The Truth About Fanaticism: Third Definition Revealed!
"A third definition for fanaticism. I'm going to write this up one day. By the way, you know what my column is about this week? What I spoke about in our synagogue on the Sabbath on Shabbat. The animals issue, which are very important issue. Because my beloved dog auto died last week. And I am personally amazed at the whole in the house that that has left. So I've really reflected on this and the human relationship to animals. Anyway, I don't know what that had to do with anything and the answer is it didn't. So here's a third definition. The first definition of a fanatic is all moral norms may be violated because his cause is so morally great. Second, consequences don't matter. Like the number of people who will die because of how heavy the electrical car is. And third, they are incapable of ever saying, okay, it's not a big deal. Everything is a big deal.

Why Don't You Try to Get High on Life?
"The pursuit of the adrenaline rush, or whatever the chemical description would be. It's a very big one today. I guess one way of putting my message here on this happiness hour edition. Would be that one should try to get high on life. Which I think is very possible. I mean, there was so much available that maybe I'm built differently, but I don't, I don't think it's that different. The rush that I feel with music, for example, mine is classical music, but yours may well be another type of music. That doesn't provide some sort of quote unquote high, music. A sober high is being with friends. I have a sober high every week in my Sabbath. I told you it's my secret weapon for my energy, my outlook, my joy, away a week, day a week away from everything. Just with just with people and our family, in other words, friends at your family.

Dennis Prager: America Is No Longer a Beacon of Light and Liberty
"So I found that a synagogue in Los Angeles, and I teach the Bible there every Saturday, and it's a very great source of my strength. We could talk about the Sabbath. If you feel like Charlie, and we say a prayer for America every week, we have for decades. And one of the lines is, oh, God bless the United States of America, a Beacon of light and freedom in the world. And it was maybe the hardest column I ever wrote that I have suggested to the board of my city dog. That we changed the wording. It is no longer a Beacon of light. And liberty in the world. In fact, America is the greatest exporter of toxic ideas on earth today.

City of David Foundation's Ze'ev Orenstein Shares His Story
"We're back with zeb orenstein director of international affairs at the city of David foundation based in Jerusalem. By the way, you can follow him on Twitter. And I have great to have you. I thought it'd be great for people to hear how an American Jew born in New Jersey. Ends up being a representative of a key representative of the city of David foundation doing archeological excavations as we speak and uncovering amazing stuff that we're going to talk about. But talk a little bit about your story. So I grew up in New Jersey in a traditional Jewish family and went to Jewish day school. But one of the things that wasn't focused on in the school was a significance of Israel and the modern Jewish State of Israel. And so I grew up in new a lot about the Bible and safe and things like that, but Israel not so much. After high school, I go for a gap year to study in Israel. And during a weekend Sabbath in Israel, we spent it in the old city of Jerusalem. And one of our teachers rabbi mori ruble, he gets up. And he starts speaking about his experiences growing up in the 1967 Six-Day War. Now, leading up to this war, you have the nation's Arab nations surrounding Israel. Speaking very openly in Arabic in English and every language, we are going to destroy Israel. This is 19 years after Israel's reestablishment, about two decades after the Holocaust. And they're openly saying we will destroy Israel. In Israel, they were preparing parks to be future and that's graves, expecting horrific casualties. The American Jewish community in 1967 was begging Israel to send the children to America so that in the event that Israel's destroyed, there will be a surviving remnant. And yet, not only does that not end up happening. But in 6 days, Israel, Israel, nearly quadruples in size. Returning to Jerusalem to the Temple Mount to the city of David to the old city to the mount to olives to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the stations of the cross, places like bethel, Bethlehem, check him, Shiloh, Hebron, all the places that are biblically significant in 6 days, Israel returns to all of these places in so many others.

Dennis Shares a Recent Realization
"I wanted to share with you a realization I've had this realization for so long, but it really hit home last Saturday, so Saturday is the Jewish Sabbath. And I go to synagogue each week. It's actually semi dog that I and two others founded. And it's filled with wonderful people. Non Jews tend to do some Christians who love it or watch it on Zoom, but certainly in person. As well. Anyway, about a 150 140 150 come in person about the same number of zoom. And last week, for the first time, since the lockdowns, the enforced lockdowns we violated lockdowns when we logistically possible, we don't have our own building. So we were at the mercy of others to a certain extent. So last Saturday, the city of Los Angeles was doing electrical power work on the block, which the building is located. And so we had no ability to attend synagogue. Instead, I taught zoom, and I mentioned in my talk, anyone who thinks zoom or Skype or whatever it might be. Gives you anything near the experience of in person. Is fooling themselves and and or fooling you. If you think that electronic transmission comes anywhere near in person, then it might, the only possibility is that you are electronically communicating with people whom you don't care about.

Pray the Word with David Platt
A Heart for the Hurting
"Pray the word with David Platt is a resource from radical .NET. Mark chapter three verse 5, and he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart and said to the man, stretch out your hand, he stretched it out, and his hand was restored. There's so much here in this short story at the beginning of Mark. Chapter three as Jesus enters a synagogue and a man is there with a withered hand and religious leaders are watching Jesus to see if he will heal this man's hand on the Sabbath so that they might accuse him and so Jesus says this man with the weather hand come over here and Jesus looks at the leaders and says, is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm to save life or to kill and they were completely quiet and that's when we read this verse verse 5 he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart. Think about what hardness of heart is here in this story, it's a combination really of many things, but if we were to summarize it, some of them may not believe Jesus able to heal this man, but it seems like they do and they're kind of waiting for him to do it. And in that sense, they don't believe Jesus should heal this man. In other words, they don't want. Healing people on the Sabbath and I just want to encourage us today to think about our hearts. What do we believe Jesus has power to do? And what do we want? Jesus to do. What are we longing for Jesus to do in people's lives and people who are hurting in people who are in need of healing. So God we pray that you would give us soft hearts today. Soft hearts that believe you have all power in all the universe and you are able to heal, you are able to restore you are able to help in any and every way others need. So we pray for soft hearts, the belief in your power and the desire to see your power shown on behalf of people in need around us. God, we know that all throughout today, tomorrow we will be surrounded by people who were hurting in different ways, some in ways that are obvious in some in ways that are not obvious at all. God we pray for your compassion for people and for hearts that desire to see your compassion known in people's lives in such a way that we are praying for them with faith and we are looking for opportunities to be your hands and feet to be a picture of your love and your provision in people's lives. God we pray this today on behalf of people who are hurting right around us and far from us, God we pray for the shod gope yadav people of Bangladesh over a 100,000 of them know known followers of Jesus among them. Jesus, you alone, have power to save them and we long for. We want your Salvation known among the people among the SHAD gope, yadav, people, of Bangladesh. Please hear our prayers right now for them. Cause your grace love in the gospel to be made known among them. Please send laborers to spread the gospel to them, God repay that you would help God repre that we would have soft hearts today that believe in your power and reflect your love and your compassion and your longing to see your power made known in people's lives specifically people who are hurting around us in Jesus name we pray according to Mark chapter three verse 5, amen.

A Meditiation on Mark 1:21-28 Tuesday of the First Week in 'Ordinary Time'
"For the next few moments, surrender all the cares and concerns of the stay to the lord. Say slowly, from your heart, Jesus. I trust in you. You. Take over. Become aware that he is with you. Looking upon you with love. Wanting to be heard, deep within your heart. A reading from the holy gospel, according to Mark, chapter one versus 21 through 28. Jesus and his disciples went as far as capernaum. And as soon as the Sabbath came, he went to the synagogue and began to teach. And his teaching made a deep impression on them because, unlike the scribes, he taught them with authority. In their synagogue, just then there was a man possessed by an unclean spirit and it shouted. What do you want with us Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are. The holy one of God. But Jesus said sharply, be quiet. Come out of him. And the unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions, and with a loud cry when out of him. The people were so astonished that they started asking each other what it all meant. Here is a teaching that is new, they said, and with authority behind it, he gives orders even to unclean spirits and they obey him. And his reputation rapidly spread everywhere through all the surrounding Galilean countryside. What word made this passage come alive for you? What did you sense the lord saying to you?

The Importance of Honoring the Sabbath
"Good afternoon. I've heard you talk about the Bible and God in your clips from conferences during breaks while listening. I've never heard you speak on these things live. Well, you got to listen more. As a new listener, starting the weeks leading up to that election, I heard very refreshing to hear the word of God mixed into your commentary as a fellow Christian and the me you, that's a fun word of current events, the word of God balanced all things and helps mentally, as you know, thanks for bringing the word today, unexpected to be a pastoral figure, but glad to hear your heart on this. Yeah, look, I'm not a pastor, I just, I love the Bible. And even if you don't believe the Bible is the word of God. It is unmistakably a beautiful text. And if you don't love beautiful things, then you're really misguided. There is so much complexity. There is so much to be discovered and just if you just study genesis one through 11. It will be infinitely interesting, the profundity, the fascination of it. It pale, it makes Shakespeare see like child's play and Shakespeare is probably the most beautiful, the most beautiful plays and works of art written in the English language. So I encourage you to have an open mind and to learn as much as you can and we'll share the wisdom that we learn here. Email us freedom at Charlie Kirk dot com. Someone says Charlie, I love the Bible lesson. Are you starting to write a book about the Sabbath? You know what? I promised I would. And I've made no progress on it, except I have really hard, I've clarified my thoughts on a lot of this on the Sabbath and the more I think about it and the more I actually practice the Sabbath, the more I recognize how beautiful and important it is and what a disservice it is to yourself and to your relationship with the lord, not onto the Sabbath if you're a Christian.

Strict Observance of the Sabbath Has Enriched Charlie's Life
"It's my personal belief in a hyper technological world that is increasingly chaotic and kids being confused. We have a road map. We have a gift, and it is the word of God. And you, the Jewish people, are the chosen people that are the ones to bring the Torah to the world. And look, as a Christian, I want to bring Christianity to the world, which I think is the way the truth and the life. But you know that Jesus quoted the Old Testament more than almost anything else. And the laws of the Torah will bless anybody that follow them, especially the decalogue. And what a beautiful message that we can give to an entire generation that is told the exact opposite. They're told to follow their heart. Jeremiah says the heart, your heart will lead you astray. You know, at every single turn, the truths of the Bible are under attack in every possible way. And so my heart for you guys is to just be more bold and courageous and Joshua one 9 says be strong and courageous do not be afraid and be strong and courageous. I have to get this fact checked, but I think it's basically true because I've heard a big debate. But I'm going to say it's true. Why not? 365 times in the Bible, it says do not be afraid. One for every single day. I had someone tell me though it's actually 360 seven. Okay, let's pretend, whatever. The point is, is I find too often that there is kind of a, there is a hesitation. On the behalf of some American Jews to be very proud and bold for the Torah and for, I mean, God tore Israel, which is, you know, you could call it the Jewish Trinity. That's Dennis prager's words not mine if you find it to be heretical, ask him about that. But especially when it comes to how these things could apply to your life. And you have the opposite. You should be immensely proud in more ways than one.

"Of a Scottish minister who was ministering to a Scottish congregation that on one winter's evening, instead of walking to church as he was wont to do, he determined that since the river ran by both his house and the church building and since the river was completely frozen, that he would on this evening skate to church because he liked to skate and he was a good skater and so to the great surprise of a number of the congregation who were arriving just at the time that the somewhat weary minister arrived on his skates. He shows up at the entrance to the church, clutching his skates and rather flushed, but ready to conduct the worship of the evening. This incident spawned an immediate elders meeting following the evening worship. And they met to debate whether there was a legitimacy in the minister having skated to the evening worship on the lord's day. They discussed the matter at some length, and the argument raged back and forth on the question of whether the practicality of getting to the church with relative eaves took precedence over the keeping of the Sabbath. Which of the two they argued should be the prime consideration. And then at last somebody hit on the vital question, turning to the minister of the asked, may we ask you, pastor, did you enjoy skating up the river? The inference, of course, being that pleasure and the lord's day must inevitably be mutually exclusive. Now, I come from that kind of background, and therefore wasn't surprised to discover this court by the wife of C. S. Lewis. She says the negative Sabbath of modern times seems to have originated in the bitter religious strife of the 17th century. In Scotland at that time, one poor wretch was hauled into court for smiling on the Sabbath. And then she says, considering the state of Scotland in his day, he should have been congratulated for managing to smile at all. Now, if you haven't been there, it won't strike you quite as humorously as it does me. How are we to deal with this in practical terms? I sought to gather my own personal thinking around three words, and there are these. The first word is gift. That if we think of the lord's day, first of all, and primarily in terms of a gift, then we set out immediately on the right track. Because it is clear that whatever we may do with the transference of Christian Sabbath and Sabbath and so on and all the nomenclature event. It is clear that God has provided for us this for the benefit of our bodies and our minds and our spirits. And the reason I think that so many of us are bewildered by this is on account of the fact that this gift has largely remained unopened. That we have never seriously as it were laid hold of the precious nature of this gift, understood it to be such and said, you know, we are so thankful for this wonderful day and for this wonderful provision. When you think about it, it is not uncommon to hear one another say, you know, I would just love to have a day when I just did virtually nothing at all. And then they go on to describe a day of tranquility, a day of virtual idleness, a day of reading, a day of resting, a day and a hammock, a day by a babbling brook, whatever else it is, free of all these other considerations. And every human heart can identify the 1° or another with that. But whenever somebody says, well, you know, isn't that a mystery that God has actually given to us this very notion in the gift of the lord's day, the hackers go up and they say, oh, no, no, no, we're not going to get into any kind of legal observance of these kind of days. Some who have opened the gift have said it aside rather quickly, they disregard it, and they seldom enjoy it. To the extent that it is a gift then to be enjoyed, what are the constituent elements of the gift? Or if you like, does the gift is it one of those gifts where there are it's full of tissue paper and you open up other little bits and pieces inside of it. Yes, it is. Part of the gift has to do with remembering the Bible is a tremendous amount to say about remembering. About purposeful remembering, not least of all, in relationship to this matter of the Sabbath or the lord's day. Remember it, remember what? Well, remember the way in which it was instituted. Remember it in relationship to the wonder of creation. Remember it says God to his people in exodus in light of the wonder of redemption. And just as deliverance from the bondage of Egypt, accorded, says John Murray, it sanctioned to the Sabbath, saw the resurrection in its redemptive character, yields its sanction to the sacredness of the first day of the week. Indeed, that is the way that Murray argues from Sabbath to Sunday. That is the way he argues, if you're like, from a santor day to Sunday. He says that it is by the same process that the deliverance of bond from bondage in Egypt gave sanction to the Sabbath and saw the resurrection in its redemptive dimensions give sanction to all that began to take place in post apostolic times on the lord's day. And I think it is he and not alone, but he certainly points out that God has given to us these two memorials, the lord's supper is the memorial to his death and the lord's day is the memorial to his resurrection. Another constituent part of the gift is the privilege of rest, not simply the privilege of recollection, but the privilege of rest. And not the rest of idleness. Not the rest ultimately of self indulgence. But if you're like relaxation, combined with consecration, how those two words interface in your life and experience. And within your home will be something that clearly you will have to work out for yourself. But obviously, there are other days and other holidays that provide the opportunity simply for relaxation. Simply if you like for downing tools and for the opportunities of idleness, what then is it that makes the lord's day so distinctive in this matter of rest. It is surely this element of consecration. That marks our enjoyment of Sunday as being different from any other holiday, and actually different from Saturday. What then, of the work that must inevitably take place on this day of rest. Well, throughout history, there has always been an attempt to distinguish between works of necessity and works that are simply preferential and along with that works of piety and works of mercy. We understand the difference between someone who is on call right now in the cardiothoracic unit of the Cleveland clinic and somebody else who is determined to work, this evening because they get time and a half on their job and they just want it a little bit more cash and they could equally well have worked Saturday and they chose to work Sunday instead. Theirs is not some act of mercy or a necessity. It is an act of personal preference. And they need to wrestle with this. So it's about remembering it's about resting and it's also about worshiping about worshiping. That almost

What Does It Mean to Be a Christian?
"So Sam said, what do you think about at least in the commentary he said, what do you think about Christians who are not political? My question is, are you a Christian? Let me just say this. What does it mean to be a Christian? Just give it a name. Just to say, just to say you're a Christian with a cross on your T-shirt. Is that what a Christian mean? A Christian being following Christ. And I just don't, I would never understand this. Why did Christ get murdered? Why did he get murdered? You think Christ wasn't political? You think that wasn't a political climate? He was killed because of political reasons. They didn't like what he was saying. It's not that he was doing anything wrong. They didn't like what he was saying. And people want to pass the buck because they didn't want to be responsible for his death, but they had to get rid of him. What calls do you have against this man? They had none. And they killed him anyway. When you talk about Jesus and you look at the political climate of the day, the pharisees were the governing body. They were the politicians. They were the ones going around and saying, but you still working on the Sabbath. How dare you? They were the ones who were being so dogmatic and religious and their political approach and Jesus was the one who was combating the things that they were doing because it was wrong. They were leading the people inaccurately. They were leading the people from a place of religiosity and not leading them from a place of spiritual connection with God.

And if you read those passages of the ten commandments listed and you get to the commandment on sabbath then you'll notice. There's a big difference between the two does a different skin in the motivation. In both passages of why you should observe the sabbath so an exodus. When moses says for the people of israel remember the south he says remember god's work and wreak when god made the world even created the world six days and he rested on the seventh. That's the problem flogging us and that brings us to this idea of sabbath rest because when jesus uses the would rest he says i will give you rest these tapping into a huge biblical theme. And he's bringing israel pasta and reminding israel relatively altern and contrasting community. They were actually called to be within the world. You see israel if we notice story well. They had to be rescued from a place where they will flock day in day out..

Classroom Posters at Hamilton High School Spark Controversy; LA Unified School District Issues Response
"School a high school in california where they have posters. This is the alexandra. Hamilton high school in los angeles unified school. So all william unified school district where they have posters which say want jennifer. Oh my gosh sabbath. This high school part of the la unified school district. Hamilton high has all kinds of terrible posters. Got the american flag lying on the ground. Let me read you the list of what they have. Because i don't want get this wrong. They have a palestine flag. They have a transgender flag. A pride flag. A black lives matter flag all hung prominently from the blackboard. According to some photos that were taken undercover a few parents rights groups. Got a hold of this. And they blew the whistle on this high school. The american flag while all of those other flags are hanging up in a nice prime location flung across furniture in the classroom now after they found out about this because it started to get some attention and traction on twitter with some parents groups who were thankfully appalled and this is part of the pushback in california even at the smallest level. It's coming for more parents. Getting involved with their kids classroom. Some parents groups called out l. unified. And you would think that they would say oh. We had no idea this was going on. We would remedy this situation sam. La unified school district. They knew about it and they said that they would make sure that the posters would be taken down now. Here's the problem. You've you've left out two of the posters. Oh go ahead. Sorry the police. Oh after police unleaded. Forget the america with kkk. Instead of the sea on the wall of the classrooms then on the wall of the classroom. And here's the thing and you're right. I should have said that. I because as almost more disturbing than what. They're hanging up everywhere. But here's the problem. It's not the posters. It's not the flags. It's the fact that this is who's teaching our kids. Forget about what they hang on the wall that can come up. It can come down and they can take it down now. Put a back up in two weeks. But what in the heck are they teaching our children and this is the problem with the la unified school district. And i'm gonna guess most school districts around the country that have allowed themselves to become infiltrated by the unions. The unions are now operatives for the socialist movement in this country. They are incredibly powerful in the political sphere members. Pay into this i. I've heard people on my program. And i'm going to employ people across the country if you are a teacher or if you are a person who works for a union take advantage of your rights and get out of the union if they are using the money to support political causes better not important to

Being Authentic and Present With Yourself
"Authentic in such doorway and such a practice you know it is kind of the the emotional real emotional version of of practice of seeing things as they are in honoring man and owning that and it only for me leads to more more solid foundation and more and more transparency one of the one of the images that i think is so powerful for me with with the pandemic is that you know the jewish tradition the word sabbath literally means the one day. We don't turn one thing into another. And i feel like we've been forced into a global sabah and can't manipulate. We can't even dream too far ahead. And so we've been forced our turn to see the miracle in the ordinary to see the beauty in everything and everyone and and And i think you know said if we truly thomas merton new we truly be held each other. We fall down in worship each other and so here. We are forced to to say no. The dream isn't tomorrow. We can't defer life or our best selves or ourselves. It's all right here and that was one other like a powerful thing for me with the pandemic is or did i came upon us. I was very. I had a lot of echoes from my cancer journey An particularly this moment. When i was diagnosed i like anyone else. I went to this appointment with a doctor. Who told me i had cancer and i was alarmed frightened in thought. You must have the wrong folder. Can't be me. And but then when i left that office that day the door i had come through for out. "Paolo shared his ultimate vision using stem cells to regrow or repair. The body's organs. This incredible idea that i hadn't thought previously if you could actually make that become true would be fantastic innovation in the past busa had met his share of medical luminaries through other projects oliver sacks robert gallo who co discovered hiv. Carlton gadget sick. Who'd help discover mad cow disease. What paolo macarena was doing was if it was true. Just as incredible as those discoveries i wanted to go. Bt bring this story and see who was in the wrong what actually happened was powder genius. Or was he possibly soon. After busa went to get the other side of the story he reached out to each of the doctors who had made the allegations against paolo. That i didn't want to talk to me. A very fearful and Suspicious and afraid. Eventually one of them agreed to meet with them on a cold day. In february busa walked up to the door of an apartment building in central stockholm. Dr matias chorba show buzzed him. In and he rode the elevator up to his apartment in rang the bell true to form the six foot. One american was wearing a black sabbath shirt. He invited busa into the apartment and proceeded to tell him everything had learned. He had a really hard time believing what i was saying. Car basha was making some pretty alarming. Comparisons and i started telling him stories about joseph angola. Now sweats and medical experiments or what was going on at caroline scott. I felt that maybe they were paranoid that they were afraid of things. The magnified things that perhaps exists. I thought that they would claims where a bit outlandish and we talked for like two hours. And then my wife came home and she's a blonde swedish woman presses. "On your heart dallas. When i think about graham and how he impressed on the importance of what the problem was the beginning and that was a breakdown in trust in god's universe so it would seem that as important as that issue is it should be related to the sabbath issue will and god has given us that special time to reestablish trust with us and with each other because he wants to bring us into one once again and i love that he tracers that time with this so he can reestablish or three can heal s the damage that was initially done. Know what's not to let about a god-like at yes. And so you can see how the saba ulcers not only the relationship but only the goodness. The leader beauty the deepest human longings. But how the salva shows that god is interested in preserving the freedom. And was you see the sabbath. Just as an institution it can easily become a tool of oppression. So he's not the fact that they keep the sabbath. As nancy mentioned how they need to hurry home and take the body of jesus down from the cross so that they keep guarding the edges of sabotage because that proves how good they are. See us again the puzzle to ask mirror mirror who got it right who else keeps the sabbath so faithfully as i do and you miss what god is doing in your midst that time. They just crucified the creator of the world to the cross and they missed his work of redemption in the very own made a desperate gracious lord. We want to be thankful for that gift that you gave not only us individually living in twenty-first-century in different parts of the world but to us is humanity cooperatively at the creation of this world. And how you come again. And again with the work of liberation with the work of salvation freeing us from whatever binds us controls us with its of our own making our own past or other people who would like to use meaning well religion instructions coming from hewlett certain point of time or certain culture to create a new form of slavery and so we pray that the coming days weeks. Somehow we once again could see your character and see what the sabbath speaks about you and how you run this universe so that we can be drawn to admire you to serve you too because of fear guilt but because of the great liberation and all that help us not forget those around us so that they are blessed as well. Because that's why you put us into this world so that other people would be better off because we walked on this planet because of who you are and so we thank you for this in. Jesus name amen..

"That god has outdoor. I just wanted to perceive the discussion that we are going through particularly for me. When i look at maybe my cultural upbringing and all that uses a level of understanding whether a release I want to make you understand that. I come from a coach in vitamins. Way more so fast. You still fussing about the specifics in the details of what to do who and what not do we That also is a lot of ideas may be from an enjoyed for example in the little quotations little things that she says with. We take out of context incandescent. But we get all these. Traditions is things that we have to do. We have to do here in today. I'm getting this niger teacher. What is more important. I think we've just spoken of his wicks. I'm not sure that we also mentioned matthew trophies fife wages essays all if you not in the low on this about the priests in the timbale profane the in Soul will not going to comment on that. I wanted to make you understand out. She called it is in my country in maybe warsaw. Africa wave of people experience Better than Greta people's web-based ends will let me just cite one example the nice dope boy example. We have kitchens situations maybe like universities in on suburbs. We may have maybe if security. Dekalb money vacates once. We step three of these arguments up with a Institutions is north sydney is opposed to security at may be that being a bank or any of a ud so we always these arguments in the always draw these tissues without from the bible with from spirit of prophecy with from wherever in. We miss this beautiful view. Which i think. I'm hearing Which is what is more important. That's what is essential when we get these essential. I believe like. I think michigan dow we think the bible is justice With a puzzle or do help us navigate through the maze in specific situations in three spirit. You make us understand what is appropriate to boot in what is not appropriate with. Thank you very much. Yeah yeah thank you and thank you for. It's an important aspect and they hope that you can see that it once you move beyond the bible the puzzle how helpful and useful that discussion can be so go tests in deuteronomy to the children of israel. These things are so important that you need to buy into your hands tied them to your forehead. Sadr remember this story. Remember what i did for you. And then fifteen hundred years later he comes and that's what he finds them to do tying them to their hands tying them to their forehead and immediately says you need to love your goal not only with all your zeal with your soul but he adds fuel mind because you forgot to ask. What's the purpose of it. What was good intending when he said this. And if you don't do that you are going to major in minors. You are going to see the bible as a puzzle. You have sold it now. And now the only discussion is what do we do with those security guards on sabas even the slaves are supposed to be off. Maybe we should give a day off to the security guards. Because god will take care of us now. There was a discussion in maccabean about this and they learned the lesson that no but did not take care of them and so the enemies attack them on sub us and they refused to defend themselves because it sabas the lord will do each. Go do it so you are in the danger of completely missing. The bigger picture and god repeats this periodically you repeated in. We had the leviticus twenty three in deuteronomy than he repeats. It is zaira repeated in john with the gospels. You are missing. The bigger story of what god is doing. In our time you can so concentrate on a minor details. Yes the work aspect of the come on many important it's there but as it was mentioned sabbath is the first full day of adam and eve so they are not tired yet. The work is not the most important aspect of the sabbath. Keeping is the connection. The relationship with god and you can blow the work out of proportion so that you lose the jewel and you don't see that throwback play plano that. Chris did not rest because he was tired. He like a masterful lawyer rested his case for the universality creation week. Yes okay. so let's conclude terry exodus thirty one. Thirteen you yourself are to speak to the israelites. You shall keep my sabbath for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations given an order that you may know that i the lord sanctify. You were sixteen. Therefore the israelites shall keep the sabbath observing the sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant. Okay so what is he. That is a sign will be joe evangelistic meetings when the sabbath issue comes up. Oftentimes the pastor will use the sabbath commandment and say that the signet of god his authority over creation his ownership of this world and we in it is in the sabbath commandment. But i think that there's another take on that. And that is from this discussion. On the sabbath school s an i came to conclude that the sabbath is like a signet stamped on us and we're being recreated. The image of god is being stamped on us through sabbath observance through participation in what god is doing because he created us in his image both males and females imagine that in the asian world to say that not only kings but even women are created in the image of the day and then the first very first day he spent with them as a sign of what he's doing for them and the texas the to know that i am the lord who sanctifies who is at work was at work because of exodus so he got them out of slavery and jesus says and the father still at work. God has not shut down the workshop. He's still ed work today. And if you don't pay attention to what he's doing today in your time in your time zone in your geographical location you are going to miss an important aspect of what god is doing in your time in your place in your own life breath. What's.

"His character to the rest of the union s and bobby jones maria on the chad that we use guilt and fear as a means of control. Because it's easy to control somebody else's behavior that way but the sabbath a reminder that god doesn't use that he doesn't use guilt or fear to control us. How does god remind them of the value of the oxygen dunk as gary mentioned if they can perform better ultimately you're going to benefit from it. They're seen as tools that can be easily replaced. But god says no. They need to be blessed as well. And the slave born in your household or the foreigner living among you. They need to be refreshed. Any imagination world this concept that you are there to bless foreigners somebody who's not of your tribe that you need to be kind to your animals you need to be kind to the slaves. The law of the sabbath is going to tell you that you have to release them after a while they cannot be perpetual lifetime slavery different nation different type of community. John i read accidents twenty thirty. Your interest is two different from legal hitter. It is all about community and celebrating community and being at one with kenji. Not just keeping the okay. Bobbie jo this. Discussion is basically looking at the difference between liberty and slavery and the thought came to me that the very essence of liberty is rest because people who are not at liberty cannot rast. It's only the free that can rest. And it's amazing. Because in the garden of eden basically satan's argument or accusation against god. To eve was that they were enslaved that they were not at liberty to make their choices that god was withholding something from them and yet when we look at the sabbath it seems like the sabbath in absence is the sharpest argument against the claim that we're enslaved to god and i think that that's why it would be most offensive to jesus. The creator of the sap is when we keep it in a legalistic way because where then becoming slaves again. He has liberated us to this rest. And yet we enslave ourselves or others by a misunderstanding or mis keeping of it while said but we joe terry is eight fifty eight or see store in three how god remind these people. Both little prophet isaiah. What is the true purpose and nature and agenda goats agenda for sabbath keeping yet day after day they seek me and delight to know my ways as if they were a nation that practiced righteousness and did not forsake the ordinance of their god they ask of me righteous judgments they delight to draw near to god. Why do we fast. But you do not see why humble ourselves but you do not notice look you serve your own interest on your fast day and oppress all your workers so you have turned your religion into a way of self serving and then surprised that the outcome is not what you expected and then comes verse thirteen and fourteen if you refrain from trampling the sabbath and pursuing your own interest on my holy day if you call the sabbath delight and a holy day of the lord honorable if you honor it not going your own ways serving your own interests or pursuing your own affairs then you shall take delight in the lord and i will make you ride upon the heights of the earth i will feed you with a heritage of your ancestor jacob for the mouth of the lord has spoken us if you read over six and seven is not this the fast that i choose to loose the bonds of injustice to undo the throngs of the yoke to let the oppressed go free and to break every yoke is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house when you see the naked to cover them and not to hide yourself from your own kin so it's to turn attention away from yourself to others now in light of this. Let's go to john five now. You know the story from percy's one to fourteen about jesus finding near the sheep gate in the place. Bethesda house of mercy where there was no mercy and everybody's looking at the water expecting the solution from the pool and jesus turns their attention to himself and says he's the one who brings mercy into a place where there's no mercy when he has the men do still hope to be. Well he said no. Because i have no man i have. No one can take me to the pool so that i am healed. And jesus shows him. The solution does not come from the tradition. Our old horror holy connected with something supernatural which might not have been supernatural. Might not have been an angel the lord. Interestingly that's what people around the believed but it's questionable whether that was the source of healing because other places the gospel say that never has been the eyes of lined opened et cetera et cetera. But jesus says in verse. Eight due to set to the man get up. Pick up your mat and walk doin. The man was cured. He picked up these matt and walked and the day on which this took place will sabbath were standing so the jewish leaders said the man who had been healed. It is the saab. The law forbids you to carry your match and the man the best he can say it's not me. The man who made me well said to me. Pick up your mat and walk so bill with him. Not with me or sixteen their for the jews started persecuting jesus because he was doing such things on the sabbath and how does she respond. How did he defend himself. But jesus hansard them. My father is still working. And i also am working for this reason. The jews were seeking all the more to kill him because he was not only breaking the sabbath but also calling god his own father thereby making himself equal to god so he didn't help him sell the defense legal so into greater trouble because they know that he's not equal with god and of course in john the narrator helps you to see things which are behind the scene so that you would not know otherwise insult from the prologue. You already know what they don't know and so you know they are on now. What's the meaning of this guy. What happens that he.

"Humanity has ever seen joe when the israelites came back. Out of babylon they were turned. Didn't they establish quite a rigid form of sabbath. Keeping it was as though they wanted to. So safeguard themselves against going back into slavery that they made determinations that they would keep the sabbath rigidly and. I wonder if in our broken human nature. Sometimes we do that where we want that. Promise of a relationship. With god we come out of our sinful past and we just set this determination that i'm gonna do it right so that i don't get it wrong and rather than fostering the relationship somehow we go awry in that determination. Yep okay so lot. Before the opportunity that was very loose. Sabbath keeping remembers the reform of just cya that suddenly discover a portion of the low in the temple and from there. They discovered a actually. We are supposed to keep our fourth of july. You know our of independence to keep the passover. Now that's once a year that they remember how they have been established as a nation. Now if they don't keep the passover once a year imagine how much they kept this up every week and so the prophet remind them when they go into baloney and captivity. That part of the reason is their treatment of sabas and oppression of we does in orphans and poor. People threats Keeping left a lot to be desired so now they are going to learn the lesson and we had the quarter on. Ezra and nehemiah. We have covered. That's and then you come. After a few centuries to the times of jesus and we will explorer Of jump fiber later john thing five boil down to its essence. The confusing has come from the very beginning. We have misjudged guard. God is being misrepresented and we have believed the line but as being perpetrated so it has something to do with the lie about how we perceive god michael. Your comments about house. Gerard harm lij strict adherence to the staff of usually by their parents. It's not restricted to seventh day. Adventist church. I remember young gile all. You do not miss mass. That's a terrible terrible soon. You must go. And i can remember when i this mess. Even though it was excusable. I felt very guilty about that and it took me years. Shake myself that notion in rather think really what it is for is for worship of god who commune with god. Thank god for this great gift. I have called right. Those kinds of messages were left out but the hearing today in this church a great gift. Thank you and of course. It's not specific to adventist. It's a typical example of the human nature. But when we speak about advent isn't you will have a good examples of that in area and movement of those who consider this important. So this is nancy wearing canada and just a question. Wasn't that a huge demonstration. In god's great controversy here controversy that those very religious increasingly vital leaders of israel at the time of the crucifixion. They answered very very important questions about the great controversy debt were answered in gacemi got answered the other two i. Didn't he demonstrate that out of fear to obey. God from fear causes the most rebellious. He's never had worst enemies in the history of mankind and they were sabbath keepers. And it's just shocking. How they had to get our lord off the cross to keep their sabbath. It was so screwed up. And it's a lesson that help bring peace for the rest of eternity but it took him thousands of years to demonstrate that kind of obedience and sabbath wasn't means of it the misuse of it. Yes you Through that in the section we speak about sabbath is assigned ashley fuller says in the chats. The meaning of sabbath deteriorates quickly when you obey out of fear instead of love and gratitude. Thank you nancy and greetings to canada. Zip rick i've had some friends who were from the jewish persuasion during law school and sense and i felt kind of split in my jewish friends to there was one jewish scholar. I spent a lotta time with during law school. We're working on comparative mediation systems and it was a real scholar. He it's like he had these rules down. It was amazing how much he knew about uday law. I had no idea there was so much judeh law till i spent time with him over about half a year. Then there's some other jewish scholars. I've listened to they'll talk about the beauty of the sabbath and things like that so it seems like even and judaism. There is a little bit of a slit between legalism in the non legalism. So i just felt that kind of interesting. I haven't spent much time with him. So i don't know which is the strong dominant trend. But it's nice to think that there's some of them that are kind of recapturing the non legalistic view. Sure sure okay as you have nowadays. We haven't read the text the edge sold. Let's go to exodus. Nineteen six but you shall be for me a priestly kingdom and a holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to the israelites. So the reason why. I'm bringing out of egypt that you are a group of priests and kings so you will function as mediators of the knowledge of who. That's the priesthood. And kings you will see yourself this partners with god who is the king of the universe so the purpose of liberation of this freedom is so that the knowledge about god is extended to others. Remember abraham blessing that god called them in order to be a blessing. So you all families. All the nations of the earth will be blessed in genesis twelve. Now let's read exodus. Twenty three twelve suggests as stopping from work can easily be blown out of proportion as i remember it. Takes says seven days the sabbath need thou shalt do no work but god allows people to determine what work is but you can be so obsessed with not doing the work that you blow it out of proportion so the idea. What do i get out of. Sabas can be blown out of all proportion and so let's see what balancing act glowed provided for a fallen human nature so that sabbath is not all about me me me me will. Do i get out of this. So exodus twenty three dwell for six days. You shall do your work but on the seventh day you shall rest so that your office and your donkey may have relief and your home. Born slave and the resident alien may be refreshed. So what is helping us here to see to make sure that the saba does not become about me me will. Do i get out of this. Which is typical self centered perspective of a fallen human being what is in it for me wasn't the reminder gerry or even mack could be a neat attitude because of the oxen arrested. The slaves arrested. Whatever it is they can do more of the rest of the week for me so weakened even distort that into its for made me sure but the reminder that even ox and a donkey needs to be blessed and they need the rest and that the slaves born in your household hobbies that connected with israelite story is remember they are the slaves in egypt and god is reminding them. Did you like it three times. I was thinking about Be when god says remember that you were slaves in egypt.

"It and god didn't intend for it to be that way in the remembering. Is it possible that when my relationship with god is broken. I also find myself not being able to remember the sabbath. I become enslaved to sin just as israel in its slavery wasn't able to remember in my slavery to send to also find myself unable to really remember the sap. Do i find myself. Just settling for the forms of the sabbath rather than their relationship. No good questions derry. I think you asked. What do we see. That might be different in the deuteronomy version. I'm looking at the deuteronomy version. It says i'm cutting in in the middle of the sentence so that your male and female slave may rest as well as you. I see that god reminding them that. Everyone was a value because the slaves were diminished in value. They were demeaned and they were not considered important as human beings at all but they had any rights or anything. And i see that part of that. Is god reminding us that everyone counts. Everyone is a value goods and a very important and we will go into that. In tuesday's lesson exodus twenty three and isaiah fifty eight. So thank you very much around. Sixty tonnes dad. I think it's his book. The lost meaning of the seven day. He says the seventh day must be seen as the launching pad for the most exceptional an ambitious project of social justice in the ancient world so on the sabbath everyone's equal and that's so cool. Another book by kenneth strand says this is the sabbath scripture on historian. He's the editorial that's important volume. It says in the sabbath. God comes to all observing men. Whatever their rank and the jew links the creation of the world with man's freedom or great. Thank you john. The concept mentioned in the north zone. We just undermining the whole planet by in descending relationship. The gordon once have children and so this is so important that we need the saab to be reminded of the value that we have. Otherwise we lose sight of the purpose of the sabathia. Not for god but for us to be reminded of the value that in spite of that slavery in spite of that addiction we have not lost value. In god's sight so for god. The value of human being is more important than he's performance. He's behavior because the behavior can either dry into desparation or can drive into pride. Because you feel you have somehow made and deuteronomy five is important that god is against any type of slavery any type of addiction and he wants freedom for us. He wants to provide that freedom. Any type of oppression. It's not only farrow. Who is this taskmaster. Who is driving them down into dust increasing the glaucous that they cannot meet unreasonable taskmaster so our value is not taken or determined by our performance or our production in most all of relationships that we are on this planet. If you don't perform you are going to be in trouble whether it's your employer even close relationships within family if you constantly underperforming or hurting other people you all going to be trouble in that relationship and so we need these reminder of our value. Gabe joe is it not true sometimes that when you establish with a person their value you can actually stroke their pride in a bad way but god and the sabbath checks are pride because basically he says in the sabbath commandment when you keep the sabbath. You're not to harm others. You're not to oppress your animals your children a servant or a slave or a stranger. That's in your midst. So god really shows us our value but he does so in such a balanced way that no one ought to become the oppressor of another. Yes so remember the rule. The hurt people hurt people. And because we have been in the slavery of seen and any other kind of slavery the result is going to be passing on the hurt to other people. and that's why we need periodic reminder of on value in god's eyes. i wonder whether the second interpretation of sabbath remembering might be indication that might even broader application. I've been reading some of the stories about crisis the gospels and for example. He healed all kinds of people on the sabbath. And i wonder when he meets them. I doubt whether he's gonna say remember the exodus or even remember the creation. I suspect what he's gonna do. Member the sabbath that he'll you and then there's a rule cod personal touch and i wonder whether for all of us for the he might as he talks to us. Certainly creation is going to be important. Think i wonder whether it might be much ended in. He will recall things that have happened to us especially in a special way that happened maybe on sabbath in ways that we might have especially enjoyed something with him or something special might have happened in our relationship with him and i wonder whether it might be much more personnel kind of thing in which he might say remember all kinds of things to millions of people because he's had the special relationships with everyone that he's gonna say so. The version indoor tournament five reminds us of the value of freedom. How important that is for god. In so that god doesn't want our performance or our lives situation which might be less than ideal to determine our own value. How we see ourselves on ice any any type of slavery so the new system is going to connected with the slavery from any type of addiction or any type of oppression. Remember how Three is going to talk about the curse. That's seen brought how that curse is reversed because of the work of jesus on the cross and so in the community of christ followers of christ all this and equality is removed. We live in new type in new york in new type of community new type of relationship. Now here's an important aspect. And i mentioned it in the study notes number five Was given to help us. Remember the racial ethnic. Oh socioeconomic and gender differences is relevant when it comes to being created in the image of god and that we all are objects his law regardless of racial ethnic socioeconomic or gender differences. How come the suburbs was connected with. The worst of the most oppressive forms of legally how come that dude as that head the sabbath originally and then christianity that headed at its beginning or advent disney that resurrected in nineteenth century. You still have those racial ethnic socioeconomic. Generally francie send. Somehow the message doesn't get through. Where do you find the greatest east of all time in first century. Judaism you talk to any group of former advantageous or disgruntled adventists and you will hear heart wrenching. Stories of what their childhood meant to them because somebody was just abusing them spiritually abusing them because they did not keep the sabbath properly. They did this or that and they have a painful memories of their upbringing of their childhood because the sabbath became such a burden that they didn't know how to deal with it. They rebelled against. It threw it away to how come if both exodus twenty and deuteronomy five connect the sabbath with creation and freedom from slavery. That sob is connected. With some of the worst forms of legalism..

"It does to us or is it a slightly different meaning. There is a connection that remembering is the way how you participated in worship. So you'll remember the mighty acts of god. I resorted indicated how remembering the relationship is a way of reviving relationship. So zakhar is one of the key words of the old testament to worship you remember it by participating in festivals. You remember by singing songs. Mariane mentioning the shot so one of the things because of the pandemic that she's missing that you don't have the communal experience of singing together. I would only add that remembering in. Hebrew is strongly action oriented. Just something that clicks in your brain but it triggers action whether obedience whether worship whether ethical treatment of others things like that and sabbath is one way of remembering by involving oneself and sabbath activities. One is remembering the things that god has done. So the whole idea of worship is to remember what god has done and that what god has done is a reflection of his character on said. Thank you so The bible says that he's did not remember their lord didn't mean that they had to memory problems they could not remember. What's the name of the goal that we are serving Mention i welcome from zimbabwe. I hope everybody read the article in advantage today about graham maxwell and the impact on he life and ministry so nice to have you thank you very much. I'm not so confident. Who make micrometer now. I just listed by just allow me to maybe appreciate what i think is the significance of this with remember while this guy is clearly understood that the original wear men's that we need to participate is a call to action through maybe worship in any other things that we need to do now just looking at my hebrew additionally i'm just a layman the alka yom writing in english remember recall cold for mine so when it said cold mind out of thoughts. We also need to appreciate that this remembering that is an appreciation of what this about spins full on because my experiences in is we maintain emphasize the externals Doing this or being that by now when we wound up How this to be or what this about stints full. We may be doing it for the whole reason. Seoul i'm with. This is accurate in the hebrew as well as in the english. When god says remember it's about the give it only out if it also means that Astro keep it only. We need to also come from a foundation appreciation of what this about his own up out. That's the only way we can keep it holy from that position. And you think you're going to in the sabbath being linked to creation if you read the story it's adamant eve's i like first full day. Adam is created on friday so is eve and then their first full day god just spends with them and then gods like do this every week and so it's a big arrow that points towards y we were created and that was for relationship with our maker which is in direct opposition to the pagan view that we were created as slaves to the gods. So i think it's a beautiful thing that really points towards the type of god that we worship in. How did he is in his desire for our happiness. Wellbeing communal relationship. Thank you so. As arthur also reminded us remember is connecting us with the preceding story seeing how are stories connected with the biggest story of god it has said many times disclosure us the only way to redeem a broken story is to embed it in a larger story and some of these goods attempt to do that for us. We did not read the text in the fourth commandment in exodus twenty. Because i assume everybody knows that tax laws by heart in this group what it means to work the garden and to keep it or take care of it which are interestingly in leviticus the two verbs associated with the work of the priests which jesus says on sabas. They do double portion of the work. I have looked under the number three in your study notes. How the bible turns around completely the world view of the time so in pagan religions people fashion idols and images for the temples and places of worship and then they worship them but in the biblical thinking god fashion humans in his image and put him in the temple. 'cause the garden of eden is presented in the language of a temple genesis one and two and then he invites them to be his partners will do the priestly work in the immediate environment in which are put but the important part of this exodus. Twenty god connects sabas with the preceding story with the immediate preceding story of israelites and the story of creation. And only when you see yourself as part of the bigger image you see the purpose of the meaning that it gives to your mundane life and the greatness of days. I'll talk is germans would say you know everyday up and down things that happened right in deuteronomy five. There's another reason given for keeping the service if you have a nineteenth century mentality it's going to be very disconcerting to you because how come the one thing is mentioned in exodus twenty and then something else is mentioned in deuteronomy five so which one is it. Is it either this or that and you are going to find it very disturbing rubbing you of inner peace because now you don't know which one is supposed to be. Is there anything about due to a five and the version of the commandments. There that enhances our understanding and as you can see the lesson for monday as the heading celebrating freedom. How is connecting the sabbath. Their immediate boss story in gentlema-. Five bobbie jo. Save your remarked for the section so.

"Iris. If i were to speak about the question i raised. I noticed that. I am using the sabbath hours more intentionally to reach out to people calling them up checking in how they had to wing and just having some meaningful interaction with others. That which normally organically happens at church does not happen anymore. By default you have to be intentional to stay in touch. And to connect with other and i think sabbath calls us to connect with god of course but it also calls us to connect with others and i think part of the crisis that the world is experiencing right now is bet in a crisis we cannot stand together in the way we used to humans a usually on a crisis huddled together and weather the crisis together but with forced into isolation from each other. That's a huge attack on what it means to be human and i think there's a call for us to be intentional about our network of people that we know to look out for each other to find regular times of connecting and i think sabbath allows us to do that because we're not busy with doing sabbath the usual way. I can watch the sermon in the evening. Or so. But i can reach out. I can use the sabbath hours for that purpose to intense analogies important part of keeping the some so the measure of blessings you receive. It's connected with the intention analogy michael. Yes it's a a practicing catholic. I have to say. I enjoy this saturday Immense is a certain degree of peace and tranquility. They really did not be an weren't saying that kind of observed will know kind of i have obzor is i find a certain aspects of all people some people that there's a bunch of rule to the app and the number one rule is keeping the sabbath if or places regiment and Ojected notion. I think it should be along the lines of what i mentioned. This is david to enjoy. Just the vibrant with the notion. That i'm alive and i can devote this day. Do grazing god. I remember attending. The university toured several years ago. One was the pastor. And he said you know. I get calls. All the time are get letters all the time from people saying one or to say something about young girls committed in here. Short skirts and some of them wearing earrings. Other pieces of jewelry in the high heels. They walk around shred around wanted to saito in his response was always saying where would you prefer them to be on seven. So that's my comment. That's it thanks okay. So last time we said that saad because given to every person has something to do without deepest longings and the deep desires. We'd meet somehow in a unique way the desire for relationships for goodness if you live in a fallen world it's very easy to become cynical and don't see the goodness because all you encounter is just the fallen human nature. We said something about the beauty and we said that we will address these lessons. Sabbath as an institution and what it says about freedom and saw of the first part of the sunday park connects the sabbath and the creation was again. How many times do we need to do that. Every time we have a lesson on sabas you can be sure it will is going to be connected with the creation. it's important definitely. So what is the significance that the fourth commandment stocks with the word remember so remember thou shall not college remember you are not supposed to steal but remember the sabbath. What is the significance of that. Return summating something for okay. But it's the decks or the history somewhere and can be recalled. Go back to the presidential. Obviously in addressing the crowd Sinai and after the long period of slavery where people are not allowed to keep the saab by their taskmasters the way that would be meaningful to them so this is something that needs to be reminded. Bobby joe the word remember is a big hint of slavery but you have mentioned that that they during slavery were not permitted to have the privilege of worship. They didn't have autonomy over their own hours or schedule or clan of the day so they could not do the remembering their taskmasters decided gay. Thank you irish. I would like to ponder of almond about the act of remembering significance to us. There are diseases that impair our ability to remember. And what is the result of when we are not able to remember what just happened or who our loved ones are. It's a very terrible thing. I think when for example marriage is going through a difficult time it is important to remember the good the reasons why you said yes to your beloved. It is important in times when you're frustrated with your partner to remember the qualities the good things and i wonder whether this remember the sabbath day is prompting us to remember the qualities of who cod his. Remember that he is your maker your creator the one who loved you and who set you up in this world in a beautiful garden who provided you're very needs who provided everything who celebrated over you after creation who delights in your presence in your being here who has a purpose for your life. I think there is a lot in that when we think about what we can remember about the qualities of god that are true with that simple command remember done. I'd like to make a survey personal confession in that is early in my life. I had a rather limited idea about remembering or understanding who i was. It was just one generation and said my parents and then eventually some point. In time i began to realize that i was japanese in that my heritage went back pretty far and then i at some point in time realize that japanese came from chinese heritage Bag even further. And i think that the richness altamont all of us who believe in god and in the bible is our heritage goes back even further those all the way back to creation into adam and it seems to me that we shouldn't leave out the intermediate stages between us in creation because i think understanding the totality of history gives our lives as certain richness in vibrancy that if we don't understand how we fit into history. It's something that we lose in. I think that god would have us think about the whole spectrum. Because i think within that context that went could begin to really understand what god has done for us. What kind of relationship you would like to develop with us. Okay thank you. let's go to bob. And then we'll go to hotter sibanda from zimbabwe was interested if there's any insight as the word remembers english word what the regional word was assume. It was hebrew as in other words. We're putting context that maybe it was forgotten. Is there any insight anybody would have as to. What the original word was and kyle. Sometimes hebrew word gets used in several different ways. We've studied that. How there aren't that. Many words in hebrew vocabulary does that mean the same thing to them that.

"Is just a functionary in many ways. Yes in a sense. It's a clumsy of translating keeping holy because ultimately it's not us who make the sabbath holy so ultimately as a jewish rabbi once said to audience of sabbath keeping people. The difference between and you is that we enjoy this while you keep it and of course was not like that historically so iris we live in an interesting time where many of us have probably experienced for the first time that our sabbath worship the way we're used to is no longer possible and i wonder how has this changed our worship on sabbath when we cannot physically get together We still experiencing the blessings of the sabbath. How have we may be seen new insights and that for example in my professional life covert has forced me to live my professional life differently than i did. Before and in some aspect there have been tremendous growing opportunities for example when it comes to online teaching when it comes to having professional meetings virtually in ways i never thought was possible i wonder how has the pandemic shaped our sabbath experience and maybe has it stripped away some of the things that we were just doing without even reflecting upon. And what is it that we have held onto. Have we learned something. New as our lives have been impacted and changed so dramatically good questions so to shake hands and kant be in the physical proximity with other people has anything changed. How do you experience the sabbath blessing over joe. It has definitely changed the way we get together for this venue. And i think it's special for me. Because i get to join and i love it. So covert has been a good thing for this in my mind so you'll get your sabbath blessing this way. What about the south. When we don't have the final recording eireann well the first sabbath was with adam and eve and god sows only two people in god. And i think that even if it's one person in guide you can still get a blessing though. I will say that. If i was all by myself i would get quite lonely thankfully on my family. My parents mr church family to where we are. We're able to meet at church bed. I find the greatest lessons to come from. Actually just being with my family in god close friends that share some of the same views about god's character and i guess that ties back into bobby joe's saying i'm glad we get to meet here with you guys to even when there's not by no i think the point of the sabbath is that it's a sanctuary in time where you don't have to go somewhere to be with god. God comes to you and that's unique in christianity. So if you are a muslim once in a lifetime you should make the pilgrimage to mecca to see kaba the big stone because that's part of your christian duties so you need to travel and of course that requires means and modes of travel and not everybody around the world in around. All places can do that. While the uniqueness of christianity's you don't need to travel anywhere. The sabbath comes to you regardless of how much you own materially how rich or poor you are regardless where you live it hammer the in norway or in hawaii or in brazil or papua new guinea. It's available to everybody. Yes i was doing. Some research on eugene peterson or a project. Someone who's going to start reading luke. The gospel of luke in a modern translation and i suggested his translation to begin with to someone who hasn't read the bible at all at all doesn't even know where loop that. Gospel is in the bible. So i was doing a little of this kind of cursory kind of research on peterson and i came across this article. September to nineteen eighty eight. I know that sounds like a long ways away. But let me tell you. This article is really apropos. To our quarter year steady on the sabbath and arm rests so this is the title of his article. Everybody confessions of a former sabbath breaker. Confessions of a former sabbath breaker and what has happened. Is that if i could just read. What christianity today says here earlier this year christianity today asked a random sample of readers to rate the importance to them of a series of religious and theological questions. The editors were surprised by the results higher than the problem of pain and more important than the charismatic renewal indeed highest divall readers raided. This should christians their lord's day observance more seriously now. This was back in nineteen eighty eight. But as a result of the survey the editors decided they were gonna commission chapters for a book to be published early next nineteen eighty nine. And i haven't had a chance to that and it was going to be published by christianity today and scripture. Chris and they're saying this article is a foretaste of what will be in that book and this one is called. Confessions of former sabah spreaker. Now you know we discussed someone may have asked well. Why can't i keep tuesday. Or whatever any day is sabbath turns out that pearson was a pastor in the anglican church and it was not feasible. he'd think for him to keep sabbath on saturday or sunday so he and his wife elected to keep sabbath on tuesday. I think it was. But i think it would be worthwhile reading this article and another resource. I'd like to tell you about a more recent one. Martin goebel meyer. The pbs documentary filmmaker. Just released recently a book. On abraham show and of course i think we've referred to show before but he's written that beautiful slender but really deep ice think exposition of savvas just to the savage and he was on who said the sabbath a cathedral in time so anyway. Those are a couple of references. I think you'll enjoy conventions of reformer sadness breaker.

"Number ten rest and christ third quarter two thousand twenty one daniel data bobby joe olafur opening per father in heaven in this time of turmoil stress and distress of modern lives. Were so grateful that you have instituted rest in paradise and lord we want to enter into that in the hours that were enjoying today and thank you. We are so deeply grateful in your name. We pray this amen amen. So hello to everybody but it's morning or afternoon for you. A lesson number ten on the quarter arrest in christ and they swan is about sabbath. Rest so how do you think the members of the sabbath school are going to feel now so we have been studying for nine weeks dis arrest now the second lesson on the sabbath. How do you feel blogging to think about that. Are they going to be happy for the quarter or praying for these speedy end to it and remember the habit every week. Unlike you know that's an advantage an advantage any reactions depends on how the view the prospect of rest. How they define is okay. Do things adopter nine lessons. There is something more to cover. What percentage of our members have the mindset that bible. It's like puzzle like a huge puzzle that needs to be resolved. So it's a big puzzle and you find the pc's and once you put the pieces together than done so once you have discovered which day are we supposed to keep retreated food. We are supposed to eat and not to eat. And then what percentage of our income should go to good and charitable purposes. You have solved the puzzle and that's it nothing more to discover nothing more to see reduc underaged by the time. They put us together that they find that. There is a picture but it doesn't make sense to get annoyed with pitches that makes any sense. Yes and of course with puzzle. You need to have a mental picture or some kind of cheat sheet ready before you start otherwise. You don't know where to start and how to put the puzzle and most people are not aware of the system. That's part of the big struggle when we train future pastors to make them aware of the system which they have in their mind will be joe. I think your question once we find the day and the right food to eat when i think that that was the issue that derailed israel. They knew the right day they knew the right food and they just went into autopilot and forgot about the relationship that god was inviting them to have with him. Yes and we will talk about john five and the fact that jesus just issues a simple command and it's seen as breaking the sabbath us because he he a man who has been ill for thirty eight years so there was nothing acute. Nothing urgent about what he has done. And so you've got the problems at the son of god is breaking the sabbath on south now of course the audience might recognize him. Miss son of god. It's we will deal with that. And what lessons can be learned that. Can you see the problem with approach of the bible. It's some kind of big puzzle and the purpose to find the pc's and feed them together and once you're done that that's right. What's next not to do this and you don't see that. Wow you can study while the rest for thirteen weeks. Hardly scratched the surface because they are depth that you cannot imagine. In god's word. Larry kid is a puzzle. Be on folded. If you will. The problem that i experienced is that when i go to bed at night somebody comes in rearranges the pieces and then to make it even more complicated. They bring some of the instructions from different versions. So you're constantly putting the pieces together to try and fit into this picture. So i kind of find it enjoying and like rusty lights more lessons on the sabbath. I like the fact that the puzzle just keeps evolving. Good gary along the same line of christ. They had the puzzle mate and obviously that wasn't enough. I don't see any problem with putting the puzzle together but the problem is just stopping. Oh kids put together. The same puzzle can be shown as black or white or color or could be in a modern. Are typo interpretation like with larry said somebody. Keys rearranging the puzzles. Obviously if we're going to be keeping the sabbath fraternity there's something to it is gonna take a long time in fact will never probably appreciating missed. Significance is the sapper satellite. Yes we believe. We have the right day. But i'm not sure we always know exactly what it is named to keep the hour or two rough on the salary i think that's continuing as to be evaluated maybe even change s and that's the problem with the notion or approach the by beliefs like Make puzzle that you think you have figured out that you arrived in once you put it together the right way you can just ask mirror mirror telling me who has got it right and you end up either in structural pride or you end up the rest because you don't know how to put the puzzle together and out some parts which they still don't fit and so as long as you keep putting it together and as you see that there are things that you have known discouraged or seen and you are still growing. So that's good keith. I think we do excels a disservice are using the would keep because gary used it. I use it. We grown up using would keep. Keeping sabbath is a process and scholley. We should really be looking at the idea of celebrate seeing sabbath celebrating. Gold's rest celebrating. What he did on sabbath also service until we get a mindset. The takes us in that direction. The idea of keeping sabbath.

"And you can't seem to get the rest you desire. Is it possible for you and me to be sick and tired of being tired. Oh i believe the writer gives us the insight. We need to overcome our dysfunction chaos stress lack of this and that when we understand why we should remember the sabbath. Can i get a witness with that in mind. There are three points extracted from this text. That will help us with the answer. The first thing we notice is that god rested from all of his work. Secondly god blessed the day and the last thing god did sanctify the seventh day and made it holy. Now i'll get to that momentarily. But before i do let me share a story about two sisters. Their names were mary and martha one day. Jesus and his disciples arrived in bethany where mary and martha lynn on this particular day. Martha invited jesus into their home as it was customary to extend hospitality to your guests. Martha began to preparing the meal. Still mary decided it was more important to spend some quality time in the presence of jesus then to worry about. The traditional protocols are her to do this. Mary seize the opportunity to enjoy the peace in the calm that jesus brought into their home as the light of his presence filled the room. Perhaps mary was sick and tired of being tired and this was her moment to be free from the routine of life at the same time. Martha found it necessary to check off her to do this now. The writer doesn't say that this visit took place on the sabbath. still it. Relase a message from ecclesiastes chapter three verse one. There is a time for everything and season for every activity. Under the heavens see fam-. It was a time to work for martha and a time to rest for mary. There was nothing wrong with martha share to show hospitality and serve jesus but sometimes our business will keep us from entering in to sabbath rest. I share this story because it is relevant to our first point as we read in verse to god rested on the seventh day after he created the heavens and the earth. The seventh day was so important to guide etched it in the ten commandments. Remember the sabbath day and keep it holy this day denotes a time of rest from all work in using our creative faculties. It is a time to contemplate what god has created and given us through his son. James chapter one verse. Seventeen puts it this way..
