"Much up for about an hour last night and then we stop staring into it and we scored a few goals and all of a sudden. I think that everything is going to be absolutely perfect forever forever and ever it got bleak last night it got dark. It's amazing it's almost like. Us soccer twitter jayjay. It's of all like the twitter spaces. I think it's the most manic roller coaster ride. It's crazy is for for people who don't follow a lot of us soccer accounts or whatever like it's a crazy place. And i think last night we actually at halftime had a manager. Change greg bear halter. He was fired on. Us soccer twitter at the end of the first half. Then after the subs anthony robinson's go. We played three minutes without a manager. But after robinson's goal bear halter was actually rehired and finish the game out as manager. So he's now back in his second stint with us soccer and it was very interesting as well for an hour and starting mls players. Terrible idea what are you doing. Joe bed better terrible. We smelled and then for the last twenty minutes. It was like land. That i love stand beside. Mls son guide its players to the national team. Flooding Is Getting Worse. Can Tech Help Us Deal With It?

"Infrastructure. It's boring visible. We only care about it when things go wrong. Things have been going wrong. Punishing storms have caused catastrophic flooding in new york texas louisiana. The list goes on but water systems are expensive time. Consuming and hard to fix technology may provide some relief. Paul robinson is executive director of rise. A nonprofit accelerator in norfolk virginia. That helps develop climate tech. He says one of the companies they fund is stormcenter which put sensors in storm and sewer pipes. They measure the amounts of flow and in which direction is flowing. And how food the pri- the pipe is and you want to know when if you're pipe is full or blocked or flowing the wrong way. That's important for the city to know they can react to that. Why how hard is it for cities to know what the status of their pipes are right. Now it's not easy because the pipes are buried and there's no one down there on a regular basis so you don't know if sediments building up or if there's a garbage bag in some sticks down there this creating a blockage so having sensors placed within the storm water pipe making measurements and reporting them out to the cloud for analysis is pretty important and that's what storm sensors come in and done in in our region. They put twenty sensors that will start to detect the direction of the flow. We're on a river and the river is on the coast and so We're affected by high tight the river and the ocean come up stormwater system and when there's a a storm surge it can go really far up the storm water system and come out the drains and start to flood the city streets and so knowing that that's going to happen. Helps the city understand how their streets are going to be affected. Also if they can detect parts of the system is being clogged with sediment that helps them send a crew over with a vacuum truck to clean up the blockage. So that doesn't get any

Texas' Near-Total Abortion Ban Takes Effect

"Cambridge before roe v wade and so i know what it was like when women didn't have this choice we couldn't control our own bodies our own destinies here. We are fifty years later fighting the same battle again. It's incredible to think that we would be going backwards. It's the women of limited means women of color women in rural parts of texas who do not have access. This is just devastating. Big no options whatsoever the texas law virtually banning abortion that went into effect today could have an impact on women far outside that state opponents were banking on the supreme court stepping in and stopping the measure from taking effect. But that didn't happen as political sums it up the court's decision to not act on an emergency petition from texas abortion. Clinics comes as the justices. Prepare to more. Broadly reconsider the right to an abortion. It established almost fifty years ago. Back with us tonight. Eugene robinson pulitzer prize winning columnist for the washington. Post and susan dell persio of veteran political strategist boast are msnbc analysts. Thanks to both of you for being with us susan. Let's start with you. There are a lot of people who fully know that. Republicans at a state level have been attempting things that are either faints or real attempts to to place restrictions on abortion for some years now but this has surprised a lot of the fact that something that feels very much like a total ban on abortion could actually get past the supreme court. Absolutely i ate it. Is it's sending shockwaves especially to a lot of the republicans who may instead like yes. I'm pro-life but you know roe v. wade's the lay the law of the land and they also believed in Exceptions to incest rape which this law does not have this is the harshest law that i think republicans could ever see coming and at this point i think even some republicans are going to have a hard time getting behind it. The Electric Grid-Lock

"Robinson. Mayer is a writer at the atlantic and author of the newsletter. The weekly planet so robinson. Let's turn up very basically How is the power grid in the. Us organized nationals state by state. Oh well it's it's a disaster honest basically. There's three grids in the us. There is the eastern grid which kind of runs to the middle of the country. There's the westerner connect and then there's texas and we are just going to set x aside. So here's the thing. All the grids within those big interconnections like talk to each other and are connected so you could move electricity from like connecticut to new york to new jersey even though those are kind of like three different local grids. Yeah but like. You can't move electricity super easily from oklahoma to new jersey. The dream of a national grid is that you build those across the country so that we have like basically like an electricity interstate highway system linking the whole country. What is so bad about the current situation. I mean what would actually be so much better if everything were fixed and perfect like i dunno with power bills be like a quarter as expensive. Would they be like a couple of bucks. Plus would it be like our carbon emissions would go down by eighty percent. I mean what are the stakes here. The stakes here. I think are really two fold. The first is gonna need transmission to solve climate change. We just need it. that is blowing. My mind is not that big of a deal transmission. It's really so. It's a huge deal to fight. Climate change right. We need to build as much low-carbon electricity generation as possible right as many renewables and so it is just true that we have a power system that right now. Basically relies on kind of power plants to generate electricity. A lot of the time and we're moving to a power system where we have to be kind of more entrepreneurial about where electricity is flowing from anyone moment

"For anybody who is new to the podcast and hasn't read the hundreds to thousands of pages of regulations. Walk us through the cliff notes. Version of what. Those two pieces of regulations actually say. So they're both about disclosure to the consumer of data that's being collected about them. They're both about setting up infrastructure that allows the consumer to see that data setting up infrastructure that allows the consumer to have that data deleted. And that's kind of above all else the spirit of both of them by the way marketers. I'm sure shake their heads. The sort of ops people the way that all of that was decided by the governments that it had to be achieved. It's just huge infrastructure pains in the acids right so everybody went through that. Gdp are and a lot of the stuff that you had to go through on that side of things on the disclosure side of things was the same for ccpa where there's a big difference is gdp. Art is actually a consent for first party data collection on the internet policy. Meaning it's opt in period in order for anyone to collect data on a european citizen. You must have a first party. Opted to collect it to use it what that is simply not the case with. Ccpa in cpr in cpr is just like the second sort of evolution of cpa is not in optimum for data collection policy. It is opt out policy. The consumer has the option to opt out of you collecting their data. But it doesn't touch. This issue of optimal marketing does not touch this issue of opt in to sort of have my data shared. It doesn't touch that stuff at all so listening to what our service does which we basically pass our customers plain text emails of people that visited their website but didn't fill out a form. A very common reaction is while. How is that legal in the weeks. Explain that is legal. I can't spam sanderson people say well it's definitely not ccpa compliant well. It actually is if you make the appropriate privacy policy changes on your website for most people what they did to be compliant with gdp are suffices in by the way. I'm not a lawyer so this is not legal advice. But the biggest difference between the two and the biggest confusion. I see people making is the assumption that since gdp are is opt in in ccpa is the gdp are the us. We have to do the same things that we did for judy. Pr we may not have made the changes for for us audience. We have do the same things for our. Us partner website. It's just not true.

Remembering Climate Change, a Message From the Year 2071

"Twenty two thousand. As we're a crux in human history they began with the first pandemic a slap to the face of everyone as they had to acknowledge that they were a single civilization on a single biosphere utterly dependent on science to keep them alive. Civilization is a fragile thing and although people started the twenties hoping to ignore that profound truth even after the first pandemic the great heat waves of twenty twenty three torched any such hope humans cannot survive combinations of high heat and high humidity that rise above an index temperature called wet bulb thirty five and that year the wet bulb thirty six events in india in southeast asia and in the american midwest killed so many more people than the first pandemic that it was made clear to everyone things simply had to change the arrival of the second pandemic put an exclamation mark on all that the question that desperate point was could things change could humanity stop it's destructive ways and restore balance to its relationship to its biosphere crucially. Could it lower the global average temperature of the earth in time to avoid killing millions more people more animals and indeed entire species looking back from our perspective sixty years later this of course looks possible because they did but it was by no means a sure thing you have to imagine what it felt like at the time when panic filled the air and no one could be sure. Success was even physically possible many declared that humanity was doomed. This is why that decade gets called the turbulent twenties or the terrifying twenties only much later did some historians began to call it the terrific twenties or even the roaring twenties although that's a historians joke and as usual a bad one it was not at all like the roaring twenties of a century before it was much stranger than that in these critical years lessons learned in the first pandemic put to use. The scientific community had rallied to meet that crisis in an unprecedented way. Unleashing a burst of cooperation and creativity never seen before and now they did it again.

"Right into a charlie. This is this is what we like to do. This is only like to think about. This is what we're looking forward to this summer after that. Big nations league victory from the us. Mnt the gold cup. We knew that this was not going to be the same roster. That went out competed oakley one that nation's league tournament gregg berhalter has been saying it for a long time. We're gonna have to separate groups. There might be a little bit of overlap and likely that overlap is gonna come from mls players because it is the summer and you've got transfer window open you've got guys going into preseason camps trying to earn their way like for instance. He said brian reynolds not here because joe's marino doesn't generally play younger players so they want brian reynolds to beat at roma from the jump with the new manager to make sure he has a chance to get into the team otherwise he's going to be working From behind a couple other names in that scenario where cameron carter vickers gotta figure his cup situation. Eric palmer brown to figure out his cup situation. And greg said admitted our centre-back cool is a little bit light. So here is the roster for those of you who haven't seen it goalkeepers matt turner the likely starter. Funny story there. We'll get to that shawn johnson. Brad gazon defenders george bellew reggie cannon shack more. That was a little bit of a surprise. Donovan pines another site. Nicholas keeney matthew hoppy. Who's in for the first time. Jonathan lewis josse artists. Give me your initial reactions. You saw this. Twenty-three you're thinking about the summer you're thinking about the task at hand which is both to win a gold cup but also develop players to push into the first team to get to the world cup. What are you thinking right now on this thursday morning for me. I'm thinking there's not any anyone that i'm particularly surprised about. That's one too. I think this group is is has enough quality to win now if mexico brings. They're a team. That's going to be challenged in especially with mexico hungary to avenge that nation's league loss.

"Robbing wisconsin. And you know he was a bit uncomfortable. How much of a bad boy. Tom was in the early days. Yeah that's true such an amazing series when you sit here talking about it and you really realize it like a lot of the star trek shows. They're special in their own right and certainly this one was yes i think so and i think it's it's not necessarily especially in the way that people expected it to be known it totally makes sense. Yep i think the thing that really makes fire is when seven get star that relationship between seven and giant y really drives the the story so often because sign much conflict so much different points of view Stand you diagnose right along the Yeah i mean that was one of the things the cherry scientists that she loves to find the didn't didn't turn the the bowl into black hat. Billons belief in perfection was pretty defensible Wives and and again you just on thing. Where sometimes chemistry between access rabies fox. I mean those of a conflict between themselves as access but it just. It was all grist to the mill. Gives you bet scenes on screen. I thought something that just to kind of wrap up into last episode endgame. Part of me was kinda sad. It was over because the scenes between janeway and the board queen wonderfully returning was alice. Krieger who were just electric scenes and it was like oh man why they ending it while you would have been sadder finding that. I just why he wants to kill seven. He wanted that to debate the big finales. They wanted it to be seven sacrifice alive in order to get the crew on that that would have if they done that. That would have created amazingly memorable. Not that there's anything wrong we will but real And as he said she wouldn't have been caught. So just as you know. I liked endgame and it was certainly one of the more satisfying and stewart show and the choices that janeway has to make in the episode are are classic star trek choices involving time. Of course they all have to make. It's great thanks zones a one. Nothing i'm donald j so can Again if you try to go to a network and pitch shire you said the hero in my shower is an oxygen area will. What's on my planner for the day. Just take some of the lotion. Rub it all over your body and you can lock in your up to twenty four hours. It comes in a couple of different sizes but you should probably just get the big one because you can never have enough lotion. This daily moisturizer lucien is the real deal. Oh and did i. Mention all flamingos products are die. Frey paraffin free an cruelty free. What are you waiting for. Give your skin the tlc. It needs with flamingos body. Moisturizing sweet find it on shop. Flamingo dot com. There was a quote that you said about google it. Did you give backlash for for telling people to go. Google every once in a while so it'd be like well. You're not helping. I'm like it's not my job to headlight. i like. i'm not a walking library. Like i just feel like if you can like like last night i was on postmates for twenty minutes trying to decide which taco place to get tacos from. If you could do that for twenty minutes you could do that about like racial injustice. It's it's not that hard to take the initiative. And i think people want to have like oh i just had. There's no possible way. That i can sort of like dive into this. And it's like you just roll up your selena pressure but you just like you roll up your sleeves and you just pick up a book and you start with one book and lead to another book and then you know you start sort of taking what you're reading in putting that into your actions like it's not glamorous work work it's not easy 'cause it's like any time you get involved in any sort of justice space or sort of like just bettering your community you have to also realize the ways that you have kinda turned a blind eye to things that maybe you shouldn't have and so it's just about accountability. And we all have to be accountable. We all have to step up and do more than what we're doing. So that is my my new answer. Now as google it honey i am tired so google it i love it i love. I started laughing. When i saw when i read that i loved to. I also love how you're creating spaces for people and like you said earlier like you're really focused on women people of color. Lgbtq plus and. i think that's great and i. I really wanna know from everything you're doing and everything you're involved and what do you want your legacy to be so good question. I think i think i want my legacy to be that a. I didn't do it alone. That people felt seen and heard in that. This sort of like love of curiosity and sort of like this hunger in this appetite for just sort of like wanting to hear new perspectives in new voices in align myself to be changed in an educated. Like i think. I want that to be my legacy. 'cause you know i feel so lucky to be in a position where i can have this imprint in that. We're restarted develop. Tv shows that are reflect. More of what's going on in society. And i think that that's a huge responsibility but be it's sort of like. How exciting is it to be like doing something. That's gonna make people feel good or doing something that's going allow people be like. Oh yes i can get my voice out there like to me. That is probably why. I am such a workaholic. 'cause i i love that high of just feeling like i can like extend. My platform include other people who wants to be at the top by themselves. Not that i'm at the top but who wants to you know you know what i mean like. I mean some would say differently. I see what the top. Oh thank you. But i i love ambitious women damn straight. Yeah i really want people to feel like we. You're pursuing something you don't have to only just think about yourself but then there's there's so much out there that you can share it with others. Sounds my other dramatic. I'm also really excited to watch. Which you're headlining for amazon d- End of twenty twenty the yearly departed disley. Sort of the first in person. Sheep that i've done since quarantine like i really like. I don't wanna like go anywhere. Because i'm like really scared blah blah blah and. They took care of us so well like the covid testing the temperature like everything was like so on point but yet this comedy special really just wanted to be like we know this year has been awful is so many ways so yet is just really great to have all these amazing women just sort of like take down things have been like really crummy twenty twenty and try to make us laugh a little bit. Because i think we're all feeling so heavy is so weary that it's really nice to just like okay. I can turn off my brain for an hour and just have a good time. Thank god and we hope that twenty twenty one will be much better than this shit show you know. Better really cheese lewis. Well i guess one hand twenty twenty has sort of taken so much from us like our jobs you know our sanity but also on the other hand has given us the freedom to be panelists and i have. I have short song for you right now. Because i respect and honor you but i've done so many like zooms boyfriend's like you're rolling dice here lost moves. Someone's gonna see your hanes her way so you might wanna hey her way ladies and gentlemen that is not a sponsor so you know it's a balance like you're feeling this sort of freedom but also you're like sorta like just stressed the whole time so i'm hoping that next year will feel like will be more connected to ourselves and like things will just be better and you'll remember to put your cancel before i leave my apartment. Yes on that ice. Thank you so much for coming under pretty big deal and thank you again for putting on shorts for me because i. I can't tell you how many times i've done interviews and fall. I feel you feel. Thanks for having me on. I can't believe it's already over. I feel like we're just abridge just hanging out so great and that's where we should be doing. There are so many good brunch spots in park slope by the way we gotta like. Maybe we can work something. We can rollerblade with a mosa. I want to break all my bones. I'm just say right now. "Heart of what a leader does. To instill confidence demonstrate that he or she knows what they're talking about and he communicates people. If you listen to me and followed I'm suggests that we can fix this stock market crash. Franklin. Roosevelt got on television and didn't just talk about the. Degrees see. There you go. Liberals are stupid. Do you want to be stupid? You could be a stupid liberal. What would you do like? How'd you teachable Reagan in their? How teach about Reagan? Would you? Would? You actually would you? Be All video or how'd you do I? Think Reagan would be reserved for Sunday's God's Day of course. Sure. So it's Robinson educate with a call. It's Robinson Academy Robinson Academy Robinson? Okay Robinson Academy ours. I think it would have to start out as like a school for troubled youth like your did you catch your your daughter with some Elizabeth Warren Paraphernalia seal later you're going to Robinson Academy and make sure. Yeah. Yes. Yay Have you straight little free market economics yes. That's not bad. That is not yet. That's not bad or yeah. I'm Bob puts for social stuff. All in right to go all. The social stuff but yeah. Yeah. I think that that comes afterwards. Right I think that there's a there's a progression to bring someone to light I. Think it's much easier to convince them that the economic side with mom and dad comes and says, you know Young Jenny has touched young you know Cindy's who hoo-ha. I want to bring them in and see the light you're willing to do that too. So it was like a sexual assault thing and we need to hide. Oh. Between two teenage girl friends. Yeah I think that's less my bag. Okay. So you would say you reject that I would have to have I'd have to bring in an expert presumably professor pence is going to be sharing for a job at the Robinson Academy that's true. These guys are the boards and stuff after your. Professor Brockman up share I'm not fresher Koran. I'm not as much an ad Okay. But yeah if they say, you know, hey, you know my my my son, my seventeen year old son I found him he googled You know basically you know fly of, why should somebody make a million dollars a year? Yes. Yes Mo-. Billionaires are immoral to bring a man. Okay. The economics is a much easier debate. Hauling, you take the cure beginning to walk in walk out how much would they take the cure at? How much would you be willing? What would you charge? A sliding scale, it'd be a scholarship program. You do that Yeah Yeah I. Think you'd have to be I mean to some extent you're running like a social injustice advocacy group trying to make the world a better place to look good discriminate against poor people. Yeah. There's a tax write off to. A guy like me. Harry came you know if I'm looking herring Gary's Goo on the line you know whatever we'd probably do it for like sixty five for two semesters. Five grand. Yeah. For twosomes but you get to stay in the Ben Breakfast Yeah Food Yeah it's like it's a full full private school experience. These you know. Fluffy Liberal sports sports time it'd be what? A boxing would they be doing well I mean for debate debate societies like the the patrician lead we'd have to have golf share probably have some badminton right now croquet okay, and then we probably have the rougher more masculine sports like Football. Hockey, I think wow, this is quite a i. think isn't as as as gentle as we would be, it would be probably basketball full year full two semesters they would be cured of their disease Oh. Yeah. I think they'd want to come back give me a man to come back when you're done. You walk out of their graduate like question you ask these kids approved that they have fully. Crossed. Over. Probably. How many job offers do you have, right? Yeah. Okay. Robinson a cabin. Guaranteed. Job Placement. Do you think so? Okay. These to recruit. The Nest Cat schools is that right used to be every single senior was the recruiters were lined up all the big companies wanted to pick best of the the best of the best schools I'm come and it's not like that anymore. People graduating from very impressive schools who are you know saying Oh my master's degree or going to go beyond unemployment or take a gap year sound like a see the picture with on social media that girl holding up that sign that she was. I forget what her major was was stupid gender women's sobbing like that. She's like I. I'm part of the ninety nine percent. So no shakier who's GonNa hire you. But see that's that's not just her own decision making on. But it's the parents, but it's also the system that is the pressure within the government subsidies that are allowing her to get free and easy loan. So she can go study something worthless. Connected her loan repayment to her major, maybe things would be a little bit different would there be a here's a question. For Robinson Academy. Of which I may invest? What's the punishment? If you find somebody looking at The New York Times or Huffington post or sneaking upstairs watching Yummy I'm sure you'll. You'll be monitoring them with watching motto. So. That's not really a problem at Robinson Academy because you're supposed to be able to see the other side's arguments and empathize with them, and so you need exposure to what liberals are saying in order to find the studios growl needle into a Democratic candidate from your campus. Again, they have the freedom to do that I. mean that's part of conservatism they have their own, they have no punishment. There'd be no punishment for those kind of always get punishment. The useful things Honor Code violations. If you're not doing your work. Okay. Well, what were the old school conservatism? To take the Honor Code fairly seriously. Okay. So physical. No No, there won't be any corporal punishment. Would you? Be suspended. Okay. No refund on that tuition check..

Over the years Jackie continued to prove at his game and nineteen forty nine joined the All star team. In one, thousand, nine, hundred, eighty, five, the dodgers went to the world series and beat the Yankees for the championship. Later after retiring from Baseball Jackie Robinson was active in politics and later continued to speak out about equality in major league baseball. He later had a baseball stadium named after him, and the rookie of the year award was later called the Jackie Robinson Award. Hundred, Ninety, seven, his Jersey number forty two was retired, which means no one was able to use the same number because it would be reserved for Jackie. Jackie one said a life is not important except in the impact it has on others lives think about what that means for a moment. What does it mean to have an impact or make a difference in the lives of others for good? How can you make a difference in the lives of others for good? He also said life is not a spectator sport. If you're going to spend your life in the grandstand, just watching what goes on in my opinion, you're wasting your life. A spectator means just watching others. It's fun to watch others, but Jackie Sang. It's even better to get out and play yourself. Think of something he liked to watch. Have you ever considered doing it yourself?.

If it's not gonNA happen in a solitary mind just broke out right now. What move are you doing down the soul train? Line the kid warm the whole kit worm. That's how I am. That's what we call it. The thing where you only heard it references kick worm. Yeah well we used to have to kick to do it but I mean maybe it's changed. Everything shorten now saw so if bumper Robinson possible to pull your black card for something you know I mean when I say that thing that you do is like you're not black no more what would it be for me. Okra I also identified Okra. Slamming older disgusting. Green beans with Mucus and Snot in this gross. Jesus to accurate it is it is. It came from household where they made us eat. Whatever was on the plate so now yes you did. You don't have to like eat. Donaldson L. A. I grew up in La but they were from there. So but you never encountered like a chilling or anything right. No no no no but still Okra Okra. Okay you have to eat either. Chicken or an Oprah what are you going? I'll probably go to the speed my mouth. "So so thrilled to be here with one of my ex-boyfriends from the ninety s Mr Bumper Avenue thin. Well let me tell you. We were in Michael full-blown relationships since I can't even remember Definitely hit its peak when you were on a different world of course of course. Well we'll get into that. I think I think that we had such a long relationship one because you worked in every thing that I loved but also you kind of came into my life bumper Robinson in the middle of like my light skin curly hair face. Everybody at one if they tell you that they did not. You're lying but I have to confess that I cheated on you with Garfield from that group from genuine ochre sure and either devante or Dalvand from jealousy. I can't remember which one is the green. Is that it that was it. Don't feel great I understand. Thank you for being so forgiving Yeah well I'm assuming that choice did a senior thank. You say you gotTa jump so before we get into your really really long extensive resume I wanNA talk about little bitty baby bumper Robinson You have to tell me how you got the name bumper. I used to bump into everything. Yes I did and it was going to be bumper Robinson or low black kid who trips and falls on the time my my real name. I don't like a lot. Yeah my dad. Gave me the name that he has. Which is Larry and I never really liked. It always felt like that Larry was the dog in shows or the funny neighbor. Never really liked it so he didn't like it decided that he should give it to me so I could wear it and But I'm glad that he gave me bumper. I mean were you just like a clumsy kid? Was very equilibrium clumsy equilibrium everything. Oh East No. I grew it but not the name. Having is very great name for sure you've been working since three four four and a half. How did that happen where your parents is like okay? This kid is too cute to not be in everybody's faces so let's get into some additions. No actually my family moved out from Cleveland Ohio. I was born in Cleveland. My Dad decided to pursue his musical dreams in La I went to a Preschool. Where the owner of the preschools daughter worked at a casting company. They were casting for Bill Cosby Jello pudding pops commercial and they were looking for a talkative black kid and I was there talking. Yes so they took me into the commercial audition while I was supposed to be preschool. My parents came to pick me up from the preschool. And I wasn't there. Lucky for the folks at the Preschool ibook commercial. Because I think my dad probably would've told the place apart. How not so? You couldn't get away with that today. The preschool people were just like. Let's just take this kid same. Everybody was a lab after that. Nobody else how it was a different time. This was a long time ago. What's your earliest acting memory? Do you remember probably that That that and the my first ethical thing after that which was a CBS movie that we call cocaine. Blue Eyes with OJ. Simpson where I played his son so at that time it was it was really incredible to to work with Bill Cosby and then OJ Simpson. And I have no idea what the future would hold so Miss Cleo at the time being so young. Did you have a sense that like wow? These are like giants in the acting industry. They were just like really big important people no. I don't think it really you know I remember working with Bill. I it scared me because that whole situation was a little bit overwhelming for me. I was great in the in the room in the audition but the only thing I really cared about was the pudding POPs as we saw was that. Atkinson seems to be a really overwhelming thing. Especially when you're like a child in you did so much acting like did you some that. You enjoyed advocate loved it. I mean it was. I was doing before I could read so I have more memories of studio lots like my the schools that I went to I went to public school. But you know I remember certain studios before they had certain wings certain parking structures and starting pay jobs so I when I was growing up like before I was even in high school. I was looking back on the city like I felt old because of the work in that but I have worked on webster at paramount next door. They were doing family ties first job. I did Sitcom wise was the Jeffersons. We worked next door to different strokes. Gary Coleman showed me the ropes as a seven-year-old I think I was where when the Universal Studios tour came through told me how to waive. Tell me how to smile. You know so we say I think he was like thirty. I'm planning I'm I'm not executive. Cody were right now. He was young too. But but I'm sure not only were you on television. You are on television with superstars veterans of the acting game. What is some of the best advice that you were given a staffer Matt Wave? Gary Coleman Another lesson I can remember Was My there was an episode of actually Amen. Actually we had hammer on episode while he was MC Hammer at that point and he was high on the Totem Pole. He was on and I was trying to be an aspiring rapper. Drop out of high school and he came on the show. And was you know trying to keep me in my place and never have me chase the education that and the day after we filmed that episode Great crowd entertainment tonight. Everyone was a lot of coverage and I had to come back for school and my dad was walked with me. We were the only ones on said they give everybody else the day off so I was walking through and it was a football stadium being empty after the Super Bowl Game. I sort of felt like to me and he noticed me and he was like what what's wrong and I was like. I'm I'm down a little bit and he was like well. You know you enjoyed this piece of it to you. Can't live your life on the ceiling and I was like Dang you always stuff to say. You can't live life on the stock. Yeah I love that so much because so much of the craft of acting. I'm learning someone who was not an actor and all so much of the craft of acting is not just like learning how to memorize your lines step into the feelings of another character but you have to like make sure that you are like stand present and enjoying them outside of the actual role a thing that I'm really excited to talk to You. About how that sort of being transfers into your voice acting which. I did not know you did until maybe really recently. But you've done a lot a lot of ways acting. How did you get into that? Well I gotTa bring my dad up again he He's always do a bunch of characters and crazy stuff I would go back and forth with him and he talked to an agent that I had at the time about putting together a tape for me and I was like nine and she was like well you know. They don't really use a lot of kids in the industry. They use adults for kids so they don't have to do schooling and all that and he was like well. You know I'm a put together tape anywh sent it over to hanna-barbera and I became the first Black Flintstone on the Flintstone kids..

"Okay let's take it back for a second. I mean I know that this whole show was basically about taking him back but I mean you you know and I'm trying to do here right. Does this this rack with me? Does Lemme lamb so is the nineties because Duh of course is the nineties and watching TV. You know one of those. Tv's would finish panels. Individuals played at the bottom. One of those. And you're watching the Sitcom and like all the Best Sitcoms is filmed in front of a live studio. Audience is added that museum. And so you're watching the show right in the act of doing that thing. And the jokes landon. Everybody's having a good old time and then another character comes on the set in nineties times. This person is fine. Okay and you know that this person is fine because as soon as they step into a scene. We hear this noise from the studio audience. Make this time for yourself right because this person is that fine now. Who is it that you see? Who's on your screen? Who just made your day a little bit brighter. Just listen to it again now for me as the every black girls nineties dream boat of a man bumper Robinson. Bobo Ravenhill make an all the girls swoon. Since his days as the sweet Jack Doherty and on a different world and as the Annoy Mel Boy Ivan Living Living single which is my personal favorite rollers as a woman of a certain age. Okay but bumper. Robinson is not just a pretty face. He's a pretty voice to whether you not not. He's been the voice of tons of animations from the beginning of his career in cartoons video games and movies. This man stays booked and busy as you say so get ready. You might find yourself a little jealous but I think that I did all of our younger selves from the nineties. Proud listen to my conversation. What bumper we've thought about where he got his name his time on set at a different world and he gives me some voice acting tips for my inevitable voice acting career. Now you know who to blame. It's him and I might have told him that he was my favorite night's game that's boyfriend and he didn't even know it happened..

"It was like I was cold coating my so everyone everyone is doing a little bit of. ASM are on the show. I think that's yours. That's my favorite one you to Jessica all the time in the studio and recorded not up Queens. I just play. That's my favorite. And she would hate it so much. I think the problem is I hate how much I like it. Yeah I think it's more that you know what I mean. That one is oddly. Sexual all right. I didn't feel about what I What else would that sound like old man eating soup? Oh you guys are terrorizing rising me. It's enough as I like that one. Do you watch them. No I know I know they exist. I appreciate the culture. It's a big thing that ESU thing. I'm trying to get one. I like the The scratching. I just like it when people listener people whispering one girl I was watching and I found myself falling in love with her. And I don't know why whisperings the worst thing you can do for your vocal chords right. I think that's true. I actually think that's I think whatever I do in my stand up it's the worst thing this pills for now. Taunting her something. I'M GONNA call myself out on. Is That I. Why sometimes try to boss people around by pretending to be helpful? I do that too. I'm bossy it's fine but it's yeah I bet you as someone who's now in charge of the people do you find yourself worrying about other people's feelings and how do you tell me how to do something with grace and elegance. Yeah submarine is I I. I Love self-help. Some Rina's book called radical candor Yeah it's a great book is all about like being a Boston workplace and like you know just getting your mind right and making sure career employees as well and like realizing you know like the first thing I realized once I started becoming a boss. Was that like you actually work for your employees just as much as they work for. You WanNa make sure they feel appreciated and your nutri mirror drains right and you know. I think a lot of times when people don't tell Benton up to you. I think a lot of times people get into our positions. They sort of lie to themselves. That Lake people are dying to work for you. But it's like you're paying. That's why they're here. That's correct like a man is a great assistant she's here hi Don I e Oh. You're not a volunteer uh-huh oh you don't just want to be here because you care it's not just your dream to watch her dreams. Come live audio. Well you know I asked her like order. My Sweet Green Salad doesn't want to do that right. She doesn't want to order my guacamole. Greens are paying her. That's right and so I think you have to understand that lake. You're not this. Treat to be around twenty four seven. Yes you know what I mean just realize you are also a person with your own flaws in your own ups and down I oh I think it allows you to sort of put yourself in the in. I used to be an assistant so I think you can put yourself in a position of your assistant or whoever your employees Louis is what their position is. I understand what they're going through in order to work for you. I'm glad you're saying this as I'm thinking about it as sometimes when I've ask for something like that and have felt weird like God. I feel like I'm Boston. Someone around I'm her and then I'll go like well. I had to do this or when someone you know when I'm to direct with someone or not communicate of enough with someone or not clear enough with someone I'm like well. No one was clear with me. I had to figure it out and I'd eat shit and then I'm like that doesn't mean should perpetuate this cycle. I came up under under. The idea is to be better than the bosses. I've had. Yes because sometimes rationalized my own behavior. Rubbing Liguori was fucking Shitty to me and I had to take a bunch of abuse. But that's not. Yeah yeah of course correct. Yeah of course and it's also like Like anything the more. It's actually I find because I remember this. Journalists was like following me around for something secure so nice to everybody and I was. I thought it was so sort of weird comment. What's going on out there? Number one number two actually being nice to people whatever that means is kind of selfish. It's like well everyone's better at their job. Yeah if they feel respected. It's also I don't like go to work every day and go. I'm going to respect everyone because that's completely against my instinct. You know what I mean but but it's also like you get better work out of everyone. Yeah they mean to people. You're actually just hurting yourself. Hey now and I think people don't understand like what I think. A LOT OF PEOPLE WANNA only be a boss. I get to tell everyone what to do. It's not what a bosses. Yeah you like. It's truly worrying about overhead. It's truly being leg checking in with each employee making sure they're feeling like you. I do feel like you're kind of like a parent in some way off and like these are like your kids and you're really just like I wanna make sure everyone's happy and good good and feeling good all the time and it's really. It's it's a little more exhausted. I thought I was going to be but I do enjoy it. I mean I think that a lot of people think if you know Being a boss means I have to boss everybody around telling them what to do all the time. If you get off on that I can't help you know you know gets your journey And but I think the the best bosses hire the best people and then leave them alone and let them do the. If you're telling someone what to do constantly all the time you've made a hiring mistake. Yes it's a it's a mismatch. Yeah and it's also so many people have so many different skills and talents off. You just get the fuck out of the way that's right and let them flourish and shine. They'll surprise is you in themselves and they can learn skills about themselves. That's right they can really do all these amazing things so it was like. Don't hinder someone so you can be like. My name is on the check check. No one cares. I also think it's really important that I thought being the boss Matt I have to know all the answers all the time. It's great it's actually the opposite. Yeah what do you you think. Yeah what do you think should happen. And then you hear else's idea and then your job is ultimately you have to make the decision. Yeah in be decisive but I realize like sometimes the boss is the person in the room talking the least yes took me so long to understand that really. Yeah yes okay. Yes took a couple of weeks. What was the whole up on this because those are secure that I think for the first time I had okay? This is the thing that I made so I have to know everything and have answers for everybody. and IT'S I. I thought my job was to do everyone's job and they're all doing here. So when you have Whitney Were you Kinda like that on the show where you were just kind of like well. It's also like a lot of pressure when it's like your show is named after you your lane and I gotta be involved. You know I was also so young and I was so scared and I was so dismore fiqh about what healthy working and looked blake. Because I didn't have mentors didn't have women to look up to. I never had sort of seen powerful women running things and my main priority back then was making sure everyone liked me and what I now know is if you want like you get them out at a reasonable time. Not You know what I mean so just be direct with them. I think most adult people don't want to beat around the bush in terms of feedback. They'd rather you just tell them what to do. So then they go home sooner. You Know I. I was so worried about hurting people's feelings for so long. No I mean I like this but I feel like you know what I like it. Yeah I do like which is like totally irresponsible. Communication totally fantasizing people that just kind of want to be told the truth booth assuming everyone was sensitive as I was or something you know and I think I also again. I thought that I had to make every decision. I didn't understand I and like oh I can delegate I can say well what do you think yeah and I can empower other people. I thought I was making their lives easier by doing their jobs and I wasn't. They were kind of just like confused and like what am I doing here. Yeah but it is. It is tough being a dream killer if you'd be like Oh no you can't do this or idea or a working on my talk show and there's something wrong I was. I was like Oh actually. Don't like any of these questions and I said until the show right incident to the right as I don't like these questions Let's do some more. And if folk kinda mean to be like. Oh I'm not loving these questions but it's also like we're only going to get to the good stuff you know. No one's kneeling it. All the time I it's you we we really joke yet to revise a bunch. So it's it's fine it's hand everyone's fine yep everyone can is an adult you know but I also think I put a lot of pressure on myself because in the beginning of any business any endeavor that you're doing any website you're starting you have to really make the target clear to be so if you are saying no. To people about things creatively creatively in the beginning. You have to tell them why you're saying no you know so that they can get better at their job. I think that's the biggest mistake I see a lot of people making by experience someone just like no and then you're like I don't know I don't even know what I'm pitching. I don't even know what the target is. You know you say in Benton I've probably been overly Liquicia in this area where I'm like. No and here's why do you think your boss and I feel like I was sometimes like overly and I never wanNA feel like. I'm micromanaging but to say like these questions on work for me because I just want to get to the root of it so then they go. Oh Great. That won't ever happen again. Most people just want to be good at their jobs. Most people feel pride you know and I think for me. I'm always trying to figure out. How can I have someone in this environment? Feel pride died when they leave every day. You know. Yeah that's great. That's I mean thinking that weighs like are you know you're good boss Joe. That was my idea. Whatever you know? And and And I I I think it's just the way you say it. I think it's just sort of like you can say no in a way that's graceful. I've started And I'm always always about sharing like tools that help how people just like you know I've been thinking about it in this doesn't work for me and here's why saying I've been thinking about. It just helps people know that you've been thoughtful about something and then you're not just like Willy Nilly like in the moment like nagging something. Yeah Yeah I've been thinking about you know have given us some top. That's how manipulative. No this House that's good. Yeah that's solid but just and here's why I think.

Just I made the mistake of saying out loud but I feel like I sound bitchy and so now they are. They'll be like they'll be like. Oh you're doing that thing where US three you say. Thank you like a bitch and I'm like that's what it's hard to think. Thank you without being seeming seeming patronizing Django. What do you might need a new word because I say thank you so much? That's what I do me too. I just now have to go. I really appreciate it. Thank you is over. Thank his out. You can't say it going. No don't do that. I think I love your show that looks like a tech. We already have too many going against us at this point but I do think that thank you has now oh hit peak sardonic you know. It's like the words genius. Have Larry those who lost their value. I think they should. We say I appreciate that. I much appreciate you coming. How would you say that I appreciate that when someone says like great saddle? I appreciate that. That doesn't feel genuine to me. Well now saying it to try to prove how genuine it is now. It's coming off shitty good set. Read think about this. You don't say bad. Thank you thank you so much. It's hard thank you. It's hard to be grateful without some of the thinking you're an asshole it's all it's so weird. Think you if you say things as he thinks thanks thank you thanks. I said something the other your day. They came off so shitty. I was in this really big meeting and this girl had gotten a promotion and I didn't WanNa say good for you because I didn't want to sound patronizing Bravo. It sounded really weird. Top of the morning. She's literally hung no great Gert. Good job like it's sounds so I she looked at me. Weird you magic. I got my dream job. Bravo that's set. It was like Bravo. Great like what like. It was like a member and dirty dancing that I carry watermelon moment. I was just like back. Bravo says that like haunted me for the rest of the day. But then good for you. That sounds patronizing like never would've done it. That's what good for. You means shocked. Yeah yeah well you did it that I'm proud of. You never thought you could accomplish this. That's impressive I say that's really impressive. That's impressive happy. Happy for you. I didn't know her. I don't know her. I wish we could send it to people. I love yourself happy for you say nothing. Yeah that's awesome awesome just to cool. That's super cool. Intense eye. Contact nodding. Don't do that now. Wow when someone gets a promotion when you say I got got promoted. I knew it I knew you would. That's such a good one. That's when you tell people it's no surprise there. Yeah also it takes the holy coming to hear about it out of it you want to look good and they want to be a guy went to the meeting and I went to the store. Okay Hey you got it got it. That's funny I knew you would say no more. That's like say no more. That's a great way to stop someone from telling you the story but also being happy for them right. This is going on too long. I'm not editing this part we we need to talk about the fact that someone left comment telling us that Marilyn Monroe's ex-husband is buried face down on top of her grave. I started a fire with Marilyn Monroe Brandt so hugh hefner's buried next Monroe and now someone has written in and said that Cajon Dimaggio is buried above her so she's getting in like a the other ex husband Goblin throttle puncher. That's where it is. Oh Oh this makes so szucs Greenland pitcher. Oh that's the one she looks great in There's little that's so interesting because I got a ton of tweets today saying that name Richard Shirt Punch. Her and I didn't understand what was happening. I thought it was a new person like entered the Democratic race is leave me out of this show. I had no idea who was that makes them so. He brought the grave plot above her even though she married a bunch of men after him. What a desperate dead guy who buried face down on her his skull? Oh you mean. He's buried if laying on her looking at her wide. You guys dead guys are so gross so Marilyn L.. Monroe has her first husband on top of her facing down and Hugh hefner buried next to her. This woman is just being gang. Banged by these old. Ask goblins uh-huh every night. I'm telling you gotta dig her up. I stand by this. This is my room. This is my mission in life is to dig up. We've been talking about everything that's trash trash. Someone just cut us off y'all cart so I feel like we're very close strangers like I think there's this thing though when there's someone that you've known for a while or you watch their work you've really close to them and we met in kind of a weird way like you posted something on instagram. Yeah you know. We're always at your test that just being like this. Is the mother the funding we get to it though. I think that to me is the most valuable kind of friendship where you cannot connect with somebody for two months but when you see each other you go hard there yeah formalities. I mean. I mean Justin beaver bold where rails I swear to God will send me Spanos. It'd be like where's this shirt. Is it the dry cleaner or not. If I can't find one of my rails I have a Pan Am so you have four more so I have I buy duplicates. 'cause I'm so afraid I something fits and works. I buy two or three of them and then I can't find I panic screaming. We're by the way doesn't work for me. Anyway is not my decision anymore. So it's just like this weird friendship on my shirt.
