You know, the climate report being the biggest Friday news dump peace, and that's devastating and Trump's it'll bleed. Yeah. But the good thing is that even though it was intended to be a Friday holiday news known. Everybody was reporting on it. Everybody is talking about it. And they're also talking about how it was intended to be a Friday right in news. So easy blew it doesn't even matter the way blew it. They did this. They released it a month early to do it in in news, dump style. But what they didn't realize because there's nothing going on a holiday weekend. Everybody covered this story. So it got more coverage than it probably would have if they had waited until December. When it was originally supposed to come out. Because they're idiot. Yes. They are say it with me everybody there. Idiots. Okay. Well, starting with a CBS tweet that I just opened up the article for interior secretary. Ryan Zinke cleared in Utah monument. Pro what an internal watchdog cleared Zinke of wrongdoing following a complaint that he redrew the boundaries of a national monument in Utah to benefit a state lawmaker and political ally the interior department's office of inspector general said it found no evidence that Zinke gave a veteran gave veterans state Representative Mike Noel or Noel preferential treatment in shrinking the boundaries of Utah's grand staircase Escalona national monument. That flies over the department of the interior when he's in the office when he's out of the building the flag is down. Maybe he just needs to be reminded that he's actually there. It's a whole big White House of idiots. Yeah. Paul Waldman today. He's quoting over Matt visor who is with the Washington Post and met visor said, quote, how does he fit in with Mississippi? How does he fit in President Trump on Mike Espy, pardon me for saying president, by the way, m Paul Waldman said what could he passably be referring to? Well, I guess we'll never know for sure yet. Mike Espy's, you know, forebears is his relatives were slaves in Mississippi. He's from Mississippi Donald Trump. How do you wind up in Mississippi? Oh, I get it not much in the brain area. Not saying that people in Mississippi are stupid, just you know, the inbred ones. Well, I personally know people who've in Mississippi who are really good liberals and really wonderful people. And I've really I feel for them. How I could not stand to live in a place that is so racist and so red and can either my goodness rate song, by the way by Bob Dylan on the time out of mind album called Mississippi to great sign has nothing to you know, better than the state. I've been hearing it in my head for the last few days while it is this racist going on today's election day, by the way, if you're in Mississippi vote, yes, only if you're a democrat though. I said this. This is a tweet from me. But it's because I was what was this about? I was watching Craig Melvin show on MSNBC. You know, because I'm in California. I'm three hours behind breaking news on the west on the east coast. Yep. So I have to watch as I read, you know, I read tweets and headlines, and you name it. I spend my whole the first three hours of my day doing nothing but catching up now. I I do watch Craig Melvin. And I watch shows that I don't particularly like just to do that. Well, Craig Melvin reported quote, this is a quote from Giuliani. Okay. This just to talking about the Manafort Assange connection, and he said, quote, this is unequivocally phase fake news. I am told that's the quote that Craig Melvin broke into his own show to report which is the stupidest waste of time. Because one Giuliani said it he lies for Trump all the time too. He was the word fake news. So basically Craig Melvin was passing along fake news meme right and three I am told. Well, of course, it was Trump told right on it. Yeah. Yeah. Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker to oversee Mueller probe

"Former US attorney from Iowa and the George W Bush administration. So he does have DOJ experience by Democrats in particular are quite concerned about whether he's tipped his hand as to how he feels about this mother probe carry I wanna take a moment to hear your thoughts about Jeff Sessions. The departing attorney general departed attorney general who you covered for for a couple of years. This is a guy. I know who was scorned by many Trump supporters for not seeming supportive of Naf of his president which wasn't his job. A bit. Also scorned by people on the left because of the immigration and other policies that he backed what are his friends and supporters saying of his two years as attorney general a lot of support statements supportive statements overnight, Steve from sessions, former colleagues in the Senate where Jeff Sessions surfer twenty years, they say he had a forty year dedicated record of public service. He did a lot at crack down on immigration and asylum, which is one of Donald Trump's top priorities in his heart was in the right place. He wanted to do the right thing. That's why he recused himself from the Russia probe which put him in the president's ill Grace's to begin with Gary. Thanks so much. Really? Appreciate it. My pleasure. That's NPR Justice. Correspondent Carrie Johnson. Okay. The firing of sessions is one of several rapid fire. Moves by the president. That's right. I e held a news conference yesterday afternoon where he expressed bitter satisfaction at the defeat of many House Republicans he said that some of them lost after failing to embrace him. He said that the lesson. He learned from the election was quote, people like me, then after that the White House revoked the credentials of a CNN reporter, and in the midst of all of this. Of course, the White House is up against a changed political landscape because Republicans lost the house and elections at many other levels on Tuesday. NPR's Scott Horsely covers the White House and is with us. Hey there Scott good morning. Steve led me, I ask about the change at the department of Justice Whittaker's attempt, these the acting attorney general how easy is it. Going to be for the president to have a replacement confirmed by the Senate, well, certainly the president's fellow Republicans had encouraged him not to make any changes at the Justice department before the midterm election, but he may feel. Freer now to make changes with that election behind him. As a result of the polling on Tuesday. The president now has a larger friendly GOP majority in the Senate, and that's the team that would be responsible for confirming any replacement Mitch McConnell. The Senate GOP leader was asked yesterday about the confirmation process. This was before we knew that sessions was on his way out, and he said that how controversial that processes would depend on who the president chooses for any for any new post. We have seen some lip service paid by Republicans. And and senators elect Republicans in the Senate and senators elect to say that the Muller probe must be protected on the house where there will be a new democratic majority. They of course, won't play any role in confirming a successor, but they will have the power to investigate the process of sessions dismissal. Okay. So there'll be a lot of news there, and that is just one cabinet depart. -ment are other changes expected in the administration after the midterm election here. It wouldn't be surprising to see more departures. The president said yesterday he is for the most part extremely happy with his cabinet. Of course, that was just hours before we learned that sessions was on his way out. The president did say he would be taking a look at some of the ethical complaints. That had been lodged against his interior secretary. Ryan Zinke, of course, ethics charges have already failed to other cabinet secretaries health secretary, Tom Price and the EPA administrator Scott Pruitt, even though in both cases, those men were very aggressive in carrying out, the president's agenda, just as

"For joining us in Clovis California town known, as the gateway. To the Sierras the haze from the Ferguson fire is fading as. Yosemite, national park reopened but the. Debate over how to stop wildfires, from raising the state again next year continues to, smolder, it's a story by? Valerie Richardson national reporter for. The Washington Times based in Denver Valerie what's going on here what. We've got going on it's obviously, in California in particular this year we have devastating wildfires, we had, devastating wildfires last year, and Ryan Zinke is is basically touring the wildfire sites you know offering comfort and support but also saying we have got to, thin are overgrown forest on the average. National forests right, now in the buyers are happening has over three hundred trees per acre and of course managers say that they should really. Have more like eighty to one hundred that area in order. To maintain optimal for health but there has been a decline And cutting in the, national forests, over the last forty, years and so, they have a lot of run areas to be beautiful areas and Ryan Zinke is trying to to basically reverse, that by by seeing more tree thinning. More projects in, the forest and he's running up against opposition from environmental groups why the decline in intrigue cutting by the way over the. Past forty years as you said Yeah it's been a number of things one was the national environmental Policy Act which was enacted about forty five years ago it basically says you have. To clear these environmental hurdles and before you can do a thinning project of the national forests. And it it adds sort of a layer of people working it also, provides a, forum for people to comment as well as challenge these projects and what you've. Seen as a result is that a lot of environmental groups have you. Used to to to challenge these projects to to stop tree thinning their concern is that most of them are are, are not real happy about the timber industry they. Don't like to see a lot of tree cutting in the forest and they? They fear that That that Ryan Zinke is basically just trying to, open a pass for the timber industry to come back it's, sort of an free fall for the last forty years so so so? You do, see a lot of challenges. There the other thing you've got, going on with the environmental movement. Is that they're they're. Saying look. The problem is not the. Overgrown. For us, the problem. Is climate change if you if the Trump. Administration, doesn't take climate change seriously been. It's it's not going to you know things with control wildfire is not gonna get. Any better so you have that narrative going back and, forth right now let's get the forest with them saying you these climate change, seriously and so it's bit of a stalemate right. Now it's kind of a stalemate for a number of years but what you've got. Right now with the Trump administration is is this push to be led by by Mr. Hanky to say enough is enough got better start cutting back these. Forests speaking with Valerie Richardson national reporter at the Washington Times she's based in Denver so Mr.. Zinke former congressman from Montana right I mean he must she must know as much, as about forests Has anybody given the For him even before. He became. Interior secretary all right so I never heard the the. Density of trees explanation so is he on? Board. With that also yeah Yeah Parts you, dance and he's not the only. One there are a number of. People you know people in, congress people who live on land who, say you, know these trees are, just you, know they're just to dance with what you get when you get that kind of force density is treated a lot of water to. Grow they, sorta you've got that many trees of an. Acre they suck up all the. Water they make things more dry in the. Atmosphere they are in the area, they, they they prevent snow from falling to the ground because their canopies are so. Sick and so there's all these sort of all these repercussions from having a dense forest stand like that big big clearly when you get trees like, that fire can jump from crown crown very. "Thing ones among the Trump cabinet, secretaries that have not resigned in disgrace, interior secretary, Ryan Zinke as perhaps the most scandal plagued member left standing, but something you may not know about him is he's a big fan of beer. Fact, Ryan Zinke has a beer green for years. Ryan. Zinke has been trying unsuccessfully to get a microbrewery built in his hometown of whitefish Montana, Sankey former navy seal. I tried way back in twenty twelve to get approval to turn a piece of residential property. He owns into a brewery. He wanted to call the double tap seal team Killa guy reference. Unfortunately, the whitefish city government turn them down. Zinke didn't give up. In fact, he joined a local committee the next year, hoping to change local zoning laws to make the more historical to business his proposed brewery. Once again, he failed for clashing with all residents about noise and traffic. Another huge letdown. What does. Guy have to do to get a brewery built in whitefish freaking Montana. Well, becoming the secretary of the interior certainly doesn't hurt how Burton made Zinke dream come true is thing to in sixty seconds. The Trump swamp interior secretary, Ryan Zinke was only overshadowed by our old friend Scott Pruitt, but think he's had plenty of scandals of his own. You may remember the nearly forty thousand dollars of wildfire preparedness funds used to pay for you to take a helicopter tour, whereas he's insistence that a special secretary flag flown at your headquarters. Whenever he's in the building, like the Queen of England, the latest candle emerge runs may be the strangest. The interior department's inspector general is investigating whether Zinke colluded to have the chairman of Alberton the giant energy company with lots.

"Of america endorsed ryan zinke and his congressional campaign in two thousand sixteen against denise yue now and that that was a big deal and thinking i saying goes all the way back to his first state senate run when montana conservation boaters also endorsed him against suits democratic rival because the logic was it would be better to have a socalled green republican in the republican caucus and yet another green democrat you know to to be agreeing democrat is almost at the fact does stance now but uh these conservation organisations think that they need people within the republican party who are willing to to push back against their agenda is with regard to conservation environment from with him so when ryan zinke was nominated to become secretary of interior a lot of these concentration organizations had helped his cause in fact don trump jr was instrumental so the story goes and getting ryan zinke is now into consideration for the post and he's a big hunter he's a life member of the missoula montana face organization called back country hundreds and anglers and definitely the folks from dha and the folks from teddy roosevelt concentration partnership another groups have been involved and helping don jr float zinc he's name for the post because some of the other options were what you might call apocalyptic i mean one of the earliest considerations with sarah palin and that you got people who were slightly better but still pretty radical kathy mcmorris rogers from washington for example is a high profile consideration so i don't think these groups thought that he was going to be the best secretary of interior in the history of the country but i think they thought that he would be a bulwark against some of be really dangerous things that would likely come out of the trump administration with guard ullah quinn and with an out of this republican controlled congress where rob bishop is the chairman of the house natural resources committee and he's an extremely aggressive anti public land's deregulation focused congressman from utah so i think they thought that he would at least be kind of bullwork and right out of the gates they saw.

"Ryan zinke hasn't done much to make environmentalists happy since he became secretary of the interior most recently he recommended that president trump shrink to national monuments in utah bears years and grand staircaseescalante trump did that last month and his decision is now being challenged in court but zinke used to be known as a maverick who occasionally broke with his party and stood up for conservation this was back when he was in the montana state senate and later in the us congress to called himself a teddy roosevelt republican outside magazines elliott woods follows zinc he's political arc in a news story and what says it starts in zinc he's hometown whitefish montana it was a working class town filled with people who worked in the rail industry and in the timber industry and so i think that really informs his identity i think he grew up around people who worked hard and didn't expect much out of life that they didn't work hard for and over the years he has has taken that identity and he's added other components to it which aren't necessarily so white fish for example he right now has a picture of himself flyfishing as the banner image on his secretary of the interior homepage he likes to be photographed riding horses and wearing cowboy hat so he has taken the montana brand and built this image out of it and i think that's really interesting so first he's in state politics in montana then he goes to congress and at the time he was thought to be a conservationist republican right i mean this is the guy who drove appreas you right how does that play in montana montana's i think are maybe more than most people in the country still looking for authenticity in their elected officials and so when ryan zinke ran as a conservationminded republican for the state senate in two thousand eight that was looked upon very favourably what was his positions on on the end.
