Environmental Concerns Arise Over Energy Needed To Mine Bitcoin

"Making or mining. Bitcoin requires a lot of energy which can mean burning more fossil fuels now at the same time states are making a push for clean energy. So does something here have to give. Here's von golden from member station w. skg in new york's finger lakes about one hundred. People are walking down the shoulder of a highway overlooking seneca lake. They're heading down to the greenwich generation. Power plant the natural gas-fired facility generates some electricity. Oh what's gotten. The attention of. The activists is their generation of bitcoin. They're protesting today. Because greenwich is looking to expand. Its bitcoin mining. That would probably mean burning. More natural gas emitting more greenhouse gases. Yvonne taylor is vice. President of seneca lake guardian and is leading the opposition to greenwich. We simply cannot allow this ludicrous scheme of burning fossil fuels to make fake money in the midst of climate generating or mining. Cryptocurrency is complicated. there's no actual mining the gist. Is that a whole lot of computers. Do a whole lot of calculations to create digital currency that requires a ton of energy which can mean burning more fossil fuels. And that's the case with greenwich. The plant isn't always producing electricity for the grid so a few years ago. They figured out they could make a profit by using excess power to mind bitcoin. Dale irwin manages. The plant came up to that. It was a very good business solution for irwin. Won't say exactly how much more the plant will emit with its expansion. Only that it'll be in compliance with its

"This is a Bloomberg money minute. The Hollywood production model has been disrupted by covert 19 so movie makers have been forced to adapt. It is the most disorienting and most exhilarating time. I think that I've ever been in the entertainment industry. Adam Goodman, former president of Paramount Pictures, and DreamWorks SKG, now runs a digital content studio called Invisible Narratives. Smaller, more nimble productions are Having more success and more safety on the set. His movie songbird was shot with new safety protocols. We created these cells, and so there was a season of the zone and in Asia. And it was very frustrating because movie crews have great rhythm and great speed and efficiencies of which 100 years of making movies is nearly perfected. Seven was was really challenging, but thankfully we got through it. The film now set for release is being built as the first major Hollywood movie about the pandemic. Mona Rivera Bloomberg Radio president of the Jewish communal Fund, Zoya Rains, and her husband, Robert Friedman, Jewish activists and philanthropists talk about why they chose the Jewish communal fund for their charitable giving as very busy working parents. We wanted to focus more on the charity part of it and wanted to focus more on our Children. And less on the administration. The twos communal fund is one of the oldest and largest donor advised funds, but at the same time, they're totally up to date and have state of the art systems for us to access and manage our contributions online. The assets in our funds at the J. C. F grow tax free so we can generate more charitable dollars to support the charities that we care about Most..

"At nine this morning in Maryland Senate committee advances. Bill to abolish states handgun permit board. We're talking with Bill Marshall, these senior investigative for judicial Judicial Watch is a career and until analysis and former federal law DA official should say and Bill you said it's up to general bar. There are now reports the two prosecutors have left Muller's investigative team. What can we what what should we be looking for from general bar here to see if he's on the right track? Well, you know, I saw an inter a very interesting video recently by epoch times in which they are sort of trying to read the tea leaves about a potential indictment coming down of many officials that are that we spend discussing that are involved in this. And I hope that's the case. I really do. I hope that that we're gonna see serious action taken against all these officials Brennan. Clapper Komi McCabe struck all these people and the suggestion by epoch times is being done extremely covertly in order not to put targets on the backs of the of the US attorney's that are, you know, John Huber being being potentially one of them in Utah. Who was tasked you'll recall by general, editor former attorney general Jeff Sessions to of conductive review of of the Hillary Email of the handling of the Hillary Email server investigation, which is a whole 'nother matter that was truly outrageous. And I I can't I can't imagine the the the consequences of high would be facing. You know, had I treated classified information when I was in the government, which had access in the manner that that Hillary Clinton did that's you know, that's just another topic that we'd been addressing we've been looking at carefully here. And I've had I've had the good fortune of being able to be involved in that as well. An investigation of the the handling the Email server. For investigation and an examining, for example. Email traffic with Hillary which expose much of the paper play corruption and the trafficking of top secret information across this ridiculously unsecure server that Hillary now the Hillary was using Bill. You know, it's really hard for me to believe that the likes of James Clapper. William Brennan, Peter Struck Lisa page, Andrew McCabe, you name. It all got together one day. And they decided, you know, we gotta take down this president or even before he became president make sure that he doesn't become president because they had to know the consequences if they ever got caught is there someone above all of them. Who made the orchestrating all this? That's that's a great question. And when I was yeah, I ponder to who is who is pulling the strings and this whole orchestration of this. And I have to come back to to to Brennan. You know, there were there were there were these meetings going on at Langley, and this is not been, you know, this is not been refuted called the interagency task force meetings. Where you had a number of of senior officials having John Solomon is written pretty sensible on this on this subject were meeting at Langley periodically sort of covert meetings. I think this was the essence of two of the of the plotting that was going on. I think we're crying at Langley under front Brennan's direction. So I have to assume that he was near the top of the architecture. If you will. And then it was it was delegated to minions like Peter strategic to carry out much of the sort of the the mechanics of it. You know in the weeds, whereas you had you have people like browsing Clapper, frankly intelligent enough to to something like this together. I think it was more likely Brennan. But all of this has to be addressed because we're we're very serious trouble. If it if it is, you know, you didn't mention Loretta. Clincher President Obama. I well, I to them. I yes, I I absolutely think it came. You know, I don't think we're gonna find the fingerprints of rock Obama on on this. I mean, are they are they know enough to insulate him? They knew enough to insulate him from anything that maybe could directly tie him in. But he was clearly we now know from communications being briefed on all this. You know, we've seen we seen from Lisa page communications. You know that the briefings for going on at the White House. And I cannot believe that all that the actions of this magnitude would not have been under would not have been would have been undertaken without the blessing of of Barack Obama himself Bill. We got we got about thirty seconds. Just wanted to get your thoughts on one thing. And that is the stand down order not to indict or prosecute Hillary Clinton. That's become a focus of late any theories on who that is a lot of a lot of speculation. But in your investigative work any theories who it might be. Well, I I would imagine would have come from Loretta Lynch SKG at the time. I mean, she would have been the one that was that was would work later that water to them. I choose the only one that would have the power to and again, she would only been done that should only done that at the direction of Barack Obama. I believe although you know, that will never be. I don't think that will ever be up to you know, that that that he was the ultimate right plausible deniability. All right Bill. Thanks so much for joining us. It's been fascinating discussion. Appreciated senior investigative producer watch Bill Marsh. We'll talk to you again in the near future. All right. Thanks very much say fifty two..

"On K G O eight ten the country needs a credible resolution to these issues, and if confirmed I will not permit partisan politics, personal interest or any other improper consideration to interfere with this or any other investigation. That's a bar who is trying to be our attorney general promise what he just said right there. Hi, it's ship. That's Nikki SKG promise. What he just said. There is he's already commented on Muller. And he's given us opinions in twenty sixteen for twenty seventeen. She's me about the investigation saying that he thought that he'd gone past his original mandate. This guy should not be the attorney general of the United States attorney general during the Bush, forty one. Yeah. But that was twenty five. Years ago. Or twenty so ninety two ten eighteen years ago. Sorry, nonetheless. So no, it was twenty one twenty eight years ago building I'm asking for your help. I'm looking at. Hello. Everyone knows forty-one you're talking about. Okay. Riffing and not just needed some background help. But you left me hanging anyway. So. Here's the thing that bothers me most about what he said is that again, this is the Senate confirmation hearings. He said that he may withhold parts of Muller's investigation. Is that really again, if you don't let me just lay out if you don't understand what's happening here. Okay. The executive branch the government entails all the intelligence, agencies and law enforcement. Okay. That's what executive dust, right? The house can have inquiries, and they can subpoena people to testify, but they can indict anybody they you know, they can recommend if somebody lies to them. They can recommend that to the Justice department for prosecution, but they can't do it themselves. Okay. And of course, we know what in the judiciary. Does you know, they just they make they re rulings? And you know, they can hear cases as to whether the constitution been violated. Bob, la. So he is head of the Justice department, which includes the FBI CIA, the NSA everything that that law enforcement Kwami, whether it's here in the United States with the FBI overseas with the NSA DIA defense intelligence and all of them. So at this point, and we're gonna have a guy on Friday at I believe at three thirty. I don't have it in front of me who's written a book. About special prosecutors and why they're important because thing about this. The president is a pointing the person that's investigating him. What's wrong with that picture? Right. Right. Right. And especially a guy that's already come out and said two things I mean Cavanaugh was I is it when he nominated a guy who said we I don't think we should be able to remove a sitting president or investigative sitting president. This guy said I think the monitoring police gone too, far he doesn't even know what molars looking at. He wasn't even a position to judge because he didn't know. Why yelling infuriates me so eight hundred eighty eight ten if you got any common sense. But this is the part that really ticks me off is that he's telling me Joe citizen and Jane citizen to my right here that we are not allowed to see the inquiry into the alleged crimes of the president his family and his cohorts. We we should be able to see that information. Why I paid for it? And unless it includes a picture of of some Russian Hooker doing something to Trump. That's I don't wanna see redact that you can take that out. I don't care about that were Dax to your heart's delight. But the rest is mine just remember this every day when you see a congressman or Senator or the president democrat or Republican they work for us. We're not their constituents. We should all get an on a plane and go to Washington and kick down there freaking doors. You're going to need an appointment. No. I don't I sign your paycheck. Every weekday take it out in that pays you. Whatever a good word is that I can't say I mean the thing about that. I mean, we forget about that. Right. I don't think I don't think that we do exercise. Our was Ted Cruz or Eric swallow one. I like when I loathe if they walked in the bills now, we'd all be like. Right. We would do that Gavin Newsom comes in. It's like it's like the bachelor walked and all the women goes do. And the guys are me everybody else your little intimidate. Why why don't we do that a just regular people? But they are our employees. But we act like we work for them. Exactly. So when Barr says, well, we may hold some of that back. I don't go to your house, dude. I've not I'll go on your house in. "And for some people that could be thousands and thousands of dollars just reading here. Some of these people Blue Cross a five thousand dollar deductibles. And and he gets one the only interesting thing. One piece of good news. Oh, it says currently their health insurance will not lapse, but they've never had anything that's gone more than ninety days. So they're they're they're they're wonder if when the next quarter comes up. What they think there might be an out for some of these health insurance companies. I mean, I can't imagine like Kaiser or Blue Cross dropping people because of so hopefully that won't happen. When this I'll tweet this out now, but you know, the shutdown came at the worst period for them. You know, it's interesting. The fears people have now there's one shutdown there's two congresses. And we talked about this this shutdown congress those guys stopped getting paid. It'd be a totally different deal. Right. They would shut Trump back hard. They would pass funding Bill, and then they pass it again with a two-thirds majority or they might just passed to the first time with a two-thirds majority just to show him. Yeah. Anyway. So that's that's what's happening in in Washington. We're gonna get a story in just two minutes of what's happening here. But I want to get some of you guys on been hanging on the lines as well. You're welcome to call them at eight hundred eighty eight ten that's Nikki right there. I'm chip geo-. Let's go to Judy. Hi, judy. Thanks for calling and threw shade. You're hanging in there. What part of this whole shutdown strikes? You the most or infuriates you the most or angers you the most. Or are you agree with? I I hate it. And I think that's unfair. And. Willie angers me is Trump's spreading the fear of migrant crimes. Yes. They have committed crimes, but nothing is being said about our own homegrown criminals. It is not the migrants who have walked into our schools and killed our children. Walk into theaters killing innocent people walk into synagogues and killed people. While they're praying that person, of course, prided on my Trump himself jeers and people have been targets of these people that he is actually not tacitly supported outright supported like in Charlottesville. Now. It's not emigrants who are killing the policemen on the street. But Judy is something you should know. And and I don't know if you do know this that undocumented Americans people who came here without papers commit crime at the same rate Americans do citizens or in some cases, lower lower rates sanctuary size, actually, make cities safer because the the people that live there can report crime so that fear of getting deported. So they'll see a crime, they'll call the police show up. They'll give them a report. But if they were afraid of getting deported. They would not call police so sanctuary cities whenever you're somebody talks about that they make America safer. So that's and. In the manga who killed that policeman. Who I did not pick up. Why is picking up innocent people who did nothing, but they pay on to pick him up. Look. Trump has migrants working in every facilitate that he owns do. We know. Legal or illegal. Well, there's some documented for sure, and I should mention too that he has Japanese steel and every one of his buildings when he talks about. Make America America unless it's unless it inconveniences me. Jim, jim. Thanks for hanging in there. Appreciated your on ship. Nikki okay GIO. Hey, Jeff how you doing? Happy new year Nike happy new year. Right. Hey, no. I'm torn between. You know what? My my cousin works by texting them saying like when when I was on hold. Hey, you have your health insurance? He goes. Yes. Why are you sick? And with that. I mean because I have a little bit skin in the game with with family members that it just seems like, you know, what if we sign it and congress gets to go, and they get paid. It just keeps getting kicked down the road. Whether it's the wall or we can tie it in and get Dr settled or something out of this. But it seems like you know, what they let me buy your car. Let me drive it to not drive it. I don't want to buy it. So we give in here. And I and I understand with everybody else suspected and it's fortunate. But it just seems like we're always just kicking it in. You know, what maybe this is the thing that you know, what congress doesn't get paid or something. But we we get something done. Now. Why I mean, I hear what you're saying? But there is an option the. Democrats have put forward Jim where all the agencies that have nothing to do with the border wall would get funded and the department of homeland security wouldn't so they can continue debate. At some point that you can't kick the can down the road that much for homeland security. You have to do something. But Trump is willing to make that compromise which I think is the most unfair thing possible. I have skin in the game with my family members to brother-in-law that's a correctional officer they're on the verge of not making their mortgage payment, if they don't get their paycheck, and let's just go back a second and examined just the law for what it's supposed to do. We have negative immigration. We have more people going back to Mexico than are coming here. There is no increase in crimes from people who are crossing the border and the idea that the wall which would cost somewhere between twenty and twenty eight billion dollars would actually stop. This is crazy because we have we've had a wall down from Santa sedro thirty miles up to I think all the way into the desert, and then people in the desert have to make that incredible track that dangerous trek with coyotes in order to get here. The the wall is about Trump making a promise to the xenophobic, and in this particular case racist people in his party. Somewhere learned there's gotta be a compromise. Whether it's for security, or you know, what I mean. Open borders, in my opinion, while work buddy wants. Wants that. Don't have open borders. Okay. Nope. And even with with fright citizenship. That's a whole nother can of worms. No, it's a fourteenth amendment. Paul stop. It's the fourteenth amendment to the US constitution. It's not a can of worms. It is in our US constitution. Okay. But I don't I don't think it's right that you would have somebody from a foreign country give birth here. And then there will be a citizen. I think that there is a I think there's a compromise that could be found there. And we've talked about this before I think you just coming on vacation and staying here all of a sudden your kid gets American citizenship just because you happen to give birth. No. I think that in your visa, it should be stipulated whether or not you plan to live here and be part of the community or you're just on vacation on vacation, your kid doesn't have citizenship. So I mean, there's there's a compromise there. But people have to start a stop speaking in. These absolute everyone that comes here and gives birth your wants to be an American citizen. I just think that people need to take a deep breath, and we need to find common ground while we debate these issues again the wall is has nothing to do with any of these issues. The wall is about Trump posturing and using it to scare people in this base. That's all there's no other substantive reason for this wall. Why did he wait for two years than to do a shutdown right now because he's floundering because mother has him in his crosshairs? This is Trump's last desperate act. We'll take more of your phone calls and give you give you some of the other things that really will hurt federal. Workers as well. And also the question in this hour, we'll be about whether or not you would interfere to try to protect somebody in a domestic violence situation. Apparently, that's why somebody died our first murder of the year. And there's another story to about somebody to try to help a homeless person. And it it went badly. That's coming up next the poll numbers, eight hundred eighty eight ten I'm chip that's Nikki SKG chip.

"Sixty AM the answer. Well, it's only the second game to go into the books involving a west coast conference team as we get you caught up on the scoreboard after Broncos Seventy-nine seventy one victory here against Washington state and Spokane BYU taking on number nineteen Mississippi State at Mississippi State, one of three eighty one the final scores. Mississippi State beats the Cougars. So Dave roses team despite twenty five points from Yolly child's goes down to defeat other games involving teams in the west coast conference much later, San Jose State at Saint Mary's Gaels look to improve to nine and six victory Portland at Cal State Fullerton. That's coming up at six o'clock to Saint Mary's San Jose State games at five Irvine at you. Oh p that's coming up at seven o'clock tonight. Irvine eleven at three you'll P nine and five. And then I think the one that you, and I are interested in keeping a close eye on as USF off to their outstanding start twelve and one visiting Santa Barbara at nine and three and. What do they call it down there thunderdome at Santa Barbara? I forget I forget, I was gonna say gauchos down there Galina. But no, I'm not really sure where they play UCSB is at nine and three. So that game starting at seven o'clock catching up on Bronco news. We broke the bad news SKG Fagin done for the year out for the remainder of the season with right foot surgery yesterday been out since early November with a broken bone in his thumb the cast has finally come off. But then this most recent injury injury kind of sprung up in the last couple of weeks. So unfortunately, the Broncos will not have K J Fagin for the remainder of the season. At least in this game. The Broncos didn't need them Santa Clara had everything they needed in order to beat the Washington state huskies by a score of seventy nine to seventy one. We're now joined by Bronco head coach herb syndicate who take a deep breath. I was keeping an eye on you, and and back and forth at the end of the game and locked in and focused just like your Broncos where to get this win on the road. Really proud of the guys effort coming off of the holidays. They really executed offensively for the most part throughout the game in the second half. I think they took it even to another level both against the zone and the man. Coach. I thought the ball pressure was excellent. Most of the time with sometimes we lack a little bit of weeks. I help it got a couple of easy lips. But I'll tell you what we took care of the boards tonight. I thought Caruso played excellent first-half. He's just getting better. And better. He is as are all our young guys. But you're right Willie now has shown some consistency. In his play and continues to improve tremendously we overcame early foul. Trouble yields picked up his third in the first half Taj had to relatively early files. And we weathered that storm defensively. You know, I think our guys were very aware of Washington state's three point shooting excellence. They come into the game making ten threes. A game forty five percent of all their shots are from three. And perhaps at times we got a little spread out. They also tend to play small at the four spot for almost the entire game. If not the entire game. And I think that in turn opened up some some drives. But we gotta be better on the ball. We got to be better with our help one of the little kid. I know there was a lot of video watched about Carter Skaggs and his ability to shoot three with not leading needing a lot of room. The Broncos were as close as you can get without touching and most of the night and he finished one for five. That's right. No in the in the one. He got Josh Martin in the first half went for a loose ball didn't get it. And he got to kick out on the on the Washington state recovery. So our guys tremendous awareness and really did a good job on Skaggs because you're right. He has NBA range with an extremely quick release. Not to mention this is that he has as well. We know how the guys can add to that locker room. Coach. I think trae words we'll get a little bit of good natured ribbing for the air ball from the free throw line. But coach is a freshman. No turnovers. Yeah. That was the breakthrough. Two turnovers in our last game. They were both on screens. So as a coach I'll, you know, I'll take those on my plate and now today's zero turnover. So he's played the last two games. Without turning the basketball over and it makes a big difference for our team. And the great thing about trade is he's coach, you know, we we spent a lot of time. You know, talking about things and he absorbed Tillman he's really trying to put them into action right now. How much will let you go after this because they're starting to take the chairs ran out from under us here at the arenas. They clean up. But how far is this team come from first couple of weeks of the season leading into conference play Thursday against San Diego. Well, it's a it's a completely different team. "Owns, as you know, is known best for moon, which was his debut direct toil feature. And he's also directed source code warcraft. And most recently, the net flix film mutes and he's been kind of, I want to say on downward trend since moon, but moon was definitely a really promising really great breakout film. And since then he's kind of struggled to keep make a firm impact since then. So maybe a TV series will be really interesting and really good next step for him. You know, it sounds like a cool synopsis and I know that you know, he's, he's definitely like one of those filmmakers who's very open on Twitter and, and you know, seems like a genuinely good person. So I think I'm always interested in and you know he's a, he's a good director as well. So I'm very interested to see the show and what he does, we know what network is going to be on yet, or is it still sort of in the early dealt? Yeah, it's still in development. So there's no network attached yet look. Cool, Brad. You have any thoughts about Dunkin Jones at all? As a director? Yeah, feels like he's kind of taking the same trajectory as Neil Blom camp where he had this amazing debut and has yet to capture anything as good as that yet. And while his movies have had some interesting ideas and some solid sequences and you know, a very confident approach, they just they haven't really. I don't know, felt like, you know, the same kind of filmmaker has been behind the the movies that what he was when we look behind moon. Yep, I think that's fair. So our next item, this one is kind of interesting. It's a company called new TV, which is that's a working title. That's terrible name for company. It's one word, new TV, but apparently they're going to get a real name sometime in the next couple of weeks. But Jeffrey Katzenberg is one of the co founders of this company and Katherine Berg for those of you don't know used to be the chairman of Walt Disney studios. He was the co, founder of DreamWorks. If you seen a DreamWorks movies might recognize drew. Remarks SKG those he is the k. in SKG there and he has founded this company called new TV and their aim is to basically change the way that audiences watch mobile content. And so basically they his company just raised one billion dollars to do this, and they're looking to launch by the end of twenty nine thousand nine with a premium lineup of original short form series comprising episodes of ten minutes each.
