"On that team. I mean, he is on that team. He's going to be really good. Early, but he's surrounded by nola and Wheeler and other veterans on that team, and it's sort of like when you think about the perfect formula for success. Veterans, for sure, they're going to get Harper back at some point in the middle of the season. That's a huge boost that other teams aren't getting. They're good enough to stay in contention with the mets and the braves. They benefit from not having to play them as often as last year. Castellanos is determined to be a better player. Bryce and Scott is coming off the seat of us yesterday. I watched every single playoffs game. I watched every World Series with the volume at ten, and he recognized there was some deficiencies in his swing at the end of the season. So what you hope for is your players work on certain things that take them to another level and I look at Castellanos and starred as two examples, bone put on ten pounds of muscle like they're all seemingly doing things to improve themselves and I feel really good about the Philadelphia Phillies in a very, very hard division. Yeah, bohm was funny yesterday when we talked to him during the course of the game about is we're off his workout and he goes, you know, if I keep getting asked about it, I'm going to get drug tested. But I agree. He looks like he's growing. And I'm kind of thinking about writing this story, Carl. Tell me what you think about this. After I walked away from the Philly yesterday, I thought about a fun article would be the best Clubhouse, guys ever. For me, in the last 15, 20 years, I think the best was CC Sabathia. You know, you heard the stories about how inclusive he was, how, when he was with the Indians. How he would have any cookout was at his house. And his mom would be the one who would cook. And he pulled everybody together. Kyle schwarber, I think, is that guy right now, Carl. I mean, the stories that I was hearing, first off, and you saw this and I did, too, you know, he comes onto the field before any of the other Phillies. He walks over the Red Sox, and it's like a returning hero. And that was the conversation among some of the Red Sox players last year, like, man, do we miss schwarz. And then you sort of see the impact he's having on the Phillies, he's in the middle of everything. He's in the middle of everything. It didn't one of the Red Sox kind of jokingly say, well, wait a minute. We rolled out the red carpet, schwarber was using a medicine ball in our Clubhouse to win our in our weight facility.

you broadcast the game The other thing I think you have to take into consideration now is you talk about streaming and you talk about traditional it's called linear TV broadcast Each audience expects "I have to share with you. These incredible quotes from CCS bathia after the Red Sox beat the Yankees again. Ousted them from the playoffs again. He had to have known that this was going to be like an injection of pure ecstasy for Red Sox fans. I don't know why he would say this out loud. But I am very grateful he did. I'm going to read the direct quotes from CC Sabathia on the R two C two podcast from the ringer. Here's what he said. This Red Sox team is a completely different team. Our core loss to a team in 2018 that's not even the same Red Sox. They went on to win a World Series, Mookie, Jackie Bradley, Ben intended. They traded all them dudes. We still had the same core. We come back to Boston fucking four years later and lose to a fucking completely different core that they have raised up in three years. Like, how does that happen? What the fuck are we doing wrong? And they do and write that in a three year span, they live in a World Series and then a completely fucking different core whoops our ass in the fucking wild card game. Then I have to say in this Yahoo sports article that is recapping what he said, shout out to Darren hartwell, who was actually from NBC sports Boston, Darren hartwell, as this amazing little quote right after that where he says in Sabathia's defense, New York doesn't have the exact same core from that 2018 season. GM Brian cashman did spend $324 million to bring in ace Gary Cole, who gave up three runs in two plus innings on Tuesday night to take the loss. So nice little shot there, Darren very well executed for CC Sabathia to get on this podcast. And not only just be like, hey, you know, Yankee sucked. What are they doing? They've got to be better than this. But he just like completely these out, the argument for why the Red Sox are the better organization. They've overhauled. They've gotten rid of three players who in 2018 were the best outfield in baseball through the best players in baseball, Mookie betts and MVP..

"Man. Garrett Cole was sent to the mound on Wednesday night to face the Los Angeles angels to avoid the series sweep. How many times does this come? How many times is Garrett Cole been asked to stop the bleeding? How many times did it happen? How many times it hasn't happened? Have there been concerns about girls and ace? I know I've had them. Call me a psycho, but I've had them when the Yankees sign up to a 9 year or $324 million contract. I just wasn't sure. He had a shaky kind of go in Pittsburgh. I know it's Pittsburgh, so you can't really you can't really take that too seriously, but then he heads to Houston. And look, I'll talk about it. We had the whole allegations of the doctoring baseballs in Houston, and then Gerrit Cole, all of a sudden becomes one of the arguably at top three picture in baseball. If Justin Verlander's on on his team or Justin Verlander doesn't exist, he at least wins a Cy Young award while he's there. Led the league in strikeouts in 2019 with 326. So did it feel like at the time the Yankees were maybe getting hosed and free agency by paying him $36 million a year, which was by far the highest paid starting pitcher in the history of baseball, I don't know. Obviously not now, but at the time, it was a worthwhile question. Why can't we have doubts? Why can't we have questions? I know it was great. A lot of fans just didn't even care. They were like, we're getting an ace or we're getting an ace like pitcher, haven't had this since the turn of the decade with CC Sabathia. It doesn't matter. We just need a guy who can pump. We need a guy who can give us length. We need a power pitcher, bring it on. Everyone was happy. A lot of people were happy. I was happy. I just had some doubts. And you know what? Gary Cole is silenced all of those doubts. And last night was probably the the obviously the latest, but it was the most refreshing evidence yet. 15 strikeout performance 7 innings one.

Just remember that. Time like the chris farley and paul mccartney on the chris farley show Remember that that game where roms and walked off the white sox after you. Shut down for seven innings. That was awesome but anyway thanks so much to see. That was amazing. What a day to talk to him to you. When the yankees needed to keep intensity level up for a double header against the bosox at home and did so alex cora going home with his tail between his legs. If alex cora loses to andrew heaney on wednesday night that will be the most single most embarrassing laws of the major league baseball season. So cross your fingers. Best of luck hope. I mean no bullpen. There's no is together. There's no green. There's britain probably know. Juan de there's joe l. e. There's no klay homes. I mean nick nelson. You gotta bring stephen writings back if you can. It's all good folks this this wednesday night. Game not shaping up very well but you did what you had to do. Because if you'd lost one of the two doubleheader games which again very reasonable very possible hardest week doubleheader extremely on the table that that could happen you end up needing to win this game to win the series and it's kini and it's probably looking bad early if alex core loses andrew heaney on the road tonight. That's the single most embarrassing loss of the entire season. No questions asked no. No questions needed no questions. Possible outscore looks a little different on the road than at home. Doesn't he less confident. Rolling the red sox players in the laundry car looks a little as interesting when they're blowing a nine and a half game leading three weeks doesn't it doesn't it looks like maybe we're having a maybe we're having a little too much fun in may now. This isn't over again. He ne- on wednesday night. Not going to be good. The red sox will flip flop with the plow spot if and when they beat ager heaney and again if they lose most embarrassing loss of the entire season. Don't carry chicks before they hatch. Because that's what boston did. We're going to have to win a lot of games to hold them off. Maybe oakland struggles. That'd be great. We go there by the end of next week for a four game set gotta win those gotta split those in a place where we historically have not done that. At least jays are common but springer's hurt starting to look like maybe they might fade a little bit in the next couple of weeks might come down to us and the red sox and the as for two spots might eventually come down to us on the red sox in the wildcard game terrifying. But you know what. Don't think of that now win. Baseball games make sure the red sox lose games against good teams and continue to lose games against good teams as much as you can. All we can do now like see said. We're playing playoff games. Every day that takes a toll on people. Let's try to get as many as we can but do not rest on your laurels. You didn't think this is going to be a month ago. But it is unique thing andrew will ask. Is it be here a week ago. But he is delivers a two run. Two out single in the first game makes great play in the sixth inning of the first game to keep rafael devers off base. Obviously every out mattered in that one. So whether it be the v six or seven any out you can get there. You don't have to get in the future Get hoax up with luke void on the tag play at third red sox running out on the basis inter bogart's to single tagged out in You know he he knocked in two runs in. Mealy got out red sox looking like the yankees in that first game close but no cigar so andrew velasquez hat tip to you. Jonathan elisa obviously massive hat tip to you. Loaded the base efficient sixth-inning loaded the bases on on singles in the seventh with the top of the lineup. Coming up gets pinch-hitter travis. Shot a line out kiki hernandez who tormented him And tormented everyone at fenway. Just a couple of weeks ago when the season was quite a bit different great couple of weeks ago. Aaron tormenting you got. We can't get these red sox out of the way. It's a no hitter in the eighth inning. They're going to win five four. We cannot get these red sox out of the way and after that. Boston appears to have decided their season was over. We mission accomplished. We made our statement. Nix aren't going anywhere. We eliminated the yankees so now we just tried to track down the raise. Well how wrong you were and jonathan lazaga. Getting out of that bases-loaded no outs night. Then jim not just with the lead intact but without a single run-scoring that is just not something that happens in this team's very recent history. I can't every fan. "Women are described as hard Ege soft centered, brutally demanding and easily pleased. But that's only one of the many passages here that make a reader stop and appreciate the way Naylor expresses nuanced emotional states. Take this line about Theresa, who had a crucial moment. Let's Lorraine walk out the door in favor of maybe someone easier. Theresa was a young woman and still in search of answers, and she made the fatal mistake that many young women do of believing that what never existed. Was just cleverly hidden beyond her reach. Definitely. Naylor gathers all these individual stories into one climactic narrative that works through the reader via a word by word sense of horror and outrage. The power to decide who in fact can be permitted the ordinary chance to be just a lousy human being is itself still the subject of furious argument in this country.
