"So I have one coach of of a power 5 conference say he retweeted something of off of Stan Van Gundy. That was anti Trump and the next day. He had a a big donor column up blasting. That's probably the problem like because if you do that, you've got guys with a lot of money off. Our truck guys are going to be mad you do the other way. You've got players who are coming from maybe not always the best backgrounds and they're going to be like, why would I go play for this month? Like he doesn't get what I'm going through. So I guess getting back to my original where you would be you would be it'd be a tough position either way, right? You're a coach. So most are just off sticking out of it. But when I talked to him, it's interesting the difference of a lot of people some will say off the Record that they're voting for Trump. You could tell a lot of times who they are because a lot of them again, like listen, I just want to I want to play basketball. I just want to have basketball and I think Trump gives us the best chance to have a season in my tank as you said earlier is off we in it for the student welfare at the end of the day, how are you going to feel? If somebody luckily we haven't had anything in college football. We've been really fortunate lately. We haven't been fortunate all it takes is one. Do you and I are over, you know, maybe we're being overbearing down here and and and worrying too much. I don't know but I honestly did think by this point with as many college football games have been played. I thought we'd be looking at something major that would happen. So thank God we haven't it maybe again maybe kids wouldn't you rather exercise on the the precipice of caution? Because if it dies if he's not going by that's it and you're going to feel pretty goddamn shity. If you put them out there when he had already tested positive and or you know, ten years. This will say you're saying to his parents. I'm going to take care of him and send him into adulthood with a degree and with the the building blocks to be successful and now he's he's gone. No question. No qualms. All right. We got NFL football college football. You may not be at a game this year, but you can still be in on the action at BetOnline NFL Futures Kansas City Chiefs.

How Will Stan Van Gundy Fit With the Pelicans?

"Was a few weeks ago in the ringer NBA show that at the very tail end of the show I recall you saying. Keep an eye out for Stan van Gundy and New Orleans and since we last spoke That came to fruition Stan Van Gundy was hired by David Griffin and the New Orleans Pelicans I think when this all started with the pelicans ouster of Alvin gentry. Through the. Face Tyler had a former relationship with David. Griffin, we talk about my Tony possibly because he had a former relationship via the Phoenix Suns with David Griffin but they do land on Stan van, Gundy as their next head coach when you saw that news come across the wire, would you think great I'm happy I think he could bring some accountability to the team in terms of how much they need it on the defensive end of the floor they were horrific. On defense this season in San Andy. Of course, infamously famously I'm not sure once said build an effing wall and that the Pelicans need to do and I look forward to see what he can do now that he's back in the NBA but by the way like he failed in Detroit because he was coach. Angie 'em now he's just a coach right and he was always a good coach. He was good basketball coach and it was one of those cautionary tales of. It is two different skill sets number one it also in many cases can be two different motivations right if I am if I am the general manager and the coach now let's say I make a poor signing or a poor usage of money will sometimes I may want to use that guy to prove that I was right about this guy right and I know that you Still get into that with with a front offices and coaches anyway, right in in everybody wants to be responsible everybody wants to be right about the move they made. But when you then you're not doing the scouting of every other team on a regular basis, I know you have scouts you're certainly not doing that with college, but it's just a very hard job to do twofold and. Another cautionary tale of taking that over I mean everybody wants that power but I think we've seen two of these guys. Now fact three of these guys. Now, all of which I think you would say were subpar to very below average in that role but. We respect them as guys that are on the sidelines as basketball coaches. That is their expertise in that is doc rivers who took on that role Tom Thibodeau who took on that role and Stan Van Gundy who took on that role and yet got hired as coaches though it didn't go well at their last stops. I mean doc better than the other two but we thought. Hires because these guys are good basketball coaches who were miscast trying to run everything for sure absolutely and ultimately it's another good opportunity for him when New Orleans area there even though they have Zion, they have ingram granted these a restricted free agent. He'll likely back matched any offer sheet or whatever This is still sort of A. Team right now that can go in many different directions depending on how David Griffin wants to build it out and I look forward to seeing the ways in which Van Gundy, Utilize Zion and the ways in which he tries to get him going off because remember you know before all the three point shooting, we've seen the last ten years or so that has. Exploded with the warriors and the rockets and all these teams shooting lot of threes, the magic, Dwight Howard at center and four shooters around him in the late two thousands with anti head coach and they went to a finals. We're going to be lost to Kobe and the Lakers The had some good run they some really strong teams and in with Williamson. With the New Orleans Pelicans, I know they want to add another they don't want to go like all small Wall. With Zion at the five all the time it's it's just went to work but I, think van Gundy's pasts and what he could do now with this roster, it's kind of exciting to think about the possibilities with the different ways in which they can use ion but most importantly though and again, this is like with all the coaching hires we talk about I am more interested in the personnel changes who they draft, who do they try to trade for? Who Do they try to sign I am WHO's coaching the team, but you know I'm excited to see if they're able to get. Zion, going and creative ways that they weren't able to do as much during the season despite his success he posted up a lot man I. WanNa see some more pick and roll with Zion I wanNA see some more creativity with him, handling the ball and running pick and roll, and that will largely come from other personnel changes that come to the roster that allow that to happen. But Hey, man SVG had success with some different types of teams in the past and I look forward to seeing what he can do here with him, and that team has a good roster they under performed badly. Made sometimes teams underperformed because you look at their roster and you go man aol have the goods like that team underperformed I. Think so too. I think of course it I mean look I mean Lonzo I think Lonzo hit one shot in the bubble well, even though they're young that defense was bad even though they had good individual defenders, they've jrue holiday one of the best perimeter guard defenders, Ingraham and Lonzo. They were good defenders of the Lakers. They were the last two years. They were good. They were not good defenders last season with New Orleans. And Zion I, mean he was horrific. He was so bad on defense. It was it was really sad to watch. This is the guy who is blocking three point shots closing out from the opposite side of the paint at Duke just a year prior, which is why people wonder how much of it was fatigue coming back but season how much of it was the injury limiting him how much of it was effort I? Don't know I don't know what it was but regardless. He stunk on defense, and all of this needs to change next season for this team to be anything that have any chance of actually getting into the playoffs it can't be all

"Yes. This is who I'm voting for. Like two five. Yes. That's broken. All five or Biden. A really. Rely On. You. Think our get do think I would get one one coach to actually admit they're voting for trump on the record. No. Not One Not. Spicier that. Out of three hundred if I if I pulled three, hundred, fifty seven, do you think I'd get one? No because I think that. With, his policies I think that the kids recruiting already look in the I be like this is what I'm doing be tough, but it's funny. So so a lot of the coaches have told me I can't even say Biden. Like I have one coach. Tell me I re tweeted something. Stan van Gundy tweeted I. Don't know if you follow Sam ban on on twitter I. See every once in a while upset follow like the NBA he crushes trump crushes. So I have one coach of a power five conference say he tweeted something of? Stan Van Gundy Hired as Coach of the New Orleans Pelicans

"Van Gundy is going to be the new head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans, and Van Gundy has had a successful coaching career. He has been in the playoffs every year, except one in every year that he's coached a full season. He is well, I shouldn't say that Up until Detroit he had made the playoffs every single year. He was a head coach and then missed the playoffs three out of four years in Detroit. So some of that magic had rubbed off by the time that he got to the Detroit Pistons, but he has Plus 500 win percentage over the course of his career in the regular season. 5 77. He's also plus 500 in his postseason playoff career at 5 27. You might remember. He originally was the head coach in Miami for the heat, and he had helped build that team into a contender they had traded for Shaquille O'Neal. Aftershock. Shot his way out of town in Los Angeles and couldn't coexist with Kobe. And going into the 0506 ease that they had just come out of the Eastern Conference finals, Remember? And so Miami was poised to maybe make a run of the N BA finals. He still had shack near a dominant portion of his career kind of coming out of it, but still still pretty dominant, and Dwayne Wade was ascending. And Pat Riley Bogard the team within the 1st 25 games, and either he didn't like the way things were going where the players didn't like Stan Van Gundy, But Riley swooped in. He was the GM swooped in, took over as the head coach. And rode it all the way to that. 06 N B, a Finals championship. At that point in time. Obviously, Van Gundy is now percent non grata in my Abbey, five. The job in Orlando gets the job in Orlando and gets them to the N B, a finals and another conference finals. It's kind of hard to believe, but the Orlando Magic within the last decade We're the en Bas Finals and Eastern Conference finals when they had Dwight Howard to the peak of his powers, and that was a stand. Van Gundy team. Van Gundy then got fired after a couple of first round exits and landed in Detroit, and we got all the personnel control Detroit that did not go well. As I mentioned before miss the playoffs three out of four years at the Blake Griffin edition, ultimately only made the playoffs once and got swept in the first round. So Van Gundy's abilities that he had in Miami and Orlando really took a hit in Detroit. Now he's become a very entertaining broadcaster. He's a great interview. He's smart. He's funny. He's self deprecating Stan Van Gundy. He's a really good listen, but is he a good head coach anymore? I've got my doubts because When he won. He had veteran guys that had already established themselves as stars or were establishing themselves. A star's already in Miami with shock and Dwayne Wade Wade was relatively young but still was Already ascending into one of the best players of basketball in Orlando. Same thing with Dwight Howard and company in Detroit. It was trying to fix it. They couldn't fix it. And now in New Orleans, it's a completely different challenge. That's a thing that has not accomplished anything. And they're all young players. And this is about the development of Brandon Ingram Specifically, and Zion Williams. Those the two guys the biggest potential on that roster logs, those good Alonso is never going to be with Ingram or specifically, Zion could be and science the big one. If you get Zion to the next level. Then the pelicans get to the next level. If he doesn't, then they don't and the pelicans enter the bubble after that long hiatus and had the inside track to make the playoffs and flamed out. We're going to know immediately whether Stan Van Gundy is a good coach or not immediately. He's a guy that can rub guys a little bit of the wrong way. He can have that Van Gundy hard ass attitude. He's very quick. He's willing to call you out in the media. We remember him and Dwight Howard uncomfortably shoulder to shoulder arm over the shoulder. You know, guys sometimes don't like you. And if they don't like it, you're out of there. If the pelicans missed the playoffs this upcoming season, Van Gundy's going to have to take the fall for that He's going to take the blame. There's a lot of potential on that roster a lot. And Zion is ready to explode, and Ingram showed last year the type of player he could be team him with his eye on with Alonso and the rest of that roster. There's no excuse to miss the playoffs over full season with the pelicans. Van Gundy better get them there, or else he's gonna look like just a really good quote and a good broadcaster. That doesn't deserve to be getting head coaching jobs any more after that, and Detroit

"I don't think they would with them. I think they would let it ride. Be interesting boy. I get mine that I think I probably I think you'd have to do it. But they have they've gone to bat for Coach Miller every step of the way. They have they have now. It's starting to hurt him recruiting rods. Finally. They got fortunate two years ago. They picked up Nico mannion and Josh green and seek knowledge. He was a little bit less heralded, but they got lucky this year. If you look at the roster, it's like seven of the Thirteen players are international kids all freshmen. So I think it's starting to catch up with them. I think ultimately they either make the move with him or hears 140 Rob. Here's one to watch He's boys with Stan Van Gundy very very close and girls just just go home go to the pros beat it out of there. I mean, that's what he should do. If he can get on standby Santa been taken care of it is so right right where it's like it's coming down at USC. I'm taking the Seahawks job and then it'll be dead. I'm looking it's not like she's on another can't coach. I mean he his team did Xavier were awesome. His team's Arizona before all this were were really good. I mean he he can really coach so it's not like he should be in demand and he's also he's got the demeanor for that. There's no but he doesn't he's a little he's a little high strong. He is high strong, but just from I mean he recruited me and just from being offered him a little bit. I really think that the NBA is it's so different if you're in the system man, right, right your life is awesome. Like no blame falls on you all the groundwork goes off like the video guys like the guys you basically just like present some information. I honestly believe Jeff that know and I think there are systems to do a really good job in the NBA but one of your truck rolls there is being just a sounding board for the Players and under cuz you understand most of those guys have played or coached at that level to get what they're going through. You know, you have to kind of birth That guy that can kind of help some of these dudes through this. It's not necessarily as much as you think I feel like you have people below you can do like my buddies a video guy for the Lakers he gets driven now, he's learning. I mean he's trying to move his way up, but I really and now it's paying off. I mean, he's an NBA channel. I know but like I really think that he he could float control and eventually you get you can get higher the NBA regardless of what look at look at who's look at all the situations, you know, we've kind of guy to get hired that have that have had some issues in college, isn't I agree with you in a lot of ways like I think Sean Miller, you're right. He could he could relax a little bit as an assistant coach. The pressure is not on you so you don't have it only do basketball. Yes. I'm asleep. Do you like the game? You love life coach is perfect. Yeah..

"The star of the bubble. Knock it off and I've had about enough of this stop you from doing it. Off. He's The star the bubble TNT TBS. And I'm curious what you make of the reaction to the guys protesting the NBA players protesting, what was your reaction to the reaction? Not because I know you're supporting the players. Well I mean, the reaction is sort of all over the place. I mean I think it depends on what you're talking about I. Think there's a lot of people who are very proud of what they did You. Know Listen. Here's the thing is. They have caught criticism a little bit on both sides. So there's the shut up and dribble crowd who doesn't think they should have been kneeling and doesn't think they should be you know taking this action not to play but then there's also people who think they're not doing enough. This is just symbolic doing anything. So they're setting on both sides and to me it's unstated both ways I mean these are young people. Who are seeing problems? They are taking action trying to do things draw attention to the issue and even trying to find solutions and a lot of initiatives that they're supporting and they're frustrated and yet they haven't. Figured out the best way to do this I, mean my question to the people. I have two questions for the people who are criticizing them and number. One is, what's your solution then and number two is what are you doing? because. Are, trying and I think they should be commended and I understand the frustration day seal will what they're doing work. We'll bring change I don't know there's a lot of people out there working trying to bring change, and if there were good or easy answers to this, we'd already have these things song. So I applaud them in trying to figure it out I think they'll today and try to figure out their best path forward and there's a lot of things to consider by all respect to the players for what they're trying to dell stand. What would you like to see them do next? You know that's an interesting. Question because I don't know the answer either I mean I think in one way they have a bigger platform while they're playing but is that platform the best way to achieve change or could they be home in their cities? Working with grassroots organizations are where their presence brings more people into the fold, and maybe there's protests have more of an impact on local leaders. I think that's some of the things the players are trying to. Figure out right now is the way they can have the most impact and that's why I respect what they're doing. I really do think that's their decision. They want to impact the situation and they're trying to figure out the best way to do it and I'm not sure anybody can say for sure what the best way is you said what you would ask shut up and dribble people but what do you make of the shut up and dribble people like what's happening there? Well I I mean bears. I think in all of us. At times whatever the issues are, and it's different for different people all too often our answer is we just want to go into denial, and so I think there's the crowd that wants to think everything is great in this country and there's no problem with racial oppression and things like that, and when they sit down to escape or have fun in their world and watch a game, they don't WanNa be confronted with an. Reality, they just want to live in their world where they can enjoy the basketball and not have to face the issue that that's what I think is going on and You know there's a there's a lot of denial out there on a lot of different things. But certainly when it comes to race, I think a lot of a lot of people of my skin color are very uncomfortable talking about it and they don't want it surrounding their face. You reacted to an NPR report the alleged kenosha shooter seventeen year old blue lives matter supporter described himself as a member of a local militia. To the city to assist police according to videos posted on social media you reacted with there are no blue lives. There are no blue people being a police officer is the job they chose it as a public job paid for by us. It is the civic responsibility of the people to hold public officials accountable protesting against police brutality is not hating police as regards the division that we have in this country. About the police what does Stan Van Gundy need people to know on that front? Well I. Yeah. What I wanted people to know what I was trying to say there is I think too. Often we get. You know forced into these. False choices at least people try to force us into you know are you for the protesters or are you for the police? Well, that's not the issue. The issue is. We have a real problem here in our criminal justice system from policing through the courts and the prisons and everything else in terms of the way that black people are disproportionately discriminated against and that's the issue and so. I want to. Have that yes, you address that doesn't mean I police officers but this idea. that. Police officers can't be held accountable and people talk. Oh, they have a hard job. Yes. They do. They chose it nobody chose people act that's their skin color and They're they're being discriminated against and victims of police brutality and victims of racial pressure because of the color of your skin. Police are being criticized for the actions of some in a job. They show that there's no equivalency there whatsoever and they chose the job and here's the reality. When you are in any public job, I don't care if you're an elected official or you're a police officer or anything else. Repay for it. We pay for it and we not only have the right but the responsibility to hold you accountable and if you're uncomfortable with that being held accountable, then find another job. We come back with Stan van Gundy after this..

"Could we try to vanilla? I think it would fit my vibe better. For Bundling. Go to GEICO DOT COM today. Stan van Gundy join us in about twelve minutes on the Shell Pennzoil Performance Lot Yes Stan in about twelve minutes and Sally Jenkins who wrote something as she often does very strong for the Washington Post about everything happening in Washington I don't know Stugatz if you have had to climb over the payable paywall of the Washington Post to read just how dirty and lascivious some of the Washington executive behavior was around their cheerleaders. I know many of you are tired of the social justice causes with your sports I. Think it's inevitable that it is It is basically something that is soaking into every aspect of almost everything you're watching in sports right now and as it comes to the Washington football team when you have baked into the bread. And I know many of you are going accuse me of being extra woke care because you're men and you're you're listening to this and you're like I like my cheerleaders I like my ring girls will you can't be. So woke that you eliminate my ability to Ogle the cheerleaders and the ring girls. But what ends up happening when that is such an expected understood objectification it's not a big leap for the owner of the team to think the cheerleaders are his playthings as well. And so what you have in Washington Is a situation where a whole lot of women are coming forward and saying Oh, this was contaminated. This was poisoned what they were doing with the cheerleaders and some of the details, and then you get into the next step on this, which is to God's. The argument that you have about cancel culture and the taking of teams away from owners Mark Cuban objected to the slippery slope of that when it was Donald Sterling it's the only time we've seen it happen over a social cause and I would say to you that the only reason it happened with Donald Sterling. Was not the racism it's because all the other owners were tired of him embarrassing them specifically in the racism was the. Last drop, and so the NFL here that claims to care about punishing things that stain the shield. What's IT GONNA? Do to Daniel Snyder when it stains the shield this way when the stain, it's something that is sexual objectification in a way that's kind of appalling and seems a part of the culture of what it is that you were doing as business. You were entitled to these women because you were the man in power with money. Daniel Snyder must feel the heat of this given that he was striding before and he's changed the name of his team given that he hired a a black president. My guess he's trying to ward off whatever it is. That is coming his way because these reports in this reporting is so damning as it relates to the Washington football team, I genuinely do wonder whether these owners have had enough of Daniel Snyder because that's the only reason that an owners actually ever GonNa get gone because the other guys in the club want him gone I know silver gets a lot of credit for coming down hard on the racism. The other owners wanted sterling gone. That was a good enough excuse because he'd done enough bad I don't think that you have that situation in in the NFL and I would say to you. If you really care about women and it's not just about putting on your fields when it Su. If you really care about women, you might WanNa look into what's going on in Washington and make that punitive because the reporting is really damning. You do wonder where he stands with the other owners in terms of do you know do they like them? Do they want them out of the club? It is important to point out I, think that Daniel Snyder is denying all the direct allegations coming his way from a lot of these stories, of course, an awful lot of women. "Day this story from Business Week, we'll get to Stan van Gundy in a second is one of the reasons I believe was pretty high up on the list that Lebron James ended up choosing Los Angeles. Instead of any place else. A New Story Lebron James is building a new media company that aims to give a voice to black creators and consumers who have been pandered to ignored or under served, and he just got a hundred million dollar investment to build a media empire out there, so he is going to take the lead with some action on giving some power. He's always. Always empowered a his friends in a way that has been admirable. Now he's going to empower his community I need to make an on air correction because God says you know as a lifelong jets fan apparently doesn't even know what position Jamal Adams plays because he's a strong safety because he just kept saying free safety over and over again, he's a safety. Thank you. So Stan Van Gundy with us now on. He's on your team and your best players to God's I. Feel like he wants to get off of my team. These all he had to dirt for two or three seasons I've had to endure for forty five years I mean give me a break. All right so Stan van Gundy is on with us on ESPN radio. I. Haven't talked to Stanton about any of the things. That are going on in America here recently, so let's start with the the latest shiny op. The latest shiny object what happened with NASCAR? What do you do? How did you experience all of that? Well. I wasn't surprised when I first heard the story that you know There would be a racist incident in in Nascar. I mean you know I. It's a sport whose? Whose fans pro I would say if we did you know a demographic study of all sports? Fans in the United States Nascar's would probably hold the most racist attitudes so It wasn't surprising. It's virtually all white sport for the participants They have one driver in there. You know highest series, so I wasn't surprised. It turned out. I guess to not have been something that happened or at least not nothing that happened You know recently, so you know I? But the racism still to me is is a story. Look at they got rid of confederate flags, and they had protests them for banning confederate flags I. Mean I think that tells you all? You need to know about their fan base. What do you make of Jerry? Jones is silence at this time Stan. We're not hearing from a whole lot of owners in their own words. No we're not at all You know. I I think the NBA owners have been fairly supportive. Look I mean I think There were somebody I. I read something the other day where seven NFL owners made million dollar donations to trump's. Inaugural campaign, and so I I think that gives you an idea of where at least several NBA NFL owners and politically, and I think most of the people who take those stances politically are worried more about the protests and the protest stores. Than they are about what they're protesting, and so the fact that we haven't heard from Jerry Jones or any other specific owner I don't think number one should be. especially surprising you know. Look I mean the other thing is is all of these owners I think? Don't want to offend. Any of their fans, and so they're not gonNA. Say anything one way or another I mean they want. Every single patriot and you know coming through the turnstiles whenever we open back up and they want everybody turning on the TV and and watching them so expecting that we're going to get courage in. The area of social justice from Sports, teams owners I think is delusional. Stan if you were if you were. Coaching would you be comfortable coming to this state and playing in that bubble? I'd probably do it. You know I mean I just sort of I. Guess the way we're conditioned in sports, but I tell you That I have concerns about the whole thing and I know they're shared by a lot of people, and I have a specific concern for the coaches because. I, you know. Some of those guys are a little older. Some of them aren't have had health. Concerns and We've seen you know with college, Football and tennis tournament with Bitch and women's soccer team here in Orlando that you know I. It's been perilous when you bring groups together in close proximity, the coaches are going to be you know sitting in huddles with guys who are going to be breathing hard and everything else. Yeah, I'm I'm very concerned. About them and I'd probably be a little scared if I was the one happened to do it. He's an analyst for TNT AND NBA TV. Our Friends Stan van Gundy with us on ESPN radio. What did you make of what a mess baseball made? As it always does before finally getting back to work or deciding that they had parameters to get back to work. Yeah I just. I didn't get it. I mean four. For what the owners ended up getting out of this, which is fewer games because they've calculated obviously that they're going to. loses money so for whatever they saved didn't plan ten to fourteen fewer games and everything, the long term damage, not only to the sport, but to their relationship with their players I think you know. The NFL's different because they've had their players under their thumb for so long, and and have by far for the from the owner's standpoint by far the best position, but for the other sports you know it. They should look at what Adam Silver's done. I, mean he? He really has created an atmosphere of partnership with the players and ultimately That's the only way you're going to thrive as. As League in those collective bargaining agreements I think the baseball owners with would love to have what the NFL owners have, but the baseball players got a better job than anybody, even including the NBA players of protecting their own interests, and now you've just alienated by their next collective bargaining agreement, which is coming up in a year. is is going to be contentious to say the very least. So you think as basketball returns tries to return Stan you're looking at this, and you're thinking to yourself as someone who strategized and plan this. How the Hell do you prepare for playoff games with this? Like what are the practical difficulties of that? Well. I don't think that there are those preparations will really be. Any different. I mean I. Will you know you're going to have no distractions? Basically to the players, and you're going to have plenty of time as a coach uninterrupted time you're not going to have to spend as much time on other things and you're going to be able to you know basically sit in your hotel room and plan that out so I. Don't think the preparation part. Is going to be the problem. I think the problem is going to be the off court I mean. I just think these guys. Coaches also, but especially the players are gonNA. Be bored out of their minds and be very unhappy after a little while there. I mean I know that the NBA has tried to do everything they can in setting this up so that there's things for them to do and everything else, but we're talking about the teams ago. The finals have three months of you know not living with their families, even if they're able to come into games and stuff, they're not going to be in the bubble I mean they're gonNA have three months without family without friends outside of their teammates without activities I, it is set up to be. a lifestyle and mental health disaster but they're going to sign onto it because look I mean they want and need the money and and Soda The owners and soda the TV networks, and so decided. We're going to try to play, and we're going to try to do the best job possible. We can of keeping people safe and I think what they're doing is the only way to do it and if they can't if the NBA can't pull it. It off with all of the thoughts that they've put into this then I. Don't know how we play sports in this country until we haven't vaccine or effective treatments, because the NBA is doing every thing possible. They're taking every precaution. If they can't do it, it can't be done stand stay there for a second. We've got a number of questions to ask including whether or not you pee in the shower Stan van Gundy. We'll continue with US next year. It.

"So paternity leave Lou bad back and had etiquette all one week and finally a Florida man was arrested in a months-old attack during which he allegedly used a Samurai swords who threaten and assault a jogger as they fought over a wheelbarrow the victims that he found a pile of trash house going on that for all the way does that lodge information sports that are on ESPN radio all throughout the day happy thirty eighth birthday birthday to Serena Williams a happy birthday to her. I don't care good luck so there was some some excellent Journalism Sports Journalism Pulitzer worthies journalism done the other day by Detroit Lions beat reporter Kyle Minke. He spotted spotted someone who looked like Stan van Gundy hiding in the upper deck with his dogs and he outed him. He outed him as an upper deck goer of two games of forty five win teams with his dogs. It has to be here man. I'm guessing you can only bring the dog so the upper deck. That's probably the rule but we check in now with Stan Van Gundy for a couple of reasons one of which is to congratulate him on his new Gig at TNT and more importantly to congratulate him him on being able to laugh at the Absent Mike Ryan and his Cleveland browns because Baker Mayfield has the goods dude is what Mike Ryan. Dan said to Stan Van Gundy and Mike Ryan has been out with the family emergency all week of the browns losing on Sunday night and so here's Stan van Gundy joins us to the first question I have for you. It was indeed your dog dog or dogs at that game and if so why the hell were you at a tigers game okay it was my wife and I were out in Michigan visiting our two oldest kids who both have dogs and they wanted to go to bark complex so I was with not my own dogs but with my kids dogs and it was a great event now I will say when you go to those things. It's hard to watch the game. I mean you you end up just watching the dog you're within and all the other dogs but it was it was a lot of fun. I mean probably more fun than watching the Tigers Right now is they lying down a season where they're not. GonNa win any so you know but it was it was a funny thing and it was a great night. It was seventy five degrees so you couldn't have had a better night and I like it yeah. I'll have to do it sometime well with my own dogs. Now I know you you say that you're only up in the upper deck because that's where they keep the dogs. Did you send an email like hey. I'm Stan Van Gundy. I can go down what about what about me. Can I just go out on the field with my dog. Can I poop on face well. I actually thought letting the dog on the field would have been a good idea but but no my my name doesn't carry a lot of weight in Detroit the now they've ran me out of town so i. I don't know the trying to make that play. would've would've gone. I'm very far anyway staying. How do you think the dogs received that night because I've gone to bark at the park a couple of times and I've found that my dog doesn't seem to enjoy it as much as like all the humans humans around enjoy the idea for the park yeah that might be true but my my sons and daughters dog seemed to really like it now the part they really liked was you know coming into the stadium and you know being able to socialize with all the other dogs they love that and you know being there and being able to have fun with the other dogs. I didn't really notice them paying attention to the game a whole lot though I didn't notice most of the fans around paying attention to the game and the only sections were close to full. Oh we're the dog sections. Every the restaurant is empty while I was. GonNa ask you about that too because every time I go to the park. My dog is not paying attention to the game and we talk all the time time about what are we going to do a baseball baseball's time. We can't keep kids paying attention to the Games. It can't keep fans attention game. No one's talking about how we keep. The dogs interested in a baseball game and you'd think dogs of all people would be super interesting because it was a boggling back and forth the entire team and they can't even keep dogs attention now. It can't though I will say that you you know both of my kids dogs. what they liked was you know getting the ballpark hot dog they. They enjoyed that they enjoyed the experience anthony go into the park and getting so far it was good. Stan. I've always wondered on these bark at the park nights like what happens. If the dog has to poop yeah we'd just cleaning love with baggy right. Yeah you bring bags with you if you have to but I I didn't notice any like in the areas they have like relief relief areas where the dogs can P poop so yeah and then you just clean it up and out of those areas so that they have that all taken care of and I'll tell you what all the pet food and pet treat companies or they're giving stuff away so the tickets were like fourteen dollars for each person Jason Fourteen dollars for each dog so 'cause you accu pie space. You get far more than that in giveaway stuff up there so It's actually even if you I didn't want to go to the game. It would be worth it to buy those tickets to give away places. Fill up your bag and head home you. Its worst worst pricing admission so if every dog needs a ticket. I assume there's a seat for every dog. How does this work with the larger dogs or they like awkwardly sitting with their arms on the arm rest yeah. Actually it's funny I mean most of them are standing in the you know in the aisles and things like that the really big dogs but yeah you do have to get a space base for each dog but you know the dogs. My kids dog sat in my my daughter has a really small dog. A terrier and my son has a Husky mix. It's a little bit bigger and tall taller but he they both sat in their seats for a little bit but you you know they basically wandered around and I seem to me with all the dogs were looking for from their own owners and from others were treats they wanted to get that sounds is about right. It's also what you want it. Antonio Right fighting my kids dogs for those Antonio Antonio. Put It on the poll. Please do dogs enjoy bark at the park and Stan if you ran the Pistons with the financial efficiency of you just describing describing the bargain that is fourteen dollars per dog but you can leave with a bunch of bags of free samples. If you ran the Pitch Pistons with that kind of efficiency you would be to you see right now in the east. That's possible especially for this coming season. you know that enough for the talent is sort of left east. I guess that's possible before you go. You WanNa Make Fun of Mike Ryan. WHO's not here about the start of the Cleveland browns season. You were there yeah there. They we're GONNA win. You know what hold on a second stand. We're going to call him in. We're going to call and see if we can find if we can get you to make fun of him on it. It's just going to sit there and take but he doesn't really need to be here but we want them to listen to you when we need him to hear some of this. Donlevatar punctuate this segment with what is your strike three call the strike one would be and then stand up a good point to the right Stugatz but straight through you get down low. You got your hands behind the catcher all right the right arm armed goes up into the air and then you finish it with the right arm way up into the air. We're like audio's off. This is our show with two guys on. Espn Radio Radio Stan Gundy GONNA continue with us year on the Shell Pennzoil performance line so it wasn't that long ago as the browns were the hype train one of the off season they were on. I take all the time they were really being celebrated Stan Van Gundy and Mike Ryan Browns Fan. Mike Ryan got into an argument about Baker Kerr Mayfield now. The browns are wanting to rex Ryan and saying that Baker Mayfield is overrated as hell. Let's go back in time a little bit to listen briefly to Mike Ryan and at a happier time in Cleveland Browns History Mike Ryan and stand talking about the browns during the off season. They'll sure are you that Baker. Mayfield is going to be a star mean. He's got the goods dude now. If there's any unnecessary it's got to get out of debt. Thank you very much definitely deserve. They got the goods. That's gotTa be more than two minutes. Five minute sure yes. Yes a five minute yeah. He's got the goods dude my grind. Do you want to defend yourself right now. Okay stands let him have it stands floors guy is i. I checked yesterday in. He's one of the top thirty two quarterbacks in the NBA. Two quarterback rating you know so I mean that makes see. I'm a starting quarterback in the NFL it makes him the worst starting quarterback in the NFL and the the thing. I think you add to it is everybody got so excited. Because everybody thought allow Baker Mayfield's a star he's got the goods and all of that and then they put all these weapons surround him and that's a terrible often so you know i. I don't know I mean my point. All along with the browns is is until they prove otherwise they're the browns and whoever you put in those jerseys is GonNa find a way to not be as good as you think. I think they're gonna be and so far now thoroughly so far. It certainly looks at Mike any Rebuttal. I mean Oh really okay all right. What's your later. Thank you checking with you. During your time thank you sir might discourage. The three came into the season. Take off a week from work and I think he's in a depression. Watch him that is correct all right Stan Dan. We'll catch up with you later and congratulations on the new GIG. It sounds like a lot of fun. We are going to miss you. Hopefully you stop around here every once in a while. I hope so too. Thanks Dan so. Have you guys gotten the quotes on Brett farve talking about this is a conversation that's God's than I have been. Having for the better part of ten years as we have loved talking to wide receivers and asking them some version of the question would you rather have twelve catches for one hundred forty yards and a loss or two catches edges for ten yards and a win and outside of the Super Bowl. Almost everybody responds they want the stats and even though we talk all the time about team unity and team sports and sacrifice their very human emotions involved and STU gods loves to accuse the STAR Player. Oh you're who's sitting and having to watch someone else have success be bitter and angry and jealous about what should be joy. It's a natural reaction. I'm just trying to point that out. It's just a natural thing to feel as you watch someone else. Take your job so Brett. Farve is saying that he li- manning I didn't enjoy basically any part of Daniel Jones's Sunday victory against the Tampa Bay box where Daniel Jones did a handful of things. Eli Manning has never done done ran for a couple of touchdown game overcame an eighteen point deficit was great against pressure so what are the quotes from Brett Farve on this billing early. He's said quote you and I- anyone else can only speculate what I was thinking for us it on his weekly serious. XFL NFL see serious accent NFL radio program mm-hmm but you have to think that deep down inside a part of him not wanted to see Daniel Jones fail but want but not play at the level that he did the great right. It answers a ten year old question. Thank you Brett also answering ten year old question. Is this this director who is making a movie about Action Park. This is something that God says introduced you to. It's considered the most dangerous action park in the world world. We did a thirty for thirty on at once. What if I told you thousand nine hundred seventy eight to nineteen ninety eight it was a waterpark that regularly killed Patriot that had the survivors longing to come back on its opening day over one hundred swimmers were saved from the wave pool that the wave pool was often referred to as the grave pool employees would describe as underaged undertrained and often under the influence that ride designers may have had insufficient training in physics and engineering that a guest once said they seemed to build rides not knowing how they would work and then let people on that during testing testing of the Canon Ball Lou dummy were thrown in and repeatedly came out the capitated. The ride was altered until the dummies came out and tat that park employees within offered one hundred dollars the tested out themselves. The pork owner purchased additional ambulances for the town to keep up with incidents at the poor work out..

"Being broke it. I don't know how they're going to be able to recover from this. Tough tough couple of months without a championship. And that's it. So STAN Van Gundy is in with us today, and we will quickly shift tha basketball. Thank you. Unless you know unless anyone's heard hockey guy or surfer hockey guy far away from the Mike. I'm gonna move onto basketball here. Morning, everybody. Unless someone's got something to say about Gloria and the Saint Louis blues, I just wanna thank ROY publicly for telling me to take the St Louis blues, a plus seven fifty about four months ago I cashed in. Thank you very much ROY. You welcome last I s just got one solid from last night's mazing game. Senate did you see Jay bro Easter? He actually didn't get back on the person. But he was credited with an assist does all the right things. Here's a takeaway dude. Lots of little kids watching lots of little broS brunettes out there sitting at home. You gotta turn off the microphone, Lord Stanley just telling you right now, a lot of cusses. Man, that's affects kids, get back to traditional American values. In this country Benton, had one of the greatest performances any goaltender and stood on his head. Yeah. No Ryan bro early because winter and now superstar, we're all we all know name household name running rally, right? Playoffs. He had tremendous. I think I think that. Hockey has to be the hardest sport to predict during the playoffs harder than even baseball because you can maybe predict the Josh Beckett or Madison. Bumgarner is gonna make an appearance and be dominant. How the hell do you guess who's going to be the hot goalie? He did you took the blues based on goalie based on goaltending. Yeah. Absolutely did. Two arrests was mazing postseason. He may be Toko. Efi rask. It's difficult to predict because the puck is exactly. All right. It's a it's a tricky biscuit, and applying on ice on swords. No less stand. Do you follow any hockey at all? I mean I follow the scores. Yeah, that's about it. I didn't watch it, though. Okay. On put it on the ball. I didn't watch games. I should've watched game seven. I forgot it was onto becoming okay? Was anyone like me were they really they really went into that game. And they sat down. They turned on the TV and you know what? I'm going to watch this hockey game and then after ten minutes you just change the channel bullet to nothing three nothing. That's when you started the chains. At Chan I want because I know we're going to be talking about it. I just wanna watch it. But then I just like the guys grocer games on. And it's just that the week. The Bruins outshot, the blues Trotha four. Yes. And blues into the into I love the counter attacking style that the blues play. But it also made for disappointing game seven because they went up to and I was like there's no scoring on this offense. I need to rewind though because on the you know after in the aftermath of game seven best two words in sports, although I think we can make put this on the poll game lebatardshow better to words in sports. Game seven or Super Bowl Super Bowl is kind of like all the game sevens, but together so Super Bowl or game seven but I just want everyone to absorb that not only after the Stanley Cup final. Do we have STAN Van Gundy in standing Gundy, has decided to channel his inner stugatz where he's like, yeah, I follow hockey and then it becomes. Yeah. But I forgot game seven was on last night. And I didn't watch. And so I asked you guys that lebatardshow can you be someone who actually follows hockey if you forgot about game. Mm seven of the Stanley Cup..

"I am now betrayed STAN. Van gundy. I didn't get a good shot of him because he was moving around and stuff, but he was feeling bad Mike because he had publicly declared that he would wear the David Stern shirt if we send it and so he called me FaceTime me. And he may or may not have been wearing the shirt, I could totally tell, but it I took a picture of him without him knowing it because I think I think STAN Van Gundy needs to be publicly shamed for this. I don't even care what he thinks of it either. By the way, like if this Rex our relationship, then so be it. I got no problem with that. Because I always leave the van Gundy's to be people who were truthful, especially their parents like, and Jeff and STAN have been stained by him promising to do this for us and then walking it back because he's afraid of thin-skinned David Stern. So my brother is stained by me going back on my word, the Van Gundy name, all of Gandhi name all van Gundy's sly kids, everybody am I wrong. Yes. Your kids. Everybody. Am I am? I wrong. You want to defend yourself because you sound like a broken trying to defend myself. I did go back on my word. I decided that that was not something that I should do. But I don't think that should affect anyone other than me. It's not how it works on his shows. No. Oh, wow. We just put her on television. I I think that's pretty incriminating. Mike, Mike that looks pretty incriminating to me the shot. I got him. Also gonna put it on Instagram. So you can weigh in Lubbock toward show. All right. Yeah. So the betrayal as are just hanging me out to dry here. That is correct. And you will eat it. Let's talk some basketball with STAN Van Gundy. This is what I want. I want to give you some numbers. Here's two guys because the Boston Celtics were almost finals good last year or quarter away from being finals good last year. They added Kyrie Irving it's been season of no fun at all the Philadelphia. Seventy Sixers standing and Gundy last week told us that's as good as starting five. Now, you add Tobias Harris. That's a good starting five as anybody. But the the warriors and yet Boston every damn time. They play Philadelphia they wipe the floor with them. And Furthermore, Joel Embiid was a physical specimen of uncommon size and strength. He gets neutralized all the time by the old man game of Al Horford. Listen to these stats because Boston is ten and two in his last twelve games against Philadelphia. You saw that without kyri and Gordon Hayward. They dismissed Simmons and Embiid and five games in the play on might say, the Celtics have their number so Horford when when Joel Embiid is guarded by Horford. He is twenty-five of seventy when he's guarded by anyone else. He's forty eight for fifty two. Stan what the hell man Al has Joe number. What the hell no question that. And that's really the reason for the for the mismatch between the two teams. Now, I think Brett Brown made the point after the game. And he's absolutely right. It's a whole new team for the Sixers, and they haven't been together at all. So I don't think that they're necessarily overly worried about having to play them in the playoffs..

"I don't want oversell this because I haven't heard it yet. But if you're just joining us, STAN Van Gundy is a liar. Stan Van Gundy. We mailed him. A tee shirt to wear today that is of David Stearns face with a clown knows. We were talking about this during the Super Bowl when barstool and they've got that shirt with Roger Goodell and a clown nose. And we didn't know if Sean Payton was wearing that under his shirt, and when we were having that conversation, I believe STAN Van Gundy promised that he would wear that shirt. So we have mailed it to him. And now he is just I mean, just a chicken just it's terrible. And so Mike, I don't want oversell this, but Stu gods? What should be the stakes here on? If we provide proof that STAN Van Gundy did indeed agree to do this. He's gotta wear it for multiple shows instead of just one show. I mean, that's I think that's fair. Right. Gotta wear for a week. Gotta wear it everywhere around and they're all platforms. There have to be stakes to this whereabouts. No matter what you play. I'm not gonna trust you because you guys Dr audio all the time as evidenced by really hot Brooks is an idiot. Said you said it again did not. You guys are the worst. All right. Well, no, we're not the worst. You're the worst the worst word. And so let's Mike I want to know what the stakes are though, there have to be consequences. He can't be. I can't believe STAN Van Gundy as gods like weasel trying to get out of this bet that he already agreed to stick. Insult Stu guts. Because of me. I mean, you were just the catalyst. He was going to do that. Anyway, it's the formula. Stan don't they? Without further ado, here's the undocked possibly if we were to send you a shirt of David Stern with a clown nose. Would you wear it on ESPN news for us? Yeah. I probably would. I'm not worried. I certainly wouldn't be worried about offending David Stern. I mean, who's one of the most thin skinned people that I've ever been around. That is doctored staying, no, that's not dot. I remember that. You're right. All right. So now where are we now? We've got you bought, you know, for the moment, I've had time to think about it. I I wouldn't do it. Now. Let's listen type probably okay. Take that out. Mike. I want to point out the hypocrisy of this. Because Mike, I want you to listen to STAN Gundy in his own words, not doctored saying flatly, he's not afraid of David Stern..

"Happy. Stan Van Gundy Wednesday, we will get to his betrayal and his breaking of an oral contract and a second. There's we find the proof. That's yeah. I mean unbelievable. But if you're just joining us, STAN Van Gundy, and the Riegle Van Gundy basketball name has been smeared because of the cowardice of STAN Van Gundy walking away from a promise that we believed to have audio of you're gonna feel shame. When I play this for you. And there's proof and that you're not a man of your word, or you're just going to continue to remain entrenched. I have to be credibility guy. I have to be basketball guy. I will not wear ridiculous shirt that has David Stearns face in a clown nose. Listen, I don't think I ever made that promise. So we'll we'll see if you if you actually find that. I don't think I made that promise, but you've been challenged shipping container. Find me the proof because I wanna shame this man in public. I'd like to get the van Gundy's out of basketball because. We're no longer means anything. Well, I think my owner in Detroit took care of that, thankfully, so you're you're behind the you're actually at the back of the line on that. And getting me out of basketball, San, you know, I love you. I remember you saying that though, I do I remember you saying it, and listen, you just being associated with this show has smeared the good Van Gundy name that that's a great night right there. All right. Well, we continue to smear it over the next three hours with STAN Van Gundy. But I want to get to something that's do. God's does all the time. "STAN Van Gundy is with us and we have been remiss. Okay. And I'm sorry standing Gundy is not said anything anywhere on any of ESPN's one million platforms about the Anthony Davis situation. I don't know what he thinks. So let's begin their stand. You saw that happen. And you thought what? Well, a few things I think first of all I think fans and everybody else can be assured that nothing like this will ever happen again with a player publicly requesting a trade that fifty thousand dollar fine on Anthony Davis will only makes twenty three and a half million year, the deterrent value there. So sick so strong. This'll be the last time this happened. So I think you can be assured of that. I it's sort of amazing me the the resentment that's out there by a lot of people both fans and media about this whole issue of the players are controlling where they wanna play in who they wanna play with. And he's forcing his way to LA in the whole thing. And I'm just wondering why it it's so upsetting to people that someone would try to take control of their own careers. I mean, most people do that. But for some reason with players, and I think we know in the NBA that a big part of it is race. But people get very upset about the players controlling this thing. And then I love the the last thing is I just love all the trade talk because people want the super teams, and so the trades they propose like Boston. You would get either Jason Tatum or. Jalen Brown in Marcus smart in a in a pick. That would be great. And then the guy right? Imagine what Boston would have. Yeah. But New Orleans isn't going for that, you know, and that the Lakers might have to throw in Brandon Ingram with with Lonzo ball, and Kyle Kuzma might this guy's one of the players in the league. And then my favorite line from one of the articles is he wrote about some tradenet forget, which one that New Orleans would be well within their rights to ask for player. A and b New Orleans can ask through over the hill. I want to ask for their within their rights. It's almost like people have this idea that New Orleans has an obligation to accommodate Anthony Davis. Look what Anthony Davis did in Rich, Paul? I have no problem with as a matter of fact think it helps the teen in a way because they let them know right away. New Orleans can trade him to anyone they want to trade him to he's got this year and next year. They don't have to limit themselves to anywhere that he wants to go and they're going to make the best deal for themselves. And I personally don't think they'll probably make it by the trade deadline. They increase relaxing yesterday. They should ask for LeBron. Well, you know, what that's where you would start him. I think people talk about Boston you'd start with kyri. And then and then if not basically for Anthony Davis, you if you're going to protect one guy, you basically have to offer up everything else, particularly now at the trade deadline.

"If you want more, STAN Van Gundy in your life, and you want serious basketball analysis. He's very good analytics he can do just about anything. If you wanna talk baseball with him go do. So now Instagram Allison is running the account. If you don't want to be here for what we're about to do. Which is the biggest story in sports today. Seth wicker sham ESPN the magazine does this as well. As anyone does like what he does. He comes into the organs Asian. He gets all the juicy stuff that everybody doesn't know about. He leaves you organization. They yell and deny it. And then he's right about everything. How that one work? I think they're going to start not allowing him to come to the wicker. She wants to God said before why does anyone agree to allow him into the facility? It's it's an excellent question. So the Browns what would you say Seth and thank you for joining us. What would you say are the three best items in your story? Hey, thanks guys was. It was very flattering. You know? Look, I think it interested me once you saw Baker Mayfield emerged as this force in the NFL, this precocious sort of forced I was like, oh my gosh. Like, you know, is this gonna is he going to be the latest version of red, right? Eighty eight and the drive in the fumble and the shot, and so I really wanted to try to get inside. And learn what it's like to work for Jimmy and he has on and try to determine as best. I could whether you know, they their methodology the way that they do football is going to test the way is gonna test what a young quarterback interest sent. And so that's what I was interested in learning about and in the process of under about a lot of things I learned to win. You know, Hugh Jackson was told he was fired. He told John Dorsey and Jimmy has to get the f out of his office. I learned that general manager Sashi Brown nicknamed Obama by Jimmy has I'm which you know, offended a lot of the people in the building. Even though he didn't mean it that way. And you know, I think there's a lot there, including, you know, they broadcast poured ones in I. In the building. That was a good story. Who gave you that story where to come from? How excited were you? When you got that story was the feeling inside you as a journalist better than the actual watching of the poor. Oh, yeah. But you know, it was an accident. I mean, it could have happened it numerous places, but it was one of the things that just sort of happened to the Brown. It couldn't have in the history more. The only place that that could have happened. Probably right. And I'll be right. So Seth what's it? What's it like working for Jimmy has the discover he seems like he's just a re this is the rich guy's toy. And he's not saying he eats hard boiled eggs in front of people because he's a rich guy, and he can and he throws the shelves at their face. I think that when he would hit when you know. So he he inherited the family business and turn it into this, you know, massive chain. And then you know, he bought the team everything seemed like he was going. Okay. And then six months after he bought the team, the business was indicted. He was leading a meeting when FBI and IRS officials rated the building. And you know, I think that changed Jimmy is an owner because he had been a minority owner at the Pittsburgh Steelers, which was all about patience and stability. And as the family business became something that he could no longer, you know, do when he ended up selling. Most of the shares goes the controlling shares in it. He began to grip the Browns more tightly, and I think that like when businessman come. From outside. And they buy a team. I'm not trying to feel sorry for billionaires here, especially one whose company are under after you know, we're under FBI investigation, but it is hard and they're not used to the criticism..

"That last little sound there that changes that rejoin and sounded a little bit sensual in nature from STAN Van Gundy is replacing what used to be there, which is the famous STAN Van Gundy, quote from you know, ten years ago around here, we've been doing it show for a long time, we misrepresented him badly one time by editing together. What sounded like STAN Van Gundy? Very sternly calling Scott Brooks an idiot. Stan Van Gundy was fine with that back. When Scott Brooks wasn't an idiot. But now, the Washington Wizards wanna trade everybody, and STAN Van Gundy doesn't want his name attached anymore to Scott Brooks is an idiot. Do I have everything there? Right. Santa my misrepresenting anything you're being the sensitive coach. It was. Okay. When Scott Brooks was winning. But it's not okay anymore. We've been playing this sound for ten years. Ten damn years. Scott Brooks is an idiot. Great great sound. I don't know if he ever confronted you about it. He should have because we played the hell out of Scott Brooks is an idiot. And then you demanded that we took it down as soon as he went sub five hundred Scott Brooks is an idiot. First of all, I didn't command. I just said it's not I didn't like it. It's not as funny. You know? I mean when when Scott Brooks is winning sixty five percent of his games. It's clearly a joke. And when the when the wizards are struggling, you know, if it's people who haven't listened for a long time. How about we handle the funny? How about we handle the funny? You take care of just making flammable statement, you might check the coaches, we'll handle the fight. Here's the point. I didn't make that statement ever. That's not true. Listen, I don't know what's happening here. But this guy clearly propaganda king liar. There is no disputing. You. Didn't say this Scott Brooks is an idiot is. That. Say that absolutely put that together. I did not put it together thing. That's the only thing on my side in that that people will believe it is. They know how crazy you guys are. So you know, they will then we should be allowed to hang it. Because honestly, there is nothing that proves to me that the wizards are idiot proof in leadership nothing. They're not allowed to have anything. I don't know about that. But Scott's not an idiot. Scott's a damn good coat. Oh, there's. Places sound bite for that history. Will prove that out. I mean, the guy is is a great winning percentage. You know? So that when you're going to have a hard time Arctic sit next open, we'll close with Scott Brooks is a really good coach. And that's the kind of radio we need around here. Let's pivot from STAN Van Gundy. Coach protectors and Van Gundy into other matters because it has been really funny this morning to read the information coming out of Cleveland Browns camp that includes porn a federally indicted owner who escaped the federally indicted chargers behaving in a way that I imagine Jerry Jones behaves in the shadows. But you never hear me just referred to one of his employees as Obama Jimmy has them would apparently have these meetings with team brass and he's eating a hardboiled egg the entire time leaving shell casings on the floor. It's one of the more appalling and rich people things I've ever seen. Quicker sham reported this story. We gotta get it in front of STAN, and we got to get it in front of Stu gods. Because this is the story that people are going to be talking about today like the Browns. I mean, they were even more of a mess than you think they were. It's a juicy headline like all of it. He description of the article how long is it though. Well, that's the problem out here. Four minutes before the show started blaming Lorenzo for something as Danny how much time was in your segment, which is always a minute and didn't read anything sometimes it's fifty sometimes it's a minute twenty. I mean, you never know. That's why ask them so upset was set the timing of this article, and I know what sort of position as Baker can pull us through all of this. But as a Browns fan, your concern is is this going to drag this unicorn down to so do you think that Hugh Jackson actually told has lem get the bleep out of my office..

"Stan Van Gundy. Our one guest of the week killed it before STAN we had. Professor, Greg, Cody. Professor upset bird pick the two AFC games. AFC playoff games for this weekend. It was charges ravens and colts. Texans. And while I was kind of now wasn't listening would you pick? Again. I picked Houston to beat Indy which isn't an upset but feels like one based on betting trans and I did pick LA chargers to upset Baltimore in Maryland. Which do you think before you telling me the picks, which do you think is the better game eagles bears or cowboy Seahawks? Wow. They're both great game as they should be in the playoffs. But the the more unpredictable game is Seattle Dallas. All right. So let's save that for last. Let's go bears. Eagles. This is the only point spread that's a little bit lopsided Chicago's favored by by six which I think feels like a too much why? Well, because Philadelphia is the defending champion. They've been really good lately, they believe in Nick foles full sort of has that isn't that big of a number at home. Well, it sort of is. I mean, it's it's well beyond the the home field advantage point spread. I mean, you're giving Chicago the homefield and saying that they're an additional field goal better than Philly. A lot of people are picking obviously that's the over under. So a lot of people are picking Chicago to cover. I think she comes gonna win but not cover. I like Philadelphia with the points. I I just think that Chicago's defense leads the league in interceptions their third and sacks. They've got Khalil Mack. I think that they're going to sort of strip the superman Cape from Nick foles and making it. I mean, it could be. But it could easily work the other way around like the way Michael Bennett and let your Cox are playing. They could put a ton of pressure on Trubisky Trubisky could give away a game. You don't know if you're gonna get a bad version of him. No, you don't. And and that's why this too is a fascinating game to me. And why I think it's going to be a close low scoring game. I've got Chicago winning twenty two seventeen but the champion birds upsetting to Kogyo would would surprise me. But it certainly wouldn't shock. Maybe we should do this later. But I just want to get your thoughts on this one though it so it wouldn't shock you. And if Nick foles beats the Chicago defense specifically that is built to make life miserable for a quarterback. And he gets by them the same way he did that last year against Minnesota. Right. Do you think that that magic is back for the I I wouldn't go that far, you know, when you look at the twelve playoff teams to me that the two NFC vice C, you know, top seeds New Orleans and LA Rams are clearly the Super Bowl favorites. And I. You know, I don't think Kansas City in New England have nearly the chance to win it all as I give those NFC teams. So the last game here. Cowboys seahawks. I'm not even sure why you consider it the best of the games. Well. It's the prime time game. I'm not sure exactly if they did the scheduling for this reason. But it's the only primetime game this weekend. Partly for this reason. They're both great. When the lights are on Dallas is eleven three and his fast, fourteen primetime games and Seattle under Russell Wilson is twenty two twenty two five and one in primetime. So those are competing. Stan's school. Greg Cody on ESPN radio..

"So STAN Van Gundy is in with us and we've got a surprise for him and a half hour, but we've got nuggets for your face. I'm assuming we gotta get that imaging. So that STAN Van Gundy can put his hot basketball nuggets in your face. He does it every week year on the show. I believe it's the only segment that he has that is popular. Ain't used to be. Well, STAN Van Gundy streetwalker was something that was very popular. But then the climate change, and we couldn't do it anymore. It was just people shouting from a car wanting basketball information, it was a lot of fun. But we can't do it anymore. Cat calling him. Hey, baby. Hey, baby. Kevin loved ability back from that hand injury. That's so does does this week have a themes and your basketball nuggets it does. Because of Fred Hoiberg firing in Chicago. We'll. Aw, one person on the radio who supports coaches. Is that what you think every coach analysts defense coaches? You don't have some sort of private real estate here stand. But it's just us. And it's not it's not anybody else in the media. That's for sure. Okay. You just are out here. One time. I'd like Van Gundy or someone of Gundy's elk to kill Fred Hoiberg after he gets fired and say men, he was terrible. Just one damn time. I want one of you guys from the fraternity to take out another guy from the fraternity. Yeah. Like like, you guys all do. You said the magic were playing well, just because you know, Clifford they're five hundred. There was a while. You're not you don't follow them. So you don't know they're playing very very well. And I've taken out every host in America. You getting me. I don't follow them Stana clauses near all the Orlando games in Santa outfit, and he's got more credibility than you do heat. If play the same game against some for fifteen straight years. How to magic fans feel about you STAN because you ran you presided over a pretty glorious time in your best time in basketball. I would imagine. Yeah. And I think most of them pretty good feel pretty good. But. You know, I'm sure there's some like like everywhere who are happy that I'm gone too. So you know, I mean. But I would say generally pretty positive. All right. So here we go. This is the theme of coach protection that San Gundy for all your needs every fired coach that ever has been fired and basketball Stanford Gundy will rush to their defense. So these are we are not as infused about these half. Half-hearted nuggets as we normally I'm not giving this. The buildup deserves sabotaging it before it gets started. Here is the third best coaching defense. Nugget from STAN Van Gundy. Oh, I need the imaging. I I'm sorry. And now time for stamping goodies top it'd nugget Sony Wednesday show. The biggie. Okay now. Mike wanted to make sure I got to that quality production there digit order. There is chaos. The third best basketball nugget from STAN Van Gundy is well Fred Hoiberg struggled due to injuries to three of his top six players. Even success is no measure of security, at least four coaches since two thousand and two have been fired less than a year after being named coach of the year. Rick Carlisle, Mike Brown, George Carlin, Dwayne Casey. Point. The second. Coach defending nugget from STAN Van Gundy is twenty four games may seem quick to fire a coach but five times in just the last ten years coaches have been fired in the first eleven games led by Irwa Tsin firing by the sons last year three games into the. He was terrible..

"And I've had a lot of times. We're nobody's asking me anything. But when you take him out of the game, they had straight to the bathroom. I've had that a lot. So and I have had people leave the bench. I I mean there have been times probably every year where you turn around to put somebody in the game. And they're not they're you know, they they headed to the bathroom doesn't happen often. But I'd say once a year it happens. You know, what I saying Aaron you got ahead of the Beth you, thank you. You are a person who is an executive with power for a long time. And now you've become a media member. And I'm always lamenting that the coaches who come in the media sugar coat, and one of the reasons we love you is because you don't you did not name the pooper, and I need the name of the pooper in your media. Now, you're not going to do that. That somebody had to go to the bathroom, a normal human, it isn't normal human thing. But you know, it might embarrass some people are not gonna everyone's hope stand that. I know that's a good book, by the way, if you have kids. Thank you stand on the mentally useless. You're not going to give us anything on the mad. I think that's the best description of me that anyone has ever had. And I think my family would agree with that. And probably most people have been around fundamentally useless. That is a great description. I thought you meant everyone poops. I I don't know. I don't know what to do with STAN Van Gundy. Telling me the Miami Heat are going to be a good team. I understand that they're injured. I also understand. They're losing at home to Orlando. Orlando's in Atlanta's like. I put Orlando and Atlanta together, I watch Orlando in Miami a lot because 'cause you're worth verti- 'cause you're a Clifford guy. No, I'm saying, so I watch him. So I have an idea both what I'm about Miami. And about Orlando Orlando has been playing very very well. I mean, they're west coast trip. They only went two and three, but that they had a really close loss to Portland. You know, the the Lakers have been playing great their two losses lately or both to Orlando. I mean, if you've been following Orlando has been playing really, well, I mean, Vosa vich and Aaron Gordon have both been outstanding as they were as they were last night in the heat team is is still hanging in there and defendant. Pretty well. Look, they're not going to score. It doesn't look like until they can get gore and drug each back. They just don't have anybody who creates for other people. They don't have guys that can get in the paint consistently. They're going to struggle. And I didn't mean to say they're going to be like a real good team. But I think they're going to be a playoff team. I really do. Now, if if drug is going to be out another three weeks, and they're going to miss that many games. They're not going to be good until he gets back to what you wanted to ask him something. No, no. I had nothing for STAN. Okay. As you were leaning in there before like you wanted to get into now, I was actually just getting ready for my sports Senate. That's coming up, and I had nothing, but I do understand Hassan Whiteside. Rush. Ration- if indeed he walked out because of frustration when you're six of seven and have that kind of first happened your max player guide, and they don't play you in the second half stand. That's frustrating understand where Hassan Whiteside is coming from. I really do by having to poop. Well, by I think he walked off in frustration. And I'm okay with that. Because he should be frustrated. Well, you can be okay with the frustration. I think Eric said after the game it guys have to manage frustration. I mean if he just walked off in frustration. You can't be okay with that. I mean, that's that's not acceptable. Don't think anybody. He's knucklehead though. He's a knucklehead, well, I don't know about that the thing that because I haven't been with him. But thing that is pretty clear, I think over the last two years is and I'm just going on the way they play him and use him. They clearly don't have great confidence in him. And you get the sense that in a lot of cases..

And after that, it is will Cain three to six and the promos tell you you need to be listening three to six his Mitch Trubisky. This year's version of Jared Goff know that more third. He will tell you even though you already know the answer. Right. So spoiled again, there's that and more. All right. There will be elaboration of the point. Right. Duke basketball, STAN Van Gundy, what are the chances that the Duke basketball team ends up being one of these fab five type situations of the UNLV team from Larry Johnson, Stacy Augmon? What are the chances that this Duke team? I know they've they beat Kentucky by thirty something. And then the last two games they played. Nobody's. But is there a chance what what needs to happen? How long do they have to go undefeated for it's become a real phenomenon? Well, they've got to go through, you know, let's say at least half of the conference season before you really start paying attention to that Kentucky took an undefeated record into the NCAA tournament. You know few years back maybe towns as year. So but nobody's been able to get all the way through. I don't think they'll get all the way through either as good as they are. I don't think that'll happen. There's other good teams out there, and they're gonna have bad nights. So. I think they're really good. You know, we've seen him play one really really good game. But I don't think they're unbeatable. I don't think anybody is staying how do we start splintering this team because ions getting all the advertisements? He's getting all the sports promo promos. But he's not even the teams. Best player and belongs RJ Barrett. He can imagine RJ Barrett's getting a little jealous at Zion thing. Right. I would think so probably a little bit. Yeah. Look doing say what we want. But there's competition. All those guys want to be the number one pick RJ Barrett. Does feel like he's the better player. But we the only thing I'll say is we've seen more guys like RJ Barrett. Good wing players athletes skilled all of that than we have seen guys like Zion Williamson, and that's why getting all the attention. I mean, two hundred and eighty five pounds and doing what he does, you know, going up and Dunkin the ball. I mean, we really haven't seen anybody like him Blake Griffin's a closest but Blake wasn't a janitor again with voting of Richard Jefferson Jefferson again again, quote, I did I didn't attributing. Because a lot of basketball games Wednesdays. We can't get guests from basketball. And so we want to take full advantage of the fact that standards here on Thursday to get basketball guests so Donnie Walberg gonna join us at four and a half hour. And Zach Lowe at some point as well, which I feel like we could have gotten whether or not stand was here, evidently, Popovich incur and all the other calls that you put out coach K everything else. Got shut down. What happened Popovich said? He couldn't do it right now. Maybe down the road Steve Kerr at a couple of weeks. He will do it with us after thanksgiving. He did say that. And everyone else said no stand those calls us to get answered back when you were the president of the Detroit Pistons. Yeah. I don't have much cloud anymore, Dan. And we're trying to create a new character Ellen degenerate. A gambling character. And it would have been here this morning. I can't believe again eleven one straight. Army's good this year. I've been making fun of this is good this year. Colgate see stand. Have you given any consideration was it ever conversation with the pistons on whether or not you guys we're going to be able to turn gambling into a money source? Didn't never get that far because the league was trying to figure out some of the particulars. Well, it never got there on straight sports betting. But you know, there was there was already stuff with, you know, the daily fantasy stuff, and you know, we we put it up in the arena and everything else. So there was draft kings and forget what the other one is. I'm not into all that stuff. But you know. So there was talk of it. It's been going on for a while. And how do you feel about it? Like does it make you an easy? It sports have always tried to at least give the appearance that they're separating themselves from gambling in every way. So the idea of basketball wanting to profit off of percentage off of the amount. That's gambled. Yeah. There's something about that. That doesn't feel that feel doesn't feel comfortable. Well, I actually think it's more comfortable than having it all underground. And and you know, behind the scenes, I think being out front about it. We we've known gifts sports gambling's been going on for a long long time. I rather have it legalized. Regulated and everything else. So yeah, I think it's a good idea. Call gates giving up twelve points in their last eight games at points combine and I'm fifty one nothing before the first cake. I mean, how about that fifty one to nothing of Alabama right now. Hold on hold on. That's a surprise. By the way. I said it L fifty one Annella Bama this early. But Colgate gave it to Lee high forty eight to six you don't just give it to Lee hideout way, really or Lee Lehigh, really good. No, he's he's being sarcastic. But STAN listen to this. Listen the idea. That's is giving gambling advice. Do you want? Wanna guess? Stugatz has picked sixty three college football games this year, sixty three do you wanna guess what? His record is against the spread in sixty three college football game sixty four that's a fun. Well, I know how much stoop puts into preparation on everything. "Stan Van Gundy has had theme related nuggets. The last couple of weeks is this theme related or is this just a hodgepodge of free flowing. Doug it. No, it's theme related again. Then. All right. Well, what are the three nuggets? Well, our theme today is NBA centers. And we'll start with a blast from the past the four fifty point games already this season from NBA players. Got me looking at the history of fifty point games in the NBA. Michael Jordan is second in NBA history with thirty one fifty point games. But the man who is I will Chamberlain had forty five fifty point games in one season. Hundred eighteen in his career, the still. Thanks for being useless as number two. Stan. Nikola yokich. The Denver Nuggets center is currently tagged with LeBron James for seventh in the NBA in assists at seven point seven a center has not been in the top ten in assists. Since Wilt Chamberlain was second in the league fifty one years ago. That joker wilt this stilts that and the number one nugget from STAN Van Gundy this week is I'm gonna go with one of my former guys here last year. Andre Drummond became only the second player in the past twenty six years to average fifteen points and fifteen rebounds in season. Now, he is on pace to become the first player to do it in back to back seasons. Since Moses Malone forty years ago.

"Stan Van Gundy in with us as he is Wednesdays during basketball season, we will get to his hot nuggets is hot basketball nuggets in your face in a second. But let's go around the room, and guests, you guys have a theory or a guess on where STAN Van Gundy side in the Kyrie Irving debate. Where Murray's going for fifty at the end of the game all of a sudden Kyrie's flipping out about unwritten rules, and that you're not allowed to shoot. When the other team's not playing defense it guys trying to get to fifty do. We have some predictions here before I go to STAN Van Gundy on what STAN Van Gundy opinion is going to be on this. He's not happy with Kyrie not happy with Kyrie. Why just because you can't be throwing balls into the stands? Okay. Do you have a theory here on which way, this is going to go? We did this on Instagram live. So I'm going to recuse myself. Okay. Mike Ryan, what about you? Both are. Wrong. Both are wrong both of the players Murray. And Kyrie Irving are wrong. That's my take that his that's going to be his take ROY. Do. You have a do. You have a guest. Yeah. He's going to side with Kyrie. Don't try to run up the score me. He's gonna crush all Murray. All right. So that we've got every option is taken. Let's see which one stand. Choose not every option someone wanting to say, he's not gonna have a problem with it. It's cool across the board. All right. Well, that's another one of the options. Alright stan. So which is it. Well, look, I mean Jamal Murray maybe shouldn't have taken the shot. But I don't like people crying about you know, guys running up the score and things like that. What kyri should have been upset about is that Jamal Murray got forty eight on him. And if they got their butts kicked, that's what should have upsetting the rest of that stuff is stuff. I'd never complained about Bobby Bowden. I think said it best when he was at Florida state the responsibility for not getting the score run up on. You is the team that's getting beat. Well, it's so strange. Kyrie Irving is reacting like an old person. Isn't he twenty six? Well, he's look he's frustrated. I get it. You know, everybody on that team. Anybody would be you know, you got beaten. You're good team in Boston season hasn't gotten off to his great start as you know. Like, you thought it would then you're getting beaten and the guy had a great game against you. You're frustrated. That's all it was. So I don't read too much into it. But you know, look he shouldn't have shot it but come on. I mean, that's not the issue. The issue is we got to play better in and get a win. Stan you say he shouldn't have shot. But why not? I mean, it's Jamal Murray hasn't had much to be happy about over the last couple of years what I'm trying to get his fifty. I mean, why not get fifty? I mean, look again, I wouldn't have if I was on the other side, I wouldn't have any complaints. But I would if that were my guy walking off the court, I wouldn't make a huge deal about it. I would just say look, that's just something. You don't do in that situation Dez Bryant has signed a one year contract with the saints Dez Bryant is going to be a Saint. But we segue seamlessly from that putting STAN van Gundy's nuggets in.

"Rodgers had Bill Belichick he would throw for seven thousand yards in a season. Tom Brady was hyperventilating. In his praise for how Aaron Rodgers inspires him and tie Montgomery hosts to God's right when he says he's been an unselfish player, but he according to Mike silver of NFL dot com. Mike silver was saying that that was an act. Insubordination that Montgomery was upset before that series. He was told not to come out of the end zone and he came out of the end zone anyway, Andy fumbled. And here's time Montgomery with what sounded like a reasonable explanation to us. He might be lying about being in subordinate. But this sounded reasonable kicked the returnable where was it? At that point in time.

"Wow. And and because of his youth, what you're saying is that's the guy that everybody if given, if if given the choice. Every team in the league would think that he is better than their best player given over the next ten years. Well, his certainly last longer I would think I don't know about every team. He can never say that, but he would be the consensus guy to be able to build your team around. I think who is two three and four out west according to STAN Van Gundy. Houston, Portland, Denver. Whoa. Whoa, not necessarily. Not necessarily in that order though. Whoa, that's a bit surprising. I don't think any. I don't think many people have that two, three, four like that. Like the nuggets that high and Portland that high. Well, first of all, there wasn't much difference between Portland in Denver last year. Portland was the was the three seed in Denver didn't make the playoffs and the difference was three win. So there's not much of a difference when you get past Golden State and Houston anyway. So yeah, I think Denver they've continued to get better. They've got a great young core. If again, health is going to determine it with all of these, I love Portland's two guards. They're playing great early in the year. They're getting some development at Zach Collins who was really the guy who dominated that Laker game and Houston still. That's number two team. I think let me help me understand this because you were saying LeBron has started a slow, and you were saying it's the quality of play at west. If you're telling us that Portland and Denver improve the west is even stronger this year, because New Orleans is going to be better and so is San Antonio. So you're watching during the first first week of the season. Here you're watching improvement from teams that aren't even the ones generally considered the best in in the west. So what's happened with LeBron so far I'm taking it your noticing how bad their defensive. Well, yeah, but that's everybody in the league. I mean, right now there's not a lot of defense being played in the league and it's not because people don't care about it. It's because of the rules right now always called tighter early in the year. Right now, it's being called very, very tight. It's almost impossible to defend. I actually would be encouraged if I were the Lakers I think they've played three very competitive games against good teams. And then in the Senate Tonio game, they didn't have to start. So I think they should be encouraged by their start, not discouraged. Donlevatar can see casino. What did I say? I think stugatz is dyslexic, perhaps stugatz might can we do some sort of dyslexia Tex test, and now I'm struggling rubbing off on a dislikes it test somewhere is their way to find on the internet. Something that would allow us to to do a funny dyslexia test. But if. It's proven to be true, then we aren't allowed to laugh at it anymore. Right point. Let's not do that. These are show with this two guys on ESPN radio. We are grateful for the outspoken controversial voice of STAN Van Gundy here every Wednesday, dangerous flammable find more than just about anyone in basketball history. Not named Mark. Cuban selects revisit some of the emotional STAN Van Gundy post games and pre games. He gave us the good stuff and then we'll get twenty seconds of analysis and recall from STAN Van Gundy on the back end. So let's let's begin with the first stand Van Gundy soundbite. Yeah. I mean, if I saw it, I would have called well, you know what? Your damn job is to see it referees. I loved it. That's like an excuse. Well, I didn't see what the hell do we have out here. He's the guy cutting. That's where the ball is being passed. It's not happening on the weak side of the floor. It's embarrassing. It's bear. Sing for them and embarrassing for the league. They're not gonna make that call. That was embarrassing. We got absolutely screwed tonight at one a year detail recall and how much did that cost you. Oh, wow. I mean David Stern, air, those all cost you about thirty five thousand atoms been a little nicer. Closer to like fifteen thousand for most of them..
