NTSB Releases Preliminary Report on Fatal Tesla Crash

"Everybody around here and we've got quite a lot to go through. We've got an update from the national transportation safety board on the highly publicized accident involving accessible vehicle in texas a couple of weeks ago. We've got news on tesla. Energy manufacturing batteries and of course elon musk's appearance on saturday. Night live over the weekend rough start to the week. Four tesla's stock finishing down nearly six and a half percent today to six hundred and twenty nine dollars four cents that compared to the nasdaq down over two and a half percent the worst day in a couple of months for the nasdaq and we did see sector rotation today the dow was only down a tenth of a percent as the dow is generally made up of lower growth more value oriented stocks. So i know the tesla down. Six percent can sometimes feel a little bit rough especially for new investors but for context arc's innovation. Etf so a group of a lot of different stocks was down by itself five percent today. Obviously tesla driving a portion of that but certainly the movement was not just isolated to tesla. Today before we get into the news here you may have heard already but my voices still recovering a little bit. So i'll do my best to get through this but apologies for any disruption from that. I i up today. We are revisiting the unfortunate accident back in mid april of decimal ice vehicle in texas. As i'm sure most of you remember this received a ton of media attention because at the time law enforcement said that they were one hundred percent certain that no one was in the driver's seat of the model s. at the time of impact. You may remember that. At the time we went through a number of different reasons why the seemed implausible. And i felt like law enforcement was speaking far too soon saying they were one hundred percent certain of something without even having done a full investigation yet so too soon too much conviction and this led to massive media coverage of this accident. A lot of scrutiny. For tesla you've got consumer reports coming out and running some test about how they can defeat these safety features built in to help prevent people from using autopilot beyond its intended use case just keeps getting piled on all because of this one quote from law enforcement so here we've got the preliminary report from the ntsb quote. The crash trip originated at the owners residents near the end of a cul de sac footage from the owners. Home security camera shows the owner entering the car's driver seat and the passenger entering the front passenger seat. The car leaves and travels about five hundred and fifty feet before departing the road on a curve driving over the curb and hitting drainage culvert a raised manhole and a tree

"That black podcast. i'm your host as bully joined. By my co host zimmer zim. Say hello world. How's everybody doing tonight. We got a special guest. We got the borough a cow. Die himself with the sacramento kings. Live in effect. How you doing doing good. Thanks for having me appreciate you being here man. I know we talked to you off the air just a second ago. You just finished practice. how do you feel. Do you feel like you wanna just fall out on the ground and tell people what is that like right after the nba. Breakfast during cogan is a little different than last year. Was my second earmark rookie year. You know we get after it and I think a lotta people have this concession. That like we don't really practice and stuff like that we do. This eighty two game season going to be as long as as the college practice where i can get up to three hours. No problem During cova man like we have so few practices and we got so many games back to back this year and after banks automatic off day. So you know the the the practice the lighter they're trying to you know make sure guys say healthy and whatnot that have been an issue but It's been it's been a blast man definitely so. Obviously you're huge. Dr bengals fan. But you're a hooper to did you ever think about like a potential football career. Obviously you've made an nba urine. Elif basketball player. Did you ever think about football. Yeah that was my first love. i The only reason i good football. 'cause i got an eighth grade. I got a division to offer for basketball. And i wasn't growing like everybody else for football so i was like maybe i should just see how how far they go. I had a back injury. Infocomm let me just stick to basketball But like a growing up. My dad was my coach from first grade to sixth grade. We won the super bowl as the cincinnati bengals in india which was awesome we So that was my first love. We weren't like we were in a magazine because we were in fourth grade running the spread offense like the bows has always been pretty much number one number one sport in my life. announce now. It's tied for first with with basketball. So i gotta i gotta ask what's positions you plug when you play football quarterback Okay which is yes. Oh edition commit and then when On defense because i was always tall lanky so i played defensive end at anytime. The other team got shotgun. I would just go back and play safety. Because i then you know they're throwing it or not. Doing any like are like that so did do you do secretly watch like football game. Like how close are you watching football now. Like does it. Like i always watch people like rappers and stuff wanna be basketball players. Is it the same way like professional basketball ablaze. Do you secretly just be damn. I could go out there and go do it still yes. I don't think i i'm pretty realistic. I'm not going to be like yeah. I'd run over. Ray lewis or anything like that but like i i was really feel like i can play a little bit of wide receiver meet. It's funny because Before every practice. I mean like three teammates. We make sure we have a football. We just routes against each other like they wanna win so points. It's not just in. Jane robert woodard. He's a. he's a rookie fox. Always he talks like he's you know because these fascists help but he's like it'd be a great writers here but then he never does it so but after it's one i guess piggybacking off of that to tell us about you telling me just now shot outside your father who knew who i was which i thought was crazy to me as word which i think nobody knows me at all but Just too early on like what. When did you become like Bengals fan i know most of it may be was on the strength of your father. Were there any influences like early on. She just really remember. Yeah so. I really didn't have a choice for being completely honest like warren. That's how my little brother was born. My dad pulled my step on side Right before the baby shower and he's talking about some serious and she's like oh crap. I really to talk about like baby shower. You know six months praying whatever and he was like what from indianapolis. But i don't wanna see anybody bringing in some colts onesies pacify or anything like that. He's bengals is eighteen and he can decide and she is like you like you stages jami ties it and shit so But yeah i. I mean so i have a choice but once i like was boss. The woollen like actually could understand and you know growing up. Obviously it's really hard to route again so just think. Oh and he's on your team and like he has one of the greatest influences. Nfl history so like tax It was real easy to get behind. And then we have palmer who's been zodda. Peter work at a waffle house like dislike answer. Big time work Fans like me as we very rarely meet like we people all the time about award and it'd be light weigh in on this show. We sell them so much love when they're like i'm dying for the day. Were fan like in our zaman in college late pita work was like thank god like yeah he might. Some people feel. He didn't live up to the high. What's the us it was like. My very first jersey was like pita jersey in. It is crazy because i was telling seminars. Set a story back in twenty seven saint. we'll pick ross. I was living in tallahassee florida. So pita big there at fsu. So i walk in with my ceo. Bengals jersey onto this draft party to my friend. Advice me too. I see pedo at the bar. So you know immediately. I make a beeline over to feed one of the opus draft moments. Ever had because usually my home watching it by myself or something like that but to be able to watch a pedo in for him to show us love because we were bengals fans in the hat connection because nobody there was bengals fans because we are in florida right. But the to do's meeting pedo was this adult moment for short then It's it's funny on your first jersey so my first two jerseys. I got at the same time by presence from my dad it was carson palmer and l. thurman ooh i still gotta hold out there. I know at the time thurman would that's no more random than me than like somebody like one of my first jerseys that i could really remember. It's like mala luga and at the time. It doesn't seem like that much now. I add the time now. Mala luga was like you know a big draft. Do me one of those at the but dermot just means that you were really in the trenches bro. That means that you were really in who they nation. Because it's still people to this day that are like why are we audio thurman go there still still talk about four tenths. It was for sure. I mean like Like so being from indianapolis colts fan and they're winning a super bowl. They got peyton manning man it was. It's so restraining because every year on the by them me and my dad were like this. is it. This is our year year in every year. Discount like don't quite expectation that is so tough for elementary school. The middle school kid like around a winning like surrounded by winning city. Like who would you great about you being here right now. Is that and i know you probably going to think. I'm like just just jews jiggling and nuts or whatever but listen. You've ring a champion. A being a bengals fan means a lot a lot of people. I don't think you realize like if you guys have a follow the story and just watch the you know. There's championship run with the virginia cavaliers. Please make sure you guys go. Check it out because even if you're not a fan of like college basketball like how guy was a big big factor in that rank. Can you tell everybody like what is it like like. There's a bengals fan starving for championship. Like what is it like. Like like the ryan going through it like when you feel like you're really close and then these moments that we get as bengals fans they were like oh and then to finally get over that hump like just screw some of that stuff. Yeah so obviously we. We had the huge upset the year before. So there's all this My revenge redemption. Whatever you wanna call it like have this departmental the whole the whole following season..

100-Year-Old Man Killed In Violent Encino Attacks In Los Angeles, Suspect Arrested

"I mean you talk about a crime wave. And what the hell's going on in the city of la. Somebody killed a hundred year. Old man in encino supposedly happened before noon yesterday. Cops were called assault with a deadly weapon. An axe are you kidding me. When officers got there they found a man who had suffered minor injuries but he directed them to a suspect. They've arrested forty seven year old. Adam dimmer men. We're going to find out this is the vagrant. What are we going to find out next one of the mental issues here. He's walking around attacking people with an ax There was an officer that basically told me to stay indoors as a guy with a machete. Who's walking around here. Apparently dimmer man had a dog with him. See deborah not. People with dogs aren't necessarily always good people i know. They got an action a knife at the scene and sometime later they responded to a home in encino on alonzo place where a hundred year old man was found dead. Numerous contusions and lacerations they believe dimmer man killed him. Can you imagine living to one hundred and going that way to get murder. They've identified the poor guy as yussef mahboob ian. He'd been living on the secluded hilltop cul de sac for more than thirty years. His wife is the one who found so. I guess he broke into the house. Or i don't know we don't know a lot of the circumstances here yet. But you got a guy running around the valley with a machete attacking people and he kills a one hundred year old man. Wow

MLB Spring training: Which Players Have A Shot At Making the Giants' Team?

"One guy that stands out to me and we'll get to Luciano. We've talked so much about him and how exciting and tantalizing he is. But we're talking bullpen, arms and guys who have a legitimate shot to make this team and one of the parting gifts from Bobby Evans. It seems like one of these guys. Camilo dove all he's been in the system time now did we saw him against the Dodgers the other night? He is exciting, and I think is you put out carry the best hair in the Giants bullpen right now. Oh, yeah, he he does have the best care because last year they had a guy Rodolfo Martinez, who was a Johnny Cueto look like just with better dreadlocks than Johnny Cueto. If you can imagine that this year, they've got Camilo Jovel who does not have better dreadlocks. But he has died his dreadlocks, so they're like orangish Red, And I'm hoping that by the regular season he'll have in his Giants Orange, because could you imagine that coming out of the bullpen? Got weapon 97 98 with a cutter and the breaking off a nasty slider. And then all of a sudden he's got the closer like hair, Camilo Devil and you make a great point. He is a parting gift from Bobby Evans. And this is something that we should talk about. I should write about eventually is all the parting gifts from Bobby Evans because you're starting to see the fruit of the Giants International. Sign me focus coming through the system. Marco Luciano, a Bobby Evans guy, Alexander Canario, Bobby Evans Guy. Curving Castro, a Bobby Evans guy. And so the Giants are starting to see this focus that we saw in the like post 2014 2015 World Series era where they went down to the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and other Latin American countries and sign some dudes and you're seeing that those dudes who they got when they were 16 17 years old are coming through this farm system and are going to be ready to contribute and so The village of all immediately popped out the other night against the Dodgers Cubs, But there's several other players, several other young players. Several other young pitchers who have really stood out so far. Well in another one is from the left side. Jake long this kid is from Sacramento. I think you would the Sac state or he's like up from the Northern California area. So he said. It was so funny. The quote I saw from him the other day was Buster Posey called him over to throw a bullpen and he called him by his name, and he was all stoked that Buster newest name because he's of that age group beauties like you and I. If Buster called us over, he'd be like, dude, that's Buster Posey calling my name so Him from the left side. You know, I hate to do the com thing, but I'm getting I'm getting Billy Wagner Vibes. Dude, What do you think? Billy Wagner vibes? That's that's fascinating. And so the reason I say that is because the jobs are actually building this guy up is a starter there. They're thinking of him a 97 from the left side, a guy with a hammer curveball and a good change up there looking at him as someone who could actually be in the rotation. And so when can't first started? Gabe Kapler traffic trump Buster Posey. They all said. Hey, pay some attention to this Sam Long guy. He's got something to him. And we're thinking, okay, This is just, you know, a guy who threw two good bullpens. You never know that happens every spring. He's probably a double A or maybe a triple a arm who could help them out of the bullpen Eventually. Then all of a sudden, he appears in the Cactus League opener against the Angels, and he has got major league stuff. No question in my mind after seeing him. Three pitches in I turn to Mark Sanchez in the press box. I go. I have seen enough. This guy can help the Giants right now, and I think that in keeping him as a starter and sending him down to triple A or double a to open up the season, you're potentially talking about someone copes who could somehow morphed his way into the Giants top pitching prospect and maybe beat Sean Jelly or Tristen back or some things other guys. The chance to excited about to the major league level. And so it's really fasting to see Sam Long come out of the bullpen because you're juxtaposing that with guys like Camilo, Javelin Caribbean Castro, who is another guy, Bobby Evan, signed who just has that hammer curve coming out of the bullpen 97. Very little mite early experience. But there are the pieces in place and you can correct me if I'm wrong. If you've seen anything differently, the first three or four days of spring training their pieces in place for the Giants to have one of the most exciting bullpens and Major league baseball and potentially one of the best is far as electricity goes like with stuff

"Salama's like like you very much. Thank you both for for for joining me today. so like i was. We just said we recorded this. Podcast like two three years ago and we had some technical issues so we lost the entirety of the recording. Unfortunately so we're back for round two trying to do this again So thank you again. I guess for agreement comeback. We've had a few of these kinds of who issues in a few weeks and it's frustrating. You know we we get by right. So i guess to kick off with. I think the for context. When i came across your personal story and your father story specifically I was quite alarmed. The fact that this was like going back a few years. But i was alarmed at the fact that i hadn't come across it sooner. It wasn't more prominent in the kind of mainstream And there wasn't talk of this reference of this as a particular case of anti muslim terrorism that had taken place on uk soil. And i think what's again quite alarming is that i only stumbled across it because i was kind of researching and i was trying to prove a point in an article or something that was putting together and i saw this and then i kind of went down the rabbit hole of finding out more and it was just astonishing that i there was no prominence to this so i guess i assumed that a lot of people. Listen this may not have come across yourself or your father story. So would you be able to very briefly. Kind of recap what happened. And how your family's life change in two thousand and thirteen yes of course On the twenty. Nine april twenty thirteen. That's is going to a eight years This year My father mohammed. Salim was eighty two years old at the time and he praised at the local moisture which is green mustard which is at the end of our street. And he's done that most of his life any praise at five times a day to day one so that dodge the mice jed back involve To read always press on this particular night He went to read his issue press and when he left the mosquera roundabout. Tim poston pm on this particular. Actually dad wasn't feeling great. Normally my uncle would does with him to the mosque and comes back and not nine. My uncle had some relatives so he basically said oh. I have to go home with you. Go don't worry i'll walk. You know because he's just not far as just at the end of our road and On this night my phone was followed home and know on the cc tv at one who lives on a street. Not many people will have double glazing. They can hear dot because he's not normally walking in the middle of the road because he's a quiet coup de sac area on these guys walking steak and he's normally hitting a code cannell something on the street and this particular night you can notice on the tv's walking quite fast. And then he crosses over the road to the school gate and he was basically funded home By a neo. Nazi called pablo up shane. Who'd only been in the country for five days and who got british sponsorship. He shook behind. Firstly of the british ambassador. In ukraine then go sponsorships small eve the predominantly muslim area and lived on the premises of dell com-. He followed my father home and this nine stabbed him to death from behind And then he went on a three month bombing campaign air and bombs side now bombed that saw three mosques in also over rampton tipton. This was one of the biggest oxyde terrorism on uk. So yet today your board explained now. Many people have heard the media have played down you know. At the time you know a doug's stanford they. We were prime suspects. That's how how disgusting. A was west midlands. Police say they treated our family. The came to our house and they told his record italian descent. A racist tunc. A we said you know. How can you tell us. It's not racist attack. You know tried to. They look to every other motivated by hate. Crime was never possible motive and you know we were suspects in this case as well and was quite disgusting because he had they not called pablo and we're ready to pin this on one of one of my family members. That's how reporting west midlands. Police were the way they treated us. than they were suspects united muslim household when doing source. You know when you'll pay no respects. Men and women are segregated. They had a male Family liaison officer. Googly is just standing there staring. All of us are looking at us. Like it was us and i do understand. The case is quite high number cases where certain cases off family related. When this particular circumstances they weren't and we made that playoffs and Yeah we had a very challenging time with west midlands police and yeah. We went back to taking complaints seriously. And prior to this six months earlier die My brothers jim who's got jim. Montcalm derided was receiving frightening letters from the house. If you don't close your terrorist jim. Because predominant muslims go there You just wait. What would happen and a lot of these letters. Were going out in the area. We showed those to the place. Could it be linked. But they didn't take any seriously and then six months later for the was murdered and this neo nazi was known neo nazi in ukraine. He's dip retort which add and again. He was making open pound bombs air in the forest. So no neo. Nazi get to british sponsorship counterterrorism. How degree allow these nazis into the country.

Stone tools suggest earlier human presence in North America

"Coming up I, though he's been looking into some stone tools, new muddling analyses suggest humans may have lived in the Americas thousands of years earlier. The many people bolts. Now the of when humans first arrived in the Americas is a hot debate for archaeologists. Well, it's actually a long debated topic as well. This is an issue that arose in the Americas in the eighteen seventies. This is David Meltzer an archeologist who investigates when humans arrived the Americas. Of the past hundred years, or so since archaeologists have gone back and forth on when this might have happened. More recently, thanks to additional archaeological, Ngoma evidence research, his off, starting to converge, go window from when humans first stepped foot on the America's. What we have coming out of archaeology is a number of sites that are sort of in the fifteen thousand years ago range. And so that gives us a minimum age. We know the people were here by that date the ancient. Is pointing to a split. Between Northeast Asian populations and those groups that would come into the Americas happening around Oh twenty, three twenty four thousand years ago, and that kind of gives us a maximum age so somewhere between that twenty, three, twenty four and fifteen is probably the window within which we got people leaving Northeast Asia crossing the Land Bridge and coming into the Americas within this window for many archaeologists. Archaeologists is most likely. The people entered the America's around sixteen thousand years ago. This is due to the prevailing well-established archaeological evidence, which is also backed up by climatic conditions before this time between sixteen thousand and twenty thousand years ago, it would have been difficult for humans to migrate across the Land Bridge from Asia Ju to the presence of giant bowls of ice in North America. This was a time period within the last ice age known as the last glacial maximum or L. GM. If you get to Alaska during the last glacial maximum your in a cola SAC, and so you've got basically two massive ice sheets better blocking your way out, but this week in nature there are two papers that pushed the date of human arrival back thousands of years before sixteen thousand years ago. One has examined the cave deep in the desert Mexico known as cheeky to the oldest dates. We have our somewhere around thirty thousand years ago. This is sipping our delion, the lead archaeologist examining the cave. Hundred years ago would push back human arrival to well before the last glacial maximum when blocked entry into North America. There were some clues that that cave have something. In those layers belonging to the GM that seemed to suggest humans and I was very skeptical, bought Chiquita Cave. If you go deeper and deeper into excavations without stopping when you hit. The Marker. Of the fourteen thousand orbiting thousand, you may get lucky. You may get into something that's been invisible for quite a while with evidence of human during the last glacial maximum, Ciprian was encouraged to look beyond the SPIRA and dig deeper to older sediments. By taking. SCIPION found an array of unusual stone tools that he thinks made by people that inhabited the cave. flaked stone tools made a very peculiar material, which is re crystallized green limestone. So they searched for this particular kinds of stone around the cave, and they consistently picked the Greens variety and used it to to make very good. Looking artifacts that are already shaped, so it's not the typical flint or obsidian. He would find many places during the Now this isn't the first evidence suggested that humans have been in the Americas this early. That oversights weather have been claims of human occupation born twenty thousand years ago, but these are being disputed by some archaeologists. Also there are comparatively few sites of this age in the US or Canada so far. If, we seem that people initially crossed into Alaska across the lumberjack known as Berangere, and then migrated south would expect to find more traces of them. Well. That's where the second paper in nature this week comes in is offered by one of the researchers who's been investigating Cheeky Wheaty Loretta Devia so we were looking at archaeological and colonel metric, so that's essentially radiocarbon dates, luminescence dates from forty two archaeological sides from north, America and Brinda by collecting and analyzing Archaeological Evidence News Associated Dates Loretta, and her co author were able to build a model of human dispersal as populations found out from Alaska across North America. Whilst? This model doesn't find new dates for out of fax. It uses known dice to suggest when people would have I reached the different sites across North America. We were able to see that. Humans were present in North America before during and after the. Maximum, but that human expansion didn't actually occur until later during a period of abrupt sort of global warming, this only did the populations were low during the last glacial maximum, and then rapidly expanded once things go warmer is also backed up by scipion archaeological evidence from the cave in Mexico as soon as you reach the layers in the deposits of the case that day to about. Eighteen, sixteen thousand you the number forty facts just. triplicated number scipion also things this could help explain what was so little evidence of humans during before the last glacial maximum. It's almost impossible to find them I. mean you have such a huge chunk of our planet with just a few footsteps on it? That's that's how I looked like I mean you can barely coli to. populated, continent, but do these papers roll back the daytime when humans were present in the Americas. Well. It may be too early to tell for David. Meltzer you heard from earlier. It wasn't involved in this research. When it comes to the cave, he thinks of a still questions be asked about the tools that were found based on radiocarbon dates that they have I think the radiocarbon dates look awfully solid. It appears as though this technology lasted for minimally according to the dates around sixteen thousand years with a stone tool tradition bat, long lasting one would expect it to have been far more widespread in the region instead of being localized to this this one cave David. Perhaps archaeologist just haven't found stone tools like this. Unless could account for why they don't appear to be widespread. He did have questions as well regarding wind don't to change over the sixteen thousand year period. They were found. The him is quite strange. CIPRIAN however argues the. Maybe that isn't so unusual. If you look at other places in the world during the Ice Age, the stone technologies did the remain the same for many thousands of years without significant changes. So that's what happens that she reach. It behaves more like stone tool industries in the old world where they remain unchanged for thousands of years for the second. Paper David Vote, but Laurynas analysis was sound. He did have some questions regarding some the sites that were included in the analysis. In some cases, these sites themselves, the data is highly ambiguous, so you've got a well dated site, but the artifacts or the indications of a human presence may just be shattered, bone or cut mark bone, and those of us that do field work that deal with this kind of thing know that there are a lot of natural processes that can mimic human actions on bone or stone, the debate surrounding when humans first came to the Americas is far from solved this newspapers at evidence to it been many ways. They raise a lot of questions as well. Perhaps though they will inspire archaeologist to dig deeper to find the first Americans at the moment subject to change if you look at the converging genomic and archaeological evidence, it looks as though people are coming in soon after the less maximum. So Sixteen fifteen and a half thousand years ago. Could they have been there earlier? Absolutely? But if you're going to make the argument, it's going to require you know well laid out case. That was David Meltzer. From Southern Methodist University in the US you also heard from Cipriani Audet Leeann from the University of Texas in Mexico and Lorena, Sarah Devia from the University of Oxford here in the UK and the University of New South, Wales in Australia, we'll put a link to the papers. Discussed in the show notes

C.S. Lewis, Essayist

"Cs Lewis was born in Belfast Ireland. In eighteen ninety eight he would die in nineteen sixty three and what a life he lived. He was known as Jack and far as we can tell that was because of one of his dogs names from his early childhood who was Jiaxi and CS. Lewis accepted that name and adopted that name for himself. He was an oxbridge scholar. Which meant that? He how to position at both Oxford University and Cambridge University. He's been hailed as a philosopher and apologist theologian of course he's probably best known for his NARNIA chronicles. His actual profession was as a professor a chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature. Well let's take a look at his life and let's bring one piece of that life to the surface and that is Lewis as essayist while he was baptized as a child into the Anglican Church as a teenager he drifted into agnostics Zim. And then at the Ripe Age fifteen. He declared himself to be an atheist as a teenager. He also served epic poetry. He was taken by norse mythology and all of the medieval literature. Cs Lewis goes off to France. He saw the horrors of World War. One being involved in trench warfare a shell exploded not too far from him taking the lives of two of his buddies and injuring him and then he was sent back to the UK to serve out the rest of the war on the home front went on to his life of scholarship and eventually he would be influenced by George MacDonald. Who would lead him from atheism to a generic theism in a belief in God in general and then through his friendship with Jr token and continued reading of McDonald and others. He was led from theism to Christianity. Tolkien would have much preferred that. Lewis had joined him in the Catholic Church but Louis went the way of anglicanism went back into his Anglican Church. Louis like to call this Christianity Mirror Christine Hannity and of course that's the title of one of his books. Well the thing I want to talk about Louis is his work as an essayist and one essay in particular comes up from time of nineteen forty one to nineteen forty-three once again. Europe is embroiled in a World War and World War Two and during this time. Cs Lewis is doing radio addresses during air raids over the BBC. So if you can put that setting in your mind these are some of the great essays that come from the pen of Louis in this context. Some of these. Sac PREACHED SERMONS IN CHURCHES. And some he prepared specifically for the radio in a number of them were published as books later the one in particular that I wanNA talk to you about is called the wait of glory. It's an essay and it's also a title of book of essays in it. Lewis says that almost all our modern philosophies have been devised to convince us that the good of man is to be found on this Earth at such a twentieth century things such a modern thing to neglect God and push him out of our lives to neglect the eternal and the transcendent to be fixated on the horizon of the material. Well Lewis says there is far more to ultimate reality than what we see and it is the weight of glory so he writes. It may be possible for each to think too much of his own personal glory hereafter. It is hardly possible for him to think too often or too deeply about that of his neighbor. The load or wait or burden of my neighbors glory should be laid on my back a load so heavy that only humility can carry it in. The back of the proud will be broken. It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible gods and Goddesses to remember that the dullest and most uninteresting person you can talk to May one day be a creature. Which if you saw it now. You'd be strongly tempted to worship or else a whore corruption such as you now meet if at all only in a nightmare and he'll go on to say there are no ordinary people because we all have this weight of glory.

We can do quite a look with these guys. It is a good opportunity for me just point out for those of Atta listeners. Who might not see Pelicans or Gannett saw of a diving. Birds Bubis All Day spacey's have normal sub Q. Tiniest Emphysema Saudis just being with being away when you first Lael Hens on a big Pelican You Rub hands over that Obviously sick because it's been brought to the it's it's been collected by member of the Public Toilet Aminu can be disconcerting to feel those birds and and since the extent to subcutaneous emphysema which is normal and protects them on their Dramatically powerful dogs into ocean provides a cushion And protect them from damage as they smash into the water to catch fish. But what we're talking about today is not that situation it's pathological subcutaneous emphysema that we often see parents. Okay so say a few is roughly in A. How often would obey that? You say the mark you know once a week once a month to Amman tenement. We would probably be seeing is estimated hail it probably something like a dozen once a month. Maybe once every couple of weeks that would be sort of the numbers A pre-t frequent cases. And they do stick at him on because they are so uh spectacular strike a bit of a chord with the clients who can unite with many of the diseases. That would scare. The clients weren't even realized they sick. But this is one way. It's obvious something is wrong. Yes okay so well. Let's jump into clinical examination of them so it sounds like it's pretty obvious with mice. If not all of them are do you see any way? There's only a slight a slightly puffy but they are not other usually very dramatic. Were the main ones that occur. The the the rupture of the so At the base of the neck nuys one's really. I usually quite obvious. They've got at least big. Puffy Nick and quite often that extends like all over the boat but there are a number of other locations Peri ocular Between the ribs underneath the Underneath the wings There's a couple of other locations where they will be relatively less. You know less dramatic Areas of subcutaneous Emphysema So but not the most common ones we say those Sevaka Savelli ruptures. They really a very apparent. And you you just you can say they look like it. You pretty much handled goods. You can feel they've got to join any bubble of air underneath. The only difficult thing about diagnosing them is that occasionally particularly very young birds recently fledged or even nestling. Birds will develop Aero Asia and so they can get quite a lot of air in the crop and get a heartburn inflated crop. I'm an can be a little bit difficult to distinguish between is the usual way that I find works. Well for me is a needle that you can reasonably confidently place across needle in the crop in. See it through the crop wall when there's When these Ariff Asia Those goods that have subcutaneous emphysema associated with asset groped You'll not be able to say that That s The crop needle poking out into the guess under the skin So does that that. When with the Era Feiger the crop Does that deflate till you have to actively flight that from the crow that will it? It generally doesn't deflate Ovitz quickly of its own accord because the birds particularly those young birds will sit with that s shaped neck and it provides a pretty good sale so once they've swallowed the airedale sit. They've quite a while. But obviously to once you stick the once you stick the crop meddle in you can ask sprite the air and it will go down okay. So what's The k? Points MAC had so we want to initially examined that burden. Diff'rent DIS DIS. Bits of editor in the bird. Don't we For night? What how many calls General Causes of spoken about the inside the subcutaneous emphysema as the site rupture in that Crop Arefi. Three months will cover mice. Today's problems will it's the SSI rupture leads to subcutaneous emphysema. The subcutaneous emphysema is that Clinical Sonya can see SF crop curious. The pathology that leads to it and there are a couple of Eight passage in CDs which laid to rupture of the An and the other one That you've got to distinguish it from is Crop crops full of AIRF- Asia And once you distinguished from though between those then you can start to think about trying to figure out why the the ASX has ruptured. If it's in the neck or around the eye or somewhere else on the body sometimes brandon. You never find the actual rent in the body wall that allows the A to get into the subcutaneous spice. I'm sometimes we've gone. Trauma will result in a not reaching the subcutaneous space Sometimes that April show it graphically in locations like behind. The kidney will In-between the muscles of the the the the pelvis so it's not always subcutaneous and And particularly with those traumatic cases it can be in some very strange locations case. Oh before we can trade here. We didn't not here. What particular cause or causes might be happening. So you've mentioned trauma. What are the other? What are the other causes of this condition or conditions? Will they really is just too and we've talked about trauma and that's a very common woman. It's a win it happens. It's it's good because it's very likely that we're going to be able to control things and get them settled down and it will he'll less Less more worrying are the ones that involve infections. And there is a little bit of a patent in these cases where buds on relatively Poor dot says old Dots that probably have problems with the amount of automatically that marginal vitamin concentration leads to Vitaminized say And that deficiency will late epithelial displeasure plot formation and those plots often a reason for obstruction of various openings to Air Saxon lead to almost like a vowel arrangement. Where the Essex will Be Open on inspiration and then close on expiration. And that happens a few times and then the able to separate the Taylor `second separate the muscle fibers that limited and the air to leak out into the subcutaneous space. So dot is a predisposing factor infections. The probably the most common thing we see other types of infections that damage walls And then laid to accumulations of Mucus which similar to to the blocks will obstruct the the Openings to those various acts on the lead to altered pressure her so you might have sort of mentioned it already but I can't remember with Quickly disease happened as a decline rang. Up inside my my job. Blown-up lockup alone or is it a slight prices. Iva SEVERAL HOURS. Ho Dies or old both a bit can be a whole range so we will regularly have birds that literally pretty normal and then a couple of hours light of the by look like the Michelin Man All other ones. We'll just have a relatively small amount of subcutaneous. Say the the people till Acerbic confused over. The fine may be sent us a picture and then two or three days later. It's blinding up to Be roughly the same size as the bird So it it the right. I think you know. I don't think there's published literature on this. So this is one of Mark's little theories. I think that the right is is determined by the severity of the pathology with the Second. The health of the bud so muscular birds. The muscles often provide the limit. The physical limit to an air sac on so if there's flabby old birds who aren't too much exercise and earn a poor diet. They much more likely to have those muscles separate the fibres separate and allow the leakage of a away healthier birds that may be a trained and do a free flight. Exercise as birds are less likely to To allow accumulation of mucus oil Plots Associate with epithelial despise urine. And so they seem to have less problem side. Today's I mean obviously the some of bird with infectious causes more prolonged infectious of severe doubt. Come in state but to offend number is coming apparently well yes and that's way the conflict between the sort of We might have to euthanize this bird. And actually What we're able to do is quite different. The bullets themselves often look. You know we'd and different and and strange but thou lofton behave relatively normally These they sometimes some paralysis associated with the separation of the skin from the underlying tissue so the goods may will scratch at the area but outside of that a lot of birds will just behave Relatively normally Sahay we determine which ones are critical and end up in euthanize them. Which ones are you can? Just take your time with well. The ones that That are critical of the ones that are in stages of dismay out whether I have difficulty breathing and so the usual things that we look for in Bud saw the degree of ventilator excursion. The noises within the aspects and lungs the lungs themselves will only get noisy when this significant expedite in them But the air sacs will give you that That friction rub once they are inflamed. And sometimes you can even get a kissing. Click as the surfaces of the day. Sex move against each other in external sounds like tile bobbing and open mouth. Both I chop the corner off. Or whatever depending on which country you get them done Tan in And you have a lovely little stamps at paypal randomly put on random pages or I think it's random is obviously some sort of our definitely is some sacred to Iraq in the place. I love to and I and I love visiting when you're obviously there. Because we were they together is famous mark now what it was like when you arrived at the in Italy and I my I arrived via was fired. Air and then It was my turn. The person in front of me had gone. You stand at the read law and whatever and the Knicks and all's whitening and the person before me had gone through and who was just fiddling and carrying on wasn't didn't even look at me in a whiting whiten and he just had me stood there for about five minutes then he looked up and so the guy may come hither won't maybe not come in head It was very silly. United looked up down to my passport and stamped it on a rampage and I was lucky enough. I didn't get body searched on that particular trip. Markham how did you find the customs in in Venice? I must have Just eat must have just got that officer on a particularly bad because they were pretty Pretty generous to me they They on then it would be it. Wouldn't be a pleasant job to To have to deal with all these people in a Russian in fun I think it was just add flatly and you just gave him your typical puppy dog. Look tonight let you start throwing your unbelievable. Yes believable so yes so they would guys so it nothing bad veterinary science say Mac but I'm going to jump into a news story because again this time. Have I review? And that's a good news story. My an eight is about the future of West. Virginia's rare flying Squirrel. And it's looking good and I like this because some fantastic camp habitat pitches him. I don't know whether you've looked this. But it's about the Virginia Northern Flying Squirrel which is also commonly. None of the West Virginia Northern Flying Squirrel was listed as endangered in nineteen eighty. Five and three restoration efforts the spacey's Abandoned at the Pie. I think According to the article it joined an exclusive group of success stories and pessimistic about Tom. Recovery programs would spacey's but this one has been good so it's been taken off the endangered list and not surprisingly Mac Soul Ju to saving the Habitat Habitat as always bang on a bet a lot tight way mark and it's the red spruce northern Hardwood Forest Which looks pretty amazing of never been Nabet It consists of lots of fair and Beech and spruce trays and Black Cherry. In hemlock and red maple according to the article. Jeez I make some good could make some good Mock Thinking About saw the Black Cherries pretty damn good to to work with have. Yeah might be interesting. Sorry we're GONNA travel. Let's run. Yes so the Squirrel was taken off the list in twos. Hasn't said they because I did a recovery program protected. The forest naira stole the forest and I managed to get that particular Hardwood Forest. Back to more than one hundred. Seventy three thousand Ikea's which is which is fantastic and the five years after the two thousand. Three proclamation was often dangerous list. More than seven thousand. Four hundred and fifty five acres of habitat has been created specifically The pain restored Senate's fantastic. So it's a good news report mark and the other great thing about that news story was some and it does. Show that these I what do they call him? The species the the the major spacey's pies attention to but they are other species that have benefited as well the Cheat Mountain Salamander. I'm his as long as those are conic. Species continue to Get people to pay attention to habitat this whole bunch of innocuous cryptic species that Benefit from from that as well and Bloody Hill fighters of the the forests. I like that. Just be nice to be soothing. a lovely spruce in snow on some of them. Ed I can't understand why anyone would want to chop them down and turn them into furniture. Yes well we show you a beautiful little side table. Next time you come over and I noticed it in that I I have well. There's a picture of truffles toolbox. I have a chocolate truffle. Industry that forest as well. Not that's my good news story. Mac What have you got well mine is a little bit of a warring not as warring as usual but. Tom You know how often talk about birds with one of my other. Favorite animals of the toddy guides him. The water bears the One of the most piglets. There's a bunch of common names for them But the chassis verging on microscopic usually Less than a millimeter long live in moist environments hints the water or Moss epic to use to describe them a maker. I didn't realize that current marine environments. So I thought they were predominantly freshwater and they have the reputation for being One of the living things that Ended up on the moon at some point And so there's been talk about their ability to survive extremes of of.

"Paul George will not play on Tuesday in the clippers game against the cavs and he might return Wednesday when they host the magic. He's been dealing with his hamstring issue. You don't expect him to be back to his best level but even just getting like competent backup center minutes out of him could be helpful and if you can be back around the same time that'd be helpful scale. He's going to miss at least four weeks to be reevaluated. Them with left knee articulate cartilage lesion admired. Sonia doesn't really no matter that much but he's been in and out of the lineup with a lower back issues didn't play in their three point. Victory over the Hornets. I can't even fight you on that In Sacramento Marvin even Bagley returned he. He played significant minutes in their close. Lost the Orlando Magic. We'll talk about the game a little bit but rashawn homes is dealing with a shoulder. Issue suffered in their game against hence the warriors and he's going to miss two to three weeks and they're still without Bohdan. Donna Vich who is dealing with a right ankle issue and we don't know a timeline yet. But it doesn't seem like it's GonNa be yeah he's practicing Yep. Washington forgets tweeted this out of John Wall playing a little four on four so good to see that he is these kind of making his way back there and if it were a different situation you would think that he probably could play this year. We're coming up on out the year anniversary of when he suffered that Achilles tear following the surgery that he had on his heel garrison matthews who had been a nice story at a twenty five point game and then all of a sudden sprained his ankle pretty badly. He's going to miss several weeks lot of ankle. sprains for the Komo faulkners been out with an ankle sprain as well and finally I neglected to mention this but I found out yesterday. That Georgia kneeing. Who's playing wally in the Utah Tire rotation a Utah team that has won? Fourteen fifteen His self bestowed nickname is the minivan which I thought was just absolutely excellent like I want even use minivan to describe kind of that player type of just you know slow. Not that cut can't really jump but yet does the job better than flash this year. SUV's might get better gas. Mileage has more room. You've got the sliding door to put to put the kids in. It's more practical. You you end up really needing it in the end not at the most athletic vehicle but I love. I think it's a perfect description and I he. Apparently I don't think he meant to give himself that nickname but he said in an interview last year that after a barely dunk that Donovan rituals of Ferrari and he's more of a minivan and apparently it stuck among his teammates saw The minivan it is For George Jiang but I think that's something that could be extended to all of those kind of a little less athletic guys who still bill managed to get the job done in the end all right. Let's get our job done here. What game you talk about? I L let's start with sixers Pacers. This was the one that I had circled. Beforehand forehand because Malcolm Brogdon made his return and it ended up being a kind of a weird game for a couple of different reasons primarily. Because the seventy sixers we did the NBA Geico for that game against the Celtics. Where will be didn't play? But they made every jump shot in the world and so they looked like world beaters well for most of the game other than Richardson at the very end. They couldn't hit a jump shot to save their lives. They were six of thirty three on three pointers and no six or made more than one which was pretty striking and some of that. I thought the Pacers did have some nice defensive this possession but some of it was just missing shots but for me. Interestingly even though it was in a losing effort my big takeaway other than Brogden looking better physically than I expected for guy coming off a back. Cashew was the first half. The Ben Simmons Plate was fast. Yeah and now. Part of that was pretty miserable. Defense by the Pacers but with Al Horford Out in the perimeter miles turner really was struggling to get over and help he had multiple plays where he just went right down the lane. For Pre much uncontested layup or DUNK I. I also thought that he did a really nice job. Actually making some moves off the dribble. The Pacers were kind of pressuring up on him a little bit and he was able to blow by some of these smaller defenders through a bunch of beautiful passes but the sixers couldn't hit a three to save their lives. They finished six out of thirty three from downtown in this game. His assist totals weren't necessarily that high but I just it was as dynamic as I seen him be with the ball in his hands at eight nine at the rim. He was able to attack going to his left. Hand for for some floaters at a nice finishes remember when he was rookie. Those part of the thought of like always not even left handed because he couldn't really go left and finish left and they actually had some nice intricate finishes is there so And then defensively. He made some unbelievable rotations. There's one play where myles Turner was trying to dump it into SA- Bonus on a high low simmons's guarding starting a shooter in the corner gets all the way over there to take away the high low then. Turner turns around in throats it to the shooter in the corner just materializes there and run them off the line news just really awesome work but unfortunately couldn't sustain it in the second half in part due to a little bit more cogent pays for sure and we also saw a lot out of the holiday brothers. Both came off the bench. Aaron holiday was an was an important part of the run that ended up giving the pacers the the lead in the win and I thought thought having you know Jeremy Lamb started but only twenty three minutes and I don't think he's that would to me. He wasn't like the huge cooperative one. Oh negative eleven in twenty three minutes but having another Baltimore on the four especially given Philadelphia size. I thought that was really useful to remember. That's part of the theory of this team is that they will have another ball or next. Tobacco broadens just that victory with depots not ready the So I thought that that worked out just in holiday. Four of six from three fourteen points in twenty minutes. I thought that he had some some nice moments and it also for the Pacers. It's A good win for them. It's a of course you knock off at capable team. Even if without Joel embiid an you know I think maybe bill and still trying to figure out this. Rotation we saw teaching McConnell play fourteen minutes minutes against his former team. And I think he he didn't move the needle that much for me. But I think I liked that Macmillan still trying to figure all this out yeah he had a nice run in their their comeback where he hit it impossible fade away on the baseline and then went and got a steel in transition and trip does us going in in transition. Shinbun tapped a a nice pass over to Justin holiday for a dunk. That got the crowd fired up It was funny to. He was miked up and he had one play. Hey where he just double dribble. Because he's dribbling. You kept saying sorry. I'm over drew. They had a clip of him saying five different people. Sorry dribbling over dribbling and I thought like okay. Maybe but it's kind of what he has to do because he can't do anything off the ball right. That's his game as he just kind of dribbles. Iran tries to find a pass tries to get the defense to commit maybe goes for amid ranger and I I thought it was funny. When he had a really nice stretch they had whole netwo- Netto and Norville pell trying to guard the pick and roll and I was like to get Josh? Richardson the four. They put him on holiday. I'm like they're not gonNA run. Pick and roll. How they're going to run it with McConnell because if you put Macau Office Paul His guy can just help so they probably to meet you to put Josh Richardson? On McConnell now again was a key stretch right at the start of the fourth as the Pacers one hundred nine hundred run and in the third and then actually taking e through eighty lead before it was really back and forth down the stretch and what has been a somewhat common reframe. We talked about this in yesterday's fifteen and sixty about Michael Porter. Jr. Mitzi Stibal has had a lot of good games this season and he he sees shown some impressive impressive moments but this especially there was one brutal stretch where this was not his best performance and so a lot of times we we like to focus on the positive because the positive is this is great and it's exciting for young players. Thighbone defensive chops are fascinating but he had some just mistakes on both ends of the ball in rapid succession. Yeah I thought he had had some moments early as one of the only guys who three ball look good. He added other like pretty difficult three that he hit whereas feet weren't even sat in the corner just jacked up a at looked really good but yeah I I mean this is really a low light real for him down the end where I he got beaten as an you. Think as as a guy who played zone at Washington. You'd be better here. The five second cat is about to run run out on a base on out of bounds with they played two three zone and miles..

Jr. Mitzi Stibal has had a lot of good games this season and he he sees shown some impressive impressive moments but this especially there was one brutal stretch where this was not his best performance and so a lot of times we we like to focus on the positive because the positive is this is great and it's exciting for young players..

"They've forced and that number is always gonNA come down because the only one other teams been over seventeen percent in the last five years those the grizzlies and fifteen sixteen so that was always going to come down and now without Out Carter to be the guy out on the floor trapping and that aggressive bulls pick and roll coverage lucrative slight downgrade in that scheme. It looks like so the Bulls ought we saw that in the game against the Celtics. And when when teams know what's coming and you don't have the personnel to stop him anyway then it it can look ugly really really quickly and and this is so weird because the bottom of the East is not strong though to stronger now with Kiro returning. Hopefully for a long time that the Bulls are fourteen and twenty seven. The Nets are eighteen and twenty. And I think with Carter Juniors injury. I you know they're not out out but I would be very surprised if they made a plan. Yeah I seriously was considering them for My competition with Hollinger of ruin teams out for the playoffs but when Detroit instead and in Detroit Luke Kennard is going to be out until probably the all star break. According to Doing Casey and in Cleveland Dylan Wind Ler is really seemed like it was trending in the wrong direction. We had some fears. Here's here when there's talk of a setback. He tried to play three on three again recently. Still experience soreness with that stress reaction in his lower leg and so so he now is GonNa Miss. The rest of the season can have surgery. According to Cleveland DOT COM so lost rookie year for him. I did one good piece of news. For Cleveland is dairy Garland. Playing a little bit better. I I thought he had some nice drives against the Lakers today. Where you you recall you would get in the lane and just be totally powerless? He's showing a little bit more burst getting getting by guys. Doing some of those Nash. One headed lay ups so he's played a little bit better of late. That's one bright note in Cleveland. So far what else we got here. Dallas and Denver or both miss continuing to miss significant big men KRISTAPS porzingis probably not gonNA play in the next two games. It seems like the right means doing better. But he's also oh sick and so he's he's almost definitely missing Tuesday's game against the warriors but also sounds like he's going to Miss Wednesday against the Kings Carlo about that tomorrow. Yeah maybe maybe he'll answer And Paul MILLSAP has missed the last three games with a bruised left knee though it is worth noting that they comfortably beat the clippers without millsap and in one of the more impressive wins so far for Golden State kyw Bowman now is back in the G. League for the foreseeable future. Having used up the rest of his service time. They won't likely be able to sign another player layer until March. That's the earliest. They could convert him with their present. Hard caps situation. Damian Lee is not going to play on Tuesday. He's used up all of his to a service time as well and supposedly something could happen as early as Wednesday there but he just missed a couple of games now. Here's the reason why Wednesday day program that is because we're going to see a series of moves. We already saw some of them with the next. We'll talk about a minute because that's the last thing you can sign two way players for this year. And so I think what the words are going to do. is they're going to to convert Damian Lee and then opened up to a spot and use that two ways. Oh the the idea being that they'll like why. Why wouldn't you just? I mean obviously there's reason under the Harkat too. I thought that's what it is about. But it's about that too but then but because then you can get extra days under you you get you get another to a guy who can be playing well. The sitting to before he can be converted unless they trade Berkshire. Oh Yeah but what I'm saying is like what difference does it make were. They opened up the two way spot today or Wednesday. Oh no the Oh today or Wednesday. No that's about the heart gap. It's just going to be on Wednesday as opposed to being later than Wednesday because of the J. Sponsor I see yeah. So that's Kinda if they wanted to get another to a guy that makes those so if we don't understand each other we should probably talk it out because we're we're the ones who are supposed to be the experts on the stuff so if we don't understand that our listeners probably on either Okay so now we'll see with Lee. Presumably they have something worked out but there are some variables. I mean they could who'd give him a four year contract they could also because they have the full mid-level exception if they could just move say Alec Burks Really Call Center. Stone opened up more room under the hard cap they they can even give him a larger starting salary than the minimum this year which could then enable him to have a larger salary in years going forward also that would build on top that I mean they can give him up to the four deal because they have that part of that mid level exception remaining so a and it seems like you'd have a little bit of leverage. He's played pretty. Well you don't WanNa and it just get locked into like the hinky special or something so I do think there's a matter of some negotiation probably. It's going to get worked out but I wouldn't just like take whatever offer. The warriors gave me the power who's agent. It wouldn't surprise me in the least negotiations already half because we've known the general contours of this for a long time. Yeah For also the Word is interesting. Amari spelman the starting at center Over Willie Cauley Stein But no sign at all of Kevon looney still I mean. It's been now a few weeks. Since they kind of shut him down again to try to get him back into shape may be if they move on. They've moved crests now so he might be able to get some more time at the center position where he's more comfortable but I still. I still have a lot of concerns about looney. And it's just been a weird situation for him. What else we got her? Something worth putting opinion. The Orlando Magic applied for disabled the player exceptions for both Jonathan Isaac and Alfred media that is not a definitive pronouncement that either or both of those players are out for the remainder of the season that he is what is basically required in order for. Let's after we know if those granted yet. I don't think we don't know yet and that would be a caliber if they do get granted and that means more the league things more likely not not that they will be out. That would be very disappointing. Considering Isaac has has shown growth this year Amino has been a headwind healthy had been a part of rotation. But it's the fact that the magic applied and applying. It doesn't rule anybody out for anything. You could just be doing that to get a little bit more flexibility and but it is. It is notable I would say to any sense that they did for the Lakers. Rob Pelinka has been extended. It is termed a multi year extension. And that is off of the five years that he had when he joined in twenty seventeen. So it's a minimal. He if you WANNA say they had two years left on that now and you're giving him a multi year extension so that means it's at least four more years uplink. Maybe even more than that. Did he deserve this. Med take a really good job of convincing. Lebron James to come to the play. CRT wanted to go. But yeah. I mean I would say he. It's this weird thing in terms appointed magic and now it just being point. They didn't obviously a much better job building around Lebron this year not even just getting Anthony Davis but also Danny Green worked out well and they. They may better moves was on the margins to me but they got leveraged a lot in the Anthony Davis stuff I mean. They gave up a whole lot. And it's true that the clippers later give a similar amount for Paul. George and Davis is a a better player than George and also younger and all that but I mean my instinct is is no And when you think about some of the general managers that are doing a good job Bob in a much harder circumstance I end the Lakers conceptually. They could hire anybody they wanted. I mean they have the money to have star power I. It's it's a very desirable job and I. I do not think Palinka is one of the five to ten best general managers and league so no. Yeah and I'd like to see what happened here at the pants off into a corner in terms of lack of flexibility with with some of these contracts that he signed this off season for guys can't be traded like Dj Avail and Rondo and Casey p where if you get a second year on those contracts acts or even a non guaranteed second year. You'd be able to move them or a partially guaranteed second year and they've been a lot better position eventually trae guys. So yeah you got. Lebron got got a DI. Well guess what. You're a lot better now. The Vogel Hiring. I think you know that was supposedly such a shit show but I think Vogel is doing really Nice Job. So it's hard to say that that went poorly and he who was drafted cousy and supposedly. He's loyal to Genius Unsure Jeanie Buss. This was an absolute no brainer to do this. Also promoted to. I think it was executive vice president but for me I especially considering. Just the overall Lakers culture and some of the negative stories out of there. It's not a no brainer. But the fact is they're doing well and it's hard to. I'm sure that if they win the championship this year he will and everyone in Laker land will be like see like no one ever should've criticize and that it doesn't work that way. It works like you had add the fact that to a bunch of number two picks on your roster and you have all your graphics going forward and then you got lottery look to get number four. Last year they probably don't get a D. if they they don't do that they don't get lucky there so and they are in L. A.. And Lebron Eighty really wanted to come there so they're working with a lot of advantages. It's an important context. also Lakers acres news supposedly. They're willing to trade anyone besides ad and Lebron Noted where exactly that came from. But it's surprising. I do think they really need. Danny Green is me unless there's like a true awesome difference maker that we don't see as being available right now. You certainly wouldn't want to move Danny Green for such player. I think he's a better than anyone. They might realistically realistically get. Maybe I'm just not seeing that is But he's also they're big matching salary. Region Rondo missed. Tonight's game against the cavs with a non displaced voeller older plate of ocean fracture of his finger on his right hand. Those of ocean fractures remember when the limit pulls away a little piece of the bone from there in Rondo just has so many hand and wrist injuries. So it's really odd but it doesn't seem to keep him out too long and it seems like more of a week or two type of thing and ad was questionable. It didn't end up playing. They didn't need them against the cavs as a huge blowout with that glued contusion but seems like he'll be back as soon as their next game. Indochino I wanna to tell you about. Because they revolutionized my menswear I had been buying suits even up to like a thousand dollars off the rack. And Yeah you know they Taylor at the department store really never got close to fit that I was really looking for about six. I've got big shoulders. Not really that big of a chess and sort of fit my shoulders. I had to get this enormous suit jacket. They would try to tailor down at never really worked so it was like a tent on me. Then you had the pants that they figured that anyone with a forty four or a forty six chess. I'd have a forty wastes for some reason. So those would get Taylor down as well and they've got a balloon out around my midsection really wasn't any good but Indochino the official outfitter of my wedding by the way made suits just for me and now they're also selling custom shirts coats and Ginos. You can get a full custom wardrobe and it's just not that expensive. They've showrooms across North America. or You could do it from home. They've showrooms across North America..

"Monday gamer episodes coming up. Talk about couple of fun finishes Orlando Sacramento. Indy and Philly. Talk a little bit about Again when it overtime the Pelicans Elkins and the Pistons. It'd be last week because there are a lot of people out in that game post. Start with some news here. We haven't started with news in a while and we're going to begin. Danny any is with the news but a week ago act. We haven't talked about yet that it sounds like of the three things that the NBA hoping implement is schedule which of the play in tournament mid Season Tournament and the receding at once you get to the conference finals to ensure a better finals matchup. I thought the last of those who is actually the biggest guests no brainer the most likely to get implemented looks like that's going to be debt. Yeah it's really disappointing to be immune. There was a time that I was an absolutist on some of the more radical reforms. Sounds like top sixteen in choosing your ponant and all that type of stuff and I can Putin wrote a good piece on it back when you're closer to when it was more more prevalent in the conversation and I think the argument that was there and that I now personally believe in is it's not a perfect solution but it checks a lot of the boxes in terms of for me. It makes the finals. I knows potentially more desirable. And that's the biggest spotlight that the League has is the NBA Finals. And so having the two best of those four teams I think is positive. End that the logistical problems. That make top sixteen especially difficult. Those don't apply once you get to the conference finals because there are no overlapping game so I think that it is. You know it's not. It's Paredo optimal to use ECON Tuesday concert where it doesn't really other than you could say the the team that would have otherwise benefited from the current structure in that given year further league. which is the way they should think about this? It's beneficial overall and yet that's not what's going to happen. Supposedly this cashed with concerns of. Oh they're going to have to fly too far. I think there's something like thirty percent of the series in the past would have been East Coast to west coast but that's the finals to will in. The Western Conference has a lot of long fights. It's just the eastern conference that doesn't mean you can have a New Orleans Portland series. We saw that in the first round. You could see that in a conference finally. Yeah so they could work in another couple of days or us there too just so you don't have a the quick turnaround of a one day flight cross country and then you gotta play the next day I mean. I think that I do agree. That would be a concern for me but it's also could be alleviate but it does seem like it's just oh you're just scared that you might be in the position of not making it to the finals even though you had the best record in the Eastern Conference because you might have to go up against the number two seed in the West that had a better record record now also worth noting that it's not necessarily the case that the team with the best record is actually the best playoff team and that's probably more true than it's ever been before so I dunno I is this. Is this the end of the world that this is going to be in their disappointed but not too disappointed. It's frustrating just because it seems so sensible and when sensible things can't get through it just makes it so much less likely that less sensible things will make you feel and I'm not a big fan of the NCAA tournament. I'm not a big Fan of the play in tournament for a couple of. It's just such a bummer. The finals like really sucks Ray. So I'm actually writing a piece I don't know if it's GONNA get published I'm running an add an advocacy piece for this proposal. Which looks like it's dying for the athletic and a a part of it which I'll lay out here is think about how fortunate the NBA has gotten that? Lebron James Spent all that time in eastern conference. Because if that hadn't been the case we would have been dealing with way worse. NBA Finals over the last eight years. Or so let's say and that paper over a lot of these other flaws and the league needs to you know you can't think that Lebron James especially because he's actually I'm not in the eastern conference anymore that it's going to work out the way that it has because there's no there's no reason that it would and it does seem like it's going to be closer to even this year. Looks like the best team in the East looks like that second tier teams you know hopefully can compete with some of the teams that in the second tier of the West. So it's not always going to be like that but I of the last probably twenty years since Jordan retired the one of the conference finals being the real finals. I mean that probably they happened in seven or eight years and the finals was really just a total anti-climax. I'd like to avoid that in two thousand eighteen. especially as just a total bummer What what else we got here? News wise well we have some returns. Returns are always fun. Kyrie irving came back on Sunday. The Nets beat Detroit. Young lists Atlanta Hawks. One Oh eight eighty six Kyrie ten of eleven from the field almost all from two and he was plus twenty two in that comfortable win and then he's GonNa be a lot of comfortable wins against the Hawks. That looks like it for a little bit here. Yeah that's very true and then in Toronto. Both Pascal Siaka in Norm Powell return. But they lost that game to this Antonio Spurs which was a big win we talked a a little bit about that on the fifteen and sixty but noting their returns is still Demar Derozan stunk. On Chris. Boucher will feature prominently in our next awards. Oh yes I will imagine Also Markelle Seoul was unable to play over the weekend but looks like he is relatively close. Recall the Fred Vanfleet out with a hamstring. While could be a little more time for him. It seems like ah back to the top of the alphabet here. trae young miss that game with the hamstring issues questionable for Tuesday. You'd have to imagine they would old out and Fernando although it's been away from the team after the death of his mother and Alex Len isn't going to play against the sun's at home on Tuesday with low back pain so they really again just to have not been able to get fully healthy and obviously they're not the strongest team even when they are for Boston. Daniel Thais missed the game against the Bulls with right knee. Soreness no word on how long that's going to take but ns cancer started a Boston. handled the Bulls pretty easily in that one. And that's in part because Wendel Carter. We got a time line for him now. High Ankle Sprain is the diagnosis four to six weeks for him. So it's GonNa be at least through the All star break you would imagine and the Bulls defense events. Now we've talked about how they're forcing so many turnovers how they are forcing turnovers at a level that has not been seen over a full season almost eighteen percent turnovers. They've forced and that number is always gonNA come down because the only one other teams been over seventeen percent in the last five years those the grizzlies and fifteen sixteen so that was always going to come down and now without Out Carter to be the guy out on the floor trapping and that aggressive bulls pick and roll coverage lucrative slight downgrade in that scheme. Well you don't WanNa and it just get locked into like the hinky special or something so I do think there's a matter of some negotiation probably..

"Url let them know that you came from us. I it's been a while that we've been able to say that the Sacramento Kings are one of the darlings of the NBA but they became a cult favourite last year on League pass with their pace and Darren Fox and now you want to talk to James Ham from NBC sports and California. It's California right that is the technical term California. NBC ABC's Sports Bay area both yes. Let's see we'll see whether he thinks these kings. It can take the next step of this year. I wanted to start by talking about how good these guys were. Last year. I think there is a perception that they were over their heads. They were in relative playoff contention even at the the trade deadline but then wall teams like the clippers and Spurs really took off got to forty eight wins kings kind of floundered a little bit even with the acquisition of Barnes and ended up slightly below five hundred on the a year thirty nine and forty three pretty similar point differential to that but I think the place to start is just what improved so dramatically for them last last year before we talk about whether that's sustainable and in fact could be improved on yeah. I think the biggest improvement was just in the quality of the players. The young players really took a gigantic leaps forward. Look at what the Urn Fox was able to do illegally buddy hield was able to do you Marvin Bagley coming in as a rookie and averaging almost fifteen points and seven and a half rebounds a game. I think they took some huge steps and I also think a lot of props needs to go today. Jaeger he designed in his his offense around the talent that he had and we didn't see the old grit and grind Yager. We saw a UPTEMPO crazy roese frenetic pace. I think it's slow does this season went on but that was always by design that as a team got better they thought that the pace would start to slow slow down slightly as he started you know putting more often sets and just got better at the overall game of basketball. I think it masks a lot of their deficiencies and I think this offseason they went out and filled a lot of those deficiencies to try to shore up what they're doing but overall. I think it was it was a really good starting place and it was probably I would say fourteen or fifteen games ahead of where most people thought they would be and I think if you look at the history of what they've done over the last decade and having a Lotta disappointing seasons alive seasons that you thought they should be better than say thirty three win team gene when they had plenty of talent this is the first year where you really saw a team take a huge leap forward and show that maybe they've got something and and in two or three years down the road they could be a contending quality team so I think there's a lot to like about what happened last season. whether it's sustainable Hannibal or not I'm sure we're going to get into it yeah and the thing that got the most attention obviously was the running and Dave Eger was a big part of that. I remember asking him early. In the season how he got into duties like well I lost my voice. I basically just scream at them to run at every opportunity which was kind of a funny remark so yeah. I think he did do a good job. why was it that he ended up the that they ended up moving on from him despite the fact that I think from an XS and os standpoint. It seemed seem like he really did an excellent job last year. You know yeager can be surly I he can his he took took a stance early in the season which by all means was well within his rights but when the Brandon Williams situation kind of flared its ugly head they got off to a fast start and mixing. You know they're still reports out there. That says that he could be let go. I think first of all coming into the season did and I think he was going to last very long. he and I had discussions he'd had discussions with other people. He kind of looked at the twenty game. Mark looked at the schedule looked at the players on his roster and had come up with that as the mark where look. I've got to get past the twenty game. Mark can get past there then maybe all around for the rest of the season but there's a good good chance he did not think he would be there for for anything after game twenty and when they were successful in that first twenty games of the season that's when the whole whole conflict from within came up and Brandon Williams and others having conversations out with media about whether tailgate you were still on on strong ground so when he took his stance against Randall Williams and against you know other people that that have the same opinion as Williams I think he he kind of put himself out there and I think it's probably the only move he had was to try to say to the Mir him but I also public opinion did appear to be on his side. At the time of that'll we didn't save him well yeah but I think the the issue is it still afraid relationships behind the scenes and I'm yeah his inability to move past it and I think if you look at Vladivostok they divide sees he's long been known as a person that they can. They can pull people together. Bring everyone together on. Put Him on the same page. Dave really really in one ever be on the same page with Brian Williams again and for good reason I mean I I'm not gonNA fault him for his his line of attack but I just think that it made an issue issue that that they couldn't get past and they didn't know what to do when they they got towards the end of the season. The team started to break down a bit. I think think it just kind of cemented the fact that you know we're thirty nine when team if we get to forty five wins or forty eight wins next season then then. David Egger is going to be here for a long time. Can we work with him longtime. long-term is he the right fit for us for the next eight to ten years because I think I think that's where you really do. Come Up. You have to make that decision. Now you know they of course paid him out for his next year salary but he would've wanted an extension this summer and you really really had decide is this the guy or is he not and blinded decided that he's not the guy he wanted to work with long term and that's his perogative as well a few you think that add to that Dave's agent worn Gary is not interested in going into final seasons of contracts so that's that's a big part of it too. It's also the fact that gaiger reports after the season that he didn't have the greatest relationship with Bagley or and Giles those kind of what I got reading between the lines of some of those reports and then finally the fact that they knew that they had a guy that I think at the time they considered upgrade basically they knew Luke Walton was going to get fired. It seemed like that deal was basically done before he even got fired in. La and so they got a guy that I would imagine they think is an upgrade. Yeah I mean I believe they. They think that Luke Walton is an upgrade grade. I will point out that Luke Walton ended yeager ran the identical records over the last three seasons one with the Lakers. There's one with the Kings. I can guarantee you this. The Lakers roster had more talent than the Kings for much of that time and so I mean really it's hard to say who is doing what I mean. I- Luke Walton didn't make the playoffs with Lebron James on his roster last year David yeager nearly we made the playoffs with a twenty year old starting point guard a nineteen year old power forward you know a young up and coming team but one on that no one really expected to be where they finished at the end of the year so I it's hard to compare because if we I just wrote this for a piece today like are the kings getting the thirty nine and four Golden State Warriors Lukewarm are they getting the ninety eight and one forty eight or whatever it is Lakers Luke Walton. I think you're going to get something in between for sure but you know he's gotTa be good. He's gotTa be the answer because his team has been waiting and waiting thirteen years without a playoff run and this is a time where they're building and they think they're onto something and so hopefully he's the right apiece. I certainly think his offensive style and a lot of things he brings to. The table are perfect for this team. I think Luke Maybe did a better job. Obtain that raw record with the Lakers would indicate when you consider some of the injuries that they had you can make the argument that he was better Kinda. Getting the end of the roster guys play hard. I thought they punched above their weight defensively at times with some of the groups that they had there obviously disappointed. He didn't appear to get along with Lebron so after after the disappointment last year it was fate accompli that they're going to move on from it but I do like the fact that he's GonNa continue the pushing. The ball which frankly is is just about entirely deer and Fox related when he's on the floor. They're probably the best transition team a basketball when he's off the floor of their pretty average of so I think a lot of that is just just what Fox is able to do but he's going to be out there for thirty four minutes game so that's at should be able to do like that. Luke has this history of pushing the pace and the other thing that yeah I think was totally under covered for me probably not by you but nationally it's just that like the kings were actually competent defensively last year. which is if if you look at their roster and you look at what they did the year before you're like? Where is this defense coming from for them to be a right around. League averages slightly below it defensively Soufli last year. That's was my biggest question. How did they take a step forward on that end and can that sustain. You know what I think. They can actually a lot better this year I'm like I kind of agree with you. Actually a we'll get into that will more with some of the new personnel yeah yeah I mean the the new personnel is one thing but also they're going to do a lot more switching coaching once they get their base defense said and you know they all have the same terminology and understanding the idea is to switch over to who more of what you've seen from Golden State Warriors and I think the Kings have lovers as far as offensive defensively. I I think they really can improve they brought it is about buyers that they brought in to run the defensive side of the ball season. NBA Defensive Mining coach that really he doesn't know what he's doing and I think it's interesting. I I will point this out. The Luke Walton brought one he brought Jesse merges with him from the Lakers but but outside of that he is an entirely new coaching staff and that coaching staff is entirely new to each other which is interesting so I think that will actually play a a roll this early in the season as well. The kings have a lot of new faces not a lot of new rotational players but also an entirely new coaching staff that is unfamiliar with each other and so they're going to have to figure things out pretty quickly as opposed to day GAIGER staff who every single one of those guys had coached against each other coach for each other coach with each other. I A in the minor leagues and a lot of them were together Memphis. This is a new staff so you know they've got a lot of work to do and very limited amount of time and abbreviated create a training camp because they're going to India on Monday so it it's kind of a crazy whirlwind here for Luke Walton in his staff yes so let's turn out to their off off season a little bit and I thought it was they got some mixed reviews. Certainly you could make the argument that some of these contracts that they gave out you might be considered overpay for pay of course the the Canada that is hey. y'All were in Sacramento. We don't necessarily get guys to come here for a discount and that they they had all this space now they don't flexibility ability next year but they will again the year after the a lot of just basically two year deals with deadman three years forty million but the last year largely. Z. non-guaranteed same thing with Cory Joseph and then Trevor Rees owes brought it only a one year guarantee at about all. Those guys are about twelve million per season season. They resigned Harrison Barnes to about twenty two million a year but that is going to decline at least to make that a.
