yeah, they just look more detail than just it's supposed to just your basic flat swords on the and I'm okay nears the whites. I finally got some pictures because the Sabres treated them out. Yeah. Okay. Ah, Okay. Last one. Sorry. I want to make one. So we have our first complaint on Twitter about the jersey What? What was like That's a light Navy, not Royal. Ah, morning. I'd be all you know, is it Whatever they gave the number yesterday. Jeremy, what number Blue? Was it to 87? Wasn't it was either to 87 or to anyone. I don't remember. In that I aesthetics article so Listen like There is not actually a proprietary royal blue. It's it's ah, a couple of royal blues. It's not light Navy. It doesn't and some of the pictures have the appearance of a little bit of a mat to it Like mad it blue. Whatever it's it's fine. It's not Navy anymore. The Navy was always so dad. It was just so dark and the crust is so good. Yeah, You know, I know. Look, I know everybody is all about the color scheme. I think the crest this snazzy I mean, the crest is sharp stars. It's a little bit bigger right? They said it's a little bit bigger than what it wass. I just like the design on the buffalo with swords, and it just looks sharp. We got the color you wanted, But I just think the crest is outstanding anyway. And I'm all for the the little love. The little yellow helmet with the with buffalo inside. I think there are Yeah, I think that'd be a nice ed. It's to complain about it to be good light Navy versus This is this is royal versus light. Navy is to argue over paint swatches in the store like Come on. This is the color. It's fine. Right? Yeah. I've got unemployment. People are sending me things like people are sending me the pictures since I was having trouble opening up everything. Thank you very much. Okay? No, Someone doesn't like the stripes. Ah, See now, for the most part, it's going over, okay? Sorry. Just going through Twitter. Jeremy's reconnecting right now, you know, I think I think it's that's going over well with the media that I follow on Twitter, But for the fans, I'm only gotten More people are making fun of me and my computer skills. It's not me, man. It's not me. It's It's the computers here in the building. It's not me, but I saw the bit now that it's out. We can say that. We saw the video yesterday we had. Ah, we were allowed to see the jersey reveal video itself, so we'd have a heads up would be able to talk about it on our shows. And so I actually did see it yesterday, but it was on my phone. I was just trying to get a little view of it on my computer screen. Everybody seems to like it in terms of the media. That's all that matters in the world. Our opinions No, I didn't see Mr Cosell. I don't know, Brian. I'd have to disagree with Brian calls you. I love you, Brian. But Brian tweeted out loves the jerseys. Now we just need wide at home. I like the shade of blue. I liked the idea of we're in the blue. At home. I liked more color. I grew up. You know, where's we all did watching the white uniforms at home for everybody. I liked the reversal. I like seeing the color of the uniforms on home ice and saving the whites for the road. So don't change that. All right, folks, if you saw it, let us know we're 00 now, okay. So you can Yeah, right. Okay. I mean, even getting friends. They're tweeting texting me that it's awesome. So anyway, 80305 50. You've seen it. I'm sure you've looked at it by now. You can share your thoughts and what you think of the the New Jersey's fromthe sabers. Um Yeah. Joe your comeback? No, I'm just reading Jordan's tweet. This is what we were talking a little bit about the charging buffalo logo from the Winter Classic. Going on. The helmets is solid. Bring the logo out for a future Third jersey..

One day after Mayor Lightfoot fired off a letter to the president telling him not to send them here. The mayor says it's her understanding unnamed federal special secret agents will not be coming WCBM Steve Miller begins our coverage. You're, Lightfoot says there's been a lot of saber rattling by the Trump administration. What I understand at this point And I can't be at that is that the Trump Administration is not going to foolishly deploy unnamed agents to the streets of Chicago. As I understand it. What we will be getting our some additional resource is in the FBI, the DEA and the and unlike what happened in Portland. What we will receive is re sources that are going to plug in to the existing federal agencies that we worked with on a regular basis to help manage and suppress. Violent crime in our city. The mayor says the U. S attorney based in Chicago, John Lauch will be helping to manage. The additional resource is a big difference from what happened in Portland, she says, where the U. "A season and along the way, you know you get the major League baseball scenario where a team or a conference kind of has to shut down mid stream, So I think there's a there's an element of the sports fan. That would say, Just try. Yeah. You know you You can't fail unless you tribe which you know, say you can say what you will on any side of this, but I think rather than canceling ahead of time there is a large would say a large contingent. Try it. I just see it because the NFL's not canceling the NFL is going to try. That's one thing. I'm curious about a guess. And I didn't ask Dr Steinbrecher about this. I probably should have because I would As an outsider. I would say at the very least, you don't need that. You don't need to postpone today, do you? Could you have waited another week? Two weeks? Three weeks. I mean, as I said, What's the absolute drop dead date to get in? What a minimum eight game college football season? Could you wait until the end of September? And if that's the case, you wouldn't have to start practicing into the end of August, and you'd buy another two weeks to talk to your medical expert. So I I guess that's the one thing I would say. Did you do you have to postpone now Or can you hold off another few weeks and see what's going on or your option? Go to practice. Keep your protocols in place. Hope that you don't have any big outbreaks and you try and start the season. And if if if you get to the season and then you have outbreaks than you, you scramble and say we're done. I don't know. I'm not sure what option they would take. I'm going to talk to Marco Not coming up. Next segment, right? 9 39 38 33 Sorry, 9 30 Okay, so we've got him at 9 30 coming up at nine o'clock, the Sabres jersey reveal which is exciting. I just There's ah, a wee break on time. So we actually are on the air when the revealed takes place we could do that would reveal it on social media. So you get a video and I'm sure you get links and all that stuff. Yeah. One thing. There's an NHL rule. When you change your primary jerseys. You can't introduce 1/3 for a full year. I didn't Michelle has all these rules that they should not have. But anyway, so that means the sabers will not have 1/3 Jersey. Because they're introducing a new first and second home in a way you cannot have 1/3 right away. So there you go. You can't have 1/3 jersey. Maybe next year level. Third Jersey I saw Joe Sneaky Jody Beyonc tweet that people are going to like the jerseys. And I would agree with him that people are going to like them. Yeah, I think they're going to go over. Well, yeah, and we'll talk about it at nine. Yeah, people on waiting for these forever and It is going to find that article about I was telling you about the The Pantone blue staff in the But you know it isn't it isn't just a shade of blue. It's also how you design the jersey What are you doing with the whole jersey? Not just the Hey, we want this way. Don't like the darker blow. Okay, But what else you doing with everything from top to bottom? What else is happening on the jersey? On the sweater itself. Yup, I think they're going to be popular. That's at nine today just to give you a heads up on what's going on today that Saber said stuff going on all week today is going to say like you can still think you've got your doubts about the organization and, you know, I still think they're kind of a tire fire. It's mine but least they look nice and always. They looked better. I'm going to get the jersey of the number two center they don't have in the roster yet. The business jurors. He might be a good investment. Yeah, he's not going anywhere. He's going to be good. You know, I'm right and he's going to be good. He's he's good. I think so. Financial financial commitment good, like 150 bucks, or whatever to jerseys cost these days. I'm sorry. Haven't bought one in a while. Lux. Is it up to $200 for Jersey? Depends if you're going like I don't remember. But last year's winter Classic jersey, you know, forget the last years I bought was you're great in you're Ah Oh, lives in Jersey. And I got that as ah, That's a rip off. It wasn't an actual Joe. I got it for like, 50 bucks from a guy on the street, so that was kind of a nice deal. Oh, that You weren't supposed to know that part. So the reveal is today at 9 a.m. Through saber.

Spencer Murray Jumps Into The Podcast
"All Right Folks. Thank you and welcome back to the draws cast. I'm very excited to be with you again. I hope that you've been continuing to listen to the draws cast. We have some great interviews that we've downloaded over the last couple of weeks and have another great interview Here today with me He is the GM at the Briar Woods Country Club and a city just outside of Buffalo New York called Hamburg and his name is Spencer. Murray and Spencer and I know each other through some work that we've done together through the National Restaurant Association and we've been working on getting Spencer on the show for quite some time so Spencer Murray. Welcome to the Dr Cast. Hey thanks for having me Jeff. It's good to finally make this happened with you. I'm looking forward to to get into it with you yet. It's going to be great A previous podcast. I had a gentleman by the name of Aaron. Primo on and I called him a Whiz Kid. Because he's done quite a bit. In his years that he's been a Professional Anaconda put you into that group Not so much because your age because frankly I don't know how much or how old you are. You don't need to tell me that but I think that you've done a lot for the number of years that you've been making a living for yourself. So that's another reason why I wanted to have yon of the draws cast so So before we get your professional cry like to kind of set it up and find out a little bit of background about the people that are interview so Where did you grow up. What city specific did you grow up in? Sure so starting I'll tell you I'm thirty one so that we can get that out. Okay well then. You can be a whiz kid concerning. Yeah Yeah for me. That's a whiz kid. And I look sick. Buffalo New York in just the suburbs village called Williamsville. Just fifteen minutes outside of the city. You know. My my dad was a military guy. He was in the eighty second airborne and a he was a Jag officer as well too. So a military lawyer And my brother sister or at Fort Bragg North Carolina and then my dad moved up to buffalo to start his own private practice as an attorney so I was born here in Buffalo born and raised here and Most of my career. I spent seven years at a at a breakfast restaurant here. Most people are aware of if you've ever heard of the original Pancake House. Yeah I spent seven years as a kid started when I was first job. I worked at a P. It's a place I was fourteen years old. I made five bucks cash under the table and I they let me run the police that it was just kind of just got it at an extremely young age and learned how to deal with people then started as a dishwasher at original pancake. How listen and then throughout college and somebody's work. I Work Sides Washer. We'd orange juice plus boy creative people as host and just went through all. That was kind of my start hospitality and stuff but I love this area. I'm a diehard bills. Fan Bills Mafia. We're we're out here representing and I've lived away a couple of different places and now back. So you're part now is did you say it was the Buffalo Mafia or the bills Mafia bills? Yeah I had heard that term before. That's pretty interesting So that was going to be a question of mine if you were an a sports fan for the sports that are in the buffalo area but it sounds like it a yeah. I usually if you're from Buffalo. You're you're a big bills and the sabres kind of life around here whether we're good or bad and you say bad but we're good fans and we have a lot of fun so having been to buffalo a few times myself For those of you out there who are listening that have never been to Buffalo Niagara Falls is what would you say about twenty minutes? North of Buffalo. Was that about right? Yeah so Niagara Falls is right there. But Buffalo's got a really cool young vibe to it Especially as you get down into the city. Downtown so If they've had a really good kind of revitalization of the city over the last five six years and it's really taken this kind of artistic beautiful and just driven approach to making the city. Great you know the the food culture here is amazing. The People here are great. It's called the city good neighbors and and I love it. Here this is this is certainly western. New York is is my home and a Lotta. Yeah and it's very different Then you know people when they think of New York they think of New York City. When people think of Michigan they think of Detroit but there's so much more to the states of New York and Michigan than people realize because they just focus on that one area buffalo in western New York people. Are you say you must go to New York City all the time like seven and a half hours away from here? I can make it to Chicago in almost the same amount of time per se and I can be in West Virginian. Yeah exactly so. It's very different but I encourage. I don't work for the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce but and I'm getting no money from them for this interview but I can't tell you that it's a good place to visit if you're looking for places to go The summer or even in the wintertime. Because you you work at a country club but it also acts as a ski resort to my correct about that though so where I live. I live in a town about an hour. South of Buffalo called Eligibility York and it is awesome magical Kurowski town and there's two ski resorts that are so why I snowboard side. Love the winters play. Before this I worked I managed a restaurant in ski jump on so my busy season was winter and now the golf course. That's kind of flipped the script you know so I enjoy winter a little bit more so now but definitely work a little bit harder in the summertime now but no but we're connected I mean like I said I live in his ski town which is awesome. Actually New York has the most ski resorts I think out of any state country number wise. And it's great out here okay. That's great so now you are the GM of the Brier Country Club and we've established that you've worked at the International not the International House pancakes but the original house of pancakes. And that's kind of. Yeah and that's how you got started In your professional life How is it that you went from early management? Even though you shouldn't have been managing that original house of pancakes how did you get from there to the GM of the brier would country club? I can give you a little outline and just kinda how it went so Actually have a history degree. I played Lacrosse in college. I got a scholarship to pull les division to Ross at Franklin Pierce University I was always a history nerd. Grownups and I didn't really know what I wanted to do So my my major. I just decided to take history. I liked it. I played the cross. I thought I'd be the cool history teacher and coach at the school Had that kind of plan out but then I realized that time I kind of liked history. More a hobby rather than something. I wanted to do every day but at that point. I kind of knew I just wanted to do something involving hospitality. Entertainment an Kind of a not a shy guy and I went to small school for comparison. It just know in working in those kind of environments that the original packing house and stuff you just. I just learned how to deal with people but you had to these environments. So that's why I wanted to do so. I graduated. College became a food supervisory Internet. Six flags theme park in Springfield Massachusetts. I were a looney tunes tie and Khaki Pants and a short sleeve blue button down so you have yourself a six flags they mess and those kinds of things and I did that for a summer that I moved back home and I became assistant manager at the ritual. Pancake House at this place. You know the way you come in. It is the busiest Brecca's place all the area and it was one host which was myself still wore Khakis at that time. Couldn't get away from it. I guess And Green Pole and and everybody came in their name on a dry erase for it and that was the wait list for the thing and everybody just stare at you and here. I am this young kid and deal with all these adults different people and everybody's hungry after church. The breakfast in Hama just taught me a great deal of patients and just kind of savviness of just kind of dealing with people of all different ages and expectations
Pants on Fire: Cheerleading
"Welcome to pants on. Fire that game show where kids choose between the cheerful and spirited truth and the bad sportsmanship of lies. I'm your host Deborah Gold. Cnn in the studio today is our sound effects about Lisa which stands for live in-studio audience too but not too but that is the question. Pardon me I poured in the lady. Thank you but what is it that you are doing? I'm practicing my lines. I have an audition tomorrow for the robot. Regional Theater production of Hamlet. How that's exciting to thrilling. Indeed but to be honest I am nervous. Oh I really want to be in this play and I've been setting all the lines for weeks. I think you're going to be great and remember this above all to thine own self be true. What is that some sort of fortune cookies saying? No it's a line from no forget it. Why don't you take your mind off your audition and tell us how our game works Shaw Melody? Every ways we bring onto grownups. One is an expert the other ally and it's the job of a human to help us figure out who is too because no one gets about Aligarh better than a kid. I mean we hope right. Otherwise Radha business. What are we lying about today Deborah? We are lying about cheerleading. An activity of organized cheering chanting dancing and sometimes competing with stumps Lisa. Do you know anything about cheerleading. I'm sure had mentioned my great uncle. The electronic scoreboard was installed at a basketball court. I used to go to games and watch him keep score the cheerleaders. Were pretty good but nothing is as exciting as watching your uncle. Flip those numbers. That's real spirit. I I can appreciate that but I think you're going to really feel the spirit when we learn more about cheerleading. Now whatever okay. I say we should find out about our contestants shall we? Who might that be? I know tell us are human child contestant as an eight year old who loves everything about baseball. I'm Talkin every billy leave of it lily are you. I'm good welcome to pass on. We're so happy that you're here. You love everything about baseball. You like watching it or playing it. That's cool duva favorite baseball team. Yes the New York mets. The New York mets and dealer favorite player on the team Noah syndergaard. Mister met. Yeah I was stuffy of him only and I went to high school together. I don't know about that and tells. I hear that there is a forbidden word in your house and it starts with the letter Z. And it is perhaps a vegetable and getting close to something you don't care for Sabre Broccoli might be Zucchini. This is something you do not like correct blab not in any which way not even Zucchini ice cream. Ill Zucchini no. It's kind of fun. So can all right. We'll we want to know some more fun facts about you lilly. But we're GONNA do it the way we do it on pants on fire playing two truths and a lie. Okay so you're gonNA tell us three facts about yourself. Two of those facts will be true. One will be ally and we have to figure out which one is the lie. Are you ready? Yeah Excellent. What are your three facts on so first one is my dreams go to West Point West Point? I know absolutely everything about Harry Potter. Threes my grandparents live in Spain Spain. No not space stain. That'd be fun. Okay what do you think Lisa? Which one of those things is a lie? She said earlier that she knew everything about baseball. Now trying to come back and say she knows everything about Harry Potter. That's like a lot of that. One is the law. That's fair. I think there's one things she doesn't know about. Maybe so lily. Which one of those things is a lie Is My grandparents live Spain? So you're saying you know everything about Harry Potter. Yes okay. Let's see. Do you know what Harry Potter does? Yeah he's a wizard. She does everything she does. Okay Lisa can we get some welcome music? For OUR CHEER EXPERTS. Two four six eight khurda appreciate. I want to hear about it if it's me otherwise I don't talk about it. I just appreciate me. Our first expert is Allison Williams. Allison introduce yourself to Palo Lily. I am a CO owner of an All Star cheerleading program in Brooklyn New York. Pay Thank you very much and our second expert is Gerry mccrae Jerry. Please introduce yourself to lily. Lilly how are you? I'm Cheri and competitive cheer choreographer at Various High Schools in New York and Connecticut and they used to cheerleader twenty Peac University. Two thousand five to two thousand nine go Queenie plus enough. Let's see those are some cheerful sounds? Lisa well I always feel cheerful. It's I'd say time toads. We are going to put our experts on the hot seat while they answered lillies questions Lisa. Who should we put on the hot seat? I Jerry Maguire. Because he's going to show us the money. His name is not Jerry Maguire. But I like your thinking anyway I fine. Blue Okay Lily. What question do you have for Jerry to start? Tell me about what you do. What does a typical day in your job? Look like sure so. I've been hired to come up with competitive cheer routines at various high schools. So I go. I work with the students. I kind of envisioned the whole routine. I teach it to them and we go through all the motions and until we're ready to go. Put it into competitions clue. Yeah that's my job to. That's basically what I do. I see. Allison how did cheerleading become a sport? That's an excellent question. So initially cheerleading began in the UK in the mid eighteen hundreds and then traveled over to the US and at first there were college students who were in the audience watching a football game and the athletes weren't doing well during the football game and so the audience decided that they were going to get together and they were going to encourage their fellow athletes from there the sport grew throughout the US and then officially became competitive sport in the nineteen eighties. It's also spread throughout the entire world since then cool. This is for you. Jerry what would you say is the worst injury seen on the Mat So one time I did see a basket. Toss gone wrong person. Just didn't catch the flyer so she fell down. Hit the person who was on the base that they both kind of hit their head on the ground and Yeah so just to head. Injuries is the worst I saw. Because you know you need your you need your brain to be intact or two. That are they okay. They're they're still with us. That's good yes where I don't see bring them. He said they were with us. It's just an expression that means they're non dead. Humans are obsessed with. Who's alive who is dead going? What are you robots obsessed with? Good question we have you ever had something called Zucchini tuition. So mean Okay Lily. Quick change the subject away from that. Vegeta- this one's for both of you. Can you tell me about the jump? The herkie Chanda Hurricane Joe. Okay who wants to take that question? I'll start okay. So there was a fellow named Lauren Turkey and he founded the NCI the national cheerleading association. And he also invented the pom pom so they named jump after him because everyone loves him and he big in the world of cheerleading. And it's just this fantasy cheerleading jumping with some nice arches in aerials well to add onto that Lawrence her car. The reason why the jump was specific named after him because he attempted to do a split jump and instead bent his leg and as a result he came up with this jump. That did not exist. Which is why was named after him the hurricane.

Tampa Bay Lightning have signed defender Zach Bogosian
"Swipe up. I wonder if Zach Bogosian things he got a swipe up. He went from getting weighed by the Buffalo Sabres had his contract terminated Then a couple of days later he signed with the Tampa Bay lightning lightning for one year. One point three million dollar deal obviously going to be prorated goes from Buffalo eight points out of the wildcat to Sunny Florida and Ana Content. That not too shabby on this deal. Make sense right. They they bring in a guy for depth And just for him to have that moment of. It's it's embarrassing right when you when you do get way they didn't want to go to the AHL so everything gets terminated but then when you hear your agent say hey there's some teams interested in Tampa one of them. You just start feeling a lot better about yourself so I don't know how much he'll play. I'm sure he's going to go down. He's going to get the vibe of how that team is. They're going to see how he looks at practice. He'll get a chance. And who knows if he really is a part of this lineup and playing lots of minutes or at all when they end up getting to the playoffs and try to get back what they lost last year and then bashing first round. I don't know of ZAKPA. Gordon will be a big part of that but no matter what he's around a winning culture and he's not playing in the minor so everything's everything's good in his

Facebook's surprise hit Oculus Quest is sold out
"Offer just for talking tech listeners. So today we are at facebook in Menlo Park One hathaway and Sean and make with me they are Vr and our folks here that they oversee the oculus platform which turned out to be a big surprise smash hit at the holidays so popular. You can't get it. It's sold out for weeks but sean working hard. What MESSAGE DO YOU HAVE FOR FOLKS? Who are itching to get that headset on their head while we are making them as fast as possible also. Please stay tuned. Thanks all community for being really excited about this. We have been really a thrilled and really grateful for all the response Believe that it's about a four week. Will YOU'RE SAYING MARCH? That's right that's right. We are aiming for right now in March but We're still trying to work as fast as possible and trying to see actually how the Asia side with the current virus might or might not impact things. Let's talk about why it hits such a chord. Because you've got a a headset that did not have to be connected to anything. It sold for four hundred dollars and something happened to people that made them. I've got to get this thing. What happened yeah? It was really this coming together of a lot of things. So we've taken a lot of learnings from our previous. Headsets really tried to focus on this amazing sense of immersion content. And bring that to a new form factor. The second thing was really trying out all in one and we did this with actually our previous headset. Oculus go which is more focused on media but this was bringing a lot of the gaming side of rift combining that with the standalone form factor of Oculus go and then really trying to nail a great price point for consumers and I think all that came together in a really magical product oculus quest. We're proud of okay and games too. Because they going overseas the Games. Was there something new about the? Games in two thousand nineteen that that struck a chord or was it just the fact that you've got more well. It's both that we have more fantastic games coming to the platform but as you pointed out this is an untethered experience where you really can use that full range of motion to take advantage of these immersive games. And so you look at one of our top games on the platform beat sabre where you are effectively dancing and moving through the space to score points as these music blocks run towards you if you can turn three sixty degrees and you don't have to worry about a cord that becomes truly immersive and delightful experience. Megan your your vision is to start with games but really move into other categories. So explain how. Vr works in other media. There are so many use cases for VR. And we're so glad that the game category is strong and we can start with that but people who play games want to experience other things as well. So we're also investing in a lot of areas around media and around productivity and enterprise and one of the really exciting APPs that came out last year was National Geographic. Brought a new experience to go explore Macho Peach you and that's the type of content. Where someone who comes in for? Games is still gonNA love that and someone who wants to find those new use cases around travel or exploration. They're going to find something as well so explain how. How does it work? What are they seeing How do we explore Machu Pichu On a headset well once you put that headset on. You really do feel like you're transported to that location but you get the added layer of having information about what you're seeing you can learn in real time as you explore that space you can move through it but also see notes from famous scientists and explorers that help you understand that experience there so if you WanNa go travel there in real life which many people want to go do you have that. Added Layer of understanding. And if you can't make it there you still get a taste of what being in a place like that. Feels like. It's also talk about music. Because you're you're exploring concerts and make an jeff can go attend billy. Bush or some other concert together in the front row inexperienced together. Tell everybody about that. That's right. We have a product called oculus venues. That shows concerts sports comedy events from all around the world. People can represent themselves as avatars put on the headset. And then see each other in real time and jump in and watch those events so as you said we had billy eyelashes a performer in venues last year and it was really a special experience for people who hadn't seen her live to feel like they were there for the show with their friends but from the comfort of their own home five each other and do a letter. Well you can. You can wave. You can engage in. It is really special to feel like you're sharing that with other people in the space and back to Sean. Your vision is to wear a headset today. Where is it five years now? Yeah we ultimately want to get to a pair of glasses that lightweight. That's small form factor. You can wear your head
Kings trade Tyler Toffoli to Vancouver Canucks
"V. Los Angeles Kings are treating forward Tyler Toffoli to the Vancouver Canucks who currently set second place in the Pacific Division one point out of first of which is currently held by Edmonton Vegas is it by the way two points back calories two points back Arizona's two points back so very tight Pacific Division and the reports so far on to fully who is it a rental disguising unrestricted free agent at the end of the year high draft pick prospect and a roster player I'm interested to see if this is a first round pick I'm interested to see if this is a great prospect like a high level prospect Animage the with the roster players because one thing that we talked about in the first hour was in what could affect what the Sabres do is if the market is telling you that the there are so many teams buying and so few teams selling that people will over pay then maybe that enhances the reasons that the saber should also be in the seller's market really like if you look at savings right now always a seller Anaheim's seller the sharks are seller Detroit Ottawa New Jersey you might only have six definite sellers out of thirty one even like Chicago maybe can make an argument they should go for it because yeah there eight points back like the Sabres they've three games in hand on Arizona Minnesota has four games in hand on a plant spine there seven back Winnipeg in Nashville are only a couple of points out in the east wheeling Montreal's ring the Sabres boat maybe they don't have to sell it if you meant you had a great case for the Sabres not doing it so that almost to me that the lack of sellers makes me want the Sabres being in on even more and I'm wondering we'll see with this to fully packages but if they raise the first a good prospect in the roster player that we'll see maybe that guides even to cap out but this could just be further evidence that it's going to cost a lot to get rentals this year and if it does then I'm I never once said that I don't want botulism all I'm saying is that I don't even you even said like if Larson get you a second when you're done so you have to consider right have to it would be you know you you have to consider it but what I'm saying is I don't want these guys just being shipped off for fourth round picks at that point just keep on and ride the

G. Willow Wilson Creator of Kamala Khan
"This episode g willow Wilson, she's a comic book author, and she wrote the first marvel comic with a young Muslim woman as the hero, Kamla, Han aka MS marvel. So when I was in high school, I was kind of a giant Goth. I was the kind of insufferable kid who, who would say that they were not actually cost the Gosper, too pretentious, and that I was above that of. But Nevertheless, I wore the really dark lipstick and like the fish nuts, and the pseudo Victorian jackets, that you could find like buffalo exchange. Yeah. I mean, if you looked up Goss in the dictionary, you would have found a photo of me somewhere. Fortunately, for me around the same time, sort of the late eighties early nineties, this British wave of very literary experimental comics started coming out. And I ran Pedley became obsessed, and one of my absolute favorite series, as was the case for a lot of people was Sandman by Neil Gaiman. Which took a World War, Two era, kind of be list, super hero and turned him into this mythological dream king who goes on adventures with all kinds of different, mythical creatures and kind of deconstructs, western mythology from a really interesting point of view. So, you know, for me as like a fourteen year old fifteen year old mega Goth this was huge and revelatory. Not just the story itself, but the medium of comics. Sandman told a kind of story in comic book form that I didn't really know was possible. It was kind of my first exposure to these more literary more adult kinds of comics, when I was a kid comics were still considered very much a kids, medium, and particularly a boys medium. There were not things that were marketed at girls. There were very few books out there that were adjacent to the superhero world that were marketed to adults so to see a comic book that was very clear and open in its love for that classics Hooper hero story. And yet, at the same time talked about Shakespeare and Chaucer and you know, brought in a very Joseph Cambell kind of U of mythology. Just expanded my understanding of what could be done within the pages of a comic book. I want to take a quick break to tell you about another podcast. I worked on it's called the big one your survival guide. We walk you through what it would be, like, if a major earthquake hit Los Angeles, and we help you understand what you need to know, to survive science and journalism, and immerses you and the experience of being in a huge earthquake. Don't be scared. We help you prepare. You can find it today wherever you listen to this show. Okay. Back to tell them. I am. So as I remember, the first time I found Neil, Gaiman Sandman, I was at the apartment of a friend. Who is I think about two years older than me and had graduated. And they were already living on their own. And so we're, we're very kind of cool and grown up in my eyes. You know, the, the people who live, there had also been giant Goths. So there were clove cigarettes, which were still legal at the time sitting around, and, ashtrays, and that's kind of always what it smelled, like, which I like the smell of. But it had that kind of late nineties, Goth aesthetic, every all the windows were kind of draped in, like, JoAnn fabric in sort of dark colors. It was it was just that kind of place. This apartment had a collective library of all kinds of great stuff, and they were all reading Sandman, and they had they'd just sort of made a rule, you can read whatever you want, but don't take anything out of the apartment. But because their library was so big. I was like, nobody will notice if I just kind of sneaked these back issues out and read them on my own, so I did. And. It was one of those reading experiences that, that kind of sticks out in your mind as being something for which there is a before. And an after he read this book. It made me feel a lot less grubby as a Goth it, oh, it was a very unabashedly Goth comic. And it was kind of cool to see something with such a huge cultural impact that was kind of headlined by this very Goth guy with white makeup, an extremely scruffy kind of Robert Smith, secure hair, and it was kind of a nice affirmation that you could do the stuff. And it you'd be kind of like a mopey teenager. And yet have cool stories that meant something, and that we're all to uplifting, and we're about hope. So, you know, it was in, in that sense. Nice to see Goths doing some kind of artistic service for, for the whiter were. The kind of storyteller that he was was very influential, and then as I got a little bit older. And I I saw him a couple of times back. This is back when he used to tour. I was also very impressed with the way that he approached writing and being a writer and it being a human being. There was one instance, in which I saw him along with a bunch of other really amazing comic book writers, including, I think Peter David, at MIT just a few days, not more than a week after nine eleven. Nine eleven happened just a couple of weeks after my nineteenth birthday at the beginning of my junior year of college. And he you know, I was I was very much a college student, I was kind of going through a late adolescent. What does it all mean phase, I become interested in, in religion and started to sort of rethink what I assumed about life, and purpose and are, are sort of our place in the universe. And like everybody, I think it was it was a tremendous shock. I think particularly people of my vintage kind of elderly millennials or Xeni, all's had never known a time when the US felt really threatened. The Cold War was kind of over, there was a sense that we were separate from the rest of the world or that nothing could ever interrupt. That period of prosperity into which we had been born and so nine eleven just massively shook the foundations of our generational experience and especially being in Boston at Boston University, the feeling of ongoing threat and vulnerability was quite high. Two of the planes had taken off from Logan airport. There are all kinds of rumors circulating that, there were still a terrorist cells in the city. And so it really did feel like a war zone in many ways, and it occurred to me, just sort of walking to class that this is the reality that so much of the rest of the world faces every single day. And somehow we have managed to avoid it for this long. And now here we are just like the rest of the world. as we did for a lot of things during those weeks after nine eleven we kind of hung around to see if this event was actually going to happen because a lot of them were cancelled. And it was clear that, yes, it was going to happen. It was still going on. So we, you know, we decided okay, well, we're not we're not going to give up this, this chance to see all of these amazing authors and artists on stage at the same time. And we decided yeah, we're going to go. We're going to we're going to do it, despite the sort of aura of anxiety and dread. That was kind of hanging over everything. What was interesting to me is the Neil Gaiman was the only one in his kind of opening words who never mentioned nine eleven once everybody on stage when they got up to talk that was what they talked about. It was it was about superheroes in nine eleven. You know, I think one of the people on stage envisioned this world in which wolverine was on the plane with the terrorists, and sort of got up and, and hit them with his finger spikes. And it kind of rubbed me the wrong way because I remember thinking, you know, this is not the time to pretend that are fictional heroes are gonna do us any kind of good. It's too real. It's a nice thought that yes. If we had these amazing heroes who were always in the right place at the right time that they would have saved us, but they didn't. And Neil Gaiman got up and never mentioned nine eleven once he just sort of told a story, I don't even remember what it was that he talked about. But by the end of it for about thirty seconds. We all forgot and in a weird way, I think that prepared us to have them were serious conversation versus the. Yeah. Wolverine would I've got him if you'd have been there, which, which just felt very tried to me. The reason that that stood out to me was because it illustrated, very neatly that for a storyteller in a time of great national tragedy upheaval. The way forward is not always the way through that sometimes we assume we're in a position to attack things head on. And yes, we're gonna fight, whatever it is or or get through whatever it is. And it's, it's very easy to blur the line at that point between storytelling and, and just sort of shallow saber rattling. But what he said at that time illustrated to me that it was possible to speak in a deeper key and not to pretend that you have the answers that you need all the answers. You know, everybody was was in an incredibly tense somber. Reflective mood, and it I think brought a lot of us especially who are about my age. I was eighteen at the time into the realization that we are all mortal that, that, that nothing that we think, is a turtle is eternal, and that the world may be didn't look the way that we had been taught growing up,

"You know, we didn't get a chance to talk about that trade. And it just seemed to be another one of those deals kinda like what we saw with his brother getting dealt away from Edmonton to the Rangers is that was kind of just the change of scenery type of deal. But I I should've asked he LA should've asked EJ about that back on Monday for a little bit more details on that trade Mark says as Hank did on Monday should goal. These be expected to immediately pull off their masks when they suspect even the slightest abnormality even though they risk being injured if play continues. Thanks. Well, it's it's it's tricky. Now, if unit me you miss the ranger Senator game on Monday, Hank took a shot off the mask, and apparently a strap. Loosened. He didn't wanna play. So he threw it off. But went into happening a shot was fired. Anyway, the official is going to be the one that's gonna decide whether it was it's okay to get stoppage player. Not otherwise you're going to see Goldie just throw their mask off whenever they feel like they're interesting just needed time out that wouldn't be fair either. It's kind of like when a player gets injured. It's at the discretion of the official. Whether he let's play continually blows, the whistle. Usually if they're not in harm's way. And there's a there's a possibility of a goal. They'll let play continue. It's the same thing with the goalie. I mean, just because you throw your mask off doesn't necessarily mean they're going to blow the whistle. So you have to be very, very careful. Sam says listening to Oilers conducts game last night, I guess he was talking about the Oilers and the stars. But maybe is listening to both the Oilers and the connects to different games. I thought their radio announcer was going to spontaneously combust when mcdavid goal in overtime was waved off. All right. So it was the Oilers stars. Okay. I don't blame him. It looked to me. Like it had crossed the line. Did you agree? With the call while you're probably talking about Jack, Michael he is the play by play voice of the Evanson Oilers. And I could totally see him flipping out. All right. We've talked about this last year and a couple of years, right? See if I can explain it to you. And I'm not sure if this relieving came up, they showed us the one angle it looked like across the line to me. But again, it has to be definitive because the call on the ice was no goal was waved off. So it has to be one hundred percent conclusive that across the line. And I'm not really sure that it was Sam because that could have been snow. The other thing about it is and people have to realize this, especially if they're new to hockey, and I didn't even think about it when it was told to me by John Shannon up in sports net. Is that? The ice is a quarter inch thick the line is painted on the floor of the arena, and then is seen through the quarter inch of ice. All right. If you follow me, so if the puck is on the line if you angle away because of the difference between the surface of the ice and the surface of the line could make it seem like it's actually not on the line and show the white between the puck and the line making it think that it's a goal. I think that's taken into consideration when they review I'm not one hundred percent sure on this case that was the situation. But I think that's something that they take into consideration that it could be an optical illusion. Think about it for a second. And again, I'm no, I'm no, I'm the physics major and believe me, I don't wanna get into all that. But that's the way it was explained to me in a kind of makes sense. So I understand where you're coming from there. AJ man's does yesterday on sports net. They're talking about Henrik Lundqvist and one of them said he doesn't belong in the hall because he doesn't have a Cup..

"We had EJ on earlier that there was some in his opinion, the differences philosophically was the direction of the franchise as far as bringing some of the younger players up. It seemed that Hextall was a little too patient for the ownerships liking. I've also heard rumors that they were in on the knee Lander deal that they could've traded four Willie leat Neil Lander. But Hextall didn't wanna give up. Certain players in the organization, so. That's that's some of the stuff that you're hearing there. But I do think there's going to be a new head coach there anyway. So it probably doesn't matter Robert says, what is your choice of greatest player. Name of all time. My vote is for Morris. Titanic who played nineteen games for the Buffalo Sabres from seventy five to seventy seven with zero points. The sabers it picked him in the first round twelve overall in seventy three he turned out to be a Titanic bust. I get what you said nother. Great question off the top of my head. Those Kriva crafts off who played for the Chicago. Blackhawks I believe his first name was eager. He was eager Kriva crafts off. And the reason I love the name was because I was working at sports phone at the time and sports phone and for people that don't know what sports phone is this is back in the nineties eighties nineties when you'd have to call the number to get a score nine seven six one three one three was based out of New York. There was a New York line of Chicago line of Detroit line. And there was a nine hundred number that was for national people. So I had to do the update in Detroit and Cueva crafts off gets called up. And he scores a goal, and we're all trying to figure out how in the world do you pronounce eager Cuba crafts off? And this is before YouTube and the internet so and we we didn't have the game on television. So we had to figure it out and we eventually figured out. It was green crabs off. That's the name that I loved Ron tug. Nut is also the for for kindergarten. Humor is still a great name for sure I have to say. That that was one of my favorites as well. "Am in agreement with you in not understanding why he's rated so high when he hasn't been an elite level in recent memory like last night Curtis mcelhinney made forty eight saves but price gets the headline for making a big hit when he gave up to early goals in a loss in that hit by the way that he I forget who the hurricane that. He hit behind the net was should have been a penalty. It was a nice hit. But the energetic star for the hurricanes should get. More credit? Yeah. I don't know what it is. I mean Curtis mcelhinney is a guy that's bounced around. He's claimed off waivers on a team that plays in Carolina. And then there's carry price who who want a championship of the AHL was anointed the be the next Patrick wa for the Montreal Canadians and us lived up to expectations, and and people have to understand this. I'm not lashing out at Carey price. I'm not saying he's not a good goaltender. I would even go as far as to say that at times he plays like a great goaltender but overrated does not mean you're bad overrated means that you are overrated. And I think there are a lot of people especially up in Canada that rate him as the best colder under the National Hockey League. And I don't even think it's close peck arena is so much better goaltender than than than price. It just is. I mean, overall Henrik Lundquist is better better goal tender in his career than Carey price. I I don't care that he beats Lundquist in the regular season. And I know he missed his opportunity in the playoffs because he got hurt, but the consistency. The fact that that the the has been injured the fact that he's been on some good team. That has not made runs. I mean, there's a lot of things working against him. And I do think he's a good goal tender. But my gun they rate the goaltenders they got him like as the best goaltender in the top three. I don't think he's in the top three. I really don't change says between the Rangers and islanders which local team has surprised you the most. Well, I would probably say it's the Rangers. Although I think I thought that they could be a playoff team going in. But when they got off the such slow star. What was it two seven and one whatever it was in the first ten games. I don't think there was ever going to be a chance that they were going to be a team that would flirt with first place. So that that's kind of a surprise to me. Forever t h says, hey, Don yesterday. You said Carey price was overrated. So what is your mount Rushmore of most overrated players of all time. According to you. Wow. That's a great one. Because I'd have to really think about that overrated players. You know, what let's file this away. Let me think about it. And I'll come up with a list tomorrow. I mean, I hate to kill players like that. But you know, what's you know, when you when when you talk about a player being overrated, first of all, it's it's over it's an overrated criticism because you could be great. I think Joe Montana's overrated doesn't mean Joe, Montana's. Not great doesn't mean to Joe, Montana's. Not one of the greatest quarterbacks I ever saw. I just think that people rate him too high. That's all that it is you could still be great and be overrated. And I think that it's more of a criticism of the people that are overrating him than the actual player. So it's not that I'm really criticizing Kerry price. I'm more criticizing the people that have compliment them so high so let me try to do. Do that tomorrow? But a great one Jake says, hey, Don, I've read different things on the Hextall firing are with some saying that the flyers fired the wrong guy. What's your opinion on the organization's decision to read Hextall? Listen, they could've got rid of both of them and hacks and Hextall, and I think hack stole is going to be gone once they figure out who the next general manager is going to be unless it's somebody within the organization, then he's gonna wanna probably bring in his own guy. So I think it's only a matter of time before hassles. Fires. So it's it's really semantics here you're hearing a lot of different rumors..

And it ended up being that combination that ended up winning the game as dry Seidel finds cleft bomb with a great shot to forty two and overtime on a look like earlier comic David wanted as he gets a partial breakaway. The puck was crawling towards the line really looked to the naked eye when they showed the overhead that the puck did cross the line, but just couldn't definitively tell whether there was white between the black of the puck and the red of the goal line. Anybody wants to climb aboard and ask them questions and make some comments David says with lists talking about Leia's Sanderson playing in the fourth line around the fourth line for the Rangers. I don't want him to approach the game as a traditional fourth line center. He. Needs to play his game in order for his skills to flourish. I don't disagree that he needs to do that. The question is will playing on the fourth line a give him the minutes to do that. And be will he be flying with players to be able to sensu eight his talent level? So I agree with you. But I think sometimes you've gotta play to your strength. But also you've got to play to the strengths of who you are playing with. So I understand his philosophy is got to be impressed. So I can move up. I'm just not sure you're going to have the capability of doing that when you're playing with obviously, not MacLeod. Now, he broke his hand. "The darling deal last year just didn't seem to work out. You know, Cam Ward's now in Chicago, so looks like the hurricanes might have found their goaltender and Curtis. Mcelhinney Ottawa three unanswered goals to be Philadelphia. Four to three the final there and Phillies first game without Ron Hextall as the general manager and kind of went the same way as before. Four can't hold onto a league. Can't get quality goaltending. And that's been a major problem. Philadelphia going back, you know, a long way not just recently. But their goaltending has been obviously, a major major problem for them stole ours is the fifth goaltender to make a start. Philadelphia this year, and he faced only twenty two shots and made eighteen saves to get tagged with the loss the jersey born kid getting the loss against an Ottawa team that I mentioned to you yesterday is actually a team that's got some talent. And they will play the back end of the home at home against the Rangers. Coming up tomorrow for seven thirty start in Ottawa. How about the ducks beating the lightning in Tampa of the final score? There was three to one as demeaning ends up getting beaten, but the story and this one is Anaheim's able to come back getting two goals in the third period. Nick Ritchie gets his second. Remember, they had the play a long time this season without Ritchie and in rowdy gets his second. Both goals coming in rapid succession, four fifty one and five thirty nine. So I don't think too many people thought the ducks would walk in Tampa and beat the lightning. But. That's exactly what happened especially with the Tampa blowing lead in the third period. Nice statement for the avalanche beating the Nashville predators. Three to just proven to them that they can hang avalanche and the eleven game losing streak versus the predators. They did win a couple of games in the playoffs. Let's not forget that. But and of course, the star goals number sixteen and seventeen on the year. But it would be Jost getting the game winner five seven into overtime as national just for some reason just does not seem to be the same team at home. Nice win for the coyotes. Is they go to Minnesota and beat the while the final score. There was four to three. It would be Archibald getting the game winning goal at the midway point of period. Number two. Michael Grabner, also got his sixth of the season Archibald scored earlier in the third as well. So three unanswered goals for the coyotes and the third period to by Archibald gets a nice road win for the coyotes decline with the game of five hundred what's going on with the. Golden knights. They score six against San Jose. Now, they score eight against Chicago an eight three victory over the Chicago Blackhawks and Blackhawks just in free fall right now. I know that they're not a playoff team, and they just made a trade, and they just fired their coach, but you shouldn't allow eight goals against anybody. Especially the Golden Knights who've really struggled outside of the game against San Jose over the weekend to score goals. But this thing was over quickly. Dave Daniel car gets its first. Tuck gets his eighth Eakin get's his ninth. Three nothing in the first period. Chicago does score two of the three goals in the second. But wedged in between was Carlson. Gold is seventh. And then then it would just lights out from their Reeves. Theodore gets a couple of goals. Eeking gets a second. He's gal got ten so as Vegas trying to find themselves here a little bit late in the season. Now climb above five hundred thirteen twelve and one as the offense is starting to go. I know we've talked so much about offense in. This league. But what a fun watch between the stars and the Oilers last night and the goal the game winning goal. Didn't come until we got to overtime not a ton of shots thirty one to twenty eight favor of Evan timid. I thought it was a fun game. Lot of town to players going in this game..

"Prospects dot com the other day, and he pretty much touch base on Lawrence pilot, and Victor all of a really nice piece. They're very nice little right up a bolt those guys. And if you get the chance you go to his Twitter account, which is at p Williams NHL, and you can find the link to his article right there. And then you can also go to Lee prospects dot com, and you might be able to there as well. But we will we will get Patrick on. Once we get the chance here. So we will we'll talk to him in just a second as the sabres again facing off the Montreal Canadians this afternoon, four o'clock face off right here on WJR as the Canadians are in town. Buffalo seven wins in a row and the Canadians coming in and they're trying to continue to climb the standings during the second wildcard spot right now. And they are four to four and two four four two in the last ten games and big match over the sabres as they continue to try and climb the standings as they are currently tied as the third top team in the NHL on our excuse me, our west her hotline right now, we are joined by Patrick Williams. He is a writer for any gel dot com and also Lee prospects dot com, and he joins us right now. Patrick, thanks again for taking the time to join me this afternoon. How are you on this Friday? Good. Thanks for having me. Yeah. Absolutely. Hope you had a great thanksgiving as well yesterday. So so first off I want to just ask you right off the bat. I'm sure that you've been closely in tune to what's going on here in buffalo. Whatever your thoughts been so far with the sabres have had this season. I mean, I think the slow winding road is maybe start starting to finally show some signs of paying off for long-suffering sabres fans who've been through as I think I don't have to tell you guys up there just a really tough grind in the last number of years. And now you're starting to see some development happening. You're starting to think the biggest thing I noticed is just the sort of a different culture there. And that's something that's been, you know, right down to the level at Rochester, even getting a different mentality and different mindset. They're slowly. But surely you're starting to see some some benefits there. Yeah. It's quite amazing. Seeing the the road that some of the prospects have taken in this organization. I mean now you're starting to see a lot of Buffalo's prospects that they've been drafting all the years in ask acquiring these assets there now finally starting to make a contribution here at the professional level other. It's in the NHL NHL, and it certainly seems like they're paying. Under the new regime of Jason botulin. And even Randy Sexton in the AHL. Yeah. I think absolutely. I think one of the first mandates. I heard right off the bat when they brought in Jason Botterill and subsequently Chris Taylor to handle things in Rochester. Was you really wanted to reestablish a culture there been not a great environment there for a number of years? Just a lot of the honest problems just manifest over the year. I think lucky says you see was especially at the HR level starts to wear players down just starts to create a certain native. I guess energy around things, and it's a hard. It's a hard situation to dig all of teams try to do it. And and it doesn't work then you then you're really in a bad spot. So the fact that they're able to do it. I think fairly quickly since came in. I think speech to to what kind of job he's done. But I think the fact that he came from Pittsburgh he saw. You saw what you have to do. And you know, for all the talk of the Knockin and Crosby there, you know, what Pittsburgh it over the years to is really start to develop and it on those third. Fourth drafted type guys that. Any team needs to do especially in the salary cap era. Yeah. Patrick Williams from NHL dot com and elite prospects dot com joining me here on the west her hotline, so Patrick let's let's shift our gears here to the AmEx. And of course, the Amherst this season have been pretty darn good. They got off to a hot start in October. They've fallen off a little bit. In the month of November. But they still are atop the north division standings here with twenty four points. What have you seen from this Amherst group of players and what Chris Taylor has been able to do with this group? I mean, you you touch base with it a little bit. But I mean, Chris tailored his second year of coaching in the in the American Hockey League as a head coach. It certainly seems like he's grown as a coach. And he's got this team clicking in ways that in past years. Certainly it hasn't been going right for Rochester. I think. What you saw as a player is a lot. What you see him as a coach just a very very hard working very professional and holds his players to a high standard. You know, he's not gonna be the type that's going to be yeller screamer that doesn't obviously work in this day and age, but he he he really pushed the idea of when you're in Rochester, your focus is under Chester focuses on buffalo your focuses in somewhere else, hoping you'll get traded. You know, he wants you to be in Rochester, and your your energy and your attention there. And I think that was an issue for a lot of years, especially when when the team starts to startle, I think the attention in the in the minor leagues those young prostitutes. They start to start to see their minds drift and they start thinking. Well, why am I not up there because you know, the team startling I go up there and help or you know, I'm playing well down here. Why am I not getting a call? And I think jailers big message down. There was when you're in Rochester, you're focused. Is here. And I think. Mentality to implement, you know, especially when you have young players, and it's kind of an olive Boston other minds. So for him to be able to get that mentality in place. I think it's been a big win for him. Now second year. Now, we're starting to see some of that pay off and have a really solid foster to. I mean can't overlook that. But just I really noticed a different culture around there. You know when I've seen them this year. Yeah. And I mean looking forward at this roster. I mean right off the bat. The amateur were clicking on the power play. A lot of their success was coming on the power play. But the power play gone pretty darn cold over the past nine games, but the team continues to win and they're scoring more and even shrank they're getting more contributions from the top line on down. Just seems like that with the sabres here in buffalo. The the the attitude and the culture is is almost like a complete one eighty and even started last year when the team made the playoffs with the first time in a while. But it's it's quite the change. Isn't it? Oh, yeah. Well, they have a good base of veterans down there. You know, guys can really keep the focus on where they were needs to be dry, Chester. And I think that's a big help to start with when you're. When you're trying to reestablish or even just creating a culture number one. And then the second thing is especially in the American League early on in the season. I think if you can get your system is in place, you can be you know, you you have that talent base that they have in Rochester. You can definitely win on some talent alone in the first month. I think that's what Raj Rochester was able to do. And you know, now team start to catch up with their systems and their personnel and the roster settled down a little bit. Now. Now when has to say, you know, that's why you're seeing that our play a little bit. But they still have a deep roster that can definitely on any given night match up well against almost anyone of the league. Honestly patch Williams here on the west or hotline writer at any gel dot com, also elite prospects. All right. So Patrick the one article that I wanted to get you on here was talking about your your top ten H L Swedes and Finns emerging on the firemen. Of of course here on this list. You've got to notable Amherst players that have been red hot for them. The first one, of course, is Lawrence pilot who is up here in buffalo right now is is kind of a recall is Marcos Candela is day to day with a lower body injury. But he's been red hot in the American Hockey League goals. Three goals and nineteen assists in fifteen games. Twenty two points is tied for the tops in AHL scoring. And also just the fact that you know, he has been able to transition from Sweden to North America. And it just seemed sold seamless to him and how he's been able to transition, but just want to get your thoughts on on Lawrence pilot in where you could see him potentially developing for the long-term here. Whether it's with the sabres or in the NHL. Yeah. I mean, I was also I'm almost a little bit surprised to see him end up in Rochester in the first place. I thought you know, coming out of camp he was a kind of guys day would definitely want to look at. But I think I think it's what we're seeing here is now the right now the sabers Enron, Chester have better depth. They better options. They don't have to necessarily force players in before they're ready. And I think strictly from a talent standpoint guy like pilot, you know. Probably honestly too good today each all in terms of skill. But there's that adjustment period. And you know, he's come over from the different games. We and so much more patient game. It's a much obviously, the bigger ISIS the difference. So I think to the sabres credit. They gave him a month down there in Rochester to acclimated himself and get used to. And you know, the other thing is that pretty deep blue line. So they didn't have to push in too hard too fast, and that really helped him there. And you know, he's coming from a good programming. He was over in Sweden last year's at branch down a first round pick. They they just go tonight nights eight hundred seventy one one of the talking's over in Sweden. So he came over here, you know, as a twenty two year old. So you have some experience. Now, I think you might see him. I I won't be surprised if you by the end of the year, see him kind of a more of a mainstay in buffalo when all said and done. Yeah. And it seems like in Rochester that the key for him was to get these minutes and to get the playing time to continue to develop his game in North America. But he's he's taken that to an whole 'nother level. I mean, he's he's one of their leaders in ice time. He's playing with guy like Zach Redmond who has no been incredible potential MVP candidate in the NHL. But to see this guy. It is a little bit surprising as you mentioned. But he he certainly is a guy who's who's very unique in his own way. He's not he's not a very I wouldn't say, it's not a strong skater. But he's he's just a little different with his skating style. But he's keeps up with the play. He sees the rank at a really unique level. I mean, his hockey. I q is is very good. And it certainly shows with him being the Swedish defenseman of the year last year and just the true potential. He has in enormous America. Yeah. I think that's the first thing that really jumps out is is a smart player. You know, he's one of the things I always look for you know, at the age level, especially is how composed as defense defenseman. You know, does he panic is you know, kind of fumbling? The is he running around and see out the position or is he playing a nice calm and composed game. And I think a guy like alarms piloted does exactly that. And you can see there's there's some definite some maturity his game. He played what I think three seasons over in Sweden. On a high level. So he came in here with a good resume, and you know, the star with and then like you said you can put him into a blue line includes like Zach Redmond. And you know, some of this other experience at the matab down there. It's just a it's a big advantage. You know, he wasn't asked to bite off too much before it was ready. So it wasn't a case where he was forced early at the age level where it wasn't a case where you kept him in the NHL at the start of the season. And then he's kind of in the lineup and not getting a regular minute set. You know, he needs to get. So I think you know, to the sabres credit they really kind of handled this perfectly brought along. And I think now, you know, now, you see what he can do at the initial level. And Nope, he's not quite ready Rochester's just a short drive away. And you send them back for a little bit more time. I think I think he's on the right track. And I think could be really nice fine for for the and the other player that you mentioned in your articles, Victor Olafsson, obviously, the reigning player of the month in the NHL in just the incredible output that he had in that opening month. It's slowed up a little bit. But he obviously suffered a little bit of a lower body injury. He's now back in action. But what are your general thoughts about? All of sin and just how he has become a seventh round pick to actually being a nice jump in the long term for the sabres. Yeah. I mean, I think when I see like a seventh round pick. I think that's what it's verge would do..

"The Bruins, the sabers and fans feeling a bit of deja vu. Arcane is straightforward playing north get pucks behind the other team shoot the puck and then got to get net from cousins I found to too many times like was seeing the park. It was a disappointing in front of a crowd that was here to support us your dang rights. It's disappointing. What can we control we can control? We come tomorrow and work because we are not going through this again head coach Phil Housley following a four nothing shutout at the hands of the bees his sabers bunch had just six shots in the first period trailed throughout buffalo. Couldn't dent the twine. Even the final five minutes when they pulled Carter Hutton for the extra attacker lock named games.
