Golf's Biggest Winners of 2020

"All right. Sean it has been quite the year. it's not over. I'm not saying it's over. But i am saying we're here to get ahead of all those year end lists of winners losers best of we're tackling it midway through november where we winners this year. Did we win. I'm not confident that we were. There was a moment in the middle of september where you hung out with bryson into shambo after. He warned the. Us open lumberton potato. The me i'm gonna finish that offers a little bit pizza or game. We proceeded to miss a flight about six hours later. Yup and yet we were somehow still able to make it. Torrey pines south and talk to a bunch of the best golfers in the world in the next twenty four hours. Is the drop zone peaked. In twenty twenty. I think we had to peak. Then you the major winner. We go to play the next. Us open course at sunset. We have a great little afternoon at torrey pines. And then we hang out with zander and burger and morikawa and just korda the next day. And so yeah. That's where that's where we won. That's a really strong point. We didn't we didn't get to perform on the course as much as we like to in a typical year. But hey we're we're not really here to bring our golfed the people it's not about us you know who it's about it's about patrick. Reed patch agreed is by far one of the biggest winners of twenty twenty. All right start off years number one winner. Patrick reed defend yourself is one of the biggest losers of twenty nineteen. You'll remember that. He got stuck in some bunker fiasco in december of two thousand nineteen and we thought that it was gonna follow him alone for the entire year is is is swinging. You thought that people are gonna continue yelling at him while he was playing like. They did during his playoff in hawaii. David ferte call him. Captain oblivious which i thought was a great little nickname. Peter costas was telling people. I've seen patrick reed improve his lie in the rough numerous times and yet here we are twenty twenty. And we don't even do anything about this. We joke about it. We don't care about it. Patrick reed one in mexico. He contended i think you can say he contended at the. Us open he missed one cut after the restart. He's a winner this year. Because we don't care about what happened in past. This is where the phrase bigger fish to fry comes in our biggest problems. Man what a great time to be alive. Last december where our biggest worry was patrick. Reed kind of messing around in a waste. Bunker in the bahamas life was pretty good So yeah i mean. I think that that's a pretty fair one because look we just. Don't even talk that much about patrick reed right now. He's sneaky number eleven in the world. He's gonna be back on the us ryder cup team. If he if he keeps up you know his current run and play. He's been damn good.

We'll see. I be I wouldn't be against it per se. I mean this is pandemic rules. Everything goes, and everything goes. Anything goes just whatever they get the sports up and running, so we can watch them on TV. That's for sure. I, the weirdest feeling yesterday as I finally got to the hotel room. I was like. What season it? It's student writes June. I had because of no sports. A condition I'm GonNa coin. Maybe I'll get rich on this definition. Probably not. No sports seasonal dysphoric. It's can the short in that. What is that? If you shorten non-sports seasonal this for you so without sports. I don't even know what season we're in. It's so effing weird. I'm like it was warm today we played golf. The trees have leaves everything in my brain, says summer, and yet I come in my hotel room I walked through the lobby. There's not a single baseball game on. I have no urge to turn on the telly to find out what's going on. I have non-sports, seasonal, dysphoric and. And SSD NASD there. It is I, hope to never experience again in my life, but this is the thing about being a sports fan and going around this loop of the seasons in sports, your entire life fifty two years of this suddenly it's kicked out from underneath. So I'll take whatever we can get back as soon as we can get back the Ryder Cup. Dagger yesterday to hear the news. It's not official yet, but it's pretty much gonNa, be official, and as we said look. PGA tour announces mid-June return in Texas

"Golf as the PGA tour announced yesterday that it hopes to be back in action by June the PGA once the plate fourteen more vents are for the twenty nineteen to twenty twenty season starting with the Oct Charles Schwab classic at the colonial club in fort worth Texas on June eleventh through the fourteenth and end up with the tour championship at east lake in Atlanta September fourth through seven that will end and then we'll get the twenty twenty twenty twenty twenty twenty one season started with the U. S. open the Ryder Cup and the masters who has a lot to squeeze in you know when you're talking about September fourth the seventh now we know the masters is set their target date as the same weekend as is Tennessee Georgia right early part of November okay obviously the U. S. open Ryder Cup that's all going to be figured out PGA championship that will happen before the R. tour championship at east lake so that's covered we know that the British open is canceled so they're not rescheduling that so really the idea would be you'll get a one major before the tour championship and then you'll start to pick up you know a couple of majors at the end of this year and then get back into a normal schedule where you'll play the masters in November you're playing again in April you'll play the U. S. open I don't know when I mean I don't I don't think they have any idea about when the U. S. open is trying to to get back on board let's say it's sometime in October maybe let's say let's just for crafting it'll say sometime in October that will push the U. S. open you know to what when they don't play that made it June or something like that may or what have you have you know that that that usually I you know they've they've convinced all these majors now because they try to squeeze a man to make sure that they're in a reasonable time frame with the PGA within the a tour championship at the end of the quarter quote season if you at least for the golf season for all of it so the and the pastor who is the PGA tour chief tournaments and come our competitions officer and senior vice president and chief of operations tattered dentist discuss the tourist plans for the rest of twenty twenty in a teleconference with the media yesterday so they would say with a hundred percent certain that there will resume less than two months from now but he said tour officials are quote unquote very confident that we'll be able to play that second week in June our first and foremost concern throughout the resumption of the PGA tour schedule will be the safety and well being of everyone connected to and not just the PGA tour but those communities where we play we will play only when we are certain that is safe responsible to do that we aren't these the same monitoring very closely all the developments at the local city state and federal level and given that we're a global organization with members all over the world will also play very close attention to what's happening outside the borders of the

I'm saying there's a lot of uncertainty going on and I'm I'm curious if Tron sees himself as maybe someone who could fill that void and help clear up some of the the uncertainty there again. Yes next question. Not a Lotta time. I don't need it on my next. Pick one of the best players in the world also in the in this bombs division. Of course we are talking about Brooks Kepco and he will be a strong. Contributing member was amazing at Hazeltine And we are going to set this golf course up to look a lot like that one In a lot not very much so like France where he struggled so as someone who admittedly doesn't follow pro golf as closely as they would like to project that they do is brooks hurt. What's going on with Brooks? Is he good as knee needed a little bit of a little bit of work but he'll be fine comes September again? You gotta remember this. We're talking about event at six six months away. I've total confidence have received a lot of confidence. A lot of people down there in Jupiter. He will be fine. Why why put Brooks with To fill investment group. You know it was a different difficult decision. I'm getting. I want to reiterate that these are. The squads are just pencils right there just in pencil but You know it's been an instinct for a lot of people myself included to pair. Dj in Brooks together in these team events. And they don't like they don't like playing with each other The last event they got in a fight actually and out that was that was a wild Wish we knew more about that but that happens from over with a couple of Alpha's from time to time they run hot out there. But they're playing styles from what I've heard you know brooks maybe hits putts a little too hard for DJ. He doesn't like done like hitting. The comebacker is coming back and they don't have that chemistry that you think they might be in good friends. So I'd separate the two of them and I ended up thinking Brooks and fee now are going to make a decent pairing and then the other the other pairing within that in that forum might be. It might be my house Hutton. Move but we'll find out all right. I thought about that. Dj HITS AS PETS. Kind of drippy. Interesting trunk please. Your next Tommy. Fleetwood no-brainer there. No brainer there. What Mr Four own one at a Paris something? That sounds about right. He Lost Douglaston dusted by female but gas. Yeah well I know. He's he's one of your three five favorite players in the in the whole world. Talk to me about what you like about. Tommy fleetwood everything everything I love having been on the bag having been on the team room as well Yeah Tommy just excellent iron player. Great Driver Golf Ball. No concerns whatsoever with thrown him out there every session a guy who has You know obviously we saw what we saw at the Ryder Cup since. Then we've seen him in contention. We haven't seen them win a lot. Any any concerns on Tommy in in big moments recently none whatsoever asking me yes or no questions. They're not they're not paying offers. Sorry go ahead this next pick. I wouldn't say any my picture controversial. But maybe is the most controversial to commit to at this point again. I want to emphasize how this golf course is. GonNa play is GonNa be a big ballpark all right. There's going to be a lot. It's it's one big blank. Canvas Jessica Oscars Somebody who has had a lot of success at this golf course has been very close to winning a major championship. Aga- cheer Erba in the bombs. Division we are taking Baghdad. Jerry Bubba Watson you know I I see where you're going with Why that would be controversial but low key one of the best players in the world of. Oh yes four months played great golf great. He only played well in even years to make sure that he's on these teams for some reason It's a great setup. Forum Francis obviously a comical set up for him But I think he. I think he should have been on the team in Hazeltine at the time. It was a great great golf course. They picked Ryan more for some reason who did find but not exactly the best. Golf course fit so Yeah we're GONNA hit some bonds the BUBBA He's GonNa take it over that huge dog on the fifth hole. We're GonNa just GonNa let him let him go nuts. I I commend you on that. I think that's I think that's an interesting one in. I love seeing outside the box. Although how far outside the box is up for debate? But it's interesting to see something a little different box. Jason Boxer Jason Tron. Take me way outside the box. Man What are you got? I mean I think I've I don't think there is a complex cloud. We're GONNA put a lifetime membership to the European Ryder Cup. Team is just a member emeritus. He's he's a dog complete and utter dog talking about the state of his game. I don't think we've seen much. I don't think we've seen much from him over the last you know. I don't know since Medina really we got his. Pga Tour Card back true. That weird statistical anomaly. That was going on. Yeah which was crazy. Icees point fine. He was a t thirty two T twenty-seven Honda t seventeen at Saudi. Which I know we look pretty closely as Northstar. He's sixteen at the Omega Dubai. Desert Classic T- thirteen at the Zo t at the at the CJ car ran he's hanging X. Year I would jump in and say you know when he comes to earn Ryder Cups. You throw records out you know when he gets out there against that. The Stars and Stripes you know. It doesn't matter what his game I mean he was he was he was t six at the Twenty Nineteen. Saudi as well. So I mean he's he's GonNa peak at the right time. I have no concerns about. How do you think he's his quarantine polishing his car's many many cars? Yeah Yeah could be a rotator cuff issue in his in his feature film me out Mr Mickelson's investment fund here. Who's going to be paired with Bubba Watson? Well again you know. The pairings could be fluctuate Lewis situation that out but you know a guy that similar to fill fancies himself a bit of an intellectual similar to fill straight hidden bombs. You know exactly where I'm going with. This cannot believe I can't explain you. How much money I would pay to watch. Bryson Imbaba parody and that's where I'm going. This is an entertainment product of the day and Bryson to get paired together. And that's where I am Bryson to shampo welcome to the team. I'M GONNA add to Susan Captains okay. I'm going to add. Preet Behara the former the prosecutor prosecuted of New York. Okay just to. That's going to follow the Phil. Pairing around or the Philpot around and then I'm going to have to bring bill. Nye The science guy onto the squad to deepen the climate change seen right now. I don't know if he's have time on his calendar but Brin questions thought of do you have to be of. The nationality of one of the teams. Had the same questions and who could say? I don't think so. I think someone like a pre who's representative the DA of New York's southern district You know I'm sure. He would put the stars and stripes above a silly golf contest but if you had several conversations with them Then obviously I think he puts the law above of any sort of affiliation with same with Mr or Dr Ni- built Mr whatever I don't know if he's actual doctor He. He puts the the he puts science above everything. He did. A perfectly if you did a documentary that couple of years ago it was a little a little off had had some thoughts on it a little bill bill. Nye might be kind of a thirst bucket. I think. But let me just dive real quick back in your actual your actual selection. I picture for whatever reason immediately. What comes to mind On the BUBBA Bryson pairing is how weirdly natural the BUBBA JEFF? Overton pairing seemed to be just a couple of people who are diametrically opposed in every possible way for whatever reason bubba kind of like was wide open to it and Totally rolled with the whole weird situation. So is that was that. Was that one that was on your mind. Well it was kind of like taking my two problem children and making them sleep in the same room in bunk beds. You guys figured out okay. We're not webb. Simpson has been through so much. I had already started typing in websites. Now I will not put web in that position again. I think web needs to play his first. First Real Ryder Cup without having to babysit somebody and We're going to let that happen very interesting. All right and let's let's go over to your squad who's going to be back in Mr Poulter here. We're going to go with the RIB. Rory mcilroy again needs no introduction. T four at the jets. Hsbc CONCERNS. He does not play. Saudi it's also great success at the twenty ten PJ championship. That's exactly right. I was going. I was trying to think if If he had any real significant lakeside moments. I know he won the match. Play at Harding Park That's that's very lakeside. Maybe the fifteenth can get some of some of these Roy's other great lakes moments Kiawah Kiawah notion like But still similar VIBE. Let listen I'll go out and say I think we're always agree. Pick thanks yeah. I think I think he'll really bring a lot of stuff to your team. It's all I please in the final pod. I'M NOT GONNA lie. Zingers got his work. Cut Out in this pod like I. I don't know how you know these personalities all Mesh. This is where I would lean on him to say. You know what we need to kind of. Move some things around. But a guy want leading that pod kind of being the spokesman and being the guy that people turn to is Webb Simpson. Flush our now for. He is a certified dog he has been through a lot when it comes to not just his radka pairings but the anchor ban and he's come out the other side as truly one of the best golfers in the world so consistent in the exact guy you don't want to go up against a match because he's not. GonNa let you in. He just doesn't let it doesn't give you away around him. He is one of the best. Iron players in the world has been for super long time our good friends over the sovereign rankings. Absolutely love him currently number one in the world rankings and I want him as a state I think at least three matches. I don't WanNA commit people to four matches but I want him going at least three matches. Talk to me about this. I know you don't want to disparage any of your your guys. But talking about the wholesale turnaround that seemed to make on On Webb Simpson. Because things were a lot bleaker a would say back in the day so I was just trying to protect his cell phone bill. He doesn't have unlimited texts to be clear. Webber's texted his way onto onto my team. Where I for a long long long time. I just couldn't look at that. Follow through and think that he was actual good ball striker. I couldn't I just thought he faked it around. And that's on me. Look that's on me. Obviously one of the elite players in the League ball starters. You didn't hit it far far. I don't think he quite hits it as short as we've pointed out in the past But he that's the guy that's GonNa give himself tunnel. Looks at birdies. Putting thing he's completely clear now with his arm off putting and he hit parts with such conviction and taking down. Justin rose of the two thousand Eighteen Ryder Cup. When Rosas Number One player in the world Maybe number two player in the world. That meant a lot to me. That guy can lead. The I remember being on that Sixteenth Green or whatever that par-three was And watching him close that match out and being like a guy one on my team. Do you remember him. Shaking it on eleven at Augusta. Yeah Sixteen and Augusta and number eight Medina. Yeah I do but as somebody that also lives close to say. We have a lot in common any concerns that you know obviously you and This has not been widely reported in the media but you in his caddy story of had a bit of a running a kind of rift or a running kind of rivalry going in the in the Florida. State Association Winner Series Events. Will you guys be okay being in the same team room? Of course we will you know. How can you not say this? You know look at this pairing and not think how great it would be to have caddy. Who is a great player? His own or on the bag for Webb Simpson. I it's impossible to say how much how much value that is. All right. Excellent Tron You know we've got the rebound team. We've got fleetwood on the team. I gotta think you're looking. Maybe somewhere Jon Rahm someone like that what. What's on your mind before we do that? I'm going to add to big jungle bird as an ass. I'm GONNA have him follow around whatever. This is the guy. That Webb isn't yeah. That of course erupted the ceremonies at the twenty thirteen years of that. He's got unfinished business with the web. Got OUT OF JAIL CELL ACA Joe Jail Cell Pal. So web should apologize for that that was classless coming soon. Maybe yeah I mean we. You know we're going to go with Rahm here. Yeah I listen. I think it's a no brainer So we're so really are less. You know less five picks six heartland rose fleetwood poulter the RIB and Rahm starting really get into the media order here. I mean you know you. Can you can sail. You want about my squad and then I got some young young bucks backloaded roll up front forty nations ready to roll. Listen to look at. What more can you say about Jon?.

"But I just don't know that there's actual enough thought or the proper thought process that goes into pairing guys for foursomes, whatever they're doing. That work is our last two Ryder cups, thirteen to three in favor of Europe enforces. That's just it's, it's so lopsided that you gotta just think we need to. Whatever, whatever we're doing, blow it up because there's gotta be a better way, and I almost got into seem to do that on Saturday afternoon. It was like, because we had I specifically at the at the Presidents Cup DJ kept guide, played foursomes together and what we had heard that they did not think that they did not want to do that again. Like they just their their styles didn't mesh like you. You might think that they would and they didn't get together for the first three sessions. And then the panic sessions afternoon, they did get paired together. They did not win, but they wanna matches partners and in the Ryder Cup, they've played together, lost loss. And so I think they're just was general panic because leading into it. Like I know I, I'm pretty sure on kept because side like you just like would have preferred not to play with DJ, but it also just goes to and we talked about this in the last pot, but the US players didn't know who was going to be paired with who leading into it, like all the way up 'til Thursday, which seems insane. It does, and maybe it just. Kinda like maybe they kind of had an idea who's going to get paired, but they wanted to figure out what sessions were. What was like, you know that what the Format's going be, you know, maybe they wanted to figure out kind of maybe take a straw poll on Thursday, like who was really playing well, who's seeing their lines and who who's who can we roll out there? And it just didn't. It didn't make a ton of sense. And I don't know, it's it's four ball is I just don't know how much credence to give to the pairings in four-ball, like is, is tiger responsible for read playing poorly. There might be something to that. I think maybe maybe tiger, they've never been able to find a partner for tiger really to play his own ball well, but maybe you don't play tiger and four ball. If that's the case, if Tigers this exhausted, maybe just plays foursomes. Having said that, I don't remember. I remember hitting tiger hitting three shots from the fairway all week. Well, all right. So I need you to kinda help me to with something that I had no insight on, but I've never seen a Twitter reaction. So strong of disdain toward. Broadcast, like there was Friday morning for the Ryder Cup. It was despicable. It was probably it was everything that we roast all the Sunday afternoon broadcast for as far as too many commercials, the same commercials over and over again, bad timing of commercials. I mean, it was. It was like, they forgot that there was a live golf event going on at three o'clock in the morning, and they were just like, well, let's show all the infomercials that we were just gonna show at three o'clock in the morning on golf channel. When we're usually doing, you know, a repeat of whatever it was impossible to get in the flow for the for the commentary crew like you could tell that they were having hard time with it. We didn't see. We saw a lot of opening tee shots and very few shots from like the second hole third hole, and then they would pick it back up again on the fourth hole with the group, and they would be kind of telling us what was going on, but it was the most unified. I think American golf fans fell all week was y. Watching this unfold and we're just like, how? How do you set it up this poorly? I mean, it was it was awful. It was high, honestly, pulled up. The golf channel mentions just to see it. I want to see exactly how bad it was. Oh, my God, it was..

"Yeah, the the other names in front of them that that played so poorly kind of took away some of the heat off of Ricky too. I don't know. It just is like, I don't think it's easy to say, like all the bombers just couldn't play this course and whatnot. JT's like one of the biggest bombers in the world, and I know that people want to do this correlation causation like he went over and played the French Open and he went over and came back and went four and one, like maybe, yeah, like Phil went over and saw the golf course to. He didn't play in competition, but he played it before the open one of their saw the golf course society fucking hated it and never went back probably dreading having to play. I guess which I don't know. I don't know if Phil really, and we fills recent comments. He made this past week on the course setup and how he said playing won't play tournaments that are like that. I didn't actually hear the audio of it, but I think he's mean, like if this was a golf tournament, a stroke play tournament, like I wouldn't show up and play this tournament on these in these conditions, which he shouldn't. I don't think he was calling. I think he made it abundantly clear with this shenanigans at Shinnecock how he felt developed overwrought setups on golf courses, and but I don't think he meant like that the Ryder Cup was a waste of his time or playing this event was a waste of his time. I don't know, but I don't know how he can go over play that golf course in in the summer come in with the form that he was in and be like, Yep, like I'm a good guy for this team. Like, I'm I'm right for this team. If I had this blind faith and Phil, I just had this feeling that he was going to be able to flip flip the switch and turn it on. He's done it in the last three Ryder cups. And I just thought with how much he's taken on himself. F- with owning the process of forming the team in this whole transformation. I just thought he'd step up or have the wherewithal pull himself back, and I think he did Saturday. I think he told Feerick don't send me out Saturday, probably, right. I mean, just like Sergio, he was never not going to be on the team and Sergio did the thing that Phil probably should have done, which was take a little time on, factually, go, decompress, it's range balls. Try to find something. Sergio came over head a little warm of Portugal and played well and fill him over and didn't play well at all. And you know, fill in his interviews on the fair show back a little while ago. It was like, I'm going to be on the team. I'm going to be on the next one after that. And I'm probably going to be on the team after that. And it's like after this performance dude, I don't know that we really, I think there might be a time for changing of the guard here shortly. Yes, yes and no, because I think like if they go to whistling straights where this is not the things that mattered at golf Nationale won't matter. Maybe he will be. A good fifteen. I don't know. I mean, well, obviously depend on how he's playing and like a lot of different factors. I just this this golf course is ready to do the golf course yet is at time. Let's do. We wanna do Brooks and DJ I because that's the other big development that's happened. Let's do that first golf course. So I promise we will because that needs its own, like maybe separate podcast Brooks DJ this originally came from, I believe Mr. Corrigan the guardian. It's fine to pay well, so I don't. I don't know what's in the article, but it alleges that DJ and kept had to be separated in the European team room on Sunday night of the Ryder Cup. Multiple sources also revealed to golf channel that the incident occurred..

"Now let's get to our final Ryder Cup up with job. All right, ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the no laying up podcast. This is gonna this is it. We're wrapping up the Ryder Cup after this. No more Mercifully. We got a lot of positive feedback from having job on from just doing some bread cut previews and stuff. We kind of rushed out the Ryder Cup, recap podcasts. It was immediate reaction. It was just after live show. We need a chance to fully decompress from what happened last week in France needed a week. Away from it away from the phone for a little while to gather my thoughts marinate. Yeah, calm down a little bit. But job my first question you why? Why did the US lose the twenty eighteen Ryder Cup badly at that? Let me let me clarify that. Why did we get stomped? I just think twelve individuals does not a team make. I think that we had twelve individually very good golfers that for whatever reason, we just haven't figured out the the team gelling aspect yet we still haven't. Maybe the guys genuinely don't like each other as much as the Europeans like each other in that might have something to do with it, but it's just not. It's not a team. It's not a cohesive unit and you can't force it. Apparently. Yeah, I, I just kinda struggle with the idea of playing as a team. I just don't know what that means. Like four ball is for you play your own ball and like, yeah, you have a teammate that also playing their own ball next to you. But foursomes I get that there's kind of like a team weaving in an out Ella. But it's still about just playing good golf like, you can't. I don't know. Maybe it's kind of an environment thing that helps promote good play. That's the that's where I kind of draw the line on what the team aspect of it is, but there is obviously something to it because I think people have said that I've called this the greatest team ever. I don't think that might have to check the table in that. I believe what I said was the greatest collection of talent that we've ever had. And I stand by that. I think that's right. You know, kind of what you said about the even though Gulf is still an individual sport. Even when you're playing as a team, there's something about picking up your teammate. There's something about, you know, rooting teammate on knowing the right thing to say, having the personalities that make you feel comfortable on the golf course. I mean, you know, it's, it's impossible to think that there's not some sort of intangible something that we're just missing and it becomes obvious every time there's. A beat down like this, especially on European soil where the the press conference afterwards us just basically trashing each other in the captain's. I mean, clearly it's Larry. I loved just like the difference in and I don't even remember the twenty twelve press conference afterwards, but twenty fourteen obviously we know what happened with Phil and kind of just slamming Tom Watson along with the whole process sixteen with the Europeans like kinda showed up. I think a little bit drunk. They probably already started drinking and they just like laugh their way through it and just like tip their hat to the US they, it's just interesting to me that. People people are getting all over me for complaining about the course, and we're going to get to this golf course because we have a lot we actually have to cover with this might stink as far as I know only one of the last however many losing teams has taken the stand afterwards and just shredded the golf course. So let's revisit what happened after the twenty sixteen Ryder Cup at Hazeltine. So Rory..

"F. bomb on the television and you know he was. He was hitting it at both water hazards, like the idea that he in any way contributed to that match was. No way like it. Just I, he me in will be so much because I really thought they met in pay enough attention to his form coming into the Ryder Cup European, say his full, lost his phone, but he totally did like didn't play well. And I thought he could just turn it around. I thought about him. Maybe what you thought about Phil was like he would just raise the stakes and be like, of course, I'm gonna play well, and he was a dog man. It was terrible. Yeah. So back to that foreign point, I know a lot of people are getting on me like saying like, oh, you guys are playing in the torch championship, and I was like, no, it's not. It doesn't matter said maybe I sealed our fate by saying tiger could win this week and go three. No, I'm sorry. He could win this week and he could go three at at Ryder Cup. Well, turns out he went, oh, and four. On top of that, like current form good or bad, doesn't necessarily mean anything look no further than Sergio who didn't make the playoffs. Got some time off plays a meaningless event in Portugal. Finishes top ten and then comes out and plays even better this week. I mean, that was extremely predictable and Jordan. Didn't even make the tour championship and comes out and plays really good golf the. I mean, it wasn't great here today on Sunday, but played really good golf. So it's all huge variable and you can't. Rory played well at the BMW and torched championship and didn't play great this week. So I don't know. It's all big. It's not necessarily something you can really matters. I guess it matters some, but it doesn't. It's not the end all be all. I guess I could say. Yeah. All right. We talk about your boy in Poulter just I sure do to again. Well, yeah. I mean, that was I, I kind of considered that or was expecting that at least some regard. He went five hundred. He was too into like he wasn't that good. Let's let's. There was some. Yeah, you're right. Like he was. He got dusted in one of those matches Kim to JT that, yeah, beat him her they got. Yeah, they spe- underrated moment. This Ryder Cup was all right. I was trying so hard to grasp at the Medina straws. It was ten, four on Saturday afternoon, just like it wasn't Medina and Ian Poulter is playing in the last match. And a putt was made by speak, and he did the Ian Poulter pounding of the chest to pose the match to make it ten, six leading into Sunday. Now the momentum felt entirely different, but I was like, hey, that is as similarity speed pounded his chest at Poulter. Can we talk about that for a second Libyan Libyan joy something from this Ryder Cup, I guess in credit like he is, he's gotten a lot out of whatever talent that he had like in this event will always identify with him like at some. It's he's not the player that Monty was, but sort of a similar thing like it is never. He's never got to win. He never was quite good enough to win a major. He never even really was that close who's not as close as Monte, but Ryder cups always sort of be part of his legacy ended. I think it'll be really fun someday when he's a captain. I think for whatever it is like I was I would love to talk about this Sunday, but. Could he is he just better at controlling the adrenalin that's in your heart a little bit when you're standing over putz in this event because everybody's nervous, everybody really wants it and he's just, you know, some of it might be skewed by just a memory of big putts, but like he just he really is much better putter this. He just makes big. Putts plays like is iron gamers. Driver isn't like outstanding, but he makes must make kind puts to keep is guys either in matches or. Put away matches..

"No match reached the seventeenth hole team PTI on if that momentum continues. So I play golf. I'm not any good by play a lot of golf, and it never matters. Whatever I do on one day. It does not matter at all going in to the next day. It's as Earl Weaver says momentum is your next day. None of that stuff matters because if it mattered, then what why didn't the United States have momentum into the afternoon? When they won three one in the morning because it actually doesn't matter the thing that surprised me in the afternoon. What's why you would put Phil Mickelson out there in alternate-shot when he's very likely to hit his drive into the water. Phil Mickelson has to play homeboy. He can't play your boat doesn't work. I think that has a lot to do. And I think Jim furic. He's the guy that you have to look at because already people are calling for Phil Mickelson to be benched, so wisely and terrible. Afternoon show you want to put them out there. I get that. But why not put Brooks kept out there? Who's won two majors ahead of ahead of Phil Mickelson one five total before this and fills a far bigger draw, and it's a television show. And if you take fill the Paris, and you don't play, and why did you take if you look at the Americans? So off the tee the not as accurate as Europeans per capita. He's the guy that can drive the ball. There are that's one opening match. There are people who whose careers are made. By the Ryder Cup in poultry great Ryder Cup player. Sergio Garcia's a great Ryder Cup player. It's possible. To Fleetwood Molinaro will become great Ryder Cup players. We don't have those yet. Because the Ryder Cup for us is fun. It's a nice thing to do. It's an exhibition. Everybody has a good time. But are Americans don't evaluate golfers. In terms of the Ryder Cup. "Let me give the formal introduction. The stage is set in France, the historic rivalry USA trying to defend on foreign soil. It's Europe trying to reclaim it the ultimate must win. It's Paris tomorrow at two AM eastern on golf channel. The Ryder Cup continue Saturday at three eastern on NBC. Notably gay a former professional golfer now a golf analyst for NBC sports and the golf channel joins us. Now. Not how's the weather over there? It is absolutely perfect. And I mean about seventy degrees right now and just not much wind and pretty ideal conditions for golf. As far as trying to defend on foreign soil here in the US handicap the US team versus the European team. Well, it's a really strong team on paper. The average role rank is eleven and which is substantially better than the average rank of the European squad. But when you look at the venue, what viewers are going to see is a really tight, very tactical golf course. There were players are going to be hitting their teashops to a lot of the same places whether you're long hitter or a shorter hitter. And then it's just gonna be come down to who can who has who has the nerve and who can hit their iron shots closer and then make a few putts. So I think this year's Ryder Cup. You're going to see a lot more holes one with par because Dan, I was just out there. Walk on the golf course at rough is brutal. It's similar what we used to see the the old setup for US Open's. It's just deep. It's thick it's healthy. And unless you get lucky with a lie, you're not going to be able to make a play for the green. And the as far as the European team. Your is your favorite in this. Actually, you're Europe's the dog in they are. Yeah. It's interesting. Well, I think it's because it's been twenty five years since the United States has been able to win the Ryder Cup on foreign soil. The last time was at the belfry in nineteen Ninety-three. So we have very little success here, and no one can really pinpoint why because typically we come in with much stronger teams as far as worldwide wins world rank any sort of metric that you want to evaluate to determine quality of a team the US is typically better, but they just seem to have chemistry. They get the momentum. They make the big pots, and you know, if you get a two point lead in this thing, that's a huge deficit to have to overcome. And they've they've managed to do it a lot better than we have at least in in continental Europe. How big is the Tiger Woods story factor over there in Paris. It's huge. I mean, you you should know the crowds just to follow me on the practice round. It's you know, he probably get sixty seventy percent of of the fans around his group. And then the rest kind of dispersed around the other groups, it's just it's amazing. I mean, the resurgence of Tiger Woods and him winning again. After such a battle off. The course injuries come back the whole thing. It's just kind of injected golf with this huge boost of energy, and you can feel it over here. And you know, he's energized his team, and he's kind of bringing that sort of tiger factor. Tiger intimidation. Back to the golf course you known him a long time, you were college teammates, and we had Nick Faldo on recently. And he said that tiger told him at the masters champions dinner a couple years ago that he he could barely sit down that he was done this transformation. I don't know if it's the greatest comeback in history. But it's certain. Early on the short list there. How do you explain how this happened and how everybody fell back in love with Tiger Woods. Well, I mean, I was I was there. I mean, he had four surgeries to sort of deal with this whole issue. And then I was there after the first surgery, and I went to visit him at his house just to sort of give him some support. And encourage them to sorta hanging there emotionally, and it couldn't sit up like he couldn't sit up in a in a cherry had always sort of be at an angle 'cause he just is back really at that point. Couldn't sustain any type of pressure. And he asked me to drive him to run some errands. And we went to pick the kids up at school. And it was sort of it was it'd be honest. And it was it was a heart was a hard thing for me to see. I mean, I've I've known this guy since he was nine years old we've been best friends for thirty years. And and to see that he was in that condition, and to know that this could quite possibly be the end of, you know, one of the grace athletes in history of sports or the sad thing for me. And it was tough for me. Even process much less him, and then come full, circle, and a few more surgeries and fusion and then him having to rebuild his entire game around what his physical limitations would allow him to do. I'd I'd put it up there. You know, one of the greatest comebacks in the history of our sport. Just because there were so many obstacles to deal with in. And he did it there. You know, he didn't have any teammates or anything kind of pulling the wait for him. I mean in golf, you have to go out there, and you have to do it. And you have to earn it on your own. We're talking to notable gay part of the golf channel. And NBC sports coverage of the Ryder Cup tiger was asked about his mount Rushmore of golf. He had this to say, and I'll get your reaction to all time on Rushmore golf wall. Sneeze Jones Nicklaus. What did you make of his answer? There. Well, it it tells me that he has a tremendous amount of respect for history and Bobby Jones and that he acknowledges Sam Snead's all-time PJ tour win record at eighty two. Which is how you know may or may not break over the next couple of years. So and that he feels good about. Does he think he's better than Jack Nicklaus? Yes. I believe he does I do too. I just I don't. I mean, a lot of people say it's not fair to compare. But I just I don't I don't know how. There could be a person that at his high point could do was the best at everything. Jack was never the best at everything. He was really really good at you know, let's call it. Six out of the seven disciplines what's going on in the background? Not. That's you. That's kind of the music coming from the opening ceremony that they're having on the ground that some are compound is pretty close to that. So you're kind of getting the okay over of sound from that. I'm actually standing up saluting the flag in talking to you. I appreciate that. Thank you. No sitting no kneeling. They're not. You got it. But yeah, I just you know, we'll never see it. We'll never know. I do think Jack's win masters in eighty eighty six was one of the greatest feats in sports. But I do think overall that if if they were to go head to head, and I don't think I've ever said this on air. But if they were, but I thought about it since I've gotten into television and media and whatnot. I think tiger wood would beat them. You know, seven out of ten times. Haley because Jack's not going to be intimidated that that's part of tigar's legacy. Is you know, he he would stare down everybody, and they all melted into the guys who stood up to him where the guys who didn't have any reputation. But the guys who were supposed to stand up to him that that's what I think the mind game between Jack and tiger. If they did pair off against each other because you couldn't intimidate Jack. And Jack's not intimidating tiger. Right. Right. So that would sort of those were things across each other out. But I mean, so much depend. It's it's different than you know, a game of basketball where the dimensions of the quarter the same or baseball golf. It would depend on the venue. Where would they play? You know, what would be the setup? What would be the green speeds? What would be the width of the fairways? How much how deep with the rough be like those would all factor in. But regardless of where they went or how they set it up. I do think Tiger Woods is slightly superior golfer. How does the United States win? The Ryder Cup. The United States wins. The Ryder Cup by being patient and disciplined most of most of our players when they get behind or they make a couple bogeys they'll start playing a lot more aggressively. But there's there's so much water on these finishing holes. And the rough is so high that if they try to see if they start pressing and trying to play aggressive and overpower the golf course it's gonna lead to more mistakes. So they really have to rely on staying discipline hitting to the appropriate spots in the fairway and then trying to take advantage of good solid iron play and just really not try and get too far behind in any of their matches. Why was Paris picked? Well, I just think they try and move it around. I mean, they they they try and move the Ryder Cup around because for a couple of reasons. I mean, we're spoiled they're supposed to represent the entire continent of Europe and majority of of these have been played in England and some of the some of the other more popular venues in Spain. And and I just think it was time for France to host this event. Unfortunately, they don't have any players. I was gonna ask you. They're not even represented. They should get an automatic berth. Not like the. I agree. Like, I I mean, they had a couple of players that could have been close to qualify. Victor Dubuisson qualified for the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles in Scotland four years ago, and I thought that he might have a chance of making it here. And he would have been a great addition to the team, but they just haven't had anyone of that caliber, the I think the highest ranked player for the French representing the country of France has Alexander Levy, and and you know, he didn't he didn't play well enough to get consideration. I would think to Shambo sounds French. And then they should they should acquire Bryson to Shambo at least for the weekend. I think that's only he could have been the player to be named later. I mean, I'm I'm with it. I mean, he's got a French last name. No to have fun over there. And it'll be a great watch. We appreciate your time as always. All right, Dan. Thanks for the call Matt's. "Their offense is gonna face longer fields, and it has. You're not getting a ton of first dodger far year. Some of that of byproduct of course of the short fields, but you would expect Miami to regress I think you circle that game next week on the Cincinnati back to back his division when really hope I think, and I'm not gonna have any investment in this Miami New England game, you hope that Miami plays? Well, I don't know if they win, but if they play well out gain New England, maybe lose by a field goal, something like that or outright win the game. That's the hope that I have. So I can come back and go against them next week against Cincinnati, and that's wanna pay attention to even if you're not gonna have any s Madonna game specifically, look to use it to your advantage in the few. Well, there's no doubt about it. I think you'll be other thing I would say is it's a gain you're paying attention to of in in the opportunities that exist now that you know really want there in the past with in game wagering, obviously had side wagering. He's been around forever, but I mean you, you can watch the game, you know if you're going in there with any grey areas, but you know why? Why would you jump into the deep end of the pool unless you had convictions? I mean, this game's hard enough to begin with, but it doesn't mean it's not the kind game. You can sit there and watch and say, all the patriots, moved it up and down the field, and they dropped the touchdown, pass in the end zone settled for a field goal or fumbled at the seven, they were marching up and down the field. Then you find value in the halftime number that was put up or again, back to the coaches, you know that they missed some tackles. They'll make some adjustments that you dive into a game. Mid-stream a game that you had doubts on, but the ball test is still to me. I mean, you could crunch numbers, power, rankings, and everybody has their their way to do this. To me, the eyeball test is still the biggest thing out there. All right. Let's transition over to the Gulf side of things here because I want to make sure that we've got some time to talk about the Ryder Cup on the twenty sixteen Ryder Cup at Hazeltine was probably the most invested. I've been in golf in a very, very long time. It was a great event to watch. Obviously, you had Patrick Reed and Rory mcilroy going back and forth. You know, I'm expecting a very high energy environment here over in France with the twenty eight team version at the golf national. This is also the site of the Olympics in twenty and twenty four. So we can do a little bit of handicapping on the course for that as we've got five rookies on team Europe, I believe three rookies on the US team. This is a match play format. Friday, you've got foursomes and fourballs four balls would be the alter. The better ball foursomes would be alternate-shot same thing on Saturday, twelve individual matches on Sunday. So that's how will break down the format here for the Ryder Cup and Ryan. Let's start with a look at the. Course because this is a situation here where the European team has a distinct advantage over the US team. Here angel. So the Europeans majority, of course, very, very well. Handful, the Americans played in that event of, I think on the course side of things, it's narrow. There's a lot of water, but it's match-play so. Just generally speaking. The difference here is there guys that can just don't win because they always say snowman somewhere over four days. They have also or two that shoots themselves out of a tournament. This is, you know, scratch it off, get onto the next hole. So the guys that can be be stars in this kind of format of the aren't necessarily the guys go out and win tournaments. Justin Rose is number one of the world's great. He's he manages golf courses. B doesn't take himself out of gulp Jim, but he's the number one player in the world..

If we do you are not going to want to miss this now. No, you are not, especially when you hear that we're talking Ryder Cup golf. The biggest thing in the golfing universe by far and knocking it straight down. The fairway will be our very own sports mad professor, Eric Gough will be putting the course under close scrutiny and pulling out some hidden science for your review. Yes. And once we've seen if science can explain how to Concha albatross atlan national, we will be cruel ruling inside of the brain of a Ryder Cup gopher all of that with the help of performance psychologist Dr Greg steamboat, so clean, Ables chop. You and I, we're coming out swinging, can't tell you how long I've been waiting to hear you say that. Sound joining us? I is physics professor, Eric golf. It's good to have you back professor. How are you. I'm doing great and Chuck. I grew up and heard plenty of golf ball jokes. So I'm anxious for this show. Well, everybody who's familiar with this show knows that professor, Eric Gough is from Lynchburg university in Virginia, and the author of gold medal physics. So which we do believe was a stocking stuffer. It was Christmas Christmas. That's right. And it will be again this Christmas colors, still imprint, people salute makes it is. So let's start, should we profess a? Can you give us a an overall idea of the kind, of course the Ryder Cup plaza going to be faced with this time round. So this golf course has a mixture of meadow and bit grass greens. And these are a little softer than the Bermuda greens that maybe some of us here in the warmer parts of the US play on. So the the golf course fairways have a mixture of the bit. And the ri- and the fescue grasses said, these types of grasses are little bit more helpful him in the climate's a little cooler. If you tried to use these grasses down around the beach areas or. The hotter parts of the US. They would require a lot of water, a lot of care and taking care of the golf courses. So they're expensive. So the Bermuda glasses grasses what you see when you're in the hotter parts in the US by the way Bermuda grass just sounds like something I want to smoke so bad. Interesting thing. There is professor with certain species of Groff's. It's rougher smooth. It would then cause more friction unless it's cut very, very short. That's right. And you gotta love something like bent grass. I mean bit grass. This is, you know, it's pure science. This is hybrid grass hybrid material synthetics. These are really used in the putting surfaces something like ryegrass, these grow better in the cold. You put the fess fescue grass near the green. So I mean the these scientists really taken over the links and really improve the types of play that you can get on the golf course. I tell you professor, there is nothing this guy does not know. He's the groundskeeper. Willie science is unbelievable. I'll tell you what wait. We here at the at the university of Lynchburg. I have a lot of good students who helped me with some of these things that I got Carter olds. What am I student? He's a golf player on the team here. So we we had a lot of fun break in this course down. So this course is basically designed to be a pain in the took. For the for the players. Right. Is that the whole idea behind designing, of course, like this, especially with all these different types of grass, which will I would assume, affect the play of the ball. That's why you want these different types of glass grass is. And so is this to make it so that you know you're just throwing your clubs into the water? Is that the idea? Well, I think the biggest issue for the players is going to be when they drive off the cheese. The fairways are quite sloped. They're going to have to deal with some pretty difficult lies in the fairways and sometimes they'll have the ball either a little bit above or below their feet when they're hitting their second shot..

"Guys getting together after the two thousand fourteen Ryder Cup and saying, okay, we're not running this operation properly were getting out thought outmaneuvered outworked by this other team, we we've got to take on a lot more than we have and take this for more seriously than we have have a plan that we're gonna follow in Ryder Cup after Ryder Cup and implement this plan. Maybe get it done. And I think that that this task force that the people try to make fun of their for while is a big part of the reason why I think that the US is going to have some success you're moving forward. I was going to getting ready to ask about that because I wanna know that in twenty fourteen was it, was it evident that there was dissent building up regarding the leadership of that team? And in my personal opinion, I think that what Phil said after the Ryder Cup, it was felt and seemed very personal at Tom Watson. But if you really read closely at what he said, it was more of an indictment of the entire process. So was that kind of momentum building up before that event even began in the middle of the event and just kind of bubbled up at right into that press conference, or how did you, or was this kind of thing that you saw playing out pretty easily. It was an absolute indictment of the process. It's to use your words and. I mean, this has been building for some time. I think you know you could. It was. You could have a problem with the way. You know, the captains were selected and I'm not talking about Tom Watson, I'm just talking about generally speaking over the last fifteen twenty years. But again, I think the players also all wanna be part of the process and you can't. You can't go to a guy. You can't go to a guy the day before the matches start and say, okay, you're gonna. You're gonna play with this guy and you've got, you know today to get used to his golf ball of whatever the case may be. You know, you've got to take these things very, very seriously. And you know, again, you know, to kind of. Reiterate how, how well the Europeans were doing it. They go so far as to having control of their t. times of their European tour. So the captain of their Ryder Cup teams was basically putting guys together on Thursday and Friday or or calling the tour and say, put these guys together, so they could get used to a one another being around each other, seeing how they play spending time together on the golf course because they were thinking some months down the road is putting them out together, you know, in in some kind of format at the Ryder Cup and they, there was just they weren't leaving anything in the left to chance in terms of, you know how far they would go to win these things in the setup of the golf courses and all this stuff. And and we weren't doing that and it had to happen at some point collectively, these guys had to get together and and get some kind of movement..

"Feeder right club today. That's better than most. About in is better than most. Expecting thing. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the no laying up podcast. This is might be might be the Ryder Cup preview. I'm not positive. We're gonna have another one, but we promised you another Ryder Cup stock report with our European tour correspondent job thicket we are late in getting to the teams are formed, but he's here. He's arrived Mr. thicket. How are you? I'm doing so well, let's make this the definitive writer we're going to try. We are excited the. We let a couple days go by here after the finals of the captain's picks for couple scheduling reasons, but we still plenty got plenty of time before this thing kicks off here in a couple of weeks in France. Now the teams are finalized. I'm feeling I'm feeling pretty good. I'm not gonna lie, but don't tune out just yet European fans before we get going. Don't fast forward to this part because you're going to want to hear it for the Ryder Cup or for this week on the podcast Calloway is going to give away a rogue driver. And here is how. You can earn one replied to the tweet of this podcast. So when this podcast goes up, I'm going to tweet it out. You have to reply to that tweet. If you don't apply to that one, you're limited. I'm not gonna filter, save any of the other ones. So replied suite with a prediction of something that's going to happen at the Ryder Cup. It can be anything, but the best prediction that comes true is going to win a Callaway rogue driver. I mean, it can be, you can be Bryson stabs, a guy with a Trident. And if he does that, that's probably going to win. If read comes in on a parachute to the, I t like that's probably going to win. So make a good bold prediction. Whatever the most true prediction is you are going to win a Callaway road driver. We'll give it away after the Ryder Cup. How's that sound job? That sounds pretty awesome. I would like to think that maybe if Trump's favorites Spencer Levin was on the Ryder Cup team that he would smoke more cigarettes than the rest of Paris combined. That would be a good prediction. It would be hard to prove, but that would be that would fit the mold of bold prediction to be clear here we are the final say as to what the best prediction is. It's probably going to be the funniest one or the most outrageous one, but we reserve total judgment into choosing what the best prediction that turns out to be true actually is we've phone with the high coups. Thanks to everybody that sent in high coups for the to win the chrome soft, the troops balls that was a lot of fun filtering through those lot..

"Sergio Garcia and yes for Parnevik this fast. Sergio was a captain's. Pick the fifth ranked player in the world. I imagine that had something to do with the qualification criteria, then I don't miss the European tour. And the whole event just does not feel like a big deal. Like one of the main sources on the Wikipedia page is about. It's a is about Middle East talks with Tony Blair and he's whereabouts go to war, but he's talking about the Ryder Cup and some discussion about Middle East. Now watch this drive now watch strive. So Europe's up four point five to three point five day one Tigers in two on day one. He plays with doesn't care. Paul easing her in Mark Calcavecchia partners. They battled back and it's eight going into singles and strange back loaded the lineup and was shredded for it. And in his defense, he said, we got beat the score on Sunday was twenty eight under for the Europeans to eight under for us. The facts ruin the stories. A lot of times the facts never get in there. Those who questioned my first three guys insulted those players. I will defend all twelve my players till the day. I leave this place insulted David Duval, David Toms, especially in Scott Scott hoped by saying, I didn't have good players up front Scott. They were world class players, Phillip Price, beat Mickelson day. There might be no better symbol for the US struggles in the Ryder Cup than Phillip Price beating Phil Mickelson big Randy. Do you have anything to say about Phil Mickelson losing Phillip Price in two thousand two does. It's just fill being Phil. This is the this is the year that Zinger holed a bunker shot on the eighteenth hole to have his match against nNcholas FOSS, had the awkward high fives with this caddy and was screaming at him. He didn't deserve Patrick. He didn't deserve because he was trying like in Europe. The Europeans make such a big deal out of who clinches the winning point. Like it means something to them shout out to Jamie Donaldson. Yeah, and and and Zinger. Like didn't want fos to get the winning point. Something happened to them earlier in that match. I don't remember exactly what it was. And then so you just like the whole time he's told his caddy for this guy to serve. He doesn't deserve the winning point done, deserve it. And so when he holed the bunker shot, that's what he's yelling at his caddy is doing the high fives. That's for two thousand two. That's a short one. Unless there's I guess we didn't go to the US roster, which was the US roster was Curtis trains captain Tiger Woods. Phil Mickelson David Duval Mark Calcavecchia, David Toms Davis Love the third Scott Hoke Jim furic. How Sutton Stewart? Cink Scott Verplank Paul easing her? Okay, usual suspects standard. Maybe hope is kind of a bit of a wild card. Yeah, we're we're getting who's going to be the Scott Hoke of this year's team? Is there one? We're going to have theme here between two thousand two and two thousand six all building towards one amazing fact six but two thousand four is Oakland Hills in Michigan. How Sutton verse Bernard longer as the captain's? Shockingly the British press press is not over the ninety nine Cup, Brookline..

"Now, let's get into the dark era from the US perspective on the Ryder Cup, the next three or not nearly as entertaining as that. Two thousand two Ryder Cup is actually was called the two thousand and one Ryder Cup. This happened is September eleventh, two thousand one. Obviously, the tragedy in the US happened about three weeks before the Ryder Cup, the PJ of America. It informed the European Ryder Cup board that the scope of last Tuesday's tragedy is so overwhelming that it would not be possible for the United States radicalled team in ficials to attend the match the manager of Phil Mickelson and Mark Calcavecchia had earlier announced that the two players would not travel to Europe. Other American players were said to be concerned about attending the event. It was agreed that the same captains and players would participate in the two thousand two event. So teams are locked in in September two thousand one. They delay the event for a year and they just take the same teams in two thousand the belfry. That was the belfry strange for Sam Torrance side. Note what happened the next year was Presidents Cup scheduled. President's Cup was scheduled in two thousand two, but it got back into off. Ears. Now three that was that was that was South Africa. Yeah, that was Ernie. Els being here. So September nineteenth, two thousand two, we'll. So which players kind got the shaft on not making this team. Then with with teams kind of being locked in a year head of time who had the best two thousand to guess tiger wider. The US open and PGA. What was the PGA that year? Wasn't that Medina? No, that was ninety nine. I'm not sure who had the best. Two thousand two ended up getting screwed. But do you have a couple of notes in that Lee? Westwood was twentieth in the world when the team was formed, he was one hundred forty eight when the event began how sudden was twenty seventh in the world in one hundred twenty fifth, when the event began. So give it time stamp here the day. The event goes off Bush administration pressures US congress to pass a resolution, giving Bush authority to use all means to terms to be appropriate, including force to oust Saddam Hussein, disarm, Iraq, big, that's big day which amazingly in the wicked pedia for key events of September, two thousand to the Ryder Cup made it in there. I have no idea how there's only like fifteen events in there. So earlier in September, at the American Express event that was in Ireland woods was asked directly benefit needs to come back. Yeah, that's the Mexico. I know. Well, I don't know what's was asked. I look, I don't have a solution to go back. What would be more important for you to win this week or the Ryder Cup next week in Woodson here this week, I can think of a million reasons by sick. Yeah. So doesn't to PJ by the way is rich beem his so he probably missed out. So he prime minister? Yeah, it may so talk next. He's just made the event stale, three years between cups ship mcharg. They should have played after nine, eleven extra year ditch health. I know wasn't the same fever pitch, and it was just totally different feeling. Sure. It wouldn't have been the same fever pitch. I know. I know. I think they should have deleted. They made the right decision, but just in the same team stay together for year, like Ryan more found out the Sunday before the event that he was on the last Ryder Cup team. And this is like you're on the same team for an entire year. It's just such a such a weird arrangement. Phillip Price and peer folk were on the European team. Fearful, we'd right. I zero memories outside of this. This Radic up for either of those two players. Scott Verplank was thirty eight year old rookie. Captain's pick Tigers the youngest player on the team at twenty six years old. Stewart Cink is the only player under other player under thirty at twenty nine go through rosters. That's the fun part. Sand rinse is the captain Darren Clarke Padre Harrington Thomas Bjorn Colin Montgomerie, pier folk Lee. Westwood, Paul McGinley Nicklaus fast, burn on longer Phillip Price..

"Yeah. Yeah, probably. But first of all rooms, not local. He'd been out in India, go at that point so l. cat is facts wrong there. Montes back Monte. Excuse me. Definitely sounds like some Roman is. Yongle would be up to, yeah, in the celebration, the guardian reports. A lot of this comes from the guardian when his team won at Brooklyn in Boston. Tiger this about tiger when his team at one at Brooklyn in Boston in ninety nine and celebrated long into the night, what's to be dragged from his bed to join it. He had retired early, the only team member to do so and things that reached the stage where the late Payne Stewart was dancing on top of PNO. When Wood's absence was remarked upon, he was bummed out of bed and made to join unwilling participant. Now they have. So that's what I've got for nineteen ninety nine. Anything in your guys mind missing? No, I couldn't possibly. No, I have no idea what what else you could even add? I'm psyched to watch the singles match tonight. Rebroadcast God, like there's just this, this whole. Obviously, we were not covering golf anywhere near this time period, but this this backwards with thirteen read this ping pong back and forth in the media is like one of my favorite things. Read about ever. So let me ask you this. Do you think the crowds being boisterous, rowdy, and like, do you think the environment is bad for the Ryder Cup and is bad for the game golf? That's what I was gonna say too is if you look at like the moments that as I understand anyways at that have kind of escalated the Ryder Cup to what it is now, it's it's what is this? It's Kiawah. It's all these like controversy points that basically you have Monte saying that you know, the spirit of the game is just being shit on here, which is probably true, but I don't think you can probably more that it's also led to it becoming, you know, this big spectacle what it is now, and I'm sure everybody's kind of richer bull rutta, literally and figuratively for it. Yeah, it's it's not good. I mean, it's like these these things happen, which is most definitely appear. So it's, I think the Ryder Cup fans think that they. I have the right to act like football fans that the gratified ballgame. It's the one team event and it's just they all decorum goes out the window. Some stuff happens in Europe. I mean, fans still cheer for bad shots, which I don't have a problem with and but it definitely what I heard at twenty sixteen at Hazeltine was a lot of it was too much. It was too far. We'll we'll get there. Yeah, we will. All right. We had our fun with the triumphant victory nineteen ninety nine for the US Ryder Cup team. It's about to get a lot darker on this podcast. So in line with what we're the subject of today's discussion, I know you guys remember the Callaway Stars Stripes chrome, soft troops, golf balls. They features the popular troops pattern, patriotic red, white, and blue design, which is fitting since all of callaway's crumbs off balls are made here in the United States will to gear up for the Ryder Cup. They announced the addition of the team Europe version with the gross.
