A highlight from Dissecting Djokovics Reign, Cocos Title & the 2023 US Open With Craig OShannessy

"Welcome to the official tennis .com podcast featuring professional coach and community leader Kamau Murray. Welcome to the tennis .com podcast. I am your host Kamau Murray and we are here with one of our usual suspects. We always have to do our Masters 1000 Grand Slam wrap up with Mr. Data, Mr. Analytics, Mr. Guy in the bunker with his pen and pad, Craig O 'Shaughnessy. Craig, welcome to the show. Pleasure to be here. Pleasure to be here. I just got back from the US Open. I was there for two weeks. It felt like eight. It's the most draining slam of all. It was a good tournament, some great matches. It's tough, I think way tougher to be there for the duration than any other tournament that there is. 100%. You survive. And the matches, the tournament goes so late and the process to get to and from the site makes it just a haul, right? And it makes the day just long. At an hour and a half to the front and the back of your day, in addition to sitting there watching matches and this thing. Before we get to Coco Sabalenka, because that'll take up the whole show, right? You and I normally, we dibble and dabble on the girls and then we dive into the men's. I want to do the reverse. I want to dibble and dabble in the men's because I don't think anyone's surprised about what happened because if we start talking about Coco and Sabalenka now, it'll just be the whole hour. So when you look at a whole two weeks, right, and I was there for the first part of it, seeing the energy, talking to the players, touching, feeling them, seeing how them and themselves A, were enjoying the atmosphere, sometimes a little too much, B, managing the atmosphere or C, trying to just control their bubble within the atmosphere. And I think that process probably, those three sort of situations probably cost Francis a further run, right, kind of getting caught in the matrix, right, absorbing a lot of atmosphere. And then Ben, with the experience of his family, his dad, controlling the atmosphere, probably had a lot to do with his long run. But I think the match that I think had the biggest impact on the tournament was definitely Novak versus Jerry. Did you see the match? What did you think when Novak left the court, down sucess to love, goes to the bathroom and looks himself in the mirror, what happened? Yeah, when he left the court, you know, it was, he's down two sets to love, Jerry's controlling the back of the court with his backhand, his backhand was the best shot on the court in the first two sets. But to be honest, even then Novak goes in, he's still the favorite, still the favorite down two sets to love. He's done it before, you know, it's one of those things where can your opponent play three blinding good sets out of five? Maybe not, probably not, when Novak goes in, you know, you just kind of reset, look in the mirror. He did exactly the same thing against Tsitsipas at Roland Garros, came out and just mowed over him in the last three sets, mowed over Jerry in the last three sets. It was a carbon copy, it's like Novak looks in the mirror and goes, okay, we've got that out of the way. Whether it's a combination of Novak being a little tight, playing, you know, a fellow countryman, it's a combination of early rounds being a bit tight. It's a combination of the opponent just playing spectacular tennis, but you can see right from the start of that match, Novak wasn't, his A game did not turn up right at the beginning. He was pushing, he was prodding, he was spinning, you know, just watching him play a thousand matches, you look at him and say, well, he's not there yet. And even after two sets, he's not there. But you know, sometimes for players, when you get down, it can relax you. It's like, well, I can't fall any further down this hall, I'm two sets to love down. May as well relax, may as well chill out, may as well believe in myself, may as well hit the ball, and Novak's the master of that. So I'm not so, I'm not surprised by the final result. And I think overall, it really helped Novak to play such a quality match and have to overcome some adversity early on. So I agree with you, very pivotal match for the men's draw. Well, let me ask you this, because from a coach's standpoint, when I see, when I see that type of performance, my mind goes to, it wasn't ready to play, right? When I look at like Francis and Ben Shelton, it looked like Francis wasn't ready to play. When I'm sitting in a coach's box and my player goes down 3 -0 or 4 -1, and they're like, deer in the headlines, don't know what to do, it was like, what was not clear prior to the match? You've spent a lot of time with Novak, Novak's got one of the best teams out there, he's the most methodical and committed to his regimen. How does something like that happen to a player who's number one, Jerry is Serbian, right? So you knew who you were playing, right? How did you come out not ready to play? I mean, is there a chance that at this big of an event, at this point in the event that he just wasn't ready or wasn't clear on what to do or from being close and inside, what do you think? Yeah, I think if you look back to Novak's seven matches, I think he will have a slightly different explanation for how he started in all sevens. You get all your ducks in a row, you watch the video, you talk to the team, you get the game plan, but at the start, it was like Novak, in that match, he may walk out there and sometimes he feels the energy of the crowd and it excites him. Sometimes you feel the energy of the crowd and you may go away a little bit and then come back. But I thought that he was attempting to work his way into this match, to start off even to let his resume do the talking early, let the other guy go away, let the other guy spray balls and it didn't happen. It just didn't happen. So all of a sudden, the opponent's not missing a thing, the opponent's playing at a much higher level than Novak was and you're just not ready for that. He's not ready for that. You're going to play a match like that. In the course of a season where these guys are playing about 80 matches, you're going to have these subtleties with how the opponent's playing, how you're playing, are you really ready, are you working yourself into the match, are you coming out guns blazing? And it was just a bad combination of layers for Novak where Jerry threw the first punches, Novak's tasting blood, and it took him a couple of sets to recover, but there was never any doubt in my mind that he would still win that match. And I think that's the oddest thing. I think the odds makers, after being two sets, Novak was still the favorite and I was like, wow. That's probably the first time that I've seen that, I'm not a better, but the odds makers were still favoring Novak. So let me ask you this. Another pivotal match in the tournament, I think, was TFO Ben Shelton. Yeah, I was at that match. I think we all knew Ben Shelton could play. I thought it was very impressive, him beating Tommy Paul, right? One of the things, and I don't know the reason for this, is when he beat Tommy Paul, the crowd, obviously they had to choose, both Americans, Ben and Tommy, but when Ben beat Tommy, I was a little disappointed that the crowd was kind of quiet, right? But we don't have to hop on that, but I do want to point it out that the crowd was eerily quiet after the win of that. But with him and Francis, one of the things that concerned me about Francis was in that New York environment, with all the celebrities, with all the kind of like, and I mean, first of all, we got to keep it going. More non -tennis people, more non -tennis athletes, musicians, entertainers, artists showed up to the US Open this year than I can ever remember. And we need to do that for the sport to grow. But you still got a tournament to play, right? And this generation who loves that, loves the attention, will have to learn to balance how much is too much, how much gets me off kilter, and how much gets me off track. And I thought that the day before the Ben match, you saw Francis with Bieber. I thought that that was a little too much and perhaps maybe took for granted that Ben would shit his pants, and he didn't, right? You know what I mean? Because when you get to that point in the tournament, when you are the veteran, you kind of expect the young guy to give you a couple, like, ah, if I just play solid, he'll know who he is, and the shock factor will cause him to make a few unforced errors or some bad decisions, and it didn't happen. And to me, that goes in the book of, Francis didn't look ready to play, and I think he'll learn from this experience on managing the energy, managing his energy, for that late in the tournament. But I mean, Ben brought it. What was your take on Ben now when you look at the stats, when you look at the 149 mile an hour serve, what is your take on him now having seen him play six matches? Well, the Tommy Paul match was really good. I liked how he managed the ability to say, okay, this is a ball to pull the trigger on. I spoke with his dad at the start of the tournament, and I mentioned possibly our discussion that we've had in other ones is that I think Ben's maturity is going to come from figuring out when there's one more ball that needs to be hit. There's just one more ball. And I think maybe I talked to you about it last time, but it goes back to me to the 2000 Australian Open final. Agassi beats Kefalnikov in four sets. Agassi's one in the world, Kefalnikov's two. Agassi goes to the post -match interview. Bruce McAvaney is interviewing there, and they're watching some film, and Agassi's just going, you know, Kefalnikov moves well, he lights the ball up, the surface helps him, and he throws this line in there, he goes in the middle, he goes, and he's only looking to pull the trigger one time in the point. So he's a really tough opponent. And that just has always stuck with me. And that's what I said to Ben's dad is that Ben needs to just go, I could pull the trigger on this ball, but it's not quite the right one yet. I could pull the trigger on the next ball. Literally, you could pull the trigger on every ball he hits. But growth, his his maturity, his tennis development and tennis IQ is getting better because you're hitting a ball that makes the opponent uncomfortable, you're hitting a ball that can extract an error, and you don't always have to hit the winner. So Ben's development is going to be predicated on one more ball in the court and making a better decision on when to pull the trigger. And I thought he did a great job in the Tommy Paul match and a great job in the Francis Tiafone match of not pulling too early. And then he went and played Novak and just everything went to hell in a hand basket. And it didn't. But that was, you know, I was for the Tiafone match getting back to that. You know, I'm watching at the start and the first kind of 10 minutes, it looked kind of even, you know, good decisions, both sides, good points, both sides. Francis was so quick coming to the net. He does such a great job of, you know, hitting a ball and he's already leaning on it, you know, with his short little backswing on the backhand. And all of a sudden he's almost leaning over the net, spiking these volleys. I'm like, oh, my God, this guy has figured out, you know, the only person I saw that really blew me out of the water with that was McEnroe, John McEnroe. He looked like he went through a time warp, whereas it takes, you know, all of us 1 .5 seconds to move from the baseline inside into the service box. But he goes through this time warp that looks like 0 .2 of a second. He's like, how does he get in there that quickly? Francis showed me that early on. But then the focus, the concentration, the locked in, the decision making started to erode at around the 10 to 15 minute mark, and he never recovered from that. Yeah. So you get Ben has Novak in the semifinals. And I think that Novak, I mean, just has this ability to you know, it's what I was it's kind of what Coco did. I call it cumulative pressure. And it is. I'm going to run the ball down, I'm going to make you hit an extra ball, I'm going to make you play one more ball every point on your serve so that later you feel it. You may not feel it now, but later you feel it. And that was an example of what I call cumulative pressure that kind of got to Ben. Yeah. What was your take on what Novak did to Ben or vice versa, what Ben did not do that match that he did the previous matches? Yeah, good point. That was that was a really fun match to be at the energy, the atmosphere, you know, the old guard, the new guard. You're exactly right. There was, you know, on that court in twenty eighteen, I worked with Novak to defeat Del Potro. And a lot of the commentators, when you go back and go through that match, they're like, Del Potro is dropping 135, 138 and Novak's putting it back in his shoes. And the commentators are like, how in the world is he doing this? Well, there's only one way that you do that is that you study Del Potro's patterns and you know what to say. When Del Potro needs a point in the juice court, he's going to and when he doesn't need a point, he's going to go, why? Novak's sitting there on it. And I felt the same thing is that Ben's dropping heat on especially on first serves. And Novak is putting so many balls back in play that you're exactly right, that it just kept accumulating and accumulating. The other thing that really stood out to me. That I don't know why is that Ben sliced so many returns, just this slow, just not even like a Federer kind of knifing, dark slice, it's this blocking slow slice that's not as good as Wawrinka's. It's not within a meter of the baseline. It's there was once he's just too defensive. So he's putting no pressure, no pressure on Novak because because he overdid the slice. Now, all of a sudden, he's got to deal with so many serves coming back and then the decision making. Then he starts, you know, the fingers kind of on the trigger, then he starts pulling it too much. And then, you know, Novak knows why this kid is potentially a real problem for me. But I've already figured him out about 15 minutes in. He's not doing anything against my serve. I'm doing everything against his serve and putting times back. I'm just going to press cruise control and take a nap for the next 30 kilometers. Yeah. And I think that was probably the one mistake and probably a tactic that was misinterpreted was, hey, if on his serve, put pressure on because you get racket on every ball, not to bunt every ball. Right. Because Novak is the is the history, the best returner in history, but he's not the best server in history. And he I don't want to call it vulnerable, but you will have an opportunity or two against Novak on his serve in a five set match. And I thought, Ben, with as great of a service he had, with as big of a service he has, he didn't take enough risks on the return gains and he didn't play. Correct. And when I say aggressive, I don't mean like crazy out of this world, we're winners, but controlled aggression. There was no reason Novak serving a buck 21, a buck 22 for you to block the serve back. You can have plenty of time to take a full swing and at least send a message for the rest of his career that your serve doesn't bother me. Right. Part of being a young guy is how do I apply cumulative pressure that may not work this match, but in three or four matches from now in the next semi? Right. Because you still got to go through Novak that shows them I'm not bothered by your serve and you better be you will be bothered by my serve. Right. And I think that was sort of a missed opportunity for Ben to take some cuts at Novak serve. And I think that set the tone for the match that allowed Novak to kind of steam roll.

Just lowering the speed alone limit hasn't had the effect that we had hoped to see. Dan neighbors with Arlington County says speed limits on some schools started getting lower to 20 miles per hour last year. But on roads near Gunston Middle and Hoffman Boston and Cardinal Elementary schools that wasn't enough. Speed humps will be installed near those schools this fall as part of a pilot program and they should look somewhat familiar. They're a little bit larger than your kind of tactical speed bump that you will see like in a parking lot. Neighbors says they're less expensive than permanent speed humps and the county will collect data to monitor whether helping they're the lower speeds. "On clay so far this season I even thought he might pull the cord on the clay court season and not bother with Rome and Paris the way things were going. This feels like a, you know, I don't know whether it'll mean anything but I'll tell you what it does mean it means you can still bloody well play tennis to a high level. And it means ranking points he's back inside the world's top 50s and it and I increasingly think this is all about getting seated for Wimbledon. That's what I think this clay court season is about and why is it remaining committed to it? And also get, you know, getting wins and trying to get some form together, but that's big, I think, really, because it must be really disconcerting to be a player of his history. Losing badly to players that he in the past would have beaten. Fairly efficiently. So anyway, great, great win for him. A few other small lines from over the course of the week while they're not small lines. Did we say that Rafael Nadal was out of Rome? What he is. He's not playing Rome. And that means that if he's going to play Ron and Garros, he's either got to have one week of a tournament in the week before, or he's going to come in literally cold. Not literally. Well, he's going to come in cold. The weather can be unpredictable in Paris in May, David. He's going to come in literally without any matches. That's what he is going to career preparing then it all red carpets. Robbing their hands together. I don't think you'll play that before. I don't think you'll play that. Is he going to play Roland Garros? If I had to guess now I would say no. I don't think he plays if he doesn't think he can win. And I don't see how at this age and physicality he can win, having not played for. What will it be 18 weeks? Something like that? Yeah, I mean, this announcement came with a with a slight positive. He did mention and point to some improvement that he'd seen in the last few days since his previous update about trying the new treatment. It was a bit kind of triggering this one because they didn't, they didn't bother to record a new video announcing it. They just put out a statement, but they included the same still from the previous video along with along with the message. So I was like, oh God, it's this again, you know, it was sort of preparing you for the worst. And obviously it is bad news that he's that he's out of Rome, but there is, I suppose, a slight bit of something to hang a bit of hope on in this message whereas they're kind of wasn't in the other one, but yeah, I mean, he's only won 5 matches since Wimbledon last year, Rafa Nadal, and we're talking about him trying to win 7 in two weeks. And it's a completely unprecedented situation, because as Catherine said, that I was, I don't think that I was going to ride on Garros just to be at Roland Garros. And I'm not sure I want that. Look, I don't want Roland Garros without Rafael Nadal, of course, but I don't want to see an injured there for the taking. Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros, either I think that will feel very uncomfortable. And here we'll feel uncomfortable like that. So it just feels like such a such a long wave. Still, for him to go with so little time. Yeah, it does. Fingers crossed that something can happen that will make it possible for them to play and be competitive, but that does feel pretty unlikely just at the moment. One final note for this week's show, you may have seen a story about the Russian player Veronica, who had a decent run at the tournament. Being sponsored by one of the country's oil and gas giants, tat Neff, she's been wearing a logo on her kit throughout the tournament, and that there was some discussion as to, you know, is that allowed, especially given the announcements by Wimbledon recently that they're going to require players to sign a declaration not to have financial support from Russian companies and to wear patches of that ilk. And so she was asked about it. She says I'm allowed to do it during this tournament and on the tour generally and I'm just not allowed to do it at Wimbledon. So I'm going to take it off there. So we decided to check with Wimbledon and with the lawn tennis association who were involved in all the British tournaments that are put on and require this declaration to be signed by the Russian players and the Belarusian players ahead of competing if they want to compete at those tournaments and basically the gist of it is the registration form that Russian and Belarusian players have got a sign to compete states that while the participating in the championships at Wimbledon and the same will apply at the other British tournaments at the time in the lead up. The player will not be in receipt of funding from Russian or Belarusian states, including sponsorship from companies operated or controlled by the Russian anvil Belarusian states. So that means they can't wear these logos and they can't receive money. The question I would love to know is, well, yes, there might not be able to earn any money from your tournament for those two weeks, but what if they did a deal with that company that compensates them and doubles their money before the tournament or after the tournament. And the gist is, I mean, basically they just don't have the jurisdiction on anything outside of those two weeks. So it does feel like there's a bit of a loophole there. I mean, I suppose you might say, well, there's no visibility for those companies during Wimbledon as long as they're signing this thing and not wearing a patch and talking about those companies, but actual funding. I don't see how you can stop them getting the same amount, just at different times of the year. I mean, that's basically the fact. But that's one story that was bubbling up over the last week and we'll see how it develops. Now for us, we'll be back with you in a week's time

I asked them, did you click instantly when you started playing doubles together? And before I'd even got the question out, bob bore a critique of her was nodding aggressively. She said, yes, the first ball we hit together. Wow. As juniors, she said there were 13 years old when they first played doubles together, and she said she knew from the absolute first moment she said, we weren't mates, particularly back then, she said, we've become best mates, but in terms of a doubles partnership, she absolutely knew straight away. And I just loved that from them. So they'll play in the final tomorrow against Laura siegman and Beatrice her dad Meyer David. Okay, I'll be there. What time is that? It's at 11 a.m. okay, that's me. And I know for sure that you've got golf book for tomorrow morning. I will be there because Prime Video we're covering it on UK TV. David and Matt will be swanning around a golf club. Well, we can get back for that, Matt. We can see the I'll let you know what happens, David. Thanks. We can take a matte specimen approach. Don't watch first sets. Matt felt for The New York Times. What's his view on that? Wait, he just doesn't watch first sets, I think, because we have a reason. I think there's so much tennis to watch. Well, he'd have saved himself a whole lot of faff with sublingual and saccharin earlier on today. If he skips all of the opening proceedings. In fact, he could have been a smart move. It would have been worth doing that in all the sackers matches this week. Yeah. I mean, just show up. Game set and catch. It was the highlight where the action is. So what about these men's semifinals that we've got tomorrow? We have Medvedev tiafoe. And we have alcaraz against sinner. Now we did a little preview of this yesterday. We won't say too much more because we've got, well, we've got someone very special to help us preview. One of the two semifinals at least, and that's because I bring you ladies and gentlemen, the latest edition, of doorstep by David. And loitering on the lawn with David, because no with law. Loiter. You know, you did that whole disclaimer and you kind of say lawyering on the lawn with law. I'm never going to make it take off if I can't deliver it properly. Am I loitering along with law? And this one did take place on the lawn, am I right? Next to. Next to very close to. But I saw on the lawn, Carlos sauerkraut, coming towards me and to the masses who were next to the railing leaning over with their giant tennis balls and the things they wanted him sign and screaming. It was honestly YouTube been watching Taylor Swift bootlegged live videos all night. Nothing bootleg about it. And all the screaming that goes on. I mean, it was a bit like that with alcaraz. They sort of keep the fans in a sort of pen, don't they? Cage them off. It's great that they have that facility just for fans. And I know they all get selfish. They must also graph, but why is he got? Why is he not penned in? Him or me? Me. Okay, right. Anyway, thank goodness he's not pending because if he were, we wouldn't be able to bring you the brilliant content that we're about to, because Carlos alcaraz a couple of days ago was heading off the player lawn to many cheers and whoops and hollers from the crowd, closely followed by his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, but his hopes are getting swiftly back to the locker room with dashed. I do stopping David and he's stopping. Here's what happened. Oh balls. Here's what happened. It's quite a sight and a sound to hear you come off the practice court and to hear the reaction when Carlos comes out. Does it bring back any memories for you from your career? I remember a couple of scenes a little bit like that. Yeah, of course. When I was on the top, obviously people, I think they showed me the respect and the love for sport and to me that I have been enjoying my games when I was there and some of the members that I have as beautiful. What is it like for you as a coach now? Because it's different, isn't it? You've got all those years of experience under your belt. What is it like? Yeah, of course, it's very different. Being on the chair is not the same. You feel sometimes that you can not do maybe what you have inside that you want to teach him. But anyway, it's been a wonderful, let's say, race for the moment because it's been everything happens so fast, but at the same time it's been an amazing achievement for both of us because it's my second player as a coach. So yeah, I'm very

"Still tactically, you've got the capacity to try and think clearly and change things up whether you're able to execute that. Or not, they didn't seem to be the intention to do that, I suppose, or certainly I didn't see any evidence of that. But Elaine were back to come back to your original point, David. I don't think I have seen her put in a better start to finish performance from that. And I think part of that was, I can't believe I'm saying this because it's eager to, but you shouldn't take didn't make her uncomfortable really at any point. There was one rally, wasn't there where we said, oh, that's what she needs to be doing. She moved her. She moved her. Look, we're back in it is a better mover than you think she's going to be because you see those big ground strokes in the big serve and you see the size of her when you think back in the day she might not have been a great move because that would been enough would have been enough, but these days I think the game has evolved to such a stage that you can't afford to have your movement is a weakness. It can be a relative weakness, but it can't be an absolute weakness. And she moves decently. Does Elaine are back in her and so it's not just a question of getting her on the run a bit. You have to really, really work the angles. And then we want two points there which she did. And it was like, okay, that's it. But wasn't able to do it consistently at all and we're back in a just felt completely serene didn't feel like she was in any kind of battle out there, no questions for her to answer. The serve helps, I think, not just practically not just in reality, I think it helps mentally so much when you're playing somebody with the locker room or that you get has now when she steps out onto court, which of course would be diminished against someone like Rebecca, who's beaten her so recently, but still there, I think, just knowing you've got that get out of jail free card up your sleeve when you're under pressure, must just take away off your shoulders, but she was just sublime. Tonight, I thought, absolutely sublime. Yeah, and honestly, it's the type of performance that I think and I hope will make me just, I don't want to say respect for back in a more because I feel like I really do have respect for it. But at the start of this tournament, I was thinking she film tackle sabalenka was going to win it. And I think I probably thought that at the start of the Australian open as well. And, you know, she's the Wimbledon champion. She's your strain open finalist. She's now the Indian Wells finalist who knows maybe even she might win this tournament. It feels like everything she's doing is just elevating her in people's minds and making her more and more part of the main conversation and a performance like that. It was outstandingly good. I mean, it was so good. She had a beat in anyone, I think, today. So, I think Rebecca can apply better today than samba linka. I do. But sabalenka does dominate that. That head to head. She can meet power with power and turn it back on. Some great sounds coming from the crowd when Rebecca connected. I love that sort of gasp and the awe and oh, you know, how she got that one back and hit it that hard. I do think she has that sort of power and ball strike. It goes through you really. It makes you shudder. It doesn't look like a slow court, does it? No. When we're back in this playing. No. Yeah, Daniel Medvedev must not be liking what he's seeing tonight. It's really detracting from his case, the fact that sabal Ingram were back in it. So easily hitting. I'd quite like to get back in the gym, Daniel. I'd quite like to know whose ball goes through the air faster out of Rebecca and Medvedev's. I think Medvedev could probably tell you the I would imagine it is Rebecca's, but she's some player and she's getting better. She is. It's an awesome sight when she plays like that. So it is a replay of the Australian open final and that because arena sabalenka got the better of Maria thackeray in the first singles semifinal of the day, the most notable aspect of which was the ridiculous delay of 40 minutes to the match, but before it got going duty. Now that's faff. Failure of the sound system. Now I'm probably not the best person to talk about this because I was stranded live on air on court with absolutely no VTs to go to because we'd already played them all in the build up. Because this is the thing, the players had got on the buggy, they'd made the journey to the backstage area, which is literally feet away from the court entrance. They're there. The cameras are on them. And it's at the stage where they try and play the build up music, the bells tolling that they play before the players walk on. It was at that stage that they realized, oh, no bells are tolling. This is a bit of a problem. Should we check if Hawkeye lives back at all? That's not working either. I think we might have a problem here. And then you start the DJ starts malfunctioning, and you start hearing sort of two seconds snippets of unidentifiable dance music. Then the DJ sorts himself out and starts belting out David Bowie and you think, okay, we're ready to play some tennis here. Maria Zachary starts walking out onto court and then she has to sort of moonwalk back into the holding area. Because they realize actually we're not in any kind of position to start playing Dennis because the umpires microphone isn't working. The line calling system isn't working and those two things are quite big problems. And then they think they've got it figured out. Both players do walk onto core and then there's about 25 minutes of them on the court in the pounding sunshine and I know they had umbrellas, but it was blooming hot out there. Being incredibly good natured about this sort of indefinite delay to their match, they were sort of in this very weird nether zone of being told you've got to stay here, but we've got absolutely no idea when we're going to be able to fix this problem. That needs work for future so tennis. It was. And especially tennis now that has come to rely on the technology of the line calling system. I don't necessarily think this is an argument that we shouldn't use that technology. I still think, you know, generally it's a good thing. But I was a bit perplexed that because at one point they started putting out chairs for line judges. There was clearly a backup line judge crew available and that you met them probably. I met them. I met them in the tunnel on the way of course. It's an old job, isn't it? Being on standby to be a main judge. I believe. They'd been working on the junior tournament. Okay. But it took a while to scramble them. Yeah. I don't know. And actually, it is a bit of a concern because what a do you literally have a squad of backups who are invariably never going to be used. And then once in a while, they might be required. Yes, they might have had the junior tournament this time, but not everywhere as a junior tournament, does it? And I just, I do think, though, in that instance, well, they do need to have a plan B and I think if ten minutes goes by with no tennis, you've got to get them on and you've got to let them do the first set.

"She doesn't have a gear. She doesn't have a way to adapt, and that has happened in, well, every tournament this year that she hasn't won. And it's yet another straight sets defeat. Against an opponent who can overpower her, who can take the racket out of her hand and that has been the pattern, the whole season. And for me, it's a bit odd because if we go back to the U.S. open, English film tech wasn't playing that well during that tournament, we said it the whole the whole way through the defining feature of film tech at the U.S. open was winning when she wasn't at her best and she talked about not liking the balls there and not liking New York conditions and yet there was a real fight in her. There was a real willingness to adapt in matches and it's gone a bit this season and a lot of that as you've said is because of how good we're back in a while. But I still expected more from the world number one. She's in a rush out there on the court and I think it's become a feature of her dominance that she is no longer looking to engage in Raleigh. She's not looking to work a point. She's looking to end a point. And it's great to watch on one level and it leads to these eager's bakeries kind of performances where she's just beating people love and want. A lot. I mean, it happens so often. Pam driver said on TV the other day. Steffi Graf like. And it is when she's in that sort of form. But the inability or the lack at this point in her certainly her year of turning those matches around when they go against her and they go against her pretty quickly, yeah. And who we've had Jessica bagula, Barbara critique of her back in a twice now. I mean, I think two or three years ago, she was talked about as a player with variety and touch, and I think she does have those things, but it's almost as though she's just put those away the last couple of years because she wanted to focus on dominating matches. And that was more like watching Caroline Garcia than it was. Ash Barty today. Caramel Garcia just going for her shots and standing in on serves no matter what, how many times she Shang in the ball. And that I find that a bit disappointing. It reminded me of the core name match at Wimbledon. Which I know felt like it had been building up. That streak was so exceptional. I don't think any of us picked her to win Wimbledon. We were excited. Okay. Well, I don't think you would have picked her against the field, would you? No, look, of all the grand slams, that's the one that would have been least likely, I think, but don't forget she was on the street then. She just didn't look beatable. corne got her teeth into that match, as she does, it was total panic. For me, get on tech and it was, you know, what's the definition of madness, doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different outcome. And it's this whole tennis player thing of where's the line? Trusting your game and believing in it and what's just madness, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting you to different outcome. And I think it's a really interesting point that in the last year or so, maybe 18 months, she has opted for aggression and now she's in a situation which is totally fascinating where her greatest strength, that ability to dominate that ability to smother opponents is turning into her greatest weakness in matches when she's against a big hitter who can take the record out of her hand. And I find that just so interesting because she doesn't want to give that up. That mindset is what has brought her these extra slams. It's what brought her the 37 match winning streak. It's what made its what's giving her those Steffi Graf like score lines. So I can understand why she doesn't want to abandon it. There must be a part of it that thinks I'm the best player in the world. I need to keep going for my shots and they will start landing and it doesn't matter who the opponent is, but there's enough evidence now to suggest that she needs a plan B yeah, injury, notwithstanding, and that may be a major factor in this score line and in this result, but I think she needs to swallow her pride a little bit when she faces an Elena Rebecca and a hit in the ball like that. An accept, she's not going to be able to necessarily fight firewood foreign an immediately hit a winner off a great, powerful shot. That's coming away. We're not questioning the injury. We're just saying this result doesn't exist in a vacuum. It is. Part of a pattern with eager fun tech and yeah, that bears analyzing injury or not quite frankly. And she was obviously fit enough to compete out there. So even if you're hampered, you can still try different things.

"Wells where are women's singles final lineup is set and tantalizingly it will be a repeat of quite possibly the match of the year so far the Australian open final between arena sabalenka and Elena can I have a yes please. Oh yeah you sure can. Yes please. And with all due respect to Maria sakurai at the point that arena sabalenka booked her spot in the final by virtue of a competitive but convincing straight sets victory, I think. We were then at this stage where I think we knew we were guaranteed a pretty epic final cerberus fonte, yes please. Sabalenka, Rebecca, yes please. So that was a good place to be. I don't think any of us quite expected what we ended up seeing tonight and match that finished not long ago on our screens here at tennis podcast tower a thrashing over the world number one eager fiance there is a lot to talk about David. Yeah, yeah, there is actually, I think, before that match took place between Sri Lanka and Rebecca now. I'd have been a little bit disappointed. Had you told me that sabal and tech was not going to happen in the final, even though we saw that incredible match in the final of the Australian open, it's just been so much at the forefront of our minds, the idea that Schwann tech is the best player in the world and some link is the most recent Grand Slam champion, so them clashing is something to really get excited about. Now that we're in this position and we've just seen the performance that Elena Rebecca had put in, I'm now properly excited about that as a final matchup because suddenly sabalenka and Rebecca look in fantastic form and we know how well they gel as a final. But you're right, there's a lot to unpick because it wasn't just about Elena back in a being good and she was very, very good. That might be the best performance I think I've seen from her. Obviously, she won't Wimbledon. So you've got to put that into it as well, but she was just devastating and reliable all at the same time today. But you guys found tech has talked about having suffered a rib injury in a press conference. She talked about that. And frankly, there was a lot to, I don't know, I don't want to say worry about because I think that that would be going over the top, but there was a lot to ponder from her performance, which may well be affected by her physicality. I hadn't clocked that at the time, it didn't occur to me that she was injured, but how do I possibly know? From the outside, but it was a poor performance. Yeah, and maybe it would have been closer had she not been injured. She tells us she's injured she obviously is injured that it fills in a bit of a blank, doesn't it? Us hearing from Sean tech after the match of the day that she has been suffering with, she called it discomfort in her rib. Because yesterday when she played, there was a significant delay on her coming to press. She gave a time, that time repeatedly got pushed back, didn't it? Which generally is an indicator that sometimes if the player is lost, it can be because they're struggling to go to the loo and in an anti doping situation because players get tested when they, when they lose, we have talked about going to the Lou a lot on these Indian Wells podcasts, haven't we? Thank you, Daniel Medvedev. But generally in that sort of situation, it can quite often be due to a player receiving extended treatment. So it all adds up, but I wasn't watching the match thinking this is a hampered egis von tec, which given the school line is a bit of a surprise, really. The world number one, the dominant world number one defending champion, losing to anybody two and two, ordinarily, you would be starting to speculate about what could be wrong with them, I think. And yet, once the tone of this match was set, I think the tone being what it was was a surprise to all of us, but once the tone of the match was set, the eventual outcome and the trajectory of the match wasn't all that surprising. Yeah, because we've seen it before with film tech, repeatedly this season, including against the same opponent in Australia, and that is that when she starts, you know, being overwhelmed on the court being beaten, there's not much of a plan B for me goes beyond tech. There's not much of an adjustment made. In fact, what she seemed to do today was try and hit the ball harder and harder, which seemed like the worst possible idea to do against Rebecca, especially in this form. Maybe that was an indicator of a bit of injury. You know, she didn't feel that she could tolerate rallies, perhaps quite so much, but gosh, yeah, I mean, we're once again in a situation where eager film tech has looked imperious throughout the tournament, accelerating past opponents, having a different gear, and then as soon as she's being beaten,

"Yeah, I really like this press conference from Fritz. He's a slightly, he's a slight contrast, always think Fritz. I think he has a lot of self confidence, not belief in himself. But I always find him quite he's quite shy, I think. He's quite shy and press conferences. I thought he was quite shy at the Eisenhower trophy cup. One of the two yeah, one of them is the one's fire. Murray. I felt like he was quite shy there as well. And sabalenka was bringing out some personality, but he was quite happy just sort of raining it in a little bit. Anyway, but he does, there's a lot of belief in his own game, I think, and he laid out his goals for the year, which was to finish the season in the top 5 and reach a final at least of a slam. Which, you know, a big goals and ones that I do believe he's capable of, but he knows that he needs to start performing in slams because he hasn't been showing up in those events. But I think the most the most revealing part of the press conference was everything he had to say about Acapulco and the sort of trauma that he went through there. Horror, really. Matt Roberts made him revisit it. Yes, I made him recount in detail, his full body cramps. Well, I didn't make him. He was not he offered it up. Not shy about telling us exactly what that's like. And it was horrendous. Yeah. Couldn't keep any food down, kept throwing up, body cramps, full body cramps throughout the night. Four hours. For several hours. He needed to tune out now if you're eating, but he needed to rehydrate, but then every time he said he couldn't go on an IV because of anti doping rules restricted that. Now, I need to look into that whether it can't be as simple as you can't have an IV, but anyway, obviously in this instance, he felt he couldn't have an IV. So he needed to take fluids on board to hydrate himself, but he couldn't keep them down, so he'd been just a vicious cycle for what would he say three four hours? Yeah. And you were trying to ask him, I think, Catherine, whether he regretted it at all, regretted not withdrawing, not quitting the match, given what it ended up being like. And he said he's only ever done that once, and that was in Washington when he said I was seeing double. This gets down Evans, was it? Yeah, and Dan Evans was a badge of honor that he outlasted. Taylor Fritz, he loved that match. And Fritz said that he made a promise to his team that if he ever felt like that again, he would withdraw. And that was when he felt like that again, so he did pull out. He didn't say that he had made any promises to his team that if he gets full body cramps, he will be pulling out retiring. His line, I think, is such that he just feels like he needs to give everything. And you'll have to carry me off. Literally. And that is such an, you know, we've talked about it in the last couple of weeks. That is section interesting framing, whether that's a good or bad thing. And I just think stubbornness generally is an interesting trait in sport. It can be, it can be a huge positive, and it is for him because his competitive instincts and he probably makes more of his game than what it is, really, because of what a great competitor he is. But at the same time, it can cost you. And he said he doesn't think that the Acapulco experience is going to cost him here. He does feel fully recovered and he's fine. But it could. If you push yourself too far, it can have lasting implications. Yeah. Look out for yourself, Taylor. That's it for your immediate day roundup. We do have a few other things to round up for you though, including the results that we promise to bring you from Sunday's finals that we weren't able to cover in Sunday's podcast, including victory for Donna vekic. And David lore. I was going to say it, David, you didn't even give me. I thought you were going to go with Pam before yourself. Only points so good. Heck of a win. Yeah, Donna. And Pam and David. Yeah. It was a fantastic performance. And brilliant final too. Oh, and I've been meaning to ask you this whole time, David, did you watch the final live? Because you promised to go to bed. And I think texting is, if you want. You went quiet, quite early on Sunday Night. Yeah, because basically my plane was taking off at 6 25 a.m., which meant a 3 a.m. alarm call, and the final was due to take place at an 11 p.m. star. Yeah, 11 p.m.. So I finished my packing at about ten 40. Let's say that around that. And I'm about to go to bed, and I'd been watching something that evening, I can't remember what it was. The golf, I'd been watching the golf, that was it. And the golf finished or at least got to a point where I know who's going to win, so okay. And then I just sort of, I just want to see if they're on court yet. And so I watched the knock up, and then I got ready for bed and I was and then I thought I'll keep it on while I'm just getting ready for bed. I just watched the first set. So I watched the first set, and then I went to sleep, right? And then I'd set my thought, if I sit my alarm clock, half an hour early, and just press pause now on the app. We are such different people. I'll just be able to pick it up while I'm getting ready to get in my last getting my breakfast and getting everything ready. And I did. The numbers don't add up here. The gap between going to sleep and setting the alarm isn't long enough to get to school. No, I had four hours sleep, right? I had four sleep, and then what and the problem was, Donna vekic, playing brilliantly, wins the first set, and then goes to love up in the second. So I'm thinking, oh, this is easy. I'll easily get this in before the taxicabs. And then the comeback started and Caroline Garcia got 5 games in a row. She played amazing stuff. This really was a superb final. And then the third set was just classic championship match, final set stuff, where both players are pushing each other to the absolute limit. Garcia was the better player for much of that deciding set. I mean, I did feel like vekic was the better player on the whole overall over the course of the match, but she was getting the chances cars here in the design is set, but vec is just would not let her have it and she has I mean, I think it was power move really drew my attention to the capability of vicious serve. I don't think I'd ever really grasped how potent that serve is when it works. And she was just no matter how many break points she faced down. She was just able to see them off with a good first server or a good combination. And this grit there as well. She just showed such heart and stayed with Garcia until that 12th game and then broke. It was a brilliant brilliant match. Do you give her a chance here, Becky? I would say no. I just think there are so many good players playing at the probably at the top of the games. There are better players in this drawer than non a wreckage. Yugoslavia, arena sabalenka, bob or a critique of it. I'm not exactly sure what wreckage is drawn. Third round. I mean, look, I think she's capable of beating sabalenka. I mean, she's beaten as several times before when we came to that match in the Australian open eye.

"Haven't played ever on girls before addicting. They've paid each other for a few years. So the quite interesting to see how this one goes I picked curb for the semi-solid she. Which is i think the prediction. I've got right this whole fortnight. Yes you've been telling me this about like six times over the last week. I'm so delighted. I was yeah. Really cheering cabral on this This week and i mean. I like macabre and great. She's only played. I think the major of wimbledon twice and she's reached the quarterfinals pave times that i think she's a third woman in wimbledon history to do that so she does love girl. School does make of a cable was able to come through In straight-sets sixty six three and Which surprised my thought this. At the capacity to go three sets by think cub it was very efficient when it came to converting the chances that she did have you know four six break points When it when push came to shove just stepped up again. I think the of a full hand was was quite off in this match and she just wasn't at the races. No it was not good. There are a lot of unforced errors particularly from the check. Twenty seven in total six more than covers but. Yeah it was interesting to hear from recover afterwards she. She obviously went in with a game plan but she was not able to execute it and actually she was very much kind of rushing. Lots of points. And that's what i think led to a lot of these kind of unforced ariza. She wasn't really playing. In the moment she was kind of visualizing. I think maybe one two steps ahead of rather than thinking about the you know the net shop and again i think with someone like angelique kerber opposite year. Such a defensive minded of counterpuncher style a player. I think you really need to face someone of covers ability. You really did each one point of time because she can create such unique angles. I think on the call and move move your she moves her opponents about the court very very well and you know it's it's another very fascinating story on hit because cuppa. She won wimbledon. In in two thousand eighteen speech serena williams. We will remember that. But since then she's really done nor law and she wasn't able to obviously grosses is arguably her best surface and she wasn't able to pay on it in in two thousand nineteen because of the pandemic and the fact that she is coming into this one winning one of the Cross lead up. Events gang to the semifinals is. Everybody has may be fake. Whoever she is one of the most unfortunate players in terms of not having that cross cool season loss in two thousand nineteen because it does seem to elevate her game. Yeah a in twenty twenty joe. He was saying means getting confused. Because it's euro twenty two hundred twenty magical messed up. Yeah i really knew what was cool. Was this kind of renascent from kerber. Take new if she changed setup. All something's going on in her past life for it but it is really nice to see her finally back up at this level of islam. And you just getting that toy too. I think you know at home in germany. Just the confidence of match wins. And she'll say behave ping if she does get past balti she'll be hoping place grid in the final because apparently cub never lost to czech player as a grand slam tournament. Say i think that's what she'll behaving for. She does make the final. But i mean let's just cut of bake some predictions shall we joe because see. We've got fishkhabur against lenka bossy against curb. I mean who do you think we're going to be seeing in the women's final. come saturday. well. I mean we talk about balti- versus kerber. This for me is the i think for me. This is the balki this is the bulky semifinal by players. Just you know that already. I think very much kind of fan favorites with the crowds for different reasons. I think and i think she's obviously been at this stage before. And you talk about know confidence and i think that is one of the things that has kind of led her to this point you know. She's had if payments along along the way she had that very tense match that very long match against three best tool mo- she was down to sosevic as well. And i think you know one another you know another day You know a year or two ago. I think kerber would have just sort of wilted in and gone out rather meekly but as you said. I think the confidence she's paying with at the maidment has really kind of helped turn. I think she will. She will need all of that. I think when she comes up against bharti. And i think this could really play out like that saribas told by batch. I don't see this big. I feel i feel like this could be very much a battle of a lot of extended rallies. It could feel like about the you. Look at all the time it takes to to face. It could feel like it's the klay cool because base players is not an necessarily known for hitting aggression and not. Win is so yeah. It's gonna be a very interesting tactical battle. I think it might. It might show us. I think how you who's got the better. I think tennis mind and and being able to kind of adapt on the call. I mean if you're gonna also became who i'm still going for. I'm still going to guy with faulty. I just think she's been playing some very very good tennis. Just come through with minimal. Fuss and i think maybe she'll come through against cub by certainly think it's going to go into three sets. I wonder if kerber having played so much more tennis as well. In the las t weeks with that title and having the longer matches hair as well especially that saribas tool may match. I wonder if that might come into it like a bit of fatigue. Yeah i think three sets. I have a feeling of outcome. I'm gonna cover okay. I'm tight in really tight. Three a the other semifinal piscopo blanca. I feel like sampling linka is. I think her game might suffer as a result of pressure. I feel like she..

"On this mission. I don't. I don't see how anybody is going. To end. up stopping novak djokovic. But it can happen it can happen and fitch. I think will bring everything he's got. I think he'll be fresh enough. I think you'll play well. And i think he'll put a good account of himself up. I just doubted. Ob enough to win. Three or four sets to djokovic hatun of against shut the valve the other to the to court woman. The most interesting they all. It's it's hutch. Shop evolve at one pm. Followed by bertini will sharon ese. I'm assuming champ all evolve embarassing anyone when he is saying well. It will shop develops quarter. Yeah i mean i had. I had bertini my semifinals at the start of the tournament. But i hadn't. I was during in release. That we've been seeing pre-wimbledon. This does feel like his moment. I if you'd show me that drew pre tunnel under said yet thirteen. But i just feel feel less sure about it. Should it should felix jana same. Change something. I just wonder whether i kind of feel it the way. You beat bertini's by handcuffing in depth. I think if you try out hit him. I don't see how charity seems game though. Yeah it could. I'm not sure i'm not sure. I think i always used to think that was or is your elliot's seems game. And he said. I think when he came through there. A lot of comparisons with djokovic. Virginia the more we've got to known as a player the more we realized. Actually he's really aggressive like this in particular. The thing that's got him here is to be hugely aggressive. Not that he can't rally but see can destroy tennis exactly. That's an interesting point. I hadn't hadn't about the matchup could not really in just a bit. I try and be consistent. I mean put bertini serve is a bigger weapon than usually seems pretty much anybody else in the drawer. The full hundred pretty cool. Bertini probably has a few extra most proud building. A huge weapons back cans phoenix. Probably probably has. It doesn't have as much. Burr teens really developed the slice. But i know. I think thing that could be quite tight tiebreaks. Yeah yeah. I think it could be as much as anything about how they handle facing each other. I mean that they are really good friends. And that i make for the so felix orasure seems go. It really is good luck to them. Both shane us to be a loser. And all of that jazz. Nobody's onto my hatching of chiappa valve question. Who's going to win. Aren't gonna to go up above. She could be on for five or six so yeah that would be impressive. Say but i'm yeah. Look out that and Well there is actually a bit more before we finish. Joe because although it's very much right and garros we've got the star of the girl season happening like as we speak about tomorrow technically today rather not thing. Yeah we've nottingham. Nottingham in stuttgart stuttgart starts on tuesday. I have i'm really fascinated. See the joy out yet. Imagine there's been a lot of Withdraw rules and what no. I'm sort of curious. That draw looks like it was a grad is guy gone for the men but we do have the w. two fifty event in nottingham. Joe concer is the top seed Alison risk is the second see. Donovan catches their So yeah it's i mean it's an interesting. It's an interesting one because as the counter top seed. You would hope that she would be able to potentially do you. Well here You know there's a lot of as you can imagine. There's not a lot of big big names as it's definitely some players in there who you would say kind of strong cross risk in in vacuum which By really think the in from a content perspective. This is know this really now is the opportunity to to really kind of rejuvenate and kick start her season. She's a decent. Draw you to get the quarters for sure. But my eyes are on allison risk at the bottom of the draw. Thank you know. She has such a girl scout specialist. Lauren davis as well decent gross. I a plays radiates be very hard to predict this wadden. I see emirati cardi doll in the first round so all british in counter and it will be interesting to see how the likes of katie boulter. Get on francesca jones yet as a braids in action and it will be so nice to have girls schools back you know. We had zero girls action loss. Gsa it'll be delightful. Have it on again and got the challenger as well for the men Happening at the same time anti murray is not their most nature play But we do have data evans as the top seed for that one. Yeah and and francis. Oh so there's definitely plays there who wouldn't necessarily be playing on the challenge tour but want to start the season and get matches in potentially get a competitive advantage over those players who are still left. A in in roland garros. I mean kevin since the fourth seed in an atp It's like it's not your regular rather the bill challenger is it's a it's a it's a pretty. It's a pretty good drool But we'll see how that one pans out as you said andy murray is not there. He decided against taking. I think a wildcard into it he is. I think at the all. England club practicing of queens. Say that's that's going to be his Path into in into queens in a while in into weeks time. uk listeners. wondering what. I watch this on tv. I also notice joel. That you've made a note properly fermoy info that lucas russell is an action in nottingham. I already ratified listening we. Yeah that's An interesting note. We we wait to be supporting him. I sound evil tonight. But there's bad blood you also asked me where is where is casey manali. Why where is she. She'll play doubles with coq. Golf wise venus williams. She's in she is in north give. She is at the drool as well as i think. She pays a qualifying round one. So casement nali yet. She is here. She didn't why she's in paris but yes she is playing on the gross in indeed. Yeah coke wait for is at a how we're going to follow bayfront shaping out all the action in nottingham. It's great to have. But i must say like i'm going to have to have like four screens four screens. Say yeah. golden is how that's going to happen. But i think that brings us to a close today. "He's having a good having a good tournament. Lost six one six four but also sake of secon split up with her adad as a cage so that something something interesting that it's happened you know. This is just the first time it's happened and we shouldn't be surprised that she's in round four because you know she's shown in the past the when whenever she's been playing terribly or we think she's been playing terribly in the the woman she's able to bring it out on the on the biggest stage of all and thing that shows a lot about her her mentality in our approach. The fat i think she is a big game player. She might not necessarily be like a a caroliina fishkhabur for example. Who normally sort of racks up the. Yeah the the the titles on the on the on the w. t. a tool but not necessarily as able to translate that to slams. Well it feels. Like kenan is the the complete opposite end of the spectrum. Yeah that's a very good point. She she knows when to bring it doesn't shave at the she. She brings a when it matters. And that is the slams. I think also you know she. She kind of has it where she wants it because she doesn't like tapping the pressure in the tool can expectation on her. Say the fact that she's the fourth seed and we're not really talking about her Perhaps now it's probably what she wants. She doesn't need tension a now. I don't know if i was her. You know i'd want to be in that situation. So yes she may. She flounder the radar but she may go deep. She's got maria sakari next He came through against the lease martians. Anything kenan could could win that one Having a great tournament she actually said she went away for a holiday before coming to paris. Which i think is obviously done done. Wonders pops up the recipe for success. She went to a nice little greek island which sounds ovallis so can her ideal kind of lead up to talk lose really badly to play but sakari approach is having a have a nice little holiday have unless the whole lay destination and chill out is at the is that the is that the approach. Yeah i mean if i had cheese one approach definitely gave call reason. Yeah beach not playing tennis for five days that that will definitely yeah perhaps work. What magic. But i'm also you just mentioned creek. She she beats. Serena in straight-sets Yesterday which was perhaps a bit of a surprise at the school. I and it was six. Three six t But see she's playing really well. She had a good good running ramos. Well say off to see. See how she She how she continues going through the drew. And then just the night on sloan stevens. Well who's say still going strong at much too. I think most people surprise as she came through against carrying a merkava. He was it. All collector set at the wrong in my prediction as a result of his match. But yeah it's nice against cease slain putting some much wins together and she is a great move on clay like we know she can play like streaming you well on this surface. She's been to a final and It's a long time coming. The she's kind of back in this kind of vein of form is perhaps. I think she's actually across. Both joel's is perhaps the most pleasing is the most pleasing victories. i think i'm seeing a founded. The movement is is this rise of saint stephen's and again. She looked very very good against carolina. Macabre six three seven five. She's reached the fourth tau fourth round here for the seventh time she loves you. She's think movement is one of the biggest strong points and it's it helps have in paris and although record has been not kind of yeah coming into the classes and she's really been able to build up a head of steam and it's really been great to see. I think she plays cocoa gulf next. Who came through jennifer braid age brady unfortunately had to retire. I think her movement was hump to pampered by her foot. Took golf won. The fess at six one and brady kind of cool there day but yet coca gulf slain stevens that is going to be another blockbuster encounter from two players. Who will i think. I think that will be very.
