"Will bring us the she'll have the ability to fill in some of the blanks that we are miss and how about this. There's a reason why the pelicans fire they're g you, and there's another reason why magic is stepping down. Because when he takes that job. There are a lot of productive players around the league they used to be Lakers over the last couple of years. Lou Williams brook Lopez Julius Randle DeAngelis, Russell, like when these players are other places functioning you look back at the trail where did they come from to look? So that's let me out for something more to I asked you if this is a job people want. Let me ask you the other side of that question are the Lakers as a franchise in a better place or a worse place this morning than they were yesterday at this time. I think they're worse in public perception, but they have to immediately frame this as an opportunity. So I'm gonna lean better. I think this is an opportunity to do some reshaping that needs to be done. And that's that's I saw lean better. Okay. I've got Ramona this time I'm glad to have it Ramona Shelburne, of course, who covers all of this for so extraordinarily well and has been up all night following this. And I saw your tweet right after the announcement yesterday, quote, nobody on I mean, nobody had essential. Magic was going to do this today. End quote. So I know you've been working the last twelve hours on this story. What can you tell us? What happened? I mean, he just quit. Jay bus. You'd like it was he didn't talk to her. He could face her. And I talked to several of his best friends in the world. And they didn't know he was about to do this. And you know, it feels like a fairly impulsive decision. And I guess there was you know, maybe half a day of thought on his part. But this was one of the most stunning things I've seen in my career. I I walked across the street sable center, and he was still talking an hour later an hour and a half later. The game was starting everybody had to sort of play on. And I gotta be honest, man. I there there's going to be a lot of you know, Monday morning quarterbacking about what really happened. And I actually think he told you xactly why he quit, and it's still so hard to believe, but he quit because this job is hard. This job is something that you can't just charm your way through something. You can't just be Magic Johnson in and. The guy that I saw last night that look like Magic Johnson. He was great a press conference. He was smiling. He was charming the pants off of everybody who's listening who's trying to. But I haven't seen that guy for the last couple of years. You know, he he's in the shadows. And I think he lost his identity, and he didn't like that anymore. And one of the things that you know, I it really occurred to me is having known magic for most of my most of my career here in Los Angeles. This is a man who stared death in the face in nine hundred ninety one and said, I'm going to beat this. I'm gonna be the issue, and thus far has and every day after that has been his life where he just said, I'm only going to do things that I want to do and he was not having fun at this. This was a hard job. He didn't wanna do it anymore. And he just quit that may not make sense to a lot of people. It does to me to be honest with you remote. Not now. You are connected within that organization. As literally anyone what were you hearing from people around the Lakers as soon as this happened? I mean, I I had three people call me crying like that. That's how serious this was like, they didn't know. And they heard it the same way all of us heard it, and that's why I put that tweet out. But I I had literally people called me crying..

"Think you can you know, I immediately got very amped up the reaction Alina Lopez Thomas had Friday when she discovered a boot attached her front right tire. It wasn't done by the city. She says, but by a disgruntled neighbor who apparently shoveled out the spot on Linwood street in Roxbury. And he said is that your vehicle, and I said, yes, it is. He said, well, that's mine. I put that on there. And I immediately went into what gave you the right? Look gave you the authority or not showing his face since he's not facing any charges yet. But when the man allegedly confronted her it was I stumbled out the space. You can call the police if you want it's mine, I put it there and deal with it. And that's exactly did. You did call the police. Yes, I did. And because the boot caused minor damage to a Lena's car police say it could be considered vandalism and that man eventually removed. The booed after the police showed up and even they were stunned. It's five twelve it's time. Time now for sports, and here's WBZ's Joel stern as sable center. One twenty one zero seven Kyrie Irving with thirty six thousand a piece for Marcus smart, and Marcus Morris, Gordon Hayward on Irving's big night when he's done that is oh career. And so we need him to be able to do that and big moments for us. And tonight was another example of just some of the things that he can do with fifteen LeBron James Lakers highest score with thirty in less than twenty eight minutes. The Celtics close out their western swing tomorrow night against the clippers. The Bruins make nineteenth street with the Lisa point as they pull out a three two win over the senators with TD garden, David Krejci scores. "And I feel like the minute they play poorly or have a bad game like against New Orleans or Memphis. I immediately think to myself. Oh, no poor Allen like porcelain sleeper. Like what is sleep with thinking right now is he able to sleep tonight. Like what what is happening with, you know, it's funny. It's just so disappointing watching these guys play, you know, even with as bad at let's take the last two games out there in the mix, and you can't beat the pelicans. You can't beat the Memphis grizzlies. I mean, it's unfortunate because five years in a row, you're not making the postseason. No one. Really? Yes. I know there's some experts out there that predicted Lakers. Would it make the postseason? But I gotta imagine. Most people thought Lakers are going to be in that mix in the top eight is just this appointing because they finally got healthy to a certain extent. And now they're losing two teams that they have. No reason to lose to that. That's the best way for me to put it. It's disappointing to be a Laker fan because you thought they'd at least be in the postseason. Gorge? No, I was gonna sleep. If you saw would you know if he would he make of all the James worthy stuff yesterday. Because James just like the said the hell with it. He he kept it real man last night. I love it. I mean, look were these always been that way. But he's going to tell it how it is. And you don't want these guys. I mean, it happens a lot where. Individuals especially players that used to play for certain teams. They'll sugarcoat stuff and worthy doesn't do on. I love that style. And yesterday, he had some obviously some some words that were strong, but they're strong because it's a franchise that's losing against two lottery teams when they're trying to be, you know, supposedly fighting for a playoff spot. Yeah. So just to respond to your previous point the the disappointment when expectations are high, and they're not met is always going to be there. And there's no getting around that. There are a lot of explanations for what's been going on with the Lakers this year. And when I always try to square is how it what point do the explanations. And you could you could go stronger and say excuses right at what point those do those become just completely meaningless. And I don't think we're there yet. I just the it's so obvious by following the team around the country to see how the the lack of continuity, and that's been because a lot of reasons most injuries and also the way the roster was built in the off season in terms of the one year deals and the young guys. It's so clear to see how that stuff is seeping into the basketball that I'm that's why I'm still I'm still holding out this allowance for that to improve if. If LeBron brings that kind of energy that he that he did bring the Memphis, and I get a couple possessions that you can clip, but for the most part he had really good energy in that game. And you know, it didn't permeate towards the bench unit. Really? But they're sonata when I think we're we're aligned in that they that can still carry a run here. And there are some games on the on the schedule, for example, the most notably against the clippers the two that are here sable center. One home one away a game against the kings. And then even some of that like I point to the games in April that some people think in look at all man, gotta play Golden State, Utah and Portland in theory. Those teams could be either live or right or like lock to the point. Where like, you know, they just they don't have like for the Lakers. It's life and death for those teams that it'd be great to stick in the Lakers. Everybody loves to. But there's a little bit of that mental Ed show. I'm I'm yet to abandon that..

"I mean, they got a little bit of a at this point. They're a team that's better than five hundred and Ebeneezer schedule in the Lakers. And there's no reason to expect them to suddenly fall apart. But they're still pretty young you say for the case. And then what about the clippers aren't they sort of looking ahead to next year? Biggest to me the biggest between the Lakers and those teams is the Lakers, especially when they got LeBron and especially with all. Stuff over the trade deadline. I've been at all these games. They get the best game from everybody. They just do. You're getting the best shot the Atlanta that was the best that they played in a month. It I watched their three previous games guess who they lost to the next game. The knicks. The Knicks had not one in the Knicks were due the previous super layers was here at sable centers against legs. And so that's what Atlanta clear like LeBron town, right? The fan. Everyone people in the building there's more LeBron James and Mike Lincoln fans that were in the building. There was played a horrible game. But in LA to try really hard let the Lakers, but the really host two things happened there when when they're all these Laker fans in the building it makes the home players annoyed, and then they play harder. So that always ends up. So my point is this is how it's always been. But you're getting everybody's best shot in the clippers in the kings. They're just not in. So that makes a difference. Now. I will say this though there three games back. Okay. So the clippers are thirty to twenty. Seven the Lakers twenty and twenty nine the Lakers play the clippers twice they play the kings once and this Bryant goes back to you. And I may have had this conversation of practice, and you probably looked at me like I was stupid is much more important to play everywhere. You look at. Julia look at the schedule in Tacoma, the you can't lose to the hawks the Knicks and the cast you those games that you have to put in the wind calm. My argument would be it's much more important to beat the clippers the Spurs jazz. The king's like the Lakers do have those games in front of them. So I get the ones that you really need to win just harder..

"One point it was like sixteen or eighteen hours just down to four and the four networks that we launched were like Arvin of ABC family. What WBZ's to be back in the day, go ninety exa was all scripted originals for a young female millennials. Go ninety zone, which is where all our sports content like live sports and originals lived go ninety saga which was like r-virginia the scifi network and go ninety session, which was basically our version of its like advice and complex, how to baby. That's what that art and culture network would be. And all of that was driven based off of what we were seeing in terms of what users regretting to and what type of audience we had and it wasn't. It wasn't led by what we prescriptively were were thinking would be good for the user. So as you're honing the service, you're also looking for new types of content that might bring in new audiences. What led. You about maybe a year and a half ago to a animated short film of all things basically produced by and ride from the retirement poem of Kobe Bryant. This was called dear basketball, and it was through that that we first met, I guess I'm curious just how you guys became involved with that because that must have been one of your bigger content acquisitions for the service. Right? Yeah. You think about short form content which you know we were defining as episodes that are anywhere from ten minutes and length or less. You have YouTube Facebook, all of social media really super serving that audience and that short-form experience is often a lean forward experience like you. The user are trying to discover more and more around information and videos that you wanna watch on the other end of the spectrum. You have long form content, which is thirty minutes in length per episode or more. And what was interesting about what we're finding in terms of what uses were doing with long form is. You're not going to binge watch game of thrones during the week. You're going to save it for the weekend when you have time because it's a huge investment of time. And we were finding that, you know when it comes to the streaming video providers, Netflix Amazon Hulu who had more television format like shows and all of broadcasting cable who are doing more appointment base viewing. So you have to tune into watch. We found that a lot of those folks were saving that for the weekend, however, users still have this. This needs state around one being satisfied around binge-watching, but there's nothing serene that during the week, Monday through Friday. So when you think about what we were calling premium, mid form a format where episodes are anywhere from like five to twenty two minutes and lane, you can actually super serve and meet that need. And so what that means is you basically can binge watch an entire season Arkan an hour. Ninety minutes. Just examples of a similar thing that was. That fits that description was something that started on crackle and has later been absorbed by Netflix, which is this comedians in cars getting coffee every episode, six to twenty three minutes and people just plow through those. Yeah, it's incredibly satisfying to be. We'll just plow through an entire season and like only an hour has passed by and so how it relates to your basketball is. So we really wanted to own that premium mid form space where we could super serve mobile audiences in that way. And so when we started to apply that from episodic content to to feature formats, that's where we discovered your basketball. It's an animated short and we felt like that could be our for Ray into an entire film slate, and that's how we met. There are just so many great things happening there. The artistry from Glen Keane, the heartfelt story from Koby and then the music score from John Williams. It just seemed like the best trifecta to really get behind, and it was it's got have been one of the big. Or moments of the go. Ninety era for you to have been up in that sky box at the sable center at halftime. On the night, they were retiring Kobi's jersey, and you have tens of thousands of people I watching on the Jumbotron this film of yours now from ninety, dear basketball. So I think that and then probably the Oscar nomination the Oscar win. Those have to be highlights as you..

"And he knows that if I put up in a lab, hey, here's how it's going to go and Golden State. You're gonna hit this shot to win the first finals in LeBron's face the next finals. You're gonna hit the shot on the same spot on the court to basically into sweep that was go up three, nothing and everyone is still going to say, put any better than that guy. Why would he leave for that reason? And to get the thing that LeBron got when he went to Cleveland, which is the validation of title that people say is yours. The titles in Miami will different than the one in in the one in Cleveland, and if he were to win in New York or anywhere else, it'd be different. All right. We gotta take a break. We'll talk some football on the other side. What is the real reason? Jerry Jones refuses to part ways with his head coach, Nick on first thing. Good time billing viral. The city of Los Angeles was buzzing. Last night is LeBron James made his first appearance at Staples Center, but the king mind might have been in different cities. He was caught watching the Cavs game the Laker locker room ahead of the game. It was teams they want to gain before it is Dame. Watching basketball. I was watching it myself, giving it to shock interest and Thompson e settle told him team, the beaten you saw my guy right. He's like, I got some game. He's doing an internship in Cleveland. Eventually you'll be he's gotta be. He's He's. three. You see what locker LeBron has in Los Angeles so that that's Kobe's old locker. That l. Mamba go ahead, Jennifer. It looked like he's wearing Kobe's. Those short. Those are the sorts little Titus, some thirty, four snow. He's a Saint Vincent stories brought to you by the unexpected energy of Exxon Mobil. Sticking with LeBron a new chapter begins in LA kings scored. Thirteen points, three boards, fifteen minutes of play. He said before the game, it's a new beginning, a new start. It's new excitement for myself. Would you make of LeBron staple center debut last night? Chris on joy, The Lakers. Lakers fan since I was in ninth grade. So seeing another superstar come to the Lakers in now with us doing this show, we're covering. It's exciting. It's the only way it could be more excited as we were doing. The show from LA LeBron was there that's real talk. All the bosses. Y'all here you want to do something will make me let us build a watch the games. Go ahead. Okay. Sorry. Hack on my fan problem. Listen, he played. I played west stuff's Cecile. He's going to play more this preseason than any preseason that we have with because of all the new teammates to good home debut for the Lakers. The last game was in San Diego. So first time sable center crowd gets him in a Lakers uniform. All right. Klay Thompson is prepared to try and help the warriors three Petes. However, he said individually, he wants to make an NBA all defensive team and thinks he certainly should have by now. See clay can do this bitch in this last week and Kevin Durant was crying about all. We don't get any credit and everything that guy deserves some credit. He's been one of the best defenders. I think he's invaluable as far as him Draymond and what they do defensively. It gives them that edge that toughness and it's predictable eighty two games Claes going to be out there for the most part and you're gonna be getting great defense from him. I believe he's really, really underrated as a defender. I couldn't believe this when I read it because I guess I just was I was wrong. Obviously, I assume. Klay Hatton made at least all defensive team. He's never even all deep into team. It's insane. Let that he's never made an all defensive team with what his responsibility is. The way he in the past has protected Steph on that end of the court always drawing the other teams best player like no, he he is there are not ten better defenders in the world and Klay Thompson. There's a first and second team. He never made a second team. I hope he makes one this year serves it..

"There's one second of people that's going to tell you, oh, it's against them. This is our God. We want to support them. And then we were having a discussion before we came on the air like, well, wait, some of those people maybe have, maybe they just actually don't mind what he said. So how do you figure that part e you can't and if you ask them, oh, I don't. I don't believe it. I I, I don't believe in hating gay people, whatever because you can't. That's not the stuff you say out loud. It's just it's one of those deals where I, I am sympathetic of stories like this. I, I heard about haters. Thing before I saw the tweets. I was like seventeen years old. I wonder what he could have said, I I was like, I I did. It was look up. Seattle Oli was how long ago seventeen actually was for this kid. Not not that long. And then I was like, you know, if I, if everything that I did on social media followed me around and social media's of thing when I was seventeen, I'm sure there would be things on that. I do not wouldn't want people to see some sympathetic to appoint because when I was seventeen, I would not have tweeted k. k. k. I would not have tweeted the, you know, the anything like the our word at our white power, anything like that. Because even if it was my buddies being funny or it's not, I I knew I knew better than to know to the thing that could be funny. It's disturbing of an eighth grader tweets that, but some but somebody who's a senior in high school to even that for years it's it's too. It's too late and most seventeen year olds know better. I wanna go step further thirteen. No better too. Everybody should know better. That wasn't a, hey, I think you know, some people were okay with what he's doing. I think it was more Atta boy, Atta boy, good job at that. That's what a standing ovation in that been that moment isn't just a, hey, we forgive you, we, we appreciate your apology. Come on back into the family. It's okay. We all make mistakes. We love you that that felt to me when are more sinister that was far more vote for some job hater and you let them know how we feel around. He'll also we're not going to be the PC folks. We're not gonna show we know where you are and we're with you. So the question is what so to the degree that it matters. I believe that that's true, but how many people and get the gentleman was out with Mesler mardi for credit kashani cracker. Sean gentleman, who will never be appearing on our again, the way the cooking cleaning kind of late. So his his business. Third answer Kate when he started by kind of he's like, look, I don't want to. To pretend like every single person in the stadium was endorsed it. In fact, some some people are sitting down somewhere touring it all some want to wait and see how these, how this guy acts and how he follows up on it. But there were definitely some folks there that were standing in just cheering period, and I don't think that would look part of this because we live in Los Angeles. I don't think that would happen to sable center. If this holy bright Cup booed when Kobe asked to be traded in two thousand eight, the first game he came back, Kobe Bryant got booed different again, a little bit apples and oranges, whatever. I'm pretty sure he got booed on places at Colorado, you know when these things happened and you know, yeah, we didn't quite behave the same way here. I just threw get standing ovations guy hits a third home. Run of a game comes out tips as hat standing ovation, returning legends to the field standing ovation, the Iraq appearance after an injury. Sure, Iraq war veteran honored in the seventh inning stretch standing ovation. If you want to accept Josh hater back and be like, you know what? That's okay. We'll give you a pass here. You don't. What did he do there is there you deserve that Brian Travers, there is part of a of a human condition, and some people have this in some others where just empathy and some people are looking and thinking, okay, this guy just had the worst day of his life..

"That's right. It's time for the heard and I'm Chris, Bruce are with my man, Jason McIntyre with Gregg to be here. Chris, it's always going to be all with you. We got some great topics and we start off with our man changing LeBron James Healy, we're gonna start with LeBron we go start win LeBron as we do every day on the hurt when Colin cowherd of course, is hosting. But look, I think there's a new bureau in Los Angeles all know the story about how the first mirrow LeBron James was destroyed was banned is fate by faced by Kobe Bryant fan. But now there's a new winning. I gotta admit, I think it's more appropriate. I like the numeral like the old one, but I get why the fans of Kobe Bryant. We're upset about it, but I love this new one I think is great. And. The question that I have is what does LeBron James have to do to get up there on top of the Muira with Kobe Bryant Shaquille O'Neal Magic Johnson, Kareem, Abdul-Jabbar Wilt Chamberlain one quick note they left out the logo. They left out Jerry West, which was disrespectful and just wrong. I would put him in over Wilt Chamberlain, but I got no problem with will. But Jerry West should have been on there. But the bottom line is what is LeBron James have to do with the Lakers to get on top of the mural rather than standing there looking up Chris, those great all-time Lakers murals. We talk about murals Urus not a game, not a game, you, Chris. Here's what annoys me about this whole mural situation. Okay. For starters, LeBron looking up at Kobe, Shak magic. I'm fine with that because when he takes a sable center every night, he's gonna look in the rafters and see the jurors. He knows he knows on the, but what really gets me about this mural situation is it is it feels like Lakers fans are living in the past, you know who, and you know who lives in the past Chris losers guys who walk around where in their highschool, letter jackets. So you're missing about zoo. Never Yana high school. Every man when they were dominant and they were so great. Chris, I just don't sound like a hater. Well, I'm not. I'm not hating. I just don't get the mural looking back like think about this. Look at it this way. LeBron James and the Lakers are going to great that we know that they're going to be right and in life, I like forward momentum. Okay. I don't wanna look back at the past of magic and shacks on here, and it's okay forward in life. We need that forward momentum and you can't just make leaps to, okay, LeBron winter title or two or three, and then he's going to be on par with them. You need incremental gains, Chris. Think about this. I know you started working out a lot more recently, right? Start lifting at the gym seen you in there. You getting big Advil lifting says as great doesn't show, but I've been lifting since so you don't show up at put up two plates, take it all the way of slowly start with a twenty five and work your way up. This is step one of LeBron's Laker path. He's on the right path. And I think by your two or three, you get to the finals, you take down. What I believe is the greatest dynasty in NBA history being Golden State Warriors. And I think at that point, we're not gonna have any discussions about LeBron and. Of the question, did I not do that? What does LeBron James have to do to get up on top of the mural with Kobe shack, magic Karim will in a year or two now because he's in time with your later. It could be four years, which is contract is it could be five, six hour long continues to plan to retire with the takes.

"The mayor and governor a month ago deal announced in baltimore replaced lebron leaving with that mural cleveland you're being ridiculously juvenile eleven years you were the center of the sports world in america in you couldn't wait to tear that thing down he didn't have lebron the jersey he had cleveland and he still loves akron ohio still a buckeye fan still in akron fan but got to erase all the pictures off your facebook account because she left you appreciate what she gave you join the news the news this is the heard line news just replace the picture with dan gilbert flutter tear the sports for sure no one will ever forget that so speaking of lebron he was reportedly not in contact with lakers coach luke walton during his free agency decision making process with the lakers appears to have still not spoken this nugget comes from your jordan schultz he said a source close lebron's held in the bronx zero contact with lakers head coach luke walton throughout the lakers entire recruitment process the braun never met with luke at all the source says and they still have not met and walton will be james seventh fulltime nba head coach this is the pricing to me considering how thorough i'm sure lebron was with this process but my feeling on it my initial ties either the lakers made him feel very comfortable with luke walton as as he is either lebron has some sort of relationship with loser he already knows we getting or luca's no hope because it's very strange they wouldn't even speak joy this funny 'cause i i've heard a couple of people that i trust say that now you bring rondo inland stevens in jail mcgee got the lonzo situation i had a friend in the nba tell me couple of nights ago this is going to be the hardest team in the league coach this will be now the now i'm not that doesn't mean they're not going to be really good he said but you got veterans you've gotta competition at point guard you got lavar lebron and i love lebron but lebron can be maintenance he's run through coaches he didn't like spoelstra thinks a really good coach luke lives right around the corner from where i do everybody loves luke run from manhattan beach he's like a legend there this is a hard coaching job i think this is a different coaching job then coaches who have had to work with lebron in the past because this is a different era for lebron career obviously have to manage the egos and personalities that you just mentioned but there's different level of expectation there's going to be a different level of focus on this particular team that he's ever had it reminds me a little bit of spoelstra spoelstra was there before the bronner ri right and pat riley loved him lou qualms there before the bronner ives in the lakers brass loves him so they're they're not locking you know they said the lebron we want you but we're not giving you the entire franchise we're not desperate like like cleveland right i think luke walton i think it works i think luksa players coach i thought he be a really nice job they won thirty five games in the west last year and lonzo was hurt for thirty five games in branding gone for twenty five they did a pretty good and he got he made the isaiah thomas thing which bombed in cleveland worked in la i thought he denies job i think the nice job too and the difference i will say with spoelstra and this situation is there was a lot of pressure on that team and i don't think there's initial pressure on this particular team all right now so so how about this we knew a lot of bandwagon fans we're gonna come flocking la with lebron this is all time he'll turn call clipper darrell i bet you can guess what team he is a diehard fan of flippers yeah that would be the clippers it's been well documented and he is now lake your yes he said he is taking his house to the program posted a picture on twitter that lebron called him and he said it's time for a change i i mean i guess on called him but not luke walton yeah i mean clipper darrell is an la sapio no fun intended sable center but i look it's never too late to make the decision that's my opinion on and finally gregor is very to get back into the octagon his coach confirmed that negotiations from greg's return to the.
